Naitai Highland Farm offers a peaceful outdoor experience with stunning views of grassy hills and scattered rocks. It's an ideal place to unwind and soak in the natural beauty away from the city's hustle and bustle. Visitors can enjoy a nice meal at a nearby restaurant or grab a snack. The area is also known for its picturesque road, perfect for motorcycle tours with its scenic curves. Additionally, there's a charming cafe lodge where visitors can relax while enjoying coffee or ice cream.
I think this is one of the best scenery in Hokkaido, initially I was hesistant to drive here as is quite a distant from Furano or Obihiro. Very picturesque shade of green grassland along the drive, seeing cows free roaming, weather is cool for hot summer, the cafe at the end of journey is very comfortable to just have the delicious dark chocolate soft served cone and watch the grassland.

This is far from most other places. But trust me, MAKE THIS DRIVE HERE. This place is beautiful. The view is beautiful. The air is fresh, the setting is perfectly made. It's not a highland farm per se so it's a bit of poor labelling. It's a place to see an amazing view of Hokkaido. There's ample parking. Ice cream, small restaurant with some mains like burgers / sandwiches here. Mainly beautiful views Man, Japan is something else....
Oliver L — Google review
Beautiful view and the food is a must try! The hamburger was great and the Dark chocolate-vanilla mix ice cream was divine!
Topazm_ — Google review
Beautiful views in a relaxing and serene setting. We had their ice cream, burger, and milk. All of which we enjoyed. Highly recommend stoping over here if it is on the way for you( and even if it is not).
Ryan L — Google review
Wow. If you are looking for a peaceful outdoor experience unmarred by the hustle and bustle of civilization and breath taking views, This is the place. Grassy hills and random rocks litter the area and is a nice way to stretch the legs and take in the scenery. If you are hungry, or craving a small snack, a restaurant sells lunch items near by. Food is great anywhere you go when in japan so i wouldn't fret on what to get. It's all good. I recommend getting the chocolate and vanilla mixed soft serve and potato fries.
Kenji S — Google review
Huge farm land. Great view from terrace. A pity that the constant loud announcements of the numbers when food is ready really disturbs the peace of the place. I found it annoying. Good hamburger and ice cream

Bridge
Nestled in the stunning landscapes of Hokkaido, the Taushubetsu River Bridge is an atmospheric relic that captivates visitors with its unique charm. This disused concrete rail bridge becomes partially submerged during winter, only to reemerge each summer as a striking sight against the backdrop of Lake Shikaribetsu.
When I go there in the end of January, it is nice weather so that I could go by my Honda fit which is not 4WD but no problem at all, very lucky day I guess. All the lake's serface was iced so I could walk on it. 30-40min to Taushubetsu bridge by walk, which is a mysterious object on the lake. In the winter, because of lake's short water, the bridge seams to be emarged on the lake only in the winter.
Hiroshi M — Google review
Lake Kunabira is incredibly beautiful, but what's even more special is its captivating bridge, practically submerged in the summer and only visible in the winter. From the signposted viewpoint on the main road, walk about 200 meters through the primeval forest to reach the lake. The entire forest is filled with the breath of nature, and gazing at the mysterious bridge from the lakeside is so enchanting that we wouldn't have left if the repeated roars of bears hadn't drawn us to the road.
WL L — Google review
Beautiful scenery around an old railroad bridge. With the construction of the Nukabira Dam, the bridge became submerged for part of every year. It's now falling apart, and part of the bridge is likely to fall down in the next few years.
Steve G — Google review
Nice looking old bridge. We saw it from the opposite side of the lake. There was a car park on route 273 and a short walk to the riverside where you can get a good view.

I don't imagine to go there by my Honda Fit, not 4WD, just FF. If weather is fine, you can access here easily by car. I went there in the begining of February. It is mid-winter in Hkkaido. Lake Shikaribetsu has a snow and ice festival in this time. You can stay in the ice hotel and enjoy ice bar on the lake. Also they have a hot spa on the lake. Tkis is the really special hot spa you can enjoy only in this period. That's a terrific experience you'll ever have.

This place is fantastic! We enjoyed the nature of Hokkaido very much and visiting this nature centre was a great experience. There're different exhibitions that go from geology, flora and fauna. The exhibition of lepidoptera and beetles was amazing!! They have a map of brown bear sightings in the area. The staff was friendly and kind. They told us that we could see the shimaenaga on the trail behind the building and we did it! So it's also recommended for birdwatching.
Ariel F — Google review
It was excellent place for kids and family to learn the nature of that area. The centre is a data base/library of nature and creatures by presenting in graphics and specimens. Very impressive and worth to stay at least an hour or more if time is available.

