Hiking Trails
Box Hill, located in Tadworth, is a renowned summit along the North Downs ridgeline in Surrey. It offers sweeping views and walking trails, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can also enjoy amenities such as a cafe, gift shop, and parking at the hill's peak. The area is known for its far-reaching vistas over ancient woodland and chalk downland, making it an ideal spot for nature walks and scenic exploration.
Went hiking with my friends. Got the route from strava with a restaurant on the way. Grab some beers and it's a moderate hike from the bottom. You can even grab some wine from denbies and continue your walk up to the top. Its one of the most beautiful hikes in surrey.

It was a wonderful biking trip from Purley to Box Hill on a ebike. At 68 years of age I could cycle 50 KMS and explore British Countryside. Worth the effort.
RK S — Google review
I love this place as it's 30 minute drive for me. A good place to enjoy nature, trails and good food options within 5 minutes walk. Plenty of parking available, and kids can enjoy the place as they have Children specific Trails too with few nature activities that my child enjoys! Definitely one of my favourite place in the UK.
Harshul S — Google review
Did Box Hill, Lodge Hill and Juniper Hill Circular that having up and down always but the terrain within 200m that so far not too hard. The view of box hill is so good.

Great views, National Trust car park saves a hike up the hill (cost is free for National Trust members, prices on attached photos for non-members); follow the NT sign up the zig zag Road. We did the stepping stone walk on a warm but mercifully not sunny day in August. It was doable in comfy trainers although it did involve a very steep descent down the steps from the car park to the stepping stones and then we followed the path along the river (although you can't actually see the river) back to the village where the zig zag road starts going up the hill. The path back up the hill starts just to the left of the hotel on the roundabout and is very steep, so you need to be fully mobile and relatively fit to get up there. It looked very slippery for those coming down that way as it was just a gravel path on a steep hill, not steps like going down to the stepping stones. We did the whole walk slowly with a 4 year old who definitely needed carrying for the steepest parts and with a few stops to catch out breath and have a snack it took us approx 2 hours. It was a nice walk but we didn't realise how steep the slopes would be and wished we had taken more water!
Jim K — Google review
Beautiful place for some serious incline hiking, or just a gentle walk depending on what route you take. Perfect for training for a big climb/hike up a mountain, also nice for a dog walk with some really great views! Definitely bring plenty of water with you and ideally some hiking poles if you’re a bit unfit or need that extra support if you’re doing the longer, hilly routes as it is VERY steep in places! A cafe is situated at the car park but it’s very expensive. There’s also toilets there and usually an ice cream van in the car park in sunny weather (again, extortionate prices (£5.50 for a small whippy ice cream) but it’s there if you want it! :) There’s free water fountains there though which is handy for refilling your bottle. Parking is around £10 for the day, or free for disabled badge holders and national trust members. Overall, great place!
Life0ffthegrid — Google review
A beautiful and peaceful hike! I had a great time at Box Hill! The scenery on the drive up was beautiful, and the 20-30 minute hike to the top was definitely worth it. It was so peaceful and the views were stunning. The only minor issue was parking. We ended up having to use the private car park in front of the hotel, which cost £4.95 for 2 hours. Just something to be aware of if you're planning a visit! Despite that, it was a fantastic experience and I'd highly recommend it for a peaceful walk with amazing views.
SYED G — Google review
Great place for a day out with family or friends. Walking shoes are recommended. Be prepared for a moderate difficulty, lots of steps parts ( on the way from The Stepping Stones up to Box Hill we accounted 278) . Beautiful views from every side. At the top is a parking, if you are a National Trust member is free if not you have to pay. Coffee shop is cosy, with lots of choices of food and drinks, helpful and kind staff, toilets available. Highly recommended.

