Cape Chignecto Provincial Park, situated in Advocate Harbour, Nova Scotia, is a stunning coastal park known for its old-growth forest, hiking trails, and sea cliffs. The park offers eight hiking trails, including one leading to the iconic Three Sisters sea stacks. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking cliff-top ocean views and explore wild Acadian Forests. The complete loop spans over 50km and features steep rugged trails and stairs on the highest mainland Nova Scotia cliffs.
Did a 4 day, 3 night backpacking trip here, WOW! What an incredible place full of lush mossy forest, wonderful rocky beaches, and beautiful cliffy viewpoints. Highly recommend if you're into backpacking and in the area. The trails were tough, but very doable by my partner and I who are experienced backpackers. We camped in seal cove and refugee cove, which I can both highly recommend also. Great sunsets from seal cove and wonderful beach at refugee cove. If you're into walking, scenery, and quiet this is the place for you!

Such a gorgeous hike, though be warned there are some fun hills!

We knew Cape Chignecto was not a ‘walk in the park’. Being seniors with a dog, backwoods camping and trails rated ‘difficult’ are beyond us, but we drove over from our 5 islands pp to say we’d been there. To our delight, we walked on the main path to a beach, which was on our right. A beautiful beach where we could walk, paddle, and enjoy rock structures. A very helpful staff member in the visitor centre told us about the trails at Eatonville day use area, which was accessed from a different location. It took about 45 minutes to drive there over rough roads. We have a Ford 150 and are used to off roading to find great sights, so the track there was exciting and better than we are used to. I’m not sure if I’d want to drive a low to the ground front- wheel drive car, but the parking lot DID have a variety of vehicles when we arrived. The road was VERY well signed, considering how rough it was. At the trailhead, we had a choice between a short trail to the 3 sisters’ rock formation of a longer trail. It was very hot, and we had another destination planned for later, so we took the shorter walk. I’ve included the map and description of the 3 sisters trail. There were look outs with fantastic scenery. Very photogenic and historic. There were also considerately placed pit toilets that were very clean and well stocked. The trail was very well posted and groomed. It was such a pleasant surprise being able to really enjoy Cape Chignecto this much.

Excellent park, great staff & nice variety of trails.

This is a great hike! Outstanding amount of scenery for a trail of this length. The trail has a few distinct sections: KM 1 - 18 from red rocks to the end of the cape is a mix of pretty easy forest trail and a few (3 main ones) big climbs, roughly 150-200 m each climb. The climbs are not technically difficult, but pretty steep grade. Views are limited on this section compared to the next part, but refugee cove has a nice beach and is a good camp spot. If you start by going to refugee cove day 1, you will get two good climbs in; one at km 3, and one at Mill Brook. But it gets easier after the climb out of Mill Brook.. KM 18-33 - the best views are found here on the western coast of the trail. Impressive cliffs and tons of views. The trail here is a bit more technically difficult (roots/some water/a few steep areas) and doesn't have many "cruisy" sections. KM 33-36 - moderate terrain into eatonville KM 37 - 48 - the 11 km woods stretch says on the map it takes 6.5 hours... but it took about 2.5 hrs and had some easy stretches. Mostly forest, a nice creek at times. You can cut some off the trail by taking the beach from red rocks pretty well any time that isn't within an hour of high tide. Recommended. My total moving time per my GPS was 13 hrs, 40 min; this was at a consistent pace. It can definitely take much longer, or for some (like the runner I saw on the trail..) shorter. Not sure if I got lucky, but hardly any bugs in June was a nice surprise. I wore non-waterproof shoes and that was the right call for me. Some wet stuff but easy walk arounds so no soakers on this one! Really hard to get lost on this one. Possible I guess, but good signage and clear trail.
Jim R — Google review
My friend and I hiked about 30km. I surprised myself as I am just getting into hiking more and more. Was it challenging? Yes, but not as bad as I was expecting. I loved that we were able to start at the beach, but we had to go through the woods when we were finishing as the tide was high. That put an extra 3km onto our hike. It was very well marked, and the path is not as "rooted" as what I thought it would be. We will be going back before the end of August. We just spent the day there, but you can camp and there is a cabin, I think about 10k into the hike.
Pam P — Google review
Cape Chignecto is one of Nova scotia's best kept secrets. A wonderful backpacking trail that will challenge even the most seasoned hiker with steep elevation changes and at times challenging terrain. The campsites are overall very well maintained if a bit sparse. The full loop can be done by a fit aggressive hiker in 3 days and more comfortably in four depending on how long you hike for and how much time you like to spend in camp. Your hard effort will be rewarded with stunning ocean views, wonderful ecosystems, and two beautiful beaches at refugee and seal Cove. Please practice backpacking etiquette pack out all of your garbage and leave the trail in a better condition than you found it in order to protect this gem of an experience.
Patrick H — Google review
Great hike! The trail and campsites are well kept. It was muddy during our time, but there had been a few downpours. Would definitely recommend checking it out.

The Bluff Wilderness Hiking Trail, located in Timberlea, offers a unique inland hiking experience that contrasts beautifully with coastal trails. Spanning 32 kilometers, this trail meanders alongside Cranberry Lake and Pot Lake, showcasing stunning views of the lush forest and rolling hills. Hikers can choose to tackle the entire route over several days or break it into manageable sections for a day trip.
Such a beautiful hike. I did the longest possible loop, and it was amazing. However it all pretty much looks the same, just as stunning, so even if you were to do a shorter loop I'm sure you'd see more than enough beauty.

On August 3rd, 2025, I hiked 14.1 km along The Bluff Wilderness Hiking Trail, completing the full Yellow Trail loop. It was an incredible experience, easy to navigate yet packed with adventure, from rock jumping to crossing the bluffs. I’d highly recommend this trail to anyone looking for a fun and exciting outdoor escape. I’d definitely go back, and next time I might take on the Blue Trail!
DAVID — Google review
Me and my pup really enjoy this trail. Has lots of different trails to explore. The scenery is beautiful any time of year here!

Love this trail has a variety of terrain to go through to keep it challenging and interesting. Make sure you are prepared for a long day of you are doing the whole trail.

How could I miss such a lovely place which is located in the heart of Halifax Municipality,. It's definitely a must visit place for people interested in large scenic hikes. The trail is attached on the way to the BLT trail. It's on St. Margaret's Bay Road. There is a parking lot on the way to Bluff Wilderness trail. I can't think of a trail with a broadwalk in Halifax. Also, there is a small beach ⛱️ and a picnic bench at the start of the trail. If you wish to see the scenic views of the river, you have to walk the other loop of trail, which is not clearly marked and can get confusing. Watch for some snakes. But yes, it's an absolutely fantastic and great place to spend half a day.
Cyrus A — Google review
Very scenic trail 🤩 A paradise for hikers. There are 4 different hiking trails to your capacity - *Pot lake loop *Indian hill loop *The bluff loop *Hay Marsh loop The actual trail starts 1km from the parking spots. There are hardly any markings on the trails so better to carry photo of a map with you. It loops around different lakes. Very Scenic. Many ups and downs, moderate level trails.
Ravikant A — Google review
Awesome trail, ended up doing 15km loop, definitely a more challenging hike, the first 5km seemed to be all hills and up hill/rock climbing. Beautiful views up high, and water views down low. One of my favorite hikes to do so far. It is very easy to get lost off the trail when climbing the rocks, really have to follow and look for the colored tags when you’re hiking. I wouldn’t recommend if you’re brand new to hiking and to stick to the easiest trail (yellow) and to bring lots of water on the warm days.
Bri — Google review
This is an extremely popular hiking trail with okay views and a few official camping sites that are first-come, first-served. There are different loops with different lengths of trail. Growing up with this trail in my backyard, I’ve seen it change from a beautiful secret spot to a heavily trafficked and beaten-down area. Please, if you’re hiking here, stay on the trail, pick up your garbage, and clean your boots off before entering. (There’s a boot station at the trailhead.) If you don’t stay on the trail, someday it’ll be as wide as a road and that sucks for people looking for wilderness, and for the wilderness itself. Enjoy its beauty with respect and you’ll love this trail.

Skyline Trail is a renowned loop trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, offering breathtaking ocean views and stunning lookout points. It's considered the best hike on Cape Breton Island, known for its dramatic cliffs and abundant wildlife. The trail is famous for providing an unforgettable sunset experience and is perfect for visitors of all ages, including young children.
Amazing trail with pure raw nature! Stay hydrated and take it easy! Recommend good hiking shoes and outfit! Take bug spray for evenings. Totally worth the walk! Expect 3 hours of hike total start to return!
Lalith C — Google review
Went on the short loop around 5:30pm on a gloomy windy day and able to catch a slice of sunset at far end eventually. Lots of ppl even on a bad weather day, so be mindful if you see the trail is closed sign at the gate due to capacity. Highly recommend for a short easy hike with spectacular view at the end.
Jude T — Google review
The Skyline Trail is a beautiful and easy hike with a straightforward path leading to a stunning lookout point. It took us about 2 hours round-trip, including plenty of time for photos along the way. It’s definitely a popular and touristy spot, so expect to see a lot of people. The trail and parking lot fill up quickly, and once the lot is full, they won’t let anyone else in—so it’s best to go early to avoid a long wait. Still, it’s absolutely worth it for the views!
Sonia D — Google review
Absolutely wonderful trail. The last lookout was crazy 300 plus steps- but gorgeous- watch out for the Wind!!!
Valerie D — Google review
We had a wonderful morning on the Skyline Trail! It began in the forest and then opened up to breathtaking ocean views. We went early to beat the crowds, which made the experience even more enjoyable. There were benches at the lookout and plenty of fantastic photo spots. We made sure to stay on the boardwalk near the edge since the area was fragile and could get windy. Overall, it was a fantastic hike!
Hardikkumar P — Google review
My wife and I did the skyline trail loop yesterday. We went around 4 o’clock in the afternoon and it was very quiet maybe passing a group of people every 15 minutes or so. The loop is very nice hike through the trees and it’s on a great pathway. Once you come out of the trees and start to see the cliffs and the water it is breathtaking. Hiked many mountains and seeing something like this was completely different and my point. There are quite a few stairs to climb once you get down to the bottom, but there is a lot of platforms that you can stop and rest at. This hike is a moderate hike and I can see it difficult for people who don’t do a lot of hiking. From the parking lot it is around 9 km for the loop. Great experience.
Tyler H — Google review
It's an absolutely beautiful and well maintained trail! It takes about 45 minutes at a moderate pace to get from the parking lot to the sunset viewpoint. There’s plenty of benches and space to sit once you get there, and the Park administration encourage sitting or standing on the boardwalk only to help protect the site and nature. It gets chilly around the sunset so bringing a jacket along, would surely be a good idea. We stayed for the sunset, and while the view was gorgeous, what really blew me away was the drive back towards Cheticamp, the sky was absolutely breathtaking. If I was ever to do this again, I would probably be done with the trail before sunset and then enjoy the sunset while driving back, when you can see the sky, ocean and the hills all come together! Also there's one porta-potty along the trail, and the washroom situation at the parking area is not so great! And would highly recommend carrying mosquito spray.
A P — Google review
The trail is nice for people who aren’t great on foot. The lookout is beautiful, but nothing too special — you could get a similar view just from down the road without walking that far. It took us about two hours in total. We went early in the morning for sunrise, so we were the first ones there and had the whole trail to ourselves! On our way back, though, there were already tons of people. If you’re an adventurous person, I’d recommend choosing a different trail that’s less crowded. This one is more for tourists. Don’t feel like you’re missing out if you skip it — there are many more beautiful trails and things to see on Cape Breton. But if you do go, try to start before 10 AM or after 3 PM to avoid the crowds. And if you want to see the sunset, keep in mind that you’ll have to walk back in the dark.

