Rissyakuji Temple, also known as Yamadera or the Mountain Temple, is a centuries-old Buddhist temple located on a mountaintop outside of Yamagata City. The temple was founded in the 9th century and has been visited by famous haiku poet Matsuo Basho. To reach the temple, visitors must climb 1,100 steps along a mountain path that offers panoramic views. The temple is especially beautiful during autumn when the leaves change color.
This is a great spot to stop for a few hours on your way through the area (3 to 4 hours of plenty to visit and grab a bite in the town). Spectacular views from various points on the trek up. I recommend leaving your backpack at a locker as it can be pretty humid in among the trees on the climb and I was glad to have less with me.

This has been one of my most favorite places to visit in Japan so far. It is an absolutely magical place! We went on a drizzly day, so the raindrops and mist added to the mysterious quality of the location. There were so many stairs to climb- but a lot of places to step to the side, take a break, and look at the surrounding beauty. Moss covered statues, beautiful temples, and little shops skirted the path up the mountain. The grounds were in pristine condition and so clean. The view from the top was amazing!! I was under the impression dogs are not normally permitted on temple grounds but we saw (and heard) many dogs during our visit. There are many areas outside of the temple grounds to purchase food and souvenirs. There are also some paid parking lots nearby.
Brandy R — Google review
For foliage /momiji reference, these pictures were taken on October 22nd. Great place to slowly enjoy, but too soon for color change. If this area was in Kyoto it would be so crowded with tourists because of its beauty, but it still gives a untouched kind of place vibe. 2 hours should be enough to take your time going up and appreciate yhe nature, statues and local architecture
Andrea R — Google review
You’ll find plenty of paid parking at the base of Risshaku-ji temple, and it’s only about 500 yen. The view from the top of the mountain is absolutely stunning! The photo I took was taken in early November, so you can already see some trees starting to turn red and yellow. There are quite a few stairs to climb to the top, so if you walk up without stopping, it should take around 20-30 minutes.
Shelley L — Google review
Risshaku-ji Temple (Yamadera) was honestly one of the most impressive places I visited on this trip. From the moment I started climbing the long stone steps, I already felt that it was going to be special. The path winds through the forest, past small shrines and statues, and you can hear the sound of the bell and the wind in the trees as you go up – it’s very peaceful and a little bit magical. I visited in autumn and the colours were incredible: bright yellow, orange, and red leaves covering the mountains on all sides. Every few minutes I had to stop just to turn around and look at the view again. By the time I reached the top, the panorama over the valley and villages below completely took my breath away. It looks like a picture from a postcard, but standing there in person feels even better. The climb is a bit tiring, but not too difficult, and there are many spots where you can rest and enjoy the scenery. In the end I felt that every step was worth it. I left Yamadera feeling calm, happy, and very satisfied that I made the effort to come. If you are anywhere near Yamagata, I really recommend visiting – you won’t be disappointed.
ChuLuxe E — Google review
This a very famous temple with many tourists in the area. Nonetheless the many steps to the top are well worth the effort. The view is spectacular and the temple beautiful. But you will not be able to enjoy the temple alone as there are loads of tourists visiting. Still very worth the trip.
Bull D — Google review
1000 stair steps to reach the top. Admission fee for an adult is 500 yen. We recommend going up earlier than 11 AM because of many tourists visiting this place later on. It is worth the view as well as to embrace the beauty of the little forrest around the trail up. At the top you can expect a shrine and a little shop with drinks if you feel exhausted. The people are friendly and forthcoming despite the masses of tourists.
Ivo V — Google review
Be prepared for the need to walk up and down lots of steps to reach the top. It's a 1015-steps climb. There were however different levels for a stoppage and short rest. The fall foliage was still amazing along this pilgrimage route.

Kajo Park is an urban park located in the city center, built around the ruins of Yamagata Castle. The park offers various attractions such as sports facilities, a children's playground, and the Yamagata City Museum of History. Visitors can explore the remnants of the castle, including the moat and the 'Honmaru Ichimonjimon Ote Bridge', which provide insights into its original structure.
Went there under the Sakura full bloom. It was wonderful. Which happened to be on Saturday so seemingly every people in Yamagata were visiting the park. A lot of people picnicking and quite a few food stalls available. Highly recommended.

I visit Kajo on 8th April. Cherry has not yet blossom but they are preparing to bloom very soon. The blooming time should be 2 weeks after this. 🌸🌸🌸

April 2025 - at the end of the month the Sakura were in full bloom. Walking round it was possible to frame two hours' worth of shots. Really pleasant atmosphere too, despite the gloomy weather.

Nice and quiet place for a walk during the winter season. The entrances are limited but it’s a nice walk to get there. There are remnants of the old fortification and the paths are mostly well marked. There were a couple of closed parts (safety due to snow?) but there are alternate ways to get there anyway. I liked watching the ducks float around on the stream that surrounds the park. There is a patrols rebuilt castle and a old hospital inside the park.
Bernardo S — Google review
I’m not quite sure how anybody could give this part less than five stars it’s very beautiful. There’s a wonderful castle in the middle of it and it’s very peaceful.
Daynas — Google review
Kajo Park may seem rather empty and unimpressive at first glance, as it lacks the castle itself and only retains the castle walls. However, the view of the western sky at sunset, seen from the eastern side of the castle walls, is truly breathtaking. The park is also stunning during cherry blossom season. In fact, the absence of the castle allows the sky to appear more dynamic and beautiful—making this a rare kind of park. There's no doubt you'll find peace and healing in its quiet serenity
K A — Google review
A castle ruin with lots of modern use. Another form of use instead of a park only. The place is very large so that it's accommodating two car parks, a sport complex and two historical landmarks there. Visiting there is so relaxing and enjoyable. I trust it will continue be developed and contribute to the society and hope I have chance to revisit this place on the future.
Chuen — Google review
Not much to see unless you are very familiar with Sendai's history, I even paid to visit the museum, visit only if you are into museum things. The castle is not there anymore, but they do have used AR/MR to let you see it in place.

Ensure the day is not cloudy before visiting or you might not be able to see the caldera. However if there's clouds and thick fog you'll get a vision from buddhist hell meets Silent Hill, complete with piled stones, which is kind of spooky and cool in its own way.

Mogami River, one of Japan's three major rivers, is renowned for its swift flow and stretches nearly 225 kilometers. In the past, it served as a vital waterway for transporting rice during the Edo Period. Today, visitors can experience a serene ten-kilometer boat ride along the river guided by skilled boatmen who also entertain with traditional folk songs.

