Bagdale Hall Hotel is a storied 16th-century manor house with a rich history and plenty of character. The property retains many original features, including beamed ceilings and stone wall carvings, creating an enchanting atmosphere for guests. Visitors can experience the charm of classical designs in the bedrooms, complete with chesterfield sofas and original fireplaces. Despite its historic allure, the hotel offers modern facilities to ensure a comfortable stay.
A lovely relaxing calm soothing atmosphere. A nice refuge from the excitement of Whitby. Lovely kind staff. Great service. Amazing food. A unique Whitby experience. Steeped in Tudor history. There is a relaxing comfy lounge area as well as a bar to complement the restaurant.

Stayed in Crab Hall. Room was clean and tidy but with the noisiest toilet and hardest bed. Booked the restaurant on Wednesday for a meal which was then cancelled because they had no chef. The bar is limited and expensive. The breakfast was great and served well. I would have given it four stars but on checking out we were challenged to prove we had paid for our 3 night stay. Not exactly a cheery wave on the way out.

On line booking was easy and the hotel communicated with us prior to arrival to ascertain any extras we may need. The booking in process again was easy. Christian was very professional, courteous and provided us with ideas of where to visit in Whitby and surrounding area. We were very impressed with our room. It was as described, large, clean and the furniture was in keeping with age of the hotel. The bed was very comfortable and we had a good view out of our double aspect windows. The breakfast was excellent in regard to quality and choice. The breakfast staff were very courteous, friendly and seemed genuinely interested in how we were enjoying our stay and plans for the visit. We had a fabulous time and will definitely stay at Bagdale Hall in the future and will recommend it to our friends.

Amazing hotel, full of history. Rooms so comfortable and clean, staff very helpful. Great choice for breakfast. Ideally located for a short walk into the main areas of town. Really could not have chosen a better hotel.

A fantastic stay at Bagdale. The place is ideal fir any stay in W whitby. The breakfast was the best ever. Staff went out of their way to make our stay special. 10/10 Bagdale. Keep doing what you are doing and don't change a thing..

Stayed for my Wife’s birthday. The room was excellent, I’d arranged for a (rather reasonable) bottle of Pol Roger to be waiting on arrival and we also found complimentary bottle of house red. The hotel is beautifully appointed and very charming. We had an evening meal of steak pie, which was absolutely fantastic and an excellent Sunday lunch, at quite short notice. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Overall, I recommend this hotel very highly.

An absolute gem in the middle of Whitby booked for three nights parking is on site and the hotel is 15th century Grade 2 listed and wow can't you tell it's truly magnificent, the check in is faultless and the staff are exceptionally friendly, helpful and attentive, the bar is reasonably priced and the breakfast and service superb the hotel is very clean and the coffee tea offering in the room is the best we've ever had, Debbie the housekeeper was great But all the staff were, the Bagdale has a tremendously happy, friendly vibe we'll definitely be going back big thank you to Michael and the team

The Saxonville Hotel is a charming family-run establishment located on West Cliff in Whitby, North Yorkshire. The hotel offers simple and brightly decorated rooms, a great restaurant, and complimentary breakfast for guests. Situated near the seafront and within walking distance of the town center, it provides a peaceful location with the convenience of a private on-site car park. Guests have praised the friendly staff who go above and beyond to accommodate their needs, as well as the cleanliness and quality furnishings of the rooms.
We have just taken a last minite break at this hotel. The hotel interior is very traditional, but in imaculate condition throughout. The breakfast was lovely and included table service too with friendly, efficient waitresses. The reception staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Our room was a very traditional double room and very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was new and the water piping hot. We both slept very well. The hotel is in a residential area and it is quiet on a night time. The hotel has the bonus of a first come, first served car park that accommodates abot ten cars. The hotel is on the West Cliff and about a 15 minute walk into Whitby. If you walk the opposite direction for about 45 minutes you end up in Sandsend which is a lovely, quaint village with a couple of decent sea front cafes and at least one pub. This place is definately worth staying at and we shall return here on our next visit to Whitby............

Most important first and that's the breakfast !! And that was excellent with top class service by very nice and helpful staff . The rooms were very clean . Only negative thing was the Water pressure in the shower was poor but you can't expect everything to be perfect.. will defo stay again as me and the wife had a great week end away thank you

Very old fashioned hotel that could do with a major refurbishment. Very expensive for what was meant to be a deluxe room. We had phoned ahead for a twin room but none available onarrival so had to pay £20 a night extra for the supposedly deluxe rooms. Towels threadbare( see attached photo). Peach bathroom right out of the 70's. Shower flooded the small bathroom floor on first use. Reception staff were completely useless and afraid of a bit of work. Honestly not great at all. Breakfast wS certainly lying OK and the breakfast staff were great . We had a group evening meal. The food was so old fashioned and bland. Salmon overcooked no taste. 3 courses was only £30 but I wish we had hone out. Started the meal at 7pm and before 9pm the waiter was making it very obvious he was clearing up. I would definitely NOT stay again at that price. By the way still with g for Nicola tocome back to us overnot initially having our twin room available. Without the breakfast staff, it would have got 1 star!

Excellent hotel. Rooms are very clean and a good size. Staff are very friendly and polite. The breakfast is very nice. We will definitely stay again.

Absolutely fantastic hotel. Rooms are just perfect. Spotless so clean and tidy. Beds more than comfortable they are perfect. Pillows so comfortable slept like a baby. Waiter/waitress service made all the difference. Old school service loved every minute of it. Food was beautiful selection for breakfast fantastic. And now to the staff every single one of the staff so professional so polite and lovely. From booking to leaving (not that we wanted to leave) could have stayed for ages. But work on Monday 😪. All I can say is thank you so much all of you especially Gerda on reception as we decided to book a extra night on the friday and she did everything to sort it out for us. So Thank you all again. Yes the hotel is still old style. But that is what makes it. I love the fact that you still have to old key locks on the doors. I love all the vintage locks in the hotel and the old school waiter service. If you want modern go somewhere else. Nothing needs doing at all to this hotel it is exactly as it should be. Its clean its 100% fantastic. Please take no notice of the reviews who are saying it is dated. It is not at all it is beautiful and the way hotels should be. Loved our stay and this will always be my go to hotel in whitby from now on. Little Gem of a hotel And yes we will be back. Mr Barrie Slater and Mrs Amanda Slater

Very clean, spacious and well appointed room; Comfortable and welcoming hotel in general; very attentive staff and very good customer service; excellent breakfast - choices, portions, quality and preparation of food. The hotel is in a very good location - very quiet and peaceful but only around 15 minutes walk into Whitby centre. I stayed for 3 nights with my wife - both of us late 60's - and used the hotel to tour the area (Runswick Bay, Robin Hood's Bay, Staithes) as well as getting to know Whitby. It suited us perfectly and wold definitely stay again. Highly recommended hotel.

La Rosa Hotel, located on East Terrace in Whitby, is a quirky Victorian townhouse offering themed rooms with unique decor and antique furniture. The hotel boasts amazing views of the harbor and Whitby Abbey from many of its rooms. Guests can enjoy a stay in one of the nine themed rooms, each featuring vintage vinyl and plenty of books. The hotel's atmosphere is described as more boudoir than boutique, putting Victorian seaside fun at center stage.
Went for my birthday, it was absolutely delightful. We took our dog with us and stayed in the Sacre Coeur room. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous with so many little details. The staff were so lovely and welcoming. We are already discussing when we will go back for our next stay 🤍

An easy five star review. This quirky, and fiercely independent hotel was our home from home during a weekend in Whitby. The staff are extremely friendly, the owners incredibly helpful and charming - with a cracking sense of humour. It’s so nice to stay in a hotel with style and taste vs the bland and indentikit places that are so frequently on offer. The buffet breakfast was served on antique plates in a room with a stunning view. Vegans very well catered for with advance notice. Freshly laid leopard print carpet set the tone - this is a place of fun and hedonism. In keeping with this, rooms don’t have TVs, but there is speedy WiFi throughout. We’ll be back in a heartbeat. Thanks for making our weekend extra special ❤️

Absolutely amazing hotel! We stayed for 3 nights and it was fantastic. The hotel is gorgeously decorated throughout, with each room themed and filled with character. Breakfast delivered to our door was a lovely thing to wake up to. Our room had a bath, a comfy queen (maybe king?) bed, with a seafront view that included the harbour, the steps, and the Abbey. Parking was directly out front which was a great help. Loads of places nearby for lil bits, and a very short walk into Whitby centre. The staff we're all wonderful and welcoming and made our stay as magical as the hotel itself. I really could go on with more details, but I'd rather outright say it's fab, fantastic, and a true gem. Thank you to the staff who looked after us on our anniversary holiday, you're amazing. And thank you John, the hotel dog, for allowing us to pet you.

