Bay
Compton Bay, located on the southern shore of the Isle of Wight, is a 2-mile-long shallow bay with sparkling waters and sandy shores. The beach is backed by multi-colored sandstone cliffs and grassy downs, making it a popular spot for surfers, swimmers, and fossil-hunters. Visitors can enjoy far-reaching views over Tennyson Down and the Needles while picnicking or participating in sandcastle building competitions.
Fabulous beach for any activity....swimming, building sandcastles, walking, rock pooling, fossil hunting....plus amazing sunsets! We went here specifically for rock pooling and fossil hunting and had an amazing time. Found lots of different crabs, little fish and shrimps. Lots of Fools Gold in the fossilised wood and even a prehistoric crocodile tooth, an amazing find!

A lovely sandy beach, great views of the cliff, my dog enjoyed a good roll and run on the sands. Car park was extremely full and a little awkward to park in due to high numbers buying from the icecream van.
E P — Google review
What a great place!! Fantastic views of the the white cliffs and seeing the surfers there it's like a mini Bondi Beach........ definitely worth the visit
Lee D — Google review
One of my favourite beaches on the island - perfect place to spend the day in the summer. Bring a picnic or there’s a great ice cream van. Toilets too. It does get very busy in peak season but justifiably so!
Mily M — Google review
Really nice place. Lovely beach good for a picnic. Good carpark
Kevin P — Google review
Nice clean beach... unfortunately no options to eat and drink... there is onlya ice cream truck..
Rohit B — Google review
Nt car park has toilets probably why there is a charge. Steep hill/steps to get to the bay
Irene P — Google review
Open beach, dogs allowed. No facilities but dinosaur footprints. Lots of Pebbles before getting to the sea. Clear and clean sea 😎

3Steephill Cove Beach

Steephill Cove Beach is a hidden gem on the Isle of Wight, accessible by a 20-30 minute invigorating walk along the seafront with steep steps and inclines. This unspoilt cove offers a small sandy beach for swimming and a peaceful setting to enjoy locally-caught crab and lobster at the Boathouse Seafood restaurant.
I recently visited Steephill Cove Beach with friends and family, and it was a charming experience. This small, cozy pebble beach is unique in its own way, offering a peaceful retreat. There are a few delightful eateries nearby, and the beach has toilets maintained by the local community, which is a nice touch. Kayaks are available for rent if you're looking to explore the waters. However, it's important to note that the beach is not mobility supportive. For parking, we used a private parking space provided by a nearby resident for £3, which was convenient and closer to the beach. Alternatively, you can park at Ventnor Botanic Garden, which is just a short walk away. Be cautious of Love Lane, the road leading to the beach—it’s very narrow, ends in a T-junction, and turning is difficult unless you're skilled at reversing. The beach is accessible via a steep downhill path, but there are steps available as well. It’s a hidden gem, ideal for a relaxing day out if you're prepared for the walk!
Godfrey S — Google review
Beautiful cove accessed only by foot. Amazing views of the sea. Pretty cove and dog friendly. Honesty box toilet facilities but no hand towels or dryer. You can hire chairs etc and buy drinks and food.
Jackie — Google review
Beautiful cove with small independent cafes and restaurants, able to hire water sports equipment and sun loungers. We parked at the botanic garden car park, you can buy anything from the cafe or gift shop for £10 for free parking, it was then a short walk to the cove.
Gemma P — Google review
Beautiful cove and bay. Recommend a visit Clear blue sea and pebble beach. Only accessible by foot. Independent cafes and kayak and paddle board hire. Toilets.
Heather S — Google review
Utter joy! - perfect little cove, everyone so friendly whatever time of year. It can be deserted or busy but it’s just was wonderful either way. Seasonal cafe offer. Incredible air all year round. For sea swimmers, watch out for jelly fish. Also, the sea weed can be a little sticky and there are steep shingle drops and rocks so always best to take care and if possible, surf shoes. Best accessed on foot from Ventnor through La Falaise and Flowers Brook as views are incredible and you don’t get the joy of seeing Steephill, just the promise of it as you make your way along the coast.
Julia A — Google review
Such a beautiful spot. A very small cove only accessed via a set of steep steps (not recommended if mobility is a problem). But if you can get down, it's so worth it. The cove is absolutely gorgeous. There are 3 places you can grab a bite to eat or drink. Ice cream parlour. Toilets (please wait as no one seems to maintain it but could have been an off day).
Sandy T — Google review
Beautiful little cove! I went in the evening, so nothing was open but I shall return in the day time. The walk back up is not for the faint hearted!
Nicki R — Google review
Lovely inlet. Looks like people were marooned there and settled over time. Crab Shack closed at 3-30pm so it's a early doors visit. Coastal walk to Ventnor is hilly but a good walk

Beaches
Shanklin Beach, located on the south east coast of the Isle of Wight, is a popular destination known for its golden sands and traditional English seafront promenade. Despite losing its pier in 1987, the beach now features a semi-circular vantage point with benches. The area exudes a traditional seaside charm with colorful esplanades and typical amusements. Visitors can enjoy water sports or simply relax on the sandy shores while taking in the vibrant atmosphere.
We visited Shanklin Beach on the Isle of Wight and were blown away by the views — absolutely breathtaking! The beach has a charm of its own, with a relaxed vibe and stunning coastal scenery. It’s the kind of place that feels peaceful but still has plenty of character. Whether you’re after a quiet walk, some time by the sea, or just want to take in the views, it’s definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended if you’re heading to the island!
Dipesh N — Google review
Absolutely loved this beach! You can hire beds, umbrellas and tables for a good price as well as paddle boards and kayaks. The sea is not warm but you can swim in it comfortably, certainly on a warm July day. Not overcrowded and absolutely stunning sunrises!
Joanne B — Google review
Shanklin Beach is nice for a family visit but not without its drawbacks. The location itself is lovely, with beautiful sea views and a promenade full of cafés, arcades, and little shops to keep the kids entertained. The beach has a safe, gentle slope into the water which makes paddling good for younger ones, and when the tide is right there’s a fair bit of sand to enjoy. That said, there are a few things that stop it from being perfect. Parts of the beach can be quite pebbly and uncomfortable to walk on, especially when the tide is in, so beach shoes are a must. Parking nearby is often expensive and can be hard to find on busy days, and the prices for food and drinks felt a bit on the high side for what you get. It also gets very crowded in peak season, which takes away from the relaxed atmosphere. Overall, it’s a good family beach with plenty to do, but you need to time your visit carefully and be prepared for the costs and crowds.
Saad A — Google review
I visited Shanklin Beach back in October 2024. The beach is beautiful and has a surprisingly large amount of interesting driftwood to explore! The third photo looks like it could be turned into a glorious little hotel! Also the beach has groynes to minimizes the amount of erosion!
Ultimate G — Google review
Fantastic beach, very tidy and clean. Perfect for families with kids as well as families with well behaved older kids lol! The cafe is a “new” feature since we came approx 10 years ago, but it’s a welcome addition.
David P — Google review
I love everything about Shanklin except for the fact once you’re down on the beach, without transportation, it’s a physical challenge getting back up the hill!! There is a lift except it wasn’t working when I visited mid October. Walking up through Shanklin Chine was better than using the steep road. Not suitable for wheelchair users and I’d say difficult with small children. But the beach is lovely. There are plenty of shops, gift and food places. Mini golf and beach activities for families.
Hannah F — Google review
Brilliant beach day, can hire sun beds, parasols and paddleboards and kayaks. Loved it!

Ventnor Beach, located on the southeast coast of the Isle of Man, offers a charming Victorian seaside atmosphere and is considered one of the best beaches in the Isle of Wight. Its red shingle and golden sand are complemented by a promenade and picturesque beach huts. The beach is conveniently situated near various beachfront attractions, including cafes and ice cream shops.
I have been visiting Ventnor beach since I was very little and every time I go back, I love it just as much. The views from the hills above are just stunning, especially when you get a good sunset. The beach itself is a real sun trap, and has the perfect mix of sand and shingle. It’s also a great place to look for sea glass with plenty being washed up. Truly the perfect beach for a solo, couples or family trip — forever my favourite beach in the UK.
Keith D — Google review
Ventnor Beach on the Isle of Wight is a true gem, an absolutely splendid spot for a relaxing day by the coast. Nestled below dramatic cliffs, this beach offers a unique mix of pebbles and sandy stretches, backed by a charming promenade with lively cafés, galleries, and boutique shops. We visited on a beautiful sunny day and couldn’t have asked for more. The water was inviting and clear, perfect for paddling or just cooling off. Although the access involves a steep descent, it was totally worth it for the peaceful atmosphere below, less crowded than many other beaches, giving a wonderfully tranquil vibe. What really stood out was the stunning scenery: rugged coastline, colourful beach huts, and that iconic view of the Victorian-era Ventnor Botanic Garden perched above. This is a fantastic place to stroll, spot wildlife (we saw some seabirds and rock pool life), or even enjoy a bit of people-watching from the promenade. Facilities are refreshingly simple—there’s public access (though check tide times as parking and close beach access can be affected), clean public toilets, and friendly local cafés just a few minutes’ walk away. If you’re looking for a laid-back, scenic seaside escape on the Isle of Wight, Ventnor Beach is definitely worth a visit. We had a wonderful, memorable time and would recommend it to families, couples, or anyone wanting a peaceful coastal experience.

