Seafood restaurant
Beach pavillion
"The Hut" is a laid-back beachfront restaurant with a terrace that offers seafood specialties and grilled meats. The restaurant provides a relaxed dining experience with its wide open sun-bleached decking and views of the azure blue sea stretching out over the Solent, reminiscent of dining in the Caribbean. It is open all day during the summer months, allowing guests to enjoy lunch in the sun or candlelit dinner without the need for formal wear.
Had a lovely evening here, watching the sunset from the deck. Food was amazing - the king prawns really were tasty. Would also recommend the sea bass! Service was friendly and relaxed; they even brought out a water bowl for our dog. Atmosphere was great, with a couple of birthdays, but nothing raucous. Sides up due to the wind, but temperature was just right with the roof open. Would certainly recommend for a special occasion or as a treat - prices are quite high. But the experience, friendly service and the wonderful food was worth it.

What a little gem. Recommended to my friend so we thought we’d give it a go and we wasn’t disappointed. Fabulous setting watching the boats go by and some being brought to the jetty to use The Hut. Food was great apart from a crabs shell left in one meal. Service was excellent and catered for my two friends with allergy’s. We were there for lunch so had more light bites than main meals.
Kirstin G — Google review
First time dining at The Hut and I was impressed with the location and atmosphere. Both are top notch. The option of the boat service looked excellent, and the seating and décor matched the relaxed, coastal vibe perfectly. The food was good overall. The sauces accompanying the steak were excellent and the presentation of the Surf and Turf was great. However, for the price I expected a little more. The steak was slightly chewy, and we were not given a steak knife, which made it harder to cut into smaller pieces. The lobster was very enjoyable and the cocktails were spot on with a great balance of flavor. One small detail I really appreciated was that I asked for a Coke to be brought out 20 minutes after my first drink, and it arrived exactly as requested which deserves bonus points. The automatic service charge. It feels impersonal, and asking to have it removed just feels awkward. I know this is a common practice now, not unique to this restaurant, but I am not a fan of the trend. Bathroom stalls were a little small but well furnished.
Keiran B — Google review
I really loved the whole experience here. I had heard mixed reviews, but for us it was wonderful, maybe because we went in the off season when it wasn’t too busy. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the vibe and aesthetic were perfect. It did not disappoint. Our favourites were the cod croquettes, tiger prawns, sourdough, and the soup. We would definitely come back as it was one of our favourite meals on the island, if not the best.

Outstanding location, superb service, friendly staff, excellent food, cool ambiance. Just a great lazy, stress free lunch. The fish Tacos are amazing, in fact all the seafood was amazing. You simply have to go.
Seamus M — Google review
I had been looking forward to coming for some time and very glad I was able to check it off my list. I was going solo for lunch so I was not able to make a reservation so I arrived at opening minute and it was already hopping. They were kind enough to get me a seat in the bar area within a couple minutes which was a very nice area out of the busyness of the main dining area so I didn’t mind. I ordered an array of smaller plates and everything was really really outstanding. The service was lovely, quick and attentive. The plates were served beautifully and tasted fresh and with rich flavors in each dish. I think it lived up to the hype, definitely make reservations at any time of day. Bonus was seeing the unbelievable 2 forward control Land Rovers they have.

An exceptional restaurant with stunning views. The seafood selection was fantastic, atmosphere fantastic. The food was exceptional and the service was great. The food took a while to arrive but definitely worth the wait. Highly recommended 🌟

Excellent if you like seafood. Staff very polite and super efficient. Quite expensive though. Recommended but gets very busy, so book your table.

Modern European restaurant
The Terrace is a charming harbor-side restaurant located in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, offering stunning views of the waterfront and Yarmouth Castle. The restaurant features two lovely outdoor terraces furnished with Bridgman furniture, as well as glass shelters to ensure a delightful dining experience regardless of the weather. Visitors can enjoy the contemporary dining room adorned with local art and design while savoring the best produce from the Isle of Wight.
Wow is all I can say about this place. One of the best meals we've had in recent years. The food was the best we've ever eaten on the whole of the Isle of Wight, and matched only by a few places we've eaten at. Add to this young staff, who were helpful, polite, and couldn't do enough for you made it a superb experience. The location above the ferry terminal gives interesting views if you want to sit outside. This is one I'd definitely book a table in advance.
Garry ( — Google review
Such a lovely location, great seating outside and inside, however really poor service and questionable food. A couple of our party was running late, which we informed the staff, however they went on to ask us several more times, when they would be here (we was ordering drinks 🍷 and it was not busy). When they arrived, we were seated on two separate tables, which could have easily been put together. After rushing us to be seated, then took a while to take our food order (so what was the rush). I had the cod, it was lovely (have this if you go, nothing else), a few friends had the rump steak which was chewy and not edible, a couple of friends couldn’t eat it and one exchanged it for a chicken dish. Rump steak should never be chewy and to be told it always is and dismissed was unacceptable….source better quality steaks! Also, i really don’t know how my friends ate the cauliflower dish, it looked like a burnt lump of charcoal but we were all hungry by this point. Again, staff took a long time to come take our dessert order (even less busy at the point), then they proceeded to bring us the bill even though we hadn’t had the pudding yet! Rushed, not bothered, rushed, not bothered….make up your mind! Nice touch that they brought out 2 birthday ladies a Birthday plate with a small chocolate pudding on, would have been better before bringing puddings out (just a suggestion)! Please Check your bill… steaks were priced wrongly and we were charged more than what it stated on the menu, drinks added to the bill which we definitely didn’t have (a group of ladies aren’t Ale drinkers) and madness to the point, the member of staff had to refund us money. Overall experience was very poor and disappointing. Such a shame for such a beautiful location!

We didn’t eat and only had one drink each however the ladies who served us were incredibly kind and wonderful. Dog water for our puppy given and great friendly service. Special shout to Ronnie! What is not to love!! Thank you.

The food was amazing and the staff was lovely. Everything was presented nicely as well.

What a lovely find. We were early for the ferry and didn’t want to wait in the terminal, but the terrace is right above. Charming staff who were also very helpful Good views, very clean and lovely vibe. The only shame was there was no breakfast on offer when we got there, but the tea was good and the banana bread divine.
Jon B — Google review
First time visit and will definitely return . Helpful, attentive and friendly staff, especially Ruby. Every course was just right. We had the Sunday roast. Meat perfectly cooked, good portions and hot. Followed with a caramelised banana and shortbread which again was just right. Prices reasonable for great food (roast £19 pp).
Tim P — Google review
Lovely mothers day meal here. Very good service, caring and accommodating staff. Great views! The lamb shank was especially lovely ! This is the second time I have eaten here - the first was for breakfasts which were fantastic too! Only reason not a 5 was that the roast could’ve done with more veggies. Will definitely go again as there were so many lovely starters to choose from, I need to try the rest!

Both the view & the food are Amazing! We've had a good time to celebrate my friend's birthday. Highly recommend this restaurant if you have a time to visit Isle of Wight. Remember to book before your visit.

Pub
Restaurant
Nestled in the charming village of Godshill, The Taverners is a delightful pub that embodies the essence of local dining. This quaint establishment prides itself on serving dishes crafted from ingredients that are either caught, foraged, or hunted nearby. With a menu that changes with the seasons, guests can indulge in traditional favorites alongside unique offerings like salt-roasted pig face paired with homemade pork faggot and fresh vegetables sourced from their own garden.
The service was amazing…however outdone by the quality of the food and the portions are good value for money. Would definitely recommend a visit. NOTE: Council parking just down the road

Very warm welcome by the owner. Lots of open table space. Full of style and caricature a really well presented old fashioned feeling English pub-restaurant. Very well done to all the staff. The food was excellent too.

Popped in for Sunday lunch which was ok. Drinks were fine also. Deserts were abit hit and miss, my daughter had waffles which were that hard she couldn't cut them, but yhe treacle sponge was lovely..

Came here around 1.30pm and it was totally dead which was surprising considering how busy the villiage was, now I see why. We ordered a simple panini, chicken fajitas and cheesy chips. After 45 minutes of waiting (remember the place is empty) the waitress finally comes out to announce there has been electrical issues in the kitchen, another 10 minutes or so we were served with probably one of the most disgusting meals I've been presented since living on the island. The panini was stale and horrid, the chips look like they had just been left in the cooker during the 'issues' The fajitas were ok or at least the chicken was, the bread part was more like a hard taco shell. For £50 this was absolutely less than impressive and I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone
Alex V — Google review
Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend this pub for food. There was only one server for everything on a Saturday (orders, drinks, running the food, and clearing up) and the food was poor quality. I ordered the ‘sausage, mash, peas and caramelised gravy’ - it was the cheapest possible sausages with zero taste and Bisto gravy at best. No one came to check on our meals. It felt like they were just cutting costs. There are plenty of high quality Island pubs where I would rather spend my money!
Ella — Google review
We booked very last minute for our anniversary and were greeted by very friendly staff. We took a long time to decide what we wanted and the waitress was so patient with us. We had the salt and pepper chicken strips for a starter; pie & mash and sausages and mash for mains. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. Would definitely return again soon :) thank you to the lovely lady who served us this evening.
Cloe D — Google review
We had a lovely meal thank you. The beef was so tender in the casserole. Very generous portion sizes, quick service and a great choice of food for the family. My son wants to make sure we come again next holiday.
Elizabeth F — Google review
I booked for sunday lunch here having flicked through reviews, thought it seemed nice and the food looked good. My first red flag should have been the availability on a Sunday when all the other well rated pubs were full. Our arrival was fine, friendly girls serving. As more and more people came in it seemed to be unorganised and chaotic. We ordered a small for my son with one meat, I had a duo and my partner had a trio. The wait for food was long and when the food arrived, you couldn't tell whose was who as the portions were a joke. The meat looked old and it was the thinnest slices, cold yorkshires and cold potatoes that both were not clearly prepared in the kitchen and were likely pre made. Nice choice of veg, but again likely microwaved as it went cold quickly. My son (3) had lamb and gagged because the lamb was so chewy. Plenty of other people were annoyed by the wait time and the food across the restaurant was far below average. I felt sorry for the serving staff who were having to deal with the errors made by kitchen/managers. Really annoyed as we love a roast and wanted to kick off our holiday with a decent roast on a Sunday. We ate the food as the likelihood at gone half 2 on a Sunday of finding anywhere else was likely slim. Left pretty unhappy at spending money on below average food. Hopefully the new management read these reviews and rectify the problems!

The Garlic Farm Shop and Restaurant is a specialist farm shop with a restaurant that offers home-grown garlic and an array of garlic-inspired products. Located near the Sandown-Newport cycle path, it provides an opportunity for visitors to explore the extensive grounds and learn about garlic production. The farm also offers tours of Arreton Valley by foot or tractor, providing a fun day out for families.
Definitely worth visiting this farm that you could easily spend your whole afternoon there. The place is well kept and all the staff were really friendly. Highly recommended!! The farm shop is really nice (in both look and smell) and the products looked really good in quality. We definitely loaded ourselves with lots of garlics 🤣🤣 The restaurant is packed during lunch. Unfortunately we didn't make a booking so we ended up just having some scones, cheese board and ice cream after lunch time. The lunch menu looks really nice though! Oh yes, the staff at the restaurant also treat our pet tortoise Mochi a proper served free strawberry =) We will definitely revisit again in the future!!

🌟The Garlic Farm – Sandown, Isle of Wight🌟 A lovely stop! The shop is nicely kept – clean, well presented, and everything is laid out in a way that’s really appealing. There’s a great range of garlic-themed goodies, perfect for gifts or personal treats. I also bought a bottle of Cold Garlic Beer to try – an interesting one! To me, it tasted a bit like a watery Guinness. Not really to my taste, but I can see how some people might enjoy it for the novelty. Plenty of free parking made the visit easy and stress-free. Definitely worth a stop if you’re nearby!
Michael K — Google review
I love the Garlic Farm. Nice walk around the area. Spend loads of money on garlic related bits. Have all the free samples you can eat. I mean try little bits of each. Took a massive amount of the vampire hot sauce. Way hotter than I expected. So that was fun.
Matt P — Google review
Came here after finding this place on Google and oh my it didn't disappoint. There is soo much to do here with the family and has a wide variety of products that are just soo tasty. We also went for breakfast here and it was lovely, wonderfully presented and came rather fast after we ordered, and was served with their own 2 kinds of ketchup (the black garlic ketchup was amazing but the garlic ketchup was too vinegary in my opinion) it was a good breakfast however my criticism of this is that it would be better with chargrilled bacon rather than having hot held bacon (could definitely tell it was hot held bacon as it was starting to turn a bit leathery) also maybe having the addition of a hash brown or black/white pudding. The servers were lovely and helpful people and the coffees that we got were amazing quality. If your in the IOW then definitely take a detour here as it will be worth your time.
Grant C — Google review
I read all the reviews before visiting and it was a pleasure! The restaurant was fantastic! We pre booked and had the nicest garlicky lunch! Too bad for people who don't like garlic! The shop was lovely with so many garlic products. We bought different varieties of garlic and vampire slayer sauce which is v hot and garlicky. The farm walk wasn't good enough, it would be better to take a guided tour as v could not appreciate much walking by ourselves. We did not see any crops as well. But restaurant and shop is a fantastic visit if you are in the area. Wonderful experience!
Hina R — Google review
Wonderful! Gorgeous setting, fabulous food, and so much delicious garlic. We stayed at the Garlic Farm for a short escape to the island in September. The cottage was perfect. Lovingly decorated and perfect for a family of 4. A big highlight of the weekend was the Farm Tour. Our tour guide (and one of the farm owners) Colin is incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining. He clearly deeply cares for the farm and for the farm guests. Colin took so much time and patiently answered all our questions. What the family have built on the Garlic Farm is extraordinary! We will definitely be back. From The Goodwins

A highly recommended place to go for the nature enthusiasts. The farm is huge and presents a detailed history of garlic. Their shop is very nice and have huge collection of garlic based products. Overall, it was a nice place to visit.

Exceptionally welcomed by the Collins family, accompanied by his captivating stories, we not only had a fantastic time but also enjoyed Michelin-standard meals (as an ex-Michelin* chef myself I recognise freshness), so fresh and garlicky. We highly recommend their shop, restaurants, Airbnb, and Yurth tent, as well as their garlic beer, which is a must-try!!

For my wife's birthday. There are 4 Michelin restaurants on the IOW. I chose to eat here simply because the Menu was more to her taste. 2 course lunch with 2 🍸 cocktails only £77.00 . Great quality food, extremely well presented. Clearly fresh food served. I give this restaurant 5*'s. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable about the food they will serving. They also had all signed a birthday card to my wife which was waiting on the table. Well done and thank you. Greatly appreciated.

My family and I celebrated my mums 60th birthday here and it was probably some of the best service I’ve experienced and made the occasion very special. The Red Lion is a traditional stone-floored country pub that has won three Isle of Wight Dining Pub of the Year awards and is featured in the Michelin Guide. The cozy and classic chic atmosphere, complete with a fireplace for winter and a beer garden for sunny days, makes it an inviting spot. Visitors can enjoy local produce from the daily-changing menu and even bring their four-legged friends along.
Hannah and her team took such wonderful care of our party of three and offering up wonderful recommendations. My one tip would be to save room for desserts!! We had three and all of them were equally delicious! The rhubarb pannacotta, the dark chocolate slice and the sticky toffee pudding were finger licking good and I couldn’t decide which one I liked the best. For the mains, the triple cooked chips with the fish as well as the pea puree was excellent! Both fish dishes, especially the tomato jam and the smoked bacon tortellini in squid ink that came with the Sea Bass was out of this world! My lamb cooked 3 ways had the most amazing sauces accompanying the protein. We’d definitely absolutely return! Great service and absolutely amazing food and atmosphere.