A beautiful hotel which is a world away from the norm. Full of antiquities and objet d'art, perfectly placed throughout the hotel with beautiful attention to detail. Each room is creatively themed to a particular style. With the option of breakfast being brought to the door of your room with a quaint vintage flair with beautiful glass bottles, saucers and tea cups. If you want a memorable hotel experience I would highly recommend La Rosa, you will not be disappointed.

Brilliant hotel, playful interior Including ocelot print carpet throughout and a fortune telling booth in the breakfast room. Great welcome from all the team who went out of their way to make sure that our group off giddy pals had the best weekend . Wonderful stuff xx
M B — Google review
Friendly staff, funky surrounds and fantastic views made this an incredible 5-star experience for my partner and I as we visited Whitby. All within short walking distance of everything. Parking was arranged on the street outside the hotel. There is no lift so keep this in mind for those with mobility concerns. A delicious selection of drinks are available in the downstairs “cocktail library” and if you’re lucky you will meet the friendly hotel dog named John. Overall though 5/5 - will return and recommend!
Jack — Google review
A wonderful, quirky hotel with great service. It is not your normal bland hotel. It is full of character and the decor is amazing. It's more than a place to stay, it is an experience. The rooms are decorated around different themes with lots of oddments bringing the character. Breakfast is a continental bag with the essentials which surpringly does you for the morning. The cocktails in the cocktail lounge is brilliant. Well worth the visit. P.s. dogs are more than welcome. Room Little Red is just for one person though. If there are two of you then you will need a bigger room.
Nicholas S — Google review
Nice hotel BUT very very pricy if you book through booking .com for the money £160 ish thought this was top end expensive with NO breakfast no parking you had to pay extra and it was vegi which is NO for me and wife. BOOKING direct gets you the breakfast and cheaper rate plus the next following day it went down in price thought that was cheeky .Hotel is really nice with good service and brilliant views from bedrooms that's what you pay for .. but very noisy on street with people racing cars so didn't sleep well. Value for money NO I wouldn't return as there are far cheaper places that offer breakfast parking etc

The Stables is a charming hotel and restaurant offering rustic rooms set around a picturesque courtyard, providing a classic and cozy atmosphere. Located in the heart of Whitby, it offers easy access to the stunning coastal and countryside beauty of North Yorkshire. The inn provides a comfortable stay with proximity to major attractions in the area. The on-site restaurant serves delicious meals, while guests can enjoy refreshing drinks from the well-stocked bar.
2 of us visited for food not to stay in the hotel. We ordered from the 2 courses for £20 menu and I chose Fish and Chips and Apple and Blackberry Crumble. Both courses were delicious and delivered to our table promptly. We visited on a friday at 2pm in mid September so it was quiet. Pleasant gardens outside and plenty of seating inside including a long room which overlooks the gardens. We have visited many times but this is the first time since they've launched their new app that gives you points for your purchases. Highly recommended.

Nice easy location. Looks the part. Might be an OK hotel. But we just dropped in for a meal. Was willing to accept the typical plastic pub menu on this occasion. Ordered Sausage&Mash. Simple. Wasn't expecting much of the mash and wasn't disappointed in that respect. BUT the sausage was tougher than the shoes on my tired feet. I know we could of sent it back, but as it took nearly an hour to reach us and we were tired and hungry we gave up..our decision. Don't normally write these, but this experience warrants the effort. Just a warning to others. OK but don't get your hopes up or fooled by the look of the place. Not busy but I expect under staffed for the August holiday season
Ian G — Google review
Wow brilliant hotel. Wonderful rooms and quality staff. The food is very good as well. Park and ride opposite into Whitby every 15 mins. The walk into Whitby is along a very busy fast road with no pavements on the verge so my advice is take the bus opposite.
Mike — Google review
DO NOT ACCEPT ANY COURTYARD ROOMS CLOSE TO THE KITCHEN FAN.. It's deafening between 6.30am and 9.30pm....... HOWEVER..... The managers were excellent and immediately offered us a lovely room at the back, against the countryside. Extremely caring, polite and helpful. Saved what could have been a 'difficult' start to our 5 night break. This is our 2nd visit and will not be our last!
Malcolm C — Google review
I can’t thank them enough. I had drove 4 hours to Whitby to stay elsewhere and had a terrible experience and left with no where else to stay. I came to the stables and straight away they helped me with a room, I was so grateful with their service and them accommodating us so last minute that I started crying, all of the staff on tonight have been amazing, every single one of them. The room is gorgeous and the food was amazing, 10/10 I honestly couldn’t recommend this place enough.
Danielle B — Google review
Really nice place to visit on my way back from the coast. I didn't stay here. I called in for a meal. A very nice set up on arrival with very nicely kept grounds. This is a dog friendly establishment. A very spacious dining area with a nice breeze blowing through. Not cheap but I had sausage and mash which came with seasonal vegetables and plenty of gravy. Very nicely presented on the plate. All staff were helpful and pleasant. I will definitely be back. Well done everyone.
Ann J — Google review
Booked for a family weekend get away Location is great and the stables is a very attractive place. However we paid 240 for a very bog standard room and a breakfast that only included toast and cold items. Compare this to a holiday inn or other competitor that offers hot breakfast and semi decent rooms for much cheaper.
Nicholas G — Google review
Very well presented room and very welcoming staff. Though our stay was only short I would be happy to stay longer, fantastic views from the decking and the gardens at the rear and wonderful food. The prices are reasonable. Overall a wonderful place to stop over if you’re visiting Whitby or the surrounding area. There is also the park and ride just across the way so you don’t have to deal with the hustle and bustle of Whitby Centre Parking. I would highly recommend doing this.

The White Horse & Griffin is a historic property located on the east side of Whitby, offering laid-back rooms in a former 17th-century coaching inn. The restaurant provides a seafood-orientated menu with traditional and modern dishes made from locally sourced ingredients. This rustic pub was frequented by British explorers Captain Cook and William Scoresby, and it boasts a rich history dating back to 1681.
Had a really lovely meal when we were here for a couple of days on holiday during the summer holidays. The food was excellent holiday and of the 7 places we had an evening meal while we were away in Horbury, York, Whitby, Bamburgh and Edinburgh this was easily my favourite. I'm a very fussy eater and it's always difficult for us to find somewhere to eat because of that so normally I end up having a burger but what I had (pork rack) was absolutely delicious and if we are ever back in the area we would definitely come back here again.
Harry E — Google review
Feels like a secret hideaway! First discovered this charming pub in winter and it ticked all my boxes for a cosy and quiet lunch with a welcoming fire and lovely atmosphere. Wines are delicious and food tasty and beautifully presented. A return visit in summer did not disappoint. A new favourite for us!

Room was very small, bedding clean, but bed very uncomfortable. Rest of room could of done with a deep clean. Walked past a mop bucket full of black water that was being used to mop floor. Told one room for breakfast to sit and wait and find out it was in a different part of the building. Not a great experience, would not recommend.
K L — Google review
We stayed last week for three nights. It is certainly a very old building with a lot of history and character, however it needs extensive refurbishment (including the plumbing which was very erratic. The shower varied from being a good pressure to just a trickle), whilst maintaining it's character and charm. It's situation is great on the Abbey side of the river fairly close to a car park, although it can be hit and miss getting a parking space. The hospitality has lost it's finesse. The staff tried to be welcoming, but some faired better than others. The food is mixed; some aspects of the meal were delicious; the meat was faultless but my husband's chips were thin and oily without any substance, the onion rings were also oily and lacked the light crispiness you'd expect. My cream brûlée did not have the characteristic burnt sugar topping but was rather like a stodgy chocolate mousse. I am sad to say in it's current state and with the lack of a warm hospitality and far from gastronomic food it once served with finesse that I would not choose to stay or dine there in the future. I do hope it's current owners manage to recapture all it has lost, without putting off future customers.

Just returned from 1 night stay at this hotel. We booked room after viewing website which looked impressive. We were put in a room in the loft. The room was dirty scruffy and cold. One of the velux windows in the roof was hanging out with sign warning you not to open. The furniture in the room needed disposing of, the bathroom was rotten. I could go on and on. Only positive was staff member was polite and professional.Thankfully we had a great time in Whitby however will never return to this hotel

nice old character building in a great location. could hear some other noises and doors banging on landing at times. breakfast was excellent tho, staff friendly, and a great spot to explore the lovely town from.
Andrew W — Google review
Food didn't meet my expectations after first visit a year ago. Very average overall after we spent over £300 for 4 persons. Just lacked a professional finish, no sauce or flair to the lamb shoulder main and duck starter Oysters were very good though. Wine had a decent selection but no show stoppers mid range, don't let your wine rep create the whole menu. Place needs some guidance and extra edge but not to far away from getting there. At least two service staff weren't good enough and let the rest down. Training needed.

