Swiss restaurant
Schlüsselzunft is a historic guildhall turned into an elegant dining room, known for its traditional ceramic stove and charming atmosphere. The restaurant offers Swiss-international cuisine with vegetarian, fish, and meat options complemented by interesting sides and sauces. Housed in the oldest guildhall in Basel, it caters to both casual diners and those seeking gourmet experiences. The menu features dishes like homemade ravioli stuffed with garlic and black angus filet steak with potato hash browns.
Lovely experience and ambiance. It's a must if you're in Basel. For me, this was the best thing in Basel. Lucianne (Lulu) was amazing. The food was exquisite. We will be back just to nosh.

Dined here two days in a row due to the wonderful quality of the food and the very warm and welcoming service. Both times, the food was of a very high standard and super tasty. The interior of the building is stunning and very inviting. Highly recommend!
Matthew D — Google review
Unfortunately it was covered in plastic and scaffolding. The food was OK. Although see other reviews not as good as other places I dined at. The food which came off the menu beforethe starter and afterthe dessert-the petit fours were delicious. The Venison chipolata | Caponata | Scamorza cheese | Bacon-Thyme foam soup was good. Duo of wild duck | Autumn polenta | Cowberries | Brussels sprouts | Chestnuts would have been good apart from the Chestnuts were too like marron glace too sweet if they had done just roasted Chestnuts it would have worked. They served wine from giant bottles which were too gimmickry for me. So if they didn't peer pressure you when you first came in to have a glass of red wine from the massive bottle I would have enjoyed it more.
Fran B — Google review
The food is incredible! Slowly served in the European fashion. There was NOT one bad bite and worse, my wife wouldn’t let me lick the plate. Services is European (letting you enjoy your food without bothering), but quick to help if you have questions. Top notch. From a dumb American, try it. You will not be disappointed! Wish I could give 10 stars

Food was just ok. They sat us at a small table at the top edge of the stairs. Nothing like a chance of death to liven up dinner. Forgot us because we were the only people upstairs. Forgot to bring my husband his beer. Overall just MEH…
Allison L — Google review
Great quality food! We ordered their set menu and they came with different degrees of flavor and strength. They have menu for vegetarians or pescetarians as well! I went there three times on special occasions especially with friends and families when they have their birthdays. The staff were very friendly and made sure to chat with us. Great Swiss hospitality indeed! 😍 😍 😍
J R — Google review
Wonderful dining experience in a historical setting, yet the restaurant didn't lose its touch on modernizing itself. From the manager to waiters/waitresses, everyone was courteous and kind. The main dishes here today are the white asparagus soup and beef fillet with potatoes. The meal ended with two pieces of sweets, which are not too sweet and on point!

Swiss restaurant
Restaurant Löwenzorn, also known as "lion's fury," is a popular dining spot in the historical area near Marktplatz in Basel. Despite its intimidating name, it offers traditional Swiss dishes in a charming rustic setting. The building has a rich history dating back to 1327 and was once owned by the Mitz family, former mayors of Basel. Today, it is an elegant restaurant with friendly multilingual staff and quick service.
It wasn't my first visit to this restaurant, but it was definitely memorable this time again, especially since I had a larger group of ten people with me. Half of them were from the other side of the globe, from Australia. This restaurant is one of the best in Basel, offering exceptional food, a special friendly atmosphere, and an ideal central location. Highly recommended for expats, tourists, and visitors!
Zsolt T — Google review
Great place to try good quality Swiss beef. The veal schnitzel was perfectly cooked and the accompanying vegetables were so flavourful and roasted to perfection. I'd be eating here every day of it was not so expensive 🫰
Ava ( — Google review
The service was very kind and even spoke English but sadly we can’t give it more than 3 stars as the value for money was not justified and food was forgettable. We had two types of sausages (white and standard) and the broccoli in vinaigrette. They could improved it with better pretzel and bread, and with some nice butter. The rosti could be done better too (potatoes more caramelised). We liked that they offered locally brewed beer though. Would go again if right occasion came
Jessica S — Google review
Restaurant Löwenzorn is such a popular local restaurant that it's always full !!! During summer they let customers sit outside at their courtyard, a very relaxing dining environment. Ordered one of their specials, Vitello Tonnato, which is cold roast beef served with tuna sauce, you know what, this is one of the perfect chemistry I've ever had in my mouth, with the decorations of capers in the mix of flavors, OMG, you have to order this dish !!! I will definitely look forward to come here again during winter to sit in the indoor dining area of this almost 600 years old historical landmark, a lovely traditional swiss wooden decorated place.
Bill L — Google review
A great option for a traditional Swiss restaurant. Had the veal sausage with onion sauce and rosti and it was very good. Notably there is a spacious outdoor patio in a courtyard - a relaxing place to visit in the summer to be sure.
J B — Google review
We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. I loved my steak tartare and the three others in our group enjoyed theirs as well. My husband had a burger and found it delicious.
Theresa H — Google review
Had lovely starter; fondue with a lovely Swiss meat and a Warm chocolate volcano with amaretto ice cream & blueberry-ragout. It was delicious
Fran B — Google review
If you're having fondue, do I highly suggest sitting in the courtyard when the weather is nice and cool. It's a great experience.