Zao Onsen Ski Resort is a charming mountain village near Sendai city, offering natural hot springs and stunning winter scenery. The area is known for its abundant snowfall, creating a picturesque landscape with snow-covered trees and unique ice sculptures. As the oldest hot spring in the Tohoku Region, Zao Hot Spring provides an authentic experience of traditional Japan amidst nature and old villages. Visitors can enjoy skiing on slopes suitable for all skill levels and then relax in outdoor hot springs at a reasonable price.
visited Zao Onsen Ski Resort and went all the way up to the top – it was freezing, but absolutely worth it. The wind was cold, snow all around, and everything was covered in a soft white mist that made the whole place feel almost magical. Even though I couldn’t stay outside for too long, the views and atmosphere were beautiful and unforgettable. If you don’t mind the cold, it’s definitely a spot you should experience at least once.
ChuLuxe E — Google review
A frustrating experience at this open ski area. It’s easy to get lost, and I somehow managed to lose my cell phone in the process. There are too many flat areas where you’re forced to take off your snowboard and walk—definitely not ideal. The weather didn’t help, and to top it off, there were way too many non-skiers taking the cable car up just for photos, blocking the way for those of us trying to actually ski. Not the best place for serious snow sports enthusiasts!
Dave H — Google review
A Paradise of Snow Monsters and Winter Adventures If you’re traveling to Yamagata in winter, Zao Onsen Ski Resort is a must-visit destination. The resort offers a diverse range of courses for all levels from gentle slopes to tight tree runs Get into the Zao Rope Way Sanrokusen for Juhyo Kogen station where you can have some fun with the snow. From Juhyo Kogen Station get into the Zao Rope Way Sanchosen and you will reach to the top(around 1661m). In you way you can see the Snow Monsters JFYI: there might be strong winds at the top so make sure to be prepared with proper wears and shoes. For skiers/snowboarders: the resort is huge and it’s easy to get lost. So have a course map with you. For snowboards : there are lots of flat areas where you have to remove your snowboard and walk for the next lift. Access: Get a bus from Yamagata Station to Zao Onsen. A one way ticket will cost around 1200Yen

The resort is incredible. 🎿 It has several slopes of varying difficulty so you can learn or try somersaults. The staff's attention is unbeatable. Long live Japan ♥️ ❄️ ⛄️

Best experience in Japan. You have to check the weather first. On a fine day, the monster are visible and you can play with snow. We took the ropeway. There are 2 station on the way. Last one is the main spot to see the mighty snow monster. There is also ski area and onsen area. Ropeway round trip price is around 4200 yen. At night there are some illumination also. It was freezing ❄️ cold. Must wear snow boots and take heat patch. It will helpful to survive 😅. Once in a life time experience as Yamagata has one of the highest snowfall area. For ski, pre booking is must. There are restaurant on the last stop. On the first floor, one suvenior shop is there. Vending machine is available to buy hot drinks. Washroom facilities are also in good condition. 10/10 ( as i get the perfect views and nice weather ) in
Sadia O — Google review
Discover a hidden gem of a ski resort that offers an extraordinary experience! This resort is a paradise for ski enthusiasts who appreciate pristine snow conditions, breathtaking scenic views, and unique local features. The ski tracks are beautifully maintained, nestled among majestic snow-covered trees, and the resort’s distinctive tree monsters add a whimsical charm to the landscape. Unlike the busier and more commercialized ski destinations, this resort provides a tranquil escape, ensuring that the slopes are less crowded and the overall experience is more intimate. Its budget-friendly nature, compared to more popular resorts like Niseko, makes it an excellent choice for those seeking value without compromising on quality. A useful tip for future visitors: remember to carry cash, as many of the cozy, on-site restaurants prefer it over card payments. While the resort boasts an ample number of ski coaches, travelers should be aware that English communication may be limited. Despite this, the friendly and accommodating staff ensures a welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone. Overall, if you’re in search of an authentic ski getaway where you can connect with the essence of winter sports in a serene and picturesque setting, this resort is an unbeatable choice. Don’t miss out on this less-trodden winter wonderland!
Sonia S — Google review
This a great ski resort, especially for beginners and sightseeing. There are some advanced hills, but not many so this isn't the place to come for big thrills. The beginner slopes are great for learning though! There's a lot of long, simple runs. Also, a lift ticket isn't much more expensive than a ropeway ticket so if you want to see the snow monsters you might as well go skiing too. Only real complaint is some awkward flat/uphill spots here and there that required me to take off my skis and walk a couple times.
Michael M — Google review
Exceptionally beautiful ski/board course. The trees look magical covered in snow. Has several beginner areas. The panoramic route through the snow monsters is amazing. Although there are a lot of flat areas in between. Free shuttle Buses run between the gondolas till evening. Gondolas stop operating a bit early so plan otherwise. You can take a gondola to the top with a separate ticket as well. Illumination was cancelled the night i went due to bad weather.

Nestled in the heart of Yamagata City, the Yamagata Folk Museum Bunshokan is a captivating destination that showcases the rich history and culture of the region. Housed in a stunning English Neo-Renaissance style building, originally constructed in 1916 as the prefectural office and assembly hall, this architectural gem reflects the elegance of early modern design. Designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan since 1984, it underwent meticulous restoration to preserve its historical integrity.
Free admission, English pamphlets available at reception. Some exhibits inside, though in Japanese. It is worth a gander and walk through, the building appears to have been meticulously restored. The restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with its tender and flavorful beef dishes, friendly staff, and pleasant atmosphere. Visitors can expect a great variety of menu options and helpful recommendations, including English menus for international guests.
I recently dined at a restaurant specializing in Yonezawa beef, and it was a luxurious experience from start to finish. The ambiance was elegant, featuring private rooms that added to the exclusivity. The service was exceptional; when I accidentally spilled my sake, they promptly replaced it without hesitation. We had the option of choosing shabu-shabu or grilled beef, and I highly recommend going with the shabu-shabu. The staff expertly handled the preparation, ensuring that the meat was cooked perfectly. Overall, it was a memorable meal, combining top-notch service with high-quality ingredients in a sophisticated setting.

I stayed at Daiwa Roynet Hotel in front of Yamagata Station and found this Yonezawa beef restaurant. We had yakiniku, and their beef is the best, melts in our mouth. We were very satisfied; the atmosphere is great, and the service is amazing. Highly recommended!