Kejimkujik National Park Seaside is a stunning destination in Nova Scotia, offering diverse experiences for nature lovers. The park features both inland and coastal sections, providing a range of landscapes to explore. Visitors can embark on hikes such as the Port Joli Head loop, which showcases bog, forest, and ocean views. Inland trails like the Mill Falls Trail and Hemlocks and Hardwoods Trail offer shaded walks and opportunities to see some of Nova Scotia's oldest trees.
What a wonderful, easy walk to stunning views and a gorgeous beach. We packed a lunch, ate on the rocks and watched the birds snd seals at play. It was a lovely day in mid September to enjoy the natural beauty. If you are in the area, don't miss out. All ages and families, pets on a leash can enjoy this beautiful walk and shoreline.
Lynn C — Google review
This may be one of my favorite hidden gems in all of NS! A beautiful national park with great hiking and white sandy beaches. There are facilities to use. Bring proper footwear and clothing, sunscreen, and tick/bug spray and enjoy this natural and gorgeous site.
Geoffrey B — Google review
Embarking on a long-distance walk from inland to the ocean shore can be a rejuvenating experience. Spending time in the wilderness is essential for our physical and mental well-being. This park is known for its unique properties and imperfections. As a nature enthusiast, I prefer this park because it's quiet and not crowded. The tranquillity of this place is truly remarkable, and the white sand maintains its powdery texture as it touches your feet. This is the best National Park for recreational activities, whether you prefer inland or seaside adventures.
Cherry N — Google review
From the highway you drive along a gravel road to the parking lot of the national park. The National Park at Seaside does not charge an entrance or parking fee. There is also no ranger. Once there, there is an information board with a brochure and warning signs about the animals. One walks through a path to the beach. To the right and left of the path is brush. After a little less than 20 minutes you are on the beach. In front of the beach there is a viewing platform with a view of the beach. The paths are well paved. Unfortunately, we did not walk the whole circuit, because we had a light mosquito plague. We have found bear tracks along the way. Had the mosquitoes not been so many we would have definitely spent more time there and also we would have walked the whole path.
Marei B — Google review
This is an outstanding natural reserve. The beautifulness of this place is unbelievable. For the first mile or so you will walk across a nice, wind brushed area of bushes before the view opens up to a stunning Atlantic ocean. Best is to take the hike to the Harbour Rocks Trail (5km return) which will likely also reward you with seal sightings. Make sure you continue beyond the lookout point with the two red Muskoka chairs onto the white beach which makes this hike perfect. Be aware that facilities are limited to a dump toilet close to the beach and apparently black bear encounters are rather common.
Alexander P — Google review
This park is sensational. We've been here on the hard trail (9km) which wasn't hard at all. During this time we spotted a black bear in a distance, deer 2 meters away, many birds, a small snake, black cormorants, seals and absolutely spectacular view of the seaside. This hike is on the top of hikes I have taken in my whole life.
Krzysztof K — Google review
This was a Highlight of NS . It's out of the way and be sure to bring water and good shoes.. this hike is worth it. Great groomed trails to some of the most majestic scenery in NS south coast. We saw seals and many snakes. Beware the 🐻 . The Beach is fantastic. Lots of parking and washroom is available.
Stick P — Google review
This is a beautiful hike and Catherine River is one of the nicest beaches on the south shore. The coastline views are increíble and the hiking trail is an easy hike for all capabilities. The mosquitoes really took it to us so make sure you bring big spray. Lots of wildlife so make sure you bring binoculars if you have them. There’s an outhouse halfway through the loop but not much else so make sure you bring water, food etc. Park was pretty dirty but only at the actual garbage cans.

Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park, located in Sambro Creek about 17 miles south of Halifax, is a hidden gem boasting three separate white-sand beaches nestled in coves along the Atlantic Ocean. The park offers picturesque hiking trails like the popular Pennant Point trail, which is perfect for bird-watching and wildlife viewing. With its clear waters and soft sands, this coastal park provides a peaceful sanctuary away from the city. Visitors can explore the 5.
A pretty huge beach with a long hiking trail right behind the sand. 2nd beach is my favorite as it is less busy. Great spot for beach camping too! Not far from the city. Not many mosquitoes like other beaches. Water is pretty cold year around there, recommended for Cold Water Exposure/dipping.
Beshoy Z — Google review
The admission to this provincial park is free and it offers picturesque hiking trails along the ocean and a sandy beach by the ocean. The washrooms are clean and well-maintained; can be lineups at times. Parking can get tricky at times, depending on the time of your arrival. We enjoyed swimming in the ocean, hiking and sat on the rocks and enjoyed the breathtaking view of the ocean.
Alaleh F — Google review
Great beach, with amazing wide sand and plenty of area to sit, tan, and swim. There are two major parking lots, and access is free. It'll take you a few minutes to get down from the parking lots to your preferred area. There's some areas that are better covered from wind (by rocks or shrubs). There's sections that are boardwalks that take you further in the park.
Mat B — Google review
Nestled along a picturesque coastline, this beach offers an ideal retreat for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. The expansive sandy shore provides ample space for relaxation and recreation, complemented by convenient and plentiful free parking—a rare find in many coastal destinations. What sets this beach apart is its adventurous track that winds along the ocean and through lush forests, offering breathtaking views and encounters with natural rock formations. The trail is a perfect blend of tranquility and excitement, ideal for leisurely strolls or more vigorous hikes. The atmosphere here is remarkably serene and quiet, making it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Whether you’re lounging on the beach, exploring the trails, or simply taking in the scenic vistas, this destination promises a rejuvenating experience amidst nature’s beauty.

We had beautiful weather. The water was beautiful. Picturesque. Temperature was good too. Small waves of about 1-2 feet. Light undertow. Definitely recommend

One of my favourite beaches around the Halifax area. It is beautiful, has a good bibe, and is fun to spend the day. Good parking lot, and has toilets, it is ok, but at least there is where to go. I will come back this summer

This is a sand beach with stones on one side and sand on the other. There is a long area along the sea shore that you can walk to. The views are so picturesque. All wallpaper stuff. Had such an amazing time just sitting there and listening to the sound of the waves. Very clean and peaceful place.

Cape Split Trailhead is a popular spot for hikers, offering a 16-kilometer trail with stunning views of the Bay of Fundy and the Spires rock formations. The area is being transformed into a Provincial Park, providing ample parking for visitors. Hikers can choose between the moderate Cape Split trail or the more challenging Amethyst Cove trail, which features steep climbs and rope assistance.
My fiancé and I have done this hike 5 or 6 six times by now. Although we do this hike seasonally, we still find it to be a moderate to hard difficulty. Our best time for finishing the hike is 3 hours and 45 min. But we have stayed on the trail for up to 6 hours on a nice summer's day. We've visited when it was foggy, and we've visited when it was so windy at the cape you couldn't hear each other speak (that was our most recent time). The trail can be muddy, and very slippery after the rain (I twisted my ankle on the most recent trip), so keep that in mind. Our advise? Bring snacks, water, and comfortable, appropriate shoes. There's a few spots where you'll have to cross over a small stream - so waterproof shoes/boots are a good idea. Give yourself anywhere between 4-6 hours to finish the hike, we'd recommend to start early in the day (the trail can get very busy). Plan to spend some time at the Cape - it can be a lovely spot for a picnic. But don't litter! There's only garbage bins at the start/end of the trail in the parking lot - so pack it up and pack it out. Check the weather/wind before you go, and remember it can change in the blink of an eye. The loop has two sides one is 6k and the other is 7.3k from the Cape to the parking lot. We'd recommend the 6k side.

Even though it was foggy and we missed the iconic view at the top, the hike itself was fantastic! Well-marked trails, beautiful forest scenery, and a steady, enjoyable challenge throughout. Definitely worth it—even without the view. Can’t wait to come back on a clear day! We spent 5 hours all together including taking time to take pictures and laying down (10-20 mins) at the cape split lookoff. Washrooms are available at the start point. They were clean.

Fantastic spot to view the Bay of Fundy. The full loop is about 15km in total and I recommend starting from Minas Basin side and finishing down through Scot Bays. Along the trail, you will see a wide variety of plants, and the trees form a beautiful canopy that provides a plenty of shade. While the trail isn’t very steep, the distance can be challenging for beginners. Make sure to bring enough water for the hike.

What an awesome trail with a big treat at the end. To be honest the trail itself is easy but it's a long hike. Running shoes are fine. It's not particularly interesting and there is only one exciting lookout at Lobster Cove. HOWEVER, when you get to the end, it will be one of the most unique and thrilling spots you will find yourself in. You are elevated above the water and there are so many places and different angles to see the rock pillars. You can't really see down the cliff face because it is so steep and the edge is not clear, so quite dangerous. Take a picnic or some snacks at least and definitely a drink. Lots of spots to soak it all in. We did the clockwise loop and we are glad we did, although not too much difference between the two out and back trails.
Cory S — Google review
This is a beautiful place! But the trail was very difficult because it was very long. We walked all 15 km, spending 5 hours on it. I do not recommend taking children with you. Everyone who took children could not walk the entire route.
Maria K — Google review
It's a bit of a challenging hike, fairly steep in places. You can hike, bike or run the trail. There are some look offs on the loop around the trail. Spectacular view at the top of the Bay of Fundy
Kirk G — Google review
Nice trail to hike. It wasn't too difficult. We did the out and back route. Beautiful scenery. Next time we will try for a low tide view.
Kay ( — Google review
Lovely trail not far from the Annapolis Valley. Trail had a few small hills near the beginning but for the most part was gentle, flat, and wide enough to walk 2-abreast. There are 2 trial options if you want to walk back a different trail. Scots Bay Trail is a little longer and Minas Basin Trail is a little shorter. The trailhead sign advertises the 6+ km hike (one way) as about 2h10 but we did it in about 1h20 going in and 1h10 back walking at a good pace. If you take your time and spend a few minutes at each of the mini look offs along the way it’ll be closer to the posted time. Parking lot has plenty of spaces but it does fill up as the day goes on. There’s 2 outhouses at the beginning of the trail and then 2 more around the 2km mark, then nothing else so plan accordingly.

Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site is a vast 164.5 square mile area in Nova Scotia, rich in Mi'kmaw heritage. It offers a variety of activities such as canoeing, hiking, and camping with its abundant lakes, rivers, and trails. The park is the only inland national park in the Maritimes and is known for its beautiful campground on the lake with modern facilities.
Best place to camp in Nova Scotia! Great sites, privacy good, clean comfort stations and trails. Security and noise levels are respected. And the park on the whole is a great escape!

Beautiful national park. Vast and full of natural wonder. Both sections are nice, seaside and the woodlands section. A great place for background camping and canooing. Lots of isolated campsites for those looking for peace and quite in nature. A must visit for nature lovers and paddling enthusiasts.
Joey V — Google review
Beautiful park but we found the campground with mostly tents very crowded and noisy. The facilities are quite new and there are dish washing sinks, which was much appreciated. We cycled through the park roads and on some easy trails. The RV sites appeared to have more privacy with larger lots and electrical hookups.
Steve G — Google review
The visitors center was very informative. The trails were well equipped with infor.ative boards, signs, and maps. There were very less crowds making for a calm and quiet place. We did 3 easy to moderate trails. The Mill Falls Trail, the Beach Grove trail, and the Flowing Waters Trail. All 3 trails were along the river. The staff in the park were very courteous.

Stayed two nights ...its a beautiful park and very quiet while we were there. Enjoyed a few of the parks beautiful trails. Farm lands trail was wonderful and the huge White Pines amazing. The Mill falls us defiantly worth a look. The only improvements I would like to have seen are: - better maintenance of unpaved roads some pot holes were huge and made for a rough ride in places. - signage in this park is the worst I have seen in any national park I have visited.

Outstanding park for the whole family. We explored beaches, scenic lookouts, beautifully maintained hikes, most of them easy and appropriate for everyone, great food at the Lakeview cafe, kayaking and canoeing, and every single park employee we talked to was super friendly and eager to help make our visit the best. Don’t miss this jewel of western Nova Scotia. Oh! And big bonus: there are picnic tables throughout the park so bring a picnic!!

Nice park mainly a forest and a lake...main interest is about Mi'kmaq which I really appreciated... no special views on trails.. cafe was open with great choice of food! were supposed to camp 3 nights left after 2 noisy nights and no staff goes around...I've never had such a bad experience in a Canada park campground.... Distance is also to take under consideration you're at least 1h30 from any main towns

Beautiful national park. Remote as far as Nova Scotia goes but worth drive. We took advantage of a nice weekend in November. No one really around. All facilities were closed but we expected that. So lovely to see pristine wilderness and no litter. We will come back!!

The Louisbourg Lighthouse Trail is a picturesque 2-kilometer loop that offers stunning views of the harbor and the Fortress of Louisbourg. Along the trail, there are interpretive panels providing insights into local history, as well as information about the area's flora and fauna. The trail features charming wooden walkways and comfortable benches, making it a pleasant stroll for visitors. Additionally, during October, there are opportunities for natural foraging with an abundance of cranberries in the area.
Beautifully designed new trail along a stunning coastline. Great work by the Coastal Connections Trail Association! Worth the trip!

The restoration of this landmark trail has begun after Hurricane Fiona devastated the area 2 years ago. The first stretch of the trail has been moved inland and widened into a smooth pressed gravel walking path suitable to people of all abilities. It is at times heartbreaking to see the devastation Fiona caused along the shoreline and to the forest. Bits of the original path are visible and signage has not yet been restored. The loop portion has not been addressed and while it is accessible, it is not recommended to walk it as it is missing vital pieces that have washed away. The second part of the trail is a rough hiking trail which has only been restored to the first lookout. After the lookout, the trail is barred by fallen trees and has not been restored. I look forward to seeing the progression of the restoration of this trail as it encorporates Fiona as part of its history.

Clearly suffered a lot of storm damage along the trail. But beautiful. Parks Canada has been hard at work fixing the trail. Widening. It’s in excellent condition. Super easy trail.

My favorite trails to go down when visiting Sydney on Cape Breton. Very easy walk, with the ability to walk closer to rocky cliffs by the sea. Such beauty on this trail. So peaceful as it's not very touristy. A definite must see.

Rugged and beautiful scenery. If you catch it post storm, you will see some amazing swells crashing. One of my favorites!

Love the place. It is gorgeous on any picture shooting here. Dark blue sea with strongly white waves continuously crashing on the rocky shore. Lighthouse looks lonely but stunning, especially in evening sunlight. The wood walk-broads are really cute and benches along the trails are really useful and comfortable. That is not mentioned that there are lots of cranberry red-riping around the lighthouse's standing area in October is interesting for someone love natural foraging activity.