Restaurant
Zum Goldenen Fass, located in Kleinbasel, is a trendy and quality restaurant with an informal atmosphere. The focus here is on local ingredients and a regularly changing menu rather than traditional offerings. The restaurant offers top-quality organic food with options for vegetarians. The wine list is excellent, and the atmosphere is friendly and attentive. While the service can be hit or miss at times, the unique takes on classic dishes and new culinary adventures make it a worthwhile dining experience.
I can't recall how I came upon the restaurant while planning for our trip, but the "radically seasonal, hyper-local" was the reason for us to get a reservation. The experience surpassed our expectations. Flavors were all incredibly unique and fantastic across the board. Dishes that sounded simple (fish and chips; braised onions) were distinctive and tasty, and what could have been predictable dishes (braised beef; plum crumble) far exceeded expectations. All of this in a cozy atmosphere with attentive service. HIGHLY recommend!
Aaron S — Google review
Unpretentious but high quality. Great service with a friendly smile. The asparagus and strawberries entree was particularly special and our main dish - the beef roulade- was just perfect. The menu is a little pricy but the quality is very high. You won’t regret it!
Mecene D — Google review
We came here by chance and loved everything about this place. The food is of high quality, delicious and all locally sourced. Service was fast and efficient. Atmosphere is great. The icing on the cake: they serve food until late and there are superb vegan and vegetarian options.
Julie K — Google review
Simple dishes with fresh local ingredients—you can really taste the freshness.
Sarah M — Google review
Decent place to meet friends or colleagues after work for a beer. The food is quite simple, not too elaborate, but well prepared. We ordered the soup of the day as an appetizer. It was a simple pumpkin puree soup, pleasant but not outstanding in flavor. As a main course we chose the frikadellen and Fish and Chips. The meatballs were well balanced, served with vegetables and sauce. The fish and chips were in a well done crispy batter. The only thing was that they were over salted. The main courses we had to wait for an hour, which is a bit long but not critical. For dessert we got sorbet and coffee, they were ok too In general, nothing outstanding, just a nice place with good food. I'd say this place is quite expensive for the food you're getting, but for Basel it's okay
Marina - — Google review
Thoughtfully put-together menu of seasonal ingredients. Nice atmosphere, if a touch cramped (our table for two had our table almost touching the adjacent one).
Daniel R — Google review
Without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Basel. They use regional and seasonal products. Small but amazing menu.
Michael S — Google review
Absolutely fantastic. Atmosphere is friendly and attentive. Servers are helpful, funny, and have great suggestions. The food was delicious. Tasty takes on classics and new adventures, every mouthful was exquisite. Really enjoyed every minute. The real kicker is that all the food is local! But they mean it! So, no black pepper, no black tea, no lemons! They make do with everything else - we had a lemon tart, without lemons! But it tastes exactly like lemons! (Made from unripe grapes!) Definitely go, and be amazed at what they can do! I'll be going back :) PS - for the caffeine lovers, don't worry.. They have exactly one exception to the local rule... Coffee beans!

