Nice apartment, everything available, no complaints and would definitely recommend it because the location is right in the center! The Unterlinden Museum, located in a former 13th-century Dominican convent, is a captivating blend of religious and local history alongside an impressive art collection. One of its most renowned pieces is the Isenheim Altarpiece by Matthias Grunewald, known for its powerful depiction of Jesus' story and its historical significance as a source of solace for medieval hospital patients.
It was very positive... I was more keen this time on contemporary art works which are breathtaking and it invited me to humility... Yes, they speak much beyond what I understand now..
Arun S — Google review
Try to came by here if you happen go to Colmar or the area around. The museum with remarkable architectuur and art collections. Is not as big as Louvre but it is worth a visit. Price ticket for adults €13 per person.
SISU T — Google review
Mid-sized museum with local artefacts, a famous painting (the Isenheim Altarpiece), and some modern art.
Sarah M — Google review
A stunning mix of medieval depth and modern elegance. The Isenheim Altarpiece alone is worth the visit – intense, haunting, unforgettable. The museum’s layout blends old and new beautifully, and the collection ranges from ancient artifacts to Picasso. Informative displays in multiple languages and a calm atmosphere make it ideal for a 2–3 hour visit. Highly recommended for anyone interested in art, architecture, or history.
Martin S — Google review
Great museum lots to see and so many different floors and rooms...we spent 2hrs 40 minutes ...viewing the many historic artifacts...
Margaret H — Google review
I don’t often rate museums but this one deserves it. The Isenheim Altarpiece is the star of the show, and they do it perfectly. Plenty of space is given to each set of panels. Plenty of educational materials are readily available. And bless them for this-benches so one can sit and contemplate. Generous space is also allowed sit the masterpiece can be thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated. The rest of the museum is a delight. A wide range of art and artifacts from the history of Colmar and Alsace is presented. Again-with thought and thoroughness.
Rob R — Google review
Very interesting building and museum of art. A must to visit if only to see the Isenheim Altarpiece. The comprehensive display the former chapel is excellent Plenty of other exhibits in the museum.

Spectacular museum with lots of impressive paintings on display. The Isenheim Altarpiece is spectacular and worth looking at. The building is lovely to walk around. Reasonable entry fee at €14 for an adult. Would definitely recommend a visit.

The Musée du Jouet in Colmar is a captivating attraction showcasing over a thousand toys dating from the 19th century to the present day. Housed in a former cinema, this museum offers an extensive collection of dolls, teddy bears, miniature trains and cars, rocking horses, tricycles, as well as modern toys like robots and LEGO creations. Visitors can immerse themselves in nostalgia while discovering how children used to play before the digital era.
Very nice toy museum. Three floors of exhibits. Play space in the middle for kids.
Angela Z — Google review
Nice little toy museum in the center of Colmar with several nice exhibits, including model trains and an impressive Playmobil display. You can also play several games, including boardgames and classic arcade games. Not the biggest museum, but nice to spend an hour or so, especially if you have young children. Highly recommended!
Roel F — Google review
Nice museum with lots for kids to do. The puppet show was unfortunately not working
Olga K — Google review
Its a small, very cute museum. At each floor, you will find board games or other activities to play with your kids, along with an exhibition of tous from different times. Last floor is dedicated to trains and several of them run!
Marjorie Z — Google review
I went with my son with low expectations having not read any reviews and literally making a spontaneous choice to go. My son and I engaged in everything that was on offer. It was funny for him to see toys his dad had once played with. We built stuff we pressed buttons and loved the time we had there. Only complaint is that some of the buttons didn't work and we could only get one train to work. But all in all friendly staff nice well laid out Museum.
Scott R — Google review
Nice little museum full of old-school toys including puppets, model trains and cars, Barbies.
Kristjan V — Google review
Small museum with nice exhibition. Wish the play area had more toys available to play with. Worth a visit.

It's such a great place! This museum is located in a beautiful, colourful little city. We did not have any kids with us, but this toy museum has sparked some nostalgia for some of us as some used to have the displayed items. It's really interesting to see what some kids in some parts of the world played with at different moments in history. We went there on a rainy day, but i recommended this place if you are around.

La Petite Venise in Colmar, France is a charming area known for its canals and historic buildings. The fisherman's section features half-timbered 16th- and 17th-century buildings along the Quai de la Poisonnerie, with the River Lauch flowing through. Swans gracefully float on the water while weeping willows line the banks, creating a picturesque scene reminiscent of a fairy tale illustration.
Colmar is a truly beautiful town — I absolutely loved it. It’s a perfect place for walking, relaxing, and simply soaking in the atmosphere. You can enjoy some great local cafes and restaurants, or just sit by the canal and take in the refreshing vibe of the town. Between the charming old buildings and peaceful natural surroundings, it offers a lovely and balanced experience. I think 3 days is enough to explore Colmar, but honestly, I wouldn’t mind staying for 7–10 days — especially if you plan to visit nearby villages or cities in France or even Germany, since it’s so close to the border. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful and picturesque getaway.
Hassan H — Google review
Colmar is a magical fairy-tale town that you will be thrilled by. Parking is well organized, there are several marked parking lots and you can drive very close to the canal and park in the square, it was very busy, but we found a place. About 100 meters away is the canal restaurant, where you board the boat, tickets are sold in the restaurant. We waited about 20 minutes for our boat and so we had prosecco. I definitely recommend the cruise, it is a beautiful experience. You sail past historic houses lined with restaurants to the old market, which is definitely worth a visit, you can taste local specialties there. Behind the market, the boat turns and you sail back and further towards the historic bridge to the beautiful romantic corners of Colmar, like in Monet's paintings.