VISIT DATE: SUN 27/07/2025 Visited with family whilst staying close by in Bonchurch. This is a fairly standard beach, with a combination of shingle and sand, a reasonable amount of restaurants and beach huts. Boat tours are available from the location and it is a pleasant, 30 minute walk from / to Bonchurch. The Cascade Gardens are nice, but the public toilets are dismal and in severe need of renovation!
Hayley B — Google review
Hidden gem located at the southern coast of the IoW. Can spend a few hours at the beach and also explore the town centre. Can walk along the coastal path.
Preet S — Google review
It’s a quiet place in October, a beach with little pebbles and seaweeds. Most restaurants were closed. Nothing much to do here but my little one had 30 mins fun with the pebbles. The sound of waves are nice and air is clean. We can see ferries passing by.

It was amazing experience to use fairy to get there from midlands. Absolutely gorgeous place to visit in summer. People were very friendly and polite. Cleanliness was amazing and beaches were heavenly secluded and beautiful. It was so peaceful and nice that I’m planning to going there again in open season. Local businesses need support as they only rely on tourists to don’t forget the contribute in to local charities and small local businesses. They are the backbone of this beautiful island.

Bembridge Beach, located on the east coast of the Isle of Wight, offers a mix of pebbly and sandy areas. At low tide, a beautiful stretch of sand is revealed, perfect for leisurely walks and shell collecting. The beach is known for its rock pooling opportunities and is popular among early morning swimmers. It's also a prime spot for sailing, with impressive views of Bembridge Ledge and St. Helens Fort.
Such a beautiful area. When looking at the pier, head left along the shore until you reach a little town. It's a great walk that you can just about make even when it's near high-tide (just, it gets a little hairy). On a nice day it feels like being abroad!
Olly P — Google review
Lovely beach. V clean. Went rock pooling. Clean changing facilities. Ample parking nearby.
Meeta C — Google review
Walking beach with interesting erosion of low cliffs and loads of wood washed up on the beach, and some huge trees. Beach was a little smelly between Brembridge and the golf club. Dog walking allowed. There is a small RNLI shop. And there were 2 members of RNLI selling membership by the loos. There was a nice sandwich van. Views of Solent and lifeboat launch
Anna E — Google review
Lovely Beach, spent all of last Summer on it. The beach is clean, spacious, and quiet. The water is calm so it is ideal for paddle sports, and you get a great view of the lifeboat station, and the mainland.

Colwell Bay, situated on the west side of the Isle of Wight, is renowned for its pristine coastline and is a popular spot for swimming, snorkeling, and various water activities. Families are drawn to this area due to its ample parking and a long promenade along the sand and shingle beach. A leisurely stroll from Colwell Bay leads to Totland Bay, offering another beautiful beach experience.
This is a nice place. Part of the beach has small stones, part is sand. The sand is wet, as the tide covers the beach fully. Check the tide time, as the beach is only narrow so it will be fully under water when the tide is in. The path leads to the costal path, ice cream shop, beach shop and a restaurant -the Hut. It is possible to walk all the way to the Needles from here. This is a great walk.
Dorota K — Google review
We absolutely love spending our holidays here! The local cafe caters for everything! Ice-cream is delicious. We hired out a kayak today and had a blast! A family of 3 generations gives it top marks, this beach is definitely the best!
Cheryl S — Google review
Small stretch of sandy and pebbly beach. The limited sandy 'real estate' means that it is less crowded. Can see the main land on a clear sunny day. Our visit here is just for a short detour, less than an hour.
CD — Google review
Very little todo here apart from walk up and down the coast line. Sea was in so there's is a concrete path along the coast, two shops with gift shops 🎁 , two bars 🍸 and a stunning restaurant called the Hut on the front, reminds me of St.Tropez but unfortunately fully booked for the next few days... maybe next time. Its OK to spend an hour or so here but I'd soon get bored. Lovely looking at the sea views. If you like this review pls hit the thumbs up 👍🏻
Gareth — Google review
beautiful beach, there are enough cafes and stores to fill all your needs, selling local ice cream of many flavours. the beach spans for long enough that you can always find a private spot to sit at, even when busy.
Kate A — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous little place with food and drink for all pockets.
David H — Google review
Lovely sandy bay with safe swimming Plenty of places to grab some food at all prices The Hut has excellent reviews but you need to book, it's very popular with city folk with deep pockets. Marge's cafe is very popular on the slipway, good place for children to have a fun day on the beach. Check the tide times to avoid disappointment, otherwise you'll have no beach! Parking can be difficult so arrive early.

Yaverland Beach, located between Sandown and the Culver Down cliffs on the Isle of Wight, is a popular destination known for its golden sand and clean, shallow waters. It is a dog-friendly beach throughout the year and features a large nearby car park with amenities such as a beach cafe and small shop. The area also boasts a bustling sailing club that attracts watersports enthusiasts, including surfers, jet skiers, and windsurfers.
Amazing walks along the flat and expansive Beach out at Yaverland towards Bembridge. Tide was out which makes the walk even longer as you can get right around to the tip. Be careful as the tide does come in quickly but a great place for a marching walk, leisurely or walk with the dogs if you have them. We did a lot of walking from shanklin all the way around to Yaverland and back. The sea views and all the ships are just stunning as are the cliffs. One of if not my favourite walks.

- Amazing beach, quiet and clean - Most of the beach sections are dog friendly - You can find cool rocks and shells if u go when the tide is low - The parking is really close to the beach- literally in front of it, cheap parking rates too - You do have to pay to use the toilet: it costs 50p/use - Cute little cafe serving coffees, cold drinks and some snacks

Yeavaland Beach is a quiet, unspoiled stretch of coastline on the Isle of Wight, perfect for those seeking peace and natural beauty. It’s not overly crowded, making it ideal for relaxing walks, beachcombing, or simply enjoying the fresh sea breeze. The views are calming, and the shallow waters make it a good spot for paddling. It’s more of a wild beach, so there are no commercial facilities—but that’s part of its charm. Great for a peaceful getaway surrounded by nature.
Muhammad K — Google review
I have 3 favourite beaches on the Isle of Wight for 3 different reasons. Yaverland is in the top 3, it’s a very peaceful beach, enclosed by a cliff rising up to Culver Down, there’s a decent cafe, toilets, good parking. My dog lives his best life here, there’s nowhere he’s happier than on this beach. There’s beautiful views in every direction, so much open space, especially when the tide is out. If you walk right to the end when the tide is out there’s rock pools you can find all sorts of sea creatures in.

Sandown Beach, located on the east coast of the Isle of Wight, is home to Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, a registered charity that provides a forever home for rescued big cats. The sanctuary aims to promote endangered species' survival through educational experiences and exemplary animal management. The beach itself is a top attraction known for its unique features that draw in numerous visitors each year. It offers various accommodation options nearby and convenient access to attractions such as Brading Roman Villa and Carisbrooke Castle.
Sandown is a wonderful spot to go with your family and enjoy the sun at the beach. There are many shops and seagulls. So take care of the seagulls when you enjoy your food! I think it's a wonderful idea to start a tour at Bembridge Down. Then you walk down to Sandown and carry on to Shanklin. You can walk the whole time in sand and enjoy the cool waves on a warm day..

Our favourite family beach on the island ! Always so much room for everyone! Only down side is it’s quite pebbly and sharp in some bits so recommend some beach socks ( or what ever people call them ) other than that lovely! And you can find loads of sea glass!!
Melissa F — Google review
This is a sandy beach. The stretch between the Pier and the Fins Beach Cafe is much quieter and overall very nice but the tide comes here quicker. The beach is flat and we arrived at 10:00am and the tide was in by 11:00am, so you definitely need to check the times of the tide as they are very changeable. We have moved to the other side of the Pier close to Bayshore Hotel and the beach is going up a bit there, so that has given us 2 hours extra before the tide came in. The beach is relatively narrow, so the water will cover the beach in full when the tide is in. The place is a bit run down, so it does not have an amazing atmosphere. There are small cafes there, ice cream and further in town places to eat. The car park is on the street and there is a decent number of spaces all along the stretch of the beach. Civil Enforcement Officers monitor the payment for the car park, so do not be late even 1 min. We were packing to the car on our return from the beach and the officer was still scanning our car while we were there.
Dorota K — Google review
This is by far my favourite beach on the Isle of Wight. With the pier and the seafront restaurants, bars, gift shops, and ice cream outlets,it is the epitome of great British seaside beach holidays. It has soft, golden sands and crystal clear sea, which was also lovely and warm to swim in. The lifeguards are lovely and friendly too and quite easy on the eye 😊

A lovely beach to have a relaxed day. The pier is great. There are games you can play, there are rides for kids. Some people were even fishing. And I had the best donuts here. I keep on trying donuts in other places hoping they will taste nearly as good but they never do.

Nice massive beach. My kid really enjoyed as he found a lot of sea shells. Not your typical pebbly beach. It has a harbour besides. Some ice cream shops and play areas near it as well

Beautiful beach. Full of sand and so many shells. My children really enjoyed playing in the sand and collecting shells. Be careful of the tide though, as it comes in quick. A great beach, especially if you have a dog. We took the hovercraft over from Portsmouth as a treat for the kids. Spent a few hours on the seafront and had lunch by the tower. Dogs can go on the beach once you pass the tower. Our dog loved it! Running around, playing with the other dogs there and trying to drink sea water. The kids enjoyed finding loads of shells. Some great ice cream parlours too. Shame the boating lake was closed due to covid.