Denbies Wine Estate is a unique destination offering quirky farmhouse B&B accommodations with en suite bathrooms, surrounded by a sprawling vineyard and two restaurants. Despite the challenging climate for grape cultivation in the UK, Denbies manages to produce remarkable wines that have garnered international acclaim. The estate's expansive 265-acre vineyard provides stunning photo opportunities reminiscent of picturesque landscapes abroad.
Lovely lunch and train ride around the Vineyard. Glass of sparkling wine optional. Worth booking lunch early as the last Vineyard tour stops at 3pm. Great view over the North Downs and Boxhill. The Gallery restaurant gets quite warm and busy. There's also a ground floor Brassiere and garden restaurant/ hotel. Hidden gem in the Surrey countryside. Recommended 👌🏽
Bev747sp — Google review
Vineyard size: England’s largest, with approximately 265 acres of vines—about 10% of plantings in the UK . • Annual visitors: Around 300,000 guests enjoy tours, tastings, and on-site amenities . • Visitor Centre: Includes a working winery tour, 360° cinema, wine cellars, lecture space, two restaurants (Garden Conservatory & Gallery), and a well-stocked wine and gift shop
Malik S — Google review
Set against rolling hills, this estate offers a charming blend of nature and refinement. The tours are informative, with knowledgeable guides who bring the vineyards to life. Wines are varied and enjoyable, though a few lack the depth of finer European rivals. Dining is pleasant with scenic views. Overall, a rewarding experience that balances education and leisure, deserving a confident four stars.

Wonderful place where you can spend a day immerse in the nature of the wineyards. In Autumn the colours of the trees and the leaves will leave you speechless. The tpur with the little train is fabulous qs every year.i defenitely reccommend to visit thia wonderful estate.

Great walk with fantastic views. Somewhat uphill. Had a good sandwich, but the fish n chips looked better. Coffee was good although the “barrister “ didn’t know the difference between an Americano and Long Black -“ they tell us it’s just coffee!!” Bought a Christmas decoration and a clockwork Christmas tree from the shop. Autumn colours lovely

Enjoyed the tea and train tour at the wine estate. Afternoon tea was delicious (both savoury and sweet, and there was plenty to go around). Would have liked a bit more instruction / organisation from the team about what the experience entailed. The hotel restaurant team were not prepared to receive us after the tour finished so there was a bit of waiting around which interrupted the momentum of what was otherwise a fab day. The wine was great too!
Josh W — Google review
Considering this is a working vineyard it's great that there is open access for walkers and you are able to take in the stunning views and get up close to the grapes! Has a spacious gift shop and as a relief to older walkers the toilets are free to use!

Surrey Hills National Landscape is a designated natural area known for its stunning views and extensive network of trails suitable for walking, running, cycling, and horseback riding. In addition to outdoor activities, visitors can explore the impressive collection of vehicles at Brooklands Museum or enjoy llama trekking in the beautiful surroundings. For those seeking accommodation, Barnett Hill offers contemporary boutique rooms and suites amidst the picturesque Surrey Hills.
Amazing place to visit with family. We enjoyed lot. Keep a stick with you if you are planning to do trekking towards stepping stone. You can bring some food as well with you as there will be big queue at food stall.
Jiten P — Google review
The trail offers breathtaking views of the nature, unique opportunity to connect with nature, breathe fresh air, and appreciate the beauty of the outdoors. The sun shone brilliantly, The area is surrounded by scenery of outstanding natural beauty. The whole landscape was bathed in a warm, inviting glow, a scene that felt both serene and awe-inspiring. It really helps us to reconnect with ourself taking time out from mundane things we do keep the life moving.

Box Hill in Surrey is a beautiful place to visit, especially if you enjoy nature, walking, and stunning views. The panoramic scenery from the top is breathtaking, and on a clear day, you can see far across the Surrey Hills. The area has well-marked walking trails, from gentle family-friendly paths to more challenging hikes through the woodland. The woodland itself is peaceful and full of wildlife, making it a lovely escape from busy city life. There are picnic areas where you can relax, and it’s also dog-friendly, so great if you want to bring your pet along. The Old Fort adds a bit of history to the visit, and the National Trust café nearby is handy for snacks or a warm drink after a walk. Parking is available, and the site is managed by the National Trust, so it feels safe and well looked after. Overall, Box Hill is a fantastic spot for fresh air, exercise, and enjoying the beauty of the English countryside.