We had a delicious dinner in the small, historic dining room. Great menu selections, including vegetarian options. We had three courses - all delicious and opted for cheese as dessert. So glad we came here.

Fabulous little boutique hotel with an easy walk down to the Whitby seaside. Everything was immaculately clean and a comfy bed with fresh, white linen. Staff and service are fabulous and the meals in the restaurant are delicious. Make sure you book for dinner because they fill up very quickly. A lovely stay. Thank you

nice little hotel , clean rooms and excellent location , has been recently refurbished but could do with air conditioning in the bedrooms , we were on the 3rd floor with an amazing view but the room was so hot. luckily the excellent night porter was able to source us a fan at 2 am so we could sleep. only negative was the bar service , one of the party was given a very dirty glass when asked if it could be changed for a clean one , the drink was poured straight from the dirty glass into the clean one , rather than make a fresh drink.
Matt B — Google review
Lovely hotel, stayed in one of the suites which are clean, spacious and I have to say the most comfortable bed and pillows I have ever experienced in a hotel. Leanne the manager from the bar was so friendly and helpful so thank you! The only critique I can make is that the stair carpet going down to the bar looks tired and dirty. Excellent stay and would definitely stay again.

HUGE No parking SCAM The hotel staff tell you during check-in if you leave before 8am the following day the parking can be validated at the garage for $13 What they fail to tell you is this discount only applies if you check in after 6pm. Not the normal check in time of 4pm. So, you will get to the garage and discover a $35 fee leaving 5 hours before your reservation is up. What a SCAM! I checked in at 4:45pm and left before 7am. Still paid the fee and lost 5 hours of reservation. I wouldn’t recommend anyone who cares about quality and good customer service to select this place. Hair in sink weird fake frosted glass bathroom door… seriously.. felt like someone could press up against the glass and see me Very modular and in accommodating No spare cups. No menus NOTHING!! I will never choose the resolution hotel again

Had a two night stay here Tuesday and Wednesday in the summer holidays, lovely room with a view of the Abbey. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Had breakfast on the morning we left. It is up quite a steep hill so if you're walking from town be prepared for that although it's not a particularly long hill but if you want to go to the Captain Cook Statue and whale bone arch it's an easy walk up a fairly moderate hill and is much easier to get to from the hotel than getting up to it from the town. Parking is a bit of a nightmare and we did struggle to find a place to park and that was further up the hill and around the corner, about a 5 minute walk.

Fantastic hotel with great staff. The room is very clean and large with a outstanding bathroom and shower. The bed was very comfortable with nice soft pillows. We had a few even meals at the restaurant which was great. Delicious food and choice. Parking can be a bit of an issue.

We were placed in a room closest to reception which felt like it had been squeezed in on the refurb. No view apart from few garden brick walls. The restaurant seating wasn’t great, squeezed in a corner next to the door . Great location but don’t think we would return because of this experience.

Such great staff, welcoming and all smiles. The rooms have great views. Also, great location— we walked up and down the coast; what a treat! even as far as the abbey. The restaurants in town are also within walking distance

Every thing about the hotel was perfect. Staff very polite and helpful. Spotlessly clean, breakfast really nice. There is nothing finer than having a cup of tea early morning on cedrics bench. Highly recommend. 10/10.

A lovely hotel in a great position Friendly staff, with a lot of personality and banter from them It was amazing how we could get free teas/coffees from the pub We had a drink in the bar in the evening and we're very impressed with the prices. Pint of lager a small bottle of prosecco for less than half for what we paid in London just for a small prosecco Went down for breakfast and the lad (Stewart?) really looked after us, he brought our mugs for our drinks and took our food order The breakfast was lovely We will be back Than you to all the staff in the hotel and the pub

29/7/25 Very nice place to come and eat with friends and family. However, service lacks in places like cleaning where there are very many tables that haven't been cleared away or cleaned from previous customers. Despite that the food is very quick service for even complex meals with great prices and amazing atmosphere. Definitely recommend going after peak times to getting a table. Plenty of seating inside and outside with great views too. 31/07/25 Today’s visit was no different from the visit 2 days ago. Service is still good but does lack in terms of cleanliness, tables are not cleared away efficiently despite it being constantly busy throughout the week we stayed here in Whitby. The standards of food and drinks is still high.

Visited a number of times in August for breakfast when staying in the area. Would highly recommend visiting as soon as the upstairs opens and sitting at one of the tables in the windows, which have great views over the harbour. Very clean, spacious, and decent food and service. Sitting downstairs definitely isn't as good as the upstairs area, and I would recommend going early, as this venue is packed for the rest of the day. The toilets could benefit from a refurbishment.

We stayed here for 1 night and had a wonderful time. The staff were very attentive. A shout out to Jackie on reception and Nicola in the restaurant. They couldn’t do enough for us. The room was immaculate. Very spacious,, plenty of tea, coffee and chocolate drinks. Bottles of water….one for each of us..often we book for 3 and only get 2 of everything. Extra, lovely glasses for water or if you want to take a drink in. (They are happy give you ice if you want it) The beds were extremely comfortable and the walk in shower was great. Being a Wetherspoons even in a prominent location, the prices are as per everywhere else, not inflated. I promise I’m not an employee or relative, we just thought this hotel was fantastic and would definitely book to stay here again without a doubt. I could go on, but if you are looking at a hotel in Whitby, check it out yourself. In our opinion, you won’t be disappointed..

As a party of four we visited The Angel every morning for breakfast as we have done in the past because it is the best place in Whitby to eat on a morning. The staff were so welcoming, and the efficiency of the service was a credit to the Manager! Food is consistently good and we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast experirnce. Thank you…

Having stayed at Premier inn previously, I wish I'd picked a Wetherspoons. The double room is perfect plus the huge bonus is a window which opens.Heated towel rail too. Staff are very helpful and provided hot plates for our takeout. Slap bang in the middle of the town, perfect. Just wish you'd allow dogs.
Susan O — Google review
This was a very nice location for a Wetherspoons and by all accounts it was perfectly pleasant. There was a nice atmosphere inside and it felt spacious, the only downside was that it was very very busy so finding a table was tricky. Additionally it didn’t feel like staff were very attentive, lots of tables were unoccupied by covered in plates and glasses having not been cleared, and the tables that were clear were often dirty and sticky. I’d certainly go again but would be nice to see staff step up a little more and keep things clean and tidy.
Kieran J — Google review
Waited ages to be served with an empty bar, while 3 staff delt with app orders and totally ignored us. Then they served people who just came to the bar after us. When I said something there was no apology just a 'look'. Not happy. Also very dirty upstairs with nearly everything empty at the hot drinks station and so much washing up piled up by the hatch. Staff didn't seem to care about anything.

Lovely friendly greeting upon arrival, everything we needed to know was explained to us. The room was beautiful and exceptionally clean. Excellent views and A very comfortable bed. Tea and coffee making facilities, with water and milk provided in a fridge on the landing. Breakfast, wow the breakfast room was dressed lovely and inviting, the food was of a high standard, as was the serving of it. A range of cereals and pastries, yoghurt and fruit on offer with juices. Honestly, if you wanted something else that wasn't on the menu, they would try to accommodate you. All the staff here are fab, they always greeted us whenever we entered the bar area. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay here, thank you to all the staff that work here. You are wonderful. A fab atmosphere in here,

Stayed at the Dolphin for two nights . Lovely central location. Check in straightforward . Room was clean & spacious with a lovely view from a little seating are overlooking the harbour. Will definitely be back to this gem of a hotel.

We stumbled across The Dolphin as we were in Whitby for the day and was in need of a drink. We sat down and was greeted by the beautiful smell of Sunday roasts being moved around the pub; we decided to have one just because the smell was so enticing. We were not disappointed, two adult and two children meals came out and I had a trio of meats which normally come with a bit of every meat but I still had the full sized portions of each meat, potatoes were beautiful, gravy seemed like it was lacking but it was very deceiving and went a long way. I left well and truly stuffed and enjoyed every last bites of the roast, I think my way may be fed up of me saying how much I (actually us all) enjoyed the food. Great service especially the lady who was serving the food to the table. Highly recommended!!!

Popped in for a drink. Great atmosphere and got chatting to groups of people around us. Everyone was so lovely and it’s in a great location by the bridge. Only downside was the bartender (Gareth? I think his name was) who had one of the worst attitude I’ve ever seen in customer service. I don’t like to judge as I too work in a bar and will often have a bad day but even I will admit it put me off wanting to return.

