Zoo
Nasu Animal Kingdom is a unique zoo and farm combination located in a scenic farmland area. It offers interactive experiences, captivating animal performances, and hands-on exhibits that set it apart from traditional zoos. Visitors can interact with various animals such as rabbits, kangaroos, alpacas, penguins, and seals. The renowned bird performance where birds fly inches above visitors' heads is particularly exciting for children.
Love this place. The shows are excellent! Good balance of learning and entertainment. The bird show in particular had a lot of wow factor as the birds flew in barely over the heads of the audience. More immersive exhibits compared to other zoos I've been to. The wetlands and rainforest enclosures especially. Marmosets and lemurs wander around (seemingly) freely and the sloths are cage free. This adds a good touch of excitement to moving through the park. Feeding events/ opportunities are also great. Feed penguins and a seal at 300 yen (3 small pieces of fish) also you can buy feed for the otters and ducks. Restaurants are as expected a little expensive but surprisingly good quality and portions. Also some animals walk around the park with their handlers and you can touch them. Skunk! Anteater! Tortoise! Love this place, will certainly go again.

This zoo is absolutely amazing! The entire place is clean and well-maintained, and all the animals look healthy and full of energy. It’s clear they are very well cared for. There are plenty of small animal feeding shows that kids absolutely love. The on-site restaurants serve delicious food, making it easy to spend the whole day here. Weekdays are less crowded, and even on rainy days, the covered areas are so well designed that the fun never stops! Highly recommend for families.
Cerise — Google review
On the day we went sightseeing in Nikko from Tokyo, we visited this zoo at our daughter’s request to see capybaras. The capybaras were calm, and we all fed them leaves. Some were even soaking in a hot bath. Although we only stayed for about 45 minutes due to time constraints, we were able to see many rare animals. Not only Miss daughter, but the whole members of my client family was happy.
ITokyoTravel-iTokyoDrive T — Google review
I went here last year and it was terrible. Im not a zoo person in general because I love animals but I was taken here by my cousin. I saw two seals that were in an extremely small area with barely any water; there was just enough for them to submerge their body — not swim. The water looked very murky and green. I also saw what I think was a reindeer. The hooves of the adult reindeer were definitely way too long and needed trimming. It also looked like it was on the semi malnourished side. I was able to see some of its ribs. I'm not a vet or anything but i've always loved animals and I have studied about them through many videos and all I know is none of this felt right to me. I felt very heartbroken for the animals. The kangaroo looked very depressed in the corner and I'm really hoping they let it out at some point every day because that is not a big enclosure at all. Same with the reindeer. I also saw a tiger which I dont have a picture of but I swear, its enclosure was way too small. It kept pacing back and forth repeatedly, and books/videos have told me that usually means the tiger is either stressed, bored or frustrated. I wouldnt want to waste a penny on buying a ticket for this zoo. I personally do NOT want to support this.
Rina T — Google review
This zoo is low quality and perhaps the worst zoo I've been to in Japan for what they charge. Ueno Zoo charges 600¥ and has a way larger variety of animals. We went on a week day, no crowds and STILL could not see the cat show because of full capacity inside? How does this zoo not account for that? There is plenty of surrounding area to provide suitable seating for paying customers, especially on a day with not many people around. Overall, this zoo is expensive for no variety.
Vinny F — Google review
Went on a weekend, not very crowded. A hidden spot with little foreign tourists. Great place to bring young children on a family trip. Many attractions to observe the animals up close, with many events held at different timings. Lots of enclosures that allow for visitors to feed the animals for 100 yen. The park is very large and split into 2 parts. The second part visitors can take a free bus or pay to ride a tractor and Chairlift. It would be good to drive there since public transport is scarce.
Neo C — Google review
Great place. They need to update some of the animal enclosures. Some are too small for the animals. The bird show is absolutely amazing! Parking price was a bit crazy. I had a very fun time

Well maintained. Clean and tidy. Could see animals up close. The only blemish was no free parking and ¥1000 paid upfront.

Amusement park
Theme park
Nasu Highland Park is a family-friendly amusement park nestled in the Nasu Highlands, offering an array of attractions and rides suitable for visitors of all ages. With over 40 attractions, including eight large roller coasters and various entertainment options such as live music and animal encounters, the park promises a full day of fun. Set against the backdrop of the Nasu Mountains and Kanto Plains, this expansive park features intertwined roller coasters, water rides, and a 3D theater.
Nice small theme park. Decent rides for a smaller park, crowds during a school day (week day) were essentially zero. Zero to 5 minute wait for all rides.
Dave A — Google review
Arriving at 12 and leaving at 5 we were able to do most of the larger rides aswell as the newer indoor attractions. We could get on each coaster in less than 20minutes, some just walk up and get on. They are decent coasters, alittle old so you feel more impact compared to newer tech. Food was good junk food but alittle pricey. Overall a fun trip and nice scenery.
P R — Google review
every penny worth. I visited on Summer holiday. Must recommended. I visited USJ, Yomiuri land, but I was tired of waiting in queue. but here my kids enjoyed thoroughly just with few min of Queue. Luckily I got opportunity to see the fire crackers.
Mubarak A — Google review
Amusement park in a really pretty setting. 8 coaster at this park but only 6 were open for my visit. I did check the schedule beforehand and didn't see any coasters closed, so that was a little but disappointing. Long lines for food at lunchtime due to a few school/college groups. Lots of attractions for everyone to do, including a big wheel, shot tower and double decker carousel. A huge gift shop near the entrance with a few gacha machines too! I bought my tickets in the day at the entrance and didn't queue to get in. So many dogs! Being a dog friendly park, lots of people take advantage of this! So cute. There are also attractions in the park dogs can do, they are well catered for.
Charlotte B — Google review
Nasu Highland Park is a great park to create experiences like never before that will open the wonderful creative minds of many. The attractions and mazes create a diverse, appealing landscape across many ages! The thrill rides like Big Boom have many elements that create many interesting roller coasters! Although, getting to Nasushiobara by Shinkansen then to the park by an 1:30 hr bus, it is very comfortable and convenient overall! The laser attraction where the deck of cards is, has a laser room that will satisfy the needs of everybody due to the hilarious people that hit the lasers like Audrey Bui and the length of the ride! Have a great day at Nasu Highland Park!!!
Roman T — Google review
Great park in a remote area. Unique and fun rides. Lacks a modern standout ride, but still has some charm with some of its oddities. Like most parks in Japan, the safety routines are over the top, and can hinder operations. Standout attractions would be Big Boom, a oddball coaster with a steep drop and large camelback into a vertical loop. Also has a nice double Decker carousel and a cable driven observation wheel.
Jacob O — Google review
I had so much fun at this place! Different kinds of attractions there..I visited there during holiday so the place was jampacked with people. Good to choose unlimited ride if you will go there during weekdays or else you will wait in line for more than an hour. But still I had a very enjoyable day there and hope to visit again soon.
Bubu C — Google review
Nasuhai is a little bit chilly because you are on highlands, great view too, other than that you can just easily explore the place in one day, kids will surely benefit the fantasy pass set ticket, they can ride and play all day whichever they want.