Absolutely excellent yonezawa beef. We ordered sukiyaki and yakiniku + sliced raw beef and a gyusuji. I would 100% recommend to order exactly the above set, you can skip the gyusuji if you are used to other beef tendon dishes elsewhere, but you MUST order all the other dishes - or lose sleep regret you didn't!

This was our second visit to Yonezawa Beef Tokiwa. Last time we tried the grilled beef, and this time we had the sukiyaki. Both were incredible—the best beef we’ve ever had. Highly recommend this restaurant if you’re visiting Yamagata! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Yonezawa Beef Tokiwa is one of the best yakiniku restaurants we’ve had in a long time. The local Yonezawa beef is tender and flavorful, and the sukiyaki-style beef was incredibly good. The steak on the hot plate came out perfectly cooked, with a rich aroma that filled the room. Alao loved the sweet grilled onions that paired so well with the meat. Everything tasted fresh and carefully prepared. English menu is available, and staff can speak english well. We visited twice for lunch/dinner during our stay at the hotel, and will be visiting this place again if we are in the area.

The meat was super tasty and impeccable service! You can get both already grilled steak, or pieces of meat that you can grill yourself on the table grill. Also they have beef tartare. Since this is at the ground floor of Daiwa hotel it is not as cozy as a small family owned restaurant.

First time visiting this restaurant. It is conveniently located near the Yamagata station and it was easy making a table reservation online. Ordered the grilled Yonezawa beef, it’s delicious! The meat and fat combination is perfect. Will visit again.

Castle
Historical landmark
Yamagata Castle Ruins, located in Kajo Park, is a popular spot for various events throughout the year. The park is particularly crowded during spring when visitors come to enjoy picnics and admire the hundreds of cherry trees in full bloom. Although the castle itself no longer stands and the garden may not be well-maintained, history enthusiasts can explore a small museum on site.
Came here on a Monday morning, 14/4/25. Very peaceful and quiet for a morning stroll, Sakura in bloom and there’s even a train line running next to the moat of water lined with Sakura trees. There’s no standing castle here but the space is nice and open and great for viewing Sakura.
Jay C — Google review
The castle opens from mid April till Oct. Please attention to opening days if you want to visit the interior of the castle. But the park is opened all year round, good stroll even during the winter.
Eyogurt — Google review
This castle found itself, like so many others, on the wrong side of the Meiji Restoration. Today, it's a quiet park and nice place to enjoy a bento with the family. Have a stroll through the partly reconstructed outer walls of the castle, and peer into the old well! It's not a bad ruin, or rather it is quite ruined, which is to say there isn't much left to see. It is peaceful, overall, with plenty of shade.
Benjamin C — Google review
Nothing interesting to see other than the bridge over the dry moat and the gate, as the castle is in ruins (there is no visible structures or remnants to view as there is unkempt vegetation everywhere). You could probably pass this place or sprint through just to say you’ve visited it. The peripheral structure/east gate has some exhibits to view (free admission)
Albert L — Google review
It's free to come and take a photo in this place. It's good to come if the weather is sunny, rather than at night. Good spot if you like to running around this area
Yovita A — Google review
Basically ruins of the castle are left here. However, reconstruction is in progress, so you can still see some structures unveiled. In all the space is still recommendable since it remains pretty original and untouched.

Unfortunately, was not open when i went there but i was able to walk the perimeter and look at the signs detailing the history and what it looked like before.

Okama, also known as Zao Okama, is a stunning emerald volcanic crater lake located on the Zao Mountains in Japan. It can be reached by road, hiking trail, or ski lift and offers rewarding views to those who make it to the top. The lake is famous for its ever-changing colors depending on the angle of sunlight and is surrounded by unique alpine dicentra flowers.
Took a ropeway from the zao village to the top and hiked for about one hr to reach the top. The hike is easy and scenic. The weather got too foggy as we reached the peak near the crater. So the view was blocked. It’s also quite windy up there.
Hanupya N — Google review
We arrived Okama on May 2nd as goldenweek holiday in Japan! We can drive up to the top by paying a ticket (800 yen per 1 car) It’s colder than we think, and the Okama is still full of snow!

The caldera lake is much larger in real, and it really leaves an impression. The altitude of the carpark is 1771 metres, so the mountain air is still refreshingly cool in midsummer.

Fantastic experience visiting Okama. Parked at the visitor center entrance, with a fee of Y550. Took us ~2 hours to hike up to the peak and to see the stunning views. Along the way to the peak, you would already see amazing views of the Gokishinuma (5 colored pond) that was caused by volcanic activities in the past. Definitely recommend to go!
Ryan P — Google review
Okama looks absolutely gorgeous in the early to mid April period, when the snow is partially covering the surrounding slopes, partly showing the brown earth below. Under a blue sky, this 残雪 (Zansetsu) scene offer in my opinion one of the best view of Okama. These are photos were taken at 13/4/2024 after a 45min hike from the Zao Jizo Sancho Station 蔵王ロープウェイ 地蔵山頂駅. Something to take note of: (1) the last descending cable car leave at 4:45pm at this time of the year, (2) The trails are mostly covered under loose melting snow, those trail without snow are very muddy. Although I did it with just a gaiter and not fully waterproof shoe, I would strongly suggest good waterproof shoe, gaiter, snowshoe or trekking pole. (3) You can find the gps route and more hiking info from Yamap. (4) These photos were shot at the viewpoint just to the east of Kumanodake 熊野岳 which I think offer better scenery at this time of year compared to the more southern viewpoints.
Wei P — Google review
I’ve skied at Zao several times, but this was my first summer visit. I have always wanted to hike and see Okama, and I would recommend this spot if you can. We drove up in a personal vehicle, but there are hiking trails and a chair lift a bit below the uppermost parking lot if you’re not driving. We also saw some cyclists biking up! There are many great hikes around, and of course, you can see the famous snow monsters without their snow!
Mary — Google review
It's a great place to visit. Emerald lake in volcano crater looks so magic.Amazing view from top of mountain. But Weather may be really unpredictable. So be aware about it and ready for any case. There are many ways to reach the place:by car, by free shuttle, by rope way or hiking. Parking place usually gets full very quickly,it's better to come before 10am. Hiking courses to the Okama crater are very good for any age and conditions. Never have try so enjoyable course.

