Gorgeous pub with stunning scenery and even better service. We were made to feel right at home. The food was lovely and tasted fresh at reasonable prices. We would definitely come again :)

What a fabulous pub, great menu and friendly efficient staff. Prices are good and the portions are generous. A good selection of vegetarian food and plenty of beers and wines to choose from. It is a good idea to book especially at weekend and if you want to dine indoors - there is a great beer garden but it cools down fast on an evening

Beautiful peaceful location with lovely view, tucked away in Notton near the sea. Good sandwiches, not great burgers. We had lunch two days here. Lunch sandwiches are really nice but they missed our order and after 45 minutes I went to the bar and they brought them. The manager was really sweet and apologied 10 times and offered free drinks etc. which we didn't want. We went back for lunch today and had burgers. Not that impressed with burger quality. We specifically went back cause the food was really nice yesterday. Burgers tasted like supermarket ready made ones. The shape of them also confirmed it. Bar people for ordering weren't the friendliest!

Thanks for a fab birthday! We are an LGBTQI+ couple and booked a couple of nights at the Inn for my birthday as a mini-getaway whilst visiting family who live on the island. We noted the occasion in our booking and were given a beautiful room with a huge window overlooking the sea (this might have been a coincidence, but was lovely nonetheless!) The breakfast choices for veggies were good with an equal amount of meat options. It was also quite generously portioned with juice/coffee/cereal as well as the cooked menu. The staff were lovely. They let us leave our bags downstairs when we arrived several hours early, gave me a little birthday treat on the night we ate at the pub, and even let us hide out from some unruly pub guests in the garden when we didn't feel safe with them knowing we were staying - they handled that situation very professionally! Overall I'd say this is a great spot for a quaint and quiet experience with lovely well-equipped rooms and a cosy feel.

A very nice pub with excellent attentive service. Foodwise, I'm not sure burgers are made on site, as when I asked if the burger can be made medium rare, I was told they would ask. But in the end it was well done. Tasty, but I would have thought such a place would be a bit more flexible.

Didn't stay so Can't comment on the rooms. We popped in for an evening meal as we were staying locally and had to wait for the young lad at the service station to finish his hugely important task of fiddling with a tablet to be told we could go straight to the bar to order drinks and sit anywhere... scored some drinks £14 for a cider and a single g&t. When we went in for food, we weren't asked about reservations and told to sit anywhere. Very direct service told about missing items on the menu and left to decide £18 for an average plate of scampi and chips I felt was overpriced as were the drinks, decided to try dessert, the banana split on the specials menu was not exactly a banana split and the Baileys cheesecake was still partially frozen and buried underneath the rest of the sweet not served in a proper long dish either pretty poorly executed, partners apple crumble was clearly tinned apple with cinnamon thrown over it and warmed up with a fairly decent crumble topping still a bit cheeky at £8.50, overall this place blatantly cashes in on its location. Could be a charming local pub with hearty food but is a restaurant with a bar instead that definitely has idea's above its station.

Stopped off here as a final meal before leaving the Isle of Wight. My mother in law had been recommended this place as a great place for a meal and amazing views. Food was very good - had the southern fried chicken burger and fries which was very tasty and messy to eat! Service was very good at the restaurant with the waiter being courteous and attentive. The pub gets very busy so I would recommend booking. Also views were absolutely amazing!

Amazing food with plenty of choice all with decent size portions I had mixed grill, my partner had steak. The views are amazing from the beer garden. Play area for the kids and they were able to cater for my gluten free daughter with had cheese burger with gluten free bun. Staff are very polite and helpful.

Stopped off here after vising carisbrooke Castle. Dog friendly inside and out. Garden area, patio and conservatory room with spectacular views. Choice and quality of food was excellent. Good choice of drinks including local ales and non alcoholic drinks. Friendly staff and nicely decorated.

Went from Southampton to the isle for a day with my partner and we had chose this place for our lunch. What a good experience ! We had cambert cheese and scallops for starters, mix grill and pork belly for mains, creme brulee and blondie for desserts. Everything was delicious, we definitely will be back!

The Sunday roast is perfection—tender meat, crispy potatoes, and rich gravy. The katsu chicken is a must-try—crispy, flavorful, and delicious. Staff are warm and welcoming, making every visit a joy.

Very warm welcome by the owner. Lots of open table space. Full of style and caricature a really well presented old fashioned feeling English pub-restaurant. Very well done to all the staff. The food was excellent too.

Popped in for Sunday lunch which was ok. Drinks were fine also. Deserts were abit hit and miss, my daughter had waffles which were that hard she couldn't cut them, but yhe treacle sponge was lovely..

Came here around 1.30pm and it was totally dead which was surprising considering how busy the villiage was, now I see why. We ordered a simple panini, chicken fajitas and cheesy chips. After 45 minutes of waiting (remember the place is empty) the waitress finally comes out to announce there has been electrical issues in the kitchen, another 10 minutes or so we were served with probably one of the most disgusting meals I've been presented since living on the island. The panini was stale and horrid, the chips look like they had just been left in the cooker during the 'issues' The fajitas were ok or at least the chicken was, the bread part was more like a hard taco shell. For £50 this was absolutely less than impressive and I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone

The service was amazing…however outdone by the quality of the food and the portions are good value for money. Would definitely recommend a visit. NOTE: Council parking just down the road

Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend this pub for food. There was only one server for everything on a Saturday (orders, drinks, running the food, and clearing up) and the food was poor quality. I ordered the ‘sausage, mash, peas and caramelised gravy’ - it was the cheapest possible sausages with zero taste and Bisto gravy at best. No one came to check on our meals. It felt like they were just cutting costs. There are plenty of high quality Island pubs where I would rather spend my money!

We booked very last minute for our anniversary and were greeted by very friendly staff. We took a long time to decide what we wanted and the waitress was so patient with us. We had the salt and pepper chicken strips for a starter; pie & mash and sausages and mash for mains. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. Would definitely return again soon :) thank you to the lovely lady who served us this evening.

I booked for sunday lunch here having flicked through reviews, thought it seemed nice and the food looked good. My first red flag should have been the availability on a Sunday when all the other well rated pubs were full. Our arrival was fine, friendly girls serving. As more and more people came in it seemed to be unorganised and chaotic. We ordered a small for my son with one meat, I had a duo and my partner had a trio. The wait for food was long and when the food arrived, you couldn't tell whose was who as the portions were a joke. The meat looked old and it was the thinnest slices, cold yorkshires and cold potatoes that both were not clearly prepared in the kitchen and were likely pre made. Nice choice of veg, but again likely microwaved as it went cold quickly. My son (3) had lamb and gagged because the lamb was so chewy. Plenty of other people were annoyed by the wait time and the food across the restaurant was far below average. I felt sorry for the serving staff who were having to deal with the errors made by kitchen/managers. Really annoyed as we love a roast and wanted to kick off our holiday with a decent roast on a Sunday. We ate the food as the likelihood at gone half 2 on a Sunday of finding anywhere else was likely slim. Left pretty unhappy at spending money on below average food. Hopefully the new management read these reviews and rectify the problems!

Hadn’t visited in almost 19 years. A special place for me and my partner to return to for lunch💗 Welcomed by the lovely staff and enjoyed such a nice steak, cooked to perfection. Absolutely delicious. Love the pub and the setting. It’s cosy, inviting and just like we remembered it.

Felt very lucky to get a table and even luckier with the food. Stone bass came beautifully presented with asparagus and the steak and ale pie was with greens and the creamiest mash. A rhubarb and custard choice bun to share was a perfect ending. Great beers made it a perfect dinner after the Robert Hooke trail. Highly recommended!

I do not have words to describe the food that Sean Jeffers magics up in this beautiful pub. Consistently excellent, I was here (once again) for my 50th birthday and genuinely cannot think of any restaurant in the world I’d rather have been at. The beef crumpet should be world famous - but the modesty, friendliness and unpretentiousness is what makes the Red Lion so fantastic. A brilliant pub that serves the best food on the island. Exemplary!

Flawlessly executed classic British pub food in an 11th century classic building. Highly deserving of its Michelin Guide recommendation, each dish was served to perfection and at a reasonable cost with excellent service. Bookings recommended, some parking available on site.

Really good meal here. An upgrade on the Traditional pub fare and everything super delicious. Staff really friendly and the pub had a homely welcoming feel. I had the beef crumpet and halibut. Convinced my 9 year old to have a cheese soufflé for starter and it’s safe to say she’s a convert!! Kids menu portions were generous and desserts delicious. Really happy to have found this place ☺️ It’s top of my list for the next IOW visit

Family friendly pub and restaurant in the heart of the Islands southern countryside. Excellent garden and childrens play area for warmer days and a good walkers pub, with several footpath's taking you right to the pub. Good bar selection and plenty of food options too. Plenty of interior space and yet still cosy on colder days.

Food is not as good as expected. Kid’s menu is too salty even for grownups. My little one can only have peas, bread and milk. We left the rest of the food. But my boy likes the playground very much and it kept him entertained. It’ll be even better if there were no broken bits in the baby’s area. We have to figure out other food after having lunch here.

Me and my husband just had a delicious Sunday roast. It's the best I've ever had. I do love a Carvery. Meat was tender, lovely choice of veg and trimmings and the gravy was rich and tasty. Staff couldn't be more helpful. Would love to have again, but unfortunately we are from the mainland, bit of a trek for Sunday dinner.

