Canmore Ski Village is a great spot for international visitors to unwind and chat about their day's adventures over drinks. The Den International Bar offers a solid food menu and an impressive selection of foreign beers, making it the perfect place to relax, watch sports, and exchange stories with fellow travelers. The ski resort features wide courses suitable for intermediate and advanced skiers as well as young children. Additionally, visitors can enjoy snowshoeing and cross-country skiing at the base of the mountain.
As a beginner, I preferred this over Furano. Affordable lift pass, ski rental and a restaurant with great food. Was a little busy with locals during the day but as soon as it hit 3pm we almost had the slope to ourselves.

Good price. Especially the night session which is 500 yen for 4 hours 4 pm - 8 pm. However, we found that the path got very icy at night which was too slippery for beginners. We asked for a refund as we did not take the ride, it was rejected. I think they could be more flexible on their policy.
Amy C — Google review
This resort is very reasonable, easy to access, has super fun walls and areas to ride and do tricks. There is also a wonderful hot spring adjacent to the slope. And the ticket prices are so cheap! The food wasn’t great but there are restaurants within a ten minute drive.

Feb 17,2024 our first time for ski. one by one coach lesson. Im sorry though i dont know my caoch’s name, but the one who is on the left side ( the elder one😅) though he didnt speak much english, but he used (immitate) way to taught and very easy to understand!❤️ we spent here for the whole day! though i fall badly during “speedo” yet having so fun.

Not overly crowded and cost is not too high like other tourist ski spots.
Kervin B — Google review
Solid little small-town ski hill. Limited off posted options, but very good on piste. Tasty and well presented priced restaurant. Cheap lift passes for Adults but passes for kids are expensive (compared to adults and can ski free at Furano)
Chris A — Google review
How extremely disappointing. We had checked the site many times before heading to Canmore Ski Village. But. Confident that it would be open, we drove an hour to get there. When we got there, however, it turned out that Canmore was only open for night skiing for the entire week (3/13-3/17). We spoke to the receptionist, and we told him that the website didn't have this information, and he told us that the information was displayed on a poster in the carpark (which is useless, since you wouldn't know until you got there...). We left extremely bewildered and confused, and we checked the site again after we left, at which point we noticed that the site was newly updated with information about the modified opening hours... We scoured the website again, just to make sure we didn't miss the news about modified opening hours by our own mistake. The information was modified opening hours was only available in an old blogpost from February, titled 'Cessation of Pairlift Operation'. I don't know what to say. I would go somewhere else, simply because this kind of thing is absolutely basic for any sort of business, let alone a ski resort.

