Pub
The Little Ale House is a cozy, family-owned pub with a welcoming atmosphere and an extensive selection of microbrews. Embracing the traditional style of a proper pub, this intimate establishment prioritizes conversation and rustic charm over modern distractions like TVs and background music. The pub's dog-friendly patio and ever-changing array of ales create a convivial setting for visitors to enjoy.
This ia a real gem of an alehouse. I don't go to pubs anymore - I much prefer a latte these days. But today I really fancied an ale as it was my birthday recently but it was midweek so I thought I'd treat myself today. So I googled pubs in Harrogate (I'm not from there) and this one came as highly recommended. And so right they were. I went around 12.30p on a Saturday amd the real fire was lit, there was a lit candle on each table, no music playing, no TV. Bliss! Great service and a fab dark beer. I cannot recommend it enough. Fabulous!

Made a special trip here for flat ciders, They had three different ones on. Friendly staff, lovely little pub with a beer garden at the back and on the front too. A real sun trap. Deffo will return here.
Andy S — Google review
Only made a quick half pint pit stop to this micro bar as Jorvic told me that it is in the CAMRA 2025 Good Beer Guide. Choice of 5 real ales. Casta told me to have the Wharfedale best. Very good. One room bar with small front terrace. Opens late afternoon.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
Ok I'm going to make a bit of a statement here, this is the nicest ale house in Harrogate. Stunning little place and very interesting. They had a few nice beers on and we enjoyed the nice little beer garden they have, you can also sit up front or down in the cellar. We'll Definity be returning for more beer.
Steven T — Google review
Absolutely amazing. The little cute boy Joshua who served me was one of the prettiest and sweetest servers I’ve ever had. He asked me out after I was done drinking and I’ve never felt younger again. Forget being 59 I felt 20 again. The beer garden was lovely and the inside was cosy. Will be back and not just for Joshua 😉
OLEDders — Google review
Best craft beer bar in Harrogate in my opinion, plenty of space inside and outside. Lots of options on keg or cask. Very nicely done out. I would definitely recommend going for any beer enthusiast
George T — Google review
Loved this place which had a good selection of beers and wine!
S T — Google review
My kind of pub---very welcoming staff, great beer and a few different seating spaces inside and outside, all blessedly free of music and TVs and filled with like-minded drinkers. I had a lovely time drinking in a cosy room with tables lit by candles and vintage furnishings.

Function room facility
Hales Bar, the oldest pub in Harrogate, is steeped in history and known for its eerie tales of poltergeists and mysterious shadows. The mid-18th century establishment boasts Victorian-era fixtures, including gas lighting that adds to its unique ambience. The pub offers classic food options and a selection of real ales in a well-preserved lounge bar area with original fittings.
Came for a quick drink with friends. First visit. Really nice cosy pub. Two bars, one very quiet and the other very busy. Not a huge place but we were able to get a table. The busy bar was much more warmer, welcoming and more interesting. Very good choice of drinks at reasonable prices. Service was friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.
Michael C — Google review
Casta assures me that I have been here before but I have no recollection, even of the gas lamps on the bar. A one room pub with a rear beer garden. A choice of 5 real ales in this Cask Marque pub. Jorvic chose the Rooster's Yorkshire best. Yummy scrummy! Lovely pub.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
It was so good! The oldest pub in Harrogate and it shows with its charming and antique features . Bar staff gave me a tour of the place and explained the history which was appriciated. Loved the pies and mash! I also had a lovely blonde beer that tasted perfect. You can tell the cask is well looked after! Thank you so much for a lovely rainy pit stop. And thank you to Tiggy behind the bar who was the funniest bar tender I ever met!

Fantastic bar , great atmosphere. A taste of old beers . Staff happy to let you taste beers before ordering. Proper old pupil house

Lovely bar, really enjoyed our visit. Didn't eat so could not rate the food. Great service, thanks to Suzi who made us really welcome.