Hadn’t visited in almost 19 years. A special place for me and my partner to return to for lunch💗 Welcomed by the lovely staff and enjoyed such a nice steak, cooked to perfection. Absolutely delicious. Love the pub and the setting. It’s cosy, inviting and just like we remembered it.

Felt very lucky to get a table and even luckier with the food. Stone bass came beautifully presented with asparagus and the steak and ale pie was with greens and the creamiest mash. A rhubarb and custard choice bun to share was a perfect ending. Great beers made it a perfect dinner after the Robert Hooke trail. Highly recommended!

I do not have words to describe the food that Sean Jeffers magics up in this beautiful pub. Consistently excellent, I was here (once again) for my 50th birthday and genuinely cannot think of any restaurant in the world I’d rather have been at. The beef crumpet should be world famous - but the modesty, friendliness and unpretentiousness is what makes the Red Lion so fantastic. A brilliant pub that serves the best food on the island. Exemplary!

First time visitors to IoW, and luckily our B&B host recommended the Red Lion. Exceptional food well above average pub offerings. Attentive and friendly service. Plates were nicely presented and flavour pairings were good. We shared the cauliflower tartlet sharing plate. For main I had Catch of the Day, which was stone bass. The various accompaniments on the plate gave a variety of tastes and textures. My dessert was the choux bun; the lime cream filling balanced the strawberry bun nicely.

Only write reviews when unhappy with the experience or have found a gem, this place is an absolute gem and should be shouted about. Great service and delicious hot and well presented plates. The Parsnip and Mushroom soup was so good we got the recipe from the kitchen. The three large Sausage and Bubble & Squeak dish was fantastic, others had the Pie, and Ham Egg and chips that could not be finished. Would fully recommend.

Saw this place in a holiday magazine. And wanted to try it. One hell of a journey to get there, and some of the narrowest roads I've ever encountered. But it was worth it. Had an excellent meal outside overlooking the sea, up on the cliffs. Wonderful views . Staff all friendly and helpful. Drinks fair priced. As was the food which was homemade and delicious. The place itself is looking rather tired and in need of some tlc As are the toilets .
Cutnedge69 — Google review
Had Sunday dinner, waited 50 minutes. Roast pork had been cooked, sliced and left to dry so became tough, broccoli was blanched and was too hard to cut with a dinner knife. Conversations held on the car park confirmed that if the establishment was to continue serving food like this they would lose the custom of the locals as well as the tourists as word would get around. Hopefully the establishment takes heed of the comments and produces food edible for all including the elderly that frequent the pub. Admittedly we were very disappointed.
Stephen B — Google review
Think £162 for a room overlooking car park is expensive. The room was clean and comfortable although bed didn't feel king size and unfortunately the pub was really busy all afternoon and all we could hear were the toilet doors banging and hand dryers so couldn't really relax in the torrential weather. The manager did try his best to understand and we had some complementary wine. The evening meal was slow service but delicious food, probably the best fresh sea bream I have ever eaten. Likewise breakfast was well cooked and presented. I just wanted it to feel special and expected more at that price point for one night. We did report leaking shower unit as water ran all over the bathroom floor soaking the basket that contained the towels. Love Bembridge for walking the beach but will have to find an alternative place to stay but would recommend the food.

Our group of 10 people stopped here for an after dinner drink at sunset. As we have noticed in most local establishments, all orders must be placed and paid for by the customer at the bar. The staff was very pleasant, drinks fine and the ocean view from the outdoor seating magnificent. I really enjoyed a short walk on the beach accessible by fairly steep and uneven steps. The small parking space by the inn was full, we had to park on the street and walk quite a distance.

We visited the Crab and Lobster back in September to sample the Hungry Bear Roast three meat sharing platter and it was exceptional, possibly the best roast dinner we have ever had!!! Re-booked for my partners birthday last Sunday and again ordered the sharing platter. Unfortunately, what we received was nowhere near as good on terms of quality and volume. Beef and Pork was so wafer thin and not thick cut like before. Chicken was over seasoned with garlic, undercooked roast potatoes and raw brocolli. Such a shame as the 'massive' Pig in blanket and stuffing was still exceptional and exactly how we remembered. We did complain and was offered drinks but we were all so disappointed that we paid the bill and left. We did find out when we paid that the usual 'hungry bear' chef wasn't cooking that day so something had clearly gone wrong on the day. So utterly disappointment as it was our 'go to' place for Sunday Roast.

We Had a roast on Sunday the whole thing was a disaster. I don’t eat pork so asked for it to be substituted with lamb for a three meat sharing platter. I received pork and lamb. So let the waitress know. Received lamb and freezing cold chicken. Not sure where the third meat beef was ? Asked for mint sauce didn’t receive it. Received tap water with no ice. Broccoli was solid. Couldn’t cut it with a knife. Went to toilet urine and paper all over floor and it stank of stale urine. Very dirty. Glanced at bar also very dirty floor. Not impressed with food hygiene either as on way out we walked found open kitchen back door with a large metal tray of Raw chicken left right next to the open door when flies could easily get in as no fly screen. Not impressed and would defo not recommend. Such a shame as I really don’t think lessons have been learned from a one star food hygiene report in July 2025.

So so so amazing. I honestly think this is one of the best restaurants experienced. In fact ‘restaurant’ doesn’t do it justice because it sounds a bit traditional, and this is just incredible. An informal, small, intimate restaurant. Exquisite and inventive food (Adam’s cooking is off the chart - flavours are amazing, quality ingredient sourcing is high on the agenda) , Ruby is the best host - kind, professional, fun and makes amazing cocktails. Just go…. ☺️, but book ahead.

My dad and I visited True Food and treated ourselves to the 5 course tasting menu. It was so worth it! Each course was beautifully presented with alot of effort put into the dishes. Everyone was really friendly and the service was on point. Thanks for a great evening, I'm sure we will be back soon!

Unbelievable meal tonight - incredibly creative dishes like nothing we’ve had before. Including duck sausage, lamb laksa sea bream risotto with tempura scallops. Lovely staff, great atmosphere. They managed to get us in last notice at a bar table. Really special dinner - thank you so much.

True Food Kitchen – A Standout Dining Experience in Ventnor During my visit to True Food Kitchen in Ventnor on 25/07/2025, I was genuinely impressed by the outstanding quality of the food. The menu is clearly crafted with care, featuring fresh, thoughtfully sourced ingredients that shine in every dish. The highlight of my meal was without a doubt the Roast Pork Belly — it was exceptional. The pork was beautifully tender, cooked to perfection, and full of flavour. What really stood out was the skin — instead of the usual crispy crackling, it was soft, rich, and incredibly delicious, melting in the mouth and adding a luxurious texture that complemented the meat wonderfully. It was a unique and memorable take on a classic dish. Everything else on the plate was equally well-executed, from the seasonal sides to the expertly balanced sauces. The presentation was elegant without being overdone, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was warm, inviting, and relaxed. If you’re visiting the Isle of Wight and love good food, True Food Kitchen is a must-try. And if the Roast Pork Belly is on the menu — don’t miss it! Will definitely visit True Food Kitchen again in the very near future, and highly recommend this restaurant to everyone 🥰

Wow!! Couple from London visiting Isle of Wight for an Autumnal getaway. Spent ages browsing for the best places to eat in Isle of Wight and True Food did not disappoint! We had already fallen in love with the town of Ventnor and decided to visit True Food for dinner. Intimate, relaxed dining experience with great service. Preparation of food and drinks on display and the most amazing flavours. Wasabi Sorbet!!! Will be recommending to friends and family!

Another lovely lunch at TFK Such a warm and relaxed vibe here. Personal touches, food super fresh and zinging with flavour. Most dishes are adaptable to gluten free. The deserts are divine so go easy with things and leave time and space to enjoy them with their gorgeous salted caramel espresso martini. Always best to book and always worth the journey 😋

Smoking Lobster in Ventnor is a popular dining spot that offers locally sourced produce with a pan-Asian twist. The restaurant prides itself on serving dishes like grilled lobster with miso butter, tender tempura monkfish, and seared scallops. What sets this place apart is its own fishing boat catching seasonal fish right outside the restaurant, ensuring the freshest seafood possible.
Absolutely everything about our meal here was perfect, the staff were lovely, the food was fantastic and the drinks were delicious, I wish I lived next door! I highly recommend dining here, we havent stopped talking about it since. We ordered cocktails to start which were different and well made, we had a fish platter to share which was plenty for two but then we ordered some more bits just because they were so tasty not because we needed it! Finished on another cocktail, absolutely superb!

Fantastic restaurant! I chose this spot for my husband’s birthday after reading the great reviews, and it did not disappoint. The staff were incredibly friendly and helped me keep the celebration a surprise. The sea view from the restaurant was beautiful, and the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!

It was an amazing meal in lovely surroundings and the staff were attentive in just the right amounts. We had the Seafood platter which was simply amazing and has to be the best of its kind we have ever had. We have already booked to go back for our anniversary in June this year!

We had a fantastic experience at the smoking lobster for an anniversary lunch. The restaurant is on Ventnor seafront, with great sea views from the light filled restaurant. The food is perfection and the service is attentive and friendly. A real treat!

We booked this restaurant for wedding anniversary celebration. We love seafood and interested by fusion food idea. The restaurant is packed and we couldn’t find a reservation on weekend so had to book Tuesday. It was okay as we had the time. But I’d highly recommend booking in advance. Even on a Tuesday, the restaurant was so busy! The seafood platter was very very fulfilling and it was a good mixture of all kinds of seafood for 2 people’s portion. We ordered kids meal on the side for 3Yo. They also have omakase but they wouldn’t be able to offer omakase with additional food from the menu which makes it very limited. Because we are 3 people, 1 being a toddler, ordering 3 omakase would be too much and 2 would be too little according to the restaurant. But overall it was great experience! The restaurant is by the sea, on good days, the view can be great.

We had the most wonderful stay at The Hambrough. We had both rooms with the balcony’s and they were beautiful. So relaxing to sit out on in the morning and evening. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and well equipped. We had a delicious breakfast both days and felt welcomed and well looked after by all staff. I would love to stay again one day.

We only ate at the Hambrough and the food was excellent. My only negative comment was the actual dining area itself as it was lacking character. The atmosphere was slightly soulless, however the food was absolutely superb and made up for this entirely! The duck was cooked to absolute perfection and the service was without fault. The overall experience was absolutely fantastic and we will be returning again!

I booked Studio room 1 for a single night. Large bed, 2/3 person sofa and then in the bay window 2 armchairs. Great bathroom with a large bath and a good sized shower cubicle. Sounds large? Yes it was and then there's the balcony with sea views over Ventnor harbour. None of this craning your neck to catch a glimpse of the sea, this was a proper face on sea view. Great choice of breakfasts at an extra charge. Helpful and friendly staff. So would I stay there again? Absolutely, 100%.

Booked a stay at The Hambrough as part of a surprise weekend trip to the Isle of Wight for my Wife, Emily. Thank you. 😊 Food, drink, accommodation and hospitality was perfect. The Hambrough comes very highly recommended. 😁 Having recently got married 2 years to the very day of our engagement, we'll definitely be back to celebrate our Anniversary in years to come. ☀️🥂👰‍♀🤵🥂☀️ Thanks again. 😎

5* IT IS NOT...... the hotel is very tired and looks nothing like the pictures you see on the website. The room was large, overlooking the sea which was great. However, the bathroom although large and bright had peeling paint, dirty limescale around the shower screen and bath tiles, the towel rail came away from the wall when I took a towel from there, the bath stand and radiator were rusty. My husband dropped something near to the sofa and had to look underneath, well looks like it had never been moved to be hoovered and cleaned underneath. The dining room was also very tired with peeling paint around the skirting. It is just a very tired hotel in need of a good refurb!!!! On a positive note, the staff were friendly and polite. The continental breakfast included was small and not buffet style, you had to order what you wanted off the menu and if you want hot breakfast, you have to pay extra. We ordered the fruit plate with yoghurt, it was 1 strawberry, 2 small wedges of water melon, 3 slivers of honeydew melon and 3 slivers of pineapple with a tablespoon of yoghurt!!!!! Now we have stayed in 3* hotels were continental buffet breakfast and hot breakasts are included in the price. So you can have your continental, then order anything from the hot food menu. The prices charged for this hotel room are too expensive for what you get. It is definitely not 5*. We have stayed in 3* hotels which had better facilities and breakfasts. At the moment, I would not class this hotel as even a 3*
Julie B — Google review
Our stay at the hotel was okay, but it fell short of the 5-star standard, especially for £150 per night. The room was quite small, and the mould around the windows was disappointing for a hotel at this price point. Breakfast wasn’t included—something we’d expect at this rate—and instead of a buffet, meals were served à la carte. Unfortunately, we later learned the hotel had lost their chef, which explained why the restaurant was closed. We were really looking forward to the dining experience, so this was a letdown. On a positive note, the staff were friendly and professional, which helped make our stay more pleasant. However, between the room condition, extra charges, and missing culinary experience, we don’t feel the hotel lives up to its rating or price.

Smoking Lobster in Cowes and Ventnor offers a unique dining experience with its Pan-Asian cuisine and Japanese Inspired Izakaya Bar. The family-run restaurants are known for their exceptional food, specialty cocktails, and social atmosphere. The menu is a fusion of Asian flavors inspired by the chef's Chinese-Italian heritage and love for travel in Asia. Using fresh local seafood caught with their own fishing boat and lobster pots, the innovative menu has gained two AA Rosettes.
Absolutely amazing! If you are GF and dairy free, you need to visit here, I was so impressed with the service and food! These are not just people in the kitchen, these are actual chefs who understand flavours, nothing was too difficult or impossible to sort out. I asked for a gf lobster sushi and they adapted it to be gluten free! I was so impressed and honestly made our whole evening meal! And Gemma was so wonderful, she went above and beyond to make sure we had the best meal and service. We had chaotic tired children lol and it wasn't a problem for her or the staff there!

Ok - here’s another winner and a lovely surprising find on a beautiful little island - Isle of White - town of West Cowes. Strangely good seafood seems illusive and not sure why considering the location - this restaurant comes to the rescue in a creative and imaginative way. The service was warm and welcoming and the restaurant is clean, well managed and nicely appointed with clean and tidy toilets (important). The food though shines with reasonable and fair prices. The flavors and presentation are first class. Very fresh and high quality ingredients and locally caught. These guys know their business and it’s “Game - On.” If you’re hungry and find yourself in Cowes - don’t miss this fine restaurant.

We came last Tuesday and had the Seafood/ fish platter. It was incredible (especially the sea bass in black bean 😋). Staff so friendly, chatty and really educated with the menu, it was a delight: I’ll add the photo of the platter to this post. We also had a great wine (sorry, don’t remember name) and sake and Japanese coffee - all good. Came again two days later for set lunch. (sorry if should be another review!) But £25 for 2 courses. We had the burger (amazing) with melting onions: Japanese fries and coleslaw. Wonderful. Second course was pud - Panna Cotta. Lovely…. if we’d not had the chocolate mousse 2 nights before, it would have been super, but that choc mousse is legendary! The first time we came here when it very first opened a few years ago, we were not impressed, but now… would not miss a visit here when in Cowes!