Having stayed here for one night while visiting the Isle of Wight, I would highly recommend The Chequers Inn whether you're looking to have a meal or stay overnight. The highlight for the children was the play area. They spent hours playing outside surrounded by the beautiful landscape and nearby horses. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, and you could see they enjoyed working here. The family room was very comfortable, spacious and beautifully decorated. They have a variety of food available at breakfast and the location was excellent. We can't wait to return here.

Great place if you have young kids as it is heavily focussed on entertaining little ones. Very good play area and a kids menu. Plenty of free parking available. I found the service a bit slow and felt like we had been forgotten about. I could also overhear the staff moaning about various customers. The food was however very good. One of the best meals I have had for quite some time. I wouldn't go back though as it really is just like a wacky warehouse but with better food. I will leave it to the younger families.

There is a table service here and the staff are friendly. The menu is good and the portions generous. I had a Ceaser Salad and the chicken and bacon was warm. My wife had a special risotto but it wasn't cooked brilliantly and seemed a little thick. The puddings were good and they have a really impressive kids area with lots of play equipment and a wooden climbing ship. The pub is in the middle of two major roads and there isn't really anywhere nearby to visit. They have a campsite but we didn't use it so I can't comment on the facilities available.

Easy to get to, lots of parking. Food was pretty good, had the steak. Managed to seat all 10 of us around a big table easily in a cool dining area out back. The outdoor play area was amongst the best my nephews had ever seen due to the size and underground tunnels. Dog friendly so she was welcome to hang out with us.

Good pub. Large spacious pub for both sitting indoors and outdoors. The outdoor has a nice view where you can see the lambs and mutton roaming about. There's also a children's play area convenient for the children. Our food did not take too long to arrive, I ordered the Sun Inn's Burger, which is their homemade patty or signature burger. It was alright, not the best. The chips were very good, fat and crunchy. My meal also came with salad. Others at my table ordered pasta, fish and chips. We asked for chips to be removed and salad given instead, which they honoured. They have ketchup and sauces as a sachet, but problem is when you start using a lot of them, it becomes a mess of open sachets. I am happy for the portion of the meal as it was filling and satisfactory, exactly money well spent. You can take away the left over food you cannot finish. For a pub meal, I would say this is exceptional. Drinks prices are good, I ordered pineapple juice, which came in a high ball glass, tall glass. You can also have drinks in the drinking area next to pub cashier, if you don't want to eat in family area. The only issue is the inside was hot, sitting in the inner side close to the windows was quite hot. Unfortunately the aircon did not have a longer cable to reach us. Music volume was quiet. I guess Monday was not a busy day for them. We dined here mid July 2025 Monday. Unfortunately they were not selling a lot of food on their menu because they didn't have them in stock, which was a shame. Total price of our food (excluding drinks) for 5 people came to £85. Would I recommend this place? Yes, it is a pub, and I would recommend over other restaurants in the Freshwater sea side area. Because their prices are good. Portion of food was good, taste good as well. I would have given 5 stars, but because they didn't serve some of their dishes due to stock.

Staff were friendly and helpful; food was freshly cooked but still came quickly; good range of beers on tap - one priced less than £5 a pint!! We had the lasagne, scampi and fish and chips - traditional pub food at a reasonable price - sensible sized portions. Definitely worth a visit - westerly views across the fields to the sea, are gorgeous in the sunshine.

Short version quick view over; The food was shocking. Would not recommend had been there a couple of years ago and now it is just a shell of its former self the view stunning the tables were okay a bit sticky. Don’t come! Service; The service was okay but also shocking to a point. They were polite when ordering but upon paying which is before ordering (not unheard of nowadays) they seemed to be uninterested. They brought the food over having forgotten something which was immediately brought over so that was fine. Then after being brought over no one had came to check it was okay and for an £80 bill it is just disappointing and if they had came over they would have been made aware of the issues. When searching for someone they could not be found and not wanting the food to get cold I had went to eat my terrible but warm food. Yes warm it seems to me that it’s just microwaved maybe we had been waiting to eat as we looked for someone to send it back to but even when first brought and trying it, it was still just warm. Food; The food was the worst part overall, a bit pricey for small ish portions menu did not reflect the food such as the spicy wings had not just no spice but in fact almost no flavour resembling a Tesco pre packaged wing. Blue cheese was good seemed fresh. Salad good variety bigger than the actual food which is not a good sign. Lasagne was the worst I have ever eaten it had no tomato of any kind very oily overcooked pasta and a terrible flavour like old left over a couple of nights oil which had been sat in a tub of musky socks. Would not order! The prawns were a minuscule portion good sauce okay prawns. Chicken satay had no satay were more of a frozen chicken skewer from Iceland. Wouldn’t recommend. Overall I would say maybe come here for drinks or a scoop of ice cream at most. Atmosphere; We had went on a day where there was a live band so it was loud but there was very few people so it seemed a bit much for the noise level to people ratio when ordering the waiter had to lean in a make a cone around his ear just too much I would say. Overall I would say possibly with a band free night it may be nicer as it other than that was a quiet chilled environment.

After hearing such good reviews we came for a midweek lunch and it certainly didn't disappoint!! I had pie of the day which was Turkey and Leek and I can honestly I've never had a pie with so much filling!!! It was beautiful but I was definitely defeated by it. So if you want decent home cooked food with excellent portions don't hesitate to visit 😁 Thank you very much and I look forward to coming back soon

When I made to booking I added a request for the meals to be served in lipped plates or bowls as three of the guests were blind . Thank you so much for fulfilling the request it allowed them to relax and enjoy your wonderful roast without fear of everything ending up on the table.Well done we will definitely be back. Very happy that there was room in the bar area to sit for our meal, otherwise the live singer/guitarist previously mentioned would have been too loud for conversation

🍻 Cosy Pub with Great Vibes – Perfect Rainy Day Stop! ☕️ We were visiting Isle of Wight and popped into this lovely vintage pub on a rainy day, just hoping for a hot chocolate — and ended up staying for food and fun! The interior is cosy and full of charm. We had chicken wings, chicken satay skewers, and hot chocolate — everything was delicious. We even played darts and really enjoyed the relaxed, friendly atmosphere. A great spot to unwind – highly recommended if you’re in the area!

Our first meal back at The Portland since it reopened following the tragic fire — and wow, what a comeback! The décor is stunning, the food was absolutely fabulous, and the atmosphere was everything we remembered and more. We’d highly recommend stopping by for a drink or a meal whenever you can. It’s truly the best place on the island. We live just outside London and visit the Isle of Wight most weekends, and The Portland is always the highlight of our trips!

Regularly eat here and the food is always great! They'll go out of their way to appease vegan and other diets. Ribs are to die for & great service. Well recommended and parking is free nearby.

Went for Sunday roast, we had the light bites which were filling, not cheap, but not expensive. The service was a bit ropey but that was due to the waitress being new. Food was quality, would go again. No parking though

We had a fabulous dinner at this little gem of a pub tonight. It’s dining / bar mix is perfect and the food is exceptional.

The environment is really cosy,warm,comfortable.Music is pleasant! Besides,salmon salad is heavy and delicious,vegetable soup and wine is palatable too. Nice restaurant,best service and food!

Just had a lovely meal here as a family. Not just any old pub food, it was very tasty and well presented. The pub itself is very clean and traditional, staff are very friendly and helpful

Visited for a meal before catching the ferry back to the main land. Lovely food and very convenient for the ferry crossing with good Gluten Free options (fish and chips was delicious). Service was fine but could have been better.

We stayed 5 nights at this lovely inn in July and then moved onto East Sussex, Kent, Suffolk and Yorkshire - a 5-week trip in total from Perth, Western Australia. Of all the fine pub meals we enjoyed on our holiday the absolute standout dinner was the Fishbourne Inn’s Sunday Nut Roast with all the trimmings! So delicious, just had to share this 😋

I stayed at this guest house for 2 nights, staff polite and friendly. The room I was in was 505 it was ok but I don't think it was suitable for me as I'm 6ft 6ins, I did get a lovely nights sleep. The breakfast was the best I've had in ages cooked to perfection, it reminded me of my mum's cooked breakfast. All in all a lovely place to stay. If I'm ever on the Isle of Wight I'll be staying here again, but maybe not in room 505. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Regards P.

Nice pub but 45 minute wait for food and not sure why as so many people already had theirs. The lady at the bar said they had 30 breakfasts before us to send out but we’d counted 6 before ours came! Also failed to tell us the correct place to sit with our dog so we got moved, after the waitress had already come up to us once to give us cutlery - the sign about dogs being in the bar was on the floor outside. We found one of the waitresses quite rude and abrupt. Also don’t know if they are aware but they have two different versions of their early breakfast menu out with differing descriptions

My partner and I had 5 marvellous days at this perfectly situated Inn, it's only 1 minute from the Portsmouth to Ryde ferry. The staff, especially Dave, and Danielle were very welcoming and attentive to all our needs. Even going to the trouble of sending an article I had left to us within a couple of days. This was our first time on the island and needed more time to see all the sites, so when we return The Fishbourne Inn will be our first stop. We'll certainly tell all our friends.