Nestled in the picturesque Kamishihoro Town of Hokkaido, Lake Nukabira is a stunning artificial lake that boasts an enchanting old arched train bridge. This scenic spot was created by the construction of a hydropower dam and has become a popular destination for visitors seeking both relaxation and adventure. The area features an onsen resort, perfect for unwinding after exploring the natural beauty surrounding the lake.
A such gorgeous place!! Very worth visiting. Unfortunately, didn't find the bubble this time, but I will be back again to find the bubble under the ice next time!!
楊孟穎 — Google review
We could only view it from a distance - there was no actual route to get down to the lake. Seems like we were the only ones there as well and it would not have felt safe to get down to lake during middle of March with no clear directions/pathway. Others who arrived shortly after left within minutes as well. Quite a long drive to get here too - not sure what to see and the cellphone signal is bad too. There was a cafe nearby in the town where we could view the lake but ultimately it was inaccessible to get down & cafe is only open during summer times.

(Translated by Google) During the coldest months, the area freezes completely, making it a popular place for activities such as fishing for smelt and visiting the Taushubetsu River Bridge. Of course, you can also see ice bubbles inside the ice. For the 2023-2024 season, the lake has been declared safe from freezing on January 2, 2024, so many people have been visiting since that day, as if they were waiting for that. To access the lake during the coldest months, park your car on the roadside near the Gonosawa bus stop and follow the beast road near the stream where the Shihoro Line Gonosawa Bridge ruins are located to reach the lake. Depending on the snow conditions, I got the impression that it was possible to walk on the lake surface even without snowshoes or snowshoes. However, it is a bit slippery, so it might be a good idea to use some simple crampons. The surface of the lake is windswept and -10 degrees Celsius is warm during the coldest months? It can get cold at a very low level, so you need to be careful and careful about how to protect yourself from the cold. Snow mountain equipment is required. Also, if it's sunny, I'll get snowy eyes if I don't wear eyewear. Also, if you want to watch Ice Bubble during the snowy season, you'll need something like a deck brush! Also, the ice bubbles were covered in snow, so I couldn't look for them on my own...I dug them earlier. (Translated by Google) 2022.1.27 I walked from the smelt fishing parking lot to see the Taushubetsu River Bridge and ice bubbles. The lake was covered with snow almost completely, and there was only a small amount of ice where you could see ice bubbles. Looking at the Taushubetsu River Bridge for the first time in 15 years, It was much more broken down than before. As we traversed the snowy surface of the lake, there were several times when we heard a tremendous rumbling sound, and at times it felt as if the ice beneath our feet was being lifted up by a swell, which was quite frightening. I think in about 10 years, it will look like it has been cut off in several places. The weather was nice, the blue sky was the most beautiful against the white scenery, and the snow on the lake sparkled in the morning sun like diamond sand. The snow on the lake was shaped like a white desert and was beautiful. Kamishihorokoku Koen Camping Ground is a spacious and well-maintained site, perfect for visitors attending the balloon festival. The large parking area and neatly kept lawn provide ample space for camping. The facilities include clean flush toilets, tidy washing areas, and conveniently placed garbage bins. Despite the nominal camping fee of 500 yen per person, waste disposal is complimentary, making it a convenient choice for campers.

(Translated by Google) The incredibly reasonable price of 500 yen per person per night is fantastic, with toilets, plumbing, and even a trash disposal area. However, the clientele is not the best. There are drunk people who shout loudly into the night, people sleeping in their cars with the engine running, and children who kick over other people's tents and tarps and run away. While the clientele is not the campground's fault, they could do more to remind people to behave. There were easy-to-understand signs in various places around the inn. The owner was also very polite. The rooms are old, but the toilets are new and clean. There are no TVs in the rooms, they are in the lounge. All the hot springs are mixed bathing. The indoor and outdoor baths, each with three different spring qualities, were all great. There is also a women-only indoor bath. There didn't seem to be any crocodile-like people around. It is a mysterious lake that was once worshiped as a sacred place by the Ainu people. There is no road to get to the island. If you take a sightseeing boat, you can turn around and view it from the direction of the torii gate. After doing a little research, I heard that it is a power spot protected by mountain dragons and water dragons, and that landing is only allowed once a year during a festival. It's called the White Snake Princess Festival, and it's said that the goddess used a white snake to lead the Ainu people who were suffering from starvation to this lake where many fish called Oshorokoma lived. It's like a festival based on that legend. It seems to be a very fantastic festival where a white snake and a princess dance in a bonfire. It looks like it will be held in July, so I suddenly became interested. You can also hear the story of Oshorokoma in the announcements on the cruise ship. The god is Benzaiten, who controls art and financial luck! By the way, you can see fine ceramic works at Hotel Feng Shui. It's a small island surrounded by nature, so it's a good idea to take a look when you're in the area. I went to see it on a pleasure boat. From here, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the Higashi-Daisetsu mountains and the eastern part of Daisetsuzan volcanic group. The plain in front of the platform is situated on an old caldera, adding to the fantastic scenery.
Crazy beautiful in winter. No one here too, you can enjoy it all to yourself. Kinda cold tho, so be prepared.