Nestled in the heart of Basel, Brasserie Zum Braunen Mutz is a charming eatery that exudes an inviting ambiance with its timeless wood-paneled dining room. This delightful spot specializes in hearty traditional local and German dishes, making it a must-visit for food enthusiasts. Fondue lovers will be thrilled to discover that this restaurant offers an impressive selection of eight different types of cheese fondue, including unique variations like truffle and champagne.
Wonderful traditional Swiss restaurant. My calf liver with Rösti was excellent as was the Mövenpick ice cream to finish the meal. I also enjoyed my Riesling-Silvaner from Baselland. Friendly service.

Wanted to try Authentic Swiss dish and found Zum Braunen Mutz recommended by the hotel where I was staying in Basel. Took the chance and was rewarded Location, ambience , food, Beer, was all well worth it. The hostess was very nice. (Sorry, missed asking her name). We sat outside as inside was busy. Had a good experience and I hope to come again. I took the Buurebratwurst Rosti The Rosti was juicy yet crisp. The sausage was great too. My wife who is a vegetarian also appreciated her Forster Rosti.
Roc S — Google review
This place was recommended to us by our hotel. We wanted something more authentic to Switzerland and it was too hot for fondue. Found out Cordon Blue is a Swiss dish and it was very good. We split this dish with garden salad and it hit. The Cordon Blue was perfectly cooked with cheese just oozing out of it. Of course the beer was a nice and paired well. I gave a mark down for service because it was not clear how to get seated and to close out our tab. We were in the entry way waiting for someone to greet us and were ignored by several servers. The same thing happened after we finished our meal. Everyone was friendly and attentive until it came to getting the final bill and paying. Would recommend and go back.
Jeff D — Google review
I have ordered a pork cordon Bleu that costed CHF30,50 and it was a good size portion and nice flavour. I asked for the option with mushroom which was not worthy nor tastefully. It has an outdoor seating area and a large indoor area with multiple tables. Algo good for a beer or even wine which they have a nice selection
RC — Google review
The restaurant's authentic atmosphere is impressive, with very delicious food offering a true culinary experience. The service is superb, friendly, and professional, perfectly complementing the offerings. The selection of fine beers wonderfully completes the experience.
András J — Google review
I had a local beef stew with egg dumplings, it wasn't expensive like everything in Switzerland but original and tasty. Beer industry in Basel need a lot of work to catch up with rest of the world but Urli was nice. People are very friendly and you can always meet Barry Window with one of many amazing stories or advices. Highly recommend, definitely place to visit in Basel.