The Royal Hotel, located on Whitby's West Cliff, offers bright rooms and stunning views of the sea and Whitby Abbey. The hotel boasts a stately bar, a restaurant with marvelous views, and a ballroom with live entertainment. It is steeped in history and heritage, providing warm hospitality to its guests. The dog-friendly pub at the hotel is perfect for enjoying delicious meals on the sunny terrace or by the log burner in winter.
Myself and my dad thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Royal, the front of house staff were excellent, courteous and considerate. Helped us out during our stay, rooms were clean spacious and quiet, and breakfast was also great. Prime location on the headland and you cant get lost as you can see it from wherever you are in Whitby. Would recommend, and I would ignore previous comments, as the hotel has had a lot of work done recently as have to for upkeep. A great hotel - thanks Team Royal - see you soon.

Really lovely hotel. Room was a lot nicer than expected and could tell it had recently been renovated. Really comfy bed and lovely bathroom. Shower was perfect and easy to use. Had all facilities required. And a really good sized TV! Breakfast was yummy with a good system to ensure fresh food was being put out often. Really nice restaurant. Downside was that the room was quite dusty however did look overall clean in terms of bedding, towels and tables. We also found that the service wasn’t great at times. When we first arrived we were treated by a woman on reception who was a bit rude and snappy. We heard her give this attitude to another couple who were staying here so I think that needs improvement. Overall a really nice stay and I would recommend this hotel to anybody staying in Whitby. Great location from the centre!

Stayed 2 weeks ago in a superior room which had superb views over to the Abbey. In the midst of a huge refurbishment. Bar was good but could do with some lower chairs to sit on. The lift was very busy most of the time. Lovely breakfast in the morning. Ate in town at nights so can't comment. Our room carpet had seen better days but hopefully will be renewed when it's refurbished. Would recommend and will visit again.
Mary A — Google review
Location was great and lovely views of the Abbey. Our room was very basic and outdated. Was there for 3 nights and originally paid 90 pound per night but then we paid an extra 80 pound to upgrade to a room with a sea view so 350 in total. Sea view wasn't what expected as we had a room on the ground floor so when looked out of the window our view was of the cars and vans parked outside and people walking by, but couldn't complain as we could still see the sea beyond that. Definitely not worth paying 80 pounds for though.
Teresa W — Google review
The hotel was in the middle of a renovation. Our room had been done and was very comfortable and clean although views were over the car park at the rear of the hotel. It didn't spoil our stay and the hotel is very close the the beach and shops with good views to the front. Lots of steps down although there is a lift down to the beach
Nick B — Google review
The hotel needs some attention, the room its self was very big and lovely but the ceiling looked like it could have come through from a leak. The view though was immense I would pay the money just for that. It was cold and wet so we sat there watching for a bit until went for dinner. Would definitely stay again, even though it needs work doing it’s still a lovely hotel. Maybe the rooms could be cleaned a little bit better too, there was hair around the sink and in the bath from previous and sugar been spilt and not cleaned either.

Massive thank you for hosting the thank you meal for the farmer who volunteered at the fires. You went above and beyond to accommodate us last min, the staff were so friendly, went to that extra effort to make it run very smoothly, you all genuinely cared that they all had a great night. Lots of comments as well on the standard of food, it was excellent and so much more than I was expecting! Huge huge thank you!!! X

The George Hotel is a cozy accommodation option that includes breakfast and Wi-Fi, as well as a pub featuring live music and a Sunday carvery. Located in the charming seaside town of Whitby, it provides an ideal home base for exploring the area. Situated in the heart of town, guests can easily access attractions such as the marina, beaches, museums, shops, and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway on foot.
We visited here for a takeaway carvery as we had been messed about from another local pub. This was the best decision we made, from the bar staff to the chef it was so much better. We ordered 2 standard carvery and a child's for our 18 month old and the quality and selection on offer was really good. The chef even came out to me and my daughter as we had a dog to tell me the husband had gone the other way out 🙈 which i thought was lovely as he didn't have to do that. We took the food back to our apartment and it was delicious. We will be back before we go home and this will be our go to for sunday dinner every visit to whitby we can highly recommend it.
Michelle C — Google review
Not a pleasant experience. Generally grubby and needs some maintenance. Very noisy with music from the bar. Breakfast was really basic and uninviting. Dirty kitchen and dining area. Would not go back.
Elizabeth S — Google review
Just had a £15 Sunday Carvery. I'll start with the positives. The meat, yorkshires and gravy were lovely. However, the veggies were raw, and you needed a steak knife to cut through them as well as a good set of teeth. The roasties tasted old, like they'd been reheated from another day. For that price I expected a whole lot better.
John M — Google review
Myself and my hubbie called into the carvery for Sunday lunch I have to say what a disappointing experience the food was cold they only had 2 meats to select from and the beef was a little tough to say the least my husband ordered a vegetarian carvery you pay the same price as the meat one which I think is wrong on every level as you don’t get a choice of any veggie option to replace the meat, he asked for an extra Yorkshire pudding instead but was refused on the grounds they wouldn’t have enough. We asked for vegetarian gravy which if you advertise a vegetarian option you would think they would have but no we waited over half an hour and several requests before they brought it to the table by this time the meal was stone cold. We will definitely not recommend and we will not return

Just come back from a few days away for your wedding anniversary and stayed here for the 2nd time now but with our son this time. Friendly owners & Staff very accommodating very clean and great location. As we were in a family room we faced the back of the property but if you have a sea facing room you have a great view out over the west cliff (had this last time we stayed) Nice options for hot breakfast you order the day before. You also have a range of cereal and fruit you help yourself to on a morning. Would highly recommend staying here when coming to Whitby. Thanks Graeme

This is the second time my dad and me have stayed here over the last 12 months. I gave them top marks last year, and I will give them top marks this year, we both had great sea view rooms, the staff were very pleasant and professional, as are the owners. There's a great variety for breakfast including full English and cereal, fruit and toast, hot and cold drinks are also available. Parking is just around the corner and not really too expensive. I can't say enough about this place, and would probably say that I enjoyed it more this time as we had slightly better weather, through coming earlier than last year. Thanks for a great holiday experience

I cannot express enough how lovely the Riviera Guesthouse is. We rented the room facing the sea and spent a great deal of time sitting in the chairs having tea and enjoying the view. It’s an easy walk almost everywhere in Whitby and a quick walk to the train and bus station. Zed and Emma were real, not fussy. And the breakfasts? Worth traveling across the globe for. This was an experience of a lifetime.

Great welcome on arrival and lovely room with brilliant views out to sea. Watching Dolphins at 06.00 was an unexpected bonus. Emma's husband cooks a brilliant full English and there's plenty to go at, also drinks toast cereals etc. We'll definitely book again next time we're in Whitby. Thanks Andy n Dawn

Visited as a couple to take part in 2 running events. Location was very good for our needs. Our room was ready as soon as we checked in at 2pm. The room was very clean with a fresh clean smell. Extra tea and coffee bags were provided by the helpful and cheerful staff. The cleaning staff even found my mobile phone as I was checking out and returned it to me. Room was nice. Had Netflix which was fantastic for the kids. Beds were comfortable. Staff were very polite. Small play area for kids to play. I would book again. Only issue room only had less than half roll of toilet paper when we arrived for 4 of us. Had to go and find one. Reception only had toilet paper from the bar toilets available. Other than that well worth a stay. Good choice of beers wines etc. Didn't try the food so can't comment on it

Stayed here twice, the staff are really friendly and helpful. The room was clean, and the beds were extremely comfortable. The price for a night was reasonable. I stayed on a busy Saturday night and a weekday. The food, although expensive, was amazing. The chips steak and burgers were great. Also, the breakfasts were better than expected. the only downside was the coffee. I hope to stay again soon.

Only dined here. The pub wasn't exceptionally busy at the time yet we were told it would be an hour for food. The menu was fairly standard for a pub but unfortunately the quality didn't really justify the price or the wait. Serving staff were good though.

Room spacious and clean. Food good pub food . Breakfast on the second day was poor, paid for a continental but there was only toast and cereal left . There were no plates so had to have toast on a napkin. No tall tea cups left but when I ask for one I was told bluntly that she didn’t have time to wash one . Very under staffed . Very disappointed.

Food we had was ok but small, ordering fish gounons I expected more than 3 strips that were smaller than a fish finger. However they were nice and the chips were lovely. Staff friendly and pleasant. Ketchup left on tables which clearly says to be kept refrigerated.

We didn't know what to expect although we have stopped with Marstons Inns before. From the moment I walked into the bar I felt really comfortable, the young man behind the bar was brilliant his welcome impressed us both and we both work in the customer service industry, I wished I'd got his name but this was Monday the 14th of July. The room was nice but in need of a face lift don't get me wrong very clean and comfortable but the bathroom is a little tired with the toilet being next to the sink made it a little difficult for me and the step over into the shower a bit of task, please don't think I'm moaning because everything else was great. All the Staff are a credit to the company and give fantastic customer service. We will be back well done.🙂

Highly recommend. The room we stayed in was almost like a 5 star hotel room that only missed a fridge/minibar. But they had a kind of an executive lounge or honesty bar downstairs where you helped yourself and signed for whatever you used. The staff were super friendly. If I do ever come back to Whitby I will only stay here. (Gotta be honest that Whitby felt like a Whetherspoons on a Friday night and not really super attractive) Oh the reason we chose the hotel was that they have their own private carpark.

