Valley Gardens Harrogate is a renowned English Heritage Grade II listed park that showcases the vibrant floral beauty of Harrogate. Spanning 17 acres, it boasts colorful seasonal flower displays and features an Art Deco pavilion, a skate park, and a playground for kids. The park also offers various sporting activities such as tennis and golf. Valley Gardens holds historical significance as it was where many of Harrogate's springs were discovered.
I visited Valley Gardens alone and really enjoyed it. The tennis courts and mini golf made it fun and active, but the highlight for me was the beautiful Japanese Garden. It’s peaceful and perfect for a quiet walk. A great place to relax or spend a few hours outdoors

A short walk in Valley Gardens during a day out in Harrogate. It is a beautiful park that offers not only green area where you can have picnic, walk your dog, jog or have family time; it offers you a tranquil space with lots of flowers and plants where you can unwind and immerse yourself in nature's beauty. The park has well maintained grounds, you can visit Japanese Garden, New Zealand garden, woodlands or be active and spend some time at boating pool, skate park, tennis court, crazy golf, paddling pool or playground. Whatever you decide to to, the place has something to offer to everyone. If you need some refreshments, there is a cafe and refreshments spot next to Games Pavilion. Toilets available as well.

What an absolute gem of a park. Very picturesque, serene and pleasant walk through with a beautiful victoriana style cafe and beautiful views across the park. Plenty of benches for seating. I saw a few dog walkers. One thing I notices was how clean and well kept it was. Also, I didn't see any noticeable dog doodoos which was great. I could spend a day there with a book, flask with hot tea and snacks and relax and down tools. It has a very calming aura. I think there's a hotel on the higher ground overlooking the park? I think it's a lovely place to go to get some quiet time or to go for a nice sit and chat.

Absolutely stunning! Valley Gardens in Harrogate is a true gem, offering a tranquil space to unwind and immerse yourself in nature’s beauty. The vibrant display of exotic flowers, the soothing sounds of running water and elegant fountains, and the well-maintained playing and picnic areas make it an ideal spot for visitors of all ages. Whether you’re enjoying a relaxed afternoon in the dedicated sitting areas, having fun at the party space, or engaging in lawn tennis or a quick football match, there’s something for everyone. And to top it off, a nearby ice cream and coffee shop ensures you can treat yourself while soaking in the serene surroundings. A five-star destination for nature lovers and families alike!

Possibly the most beautiful public park I’ve ever visited. This park is incredible. The variety of gardens and woodland is stunning and the children’s play area is incredible. There are food vendors within the park and you can easily spend a few hours just walking around.

Beautiful park, amazing trees and plants. Had a funfair in park if you have little ones. Live music and has tennis courts and mini golf. Not sure if fair and live music on all time but we went on Sunday 27th July.

“A real jewel of Harrogate — the Valley Gardens are bursting with colour, winding paths, and hidden corners. From the elegant Sun Pavilion to the Japanese Garden, it’s a place where every turn feels like it's straight from a postcard. Whether you’re strolling with family, stopping for coffee, or simply breathing in the roses, it’s a slice of calm and beauty in the middle of town and bursting with charm.

First time visit and a truly lovey gardens. Love band playing which had a good crowd. A farmers/craft market was also on, plenty of choice and all good quality but we didn’t purchase anything on this occasion.

RHS Garden Harlow Carr in Harrogate offers specially designed gardens that showcase the Yorkshire landscape, featuring trails, a log maze, and charming tea rooms. The garden hosts engaging events like 'Under Your Feet,' where families can explore the world of mini-beasts and learn about underground wildlife's vital role in maintaining beautiful and healthy gardens. Visitors can also enjoy Forest School outdoor workshops and become Garden Detectives.
A great day out exploring Harlow Carr. Entry was cheap due to a national lottery event where you only had to buy a lotto ticket to get £1 entry. I felt this was good as it was early spring so not as much to see as later in the year. Having said that, this is still a beautiful place. Very peaceful and relaxing walking around. Great play areas for the kids and good food choices on site