Alum Bay is a must-visit tourist attraction known for its stunning multi-colored sand cliffs and breathtaking views of the Needles rock formation. A suggested tour includes a coastal drive to Alum Bay, where visitors can see the famous Needles and take a chairlift to the beach. The area also features the premier yachting center of Cowes and nearby attractions such as Osborne House in East Cowes.
We visited this on an overcast day and used the cable car to get down there. Very interesting colours and I haven’t seen anything like it before. Sadly it looks like it is victim to landslides as the earth is very soft. We walked back up which was pleasant and then took the road up to the Old Battery where you get a much better overview of the coastline. Worth a visit.
Vebeus 1 — Google review
Over all it was nice to see but we didn’t end up going down the the beach just observing from the coast path. The visitors centre was very touristy but quite fun for all as you could watch glass wear being made, there was plenty of cafes and places to get refreshments and a fill your own bottle of sand were they sustainably source all 21 shades of sand from the cliffs. There were a couple of small dinosaurs rides but they were nothing special.
Harriet T — Google review
Nice spot to visit, but be warned everything costs money and plenty of it. The chair ride to beach is good but at over £10pp is ridiculously expensive, the coloured sand in a bottle was fun but again expensive. Food, drinks and ice creams were available but not cheap. Unfortunately the chairs were not stopping on beach which was a shame but safety is paramount. It's an attraction that has plenty to offer and stunning views but probably best to remortgage your house first.
Leon H — Google review
We didn't use the chairlifts to get to the beach and went around the long way (not the stairs on the side of the chairlifts, too steep). The beach is covered in pebbles of differing shape, size and colour! What's interesting is that the nearer you get to the white cliff, the more you see pure white pebbles! I think this would be something children would find extremely fascinating. There's also a few mini-waterfalls (not sure what to call them) found on the multi-coloured cliff, flowing to the sea. On the beach, you've also got access to the boat rides. Overall, it's quite a spectacular view. You'll see pebbles, big rocks, mud, limestones (i think that's what they were)...so it's not your ordinary beach.
Charwin B — Google review
This is a great place to visit while on the Isle of Wight. Creating your own coloured sand ornament, seeing how glass ornaments are made, tours to see how sweet humbugs are made. And loads more the kuds will love it and the adults will be amazed.
Michelle B — Google review
You can walk or take a cable car down to the beach where stunning cliff formations are made up of many different coloured sands. We took the speed boat tour around the needles and took some great photos of the lighthouse. The beach is quite shingly seeing as that the cliff behind is all sand but is good for a picnic whilst taking in the views. There is an amusement park at the top of the cliffs where children can be entertained. We used the car park and walked further along the coast to the battery - where you can see cannons and armaments that use to protect the coast form attack.

No visit to the island is complete without a trip to Alum Bay! I LOVE it here! The sand shop and terrifying chair lift simply can’t be missed. The gent that helped me get off the lift due to a dodgy knee was lovely, and the gent in the sand shop that chatted to us was so charming( he had been there for over 20 years I think) just those little things make a special visit. Will be back again next year!!
Johanna T — Google review
Really Need to go when it's not peak tourist season, where coach loads cram people into the area. It's so packed tight on the beach, just wasn't a great experience. For those able to walk, get well away from crowds and march on towards the white cliffs. Sky lift was great way and down, views are great. The less able and less mobile were helped on and off, stopping the lift totally to let them on and off. (Queuing for the lift in the way up wasn't as easy, as there was no wheel chair to sit on, but staff provided a chair , that could be moved along as the que progressed) *****Really impressed with staff, very understanding and helpful. Thank you very much *****

Nestled on the stunning Isle of Wight, Appley Beach is a perfect destination for sun-seekers and adventure lovers alike. Spend your day basking in the sun with a delightful ice cream treat or take a refreshing dip in its shallow waters. The beach boasts beautiful golden sands ideal for leisurely strolls, while families can enjoy amenities like playgrounds and mini-golf. Nearby, you can explore the charming Appley Tower, a Victorian mock castle that offers breathtaking views of the coastline.
It is a great attraction to witness a sunrise or sunset over a vast sandy beach ⛱️ A child out walk with your partner or dog to Ryde. It's a very calming place, weather permitting.😅

Lovely beach, really clean and spacious. Nice beach shop, cafe and toilets easily accessible. Good parking close by too.
Adam J — Google review
Really nice spot along from Ryde. Well worth a walk to with some nice beach cafes and restaurants along the way. There is a small historic tower to admire.
Shaun L — Google review
Appley Beach is a great destination for a day out. The contrast between the golden beach (presumably this is where Derek Sandy was singing about!) and the lush green of the spaces on the other side of wide and flat walking/cycling paths is beautiful. There’s not one but two paths and plenty of benches with shelters adorn them both. There’s also plenty of cafes and also toilets if needed. The beach is beautifully Sandy near the paths and then rockier near the sea so plenty of everything for all kinds of kids (and grown ups!) The car park is enormous (if a tad smelly as the water treatment works are below it) though it’s only 10 minutes to walk from the pier and the ferries/hovercraft. On a summer’s day you could be anywhere in the world, though the beautiful folly is a steadfast reminder of where you are. Watch out for the incoming tide as the beach is so flat beyond the ridge and it comes in quickly. Watch out for the sandbanks too! The view of Portsmouth over the Solent is nice and you can see much further east on a clear day. Come here for the day and you won’t regret it!
Alan C — Google review
Wonderful beach. A good mix of sand and small pebbles. Lots of seashells to collect, a great place for sandcastles. When the sea is in, it's seems fairly shallow and calm making it perfect for younger children. When the tide went out, the sand bars created lovely calm 'pools' that were great fun for paddling and exploring. Cafe service was great, reasonable prices. Will definitely return.
Bob W — Google review
Really beautiful beach, not many people around when we visited on a Friday so it was nice and quiet for a walk in the sun. It is clean with a lovely beach and a tower plus a cafe at the end. Good car park too although the price can be a little more expensive than other places I've visited and some of the machines didn't work. Overall, it's worth a visit!
Holly O — Google review
A lovely beach with a decent tower. I headed here to do parkrun, then had a wander along the beach back towards Ryde.

A beautiful beach with bright sand, gentle waves (when we were there anyway) and shade from the big trees opposite. It might even be paradise except you can see Portsmouth over the water. Big car park, lovely park, beach cafe. Lovely!

St Helens Duver, also known as St Helens Beach, is a picturesque spot on the Isle of Wight with its sandy dunes and rocky shingle. The area is famous for its Baywatch on the Beach Cafe, offering a delightful dining experience by the bay. Visitors can explore the remnants of a 13th-century church tower from a Norman priory and take part in the popular Fort Walk to Palmerston's Follies during low tide.
WOW....... What a beautiful place! The Duver Beach, St Helens now falls under the care of the National Trust and it is a great place to visit and explore. The beach is mainly of sand and the bathing is safe. When the tide goes out, this is a great place to explore the rock pools. You can walk along the shoreline to Seagrove and Priory Bays, which are also very secluded. There is plenty of parking and a delightful cafe/restaurant is positioned overlooking the beach and sea. The Duver itself is a sandy outcrop to the side of Bembridge Harbour which was once a golf course and it is a lovely place to walk and take dogs and kids, who will love the wide open space.

Really nice place you can see the shipping lane from the UK to france. Many large vessels parked up and moving around in the distance. The baywatch cafe was really nice a little expensive but quality food. Shame the beach huts are run down and abandoned. All in all a good trip out

More of a nice walk and views than an actual attraction. Amazing spot to look out over the Isle of Wight, great little pub up there also for a drink and good food. What more is there to say 😁

A beautiful beach with sand, stunning views out to the sea fort, and an abandoned church that dates back to the 1200s. Ample parking leads to a great cafe with clean and tidy free toilets. When the breeze picked up we retreated to the car and just sat and watched the world go by. So relaxing. Much loved by dogs based on the number we saw being walked on the beach.

Beach
Alum Bay Pebble Beach is a stunning shingle beach located on the Isle of Wight, offering clear waters for swimming and paddling. The beach is known for its picturesque views of The Needles, three large chalk rocks that protrude from the sea. It is also famous for its multi-colored sand cliffs, with 21 different shades, making it an exciting destination for kids interested in geology or vibrant colors.
Stunning cliffs with sharp pinnacles and bright coloured rock make Alum Bay one of the Isle of Wight's most impressive landscape features. The beach itself can get very busy, but it's worth braving the crowds to see this unique stretch of coastline. The boat trip from the pier gives a great view back to Alum Bay, and gets up close to The Needles. I'd recommend taking the steps unless you really want to ride the chairlift, as the latter isn't cheap and there can be quite a queue for the lift. The Needles Landmark Attraction offers gift shops, cafés and family friendly amusements - very commercialised, but it seemed well run as these places go. Parking was £6 for the day when I visited in August 2024. There's enough to see at Alum Bay and the nearby National Trust - Needles Battery to fill a good few hours.
Andrew T — Google review
Very stony beach, not too busy on a sunny hot day in August. Recommend the boat trip to see the needles lighthouse. The boat isn’t so rocky when it’s on the go. Don’t recommend the chairlift. It’s very short and not worth of money. We did one way trip uphill as it’s easier to walk down. Definitely not worth of return trip. The walk down is very short and don’t involve many steps. You can take scenic pictures on the stairs as well.