This pub was very disappointing! On arrival barmaid very unfriendly. no eye contact , no welcome. Beer was flat and warm Soup was watered down and bland . The sandwich was fabulous and the best chips! Toilet was blocked and no paper! Reported it but not sure it was of any concern to the barmaid . On departure, no eye contact no farewell just stood there with arms crossed! ! Beautiful pub but the whole experience was very disappointing!

As islander I feel cheated,We took friends there today prior to their ferry trip home.The ploughmans meal , lunch , was 2 small slices of bread, 2 small slices ham and one of cheese accompanied by a quantity of salad and pickles. The sandwiches our friend had were delicious she said. As we left there was no goodbye from the bar, even though a barman was in full view. Sadly feel people not important,just financial bottoms on chairs. We have not eaten meals there in Winter perhaps the ambience improves then . I hope so.

Such a lovely location, great seating outside and inside, however really poor service and questionable food. A couple of our party was running late, which we informed the staff, however they went on to ask us several more times, when they would be here (we was ordering drinks 🍷 and it was not busy). When they arrived, we were seated on two separate tables, which could have easily been put together. After rushing us to be seated, then took a while to take our food order (so what was the rush). I had the cod, it was lovely (have this if you go, nothing else), a few friends had the rump steak which was chewy and not edible, a couple of friends couldn’t eat it and one exchanged it for a chicken dish. Rump steak should never be chewy and to be told it always is and dismissed was unacceptable….source better quality steaks! Also, i really don’t know how my friends ate the cauliflower dish, it looked like a burnt lump of charcoal but we were all hungry by this point. Again, staff took a long time to come take our dessert order (even less busy at the point), then they proceeded to bring us the bill even though we hadn’t had the pudding yet! Rushed, not bothered, rushed, not bothered….make up your mind! Nice touch that they brought out 2 birthday ladies a Birthday plate with a small chocolate pudding on, would have been better before bringing puddings out (just a suggestion)! Please Check your bill… steaks were priced wrongly and we were charged more than what it stated on the menu, drinks added to the bill which we definitely didn’t have (a group of ladies aren’t Ale drinkers) and madness to the point, the member of staff had to refund us money. Overall experience was very poor and disappointing. Such a shame for such a beautiful location!

Great location right next to the ferry. Lunchtime menu was good value and a welcome financial respite from an otherwise expensive menu. Service was poor but the food was ok.

Wow is all I can say about this place. One of the best meals we've had in recent years. The food was the best we've ever eaten on the whole of the Isle of Wight, and matched only by a few places we've eaten at. Add to this young staff, who were helpful, polite, and couldn't do enough for you made it a superb experience. The location above the ferry terminal gives interesting views if you want to sit outside. This is one I'd definitely book a table in advance.

We didn’t eat and only had one drink each however the ladies who served us were incredibly kind and wonderful. Dog water for our puppy given and great friendly service. Special shout to Ronnie! What is not to love!! Thank you.

What a lovely find. We were early for the ferry and didn’t want to wait in the terminal, but the terrace is right above. Charming staff who were also very helpful Good views,very clean and lovely vibe. The only shame was there was no breakfast on offer when we got there, but the tea was good and the banana bread divine.

Lovely mothers day meal here. Very good service, caring and accommodating staff. Great views! The lamb shank was especially lovely ! This is the second time I have eaten here - the first was for breakfasts which were fantastic too! Only reason not a 5 was that the roast could’ve done with more veggies. Came for a low key family meal. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Service a bit slow- drinks came after our meal and had to be chased up, as did one of the dishes, and the pudding that 3 of us us had was missing several of ingredients, which were brought out when asked for.A bit pricey, and confusion amongst the staff whether my blue light discount could be used or not (it could, but not all staff aware). Dont like the fact a service charge is automatically applied. Location and staff absolutely lovely, service and quality of food a bit disappointing.

Our last 2 visits to the crab and lobster this year have not been pleasant. Our 1st visit, the food took a while to come out and was over priced for what it was. The fish pie lacked chunks of fish, there were a lot of dirty tables around us. We booked this visit. On our second visit we walked in hoping to get a table for 2, we were told that they were down a member of staff in the kitchen so we’re only taking 50% of bookings. Inside was empty and there were quite a few tables outside. We asked if we could sit outside to eat or drink (lovely sunny day) and were told that both indoors and outdoors were fully booked. Staff seemed uninterested to seat us or want any more business and turned us away. Our friend called up later that week of which crab and lobster confirmed that they don’t take bookings outside. I’m not sure why the staff would lie to customers? I was 6 months pregnant on our last visit and even a drink outside would have been nice in the heat but we were told this wasn’t possible. I’ve been coming to the C&L for years but never again. Attitudes of the staff were completely unhelpful and unwelcoming. Car parking can be difficult so get read to walk and alongside their recent 1 star hygiene rating (which I only saw afterwards)…I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this pub for many reasons. Lovely views and walk down to the beach but that‘s it.

Only write reviews when unhappy with the experience or have found a gem, this place is an absolute gem and should be shouted about. Great service and delicious hot and well presented plates. The Parsnip and Mushroom soup was so good we got the recipe from the kitchen. The three large Sausage and Bubble & Squeak dish was fantastic, others had the Pie, and Ham Egg and chips that could not be finished. Would fully recommend.

Saw this place in a holiday magazine. And wanted to try it. One hell of a journey to get there, and some of the narrowest roads I've ever encountered. But it was worth it. Had an excellent meal outside overlooking the sea, up on the cliffs. Wonderful views . Staff all friendly and helpful. Drinks fair priced. As was the food which was homemade and delicious. The place itself is looking rather tired and in need of some tlc As are the toilets .

Had Sunday dinner, waited 50 minutes. Roast pork had been cooked, sliced and left to dry so became tough, broccoli was blanched and was too hard to cut with a dinner knife. Conversations held on the car park confirmed that if the establishment was to continue serving food like this they would lose the custom of the locals as well as the tourists as word would get around. Hopefully the establishment takes heed of the comments and produces food edible for all including the elderly that frequent the pub. Admittedly we were very disappointed.

Our group of 10 people stopped here for an after dinner drink at sunset. As we have noticed in most local establishments, all orders must be placed and paid for by the customer at the bar. The staff was very pleasant, drinks fine and the ocean view from the outdoor seating magnificent. I really enjoyed a short walk on the beach accessible by fairly steep and uneven steps. The small parking space by the inn was full, we had to park on the street and walk quite a distance.

Nice pub on the coast. Food selection varied with the emphasis on sea food. Service was very good and friendly. Saw a few meals being served all looked good. The Ploughman's looked substantial. We decided to have the fish, chips with garden peas. When it arrived it looked good however on tasting the chips they were covered in salt. I appreciate that some people like salt on their chips, we don't! Unfortunately, this ruined our meal. Mentioned this to the staff so I hope in the future salt is on the table for use if required and not already added. C&L please take note.

We stumbled across this gem. I had a bacon cheese burger, my wife had a huge ploughman's my kids had mac and cheese. All very nice and competitively priced. We sat outside under cover, all the staff we encountered were very helpful.

It was a lovely little pub to discover and experience. Great tasting food with great service. A good choice of food on the menu. Very busy and popular. Dog friendly, too. Easy parking just off the main Rd. Lots of little shops to discover in the area if you have time and a very picturesque street scene with the church and pub.

Real food, what more needs to be said. The portion size was spot on. Great selection of drinks and amazing puds (and proper custard). Also good value. Best to book ahead, we walked in and was lucky.

The food was absolutely amazing! I had the belly pork which was melt in your mouth type stuff! My partner had the lamb pie which was also amazing! Friendly and happy bar/waiting staff in a proper old fashioned little pub. I would recommend it to anyone!

We went here for a Sunday roast. We pre-ordered before we arrived. Friendly fast service. Food was lovely. Very quiet Pub which we like. Not the right pub if you like it a bit more lively.

Such a fabulous meal! We were absolutely stuffed ! The staff were so friendly, it was such a lovely experience - super dog friendly - although I left my little ones at home to have a peaceful meal! A very disappointing visit to this establishment which appears to operate with a less than enthusiastic proprietor, perhaps a failing hobby! Waiting in excess of 20 minutes at the bar for a drink isn't the way to run a pub/restaurant when the place is empty. I say restaurant generously as the menu consists of just three or four options. On our visit one of the dishes chosen was a steak. After taking the order we were later informed they were 'out of steak'. How on earth do you run out of the main ingredient of one of the four dishes available. Returning again to the unattended bar a little later the reason for the pitiful service was due to staff having their meals in preference to serving customers. Not a pleasant experience and certainly won't be returning. In response to the owners comments, my review is a fair and accurate assessment of The Pointers Inn, I take a particular note of establishments to avoid in the future! If you wish I can have my fellow diners post a similar review who were all of the same opinion as me. Probably better to address the issues raised rather than try to deflect!

Large portions, delicious food, and lovely service! The team was attentive and welcoming, and the atmosphere really made the visit impressive and worth it. Super dog-friendly too, which is a big bonus. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning

What a lovely British pub/restaurant. We came here for lunch as we had been recommended going. The service was fantastic they have a little buzzer to call the waiter when needed. And staff was very friendly. They are making some great British classics and they are getting their food locally which you can tell. Food tastes delicious here and highly recommend people booking this place for a lunch or dinner. Please bear in mind tables are limited so I do advise booking in advance. They had plenty of parking. But it can easily be missed. It's a great places for visiting on holiday or even local islanders 👍

One of the best meals I’ve ever had while eating out! The food was fresh, full of flavour, and excellent quality. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff were attentive and kind, and overall it was just a wonderful experience from start to finish!