Walliser Kanne is a renowned Swiss restaurant located in Basel, offering a classic and elegant setting with an outdoor terrace. It is celebrated for its traditional Swiss cuisine, including a wide variety of Valais specialties and gourmet classics. One of its iconic features is the preparation of Wiener schnitzel at the table using the original recipe. The restaurant also offers three different types of fondue: moite-moite, porcini mushroom, and champagne.
This restaurant is a super authentic spot, where the traditional atmosphere immediately captivates you. The service is excellent, with friendly and attentive staff meeting every need. The high-quality wines and the very delicious fondue create a perfect combination for an unforgettable gastronomic experience.
András J — Google review
In the bustling walking streets of old town Basel there’s a dizzying array of dining options. We chose this for its traditional Swiss cuisine. We had the schnitzel with pork instead of veal with noodles and the perch with boiled potatoes. The side salad was extra. Add a beer and the total was easily over a 100 CHF. Our server was friendly with a gentleman’s sense of humor. This is a good place for outdoor dining and people watching. Food is good.
Maria M — Google review
The food was lovely and delicious. Dinging a star for them not serving tap water. (Feels like an unnecessary money grab.) The venison was perfect for a chilly, rainy fall day. A very generous portion of everything, and beautiful plating.
Frances R — Google review
Best schnitzel in town! 👏🏻👏🏻 cheese fondue is delicious too! Had a really great time with friends here, will be back if have another opportunity ❤️
Arthain — Google review
We wanted to experience Swiss fondue. We were not disappointed. Had the original Wiener schnitzel and cheese fondue (ordered just for 2 people even as a party of 4 - it was plenty of food). The waiter picked the wine, Swiss of course, and it was awesome, as was the waiter!! Chocolates come with your check. They have bar seating (great for just stopping to have a drink) and offer outdoor dining.
Vicki M — Google review
Amazing food and excellent service. For dinner we had fondue, raclette and steak. Everything was delicious! Special thanks to Jelena, her great service made our night very special!
CLAUDIA B — Google review
I was recommended to visit this restaurant for traditional Swiss cuisine by a few locals. My friend and I came here for lunch. The place is located in the heart of Basel, right on one of the main promenades, so it was quite busy that day, mostly with tourists. The restaurant has a big indoor area, plus outdoor seating. We decided to sit inside to enjoy its classic Swiss design and cozy vibe. You can sense the historic charm in the atmosphere, but everything inside was still well maintained and spotlessly clean. Our waiter was very nice and helpful – he gave us tips about Swiss food and recommended a couple of dishes from the menu. The menu,by the way, wasn’t very big, and it focused on traditional Swiss classics. We decided to share two dishes: Wienerschnitzel and Cheese Fondue (Käsefondue). The food came out quickly, within about 15 minutes. The pork schnitzel was flavorful and tender, with a perfectly enjoyable texture. We chose French fries as the side, and they were cooked really well. But the star of our lunch was definitely the Cheese Fondue – absolutely delicious! The cheese they used was incredibly rich and flavorful, and the fresh bread served with it was also tasty. Dipping the bread into the melted cheese made it a truly delightful experience. Both dishes were generous in size and more than enough for two people. The only negative about this restaurant is the prices, which are extremely high. The Cheese Fondue cost 38 CHF (about $48) PER PERSON, and the Wienerschnitzel was 40 CHF (about $50). Even though the food was excellent, I found these prices far too steep. The soft drinks we ordered were also expensive – 6 CHF ($8) for a cup of black tea or a Diet Coke. I’m from Miami, where restaurants are pricey too, but not this expensive, so even I was shocked when we got the final bill. Finalizing my review, I can say that I loved every part of my experience at the restaurant except the prices. It’s definitely not a place I could afford to eat at every day (like I do in many restaurants in Miami, since I don’t cook), but I still recommend checking this restaurant at least once for the experience – to try truly delicious Swiss food. Trust me and order the Cheese Fondue for sure!
Alberto M — Google review
Terrible cheese fondue — don’t waste your money I’m writing with great disappointment. The cheese fondue we ordered was the worst we’ve ever had — after only two forkfuls we had to stop. I can’t imagine a restaurant serving a dish like that, and their defense when we complained was even worse. And what’s even worse? They charged us the full price without any hesitation… I’ve included the bill below for reference. Think carefully before you go.