Alum Bay Pebble Beach is a hidden gem on the Isle of Wight that offers a unique and picturesque coastal experience. The beach is renowned for its multi-colored sand cliffs, which create a stunning backdrop for the clear blue waters. T The chairlift ride down to the beach provides breathtaking views and is a fun way to start your visit. Once on the beach, you can enjoy a peaceful stroll, collect beautiful pebbles, or simply relax and take in the serene surroundings. The boat trips from the beach to The Needles are a must-do, offering spectacular views of the iconic rock formations and lighthouse. There are also various family-friendly activities and attractions nearby, making it an ideal spot for a day out. The facilities are well-kept, with clean restrooms and a nice selection of cafes and shops nearby. The staff are friendly and helpful, enhancing the overall experience. Alum Bay Pebble Beach is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility of the Isle of Wight. Highly recommended!

The experience of walking on this pebble beach left me a special memory, especially when you running. For the view, both white and colorful cliffs are beautiful, and the sea ocean is tranquil. We arrived at here around dusk, the needles cruise and the chair lift are both closed. They seem very joyful.
River Z — Google review
Many a tourist has returned from a holiday on the Isle of Wight with a souvenir filled with the multicoloured sands of Alum Bay. From the sea, the falling cliffs give a clear view of the different sandy structure making up the cliff face.
Mike D — Google review
We visited for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. The location and food were excellent however service was poor. At one point we had to go to the bar to get our own drinks. They mixed up our mains orders constantly asking who ordered what food. I suggest they re organise the tables instead of apologising constantly for reaching across guests when serving food and drinks. We would have spent a lot more money if the staff had been more attentive.
Chris — Google review
Pebble beach by name and definitely by nature. We came on probably one of the windiest days of the week but it didn't deter us. Spent a good hour walking along the pebbles, which you'll struggle to walk on properly unless you've got decent shoes on. The beautiful colours of the cliffs are definitely worth taking a trip down on the chair lift for. We got there fairly early so there wasn't a lot of people there at that time either which made the experience more pleasant.

Totland Bay on the Isle of Wight is a hidden gem, perfect for those looking to enjoy a peaceful and scenic beach experience. The beach is a mix of pebbles and sand, and the views across the Solent are stunning, especially at sunset. It's the kind of place where you can take a deep breath, relax, and soak in the natural beauty. The water is clear and calm, making it a great spot for swimming or paddling, especially during the warmer months. There are also plenty of opportunities for walking along the promenade or coastal paths, with picturesque views that are ideal for photography or simply taking in the scenery. One of the standout features of Totland Bay is the waterfront restaurant, The Waterfront Bar & Restaurant. It’s the perfect spot to grab a drink or a meal while enjoying the sea views. The service is friendly, and the food is good, making it a great place to rest after a walk or swim. Parking is relatively easy, with spaces available nearby, though it can fill up quickly during peak times. The bay is also dog-friendly, so it’s a great place to bring your pets for a stroll. Overall, Totland Bay is a lovely, quieter alternative to some of the busier beaches on the Isle of Wight. Beautiful, small, clean shingle beach (sandy as soon as you're in the water!) with lovely views of Bournemouth in the distance. Picturesque and fairly quiet when we were there, and perfect for a swim when the tide is in. A nice juxtaposition to the busy, wavy, big sands of Compton Bay. The beach boasts golden sands adjacent to Compton Bay, making it an ideal spot for dog-friendly outings. Accessible via footpaths winding down from clifftops above, the area is known for its dinosaur fossils and footprints, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore prehistoric remnants along the foreshore.
Brook Bay is a natural wonder. The beach is sand and pebble and is lovely to visit for lots of different activities including dog walking,BBQ,swimming, fossil hunting or just to pass the time soaking up the stunning scenery. At very low tide there are dinosaur tracks leading into the sea on the ledge at Hanover point, they are an amazing sight, you can also find casts of dinosaur footprints and I have provided photos of these. I have seen Peregrine Falcons and Ravens along the cliffs which themselves are in a constant state of erosion so beware and stay off of them. There is a car park owned by the National Trust where you have to pay to park or you can park on the wide verges on the road. There is a clear path down to the beach with some steps and the last bit can be tricky as you access the beach itself as it is rough track after the steps end and could present a challenge to the less active. There are no toilets here. A wonderful wild place, I love it

It is often compared to a beach on the Cornish coast and is great for surfing and family outings, although amenities are limited so bringing a picnic is advisable.
Good place to have a walk with kids, with a dog or by yourself. We found dinosaurs prints and enjoyed rock climbing. There are fossil walks there too, but we've skipped it. Lots of parking and even an ice cream van to cool you down. Thoroughly enjoyed exploring that site of the island

Sandy beach below constantly eroding orange cliffs. A popular location for swimming, water sports and watching the seabirds. Striking geological contrast where the orange sandstone cliffs meet the white chalk. A small stream flows down the cliff a short walk east from the National Trust parking area; hardly a waterfall compared to Shanklin Chine or the coastal waterfalls in Devon, but still worth a quick look. The parking area is large and managed by the National Trust, so members park for free, otherwise there's a charge. There are toilet facilities, and a National Trust coffee van was there both times I visited. The beach disappears at high tide, so check the time times before visiting. Only downside is that the water management pipes on the main beach detract somewhat from the natural beauty, but are doubtless there to prevent severe erosion issues.

Lovely beach and cliffs to watch surfers, car park and toilet facilities. A lovely spot with beautiful views. The beach does disappear with high tide.
Laurence R — Google review
Lovely beach, great for the family and making sandcastles! New toilet block is modern and ice creams from National Trust van are amazing! Dogs allowed on the beach but only on the left as you go down the steps. Just be aware that the parking app has changed to Just Park (Aug 2025) Option to pay later if you struggle with signal at the beach too.

I loved this bay so much, of course it is much more popular for many reasons, but you can still enjoy a lovely walk, just not completely on your own, except it is raining, then you might be the only one there.
Oliver L — Google review
A really nice play to find fossils, investigate the rocks and beach area. Plenty of people surfing and paddle boarding when we went in May. National trust car park with Cafe Van and a good toilet block.
Adam J — Google review
Nice beach with national trust parking and toilets. Access to the beach is down some wooden steps.
Me — Google review
Beautiful sandy beach which is lovely as the sun is going down. It is very big at low tide and plenty of space to walk along the beach for a stroll. There is a car park at the top which is national trust and then some steps down to the bottom. Beware of any cliff falls though as the car park is slowly being swallowed into the sea! The steps up and down are also not looking particularly stable as you can see in the pictures. But overall its worth a visit!

Freshwater Bay is a picturesque gem on the Isle of Wight, perfect for those seeking both relaxation and adventure. With its stunning chalk cliffs and shingle beach, it offers breathtaking views of the coastline that stretch far into the horizon. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks to the iconic Tennyson Monument or along scenic routes towards Compton Bay, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers. The bay is also a hub for watersports enthusiasts looking to make the most of its inviting waters.
A wonderful place to make a short stop or to experience the sunset on the Isle of Wight. There are surely better place as you can't see the sun itself going under. But it's still a beautiful spot.

I visited here on the 21st April. Lovely little place but the weather wasn't great. If you visit here, take some time to go the independent life boat shop. It's a great way to donate and the coffee is great.

Manor house
Osborne House, located on the Isle of Wight, is a magnificent Italian-inspired mansion surrounded by lush gardens. Once the beloved holiday home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, it boasts opulent family rooms and state chambers to explore. The Royal Collection housed within offers a glimpse into the royal family's life. Visitors can also enjoy the walled gardens and even access the private beach that was cherished by the royals.
Absolutely stunning stately house and gardens. We visited Osborne on our holiday to the Isle of Wight and were blown away. The lovely gardens were filled with trees and plants. The Swiss Cottage and children's garden is worth checking out with a scavenger hunt to entertain kids. The beach was lovely with a nice picnic spot and a Punch and Judy was shown on our visit. The house was filled with well-preserved rooms and every object had a rich history behind it. We were more than satisfied with the amount we were able to see and particularly enjoyed the banquet room at the end. They also have a really nice tea room serving cakes, pastries, lunches and hot and cold drinks. If you come to the Isle of Wight, you must see Osborne.
Cwis448 — Google review
Beautiful walk around gardens and house. The pictures of Queen Victoria and family hanging on walls are beautiful. The rooms are beautiful and in amazing condition. After viewing house we explored the grounds which are stunning! Great place and well worth a visit.