Quality, beautifully presented food that packs a punch of flavour. I am a planner and after finally finding some time to cycle around the Isle of Wight, I knew I would need somewhere good for lunch at the end. I looked at a lot restaurants but kept coming back to the Smoking Lobster. After 4hrs of riding around the island I was worried that being sweaty and in full Lycra this may not be the best look, but parked myself outside and the staff were only too happy serve me, even though I didn’t have a booking (there I was thinking I was a good planner!). Asahi on draught after a long ride sat outside in the sun was next level. After a short wait my food arrived and I asked for it all to come up at once. The Szechuan Lobster Katsu Maki was as pretty as a picture and had a delicious sweetness from the lobster after an initial Szechuan spicy, not hot, hit. Next up was Pan Seared Scallops in their lobster bisque with a side of jasmine rice. I asked if I could have an extra small jug of the bisque for my rice which they were happy to do. Scallops were soft and sweet and with the rich bisque, definitely something to savor. The rice with the bisque over it was something extra for me to get the carbs back in and blow my mind as the lobster bisque was one of the nicest I have ever had. Not cheapest meal but I want quality tasty food rather than plate fulls of everyday rubbish. My only critique is there needs to be an additional scallop. Standard practice is three, maybe four, for a main from my experience but as the quality and cooking was so top notch, this did not affect the overall experience; it would have just further enhanced it. Staff were lovely, friendly and engaging and I went back on the ferry with a bucket list ride ticked off and a restaurant on my “need to come back” list.

When visiting the Isle of Wight, we searched for places to eat on the island and found the Smoking Lobster and we are so pleased that we did! We had a fantastic meal and a great experience. The food was incredible - we had the black cod and scallops as starters and then fish of the day and lobster for mains - and it was all incredibly delicious. The service was also excellent. We were looked after from as soon as we entered the restaurant. Our server talked through the menu with us including all of the information about the daily specials which was incredibly helpful. Overall a fantastic experience and we are so pleased that we visited. Thank you so much!
Liam — Google review
The food here is incredibly unique and tasty. On my first visit, I thought this was going to be my new favourite restaurant! However, unfortunately on my second visit we ordered the seafood platter and left the best to last, the lobster. This was undoubtedly the highlight of the first visit having ordered a selection of dishes as well as the seafood platter. Unfortunately, on this second visit, just a few weeks after the first visit during Cowes week 2024, the lobster was foul. The second time we had the lobster here it tasted rancid and made us feel sick...unfortunately with bathroom visits following shortly thereafter. We mentioned this to the manager who only gave us a slight discount discount and didn't really seem to take it seriously. She said the kitchen would investigate, but never got back to us. The food, aside from the food poisoning is amazing, but the front of house service is pretty terrible. This includes being forgotten about for both ordering and drinks. Then being dismissed when we've had rancid lobster. I have posted photos from both my visits below.

James has taken the food to a new level here - I’m still dreaming about the beef rissole and crab custard tart! We have been here quite a few times and this is by far the best - just fabulous food and service. My only strong suggestion is the wine list needs a serious revamp as it’s not keeping up with the food. Its quality is a complete step below the food. It’s not unpleasant - don’t get me wrong - it’s inoffensive. We had the tasting wine, but there was nothing too it really, mild and quaffable. Just not quality. But DO go. With James and Hannah you are in amazing hands and in for a treat food wise!

We came as the concept of blind tasting and that they sourced locally. We went with the 7 course. The place had a lot of potential. The waitresses could have done more to explain the concept and the background of the food. The food was good but the overall service and experience made it less value for money. Also, fig sorbet being counted as a course is a bit unfair.

We had the most amazing experience at The Heron for their 7 course blind tasting. I emailed ahead of time to ask if they allow children which they were more than happy to do. They even asked if they had any dislikes so they could adjust the menu accordingly. Every single meal was beautifully crafted and was Absolutely delicious. The host was such a lovely lady as well and made our children (12 & 13) feel very grown up during the whole experience and she Was very knowledgeable about what was being served. The atmosphere was really chill and nothint Was too much trouble. We will return next time we are on the island!

All very reasonably priced too. Absolutely recommended.

A very disappointing visit to this establishment which appears to operate with a less than enthusiastic proprietor, perhaps a failing hobby! Waiting in excess of 20 minutes at the bar for a drink isn't the way to run a pub/restaurant when the place is empty. I say restaurant generously as the menu consists of just three or four options. On our visit one of the dishes chosen was a steak. After taking the order we were later informed they were 'out of steak'. How on earth do you run out of the main ingredient of one of the four dishes available. Returning again to the unattended bar a little later the reason for the pitiful service was due to staff having their meals in preference to serving customers. Not a pleasant experience and certainly won't be returning. In response to the owners comments, my review is a fair and accurate assessment of The Pointers Inn, I take a particular note of establishments to avoid in the future! If you wish I can have my fellow diners post a similar review who were all of the same opinion as me. Probably better to address the issues raised rather than try to deflect!

Had Sunday lunch here. Our first visit since the improvements they have done, and it was brilliant. Friendly and attentive staff who obviously enjoy their work (you can tell, can't you?), The food was absolutely fantastic. Roast beef, pork and lamb all tender and tasty and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. Plentiful portions too. Can't recommend this place highly enough, well worth the drive down the cliff road.

Beautiful peaceful location with lovely view, tucked away in Notton near the sea. Good sandwiches, not great burgers. We had lunch two days here. Lunch sandwiches are really nice but they missed our order and after 45 minutes I went to the bar and they brought them. The manager was really sweet and apologied 10 times and offered free drinks etc. which we didn't want. We went back for lunch today and had burgers. Not that impressed with burger quality. We specifically went back cause the food was really nice yesterday. Burgers tasted like supermarket ready made ones. The shape of them also confirmed it. Bar people for ordering weren't the friendliest!

Thanks for a fab birthday! We are an LGBTQI+ couple and booked a couple of nights at the Inn for my birthday as a mini-getaway whilst visiting family who live on the island. We noted the occasion in our booking and were given a beautiful room with a huge window overlooking the sea (this might have been a coincidence, but was lovely nonetheless!) The breakfast choices for veggies were good with an equal amount of meat options. It was also quite generously portioned with juice/coffee/cereal as well as the cooked menu. The staff were lovely. They let us leave our bags downstairs when we arrived several hours early, gave me a little birthday treat on the night we ate at the pub, and even let us hide out from some unruly pub guests in the garden when we didn't feel safe with them knowing we were staying - they handled that situation very professionally! Overall I'd say this is a great spot for a quaint and quiet experience with lovely well-equipped rooms and a cosy feel.

A very nice pub with excellent attentive service. Foodwise, I'm not sure burgers are made on site, as when I asked if the burger can be made medium rare, I was told they would ask. But in the end it was well done. Tasty, but I would have thought such a place would be a bit more flexible.

Didn't stay so Can't comment on the rooms. We popped in for an evening meal as we were staying locally and had to wait for the young lad at the service station to finish his hugely important task of fiddling with a tablet to be told we could go straight to the bar to order drinks and sit anywhere... scored some drinks £14 for a cider and a single g&t. When we went in for food, we weren't asked about reservations and told to sit anywhere. Very direct service told about missing items on the menu and left to decide £18 for an average plate of scampi and chips I felt was overpriced as were the drinks, decided to try dessert, the banana split on the specials menu was not exactly a banana split and the Baileys cheesecake was still partially frozen and buried underneath the rest of the sweet not served in a proper long dish either pretty poorly executed, partners apple crumble was clearly tinned apple with cinnamon thrown over it and warmed up with a fairly decent crumble topping still a bit cheeky at £8.50, overall this place blatantly cashes in on its location. Could be a charming local pub with hearty food but is a restaurant with a bar instead that definitely has idea's above its station.

The Fighting Cocks is a traditional pub located in Godshill, offering comfort food and a selection of real ales. The establishment features a classic atmosphere with bare beams and also boasts a spacious garden complete with a play area for kids. Despite its location between a garden center and car dealership, the pub remains popular among visitors. It has received recognition, placing third in the Best Pub category at the Red Funnel Isle of Wight Awards 2022.
We were recommended this place by a friend who comes from the island and said that this is where he goes when they go back to visit . We called for Sunday Dinner and as the pictures show, it was absolutely amazing! I had the veggie dinner. This came with three veg sausages. Tbh when I saw them I was a little disappointed as I am not a fan of that type of sausage. How wrong could I be though. They were so rich in cheese and onion and complemented the dinner so well. The others had the mega dinner each. This is a proper challenge to eat. It beat them both and the dogs combined! All the food is fresh and so yummy. A special shout out to the Yorkshire puddings and horseradish sauce. This is now our favourite Sunday dinner!!!

We were driving back to our hotel, and fancied a late lunch. We didn't know very much about the pub and were absolutely stunned at how good it was. It has a decent sized car park, all on the flat, making it suitable for those with mobility issues. A lot of people were outside on the many tables, enjoying the sunshine; but we had been outside all day and wanted a cooler position inside. The staff were very friendly and helpful; and I loved the call bells positioned on the tables, which really does seem to make it easier to serve customers. The menu is really good and there were numerous specials to select from. In the end, I chose the Ploughman's Lunch with the option to have ham, Stilton and Cheddar. The platter was seriously loaded up, with pickles, salad, fruit to add to the ham and cheese. Check the picture; it really was a substantial meal. From what I could see, other meals were easily as great a value. There was an impressive range of drinks, and I'm sure that everyone could find something to their liking. I have to say, it's a pity that the pub is not a bit closer to where I live; I would be going there on a very regular basis. If you are passing by there, please drop by; you will not regret it.

We stopped by for lunch after a long journey and were so glad we did. The food was delicious, the atmosphere cozy and welcoming, everything spotless, and the staff genuinely friendly. The menu offers a wide selection of both food and drinks. Portions are generous – even the smaller ones – so we couldn’t manage dessert this time. But we’ll definitely be coming back to try their incredible ice cream! Thank you so much for a truly lovely experience.

We booked a table for 6 for Sunday lunch easily on the website for when we came over to the IOW. We had great service from the front of house to waitress whom looked after us. We all had the Sunday lunch which was fantastic. A really great lunch. After lunch we sat in the beer garden to let the children run off all their energy on the bounce pillow and karts. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

No trip to the island, is complete with out stopping here at least once. Over the years we have been coming here, when the owner or other long term members of staff are working. They always come and say hello, ask us about our trip. Even the new faces to us are very polite. I don’t think service is slow here when they are super busy ether, the food is always piping hot, all are meals are served at the same time “handy if you wanna say grace, we just wanna tuck in personally” The food is always cooked how we like it, a great selection of options. The selection of beer is very good, my partner says the same for the cider. We’re not wine drinkers so can not honestly compliment them. It’s always clean and presentable, plenty of parking space. If you haven’t already visited the little gem of the island then what you waiting for. There big breakfast is always a favourite on the last day on the island. Will set you up a treat

A great cozy and spacious pub. Fantastic service, have a little buzzer on the table to call the server, order food, ask for the bill or cancel if mis-pressed. Staff very friendly and polite, fantastic food and big portions. Great value for money. Allowed us to do take away desserts and even asked if I wanted to have it stored in a way to heat myself at home and wrote guidance on the boxes. Fantastic experience all around, thank you

The Bargemans Rest is a popular pub in Newport that offers real ales, homemade global pub food, and live music. It is located by the riverside and provides visitors with a traditional pub experience. The pub has a buzzing atmosphere and outdoor tables for patrons to enjoy. They serve an impressive selection of beers including local brews. At night, the street illuminates, creating a romantic setting as the lights reflect on the river.
We've just held our wedding ceremony, buffet and disco here upstairs in the Sail Loft on Friday and we don't know how the location, service and communication from the team could have been any better! Dan & Jen were the leading organisers, but along with our bar team and kitchen team, they delivered a fantastic buffet, provided our guests with super bar service and presented a fabulous cake and sweet display on our behalf. We had access early to setup and afterwards to clear up, personal toilets for our party and access to a beautiful balcony all day long. We were permitted parking for ourselves, our Registrars and our DJ which helped everything run smoothly. Quite simply.. the whole experience was very competitively priced, made so easy for us and thoroughly enjoyed by all of those attending. Thank you Dan, Jen and everyone at The Bargeman’s Rest who played their part to create a magical day for us. Highly recommended to anyone in need for a function room as these lovely people know how to deliver and provide support. Peter & Jeff ❤️

If you find yourself in Newport, walk down to the harbour to The Barheman's Rest, you won't be disappointed. Such a great position, plenty of seating areas outside and in. It was quiet, but still had a lovely atmosphere. The menu was good with an excellent selection, to cater for most tastes. There was also a good choice of drinks from the bar. The staff were very helpful and polite. The pub was clean and tidy, with a great decor which suited it's surroundings. Our food arrived, well presented and looked as described. I had the home cooked Ham Sandwich, it was delicious, thick cut and moist. A most enjoyable lunch and excellent value for money. I'm really pleased we decided to explore Newport. This pub is definitely worth finding.

Nestled in the quiet streets of Newport, Burrs is a hidden gem known for its delectable British cuisine and intimate candlelit ambiance. Since 1997, this restaurant has prided itself on using locally sourced ingredients to create everything from homemade bread to decadent desserts. The menu offers a variety of European dishes with a modern twist, perfect for romantic dinners or special celebrations.
This restaurant is so good that we promptly cancelled plans for the following week and booked again. The food is simply beyond expectations, the service is wonderful and the bill was much lower than expected. Look out for the Duck with Cherries and the Lemon Curd Eton Mess. We will be making the trip down from London just to eat here.

I've been nagging my husband to take me here for years and he finally did for our 10th anniversary. Absolutely loved it here. Great service, lovely intimate atmosphere. The food was amazing and great value for money. Couldn't fault it at all and will definitely be back.
Katy B — Google review
First impressions of Burrs were that it was a little dated and rather formal. The à la carte menu was a tad pricey, but with a reasonable selection of dishes. The four of us each opted for the scallops as a starter, which were nicely seared and were complimented by asparagus and roasted proscuito ham. Then came the mains, most of which were a real let down. I ordered the pan fried duck breast, which came out pink as requested, and was quite tender. However, the sauce was insipid, with only a hint of tart black cherries and very little, if any, brandy in the mix. It also would have benefitted from being reduced down more. The others all had the red mullet for their mains. The fish was overcooked and really salty and didn't taste fresh at all. One of the razor clams wasn't open, while the others had not been purged properly and were very gritty. The one prawn on each plate was also overcooked, with a rather woolly texture, and had not been deveined. The sweets were, however, a real delight. The pina colada panna cotta was one of the best we'd ever tasted, and beautifully presented. We also really enjoyed the frozen berries and pistachio parfait. There was also a good selection of cheeses and the addition of a glass of port for an extra £5 was a nice touch. The team of young ladies who served us were all very pleasant, polite and helpful and with the exception of the very underwhelming main courses, this was otherwise a nice dining experience.