Yamagata Museum of Art is a regional museum located about 1.1km from Yamagata Station, showcasing an impressive collection of Japanese paintings and renowned masterpieces of French Impressionism by artists like Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, Degas, and Kandinsky. The museum aims to enrich its collection and permanent exhibits with a focus on French, Japanese & Oriental art, and local art.
It was an impressive collection and even though the museum is small it is actually much larger than other art museums I have been to in Japan. The current temporary exhibit about Kawase Hasui is very extensive and amazing. It showcases the beauty of Japan!

If you're looking for a rather unusual museum in the somewhat small city of Yamagata that happens to have a rather large amount of famous impressionists' paintings, you have found it here at the Yamagata Museum of Art. I kid you not, you will find some lovely paintings by Monet and Van Gogh here at this tiny little museum. You will also find different exhibits depending on when you are there. Enjoy!

800¥ to go inside, and maybe you could spend 20-30 minutes. The collection was donated by Hasegawa family for Japanese Art side of the museum. The Modern French Art collection was loaned by Yoshino Gypsum, a very big building materials company. They have very beautiful Monet’s paintings: Water-Lillies & Undergrowth in Saint-German Forest, which I was truly mesmerized by those two. They have some Picasso as well.

At first glance, this looks like just another simple art museum. However upon taking another look, one can realize that this is do much more. The works of famous artists from all over the world such as Piccaso and Monet are proudly on display and while the museum may not be grande in size, what it lacks in quality, it exceeds in quality. To balance the western art is an impressive selection of traditional Japanese art as well as well as some contemporary pieces in addition

Zao Ropeway Zao Sanroku Station is a year-round cable car located at a ski resort, offering breathtaking scenic views and access to a mountaintop restaurant. The area is famous for the Juhyo, or snow monsters of Zao, which are a rare natural wonder.
I came in the afternoon after the peak hours, barely anyone in the queue and i was able to get into the cable car pretty quickly. I saw the morning queue and i decided to spend my first half of the day snowboarding on the other side of the mountain/entrance. I recommend spending the morning skiing/ snowboarding on the otherside and come in the afternoon after all the big groups of tourists for sightseeing have left for the day. Totally worth it, the view was amazing and out of this world. Really the highlight of my trip. If you are an expert, it would be an amazing experience to ski/ snowboard from the top of the mountain along with the snow monsters. I will definitely come again!!
Naomi A — Google review
We got there around 3pm, and there were tons of parking spots! The price was a bit steep, and I wish they could show me the cams from the second section. I spent 2000 yen just to get there, and I only stayed for 5 minutes because I couldn’t see much up there. The photos are from the first section, and you can see how foggy it is in my other review.
Shelley L — Google review
Here is my objective review of the Zao Ropeway Juhyo experience, 4/5, for obvious reason - the freaking queue time! We took the 7am plus bus from Yamagata station (be sure to queue early from there to make sure you get a seat on the bus!). You need to buy a ticket from the bus ticket counter, 2,400 yen for round-trip. It takes 40 minutes to reach here. Once reached, it'll be an easy 10 mins walk to reach there at 8:30am. This is a weekday, so we were genuinely surprised that the queue is at least 100 metres long. There was first a queue to purchase tickets, then another queue to the ropeway. The first part of the ropeway was particularly slow. There is only one small carriage up and down, ONE carriage! No wonder it takes forever to get everyone up. It took us probably 1.5 hours for our turn, bear in mind we reach at opening time. A lot of the tour group were lucky enough to secure priority lane (we tried to get the online ticket, but it was sold out very quickly every day). When we got in, we got squeeze packed like sardines, and the worker in charge will be sure to fill the carriage to the brim. So I must say the ingress experience was extremely poor, which is not what I'd expect from Japanese operators. Once we're up to the midway station, the experience gets better, and the second section of the ropeway is defined more enjoyable. Take us almost no queue to get up this time. The view from there onwards is magical. To know that Juhyo is a rare natural occurrence that happens only in certain areas in Tohoku makes it extra special. Also, I felt lucky to experience the dry snow at the top of the mountain. Saw a lot of skiers there. If I were to back here, I'd love to ski here. I think the view at the top compensated the terrible experience at first, but there is surely way to make it better. The ticket was very pricey, and the wait is just unjustifiable. It's time for an upgrade on the first section ropeway, for sure. For the view and Johyu experience, I'd recommend it, but you just have to come early and manage your expectations at the start. It took us 4 hours in total for this experience, and we made it in time to leave at 12 and head to Ginzan onsen next.
Louis L — Google review
Visited Zao Ropeway (Zao Sanroku Station) on a weekday in mid-February, and despite it not being the weekend, the queue was still very long. With so many tourists visiting to see the famous snow monsters, the wait time was almost an hour. However, once I got on the ropeway, it was absolutely worth it. The ride up offered stunning views of the snow-covered mountains, and at the top, the snow monsters (frozen trees) looked surreal—like something out of a fantasy world. The scenery alone made the long wait worthwhile.
Paul A — Google review
It really depends on the weather. During my visit; wind is too strong and snow are too heavy. Cant really enjoy the view and see the snowy trees. When we are at the top with king zao, wind is super strong and everyone out there had a frozen damage on our face. Nevertheless, great experience!
Wesley W — Google review
I went during early autumn so nothing much to see. I went to the highest station and it was rainy and misty so nothing much to see as well. So do consider the weather before you purchase the ticket. The weather got clearer when at the first station. There is a viewing point around 5min walk from the station.
Ai — Google review
Very poor operation. We didnt make it to the elevator because the waiting queue up to 2 hrs and our tour time didnt allow more time to wait. (we have 3 hours here but cant make it) If you want to see frosted trees there, make sure that you can spend a whole day in this area. DONT BOOK IT IN A TOUR, time is very risky.
Kiều V — Google review
Great season to look at the snow monsters in February. The view at the mountains was simply amazing! Arrived at around 11am, we were able to get in cable car with a short queue of around 15-20 minutes. Tickets were bought on site from a vending machine. We were lucky enough to go straight up to mountain top to see snow monsters thanks to the weather. It was freezing cold up there with only -8 degrees. But the view was magnificent. Note: keep the cable car tickets with you all the time, you will need it for 2 cable car sections up the mountain and return