Nasu Stained Glass Museum is the largest of its kind in Japan, featuring antique stained glass from the 19th century. The museum is housed in a stone building designed to resemble an English manor house, creating a serene atmosphere for visitors. In addition to admiring the beautiful stained glass displays, guests can enjoy concerts on weekends and even participate in a stained glass craft experience to create their own unique key chains.
Nice place to visit. There is also a workshop that you can hand-on to practice your skill
Albert H — Google review
The Victorian Era vibes was amazing, you can buy a lot of great souvenirs. Great quality products and overall beautiful pieces of stained glass.
Angel G — Google review
Lovely property that looks like a medieval mansion combined with a church. The beautiful stained glass windows are of course a joy to see. In addition, you can hear an old music box play and a live pipe organ in the church. Stained glass lamp works are also available for purchase.
Yuko — Google review
The ticket does not worth the price. Only similar lamp design displayed. Colorful windows and English style decorations. The shop sells products made with glass and related to the church but does not worth shopping there deliberately. Great spot for shooting outside of the church like other churches. A workshop for glass accessory (requires 40-60min) but the designs are not quite attractive. Overall, not recommended. Felt like a scam for the ticket and travelled by bus for it :( But if you go by car, and have other attractions to go nearby, great place for some pictures.
Monique L — Google review
It's modern stained glass, I was expecting them to be medieval works. The place was on the upper side of the hill, so it took efforts biking there. But the calm athmostphere and some orgel and pipe organ performance do make the place nice to visit.
Hana T — Google review
An old church with stained glass windows. Pipe Organ concert every 30 minutes or so. Also other recitals in crypt. They have various lamps to sell as well.
Marlene Y — Google review
Very pretty place and definitely worth a look. However Westerners might find it a bit odd that so many Christian religious items, imagery and replicas are used for the sole purpose of admiring and selling stained glass.

Great place to take wedding photos. Also they have a stained glass museum (also a church) that you can visit

Nasu Garden Outlet is a resort-style shopping mall with 132 stores, featuring a focus on sports and active wear. Notable stores include On Classics Store, favored by professional runners, BARCLAY+ women's shoe brand, and Grand PARK for quality and comfort. Located near Nasu Highlands and hot spring resorts, it offers an ideal stop for tourists visiting the area from Tokyo. Unlike other outlets in Chiba and Gotemba, Nasu Garden Outlet offers reasonably priced brands with bigger discounts.
A very relaxing place for shopping with a wide range of brands having shops at the outlet. The highlight from the Outlet was the long chips - they were freshly made on site and they tasted great!
Stella Y — Google review
We visited Nasu Garden Outlet on a Saturday, and it wasn’t crowded, which was great! There was plenty of parking space, and we were able to park just a few steps from the entrance, making it super convenient. While there weren’t too many shop options, it still had all the well-known brands. Overall, it was a pretty decent experience!
ココ — Google review
This outlet is great for walking with your pet. I particularly think the Nike store is fantastic for anyone looking for good, cheap sneakers. There are many on the shelves compared to other Nike outlets. The photo posted of the La Boheme restaurant is wonderful, sophisticated atmosphere and very good food.
Roberto R — Google review
I love this outlet mall. Because it is one level only, it’s quite big. Prepare to walk for long distances. Besides that, lots of brands and products are available at a very reasonable price. Food selection is also good. To get here, the best option is still by car. If you are a visitor coming to this place can be quite tricky.
Joe L — Google review
The atmosphere is relaxed, with many brands and food products to explore.
Niko — Google review
While this outlet mall is conveniently located near Nasushiobara Station, international travelers might find it somewhat lacking. The selection of luxury brands is very limited, and even popular brands like Nike have a restricted range on offer. However, the mall is extremely pet-friendly. You can dine with your pets on the terraces of restaurants, and they are allowed inside if you carry them. There’s also plenty of space for dogs to run around freely. That said, the quality and variety of the products might be a bit disappointing, especially if you’re used to shopping at outlets abroad. Overall, Nasu seems more suited for enjoying the great outdoors and local cuisine rather than for shopping.
Kyle S — Google review
Really big shopping garden with lot of famous branded outlets, you can find clothes, foods, vegetables and some sweets. also can find rare items for gift like blue berry honey. so it's good visit if you have a extra time like 1-2 hours. price is very reasonable for almost everything
Aruna S — Google review
I went there on a free shuttle bus from Nasushiobara station. If you want to get there, try to check it on thr website for the schedule. It snowed the day before I came (on 28th Dec) so snowed all the place. This time every brand is on big sales with many famous brands. Got nice stuffs for my holidays. They also have restaurants and convenience stores in case you are lost in the maze of shopping stores. :)

Mountains
Mount Nasu, located on the border of Tochigi and Fukushima Prefectures, is a picturesque volcano known for its hiking opportunities. The area surrounding Mount Nasu is famous for its imperial villa and expansive highlands, making it one of Japan's premier resort areas. Visitors can enjoy the thriving dairy industry in the region and indulge in delicious milk-based treats at a local dairy farm open to tourists.
This is a beautiful mountain to hike during autumn. Although it’s quite difficult to go to the peak, it’s real fun. There is a cable car to reach the ropeway’s top station, from there we can start hiking which will take around 50 Mins to 1 hour to reach summit.. comfortable hiking shoes and light jacket are recommended because of full stones where one might skid if comfortable shoes aren’t worn and it gets a bit chill as you climb up. You can also see plumes of white volcanic steam rising from Mount Chausu’s as you make your way along the trail to the peak. There is a small restaurant on the top station from where you will start hiking. It serves good hot soba, meat, Hot Dog etc.
Lakshmi — Google review
We just went for a beautiful, short hike up to the Mine no Chaya shelter. Rather than taking the cable car, from the parking lot we went left, and although it is a little steep in some spots, it is quite an easy 40-50 minute hike up to the shelter, and maybe about 30 minutes down. From the shelter you can go left up to the crater, or right and continue on to Mt. Asahi and then Mt. Sanbon-yari, with the full return trip taking about 5 hrs.
Rory R — Google review
Absolutely stunning! Beautiful scenery up on top of the mountain. There’s tons to see on the way up the mountain as well.... amazing local restaurants, shops, museums, and a natural Onsen.

