I have gluten intolerance and I never get to try anything like fish pie. But the servers were extremely knowledgeable and even without me asking told me that I do not need to worry about cross contamination. Whenever I ask for anything related to gluten in London, people are confused. It's so refreshing to see a tourist town having such know about allergens. The food was great. Generous quantities and worth the money.

Really good fish and chips! They cook their chips in beef dripping, but also have a vegetarian side cooked in vegetable oil. I was a little disappointed in the size of the cod. I ordered the large at £21.95 and it was no different in size, even smaller than some of the mediums I could see on others plates. The mushy peas were excellent, the curry sauce looked bland but was very tasty!

The fish absolutely Very Good. I must say. The Salt And Pepper Squid is SMASHING. I would take 3 orders of squid over the fish it’s that good. And I love fish more than you know. The smoked fish excellent. Mixed plate of seafood very good.

Delicious! We had the most friendly and lovely server called Michelle 😀 It's a very busy restaurant, buzzing in fact. Everything was fabulous quality. Clean washrooms. Well worth a visit!

My favourite fish and chips restaurant in Whitby . Excellent fish and chips. Great service wether your eating in our takeaway. My wife and I had cod and chips. Small for her and a regular for me. They even do a large. Perfectly cooked meaty flakes of white fish and proper chips. Delicious

Brilliant fish and chips! Shared them with my wife, as the portions are generous. The mushy peas were also excellent! Really impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant, the staff were really polite! Price is irrelevant when recieving such high quality food and service!

Delicious fish n chips. Thin, crispy batter around fresh fluffy fish. They leave the skin on the fish which gives it extra flavor. Chips are thick and fluffy. Waitress very accommodating and fast service.

The food was as expected, fantastic! Best mushy peas I've ever had in my life. My husband was swooning over the fish and chips, and crab bisque...lol Service was fast and our waitress very pleasant. I had a little trouble navigating the stairs to enter, since I use a cane to walk, but I was very happy to see they had a lift inside to get to the floor with the restrooms.

We had lunch here today. They sat us quickly. They are very helpful. The food was amazing cooked perfectly. The best cod and chips I have ever had. Chips light and fluffy. The batter was delicious and crispy. The cod was super fresh and flaky. And that’s coming from a fishmonger of 17 years. Also had their curry sauce. The best chip shop curry sauce I have ever had. This is one of THE best fish restaurants I have ever visited. It was absolutely packed and we are glad we pre-booked. Considering how busy it was, we were served within 15-20mins. Size of the portions were more than expected. You MUST try the Sundaes too. 10/10!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely fantastic experience at The Magpie Café! The food was delicious from start to finish. The fish and chips were top class, crispy, perfectly cooked, and full of flavour. Wow! This is such a great spot! It's really popular, but the place is quite big, we waited for 15 minutes without a reservation. The food is so fresh! I really can say that the prawns were the best I've ever had. They were truly a delight. The salmon is really good as well. Fresh and delicious. This was the highlight of our Whitby trip!

We pre-booked to avoid the queue and were seated promptly, though the table was quite small and a bit cramped. Starters were the highlight, especially the goat’s cheese salad and the black pudding bon bons, both packed with flavour. Mains were a mixed bag: the crab and chips were enjoyable, but the salmon salad was disappointing, with the salmon being quite tough. Overall, it was an okay experience, but we’ve had better meals elsewhere in Whitby.

I ordered the Four Fish Platter with Cod, Haddock, Plaice, and Skate Wing. It was my first time trying Plaice and Skate Wing in a fish & chips style, and they were absolutely delicious perfectly cooked with a light, crispy golden batter and fresh flavour. The scallop starter was beautifully presented and just as tasty. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. A must-visit in Whitby for fresh seafood lovers!