The Yamagata Hanagasa Festival, also known as the Yamagata Flower Hat Festival, is a vibrant event held annually in Yamagata City. The festival features dancers parading along the central main street, showcasing formal women's dances in colorful kimonos, dynamic men's hat dances, and umbrella twirling. The festival has a gorgeous yet idyllic feel and is considered more familiar than other similar festivals.
(Translated by Google) The Tohoku region boasts a unique summer festival. The Yamagata Hanagasa Matsuri, held annually from August 5th to 7th in Yamagata City, is one of them. It has a relatively recent history, having originated in 1963 as part of the Zao Summer Festival to promote tourism in Yamagata Prefecture. The Hanagasa Matsuri grew out of the Hanagasa Ondo Parade, a performance held there. The theme song, "Hanagasa Ondo," is said to have originated from a song sung during the embankment construction work at Lake Tokura in Obanazawa City in 1919. It was based on the "Dohuma-utai" (earth-pounding song), a work song used during the foundation work. The distinctive "Ya-soo, maka-soo!" chants in the song were inspired by the sounds of the workers. The swaying Hanagasa dances like waves, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere. The colorful costumes and unique rhythmic chants attract attention. There are also groups where spectators can join in, making the performances truly spectacular and lively. There were so many performers that day (an estimated 100,000 people), and even just a small part of the festival itself was truly impressive. I hope you'll be able to attend such a celebration if you have the chance. Last day is August 7th. Unfortunately, it was raining so heavily that I had given up on going, but it turned into a light rain, so I couldn't give up and went to the venue. The authentic Hanagasa dance was amazing, with the graceful dances of the Hanagasa ladies wearing kimonos! There are about 3 ways of Hanagasa Odori! I didn't know!! ️ Hanagasa dance by various groups from 6:30 to after 9:00, When I see a group dancing seriously, I am drawn to it! About 30% of the groups are doing it seriously, and 70% are feeling like they're being forced to do it. Unfortunately, I couldn't watch it until the end due to my physical limitations before I saw the university club. Really disappointing 😢 I was glad that I got to see the powerful taiko drum performance up close instead. The water supply for the dancers was refilled every 20 to 30 minutes. We stopped at the time and took a breather. The dancers in happi coats instructed the leaders of each team to ensure that each team finished dancing within the time. I enjoyed it. Thank you very much. There wasn't much of a traditional atmosphere; there was a hip-hop group taking steps to the song, a ballet group incorporating basic steps such as plié and tendu, and a team of Self-Defense Forces doing salute poses... And they (of course) don't match the rhythm, so it feels forced... Since the road is blocked off and you move in one direction, it felt like watching a costume parade, and I got bored halfway through. There were no traffic jams, there was plenty of parking available, and it was easy to see the sights, so I guessed it, but even locals had never seen it before! It seems like there are a lot of people who say that, so it's not very popular. Since this year's event was held without restrictions, I heard that the number of tourists was on an order of magnitude higher than in recent years, but I was glad that it wasn't crowded and I was able to see it more easily... If we don't lower the threshold in this way, we won't be able to attract dancers. As for the Bon dance festivals in the Tohoku region, Nishiba Onnai Bon Dance and Morioka Sansa Dance are far more spectacular and offer a deeper understanding of the history and climate. I definitely recommend that one! The Yamagata Museum of Science and Industry is a seasonal museum that offers interactive exhibits showcasing creative science and industry concepts. Visitors can explore hands-on activities and marvel at a giant pendulum display. This family-friendly attraction caters to both adults and children, providing free admission for all. Although the staff primarily communicate in Japanese, they make an effort to assist visitors in English as best they can.
This place is definitely not just for kids! Even adults can enjoy, I had fun learning about electricity. A Staff (i couldn’t get his name), probably a professor, was so kind to explain all what’s the exhibit’s all about! I am really thankful for his help, I hope to see him again if I get a chance to ho back there! Since my Japanese Skill isn’t good, it was a bit difficult to understand everything but everything is so interactive, we can learn by trying them out. The best part is it’s totally free! Coming here made me want to learn more, study more! Overall it was a best Science Museum I have been to!

AMAZING AND FREE ADMISSION (pay for parking only) Kind of stumbled on this place via a google maps search of the area as we were looking for something kid-friendly to do. We were not disappointed. We got here early, around 11 am and there weren't that many people. We were given numbers as they limit the number of people in the facility due to COVID. There are hand sanitizer stations everywhere, and popular exhibits are frequently wiped down or there is a staff on hand to assure that sanitizer is used and touched items are further disinfected. The museum is located in the Yamagata Chamber of Commerce building and there is parking inside of the building. We were there for about 2 hours and spent about 500 yen in parking fees. You access the museum from the 4th floor of the building, right by the elevators. It was a little tricky to figure out where we were supposed to enter. The kids had a blast, learned something about science, which is what we were able to interpret to them since everything is written in Japanese. Highlight for them was the drawing table on the bottom floor where an attendant would scan your image and it would appear as a sea creature on the screen. Highly Recommended!! :)

(Translated by Google) 2024.10.5 [Utakake Inari Shrine] Our company was founded in the 4th year of Genna (1618, early Edo period) when the predecessor temple, Gobutsu-zan Kissho-in, enshrined the Inari-sama that was recommended from Fushimi, Kyoto through a syncretization of Shinto and Buddhism. At that time, this temple was located at Inariguchi, Yamagata Castle (near present-day Yamagata Station). It was customary for those who came to pray to offer songs. This is because there was a bridge nearby that you were not allowed to cross unless you read the song. It is said that the name ``Utakake'' was born from the custom of people dedicating these songs. (Songs include waka, tanka, and renga). I believe that when the shrine was transformed into Inari Shrine, in keeping with the customs of these people, the name Utakake remained as the name of the company, and Utakake Shrine was enshrined. Coincidentally, in 1614, Mogami Yoshimitsu, the 11th lord of Yamagata Castle at the time, passed away. In other words, it seems that Lord Yoshimitsu was still alive and well at the time of Kisshoin. Lord Yoshimitsu was feared as a wise general by military commanders from other countries, but he was also a man who was skilled in literature, and it is said that his hobby was composing poems. What an elegant story, isn't it? I also received a goshuin stamp. thank you very much. The garden boasts an impressive artificial hill and spring water features that create a serene atmosphere.

Yamagata-jo Ninomaru Higashi Otemon Gate is a significant structure within the Yamagata Castle ruins, easily accessible from various points in the city. The gate offers a glimpse into the castle's history and features an open turret for public exploration, providing insights into its excavation work and historical significance. Situated near the Yamagata Shinkansen tracks, it presents an ideal photo opportunity with the castle ruins.