Visited the Yarbridge for the first time whilst on a weekend away as the reviews looked good and glad we did. The service from staff was great, very friendly. The quality of food was amazing. We opted for the cottage pie which was very tasty served with vegetables. Highly recommended.

Visited here for a meal at the end of July. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the food was delicious with very generous portions, and the atmosphere was relaxed and perfect for a quiet meal for two. If you’re ever in Brading please make an effort to visit!

Went tonight for our anniversary meal , service amazing, we had the prawns to start absolutely beautiful, and I had the Rump steak and my Fiancé had the fillet steak , he said it was the best steak he’s ever had had and what can I say about the onion rings they were absolutely incredible I could of just had a plate of them 😋😋 , we live on the island and we’ll now be visiting regularly 😁😁😁 thankyou foxes 🦊

Apologies for the fact that we started the meal before taking the pic. Despite the beautiful presentation we have had some truly awful publicity grub on the Isle of Wight and I wasn't expecting this. Beautifully cooked and delicious. Thoroughly recommended.

We were driving back to our hotel, and fancied a late lunch. We didn't know very much about the pub and were absolutely stunned at how good it was. It has a decent sized car park, all on the flat, making it suitable for those with mobility issues. A lot of people were outside on the many tables, enjoying the sunshine; but we had been outside all day and wanted a cooler position inside. The staff were very friendly and helpful; and I loved the call bells positioned on the tables, which really does seem to make it easier to serve customers. The menu is really good and there were numerous specials to select from. In the end, I chose the Ploughman's Lunch with the option to have ham, Stilton and Cheddar. The platter was seriously loaded up, with pickles, salad, fruit to add to the ham and cheese. Check the picture; it really was a substantial meal. From what I could see, other meals were easily as great a value. There was an impressive range of drinks, and I'm sure that everyone could find something to their liking. I have to say, it's a pity that the pub is not a bit closer to where I live; I would be going there on a very regular basis. If you are passing by there, please drop by; you will not regret it.

We stopped by for lunch after a long journey and were so glad we did. The food was delicious, the atmosphere cozy and welcoming, everything spotless, and the staff genuinely friendly. The menu offers a wide selection of both food and drinks. Portions are generous – even the smaller ones – so we couldn’t manage dessert this time. But we’ll definitely be coming back to try their incredible ice cream! Thank you so much for a truly lovely experience.

We booked a table for 6 for Sunday lunch easily on the website for when we came over to the IOW. We had great service from the front of house to waitress whom looked after us. We all had the Sunday lunch which was fantastic. A really great lunch. After lunch we sat in the beer garden to let the children run off all their energy on the bounce pillow and karts. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

No trip to the island, is complete with out stopping here at least once. Over the years we have been coming here, when the owner or other long term members of staff are working. They always come and say hello, ask us about our trip. Even the new faces to us are very polite. I don’t think service is slow here when they are super busy ether, the food is always piping hot, all are meals are served at the same time “handy if you wanna say grace, we just wanna tuck in personally” The food is always cooked how we like it, a great selection of options. The selection of beer is very good, my partner says the same for the cider. We’re not wine drinkers so can not honestly compliment them. It’s always clean and presentable, plenty of parking space. If you haven’t already visited the little gem of the island then what you waiting for. There big breakfast is always a favourite on the last day on the island. Will set you up a treat

Ate here a couple of times with the family during our trip to the Isle of Wight. Great play activities for younger ones. Reasonably priced ice creams and food was good especially from the specials board.

Staff very friendly and polite, fantastic food and big portions. Great value for money. I was really impressed! Good choice on the menu and the food we chose was amazing!! Ample seating for all. And lots of outside seating, in the sun or shade. The facilities were clean and impressive! Nothing worse than run down, dirty loos... Lovely decor and nice touches of hand soap and cream! Could do with a more powerful/energy efficient hand drier though 😊 The service was great and the girl who served us both food and drinks was lovely and friendly. Will definitely recommend and return in the future!

My husband and I visited last night specifically to try Tom Shepherd's 'best ever pub pie', plus we had a voucher for 30% off main meals (posh pie and a good discount - what's not to love?!). We thoroughly enjoyed the meal (jury's still out on whether or not it was the best pub pie we've ever had!), although we would both have liked more gravy with it. We would have asked for some more, however our waitress, whilst very friendly and smiley, never came back to our table after serving our meals. She should have returned shortly after serving us to enquire if everything was okay (the pub wasn't busy, so not run off her feet). I did also have to keep my jacket on, as the pub was cold. We did enjoy the meal and our experience enough to recommend it to our friends. We will be back.

We came today as a family of 4. We were greeted to two signs one of which said the kitchen was closed between 3.30 & 4.30 (our table was booked for 3, so what if we wanted desserts?) and another saying that they were having fryer issues so were unable to cook part of their menu. They had only been serving roast dinners for 3 hours but had already run out of two out of 3 meats? There was no stuffing, no crackling (on the pork roast) no red cabbage on any of the plates and 1 tiny bit of carrot when it states ‘carrots’ on the menu with the smallest amount of green veg. Overall it was £58 (on 2 adult roasts 1 child roast & 1 child fish goujons - which were actually cheap fish fingers) wasted in our opinion. The ‘roast’ potatoes that were meant to be garlic & herb were in fact bland with no flavour atall; they were pale like they’d been boiled & maybe deep fried for that extra texture. The Yorkshire puddings were homemade (I think) but they were very thick/batter-like It wasn’t busy there was maybe 2 other tables in the whole restaurant, okay it’s half term but they should be aware and cater for more. We had this booked so they should have made sure they have enough food to cover all bookings, or am I wrong here? The meat was nice & the gravy was really nice but apart from that it’s a no from us.

Nice & clean. Took a few mins to get greeted. Given choice of table. Good menu. Lady behind the bar was not nearly as friendly as she should be - in that setting. Took over an hour to get our food, which was good, but a portion of the my lamb & pie was missing an ingredient, the pie. The food was well prepared & tasty - We would have had coffee & dessert, but after the mains taking over an hour we decided against it, paid & left. I did tell the somewhat grumpy looking person behind the bar, she shrugged & said ‘well we’re a bit busy’ - which they weren’t - I worked in the restaurant business for 20 years, it wasn’t busy at all & that is also not an acceptable excuse for slow service. The 40% off coupon was what prompted us to visit, but mediocre service stops us from returning. Your staff can do better, train them properly in customer service & friendliness.

Came here with my family for a meal whilst on holiday. I had the beer battered fish and chunky chips. Compliments to the chef, this was the most delicious battered fish that I have ever had. The family ordered various dishes from the menu and we were all delighted with our meals. There was plenty of room for us as there were 10 of us plus Dash our assistance dog (who had many treats too) so we were all taken care of. We also had a wheelchair user with us and they had no problem with accessibility. The staff were super friendly and the prices were reasonable for the meals. I would definitely come here again. 🙂

I had a great visit to Merrie Gardens Farm. The menu has a nice variety, and the portions were generous for the price. The pub has a warm atmosphere, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Food came out hot and well-presented — definitely recommend the burgers and roasts. A good spot for casual dining with family or friends.

What an absolute gem! Great venue with lots of wooden beams and loads of space to eat / drink. The staff were very welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. The menu was filled with hearty choices but don’t miss the special board. You won’t be disappointed. Last night was a full rack of ribs and tonight was the chair style pork medallions. First class taste and good portion sizes. From order to food on table….10 mins. As this is also a hotel, it’s more than anyone could need. Totally worth the journey to the island from Hampshire.

We had a really nice stay. We arrived late afternoon Thursday, the place was pretty quiet, but within a couple of hours it was quite busy in the bar/restaurant. Plenty of seating though, the place is quite large. We had a premium room, which was spacious with a desk, a table, 2 seater sofa wardrobe and chest of drawers. King-size bed, with bedside tables both sides. The bed and sofa both faced the large window, with views of the sea and in the distance the cliffs and needles. The shower in a hotel room is often what I book them for, in this case the shower was great but not quite at the pressure is was hoping for, it was good but not amazing. The food in the bar is very good, over the four nights we've sampled quite a few items for both lunch and dinner, as well as the breakfast every morning, we've been very happy with both cost and quality. The staff have been superb, friendly but not intrusive, helpful but not hovering over us. I've had a couple of "rando requests", for example asking for a pint of milk for my protein shake, nothing has been too much, they've been great. I'd really recommend the place, we will be coming back with our dogs, the clifftop walk opposite the hotel is perfect for them.

Stopped here for lunch with our dog on our way back to Freshwater. Ordered the Ploughman's Sharer for two. Oh my! What a brilliant lunch! More than enough for two with 2 cheeses, ham, pate, pork pie plus salad and various pickles. The bread was crusty outer but soft and fluffy inside. Fantastic. Plus a large garden to enjoy. What could be better

Absolutely stunning. My mum and I decided we'd have a pop in for our dinner this afternoon, as we hadnt been for years, and it was the best decision. The scenery looking over chale was stunning, the inside of the pub felt warm and welcoming, the staff were very polite and friendly not only to us, but to our two huskeys. We both had The Winter combo, and were apparently the first to order it. I am honoured to be one of the first people to try it, and it was honestly the most amazing meal I have ever tasted. The vegetables were spot on, the pork belly melted in your mouth and has such beautiful flavour, the yorkshire pudding and beef was devine. Well worth the value of only £23 for such a massive meal. I think he was the manager called Alex, he was very humble ans polite to us both. Will 100% be going again when we come back to The Island, and will recommend to everyone. Well done staff and my highest compliments to the chef.