A CAMRA Heritage pub with a classic interior you just have to see (Main bar to the right) All the cask ales appear to be locally brewed inc the Hale’s Pale which is spot on. A proper drinkers pub - no food served.
Mark N — Google review
Been coming to Harrogate for years and never visited this place. Proper old school pub with wide range of drinks. Many many original fittings including gas lighting. Amal but nice enclosed beer garden. Well worth a visit.
Jim D — Google review
Classic & oldest pub in town...lots of history. Nice, friendly & pretty lady at the bar. We just had the disappointing standard too weak UK beer & chips. In the USA beer is 5.4% to 7.5% alcohol & up...come on UK step it up! But don't drive after visiting Hales....but most folks walk due to no parking near by.

Nestled in the heart of Harrogate, Starling Independent Bar Cafe Kitchen is a charming stone-walled haven that perfectly blends British and global cuisine with an impressive selection of craft beers and specialty coffees. This inviting spot is conveniently located next to stylish accommodations, making it an ideal stop for both locals and visitors alike. Starling features ten craft keg taps and six cask hand pulls, showcasing a rotating lineup of guest ales alongside Pilsners, ciders, and gluten-free options.
Great place, food was fantastic, tried the beef sandwich+cup of soup of the day ,was a perfect post-gym pick me up 🤗. Beef was flavorful, juicy and a good portion. Had a mango-pineapple-passion fruit smoothie too, which was very delicious. Highly recommend!!! 🤌🏻🫶🏻 Good value for money.

We had our wedding reception at Starling in October 2025 for 80 guests. Joe was a great host and helped us make our day super special. As did all the staff at Starling who worked really hard to make our day run smoothly. The guests commented on how nice the pizzas were. The atmosphere was great and there was a good split for guests between the barn being the DJ room and the middle floor being a more relaxed area where people could talk. The service at the bar was great and efficient. We would not hesitate to recommend Starling for wedding or event.

Very comfortable place to enjoy breakfast or a really nice coffee or maybe a pint or some lovely food. Staff all super friendly recommend.

Very friendly real ale / coffee and cake shop . Very good choice of ales and plenty of places to seat as more rooms upstairs. We didn't try the food. However, it looks amazing .

Last stop of the evening for Casta and Jorvic. A CAMRA 2025 Good Beer Guide watering hole. Lovely one roomed bar wraps around the serving area, up to seven real ales. Well worth finding, good mix of people. Closes at 10pm? Another pint of Daleside Blonde. Yummy for my Tummy says Casta

Major Tom's Social is a vibrant and trendy bar located in Harrogate, established in 2014. This kid-friendly establishment offers a relaxed atmosphere with vintage furniture and serves craft beers along with oven-fired pies. It is known for its focus on vintage decor and as a music venue, making it one of the best pubs in the region for music enthusiasts. In addition to locally sourced guest beers, they offer fresh homemade pizzas and a variety of craft beers from well-known breweries.
Lovely pub with live music and a great selection of ciders and beers in a quirky location. The band here were fantastic
Finnuala Q — Google review
I had no idea what to expect about Tom's apart that it sold real ale and pizza. Walking upstairs above a charity shop, you can hear the buzz off the music and voices. Tha bar has a great selection of ales and choice of pizzas. The prices aren't cheap but still didn't put me off as this is usually the way. The venue has a great vibe with people of all ages just enjoying a beer and food. They also sell tee shirts with there logos. I would definitely recommend this place to stop off for a great pint and fantastic atmosphere.

A surprising entry to the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2025. A very eclectic establishment upstairs tbo an open bar Good real ale gets them into the guide. Jorvic bought me the Rooster's Yorkshire Best. Casta ordered a pizza. Good but the base was too soft, he likes a well done crispy base.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
I had a lovely pint of beer as I waited for our pizzas. Lovely selection of beers; tasty pizzas and great music being played. Most enjoyable.
Simon C — Google review
Ended up coming here during a party and had a great time! The beers were nice, the vibe was excellent, and the food was good. We didn’t get pizza but I wish we had, they looked delish
Sarah D — Google review
Nice casual craft beer place, would definitely come back to try their pizzas!
S T — Google review
I had to edit this review as we popped back in for another visit! This time we had a couple of cocktails and bought pizza! The margaritas were great, but the pizza was amazing. Many thanks AGAIN This was a really funky bar and the pizzas looked amazing. Loads of different beers on offer and from breweries close to Harrogate. These three tasted great. Many thanks
Adam R — Google review
A well established bar/social venue. Lovingly themed in a retro style. It's fairly unpretentious and diverse, as long as you can get up the stairs (I don't think there's a lift). It's also dog friendly. The drinks tend to be a really interesting selection, with a lean to craft and independent breweries. There are non-alcoholic beer options. The food is good, although pretty much limited to pizza or a couple of salads. There are several vegan pizza options. As it's open plan, it can be pretty loud at busy times - difficult to have a quiet conversation.