(Translated by Google) Just looking at the stone walls surrounding Higashi-Ōtemon Gate, it's easy to imagine its grandeur, regardless of your understanding of the castle's scale. The two "angles" surrounding the gate on three sides provide additional defensive depth when entering the Koryo Gate from the Ote Bridge. The towering "gate turrets" and "suzuya" (turrets) create an excellent defensive barrier for attack, defense, and observation. Another unique feature is the nearly 14-meter-high main beam of Higashi-Ōtemon Gate, the "turret gate crown wood," which makes the gate's visual impact undeniable, whether viewed from the front, side, or inside and out. Viewing Higashi-Ōtemon Gate from a different angle reveals many classic Japanese aesthetics. While lacking the distinct windbreaks of the castle tower, the "roof roots" on the turrets are rich in detail. Whether it's the Chidori-pofeng (a type of wind-blown pattern) and hanging fish (a type of fish) ornaments on the gables, or the simple, yet impressive, "maru" tiles and the "chiwei" (a type of ridged tail) on the "roof tiles," they're all captivating. After completing our visit, we headed from Higashi-Otemon Gate to the Mogami Yoshimitsu Historical Museum.

Senshoji Temple, renowned for its famous ginkgo tree that demands a wide-angle lens to capture its beauty, attracts visitors seeking the vibrant autumn foliage. However, during a recent visit on November 6, 2022, the greenery dominated the scenery, indicating that it might have been too early for peak fall colors. Undeterred by this timing mishap, many individuals are contemplating revisiting the temple next week in hopes of witnessing nature's colorful transformation.

(Translated by Google) This is the grave of Komahime, the youngest daughter of Mogami Yoshimitsu. Her mother was Otome no Kata. Her eldest brother was Yoshiyasu. Her aunt was Hoshun'in Yoshihime, and she was a cousin of Date Masamune. As the youngest of five siblings, she was raised with great love. At the age of 11, she had an audience with Hideyoshi's nephew, the Chancellor Hidetsugu. He suggested that she be made a concubine, but her father Yoshimitsu managed to get through by saying, "I will give her a proper education so that she will not be subjected to the humiliation and pointing fingers of the people of the capital, and when she turns 15, I will definitely comply with your wishes." Hidetsugu could not wait any longer, and Yoshimitsu said, "If I do not obey, I will bear the stigma of a traitor for the rest of my life. I know this will be a pity for Okoma." He made the difficult decision to offer 13-year-old Komahime as a concubine. 1593 Hideyoshi's concubine, Yodo, gave birth to Hideyori. In desperation, Hidetsugu went on a falconry expedition on Mount Hiei (a sacred place at the time), a practice that was forbidden, and sacrificed innocent townspeople to test the sharpness of his sword. Rumors that he was acting as a living regent rather than a regent quickly spread throughout Kamigata, angering Hideyoshi and enraging him. His life was spared, but his regent title and territory were confiscated, and he was taken into custody at Seiganji Temple in Mount Koya and placed under house arrest. Hideyoshi's purse-holder, Ishida Mitsunari, took advantage of this and falsely accused Hidetsugu of treason, slandering him that he was suddenly plotting a rebellion against his lord. Hidetsugu was sentenced to commit seppuku. (Died at age 28) However, Hideyoshi's wrath did not subside. It extended to his wife, concubines, and young children, and he ordered their execution at Sanjogawara. With the intercession of Hideyoshi's wife, Nene, and Yodo-dono, Hideyoshi ordered, "Since Okoma has not yet been married to Hidetsugu, let her become a nun in Kamakura. I will spare her life." He sent a messenger, but it was too late, and Princess Koma's execution had already taken place. Her death poem: "I am the one who will be executed by Amida's sword, which will cut down my sins." Modern translation: "They say that we are born with five sins. What sins do I have, since I am about to be executed? It is a pity that I am being executed despite having committed no crimes." He died at age 15. When his father, Yoshimitsu, learned of this, he was so saddened that he could not eat. Her mother, Lady Osaki, mourned for two weeks, then followed her and committed suicide by disembowelment. An isolated jizoson statue can be found on a snowy hill, forming a picturesque landscape that attracts the attention of visitors. This place of worship, known as Zaojizoson, offers blessings to all who pass by and commands reverence. The serene ambiance combined with the white blanket of snow creates an unforgettable sight for anyone who visits.
I visited Zao Snow Monster at Yamagata last week. Then I draw two pictures using Chinese ink painting. On the top of the mountain, it's foggy, chilly, and snowy. I was lucky to see the Buddha.
YUAN S — Google review
I drove all the way from Tokyo to see the snow monsters and the weather was just as expected. "Bad" is not good enough a word to describe the terrible weather at the top. However, there are some snow monsters (trees with lots of snow/Ice on them) near the station and they look pretty good. This statue is more than 2 meters tall and was covered in snow till the neck. I can't comment on the course but go up with a good pair of gloves and a camera you can operate with your gloves on. Otherwise, you can be sure that your fingers will freeze in the super cold winds. Cover your head well and wear glasses at all times because the white-outs will affect your vision. Do not even think about crossing the red ropes because if you lose your way, you will freeze to death. This is mother nature at its prettiest and ugliest at the same time. The cable car was pretty crowded on a normal day with 10 minutes waiting times but there were no lines at the ticket counter. I do not recommend going here on weekends or holidays if you hate crowds. Lastly, keep an eye on the weather. They say that this place gets only 10-15 days of clear skies in the two months of snow monster season and only the really lucky people get to see the fantastic views. I have been watching this place for 3 winters now and the weather never fails to disappoint. You perhaps need to be a local person to see the awesome snow monsters on a clear, sunny day.