I visited over the weekend for the first time and it is an absolute gem; it was an unforgettable experience. Every section in the resort is designed for relaxation and experiencing nature. I particularly appreciate the exceptional staff on premise; I had an issue and they went beyond and above to look after me. The experience left a lasting impression and added a sense of luxury throughout my stay. I look forward to returning soon and creating more memories.
J. Y — Google review
Loved it here. It was my first visit and the gardens are truly beautiful. Plants and trees are well established and currently displaying autumn colours in all their glory. Well worth visiting here. It's also worth converting your day ticket into an annual membership.
Carol B — Google review
What a wonderful place to visit, within walking distance of the centre of Harrogate! I came here on a coach trip, and stayed about two and a half hours. A lady at the entrance greeted us and gave us all a free map, which I found very helpful. Adult admission is £16.80 (it's £12.50 if you pre-book online), 5-16's get in for £5, and under-5's and RHS members go free. Lots of free parking. The garden is extensive, with well maintained tarmac and gravel paths, and a few hilly parts and steps, but most of it is wheelchair accessible, and you can hire a wheelchair or scooter at the entrance. Harlow Carr is a delight to explore, with colourful flower borders, a streamside walk, sandstone rock garden, lily ponds, a small lake, wildflower meadows, an arboretum, and much more. It all looked beautifully kept, the plants clearly labelled. I particularly loved strolling through woodland filled with lovely rhododendrons, azaleas, and other flowering shrubs, and relaxing on a swing bench among palms and exotic plants in the subtropical garden. There are plenty of wooden benches and shelters, picnic areas, toilets at the entrance and dotted around the garden, and a children's adventure playground and tree house in the woods. Three cafes, a garden centre and two gift shops. Betty's Tea House is the ideal place to chill: great view of the garden, and a good selection of drinks, cakes and sandwiches. The coffee was very good. Did not get to see all the gardens (you need at least three hours), but I thoroughly enjoyed wandering around them and getting close to nature. Will definitely come again!
Valerie H — Google review
Absolutely recommend. We got there by bus and there is a stop right off of the grounds which made it convenient. (Be sure to ask for the discount for not driving when you pay for entry. I think it’s 30% off for taking the bus or walking or biking). The cafe had a nice variety. The garden was extensive and so beautiful. Tons of space to lay out a blanket and enjoy the day. Def recommend staying for at least 2 hours (minimum) but you can spend the entire day here.
L M — Google review
This place is a gem! Judging by the car park a lot of people already know. As to be expected, the gardens were beautiful and more plants than you can shake a stick at. There is a Betty's cafe right at the entrance and another inside, the food is homemade and very nice. Staff are very helpful and pleasant. You can hire a mobility scooter if required. It seems a little pricey for entrance fee.....but where isn't? However they have a number of exceptions which can reduce the cost. Not knowing what to expect prior to entry my wife and I were pleasantly surprised. I would highly recommend.....go early!
Mike H — Google review
Harlow Carr is a beautiful place to visit with so much to see and learn about different plants. It feels really open and peaceful, and there are fun activities along the way to keep children entertained. The two cafés are a bonus – especially having a Betty’s on site – and the shop often has discounted plants, which is great if you love gardening. A lovely spot for families or anyone who enjoys being outdoors.

A fabulous place to visit. We go every season so much to see and its wonderful watching the newer projects as they develop. Plenty of places to eat and drink at reasonable prices. Though if you want to splash out there is always an option to visit Bettys Tea room and shop. Play area for the children and plenty of seating to relax in.

Bettys Café Tea Rooms is a renowned and iconic establishment in Harrogate, Yorkshire, dating back to 1919. It has become a beloved spot for locals and tourists alike. The tearoom offers both formal afternoon teas and casual dining with a British menu. Visitors can expect an elegant setting with silver cake stands, fine china, and staff dressed in period costumes.
Our friend who lived in Harrogate for years suggested we go to Betty's for tea and it didn't disappoint! There was a line outside but it moved quite fast and we were seated within ten minutes. I got the club sandwich and my husband got the afternoon tea. Everything was yummy and looked fantastic! The service was stellar and the decor was very nice inside. We really enjoyed the afternoon there! I would highly recommend it.
Monica B — Google review
Bettys afternoon tea was a delight. Been recommended by many people in the Harrogate area, so I took the wife. She absolutely loved it. She had the raspberry tea and me, the coffee. Sandwiches were good, scones were great, make sure you ask for more clotted cream and jam, you don’t have to pay extra, the cakes were delightful. Could do with a couple more though 😋 Unsure if extras, like additional cakes and sandwiches are free, some people around were getting additional, we were offered an additional sandwich which we took and it was not added to the bill, which was a nice surprise. Stunning tea room, clean decor. Love pianist playing in the corner of he room is a beautiful touch. Service was great, very attentive. Lena looked after us well. Overall, a highly recommended experience if you’re in the area. You can book online or queue up outside in the huge queue that is there daily!
Craig B — Google review
We were blown away by the friendly customer service, all the staff were superb especially Karen who popped back to our table to ask if we wanted any more sandwiches cakes or tea, which were all delicious. We didn't feel rushed at all, seated in the Imperial room we had already booked ahead. The rooms decor was extremely beautiful and the piano playing created an unique background to this special occasion.
Paula T — Google review
My wife having ordered online previously and seen the shop when last in Harrogate over 3 years ago had suggested we go in. Whilst an orderly queue was formed outside, we patiently waited for about 5 - 10 mins. Inside we were seated and served by attentive and professional staff. Ok, so we only had sandwiches, hot chocolate and gooey fat rascals - they were by far some of the nicest we have had.
Michael L — Google review
A must visit when you are in Harrogate even if you need to queue. The wait is not long. Betty's has a very cosy ambience. The menu is extensive and makes you want to try many dishes. We decided on the English breakfast including the vegan option. Accompanied by a pot each of Betty's tea blend and Breakfast tea. The desserts were yummy too (Engadine Torte and the Fruit Tart).
Huisze S — Google review
Queued around 20 mins to get in. Queue combers bring menus and a few little tasters from the shop which was nice. We got in and were given a table right in the window with peoples bottoms for eyes on us at all times. Maybe some privacy screening might be an idea. We were quite uncomfortable but staff were unable to help. The food and drink was nice, no complaints about quality and the price isn’t too bad considering. Staff are professional but rushed off their feet. Can’t help feeling they have jammed as many tables in as physically possible and you’re really paying for the name of Betty’s. The prices in the shop were extortionate. Won’t be rushing back. The location js ideal though with parking nearby and lots to do locally.