My favourites amongst the dishes we ordered are the fish pie and fish cakes. They were absolutely delicious. I personally find the lobster slightly overcooked but it’s fresh and tasty. The restaurant has a very nice view looking out the sea. If you want a window seat I would recommend booking for earlier lunch or dinner which we did. Price wise, I think it is pricier than another establishment we dined at

Although the restaurant has lovely views of the sea, the food itself is unfortunately extremely overpriced for both the quality and portions. The cod didn’t include sides despite the high price and the scampi and scallops were both tiny portions and very overcooked. Additionally, the bathrooms very very cramped and very dirty which was disappointing. Overall, although the views and staff were nice the food was a major disappointment.

What an absolutely delightful experience .We enjoyed the freshest seafood, with the mussels and oysters being particular highlight.delicious ,amazing views and the wonderful company. Highly recommend any one love seafood.

Had seafood linguine and mussels with chips. The mussels were big, fat & juicy. Best I've ever had. In fact this was the best meal we had in Whitby.

I wanted to eat seafood during my holidays in Whitby and chose the Marine Bar & Restaurant for a very early dinner. There were not many other guests yet so it was nice and quiet. The food was absolutely delicious! On top of that our table had a lovely harbour view.

A nice place if you love seafood! Here’s the feedback on food we had: Sea bass - nice but feels like there wasn’t much with it - my partner was glad he ordered fries to go with it. Sea trout - really nice! Crab linguine - tasted nice, lots of crab and reasonable at £20. It did feel like it was missing something in terms of flavour but can’t put our finger on what. It also gets very spicy as you keep eating so be aware of this! Crème Brûlée was AMAZING! Service was really good and we were glad we went, would recommend a visit.

Had a beautiful meal at the marine. The staff were accommodating and friendly, the environment was clean and comfortable and the food was incredible. Me and my mum had never had oysters so were allowed to order one each as a starter just to try, which were delicious! We then had a whole lobster thermidor each which was amazing also. Excellent place for seafood and good wine. We had the seafood platter which comprised whole lobster; whole crab, oysters, gravalax; mackerel pate, prawns, langoustines dressed with samphire, lemon wedges sourdough toast and the usual accompaniments of shallot vinegar, Tabasco, horseradish mayo... delicious. Washed down with some very nice French white

Very disappointing and overpriced. The scallops were undercooked, the pasta linguine tasted like it had been frozen rather than fresh, and the whole dish lacked seasoning or flavour. For the price, we expected far better quality and care in preparation. A positive Would be that the staff were nice and friendly. However, would not recommed.

We had a fantastic evening at Cosa Nostra in Whitby! From start to finish, everything was perfect. The cocktails were delicious and both our starter and main course were packed with flavour. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience feel really relaxed and enjoyable. The atmosphere is lovely, and we honestly couldn’t fault a single thing about the food. Very lovely atmosphere, all staff were friendly, happy to chat and probably the best customer service I've had. The food was amazing, we had Tiger prawns for the starter and the chefs special for the main. Thankfully they offer boxes to take the food to go, as I couldn't manage all of it and didn't want to waste it. So I had it the next day. Absolutely will return here.

Came here for an Italian as this place was largely recommended to us. The food is absolutely brilliant! It is a bit pricey however worth the price in my opinion. The service however unfortunately was not great. We felt extremely rushed. Within a minute or 2 of us sitting down they took our drinks order, and before they even arrived no more than a few minutes after that they wanted our food order. We asked for more time and they gave us a minute in which we asked for me and this time they were more patient. Whilst eating our food the wait staff was walking up and down the stairs past the tables. I thought that this was so they could be on hand in case we needed anything. The minute I put my fork down to take a drink they came over to try and take our plates, whilst my partner took our son to the bathroom. I picked my fork back up and they then retreated. It felt like we were being watched and timed to eat our food and unfortunately this dampered our whole experience. One extra positive that we quite liked was that they offered lego boxes to the children who came to help distract them!

Best service in a long time, super friendly and helpful staff and the food was top, so we had a brilliant evening to celebrate a special occasion. We had the prosciutto pizza and the pasta with gorgonzola sauce (to die for), lovely Italian red wine and desserts. Cannot recommend enough!