We did not stay here but rather had a meal. Service and food were both lovely. Reasonably priced and very good sized and tasty portions. The children's menu was brilliant, not just the usual four items consisting of nuggets, sausage, pasta and burger. Will definitely revisit the next time we are in the area.

We stayed here for a 10 night Holiday on the Isle of Wight. The location is brilliantly positioned to reach destinations on any coastline on the island within 30 mins on good traffic days. We enjoyed many sunsets sitting in the garden looking over the sea at the Needles. The staff are excellent especially Amy, Alex and Debbie, they made us fell very welcome and always had a smile on their faces even when it was really busy. Mr mouse aka Tony is a great host for the evening meals. All the food portions are generous and of a good quality particularly the specials which change every few days (unless they sell out!). Breakfast is great with cereal and pastries followed by hot food options or a Granola bowl, supplied with bottomless tea and coffee. The room we had was spacious and cleaned each day with towels provided on request. We look forward to returning when we go back to the Island. There are two electric chargers at the location but only one was working during my stay which provided AC charging at up to 22kW if your car can take it. It was convenient for a couple of top-ups while traveling round the Island making it less stressful to find a charger. Download the Monta app before travelling and it'll show up at the Inn. Definitely worth visiting this farm that you could easily spend your whole afternoon there. The place is well kept and all the staff were really friendly. Highly recommended!! The farm shop is really nice (in both look and smell) and the products looked really good in quality. We definitely loaded ourselves with lots of garlics 🤣🤣 The restaurant is packed during lunch. Unfortunately we didn't make a booking so we ended up just having some scones, cheese board and ice cream after lunch time. The lunch menu looks really nice though! Oh yes, the staff at the restaurant also treat our pet tortoise Mochi a proper served free strawberry =) We will definitely revisit again in the future!!

🌟The Garlic Farm – Sandown, Isle of Wight🌟 A lovely stop! The shop is nicely kept – clean, well presented, and everything is laid out in a way that’s really appealing. There’s a great range of garlic-themed goodies, perfect for gifts or personal treats. I also bought a bottle of Cold Garlic Beer to try – an interesting one! To me, it tasted a bit like a watery Guinness. Not really to my taste, but I can see how some people might enjoy it for the novelty. Plenty of free parking made the visit easy and stress-free. Definitely worth a stop if you’re nearby!

I love the Garlic Farm. Nice walk around the area. Spend loads of money on garlic related bits. Have all the free samples you can eat. I mean try little bits of each. Took a massive amount of the vampire hot sauce. Way hotter than I expected. So that was fun.

Came here after finding this place on Google and oh my it didn't disappoint. There is soo much to do here with the family and has a wide variety of products that are just soo tasty. We also went for breakfast here and it was lovely, wonderfully presented and came rather fast after we ordered, and was served with their own 2 kinds of ketchup (the black garlic ketchup was amazing but the garlic ketchup was too vinegary in my opinion) it was a good breakfast however my criticism of this is that it would be better with chargrilled bacon rather than having hot held bacon (could definitely tell it was hot held bacon as it was starting to turn a bit leathery) also maybe having the addition of a hash brown or black/white pudding. The servers were lovely and helpful people and the coffees that we got were amazing quality. If your in the IOW then definitely take a detour here as it will be worth your time.

I read all the reviews before visiting and it was a pleasure! The restaurant was fantastic! We pre booked and had the nicest garlicky lunch! Too bad for people who don't like garlic! The shop was lovely with so many garlic products. We bought different varieties of garlic and vampire slayer sauce which is v hot and garlicky. The farm walk wasn't good enough, it would be better to take a guided tour as v could not appreciate much walking by ourselves. We did not see any crops as well. But restaurant and shop is a fantastic visit if you are in the area. Wonderful experience!

Wonderful! Gorgeous setting, fabulous food, and so much delicious garlic. We stayed at the Garlic Farm for a short escape to the island in September. The cottage was perfect. Lovingly decorated and perfect for a family of 4. A big highlight of the weekend was the Farm Tour. Our tour guide (and one of the farm owners) Colin is incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining. He clearly deeply cares for the farm and for the farm guests. Colin took so much time and patiently answered all our questions. What the family have built on the Garlic Farm is extraordinary! A highly recommended place to go for the nature enthusiasts. The farm is huge and presents a detailed history of garlic. Their shop is very nice and have huge collection of garlic based products. Overall, it was a nice place to visit.

If you find yourself in Newport, walk down to the harbour to The Barheman's Rest, you won't be disappointed. Such a great position, plenty of seating areas outside and in. It was quiet, but still had a lovely atmosphere. The menu was good with an excellent selection, to cater for most tastes. There was also a good choice of drinks from the bar. The staff were very helpful and polite. The pub was clean and tidy, with a great decor which suited it's surroundings. Our food arrived, well presented and looked as described. I had the home cooked Ham Sandwich, it was delicious, thick cut and moist. A most enjoyable lunch and excellent value for money. I'm really pleased we decided to explore Newport. This pub is definitely worth finding.

Came here for a meal with grandparents this week, a lovely atmosphere and good energy about the place. Was a scorcher, but all our meals were fantastic! Decent portion sizes too.

I came across the bargemans rest by accident. So glad I did though, wonderful situation by the river and a very old world cosy pub it is. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the menu looked very well thought through. I'm definitely returning to it.

This is such a lovely, unique place to eat with amazing food. Generous helpings, huge selection to choose from and good variety of home cooked fresh vegetables. Staff are extremely friendly and the varied seating areas, both inside and out, are great. This is our favourite place to eat when on holiday on the island.

Came here for a bite to eat around lunch time, wasn't busy (dog friendly). I got the fish and chips, it was good, but a bit pricey for just fish and chips. I love tartar sauce, but some of the chunks were a bit large, some were half as big as my pinky finger (pickles, I think), so it is very very chunky. Good flavor though. My partner had a fish hot dog (sea dog) which was pretty good, preferred it to the fish and chips. The views outside were wonderful and it was quite relaxing. The staff were friendly as well.

Enjoyed a Friday supper here. The really friendly women at the welcome desk said there were no available tables inside as fully booked (7.30pm) but she thought give or take 10 minutes and she’d be able to find us something - she did and we had a great table by the bar before 8pm. Marked down one star on food, as the fried fish was just a tad greasy, and hubby has had indigestion ever since his whitebait. Espresso coffee pretty good, which is hard to find in a pub!

Just a couple of Kiwis on a working holiday in the UK and we stumbled across The Lifeboat during our Isle of Wight visit. The location, the atmosphere, the staff, the food & drinks = perfection! We got a combination of drinks and food - main star of the show was the fish and chips! It was HUGE and tasty! Really nice tartar sauce and the chips were delicious. Would 110% recommend anyone to visit!

Good selection of beer including some nice guest ales. Didn't have food but it all looked amazing as it was being served. Servers were all very attentative, constantly on the move serving food and clearing tables. Great location on the marina too. It's a Monday evening and it is very busy so must be popular with locals too.

It was very kind of the chef to cook the Moo Burger for me as it was no longer listed on the menu. I had found an older menu online and gone there looking forward to having it. I was actually very pleased with it. It far exceeded my expectations, and I am a bit of a burger connoisseur! As we live in Cambridgeshire I won’t be going back for another burger soon, but I will go back to the IoW and when I do, I will go back to the Lifeboat for another of their burgers - and try a different one. I’ll let you know how I get on when I do!

I came here for a colleagues leaving party. Only the organiser had been here before so no one knew what to expect. After our experience here today, we have all started planning when we can come again. The team were very friendly, the atmosphere was great and the food was phenomenal. I really enjoyed the food and can't wait to bring my wife here in the near future.

Great place to go before a ferry ride home to the main land. Nice little car park, fog friendly and great selection on craft beers and ciders. Service was great, we will definitely be back on our next break away.

I was intrigued by the onion tower at the table next to us, so I decided to order one 🧅 Unfortunately, it was a big disappointment—the coating was far too hard (maybe too much flour in the batter?) and the texture was unpleasant. It should have been light and crispy, but instead felt heavy. The burger came with chips and the portion size was decent. I tried The Big Smoke, which was fine but not particularly memorable. What really let the dish down were the chips. They didn’t taste fresh or good quality—when you bit into them, they had hollow gaps inside instead of a fluffy, mashed potato filling. On the positive side, the service was excellent. The staff were friendly, attentive, and quick to provide tap water. The restaurant itself has a cool, unique vibe, and even though it wasn’t lunchtime, I noticed people coming in to eat—so I imagine it gets lively during dinner hours.

A very warm welcome by friendly and helpful staff. Great selection of cow based, (and non-cow based) products for all tastes and preferences. The restaurant was clean and fresh, sympathetic to the farm surroundings. Burgers were great, served quickly, very well presented with generous portions all round. First bite of the Moo Blue Burger and you can taste the stilton. The Fantastic Four is worth a look if you can't decide, and would suit a couple for a meal. Good selection of Camden ales: stouts, pale ale, lager. Well worth a visit to replenish the calorie reserves even if your haven't been on the water park.