The highest pass in Hokkaido but curiously served only by a small shop and cafe (which is really popular as it has interesting items on sale) with single origin coffee too. It is interesting to note that the area used to be inhabited and was a village and that a railroad once goes to the area primarily for timber transportation. Nowadays, no one lives in this area and it's known for its high pass and a beautiful car bridge near (around 200-400m) to it.
Rtexal T — Google review
Mikuni Pass Observation Deck is one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in Hokkaido. Located along National Route 273, it offers a stunning panoramic view of the Daisetsuzan Mountain Range and the vast sea of trees below. When we visited, the air was crisp and cool, and the scenery looked like a painting, especially with the autumn colors spreading across the mountains. There’s a small parking area and a café nearby where you can enjoy a warm drink while admiring the view. The observation deck itself is easy to access and well-maintained, making it a perfect stop for travelers driving between Kamishihoro and Sounkyo. It’s especially beautiful in early morning or late afternoon when the sunlight touches the treetops and the valley glows in shades of gold and green. For anyone exploring central Hokkaido, Mikuni Pass Observation Deck is a must-visit spot for stunning views and a true sense of nature’s grandeur.

(Translated by Google) It's a magnificent appearance that gives you the illusion of when the train was still crossing the bridge. Especially because the bridge is tall. The lookout point from the promenade may be difficult to see because the vegetation grows abundantly depending on the season. It is about 5 to 6 minutes on foot from the Horoka parking lot next to the snow removal station near Takinosawa Bridge. Nestled in the serene landscapes of Hokkaido, Gonosawa Bridge offers a tranquil escape for nature lovers and photographers alike. Just a short stroll from the parking area, this picturesque bridge is surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of babbling streams. Early morning visits reveal a refreshing atmosphere that’s perfect for capturing stunning photographs. While it may not be on everyone's travel itinerary, stopping by Gonosawa Bridge is certainly worthwhile.
(Translated by Google) Shihoro Line Gonosawa Bridge Ruins Located in Kamishihoro Town, Kawato District, Hokkaido, the Shihoro Line Gonosawa Bridge Ruins were part of the former National Railways Shihoro Line, which began operating in 1925 and was discontinued in 1987. The route runs 78.3 kilometers from Obihiro Station to Tokachi-Mimata Station. Numerous arched bridge ruins along the route attract visitors seeking historical sites. The Shihoro Line runs alongside National Route 273, with parking available on both sides of the entrance. While the entrance is unmarked, it's easy to spot. Upon entering, you'll reach an intersection. Going forward, you'll reach the shores of Lake Kunadaira, and then to the right, you'll find Gonosawa Bridge. The Shihoro Line tracks have been paved with stones, and the path leads several hundred meters along this stone path to the bridge. Completed in 1955, the 7-meter-long arch bridge has a small stream flowing beneath it. In spring and summer, the stream gurgles, while in autumn and winter, withered branches against a backdrop of snow. There is an ancient bridge standing in the forest. In summer, the stream clouds bring green to the secluded place, and the stream water floats flowers on the stone bridge. In winter, the gorge is covered with thousands of layers of snow, and the river closes the Wuli Bridge. It's a great path for a walk Although it is a very small bridge, it is still in use as a promenade. It is attractive that unlike other bridges, you can walk across it. Shoes are required to take pictures from along the stream. Summer aside, at this time of year, rowing through the bamboo grass is a low-grade activity, so we arrived smoothly without worrying about getting lost. Unlike the Taushubetsu Bridge, this bridge still retains its former brave appearance and looks like it will remain in good health for a long time! ! I think photos along the river are dangerous when the water is high. Let's explore with safety first. It's so hidden you will almost miss it on most occasions. What you can do is lookout for the parked van with the entrance sign attached above. Great experience of riding a bike on a track. Views are gorgeous and is definitely a recommended activity if you are in the area Kudos to the owner who tried his best to accommodate us despite limited English

Easy activity to do and the staff can explain the instruction well in English. Alrhough the closing time is 4pm but the staff seems not mind to continue if there are customers. Entire activity takes about 30 mins including explanation.

A unique activity in this area, a converted disused train tracks (the current tracks are of course laid on the path and the old tracks removed) with rail cycling (can get quite fast if you cycle hard and exhausting!). It is a little short out and back trail (with turntable) and the fee is rather high but only because only one set of guests can ride it at any one time. Spot the activity with a van (with green flag) parked on the side of a road in a carpark. The activity entrance is located conveniently at the side of the carpark.

(Translated by Google) I visited on a weekend, and there were no other customers, so it was like we had the place to ourselves. Personally, I thought it was nice that there was a sign on the roof of a Delica at the entrance. It costs ¥1,500 for one person, and ¥2,000 for two people. It's a flat road that takes just under 10 minutes one way (the old Shihoro Line remains, but the rails were laid for a trolley). At the end of the road, you turn around and head back. It's fun to take turns on the way there and back, with the person at the back pedaling and the person at the front taking pictures. Even children can pedal if they're tall enough. You can't see the lake or other scenery, but the clanging sound of the rails going over the joints is pleasant. You can avoid the sun, but if you don't like bugs, it's a good idea to bring insect repellent.

Accidentally found this interesting bicycle-train-tracks-trolley ride in the forest. It was lots of fun even if it was only a 1km track. We even saw a deer who crossed the tracks! Person-in-charge gave clear instructions with demonstration and a practice session too!