Nice atmosphere with efficient staff. Compact menu comprising of typical Italian dishes. My starter of mushrooms in a cream source was luke warm which I sent back. However, it was taken away and a new hot dish was presented. The other starters and main courses were very good. The only comment I would make is that the sauces in the starters and two of the main courses lacked seasoning. All of us thought the same. Would we come again? Yes.

Just spent 2 nights here for our 30th wedding anniversary. The room was perfect, we stayed in the Martini suite. Lovely decor, spacious and a comfy bed. The view was an added bonus as well! The staff were all lovely and couldn't do enough for you. We opted to have breakfast in our room, which was spot on. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a posh restaurant in Whitby and we ordered lobster, steak, stone bass, and seafood pasta. It doesn’t have a view as the shops cross the street blocked it. Overall we enjoyed it for the special occasion.

Looked a nice place 2 cocktails for 15 pound sounded nice, however you could not get different cocktails they had to be the same, I asked for a porn star martini which cost 12 pound so went back and asked if I could do the 15 pound deal to be told that cocktails was not included. I realise there was a list of cocktails but felt the staff could have been a bit more helpful. We would have stayed and come back but not now

Didn't stay in the hotel just popped in for a drink and lunch. Everything was really good excellent service. So good I even decided to go back in the morning for breakfast will definitely be back next time I'm in whitby and it's even dog friendly

We were here on holiday last week, and visited this restaraunt pretty late in the evening, but they could not have been more helpful in seating us, and getting us menu's. The staff were very good, explaining everything, service was quick, and the food was delicious, especially those hanging kebabs! Definitley will be back next time we visit.

Lovely setting inside this evening. We both had Chef's specials, Hake with Sag aloo & Bhaji was excellent but the chef's fish pie was disappointing, description was white fish, salmon, prawns & mussels. This had absolutely no mussels in it and was mainly salmon & prawns with one chunk of white fish. The server gave us a glass of wine to compensate which was a nice touch but it was ashame there was hardly any white fish or mussels which are a local catch.

Great pizza place with cozy, modern interior. A bit out of the center but that's not a bad thing in Whitby as there was plenty of parking. It was busy and booking is recommended, but we got a table last minute which was much appreciated. The pepperoni pizza was too spicy for our taste.

Average pizza, very thin and lots of cheese. Prawn pasta was good though. Very bad music playing through speakers. sounds like it was made on garage band in 10 minutes. Nice decoration though

Absolutely love their gluten free pizza. They actually do large size and fill it up with toppings. They are not stingy and the pizza tastes amazing. I would go to Whitby from London again just for their pizza.

Managed to walk in with two friends and get a seat at the bar thanks to helpful and friendly staff. Best gluten free pizza I've had in a while. It was great to sit and watch the excellent staff work around each other. Young people putting a shift in making pizza, preparing drinks and waiting tables. If you own this place you have a great team working for you. Highly recommend Pizza West and I will always eat here for a night whenever back in Whitby.

Atmosphere and food was great! We started with the garlic bread and meatballs and they were both amazing! Dough of pizzas were fresh and tasty and the pasta dishes were really nice! Would highly recommend!!

What a find. Whilst staying in Whitby we were lucky to find Pizza West. An amazing atmosphere. Relaxed and modern. The food was superb. All fresh ingredients and so tasty. The pizzas had a unique twist but I’ve really not had better, and I do love pizza. My personal favourite (and I’m not usually a pudding person) was vanilla ice cream, with olive oil and sea salt. Yep. It works. The team at Pizza West know how to create a relaxed atmosphere but were both attentive and professional. As my father in law said after our meal - “First Class Food.” Many thanks

Great location with a terrace overlooking the harbour. Large and spacious with tables spread out - very comfy. Food was good especially the whitebait which was amazing. My husbands white fish was a little overdone but otherwise would definitely return here.