Second visit; possibly a future third, there's much to see. Worth joining English Heritage! Large car park after tricky right turn into the estate, from the south. A few steps to entrance and shop with adjacent café (very good baked potato). Huge expanse of grounds. Beautiful specimen trees and terrace garden with much in bloom, for October. Superb views across the Solent. Didn't reach the play house or beach this time (duff hip), although I did note what seemed to be a shuttle bus as I left! Extremely well laid out history boards of various family members.
Noel F — Google review
This was one of the most beautiful English Heritage places I have visited. Osbourne House is set within the grounds of The Osborne Estate. The House was the holiday home to Queen Victoria and her family. You can clearly see why she spent alot of her time here. The rooms in the house and perfectly kept and decorated giving you a glimpse into their lives and the past. The House is the crowning glory but the grounds are remarkably kept and worth spending an hour walking through the gardens. Whilst doing so, take a stroll down to The Queen's Road, down at the Beachfront then up to The Swiss Cottage. Now, as an English Heritage member I am always full of praise for staff and volunteers at these sites who do such a great job and are friendly and eager to talk but unfortunately the English Heritage staff within the house on our day of visiting were not so, speaking to several other visitors that day they too had also encountered the same as ourselves. Very disappointed as the staff members inside the house made my visit and experience and intimidating one. This aside, other staff around the site and welcome centre were great. A lovely place to spend a good 3 to 4 hours. Car park if free for English Heritage membership.
Matt L — Google review
We've wanted to visit here for some time....outstanding. Staff - their knowledge and helpfulness and those that work 'behind the scenes' maintaining such beautiful gardens, general estate. A very tranquil place to be. The house itself steeped in history, wonderful stories of life at Osborne during and after Victoria and Albert.
Donna M — Google review
The Royal holiday home!! A treasure trove of delights awaits inside the beautiful House! A guide in each room to add to the experience, all willing to help! We we ushered to the lift( mobility problems spotted by guide!) and took the House from top to bottom in complete comfort and joy! We took lunch on the Terrace with a magical view down to the beach and many pictures later walked down through the tall trees to see the beach at closer quarters! After an ice-cream at the pretty tea shop we took the minibus back to the entrance( rather long cold wait for it to arrive..needed a coat! ) Absolutely fabulous visit well worth the entrance fee!!

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert at Osborne on the Isle of Wight. From sumptuous interiors and art collections inside, to a peaceful beach and marvellous gardens outside, a day out at Osborne has something for everyone. Explore Osborne’s vast grounds, follow the interactive tree trail and find the unusual Swiss Cottage, where the royal children played, gardened, cooked and collected unusual objects in their own private museum. Victoria and Albert bought and built Osborne to fulfil the queen’s desire for a ‘place of one’s own – quiet and retired’. Its dazzling interiors, art collection, gardens and grounds reflect their personal passions, taste and style. There are four food and drink outlets you’ll find around the estate. There are also plenty of great picnicking spots throughout the grounds, and a play area to explore.
David R — Google review
Liked the house itself, design, gardens and setting. Not so keen on the interiors, not helped by having to stand in a queue on the stairs to get to the upstairs rooms which were stuffy and unpleasantly warm. Too many people in the house at once. Cafe, shop, toilets. Busy when coach parties arrive.

Nestled just north of the bustling Shanklin Beach lies the serene Small Hope Beach, a hidden gem perfect for families seeking a peaceful retreat. This charming stretch of sand is framed by a stunning cliff face and dotted with colorful beach huts, creating an inviting atmosphere. The gentle slope of the sands makes it ideal for children to splash around and enjoy paddling in the water.
I loved the walk from Sandown to Shanklin. Just take the time you need, don't rush and enjoy the waves

Nice beach at the north end of Shanklin. It’s a small stretch of sand with a load of beach huts and a cafe. There’s also the sailing club here. It’s popular with families to sit and play in the sand. There’s a tap near the sailing club for drinking water or washing sand off feet.

East Cowes sea front is a peaceful and family-friendly beach with a mix of sand and shingle. It offers ample space for swimming and playing, making it ideal for families. However, visitors should be mindful of the tide times as the beach area diminishes significantly at high tide. The area features a children's play area with a large paddling pool, as well as outdoor seating at a tea and burger bar. Additionally, there are opportunities to observe cruise liners and large shipping ships passing by.
It’s a tradition to come down here at the start and end of our trip over to see family. Always quiet. There’s a play park here which my son seems to enjoy. Seasonal walk up cafe too. Great location to spot cruise ships also!

Tapnell Farm Park is a farm-themed amusement park located near Yarmouth in West Wight. It offers a variety of activities for visitors, including go-kart rides, sledge slides, and play areas. The park features a petting zoo with farm animals as well as exotic creatures like wallabies and meerkats. Additionally, there are indoor and outdoor attractions such as soft play areas and adventure activities like zip wires and trampolines.
We visited here when we were on holiday. It is a fantastic place to take your children. We have a 1 and 3 year old and they had the best time. The indoor soft play was fantastic and clean. As it was a hot day there was plenty of things to do while keeping out of the sun. Especially the shaded picnic area which was outside. My toddler loved the go karts and the inflatable obstacle course. Lots to do and see. Would totally recommend coming here!
Kat H — Google review
We had a brilliant family day out at Tapnell Farm on the Isle of Wight! As two adults and two children, we found there was so much to keep everyone happy. The kids loved meeting the animals, racing around the adventure play areas, and splashing about at the fantastic Aqua Park – definitely a highlight of the day! We also enjoyed a lovely meal at The Cow restaurant, which had delicious food and a really friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Everything was clean, well organised, and set in such a beautiful location. A perfect mix of fun, food, and fresh air – we can’t wait to come back!

A great day out for kids of all ages. we only spent the afternoon here and with only one 5 year old that was fine. But with more kids or older ones I think you could easily spend the whole day here.
Wendy — Google review
Loved it here. So much to do for the kids. Football golf was a huge success with my footie crazy boys. The animal park was great, we especially loved feeding the wallabies.
Carrie — Google review
Paid £68 for a family of 4 members, didn’t find the value for that money, we came under the impression that children are allowed to play with animals but it’s based on their show time and that too very limited. We were expecting more animals in this price because the play area is not the thing we came here for, it’s an over rated place maybe it is good for the people that stay here because i think a zoo would be lower in cost and with more animals in it as well.
Saad A — Google review
We went off peak One of my party was a wheelchair user, all the staff was super helpful, as we went in off peak season we didn't have to queue for anything, a very child friendly place, And that is so much to keep them entertained for hours we ate at the restaurant the cow. The food is amazing.

A fantastic place for a day out for a family with children of all ages, whatever the weather. With helpful friendly staff, reasonable prices to eat and drink or space to bring your own food but crucially plenty of space it is hard to fault as a children’s farm.

This was a brilliant place to take children and for adults to walk around . So much to do for the children and the easter event was fab too well thought out lots of shows to watch, characters walking round etc . Lymington Sea Water Swimming Baths, located in the Georgian seafaring town of Lymington, offer a unique swimming experience. The baths feature an inflatable obstacle course, making it a fun destination for families with children. Lifeguards are always on duty to ensure safety. These historic open-air sea water baths were built in the early 19th century and are known for their health-giving waters and natural mud minerals.
Went as a spectator to watch family members doing SUP. Prices seems very reasonable. Plenty of seating for the spectators, some in the shade too. Café kiosk selling drinks etc. Changing facilities with shower. The Salt water pool has an inflatables course, swimming area and the SUP section. Plenty of staff around. Lots of fun for all the family

Great inflatable water park. Water is nice and clean. Salt water, but teenagers and adults can touch the bottom so can avoid head going under most of the time. Wet suits were advised even in summer but not too bad without. Private cubicle changing rooms available, and showers for after. Great chips at cafe. Huge variety and amounts of inflatable obsticles and runs to choose from, and the 2 hour session is so much better than other water parks I've been to.
Michael H — Google review
Such a great place for all ages. The water is cold but you can hire wet suits for £6. The sessions are almost two hours so it’s decent value for money. Also a nice little cafe and New Forest ice cream. Showers and changing rooms are sufficient. Lots of seating dotted around for spectators. Parking is sometimes busy so leave plenty of time. We did the 11am-12.50 session followed by a drive in to the new Forest for a picnic after, making for a good family day out. Adults can spectate for £2.50 or swim in the separate section for just £4.50… or of course take part. Special mention to staff today who were fab and super informative. We were greeted by a lifeguard who gave us a rundown of the rules and safety info which was much appreciated. Also everyone has to wear a buoyancy aid, which is provided.

A mecca visit to the historical house of photography and books, with a fantastic tea room too. Went with friends in the VW van, Hendrix adorned to one side, Hendrix statue in the grounds too. Punk Rock week, Photography of the era, visited the field, a Woodstock of the 1970s. People paid to get in, while the hill side looking down on the stage must have been way out, chilling, listening and smoking the day away to Hendrix and the like....just a great site and historical value kept alive by the children of today, well mid sixties, but to others keeping it alive...love n peace ✌🏻

Pleasant museum, best for people with a strong interest in portrait photography. The house is a beautiful example of Victorian architecture, with many original features. Obtained a blue badge permit from IOW Council and travelled the trail by 4x4. Joined the trail at the start in Carisbrooke and travelled as far as we could through to Freshwater Bay. The views of the island from a different angle were fantastic and stopped for a picnic across the trail at one of the many benches. Enjoyed it so much we travelled the trail in reverse to get back. 4 1/2 hours return journey with a great cuppa from the lifeboat shop in Freshwater. Well worth getting the permit so people with walking difficulties can enjoy the views.