Beautiful B&B, hosts Craig and Mat, were brilliant, very helpful, a mindful of information for places to visit and eat. The rooms were gorgeous as was the breakfast. Great location, which gave allocated parking at the B&B, the difference in cost was so worth not getting stressed trying to find parking. It's located straight across from a lovely park, which we enjoyed taking a stroll in each morning before breakfast. The town centre is just a few minutes walk away. We will definitely be visiting again.
Lisa B — Google review
From being met by Craig on arrival to our departure the experience was fantastic. We had an allotted parking space on the front in an area that could accommodate three cars. Tastefully decorated throughout and maintained to such a high standard that we never saw any dust, stains or damage. Breakfast has many choices that it was hard to know what to have, better to go down and see what others are eating. All produce fresh and of good quality. Situated a short walk into town everything is on your doorstep. Would highly recommend and next time we stay it will be our first choice.

Absolutely fabulous B&B. We have been here a few times. Lovely rooms and excellent breakfast. Nothing too much trouble for hosts Craig and Matthew. Cannot recommend enough.

This was an absolute great find in Whitby a 10 minute walk to the town centre, great location. The hosts Matt and Craig were so so welcoming with hot drinks and fruit cake on arrival. The room was fabulous with a huge bathroom and quality toiletries provided and housekeeping was done beautifully, with an added bonus of a different sweet treat left in our room daily. Breakfast was outstanding, fantastic food, plenty of it and great hosting. Matt and Craig had excellent knowledge of eating places and pubs in Whitby which was an added bonus for us as we had never visited here before. Would certainly stay here again, just perfection, thanks so much guys. Clare and Andy Edge xx

LilyRose Hotel Whitby offers a comfortable and pleasant stay with clean rooms and friendly staff. The hotel provides spacious rooms equipped with all the necessary facilities such as tea and coffee making, hair dryer, ironing board, and iron. The self-service aspect adds to the convenience of the stay. The location is great, close to the seafront, whale bones, and the spa pavilion.
Location brilliant, parking was good, plenty of parking in W zone, even if you got to walk one street away.. I did get lucky and with a small wait a space came available right outside which I preferred as I had my 5 year old with me but otherwise I wouldn't have minded walking. Parking was £3 when booking on the website with the room booking for 2 days! Bargain as its £2.60 an hour at the pay and displays dotted around. I can't comment on any breakfast items to pay for on arrival as on both days there was only cereal bars at hand, it would have been handy if milk could be left to be able to top up ourselves. Room was spacious and a good size and comfortable, the only thing that would have made it a 5 was that there wasn't anywhere comfortable to sit and chill only the bed, the table and chairs are designed for garden or outside use, not for a bedroom.. Get a sofa!! A mini fridge would be a extra benefit so fresh milk can be stored, for breakfast etc. Another thing which isn't the owners fault but I was woken up early (5/6am with someone playing music.. The music didn't bother me.. However it was the guest that shouted to turn the music down that actually woke me.. Nothing to do with the owners, just some disrespectful people.. There are signs around to remind people to be quiet. With a couple of tweaks this place would be amazing.. But I would definitely stay again. I liked the self check in option, no keys to worry about. Just codes to remember to enter the main front door and the bedroom door. Both doors automatically lock for safety reasons.

Me and my partner stayed here for one night, could not complain at all for the price, bed was very comfortable and the hotel is in an ideal location, the manager was very friendly and made check in very easy, she answered all my questions with no issues: however upon arrival the key box was already open, the towels had a few stains on but that can be expected. The other guests were quite loud on the night and early morning however could not fault the service and the room; we would return:) Thank you to all the staff for having us

I want to really like this place but there are a few things that let it down. On the plus side, the location is great. You're very close to most things you'd want to do in Whitby. The room was very spacious, clean and well presented. Parking is a nightmare. No dedicated parking for the hotel. You pay for a street parking permit but the area is so busy, you can't find any. The wooden floor through the property looks very nice but allows the noise to travel. We were staying with our young daughter. We were all awoken by two loud men stomping up the stairs and talking at the top of their voices. This was a shame. The place could be really good but I won't be staying here again.
Michael T — Google review
We arrived around 3.30pm the code we had been given ( we thought was for the key box outside) we phoned the number that was given to us. Straight away a lovely lady answered and explained the code was for our room door. Our room was lovely couldn't fault it nice, clean and warm there was fresh towels, tea and coffee making facilities hairdryer, a rail to hang clothes on. The continental was on the ground floor we took what we wanted for breakfast the night before, the bed was lovely and comfortable the only thing was the pillows were to soft but that's my personal preference. We had a great sleep it was not noisy at all, the location is great we will definitely go back and will also recommend to family and friends.
Alison M — Google review
Can't complain to much for the price we paid for the room. Room was ok, bed not very comfortable, shower was nice and hot but the mugs at the coffee station were not clean. The location is great only minute walk from sea front
Phil T — Google review
Brilliant location, and amazing value for £55 a night in room 12 (booked direct on hotel website) Paid £4 for a parking scratch card (in lobby when we arrived) just leave money in cash box, enabled us to park right outside- it costs £4 not £3 as it states on website! Only things that were a tiny bit annoying were the bed which was extremely squeaky, one little move and it made a noise 🤣 but it was still comfortable! And when upstairs used their shower, ours came on a little and it was also quite noisey. Mirror in bathroom too high up on the wall for us short people 🤣 But a really good place for exploring Whitby ☺️

Had a lovely dinner at Penny Hedge, we walked in without a reservation and were seated straight away. We stayed and ate here and can highly recommend it. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The food really good quality, well presented and good portion sizes and the service very friendly. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. We'd certainly return and recommend to friends and family.

The usual Marston’s layout and decor was obvious from our initial entrance, this was a very hot July day and the pub was uncomfortably warm inside. Obviously, Britain lacks Air-conditioning in many old buildings and pubs, but in a contemporary structure such as this, it would not be amiss and would have been most welcoming, especially as the rooms they offer do apparently have AC! The beer was fine; the staff we spoke to were lovely and one of them even chatted with us as he ate his rushed even meal on an adjoining table. We had booked to spend the night in their car park in our camper van. and that was no problem and a relatively quiet, but warm night was had. My main issue was the food. We often eat in Marston's pubs and generally get some good grub, however, although my wife enjoyed her Hunters Chicken, my Sea Bass, left much to be desired. The two wafer thin pieces of Sea bass, were chewy, far too thin, small and overcooked. The cubed roasted potatoes were incredibly hard to chew, simply because they were so well roasted. They made my mouth sore with their sharp edges and rough texture. The accompanying White wine sauce comprised of a splash of sauce in the bottom of the bowl and would have been missed if I didn’t look for it. Only the veg and the five prawns were easy and tasty to eat. A nice dish that could have so much better with a side float of sauce, better portions, of sea Bass for the £20 charge, and edible potatoes. We will continue to be patrons of Marston’s pubs, but I’m not sure we would return to this one for food. Sorry .

We felt very well looked after as soon as we arrived here. We were greeted and checked in by Olivia who was great and couldn’t have been more helpful. There was a mix up with our booking and she sorted this out with ease in a very respectful manner. The room was very comfortable, the food here was excellent and we found all the staff we met pleasant and helpful.

Absolutely beautiful food now under new management. I had the steak and Malbec pie and double chocolate brownie, asked for some additional cream which was no problem from Carolyn. House wine tasty too. We were close to canceling after past reviews and experience but so glad we didn’t. Top class food and service, thank you ☺️ xx

Booked a last minute break for 2. Rooms are very good with great views.Bit tricky going up to 2nd floor but more than suitable. 15% off drinks and breakfast included in the price (including Traditional). Staff were great. Very welcoming. Location is perfect for the Quay. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed at the Pier Inn a few years ago and really liked it so we booked again for a little two night getaway. The breakfast was ok,the breakfast team were lovely, the evening bar staff were a little grumpy and the duty manager throughout our stay did his utmost to please and we commend him for that and his customer service. But,oh dear, the Pier Inn could really benefit from a room refurbishment and a deep clean.

We didn't stay over. We went for a meal celebrating my partners birthday. Babs had one of the chicken dishes and I had sea bass (which was the best I've ever eaten). The service was great, the food amazing and the beer was tasty, I also had a sweet which was delicious too. Although I didn't have the one I wanted as it was sold out. Nevertheless I would recommend this place to anyone, and I'm sure we'll be back the next time we holiday in Whitby.