Porters Peak is the ultimate adventure getaway, nestled in the serene surroundings of Porters Lake, just a short 40-minute drive from Halifax. Spanning over 250 acres of picturesque rolling hills, this destination offers an array of thrilling activities and two distinct accommodation options: Safari Tents and Cozy Cabins. Here, you can escape the hustle and bustle of daily life while immersing yourself in nature's beauty.
A Truly Magical Chalet Experience! We recently stayed at Porters Peak Stargazing Chalet, nestled in the heart of nature, and we can honestly say it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, we were welcome by the breath taking view of the highest peak of the place, surrounded by breathtaking views—towering trees, rolling hills, and the crisp forest air. The chalet itself was cozy and perfectly equipped, offering everything we needed for a relaxing family getaway. The interior has a cabin like feel, with a modern twist. Large windows let in plenty of natural light, allowing us to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors from the comfort of a warm and inviting space. The upper part of the chalet is a queen size bed with a net bed on the front. The kids really enjoyed the net bed. The location was ideal for those who love nature. There was also a cozy outdoor fire pit, perfect for roasting marshmallows and sharing stories after a day of adventure. All in all, it was the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. If you're looking for a peaceful getaway with an outdoor feels, highly recommend staying at Porters Peak. Can't wait to return!

We were impressed with how clean our accommodation was. However we feel we missed out on the full experience. The website advertises free paddle board/kayak rentals. But it seems like people were hoarding them at their campsites? The rack was completely empty. It took us quite a while to find in the first place. A map of the lake really should be provided in the other laminated materials left on the table. It's not like you have service to Google the walking trails on their website. We stayed in the *Stargazer* chalet but the telescope was broken. The check in email also states there's no electricity- but solar packs are provided to charge your devices. Those were not anywhere to be found. Additionally- the description says "private porta potty" but ours was shared with the chalet next door. Not a huge deal. But this should be edited on the website. Overall we still had a nice quiet evening indoors but we wished we could have explored more.

We spent 2 nights at Porters Peak and had a lovely experience. As expected, the ‘driveway’ is long, twisty and has a few hills, but not an issue at all for most vehicles. We were fine in our truck without needing to use 4-wheel drive. We stayed in the ‘Eager Beaver’ cabin. It was the perfect location with a nice view of the lake (although it is more of a pond) and a very short walk down to the dock and games area. The cabin was clean and cozy, with access to a BBQ and propane burners for cooking. Our stay was peaceful and quiet, and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. It would be a perfect location for an off-grid weekend getaway from the city.

Nice to unwind from technology. Downside from this visit is that we had no lighter or fire starter to start our fire, we had to go and ask another camper to borrow there's. Also found someone's medicine in drawer. Luckily I found it and not my child. Makes me wonder if the cabin is being cleaned after guest leave. Lock on door makes me feel uneasy as I can't tell if the door was locked once I settled in for the night. Overall the location was beautiful and cabin was nice. Hopefully next time I will have a better time.
Lisa L — Google review
The location and setting are stunning- for the most part everything is perfect- however there are a few things that I wish were more clear upon booking. 1) the description of the cottage made it seem like there would be a shower in cabin- there is even a shower with a facet that didn’t work. Had to buy a towel and drive to city for a shower. 2) the lighting in the cabin is dim- wish there was more in backyard and throughout cabin. 3) the one mobile lantern you have doesn’t work- it turns on but doesn’t stay on. 4) plug outside does not work- was going to move the lamp outside to provide light. 5) also dishes- we didn’t have a chance to wash or re use because no hot water- and the soap provided was not appropriate for cold water. How do we know the dishes were actually clean clean? It would be nice for future bookings to have made it more clear on amenities. Looking at previous reviews, this seems to be a common theme. Would love to come back- however clearer descriptions of what’s available would be nice.

We just got back from our second visit to Porter’s Peak and we have had a great time on both visits! The accommodations are nice and comfortable and the complimentary paddle boards were a hit as always. At night, we enjoyed the sounds of the frogs and other wildlife on the lake. Our only regret was that we were unable to have a campfire this time due to the fire ban. If you want a great time away with your family, significant other or just want to do a mini digital detox away from the stresses of life, this is an accessible and affordable option. We will absolutely be back again! Highly recommended!

I have been calling, emailing and sending contact requests via their website for days. I've left multiple voice messages and have called from two different numbers. It seems I may now be blocked as every time I call it goes directly to voicemail without ringing. I booked a stay on September 30th to October 1st at Birch Hollow. According to their website, this Cabin includes a dry flush toilet inside. This was the reason I booked this cabin, not to get into details but I have a chronic disease which can result in requiring the bathroom at an abrupt, immediate moment. When I arrived to the cabin, there was no toilet. There was a bathroom, a shelf with toilet paper, "pee powder", hand sanitizer and garbage bin. EVEN the brackets for where the dry flush toilet would clip in, but yet it was not there. After driving from 2.5 hours away, arriving in the dark at 8:30pm, we quickly gathered our things back up and left to find other accommodations at 8:45pm as I could not stay there with no toilet. After days of trying to contact Porters Peak and getting no where but having my calls forwarded to voicemail and now seemingly blocked, I had no choice but to file a dispute with my credit card company, supplying them with all the proof. I've now got my money back thanks to my bank but am severely upset and disappointed with this company. Save your money, stay somewhere else. Anywhere else.

I was very excited about my stay here, desperately needed a break but I unfortunately ended up leaving even more exausted because of the propane heater being empty. We were dressed appropriately with extra blankets but it was still very rough and uncomfortable night. With all of the indoor and outdoor lights not working it also kind of put a damper on the night. Cabin was dusty, hand prints all over the windows, and plenty of dog hair on the stairs.

Fishing Cove Backcountry Campground is a remote and scenic camping spot located in the Cape Breton Highlands. It offers 8 wilderness sites beside the cove, accessible via a 12km trail through the park. To camp here, visitors must obtain a backcountry permit from either the Cheticamp or Ingonish Visitor Centre. The campground sits at the base of MacKenzie Mountain and provides stunning views, especially in the morning as fog descends from the mountains.
Absolutely beautiful spot to camp, me and two close buddies hiked this trail over the course of two days, (down one day up the following morning) the trail itself is beautiful and the view at the actual campground is also absolutely stunning especially in the morning as the fog rolls down the mountains. its something to behold this trail should be hiked be relatively experienced hikers with proper equipment. bring hiking boots (not shoes) as the trail can get muddy and bring ample hydration. if you have this covered you will have a good time. keep in mind km 4 to 5 is the roughest of the bunch and ascending trail will be more arduous than descending. definitely will be hiking this again 10/10

Tough black diamond trail. 6km hike into the back country campground starts at approximately 350m and falls to sea level. The back country sites have raised wooden platforms for pitching your tent. Sunsets are incredible in the cove. The hard work of the hike reaps dividends with incredible scenery. Oh did I mention the 6km hike out goes up 350m. The rise is mostly at the end of the hike and consists of a series of soul-crushing switchbacks.

Nature & Parks
Cape Breton Highlands National Park is a vast park known for its stunning mountain and ocean views, particularly along the famous Cabot Trail. The park offers various activities and sightseeing opportunities, including the chance to enjoy a lobster feast at La Bloc beach while taking in picturesque vistas of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Driving through the park on the Cabot Trail is considered one of the world's top road trips, offering panoramic views between Cheticamp and Pleasant Bay.
This national park will remain in my memory for a long time. The ocean views, mountains, and forest landscapes here are simply unforgettable. I visited in the summer and booked a cabin—staying and camping here was definitely a wise choice. The scenery is captivating enough to enjoy for two to three days without feeling bored. The most efficient way to explore is by driving along the NS-30, which is also called Cabot Trail, stopping at spots you find interesting to take in the views. If your campsite is on the west side of the park, the town of Cheticamp has all the facilities you might need, including car washes, gas stations, and laundry services.

So much to do in this park. It's just beautiful. Definitely give yourself a few days to travel around if you have the time, if not go back a few times if you are able to actually enjoy everything the park has to offer. There are many many hiking and walking trails, at all different levels of difficulty. So there is something for everyone. The Skyline trail was one of the most beautiful views that takes a little time to walk to. There are many different fresh water and salt water beaches. Lots of wildlife, so be mindful on the road. I've seen far too many cars just speeding through. One of my favorite national parks in Nova Scotia. Enjoy and leave nothing but foot prints and take nothing but pictures 😊

We did the Cabot trail through this park and it was the most AMAZING experience! I'd do it again and again if it wasn't so long! Definitely give yourself a couple days ( or more) to REALLY enjoy the trail (if that's what you're doing). The road through the park is hilly and the mountain views as well as ocean views are stunning. Hopefully you don't visit on a foggy day like we did! Enjoy

Very beautiful park, it is a must when you visit Nova Scotia. The roads are well maintained and the scenery is gorgeous. Don’t just drive through the park though, explore the trails like the skyline trail and don’t hesitate to also go to meat cove, which is very underrated as a destination I believe!

Such an amazing park! The hiking trails are gorgeous and you can find hikes for all levels of experience. The Coastal Trail is stunning with its views of the cliffs and ocean. There is wildlife to consider so it's best to hike in the daytime which also helps with the mosquitos. Much of the park and Cape Breton Island is a dark sky paradise for anyone who would like to see the stars and Milky Way.

I visited here last summer, based on my friend’s advice, and I have to say I will advise all of you guys to come. This is an extremely beautiful place, especially in summer time. Imagine the rocky coast along the ocean, high mountains stand in water, curve highway run in between valleys, all of them can be found right here.

Nestled along the stunning South Shore of Nova Scotia, The Ovens Park is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. With 75 camping sites—ranging from woodland retreats to open ocean views—this park offers an idyllic setting for a memorable getaway. One of its standout features is the breathtaking Ovens sea caves, where visitors can embark on self-guided walking tours along scenic trails that showcase the dramatic cliffs and coastal beauty.
The park is amazing. For the very small $12 entrance fee, you get to have an amazing walk to some of the most stunning views in all of nova scotia! I went nonverbal & collected rocks the entire day, it was amazing! I forgot we had a map, but we checked out every single area anyway. Do not miss the blowhole or the caves, you will be sorry! We paid the day entrance fee, we did not stay here. To the haters complaining about the lack of challenging hike... It has to be accessible to people of all levels. It's a tourist attraction, for tourists! There are a lot of senior citizens using poles & walkers to get around. Be mindful of them, you'll be one someday.

The views were amazing and the cabins were a decent price, even if it was a little run down. The floor was soft in spots and you could feel it bow with when stepping on it. Also found the general store was way over priced. $3.00 for a chocolate bar, $4 for a half a bag of ice. Overall it was a pleasant experience, but if we visited again, we would look for other accommodations.

Go to sleep to the sound of waves and have coffee with an amazing view of the ocean. It can't be beat. The sea cave trail is a fun, easy hike with photo opportunity after photo opportunity. Live music in the restaurant in the evenings. Cozy, rustic cottages. My husband and I are very grateful to have had the opportunity to visit this beautiful place.
Kelly C — Google review
The location of this campsite overlooking the ocean was fantastic. We were really tired and needed a place to stay so paid the $102.35 fee to stay there. We were even charged extra because we had our dog with us. We didn’t go see the caves (ovens) because they expected you to pay more fees for that as well. For the steep fee we expected more in the way of amenities. The buildings were run down and in poor repair. The floor around the only working toilet (for 75 campsites) was rotten and the toilet was barely bolted on. The showers were also in need of serious update and had no water pressure whatsoever. Out of the 35 campsites we stayed at in the last 35 days, this was the most expensive and in the poorest repair.
Lori C — Google review
Really loved our visit to the Ovens. Came on a great day when the water was a bit wild from an off shore storm going past, and it made for some really beautiful waves. We did hit just prior to low tide so by the time we neared the end of our hike the water had calmed significantly. I think I will plan next time to come when the tide is mid to high. Definitely worth seeing.

Such a wonderful experience. Beautiful place - well maintained. The trail and the caves are awesome and worth the trip. Only issue we had in our group was the pool. It's beautiful and deep and clean but it is open for very limited hours (12-5) so with our young kids and contending with weather, it became this big glaring thing they were constantly asking when they could use. We ended up having to plan our days around pool hours and then ended up staying long after check out just so they could finally enjoy it in the sun.

We spent 2 weeks in Nova Scotia, and this was our fourth and final stop. And it was my absolute favorite! The campsites have such incredible views (we were in #504), and it was lovely watching sailboats and seals in the water while eating dinner. The caves are amazing, and exploring the rocky shore on the opposite side of the park was amazing. My daughter and I spent a couple hours jumping off little cliffs into the crystal clear water. Also, I had one of the top five meals of my life at their little restaurant while sitting on the deck with my dog and family. Can’t say enough good things about this place!