Colmar is an absolutely beautiful city — like something out of a storybook. The colourful half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets, and peaceful canals make it one of the most charming towns in France. The architecture is stunning, showing a perfect blend of French and German influences. Don’t miss La Petite Venise, the Old Town, the Unterlinden Museum, and Saint-Martin Church. Try the local food, especially Flammkuchen (a delicious thin-crust pizza-style dish), and enjoy some great ice cream while walking along the canals. There is sufficient parking available in two underground parking garages, and the parking fees are fair. A perfect place for photos, relaxing walks, and soaking up Alsace’s unique atmosphere!
Niroshan — Google review
La Petite Venise in Colmar is an absolute gem! I have been often in the region passing through and never really stopped by until recently. I didn’t regretted it. Strolling through this charming area feels like stepping into a fairytale with its picturesque canals and colorful half-timbered houses. The atmosphere is both peaceful and vibrant, making it the perfect spot to unwind. I was especially captivated by the delightful reflections in the water and the quaint bridges that connect the area. There are plenty of cozy cafes and restaurants where you can savor local Alsatian cuisine. Whether you're exploring during the day or enjoying the illuminated scenery at night, La Petite Venise is a must-visit destination that offers a magical experience.

Magical & Landmark Village in France This village deserves its reputation as one of the most beautiful in France. Wandering around Colmar is a fantastic & delightful experience. We enjoyed it and can only recommend it to all. We also eat in the village and it was fine.
Paul V — Google review
La Petite Venise is the heart and soul of Colmar. It brings life and charm to this poetic little town. The water is clear and calm, reflecting the colorful houses along the river. From time to time, small boats glide by, adding to the peaceful rhythm of the place. On both sides of the river, cozy restaurants and little boutiques line the streets, full of character and local charm. The riverbank is always lively—couples enjoying a quiet drink together, solo travelers taking in the views, and local families strolling with their children and dogs. It’s a scene full of life and stories. The only drawback is that this picturesque river stretch is actually quite short, so the area is smaller than one might expect. Still, it remains a must-see in Colmar—a lovely place to walk, relax, and feel the spirit of the town.
Sweet K — Google review
Colorful and very old buildings in Colmar. Restaurants are great -- not very touristy. I wish there were more shops for crafts and other local products. The market is small. Someone told me that this place can get very crowded in the summer, so avoid that time.

Colmar – a fairytale town full of magic! Visiting Colmar feels like stepping into a storybook. Often called “Little Venice”, the canals, colorful half-timbered houses, and cobblestone streets create an unforgettable atmosphere. The town is full of charm at every corner – from small shops and cozy cafés to stunning views along the water. The atmosphere is simply wonderful, both lively and peaceful at the same time. Walking through Colmar feels special and magical, and it’s definitely one of the most beautiful places to experience in France. A must-visit!

The Musée Bartholdi, located in the heart of Colmar, celebrates the life and works of Auguste Bartholdi, the renowned sculptor behind the Statue of Liberty. This house-museum displays a variety of his works and features preparatory models for some of his most famous pieces. Visitors can explore three levels showcasing exhibits such as preparatory models for Bartholdi's creations, including an ear model for the Statue of Liberty.
Great little museum giving a fascinating insight into the famous son of Colmar - "Auguste Bartholdi". Naturally there's a big focus on his most famous work "The Statue of Liberty" and there are many exciting details and photos of it's design, construction and transport to America. The house itself is the birthplace of Bartholdi and is very well kept in the original period style. It has a great collection of pieces and samples and is not too big or overwhelming for children. We had a great time and the whole family learned alot.
T F — Google review
Was treated poorly by the receptionist. Sad, ruined the experience. She thought she was being clever but was rather demeaning. Worst thing is she represents Colmar to the world. Museum was interesting but very simple. A few models of the artist work and some photographs that are available online. The most interesting areas were his studios and recreated rooms.
Matt F — Google review
So much wonderful information about the oeuvre of this sculptor, who was a local boy made good and much more than the creator of the Statue of Liberty. But isn't that enough? A scale model of Lady Liberty graces a traffic circle outside of town, too.
Judy S — Google review
Cute little museum about the person behind the statue of liberty. Worth a visit. Museum not that big. Beautiful museum with so much to see regarding Bartholdi's work. It is definitely worth a visit to see the work of this diverse artist
ILONKA H — Google review
Nice museum if you're interested in Bartholdi and his life. I wish they would translate more descriptions in English. It's disappointing to pay for a ticket and have most descriptions in french only!
Thanasis M — Google review
For students, they let you tour the place for free. And it has such value and so much to see. It is infact the creator of the Statue of Liberty's house. Bartholdi, a great sculptur and great artist. Made my visit in colmar worth it.
Thomas C — Google review
The 5 euro entry fee is definitely worth it, as the museum provides enlightening insights into Bartholdi, Colmar, and the region. Located in the birthplace of Auguste Bartholdi, which was bequeathed to the town in 1907, the museum spans three levels dedicated to this iconic 19th-century artist, known for creating the Statue of Liberty and the Lion of Belfort. Inaugurated on November 18, 1922, it houses an impressive collection of sculptures, paintings, drawings, photographs, sketches, and models. Recognized as a Museum of France, the building was awarded the "Maisons des Illustres" label by the Ministry of Culture and Communication in 2011.