We came on our first Saturday evening in Whitby. This pub was to be our local for a week. The pub is in a stunning location with amazing views, but that's the only positive thing to say about this place. The food was very mediocre and forgettable. The service was terrible. The staff really were not interested and appeared to not want to be there. We asked for some glasses for the wine. Three times. After 15 minutes we gave up and had to get them ourselves from the bar. And heaven forbid if you want some serviettes. After asking several times, we eventually had to go into the pub to get some - the waitress rolled her eyes and reluctantly got some out from a cupboard. If you visit, stay for just one drink and admire the views. But I wouldn't recommend ordering anything that may need some customer service.

Just stopped in for snacks and cocktails, but everything was excellent! Drinks were pretty and tasty, and they have vegan pastries too! All while admiring beautiful art from wall to wall. EDIT: We ended up going back to this place for breakfast, twice! Food was utterly superb. Especially great if you need a dairy free meal.

Came to this cafe for breakfast two weeks ago, would never come back again! Coffee was good, food was okay, but the service is awful. When we ordered, we were told that it will be a 10-20 minute wait for the food, which is already quite long for an avocado spread on a toast during a non rush period. It took 45 minutes of waiting and 1 complaint to actually get our food.
Viktoriia G — Google review
Me and some family went to Whitby on a day trip from Filey. Firstly the park and ride was super; nice and easy, frequent and lovely drivers. We decided to go for lunch and we needed somewhere dog friendly that had a nice variety on the menu. The black jewel was the first one to pop up and I am so glad that it was. The scrambled egg on toast was unreal! Fluffy, flavourful and a perfect portion size with a delicate side salad. (It was baby leaf lettuce and a light dressing with whole mustard as a component) I would have been more than happy to eat this 10 times over. My partner had the small pancakes with banana and Nutella they were larger than he anticipated however it was ideal as everyone of us at the table including my two dogs were wanting a taste! The coffee and beverage list was varied but not overwhelming they even serve a cafe bon bon, which is difficult to find anywhere so we were pleasantly surprised. As for your fury friends. They are also well looked after with a teat delivery to your table. Thankyou you all the lovely staff, and if you do visit have a read of their small book on the table which is available for a charity donation purchase at the till. ❤️

A real jewel in the beautiful town of Whitby with excellent views of Whitby abbey. The room was very quirky and refreshing with a touch of luxury. The stand out quality was the cleanliness! There was not a spec of dust in the place, even in hard to see places. We also ate at the cafe and loved the anmount of delicious and unusual options for vegetarians and carnivores alike.

We had a fantastic stay at the Jet Black Jewel Hotel. The room was spacious, spotless, and perfect for our couple of nights in Whitby. I loved the unique themed décor, which made the place feel really special. The café downstairs was a great bonus too — ideal for breakfast in the morning or a cocktail later in the day. The only small downside was the early checkout and the fact that there wasn’t anywhere to store bags if you wanted to explore a little more before heading home. But overall, it’s a lovely place to stay and I’d definitely recommend it!
Mj D — Google review
Wife and I had a lovely 2 night stay here in the Scoresby room. Based in the town centre, it’s a great base to explore the town and surrounding area. The rooms are large, clean and modern with quirky decor that isn’t too OTT. We loved the staff-less check in and out, made it really simple to come and go as we pleased. The parking pass made it easy to park on street nearby, we were never more than 100m from the hotel. Will 100% be staying again the next time we’re in the area.

YHA Whitby is a budget-friendly and family-friendly hostel located in a stately mansion with dorms and private rooms. It offers stunning views of the abbey ruins and the bustling town of Whitby. The location provides easy access to various attractions, including a museum and art gallery. Situated in an awesome coastal location, it appeals to walkers and cyclists due to its proximity to Esk Valley and North Yorkshire Moors. Booking in advance is recommended for better prices and options.
Fabulous hostel in a fabulous location. YHA beds are not the comfiest but that is for practicality and cleaning. Otherwise a lovely place to stay with spectacular views over the town and out to sea from the cafe garden. I felt welcome, and safe whilst travelling on my own.
Dena T — Google review
I came as visiting the Abbey like most people. The cafe offers amazing views if sat outside. It is well worth a visit but coffee is out of a machine and service is okay. The menu is basic and well priced. If you want basic food and somewhere to stay close to Whitby they I would recommend
Joe U — Google review
Good value but basic. £150 for a simple ensuite room. No room furniture apart from the bunk beds. I wish the so-called hot water was actually hot. I would say it is about 35°.Centigrade. I think to avoid legionella disease it needs to be at least 65°C? So be careful not to drink any of the tepid water. Bring your own towel (there’s no towel rai) and photo ID, a copy on your phone will do.
Chris B — Google review
The cafe, food & staff were really good & competitively priced & I would recommend. The accommodation however was overpriced & poor. Shabby, very basic & horrible sweaty rubber mattresses. Also very noisy through the night. Poor sleep. I hoped to show my grandsons the opportunities afforded by YHA. They were not impressed & we won't be back for more Whitby. You'll have to do better for £200 a night!

The rooms were excellent sizes and very convenient although there was a major issue with the radiator as it started to leak oil all over the floor, the beds nearly broke and we got told to run across the hall way to have a shower.the food for breakfast was extremely good however the tea wasn’t as great. We faced a white plain wall sat on a bench, sort of like a prison the food wasn’t the greatest but it could have been worse.altogether I would say it’s very pricey for what your given no I wouldn’t go again, maybe it was a one of But I would not recommend

This is up there as one of the best youth hostels that the YHA has. Although when I stayed work was being done and the building was a bit quiet this building is incredible, if you are a fan of Dracula and the mythos this is a perfect pace to stay! Right by the Abbey and near the church, graves and the steps down to Whitby central this location provides the windswept spooky factor with STUNNING views. I will stay here again because this is a gem in YHA portfolio of locations.

Sneaton Castle, located just outside Whitby town center, is a historic venue popular for weddings and holidays. With a short but carefully curated bistro menu that changes with the seasons, it offers an elegant yet unpretentious setting for celebratory meals or holiday treats. The hotel has received excellent ratings for its location, cleanliness, and overall experience.
My family and I went to Sneaton Castle for a Sunday lunch. Wow, it was great! Probably the best one I’ve ever had to be honest. The portion size was good and the quality was excellent. Value for money was also surprisingly good and the environment was genuinely chilled and comfortable. Highly recommended for families or romantic couples both.

Stayed in Castle Room 10. A very special room! The artwork on the arch is beautiful. The room is a lot bigger than it looks online and is comfortable and quiet. It overlooks the gardens and the Priory. Breakfast was delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly. We had the bacon roll one morning (it was huge!) and then full English the next (also plenty of food and great quality). You get offered fruit and yogurt when you sit down and coffee or tea is served also. Fantastic location, easy walk into Whitby and the Yorkshire Moors are a stones throw away. Safe to leave car at the castle, plenty of parking. I think some things could be added to the rooms to make the stay a bit more comfortable - bathroom slippers, mini fridge and room service would have been nice. But overall an amazing stay and would absolutely come back again!

Popped over from the campsite nearby for our Sunday dinner. It is dog friendly in the bar area which was great news for us. Excellent drink choices, lovely set up and a very good menu. We chose from the Sunday menu, beef and pork. Delicious. Everything was cooked to a very high standard. Best cooked parsnip I’ve had. The meat was perfect and the seasonal vegetable selection was excellent. We had no room for dessert when we were finished and left very satisfied customers.

Wonderful stay from start to finish! The staff couldn't have been any more friendly and welcoming, especially Lise. Nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in the Gatekeepers part of the castle and it was perfect. So clean and with tons of outside safe and secure areas for our dogs. The food was second to none and the value superb. Highly recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you to all.

Had a great two night stay here in Castle Suite 10. The room was huge and the castle itself is beautiful, full of charm and character. The location is very convenient, making it easy to explore the surrounding areas - an easy walk into Whitby. The breakfast was great - a large variety of cooked foods and fresh fruit and yogurt offered also. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. A few small improvements could make the stay even better: a mini fridge in the room, slippers for after the shower, and the option of room service would have been great. We enjoyed our time here and would happily come back again!

This is site so lovely , lovely friendly staff who can't do enough for you. Lovely facilities toilets and showers. Not to mention the lovely cats on site which my son said was an added bonus. Look forward to returning ( we haven't even left yet )

I only intended to stay one night but ended up extending to two because, as many others have said, I received such a warm welcome from Gina in the office and Derek. I had a pitch with an uninterrupted view of the sea and particularly enjoyed the lovely hot shower with no timers or push buttons! There are five separate shower rooms which is more private and convenient. I also enjoyed a walk down to the long, wide beach less than a mile away and of course the proximity to lovely Whitby! Thank you.