Wildlife and safari park
Nasu Safari Park is a renowned destination featuring a safari zone where visitors can observe various animals up close. The park offers the option to drive through in your own vehicle or hop on the Lion Bus for a leisurely exploration. With over 700 animals from about 70 African species, including lions, giraffes, and elephants, it's an adventure suitable for both children and adults. Additionally, the park boasts amusement facilities such as roller coasters and hosts popular themed events.
The safari park is really fun. You have the choice of driving your own vehicle or taking the animal busses. The animals get right up and you can feed them. It was a great fun to see and touch the animals directly. Besides the vehicles, you can also walk to side of the enclosures and feed the animals as well. Although you have to attract them towards you with your own abilities. Which was actually half of the fun! It gets a little pricey to keep buying the animal feed, but treat it as a worthwhile experience. Try to go on a weekday to avoid the crowds. That way, you really get to take your time and have fun.
Gary P — Google review
we really enjoyed this experience. We came with rental car. Better driving ourselves instead of taking the park bus is that we could explore at our own pace while observing and feeding the animals. There are many different types of animals to feed, and getting up close to them is a fantastic experience for both children and elderly people👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Neoh R — Google review
Interacting with animals has always been a special moment for me. But after more than two decades of traveling in Japan, I have yet to visit a place where captive animals seem genuinely happy and fairly treated (zoo, cat cafe, pet shop). Perhaps I have a biased western point of view and I am sure that workers at those parks love taking care of their animals. Nevertheless, the overall experience is often a let down. Sadly the Nasu Safari Park doesn't deviate much from that fact. The theme park aspect is great, the souvenir shop is huge and the staff is super friendly. You can access the safari tour with your own vehicle, with a rental car provided on site (recommended) or by funny buses designed as animals. There is also a restaurant but it was closed so I can't speak of the food. The real downside is that the tour is timed and since all the vehicles are following each other, there's almost no time to stop to take pictures or simply watch. On the animal side, the safari offers lions, giraffes, antelopes, bisons and such. But most weren't too lively aside from the ruminants that stick their tonge onto your car hoping to receive treats that you can buy at the ticket counter. That was kind of funny. However some seemed really depressed like the tiger at the entrance who went around in circles or the birds at the petting zoo in their minuscule cages. A little bit heartbraking. Anyway, if you're passing nearby, you can go and judge by yourself. If you have kids they'll probably love it!
Michael C — Google review
There’s a little discount when you buy tickets from the hotel. We chose to self drive with our own car. As it was low season, we were able to go super slowly and interact with all the animals without cars behind us. Do purchase the feed for an ultra fun experience. Beware of the alpaca! It spat into the car and spit was all over my face. It was a brown alpaca haha May pay a little sum to wash the car at the end! We love the experience.
Cheryn — Google review
We get to feed wild animals. It was a great experience. The donkey was very funny. I recommend renting the safari car.
Y C — Google review
A great place to get up close, and really see the animals. Entry was a little expensive, 2 adults plus bus fee was 7800 yen. They sell animal biscuits for another 1000 yen. You can take your own car, chartered bus, or special bus through the park. It was great to see all the animals in such a short distance. We took the guided bus, which was the perfect speed to enjoy looking at, and feeding all of the animals. The bus driver aso gives information about the different animals. The restaurant was also really good, but amazingly crowded. Even going for lunch during off hours, there was over an hour wait. There's a small petting zoo with rabbits, goats, sheep, and llamas. Overall, it's well worth the cost to go at least once.
Sonya S — Google review
Nice place to come with family. We rented a car at the park. Some people were driving their cars in the park and just thought that was dumb. Especially when the donkeys come and start chewing off your side view mirror. It was a a little small in my opinion. But it was fun we got to feed the giraffes and the elephants and many deer. If you can you should check it out just once. Plan on spending about an hour here
Andy H — Google review
One time is enough, but still fun experience! If you bring your pets, you need to leave your pet in the cage near the gate. You can rent a car to drive through or you can bring your own car. You can feed animals for ¥1000.

The Momijidani Suspension Bridge, located in Shiobara Onsen Village, is a popular tourist spot and one of the longest suspension bridges in Japan. It spans 320 meters over a river and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and lake. The bridge is particularly beautiful during the autumn season when the leaves turn golden, making it a popular spot for proposals. Visitors can enjoy the gentle sway of the bridge as they walk across, giving them a feeling of floating in the air.
We went in Autumn season which the leaves haven’t changed color much yet. The weather is still not too cold. The ticket for walking on bridge is around 300 jpy / person. The view is very beautiful and the weather is nice and the air is clean. Good place to visit not only in Autumn but the other is also nice to visit.
Piraya M — Google review
We visited early on the morning of Sunday, November 17th, during the fall foliage season. The news had reported that this weekend was ideal for viewing the leaves, and by the time we were leaving, there was a line of about 50 cars outside the parking lot. The autumn colors were visible around the large suspension bridge. Although this year's foliage season was quite late, it seemed that all the visitors were enjoying themselves.
ITokyoTravel-iTokyoDrive T — Google review
It was a nice little spot for a quick photo. We didn’t actually cross the bridge, but ended up spending more time at the nearby local shop instead. It was clean, well-organized, and had a great selection of local products.
Chayoot V — Google review
Require a ticket to walk the bridge. In spring, you can still see the cherry blossoms. The view is stunning as you walk across the bridge.
Neo C — Google review
A less known tourist spot but worth the experience. Neatly nestled in the Shiobara valley and prefectural forest, off season is the best time to visit if you want this place for yourself. Supposedly it is famous for marriage proposals. And its easy to understand why - because if the partner says yes, one would feel like settling down in the valley & if the partner says no, one would feel like living the life of a recluse in the valley.
Nikhil M — Google review
The time I was there was not the right time to watch the red leaf. Other than the red leaf there is nothing special as the road station. To cross the bridge is not so expensive and certain exercises can be done.
Comfortably N — Google review
To cross the bridge you have to buy a ticket, around ¥300. Nice place to enjoy the Autumn leaves. Crowed in season. Free parking with several shops around. When the free parking is full, ¥100 parking also available.
Chaminda M — Google review
A must visit place if you go to Nasu. It’s beautiful during autumn and picturesque..!! The length of the bridge is 320 metres, is the largest pier-less suspension bridge in Japan. Magnificent views of the Shiobara valley can be seen from the bridge. In autumn, the bridge commands enchanting views of the foliage reflected on the lake. Officially listed as a “Sacred Place for Lovers”.