Literally the best 3 course meal IV had in a long time. Exceptional food flavours textures and colours on my plate. Also the staff were excellent and responded to all my questions and asks They have a fantastic load of gluten free options which you don't often get I am truly grateful to this place and will be smiling all the way home with the taste of cinnamon donuts and honeycomb on my lips from desert 😁
Yola — Google review
Myself and my partner came here for food a couple of months ago and we were excited as we thought it was one of the fancier food places on the Island. I got the calamari for a starter and it wasn't the best calamari I've had, but was fine. The main that was a chicken breast with tomatoes and cheese and pepperoni on top. It was fine but quite bland. I found my main to be quite small. It's quite a tightly packed restaurant inside and doesn't fit many people at a time. We were sat against the door with minimal room between our table and the one next to ours.

Went with friends who have been here before a few times. What a fantastic restaurant.. lovely menu.. not too extensive but a nice mix of dishes.. fish and meat .freshly cooked and so much attention to detail with every dish... fresh bread and olives brought to the table while choosing drinks . Lovely wine list .served by the glass half bottle and full bottle plus a wide range of ciders beer and spirits. Desserts menu to die for if you have room . Lovely polite friendly helpful staff who are not hounding you but are there if you need them ..and even the chef came out to see if everything was ok .what a lovely touch.... wouldn't hesitate to return and to recommend ❤️❤️

Both my partner and I were absolutely delighted with our meal. I had an amazing crab brûlée as a starter and a perfectly cooked sea bream. The presentation of the complimentary bread was also delightful. On top of this, the chef was really accommodating for vegan requirements. I would love to return for more meals and try the desserts.

The Royal Hotel, a grand establishment dating back to 1832, offers elegant rooms, an upscale restaurant, and an outdoor pool. It is a family-friendly hotel that goes beyond providing just the basics for children. The staff are attentive and accommodating, catering to families with young children by offering pureed meals for babies and warm milk for toddlers. This venerable grande dame on the Isle of Wight exudes an atmosphere reminiscent of a bygone era while still maintaining its vibrancy.
A hotel that actually delivers what it promises. The Royal has wonderful old school charm which is very rare these days. The Staff are very very attentive and seem genuinely interested that everything is right for you. (very rare). The pool area and garden is the highlight of this hotel...if you hit good weather you will spend all your time here. very very relaxing. The restaurant is proper old school great service restaurant. My only slight warning is that if you visit during a heatwave I would imagine the rooms are very hot (No AC)...mine (on the top floor) was warm in just daytime temperatures of 20ºC, so in 30ºC I couldn't imagine it would be quite um hot! All in all brilliant

Quaintly old school, but wonderful for that very concept. Food absolutely delicious, however as I am a vegetarian I couldn't have stayed longer than 3 days on that menu. Gardens are exquisite, the gardener should get a bonus for it's beauty and care. So why oh why is the interior of the hotel plastered with fake plants, mainly orchids. Not what you would expect in a fine hotel. Staff,as everyone says are fabulous and it's very very clean everywhere if a little tired in places, which probably adds to its charm

We had a lovely lunch at the royal. It was a place I have always wanted to go and it did not disappoint. It’s like stepping back in time. Lovely large dining hall with ample seating and enough tables for a vibrant yet chilled afternoon lunch. The food was superb. The Sunday roast was just perfect. Again the staff were so good well presented and extremely polite and friendly. It was a perfect afternoons lunch. Well done we will return.

My husband and I had a champagne cream tea at the weekend. We live locally and have had many lovely afternoons/evenings at this delightful hotel. As always the gardens are absolutely beautiful (especially as it was a blue sky sunny day) the staff attentive, professional and friendly. Although we are always happy with the food, this was by far the best cream tea we have ever had ! Enough for me to write a review as did not want this to go unnoticed. The scones were delicious and super fresh as were the finger sandwiches (I'm a vegetarian so the choice is not always exciting, but it certainly was on this occasion) and the really tasty cakes. I usually take what I can't eat home, but it was so exceptional,I managed to eat it all !!!!!! There was also no compromise with the champagne, it was top quality. Extremely high standards, arguably the best on the Island.
LUCY R — Google review
We had a wonderful afternoon tea here. The food (and tea) were fab - best scones we've ever had! Internal communication could do some work as they confirmed veggie food for us (twice) and then on the day "had to check with the kitchen", and they also forgot about the extra treat that they had offered for my guest's special birthday, but still rating 5/5 as it made for a very special afternoon :)
K R — Google review
Customer service was second to none, they were all very helpful and friendly, just like home from home. Food was of a very high standard and well presented. The initial thing that needs to be looked as is the communal areas (very dull and durgy) and the reception floor has Marine paint on it where as there is a beautiful parquet flooring underneath. There needs to be a bit more as they will be beautiful with the plans John has for them. Parking at the entrance should stop as it is detrimental to the presentation of the hotel. It was very good value for money.
Carol S — Google review
Sadly we have not stayed here yet but spent the last evening of August enjoying lovely cocktails under the vines and trailing geraniums outside overlooking the pool and beautiful gardens. It is such a wonderful establishment with quite a unique ambience, my relatives used to visit back in the 60s and 70s. We would especially like to mention Jade the mixologist who took good care of us and introduced the Wasabi amaretto sour to my husband, he had more than one! I really hope the hotel values Jade as it seems difficult to find good young staff on the island, Jade was professional, advised on the cocktail list and was happy to mix on request, really personable and she added to our evening and great memories in Ventnor.

Diners can enjoy dishes like prosciutto-wrapped monkfish tail or twelve-hour braised beef in the snug, nautical interior.
The pub is located on the waterfront. It was a grey day so we had a drink in the bar. Dogs welcome only in the bar area. Nice wine list. Guiness wasn’t great. Toilets are clean and on the ground floor. Nice toiletries. Friendly service.

Went for a meal with a friend this evening. Had two mains and a couple of glasses of wine each. Fish and chips were adequate, but fish batter over cooked. We had to find a member of staff to be seated. Although very few customers, drinks took ages to come to the table. Table was not set, was very sticky and had to get staff to stop it from wobbling. We are very local so had high hopes it had improved under new owners hence returning to try it again. Based on our experience this evening, absolutely will not be returning again. A real shame as location is lovely, but unless significant changes are made it is simply not worth the money. The member of staff who served us was lovely though, but let down by everything aforementioned.

Very disappointing. There were lots of lovely indoor plants that I wanted to purchase, but unfortunately, they were completely covered in mealy bugs. I'm just glad I noticed before I bought them. Else, they could have spread throughout my home. I was even more disappointed with the staffs response " they are getting more stock soon then they will throw the infected stock away" . Meanwhile others could be buying infected plants and also what a wasteful approach. They have the products on their shelves to treat mealy bugs so why wouldn't they use it rather than throw the stock away. Shameful

Came here for dinner and it did not disappoint. Great selection on the menu, something for everyone. Friendly staff, quick service. Perfect location for a drink and something to eat. The pub is old and quirky, with a charm all of its own. There is even a gentleman playing the piano. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Plenty of seating inside and out. Tables are cleared efficiently. There is a great selection of food and drink, whatever your taste. We had the crab sandwiches, these were truly delicious. Well presented, freshly made and definitely filled you up. Really wish The Spyglass was nearer, 5 hours each way is a little far for a sandwich! My husband also recommends the Sea Fury beer, a most enjoyable drink he says. We definitely recommend this establishment and will return on our next visit to the island.

What can be better than an apartment overlooking the sea with a fabulous pub below? We even had our own balcony. The apartment could do with an update but it was comfortable and more than adequate. It is very good here. Food is very good and prices reasonable. Just be prepared to queue a while to order food at busier times. Best is to have someone else go to the bar to get drinks in parallel (you don’t generally need to queue for drinks). As long as you know the setup in advance and don’t get caught by surprise then it’s a really good spot.

We've had breakfast, dinner and tea here so covered all bases. Highly recommend!! The view is an added bonus, beautiful location.

The pub and restaurant are very good, a frequent stop of mine. Located right on the Esplanade with sweeping views of the Shanklin beachfront. Food is always great, drinks are always cold, service is friendly and quick. And I think the prices are very fair considering the generous portions, great flavors, and awesome view.

Really nice place with a good atmosphere. The food was really good. Good portions. That's fish curry was delicious. Hunters chicken was good size. We did not stay in the hotel, we only ate here.

We were on the isle as my partner was on a business trip.. We decided to come here for food and they didnt disappoint.. The food was awesome, good portions and reasonably priced. The staff were very welcoming and dog friendly. We had a fantastic evening and would definitely go there again.

Fantastic in every way. This is one of those establishments who are located in a superb location but they don't rely upon this to make your experience memorable. The food and service is exceptional which are, imo, provided at very reasonable prices. Our meals were presented quickly by friendly attentive staff and were delicious. We'll definitely be returning to enjoy all the above whilst taking in the spectacular views.

Always look forward to a meal at the Steamer and visit every year in September. We’ve been there when it was really busy and when quiet and headed there after being told they don’t take bookings.Arrived at 5:30 to be told they were too busy for 3 of us . Sad times really as only diners seated inside and the guy said we could wait outside but no guarantee of a table…… we went next door to the Waterfront which was really nice thankfully. We wont bother with the Steamer again

Always call in for a meal when we are on IOW . Very pleasant atmosphere and a great view from the balcony. They do an excellent fish chowder which I highly recommend. All meals are good with large portions. Can be pricey but worth it .

Highly highly recommended for food here. I have been twice and each time I have had the most incredible dish. If I wasn't already full from the first plate I'd order more!

The Fisherman's Cottage is a charming pub located at the far end of Shanklin Esplanade. It has a thatched roof and is situated so close to the water that you may get your feet wet. Another eatery in Shanklin worth mentioning is The Hideaway, which offers live music from the clifftop path and has a more casual dress code of shorts and flip-flops.
Absolutely wonderful evening here this evening. My husband and I chose to come here to celebrate our anniversary. We chose this after researching restaurants on the island and it was highly recommended. It was such a cute and quaint place to enjoy an evening out. The food was delicious, I had the fish pie and it was so so SO good. Dessert - the chocolate fudge cake was heaven. The service was great, friendly and polite. 100% return and 100% recommend

Amazing food and service. You really do get what you pay for; large portions, fresh ingredients cooked to order. Staff were welcoming, friendly & helpful, with great patience. Decent toilet facilities (family & pet friendly).

Right by the beach with both indoor and outdoor seating. Super enjoyable on a sunny afternoon, and there were lots of dogs around (even better!). We had the fish and chips, scampi, and the fisherman’s pie—it’s not the usual creamy version but packed with mashed potatoes, and really delicious.

We always end up coming back to the Fisherman’s Cottage — the food is consistently great, and the location couldn’t be better. This time we had a huge portion of mussels with ciabatta, some whitebait, and a proper fisherman’s pie — all really tasty and well prepared. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area, which is ideal when the weather’s nice. Inside, it has a cosy, old-school feel that really fits the seaside setting. You’re basically eating right on the beach — can’t beat it.

Very nice food and great service. Good menu with variety. Staff very helpful. Service was quick, though this was by no means fast food. Both our fish-based dishes were expertly cooked and full of flavour. Atmosphere was a little lacking, but it was late in the season. The restaurant looked a little uninviting from the outside, but the interior was suitably quaint. We would be happy to go back there.

Came here because my late father used to always come here. He used to tell me the food was excellent and it was a great place to relax and recharge.... And he wasn't wrong! The food was superb, I recommend you check out the specials as the are positively delicious!! I had Lamb with mash and veg and it was absolutely fantastic! The staff are so so lovely! If I come back to the isle I absolutely will be coming back!! Thank you for making it so wonderful to all the people who worked when I ate here!

What an absolute gem! Great venue with lots of wooden beams and loads of space to eat / drink. The staff were very welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. The menu was filled with hearty choices but don’t miss the special board. You won’t be disappointed. Last night was a full rack of ribs and tonight was the chair style pork medallions. First class taste and good portion sizes. From order to food on table….10 mins. As this is also a hotel, it’s more than anyone could need. Totally worth the journey to the island from Hampshire.

We had a really nice stay. We arrived late afternoon Thursday, the place was pretty quiet, but within a couple of hours it was quite busy in the bar/restaurant. Plenty of seating though, the place is quite large. We had a premium room, which was spacious with a desk, a table, 2 seater sofa wardrobe and chest of drawers. King-size bed, with bedside tables both sides. The bed and sofa both faced the large window, with views of the sea and in the distance the cliffs and needles. The shower in a hotel room is often what I book them for, in this case the shower was great but not quite at the pressure is was hoping for, it was good but not amazing. The food in the bar is very good, over the four nights we've sampled quite a few items for both lunch and dinner, as well as the breakfast every morning, we've been very happy with both cost and quality. The staff have been superb, friendly but not intrusive, helpful but not hovering over us. I've had a couple of "rando requests", for example asking for a pint of milk for my protein shake, nothing has been too much, they've been great. I'd really recommend the place, we will be coming back with our dogs, the clifftop walk opposite the hotel is perfect for them.

Stopped here for lunch with our dog on our way back to Freshwater. Ordered the Ploughman's Sharer for two. Oh my! What a brilliant lunch! More than enough for two with 2 cheeses, ham, pate, pork pie plus salad and various pickles. The bread was crusty outer but soft and fluffy inside. Fantastic. Plus a large garden to enjoy. What could be better

Absolutely stunning. My mum and I decided we'd have a pop in for our dinner this afternoon, as we hadnt been for years, and it was the best decision. The scenery looking over chale was stunning, the inside of the pub felt warm and welcoming, the staff were very polite and friendly not only to us, but to our two huskeys. We both had The Winter combo, and were apparently the first to order it. I am honoured to be one of the first people to try it, and it was honestly the most amazing meal I have ever tasted. The vegetables were spot on, the pork belly melted in your mouth and has such beautiful flavour, the yorkshire pudding and beef was devine. Well worth the value of only £23 for such a massive meal. I think he was the manager called Alex, he was very humble ans polite to us both. Will 100% be going again when we come back to The Island, and will recommend to everyone. Well done staff and my highest compliments to the chef.

We did not stay here but rather had a meal. Service and food were both lovely. Reasonably priced and very good sized and tasty portions. The children's menu was brilliant, not just the usual four items consisting of nuggets, sausage, pasta and burger. Will definitely revisit the next time we are in the area.

We stayed here for a 10 night Holiday on the Isle of Wight. The location is brilliantly positioned to reach destinations on any coastline on the island within 30 mins on good traffic days. We enjoyed many sunsets sitting in the garden looking over the sea at the Needles. The staff are excellent especially Amy, Alex and Debbie, they made us fell very welcome and always had a smile on their faces even when it was really busy. Mr mouse aka Tony is a great host for the evening meals. All the food portions are generous and of a good quality particularly the specials which change every few days (unless they sell out!). Breakfast is great with cereal and pastries followed by hot food options or a Granola bowl, supplied with bottomless tea and coffee. The room we had was spacious and cleaned each day with towels provided on request. We look forward to returning when we go back to the Island. There are two electric chargers at the location but only one was working during my stay which provided AC charging at up to 22kW if your car can take it. It was convenient for a couple of top-ups while traveling round the Island making it less stressful to find a charger. Download the Monta app before travelling and it'll show up at the Inn. Thank you everyone at the Wight Mouse for making our Summer Holiday fantastic

Stopped off here as a final meal before leaving the Isle of Wight. My mother in law had been recommended this place as a great place for a meal and amazing views. Food was very good - had the southern fried chicken burger and fries which was very tasty and messy to eat! Service was very good at the restaurant with the waiter being courteous and attentive. The pub gets very busy so I would recommend booking. Also views were absolutely amazing!