Alexandra is a spacious British pub located in a restored 19th-century hotel, offering craft beer, cask ales, and bar fare. The interior features Victorian-era woodwork and historical prints showcasing the history of Harrogate. Modern amenities include large screen TVs for watching live sports while enjoying food and drinks. The pub offers a variety of regular ales as well as rotating selections from local brewers.
I cant comment on the food because I didnt have any but the peroni was very nice, the staff were very friendly, the location was great, the pub was very nice inside and the toilets were clean. A very ice pub indeed.
Robert B — Google review
Very small portion sizes in contrast to previous reviews. 6 pigs in blankets for £5.50 is rather extortionate. It took almost 1 hour for 2 pies to come out - it was not overly busy. The staff were apologetic which was appreciated. Would not recommend as portion sizes are bad and the food is average.

Stopped in Harrogate for lunch and found this bar, looks great inside with some history thrown in (check out the walls). Unfortunately when we got there they had no Sunday lunches left but did have a steak and ale pie which was amazing and the veg with it was nice too. I would 100% recommend.

Nestled within the historic remnants of Harrogate's original train station, the Harrogate Tap is a charming pub that beautifully marries tradition with a vibrant beer culture. With its inviting wood-panelled interiors and Victorian decor, this cozy spot offers an impressive selection of over 130 bottled beers from around the globe, alongside 12 cask ales and 15 modern keg taps. The atmosphere here is enhanced by its railway heritage, making it an ideal stop for travelers heading to Leeds or York.
Fantastic range of beers, ales, lagers etc. Super conveniently located at the railway station. Space to sit outside if you want to, but the inside is a gloriously old school wood panelled and tiled floors joy. Plenty of friendly staff!

A fabulous pub located next to Harrogate train station. The service is really friendly and the selection of brilliant beers is extensive. Jorvic and Casta having a mini break in Harrogate. Starting here in this wonderful station bar. Part of the super Pivovar pub collection. All great. This completes the set. Only our second trip to Harrogate. Twelve real ales to chose from. Casta told me to have the 4.2% best bitter " Cannon" by Tapped Brew. Excellent. Lovely two room bar with plush fittings, lots of wood panneling and leather bench seating. Some outdoor seating in front of the car park. No direct access to train platforms unless in an emergency. Great start. Well worth its place in CAMRA 2025 Good Beer Guide.

Built at the train station, the Harrogate tap is a great place to wait for your train and relax with a drink or have one after a long train journey. Lots of cask and keg beers in a relaxed environment. I went for a cask after checking what was on using untapped app. The bar is an old school wooden affair that suits the age of the building. Will call in again when I next go to Harrogate.

North Bar is a well-known and picturesque bridal boutique located in North London, with its flagship store in Islington. The owners, Jane and Maria, have extensive experience in the industry and offer a diverse collection of gowns to cater to various tastes. Moving northward, Ripon is a charming town featuring attractions such as the magnificent Cathedral, marina area, gardens, racecourse, and interesting museums.
Always a delight. A fantastic range of Craft and Real Ales and plenty of window space to watch the world go by. On my latest visit felt the place could do with some maintenance. The Disabled Toilet was out of order as was one of the Gents toilets. In addition for a brewery there was no North beers on.

What a nice surprise. I didn't expect Real Ale in the North Bar. But they had two on - both very good. Also, a nice, relaxed atmosphere and really nice staff. I would definitely recommend and I'll definitely be going back. Excellent!!