Nestled in the heart of Basel's Old Town, Gifthüttli is a cozy and rustic restaurant known for its hefty local dishes and a wide selection of beer and wine. Despite its name, which references an early 20th-century promotion about off-brewery beer being poisonous, this charming spot offers a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The restaurant has been in operation for hundreds of years and has a proud history. The dining room has lots of character and the patio has umbrellas and is large and spacious. Menu is multi-lingual. My order included 2 draft beers from their extensive beer menu, a side of spatzi potatoes (a rather large order and a dish made of dark bread soaked in white wine and baked with lots of cheese (kind of a grilled cheese sandwich). Everything was tasty and sufficient for 2 people. The bill was SF49.80.
Rupert A — Google review
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The schnitzel tasted simply delicious. I also tried the apple ring dessert, and it was so good I finished it in seconds. Even the coffee stood out; it was so rich and flavorful, I felt like I’d been transported to Italy for a moment. The atmosphere is another highlight. I really appreciated the old rustic charm, which made for a peaceful and cozy Sunday lunch. It wasn’t crowded when I visited, but I’d recommend reserving a table just in case—larger groups do come here, and it might be harder to find a spot sometimes. The staff were friendly and welcoming. After my meal, I stayed at my table for a while to relax, and the waiters were kind enough not to rush me or make me feel like I had to leave. If I could suggest one improvement, it would be to add some sauerkraut, bratwurst, and knödel to the menu. I know it’s not part of the local cuisine, but it would’ve been a great addition and something I’d personally love to eat. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be coming back!
Andrii B — Google review
Went there for a family dinner. Dinner was nice. They also have 1 vegan option which was also pretty okay. I don’t understand why they don’t have a vegan cordonbleu made from fake meat but a vegetarian option is always better than non. But for this price I would have expected a bit more. The others had meat options which was apparently really delicious but once again to pay +30 chf WITHOUT a side is a more than expensive. Now to the drinks: we paid more fore 1l of still water than for a glass of wine which is just NOT understandable. I understand that this restaurant is rather pricey also considering the quality of the food. But to charge 10.50.- for still water is just Kriminal at this point. Ambiente was okay, very rustical and traditional kitchen. Experience was okay, wouldn’t go a second time tho. So if you want a very overpriced meal in the best cordonbleu- restaurant in Basel, go for it and tick it off you bucket list.
Leela E — Google review
An excellent little restaurant with some very creative takes on Cordon Bleu! Great service, great food. It is pricey (like most restaurants in Switzerland!) and it's smoking friendly which might be an issue for non-smokers. At the end of the day, I did enjoy my visit.

Stopped in for a late lunch. Great place. Traditional atmosphere. My husband and I shared a classic Veal cordon blue, au gratin potatoes and a french onion soup. It was perfect. Single portion is plenty for two. My husband said it was the best French onion soup he has ever had (he does order it everywhere we go). Extensive wine list, they also have cocktails and beer on tap. Servers were prompt and so nice!

Gasthof zum Goldenen Sternen, Basel's oldest inn, is situated on the banks of the Rhine and boasts a stunning late-gothic facade and opulent baroque interiors. For a unique dining experience, consider renting the restaurant's fisherman's hut, a charming stilted boathouse right on the water where you can cook your own fish fondue-style. The restaurant also offers a beautiful summer courtyard terrace with views of the Rhine for an unforgettable dining experience.

Restaurant Safran Zunft Basel is a Swiss fine dining establishment located in a historical guild house with tall arched ceilings and murals. Dating back to the 14th century, it was originally the guild restaurant of spice traders, and today it continues to uphold local traditions while offering modern cuisine and friendly service. The restaurant's interior reflects its rich heritage, yet the atmosphere is far from old-fashioned. Alexandre Kaden has successfully transformed this historic venue into a fresh, contemporary dining experience.
The Swiss Delight 4 course menu was fantastic! It showed sold out on the reservation site, but we called and no problem getting in. Flavors we all phenomenal. We opted for our own wine pairings since we wanted to avoid sweet wines and the wines by the glass were all pretty decent.

Delicious menu and lovely traditional ambiance. Friendly and attentive service

Absolutely amazing!! One of the best restaurants in Basel. Traditional food, excellent taste, professional service, kind and friendly staff, good price. Totally recommended :)

We visited the restaurant for dinner on a visit to Basel. It was a great venue with old charm. The tables were well spaced despite being a busy evening. We were greeted warmly and the waitresses were very attentive. The food was delicious and served with style. I would recommend the egg / asparagus starter and the veal. The wine list was extensive and included both Swiss wine and international wine. Well worth a try!

The food is delicious and, it’s just such a cozy place, peaceful .

My wife and I had dinner here during a 2 day stay in Basel and it was 10/10. The building is historic and very neat, the service was friendly and fast and we even had a nice chat with the owner. Most importantly the food was excellent- highly recommend the fondue bacchus.

Came here for the annual white asparagus dinner. We got the asparagus in late April, but the sides options were a bit disappointing. Also the service could have been more proactive (could have sold more dishes and drinks to us)
Pekka S — Google review
an nice old classical building but noisy even if it wasn’t full. The food was ok, but in this level of prices I would expect much more. Service was great and took care of everything.