Absolutely stunning experience! The food orders were all totally different and wanted bits taken off or added on and one had allergies ( me ) and not one thing missed off the orders , everything was perfect ! Friendly staff & food was delicious !

Fabulous dining here at the cow. The service was fantastic the food was full of flavour and presented perfectly the dirty fries were awesome. The burgers were juicy and full of flavour by far the best burger I've had on the island. The whole table thoroughly enjoyed their food and deserts. Free table water aswell is a fantastic touch even the lemon and lime slices were put in the correct drinks as an ex bartender this was a very nice touch that gets forgotten far to much in my opinion. I would highly recommend a meal here for the family if your looking for a nice place to eat with some amazing deals.

An amazing restaurant in the fields offering the best locally made burgers from their own grown cows. The experience is unforgettable. It's just like my old memories of visiting Jeju Island in South Korea.

Amazing food, really top notch! Gluten free options brilliant, You can opt for GF bap or no bun....if you go no bun, they reduce the price slightly which is fantastic considering the number of places that charge the same! Thoroughly recommend everything!

Lovely, cosy pub with a great atmosphere and incredible food. We decided to visit on a whim last night with our toddler and dog and despite us not booking and the pub being busy, the gent behind the bar (I am assuming he was the manager or owner) found us a table very quickly. It didn’t take long for food to arrive and it tasted incredible, my partner had the veggie chilli (best we have ever tasted!) and I had the chicken and ham pie - which again, tasted incredible. The views here are spectacular too, definitely somewhere I would recommend anyone to visit if coming to the Isle of Wight.

Absolutely divine Sunday lunch - I had 2 meat (pork and beef) when I couldn't decide and loved every mouthful. Often with a roast one aspect lets the side down - not this one. Generous portions. Delicious crispy roasties. Creamy cauliflower cheese. Perfect crunch to tenderstem broccoli. Lovely flavorful tender meat. Fluffy big Yorkshire pudding. And all drowning in gravy. Sat outside in the sun, couldn't be happier

Another absolutely fantastic meal, the food is always amazing and loads of GF options for my wife, including the famous fish pie! Who’s she said was amazing……I had the Lamb burger off the special board which was very tasty and the lamb cooked perfectly! Well regarded and popular high end but deliciously simple restaurant. Serves locals and the large visiting sailing community. It’s busy and noisy through the early evening and guests seek post sailing sustenance. We had a large family dinner. Starters and mains plus drinks. Service is friendly and relaxed and surprisingly quick given how busy it is. Lots of fish dishes on offer and they nail it. I had the crab bruschetta followed by the grilled plaice - both superb. Others had crab ramekin - excellent, and smoked mackerel pate. Only downside was the burgers main dishes which were run of the mill. Decent sized portions. It’s not cheap (£300+ for 7) but they do it well. Lots to like and a great location.

I love this pub — I’ve been here several times for different occasions. Only once was I a bit disappointed by the food, but since then there’s been a massive improvement. This time we had the crispy polenta and buffalo chicken to start, and both were amazing. The polenta was absolutely insane — the texture was perfect: crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, topped with wild mushrooms — absolutely genius! The buffalo wings were tasty and meaty, just as you’d expect. For my main, I had the gluten-free smashed burger. The meat felt a bit old, and I couldn’t quite tell which flavour was stronger — the meat or the blue cheese sauce. It came with chips and a side salad, which were great. Kids had pizza, fish goujons, and garlic bread on the side — they said it was nice, and I trust them on that since I couldn’t try it (I’m coeliac). Service was friendly and helpful, especially with my dietary requirements. The atmosphere, as always, was lovely. This is definitely one of my favourite pubs to eat out at — just need a bit more consistency with the food, and it’d be perfect.

This is a gem of a venue, rustic, vibrant with a laid back feel. The food was excellent, the service efficient. They obviously use good quality ingredients. The drinks choices are great especially the choice of low or no alcohol beers & spirits. The only place on the Island where we were able to order a Calypso coffee without being asked what it is! Thanks to the Italian waiter! A great view across the Solent. We would recommend.

Such a great atmosphere with lovely friendly staff who were very attentive, great music choice and not to mention the absolutely delicious food. My partner and I ordered the honey and soy wings, smash burger, bream and the cheesecake of the day and were blown away by them all.

Been here many times over the years, and this time it did not disappoint. It was a busy Sunday lunchtime, and so good job we had booked. Both the service and the food was very good. Recommended.

We have always received a warm welcome at The Old Fort. I booked for 18 of us (a group walk from Ryde to Seaview and back) I had to change the numbers a few times and add a dog at the last minute but they were very accommodating. The food was efficiently served and very good. Hot and tasty.

Dish you order won’t match what you’ll get. Overpriced, at least for the catch of the day. When I asked a member of the staff where my spinach were (see picture), she said the beans were cooked on spinach water (??). Sounded like a gaslight attempt. Minuscule portion for 34£ + 2 small pieces of bread for 3.99£…

I'd often passed Bonchurch on the road from Shanklin to Ventnor but never ventured down the road. This time I booked the Bonchurch Inn before we left. It's a small restaurant with no more than 6 or 7 tables so booking is advised. The food is heavily biased towards Italian as the original owners were from Italy. The cooking is done by the family and is excellent. I had the lasagne as recommended by our waitress which was without doubt the best I've ever had. It has a lovely atmosphere and is used by the locals - always a good sign. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended. We didn't stay so this is review is only for the restaurant.

Food was absolutely superb, the only disappointment was it was fully booked for the rest of our stay so couldn't return. The lasagne was as good as the build up from other reviews and according to other in our group so was the salmon tagliatelle and garlic bread. I thoroughly recommend a visit, just ensure you book early.

What a wonderful find this Inn is. Life Changing Lasagne and Tirimisu x2. The flavour in the staggeringly good category. Sat in the courtyard under the pergola on a sunny afternoon and you feel as if you're in Italy. Wholeheartedly recommended and next visit to the isle we'll be back. In fact it's the law according to our taste buds😋

Went for dinner again here last night (visited last year) and was blown away by how beautiful the whole area is! A courtyard with tables outside (perfect for those summer nights!), 2 rooms in the bar area and I could spot a private room opposite the bar. Lauren and Jess were fantastic hosts and offered us brilliant service. They were kind, thoughtful, friendly and very lovely. Food options was amazing! We had the tuna steaks to start, with melon and Parma ham. Main course was that LIFE CHANGING LASAGNE (which of course is life changing!) and the crab linguine! Everything was cooked fresh and tasted AMAZING!!

Small historic pub with courtyard tables. Limited menu (a good thing) with an Italian bias. Food generally good. Friendly staff. Only on road parking. At busy times park at Bonchurch Village Pond and walk up.

Came here for dinner last Friday with my family and had an unforgettable experience. They were very accommodating allowing us to dine even though we hadn’t made a dinner reservation. The Italian food we had was absolutely to die for tasting so fresh and flavourful, the seafood bruschetta, spaghetti bolognaise, seafood linguine (from the specials board), tiramisu (one of the best tiramisu’s I’ve ever had) and lemon sorbet being the highlights which I all highly recommend to order if you do get opportunity to. The service was brilliant, the two lovely young ladies who served us throughout the evening were extremely friendly and hospitable making us feel right at home. Lastly, the Inn’s courtyard was breathtakingly beautiful and felt as if you were actually in Tuscany or Amalfi. A must visit if you are massive fan of authentic and delicious Italian food. Definitely will be coming back here with my family for lunch or dinner next time I’m in the Isle of Wight!

Charming Pub with Traditional and Delicious Pub Food! The Crown is a family favourite and we have been coming for years. It is a charming pub! The current owners have been our favourite visits and the menu has a fantastic choice. My mum and I had the special: mushroom linguine recently. It was delicious and tasted like high restaurant quality. We also enjoyed the chocolate mousse with a home made biscuit and the raspberry roulade. My toddler loves the chips every time he visits. Friendly staff and delicious comforting food. We also love the fact it has a well equipped playground for children to enjoy along with the stream.

Life-changingly good vegan ploughman’s. Had it on holiday 3 weeks ago and still thinking about it so much I had to come leave a review. What a pleasure to have proper vegan options in a village pub. Meat eater and vegetarian very happy with their meals too, plus friendly staff and decent beers. Would highly recommend and rush back if I were in IOW again.

What a find. A lovely 'local' pub which pulls off the trick of being atmospheric and lovely to drink in..as well as being a great place to eat lovely food. The selection of food was good, the flavour was wonderful and it was served by very friendly staff. The beer was in good condition too. Oh and I'm a sucker for a country pub with a nice fire, they have two lovely log fires. I look forward to returning and wish I lived nearby. I may mark differently to some other reviewers, some might see this as harsh, others may see it as fair. But here's how I look at it: 5 star - WOW. I want to go back and look forward to doing so. They delivered everything expected and more. The 'more' is normally about the service or attitude of the staff. 4 star - GOOD. They delivered everything I wanted and a bit more. I recommend them and would go back. 3 star - OK. They delivered what I expected, I would go back if I needed to, although don't currently plan on doing so. 2 star - Not very good. I didn't get what I expected and the service wasn't good. I don't recommend this place. I might get dragged back here, although will always try to avoid it 1 star - RUBBISH. Don't go there, I certainly won't go there again. I didn't get what I wanted, the people were unhelpful and I didn't enjoy it in any way.