Situated at an elevation of 1,100 meters on the western side of Mount Asahidake, Hokkaido's highest peak, the Asahidake Visitor Center is a crucial stop for those planning outdoor activities in the area. Whether you're interested in hiking, climbing (available from June to September), or winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, this center provides current information on trail conditions, bear sightings, and volcanic activity.
Even though the day I visited Asahidake was a great day to ski or snowboarding because of fresh snow everywhere but I was not a ski person. But I came to the right place. Here at the center one could learn so much about Daisetsuzan Mt Tokachi. History natural ecosystems etc. Also information about how one could prepare if planning to hike up there. They do offer snow gear for visitors.
Satsuki H — Google review
Highest mountain in Hokkaido. Went up for a winter hike. Also, very popular ski and snowboard destination with amazing powder. There’s a bus that runs from the city to the visitor center and a cable car up to the top. If you want to see the volcanic vents you’ll need to hike a bit, definitely worth it though. The weather was cloudy for me but still enjoyed it immensely. There’s also a restaurant on site, washrooms, and a little souvenir shop.
Jaro — Google review
We went up with the cable car. There’s a cable car every 10 minutes. Very enjoyable hike! Here’s the hiking map if you arrive on top. Round trip along the viewpoints takes around 60-90 minutes, including taking photos. Some sections were quite steep It’s not buggy-friendly, we brought a back carrier for our daughter.
Bastian A — Google review
An awesome mountain range with such a beautiful view and fantastic options of activities in all the seasons. We had booked in the hike in snow up to Asahidake trail with a guide who explained about what plants and animals around in different seasons. It's just fantastic to see the smoke of hotspring rising in between the snow cover area! The foot of the mountain is also full of newly bloomed flowers and birds!
Penny G — Google review
Really helpful and interesting centre. We visited in April but there was still so much snow and it was windy so the ropeway was closed. From the centre we hired cross-country skies (which we hadn’t done before!) and did the nearby courses, lots of fun and beautiful scenery. You can also hire snow boots. We hiked up to the top of ropeway from the centre to see Mt Asahidake. It took us 2hrs up in the snow (and less than 1hr down!). Worth it on a clear day especially if rope way is closed.
Jessica R — Google review
Beautiful building with informative displays. The staff is wonderful. We took a walk around the visitor center with Ken as our guide. He provided great information about the mountains and the plants and trees. It was great that they provided snow shoes and poles for us to use.
Pratyush J — Google review
We were disappointed about the amount of information we were able to get but this is probably our fault because we don't speak Japanese. As of July 1st there was no snow on the platform, or anywhere on the pond loop. Asahidake Peak looked doable without hiking boots. We did not have a good weather window to do the traverse, with 40 to 90% rain in the forecast. Need to return with hiking boots and rain pants. Would go super light from Asahikawa, and then make the traverse or not, stay overnight at hostel and then bus back at any of the trailheads,Sounyko. Takes three days to four days transfer luggage, so don't try one way unless you carry your kit.
Doug H — Google review
The center and the parking lot was empty except for us. The staff would not even say hello or ask if we needed any help. Otherwise the building and the exhibitions are nice.

Asahi-dake is the highest summit in Hokkaido, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Visitors can reach the 2,291m altitude via a 101-seater ropeway connecting Asahidake-sanroku Station at 1,100m and Sugatami Station. The area is known for its diverse terrain, with opportunities to hike around a pond or ascend to the peak of Mt. Asahi.
Very cool hike, a little challenging with great view along the way and especially at the top. I loved the worm wind wave you get from the volcano🌋 I really liked how the trail is well maintained and marked! But the ropeway to the starting point is expansive! 3500 yen
Raz D — Google review
Came to Asahidake in late Jul, so have missed the alpine flowers. The loop connecting all the observation decks could be easier completed leisurely in an hour, and the reflection of the mountains upon the pond was nice. From the 5th deck, went towards the summit, which would be about 2.7km. The beginning was relatively easier, with green pastures on each side. It started to drizzle, and the cool air was welcoming. The landscape changes to grey rocks, with steeper steps, and possibly the most difficult part of ascent. Then it changed to red stones, which were quite slippery, but soon one reached the summit plateau, at 2,290m. From the 5th deck to summit, it took me nearly 3 hours as I was going really slowly. When the weather is clear, the scenery is nice and worth the efforts. Coming down the initial slippery part is even more difficult. I caught a glimpse of the Ezo fox running across the pasture. Advisable to bring along raincoat, food water and most importantly, a good pair of non-slip hiking shoes that will protect the heels.
CS Y — Google review
I visited here in September. First cable car took me to about 1100m high, where people can stroll nicely with fresh air. Visitors intending to climb the mountain are advised to register there to indicate the departure and arrival time, in case the rescue needs to take action.... Then I started the claim, which took me about 2.5 hours. The terrain got very rocky at some sections, which made it extra challenging. On top of that the temperature started to fall rapidly and the wind cutting through with cold air, so I started to put on more clothes. The view from the top is very rewarding. While I was lucky with the weather, it was quite cold on top. The disent wasn't easy either, because the ground was very slippery. It is highly recommended to get a pair of gloves to soften the falls and avoid injuries. Waking sticks cand also help to lessen the pressure on the knees. Overall, I'm very happy, asthis was a very rewarding trip.
Samvel K — Google review
Nice Hike. Did the summit and returned via a loop past a natural onsen. Possible to complete within 6-7 hours if hiking quickly and not too many breaks. Good hiking shoes is a must. Hiking poles would be good too (did not bring them though).
Xunliang L — Google review
Great place for exploring autumn with different trees, flowers. Time to go: September last to October 2nd week for autumn leaves. Definitely see all the lake . Clear transparent water is breathtaking. If you are strong enough, you can hike Asahi dake. But it is challenging as throughout the hiking road is covered by loosely packed stones. But it is fine. Particularly descending time need more caution. Winter time people go for ski and snowboarding. Have a good time.
Saswati A — Google review
One of the most enjoyable hikes we've experienced in Hokkaido. The weather on the mountain was rainy and cool. It was a great contrast to the June heat. Mt. Asahi-dake was shrouded in fog during our visit. We enjoyed the steam vents, the wildflowers, the crisp air, the lack of crowds during inclement weather, and the mystical feel of the mountain.
Gerry W — Google review
I walked the main loop in a sundress and walking sneakers, you absolutely don't need hiking gear if you don't already have it on hand. I saw lots of kids and even elderly people with canes (would not recommend it for those who can't walk unassisted though!), so as long as you are not wearing clothing that restricts your movement or shoes like heels, then you'll be fine. There are some bits where you are walking over craggy rock steps, and depending which way you walk the loop, there may be a long-ish section that is downhill rocks, and you will have to pick your way down like mountain goat. But it is by no means a hard climb, more like a mountain walk with a tiny bit of climbing here and there. It was definitely quite cool with the wind, but on a sunny day, the sunlight will feel harsh. Bring UV protective gear. I used a sun parasol for most of the climb - so there was always something in one of my hands, and I still managed fine. In the summer there are little patches of cute flowers here and there - but perhaps due to the unusual heat, they weren't as widespread.