A really pleasant place to go and enjoy a pint or two. Outdoor seating area in the sunshine as well as comfortable seats inside. The guy that served us was lovely and gave off the sort of vibe that he enjoyed his job. Table service was offered, but that would have prevented us from umming and ahhing over the huge choice of beers! Board games available to play (as well as Uno style games) Nice clean toilets- always a bonus!

The Fat Badger is a stylish English pub located in Harrogate, with a terrace and traditional food. The pub offers a cozy atmosphere, especially during colder months, and has outdoor seating for warmer days. It's known for its roast dinners featuring tender meat and seasonal vegetables, as well as its Sunday set menu offering starters and desserts. The menu caters to various dietary preferences with vegan and gluten-free options, along with small plates for those who prefer variety.
We had a really nice Sunday lunch here. The Sunday set menu offers great value for money. The roast beef was good and came with the biggest Yorkshire pudding I've ever seen. There's some vegetarian opinions on the menu. It's well worth getting the side portion of Cauliflower and cheese sauce. They had a good range of local beers on offer. It is accessible to wheelchair users, but it's very tight to get up the ramp to the side of the main entrance.

Absolutely brilliant on all counts. Great gasto-pub. Love the theme, the atmosphere. Great location, the seating outside is perfect. We had two dogs with us and they're more than welcome outside. Umbrellas and good heaters to keep you warm when the weather is a little less than ideal. All the staff were super friendly and helpful and the food was brilliant! We ended up eating at The Fat Badger in York as well 2 days later because we loved it so much. Both locations were equally as good! When we're next in the area we'll definitely eat here. Thoroughly recommend. Even parking on site! (Although a little more expensive than in town, but for the convenience totally worth it! )
Tony C — Google review
A great find. A lovely old bar style in a grand building in the heart of Harrogate. We popped in en route to York and just wanted a quick sandwich. We chose just a cheese and chutney sandwich, thinking it was just going to be basic and something to fill a gap. However, it came in a beautiful, warm crusty bread. The sweet onion chutney was wonderful and this was accompanied by a nice, leafy salad in a pleasant dressing and some crisps. We really enjoyed it. I must say, the main meals looked a bit pricey, but we were OK with the sandwich price, just under £9, if I remember correctly. No worries with beers and lagers, a good selection. I chose Black Sheep beer, which went well with the sandwich. The staff were pleasant and helpful. There is a parking charge of £1.50 per hour at the covered car park adjacent. You can pay outside or inside the pub. We'll certainly be popping in when we are in Harrogate again.

Didn't eat, stopped by when it was raining to drink a tasty coffee and soak up the ambience. Found a lovely place to eat, plenty of room, really well appointed, great people, food looked lovely too. Comfy and a great place to stop by in Harrogate.
Chris M — Google review
Great food, great staff. We had a beautiful meal at the Fat Badger. Our evening started with a drink at the bar; very busy as this was a Friday night, but the bar staff were really efficient and we didn't have to wait for long to be served despite the crowds. A shout out to Esther who was so pleasant and welcoming and suggested some white wines for us. She also provided directions for where to go for our meal. We sat in the side dining room which was busy but was quiet (not too quiet) but still a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately I did not get the name of our waiter who was just excellent (I think he may have been French?) Delicious chowder soup to start with and we opted for the duck (cooked to perfection) and Risotto (a starter which came as a main). The wine was beautiful as well, and while we didn't opt for dessert (despite them looking gorgeous!) we did have a lovely coffee and liqueur to finish. We headed back to the bar after which was even busier and we were served by Esther again, who asked how our meal was. A pleasant surprise that she remembered us as the bar was standing room only at this stage! We managed to find a table in the corridor outside the bar which was also very busy and still had a great atmosphere. I would definitely recommend Fat Badger for the food, atmosphere, ambience and service - top notch

Oddly not in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide nor hosting a Cask Marque but a superb selection of 10 real ales. ( Follow The Great British Pub Crawl on YouTube for pub tips when visiting anywhere new to you. ) Casta saw that Tetley's bitter was on sale. Joshua Tetley's Leeds brewery closed a long time ago but whoever brews this is still doing a good job. A very upmarket pub with a super beer patio wrapping round the the front and side.