Absolutely fantastic, we had a great time. I have always wanted to go and our visit did not disappoint. The atmosphere was great we had the pianist near us adding to the ambience. The food was delicious. Our server was attentive, kind and friendly. It was our anniversary and our server made sure it was special. Would highly recommend a fabulous experience.
Ceri B — Google review
Very famous and iconic destination for tea, cakes, scones and hot food. We were a group of nine but split up into a 5 and 4 table. It gets very busy and there is an orderly queue outside. You have to wait in line before being seated. I think we waited for about 25mins before being taken into our table. The lady keeping things in check was very organised and on point, hats off to her as youd have to be. Once in, the restaurant was warm, and it didn't feel cramped. It was very well organised, the service was excellent. We were seated, and I think we probably waited another 7ish minutes before our order was taken. It was quite a big restaurant with seating all round the back and sides and I think there was a mezzanine level as well. The food was good. I had the avocado and poached egg on sourdough bread which was delicious. Accompanied with a pot of earl grey. My mum wife and friend had a mix of croquet monsieur, scone and a slice of coffee cake. Nice ambience. We didn't feel rushed and had a pleasant relaxing meal. Good experience, not the cheapest but you have to come. There's also a shop to the right as you come in selling, tea, coffee, scones, biscuits and totee bags etc. Rather expensive but we left with a lovely tin of spiced tea. Good all round experience, if youre not the patient type and not in a rush, then this is the place to come. I would probably go back with my wife and try more of the cakes.

Harrogate Theatre, a historic venue dating back to 1788, offers a diverse range of live entertainment in its gilded auditorium. Located on Cheltenham Parade, the theatre hosts various performances including theatre, comedy, music, and family shows such as pantomime. In addition to the main house on Cheltenham Parade, Harrogate Theatres also operates the Royal Hall and several other venues around town.
Lovely little theatre. Nice staff to greet you. Comfortable seating. Cosy bar for refreshments. Good sound and visual experience.
Audrey G — Google review
Seats are really uncomfortable. Mine was angled slightly below 90°, so after a while it like sitting in a stress position. The front row is too close to the stage and my neck was really aching by the end. Building looks stunning though
Jdwilsh — Google review
This theatre is in the centre of Harrogate fronting onto a pedestrianised zone. This means you'll need to use the nearby car parks, leaving you just a short walk to the theatre. The theatre is very old and has fantastic ornamentation on the upper boxes, ceiling and stage surroundings. It's a little gem and worth a visit. There are two bar areas and ample seating.
Steve R — Google review
My first visit to Harrogate Theatre, to see a Neil Diamond tribute, and I was enchanted by building. Celebrating its 125th Anniversary in 2025, the theatre is in very good order and full of period features. The staff and volunteers who run it are pleasant and helpful. In addition to the main 500 seat auditorium, there's also a small 60 seat Studio Theatre upstairs. A delightful place that I'll certainly revisit
John D — Google review
Been here a few times, the building is beautiful and the shows we have been to were awesome, staff are great too. My only gripe I am less than 6 foot, I am pretty small yet they have done their best to pack way too many people in, I have a knee issue and sitting like that does not feel good at all, I appreciate it's to make as much money as possible but it's a shame. I'd give 4.5 if I could, but 4 it is.
Detank — Google review
Been here a few times to see bands, and it's a great spot. I think the ushers are volunteers, and they do an ace job. Some seats don't have much leg room, so I always book the front row or row N in the stalls.