Came here for a bite to eat around lunch time, wasn't busy (dog friendly). I got the fish and chips, it was good, but a bit pricey for just fish and chips. I love tartar sauce, but some of the chunks were a bit large, some were half as big as my pinky finger (pickles, I think), so it is very very chunky. Good flavor though. My partner had a fish hot dog (sea dog) which was pretty good, preferred it to the fish and chips. The views outside were wonderful and it was quite relaxing. The staff were friendly as well.

Enjoyed a Friday supper here. The really friendly women at the welcome desk said there were no available tables inside as fully booked (7.30pm) but she thought give or take 10 minutes and she’d be able to find us something - she did and we had a great table by the bar before 8pm. Marked down one star on food, as the fried fish was just a tad greasy, and hubby has had indigestion ever since his whitebait. Espresso coffee pretty good, which is hard to find in a pub!

Just a couple of Kiwis on a working holiday in the UK and we stumbled across The Lifeboat during our Isle of Wight visit. The location, the atmosphere, the staff, the food & drinks = perfection! Would 110% recommend anyone to visit!

Good selection of beer including some nice guest ales. Didn't have food but it all looked amazing as it was being served. Servers were all very attentative, constantly on the move serving food and clearing tables. Great location on the marina too. It's a Monday evening and it is very busy so must be popular with locals too.

It was very kind of the chef to cook the Moo Burger for me as it was no longer listed on the menu. I had found an older menu online and gone there looking forward to having it. I was actually very pleased with it. It far exceeded my expectations, and I am a bit of a burger connoisseur! As we live in Cambridgeshire I won’t be going back for another burger soon, but I will go back to the IoW and when I do, I will go back to the Lifeboat for another of their burgers - and try a different one. I’ll let you know how I get on when I do!

The White Horse Inn is a historic pub in England, dating back to 1454. It offers a warm and friendly atmosphere with an extensive menu and a children's playground. Visitors praise the plentiful and well-presented food, with gluten-free options available. The pub also hosts fun events and live music, making it a favorite among locals and tourists alike. The service is quick and hospitable, while the food is described as amazing with generous portion sizes.
We’ve just eaten at the White Horse and it Was an absolutely fantastic experience! The staff were friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious. My only critic is that portion sizes are on the larger size but really that isn’t a negative as the quality of the food wasn’t jeopardised at all. You could tell that the Landlady really loves her pub and it’s Easy to see why so many other people love it too. We would definitely come again next time we are on the island.

We had rented a cottage in the village and decided to try the White Horse, despite some of the reviews. The pub is situated on the main road through the village with ample parking on the car park. It also has a lawned area with seating provided. On entering the pub we were greeted by very friendly staff and shown to a table. There was a good selection of food on both the menu and specials board, to cover all tastes. The pub was busy, had a good atmosphere and there were plenty of places to sit. The decor was quirky and in keeping with the age of the pub. Our food was served by a friendly waitress. It was well presented and tasted delicious. We enjoyed our evening so much, we returned again twice that week. The final night we booked the Seafood Platter, which was exceptional and definitely could be shared by 3 or 4 people. A must if you love fish. I cannot fault this pub at all. The staff are warm and very friendly. By the end of the week you felt like a local. We will definitely return.

We visited for the Lucid gig, very enjoyable, chaotic car parking, we stayed for dinner afterwards, dinner was very nice, a bit slow but they were busy, we did reserve a table but that hadn't been done... Confusion and mix ups behind the bar with who paid for what, table numbers and food being delivered to the wrong tables.. one of those days, but need some better organisation, flustered when under pressure, and overhearing someone wanting to punch someone in the face not really appropriate in front of customers.

Lovely pub, great atmosphere and staff were courteous and attentive. The food we had came out cold and the macaroni was flavourless. It did also take over an hour for our food and some bits were missing. I do however believe this was due to two large groups that were present at the time.

Such amazing staff here, very welcoming and friendly! Food was a bit slow but the restaurant had just done a very large party so understandably the kitchen was a bit backed up. Located at the center of Tapnell Farm, The Cow is a family-friendly restaurant housed in a converted Swiss barn. It prides itself on using locally sourced ingredients and is famous for its mouthwatering burgers, which come in various options such as gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan. The restaurant offers stunning views of the Isle of Wight from its mezzanine level and terrace, making it one of the most unique dining spots on the island.
If you’re on the Isle of Wight and craving a seriously good burger, The Cow should be high on your list. As they proudly advertise, they serve one of the tastiest burgers on the island—and they certainly live up to the claim. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, the burgers here are a standout. The atmosphere is welcoming and casual, complemented by a team of friendly and attentive staff who make you feel right at home. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food, and it’s a great spot for families or groups of friends looking for a satisfying meal. The venue is clean and well-kept, with spotless toilets that reflect their attention to detail. While the food is well-priced, the cocktails are on the pricier side, which may be a small downside for those looking to pair their meal with a few drinks. Note: The Cow is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so plan your visit accordingly.

I was intrigued by the onion tower at the table next to us, so I decided to order one 🧅 Unfortunately, it was a big disappointment—the coating was far too hard (maybe too much flour in the batter?) and the texture was unpleasant. It should have been light and crispy, but instead felt heavy. The burger came with chips and the portion size was decent. I tried The Big Smoke, which was fine but not particularly memorable. What really let the dish down were the chips. They didn’t taste fresh or good quality—when you bit into them, they had hollow gaps inside instead of a fluffy, mashed potato filling. On the positive side, the service was excellent. The staff were friendly, attentive, and quick to provide tap water. The restaurant itself has a cool, unique vibe, and even though it wasn’t lunchtime, I noticed people coming in to eat—so I imagine it gets lively during dinner hours.

A very warm welcome by friendly and helpful staff. Great selection of cow based, (and non-cow based) products for all tastes and preferences. The restaurant was clean and fresh, sympathetic to the farm surroundings. Burgers were great, served quickly, very well presented with generous portions all round. First bite of the Moo Blue Burger and you can taste the stilton. The Fantastic Four is worth a look if you can't decide, and would suit a couple for a meal. Good selection of Camden ales: stouts, pale ale, lager. Well worth a visit to replenish the calorie reserves even if your haven't been on the water park.

Fabulous dining here at the cow. The service was fantastic the food was full of flavour and presented perfectly the dirty fries were awesome. The burgers were juicy and full of flavour by far the best burger I've had on the island. The whole table thoroughly enjoyed their food and deserts. Free table water aswell is a fantastic touch even the lemon and lime slices were put in the correct drinks as an ex bartender this was a very nice touch that gets forgotten far to much in my opinion. I would highly recommend a meal here for the family if your looking for a nice place to eat with some amazing deals.

The Sun Inn is a charming thatched-roof British pub offering hearty meals and scenic views of the sea from its beer garden. The owners and staff have absolutely smashed it , all our meals looked and tasted amazing. Well priced meals and very good portions. The lovely staff are super helpful & friendly . It's a gorgeous pub in a glorious location, Excellent drinks selection, and I even sampled my first pint of Hawkstone Large , thank you Jeremy Clarkson, man that was a perfect pint brewed . Good pub. Large spacious pub for both sitting indoors and outdoors. The outdoor has a nice view where you can see the lambs and mutton roaming about. There's also a children's play area convenient for the children. Our food did not take too long to arrive, I ordered the Sun Inn's Burger, which is their homemade patty or signature burger. It was alright, not the best. The chips were very good, fat and crunchy. My meal also came with salad. Others at my table ordered pasta, fish and chips. We asked for chips to be removed and salad given instead, which they honoured. They have ketchup and sauces as a sachet, but problem is when you start using a lot of them, it becomes a mess of open sachets. I am happy for the portion of the meal as it was filling and satisfactory, exactly money well spent. You can take away the left over food you cannot finish. For a pub meal, I would say this is exceptional. Drinks prices are good, I ordered pineapple juice, which came in a high ball glass, tall glass. You can also have drinks in the drinking area next to pub cashier, if you don't want to eat in family area. The only issue is the inside was hot, sitting in the inner side close to the windows was quite hot. Unfortunately the aircon did not have a longer cable to reach us. Music volume was quiet. I guess Monday was not a busy day for them. We dined here mid July 2025 Monday. Unfortunately they were not selling a lot of food on their menu because they didn't have them in stock, which was a shame. Total price of our food (excluding drinks) for 5 people came to £85. Would I recommend this place? Yes, it is a pub, and I would recommend over other restaurants in the Freshwater sea side area. Because their prices are good. Portion of food was good, taste good as well. I would have given 5 stars, but because they didn't serve some of their dishes due to stock.

Staff were friendly and helpful; food was freshly cooked but still came quickly; good range of beers on tap - one priced less than £5 a pint!! We had the lasagne, scampi and fish and chips - traditional pub food at a reasonable price - sensible sized portions. Definitely worth a visit - westerly views across the fields to the sea, are gorgeous in the sunshine.

Short version quick view over; The food was shocking. Would not recommend had been there a couple of years ago and now it is just a shell of its former self the view stunning the tables were okay a bit sticky. Don’t come! Service; The service was okay but also shocking to a point. They were polite when ordering but upon paying which is before ordering (not unheard of nowadays) they seemed to be uninterested. They brought the food over having forgotten something which was immediately brought over so that was fine. Then after being brought over no one had came to check it was okay and for an £80 bill it is just disappointing and if they had came over they would have been made aware of the issues. When searching for someone they could not be found and not wanting the food to get cold I had went to eat my terrible but warm food. Yes warm it seems to me that it’s just microwaved maybe we had been waiting to eat as we looked for someone to send it back to but even when first brought and trying it, it was still just warm. Food; The food was the worst part overall, a bit pricey for small ish portions menu did not reflect the food such as the spicy wings had not just no spice but in fact almost no flavour resembling a Tesco pre packaged wing. Blue cheese was good seemed fresh. Salad good variety bigger than the actual food which is not a good sign. Lasagne was the worst I have ever eaten it had no tomato of any kind very oily overcooked pasta and a terrible flavour like old left over a couple of nights oil which had been sat in a tub of musky socks. Would not order! The prawns were a minuscule portion good sauce okay prawns. Chicken satay had no satay were more of a frozen chicken skewer from Iceland. Wouldn’t recommend. Overall I would say maybe come here for drinks or a scoop of ice cream at most. Atmosphere; We had went on a day where there was a live band so it was loud but there was very few people so it seemed a bit much for the noise level to people ratio when ordering the waiter had to lean in a make a cone around his ear just too much I would say. Overall I would say possibly with a band free night it may be nicer as it other than that was a quiet chilled environment.

After hearing such good reviews we came for a midweek lunch and it certainly didn't disappoint!! I had pie of the day which was Turkey and Leek and I can honestly I've never had a pie with so much filling!!! It was beautiful but I was definitely defeated by it. So if you want decent home cooked food with excellent portions don't hesitate to visit 😁 Thank you very much and I look forward to coming back soon

When I made to booking I added a request for the meals to be served in lipped plates or bowls as three of the guests were blind . Thank you so much for fulfilling the request it allowed them to relax and enjoy your wonderful roast without fear of everything ending up on the table.Well done we will definitely be back. Very happy that there was room in the bar area to sit for our meal, otherwise the live singer/guitarist previously mentioned would have been too loud for conversation

🍻 Cosy Pub with Great Vibes – Perfect Rainy Day Stop! ☕️ We were visiting Isle of Wight and popped into this lovely vintage pub on a rainy day, just hoping for a hot chocolate — and ended up staying for food and fun! The interior is cosy and full of charm. We had chicken wings, chicken satay skewers, and hot chocolate — everything was delicious. We even played darts and really enjoyed the relaxed, friendly atmosphere. A great spot to unwind – highly recommended if you’re in the area!

Bluebells Café at Briddlesford farm on the Isle of Wight is a must-visit destination for its exceptional cuisine. The breakfast options are particularly outstanding, with a fresh and fantastic Full English made from locally-sourced ingredients. For those seeking an alternative, the halloumi and mushroom burger is a delightful choice.
We only stopped by for coffee & a cake ( the scone come out still warm was delicious ) but we have had previous breakfast here and it was scrummy ! Massive portions! The lady who served us was very helpful and wasn’t at all fazed about me asking for the allergen menu :) went out of her own way to make sure we was happy , while multi tasking the rest of the cafe ☕️

What a gem this place is! My partner and I both said the full English here was the best we’ve ever had and we’ve had a lot to compare it to! The staff were friendly and helpful. They gave our Son a free jar of milk from the Dairy which was such a lovely touch! He loved it! We were so impressed we went back again for Cream Tea’s which were amazing! The clotted cream was so delicious. I cannot recommend this place enough! We can see why you should book first it was extremely popular and I can see why!

Wife and daughter went to butterfly world afterwards we all wanted something to eat and drink and found this place (3 mins away)... we wasn't disappointed ! Amazing food, the crumble was massive and filled with fruit ! The drinks were good 👍 and they gave free milk to the children (it is a dairy farm). Dogs welcome. Lovely building, clean toilets, plenty of parking with a farm shop. Would definitely go back.

Got there as they opened for breakfast having left London at about 5.30am so we were definitely up for a good breakfast . Super friendly, proactive staff who were chatty and welcoming. The cafe soon filled up. Quality of produce used for their breakfast was really good, all tasted so good - I believe the sausages are their own from the butcher in the farm shop). My only comment was that the tomatoes needed a bit more cooking and the butter could have been a bit softer (so cold it was hard to butter the toast), but otherwise all delicious. Coffee deserves a mention too. We returned before we left and visited the really well stocked farm shop where we stocked up on chutney, milk, butter, bacon and Isle of Wight tomatoes. We arrived at lunchtime and the cafe was full so if you are planning lunch I would strongly recommend booking. There is ample free parking onsite.

We came across this cafe while visiting one of the animal sanctuaries on the island and it was our place to go for lunch if we were close by. The food was well presented and very tasty and our granddaughter obviously enjoyed her toasted sandwiches as she devoured them. Our grandson thought the mac and cheese was the best he had and the sausage baps were delicious. As well as visiting the cafe and farm shop our daughter and grandchildren took part in a tour of the farm on Welly Wednesday, where they were told how a working farm operates.
Valerie G — Google review
Pretty expensive, relative to the quality: sausages were too lean, making them dry. And I really struggled to digest paying more than £4 for a small bottle of mediocre orange juice. We were three people and I ended up paying £65. Place is quite nice though, and staff and service were OK.
Mark S — Google review
Wow what a Cafe. Excellent service and superb food. We purchased sausages, bacon and some of their own butter to bring home with us. If the food was available on mail order we would definitely order.