Nestled in the picturesque Shiobara valley, Hunter Mountain Shiobara is a delightful ski resort that caters to all skill levels. With 12 diverse courses, it’s an ideal destination for both novice and seasoned skiers looking to hit the slopes or try their hand at snowboarding. Families will appreciate the dedicated Kids Park and Hantama Hiroba, ensuring younger visitors have plenty of fun with sledding and tubing options.
A fantastic ski facility with plenty of space to zoom down the slopes without getting stuck in a human traffic jam. The runs are well-maintained, so you can focus on having fun instead of dodging snowplows (or other skiers). Whether you’re a pro or just trying not to face-plant, there’s something for everyone. The vibe is super laid-back—no one’s judging your form, even if your style looks more “flailing octopus” than graceful skier. Definitely recommend for a fun day on the mountain with minimal drama!

Honestly 1st time going here. Twas really lovely but having your own board set would be very helpful. It’s so expensive. Since the place was huge too the staff wasn’t really hands on. They did was required and that’s it. I would only go back if I get my own board set. The information house section was probably the most helpful. Was able to get some souvenirs at the end. Nice snow time though.

Probably a great place to visit during Ski season, but we went to see the Autumn leaves change, and only a little change had occurred. So we decided to take the gondola ride all the way up to the top of the mountain to check out the scenery up there. Upon arriving at the top we were surprised to find out that the viewing area was very small and the view wasn't that good. The best view was located on the other side of the mountain which required you to walk on a wooden walkway with no side railings. In my opinion the walkway was quite dangerous. People walking on their going both ways and some of the areas on the walkway had steep drop offs. So in other words if you made a mistake and fell off of the walkway you were going to be in for a long tumbled down the side of the mountain. The walkway had stairs going up and down, and mats placed on the floor, but nothing to hold on to as you were walking. Hopefully they will fix this problem in the future. Apparently The view when you finish the walk up to the final part of the mountain was supposed to be beautiful, but I never made it that far because I felt it was too dangerous. Maybe my rating will change in the future if I can visit here again during ski season.

Charging for parking on weekends at this ski resort feels quite unreasonable, especially when you’re already paying for the lift tickets, rentals, and other expenses. ¥1000 for parking on top of everything else is disappointing, particularly when larger and better ski resorts often include parking for free. They really should reconsider this policy or at least reduce the fee to something more reasonable, like ¥300 or ¥500. When we visited, the snow wasn’t in great condition—it was hard and not fresh, which made skiing less enjoyable. To add to that, the lift lines were overcrowded, likely because so many people from Tokyo seem to flock here on weekends. It was more chaotic than relaxing. If you’re planning a trip, I’d recommend considering other ski resorts, like Inawashiro, which offer a better overall experience. This resort has potential, but between the parking charges, the snow quality, and the crowds, it falls short of expectations.

The facilities and food are amazing there are a wide range of things available. You get good rental gear for both skiing and snowboarding. There is a free bus from nasu shiobara station to the mountains and back, you just need to pre book them.

Skiing in the spring season (mid April) is totally different from the winter months. Not only it is less crowded, it is not as chilling as it is in the winter months.

This place has a lot of beginners because most of the pistes are not steep, even those black advanced ones from the peak have only 20 degree on average. It is very crowded during the weekend especially for lunch time 1100-1400. Car parking on weekend costs 1000 yen but free during the weekday

I was pleasantly surprised by how fun and beautiful this place was - initially I was skeptical but it’s actually really charming and the display is meticulously crafted. We enjoyed the Totoro display showing with many good photo spots.

We visited on Christmas Eve. The cafe is beautiful and very picturesque, we ordered tea and cakes and our little one sat next to a teddy bear. After we went into the museum and around the 1st was all the old teddy bears in different setups, themes, and more, it was lovely! The 2nd floor was dedicated to Totoro and our little one had a run around the room. There was an elevator for our pushchair so that was great.

Nestled in the foothills of Nasu, Mt. Chausu offers a range of walking trails and trekking routes suitable for all levels of hikers. The area is also home to the Nasu Yuzen Shrine, dedicated to the god of onsen, making it a pilgrimage site for hot spring enthusiasts. Visitors can take the scenic Nasu Ropeway to reach the 9th summit of Mount Chausu at 1915 meters, offering breathtaking views.
We took the ropeway right next to the bus stop to the top of the mountain. However, to get to the summit from the ropeway station where we arrived, we had to go the hard way. Some of the others gave up on the way to the summit. In short, we enjoyed our little adventure! The views at the summit are quite spectacular. We then descended the mountain from a different direction than the ropeway station. The variety of trails convinced us that it's worth climbing this mountain again and again!

(Translated by Google) September 22, 2025 This was my second visit. The leaves hadn't started to change color yet. It was a weekday, but the parking lot was crowded, probably because the two days before and after were closed. The parking lot guard was working hard. Thank you, guard! The parking lot on the way to the ropeway was empty, but if you don't arrive by 8:00, you'll probably have to wait for a spot. The round-trip ropeway ride costs 1,800 yen and takes about 10 minutes. You can save about 200 yen with an electronic ticket. It was 13°C at the summit, so it's cold in short sleeves. Even if it's hot down below, I recommend bringing a hoodie. The trail is mostly rocky, so sunglasses and a hat are a good idea. According to YAMAP, bears are common, so if you're hiking, it's a good idea to bring a bear bell and spray. There are no mountain huts, toilets, or vending machines along the way. You can get ready at the ropeway station! It takes less than an hour to reach the summit by ropeway. It's an easy climb, but the views are pretty good. The alpine plants are also beautiful. The farm takes pride in its culinary offerings, including soft serve ice cream, peroshiki pastry, homemade hamburgers, and grilled lamb. Nestled in the Nasu Highlands at the base of the Nasu Mountains, Sessho-Seki, also known as the Killing Stone, is a legendary boulder with a dark mythological tale. According to Japanese folklore, this large rock is believed to emit deadly fumes and is associated with the legend of Tamamo-no-Mae, a nine-tailed fox spirit.
A cool spot for a quick side trip if you’re in Nasu. There’s no entrance fee, and not a ton to see if you’re expecting something spectacular, but the stones are interesting, and the history makes it more fun. There are signs explaining the legend, which are worth reading! You can really smell the strong onsen scent in the area. There’s also a path leading up the mountain to a temple (I think), but I didn’t go up since it was too cold. 🥶😅 Worth a visit if you’re nearby and into legends and history!

The cafe offers an amazing atmosphere with themed rooms, catering to solo and group customers. While the food selection may be limited, the delicious coffee and light meals make it worth a visit. Visitors highly recommend trying their scones, which are described as some of the best ever tasted.
This is a highly recommended local cafe. The atmosphere alone is amazing and I love how all the rooms each have their own theme. There's plenty of seats for solo and group customers. We normally take seats upstairs so I'm not sure about wheelchair accessibility. There's a couple car parks outsider to choose from too. Food and drinks have always been spot on, and the service is great. Just come here; it's guaranteed to be a relaxing time.