The Stray is a historic parkland dating back to the 1700s, featuring a picturesque lane of cherry trees. Harrogate, where The Stray is located, has a rich history as an English spa town and retains vestiges of its past with places like Bettys Cafe and Valley Gardens. The area boasts elegant addresses such as Park Avenue and Regent Parade, with properties ranging from semi-detached houses to large Victorian-era homes.
Visited The Stray in Harrogate this spring just few minutes from where I reside, and it was absolutely magical. I never imagined it to be so magical when everyone told me I should wait for the cherry blossoms to bloom when I moved here in Jan this year. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom, creating a stunning pink canopy that stretched for what felt like miles. It honestly looked like something out of a fairytale – perfect for a peaceful walk or snapping some photos. There were so many tourists and visitors who spend their day here on picnic and family gathering this spring ! The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, with families, couples, and dog walkers all out enjoying the sunshine and blossoms. You can really feel the sense of community here. It’s amazing how such a wide, open space can feel both lively and tranquil at the same time. Being right in the middle of town, it’s the perfect place to take a break, grab a coffee nearby, and just enjoy the beauty of nature. If you’re in Harrogate during blossom season, The Stray is an absolute must-see. It’s absolutely magical !!!
Subhashi J — Google review
The Stray is a wonderful resource all year round whether you want a leisurely stroll, a picnic or a football match! It’s lovely to see so many people enjoying the space throughout the seasons. We love the crocuses and daffodils, then the cherry blossom in May, and the horse chestnut blossoms later on. Both kids learned to ride a bike here (though they’re not allowed on the paths) and we have very happy memories of playing together over the years :-)
Catherine W — Google review
I came here during cherry blossom season. This could be a place in Yorkshire truly worth visiting for healing. There are two paths, each lined with two rows of tall cherry blossom trees. The sunlight, the cool breeze, and the petals drifting in the air make it a masterpiece.
Khánh N — Google review
One of the most breathtaking places I have ever visited! The Stray is truly magical, especially in spring when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Walking under the canopies of pink blossoms feels like stepping into a fairytale — it’s simply unforgettable. The open green fields are immaculately kept, offering the perfect space for peaceful walks, photography, or just lying back and admiring the scenery. The atmosphere is vibrant yet calming, with the gentle breeze carrying the scent of flowers and the sight of endless blossoms dancing in the air. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to pause, reflect, and appreciate the simple beauty of nature. Street parking is convenient, and being open 24 hours means you can enjoy it at sunrise, sunset, or any time in between. A must-visit if you are in Harrogate — it’s pure magic in every step!
Don W — Google review
In Harrogate, where gardens grace The land with charm and measured pace, Each spring unveils a quiet spell— A time when blossoms softly swell. The cherry trees, in blushing hue, Compose a scene serene and true, Where nature speaks with modest pride, And beauty blooms on every side. Beneath this floral canopy, Both guest and local wander free. With every step, a gentle breeze Conveys the poise of ancient trees. No haste is found, nor voice too loud— Just murmurs drifting through the crowd. It is a time to pause, reflect, And offer nature due respect. Such moments, though they swiftly pass, Leave memories that long shall last. For in this town of quiet grace, Spring finds its most distinguished place. And those who visit, near or far, Depart with hearts where blossoms are— A soft reminder, bright and true, Of Harrogate in April’s hue.
V V — Google review
The Stray is a huge area of open land in Harrogate, but at this time of year most people are visiting one particular section of it which is the avenues of blossom trees. It was very dull and overcast yesterday morning when I visited but there were lots of visitors, all trying for the perfect photos. The trees really are spectacular; the majority are well-established mature trees but there seems to be a program of planting as I spotted a couple of areas with fair young trees. I’m so pleased that I was able to see them in full bloom, even if it wasn’t ideal conditions for photos.
Anne S — Google review
Recent visitors have captured the allure of the blossoms, noting that the walkways are a magnet for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike . The blossoms are expected to remain vibrant through early May, making this an ideal time to experience their fleeting beauty. The cherry blossom are fully blooms now. We love Cherry Blossom 🌸
Mhai P — Google review
Nice well kept park, the highlight is the cherry blossom trees, they took a week or 2 longer to blossom compared to the area I live in but once bloom stunning and beautiful.