Nice place for refreshment. Nice scenary plus train going scene.must recommended. Parking Fee 1 hour 2₤.
Parvez S — Google review
Beautiful areas and plenty to see and explore. Bare in mind which area you go to as some places aren't suitable for wheelchair/walking aid users. Rangers are never too far off either so areas are safe and well maintained. I'd also recommend having a phone with WiFi so you can use a map to navigate places if you want to explore less populated areas.
TheFourOfHearts — Google review
Beautiful area with superb scenery and extensive views from the numerous hilltop viewpoints. Idyllic villages, quaint local architecture, lovely churches and varied landscapes ranging from chalk downland to sandy heaths make it a fine place to escape the bustle of surrounding towns and cities. There are countless opportunities for walking, cycling and horse riding, and the extensive tree coverage provides plenty of shade for dogs during the summer months. The main visitor attractions are generally maintained to a very high standard, with provision for parking, cafés and well signposted trails. Look beyond the popular attractions and there are some hidden gems to be found, with sprawling heathlands and rocky hills more similar to Dorset than anywhere in southeast England. It's worth doing some research and heading off the beaten path, as the best known places can get very busy on weekends. Of all the scenic regions I've visited in southeast England, the Surrey Hills has a consistency of beauty through the landscape and villages that few can match. It's worth visiting in every season, with beautiful bluebells in spring, swathes of purple heather in summer and stunning autumn colours. For a very pleasant woodland walk interspersed with great views, and a stop for lunch at a country pub, it's hard to beat.
Andrew T — Google review
This is one the best national parks I've been to in England it is so peaceful and calm the view from here is fantastic you can see the city and the small village from the hill it is also fun because you can roll down the hill or go for a picnic. It's a national park you can also have a small hike there if you want l. There is a small river there too and you can have a walk there too so much wildlife full of nature I hundred percent recommend everyone going there if you do enjoy.

Leith Hill, located in Surrey, is a picturesque hillside area known for its enchanting woodlands, meadows, and diverse wildlife. As the highest point in south-east England, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The 18th-century tower atop the hill provides an opportunity to marvel at the stunning vistas that stretch all the way to London in the north and the English Channel in the south on clear days.
Leith Hill is wonderful location for a short to medium length hike. As a natural trust location it’s really well maintained and kept clean. The hill itself provides great views across the downs and plenty of footpaths and mountain bike trails. Great for an afternoon amble. For those wanting to take it to the next level, you can also pay to go up the tower. Worth a visit 👍

There's a choice of car parks , smallish ones, depending how physically able you are to climb through the woods to summit and tower. Tower is only open at weekends and BH's. Views are brilliant from summit and even better from top of Tower. I went in brilliant sunshine. Small cafe hatch , seating is benches outside. No toilets.

Nice to cycle, walk or drive to. Lovely walk through the woods. Great views from the top. Small coffee and pastries kiosk in the Tower basement. Nearby Leith Hill Place and rhododendrons park also worth a visit

Lovely place for trail walking. We completed - Friday Street to Leith Hill Circular trail, which took around 4 hours and honestly it was really enjoyable. Some rocky tracks, some steep uphills and downhills make the trail interesting and fun. Overall really pleasant walk with beautiful view points.

A lovely, quaint museum! Very knowledgeable volunteer staff - lots of interesting, informative displays. There's a small public car park in West Street just before the museum - go slowly as it's easy to miss! Currently the museum is only open Thursday to Saturday but is well worth the couple of quid entrance fee.

So lucky to have Dorking Halls. Great venue showing all latest films at a reasonable price. The yearly membership is really worth getting. Been twice in recent weeks to see different comedians - both shows were excellent. Love the variety of shows DH offer. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Bar good too. Can’t comment on food as haven’t eaten there. Overall though great venue

Wonderful historic home of Rudyard Kipling and very knowledgeable friendly staff. Smaller estate than sim Trusts but lovely to walk around. Love how much history is packed into this little coffee shop. The staff was so friendly and happy to have so many people in their cafe. Quick service and the food was delicious. Many veggie and vegan options for food. Indoor and some outdoor seating. They give you a delicious piece of ginger cake with your hot drink it was very tasty.