We visited twice as it was that good. 1st time full English 2nd time pancakes with bacon n maple syrup. Both were perfect. The staff are wonderful and very welcoming. When we come back to the isle of Wight we will definitely be going there again ♥️

Nestled in the picturesque Tennyson Down, Highdown Inn is a charming countryside pub and restaurant on the Isle of Wight. This dog-friendly coastal pub offers a warm welcome to all visitors, including those with four-legged companions. The menu features daily blackboard specials, with a particular emphasis on seafood and shellfish. Inside, a roaring log fire provides a cozy atmosphere while outside, a glorious garden and patio area await for soaking up the sunshine.
We found this place by pure chance having been out for a walk on the coastal path. We chose to sit on the garden as it was a glorious day. Even though a road was nervy it was very quiet and with a small pond and water feature it really added to the atmosphere. A wide section of food including local speciality of various lobster dishes. Staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Stayed here for 1 night while walking around the Isle. Had the best pint of Guinness on the island, and also a good local selection of beers available, though non alcoholic selection was a little limited. Dinner was very good and decent value, and room price was reasonable considering a decent breakfast is included. The room itself was comfortable, if a little small and dated, but no issues at all with it. Staff and customer service was to a very high standard. Plenty of seating available outside, but would recommend booking if eating inside, we were lucky to get a table. Was well located for us but beware that walking to the pub and the surrounding area will require some walking time on country roads.

I only stayed for one night but wishing I stayed for longer now! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Absolutely loved the space, the bedroom was comfortable and clean, and gave a very homey b&b feeling. I took transit and found it fairly straightforward to get to from Yarmouth. And its an easy walk to the Tennyson monument! Would definitely recommend!

Brought our friends here for a superb lunch before having a walk on Tennyson Down. Such friendly staff and all our lunches were high quality and well presented. There was enthusiastic talk of booking rooms for next summer's annual gathering too. Toilets are a little primitive but clean nevertheless.

This was my 3rd visit and it won't be my last. Outstanding location, food and service. Really friendly staff and the best fish I have ever eaten (whole Sea Bream). Lovely beer garden, good selection of beers, plenty of parking and an awesome location for exploring this neck of the island. There are other hotels with swankier rooms, more mod cons (and higher prices!), but if you want to stay somewhere with character, atmosphere and history, book a room now!
Adam D — Google review
Can't rate the hotel itself, as we are just there for lunch. But 11,50£ for that starter 'bruschetta' is a tad overpriced: Two dried slices of baguette (which they call bruschetta), 1/4 of a tomato and two small pieces of mozzarella. This pricing should be revised, in our opinion. We also had a main, which was priced okay, I guess. The patio is very comfortable!

The Anchor Inn is a charming 18th-century establishment that offers affordable en suite rooms and features a lively atmosphere with live music and bar meals. Situated in the heart of town, it provides a warm and friendly environment for guests to unwind. The inn serves a variety of delectable home-cooked dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, including popular options like Sunday roasts, gourmet burgers, and fish and chips.
Popped into this lovely little pub in Cowes and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, just what you want from a proper pub. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive – nothing was too much trouble. The manager (I believe his name was Mark) was especially great – really approachable, down to earth, and clearly cares about making everyone feel at home. The food was exactly what you’d hope for – good, hearty pub grub done well. Generous portions, served hot, and very tasty. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel relaxed and looked after. Highly recommend if you’re in Cowes and after a proper pub with great people and good food. Will definitely be back!

I love the anchor! Had a fantastic evening on Saturday Great atmosphere, great DJ 😎 Proces for drinks are good too Very busy. Need to queue for a round for 10 mins sometimes, but that is the proce of success! Maybe one more behind the jump at these busy times , or a second bar?

Perfect location for a two night stay. Super clean rooms and good value. Free parking on nearby streets outside the controlled zone. Some noise from deliveries as you're right on the high street but that's to be expected and didn't bother me

Charged £1 for each plastic ‘glass’, even though I made it clear that we were not going outside. Asked for a receipt, but no ink down the right hand side, meaning I couldn’t read the prices. Left after 1 drink. Bar tender less than helpful.

Quite overpriced (around the £10+ mark for a vodka coke) but it is a lovely atmosphere with some great live bands and music playing most weekends. It is often cramped in here due to how busy it gets.

Definitely worth swinging by. Lovely menu with a handful of options. Fast efficient service, slightly complicated dishes that are of good size and value. I always come by when I'm due a treat in Cowes. I did demolish the salad before I took a photo of the starter 😂 7.9/10 - Will be back

Sadly this place did not live up to its expectations. nice little venue which felt cosy when we walked in. Unfortunately the food in here definitely didn't hit the Mark compared to the price. The ribeye steak was ordered by three of our party. 2 medium well done and one was ordered rare They all came out medium to well done. Whoever was cooking this steak is not really a steak chef. There was little to no caramelisation to the surface of the meat. It was clearly cooked too slow. The meat had not been seasoned at all, so all in all there was very little flavour from one of the most flavoursome pieces of beef. It was served with some average french fries and a handful of salad. The salad tasted like it had the same dressing as the starter salad which I had which was very nice. Overall poorly cuts poor quality food and overpriced.

Restaurant
Tansy's Pantry is a popular vegan restaurant located in the charming village of Godshill. What started as a vegetarian food truck has now become a thriving eatery, offering 100% plant-based dishes. The menu features freshly prepared delights such as Vish & Chips, Soul Bowls, and Mac and Cheeze, along with a hearty pulled-jackfruit roast on Sundays. The cafe also offers an extensive selection of vegan-friendly drinks, including coffee made with locally roasted beans.
Neither my partner nor I are vegans but we were excited to try Tansy's Pantry as it had good reviews and we're always up for something a bit different and were feeling uninspired by the selection of ubiquitous tea houses and gastropubs we'd seen. We ordered the wings and vish & chips and it was incredible. You'd never know there wasn't parmesan cheese on the "wings" (and without trying to simulate chicken, their seitan was excellent on its own merit - moist, tender and flavourful!). The vish & chips was 10000x better than most actual fish & chips we've had - the batter was spot on, so light and crispy with a subtle flavour of the sea! If you're reading this, you should probably order it just so you can tell your friends you ate battered squash blossom on the IOW that tasted better than "the real thing" - even the crispy little pistils of the blossom that were sticking out looked a bit like fish bones! We had the BPJ brownie and cheezecake for dessert but were too distracted with the deliciousness of it all to remember to photograph it, which is probably a good sign! Had never heard of Fungtn (alcohol free) beer, but gave it a go because we love anything containing citra hops and this was a winner. Lovely simple decor, excellent hygiene and friendly staff too. Also five stars specifically goes to whoever chooses the music - while waiting for our meal, there were some quality tunes on rotation!!!

Lovely small restaurant. Loved the food and dessert. We ordered the Korean 'wings' (seitan ones) and the Thai tofu curry. The wings were excellent and the tofu curry was good. A berry oat crumble and PB&J brownie to finish off, both of which didn't last for long! Would definitely go here again if I'm on the island.
Manish J — Google review
Superb vegan food in a lovely place! We had the Thai Green Curry wings, Szechuan cauliflower and Mac n cheese! We also got some cakes to take home! Very sad to know this place is closing in September! Best of luck with whatever is next.
Vicki H — Google review
AMAZING! Any non-believers need to be taken here to show what vegan food is really like! The wings were something else, so good I asked for the recipe to the sauce! Mac’n’cheeze side was superb. The tofu “fish” bap was also brill, crispiest batter ever. So full, we had to take desert home for later. Take out beer for the walk back, too. Win win win! Vegan or not this is just great food all round, in a lovely cosy setting with fab service. We will be coming back!

One of the best places I’ve eaten at on the Isle of Wight! It was a street food night, we could choose 1 large plate, 1 small plate and a dessert for £25. The menu was diverse and a good representation of streetfood from around the world and it was ALL BRILLIANT!!! Flavour wise the Vada Pav, Shiitake Ramen and Basa Tacos were the best, but everything was tasty and fresh. It was sooo refreshing to have so many yummy and eclectic things to choose from as a vegetarian, as eating out can be somewhat restrictive. The fact it is all vegan too is a huge bonus and shows what amazing things you can do without meat or dairy! Top class TP and I can’t wait to revisit! The roasts look amazing!!!

Delicious vegan meals and coffee in a tucked away secluded courtyard. Staff very friendly and although the wait was fairly long it was worth it for the amazing food. I had also had a doorstep delivery before Covid restrictions allowed eating outside and it was scrumptious 😋

We went for Sunday lunch Table booked for 13.45 pm in the bar. The barmaid was great, very professional. The starters were delicious. Long wait for the main course and they forgot our vegetables which we had to chase up. By the time they arrived the veg and the meal was cold. Long wait for dessert which we had to chase up. The dessert was very nice albeit a small portion. A 10% service charge was added to our bill. This was allegiance voluntary but was already on the bill and we felt pressurised to pay it. We are local but will not be going back.

Absolutely stunning venue in Ventnor. Good drinks with incredible food. We had the omakaze and that was an awesome choice. The food kept on coming and it was all delicious. The team was great too - I wasn't drinking but they happily made me a couple of non alcoholic cocktails. Also, we don't eat spicy food and they made sure all dishes were mild and didn't have anything we disliked on. Will definitely return. Thanks Drunken Lobster 🦞❤️🍹

Having just eaten at the Smoking Lobster, we wanted to try its sister restaurant. We were not disappointed. The two restaurants serve a similar style cuisine, but the dishes are unique to each restaurant. The Drunken Lobster is a bijou little place, but really well laid out. We started with a raspberry chili margarita and black cherry charcoal sour. - both excellent, complex and not too sweet. Our bartender/server Chloe was friendly and offered great recommendations. For lunch we chose Szechuan king prawn & pineapple katsu maki. I'm always a bit apprehensive about pineapple in a dish as it can be overwhelming, but this dish featured tiny pieces of pickled pineapple which accented the flavor of the dish beautifully. Next came Lo Bak Go, a bit like a hash brown cake, but made with daikon and topped with bonito flakes. It was crispy and yummy. The next dish to arrive was the tempura soft shell crab with chili yuzu slaw on a gorgeous black bao. The bao was soft and light as a feather and made a lovely pillow for the delicate crab. Our last dish was a Korean style barbecue lamb served on lettuce cups. Its rich and intense flavor really packed a punch. I often find that lamb can be so delicately flavored as to be almost indistinguishable from beef, but this was not the case here. It seemed almost like hogget, it was so flavorful. We had a side dish of seaweed salad, which served as a light refreshing bite between the various dishes. From start to finish, it was an amazing meal, and the prices were very reasonable. Do book in advance as its a small place and they do fill up.

Early Friday evening visit. Had booked as very busy. We had a selection of wonderful small plates, served by charming and attentive ladies. Several delicious cocktails were had too. Will definitely return.
Mark J — Google review
This is a great little cocktail bar and kitchen. Our host Ruby was amazing and truly made our visit an exceptional experience deserving five stars. On the food side we took: Pineapple Szechuan king prawn Uramaki - nice mix of flavors, my second favorite Charsiu monkfish tail, tempura broccoli - the absolute winner as the best dish Ponzu beef shin bon bons - pulled beef made into deep-fried balls, was my partner's second favorite Furikake fries - a nice side, though technically just fries. We took it with Wasabi mayo which was special - it managed to have the Wasabi taste without a lot of the horseradish heat - a great balance On the cocktail side we took: Lychee Cucumber Martini - good bland of tastes, very fresh, easy to drink and overall innovative and different from other cocktails Raspberry Chilli Margarita - another top cocktail, having a spicy punch while staying so tasty you can't stop sipping it Thai Lemondae - the coriander taste in the drink was a good surprise, the subtle almond taste was also great Cherry Blossom Manhattan - was the least special in taste. Maybe because it didn't have much of a cherry blossom taste and look to it. Nevertheless, it is the go to cocktail for a strong alcohol dose, so it has its use (and the alcohol soaked cherries are great) Japanese Coffee, Hibiki Whisky, Demerara, Coffee, Cream - great drink, served hot but in drinking temperature, all the tastes balance wonderfully to create an alcoholic coffee that was great as a finishing note for our excellent night at the Drunken Lobster. Highly recommended place, we did a walk-in but we were lucky to have a sit, reservations are the way to go

Briddlesford Lodge Farm dairy, shop and cafe offers simple and bright rooms with locally sourced breakfast on a working family farm. The former milking parlour now houses a farm shop filled with local fruit, vegetables, preserves, chutneys, cheeses, butter and milk straight from the owners' Guernsey herd. The shop also offers beef from nearby farms and ethically produced veal. Bluebells Cafe serves food made with produce from the shop.

Never in my decades of life on God's beautiful earth did think I'd be on the brink of tears because of service in a restaurant but boy did I learn a lesson today. We got there, went to the shop and grabbed a few bits. Due to the amazing reviews decided to try the restaurant as well. There was a queue and we got told we could only be seated outside. Not ideal, given that we were with our baby and it was cold and windy but we said ok. We ordered the food then waited for one hour for it to arrive. In this time people came, sat inside, had their food and left. We were still waiting. My little one was absolutely hysterical because she was hungry and needed to nap. Tried to give her some fruit we got from the farm shop but it's not like a filling meal, she couldn't be settled. Many of the people who came after us said they had no reservations but were seated inside regardless. I don't know how we were left waiting that long and outside on the cold. The food was alright, hence the 2 stars but they were missing the mac and cheese we wanted to try. To be fair, if the food was served to me in London I'd be impressed but on the island there are so many wonderful places that use local fresh produce that this is just completely not worth the hassle. Came here while out on a drive with my fiancée and it was a lovely gem of a find. The farm shop had a good variety of items and produce and had lovely staff. The cafe looked lovely however we didn't go in, seeing as we had just eaten. It also had an area to pet baby calfs and go on farm tours. I'd very much recommend taking a little trip to this gem of a place.

Lovely farm shop. Plenty of parking. Full of local produce including their own milk and cheese, IOW tomatoes, beer, Adgestone vineyard wines, bread, butchery and greetings cards with their own dairy cows on. Lovely friendly staff who are happy to chat. Outdoor seating and a coffee shop complete this lovely place.

Visited for the first time today after coming across Briddlesford on Google. Decided to pop into the cafe and we ended up having cooked breakfasts. What can I say, one of the very best breakfasts we've had! Food was such good quality, perfectly cooked and piping hot. Staff where friendly in the cafe and farm shop. Will most definitely be visiting again when over on the island again.

Lovely dairy farm with amazing milk, cheese, and meats, plus local fruit and veg. My son loved to watch the cows get milked (3:30pm to 5pm) and to see some baby cows up close near the cafe. Highly recommend a visit!

Free entrance and free car park inside The animals look happy and well treated, very friendly and lovely There is a museum inside which shows antique farm pieces/tools, equipment, photos and information about the past The shop has loads of variety (vegetables, fruits, meat, cookies, cheese, etc) and the prices are fair, the staff was very welcoming. The restaurant / coffee shop serves delicious food and drinks! Thank you everyone 😋

RT Café Grill, located in Royal Maritime House in Ryde, offers a relaxed setting with stunning 180-degree views of the Solent. Renowned chef Robert Thompson's classic British cooking shines through the simple yet excellent menu. The elegant and understated decor creates an incredibly stylish atmosphere where meticulously chosen ingredients are transformed into memorable dishes. Guests are beautifully looked after by delightful staff, making it a must-visit venue in Ryde.
Lovely restaurant in a standalone historical building next to the sea. The back garden has plenty of seatings which makes the outdoor dining in nice weather especially appealing. We sat outdoor and you can see the waves sometimes.