Mother Shipton's Cave, located in Knaresborough along the River Nidd, is a historical site linked to the legendary 15th-century prophetess and fortune-teller, Mother Shipton. The cave is believed to be her birthplace and where she practiced herbalism and made predictions about future events. One of the main attractions at this ancient woodland site is the Petrifying Well, known for turning ordinary objects into stone.
Well it’s been many years since I last went and initially I found the price off putting. However; I just had the most amazing day and would highly recommend it to families. I got there early so was able to park inside the facility, but there is a big car park just across the road. I loved that the walk was atmospheric. It is quite a walk so heed the advice and wear comfortable shoes, also because the wishing well and cave area are quite damp and wet. There is quite a few steps, but the great thing is there are covered stroller parking spots! There is an amazing playground, where my kids would have had a blast. There is also a lovely cafe run by the wonderful Diana, a gift shop with Alex, and Peter at the gate was a fountain of information. They were setting up for a Halloween Event that I’m sad I can’t attend. £39 a car load of up to 5 people is extremely reasonable- definitely a day trip that all would enjoy. Skeletons and witches and spiders are all welcome. Absolutely a day to remember and an honour to learn more about Mother Shipton. What a sad story…. Oh, and Diana thanks for bringing a #SconeAsInGone lady. Those other two say it the wrong way!!
P_Addler — Google review
We visited Mother Shipton’s Cave as a family of four, three adults and one 10-year-old girl and it was such a magical experience! ✨ The whole place feels like stepping into a fairy tale. The woodland walk is peaceful and beautiful, surrounded by tall ancient trees, charming paths, and hidden surprises. My niece was absolutely enchanted by the wishing well and the old tree where visitors press coins into the bark for good luck. Throwing coins into the water felt like something out of a storybook. The wooden sculptures, fairy-tale cottages, and mystical atmosphere make this place truly special. It’s the perfect mix of nature, history, and imagination a wonderful day out for families, nature lovers, or anyone who still believes in a bit of magic. 🌿💫

Went for a birthday treat as visiting the area and as a couple with a dog. The place was busy but not overly and had a great family feel. We wish we could have taken our kiddies here when younger, they would have loved this. We enjoyed the Halloween experience and so good to have somewhere that is dog friendly. Loved the autumnal walk and pretty lights. The queue for the hot chocolate and drinks was large so would be nice to have two venues for refreshments but people bought their own as well so we could have planned to do this. Lovely outdoor walk with the dog and interesting site. Poor mother shipton and her 15 year old mum, what a life. When you think about it a poor bullied young woman who made the best of her tragic life and now we visit the cave she lived in. The sites not that deep though lol so it is child friendly in presentation, but as an adult visiting it's quite thoughtful. I love the history and that it's been visited for so many years. Worth a trip, and dog friendly. Thanks

Fantastic, really enjoyed the whole experience. There is audio so don't forget to press the button. Did not realise it was dog friendly also, except not allowed in the gift shop. There are lots of seating areas should you wish to bring a picnic. No problem getting parked as was quiet and we were only charged pedestrian charge. We went first week in September so I imagine it would be very busy when schools are off.

My son treated me to a fabulous time here today. All I can say is go!!! Its well worth it. The story of Mother Shipton is delivered with respect and compassion. I dont know how much the entry fee is as this was a gift . I had a delicious hot chocolate and a cheese and onion pasty halfway through the walk and was served by 2 lovely polite and friendly ladies. Later , I made my wish at the well. The gift shop is small but well stocked. All.in all a lovely place to visit. Give yourself about 3 hours.

A beautiful gem, the living history. The forest walk is amazing, throughout the whole year. The peak is Halloween: amazing programs, kind and helpful staff members. The waterfall and its stoney effects on artifacts is world unique phenomenon, lovely gift shop. Ideal for couples, families (with pram, elderly people or doggos). Parking lot is big enough: simply must visit, to make life memories.
Peter E — Google review
£40 for admission of a car. Had the fairies and hobbies huts set up. Looked fantastic. The actual waterfall and caves, were beautiful. I can understand people's negatives of it being small yes it is and it is a simple hole in a wall kond of cave, but its beautiful none the less. The gift shop was lovely and really decently priced too.

We’ve visited Mother Shipton’s Cave quite a few times now – first as a couple, and more recently as a family with our son. It’s easily one of our favourite places to visit together, and somehow we fall in love with it a little more every time we go. Autumn is by far our favourite season to visit – the colours, the crisp air, and the atmosphere perfectly capture everything we love about this time of year. There’s so much to see and do for both adults and children, and it always feels like stepping into a little pocket of magic.