Abbey Wharf is a wonderfully welcoming spot with incredibly friendly staff who make the visit feel special from the moment you arrive. The views are absolutely stunning—worth the trip alone—and it’s great to see access for all, including wheelchair users. We tried the new Craven cod, and it was awesome—plentiful, satisfying, and beautifully cooked. We also had the salmon, which was epic, and the burgers, which the boys loved. I wouldn’t go so far as to claim it’s the very best fish and chip shop in Whitby, but it’s definitely up there. Highly recommended, especially for that amazing view and thoughtful accessibility.

Lively atmosphere, great views. Does the basics on food well. Dog friendly. Staff seem a little over it. Expensive on the drinks and extras. Felt a touch exploited by the cost of drinks really. bar staff had lost the will to live a little… you decide on value, receipt in photo. It’s a reliable and friendly place overall - always busy.

I got the beef mince pie and my partner got the steak and stout pie. We loved THEM! The service took a bit of time for them to say hello and seat us— there were only a few tables in at the time and to get our bill. Either than that, everything was lovely. Highly recommend this place to visit and the beef mince. I prefer it to the steak and ale, but that’s just my opinion :)

Literally not joking, the absolute best pie I have ever had! Very decent filling, VERY flavoursome, light short pastry, proper seasoning, mash and mushy peas top notch! Super friendly staff. It would be lethal if I lived local to this place, I’d be in there for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day! You’d have to roll me home!

What a unique and unexpected experience! Having traveled to northern Yorkshire for the day, we walked the shopping district and happened upon this quaint restaurant in a building and ties with deep history dating back to King Charles I's era. Having had bangers and mash and these steak pie for the first time, both were SO good! Everything was drizzled with this yummy gravy, which was so good we had to ask for more. The restaurant decor made it feel like you were sitting in a real pub back in the 1700s. The service was super friendly and fast!

The best pie and mash in the country! We travel from Scotland a couple of times a year just to visit humble pie and mash! We enjoyed our second meal of the week there today and it was gorgeous as ever and the staff cannot do enough for you. I get the chicken pie every time and my husband always gets the steak and ale pie!

Lots of great reviews for this place. I would rate my sausage and black pudding pie as average at best. Mash was OK and peas were hard. Soft drinks only. Not expensive but not great value for a pie. Maybe the others are better.

Visited Hadley Fish and Chip Restaurant on 23 September and again on 26 September whilst on holiday in the area. On each ocassion we received a warm and friendly greeting. We were shown to a clean table promptly. The 4 of us ordered The Special which consisted of Cod, Chips, Peas, Bread and Butter plus a pot of tea. It was evident that all were cooked fresh, served hot, in a timely manner, cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. The price was excellent £20.85 each for a regular portion. Smaller portions were also available. There was no after taste and our meal was not greasy at all. We would definately recomend and return. Many Thanks.

First time trying here after it being recommended by numerous people. The service was attentive and super friendly. The portions wern’t as large as we’re used to in West Yorkshire (we’re big fans of Murgatroyds whale like fish in Yeadon) and no option for skin off on haddock so we all opted for cod which was fresh & succulent. They use vegetable oil when frying which isn’t as flavoursome as beef dripping IMO and the curry sauce & mushy pea’s were a little bland. But the fish,chips,peas & bread/cup of tea deal for under £25 is a bargain and a steal compared to other Whitby chippies.

Visited Whitby today and stopped in here for lunch before tackling the 199 steps up to Whitby Abbey. One of the best Fish & Chip restaurants we’ve been to. Had to queue at the door for a few minutes until a table was ready but arranged quickly and friendly welcome to our table. Food arrived before drinks and one order was missing mushy peas which we realised after leaving but didn’t spoil a great meal.

We walked into Hadley's and was immediately shown to a table. We ordered the fish and chips for two and my daughter, who is vegan had a side salad and some of our chips, which she loved! The best fish and chips we've had for ages, truly delicious, we emptied our plates. The staff were very helpful and friendly too ❤️

We visited this take away fish and chip shop on a Saturday early evening and there was a queue of others waiting and many others joined after us! Good value food served promptly, given the numbers waiting. There is a small restaurant area there too, for those who can't wait to get their food home!