Golf course
Freshwater Bay Golf Club, located on the Isle of Wight, offers a stunning seaside links style course that overlooks the English Channel. With its par 68 and 5,725 yards length, it provides a challenge for golfers of all skill levels. The picturesque setting lives up to its slogan 'See the sea from every tee!' and welcomes visitors year-round. The course's high cliffs offer spectacular views from every point, making it a must-visit for golf enthusiasts.
Beautiful Links course which is well maintained. Quite an expensive round but I understand that clubs in tourist areas need to make money from visitor tees. Very challenging course with lots of long rough, be prepared to lose lots of balls. This is also one of the hilliest courses I’ve played on, definitely a workout!!
TJ J — Google review
Nice staff (chap gave us a county club discount) and course layout. However, greens were super long and fairway not cut in a while meaning a few times we lost balls in patches of rough in the middle of it. If you roll off the fairway say goodbye to your ball entirely 🤣. Highlight is a 170 yard par 3 playing 130 because of elevation 👍🏻
Joe B — Google review
Excellent course - the views from practically every angle are second to none! Good value Twilight round. I played on a calm sunny day - when the wind blows, this would be a tricky course!
Martin A — Google review
Played Freshwater Bay golf club today, have driven past numerous times and even walked up Tennison previously. We booked by phone as they do issue playing times to players, so don't just turn up expecting to play. Our green fee was inexpensive with our County card £22 each and £10 for electric trolley (recommended). The golf course is situated on the south side of the Isle of Wight, on top of high cliffs. If you see the photos there are spectacular views from any point of the golf course. The tee area's were all in good condition as were the fairways especially considering the drought conditions we endured this summer. The greens and surrounds were exceptional good coverage of thick healthy grass, the greens weren't particularly fast today but played very consistent with a true roll. The course isn't particularly long at all, this didn't mean it wasn't a good test of skill, with some small greens. Had a really good welcome from proud members asking how we faired on their beautiful golf course

In addition to having a pool and entertainment facilities, this Parkdean Resorts holiday park is known for its family-friendly amenities including an indoor swimming pool, sports court, adventure play area, shop, bar, restaurant, and launderette.
Lovely Holiday Park to stay, to which I have visited several times previously. Having great amenities suchasa indoors swimming pool and a safe playground area for children. Having a Club house, live cabaret acts and not forgetting get your dabbers out "Bingo". The Holiday Park over looks the picturesque Thorness Bay. Our caravan was very clean and tidy on our arrival, finding it having central heating, double glazing, a full gas cooker, fridge/freezer and microwave oven .All the beds having been made up.on our arrival. Great location for easy travelling around the Island with Cowes only a 16 minutes drive away. All in all it's an ideal family Park for the young and old alike

Upon arriving at our caravan everything seemed ok, upon further inspection our main cabin bed sheets had many black wiry hairs on the sheet and duvet. When turning the heating on in the caravan we noticed we had no heating or hot water and the boiler was reading an error code. My husband rang reception to report both things and was told an engineer would be out to look at the boiler asap and house keeping would come and change the bedding. The engineer turnt up very quickly and fixed the problem which was low pressure. Later that night when we tried the hot water again to have a shower, there was no hot water again and boiler reading same code. We rang reception again to report and also to say house keeping had not been to change the sheets yet. They sent out the engineer again who sorted it once again and told us that they had a boiler gas engineer on site that day and he would come and have a look at the boiler as he did not know why this was happening. No one showed up and my husband had to keep sorting the boiler out himself every time we needed hot water. With housekeeping they did eventually show up but knocked on our door and threw the bag of clean sheets at my husband and drove off. This is not what we expected as we were told house keeping was coming to change the sheets. Felt very disappointed that we had to change the dirty sheets even though this was not caused by us. Rest of the caravan was clean. After the initial problems we did have a restful stay and entertainment was good. Found one member of staff at the barhouse to be quiet rude when ordering drinks. When order placed he never spoke. Just poured our drinks and said the total. No please, no thank you, no pleasantries at all. (This was all week, not just a one off) we felt like we were bothering him every time we ordered something. I wish staff wore name tags so I could at least report him to the manager but difficult when not knowing the name of the staff member.

4 of us shared a 3 bed caravan which was clean. The twin rooms are very small. There were plenty of pans, cups, plates and cutlery. The caravan we had did not have any outside parking so we had to walk with our luggage from a parking bay which could be difficult if you have any mobility problems. The site has a grocery shop, chip shop, ice cream/dessert kiosk, on site bar and restaurant, entertainment every night, swimming pool, football pitch, access to the beach. The staff on site were very friendly and helpful. Thorness Bay is tucked away in beautiful surroundings. I would recommend for families with children or pets. We could not get wifi in the caravan but it was available at the club house.

We spent a week there. If you looking for a REAL family tech free holiday you will find it there! There are no mobile data or network available in the park at all! Wifi only available around the main buildings and entertainment area. So if you would like to have a little go on your phone in the bed,,, it will be impossible! Better to take some board game with you! TV is the same! Not much reception so ca 5 channels available. The rooms were relatively clean, but windows were extremely dirty. One living room sofa was disgustingly smelly. It was stunk! Someone probably poured milk on it months earlier. All knife were completely blunt. Useless! The positive side: entertainment was fantastic, indoor pool was clean and fun! Kitchen items was nice and clean, built in fridge was big and looked after!

Stayed here in early May for a few days, had a wonderful time. It's a good location in the north, not too far from anything (not that the Isle is big), really stunning view of the bay too as you're up high. Plenty of wind in the heat. We saw lots of cute baby rabbits about. Caravan was good but oddly hot constantly and had a weird smell, not a bad smell mind, but hot air has a smell believe it or not. We kept attempting to turn the boiler down/off, but no luck. Didn't bother us much, but worth mentioning.

Have just checked in for a family holiday in a caravan and must say, the worst caravan stay we have had. The room is absolutely filthy, not cleaned and absolutely run down. For the price charged this is just not up to standard. The caravan was absolutely covered in cobwebs and spent half our first day killing insects all around the inside of the caravan. This has not been cleaned for a long time. The gentlemen at the amusement arcade was amazing, being friendly, had a great chat and gave great recommendations for the Isle of Wight. The restaurant also had decent food and attention was quick but absolute let down by the caravan. Would definitely not be returning here again nor recommending

Absolute dive. Apart from a 5 minute walk to the beach, that’s about as good as it gets. Very busy with cars blasting up and down all day and most of the night too. Lorry’s arriving at 5am blasting up the road and over the ‘speed bump’ shaking our caravan. Toilets were abysmal with hair wrapped around every drain hole and spiders/bugs from 1993 still in there, food was burnt although we only ate once out of desperation. Thankfully we stayed in our touring caravan so we made use of our own toilet, shower and I cooked most evenings as I love to cook so I used fresh ingredients, cooked to perfection and served on clean plates with a smile 😊. All the facilities looked tired, there were broken bits of the playground, the back of the swimming pool area resembled a local council tip, the general upkeep was lacking some serious work to get it to a good standard and I even got challenged by a ‘groundskeeper’ for playing a bit of golf with my lad (I didn’t do any damage), yet my caravan and awning were situated in a chasm like the Grand Canyon. The staff were mostly young and inexperienced but pleasant enough. They lacked some basic manners but the old lady in the Nisa shop accused of us being thieves for merely taking things out of our basket for her to scan! Rude. We arrived having booked a fully serviced pitch and were directed to what can only be described as the ‘Ukraine’ experience. It was obviously where seasonal workers were located so no views, rough pitches and caravans strewn all over the place so we asked to be moved. When we challenged for a refund as we were now on a grass with hook up only, we were told no. Nice one Parkdean. We will never book with this company again. If you’re touring, go 5 minutes in either direction. There’s a lovely off grid site right on the beach down Rolls Hill. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. You have been warned.

Have a fantastic holiday here, the premium double wide caravan was amazing, everything we needed, the resort itself is a little dated but it's great place to bring your kids for a proper break, plenty to do and lots of activities. The onside shop is a bit limited but you can get most of your needs here, the chippy was great, good quality food at a fair price. The resort is clean and tidy and the staff are very friendly and helpful, would definitely return here

Parkdean Resorts Nodes Point Holiday Park on the Isle of Wight is a family-friendly camping park offering simple chalets with kitchens. It features an indoor pool, kids' programs, a sports court, and an adventure playground. The park is situated near Priory Beach and St Helens Beach, as well as the exclusive village of Bembridge and a ferry terminal from Portsmouth. Additionally, there's the Boathouse Bar and Restaurant on-site.
This was our second visit to nodes point and what a beautiful place it is with an idealic location for exploring the island. The staff are really helpful and on our visit this time they went above and beyond to help us when we decided to upgrade our accommodation. The touring pitch manager who was also on the reception desk when we arrived and was extremely helpful and the following day she checked we were happy with our upgrade. All staff are friendly approachable and helpful. My husband and I have often said we wouldn't go back to the same place twice as it's nice to experience different locations but nodes point is now our " go to place" for rest and relaxation. I would always recommend staying here and the lodge we stayed in for the week exceeded all of our expectations. It was located at the front of the park with less than a minute walk to the beach.