Under new ownership since 1996, the pub has flourished into a popular destination under John Nelson's leadership.
Casta thinks we came here about 10 years ago? Anyway, Jorvic likes this well fettled pub opposite the West Park. Good choice of local beers. I had the locally brewed Daleside Blonde. Five real ales on handpump out of six max on our visit. Another Cask Marque pub. Upstair area for dining. Downstairs for both drinking and eating. ( HARTLEPOOL HADDOCK!, didn't know they still had a fishing fleet.)

Staff are really attentive and food tastes good and well presented. The menu has only 1 vegetarian option and it was curry! I was so shocked. I would choose somewhere else to go as it didn’t feel very child friendly no high chair offered.

Nice Pint of house lager at a reasonable price. Although pub was quiet it still had a “ proper pub feel to it. A few nights before I had two very poor pints of lager in the District Bar which was shocking. Coach and Horses a resounding winner.

Really fantastic Sunday roast. Meat cooked perfectly (beef came out perfectly pink as requested) with plentiful sides - lots of greens and roast veg all great quality. Friendly service, beautiful surroundings and decor and great drinks selection. Strongly recommend!

Poor start. Didn’t have our booking. Finished up in the tap room. Nobody came for our order…. I think they had forgotten we were there so I ordered at the bar. After waiting 40 minutes went back to the bar to enquire what was happening, then like magic our meals arrived! We were asked what the food was like etc, but you can’t really balls up scampi and a steak and ale pie!! When we had finished our meal as nobody came for a sweet order went to the bar and paid & left. Was asked if everything was ok … I replied what do you think.

Lovely dog friendly pub. Unfortunately we just got there too late for food but the Timothy Taylor's Landlord was excellent. Will be going again when we are in Harrogate next.

Sadly, dispite hopes being high, they were dashed when dear friends took me out for lunch. Two young servers who were lackadaisical in their service. The girl was stoppy and unveiling and the lad forgetful on several occasions for venues etc. Food came out in stages, not all together and could have been hotter. Portions of veg were very small, eg 3 very small florets of cauliflower cheese for £4.50!!! Prices were good for main meals but not enough to get me back, sorry.

Fab pub, great atmosphere, full of friendly locals, very very dog and child friendly which was brilliant as we brought both! All the staff were lovely, attentive and couldn’t help enough. Food was pretty good, great menu, very well presented, puddings are incredible, especially the toffee cheesecake!

Thank you for a great dinner at £13.50 it was good deal , anyone wanting a few meats paid a little bit more . Thank you ☺️

We went for Mother's Day today. We were welcomed warmly on arrival by the owner. We were quickly shown to our table and didn't have to wait long to order drinks or food. I opted for a small size Sunday dinner and had turkey. The meal size was just right and delicious. There were plenty of options for one of our party who is coeliac. The service was great and all the staff were friendly. It was a nice busy atmosphere, we enjoyed our visit and will be back.

We had a really warm welcome here when we visited last week. The food was amazing, My husband had the ribs and raved about how good they were. I had the steak and ale pie with chips, thoroughly enjoyed it. I could have eaten more of the chips they were so good.

Never in my life have I had a burger at a restaurant as flavoursome as the one I had the other day (and I have eaten a lot of burgers, as a fussy eater). So juicy, so boujie, fanciest burger and dessert I've ever eaten. I'd never been to The Knox before, but I know people who go there often, and I can see why. Good choice of drinks, AMAZING food, nice staff, lovely decor (big fan of the cow print booths), decent prices, and an overall great experience. Can't wait to visit in the summer!!

Visited this pub whilst staying in an Air B&B for GYS. We were delighted with the place. A nice choice of food, welcoming staff and we turned up on the acoustic music night. As regular visitors to live music events what's not to love? Sunny weather, good food and music! We even had some good chats with regulars and visitors alike. Will definitely return next time we're in the area.