(Translated by Google) March 26, 2025 Park playground equipment has been updated and is now available for use. Since it is larger than before, it can be used by many people at once. This is the explanation of the image posted in June 2023. Although it is one point in this park, it has a history of more than 60 years since it was installed, and is thought to be the oldest. There used to be swings, horizontal bars, ladders, rotating toys, seesaws, etc. near this area, but all of them have disappeared. This equipment is also showing signs of weathering, so I'm worried about how long it will last. This is not made of natural stone. The area around this area was renamed from ``Chitose Park'' in 1954 as Yakushi Park, and remains to this day. The name ``Chitose Park'' was newly established in 1884 (Meiji 17), but it dates back to 1879 (Meiji 12) as ``Chitoseen'', which served as both a park and a technical examination center. Construction began in August 1878, and construction was completed in November 1879 (the following year). The size of Chitoseen was 364m from east to west, about 546m from north to south, and a total area of about 58,300 tsubo (192,727.273 m2). ``Yakushi Park'' is the part of the original ``Chitoseen'' that was left as a park after its industrial examination center function was separated. This park is a historic park in Yamagata City. The Chitoseen monument located in the park near Yamagata Prefectural Route 19 Yamagata Yamadera Line is a replica, but the original monument has been relocated to the front garden of Yamagata Higashi High School. The monument was originally erected near the National Technical Examination Center, and was moved in September 1985 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Yamagata Higashi High School. It appears that the original monument existed in this park until around 1985, before it was relocated. (Translated by Google) It's a temple. There is a parking lot. The scenery along the straight road to Dainichido was beautiful, so I stopped by for a quick visit. I visited "Chitoseyama Dainichido". The precinct garden was beautifully maintained, there were goldfish in the pond, and seasonal flowers were blooming. The road to Dainichido was lined with pine trees on both sides and was beautiful. After walking down the Matsuki road for a while, there were some stairs and Dainichido. Two black stone guardian dogs were standing in front of me. Personally, I felt it was rare because I had never seen a black stone guardian dog. The view of Dainichi-do Hall surrounded by fresh green trees was very beautiful. I came back after visiting the shrine. Is there a Japanese maple in front of the torii? There were trees like this, and there was also a cherry tree in the precincts, so I felt that the temple seemed to have an atmosphere throughout the seasons. The temple was founded in 737 (Tensho 9) by the high priest Gyoki, who built a small chapel, and was relocated to its current location by Jikaku Daishi Ennin in 852 (Ninju 2). Heisenji Temple is home to the head of a Great Buddha statue created during the Kanbun era (1661-1673) of the Edo period. This enormous Shaka Buddha, formerly known as the "Chitoseyama Great Buddha," was erected in the east in 1672 (the 12th year of the Kanbun era) by Okudaira Masanori, the lord of Yamagata Castle at the time, as a guardian Buddha for the castle town. The imposing statue, measuring 3 jo 3 shaku (approximately 9.6 meters), was enshrined in the hexagonal Great Buddha Hall until it was destroyed in a fire in 1832 (the 3rd year of the Tenpo era). The head of the Great Buddha is currently in the process of being rebuilt, and although temples throughout Yamagata have been asked to cooperate in the reconstruction, the project was stalled after the head was created. The principal image, a statue of Taizokai Dainichi Nyorai, as well as statues of Komokuten and Zochoten, are enshrined in the Dainichi Hall (Kan'oden) on the grounds of Heisenji Temple. Nestled within the stunning landscape of Yamagata, Konponchudō at Risshakuji is a captivating destination that beckons travelers with its rich history and breathtaking views. After ascending a challenging flight of stone stairs, visitors are greeted by the vibrant colors of flags adorning the temple and the fragrant aroma of incense wafting through the air, inviting those who wish to offer their prayers.
This is the first of all temples before you would begin your hike uphill to the upper mountain area. It certainly is worth to stop here and enjoy the beauty of this place, as it can be pretty motivating to hike up to the upper temples.

(Translated by Google) There are three routes to visit the temple from Yamadera Station: Route 1: Walk along the Yamadera Hoju Bridge and ascend the Kagura-iwa Trail. You can then visit Risshakuji Temple, the Sanmon Gate near the ticket office, Hie Shrine, the Emperor Seiwa's Imperial Treasure Pagoda, the Basho-style monument, and finally reach Konpon-chu-do Hall. This route is a bit far. Route 2: This is the main route up the mountain, ascending from the Hie Shrine entrance, passing the Emperor Seiwa's Imperial Treasure Pagoda, the Basho-style monument, and finally reaching Konpon-chu-do Hall. Route 3: Take the trail directly to Konpon-chu-do Hall from the trailhead on the far right. Regardless of which route you choose, this is the most bustling temple we visited that day, for three main reasons: First, it's one of three designated "Important Cultural Properties" on the Yamadera Risshakuji Information Map, the others being the Three-Storied Pagoda and the Prefectural Tangible Cultural Property, Nokyo-do Hall. Second, at the temple entrance, a half-human-tall statue of the "God of Fortune," one of the Seven Lucky Gods, is enshrined. Ebisu, the smiling god of wealth, is more familiar to many, often seen at restaurants and shops. This time in Yamagata, in addition to Ebisu, we also visited two other gods of fortune: the "Hokyofukudai-son" here and the "Kurao Daikokuten" statue at the Torikado Observatory. Third: The "roof" is not built in the typical "Karaha-style" style common in shrines, but rather in the "Irimoya-zukuri" style with a "mukaibi" (moku-pai). However, this place has a strong historical connection with Kyoto's "Hieizan Enryakuji Temple." In particular, the "hall" is derived from the "Fumoe no Hoto" (a lantern of the same site). Furthermore, the rebuilt temple hall bears the marks of over 600 years of age, with the "roof" constructed of beech and copper sheets, another key attraction for worshippers. Due to the large crowds that day, framing the view was difficult. Those wishing to pray up close, especially for the popular "Shofukufukufuku-no-Daimon," had to wait in line. Whether praying for a child or healing an ailment, many people touch it in the hope of bringing good luck, resulting in noticeable color differences in the wood grain. After a brief pause, we returned to the "Sanmon" entrance to begin our exploration of the mountain temple today.

Nestled in the serene embrace of nature, Minenoura Tarumizu Iseki is a hidden gem that beckons adventurous souls willing to trek off the beaten path. While it may not boast the grandeur of nearby sites like Ryushaku-ji, its charm lies in its seclusion and tranquil atmosphere. The journey begins with a challenging 15-minute uphill hike through a dense forest, where you’ll likely find yourself alone amidst towering trees and the sounds of wildlife.
This is a very interesting place and also one that was used by monks to meditate. The catch is that it is located in the middle of the forest and there are warning signs of possible encounters with wildlife including bears, boars and deer. We decided to walk from the road up passing the cemetery and given there were few people on the trail we decided to go up to the ruins. The ruins are located in the middle of nowhere in the forest and on top of some rocks. The path to get there from the road is clean and it takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes and the location is really relaxing. The only thing that is a bit concerning are the warning signs. We did not encounter any wild animals and after coming back I have to say it was worth it. If you are going alone, perhaps just make sure you are prepared or wait for other visitors if anyone else is around the area.

The cave is definitely a lot smaller than what photos make it out to look like. Like.. really smaller. But it is very cool! Also the hike to get there at this time of year was intense… lots of ice, snow and melted snow. Not for the feint of heart! Google maps tells you how to get to the entrance and then factor a good 20/30 minute uphill hike to get there. Overall still glad we went.