Nestled at the northern tip of Cape Breton Island, Meat Cove Campground offers 30 unserviced campsites with stunning views of jagged cliffs and soaring eagles. The campground provides picnic tables, fire pits, grills, hot showers, flush toilets, and access to fresh drinking water. Additionally, there are four wilderness cabins available for rent. Situated on a grassy bluff overlooking the ocean, this remote camping spot is perfect for those seeking solitude and breathtaking vistas.
From my 10 year old daughter: Meat Cove campground is the best campground ever! It has a beautiful view of the tree covered mountains cascading in to the never ending Atlantic Ocean. The gorgeous sunrise will leave you breathless and if it’s your lucky day you might catch some whales jumping in to the morning waves. Rhonda and Patti (hosts) are super cool, nice and amazing! They’re the best! The beach is a great place to take a nap, relax and enjoy your day. Here is what other kids guests think: « Great, Awesome, nice! I loves swimming in the Atlantic Ocean with my brother. Plus there’s a beautiful view a the top of Meat Cove mountain. » - Capri « I loved the sunrise and the cabins are beautiful. » - Coast « I loved looking at the beautiful mountain view, the ocean is very refreshing and the host’s are very nice and funny. » - Lucy So if your looking for a tranquil spot with a beautiful view and to have awesome memories. Come to Meat Cove camping!!! - Alice

A bit of a drive. Roads aren’t perfect but fine for any kind of vehicle pretty much. Beautiful view around corners and many twists and turns. A bit busy in the summer. But stunning, breathtaking vistas. Good to know what we have here in Canada to see. I felt like is was in Ireland. Or even Norway with some of the views. Well worth the time to go out there and check this out. Bring your camera!!! No restaurants or bathroom facilities that I could see. There is a campground at the end of the end of the road. Pretty epic views there! I wouldn’t take a big rig in there. Truck campers. Vans. Class B or C rigs shouldn’t have too much trouble.

One of the Most Spectacular Places We’ve Ever Stayed Meat Cove Campground is truly something special. The views are absolutely breathtaking—cliffs, crashing waves, endless stars at night, and the rare ability to watch both sunrise and sunset from the same spot. It’s the kind of place that makes you stop and just take it all in. The facilities are clean and well-kept, and the staff? Total legends. Down-to-earth, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. If anyone complains about this place, they’re legit crazy. From scenic trails and the river to the on-site food truck serving next-level lobster rolls, this spot checks every box. Even the road in was in great shape. Absolutely a must-stop. You’ll never forget it.

The view from our campsite was truly exceptional, and the hosts were very friendly and welcoming. The sites are a bit close together, but it’s understandable as it allows more visitors to enjoy this beautiful location. The only downside was the men’s washroom, which had a noticeable odor of old urine, and the overall cleanliness of the washrooms and showers could be improved. There were old cobwebs and dust on the wooden surfaces and in the corners. My suggestion would be to seal the concrete floors and regularly sweep the walls and corners to help prevent dust and cobwebs from building up. For the price being charged for a single tent site ($46) I expected a level tent pad and clean washroom. There was no tent pad and no discounted price for the fire ban. We'd suggest checking in as close to the available time as possible, so you can set up, and relax enjoying the beautiful views.

So beautiful!! Worth the drive up - take your time on the way up. We had to back down the hill into our camping spot which was tricky with a 21' trailer so wouldn't suggest large trailers go here. It actually wasn't as windy as I expected being at the very peak and hardy no bugs! The sunset was beautiful if you go up the short hike to the peak. Sunrise right from the trailer was stunning!!! They have a food truck that had the best lobster and crab sandwich!! The guy who works at the campground was very kind and helped us when we were having issues with the propane on our trailer, he even lent us a propane cylinder for the night. Above average campground experience!
Dana P — Google review
This camping is just amazing. The views are incredible, the beach is easy to access and refreshing. Kayaking is possible from the beach. You can’t miss the crab & lobster rolls at the Food Truck. They are worth the trip. Road is not bad at all and most of it is asphalted. Did it easily with a class C RV.
Jean-Francois D — Google review
Truly spectacular site, totally lived up to the hype. Friendly staff, flush toilets, showers, a great beach. Rugged coast and stunning views - from our tent we saw starry sky and shooting stars, whales cresting, seals, moon rise, sun rise.... hands down one of the highlights of our trip. Only thing to note is that it's (totally understandable) a busy campground - sites are fairly close together, lots of people around, and for tent campers the ground in most sites is a little bumpy/slanted. Pro Tip: check their Facebook for daily updates on site availability.

Amazing place, the road was not bad at all some washboarding. Views are amazing and the lobster roll was a 10!!! The rock structures on the beach are so creative and we saw whales!! Nova Scotia does not disappoint.

Lawrencetown Beach Provincial Park is a popular destination in Nova Scotia, known for its surfing, boardwalks, and walking trails. Located just east of Dartmouth, it offers a beautiful setting for relaxation and beach activities. The beach is famous for its excellent surf, making it one of the best spots not only in Nova Scotia but also in North America. Visitors can bring their own boards or sign up for surf lessons on-site to ride the waves.
Very nice beach! Clearly popular with the surfing crowd, but my toddler had a blast playing in the sand and rocks.

What a gorgeous beach with plenty of surfers! Beautiful sandy beach enjoyable water with plenty of free parking with clean restrooms. Definitely a go to spot on your trip to Halifax. Dog friendly beach and they will thank you for taking them.

Nice place. The waves are big and it's fun to explore and find things near the rocks. At the time we went it wasn't too full. Parking fairly limited but it's a double sided knife because it limits the number of potential visitors, which means it ends up being less packed.
Tony B — Google review
Beautiful beach. The water was clear and the waves was great for the surfers. There is a little boardwalk to the beach but once you get off there's about 20 feet of rocks before you hit the sand. The water was colllld.

What a great escape from the stresses of life! The beach is always clean, has ample parking, not too busy and lifts the soul and spirits:). My true happy place!!!

My wife and myself are traveling from Ontario.. all of Prince Edward Island and into Nova Scotia... Lawrence Town Beach was on my list and I could hardly wait and I finally hit it today... Beautiful waves and water was kind of warm as at least I can manage... My wife had a blast just standing in and around the right spot when the waves would hit her and not too far out that would knock her down but she did learn her lesson 3 times 😁 I have many many videos that I recorded with my cell phone for the memories that will last forever because I'm not sure if we would ever get back to this location again. If you are traveling across the maritimes and you get close to Halifax, this is only maybe a short drive from the big city and well worth it
Chris — Google review
It's a very long, very rocky and quite cold beach. I don't know when it's possible to have a warm period here, but when the sun is warm, the air is quiet hot and there's almost no wind a little deeper, on this beach there's a strong wind and the water is 15 degrees Celsius. It's probably a good place for surfers and those who like cold water, but I didn't really like it here. This place has a normal parking line, small area with changing rooms, showers, toilets and surf gear rentals near the beach.

The Blomidon Provincial Park and Campground is a great place to camp in Nova Scotia, with many interconnected hiking trails. There are also open wooded campsites.
Some really nice sites along the edge of the cliff overlooking the ocean. Beautiful atmosphere with many benches positioned by the water. There are a bit of steep stairs if you want to get to the beach but you can also see the shore just fine from the railing up top. The town is 15 minutes away, and you only find the necessary. Is better to bring all your things. Always a fun time here getting away from the city.

Had a wonderful weekend camping here with my boyfriend. The campgrounds were clean and the facilities were also well maintained. Park staff were available around the park which was good for asking about the fire ban since there is next to no service. There is a park with swings, a slide, and some climbing stuff which looked fun for the kids! We used the swings once they were all gone. The trails were nice as well and accessible right from the campgrounds. Just beware of ticks as we saw a few outside our tent! We will for sure be coming here again!

Blomidon is a great little park. Great sites with options for power, unserviced. Treed and open. Fantastic views at day use area and great trail system. Nice and nice. Not suitable for large rigs as it's an extremely steep grade road with tight switchbacks. The Cape Split is great trail Highly recommend a stop and ice cream at the Look-Off We had a great few days.

Caribou/Munroes Island Provincial Park is a picturesque destination along the coastline, featuring a mile-long sandy beach that offers warm saltwater swimming. The spacious and well-maintained campground provides an excellent environment for camping and enjoying nature. Visitors can appreciate convenient water facilities, electricity charging points, and clean washrooms. The park's beautiful beach with clear water is perfect for relaxation and outdoor activities.
During our three week trip with RV in Nova Scotia this was one of the best campgrounds. We had site 9 in loop A with power and had a view on the ocean. Lots of free space to play. Quiet. Beautiful beach with little people and clear water is 100m away. Dumping station and fresh water also available. If you can bring your own wood instead of paying 5 dollar for some sticks (like everywhere in NS).

Last week I camped at Caribou/Munroes Island Provincial Park with group of friends and had a mostly positive experience. The camping lots are spacious and well-maintained, providing a great environment for a relaxing outdoor getaway. The water facilities and electricity charging points were very convenient and easily accessible, which made the stay much more comfortable. The washrooms, located in the center of the park, were generally okay. However, the toilets did have some noticeable bad odours that could be improved. Despite this, the overall cleanliness of the park was commendable. The natural beauty of the park, with its scenic views and serene surroundings, with beach close by and picnic area more than makes up for any minor inconveniences. I would definitely recommend this park for anyone looking for a peaceful camping experience and vast beach.

Just went for an afternoon at the beach on a Wednesday in July. Easy to get to, with wheelchair access to the edge beach, but no solid boardwalk for chairs to get onto the beach. Plenty of people there, but not crowded. Sand was soft, but had a lot of seaweed and shells. Water was ice cold, even at the end of July. Would go here again to enjoy the sand and sun.

At first I didn’t like the place because it looked like you’d get lost easily but after I walked around and got to know places and directions it went fine. The beach is really pretty and so was the sunset. Is was colder at night then I thought but it’s my fault for not bringing thicker clothes, so I suggest get warm clothes and blankets. Overall it was fun :)
Bibha — Google review
Love visiting Caribou park, there is plenty of green space for picnics, a camping area for RV's and tenting, and a pristine beach just a short walk from the parking area. Besides the stairway to get to the beach, there is also an unpaved ramp for those who can't do stairs. There are outhouses on site as well in case you need to make a quick pit stop.
Ashley C — Google review
This is the best camping spot for families. The bathrooms are really nice and clean. The sites are a great size and the beach is a nice sandy beach, although the water is kind of chilly. The Munroe's island hike is a good long walk that is easy for kids.
Christa P — Google review
Very nice park that is located along a beautiful stretch of coastline. It has a very nice and long sandy beach that rivals many other places. The sites are overall well sized, especially those with electric and water. Only site 30 is tight for larger trailers and a vehicle. The washroom with showers was very clean, they clean them hourly! However, for a park this size one building with washroom and showers is definitely not enough. Especially if you are in a different loop you are a bit out of luck if you don’t have your own bathroom as even the number of outhouses is low. But they do have cooking shelters which is nice in case the weather is not as great.
Frans S — Google review
Always loved Caribou beach. Have been going here since I was a kid. Long sandy beach. At one end is the pictou lodge beach resort. At the provincial park there is camping, picnic area with large grass areas and some shade trees. Parking area. Very few jelly fish compared to most beaches. Clean clear water. Very salty. Great for tanning or swimming and lots of room for building sand castles or playing catch.

Nature & Parks
McNabs Island, located in Halifax Harbour, is a secluded parkland accessible by water taxi. The island offers nature trails, tours of historic forts, and abundant wildlife. With over 200 bird species and various animals like rabbits, squirrels, deer, and coyotes, the island provides a unique natural experience. Once settled in the 1780s but abandoned since World War II, it now houses abandoned military forts and remnants of human habitation.
This is a great affordable family adventure. It's easy to access... just hop a boat ride from fisherman's cove in Eastern Passage. The cost is around 20.00 for 4 pple. The boat drops you off at one end, and the friendly captain gives you lots of instructions and a map on how to get to your pick up point. You will experience old military structures, beaches, wildlife and 3 large lovely abandoned homes. The whole hike takes about 1.5-2 hours to complete. Highly recommend.

We went today with the friends of mcnab society. It was a great experience for the whole family. Yet exhausting trip. Would love to go back again next year to explore other areas of the island. Only gave it 4 stars because we still need to explore other parts of the island.

This place is tough, rough terrain, lots of rocks and at the shire is windy. But if you're searching for adventure thus might be the place. You can take some of the trails and walk for hours just admiring the views. Take care with the animals and you're good to go.
Rix M — Google review
We went on an all day tour with Friends of McNabs Island. This is a non-profit, volunteer, registered charity that works to help preserve the historical sites on the island. Pick up was 9:30 at Eastern Passage and where on the island by 10 hiked almost 10 miles (9.7 by cellphone tracker). It was a warm day although the ocean breeze kept it comfortable for most of the time. There is no where to make any purchases on the island so take what you need for food and water. The island has some hills so it is more of a hike than a walk. The water taxi picked us up at about 3:30 and we were back to Eastern Passage by about 4. Fantastic tour, knowledgable guides and the group of about 25 was just about the perfect size, tons of history, and local stories.

Laurie Provincial Park, celebrating its 60th season, is a classic lakeside park located on the edge of Shubenacadie Grand Lake. The unserviced campsites nestled in the woods offer peace and quiet for a serene getaway. With paved roads and crushed dust gravel walking trails, it's perfect for year-round exploration. The park's natural beauty provides a picturesque setting for photography enthusiasts.
Great place to walk all year, but roads are not maintained in the winter. A great place to picnic or swim(requires shoes) in the summer...or even camp in the campground... The Central Bathrooms are very nice in the campground... Close enough to the city to be easy to get there, but far enough, it doesn't seem like your anywhere but far away in the country... Amenities are within 10-15 mins (bakery, pizza shop, grocery and liquor store, as well as fast food places if you wish).
Darren M — Google review
There are no personnel at the reception. Kind of self service, which is good, but on the opposite side - no one checks the park rules. People on this campground did not respect quiet hours at all. I could not sleep because of laughter and loud talks near the bathroom building. At 1 am someone started using an axe to cut the firewood. This all lasted to 2:30 3 am until it became silent. The park inventory is pretty old. Our picnic table was seeing its last year of service for sure, since it wanted to fall apart when we were sitting on its benches :) ( I am 60kg, not sure if it could handle 100kg people) Overall the nature was beautiful, tall pine trees, lake, cozy atmosphere makes this park worth visiting, but I personally am not sure I will want to repeat this again soon. At least I would look for the place far away from the bathrooms. P.S. if booking, avoid place 20 and others next to it.