Restaurant Bel Etage (im Teufelhof) is a renowned fine-dining establishment in Basel, Switzerland. Chef Michael Baader leads the culinary team, offering a blend of Swiss and international ingredients in seasonal dishes. The restaurant features four rooms within the historic Teufelhof hotel, adorned with modern art, and a charming terrace for al fresco dining. Guests can indulge in tasting menus paired with carefully selected wines or explore the versatile à-la-carte options.
The aesthetically pleasing décor of this one-starred Michelin restaurant, housed in a historic building alongside several other restaurants, truly lives up to its name. Bel Etage exudes a unique and inviting ambiance, characterized by its tiled floors, wooden doors, and art adorning the walls. The welcoming staff and attentive service further enhance the dining experience. Despite its concise menu, Bel Etage offers intriguing culinary options. During our recent visit, we had the privilege of being among the first to sample their new seasonal menu. The Mushroom Ravioli with leek and the veal were particularly exceptional, showcasing the restaurant's culinary expertise and creativity. Overall, Bel Etage is a culinary gem that should not be missed when visiting Basel.

Was here for the last official dinner of the year for our working group. The restaurant has a traditional and elegant feel to it, with wooden flooring. We had a 3 course dinner consisting of salad, main course and dessert plate. The main course was the veal escalope with pepper sauce, tagliolini and zucchini. The veal was soft, juicy and delicious. The dessert plate plate was good and refreshing. But italians might find the tagliolini a tad overcooked and soft. Overall, an enjoyable experience. Very good for fine dining

Visited the restaurant back in November (menu has changed since then). Warm and quaint interior. The service was delightful, both waitresses were very eager and helpful. The dishes were tasty, although a bit simplistic, and thus I’m ambivalent about the michelin star. However it is a fine restaurant by swiss standards and the value for money is unbeatable.

In the restaurant pretending to be "Michelin" they add white wine to the glass even though it's not empty yet. The kitchen is good but the waiters are not well trained.

Service was really good. They catered for my fructose intolerance right down to the smallest detail and gave me different options without reservation. The food was very tasty especially the tuna tartate. Highly recommend

Restaurant Café Papiermühle is a charming spot for a leisurely meal or coffee, set against the backdrop of the paper mill's waterwheel. Whether you choose to dine in the medieval house or the streamside courtyard, you can enjoy daily specials like salads, quiches, soups, and pasta dishes from their hand-scrawled chalkboard menu. The restaurant also offers a variety of homemade cakes and snacks. Additionally, it is known for its high-quality food and friendly service.
Delicious food and refreshing home-made lemonades. The server was very nice and spoke English well. (Helpful for us English-speaking tourists).

Got the tarte flambee with bacon and onion and the bhudda bowl with tandoori chicken. The bhudda bowl is a variety of items in the salad but not really worth it for the price of 25 CHF. Not enough chicken The tarte flambee on the other hand was thin and delightful. Perfect for sharing. Nice atmosphere and good for a lunch meal before going to the paper mill musuem next door

Popped in during a thunderstorm to get out of the rain and enjoyed a Cappuccino and a slice of carrot cake. Loved the pub like atmosphere and service was great for the amount of people coming in at one time so close to closing.

I had a fantastic time at this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious — every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The location is perfect, right near the Rhine, and the terrace is especially lovely in the summer. It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy the view. The service was also top-notch — our waitress was extremely friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. On top of all that, the prices are very fair for the quality and setting. Highly recommended!

Exceptional Service for a Large Birthday Brunch!I recently celebrated my birthday with over 15 friends at the Papiermühle Café Sunday brunch, and the experience was absolutely outstanding! The service was genuinely supportive, friendly, and incredibly warm from the moment we arrived. They went above and beyond, allowing me to come in early to decorate our table with balloons and seamlessly handling the organization of my own birthday cake. The open buffet brunch was delicious, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food and the time together. A major highlight is their attention to dietary needs: two of my friends are gluten-free, and they were thrilled to find excellent lactose-free and gluten-free options available, meaning no one had to miss out.At 33 CHF including one drink, the Sunday brunch is fantastic value. I always enjoy coming here, and I highly recommend Papiermühle Café, especially if you are planning a celebration or need to accommodate a large group!