It was a small lake located in an active volcano, and it was such a beautiful place. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes to walk to that spot after taking the cable car up. On rainy days, the path may be flooded, so it's recommended to wear hiking boots. The path is steep, so it may be difficult for elderly people to access.

Daisetsuzan Gensui Park is a beautiful park located near the Asahidake Ropeway in Hokkaido. It offers the best spring water and excellent service, with clean restrooms and an easily walkable trail to a small waterfall. The park provides trolleys for transporting water and has attentive attendants.
A natural spring well set up for filling up your water bottles. There are even trolleys provided to wheel you boxes of bottles back to your car. The water is crystal clear and absolutely pure. After you fill up, take a short stroll along the wooden walkway beside a stream to a small waterfall. It's very beautiful in all seasons and suitable for all ages and abilities.

This was a quiet unassuming stop along the way to the Asahidake Ropeway. We went on a rainy day in September and it was misty, quiet, and beautiful. There were only a few other people there. We had the short trail to ourselves. At the parking lot is a fountain area with water out of rocks with little dollies in case you have a lot of containers to fill. The spring itself was at the end of a short trail and beautiful. The bathrooms at the parking lot were clean.

Hagoromo Falls, also known as Hagoromo no taki, is a stunning natural attraction in Hokkaido, boasting a graceful 270-meter-long curtain-like cascade. Visitors can also admire the powerful flow of water at Shikishima Falls nearby. The area offers picturesque views and a serene atmosphere for nature enthusiasts to enjoy. Additionally, visitors can indulge in the relaxing experience of soaking their feet in the free public hot spring located near the waterfall.
The highest in Hokkaido at 270 metres tall. I found it to be a very gentle and serene waterfall. Before and after walking to see this wonder I bathed my feet in a free public hot spring. The water was hot at around 44 degrees and it made me feel very relaxed. The water is heated naturally under the Earth's crust. The hot spring for your feet is called, "Heavenly woman's foot bath". You can sit here with your feet in hot water and look around at the sheer cliffs of the mountain river valley. This is my latest favourite place in this area.