I loved it. I wish I had more time to spend in. We went right before lunch and we didn't have lots of time since they were closing for lunch. But it was great! The only that I noticed that it's there's no access for strollers or wheelchairs that was so sad that some people with disability can't have access to all the 3 floors. Otherwise highly recommend.

Colmar Christmas Market is a must-visit destination in the Alsace region, offering a picturesque setting with its medieval village charm and colorful half-timbered houses. Situated near the border of France and Germany, it embodies the best of both countries. Accessible by train or car, it's also convenient to fly into Paris CDG if you're planning a visit specifically for the Christmas markets.
Truly beautiful and enchanting Christmas market. Its great to take pictures but also for gourmet people. It is also very big and you might get easily lost. I loved the crazy amount of local food and drink specialities you could buy. The little museums are also worth a visit. The only negative aspects are the crowds. The market is very popular and there are way too many people cramped in those small alleyways. Also I had to park 2km away from the market in a residential area, since every car park was full.
M H — Google review
The most beautiful and fairytale style city at Christmas. If I could I would give 10 stars. The vibe, the look of the city is out of this world. It should be on the bucket list of every person.
M F — Google review
We made a day trip to Colmar during our recent stay in Strasbourg and enjoyed the charming Christmas Market scene held around the city centre. The annual Christmas Market is held during Advent (late November until 29 December each year. There are signs from Colmar Central Station clearly pointing the way to the city centre and main market squares, the walk is around 12-15 minutes. The market is up and running from around 10am each morning. The Christmas Market in Colmar is spread out over a handful of public squares where you find traditional Christmas market stalls selling hot wine, seasonal food, holiday ornamentations, gifts and related items. Everything blends in nicely with the medieval appearance of the city centre, creating great atmosphere to enjoy the holiday season. It was also nice seeing the larger scale Christmas trees and tall Noel Pyramid and other Christmas themed entertainment for families at Place Rapp. All in all, we spent around 5 hours enjoying the market and sightseeing before catching train back to Strasbourg in the mid afternoon.
Brad — Google review
Colmar Christmas Market is very beautiful and very crowded during this season. If you are around it’s a must to do in your last. Colmar is a very nice place to visit!
Antonis L — Google review
Located almost on the border between France and Germany, Colmar is one of those dream cities, a medieval village with narrow streets and colorful half-timbered houses that could illustrate a fairytale book. A legitimate representative of the Alsace region, Colmar brings together the best of both neighboring countries and has so many attractions that deserve to be included in a French itinerary whatever the time of your trip. During the months of November and December Colmar transforms into an even more fascinating destination due to the magic of Christmas. It is at this time that the Colmar Christmas Markets take over the city and the festive atmosphere of Christmas lights, colors, flavors and aromas make the entire experience even more unforgettable.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Schwendi Fountain, located at the center of Place de l'Ancienne Douane, is a historic monument that was reconstructed after World War II. Designed by the renowned sculptor Auguste Bartholdi in 1898, it features a bronze statue of General Lazare Schwendi, a nobleman from the 1500s known for his victory over the Turks in Hungary and for introducing a popular grape variety to Colmar.
Nice and historical plaza in the heart of Colmar with a beautiful fountain at its center This historic fountain, originally designed by Auguste Bartholdi in 1898, features a striking bronze statue of Lazare de Schwendi (1522-1583). Although it was demolished in 1940, the fountain was lovingly rebuilt after the war with a slightly smaller basin and a new orientation. Today, the statue stands proudly once again at the former customs location. Lazare de Schwendi served as a war chief from 1564 to 1568 under Emperor Maximilian II, where he fought against the Turks in Hungary. It is believed that he brought back a grape variety from Tokay. Inspired by this legend, Auguste Bartholdi depicted Lazare de Schwendi holding a vine stock in his hand.
Guillaume B — Google review
This is a nice fountain monument dedicated to Lazare de Schwendi (1522-83) that is the work of Auguste Bartholdi and was erected in 1898. I enjoyed viewing the bronze statue of Schwendi in armour, raising his his right hand while holding the vines of Tokay, a variety of grape from the region. The statue stands upon an ornamental pedestal with extended spouts which spill water into a ground level basin below. The fountain was not in operation during our recent December visit, instead filled with Christmas wreath, garlands and other holiday decorations.
Brad — Google review
Many have said it’s small and easy to miss but I would disagree. Beautiful even without water when when visited. Installed in 1898, this fountain is surmounted by a bronze statue of Auguste Bartholdi representing Lazarus of Schwendi (1522-1583). Demolished in 1940, the fountain was rebuilt after the war with a smaller basin and oriented differently, to accommodate the statue again on the Place de l'Ancienne Douane. Warlord in the service of Emperor Maximilian II between 1564 and 1568, Lazarus of Schwendi left to fight the Turks in Hungary from where he allegedly brought back the Tokay grape variety. Auguste Bartholdi was inspired by this legend to brandish a vine cep to his statue of Schwendi.