We decided to check out Laurie Provincial Park as we had never been there before. Unfortunatley it was closed for the rest of the year so we couldn't drive in. Wr parked before the bridge in a small parking lot and walked it. It would be an ideal spot to camp in the summer. It has beautiful views over the lake with nice treea and even a proper fire pit with each camp ground from what I could see. The real area of opportunity for this campground is signage or lack there of. There is zero signage with roads interwining it is very difficult to navigate as it is not a straight forward road layout. This is my main reason for rating this park 4 stars.

What a lovely spot. Feels like a well hidden place only I know about. It's not as crowded as places like point pleasant gets. Barely saw anyone. A really good place for contemplation. Very quiet except when the train passes buy. Has lots of campsites too. Very beautiful in the fall. One of my favorite places in HRM.

A beautiful park on the shore of Grand Lake. Very clean park with lovely sites. Sites are not super private but not too bad. Washrooms could have used more attention from staff. Also did not see a park truck until Sunday morning. Not sure if staff were actually around on the weekend. Overall a great stay. We will be back.
Jodi G — Google review
This park is lovely year round! We took our dog here for a beautiful winter walk (plus 6 in January). The best part about it is that because most of the roads are paved and the walking trails are crushed dust gravel with a small layer of pine needles on everything, my dog did not get full of mud! That is a huge plus this time of year. There were a fair number of families and people walking dogs. All people and dogs were friendly however the park is large enough that you didnt see many people. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Year round!
Selena G — Google review
Enjoy walking along the Grand Lake, seeing different camper's set up. There are so many little beaches along the lake. People can enjoy their own privacy in their little beach. A program area with benches which is good for group function. I think that can fit at least 40 people.
Mei S — Google review
Very nice updated provincial park. Road is paved but narrow. The sites are the smallest I've seen in a provincial park. We had site 7 which has a tree at the edge of the door side of an RV. This would block most Rv's from opening their awning. My trailer is 17' and my car blocked the road while hooking/un-hooking. Be sure to circle the campground to find a tap you can hook a hose to in order to fill water tank.(I saw two with hose compatible fittings). Most taps have a smooth outlet that you can't connect to. Not the best park for big rigs but there were a few sites large enough. Cramped quarters aside, we had a great time in a well kept, clean park.

Had a wonderful evening stay in one of the new dome that have recently added to the campground, and all I can say is wow! May stay there was so quiet and relaxing. And the view on the water made it evening better. Also the fact there was a small kitchenette included, it was nice that i didn't have to pack alot. Definitely will be staying there again!

We loved MURPHY’s campground! From our arrival to our final day, Ryan and his staff were very helpful and informative. They knew just what we needed when we asked about brewery’s and grocery’s and even gave us two free coffees at a lovely market on our way to Dartmouth. The market had fresh produce and baked goods along with local fare. As an owner of a family business I can say this family cares a lot about their guests and their property. The natural beauty of the property is ever changing and the quiet atmosphere so relaxing. A real gem!

The campground’s location is excellent, especially if you’re a fan of kayaking. The area is exceptional for paddling around the small islands. However, the campground facilities are very outdated. The sites aren’t well maintained, the toilets and showers aren’t very clean, and the campground is a bit messy overall. There’s no place to swim due to algae. I would only recommend it if you’re planning to go kayaking. The location is truly outstanding for that.

Wow what a truly unique outdoor experience. CJ, Tanner and I had the treat of pack-rafting down from the headwater of the Margaree River with Lee. Over 3 days we descended from 379m elevation to 62 in the Margaree Sanctuary knowing that only a limited few have travelled those waters. Wildlife, birds and breathtaking scenery at every turn……and maybe the odd rock or two. It was a very special, memory making trip. Thanks Lee and Live Life in Tents

Tubing was so great! We went as a big group on the first day and had a fantastic time. Everyone we met on the river was great as well. Staff are friendly and outgoing and let us get on with our tubing adventures. The river is low but that means it’s warm and there’s great places to stop and have a swim. It is definitely better to have shoes on as it’s a rocky bed. We loved this so much that we went a second time a few days later and might do one more before leaving! Thanks to everyone who makes this activity possible!

We had friends that went river tubing last week. I decided to drive over and find out more. Even though we didn't have a reservation, and don't normally do tubing trips on Wednesday, they were more than accommodating to get us out on the river. And lots of patience answering my questions as I prepared for the trip with 2 kids. In addition to the trip, we bought hats, a waterproof case for my phone, and a strap to keep my glasses on. Their hats are stylish and comfortable, we love them! The weather was perfect, the water was amazing, we saw a bald eagle and ducks and ducklings, and we had so much fun splashing and swimming and floating. It was an epic day we'll never forget, and we're incredibly thankful. Also, they even took some amazing photos and videos for us! Super thankful, highly recommend!

Hiking Trails
Crowbar Lake Trail in Porters Lake offers an 18-kilometer footpath that winds around a small lake, with four smaller trails branching off to provide different scenic views. Hikers can easily customize their walk as each section allows for a return to the starting point. The trail is recommended for experienced hikers due to sparse markings, lack of signage, and limited cell phone reception. It requires good physical condition as it involves climbing and descending on narrow, rugged paths.
Me and my pup love this trail! Definitely moderate but not that difficult. Really nice on a rainy/moody day!
Joseph — Google review
This trail is well-marked (you have to keep your eye out for the tags on the trees). The walking is tough as it is covered in tree roots and boulders so make sure you have proper footwear or you will have very sore feet. Walking poles would be a good idea as well.
Sandra — Google review
If you are doing the first loop: going right has a lot of steep incline boulders to climb through. Left is also a climb, but more of a forest floor terrain. The small lake is before the loop, and is stunning in the fall. Perfect for fall photos!
Brooke — Google review
I absolutely loved this trail. I had no idea it existed. We hiked it in early March.. so lots of ice and you really had to be careful with your footing. It was challenging... lots of up and downs. We only did the first loop, which took us about 3 hours, but i think it could be faster during the summer without all the ice. I can't wait to do this trail again and hike further into some of the lakes.
Raelene R — Google review
Tried both north part and south part trail from which I prefer the south loop better. The crowbar trail is well maintained with varied natural resources and lakes. The otter lake entrance is more difficult to be found and you need to drive to the very end of the river Dr to walk a bit. Some areas are with steep uphill but if you are an experienced hiker, should be fully ok.

Benjie's Lake Trailhead offers a short and easy hike that leads to a serene lake, making it a perfect choice for families or those looking for a quick outdoor adventure. The trail starts off as a 4-wheeler path but transitions into a well-maintained trail, with the reward of reaching a peaceful lake at the end. Visitors have reported encountering wildlife such as moose and enjoying various outdoor activities like snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
Easy, short trail with a nice view of the lake at the end. Not as busy as some of the other trails.

No shades on the trail, could get hot. It felt a little boring for me, not much to see along the trail, when you get to the end, there is a small wooden deck to look over a small lake.
Cheryl C — Google review
Easy there and back trail. I visited mid-August. Wasn't lucky enough to see any wildlife

Short but beautiful walk. Well maintained trail with a board walk, a deck and benches at the lake. Very peaceful.

Located just 12 km from downtown Halifax, York Redoubt National Historic Site is a historic fortress dating back to 1793. This defensive structure offers educational displays and stunning water vistas, making it a perfect destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. The site provides forested trails with interpretive panels, fortifications, and rifled muzzle loading guns that offer breathtaking views of the ocean.
Such a great little walk around a beautiful slice of history; it's a loop, so you can start from one side and work your way around to take in the whole fort. The view from the wall over the water is spectacular and we were told by a gentleman who frequents the fort that the sunsets are phenomenal 🌅 The fort isn't open to the public after 8 PM, parking is permitted within the walls so long as you vacate by the time the gate closes at 8 PM and additional parking is available in the gravel leading up to the fort if it happens to be a busy day.

Just discovered that this place is a National Historic Site and a fort. Was so glad we could walk around in December and there was enough interpretive signs to still learn all about this very important fort. Came here to see the lighthouse across the harbour and the view was phenomenal. Must go to if in Halifax, such important history that gets passed over for Citadel and George's Island etc.
Nancy H — Google review
Very nice spot that I'm surprised I haven't visited before, being it is so close to Halifax, just off Purcell's Cove Rd. Well kept grounds, historical display boards (some need a refresh from weathering), and a decent harbour look off. Very quiet and peaceful spot today. Note that public restrooms are closed for the season.

This is more historical site without much of a history. It is a ice place for short walk, picnic, or city scape views
Ellery J — Google review
Wonderful historic site -lots of room to roam-great view of the shipping channel. There are cool abandoned structures with amazing graffiti. It’s very peaceful and a wonderful spot for a picnic and a walk
Patti T — Google review

Sylvain ( — Google review
Always liked this nature walk through history. They need a chain link fence not just that bar, so kids can't just run or even worse fall off the edge of that cliff. it's super scary, especially when it started to rain. What happened to the signs that told you what was what? Some education on the buildings would be great for tourists and new comers.
Joni S — Google review
This place is both splendidly beautiful and has a lot of history to it which dates back to 1793. The main purpose of building this place was to defend the ports of Halifax. It’s nice to walk around and learn more about the history of this place. Also the view from the bluffs is stunning. I could stay here for hours and enjoy the view. Unfortunately we got caught in a storm and had to rush back to our car! Lol

The Atlantic View Trail is a 10km stretch located in Lawrencetown, a charming coastal community in Nova Scotia. As part of the Trans-Canada Trail, it offers stunning views of the Lawrencetown coastline and the picturesque forestry typical of this region. The trail runs from West Lawrencetown Road to Three-Fathom Harbour Road and is ideal for walking and cycling.
Very beautiful view! Have some coffee at the café next door and then take a walk here, a very pleasant afternoon!

Beautiful trail ... used to be a railroad track crossing the bay. Like riding on water sometimes, hooking into Salt Marsh Trail and ending at Lawrencetown Beach. Great ride on a hot day as you will end at the beach where it could be as much as 15 degrees cooler. We were there in May 2024. 34 degrees in town and 18 at the beach!

Absolutely gorgeous upon first sight. It was windy and cold, but we just got to Nova Scotia and the kids had to see the ocean. Tons of rocks to throw into the water (and a few special ones picked to bring home and paint as souvenirs). I would definitely recommend a stop here for the gorgeous scenery. No limit to the photos one could take here. Especially around sunset.
Mona R — Google review
The Atlantic view trail is 3rd in line after leaving eastern passage on the shearwater Flyers trail, and transitioning into the saltwater trail and then leads into the Atlantic view trail. We are very fortunate as Nova scotians to have such gorgeous pristine coastline to be our backdrop as we enjoy a wonderful trail system following the coastline. We are in the debt of those who have created and maintained this trail system, and are thankful! We will remain positive ambassadors to the trail system!

Shubie Campground is conveniently located near downtown Halifax, making it easily accessible by car or public transportation. Situated in Shubie Park, the campground offers over 75 acres of natural beauty to explore, including Lake Charles and the Shubenacadie Canal System. While some noise from the nearby highway may be heard at night, the campground provides a peaceful and clean environment with friendly staff.
Absolutely a little gem of a campground. We stayed here for 10 days while we were in Halifax for my sister's wedding and we had SUCH a good time. The campground is really well maintained, spots are beautiful with decent space from neighbors, and the facilities (bathrooms and showers) are clean. There is no sewer connection but they have pump out services. The staff is wonderful, friendly, and helpful. The best part of the campground is that it is located directly adjacent to a lovely trail system and beach. The trail system has offleash dog designated areas, and our dogs loved it. There is a cool little playground, and also a very fun PUMP track just a short walk down the road. Highly recommend Shubie!

We stayed at Shubie Campground for 1 night. The service provided was super, with friendly staff and everything clearly explained/indicated for us as we arrived after the office had already closed. Location was really great, by a beach, and quiet. Bathrooms are really nice as well. Showers and laundry are also available, at a cost. This campsite has everything one needs to spend a great time, whether in a tent or otherwise.

This was my first stay at Shubie Campground. It is well located for those who want to visit HRM, Halifax Regional Municipality. It has good washroom and laundry facilities, a little dated but clean, well maintained and in good condition. The campsites are very good, ample size, well spaced, mostly level, with natural grass and gravel finishes. Lots of trees around and interesting topography. The campground boarders a well appointed municipal park. The staff is friendly and helpful. I recommend you stay as I certainly intend to do again.

Shubie Campground is a well operated urban campground with great staff who accommodate campers needs every day. I was on a cross Canada road trip from Vancouver and needed a place to stay for a couple of days while having some unexpected service done on my Sprinter camper van. Heather and Blair went out of their way to find a space for me and then during the busy time of their season they were able to find me several other sites so I could extend my stay for another 10 days. The on-field staff were great and friendly. The Campground is close to everything tourists might what to see. Its an easy drive into Halifax, its great there is lake swimming a short walk from the main campground. I had a great experience at this campground (lots of experiences in 3 months of travel) and highly recommend it to those in the HRD. Thanks folks for that great experience. J Taylor, Vancouver, BC

RV campground in a great location. It's located in Dartmouth with access to Halifax waterfront tourist attractions. It's adjacent to some great walking trails in Shubie Park. Facilities such as washrooms / showers / laundry are a bit tired, but serviceable. Most of the occupants are seasonal users, but the transient users seem to get located in one corner. Recommend sites 70-75 for more privacy.