Beautiful setting, friendly service, incredible food. We had the steak and ale pie and sticky toffee pudding for afters... we've eaten at a lot of places on the isle of wight over the past 4 weeks and this place tops the lot. 100% recommended 100% will be returning

Cracking little gem of a pub. Ample parking, dog friendly, family friendly, beer garden and a river (50p to feed the fish). Some local brews on tap and as always, Mermaid Gin for those that appreciate. However, the crowning glory (eye roll or tut at that pun as much as you like, it's my review so nerr!) is the food and service. Steak and Guiness pie for myself causing a little food envy amongst my family, sticky toffee pudding after that simply melted in the mouth..all served by super friendly staff. Fully recommend.

The nicest pub we've been in on the Island. Menus are varied and very reasonable. Good food, spotlessly clean and friendly and helpful staff. Pub is beautifully situated. Thank you. We'll be back very soon.

We first visited The Crown Inn 12 years ago. Loved it then, love it now. We live in Shanklin but I happily drive to Shorwell to visit for coffee, lunch, and dinner. Lovely old pub, great staff, I'd live in it if it was a house. 😍

It's nice there but be warned.... The portions are huge so think before you order a huge starter before a huge main course! My son ordered the belly of pork bites with other bits on the plate and to be honest, that would have been enough... Then we proceeded to order mains of ham, egg and chips with salad and coleslaw instead of the peas. HUUUUGE plate of food! My daughter had macaroni cheese and salad. Staff, Liam and Ben, were delightful and very happy to adjust the menu for us. Cleanliness was impeccable everywhere including the bathroom. There was no loud music which was a bonus! And it's 5 mins away from the Island Riding Centre if you fancy dropping your kids there and heading here before pick up! All on one level so great for our elderly Great Aunt too. Plenty of parking, outside seating and a smoking area. Will return... But not order a starter lol! Personally, I think they should reduce the portions as they would still be big enough!

Superb food, cooked to perfection. Tuna was excellent. Highly recommended. I think people know how good it is in The Woodsmans Arms. A Tuesday night and they were busy, and the staff are very professional, so there were no issues.

Fantastic pub! Food was absolutely delicious and a very good portion sizes. The lasagne was one of the best me and the wife have ever had! Staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough! Dog friendly too which is brilliant and they even gave us a bowl of water for the pooch on a hot day. Definitely recommend if you're visiting the Isle of Wight.

The quality of the food exceeded expectations. Whilst others in our party had burgers and steaks, I had the pork bites starter with cheesy fries. Delicious. And excellent value for money. One of the burgers was not quite done as much as my husband liked it, but it was replaced quickly and he was very happy with it. We will definitely come again. The difficult thing will be ordering something different, as we loved what we had. Many thanks.

The food was so delicious 😋 I had salmon with leeks and sticky toffee pud afterwards. I didn’t want either to end! The seasoning and flavour combo with the salmon was yummy and the fish had been perfectly cooked. Portion was excellent value for money and it was hot when served. Can’t fault this food or service. The waiters were friendly and attentive but not intrusive. Thank you so much for a lovely evening.

Had a meal here a few weeks ago with my wife, first time visit. The bar is clean and the staff were very welcoming. The menu was pretty varied and the food was very nice. Dog friendly too. Will be back on our next holiday

I came here after a few recommendations that the food and portions good value for money & really tasty. I thought that the food was amazing and the portion size certainly was value for money. I got the give us everything platter and was really impressed with the presentation, it displayed all the food so you could see what you were getting. If it was all chucked on a place you couldn't see the individual items and full appreciate what you were getting. Taste was beautiful each item was stunning. I'm looking forward to returning on a different day and trying something other than a roast dinner.

Wow! Just had the best roast dinner I've had in a long time. Fresh, tasty and a huge portion! Make sure you add the cauliflower cheese. Lovely place with friendly service staff. Will definitely be returning.

Omg.!!!! This is a MUST visit pub if you want to either lift your day or lift your holiday. !!! Steak, cook perfectly, tasted fantastic.! Breaded chicken in sauce, huge portion, high quality chicken and melt in the mouth, sauce was 1st class Shepherds pie, This is a quality lamb dinner, disguised as a shepherd's pie.!!! Chunks of quality lamb in a lovely gravy covered in mash, not mince.!!! Breaded mushrooms, fresh perfectly cooked chunky mushrooms in a very tasty herby crumb, really addictive.!! Perfect if your a veggy.!! Fantastic addition if your not.!

Visiting the island for the day with family and found this place on google maps and decided to give it a try based on its high rating. One the best meals I’ve had in a long time, all four us ordered different dishes and clean plates all round. Kitchen is semi open plan which gives confidence in the chefs and their ability. I went for the shepherds pie which wasn’t traditional in the sense it uses chunks of lamb leg rather than lamb mince but it was delicious. Food was good value for money, large portions and friendly staff.

Wow what a lovely afternoon lunch. The roast dinner was amazing, loads of food and of good quality too. The only thing I’d say was missing would be cauliflower cheese (not like I could eat it anyway!) We managed an apple crumble which was probably the best I have ever had. Friendly staff, lovely restaurant and atmosphere. Well worth the trip from the West Wight, so glad to have finally tried it!

Such a lovely place. The food was incredible, and the service was amazing. I wanted the pork belly special, but I was informed that they were sold out, but then was offered an alternative pork belly made by the chef just for me. It was super flavorful, cooked perfectly. I cannot recommend this place enough.

We went to the Hungry Bear and it was overall a great experience! This was on a non-roast dinner day. Staff were very nice, friendly and attentive. The menu was limited but I understand a smaller menu allows for speed and quality fresh ingredients so I don't have a problem with that and I'm am not picky. It would of been nice to have an option of a steak that wasn't the tomahawk as this is meant for sharing and couldn't justify the £60 for myself. We had the burger that was really nice but maybe slightly on the dry side. I also ordered lobster tail and this is probably where this review went from 5 to 4 stars, they were very small, lacking meat and dry which was disappointing. Just not what I imagined when I ordered lobster tail. Overall was a nice experience and will definitely return to try again and also will try the roast.

I love the anchor! Had a fantastic evening on Saturday Great atmosphere, great DJ 😎 Proces for drinks are good too Very busy. Need to queue for a round for 10 mins sometimes, but that is the proce of success! Maybe one more behind the jump at these busy times , or a second bar?

Perfect location for a two night stay. Super clean rooms and good value. Free parking on nearby streets outside the controlled zone. Some noise from deliveries as you're right on the high street but that's to be expected and didn't bother me

Charged £1 for each plastic ‘glass’, even though I made it clear that we were not going outside. Asked for a receipt, but no ink down the right hand side, meaning I couldn’t read the prices. Left after 1 drink. Bar tender less than helpful.

Quite overpriced (around the £10+ mark for a vodka coke) but it is a lovely atmosphere with some great live bands and music playing most weekends. It is often cramped in here due to how busy it gets.

We stayed at the Anchor Inn for a week. It was a last minute booking. The location in the heart of the high street is super convenient and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Any issues are resolved very quickly. I hope the establishment goes from strength to strength.

We booked this for the Isle of Wight festival, so pretty unsociable hours, the staff couldn't have been more helpful. So kind and accommodating. Our room wasn't quite ready (we were early) so they took care of our bags and delivered them to our room while we were out! Couldn't recommend them enough!

Sadly this place did not live up to its expectations. nice little venue which felt cosy when we walked in. Unfortunately the food in here definitely didn't hit the Mark compared to the price. The ribeye steak was ordered by three of our party. 2 medium well done and one was ordered rare They all came out medium to well done. Whoever was cooking this steak is not really a steak chef. There was little to no caramelisation to the surface of the meat. It was clearly cooked too slow. The meat had not been seasoned at all, so all in all there was very little flavour from one of the most flavoursome pieces of beef. It was served with some average french fries and a handful of salad. The salad tasted like it had the same dressing as the starter salad which I had which was very nice. Overall poorly cuts poor quality food and overpriced.

we order pork chop, eye rib steak, both are good. Staff is warm hearted. But, pork with red wine, I think, is sort of strangeous.

We came as the concept of blind tasting and that they sourced locally. We went with the 7 course. The place had a lot of potential. The waitresses could have done more to explain the concept and the background of the food. The food was good but the overall service and experience made it less value for money. Also, fig sorbet being counted as a course is a bit unfair.

We had the most amazing experience at The Heron for their 7 course blind tasting. I emailed ahead of time to ask if they allow children which they were more than happy to do. They even asked if they had any dislikes so they could adjust the menu accordingly. Every single meal was beautifully crafted and was Absolutely delicious. The host was such a lovely lady as well and made our children (12 & 13) feel very grown up during the whole experience and she Was very knowledgeable about what was being served. The atmosphere was really chill and nothint Was too much trouble. We will return next time we are on the island!

Stunning food and excellent service from James and Hannah. This is a special restaurant - calm, relaxing and sophisticated. The food was so tasty and beautifully presented. We really enjoyed being able to watch the food being prepared and dishes created. Highly recommend as the best food we've had on the Isle of Wight.