This geological rock formation is breathtaking and stunning...the path on the other hand could use some improvement. Nothing major but bring good shoes and long trousers. I was eaten alive by mosquitos, so maybe bring some insect repellent too.

Had to hike through a snowy mountain, but ended up having a wonderful experience and wont be able to forget it easily. I am glad I made a decision to explore around Yamadera beyond Risshakuji Temple!

The cavernous Tarumizu ruins, located around 10 minutes walk east of the Rissyakuji temple complex entrance. Pleasant hike along a forest path to the caves. A couple of intriguing caves with tryphobia style holes. Small shrines built into the caves and mountain face.

The old meditation place for Buddhist monks. One of the great places to visit in Yamadera. Great stone formations and caves. Highly recommend.
Mohaimenul P — Google review
Although this place is not as spectacular as ryushaku-ji it is nevertheless worth a visit. It lies at the end of a strenuous forest path about 15 minutes uphill from the main road and draws almost no visitors. Attention: Don't get fooled by the directions that Google maps offer. It is situated about 1 km walk on the road from ryushaku-ji towards Tokorobu. At the bifurcation take the left road and walk for about 700 m until you see a huge stone torii at your left. There is Senjuin temple and a cemetery. Go up the stairs and cross the unsecured tracks (watch out for trains!!!) Go past the cemetery at the right hand side and just follow the signs. Not an easy walk, especially after visiting ryushaku-ji but also not too demanding. You will be rewarded by a tranquil forest setting with a great spirituality.

Stunning - go if you still have energy after Yamadera, or if you’ve been before. There were a few people who walked up to the rock formation and back, but no one walked the whole trail that leads back to the cemetery. It was a bit eerie and I was careful to make plenty of noise to warn off any wildlife. Absolutely beautiful though. The trail takes about an hour to an hour and a half, and you most definitely need proper walking shoes. Don’t risk it if you’re in trainers - you’ll be fine up to the rock formation and back, but the rest of the trail is very uneven and at times muddy, with fallen trees and a small creek that you need to jump. It’s well indicated, but clearly has very little upkeep done to it. Adds to the charm but also to the eeriness. You won’t get lost but you might meet a bear 😅

Kinoene Daikokuten, a Buddhist temple known for its serene atmosphere, has captivated visitors with its grandeur and spiritual aura. The temple's corridors are adorned with flickering candlelight, casting a gentle glow upon the exquisite artworks created by members of the Gourd Lamp Lovers Club. One cannot help but be entranced by the tranquil expression on the face of the revered Sanzon statue, which seems to transcend time itself.
(Translated by Google) Continuing from last year, I went to worship. The large Daikokuten in front of you is a sight to behold. The main hall is very spacious and you can relax. I was very happy to receive the Ryujin-sama and a limited edition Goshuin seal for the second year in a row. Each one is handwritten, but it's amazing. (Translated by Google) Since it was a weekday, Wednesday, there were no other people there, so I was able to look around at my own pace. I also got a great view of the scenery. I got a temple stamp! I also tried making my own arm prayer beads without making a reservation. It was a really good memory. But the best part was when I had a prayer after making my arm prayer beads, and the sound of the prayer was soothing and added to the mysticism. I would like to visit again.

I had notified the day before at 9 p.m., if that was possible, and we received a response around 8 a.m. that she would be waiting for us and that she would do her best to speak English. The experience was superb! The lady took all her time to explain each stone to us and how to do it. After making, the monk came to bless our bracelets through a ceremony! Incredible experience! I recommend everyone to go visit them! Ps: There is a monkey in the last photo! (Original) Sugoi ! By chance, there were no visitors, but you can give away goshuin, goku, lucky charms, etc. Also, it was sold out, but is it an ema with a limited design of Onsen Musume Komachi Onogawa? It seems that there are also bills. There is also a limited edition panel of nun costumes, so I think it would be a good idea to go see them. I couldn't go on the special day that comes around once every 60 days, but since the opening of the secret Buddha statue will be completed at the end of this month, I visited on a normal day! ! Using the navigation system, I parked my car near the foot of the hot spring area, walked up the approach, and saw the main hall! ! It was on a hill and had a great view and was beautiful! I had the chief priest take care of the formalities, and while I was visiting the hidden Buddha, I had all of the goshuin handwritten, including the regular goshuin, the special goshuin (the one with golden characters), and the goshuin that will be completed when I visit the shrine again next year! ! After visiting the shrine, I was glad to see the stamps being written! ! (^o^)/ I think it would be difficult to draw a picture of a dragon with a brush, but I thought it was amazing to see how smooth it was! ! (^-^)/ If I visited the shrine at night, I would get a special goshuin stamp with silver letters, but since the person was coming from far away, I gave up...(>_<) I will visit again next year! ! (Translated by Google) The first impression is one of softness and gentleness. From the automatic wooden entrance door to the expansive wood flooring, the entire building feels like a place steeped in intellectual sophistication and a sense of humanistic beauty. While there were no performances in the exhibition hall when we visited, we happened to see an exhibition of works by students from Tohoku University of Art and Design, titled "Craft Expo 2025: Ceramics, Lacquer, Metal, and Fabric." In addition to the exhibition, a series of crafts were also on display around the building, imbuing the entire "Robi" with a rich artistic atmosphere. Another attraction that caught our eye was the kumiko craftwork that spans the entire right side of the "Escalator" on the way from the first floor to the second floor. This type of craftwork, completely free of rivets or glue, was first seen at the "Old Ryotei Kinyu" in Akita Noshiro, where the kumiko craftwork of "Kaze no Matsubara" exhibited there was particularly impressive. This geometric "kumiko-style craft" is flawless up close. It's the result of meticulous measurement, production, and assembly by artisans, ensuring each piece fits perfectly together. This is a time-consuming process and a masterpiece. After our visit, our restaurant reservation was almost up, so we walked across the street to eat at "Alukechiardo Concert Hall."

There's a covered walkway from the station to the hall's main entrance! Light rain isn't a problem. ☔ You'll get wet in heavy rain. 😅 There's a souvenir shop and cafe on the first floor of the hall, so you can relax while waiting for the show. ☕ You can also kill time in the station building or in the entertainment district opposite the hall. The hall seats about 2,000 people, so I didn't feel like I was too far away, even from seats in the back or on the second or third floors (personal vision and sensory perception may vary). I think it's easily accessible for both local and international visitors. 😊 You can even enjoy a drink by train or bus. 🍺*(ˊᗜˋ*)و I really felt this venue offered a wonderful experience.