Came here with a hen party big group during busy goth weekend, they very kindly opened up early for our group (planned ahead of time). The staff were phenomenal, friendly and on the ball with their service. They gave us recommendations for where to go out after and we’re so energetic with us. The food came out hot, delicious and fast with very generous portions. You set up our day so well, couldn’t have been better. Thank you

One of the best restaurants we have been to in terms of food quality, staff friendliness and hospitality. We arrived with no booking and informed there was an hour wait so to grab a drink elsewhere. well worth the wait! The Verde and american (hot) pizzas were excellent and so filling. all the staff showed such attentiveness and it made for a perfect date night. 💗 (photos are only of the females bathroom as it was decorated to the theme and had lots of feminine products for free which was a kind touch)

Wow. To say that was the best pizza I have ever had is saying something. I got the cajun chicken pizza which is hot but I cooled it down slightly with the garlic mayonnaise. My partner got the Di Mare which was an unbelievably good pasta dish rammed with gorgeous seafood with a lovely creamy sauce. We got talking to the staff and leant this was a family run business and they were so friendly and even bring their dog to work who sits on her chair and behaves so so good. We both loved it so much we will be most definitely be going back there!

Situated across the bridge overlooking the harbour on your right. A small very warm/hot place with a massive brick built pizza ovan as you walk in pelting out heat. We were sat under the mezzanine with low ceiling so it was hot. They've packed alot of seats in so its quite noisy and adds to the warmth. Friendly staff who were very helpful. Mainly pizza's and pasta dishes. We had the Verde pizza, which was; goats cheese, asparagus, spinach and artichoke. I loved the toppings but the pizza was hard, probably due to its thinness. I like a thin pizza base, but this was too thin. I've had better Woodfired pizza's. Toilets are downstairs. Love the dog which has its own chair.

always loved dining here , the food ,service and atmosphere are all excellent , however on 4 occasions our booking has been cancelled a few hours before we were due to eat , i understand that on this occasion the chef was in hospital and i wish him well and hope that he is recovered , but as 8 of us are returning to whitby in a couple of weeks with 2 children i feel i dare not risk being cancelled again . great shame as its our favorite place to dine .

Can’t comment on the rooms. We had a lovely meal, the service was good and the seafood platter was delicious and fresh. The lobster Thermidor was amazing, the sauce wasn’t too rich and there was so much meat. The crab linguine and the trout was a bit bland, but plenty of crab meat and pasta was cooked perfectly. Highly recommend for lunch.

Was really looking forward to meal, husband had crab linguini, I had biloubasse, absolutely tasteless, bought to our table in ten minutes after ordering which made me suspicious, billoubasse had three prawns, six mussels and a tiny amount of fish in a tasteless watery sauce with one slice of sourdough bread, had a bottle of Chardonnay between us and Bill cam to £81, I could of cried, I don't mind paying for good food and wine but this was a complete waste of my time and money. I was expecting quality good but should have gone to the Magpie or Abbey wharf far better quality food.

Started off really nice with the wine and the starters. But everything fell apart when the main meals came- the lasagne was 3 sheets of cold pasta with 20 whole tomatoes. The chicken supreme was far from supreme and lacked all elements of the dish (also came with 20 tomatoes).

Room was lovely with a brilliant view, excellent location, food was good too. The only downside I can think of is that we drove past it the first time, would be good if there was a sign facing the road. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Cant comment on the rooms as we only went for a meal. We were not impressed. Overpriced and trying to be something the kitchen team just cant achieve. Firstly ordered 2 mojitos, they were sent back as they just tasted of tonic water (£13 each). We then both had the scallop starter, this was nothing more than Ok, had better for alot less, the scallops were overpowered by the pea puree. The crab linguine main was very meh and the sole my wife had even less so. The mojitos were removed from the bill, we ordered rum+pepsi and a amerreto+pepsi plus the 2 courses each £100. Ridiculous. Save your money and go for fish and chips. 1/3 of the cost and you leave full and satisfied. Rather than leaving, feeling like yoube been mugged.