Located at 1 Abbey Road, HG5 8HY, The Half Moon Free House is a popular riverside establishment offering a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. With original bare brick walls and a real fire, it exudes a cozy vibe during the winter months. The pub serves cask ales, fine wines, international lagers, beers and spirits.
Another lovely evening for us at The Half Moon, the food is absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The coffee here is so good and the salted caramel and pecan brownie is to die for !!Tom and his team are so friendly and welcoming. This is one of our favourite places whether we come as a couple, bring our dogs or our friends we always enjoy our visits.

When I was here, I got the impression that this is most definitely a "foodie" pub. Yet, although I only came for a pint or two, I wasn't made to feel pressured into food, nor shamed for taking up a table. (the food looked great by the way). Speaking of the pint, they had four Real Ales on, one of which was Goose Eye Over & Stout, which was truly excellent. The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere so relaxed, I could have stayed there all night. Strongly recommended. If you are in Knaresborough, put The Half Moon on your "must do" list.

Well worth the walk from town to this pub set in a stunning location by the river and only a 12 minute river walk to the 🚂 station although there are 80-odd steps to climb along the way. 4 cask ales available along with a large wine selection plus hot beverages.

Came here with my friend as we were hungry after all day exploring. She ordered cheese platter with bread, butter, and different cheeses and grapes. Cold Bath Brewing Co, located in the spa town of Harrogate, draws inspiration from European countries like Belgium and the Czech Republic to create clean session craft beers using Yorkshire water. The brewery's Taproom on Kings Road serves as the hub for recipe development and offers a variety of their locally-sourced malt and hops-based beers. With a modern twist on the traditional pub, this brewery pub provides an open and contemporary atmosphere perfect for beer enthusiasts.
Casta spotted the one Harrogate Brewery we had never tried. Sat opposite the conference centre is the micro brewery and Tap room. Three of their beers sold via handpump plus another 11 on keg tap. Jorvic spotted a second room selling Japanese/Korean inspired food. There is also a front covered patio. Useful on a wet July afternoon.

Great selection of beers and ales, and the wine on offer was excellent. Dog friendly. Visited on a Friday early evening and the place filled up quickly. Lovely sunny spot at the end of the day. The food was very tasty. Expected the staff to be a lot friendlier from the reviews but they seemed more interested in each other, it was busy however struggled to get a smile even when being served.
Katy H — Google review
Friendly staff with a good selection of beers, particularly their own. Mainly keg with a small cask offering. A large choice of bar snacks available (main food offering was not available at the time of my visit). Spacious inside and out, with a roof over the outside seating so was still decent when raining. I'd say it was lacking a little bit of what I would class as top class craft beer but still nice.
Daniel M — Google review
Really good pint in a cool setting. The choices are so many for the beer that anyone could find one they like. Set aside an afternoon or evening and get tasting.

Busy brew pub serving a number of interesting keg beers and a couple of cask ales. Staff explained what beers they had, not cheap but decent Place generally buzzing. Great choice of fast Asian food. But too many dogs allowed to wander around inside, together with on Friday night a dog standing on the furniture being fed. Come it's becoming too dog friendly.
Kevan F — Google review
So it has so many positives but, on the night I visited, the bare-bones of it has to be beer focused and on that score it's nice but missing the "punch". Now I'd just got back from holiday and trying some very exciting Croatian Nova Runda brews but the Hazys and the Fruities just didn't deliver enough. However as a venue it was lovely...really diverse (for Harrogate) old, young, babies in prams and dogs of all sizes so 90% success and all heart for the next step

Impressive draft beer selection from the category 1 to 10. Owner recommended 5 1/2 option - perfect for a larger pour. 🍺 love it 😍 and it would be the best tap larger I tried so far in the UK, this is probably due to the local spring water.

Making my first ever visit to this CAMRA Good Beer Guide regular with Jorvic and Casta. Throw in a Cask Marque as well. Five real ales available on our visit with a couple waiting to go on. This is one of my favourite pubs of all time. I think the landlady has been here around 7 years & she has done an amazing job. It's consistently good every time I visit. A splendid real ale pub on the market square. Named after a local legend. Casta and Jorvic told me that it is a CAMRA Good Beer Guide entry for 2025. Easy to see why. The very " Red" interior is splendid. I had a Castle Rock brewery 3.8% Pale. Very good. A two roomed pub downstairs with some front seating on the market place. Also 2 room upstairs space as well. Also toilets up here. More upmarket than the one on the ground floor.