Up until my visit to Shozo, I’d only ever had Japanese milk tea from a bottle or can purchased from the convenience store or vending machine. After having the milk tea here, I don’t think I can fully enjoy the bottles and cans anymore. My tea appeared to have been made with frothed milk, making the beverage so smooth and velvety. Sublime. I also purchased a brownie from the shop downstairs. It looked better than it tasted, though. While it was fudgy, I felt that the chocolate flavour didn’t have enough depth to it. I wouldn’t get it again, but the milk tea is memorable and worthy of a repeat order should I visit the area in the future.

Genzankutsu is a limestone cave located near the center of Shiobara, Japan. It is known as the place where Minamoto no Aritsune sought refuge after escaping from a rival army. The cave features exhibits depicting how Aritsune lived in the underground tunnels. Visitors can enjoy a picture-story show before entering the cave to understand its historical background better. The narrow and dimly lit interior requires caution while exploring.
We ended up in the area sort of accidentally, and, looking for things to do, we found this. The cave itself is neat, but not the most remarkable. However, the ticket lady presented us a super cute kamishibai (in japanese), and the attached museum, while tiny, has a wealth of cool historical artifacts from the last few hundred years. For the very reasonable price of... 5-600? JPY, this was a great experience. The gift shop has more of note than one might otherwise expect as well (including framed photos of the mascot cat that hangs out in the ticket office :3). They had a little english-translated printout of their guide pamphlet.

On a weekday morning in early March, without a prior reservation, an individual visited the farm "Ichigo no Mori" in Nasu Kogen. Upon asking the receptionist for recommendations, they were suggested to try Tochiaika strawberries. Although priced at 2400 yen per person, the strawberries turned out to be perfectly ripe and incredibly delicious. The sweet taste of strawberry jam made from these berries was delightful enough to be used in making strawberry sherbet.

When I asked the guy at the reception desk, he recommended Tochiaika, so I had Tochiaika for the first time in my life. Is the price a bit high at 2400 yen per person? Would it have been better to go with the cheaper Tochiotome? I thought so, but when I tried it, it was full of seasoned strawberries and it was amazing! It was so sweet that you could make strawberry jam or strawberry sorbet with just the strawberries! There were two other groups of customers when we arrived, but as time passed, when both groups left the house, it became private, so there were always one or two groups. It was like that (Original)

(Translated by Google) I wanted to eat the much-talked-about "Tochiaika" freshly picked, so I decided to try strawberry picking for the first time in my life. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, I will be picking strawberries with gloves on. When I went to the designated house, there was no one there and it was reserved for private use. There are many ridges, and there are many fruits ranging from ripe ones that are red to those that are still white. You may want to rush because it only takes 30 minutes, but the strawberries will make you feel full. So, I'm going to aim for a red one with a slightly blackish tinge. Another criterion for selection is that the leaves are standing. The taste was different on both sides of the ridge, so I thoroughly enjoyed it while walking. When a large number of people come, I think they will take away the delicious food, so I recommend you to aim for the opening time at 9 o'clock (^^) (Original)

Tobu World Square is an outdoor theme park featuring 1:25 scale models of iconic buildings from around the world. Visitors can explore replicas of architectural wonders from America, Asia, Egypt, Europe, and Japan, including the Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, Great Sphinx of Giza, Duomo di Milano, Tokyo Skytree, and Saint Basils Cathedral. The park offers guided tours and has various eateries for visitors to enjoy.
I really enjoyed visiting here for the first time. It’s a different kind of trip when you would like to see famous miniatures from different countries. I was amazed by how they did those miniatures so interesting and incredible. Just bring umbrella for when it is too hot they don’t have much shades there. But they have few restaurants inside and outside the area. With Family and friends can enjoy!
Andrea F — Google review
These magnificent buildings are so exceptional that, allegedly, even the originals imitate them. The first half features well-known landmarks everyone recognizes, while the latter half showcases Japan's renowned architecture. With the right photography skills, you can capture images that truly feel like you're traveling there in person. It's extremely hot in summer, so you should be sure to take thorough precautions against heatstroke. There are cafes and rest areas along the way.

This little park is HUGE value for money- you get to learn about man-made structures from all around the world and across history, for such a small price! Definitely much bigger than I thought, there's lots to see and do! The attention to detail is lovely. Also, if you have a Nikko Pass, show it at the ticket gate to receive a huge discount!
Jessica A — Google review
We finally made it here! The place is made up of all the famous places in the world! There were tons from Japan tho. You can buy the ticket online as well for less hassle. We bought our ticket at Klook and change it for the physical ticket at Tourist Center. The place is not the large tho and you can tour the place at least for 2 hours. They also have some restaurant inside so you can also check them. The details of this miniature places were so amazing. Definitely worth seeing! It is recommended for adult and children. Overall, we rated it as 5 star for the experience!

We visited Tobu World Square in July 2025. The ticket price is 2800円, but if you have the Nikko Pass, you can get a discount of 1000円. It is expensive, but I think the price is worthwhile. It took us about 3 hours to visit the park, but we had to rush a little at the end through the Asia and traditional Japan sections. I learned that the ticket is all day, so you can visit in the morning and then come back after dark to see the illuminations. The park showcases famous places from around the world, including Japan, all at 1/25 scale, which makes it easy to compare them. There are over 140,000 miniature people, with some hidden famous characters or movie scenes. For me, the most stunning part of the exhibits are the roughly 20,000 bonsai trees which change with the seasons. If you visit in the summer, please note there is little tree cover, so bring an umbrella and other sun protection. There are taps to fill up a water bottle. There are coin lockers before and after the ticket gates. At the entrance of the exhibits there is a sphere which plays music with animatronic characters every 10, 30, and 50 minutes after the hour, it’s very cute. Some exhibits require a 100円 coin to play an optional animation. There are snack counters, small restaurants, and souvenir shops on site. I loved being able to buy foreign alcohol such as German beer or French cidre. It is very dog friendly with strollers that can be rented, places to wash your dog, or little podiums for photos. We don’t have a dog, but all the dogs made the experience even more fun!

Tobu World Square is an absolutely amazing place to visit in Japan! The detailed miniatures of famous landmarks from around the world are truly impressive and beautifully crafted. It's like traveling the globe in just a few hours. The park is clean, well-organized, and educational too. Perfect for families, tourists, or anyone who appreciates art, culture, and architecture. Highly recommend adding this to your Japan travel bucket list!