Lovely campsite, great location with stunning views and a nice walk into the centre of Whitby. Good shower and toilet blocks and even has an on-site pizzeria! We will definitely be back.

Owners & staff are great.Fab static caravans. Easy walking to Sandsend & Whitby. Lovely meals over the road at the golf course which is open to the public. Our favourite place to chill out at.

Nice campsite, good value, showers are good quality, nice view of the sea. Didn't find a washing-up station so maybe it's more set up for motorhomes and caravans. Quite a lot of dumped stuff around the site, would benefit from a clean-up. Perfect place to stay to visit Whitby (easy bus ride) and North York Moors.

A friend and I were in the area on our motorbikes and passed by this campsite to see if they could accommodate us. Site were so friendly and couldn't help us enough to accommodate. Would recommend and will absolutely return again.

Just loved it here. Beautiful rooms , very clean and airy. The breakfast was spot on .Will definitely stay here again. Lovely owners . Thankyou 😁

Had the most amazing experience here. We were checked in by the owners son, who at a young age was very professional and warming. (also quite a funny lad). We were on the top floor, which does get quite warm, but the fan provided was perfect to cool down. The room itself was clean and presentable, with enough room for the dogs bed, which still left us with enough floor space. The breakfast was served by the daughter of the owners, who again was fairly young but highly professional and catered to our every need. The food was delicious and on point every day, we were asked at the end of service if we wanted to change our order from quite varied menu. The cleaning team was fabulous! Nothing was too much for them. Will definitely be coming back here when I get the chance. The whole management, cleaning team, and cook were outstanding and hospitable.

Our stay at the Full English Bed and Breakfast was simply superb. The owners were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always taking the time to have a chat and giving us ideas and recommendations on how to make the most of our stay in Whitby. The room was pretty and spotlessly clean, and the breakfast was really delicious, with plenty of options to chose from and everything cooked to perfection. It is a real joy to be able to stay in a bed and breakfast that still has owners welcoming you and chatting to you and that does lovely breakfasts in the morning! Thank you very much for a great experience! :)

The accommodation is spotless, bright and cheerful and the bed was comfortable. With a name like ‘The Full English’,there’s a lot to live up to, and the breakfast was indeed superb. Hillcrest Whitby is a Victorian guest house in Whitby with free breakfast and parking. It features garden views and is set in the town centre. Everything was perfect, especially the breakfast.
A really lovely bed and breakfast, we only had a single nights stay as we were on a road trip but it was easy and a delight. Easy to find, the host Laura was lovely, well located and a super breakfast to get us going on the next leg of our trip.

We had a great time staying at Hillcrest (one adult, 2 children). Laura & Greig were lovely & really accommodating. The room was really spacious and the breakfast was delicious. The location is ideal walking distance to everything and also close to a great park which the kids loved. We'd definitely stay again in the future.

My partner and I stayed at Hillcrest for Whitby Goth Weekend and were very happy to stay here, the owners are lovely and very accomodating, the room itself was immaculate and it shows that they care. Will we be staying here again? Definetly, providing we can get a room for October! (P.s., the overnight oats was amazing!)

Just returned from a 3 night stay at this lovely b+b, room was lovely and clean with a lovely bathroom which had bath and shower, breakfast was lovely with a good choice which was delivered to your room.the added bonus of parking was brill. Greig and Laura are lovely hosts and couldnt do enough for you, would highly reccomend this little gem to anyone visiting Whitby
Christine L — Google review
I highly recommend this B&B to anyone planning a visit to Whitby. The hosts were incredibly welcoming, yet gave us plenty of privacy to enjoy our stay. We booked the four-poster room, and it exceeded our expectations—it was immaculate, with the most comfortable bed and an excellent shower. A small table and two chairs were thoughtfully placed by the window, making it the perfect spot to enjoy breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, it was pre-ordered upon arrival and delivered to our room in a charming basket. The selection was fantastic, featuring fresh fruit, juices, cereals, bread, pastries, and a choice of hot sandwiches—bacon, sausage, egg, or salmon. There was ample parking for all guests, and the trail to Robin Hood’s Bay was just a five-minute walk away. Overall, it was a delightful stay in a prime location with great hosts. We’ll definitely return on our next visit to Whitby.
Sharon G — Google review
Greig and Laura very hospitable. They work very hard to provide an excellent experience. Property well maintained. Good parking. Can walk to town. Amazing breakfast choices, delivered to your door. Worth a stay.
Neil B — Google review
Huge deluxe super clean room, with all the amenities you can imagine, including a Lavazza capsule coffe maker. The bathroom is very big and the we loved the shower. The bed is really comfortable. Greig the owner is "the man", he knows everything there is to know about Whitby, where to eat what's best to see in town and in the area, also knows local folklore and history which for me was a huge plus. The B&B is located on top of a hill but it has enough parking spaces for all the guests. Is 5-10 min. (Depending on your pace) to the town centre (harbour). Honest we fell in love with the town and the B&B was a good part of it. Thanks for everything
Riccardo R — Google review
Located a 10 minute walk from Whitby harbour and town centre, this is perfect for short breaks. We stayed in the Ruswarp suite, which is more spacious than a standard room. The room was clean and of a very good standard. TV, Tea/ Coffee and a Hairdryer are provided. The room had an en-suite bathroom with shower. Breakfast is a little unorthodox in that you pre-order it and it is brought to your room, a table is provided in the room for dining. There is no problem bringing take a ways back to the room. The owners Grieg and Laura where brilliant, they couldn't do enough for us. Whitby is very hilly and the Town/Harbour is a downhill walk from the Hillcrest, If you don`t fancy the walk back up the hill you could either get a Taxi which are reasonably priced or catch the bus. The Hillcrest is on the Scarborough to Whitby bus route and the bus stop is just a few doors down from the hotel, if you fancy a trip to Scarborough.

This was our 3rd trip to Whitby, but our first at this guesthouse and what an absolutely amazing find, and so close to all the amenities Whitby has to offer. From the moment we arrived, Richard and Joanne were the perfect hosts, so friendly and welcoming. The rooms are beautifully decorated, we had the fortune to have 1 that overlooked the Abby, the beds are comfortable, and had tea / coffee & hot chocolate making facilities. The breakfast is fantastic, a great choice and excellent quality. There is nothing to fault about this place, you are made to feel like family from the moment you arrive, and we will certainly be staying here on our next visit. Where to start ! When we arrived we were very impressed with the location and the beautiful building. Richard and Joanne were spectacular hosts very hospitable and of a happy, warming and friendly nature. Room was spotless and the bed was huge and comfy (we opted for the king size bed). Amazing tea and coffee in the rooms were available and the breakfast was absolutely delicious! Breakfast was all local produce and you could tell. Couldn’t fault the place and will not be staying anywhere else when breaking away in Whitby. Perfect location very quiet yet a couple of minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the town. The views really are as good as the pictures show. We had an absolutely lovely experience and number 7 really did make our trip to Whitby one that we will never forget and will be recreating again in the years to come. Thank you Joanne and Richard we were very impressed! Also the guest staying were some of the loveliest people and made breakfast more of a delight. My advice is BOOK BOOK BOOK you will love it !

Richard and Joanne were friendly and chatty during breakfast (delicious, by the way - and were able to make my request off-menu, scrambled eggs) Our room, number 3, was spacious enough and had what we needed. Room was clean and tidy and well priced for our time there. Well priced, well looked after, well clean. Would recommend!

You can tell how much hard work and effort the owners put into their accommodation. They are always on hand and had great communication. The location is fantastic and we loved the pride flags on the front of the building. There is no parking but we did not struggle to find a space 1-2 min walk down the road.
Jack E — Google review
Great place, friendly welcome and very comfy beds. We spent a last minute 30th Anniversary get-away in Whitby (UK), and this was the perfect place. The room was light and airy, the decor tastefully modern with a hint of vintage. Plenty of room to store clothes in the drawers and big wardrobe, the room was also equipped with an iron, ironing board and a fan, as well as tea/coffee making facilities, small fridge and hair drier. That shower was incredible. We were very comfortable and loved our stay. They don't do breakfasts, but seriously, guys, it's not a hardship to take a short walk to an excellent cafe that serves a good-value-for-money (£8) full English. Whitby is a seaside town with a variety of activities; Pannett Park museum, Captain Cook's house museum, trips out on boats, amusement arcades, lots of lovely eclectic little shops plus the Church and Abbey on the hill (at the top of 199 steps). There are beaches, events at The Pavilion, loads of eateries and decent pubs. What's not to like? Fish and chips never tasted better.