Embark on the Free Walking Tour Harrogate and explore the major attractions of this historic town with an enthusiastic and entertaining guide named Harry. The 1 hour 20-minute tour offers plenty of time for questions and welcomes well-behaved dogs, as well as wheelchairs and pushchairs. Join Harry on Saturdays for a two-part tour covering historical sites and unique stories, where he shares his knowledge and takes a genuine interest in participants' experiences.
Did the tour today and it was brilliant. Harry is extremely knowledgeable of Harrogate and it was lovely to finish a weekend that I had been up for a hen do, with understanding more about this love town. Thanks Harry for taking us round!
Lucy S — Google review
I'm so glad I decided to join the tour. Harry was brilliant - engaging, informative and a real gentleman. It was a rainy day yet Harry's warmth shone through. I just wish I'd had the time to do the tour at the start of my trip, rather than the end, as Harry really sold some great places to visit in the town, with compelling reasons as to why. Do consider making a voluntary contribution at the end, as you'll see it's more than deserved 🌟

Harry is amazing. He told us lots of interesting facts about Harrogate and showed us all the sites. He had everybody engaged and even had a little dog bowl of water for Brownie xx

Absolutely fascinating walking tour around Harrogate town centre. We’ve been coming here for years but it was so interesting to learn more about the history of the town. Visited on a Sunday. Easy to find, well signposted, plenty of parking. The routes were easy to follow and there are wider routes available if you eish to go off piste a bit. Dogs allowed on a lead. The rocks themselves fascinating to look at and you can climb most if you wish. It was a bit busy for my liking but worth a visit.
Jude G — Google review
Great place to visit with kids to get them away from a computer/phone screen to enjoy nature, to play hide and seek amongst the rocks. I remember my parents taking me and my siblings to play and how much fun we had back in the day. Our most recent visit saw families doing exactly what we did, spending quality time together.
Elaine R — Google review
Brilliant place for an active day out. It goes without saying that it can be rather precarious when climbing so be sure to dress appropriately. Dog friendly, plenty of space for a picnic, a few on site food trucks and thats all you'll need. They do charge to use the onsite car park, but it was only a few Pounds for the whole day. You're also close to Ripon, which is a nice place to swing by afterwards or you can walk to the Rocks from there if you're able!
Adam S — Google review
What an awesome place. It’s massive with a maze of twisting paths and interesting rock structures, lovely heather and ancient oak trees. It’s a perfect place to bring kids for a runabout and picnic. The car park is national trust so be a member or expect to pay a lot to park. There’s an asphalt path through the rocks that makes it easy for wheelchairs and pushchairs to see the rocks. Enjoy!
Chris G — Google review
A lovely place for a chilled walk especially if you have kids. They can have a lot of fun climbing rocks with varying difficulty. Site is nicely set up with parking and have manned booths for information as well as I've cream stalls.

Well worth a visit. Especially for outdoor adventure. Lots of climbing, walking and fresh air. Little cafe, clean toilets and visitors centre with information. Plenty of parking and a really unusual sight with spectacular views.

Absolutely beautiful panoramic views of God own county. Fantastic place for the whole family to enjoy. Plenty of different rock formations for all levels of climbing from beginner to expert. Loads of little tunnels and caves to explore. Food and drinks are a bit expensive but plenty of places for a lovely picnic.