Tobu World Square is a theme park dedicated to miniature replicas of famous landmarks around the world, and in Japan. It was very cool seeing the New York skyline before 9/11, as well as many famous spots around Japan like the Kiyo Mizudera and Itsukushima Shrine. Entry for adults is 2800 yen. This is a great spot if you enjoy architecture, miniature models, traveling, history, photography, or famous landmarks. This theme park is easily accessible from Asakusa and Nikko. From Asakusa, you can take the Revaty or Spacia X limited express which stops at Tobu World Square Station. You can also get to Tobu World Square from Nikko by taking the Nikko Line to Shimo-Imaichi Station, then transferring to the Nikko Kinugawa Line. Very convenient For children, I think they will enjoy the various shops and restaurants, as well as the little displays. As an adult, I had a great time admiring the architecture. It was amusing seeing the Twin Towers, Tokyo Skytree, and Eiffel Tower right behind the London Bridge. You can get some really confusing and funny pictures. There are about 100 exhibits so plan to spend at least an hour and a half to three hours. This place closes at 5 PM on weekdays and 6PM on certain days. It is pretty off the beaten path, and you will likely not face large crowds if you come in the afternoon. When I went, I had almost the whole park to myself.
ItzMe — Google review
The number of miniature buildings was way beyond my expectations, there were so many of them. What surprised me even more was how well the miniatures blended with the surrounding mountain scenery. It made everything feel more immersive and almost realistic. A really pleasant surprise.

Nasu Rindoko Lake View Family Ranch is a leisure facility located around the picturesque Rindo Lake in Nasu Highlands. It offers a wide range of attractions and activities, including animal encounters at the petting zoo with alpacas and Jersey cows, thrilling rides such as the KAKKU zip-line that glides over the lake, and boat rides. Visitors can also enjoy making butter and explore various shopping and dining options.
Its a good place with lot of attractions. Adult price is 4900¥ for including all rides. Just for entry and separate tickets per ride you have to pay 1600¥. Must do is the Go Cart

Is OK, installations are a bit rundown, sleeping on the lake in summer at night is too cold day is too hot, tent have only one layer, Alpaca tents are better, distances from tent to toilet a bit long. Kids enjoyed.

Good for small kids. Big park. You can feed some animals like alpacas and some faem animals. We love the ATV dinosaur adventure though it will take 30 mins wait.
Y C — Google review
As I got the free admission tickets for the fireworks, we went there together with my grandson. We arrived about one hour earlier than the starting time, but my grandson very enjoyed the amusement facilities which are very traditional one. As long as grandson is happy no complaints at all. But it might be a different story if we go there earlier as the sun was down already when we were there. Fireworks lasted 30 minutes and can be enjoyable enough.

I highly recommend the 🦕 Dinosaur Adventure attraction at the park. The animatronics and arrangement of the dinos makes the walk with the dinosaurs very realistic. So much so that my little boy needed to be held the whole time because of the realism of the robotic dinosaurs 🦖. The park cost ¥1600/ adult to get in and the Dinosaur Adventure is another ¥600 per adult. This park also has a petting farm where you can pet and feed goats, alpacas 🦙, ponies and milk 🐄 cows. Throughout the day you can pay to milk a cow or bottle feed a calf. A great place to spend the day with your kids.

This theme park seems nice if you have kids but if you do not there is not a lot to do. The theme park entry fee is quite expensive and you have to pay 1000 yen for parking at the park. For the cost of entry there is not a lot to do. There are some animals you can see and interact with, some rides for kids, and some restaurants. This place is dog friendly. Staff is friendly.

Nice place but the never-ending happy music loop makes me want to exit and never come back. Either that or kill myself. If they had paused the music every once in a while I might be able to stay sane. They have the pool open during the summer but the water was slightly cold and the duck toys were not clean. Do not recommend for babies who are still eating everything.

Senbonmatsu Farm offers free entry and parking, making it a relatively inexpensive outing for adults. The farm features a petting zoo with a variety of animals and a large corn maze that takes over 30 minutes to complete. Visitors can also enjoy the quiet forested area and check out the horses on this beautiful ranch. Additionally, there are carnival games and attractions for kids, as well as an on-site restaurant offering unlimited bread, milk, and yogurt.
We spent about an hour walking around and shopping at Senbonmatsu Farm. The shop had a nice variety of dairy products, and everything looked fresh and locally made. One of the highlights was the beautiful path lined with sakura trees—perfect for a peaceful stroll. We didn’t have time to try out the other activities since we had to check in at our hotel, and although we planned to come back, we didn’t get the chance.

This place is truly a paradise for dog owners. It boasts a spacious area with a dog run available for a fee. When I visited on a weekday afternoon, there were many pet owners from both in and out of the prefecture, evident from the variety of license plates in the parking lot. While it seems less known among international tourists, this hidden gem is a fantastic spot to experience the charm and nature of Japan, particularly in Nasu. Having traveled extensively, I found this location exceptionally memorable. Especially during the cherry blossom season, it offers a serene escape from the crowded spots in Tokyo, allowing you to enjoy the blooms at your leisure. The facility also includes restaurants and snack options like ice cream stands, as well as areas where you can interact with animals. It’s rich in variety and perfect not just for those with dogs but for families too. I highly recommend a visit!

The Fujishiro Seiji Museum features an impressive display of "Kiri-e" cut-out art, showcasing silhouettes and stained-glass windows set in a lush environment. The museum houses the works of artist Seiji Fujishiro, who creates stunning shadow paintings known as "kage-e." Visitors can view his initial pieces to more recent work related to Japan's 2011 earthquake.
I was in Nasu Highland on 1 March, and one of my travel buddies recommended visiting this art museum. The entrance fee was ¥2000 per pax, and you are not allowed to take photographs inside the exhibition hall. I now strongly recommend visiting this art misum after seeing it.

The shrine features photogenic torii gates and follows proper Japanese temple etiquette.
Fantastic « small » temple, the path makes you feel the spirits of the forest. It is an enchanted place where you can start with a foot bath (hot : almost 70 degrees) with the water from the natural source Up next to the temple, a great view on the valley A must do in the Nasu area

Beautiful waterfalls that you touch on the route like in fairy tales. A beautiful forest along a clear stream. You have to climb the stairs mainly at first. Time passes slowly and the scenery and air are beautiful. People who bring their dogs can enjoy it without any hesitation. There are certainly not many flowers, but the sky is wide and you can see them one by one. I think it's really beautiful when the seasonal flowers are in full bloom. The road is unpaved and has many slopes, so be careful when using a wheelchair or dog buggy. If you are an elderly person, it is better to go down the slope slowly and ask for help from your family. There are benches here and there where you can rest if you get tired. It's good to see flowers and enjoy the scenery. I don't know why, but I want to go there once every few years. It was such a wonderful space. I would like to continue to grow beautiful flowers and show them to you. Mikaeri Falls, a stunning natural wonder nestled in the Shiobara region, is renowned for its breathtaking beauty and captivating surroundings. This area boasts over 100 waterfalls, with Mikaeri Falls standing out as the most impressive among the 'Shiobara Ten Falls.' The falls earned their name because travelers often find themselves pausing to admire the view before continuing on their journey.
You can enjoy the wildness and the view of hoki river and mikaeri falls, also you can enjoy the walking through the suspension bridge