Best pub in Knaresborough. No arguments. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and a wonderful selection of beers. A gem of a pub.
Clif A — Google review
As a visitor from Scotland, here is a my review of Blind Jack's in Knaresborough, a pub that feels both familiar and refreshingly different. Blind Jack's is the kind of pub that instantly puts a smile on your face. Stepping in from the bustling market square, you're greeted by an atmosphere that feels both ancient and alive. For a Scot, it's a bit like finding a proper old boozer in Glasgow or Edinburgh—all bare brick, dark wood, and a genuine, unpretentious vibe. Plus we were staying in the apartments next door, so not far to stagger back to bed. The first thing I noticed is the "no food, no music" policy. This isn't a place for a quiet meal; it's a place for a good blether. The air is filled with the low hum of conversation and the clinking of glasses. It feels like a throwback in the best possible way, where the main event is the company and the excellent beer. And the beer... ah, the beer. Blind Jack's is a true alehouse, and they take their craft seriously. The selection is fantastic, with a rotating list of cask and keg beers, often featuring brilliant local Yorkshire brews. It's a real treat to explore a different region's beer scene, and you'll find plenty to satisfy a Scottish palate accustomed to good ale. They also have an impressive gin menu and a great selection of other spirits, but sadly no Glayva or Drambuie however there's something for everyone. The pub itself is a warren of little rooms spread across a few floors. You can find a cozy nook downstairs or venture up the steep, dog-legged staircase to the upstairs rooms. Each space has its own character, with vintage posters and quirky decor, including a room dedicated to the Holland-America shipping line for some reason! One of the most charming things about Blind Jack's is its namesake, John "Blind Jack" Metcalf, a legendary 18th-century road builder from the area. We read all about him when we visited the castle and museum. There's a life-size drawing of him on the stairway wall, and a bronze likeness of him on a bench outside in the square. It's a lovely touch that connects the pub to the town's history. As a visitor from Scotland, Blind Jack's feels like a home away from home, but with a unique Yorkshire flavour. It's a testament to the fact that a great pub doesn't need fancy bells and whistles—it just needs good beer, a friendly atmosphere, and a story to tell. If you're in Knaresborough and you fancy a proper pint, this is the place to be. You'll leave feeling like you've had a truly authentic experience and maybe, just maybe, you'll be tempted to move down here, we’re thinking about it, and if not we’re definitely visiting again !!

Very simply - if I lived in Harrogate, this would be my local. Friendly staff and friendly customers. Excellent Cask Ales. Music but not intrusive. Dog-friendly. All round lovely pub. Credit to all.

Think Cheers bar but smaller and more “Yorkshire”. It’s just a great pub. The banter across the bar is legendary and it’s so full of characters. It’s something about the shape of the bar that presents itself as soon as you open the door. Sure there are spaces for privacy but for me it’s all about the bar. It forces you to socialise and share stories. The beer is excellent but that’s not the main thing. It’s everything a pub should be. A place to meet, to walk the dog, to debate, share stories and have a laugh. It’s an oasis of fun, an escape from the hum drum and a timeless reminder of why pubs must never die. Long live the Dev.

Had a great time here. Was recommended as a great dog friendly pub with great beer options and fab pizza. They weren’t wrong. Can’t recommend enough! Lovely staff and customers!

The Devonshire Tap House has an excellent selection of beer (cask and draft), great staff, and is in a very interesting building. I am very happy that they reopened this establishment. This place was previously called 10 Devonshire Place and it was closed in later 2018....

Pleasurable find, Great beer and very friendly

Quality local, less than 30 seconds away. Great, friendly staff (especially Courteney & Ali), a quality range of drinks, especially gins (Harrogate prices unfortunately) and 2 inside/outside smoking rooms. Plus a range of highly random board games, quiz nights, and live music Wednesdays. Haven't eaten here, except from the excellent range of bar snacks, and I mean really good range with some classics thrown in, but I hear the pizzas are good. Extremely dog-friendly with free bar-dog treats at the bar. Highly recommend