Had a starter of Gravalax and a main of sea trout. Both dishes were delicious and cooked superbly. Can not fault the food or service, top notch, highly recommended 👍

Interesting pub. Went in there as it was advertised they would a football game on one of the tv's. Nobody was watching tv, so asked if I could have the efl cup final on. NO!! Can't change channels (why advertise it then?).

Visit this pub 4 or 5 long weekends a year and spend 50 to 100 a visit! Visited over the bank holiday weekend, refused a loyalty card that we where willing to pay for(not had to purchase one before) just because we are not local, always had a loyalty card from the place before, left after that, will not return. Such a shame we loved the place.

Called in at 10.45pm on a Saturday night to a welcome of we are closing in a bit. Asked for spirits but limited choice. No ice available and pub not the cleanest. Poor atmosphere and felt they just wanted us out. Zero stars for the Star Inn.

Beware if you have an Irish/Scottish accent and God forbid if you are mixed raced. You will be set upon by the regulars and the landlady, they still live in 1970s here. Not a safe pub if your are visiting whitby.

Just had a drink, so can't tell about food, but we did enjoy the beer and the atmosphere, so did the dog!

Visited The Star Inn (briefly) during a pub crawl along Whitby Harbour. Although it is a Cask Marque pub, there were only three hand-pumped ales - of which two were out of stock and I just had had the remaining one at the pub before that (the altogether far superior The Ship). It is a typical old-style boozer with rather worn furniture: a whaterhole. Given the disappointing selection I only had 1/2 pint of (too cold) Guinness Draught and left quickly for other, better pubs. Cannot recommend it.

Great location very close to the harbor and bars and restaurants. Rooms are adequate, furniture is a little outdated but for spending a night or two it’s fine. The shower is great as well. Word of caution if you are expecting an elevator, there isn’t one so carrying your case up the stairs can be tough if it’s a big heavy case. Definitely worth the day. Don’t forget to check into Bagdale Hall on arrival.

Just come home from a lovely stay .rooms very clean .bed comfortable. The only thing is they don't state it's up a hill so someone in a wheelchair would not get there .

We stayed 2 nights early Sept 23. The place on balance is lovely. Location great. A massive letdown was the state of the shower cubicle. It was in a sad state! Black mould on tiles and base. Sealant was cracked and mouldy. Limescale encrusted door surround. Shower itself was good but again black mould on tap fittings. We made our feelings known to the manager, possibly the owner, but the response was indifferent to say the least. Have to say reception staff were great. Left feeling dissatisfied and disappointed.

Neat, simple and clean, the port town of Whitby has some cool things to see and do. Plenty of good spots to eat and the accommodation was within walking distance of it all. Fairly priced for what it is. If your after luxury accommodation this might not be for you. But if your wanting something fairly priced with a spot to park your car then lobster hall is perfect. Just be aware the accommodation doesn't have a reception in the building and you need to walk down the road to one of the pubs and see the receptionist there for check-in, would recommend being clear with your arrival time when you book and arriving punctually as I do not believe the desk there is manned 24/7.

Everything you need after a long motorbike ride. Powerful shower comfy bed and a well stocked coffee and tea tray. The room is small but not cramped, it is also very clean. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you Lobster hall

Always an excellent stay here. Parking is perfect as now have individual boxes where before was a bit of a free for all. Rooms are clean and bright. Close to amenities and the hustle and bustle but pretty quiet.

An excellent place to stay. Friendly, fantastic staff. Excellent location. Rooms are very clean, comfortable, very nice amenities, coffe/tea biscuits. A one minute walk to the centre of town. 2 minutes to the sea. Nice quiet bar to wind down after a great day sightseeing. Definitely recommend.