(Translated by Google) I arrived before 6am There are two stairs to go down, a steep staircase and a smooth staircase. I went down by the sliding stairs. Is it because it's morning? The suspension bridge didn't have any special features and it was a beautiful scenery. eagle? hawk? was on the railing of the bridge, and I felt like I was in the middle of a mountain. I was so tired from the steep stairs on my way home. If you are confident in your legs and hips, go for it. (Translated by Google) There are two courses to get down to the suspension bridge. Gentle course and steep course The gentle course is an old road that is detoured and not well maintained. The handrails were rotten and it was surprisingly difficult to walk on. The steep course descends all at once to a stream, so it's quite steep, but I felt safer on this route as it had solid iron pipe handrails and paved steps under my feet. Free parking. Waterfalls and suspension bridges are also free. There is a toilet in the parking lot. I want to come during the autumn leaves season! Although the drop is steep, it only takes about 20 minutes round trip to reach the Meiji no Taki Observation Deck, so it's not too tiring. Compared to the Great Suspension Bridge, this one has a more natural scenery, and best of all, it's free. I went during a gust of wind, so the bridge was shaking and it was quite a thrill. However, it seems safe to carry 360 people, so don't worry. (Translated by Google) We went on the last day of the Obon holiday. There were hardly any people there. The views were amazing!!! <<<<<But it was pretty tough getting there! >>>>>> First of all, the winding mountain slope to the parking lot was steeper than I expected. From there, it was a brisk 15-minute adult walk to the entrance to the marsh. Recently, there have been bear sightings in Nasu-Shiobara, so there were concerns about bears. The path from the parking lot to the marsh required pushing our way through quite a bit of overgrown grass and trees, which was quite challenging, and even the bears were scary. I highly recommend going with as many people as possible and bringing bear bells and other bear protection gear. Also, since it rained until morning, there were some muddy spots. The worst part was right after leaving the parking lot. Your shoes will seriously get dirty there, so be sure to check the weather the day before! Also, there are some areas along the way where there is a lot of grass, so it's best not to go on short notice. However, once you overcome these difficulties, a beautiful view unfolds before you! Be sure to prepare and be careful! Kotarogafuchi is a charming old tea house nestled deep in the forest, next to a river where visitors can enjoy Japanese-style sweets while sitting by the water. Accessible by car, it offers a serene escape with the soothing sounds of nature. The entrance is via an unpaved mountain road, so caution is advised for larger or low vehicles. The menu features delicious kusa mochi dumplings made with anko and cinchona flour, best enjoyed with tea.

(Translated by Google) It's a nice place, but if you come by family car or luxury car on the narrow mountain gravel road, it's hard to pass each other and there's a lot of traffic. Even during the tourist season, wouldn't it be better for the store to have someone standing at the entrance (maybe a security guard) and restricting the number of cars entering when the store is full? I'm scared that my car will fall off a cliff. The parking lot fills up quickly, and if you don't stop, you have to park on the side of the road, which causes another traffic jam. I don't know what jurisdiction (prefecture, country, store, etc.) it will be in, but if the store says it's open from and until what time, and everyone comes there, I wonder if this place is the store's. (Translated by Google) 2025.1.2 (Thu) I was wondering what it would be like to have a director with such a strong personality, but personally, it wasn't that bad, and I felt relieved, or disappointed, or something strange. Each person can choose one song from the jukebox. I heard it for the first time and it was very good. The buttons also feel good when pressed. If there are a lot of people, you might not be able to choose, but luckily it doesn't seem to be very crowded here, so it might be a good option. The jukebox still worked, so I was able to listen to a few songs. As mentioned in the reviews, the director likes to talk, so I thought this response would be controversial. A movie about the 1964 Tokyo Olympics was being shown, and it was quite worth watching. I thought it would resonate with those born and raised in the Showa era, as something nostalgic, and as something new for those raised in the Heisei and Reiwa eras. Even though it was 11:00 on a weekday, there was a Nissan Cedric on display and one tourist car, and the exterior looked like a treasure museum, so I was worried because I was there with my child. As soon as we entered the museum, a couple who had been there before us were taken aback by the museum director and were put on a rickshaw and had their photo taken. I didn't know the route, so I was looking around, and the director suddenly came over and told me to wait for him because he's going to explain it to me. If you're still looking in another direction, please listen to the explanation! I was told the route and precautions for the tour, and then I said, ``Let's go!'' The tour started with a reception that lived up to the previous reputation. However, the exhibits are in very good condition, showing how it was during the Showa era. All of them were interesting, and the children enjoyed watching them as well. Also, the black-and-white version of the Tokyo Olympics was being shown, and I watched it all the way through. When I returned to the first lobby after watching for about 30 minutes, the director was waiting for me and told my child to get on this rickshaw so I could take a photo with him! My adolescent child was forced to succumb to the director's pressure and take advantage of the director's pressure, and his expression seemed strange. lol. Even better, I'll take a picture of the old man with me, and then I'll ride next to him too! Give me your cell phone! They also kindly took pictures of the parents and their children. He took a few shots with me in another car, and after the exciting photo session, I was released. There was a fireplace, so you could walk close to it and enjoy the warmth with your kids. It's not firewood, so I wonder how it's going to catch fire. When we were talking about this, the curator said, ``This must be a pellet stove!'' Don't you even know that? My father is fine. I was provoked... On your way home, the museum director will give you advice on what to do next, so be careful! Was he pushed back and left? Sent out. Personally, I don't see many people these days who suddenly approach me at such a hostile distance when I see them for the first time, so it was a really fun time where I had to hold back my laughter, but the kids were like, ``That's scary...'' I was grumbling. lol. It was a Showa museum, including exhibits from the Showa era and the museum director, who looked like a stubborn old man from the neighborhood who scolded me when I was a kid! It was a wonderful different space! I think this is a good spot for couples to gauge the man's responsiveness!

Nestled in a serene forest, Oshiraji Falls is a charming small waterfall that captivates visitors with its stunning bright-blue lagoon. Just a quick five-minute drive from the Yama-no-Eki Takahara tourist information center towards Nasu-Shiobara leads you to an inviting footpath that takes another five minutes to traverse. The enchanting view features crystal-clear waters harmonizing beautifully with lush green mountains and sunlight filtering through the trees, creating an idyllic atmosphere.
We went there after 2 days of rain! The trail still had snow… so it was a bit dicey walking there. The steps were cascades themselves. Only viewed the falls from a high point…. But my gosh it was breathtaking. Sooooo much water!