If you are looking for private wilderness style camping, this is NOT the place for you. BUT if you are looking for a conveniently located, clean, family friendly campground look no further! We stayed at Shubie campground for 6 nights while visiting Nova Scotia and we were beyond satisfied with our stay. The staff was very friendly and the location was fantastic with the walking trails and beach right behind the campground. We will definitely be returning on our next visiti to the east coast

I 100% recommend staying here! The owners are super nice and accommodating and the facilities are clean. It's an excellent deal and we felt very safe. I recommend picking a lot on the water for beautiful sunset views :)

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Joyce and Paul were the consummate hosts, attentive to details and maintaining a well oiled and superbly kept campground. The facilities were clean and well-serviced. The showers were hot!!! We arrived in the afternoon and visited Peggy’s Cove in the late afternoon and were shocked at the number of tourists and tour buses. Because of the close proximity to Peggy’s Cove, we used the opportunity to scope out the sites and landscape and were able to rise at 8am and head directly to the site before tourists arrived and we had amazing photos. My wife and I camped on the waterfront at site 56 and enjoyed and amazing sunset over the bay. Please check this beauty of a campsite out!!!

Family run site. Freindly staff, washrooms are well kept and clean. Close to Peggy's Cove and a well stocked store The Whale's Back has everything you need 2min down the road. Paul The owner is very approachable and has a wealth of local knowledge. I would recommend this site to anyone wanting to experience rural Nova Scotia. About a 40 min drive from Halifax.

This a gem of a campground. It is right on the ocean and while it has only basic features, more layer, its location is awesome. We’ve seen whales popping up right in front of our tent. Being close to Peggy’s Cove is also a big plus. The only small comment I would have is that the shower and bathroom building is a bit outdated and the toilets are seriously low and hard for some people to get up from.

Amazing! Such a beautiful campground in a beautiful location. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Location is just down the road from Peggy's Cove so it was nice to be able to get to Peggy's Cove early before the crowds.

We are travelling across Canada from BC and while at a campground in Digby, our neighbour told us about King Neptune Campground as we were planning on visiting Peggy’s Cove. It was a fantastic experience. We could only stay two nights but would have stayed longer if we could. Right from the start at check-in, Paul was super friendly and walked with us through the site as he had two options for us. The campground is right on the ocean and it was beautiful and very peaceful. We certainly recommend King Neptune Campground.
Keith M — Google review
We toured Nova Scotia, and it’s easily one of my favorite spots—especially if you’re thinking of visiting Peggy’s Cove. You can even grab a taxi to get there, it’s only about five minutes away. That makes it perfect for catching the sunset, while avoiding the busiest times packed with tourists and all the hassle of parking. It looks more like an RV park, but the most beautiful tent sites are right on the edge of the ocean. You can watch stunning, endless sunsets over the water—it’s impressive. I’ve been there twice and it still gives me the same feeling every time. Anyone who says otherwise is either being dishonest or just one of those picky city folks who can’t enjoy anything. If you’re camping in Nova Scotia, it’s an absolute must.
Lo L — Google review
A truly magical place to camp! If you take the oceanside spot to the far right, there is a large rock you can sit on and have the incoming tide splash you. (At your own risk - there are signs posted since climbing down the shoreline rocks is tricky!)

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp Resort in Kingston, Nova Scotia is a family-friendly campground with a range of amenities and activities for both kids and adults. The resort offers mini golf, a heated pool, an arcade, and a kids corral playground. There are also sports options, a performance stage, and a concessions stand. Visitors can enjoy the giant bouncy pillow and duck races while the arcade provides entertainment at reasonable prices.
I keep forgetting to write this review but this summer was my first ever camping trip with my son who is 3. It was the best camping experience I could of asked for and it's all he talks about and asks when are we going back( we are thinking it will now be a yearly thing). The staff are all amazing mostly teens and younger people but respectful and will bend over backwards to make your kid happy. We stayed I believe 3 nights and by the next morning some staff knew my son by name. The owner was working the front desk and what a gem of a lady that is rarely meet someone so genuinely happy to make these kids smile. Sure the gift shop was crazy in cost for some things but your not forced to buy anything and they don't even push anything at all when asked what we could do at certain times they never once brought up any option that cost money only the free options. Tons of things to do well kept and everyone even the guests were nice.

The staff were friendly and helpful when I called with questions beforehand. Most of the sites are in an open field, but our unserviced tent site by the cabins had lots of shade. The bathrooms were maintained throughout the day and the showers were always clean. So many things to do for kids, and the pool was quite clean for the most used amenity of the grounds! The staff were always present and prompt and willing to help, even the understaffed canteen was on top of their customer service and serving out hot pancakes and the best milkshake I’ve ever had. We will be back!

If you plan on taking your dog to the so called pet friendly campground yogi bear and you’re a single parent expect to be limited to your campsite… If I wanted to take my kids to the pool I was advised to leave my dog at the campsite leased up..(there’s also been a heatwave warning the last few days) the campground also states you are not allowed to leave dog unattended at campsite??? I was informed this morning there’s a VERY small circle dog run that’s not in view of the pool I could bring my dog, but not leave unattended, and the walls short enough my dog could jump over it. Anyway here’s my “Karen rant for the day” I was sitting under the only shady section by the pool while Stella (my dog) slept beside me.. a worker came to me and told me dog was not to be in pool area (fair enough I understand) I explained I’m watching my kids in a single mom and as there’s no lifeguard and it’s required to have a parent in the pool area to watch the kids … he said fine as long as she doesn’t go in or near the pool.. great..I’m perfectly fine with that, then shortly after another two workers approached me and rudely said I needed to get out of the pool area.. he was not as understanding … so I had to pack the kids up and leave the pool.. the campsite is listed as pet friendly, so fair enough the dog isn’t allowed in the fenced pool area.. that being said outside the fence there is absolutely no shade I was asked not to leash the dog to the fence, there was no other location for me to leash the dog.. so my dilemma is, can’t leave dog unattended at campsite..can’t bring dog to pool area, can’t leash dog to fence area, but I must be in the pool area with my children if they are under the age of 14 (which they are 8/7) next day .. I take kids to park.. I was just standing there holding my dogs leash watching my two kids and a 3 year old, it’s a huge area and I was kicked out because I had Stella.. no dogs in this area allowed he rudely advised there are two signs posted on trees that says no dogs .. I didn’t see them it was an honest mistake but again that being said, there were no pet friendly location I could leash my dog close to the park while I also supervise my children, I was suppose to go to the road way and watch from there… so I could not partake or enjoy watching my kids play snd be close by as there was a 3 year old and also keep an eye on my pup.. i was approached and talked to about 4 times in different areas on the campground that I could not be with my dog.. the issue I have is that there are no dog friendly areas to tie the dogs up with shade so parents can actually enjoy the activities. I spoke with many other campers who were there with dogs and in and out of the same areas and was advised they weren’t spoken to once. When I went to speak with a supervisor of the campground I was informed by the older woman at the front well she’s a supervisor of sorts and said I could tell her my complaint .. she was less then empathetic and helpful. Now this has been the second time I stayed here and the first time was great, had a lot of fun.. but this time was awful and I was very limited on what I could do, when looking into campgrounds in the future I will be ensuring pet friendly is truly pet friendly. Disappointed, as a single mother this whole mini vacation has been exhausting, with the planning, setting up, everything involved in preparing for camping with two young children. First camping trip for the summer 0 Exhausted mom 1 I know there’s going to be people that disagree with me and that’s fine .. say that well that’s what you get for bringing a dog, there’s rules .. my issue is, it’s not pet and family friendly .. it’s either family friendly OR Pet friendly .. had I went with friends and no kids, wouldn’t have been an issue.. but I had my children and I missed out on a lot of swim time with them and park time with them.

Spent the Canada Day long weekend at Yogi Bear and had an absolutely amazing time. Our two girls, 6 and 2, loved the campground. Between all the amenities and the activities that the park has scheduled daily, there always seems to be something to do. The pool was great, the playgrounds are well maintained and have something for all ages, and the arcade/Rec Hall offered a great place to hang out when the rain eventually showed up. We had such an awesome time that we booked our next stay before we even left.

First time with grand kids, with tent. Awesome place kept clean never saw washroom without toilet paper. Will go back. Only negative are kids running around the whole place after quiet time, small children needing sleep. Great entertainment loved the light show . Great that pool is heated....food a bit on pricy side
Lise P — Google review
We had a great time. The grounds were green and clean. Shared bathrooms were very clean ✅️. Pool was heated and very clean 🩵 but some chairs are not comfortable. Nice large playground area . The minigulf was a bit neglected and needed a clean up. Arcaid was expensive and no airhockey or other active games, a couple of videos games. I agree with others that the souvenier store is pricy. Its a shame they dont offer some basics like bread and milk. The wifi didnt work one evening and the next it was super slow that we gave up trying. We stayed in a cabin which was lovely but I got locked in the bathroom because the door handle fell from the outside (they are long metal rod like that are not connected).. luckily my son was in the cabin at the time and rescued me. The bathroom is very tight and when you shower the place is flooded. So take lots of floor towels. There are no screen doors and lots of bugs 👎. The aircon was not plugged in and we didn't want experiment with it for the first time at night. So it got very hot. Lots of activities for younger kids, ours are teens so the stuck to the pool. Be aware you have to pay $15 extra if you want to secure a specific room or sight👎 thats even if you select the specific cabin before paying. We paid it 🤷‍♀️ not sure why we had to pay it only to find out all 4 other cabins were empty those two nights. We received a veteran discount 🫡 💙 We would definitely go again next summer, hopefully before the crowds.

Hubbards Beach Campground and Cottages is perfect for those looking for an affordable and convenient way to enjoy the beach. With free access to the sand and sea, your site or cottage rental includes all of the amenities you need to relax after a long day on the shore.
A big group from work spent the weekend at Hubbards Beach Cottages and we just had the best time. The beach is not big but the views are breathtaking. The cottages have a rustic charm with big stone fireplaces and a mix of antique furniture that makes it feel very homey. My bed was very comfortable and the view from my room was stunning. We watched a beaver swimming in front of our cottage. If you need to relax and get away this is the perfect place and if you need a little dancing the Shore Club is very close by. Highly recommend both:)

Just the best time ever! Our group rented a couple cabins over the long weekend and could not have been happier! The experience was superb! Laid back, nostalgic, and so much fun! The cottages are rustic but comfortable and cozy. The close proximity to the beach and Shore Club made our holiday one we won’t forget. The team at the campground were kind, responsive and went above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing stay. If you’re in Hubbards this is the place to book!!!

I wish I had taken photos to share! Our cabin was spacious, clean and well-equipped. The views from the covered porch to the water were breathtaking and it was fun to see a beaver swimming by! We fell asleep and woke up to the sound of waves so if you're a beach person, I highly recommend staying here! Cannot wait for our next stay.

During our experience, we found the staff to be extremely unprofessional and at times discourteous toward both myself and my partner. When booking a cabin, there are numerous hidden fees that are not disclosed on the website, and the staff appear uncertain about how to apply or explain them. We booked a cabin on three separate occasions and were charged a different rate each time, which reflects a lack of consistency and proper management. On our most recent attempt, we spent the entire day preparing to go, only to be quoted three different prices within the same day. Out of frustration, we decided to turn around and go home. I attempted to call the office afterward, but my calls were repeatedly disconnected. One staff member in particular—a younger woman with glasses—was especially rude and even hung up on me during a booking call. After reading other reviews, I noticed similar complaints, and the dismissive responses from the owner only reinforce these concerns. Rather than addressing issues professionally, the replies often come across as defensive and disrespectful. This not only reflects poorly on the business but also diminishes the reputation and legacy it once may have had. As a customer, I value professionalism, transparency, and respect—especially when I am choosing to spend my hard-earned money. Unfortunately, this business did not meet those expectations, and based on my experience and the way concerns are handled, I would not recommend booking here.

My fiance and I had an amazing time staying at one of the cottages. We only stayed one night but, we are definitely coming back. Staff at the Shore Club was fantastic. Everyone was extremely friendly. Looking forward to see next year's concert list.

Parked the trailer here for a week vacation. Rental trailer camping is very tight, you are basically onto of neighbours on both sides and behind you....... but it is flat, clean and each site has a fire pit and picnic table. Very friendly locals in the park. Great places to get food both in the park and within a few minutes walk from the park.. Great location, 45 min drive to many attractions. Facilities were clean and updated for a trailer park, feels like they were cleaned twice a day. 4-5 min walk to the sand beach. would stay again, staff was very friendly..