Asahidake). On the mountain climbing course, there is the ``Nakadake Onsen Branch'' or the ``Susoai Branch.'' There is still snow around this branch until late in the summer, and the mountain trail is muddy. There is a bench here so you can take a break. The standard time from Daisetsuzan Asahidake Ropeway Sugatami Station is 2 hours and 20 minutes. As you enter the mountain trail to Nakadake Onsen, a grassy field stretches out between Mt. Asahidake and Mt. Antaromadake, and this area is called ``Susogadaira.'' Susugidaira is a large-scale flower garden that is covered in a carpet of Chinguruma flowers from mid-July to late July. Hot Springs & Geysers
Nakadake Hot Spring is a secluded natural gem nestled between Mt. Asahidake and Mt. Mamiya, accessible via a 2-hour trek from Sugatami Station through Susogidaira. The hot spring features a footbath-sized pool with a mix of high-temperature acidic spring and stream water, offering a serene and liberating experience as you soak in its therapeutic waters.
Small onsen during loop hike. Lovely to soak your feet in and take a break!

Foot bath here for a break. The shovel was broken and the onsen temperature was luke warm though. It was much hotter before.

(Translated by Google) 20241128 "Nakadake Onsen". This is a secret hot spring located deep in the Daisetsuzan Mountains, at the foot of Mt. Nakadake. If you access from Sugatami-no-Eki, the top of the ropeway, the route is mostly flat and there is no big difference in elevation, but it will take about 2 to 3 hours each way, so you will need some proper climbing equipment. The area is also a brown bear habitat, so we recommend carrying a bear bell as well. There may be equipment left in the area that users brought in, but most of the time they are washed away during melting snow or stormy weather. Nakadake Onsen has a strong image of being a secret hot spring, but during the climbing season there are quite a lot of people, so it takes a lot of courage to bathe completely naked. Most of the users are climbers who go from Sugatami Station to Mt. Asahidake, Mt. Mamiyadake, Mt. Nakadake, and then Sutaidaira, and I think they often use it as a footbath at the end before descending. I've been here several times in the past during peak autumn foliage season, and it's always been fairly busy. The autumn leaves of Chingurma on the way here are spectacular. For those who want to soak in the hot springs quietly, it may be best to access them by snowshoeing in the winter. 24H free. There is no equipment, only one mixed open-air bath. The spring quality is sulfur spring. The spring temperature is approximately 50℃. Perceptual characteristics are white, slightly cloudy, and tasteless with hydrogen sulfide odor.

We walked the loop version from ropeway to ropeway. It took around 6hrs with a lot of breaks. No bears, just foxes. This is a great spot for a break and foot bath. The last ropeway is at 5.30pm.

(Translated by Google) It took about two hours to walk there from Asahidake Ropeway Sugatami Station. The water is too hot to enter as it is, so they draw in water from a stream to adjust the temperature. I wanted to enter completely naked, but there were some mountain girls there, so I had to settle for a foot bath... This is a wonderful hot spring in a very pleasant location.

(Translated by Google) Considering the adjustment of water temperature and depth, a foot bath is better than a full body bath. Depending on the season, hypothetical toilet booths are installed, but there is nothing else. Only a river of melted snow and a simple bathtub. This wild feeling is irresistible. We highly recommend this place as a detour while traversing Mt. Asahidake and Mt. Kurodake.

(Translated by Google) It is located on a slope in the middle of a mountain trail, and hot water gushes out from a crack in a cold stream. There are only streams and rocks around, and of course there is no changing area. The entire stream is not hot water, but a part of it, so you can feel the warmth by storing it in the dug place. If there is a large amount of water, a large amount of cold water will flow into the bath, and even if you stir it, the water will remain cold at the bottom and only the surface layer at the top will be warm. There are many galleries, including those of women, passing by, and it takes courage to soak in them slowly. My impression when I entered was that even though I was stirring the water, my butt was still cold. It seems that some women come just for the footbath, so it's best to refrain from bathing exclusively.