It was a last minute thing and we absolutely loved it and can't wait to return! The kids haven't stopped talking about it! I went on my own with my two kids aged 6 & 2. I'm not a driver either so that part was tricky as low season over the island so buses were less frequent so had to bottle it up and spend a lot on taxi from Hover and on our return also. But it is what it is. For that reason we didn't explore isle of Wight, but we come over often enough anyway so it didn't bother us. We had so much fun glamping it was our first experience and it was brilliant! Nodes Point Holiday Park was more than I imagined! The staff are super helpful and friendly, swimming pool is decent of course it has the usual swimming pool changing room grossness but that's expected, just please get your locks on one of them sorted! As there was no lock whatsoever! my two year old stood by the door waiting to go out of it to the pool and some older kid came slamming into it wacked her across the forehead giving her a right bruise and bump on her head! It took me some time to calm her down, I had to buy her a swim noodle at one point to try keep her happy in the pool as her bruise was hurting her, she didn't want to be there anymore after that but I tried to keep her in the pool so my son could enjoy his time in it. Because of that we did not go swimming again. The safari tents were well equipped, toilet block was close and they were always so clean which surprised me as that was one part of glamping I wasn't looking forward to. I'm a light sleeper so barely got any sleep as the wind and the birds were noisy the first night and then from our second night a nearby family decided it was okay to run around playing ball games outside at 10pm! they were a VERY LOUD family! But I didn't let lack of sleep ruin my experience. The playground was great, the entertainment was brilliant, the restaurant was decent. Being on my own I didn't try any alcoholic drinks so can't say how nice cocktails were or anything. The beach is walking distance which was so ideal! There was a few empty fields where people were playing rounders, cricket, tennis, football etc together which I thought was so lovely. The shop on site was no where near as expensive as I was dreading, it is well stocked with everything you'd need my only negative comment on it is there's no ramp access to it which must affect unable customers or parents with prams. The arcade machines need some maintenance! There's some submarine thing I think it was in the middle of the L shaped arcade which has safety notice on to wear seat belts from motion, my kids were very excited to see what it does, so strapped them in and it didn't go anywhere, no motion at all it was a shooting game I think if I remember correctly but wasted £2 as false hope but never mind. 2p machines kept getting stuck which I did speak to staff about. It was safe to say we only visited the arcade the once. But overall WE CAN'T WAIT TO RETURN! we are already looking at dates in the future, so see you again Nodes Point!

Our second time staying at Nodes Point but unfortunately the last. The location is spot on which is one of the main reasons we chose Nodes Point. We paid to bring or dog but unfortunately the only 'dog friendly' area was the very unwelcoming Harbour Bar - cold, damp, had to walk through the arcade to the main bar to get overpriced drinks. Could not have food from the main menu only from a limited menu served in takeaway boxes. I appreciate there's wildlife but in over 30 years camping/caravanning I have never seen a rat on a site .... this was a daily occurrence but even this isn't the reason we won't be returning, our dog is part of our family and on the odd night we use the on site facilities would like to sit somewhere comfortable and enjoy a not overpriced drink

Location was beautiful 😍 direct access to the beach, spotted red squirrels each morning, and had the most relaxing evening walks. We came across a wasp nest on our first day at the park, the park team were straight on it and had it sorted in around 3 hours so we could enjoy the rest of our time there sting free. The rooms could have been slightly better and looked spotless on their first appearance. However, the floors were rather sticky and grubby, but its to be expected with so much footfall over the year and being in a woodland setting with a beach close by too. Would a 10000000% stay here again, and can't wait to make my next booking.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 – Luxurious Caravan Stay with Stunning Beach Access! We recently stayed at Nodes Point Holiday Park and had an absolutely fantastic time as a family. Although we originally booked a safari tent, we upgraded to a caravan, and it was the best decision! The caravan was clean, modern, and beautifully set up with all the necessities and comforts — from a well-equipped kitchen to cozy beds and a lovely seating area. It truly felt like a home away from home. The park is in a perfect location — just steps away from St Helens Beach, which is quiet, scenic, and ideal for kids to play safely. We enjoyed relaxing walks, beach games, and peaceful sunsets. On-site facilities like the indoor pool, playground, and arcade kept the kids happy, and we also explored nearby attractions like The Needles Chairlift, Alum Bay, and Sandown Beach. Everything was within easy driving distance. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the entire park was clean, well-maintained, and family-friendly. We had such a memorable stay and will definitely return. ✅ Highly recommended for families looking for comfort, fun, and relaxation on the Isle of Wight.

Unbelievable stay. Booked a weekend away with my partner and daughter. The lodge we had was so nice! We went for one with a hot tub. The lodge was clean and the hot tub was amazing! We made the most of the lodge with a little one. We ate in the restaurant twice and had some drinks too as well as using the App for the takeaway food service. Loved the food! Shop on site catered for your needs. Staff were smart and polite. Graham was brilliant! Met Gayle the manager to let her know how impressed we were with our experience. Definitely coming back!

We were in an amazing lodge with a fabulous view of the harbour. We had decent weather so enjoyed the decking area. The accommodation was clean, tons of space and had a lovely an ensuite. Nice kitchen facilities. It was perfect. The grounds are quite nice where we were and it was walking distance to the beach. The bar / entertainment area was fine. We didn't use the pool so I can't comment on that. As a couple with no kids we had a great time.
Richard P — Google review
Supposedly a dog friendly site, this is far from the case, the clubhouse/restaurant does not have a corner where you can eat in the restaurant or have a drink with your unwelcome dog, this is the only site that does not accommodate, so if the weather is foul your stuffed, you can go in another bar with your dog, but the bar is closed, order food from the main bar, “oh sorry we can’t serve food in that bar” you can have a takeaway in a cardboard box? So much for a dog friendly site that charges you to take a dog in your own accommodation (motorhome) £60 for 10 day stay, not again.

Hiking area
National Trust - The Needles Headland & Tennyson Down offers an invigorating seven-mile hike with stunning views of the island. Along the way, you can explore a Cold War rocket test site, a 19th-century fort, and a monument dedicated to Alfred Lord Tennyson. The route also features a dog-friendly cafe for your furry companions.
I can't remember the last time I have been so impressed by a place. The whole coastline from Alum Bay to Compton Bay is such an impressive place in this beautiful world. I have bee there twice during my last holidays. The first time it was raining, not very heavily but it was extremely windy. So I was the only soul that was walking from the Needles to Freshwater Bay. Its s a beautiful walk you should do when visiting the Isle of Wight. On the first day the clouds were hanging so low, that the Tennyson Monument was fading in the clouds the closer I got. The clouds were blown up the cliffs, it was an amazing feeling of freedom that overcame myself that I will surely never forget.
Oliver L — Google review
From the car park at the bottom you can get a wider further view of the needles and there is a small amusement park. The walk up to the museum and the best view point is around 45 minutes-1 hour walk. The only parking at the top is for staff and disabled personal. There is also a bus that goes right up to the top. Average pricing with the kids price being around £8-10 and the adult prices around £15-17

Scenic area of chalk downland with great views over Freshwater Bay, the Solent and beyond. Reminiscent of the Seven Sisters in Sussex, but on a smaller scale, and much quieter even on a summer day. Easy walking with a clear grass path, and benches along the way. We started at Freshwater and walked to the Tennyson Monument, but the walk extends all the way to The Needles Headland for those with more time.
Andrew T — Google review
Great walk around a national trust park. Shame the old battery was closed. Good views of the needles from a dedicated viewing point- otherwise heavily fenced off.
Toby K — Google review
Very enjoyable walk, not difficult, not many people at all, especially when compared to the zoo and crowds of Needles. Lots of nice views and places to stop and enjoy.
Vlad K — Google review
The Needles, including this trail is a pretty area, not breathtaking. If you have been to the Seven Sisters, Cliffs of Moher, or the Twelve Apostles you will probably find this area underwhelming. The area has a nice walk with some lovely views and family activities on the outskirts, but it’s nice not amazing. There’s an asphalt path, stairs, and nearby traditional trails if you choose.
Allen R — Google review
One of my favourite walks. Stunning views as you wander across the cliffs. The hills can be steeper than they look so wear good footwear. If you're heading to towards The Needles it can take around an hour depending on if you're taking photos etc. You'll spot lots of wildlife on your way too including birds, bunnies and cows. The dog loves running around up here too. The local car park nearby is tiny and you risk not getting a space, I can't suggest a near enough alternative either.
Alex N — Google review
A lovely place to walk. Park at Tennyson Down National Trust Car Park, but note there is only space for around 12-15 cars maximum. Walk back down the road, turn left immediately at the map and follow the track uphill. It takes around 30 minutes to get to Tennyson Down, 45 mins to get to The Needles headland. Lots of rare butterfly species and a few birds of prey. The views on a sunny day are spectacular.

Beautiful beach with safe shoreline! Perfect to go with kids as the shoreline extends upto middle but however depends on the weather and time of the year.
Stephy A — Google review
It's small and quaint. Nice walks along a flat promenade, bus shelters to sit and eat your chips or have an ice cream. If you feel energetic, you can walk all the way along the Promenade to Sandown. Outside of this, there is really only one way in and out of the seafront, and that is via a quite steep road. Car Parking for such a small area is usually quite good, although, like anywhere else, when it is very busy, parking can be a challenge.

The beach is very rocky, get your flip flops or swimming footwear ready. Pleasant staff and reasonable prices for sun lounges. I would not recommend the sea bike. Almost everyone going on it complained as the bikes were not working properly. The seafront is stunning and it's worth visiting the arcades. Great fun playingcrazy golf. Plenty of parking and ice cream parlours- all reasonably priced too.

The center features a swimming pool, sports hall, climbing wall, and gym, making it an ideal place to work off indulgent holiday meals. Visitors can also appreciate the friendly staff and convenient booking system for various activities.
As a regular visitor to the Freshwater area in recent years, I use the the swimming pool at the West Wight Sports Centre two or three times a week while I'm visiting. It is brilliant. Crystal clear water with not too much chlorine. Friendly staff who make sure the lanes aren't too crowded. Yes, it might look a bit dated compared to the latest designs but it's perfect for club and recreational swimmers alike and it's the cleanliness and quality of the water that's important. Changing rooms are kept clean and tidy. What more could you want. I tend to use several pools around the country from Scotland to the Midlands and South. West Wight is the one I most look forward to visiting each year.