Franey Trailhead is a popular hiking spot located on the east side of the Cabot Trail near Ingonish Beach. The trail offers a challenging loop with spectacular views and the opportunity to meet other hikers along the way. While not an easy hike, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Middle Head trail, the Atlantic Ocean, and stunning mountains.
Franey Trailhead on the Cabot Trail is a rewarding hike for those up for a challenge! I went in the fall, and the colorful leaves were absolutely beautiful, adding so much to the experience. The trail is steep and can be tough at times, but every step is worthwhile, especially with the autumn scenery. I got caught in a light drizzle on the way up, but it added to the adventure—plus, I was greeted by a rainbow when I reached the top! The panoramic view of the Atlantic coastline, forests, and rolling hills is breathtaking. Highly recommend this trail, especially in the fall, for a memorable adventure on the Cabot Trail!

Warning: due to construction work, the trail is currently 12.8 km long, not 7.4 km as indicated on Parks Canada's website. The trail is wide and mostly in the woods. The view at the top is magnificient.

Ran the Franey Trail loop on Labor Day. Took the trail to the left of the parking area. The distance to the top this way was shorter, but the climb steeper and the trail surface more challenging. The long side mostly followed a gravel road back to the parking area. Other than two people at the top by the overlook, didn’t see a single soul the entire time. Enjoyed the solitude and amazing views!!

Beautiful trail that leads to a phenomenal look out. The trail itself is not technically difficult but the climb is challenging- 468 metres elevation. Warning - because of closed parts of the trail the out and back is actually almost 13 kms. Well worth the view at the end.

The Franey Trail in Ingonish offers a challenging yet rewarding hike, though I encountered a bit of a setback on my visit. Unfortunately, the trail loop was closed from one side, so I had to take a longer route than planned. Despite this, the hike was absolutely worth the extra time and effort. The highlight of the trail is undoubtedly the stunning view from the top, especially overlooking MacDougall’s Lake. The sight of the calm, blue waters nestled amidst the vast forest is breathtaking. If you’re up for a bit of an adventure and don’t mind a longer route, this trail still delivers an incredible experience. Just be prepared for the extra trek if closures are in place!

Beautiful hike! Moderate difficulty, some steep uphill climbs but the trail is well marked and easy to follow. Beautiful views at the top (make sure to check out both lookout spots!)

There may be alot more challenging trails in cape breton, but I have not been to those yet and among the trails that I have done, without a doubt this was the toughest. I am not in best physical shape but it was tough. It is quite inclined on the way up (you can take a bit longer and a bit easier route, which we took on the way down). Trail is not prepared and you would need good shoes and having a hiking stick would certainly help. It is pretty much through the wood and there are not much views along the way till you reach top. The view from the top is worth the effort as shown by the pictures, however if you are not much into hiking, you can see almost similar view from the gondola in Ingonish. Franey will take you much higher though. Make sure to have water and something to eat. I met a family of 6 who did the trail in 2 hours 10 minutes, but took me 5 hours including an hour on top to enjoy the views. I have attached some pictures but these do not do justice to the trail or the views from the top. These will give you some idea though. Just remember the pictures are not in particular order. Regardless, the joy of sitting on the red chair and marvel the views is priceless. Do not forget to check the second viewing point on top to view the valley at the back. I believe the hike be even more beautiful when the leave will change soon. Happy hiking and good luck

What a trail! To get to the top, you’ll be climbing upwards a lot. Some sections even have well maintained stairs that help a bit but those sections tend to get pretty steep. We had to stop pretty frequently to catch our breaths, but luckily we only saw one group on the way there who just quit at the first viewpoint area. Once you’re at the top, you’ll get a gorgeous view of the area below with the signature red chair of the Canada national parks. Don’t miss the second viewpoint at the top where you’ll feel like you’re higher than the clouds. Dress comfortably and wear shoes with a good grip. If your fitness can handle it, I highly recommend checking out this trail. You can also go counter clockwise where it is a bit longer to get to the top but it’s not as steep as going clockwise. There is plenty of parking.

Acadian Trailhead, also known as le sentier Acadien, is an 8.4 km loop trail located above Cheticamp in Nova Scotia. The trail ascends to a 365 m elevation but offers manageable terrain with benches for resting along the way. Visitors can also explore the 4.5km Middle Head Trail and the 9.5km forest hike accessed from the western side of the Cabot Trail.
Fantastic trail that manages to maintain a relatively gentle 5-7% slope or less for almost the entire length. Go counter clockwise to climb through a river valley crossing the brook many times, all over bridges. Views at the the top are stupendous.

This was our favourite hike on the Cabot Trail. It starts in a nice campground and follows a babbling brook the entire first half, with many mini-waterfalls that are really cool to follow. The incline is fairly long but pretty gradual and not too difficult. There are several viewpoints at the top of the mountain that are incredible picture opportunities. Very well worth the 3 hours to hike. We saw lots of indications of moose, so I imagine there's a chance of seeing some.
Dylan R — Google review
The trailhead is right by the visitor center. Therevwas plenty of parking available even we went there on Sunday (June 22) afternoon around 3pm. There was literally no crowd on the trail. I would recommend taking anti clockwise direction on this loop if you want less steep incline There are not great views on the west of the trail because it was mostly covered by trees blocking the view of the ocean. But the east side part of the trail was amazing because you can walk right by the side of the creek so you can listen to the pleasant sound of gente water flowing all the way till you reach the top There are no washroom on the trail so you may consider using the ones in the visitor center
Rengesh K — Google review
Lengthy hike, with elevation split roughly 50% up and 50% down (but it's a loop around a mountain, so that makes sense). Most of the trail is well kept, though there are quite a few spots with lots of rock and roots, and a couple very muddy spots in the lower areas so make sure you wear appropriate footwear (not sandals, flip-flops, or crocs, for example). It might seem like a long hike, but the views and areas within the forest are BEYOND worth the distance! Oh and it's dog friendly! Just keep them on a lead so they don't round a corner and come nose-to-nose with a bear or moose!
Brad M — Google review
8.4 km loop, half is steady incline, half is downhill. Breathtaking lookout points at the top, and the trail next to the mossy stream is so relaxing. I saw a few snakes on the trail. Could get hot in late June, bring plenty of water.
Cheryl C — Google review
One of the nicest trails I’ve ever been on well maintained and the views are just breathtaking in my opinion it was better then the famous skyline trail. The climb up the mountain is a hard one but the reward is worth the struggle. The climb down at the end is a big cool down with an amazing campsite right at the trails location. I would recommend anyone doing the Cabot trail to stop here and experience some of the natural beauty Cape Breton and Nova Scotia has to offer!

Black Hole Falls is a hidden gem for hikers, but it requires descending using ropes to reach the bottom. The rocks can be slippery, and there's no cell phone service in the area. It's recommended to inform someone about your whereabouts if hiking alone. The hike can be tricky, so safety should always come first. It's best to visit during low tide to walk along the shoreline as higher tides may cover it. Hiking boots are essential for this intense but rewarding trek.
World's highest tide indeed! The scenery changes throughout the day. Really interesting exploring the shore and the boulders as if walking in the ocean's floor. And don't forget to search a bit around for unique stones.
Kate — Google review
I would recommend this little hidden hiking gem. Be advised you will need to descend using ropes to the bottom of the falls. The rocks can be slippery too, of course. Important: there is no cell phone service from any carrier at this location. If you go alone, tell someone where you are. This hike can be a little tricky. Please, always keep your safety in mind. It's best to go during low tide if you want to walk out along the shoreline. During higher tides, the shoreline can be covered.
John W — Google review
Probably the most intense hike (but shortest) I've personally done yet but boy is the trek worth it! Just take your time and be careful and you'll be totally fine. Wear hiking boots 100%!! I'm not a strong person by any means, climbing down the cliff with the rope to hold onto was nerve wracking since I'm not used to rock climbing at all... But it was doable. Honestly a bucket list spot! Totally worth it!! We went swimming at the waterfall hole and it was incredible :) not too deep. We brought in sandals to wear for walking on the rocks in the water to swim. It's a bit confusing with lots of grown in footpaths around the waterfall which is kind of scary since there's no cell service at all to use your phone to navigate... But it's hard to get lost since you can pretty easily follow the river back to the rocky trail to exit.
Sepia — Google review
What an amazing hidden gem! Go there at low tide. Consider this as an easy climbing hike down the fall rather than a hard walk :P Walk to the bay, go rock hunting and enjoy the sun, the beach and the waves. Then come back to the main trail and keep going on the trail toward Pineo beach. It is a hidden gem off the beaten path. Be respectful and bring back your trash and water bottles please.
Lou P — Google review
Completely secluded and stunning, fascinating caves and rock formations. In the pic I see sleeping sheepdogs:) Wasn't prepared for the rugged trek and monster skitters. Hiking shoes, bug spray or full clothing coverage a necessity!
Frances H — Google review
Trail well worth it. There is a private no trespassing sign on the left of the trail but if yo follow the narrow trails, it will lead to the falls, first small ones on the right and than the taller ones that were frozen when we came for a quick visit. Definitely worth seeing, especially during a low tide!
Genia S — Google review
Really enjoyed this walk, had it all! Not too long excitement via the rope descent, and lots of water! The trail head isn't exactly intuitive though. Park at the corner, there's a kind of parking space, then follow the stone path right to the falls. Don't get distracted by the trail markers on the trees, pretty sure it's just a mud trap trail! There's a rope across the top of the falls to get to the right side to descend down. Great fun!
Derek M — Google review
Its an enchanting waterfall remotely located at the shore of Bay of Fundy. If the weather is clear Cape Split look off can be seen from the shore. The fall is covered by the forests although waterfall sound can guide you to the fall. The spring water tastes neutral and full of minerals as it slides over the rocks before the confluence into the Bay. The fall is around 18 feet high. The rocks are dangerous to be on it as they are slippery with the water caused algae. Kids must be under strict supervision while adults must be careful while climbing down. Also, high-low tides cause significant rise in sea water level. Tides should be well taken care of while climbing down the the fall and proceeding towards the Bay. Overall its memorable experience to visit the fall in summer.

Waterfall
Drysdale Falls is a beautiful waterfall that offers stunning scenery and clear water. The trail to the falls may not be easy to navigate, but it's definitely worth the effort. Visitors are advised to park on the side of the road near designated parking signs and use a makeshift crossing to get past a ditch before following the path towards the falls. It's recommended to wear waterproof footwear or be prepared for walking in the river, as part of the trail follows along it.
The trailhead shown on the google map is private property; instead, look for the trailhead by the little bridge. Easiest route seems to be following the river but be prepared for wet feet if the water is high. Waterproof footwear (or just accepting walking in the river) would make this trail even easier & faster. Great waterfall at the end - definitely worth the walk. Nice clear water and beautiful scenery. Wear bug spray. One of the waterfalls for swimming and an easy trail from the side of swimming area if you like to go on top of the falls.

Enter via the trail near the little bridge on the main road. Gorgeous walk in but it would be a bit much for anyone with poor mobility or low stamina. Be prepared to see ALL OF THE FROGS!! 😆🐸
Lace P — Google review
The waterfall is very beautiful, but if you going with family members you need to trek through a forest uphill, unable to view the beauty of waterfall after reaching the top. But if you’re coming with family members going down to the base of the waterfall is very dangerous, might be slippery. And To access the waterfall, Google map shows a road, it’s a PRIVATE PROPERTY. No one can trespass. People need to go through the jungle about 450m.

Beautiful falls but not overly easy to get to the bottom. If you follow Google maps, it will want you to turn into what appears to be a driveway, do not use this. You can park on the side of the road where the parking signs are located. Once you cross the road you will see where there is a make-shift crossing to get past the ditch, this is the path you use to get to the falls. In some places the path is easy to follow then it seems to disappear. Just follow along the stream and you will eventually find yourself at the top of the falls. Because I went when it was colder, I did not dare walking along the stream and getting my feet wet, which apparently is easier for getting to the falls. There are a few places just before you get to the falls that you can scale down to get to the base. This is one of the trickiest falls I have navigated. It is not impossible but, it does take a bit of fancy footwork to get to the bottom of the hill, which is a very steep approximately 50ft decent.
Tammy B — Google review
Amazing waterfalls! Park by the side of road and enter just beside baileys brook as in the video. Hike along the water and shouldn’t take more than 15mins to get to the falls. Slippers are preferred as you might need to cross water before reaching the falls ! Forget about strollers and change rooms.

Located on the picturesque South Shore of Nova Scotia, near the renowned U.N.E.S.C.O Town of Lunenburg, Off the Beaten Trail offers a remarkable glamping experience. The site provides unique full-service units, tent and RV sites. Guests rave about their stay in 'Legends by the Sea' trailer, praising the spotless and comfortable accommodations as well as the breathtaking views of Lunenburg Bay.
We spent the last 4 nights of our camping trip here in August. We prefer smaller, more personable campgrounds, this did not disappoint! We had the good fortune to be able to stay at the “off grid” site on the rocks- this site was amazing. We watched seals and porpoise in the water each day, got to see the Bluenose as she sailed by daily and saw so many stars! We took the opportunity to join a couple of the community campfires- got to meet a few other awesome campers and had so many laughs. We could not have asked for a better way to finish our 2 week vacation!