The Schwendi Fountain in Colmar was enchanting during Easter, with stalls, live bunnies, and festive decorations everywhere. Surrounded by the river and colorful decorates houses, it felt truly magical , such an unforgettable and storybook-like experience even at night!

Lovely square especially if the weather is sunny. Unfortunately the water was missing from the fountain which was a bit of disappointment for us. It is very crowded area during the weekends. The channel next to the fountain was also almost empty.
Max D — Google review
Historic fountain rebuilt after World War II. This is in the centre near the Old Custom House. It is decorated with the statue of Lord Schwendi
* B — Google review
Nice fountain in a great location. However as many others have stated, it is rather small and very easy to miss. I, myself had walked right by it and turned back around to see it.
Priscilla Y — Google review
This fountain was not as big as many of the other representations of Bartholdi's in the area, and is easy to overlook with so many interesting buildings surrounding it. Also, while we were there, their were Easter decorations that were hung around it, so that probably also detracted a bit from it's overall impact. It is certainly worth your time to stop and take a look, but no need to linger.

Parc du Champ de Mars is a spacious and green park located in the heart of Colmar, offering a peaceful retreat with its tree-filled surroundings, fountain, and statues of notable French figures. Throughout the year, visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls, picnics, and even ice skating during winter. The park also hosts a charming Christmas market and festive activities during the holiday season.
My favorite little park so far. It is truly a friendly park for everyone. You can find people dancing, children playing with fountains, small dogs running happily and live blues if you’re lucky! It makes you feel it’s such a peaceful and beautiful world to live in!

Park in the middle of Colmar with a couple of well known statues, the big red Colmar lyeers in front of a beautiful fountain and an antiques marry go round. Underneath is the modern parking garage Rapp which is very convenient to start off a walk in the city. The playground is currently built and will feature cute wooden animals.

Beautiful and huge park in the Center of the city near to the main train station. They do have a small playing place for the kids and a place for the coffee. It is good to have a short walk in the park. Well maintained and clean place. Green and peaceful to have a wonderful walk.

Without a doubt one of the cleanest, most well-maintained and supervised (during the day) parks ever. A great place to get some relief on the hottest days. There is a long walking path. There is Colmar written in capital letters, it is a great place to capture the moment with a photo.

Nice park with lots of open space (and areas with tree shades to walk). I like that they merged traditional and modern vibe here. Great for kids and families.

A nice place to take a picture with the Colmar city sign. Next door there are water fountains that children can go in and get wet. Opposite there is a large beautiful carousel and a cafe, further along is a grassy area for a picnic and another large fountain.

Maison Pfister is a stunning Renaissance town mansion located in Colmar, originally built in 1537 for Ludwig Scherer. The house is now named after Francois-Xavier Pfister, who acquired it in 1841. Colmar serves as an ideal base for exploring the medieval wine villages and towns nestled among the picturesque vineyards of the Vosges mountains.
I came here on a recommendation I received in Strasbourg! A lovely lady spotted my Studio Ghibli tattoos and informed me that the inspiration for the initial town came from Colmar, so I just had to detour on my road trip to see for myself. It’s SO BEAUTIFUL, and the inspiration is very evident. The area itself had lovely street music going on and since I visited a week and a half before Easter it was beautifully decorated. Tons of markets in the area to explore.

追尋《霍爾移動城堡》裡的魔法足跡 🔮 Stepping into a fairytale! Built in the 1500s, this medieval-looking Alsatian house was commissioned by a wealthy hatter—just like Sophie, a hatter herself—though much poorer, of course... With its whimsical turrets, wooden balconies, and storybook charm, this place looks straight out of a magical adventure. Choco Story Colmar is an interactive chocolate museum in Colmar, offering several tastings during the visit. It's a fun activity for both kids and adults. In the Little Venice area, visitors can take a boat or gondola ride to float past fairytale houses and enjoy the blooming flowers. The museum provides a useful audio guide to explore the history of chocolate, from its origins as a spicy beverage to various candies and bars.
This museum is a must see when in Colmar! I highly recommend visiting here and you will learn a lot about the chocolate making process.

Fantastic, loved every part, my husband wanted to go round twice!! Very engaging, this is how a museum should be. Considering how much chocolate I eat it is amazing how little knowledge I had of where it comes from. We were 2 adults, but I can imagine children enjoying the interactivity and the games. And as an added bonus it was air conditioned, so we could escape the heat.
Sarah C — Google review
My son and I went here and were instantly made to feel welcomed by the staff. We were given a device that allowed us to listen to the story of Chocolate. My son is 7 and was basically enticed into this museum on the promise of free Chocolate and as a dad I was more than happy to tag along. I couldn't believe how he tried every single story, game and film that was on offer. He totally loved it and so did I. Would absolutely recommend this place for a visit. We loved it.