Ripley Castle, located in North Yorkshire near Harrogate, is a 700-year-old privately owned country Baronet's seat that offers tours of the house and grounds. The castle hosts various events, including the Christmas Fair featuring top companies selling festive decorations, food, gifts, and more. Visitors can explore centuries of military, political, religious, and social history at the castle. Additionally, nearby attractions such as Richmond Castle and Fountains Abbey provide further historical and natural wonders to explore.
What an amazing place to visit. The grounds and gardens are a must to see. The deer park is a sight within itself. It's such an enchanted and beautiful place that takes you back in history. I would recommend this attraction to visit if ever in Ripley, along with grabbing yourself a taste of the world's famous ice cream. There is free parking around and it's affordable to visit.
Mark S — Google review
A Glorious Day at Ripley Castle Lake – Sunshine, Stalls & Stepping Over Cow Pats! We spent a glorious Sunday at Ripley Castle Lake and it was exactly what we needed – fresh air, sunshine, and a good dose of Yorkshire charm. It was a beaming hot day, and we found parking easily in the main car park, just a short walk from the castle. Prices were surprisingly reasonable too, which is always a good start! The little village of Ripley is like something from a postcard, with a proper old-fashioned ice cream parlour (beware: the queue stretches longer than a cow’s memory) and a lovely pub with benches outside – perfect for sipping something cold while watching the world go by. The castle grounds were hosting Sunday market stalls, adding a nice touch of local flavour to the visit. It really is a sun trap – perfect for a lazy wander or just soaking it all in. The lake walk next to the castle was a highlight – peaceful, scenic, and ideal for stretching your legs. But fair warning: it’s open grazing land, so while the cows are friendly enough, their contributions to the path are less so. Think of it as a rustic obstacle course! The castle café was a lovely final stop – it has a charming walled garden area with picnic tables, where we cooled down with a drink and enjoyed a moment in the shade. All in all, it was a lovely few hours out. Beautiful surroundings, a relaxed atmosphere, and just enough cow pats to keep you on your toes. Highly recommend it if you fancy a peaceful day outdoors with a touch of historic charm!
Christian C — Google review
Had a lovely visit to the castle grounds today, young gentleman in the cafe was amazing and gave us great tips and advice on our visit, he was super friendly and highly respectful. Spent a few hours walking around the grounds then had a lovely coffee and scone in the cafe which was delicious and great value for money. Highly recommend a visit.
Lynne — Google review
Lovey place yo visit. Went on Sunday there was market. Lovely little cafe and sandwiches we got were delicious. Massive grounds to walk in with the cows and deer roaming free. Definitely recommend for nice relaxing day out.
Michelle H — Google review
Unfortunately it's closed and up for sale, however the village of Ripley is lovely! Had a great stay at the Boars Head. UPDATE: I Unfairly I gave a one star rating; I could have visited the gardens but it was the castle that I particularly wanted to see. My apologies to the owners who queried my one star rating.
Brian S — Google review
Lovely place to visit. We went on a Sunday so nothing was happening but it was still a pleasant stroll around the grounds. Parking charge was reasonable £1.80 for two hours. The cost of entry was OK as it goes towards the upkeep of the attraction.
Wes S — Google review
The castle is closed for the foreseeable future (up for sale). The gardens were closed due to high winds, which was NOT posted on the website beforehand, so we traveled to the Castle for nothing. Took a short walk to the "waterfall" which is just the outflow from the dam that created the lake on the castle ground.
John D — Google review
I had super fun time at Ripley Castle grounds. We visited the Castle for a team building activity and we really enjoyed the game competing to find the 12 Clues and answering the questions. Nothing is fun as competing with fully able-bodied while your team has an expecting woman. We had real fun and most of us left there already thinking about going back with friends or family. family. That shows the attractiveness of Ripley Castle grounds. The reason why I'm rating it 4 is because food nearby is very expensive, we ate a local Pub and it was so expensive such that I opted to water with my meal instead of a drink. The gentleman who assisted us with our games on 23/09/2025 was very helpful and fun. Much appreciation to him. We called our team the Slow Coach because we completed the challenge in 75 minutes! Overall- Ripley is worth visiting and even more enjoyable as a group.

Had a private 1hour taster session with Jude for me & my 15 year old son. The experience was very enjoyable. Jude provided great safety & technical advice & increased the ability level & challenge as we progressed in confidence & competency. He was very friendly & engaging. Would highly recommend the session. Great value.

Great session with Sam for my 2 kids. He was super-patient with them & took care of everything, even down to the playlist, to make sure the experience was a success. Kids already asking when they can go back :-) Thanks so much!

My son Tom has been climbing at Harrogate for over 3 years now and he is just about to complete Nicas Level 5. Over 3 years he has had the most wonderful instructors who have always looked after him, taught him incredibly well and done everything they can to make him a fantastic climber and passionate about the sport. I personally would like to thank Vicky, Emma and Henry who have just been the best. Katie Jarvis

My 7yo had her first climbing lesson yesterday - with Rich & James - and I can’t give more praise. They were fab with her, from start to finish, clearly explaining the process for the whole session and what could have been an intimidating experience, as it was new to us both, wasn’t at all, it was a really welcoming, supportive environment. She loved the class and progressed well with their guidance. Thanks again and we hope to be back soon!

I have no words to describe how great our experience was! Private sessions are ace! Individual approach, patience, attention to the details and all you need for anyone who has different abilities, experiences and even age group! Particularly I want to highlight a great expert in climbing center which is Henry) massive shout-out to your professionalism and skills! 1000000 percent we are coming back and 10000 times recommend this place to everyone ❤️ Thank you!

I was so impressed with our son first climb at the home education session. Henry the team leader was incredible with our son as well as being professional and friendly. Our son learnt new skills and his confidence just grew. The communication from the start was great too.

A fantastic centre with a wonderful team! My son has climbed here since he was 9 (he’s just turned 14) and I have nothing but praise for the centre and the staff. Everyone is supportive and helps him develop his skills through the NICAS program and he has now passed the assessment to be able to use the centre independently which is a huge achievement. Through the years every member of the team has celebrated his neurodiverse quirks and it is one of the few places he feels truly st home. I would recommend climbing to here to anyone of any age as they are wonderfully inclusive while at the same time being very strict on safety and working the young people hard to achieve their goals. We’ve done a couple of family sessions too which were equally good and fun for everyone :-) Please come and have a go!