Being here, and staying at this sweet little garden shed was transformational. This was my first ever, female solo trip & I shared that to my lovely host, Katie. Katie went out of her way to make this weekend memorable for a gal on her own (but likely would have for just about anybody!!) First, Katie upgraded me to the garden shed (instead of the tent trailer, which I originally booked). This little shed was incredible. My pup, Quila and I slept here for two nights, and it had everything we needed. A small stocked kitchen (stove, mini-fridge, sink with hot water), a bathroom, a queen bed (and another bedroom with bunk beds). There's an outdoor shower with a propane heater I used both nights & once under the stars (as recommended by the other folks who run the campground). I'm so glad we got this upgrade, I absolutely loved this space. Second, Katie and her lovely team of friends at Off The Beaten Trail invited me for fires every night. One out behind the cabin, and one down by the beach. It was invigorating to be part of such a great group of folks, and just be at "home" with people who made you feel that way. While down there & before it got dark, they showed me all these incredible engravings on the rocks dating back to the 1800's. Third, Katie would do anything for anyone. She is as sweet as can be, and has big dreams for this space her grandfather passed down to her. There was a cherry tree, and a beautiful garden guests can eat from that he planted, and she encourages to do so. I also went to the Oven's Park down the road, this spot is central to all the best things, but far enough to feel grounded and at peace away from town. My solo trip would not have been the same anywhere else. I feel fortunate to have stumbled across Off The Beaten Trail, and can't wait to come back. Taylor

I waited a little while to write this review because I wasn’t exactly sure how to adequately express how grateful I am to have stayed at this gem of a place this summer. Off the Beaten Trail is a lovely spot not far from the UNESCO Heritage site of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, and the equally beautiful Mahone Bay and surrounding areas. It’s a stone’s throw from many beautiful beaches and stunning oceanfront landscapes. It’s a peaceful, quiet place, with a view across the bay to Lunenburg, and even some wildlife to spot in the quiet moments near dusk and dawn. While a new home has indeed recently been built on the waterfront property across from the campsite, as one recent poster wrote, there is still plenty of ocean view available for Off the Beaten Trail visitors. We even got to watch seals playing in the bay over breakfast one morning, right in front of our site - how cool is that? The facilities are well thought out and well set up, with two bathroom options and a shower, an outdoor kitchen, bbq and dishwashing area, among other facilities. There is a lovely campfire area which is active most nights, with guests from all over gathered around the fire together, chatting and getting to know one another. RV hookups are available, and I was able to trickle-charge my electric vehicle from our serviced site, which provided plenty of juice for all our local sorties, and getting back to the nearest supercharger. But a place is just a place without its people; all other draws to this place aside, we came to learn first-hand that owner Katie and her friends represent the best of maritime hospitality, kindness and human decency. I’m a single parent and I was travelling alone with my two daughters, more than 15 hours drive from home. Late one night, on our way home from the wedding we had come to attend, my daughters and I found ourselves stranded on the side of the road with tire-related troubles that rendered the car undriveable. It was chilly out, with no blankets in the car, and a rapidly dwindling heat supply. We were 40 minutes drive in either direction from everywhere, including our beds at Off the Beaten Trail. Due to the late hour and location there were no taxis available, no Ubers, and no towing companies answering the phone. After calling around for help for nearly two hours, I eventually caved and called Katie, apologetically, on the off-chance that she might still be up sitting around the camp fire, and have suggestions for whom else I might try calling. Luckily, she was up and answered, and before I could even finish my story, she cut me off and said “I’m coming to get you.” Without a second thought, Katie and Jenna hopped in the car and drove over an hour round trip to rescue her campsite guest, a virtual stranger and her kids, at 2 in the morning. I try not to be a wimp about things, but under the weight of all that stress I’ll admit I cried tears of relief and gratitude. The following day— as if all this wasn’t enough already— Katie lent her car, and Jenna cheerfully drove me all the way to Dartmouth, an hour and a half away (3 hours round trip-!!!), to retrieve my car where it had been towed for repair. All this from both of them without a moment’s hesitation, and without a second thought. —Who does that??? … these people, apparently. And I can’t express enough how incredibly thankful I am for them. There are many beautiful, peaceful little spots in Canada, tucked away and waiting to be discovered. But it’s a rare thing to visit one and feel as though you have arrived at a home-away-from-home, amongst family you never knew you had. I wholeheartedly recommend Off the Beaten Path. Thanks again for everything, ladies.

Wonderful evening around a campfire on the rocks along the sea with camp owner, Katie, Steve and other campers. Our dog and camp friend, Beau, were free to run in the water and fell asleep around us as we were sharing stories the fire. Our camping spot was serviced, clean with a nice camping table, and facing a beautiful view. The campground is not fancy, the facilities are simple, but it had all we needed and the experience there was the friendliest and most congenial we’ve had on our Canadian trip thus far. PS: we found there our first dog-washing facility… very useful! Loved the place.

Thinking about booking? Stop thinking and just book! This was our third family trip. We have stayed in the tiny shed and also the Legend trailer. Everything you need, and I mean literally everything. Want to cook outside? Go for it. Burn ban? No problem, group propane fire pit complete with blue tooth speaker and twinkle lights. Want to shower under the stars? You can do that too! We packed our clothes and our food and off we went. Pots, pans, utensils, linens, paper towels, shampoo, hair dryers, bug spray, tea and coffee, toys for the kids, do I need to go on? You won't be disappointed and you won't be bored! Unless reading a book while the crickets chirp and the boats sail through the harbour, is boring. Can't wait to return yet again. Katie is a host that simply can't be beat. Did I mention you can bring your pets and it's 420 friendly? Thanks again for a superb fam vacation.

The hosts (Katie and Devin) are two of the most wonderful people you will ever meet and their campground is magical. The trailer was spotless and comfortable and was outfitted with everything you could ever need. The views of Lunenburg Bay from the campground are the most spectacular on the bay and there is a beautiful little beach just down the road. We are so excited to tell everyone about our stay here and look forward to coming back as soon as we can!

Had a really relaxing time here, the upper campground was completely empty apart from us! Saying that is was a damp December weekend....! A little deceptive from the road as there's lots of older campers around, and your not quite sure what your getting in to! Once you've driven through the campers to the RV and tent sites though it was perfect. No noise , no disturbance. Kattee the owner was very friendly via text, unfortunately never got chance to meet her as there was a lot going off for her personally. There's electric and water (seasonal) hook ups on the Rv sites as well. Also a pleasant smelling pit toilet, and seasonal wash station. Definitely be back, that's a promise!!

Fabulous trail for cycling and walking. Have cycled the entire trail four times, always find it to be in great condition. Well maintained, scenic, many points of interest. Benches and rest areas along the way. Mainly hard -packed crusher dust suitable for hybrid bikes. Thankful to have such a beautiful gem in NS! Update June 2024: Unfortunately mid-sections of the trail are being repaired with sandy, rocky material which made it unpleasantly difficult for me on a hybrid bike. I was frustrated and saddened to be honest as I absolutely love the trail, my 9th time cycling the length. I do hope to see compacted crusher dust once again in future. For this reason I had to change my rating to 3 stars

I have cycled various sections of the trail from Troy to Inverness many times over the past 10 years. We have a group of six seniors (age 68-82) that does a 20-25 km section each week June-October. Most of our group have permanent residences in other places (Montreal, Calgary), but find this riding experience next to none. We find the exceptionally well maintained trail easy to ride, offering splendid views, with different sections providing their own unique features. A stop at the Judique Interpretive Centre, The Red Shoe in Mabou, or The Clove Hitch and Sandannies in Port Hood, is always a great way to finish off the morning with a bite and a cool one. Our thanks to the volunteers who do such a great job cutting the grass, maintaining the ditches, trimming the trees, and grading the trails. They are exceptional.

The Celtic Shores Coastal Trail runs from Troy to Inverness or vice versa. It is a flat surfaced smooth unpaved trail with splendid Coastal views along its path, enjoyed by cyclists and hikers.

40Pennant Point Hiking Trail

Hiking area
Pennant Point Hiking Trail is a picturesque coastal trail located in Crystal Crescent Beach, Nova Scotia. It offers stunning views of the ocean and takes hikers through rocky terrain, berry bushes, and some boggy areas. The trail loops around Crystal Crescent, providing access to beautiful beaches that can be explored during the off-season as well. Hikers can also venture to Pennant Point for rewarding views. Additionally, the area includes one of Nova Scotia's few clothing-optional beaches.
The trail starts with the boardwalks at Crystal Crescent Beach, and leads all the way across the peninsula. It's about 10.4km, but typically you end up going to second beach south of the main one. Great views, and the hiking trail is pretty moderate - nothing difficult.
Mat B — Google review
The trail doesn't have much elevation change, but it's about 9km in total, which makes it fairly challenging. It's easy to get off track. The western section can be muddy with overgrown grass. Strongly recommend wearing long pants and bringing plenty of water.
Shuai F — Google review
One of my favourite hikes in NS. It is a coastline trail so lots of rock, berry bushes and a few boggy spots with wonderful views of the ocean of course. We lucked out and hiked on a very unusual 21C day on November 5. We hiked out to Pennant Point and returned on the same trail rather than doing the loop through the woods. The outhouses are locked at this time of year so make sure you go before you get there. The return trip was about 12km. Very windy & loud at the point, so if the weather was a normal day in November you would need to dress warm and wear ear coverings. The beach parking lot is closed but people parked along the roadside on the way up to the gate. Likely best to park on the other side so facing out when the road fills with cars. Moderate difficulty, mostly due to length.
J H — Google review
Beautiful views! The hike is moderate to difficult, but so worth it. Loved the experience ✨💚🥾
Maria B — Google review
An amazing experience. Unfortunately, we couldn't make it all. I want to come back again and hike till the end.
Juan M — Google review
absolutely stunning views all the way around! definitely would recommend doing the entire loop, but it does require a bit of route finding at certain points (the trail is mostly unmarked once you get past the beaches, and it can be a little tricky to find if you stray off the path on the rocky areas). parts of the trail are also quite overgrown, and footwear with a decent amount of grip is probably recommended.
Jess G — Google review
A very beautiful place. I recommend it to everyone to visit. In summer, a good place for a beach and a picnic
Maria K — Google review
3/4 of the hike is along the rocky shore, the last 1/4 of the loop is through the goods which is super boggy & wet.

Breezy Petals Camping Resort Ltd is a family-friendly campground located near Shubenacadie Wildlife Park. The resort offers unique dome accommodations, including a party dome that can be rented by the hour along with Zorb Balls. Guests can enjoy activities such as Yoga by the Dome and mini-golf. Although currently open only in the summer, there are plans to extend operations to year-round for the 2022-2023 season.
I have nothing but good things to say about this place! I have been twice now and I will definitely go back again. Some D5 is honestly the best, the view you have on the pond especially when you’re sitting at the fire is amazing. Next time I want to check out the activity spot as I never got the chance before. Yun is really nice and so helpful if you have any needs or questions which is so great. It’s a great spot to escape the HRM and makes you feel like you’re so much further from home than you are. Highly recommend for a night or more for a getaway. Next trip I think we will try and book all the domes as the setting is so lovely it would be a great place to have a large gathering of friends and family!

I can't recommend this place... 1st off, there's giant windmills right behind the tent sites... they sound like jumbo jets. Two permanent campers run generators all day.. the camp runs on solar, and a giant generator runs at the other end all day... There is little to no mobile connection (very frustrating for kids....) the wifi only works 20 feet around the owners house... mini putt is non functional. they have ponds, but they're gross (murky standing water...) the bugs LOVE it, though... bathrooms are sketchy sheds, I used my own electric shower. They suggest you do laundry in elmsdale because it's expensive in camp. On top of all that, the price changes on the owners whim... don't ruin your visit... go somewhere else. Oh, and on top of that, she'll post your text messages on a public forum... it still doesn't change the fact that everything I said is true... and the price changes everyti.e you speak to her... so you show up with money and she says it's more everytime... good luck Yun... the previous owners were said to have run a much nicer place.

Myself and my two kids visited for two nights and had a wonderful stay. The domes are spacious and clean. Beds were super comfy. We had thundershowers for much of our visit, so the recreation dome was a hit. In dry spells the kids loved the trampoline and, mini golf and walking the edges of the ponds looking for turtles and frogs. A few bunnies were spotted hopping around as well. Location was great, not far from where we live in Dartmouth and easy to find. We’ll be back!

Went camping there with our own tent. The spot is pretty calm and clean and in tune with nature. The rec dome is really nice ! The washrooms and showers are a bit rudimentary, but the rest is perfect 😊 Note that you need to bring your own drinkable water and that the camping is all off-grid (solar panels for electricity).

I recently enjoyed a delightful stay at the glamping site, and it exceeded all expectations. The accommodation perfectly blended rustic charm with modern comforts, creating a cozy and romantic atmosphere. The décor was thoughtfully designed, with twinkling fairy lights and plush furnishings that made the space feel magical. One of the highlights was the stargazing experience. With minimal light pollution, the night sky was an awe-inspiring canvas of stars, perfect for a romantic evening. The site was also wonderfully secluded, offering a serene and peaceful environment that felt like a true escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring our stay was both comfortable and memorable. Overall, this glamping experience was a perfect blend of luxury and nature, making it an ideal getaway for couples, friends and family.

We had an amazing time at the domes, and are planning on making it a yearly trip and will definitely be recommending to friends! We were there on a really hot weekend and the domes came with fans which were great. And we had a beautiful view of the pond. We even made food in the public kitchen. The owner was super responsive and made the experience super personal. Overall amazing

Despite being just 20 kilometers from downtown, the trail creates a sense of being far removed from the city. The loops take about three to four hours to complete and offer varying levels of challenge. Some can be done as day trips from Halifax with access to good parking nearby.