A must visit attraction in Colmar. A really nice, unique and informative chocolate origins story tour. The tour itself is self guided with 3 language options - French, English and German. Every step of chocolate manufacturing is explained in detail with historical paraphernalia associated with it. There are many interactive games to keep us sharp and active. There are also chocolate samples that you can try out during the tour. This chocolate manufacturing tour is really worth its price. There is also a gift shop present here where you can also buy chocolates. The staff at the entrance are also friendly and helpful.
Reynold K — Google review
The chocolate museum tour that I experienced with my daughters was truly fantastic! It was not only entertaining but also educational. The museum provided an English audio tour throughout the entire facility, which made the experience more enjoyable and informative. The 90-minute tour was filled with unlimited chocolate samples, satisfying our sweet cravings while exploring the world of chocolate. The end of the tour offered a delightful selection of hot chocolate options, and I opted for the Spanish hot chocolate, which was rich. The museum itself was structured on two levels, allowing us to immerse ourselves fully in the history and process of chocolate production. After the tour, we decided to participate in the chocolate making class. It was incredibly fun to create our own chocolate treats with experts, and the best part was indulging in our delicious creations in the following days. For families with children, like my 14 and 16-year-old daughters, this tour is a great way to keep them engaged and entertained. Even those who tend to get bored easily will find this experience captivating and enjoyable. I highly recommend allowing yourself 60-90 minutes for the tour, and if time permits, do not miss the opportunity to join the chocolate making class. It adds an extra layer of fun to the entire experience.

AWESOME MUST VISIT. Both wine and chocolate tours were nice. The chocolate one especially since at the end you can opt for a workshop where you can make your own chocolate! That was a unique experience and it worked pretty well, better than I expected! I am not one to look at pictures on the walls for hours on end - I need something interactive - and this museum offered me exactly that.
Andrei S — Google review
Fantastic! Audio tour was very handy and you can go at your own pace, plenty of chocolate to try and family freindly! Reccommend buying the combined ticket online with the wine museum, saves 20% or so . Wine museum was also fun and grape juice is provided as an alternative to wine for tasting at the end. Also next to a beautifull old church ypu can visit.

It feels safe to swim as there is always a lifeguard on duty to ensure safety. The sandy beach is well-maintained and the water is clean making it an enjoyable destination to visit while in Colmar.
Beautiful lake with sandy beach and lifeguarded swimming area. Lots of parking and good clean facilities. Also plenty of shade under the trees. Clean water! Would definitely recommend coming here on a hot day to cool down. Much nicer than a swimming pool. Lots of great play areas for the kids too.

We read some good reviews on google and decided to go. Unfortunately as we are on vacation and have a roofbox on the car and the parking did not allow more than 2m height. I understand that they don’t want campers here but this was very disappointing for us and the children.

At the entrance, there is a checkpoint where all items brought inside are inspected. Bringing alcoholic beverages is prohibited. The entrance fee is 4 Euro for both children and adults. The designated swimming area is limited and supervised. There is a small grassy area with some trees where visitors can relax in the shade. A large parking lot is available free of charge. Restrooms are also provided inside the facility.

We came here after a day in Colmar in summer as the heat was too much to bear in the city. The water is cold (this is a feature during a heat wave) and it's a nice beach with a snack/Burger stand, showers, and changing rooms. There aren't any lockers once you enter and reentry isn't permitted so I recommend leaving valuables in the car. Parking is free (but has a 2m height limit), but not much availability to reach here by public transit.

When visiting Colmar, make sure to include The House of the St. John's Knights in your itinerary. This historic building, constructed in 1609, is known for its ornate facade adorned with 106 heads and masks. Designed by architect Albert Schmidt, it stands out with a beautiful bay window and a Bartholdi sculpted statue of a cooper on top of the gable.
The rigorous symmetry, adorned with three galleries, two of which are arcaded dating from 1608, of the façade of the House of the Knights of Saint John, is reminiscent of a Venetian palazzo. Saint John Knights had their houses in the Netherlands, Malta Jerusalem and Sweden. At one point they colonised some Caribbean Islands that they later handed over to France. Their history is spreads several history and several disputed historic claims are made from current Orders of Saint John over the world.

This is one of those buildings that just sticks out, and as it was from the architect Albert Schmidt, who is also known for the House of Heads and the House of Arcade, it is not hard to see why. The architecture of The House of the St. John's Knights, is reminiscent of Venetian palaces and not of local French dwellings. The original house was built in 1608, and this is a reconstruction from the 19th century, however it is still very impressive.

(Translated by Google) It’s unexpected to see a Venetian palace in French-German Colmar. It clearly stands out among neighboring buildings. The house has a two-story arched gallery with a stone balustrade that connects the two buildings. One side of the house faces the road, the other faces the courtyard. The building was built in 1608 by the architect Albert Schmidt, who is also known as the author of the “house of heads” and “house of arcades”. In the 19th century the house was reconstructed. The building is known as the House of the Knights of St. John, although in fact it never belonged to the Johannites, so the name does not correspond to reality. May 2022.

