Where to eat: the 40 best restaurants in Gwangju

This restaurant has been serving of Gwangju for over 11 years (probably longer). I love the palaak paneer, alu gobi, alu paratha especially, but everything else I've tried has been good. Well, the tandoori chicken tends to be a bit dry, however. Vegetarian options, of course, will make this a good spot for people with duetary restrictions. I have visited FIRST NEPAL multiple times. Each time I visited with a hope that may be last time I was unlucky to have bad preparation. Out of 7 times I was satisfied only once. If anyone is looking for recommendations for dish I would say SAMOSA and dal fry. Nan is okay. Anything else I could not like so far. I have tried pakora, paneer, chicken and mutton related preparations. Mutton I found worse among them. Kababs are dry too. However I like their hospitality, ambience ( songs take me back to something known), they also used to give Lassi (last 2 times they did not provide). I will keep going their with a hope of getting a good meal their and if I get lucky I will update you all. Sorry FIRST NEPAL for not being able to post a positive review. Hope this change soon.

I have been eating here since last two years. The one and only famous and affordable Indian restaurant in Gwangju. The food is always fresh. They serves extremely delicious Indian, asian and nepali food with excellent menus and lots of different alternatives. It is located in the bustling shopping area of downtown. The owner as well as staff is very kind and friendly, and provides an excellent service. The restaurant starts at 11.00 am and closes at 10.00 pm. There could be special menus for the lunch and set menus too, which could be beneficial for multiple peoples. I would like to recommend this restaurant if you are in gwangju.

This is a small but cosy little restaurant. Indian or Nepalese, not sure.The nan bread was tasty a little bit too dry. The samosa was crispy and hot. The rice was slightly warm. The curry dishes were too thick and creamy. Not a lot of meat in the dishes. These dishes are not authentic but I guess it will do, if you are desperately in need of curry.

The staff is Nepali,fought the owner is a Korean. A wide variety of menu and rates are also reasonable,though on the higher side for the students. We 3 of us ( one of us from Phillipines),ordered 4 tandoori roties,ooghobi,daal tanka and mutton biryani for the Phillipini. All th dishes were tasty,esp the daal and the Biryani was topped with dry fruits.Green salad and sweet Lassi was compli.entary and total bill came to 60 k Won.We could finish the stuff,sogot it packed. The 2 cooks and the lone lady waitress ,were cheerful and no demand for tip ( not a practice in korea). The ambience of rest. is OK,with a big pic of the Tajmahal. Recommended to have a break from daily layman( noodles) and baap(rice).

I have visited FIRST NEPAL multiple times. Each time I visited with a hope that may be last time I was unlucky to have bad preparation. Out of 7 times I was satisfied only once. If anyone is looking for recommendations for dish I would say SAMOSA and dal fry. Nan is okay. Anything else I could not like so far. I have tried pakora, paneer, chicken and mutton related preparations. Mutton I found worse among them. Kababs are dry too. However I like their hospitality, ambience ( songs take me back to something known), they also used to give Lassi (last 2 times they did not provide). I will keep going their with a hope of getting a good meal their and if I get lucky I will update you all. Sorry FIRST NEPAL for not being able to post a positive review. Hope this change soon.

I have been eating here since last two years. The one and only famous and affordable Indian restaurant in Gwangju. The food is always fresh. They serves extremely delicious Indian, asian and nepali food with excellent menus and lots of different alternatives. It is located in the bustling shopping area of downtown. The owner as well as staff is very kind and friendly, and provides an excellent service. The restaurant starts at 11.00 am and closes at 10.00 pm. There could be special menus for the lunch and set menus too, which could be beneficial for multiple peoples. I would like to recommend this restaurant if you are in gwangju.

This is a small but cosy little restaurant. Indian or Nepalese, not sure.The nan bread was tasty a little bit too dry. The samosa was crispy and hot. The rice was slightly warm. The curry dishes were too thick and creamy. Not a lot of meat in the dishes. These dishes are not authentic but I guess it will do, if you are desperately in need of curry.

I did learn recently that the chef likes to put the meat under the cheese to keep it from shrinking-- so lots of pepperoni, but it looks like a cheese pizza. You can request the meat to be cooked on top of the cheese, which I do for aesthetic reasons. They have various specials week by week which draw crowds, e.g. mac and cheese and beef stew, or desserts. This week, I snagged a piece of key lime pie which has been sold out the last several times I went. It was pleasantly zingy, with actual lime zest sprinked on top. For sandwiches, I always love the chicken bacon with guacamole. The pastrami reuben is a delight and a new favorite is the chicken fried chicken. I recently tried the grilled cheese with ham, and that was one of the best grilled cheese sandwhiches I've ever had. It is the cheapest sandwich on the menu, but it feels like enough food paired with a side. I did wish I had gotten a salad side instead of fries, though! Unless you're carb-loading, it's a lot of bread! Note on the sides: sides must be added seperately for additional cost, so expect to pay around 15,000 won for a sandwich with fries or onionrings. I believe there may be some set menus re-introduced in the future. In summary, a great treat for some decadent diner-style food. Very heavy on the bread, so watch your waist and your wallet if you go back too often. However, a taste of home with kind staff and good atmosphere. It doesn't dissapoint.