We recently had a climbing lesson at the Harrogate Climbing Centre for our daughter’s 13th birthday. The instructor; Ayla was very knowledgeable and patient with the girls as they were led through a variety of climbing exercises and activities. The girls were able to conquer their demons and manage to accomplish things they didn’t think possible. I would highly recommend this facility and Ayla specifically as an instructor to anyone looking for a great place to have a birthday adventure. Thanks Live for Today Climbing Centre!

Children's party service
Little Bees Harrogate is a remarkable indoor playground that offers an exceptional experience for both children and adults. The staff members are incredibly accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable, going above and beyond to ensure everyone's needs are met. They engage with the children in an interactive manner, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere. The play areas are impeccably clean, especially the imaginative play section which provides ample entertainment options. It is evident that great care has been taken to maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.
Leanne was a brilliant host. She was really welcoming and addressed our daughter (whose party it was) from the start. She was energetic, enthusiastic and very efficient. We didn't have to worry about anything because she had everything in hand and communicated clearly to us what was going to happen when and why. Thank you.
Rebecca O — Google review
We recently visited Kidzplay Harrogate, and unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. The level of cleanliness was shocking – sticky surfaces, dirty plates and cups left piled up on tables and near the so-called ‘clean’ cutlery area. The toilets were just as bad, with a strong smell, wet floors, overflowing bins, and no soap in the dispensers – only alcohol foam, which is unacceptable for a children’s facility. The food was also subpar. The chips were lukewarm, and the vegetables were clearly overcooked and reheated in the microwave. Given the price, I would have expected much better quality. The place was severely understaffed, with only 3 employees trying to manage a full venue, two birthday parties, and all other booked tables. Two of the staff members were very young and inexperienced - polite, but completely overwhelmed. When we arrived, I mentioned our reservation, and the staff member just stared at me, looking completely lost. It’s such a shame because this is now the only soft play in Harrogate (excluding World of Their Own which on their own superior level by far) and it desperately needs investment. We’ve hosted two birthday parties here in the past 4 years, and each time, the standard has dropped. Unfortunately, this visit was the worst yet, and it left me feeling both sad and frustrated. To top it off, the entry price has now increased to £9.95 for over 2s, which feels completely unjustified given the poor experience.
Elfie A — Google review
Can’t believe how disgusting this place is. The toilets smelled so bad, there was excrement on the nappy bin 🤢 Why they charge extra to go into the village is beyond me, it’s shocking, literally just embarrassing, if I was the owner of this soft play I’d be so ashamed, first and last time we will be going!! This makes me appreciate the better soft plays that look after their places!
Adam B — Google review
Went to my Goddaughter’s birthday party here today and it was fantastic! Lucy took care of us all brilliantly and made sure each child had a fabulous time and all the adults too! The kids had a blast and there was plenty of food and drink and Lucy kept us all entertained with her fun approach. Would definitely recommend! We’ll be back next year! Brilliant value for money.
Sheena J — Google review
Thank you for a great party. The host was really friendly and engaging with the kids and sorted everything including cutting up the cake etc which meant I had nothing to do . Booking and communication has also been easy and stress free . The kids loved the laser guns! Thanks again
Jessica — Google review
This was my first time booking a party for my daughter, I couldn't thank the whole team enough for everything they did today. I was accommodated in everything possible, I had extra guests I was unaware were coming, attention to detail providing for the children, doing a birthday train to the role play. Every aspect of service I received was above and beyond and I can’t thank the whole team enough.
Jennifer K — Google review
Absolutely disgraceful softplay, probably the worst I’ve taken my child to, the food is overpriced especially for the amount you get and it’s not good quality, even have the cheek to have signs up regarding their food to only be consumed. The actual soft play and role play sections are sparse, the staff look like they are being held against their will with zero communication/people skills. I would not recommend it at all.
Christopher S — Google review
Just a really sub par soft play center. There’s been enough reviews on the cleanliness side of things so I won’t hark on about that but suffice to say it’s just a bit grim all round. The room that the soft play in is fairly large but it’s mostly just empty space/tables and chairs and there are absolutely no windows which makes it all feel a bit more grubby. The soft play itself is really limited and - frankly - shocking for £10 per kid. I’ve got a 3 year old and a 6 year old and usually they’ll just make the most of anything but both ran out of things to do really fast here and it proved to be an absolute waste of time and twenty quid!