First time here, although know Robert from Thompson’s when in Newport. Great surroundings, the building is a wonderful venue for great food, drink and hospitality! Greated at the door by Robert, who took our coats, then shown to a wonderful table to gaze at the sea, whilst in the warmth. The restaurant is bathed in delicate colours, peacocks navy blues and amazing art, with a subtle art deco theme (my wife may disagree with me!). We opted to go for mains, my wife had a delicate fish pie, oozing flavour yet so light but filling, I had the roast pork. A really meaty couple of cuts with the biggest Yorkshire pudding I’ve ever seen. Square roast potatoes with a hint of celeriac puree. Really stuffing, fresh vegetables on the side and a bucket of pork gravy that oozed onto the plate!! Dessert was obviously treacle tart plus a surprise of an anniversary plate for our wedding anniversary! Thank you!! Robert has bought along his head chef from Thompsons who does an impressive job driving a first class kitchen! Great work! Looking forward to seeing how the renovations are coming along downstairs next time we visit! Promise not to leave so long next time! Kathryn and Simon.

This place is really quite special. We popped in for coffee, had breakfast and then ended up having a tour of the wine cellar and private dining areas. Really happy staff makes a really happy environment for us to enjoy. Robert Thompson should be really proud of what he has created. We will definitely be back with friends for lunch or dinner.

In addition to its mouthwatering pizzas, Salty's also serves as a lively ground-floor bar where guests can enjoy a relaxed ambiance. The attentive and friendly staff provide excellent service, making visitors feel welcome and well taken care of.
We dined at ‘Saltys’ just before boarding the ferry today & had the best pizza I think I’ve ever eaten. A great welcome from the guy behind the bar, got us seated, gave us water & the food was quick to come out. Very attentive & friendly staff. The atmosphere was great & the kids loved it. Perfect spot for a bite before heading home. Couldn’t ask for more from a restaurant. We will definitely be returning!

Got chips with so much salt on it that we couldn’t eat more than one bite each . The name of the takeaway is salty’s but that doesn’t mean you put tons of salt on food and make it inedible!

One of the best pizza’s on the island! Lovely and fresh and fantastic dough! We collected for take away. We did have to wait a while as they were busy with a function but it was worth it! Unfortunately they didn’t have any cans of drink that we ordered so we had to have open cups, which wasn’t up to date with the website but we would highly recommend for meat or vegan food as well!

We spent the evening here on Saturday 22/7/23 whilst on our honeymoon 💕. Amazing seafood restaurant the ambience in the restaurant is lovely. The food was outstanding and service was very friendly, we then went down and burnt off our meal singing and dancing to the live music in the bar, amazing atmosphere! The taxi service is absolutely fantastic! If you book a table for food Brad will collect you and drop you back afterwards! Overall outstanding and we will definitely be back when we are next over. Thank you all for making our evening exceptional xx

We visited for a lunch in the beautiful upstairs dining room. The staff were very friendly and polite and their attention to detail was fantastic. We had the fish of the day which was monkfish, a very generous portion cooked on the bone. It was a beautiful piece of fish cooked to perfection and served with broccoli and buttered potatoes. Our starters were superb and the whitebait was crispy and delicious as was a beautifully crafted crab salad with charred grapefruit. The crowning glory was the dessert of jelly with cucumber sorbet, just the most perfect dessert which felt like eating a Pimms. One of the cleverest desserts I’ve seen in a long time. My dessert was the chocolate and banana dessert, it was rich and indulgent and sates that sweet hit at the end of a meal. If visiting Yarmouth do not pass up a chance to eat here. Incredible food and amazing hospitality from the staff!

Salty's is an absolute gem of a seafood focussed restaurant. Both the exterior and interior were high end, with an excellent menu and wine options. The food was extremely well cooked and presented, and tasted so fresh it could have jumped straight out of the nearby Solent onto the plate. So why not a full 5 stars....the only alcohol free beer option was San Miguel, now for those who've tried it I know you won't be drinking it again! The bread sharing starter oddly, didn't turn up with any side plates and really needed oil and balsamic to dip into, especially if focaccia is in the mix! Would I visit again, absolutely! Would like to see a few more options on the alcohol free side and maybe some more chilled music as it was erm rather eclectic given the quality of the food on the plate. Great job guys, can't wait to return!

We popped in to Saltys for an early dinner with our daughter last night. Honestly the best pizza we’ve ever had! The team are so friendly and welcoming. Great atmosphere and decor. Absolutely a 5 star review. The only thing that could improve it would be if they had beer on tap. Thank you for a lovely experience.

New Inn is an 18th-century pub known for its charming atmosphere with ceiling beams and an inglenook fireplace. The pub offers a menu of British dishes and fish specials, catering to the traditional meal times that are essential in British culture. Visitors can enjoy fresh fish, crab, and lobster at this award-winning establishment in Shalfleet. The friendly staff and high-quality food make it a popular choice for both locals and visitors alike.
Have been hearing good things lately about the New Inn and wow 🤩 not disappointed at all. Popped in for lunch and the welcome was amazing. The owners and staff were extremely friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel so welcome. The food was incredible. This is obviously a chef that knows their stuff. Everything is cooked fresh to order and that’s apparent by how the food is presented and how it tastes. If you are in the area ( in fact, I’d make a point of travelling for a meal ) you will not be disappointed. Possibly the best meal I’ve had in the island. And just to point out, they are extremely dog friendly. We will definitely be back sooner rather than later.

We recently spent an amazing night at The New Inn for the grand opening of the Wight Whisky Terrace, complete with brilliant tunes from "Our Girl G". It was such a classy event from start to finish. First off, the pub itself is just superb – a real island gem. They serve up some seriously high-quality gastro pub food. The menu is really extensive, catering for everyone including the kids, with all the classics done brilliantly, plus some fantastic additions like their crab and haddock risotto. And the Wight Whisky? It's the perfect addition to the island's already flourishing food and drinks scene. Their whisky cocktails were incredibly refreshing. We've actually been enjoying Wight Whisky for a while now; it's a wonderfully light whisky that's just spot on served over ice at the end of a busy week. Whether you're just passing through or looking for a destination, I can't recommend The New Inn enough for fantastic food or just a relaxing drink. You won't be disappointed!

Our whole experience was lovely. Came by boat into Newtown and after a short walk, had a brief drink by the fire before a fantasic sunday roast. Beautifully cooked beef (perfectly pink!), generous sides and extra gravy. Followed by an amazing chocolate mousse. Service was attentive and lovely atmosphere (dog friendly too!). Strongly recommend but make sure you book to avoid disappointment!!

I visited The New Inn for lunch today with friends. While they were satisfied with their simple meals, my experience was unfortunately quite different. I ordered a small portion of risotto, which arrived heavily dressed in oil—so much so that I had to push the risotto to one side of the plate in an attempt to drain it. The dish was unpalatable, and I couldn’t eat it. I mentioned this to the waitress, who was very polite and responded with a brief apology before clearing the table and bringing the bill. Shortly after, the owner appeared and offered a small bag of fudge as compensation. While the gesture was appreciated, it felt mismatched—I had come for lunch, not confectionery. The owner explained that olive oil is part of their risotto preparation. While it’s true that olive oil is used to sauté and toast the rice, it’s not used in large quantities to dress the finished dish. A well-made risotto achieves its creamy texture through the gradual release of starch during cooking, finished with butter and Parmesan—not by adding excessive oil. Overall, I left disappointed. I hope the kitchen reconsiders its approach to risotto, as the rest of the experience—from the service to the ambiance—was otherwise pleasant. One star for the waitress.

After a minor horse riding tumble, regarding our Daughter (9yrs old) we found the New Inn "by accident" when having to stop on the way back to our campsite, because her back was hurting 😢 the staff were amazing and brought out some ice in a towel to help ease the pain for our Daughter. We decided to go in and have a meal and a drink. The food was fantastic & was served quickly after placing orders. A very nice cozy pub/restaurant to enjoy some good food! Thank you so much to the staff for making our daughter comfy during our visit 😀

Great little pub I’ve been going to for 50 years. The bar still feels the same. The restaurant area is clean and cozy. The food was really good, and a reasonable price. The staff were friendly and helpful. Easy parking to the rear of the pub. Cross the road and have a look at the church if you have time.

Had an excellent family meal. The staff were all lovely especially the charming young waitresses. Between us we had roasted gurnard, open fish pie and a vegetarian pie, all cooked to perfection with some very nice desserts and the best cheese & biscuits I’ve ever tasted. The New Inn is now our go-to for every occasion especially as our former favourite in Freshwater seems to have gone downhill somewhat service-wise. Just two observations (not criticisms) we found the background music rather annoying and totally unnecessary and I like to see a corked wine bottle, opened by the waiter and not a screw capped one.

I wanted to like this pub so much, it's in a beautiful location, and in a lovely old building. The cost of the food is amazingly reasonable, but sadly we were let down by the quality of the meals. The chicken was dry, the vegetables both sparce and un edible. The carrots hard under cooked and the peas, they were rock hard. The lasagne was over cooked. On a plus side, the service was good, as was the staff. Such a pity. Maybe we caught the kitchen on a bad day?

When the weather starts getting chilly and the rain is pouring, there’s nothing quite like finding a cozy pub to escape to, and this place did not disappoint. I stopped in looking for some comfort food, and the menu here is pretty solid for a Green King pub. Everything I tried was delicious and hit the spot just right. But what really made my visit memorable was the staff. They were fantastic! One of them even went out of their way to make a long straw just to see if I could drink tartar sauce through it, all because I joked about stealing my girlfriend's sauce! That playful attitude really brightened my day. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to the Isle of Wight, and I’ll definitely be stopping by this pub again. It’s a perfect spot to warm up and enjoy some good food with even better service. Highly recommend it!

Excellent value, nicely cooked meals. Very friendly, helpful & good humoured staff. Meals were served hot and in good time… generous portions at good prices. Daily menus and specials sounded appetising. Tables, menus & cutlery all clean too. We will definitely return! Can’t really comment on the atmosphere as the pub was fairly empty on the Sunday evening when we visited. 😎👍
Andy B — Google review
This has always been a favourite place of ours to eat Sunday lunch. We come 4/5 times a year. The staff are lovely, the place itself is clean and accessible. BUT the food has gone down in quality over the last year. We had a meal that wasn't great last year and just put it down to bad luck. Unfortunately it has gotten worse not better. We booked an earlier slot this time in the hope the food would be better as in theory it would be freshly cooked and not reheated or sitting on a hot plate. Sunday dinner should be served piping hot. It was lukewarm. Some bits such as veg were barley that. The gravy was the hottest part. The veg were not great. The carrots were cold and hadn't been peeled. The peas were poor quality and overcooked. The broccoli was raw. I know many people like it al dente, but this was hard to cut with the cutlery. The cauliflower cheese used to be delicious, served in the little pans and with a crispy cheese top now its bland. Its unheard of in my household for EVERYONE to leave the roast potatoes. They were anemic, dry and rock solid. The meat (beef and turkey) was very dry and just not great quality. Even the amazing Yorkshire puddings were chewy and had been reheated. What has gone wrong? Its such a shame as I would previously have recommended this place to everyone when asked where to go for a great Sunday dinner. I hate posting bad reviews especially for places ive loved. I even double checked by going again but had the same experience and asked others on groups that recommended food for island visitors. I really hope that the food goes back to its previous excellent quality. And that I can change my review. But right now when people cannot afford to waste money on a bad meal an honest review is vital. And before anyone jumps on asking if I told the establishment, yes I did. The staff member simply said "oh thats a shame" when I showed her it was impossible to cut the pie. The photos I've included are from May and July this year. The 2 visits where we gave it another go just in case the first meal was simply a fluke.

Came for a meal and drinks and had a fantastic time. Food from both the main menu and the specials list were perfect. The Folly Inn, located on the picturesque River Medina, is a charming pub that offers classic dishes in a casual setting. We were made to feel incredibly welcome at The Folly Inn during our recent visit. The staff are truly amazing - attentive and friendly throughout our meal. The restaurant boasts beautiful views which make dining here a special experience, particularly while we're on holiday. The quality of the food is excellent, with dishes that are both delicious and well-presented. A lovely run up the Medina river passing the chaos at Cowes Yacht Haven and Shepard’s Marina. I believe it is currently Cowes Classic Week and with all the hired crew hanging on it’s clear that maybe the skipper and the mate are the only ones that have any idea of what they are doing… But let’s get past that and down to The Folly Inn. Good value for a short stay with quite possibly the worlds most expensive (by distance, in our case about 10 metres) water taxi. Such is life and if you want to arrive by boat, undoubtedly the best way, then you have to pay the piper. The food and the service in the pub was outstanding. It’s worth the trip and the berthing fees for that alone. I chose the simple fish and chips and the meal was lovely. No great wait for the food and the server was quite possible the most polite and attentive gentlemen I’ve had looking after me whilst dining. We sat there for an hour or so eating and enjoying a drink from the well stocked bar. Just watching the world go by. I realise a warm Wednesday afternoon may be different to a manic Saturday or Sunday, but I can heartily recommend this place if you are looking for somewhere different in the area that isn’t Cowes and the amusement that is berthing on the western side of the harbour…

I have to say this place really nails it. Four of us visited from the mainland and not having booked wandered around checking the menus to see what took our fancy. The choices were the main decision maker for us on this place as the choices were interesting and varied and caters for a wide audience, from high end fish dishes to wood fired pizza options and roasts on a Sunday. When near the sea it seems sacrilege not to fish it up and choices were not lacking. Scallops for starters and whole sea bass with rosemary roasted potatoes for mains for me and I couldn’t resist a nibbler of boquerones (my favourite way to eat anchovies). Others had Brie as a starter and roast beef and chicken supreme as well as another sea bass fillet with a chorizo and tomato risotto. All of these dishes came out in good time without feeling rushed and without fault everyone thought their food was stunning. Flavours, freshness, portion size all spot on. Couple with that some lovely cocktails and some tremendously good looking (and smelling) pizzas passing out table and yes this place is definitely a place to go. Price for 4 with several drinks and some 3 courses was £200 which I think is perfectly reasonable for the quality and environment. Top drawer, we will return!!

An iconic place in Cowes that serves up a wide selection of dishes that cater for all dietary needs. The accompanying cocktails and wines are superb and the service is attentive and courteous. A definite gem on the Isle of Wight and bookings are essential at the usual peak times as place is popular with both locals and tourists alike. I would definitely return. Management deserves praise for providing such an outstanding eatery and it would be great if one of their marketing team engaged more with the Google reviewers to further boost their ratings and awards.

So I came here with my parents and fiancé on a recommendation from a friend, oh it didn't disappoint. Our server was a friendly and welcoming man (i forget his name, but he had a man's mustache). Our orders were taken promptly and came out at a good speed. The food itself was one to be remembered, 3 out of the 4 of us had food from the specials menu as we found the seafood options better on that menu. The dressed crab was light and full of flavour, the whole seabass was wonderfully cooked and flavoursome (however the presentation of the lovely dish could be changed a little, such as putting it on a wooden serving board would work better in my own personal opinion). The lobster and crab ravioli is definitely one to be had too, especially the sauce it was served in, truly delicious. The burger looked and tasted like an absolute staple from this place too, the burger itself was served pink and was full of flavour. Couldn't fault anything when it came to the taste of the food or the service, would very highly recommend for a night out. My only criticism about this place would be that it isn't very accessible for the people who have mobility issues, being as there is no downstairs toilet, however this cannot be helped by any of the amazing staff members here. 10/10 for food and dining experience though, I'd definitely return and recommend coming here.