(Translated by Google) I visited after several days of continuous rain. I was able to see the magical waterfall with a solid amount of water. My only regret, however, was that the color of the basin wasn't the expected "Oshiraji blue," probably because the sun wasn't shining. The path to the waterfall is full of tree roots, and since it had just rained, it was slippery. Although the distance is short, hiking boots or trekking shoes are recommended. Even people wearing sneakers seemed to have a hard time walking.

Tucked away at the end of an unpaved road, Cafe Yumeya feels like a secret you’re lucky to stumble upon—a reformed kominka where time slows and coffee tastes better. We visited just before check-in at a nearby ryokan, and while the final stretch of the drive was a little bumpy, it only added to the sense of arrival. Ample parking greeted us, and stepping into the cozy, wood-framed space felt like walking into a lovingly restored piece of rural Japan. Warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully curated, it’s a space that invites you to linger. We shared two galettes—crispy, savory, and beautifully balanced—and paired them with freshly brewed coffee. A gentle hush filled the room, broken only by the soft clinking of cups and the laughter of a few families. Toys in the corner signaled a family-friendly atmosphere, and ceramic artworks displayed for sale added an extra layer of charm. Even the trip to the restroom was its own whimsical detour—a small outdoor path leading past what looked like the river, only to reveal a hidden room tucked away behind the building. Service was kind, the surroundings serene, and the entire experience felt like a well-kept secret meant to be shared just once—with someone special. 【Features】 🚘 Parking: Available in front of the cafe 🍽️ Order: Galettes & Coffee 🚻 Toilet outside the establishment 🧸 Family-friendly: Toys available for children 🖼️ Art for sale: Handcrafted ceramics inside 💰 Payment: 📲💴Cash or Mobile Payment (PayPay) 🔙 Would I visit again? 💓Definitely

The owner has a cat, and the cat sometimes pops out. It's run by a family, so it has a homey atmosphere. You can eat crispy, fresh 🥒🍅🥕 vegetables with a raw vegetable salad. You can't often find crispy vegetable salads in restaurants in Tokyo. On this day, we had the seasonal galette (ratatouille) and fried chicken. Ratatouille is delicious as it is, but when you eat it on top of the galette, the synergistic effect with the buckwheat flour makes it even more delicious. The fried chicken was fried to perfection. The crunchy batter had a nice texture 😃 When you eat fried chicken in Tokyo, depending on the store, the oil has soaked into the batter and you can only taste the oil, but this one was well-cooked and delicious. When you visit, you will have to turn down an unpaved side road, but don't worry, you will get there. It's best to pay in cash. Update (August 2021): Recently opened up the rice bag we got during our visit two months ago and IT HAD BUGS!!! 😫😫😫 lots of lively black bugs writhing with cocoons on the sides of the bag. This should not happen. It was quite disgusting. Be careful of buying rice here. Former post from June 2021: Good area to get some veggies and plants! We entered during the botan matsuri, when there was an entrance fee of 500 yen. Immediately felt it was worth the price, as we received tea and Japanese sweets as a service. We enjoyed the sweets while watching the temple from the garden. Afterward, we walked up a small mountain at the back of the graveyard, which was a great experience. It was quiet and the air was refreshing, and at the end, there was a bell you could ring. In the graveyard, the peonies were in bloom. Additionally, we ran into a large troop of wild monkeys, that were eating fresh flowers from the graves. The monkeys were not afraid of people and you could see them at a very close distance. We also saw a wild honey badger. The area itself is also very beautiful. Would absolutely recommend.

However, he was not good at war, and two of his own children were killed in the Russo-Japanese War under his command. At the ceremony, Tezuka Genki, the chief priest of Otawara Shrine, who later became the first chief priest of Nogi Shrine, proposed the founding of a shrine to enshrine the spirit of the Shogun as a god of earthly virtue, and with overwhelming support from those in attendance, the decision was made to establish the shrine. Sanbonyaridake is the highest peak in the Nasu Mountain Range, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Hiking trails lead to the summit, where hikers can find markers and enjoy panoramic vistas. The mountain range also includes other popular hiking destinations such as Mt. Chausu and Mt. Asahi. Thanks to the Nasu Ropeway and Gondola, it's possible to hike with minimal elevation gain.

Coming this far, it's a moving experience to realize just how close Nasu is to the Aizu and Koshi regions. Nasu is generally known for its strong winds, and the wind was particularly strong heading towards Mt. Sanbonyari from Asahi's Shoulder. The hike up to the summit involved repeated ups and downs, with many routes leading out into marshes or through thickly scrubbed areas, and there were also some muddy spots. The summit is flat and wide, making it a good place to take a break. On the way back, you can see Mt. Asahi and Mt. Chausu together, and on a clear day the views are spectacular. Hiking the Nasu Sanzan mountains is quite a long journey, but it's worth doing to improve your level or check your own. This time, instead of the previous group of four, I started alone at the foot of Chausu-dake. My route took me around Asahi-dake, over the 1900m peak, and through the shrublands beyond Kiyoharadaira. However, after walking along the ridge, I found myself walking a narrow trail with little elevation change but poor visibility due to the shrubs. Considering the course time, it was a bit tiring. Although the mountain has the word "yari" in its name, its body is extremely gentle and doesn't feel like a spear at all. So, as long as you're physically fit and experienced enough to get through the slightly scary Asahi-dake, I think even a perennial beginner like me or an elementary school student like me could easily reach the summit. Apparently, on clear days, there are spectacular views in nearly all directions, but the area north of Asahi-dake was cloudy the whole time, and even when I summited Sanbon-yari, the entire summit was shrouded in cloud and I couldn't see anything, which is a real shame. Brilliant park in the Nasushiobara area of Tochigi. Lots of things for kids to do, the only reason it loses a star is because some of the activities and facilities cost money. Such as the grass ski slopes that you can toboggan down or the (excellent) athletic playground in the center of the park. Also the latter is only accessible to children over 6 years of age although children of aged 4 up would be able for it with adult supervision. There is also free equipment in two playground areas. Parking is free and plentiful. There are outdoor pools in the summer. There is a really lovely campsite on one end of the park.

(Translated by Google) Kuroiso Shrine was founded in 1902 by Mr. Kanehiro Shibui, an old family member of Nasu, who donated the land to protect the area's guardian deity. At that time, the population of Nasu was increasing when the railway was opened, and it was built out of the enthusiasm of local people who wished for the development of Kuroiso and the safety of its people. Later, in 1964, the shrine building was destroyed by fire, but thanks to the efforts of the parishioners, it was rebuilt with reinforced concrete, and it still stands today. In 2001, the 100th anniversary of the shrine's founding, a shrine gate was erected as a commemoration. Since its founding, Kuroiso has been watching over the city, which became a key transportation hub after the opening of national highways and railways.