This is only a review of the climbing wall and not the overall facilities. I bought two climbing wall experience's in December for a Xmas present. Spoke to the sports centre about booking a session and was told they would put me on a WhatsApp chat asking when the climbers instructors would be free. I never got a reply over 7 months. I made contact at least three times. Finally asked for my money back.

This is a great, local sports centre. As an occasional user of the swimming pool when visiting the Isle of Wight, this is a great venue. Centrally located in the heart of Freshwater with ample parking onsite and nearby. The staff are friendly and helpful. Booking a swim slot is straightforward. Changing rooms are clean and tidy. The pool itself is excellent - 25 metres long and 3 metres deep at the deep end. Also the water isn't over chlorinated like some pools so you don't have that 'swimming in a bath of bleach' experience. Haven't had an experience of the community centre aspects of the centre but there's a lot on offer. Looking forward to visiting again.

The Bay Colwell is a charming resort of cottages and beach houses located near Colwell Bay on the Isle of Wight. The accommodations can sleep between 4 and 6 people, with amenities such as indoor heated swimming pool, indoor soft play area, WiFi access, welcome pack, and games. The cottages feature stylish bedrooms including a master bedroom with a super king-size double bed that can be converted into twin beds.
We had a little stay Away with our dog for my birthday, it was perfect! I've loved every minute of it. We stayed in one of the luxury cottages with a hot tub, pet friendly, the only thing we had an issue with was the parking, where everyone has larger cars these days it was very tight to get into the parking space because there's brick wall one side and raised wooden sleepers the other that sit perfectly in a blind spot... Our little doggo at first was very interested in the hot tub but also very quickly got over it, all the fresh sea air tired him out! Again loved it

Currently staying here for 3rd year running, and the first time I haven't been super happy. We have booked with 2 dogs, but the garden with the patio furniture in (chalet number 17) is not enclosed, which means we cannot sit outside with the dogs. There is a *tiny* bit of shingle at the 'back' garden, but not enough room for us to sit out in. For now we have made a sort of makeshift barrier with the patio chairs, but will have to buy a beach windbreak or such and try to use that. Everything else is perfect as usual, but having booked with dogs, we expected a more secure patio area.

Lovely place, really friendly and helpful staff! with the beach 5 mins away and a nice coastal walk to the pub it's in a perfect location! The holiday home was modern, warm, clean and tidy. The best part for me and the Mrs was the hot tub, it was Immaculate and ready to jump in as soon as we got there! We were treated to 2 clear nights and the view of the starry sky along with a glass of Champagne definitely set a romantic atmosphere! ;) will definitely be staying here again without a doubt!

Just got back after a week's stay here. On arrival the receptionist gave us a map and wrote down the code for the gate for access to the beach this proved to be incorrect and we had to walk all the way around to reach the beach as the reception was closed to ask them, thankfully another guest informed us of the correct number for our journey back. Unfortunately someone in the vicinity of our cottage was smoking drugs so we were unable to have our windows and doors open at the hottest days of the year so far. We were unable to figure out who it was so therefore unable to report it . It usually happened in the evening however a few occasions we had come back after being out for the day and you could smell it in the cottage. Possibly you could think of having some sort of evening patrol to ensure this doesn't happen on site. The cottage itself was basic but was only really needed as a base. It was clean and tidy . The shower could have done with a shower mat or hand rail it was extremely slippery when in use The parking is very tight especially for bigger cars. You could also have wi-fi in the cottages not just in reception/lounge areas. A few positives lovely location, with shops nearby , comfortable beds, pool was great when it was open (only wished it was open earlier than 10am) , and the staff we encountered were very friendly . Reasonable for the cost. Clean and tidy. Bonus was having a dishwasher and washing machine Would consider staying again as all in all it wasn't the sites fault for other people's unreasonable behaviour. The other issues were snags that could easily be rectified. Thank you for our stay
Kelly S — Google review
Overall: Liked the accommodation but smaller flaws add up The cottage we stayed in was very nice. Designed and equipped well. Generally clean, cosy atmosphere and looks recently refurbished. Main issues were, firstly, no wifi (nor good mobile data coverage). It’s only available 9-5 at reception. Secondly, no hand or shower soap provided even after asking. A few smaller issues like minor stains on glasses and bedsheet, faulty kitchen tap handle, potentially lack of privacy as windows between neighbouring cottages very close (saw something I would rather not have). Felt like the reception / lounge area was not the most inviting and not up to the same standard as the cottage. It was quite dark and there were constant 80s music videos playing on the TV. Staff were relatively friendly. Location is not recommended if you don’t drive. There are not many places to eat or things to do immediately around. The buses are not convenient and you will be restricted. Location aside, the place has potential if a few improvements are made!

We (2 adults and 2 dogs) stayed at Away Resorts The Bay, Colwell in June, having previously stayed with the same company at St Helens resort on IoW. We received a phone call to say our cottage was ready for us 3 hours early, which was really helpful. The place was clean and spotless. Well laid out and had everything we needed (except scissors - none of these places ever have scissors!!) I found the bed a bit hard for me, but that's personal preference. The hot tub was wonderful, but incredibly hot and unadjustable. It was lovely to have a front and back garden, which allowed us respite from the endless sunshine. We had taken some camping chairs with us, so used these in the back garden. The site is literally a 5 minute walk down to the seafront, with a coded side gate making the journey easy. The only downside was no WiFi, which would have been a nice touch. Really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely revisit in future.

Very small site. Very small (swimming)pool. No cakes in coffee lounge just costa. Bungalow could be lovely but not clean dust on everything floor hadn't been moped in ages. Items missing in kitchen and needed to get extension leads for lamps. Staff helpful to a point. Won't go back to this site.

Firstly the main reason for such a low rating is mainly lack of cleanliness and facilities at this park. Stayed at The Bay Colwell booked direct through Away Resorts as we have used them before and was more than happy with our accommodation and service but unfortunately this time round we are very disappointed! The accommodation is not quite as it states, we booked a cottage with hot tub (cottage 42) and on walking up into the accommodation I was pleasantly surprised until I started looking around and finding little faults with mainly cleanliness. The cottage itself is modern and has most basic equipment needed when staying for a short break. Negatives were there were limited kitchen utensils, pots and pans so make sure if you intend on cooking you bring extra, and maybe some cleaning products as you will need them if you are alittle fussy when it comes down to cleanliness. The sofas were disgusting filthy and when you sit on them you sink so low you may as well be sitting on the floor and I recommend they are replaced! The floor was grubby and lots of fluff and hair throughout and the double bed was terrible it was like trying to sleep on aload of springs that had broke and the bed was ready to collapse at any time if you move to much. This accommodation is a fair distance from any well known eateries/shops and you do feel limited on what to eat when it comes to dining out if you prefer, the WiFi is also non existent even though it states there is WiFi this is FALSE! I could go on with more negatives but the list would be endless. The positives is very few being modern accommodation, hot tub very clean and entertainment saviour, the bay has some beautiful views that’s really it I would not recommend this resort if you want to be close to or in the heart of any form of liveliness or want a doing holiday with everything close by lastly the BIG one is CLEANLINESS biggest NEGATIVE! Drastic action needs to be taken with regards to this. Overpriced for service provided

Newtown Creek Anchorage is a hidden gem on the Isle of Wight, perfect for nature lovers and boating enthusiasts alike. This serene spot offers a delightful circular walk through the island's only National Nature Reserve, where you can immerse yourself in diverse habitats like saltmarshes, mudflats, and wildflower meadows. As you stroll along, keep your eyes peeled for an array of wildlife including migratory birds, butterflies, and even red squirrels.
Beautiful anchorage that provided us with a lot of shelter, we spotted a seal, lots of water foul. It was busy in the day time but no issues. National trust came round asking for donations, we donated £5 not sure what others donate but they seemed happy with that. Anchored in mud, held well in 25 kts with 20-25m scope all chain.

This is a lovely place to drop anchor and chill out for a while. There are mooring boys but there's a small charge, ( and a rib will be round to collect rather quickly) to hook onto these. Once in the creek, the water goes very shall very quickly, our 37ft beneteau scraped the sandbanks a couple of times so be aware. Great place to have lunch and go for a swim, a beautiful location but as such it can get rather busy !!

What a wonderful place to spend the night whilst sailing with the Visually Impaired Sailing Association. So calm and peaceful, with just the sunset, distant birds, and a handful of other yachts for company. And best of all, the National Trust kindly let us stay for free.

This is by far my very favourite anchorage in the whole of the Solent! It’s beautiful, peaceful, not so busy (except on the weekend, bank holidays, etc.). You have to be careful coming in, as the channel is tight and you really have to pay attention to the transit, especially when the tide is in action. There is a voluntary donation if you stay overnight and the guy will come in the morning on a rib to collect.

Moored up here for a bite to eat. Stunning location, wonderful scenery, calm with seals bobbing a swimming by. Lovely.

Very quiet anchorage, close to nature. Have seen seals and white tailed eagles here. Can get very busy at weekends and holidays but can be very peaceful at other times