Nice ambience and well decorated. Happy with service even though the restaurant was full. Ate the seafood risotto and chicken supreme. Risotto was almost perfect, with generous portions of the seafood. Would have just added some vegetables or salad to make it a more complete dish. The chicken supreme was dry, so needed more sauce for balance. However, the sauce was too salty. Would have liked a larger serving of potatoes and mushrooms, as we were left a bit hungry. Positives: the chicken skin was crispy, the potato gratin was successful and liked the watercress they added.

The draft drinks seemed to all be flat so maybe a problem with their lines and I was served a warm glass of white wine. However, I was very impressed with the service here. Just one girl behind the bar, running all the drinks and most of the food, before another lady started to help our running the food. Despite how busy they were, they didn’t falter in their efforts and were really kind and good spirited. I was also very pleasantly surprised by how great their cocktails where!! Overall I would visit again, but maybe skip the food and just enjoy a nice cocktail in a welcoming bar.

There was a problem with the kitchen but we were only told about this after we had ordered and paid for our food, ended up waiting 1hr. When it did arrive , the macaroni cheese was really bland and the seafood carbonara was just odd. Sea bass was ok, sweet chilli sauce made it! Maybe on a different night it would have been better but I won’t be back. The staff were nice and apologetic about the delay.
Suzy A — Google review
We ate here three days in a row while on holiday and I can't recommend them enough. Great menu for both kids and adults (the kids menu was especially impressive as it had more options than most places). The food was tasty, a good price and the service was friendly. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Sandown.
Heather B — Google review
We had 4 beautiful roasts yesterday. The food was really tasty and plenty of it. The prices were good and the service was lovely. We will definitely be visiting again before we leave IOW
Barry C — Google review
Average food, very over-priced. £20+ for pub grub classics like pie, or fish and chips is mad. Definitely pricing out the local custom. The meals that were ordered didn’t come out together either which was annoying. Staff are a lovely bunch, but would completely avoid returning for the food.
Stewie P — Google review
Food was very nice - cod was very good and so was the beef burger. However, very long wait for the food which we were not warned about ended up waiting an hour. Waitress was very friendly and apologetic but completely over run - including taking ages to get the bill at the end. Cocktails were good,

The location is fantastic to enjoy the sea view and have a pint or some food. They have a lovely outside sitting space and inside as well. The staff are friendly. We ordered battered fish and chips and one wide a side of salad instead of chips. Lovely fresh food.

The Isle of Wight Pearl is a tourist attraction on the Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England. It is home to the largest and most valuable collection of pearls in the world. The museum explains the history and culture of pearling, and features exhibits on every stage of pearl production from shells to jewellery. There is also a chocolate shop and cafe on site.
A lovely cafe. Amazing carrot cake! The views are spectacular even on a dull day. It's such a shame the cliff is eroding at the rate it is, as the building is not as far away from the edge as it used to be. The pearl jewellery is beautiful. Some lovely gifts to be discovered.
Tracy G — Google review
Isle of Wight Pearl is interesting to visit, especially to see the history and learn more about how pearls are cultivated – that part is really nice and worth a look. The displays are well presented and it’s a unique experience. However, the atmosphere did feel a bit cold when we visited. Some of the staff came across as abrupt and a little stuck up, and it took quite a while to get help or be served, which did let the experience down. Overall, it’s worth a visit if you’re interested in pearls and their history, but the customer service could definitely be warmer and more welcoming.
SPARKELS7797 — Google review
Lovely location lovely view lots staff lovely coffee shop BUT the maturing the jewellery when asked a question was rude saying she was concentrating and made no effort to talk to us. So she made a bad example in all the staff. We walked out

Having visited this place on many occasions, I decided to take my eldest daughter there. She really enjoyed it and it is a great experience to see all the various pearls and jewellery. Along with the history behind the Pearl's. They is also a great views along with a lovely cafe area. Selling fresh sandwiches, hot food, great selection of fresh cakes, cream teas etc. A great enjoyable experience.
Bernard K — Google review
Looks nice on the outside but inside is looking a bit dated. Could do with a repaint and tidy up in areas. Staff were attentive and pleasant though and chips from the café were chunky and tasty
James M — Google review
Visited here on more than one occasion, the shop is great for a browse, if your looking for a different type of gift, all price ranges. The cafe has great food and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Definitely worth a visit.
Paul M — Google review
Staff are very experienced and knowledgeable the venue is perfectly placed on a cliff top for a pot of tea or latte with the sea breeze blowing gently on the green. Clean and tidy venue :)

My husband & I visited celebrating our Pearl Wedding Anniversary...30 years. We took a selfie in the entrance by the enormous clam and huge Pearl. The cafe was a total hit...views stunning. Good selection of food The cream tea was delicious. Sharon in the cafe gave above and beyond .A really lovely experience.

Restaurant
The White Lion is a charming village pub that warmly welcomes hikers and their furry companions. The establishment offers an extensive menu, including delectable specials, a variety of ales on tap, and an array of tempting desserts. Visitors praise the tasteful decor and commend the friendly and accommodating staff. Guests particularly enjoy the 'curry night' with its generous servings of three different curries and rice for a set price.
My husband and I eat here every Sunday. The White Lion is the best of the best. We had Christmas and Boxing day in their excellent company. We felt we were a part of an extended family. Beautiful home cooked food. We cannot fault this family run business. They have had lower class clientele that were abusive. But rubbish always comes to the top of the pond. So ignore negative comments, if they want fast food then they can go elsewhere. This is quality food not junk food. FEB14 VALENTINES DAY 2025. WOW!!! Beautiful food and lovely touches with real red roses and heart shaped candles. I just have to show you my pudding. Lovely homemade meringue with that gorgeous chewy bit. Cream islands under all the meringues and huge strawberries. Three flavour meringues, plain, pistachio and raspberry. This was SOOOO good.
Mary C — Google review
Although our experience did not start off well, we would definitely return again. Our reservation was for 11 people and a dog. We were promptly seated in the back room and were ready to order. After a long time, a lady came to inform us, that we can not sit there with our dog, that dogs are welcomed only in the front room. More waiting. After at least half hour, we were seated around several tables in the appropriate room, and being from the US, we waited for someone to take our drink order, by now the kids (5) were restless. No one came to explain the order and pay system, we finally saw a sign at the bar. More waiting followed, we had to choose food and pay for it at the bar as well. All this confusion made us regret coming here, however after having a drink and seeing the carvery and veg choices, we relaxed and were able to enjoy an absolutely delicious Sunday roast. Portions served were plentiful, the meat tender and juicy, the nut roast was liked by our vegetarians. We had also enjoyed the live entertainment, a lovely lady with a very beautiful voice and we stayed around for additional half hour listening to her. The pub is in a convenient location with plenty of parking, and a quaint old church nearby if you fancy a short postprandial walk.

Absolutely fantastic. First time visiting with family, welcoming atmosphere, very quiet for the time we were in. Food amazing.. we had the pie and because there wasn’t enough chips ready for the portion on the plate the chef sent out the pie so that it didn’t go cold and quickly followed by another serving of chips.
Claire L — Google review
What a lovely family, island pub. Great atmosphere. Lovely friendly staff. Lovely food at a very reasonable price. Definitely will be coming back again. Julie, Ian and the team did a great job today hosting a free buffet for England v Spain Ladies football. Really nice traditional island pub run and managed the island way: making you feel really welcome and doing the best for you. Thank you very much and see you soon.
Paul T — Google review
While the food was acceptable, the overall dining experience was disappointing due to the behavior of other diners. Several guests were extremely loud, showed no table etiquette, and created an uncomfortable atmosphere. The locals on the island don’t like “holiday makers” yet it’s the source of income which keeps the island going. After visiting the island for 20 years I’ve never been in a restaurant where I felt so unwelcome. It was difficult to enjoy the meal in such an environment. Staff did not seem to intervene or manage the situation, which further impacted the experience. Staff then laughing with the diners after moving tables. Unfortunately, I would not return, as a restaurant should offer not only decent food but also a respectful and enjoyable setting.
Ellie C — Google review
Friendly staff and amazing food, can definitely tell it is home-cooked! The desserts especially wow-ed us as my wife, who normally never likes or orders a dessert, loved the pistachio meringue!
Nigel H — Google review
The White Lion is a very smartly decorated public house, the decor very tasteful. The staff were especially friendly and helpful. The food served was great, I visited on a "curry night" which I really enjoyed. You received a warm empty plate and you went to a table containing two massive tureens containing three different curries and boiled rice. You filled your plate and you can go back as many times as you like for £12.95. There was a normal menu available in case something different was required. The toilets were really clean and well maintained. All in all a really good experience.
Ron S — Google review
Staff were the most rude ive ever expirienced, young girls aged around 16-18 swearing at you when you ask for them to heat up your food or complained Refused refund without even eating much of our food Physically forced out the pub Food was poured out of a bucket infront of you and was extremely dry flavourless cold just liquidy. This cost £20 per person

Nestled in the secluded and charming Steephill Cove, The Crab Shed is a hidden gem known for its delicious seafood offerings. Accessible only by foot or boat, this tiny cove is home to one of the island's best-kept secrets. The shed offers hot crab pasties, lobster salad, and mackerel ciabattas made from freshly caught seafood.
The lovely ladies and exceptional scenery of Steephill Cove make eating at The Crab Shed a wonderful experience and I haven't even mentioned the famous Crab Pasties yet! They were absolutely delicious, hot, straight out of the oven and tasted incredible! Crab mixed with vegetables inside a flaky pasty - what's not to love? The pictures say it all. You cannot miss this place, drop in and you won't be disappointed! Fabulous, thank you!

Delicious food in a beautiful little cove, well worth the climb down. We parked in the Botanical Gardens, cost £5 all day (the only option unless you are spending £20+ at the Botanical Gardens, then it's free). We walked up the road, past the lovely cricket club and took Love Lane, which leads to the path down to the cove.
Helen R — Google review
Genuinely some of the best food I've ever had - the salmon pasty was made of the flakiest, butteriest pastry I've ever eaten, filled with a generous amount of salmon and a lovely creamy sauce (dill I think?). Crab pasties looked lovely - I didn't have one, but those I was with did and said they were incredible, looked lovely even to me as someone who doesn't like seafood very much! Seating is limited but has a nice view of Steephill Cove, although you could also probably just leave and find a pretty spot to sit/.

The Crab Shed is situated in Steephill Cove. It is approximately 1.5 mile walk from Ventnor, following the Coastal Path. It is very hilly in place. We had heard such good this regarding this place, so decided to go. It is a cute place situated on the cove. It was busy despite it being early lunchtime time. We had come specifically for Crab. There was a queue and couldn't see Crab in the menu. Eventually asked a young member of staff, who was bringing out orders. I was informed they had run out of Crab pasties already and they had nothing else that contained it. We left very disappointed. I appreciate that it is a small business and cannot cater for everyone. I wouldn't bother walking there again. We returned to Ventnor and obtained Crab sandwiches from there.

We visit the crab shed all the time.. Perfect location, gorgeous food, and always lovely friendly staff. Crab pasties are epic, always enjoy them with a nice glass of wine!

The restaurant offers a variety of dining experiences, from casual cake and cappuccino breaks to hearty lunches and elegant three-course dinners. Many restaurants in the area focus on serving local seafood due to their proximity to the sea.
*Updated* New Brunch menu was amazing. Really tasty and visually stunning. I'm never disappointed when I come here. Lovely atmosphere, fantastic food. We had a great time there today (19/12/21) There was 7 of us and we all had different items off the menu & all of it was amazing. I would recommend to anyone that wants to try something a little different with big flavours.
Si S — Google review
So nearly all the food was perfect. One dish was not, which was the short rib as it was just fat, hard to cut and generally too oily, but I give this place 5 stars because of the way they dealt with it. They could see the issue and unexpectedly removed it from the bill and apologised. Great service and the rest of the food was excellent and our party was very very happy with the food. We ordered a lot of vegan food and this menu accommodates vegans well. Cocktails were great. Juliet was lovely and was knowledgeable about the menu because the restaurant did a great thing by allowing the staff to try the whole menu.
Thebritishiranian — Google review
The cocktails are brilliant ! Very tasty, well presented and lots of options. The food is also very yummy. Lots of lovely small plates which can be shared. The staff are very accommodating. I’ve had the double cheeseburger a few times and it’s lovely. I can also recommend the sumac lamb rump 👌🏼 This menu is expensive - £18.50 for a burger, but a nice place to go for a special occasion with a variety of food. The location is great too as it’s central Cowes so a great location if you want to go into town after.
Katie C — Google review
Recently visited for a roast dinner, completely underwhelmed which was incredibly disappointing. Had heard good things about this roast but at £18.95 a head I was expecting a lot better than I received, I personally felt that the quality of the beef was poor with lots on sinus running through it meaning that it was particularly stringy. Portion size was average with a small side plate or cauliflower cheese, won’t be returning for a roast again but willing to try other dishes next time.

Excellent food and great atmosphere. Friendly and efficient service. Rib eye steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the small plates we had for starters were tasty and interesting.

We visited, my daughter, who came for second stay. Dog friendly. Lovely place set in lovely grounds. No negatives. Very cosy with log burner. Well appointed. So clean. Self catering cottages. Just beautiful.

Short break here, stable cottage accommodation for 2 people we'll thought out and quite spacious, new indoor mat would have been appreciated as tiny one with curled up edges not ideal,a tripping hazard and not fit for purpose ie to wipe your feet 🙄 A couple of small drinking glass would be a nice addition. Over all a great stay as you get to wander their superb walled garden and if so wished a tour of the house.

Appley Manor Hotel, a beautifully restored Victorian establishment with an impressive observation tower, boasts well-appointed guestrooms complete with private bathrooms and an onsite restaurant. Patrons rave about their recent dining experiences, describing it as a nostalgic journey to the 90s with comforting homemade dishes like steak pie served alongside delicious gravy, vegetables, and mashed potatoes. The children's menu offers diverse options including the unconventional choice of a marmite sandwich. The generous portion sizes are commended for their value for money.
Lovely staff food always amazing and not long to wait for it. Price very reasonable due to large portion sizes.Only 5 minutes away from where I live. Can't comment on rooms as I have never stayed over.

The food was great and lovey nice size and great on the price 👌 Didn't stay in the hotel room only gone for the food. The bar was nice, but the problem was that the woman was on her own. When she did get help, the male walked past me to serving other customers when I was still waiting and was annoyed about it.

Had a meal here last night. Lovely large dining room. It does have an old worldly charm about it . Food arrived promptly. Great portion sizes and all really tasty. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Lovely gardens to sit out in, especially round the back of hotel.
Joanne M — Google review
We stayed for 2 nights and it was fantastic! The location is very quiet and not too far from Ryde, a short walk downhill through the park and you are right on the seafront. You can walk into Ryde or Seaview easily. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. Our room was spacious and spotless. It's not the most modern hotel but the staff make up for that. Our breakfast was reasonably priced and the food was excellent. We were offered refills for tea and toast and endless fruit juice. The main restaurant had locals eating as the food is great and well priced. Free WiFi and a fan in the room as standard. We will definitely be back.