I love this restaurant! They have fantastic service and fantastic food! It’s a great place to grab brunch with friends outside. They make all of their baked goods themselves and they are DELICIOUS. This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem of Basel.

Restaurant Schützenhaus is a charming establishment that beautifully marries French culinary influences with Swiss dining traditions. Nestled within a historic building adorned with traditional wooden ceilings, the restaurant boasts an elegant and spacious interior, perfect for both intimate dinners and larger celebrations. Guests have praised the impeccable organization of events held here, highlighting the attentive service provided by staff like Frau Haner, who ensures every detail is catered to with care.
Beautiful interior, wonderful food, excellent service. The organisation was impeccable—we had our wedding celebration here. Child-friendly as well. All of our emails or phone calls were answered quickly, as well as from our MC’s. Frau Häner was very friendly and competent. She paid attention to every little detail and catered to our wishes. We highly recommend this fine establishment for your small or great culinary experience. No wonder it’s been around for 100+ years:) Enjoy!

Great service and the outdoor space is very nice and pleasant. Traditional Basel restaurant, we had schnitzel and it came quite dry and a little bit burnt. Considering quality of food and price, we will not come back.

Traditional. High price. Okay food. And very Swiss = does not taste bad but never tasty. Also very Swiss = a bit of racism in service. Basically, all the credits go for the tradition of the location and the place; not especially for the food and service. With the same money, I could find better food with better service.

Restaurant Zem alte Schluuch is a charming and welcoming spot in Basel, perfect for both locals and tourists. The venue offers a cozy atmosphere with great music, making it an ideal place to enjoy a glass of wine or beer. The food is delicious and affordable, with highlights such as the fondue and crispy sausages. The staff are exceptional, providing friendly service and catering to guests' needs.
Absolutely great and atmospheric place where locals are bustling. Local visitors shifted their table to ours, as there were 5 of us and we kind of didn't fit they probably thought. Later another old man showed us how to eat fondue 🫕 and was watching from time to time if we were ok.

Nice place to have a glass of wine or a beer! We had a nice fondue 🫕 and the only thing was no option for veggies or potatoes. Service was great! We had a lovely waitress that spoke many languages making us feel like home! We will come back for another glass 🥂

We visited a truly charming and well-kept restaurant, with a warm and relaxing atmosphere We enjoyed a delicious fondue—creamy. we also tried chicken and veal sausages, both perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of taste. The beer was also delicious. The service was friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. Prices were fair for the quality and the area. A girl above all was very nice and spoke 5 different languages. She was really nice. A place we wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking for a high-quality dinner in an elegant setting and characteristic Swiss

Absolutely loved it. If you want to feel like a local and have great food paired with a beer while having friendly conversations with the regulars, this is the place. It was like walking into an episode of Cheers where everybody knew their name. The service was wonderful and welcoming. I highly recommend!

One of the most wonderful fondues I had, being a real fan of cheese dishes this place was such a nice discovery! I also really enjoyed the service - it was super friendly and quick!

It’s a local and genuine Basel place, full of tradition and credulity! The owner, Nicoleta, is the most welcoming host ever and the service from the staff is superb! 👌 you may chose crazily expensive restaurant with questionable food quality or come here and enjoy home-like cuisine, good wine and waitress-mood-dependent cocktail suggestion —> absolutely fabulous! I’ll defo come back here whenever I visit Basel!
Mateusz S — Google review
We visited this restaurant for the first time and had traditional Swiss cheese fondue – it was absolutely delicious! What made the experience even more special was our server, Mimi. She was incredibly kind, warm, and spoke excellent English. Mimi took the time to tell us so much about Basel and made us feel truly welcome. It’s rare to meet someone with such a positive and genuine energy. Thank you, Mimi, for making our evening so memorable!