(Translated by Google) The house "of the knights of San Juan" never really belonged to them. It is said to have been built in 1608 following Italian models and that it was dismantled at the beginning of the 19th century to be later rebuilt at the end of that same century. It is, therefore, in reality, a nineteenth-century reconstruction of a private house that, with its two "loggias" superimposed on the entrance and structured around a patio, is an exotic example of a private home in both Colmar and Alsace.

Like most of those who went there, we went there because of the queue outside. And the ‘petit futé’ award shown on the front door. So after 20min waiting outside (inside no space to wait ) we got our table. Yes the staff is kind. But don’t expect an amazing food experience. I am French and had better Choucroute even in the middle of France away from Alsace. The food was good but honestly for the price I would expect something else. For tourists with first time in the region or in France, this will be seen as great. That makes it more a tourist attraction than food experience. We appreciated the atmosphere, the kindness of the staff. They have a nice choice of wines. Riesling we chose was very good for 27€.

Marché Couvert Colmar is a historic covered market dating back to the mid-1800s, located in the Petite Venice area. The building features a charming mix of brick and metalwork, preserving its original purpose as a marketplace for fresh produce like fruits, vegetables, meat, and fish. Visitors can also find local specialties and dairy products here. The market is an ideal spot to grab ingredients for cooking or pick up ready-made items for a quick meal.
Although I only stayed here for three short days, I developed a strong interest in this market. Even though it’s not very big, the overall shopping atmosphere inside is really pleasant—clean and hygienic. There’s also a stall that sells bread and desserts, and the quality is quite high. I truly enjoyed this place. Now that the trip is over, whenever I think of the taste of the food here, the warmth and friendliness of the people, and the gentle smiles always on their faces, I feel deeply moved.

Is a charming indoor market housed in a historic 1865 building. Features around 20 vendors selling local products like cheese, wine, pastries, and Alsatian specialties, as well as some international food. Cozy, with spots to eat on-site or take away.😋 Some visitors find it slightly pricey, but it's praised for its quality and authentic experience 😆

The historic market is worth a visit, it is an explosion of flavors, colors and aromas. You can taste local products here, the cheeses, butter, salamis are great, as well as honey, various pastries and bread and baked sweets. We tasted fresh oysters and shrimps, and finally baked crab. This area is also known for its excellent white wine, there are wine-growing villages nearby and we visited the most beautiful one, I will write about that in another post.

This market is a vibrant spot in the heart of Colmar’s old town, perfect for relaxing with a drink at the bar, enjoying a meal at one of the restaurants, or simply wandering through the colorful stalls. The Colmar Covered Market, constructed in 1865 by architect Louis Michel Boltz, showcases a remarkable example of 19th-century industrial architecture. The use of materials like brick, iron, and cast iron marks Colmar's shift into the industrial era. Located along the Lauch River, this market was once a bustling hub for market gardeners transporting their produce in flat-bottomed boats. After its restoration in 2010, it reopened as a permanent market, inviting visitors to experience its charm. The market's iconic fountain is adorned with a bronze statue of a winegrower. This sculpture, installed in 1986, replaces the original statue crafted by Auguste Bartholdi in 1869. Be sure to check the schedule, as opening hours may vary, but you can always count on authenticity and friendliness when visiting this lively place.
Guillaume B — Google review
It was a nice experience seeing the traditional market from Colmar. The building itself, along with the market inside were really nice and clean and I was glaf that it had the option to pay using the credit card too. And it was also the first time for me seeing natural figs, since I have only seen figs from Turkey, until I reached this square. It is deffinetly worth checking out this place, if you visit the beautiful city of Colmar!

Bartholdi is a museum in Colmar, paying homage to French sculptor Frederic Bartholdi, who designed the Statue of Liberty. The city is also the birthplace of Bartholdi and Hansi, a well-known illustrator. Visitors can explore various museums and historic buildings within walking distance from the hotel. The presence of golden triangles with Lady Liberty's head leads to monuments completed by Bartholdi in and around Colmar.
Had dinner here during our stay in Colmar. Made a reservation (even though it was a weekday) a couple of weeks before. Which turned out to be the smart thing...the place was almost fully booked. After entering we were accompanied to our table by our waiter. Our English Bulldog was welcome as well. Ordered a bottle of Crèmant d'Alsace (pink), Foie Gras (mi-cuit) and Oysters for starters. Both excellent choices. The foie gras was nice sized (two pieces), very smooth and tender. The oysters were soft and creamy, tasted very fresh. For the mains we ordered the beef steak with morels and sides and the Steak Tartare. The beef was pretty good, nice meat. But the highlight was of course the morel sauce. Plenty of wonderful tasting morels. The steak Tartare is pretty famous here and is prepared right at the table. A huge amount of the best and freshest raw beef. Never had such a big sized steak tartare before...and I've had many. And it wasn't just the biggest, no. It was also the very best Steak Tartare I've had so far. The Crèmant went very well with both the starters and the mains. It came together at around 150 Euros. Which is well priced for this kind of dinner. Classic french cuisine in a classic setting. Very cosy, very stylish. Friendly and attentive staff, great quality food. Really enjoyed our dinner here.