Location is perfect. Literally a 4 minute stroll to the centre. The room was lovely and clean and plenty big enough. With lots of choice of tea coffee etc. Small fridge is an excellent idea. We will definitely return

This is a lovely guest house. We had a lovely big front room with a super king size bed, gorgeous modern/Victorian bathroom, big sofa, TV, Google nest mini as well. Very comfortable. Downside It's on a busy main road, (although we couldn't hear the traffic at night) it's on a hill and there is no parking nearby. We parked in the harbour carpark, a 10 minute walk away. (£11.50 for 24 hours)

A perfect guesthouse, centrally located, a short walk into the town centre. The location of Broomfield House is excellent. It is a very short walk into the town centre (just a couple of minutes). The guesthouse is opposite Pannett Park, and our family room offers views of the park. The hosts were very friendly, and the check-in process was seamless. The room had a small mini fridge, stocked with milk and tea/coffee making facilities. We will be visiting again.

Had a great stay at Broomfield House. Nothing was too much trouble for Steve and Jo. The room was very clean and lovely and warm. We were on the top floor which didn’t bother us, but if you have any mobility issues bare in mind there’s a lot of stairs so make sure you ask for a lower room. We will be visiting Whitby again in the coming months and will definitely stay here again.

Stay here in June 2021 my first impression of the room was how clean it looked and smelt the room had a mixture of furniture styles that worked really well. The shower room was very clean and a lovely size. The location was great a 7/10 minute walk into town. The breakfast basket was wonderful and the small fridge in the room was a nice addition. I should have wrote this review months ago but for personal reasons I'm afraid it was delayed. I would definitely stay there again.

Very nice place, easy remote check-in, good off-road parking, 10 minute walk to town centre and seafront. Great room and modern bathroom. Continental breakfast delivered to room and left by door a really nice touch. Plenty of tea/coffee in room which was very cosy, with sofa and table to eat at.

Having pre-paid £198 for a 2 night stay at Eldon House on a room only basis, my wife and I decided on arrival and after seeing our "de luxe"room (no 9) to stay elsewhere. The house had the look and feel of a hostel. We retrieved our room key from a key box in the lobby as there was no one to welcome us. Our "de luxe" room was under the eaves on the top floor. The room was drab and dreary, with a mish mash of 70's style furniture and sadly lacking any degree of comfort. There were no toiletries in the bathroom, save one tiny bar of handsoap. There was black mould on the shower sealant. The bedding was poly cotton. The favourable reviews for this B&B are between 3 and 6 years old (apart from one very recent one), something we had not fully appreciated when we made the booking. We messaged the person who appears to be the owner? manager? with our concerns but to this minute have received no reply. This just about sums up our hugely disappointing experience.

Elford House is a treasure. We booked two nights and ended up staying a third The proprietors Jed and Linda are friendly and welcoming. The internal features are beautiful, the room was light clean and airy and we had an amazing view of Whitby Abbey. The picnic basket breakfast was a treat warm bread rolls, boiled eggs, cereals, juice, fresh fruit and yogurts and much more. We'll definitely be back for another visit.

Comfortable, clean & warm room. Easy self check in which I preferred! & the breakfast basket was left outside of your room from 8am for you to eat in the room! With a wide variety which included a selection of cereal, milk, baguette, fruit, juices & yogurts, it was great. Convient location, it takes about 10 minutes to walk down the bank, a taxi back up will cost £4.20, a must after a full day of walking around whitby.

The breakfast wow the best I've had in any B&B... EXCELLENT!! Thanks to Karen & Gary..... We look forward to our next trip to North Yorkshire and a stop at Leeway. John & Dawn xx

High Tor Guest House is a unique 4-star Victorian townhouse located in the heart of Whitby, North Yorkshire. The guest house offers comfortable rooms with thoughtful touches such as fruit cake, sweets, and a variety of teas and coffee. The property features free WiFi throughout and is just a 5-minute walk from Whitby Harbour, shops, and bars. Guests appreciate the attention to detail in the rooms, including guitar-shaped spoons and a collection of Babycham glasses on display.
A wonderful guest house, decorated in a very tasteful and interesting style. A very warm welcome, immaculately clean, comfortable rooms. We loved the welcome pack of biscuits and sweets, and the quality hot drinks in the room. There was a good choice for breakfast and we can definitely recommend the tasty and well cooked full English!

We had a brilliant 2 day stay here. A present from the kids. John and Lisa were the perfect hosts, nothing was a problem. It's advertised as a guest house but it compares to a 5 star hotel with all the little extras supplied. The breakfast was cooked fresh and plentiful The room was very clean and comfortable, with a great selection of drinks and snacks. Top quality products in the bathrooms. They have gone to town with the decor. The film theme throughout the property is a great idea. It's the best guest house we have stayed in and would highly recommend to anyone. Whitby is a lovely place to visit with plenty of places to eat and drink. Thanks again for a great 2 night stay.

Wonderful guest house on the west cliff in Whitby hosted by John and Lisa. Cool decor, comfortable room, well stocked with choccies and biscuits a bonus. Multiple options for breakfast- all that we tried were tasty and accompanied by fresh coffee or a choice of teas. Best B&B we have stayed in.

The very high review ratings we read prior to our two day stay were totally accurate! High Tor is a gem, great service, attention to detail in every way and the most perfect breakfast. We wouldn’t hesitate to book with them again.

We’ve been to High Tor for many years now and can honestly say that it’s absolutely the best. John and Lisa are amazing hosts! We always book for the year after before we leave on the last day of our stay. We love it and so do our friends who also stay at High Tor. 😁😁😁❤️❤️❤️

Just ended a week in this lovely cottage , with a wonderful view of Whitby Harbour and beautiful sunsets ! We had a really hot week and sat outside every evening . I love the walk up and down Henrietta St especially earlier mornings and later evenings when the crowds have gone !!! The cottage is very comfortable and has all you need for a very comfortable holiday . We will be back with a pair of binoculars !!

Stayed here several times over the years. Brilliant location with great views and a vantage point to watch the world go by. Comfortable rooms and everything needed to chill and relax. Fortune's kippers are nearby for breakfast supplies and we always take some home. A short walk and 199 steps to the church and abbey.
Bob M — Google review
Very nice little cottage, but needs a few updates. Very dark, needs lights over the cooker and prep area as all lights are behind you. Bed deter not very comfortable when sitting, 2 wicker chairs start getting uncomfortable after about an hour of sitting, bathroom contains a bath and a shower with curtain, maybe take bath out and a full shower unit fitted.
Ken W — Google review
We stayed at 33a. The price was excellent, the accommodation was clean and tidy and the view was stunning. Just could not get enough of that view! The cottage has all the utensils etc that you need so you don't need to worry about that. We would stay there again as it is the perfect location.

Fantastic holiday cottages in a brilliant location at the heart of Whitby. With beautiful views across Whitby Harbour from the livingroom window, perfect for seal watching. The cottages have balconies at the back with a private flight of steps down to the beach. The owners have done a great job fitting all the facilities and bedrooms into these cosy cottages. They look tiny from the roadside but are like a tardis when you get inside.

Fantastic views. Convenient location. Comfortable cottage with character. We have stayed in all of them over the last 20 years. We haven't found anything better in Whitby.

White Linen is an elegant Georgian house turned boutique hotel located near Pannett Park in Whitby. The Grade II-listed former shipbuilder's residence, built in 1785, offers a variety of double rooms, some with 4-poster beds and sitting areas. Each room is adorned with chandeliers and large windows that provide ample natural light. The rooms uniquely reflect Whitby's maritime heritage through themes such as adventure, discovery, and upper deck.
Can’t recommend The White Linen enough. Great location just a short walk from the town. The room (Adventure) was spotlessly clean, luxurious but comfortable. Great facilities and brilliant service from Sam, who was brilliant. We stayed for our first wedding anniversary and it was really lovely, Sam made it even better with some nice touches. If you are looking for somewhere relaxing to stay in Whitby, don’t hesitate.

Very clean accommodation. Lots of refreshments in the room. Nothing too much trouble for the owners. Close enough to places to grab a breakfast. We bought breakfast to eat in our room. Excellent coffee machine and plenty of pods. Bottled water, biscuits, a small fridge, kettle and safe etc. Lots of toiletries, towels and good power shower. Big room (Endeavour) with a very comfortable bed. Will stay again

The place is at a great location and everything was clean and comfortable. The bathroom could have been better though. Overall nice place to be.
Manish K — Google review
Booked a three night stay for my wife’s birthday, having booked the “luxury penthouse apartment” we expected Luxury well there is nothing in this apartment that is “luxury” we we’re absolutely shocked at the poor quality of this place, the cleanliness was so bad dirt everywhere even someone’s toenails on the bedside cabinet!! There’s a ring doorbell on the doorframe of the property that is around 3m from the bed and I’m sure the owner if they wanted to could hear everything that was being said in the apartment Needless to say we contacted the owner immediately who basically dismissed us as just being “complainers” it were so bad we weren’t prepared to spend one night in the place and now having to take the owners to court to get our money back.