Went a year or so ago and wasn't blown away, thought I'd give it another go and had the blind taster menu , very nice evening and nice combination of courses. Would recommend.

This was the most exciting food we’ve had for ages. James and Hanna made our whole experience outstanding. The cocktails and canapés next door were perfect too. Highly recommend and we will be back!

We had the blind tasting menu. Everything was delicious (even the coconut sorbet which I wouldn't normally go for). The menu makes local seasonal ingredients the star of the show in simple but refined dishes. Wine pairings were well selected as the service was friendly and welcoming. All very reasonably priced too. Absolutely recommended.

We had the 7 course tasting menu, and 2 of us have severe and complex allergies. The chefs coped brilliantly, even creating one totally different dish for us. The food was yummy, with one of the best main courses we have eaten anywhere. The staff were warm and welcoming. We will definitely return when we are next on The Island!

Probably the better choice for beers in Cowes, shame you get plastic glasses, it can get a bit rough later in the evening they said.

Great place to have a laugh, Dee jay was mint and shared my love for drum and bass however if you see a larger sized woman with blonde hair half shaved don’t brush past her or give try to give her a very well intended and assumed to be consensual soft hug by means of congratulations for singing a song on karaoke as it may well result in you being removed and the police knocking on your mates hotel door shortly after…. Fortunately I was there to assure him he did nothing wrong but the next unfortunate gentleman might not be so lucky and could end up in jail for who knows what crazy accusation! Great place though and if allowed would love to return

We had a wonderful evening at the Vectis tavern after a brilliant week sailing. Good music and flowing drinks. I realised I had left my jumper behind the next day and the tavern kindly posted it to my home address the next day !! Lovely

We came in to watch the 6 Nations after a days sailing. Other yachts had the same idea. Beer was good and at half time bowls of crisps and nibbles came out. What more can you ask for! Definitely worth a visit if you are thirsty.

I went to this pub on Thursday 09/04/2023. A drunk guy was there and he threatened me. He said that he will harass a part of my body for no reason. I reported this to the staff and the security, and nothing happened. I am not recommending a place that doesn't protect its customers. Terrible experience for tourists.

First time here, although know Robert from Thompson’s when in Newport. Great surroundings, the building is a wonderful venue for great food, drink and hospitality! Greated at the door by Robert, who took our coats, then shown to a wonderful table to gaze at the sea, whilst in the warmth. The restaurant is bathed in delicate colours, peacocks navy blues and amazing art, with a subtle art deco theme (my wife may disagree with me!). We opted to go for mains, my wife had a delicate fish pie, oozing flavour yet so light but filling, I had the roast pork. A really meaty couple of cuts with the biggest Yorkshire pudding I’ve ever seen. Square roast potatoes with a hint of celeriac puree. Really stuffing, fresh vegetables on the side and a bucket of pork gravy that oozed onto the plate!! Dessert was obviously treacle tart plus a surprise of an anniversary plate for our wedding anniversary! Thank you!! Robert has bought along his head chef from Thompsons who does an impressive job driving a first class kitchen! Great work! Looking forward to seeing how the renovations are coming along downstairs next time we visit! Promise not to leave so long next time! Kathryn and Simon.

This place is really quite special. We popped in for coffee, had breakfast and then ended up having a tour of the wine cellar and private dining areas. Really happy staff makes a really happy environment for us to enjoy. Robert Thompson should be really proud of what he has created. We will definitely be back with friends for lunch or dinner.

This was our first visit to Heron in Cowes and it did not disappoint. The waiter was friendly and informative, talking us through the menu and what he recommended. Two of our party had the ‘stand alone’ meals which were good value, the other two had the tapas type option. All were delicious. We would love to go back!

Booked for a family birthday lunch celebration. Great friendly service with outstandingly delicious food. We were the only customers so the vibe was perhaps a bit lacking, but hey, it’s all about the food really. The lemon curd crème brûlée would absolutely be my choice as a condemned woman’s last meal! 🤣

5 courses and 5 cocktails served with enthusiasm and panache! From the Instagram ready appetiser through to the delectable final espresso martini, every sip and bite was savoured. Even during a busy Cowes Week evening service and kitchen was of a very high standard. We left fulfilled and content after a wonderful dining experience and overall it reflected good value! Thank you and we’ll definitely be back!

Absolutely the most wonderful dinning experience from start to finish. The food was outstanding as was the service and attentiveness of the staff...our wedding anniversary was made all the special for it absolutely recommend and we will definitely be going back, we had been to their ryde branch several times and it was always fantastic but Heron at cowes is on a totally different level, such a relaxed calm environment totally amazing, well done guys 🙌

One of our favourite places, we have been to both the Ryde and Cowes venues and both as amazing as the other. Faultless meal all tasted fantastic, cannot wait for our next visit.

Got chips with so much salt on it that we couldn’t eat more than one bite each . The name of the takeaway is salty’s but that doesn’t mean you put tons of salt on food and make it inedible!

One of the best pizza’s on the island! Lovely and fresh and fantastic dough! We collected for take away. We did have to wait a while as they were busy with a function but it was worth it! Unfortunately they didn’t have any cans of drink that we ordered so we had to have open cups, which wasn’t up to date with the website but we would highly recommend for meat or vegan food as well!

We spent the evening here on Saturday 22/7/23 whilst on our honeymoon 💕. Amazing seafood restaurant the ambience in the restaurant is lovely. The food was outstanding and service was very friendly, we then went down and burnt off our meal singing and dancing to the live music in the bar, amazing atmosphere! The taxi service is absolutely fantastic! If you book a table for food Brad will collect you and drop you back afterwards! Overall outstanding and we will definitely be back when we are next over. We visited for a lunch in the beautiful upstairs dining room. The staff were very friendly and polite and their attention to detail was fantastic. We had the fish of the day which was monkfish, a very generous portion cooked on the bone. It was a beautiful piece of fish cooked to perfection and served with broccoli and buttered potatoes. Our starters were superb and the whitebait was crispy and delicious as was a beautifully crafted crab salad with charred grapefruit. The crowning glory was the dessert of jelly with cucumber sorbet, just the most perfect dessert which felt like eating a Pimms. One of the cleverest desserts I’ve seen in a long time. My dessert was the chocolate and banana dessert, it was rich and indulgent and sates that sweet hit at the end of a meal. If visiting Yarmouth do not pass up a chance to eat here. Incredible food and amazing hospitality from the staff!

Visited wed evening - Says it’s open online, says it’s open on the chalk board outside. But closed - quite irritating as came over from Lymington to eat.

Salty's is an absolute gem of a seafood focussed restaurant. Both the exterior and interior were high end, with an excellent menu and wine options. The food was extremely well cooked and presented, and tasted so fresh it could have jumped straight out of the nearby Solent onto the plate. So why not a full 5 stars....the only alcohol free beer option was San Miguel, now for those who've tried it I know you won't be drinking it again! The bread sharing starter oddly, didn't turn up with any side plates and really needed oil and balsamic to dip into, especially if focaccia is in the mix! Would I visit again, absolutely! Would like to see a few more options on the alcohol free side and maybe some more chilled music as it was erm rather eclectic given the quality of the food on the plate. Great job guys, can't wait to return!

We popped in to Saltys for an early dinner with our daughter last night. Honestly the best pizza we’ve ever had! The team are so friendly and welcoming. Great atmosphere and decor. Absolutely a 5 star review. The only thing that could improve it would be if they had beer on tap. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Best meal of the holiday... I had fish and chips with mushy peas.... Amazing, my wife had a steak pie and chips, the kids had a prawn sandwich that my son said was simply the best. Oh and a sea food starter that was great. Not badly priced at all.

Had dinner here on Friday. The staff was very nice and friendly. The place was cozy, and the food was good. It was served quick and hot!

The pub is an absolute delight to visit. It's such a fun place to explore. The food is also great. Excellent chips and very fresh crab in the seafood platter. Everyone is so friendly. It's right next to the ocean. Quite pricey but I've heard that's just how it is in isle of wight. Overall lovely experience.

I had a fantastic experience at The Kings Head! I ordered the mac and cheese and can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever had - rich, creamy, and full of flavour. My mum had the scampi light bite and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Despite the pub being busy with lots of reservations, the staff kindly found us a table, which we really appreciated. They also went above and beyond by letting me use a plug to charge my phone, which was such a thoughtful touch. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was genuinely kind and attentive. I’ll definitely be returning and would highly recommend The Kings Head to anyone in the area!

Went for a meal on Friday evening with family, my wife’s food had no resemblance to that described on the menu, peppered beef salad, she sent it back. No one came to ask if she would like an alternative and no apology, she had to go to the bar to ask for something else. I had the catch of the day, lemon sole on new potatoes, the fish was tiny and the meal tasteless. My son ordered pork belly which although tasty was 50% fat. The seafood starter was good. £100 wasted, we won’t eat here again. Service terrible.

Recently reopened the Kings Head is conveniently situated in the centre of Yarmouth. We had a great Sunday roast there this week and they were one of the few places serving after 2:30 in the afternoon. Good service and good food. Friendly staff. Came out stuffed.

Just had the most amazing lunch. We had the sharing seafood platter absolutely delicious, fresh and perfect. The bar person was so friendly, helpful and accommodating. Wonderful