What a pleasant surprise! We have just left this cozy restaurant in Colmar, near the Bartholdi Museum. Great food, great espace and great service - my partner had a little bit of trouble with the language and asked for a salad with bacon (and he’s allergic to anything pork related). The Dominican Church in Colmar is a restored 14th-century Gothic church that houses remarkable Alsatian artworks. The stained-glass windows are a must-see for art enthusiasts, depicting religious scenes.
Too crowded in high season. But for a good reason. Annecy could compete with the best of France's flowering villages, which is remarkable given that it is a sizable city. Driving into and out of town in summer might cost you an hour each.

We were there in December, so the Christmas Village crowds were at a high. The church was such a beautiful structure, but too crowded to get inside. This village redeemed my feelings about France (not a fan of Paris) with only one rude restaurant owner who clearly did not like Americans. The rest of the folks were so sweet and cheery.

The Church of the Dominicans (Église des Dominicains), is a major work of the architecture of the mendicant orders, that began construction in 1283. The Dominicans who arrived in 1278, were driven out of the city temporarily in 1330. Since 1973, it houses "The Virgin at the Buisson de Roses" (La Vierge au buisson de roses), the masterpiece of Martin Schongauer.

The Hansi Village and Museum is a lovely place to visit that is dedicated to the renowned artist Jean-Jacques Waltz, also known as Hansi. Hansi was a pro-French activist during the German annexation of Alsace and a prominent painter and drawer. His art has a very interesting style, with paintings of landscapes and propaganda pieces during World War II.
Nice and "cute" museum. I liked it so much. I believe it is very underrated. You may enjoy this museum if you are interested in painting, history of the area (European history generally), personal experience of people, or old stuff. It is a small museum so it would not take more than 30 minutes
Ragui F — Google review
The staff did a terrible job packaging fragile items. When I asked for more packaging and explained I was taking items on an airplane the employee refused to be helpful. The picture shows how my ceramic bowl was package. Not enough bubble wrap and no tape.

A small but interesting place to go. It was worth paying €5 to go to see his paintings upstairs as they were very pretty. The shop downstairs has lots of things to see and buy as well.

Love this little museum of Hansi’s works! His works mainly based in the local area (Colmar). You can see how his illustrations becoming more political during WWII. Must visit in my opinion!
Haynes C — Google review
A good museum to visit to learn more Hansi and view his art and influence throughout Colmar and France. He has a very interesting style, having painted landscapes and created "propaganda", in a sense, during the war. It costs 5€ to enter, which I believe the museum does not reflect this price

Le Petit Tanneur is a charming family-friendly restaurant known for its delightful Alsatian cuisine. The cozy ambiance and a menu tailored for kids make it the perfect spot for a laid-back family dining experience. While parents savor regional delicacies, children can indulge in their favorite dishes, creating an enjoyable meal for everyone.
We all know lava cake…molten chocolate, a delightful experience. But have you heard of a salted caramel lava cake? Well, me neither! LE MEILLEUR DESSERT AU MONDE 💫 I had it on my first day in Colmar and simply had to come back for it. I’ve never eaten something as delicious. Their flambé tartes are also yummy (especially “La forestiere” and “Gout de Chevre”) and if you come here in the summer time, the tables near the canals of “Petite Venise” offer a lovely atmosphere. But seriously, whatever you do, don’t skip dessert!!!💗
Irina ʕ — Google review
We stopped by here based on the recommendation we received from the must-eat list. The atmosphere of the place, the warm and friendly atmosphere inside enchanted us when we came from the cold. The menus we ate were delicious, and we also liked the drinks. After waiting about 15 minutes to order, when I went to the waiter, he sternly said, "You should wait a little longer." That's the only reason I'm deducting points. Other than that, it's a must come and see
Hüner G — Google review
As a group of four, we dined at this restaurant twice for lunch. The outside seating was lovely with a nice outlook although a little cramped. The restaurant is very large and there is a second outdoor seating section, but mostly in the sun. The food was delicious and the service good. A little annoying, we came back for drinks in the late afternoon and were told there was a 5 euro cover charge per person just to have a drink, even when we proved we had just ate there. We left not ordering drinks.
Matthew D — Google review
The staffs are super friendly and can speak English. The food and the atmosphere is very nice. 추천해요!
Sophie C — Google review
We ordered two steaks, but the drinks arrived halfway through the meal and were served wrong twice. The waiters were friendly, but clearly disorganized and confused, often gathered together and mixing up orders. The food was average at best, and my “medium” steak was served well done.
S A — Google review
Went for lunch and the service was terrible. They brought us inside randomly from the outdoor seating which they had originally sat us at and then did not serve us for a long time. We finally received our drinks at the end of the meal asking 2 different servers. The food was very mediocre.
Kira — Google review
This restaurant is disappointing : this is more a food factory, focusing on volume. Beer was served warm, food is average and service is disapointing . Always looking for waiters who gave too much tables under their responsibility….

The Statue du Général Rapp, created in 1854 by Bartholdi, pays tribute to General Jean Rapp. Originally showcased at the Champs Elysees in Paris, it was later relocated to Colmar. The statue has a rich history, having been unveiled when Bartholdi was just twenty years old and surviving destruction during World War II. Today, the plaza where it stands, Place Rapp, is a pedestrian-only area with fountains and a carousel nearby.

This is a monument of city native and Military General Jean Rapp (1773-1821) who famously fought in conflicts including the French Revolution and Battle of Austerlitz located at the public square by the same name. Interestingly, it is the work of legendary local sculptor Auguste Bartholdi (1854) and depicts Rapp in military officer attire with his right hand crossing his chest while he stares forward. It is a nice monument worth a moment or two to view when passing through the square.
Brad — Google review
Dating back to 1854, the statue has quite a history! Dedicated to General Jean Rapp (1771-1821), this statue was Bartholdi's first public work of art, unveiled he was only twenty years old. It was was first displayed during the Universal Exhibition of 1855 and on the Champs Elysées in Paris, it was moved to Colmar in 1856. The Nazis demolished it in 1940 and then it was restored in 1948 after the war. The plaza, Place Rapp, is pedestrian only. And today, it was set up as part of the Christmas markets with a fence on all sides to keep the kids from wandering off.
Bruce K — Google review
It’s worth passing by if you’re interested in Bartholdi’s work. It’s the work that made him get noticed :)

Beautiful monument of General Jean Rapp (who fought in the Napoleonic wars) by Bartholdi. It's a pretty popular place, with lovely fountains, a carousel and a café. The location is excellent, you can reach the Centre-Ville on one side, and the Fontaine Bruat and the Prefecture on the other.

We really enjoyed our experience. Takes about an hour to see all the animals, mummies and fossils. Why are all the stuffed and mounted animals made to look fierce?

I enjoyed my visit here! Kind staff, small and interesting and I thought it was perfect for 6€. The taxidermy collection was very old and really interesting to see the differences in how they turned out back then compared to now. We also really enjoyed the Egyptology exhibit and Ethiopian artifacts.

I was really suprised with this museum. The entrance fee is low so wasn't suspecting much. But to my suprise it tickled me in very specific spots: dinosaurs, mummies and stuffed animals. The range of stuffed animals is incredible, from sea animals to big bugs and even a dolphin. With just the right amount of goofy animal faces. The dino skeletons are also incredible. T-Rex, ok. And also the museum has some suprise mummies. If you're in Colmar and seen the inner city for the fifth time, visit this museum.
Maarten C — Google review
Simple but rich history in small place in the centre of oldtown. Good for kids - young ones, since the main attraction is Dinosaur exterior area with paleontologist activities
Diego B — Google review
The museum features an exhibition that includes both local and exotic animals, spread across two floors. During my visit, there was also a special exhibit on dinosaurs. However, the museum’s compact size and the admission fee contributed to my overall rating of three stars.

The Alsatian Wines Museum is an engaging and interactive attraction located in the same building as the chocolate museum. Visitors can explore various winemaking stations with a clear structure, accompanied by a free audio guide that provides comprehensive information. The museum offers interactive activities and performances, making it an enjoyable experience for both adults and children. At the end of the tour, guests have the opportunity to taste three types of grapes or grape juice and even create their own wine label.
A great interactive experience. It was fun and learnt a lot. Wish the wine tasting was a bit more, it was a few sips only. Loved looking at the historical wine labels and learning about the different grape varieties of the region and France. Definitely recommend a visit and also do the chocolate tour.
Hannah M — Google review
One of my favorite experiences in Alsace. It is a great museum for everyone, who wants to learn a bit more about the local wine. The best part is, that it combines learning with playing, with fun mini games along the route through the museum. The audioguides are simple to use, and we got to taste three different wines at the end of the tour. Higly recommended for spending an afternoon in Colmar!

600K Turks live in France. Many tourists come from Turkey. However, there is no Turkish audio guide in wine museum. 👎 The wine museum is an interactive museum with some games. It tells the story of growing grapes and turning them into wine. It was a nice experience. At the end of the museum, you can taste 3 different wines from the Alsace region.

(Translated by Google) It is said that in 491 AD, a Taoist priest named Ursus de Cahors built a monastery on a rocky plateau on the left bank of the Indre River. A settlement gradually formed around the monastery. It is still a small town now, and it feels very quiet. There aren't many tourists here, so it's a good place to get away from the big city for a vacation. But it's also a disadvantage, which is that it's inconvenient to buy things. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. There are only simple sightseeing boats sailing on the river, and there are also a lot of love chains. It is said that the names of the two lovers should be carved on the chains, and then the keys should be thrown into the river, which means they will never be separated... But I always wonder if there is another business opportunity to find chains. Love now is like a drive-thru, you can say love or break up. Little Venice in Colmar is a charming neighborhood with colorful half-timbered houses lining the canals, dating back to the 14th century. It used to be a market gardeners district where produce was transported by boats on the canals. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk along the water, dip their feet in, or have a picnic. It's also recommended for families and joggers, offering a pleasant place to relax and take in some fresh air.