I am totally in love with this place. We were there for breakfast around 9 AM in the morning and we were their first customer ☺️. Such warm staff, they served us really well. They come and ask you if everything is ok, if you like your food or not, If you want anything specific with your food. They have preserved their place really well and written everything about the story of how this place has started.

Best Scone I have ever had and in such cute cafe full of rich history about William Mullins a local shoemaker and Pilgrim Father who travelled to America on The Mayflower in 1620. This cafe was his home 👌

If you're looking for an unhurried shopping break, value for money, great tea and tasty, then Mullins is your stop in Dorking. Take time to relax, as that's what it's for. The coffee and walnut cake is a particular favourite. Or a jacket spud. Or anything you fancy ...
Stuart M — Google review
Not being from the area, I asked a local where is best to go as I had a few hours to kill. They pointed me in the direction of Mullins. I was greeting by great customer service and even better food, iced coffee which was perfect and you can tell they do put a lot of care into their food and their relationships with customers. Whilst sitting here there were people coming in just to say hi to the staff! Great atmosphere and if you are travelling through Dorking, it’s definitely worth to stop.

Met the girls for lunch, table pre booked. I have never been so rushed to make a meal choice made a very uncomfortable meet up. Then asked for bill, bill arrived, guy came clutching the pdq machine....were paying cash, had to ask for a few minutes to get sorted. Appreciate small venue, so no doubt getting bums on seats.....will not be going back. Food was OK....nothing to shout about.

We drove out of our way to visit Mullins Coffee shop, and the location where my 10th great grandfather, William Mullins, worked and lived as a shoemaker. I am a 9th great grandson of John Alden and Priscilla Mullins, Williams daughter, all Mayflower pilgrims that sailed to America in 1620. Basil and Susan were the most gracious hosts, and the lunch was delicious. We had a jacket and a pannini, both excellent. When we left an hour later, we were sad to have to tell them goodbye! They were so kind! We consider them our newest friends and would highly recommend them for a personable, historical, and culinary delight!

Nestled near Dorking, Tanhouse Farm Shop is a delightful destination that has captured the hearts of both locals and visitors. This charming spot offers a delectable menu for breakfast, lunch, or just a quick snack—making it an ideal pit stop during your scenic walks or bike rides in the stunning countryside. The food here is not only delicious but also handmade with care, featuring hearty options like their renowned sausage rolls.
A place where you can taste the joy of tasting indoors and outdoors at the table. I highly recommend it. As soon as I found this place surrounded by green forests on the map, I really wanted to visit. I visited over the weekend and it was a very comfortable place. It is a happy place to enjoy meals and tea time for families with children or only adults. The parking space is also large, so you don’t have to worry about visiting anytime during business hours, and let’s take our walking shoes out of the trunk for a short walk after eating~~~
JiminKim김지민 — Google review
Just wow. The food is all handmade, wholesome, and hearty. I would definitely recommend the sausage roll. The farm shop has local honey, which we have regularly to try and settle our hay-fever. Gorgeous handmade items such as pillows, gifts, jewellery, and even artwork, but my favourite were the logs designed for bees and wildlife! There is a play area suitable for kids, maybe not for babies or little toddlers, while you have a coffee. But there are cute cows in the field next door they would love to see. There are plenty of shady seats and benched for sun lovers outside and a number of indoor seats in the airy and light cafe. Loads of parking with an overflow car park too.
Amy W — Google review
I’ve lived locally for 26 years and never heard of this place until now. A lovely spot. Great staff. Space for kids and dogs. Great for aviation enthusiasts with the Gatwick flight path. Ample parking.
Liam R — Google review
Reviewing solely as a place to eat: It's a handy (and popular) stop-off for cyclists, with indoor and outdoor eating areas. It isn't the cheapest, but I know for a fact that they cater for vegetarians, as I had a vegetarian (vegan, I think) pastry and salad for lunch. There's a wide range of lunch options, from full meal down to snack size, which is useful.
J — Google review
I love Tanhouse Farm shop and cafe. Delightful venue for lunch and/or coffee. Very child and dog friendly. Large outside seating area and parking. Great to use as a base for a lovely, pretty flat, farm countryside walk. Food is great. Home made. British. Vegetarian. My quiche was delicious.
Candida A — Google review
Planned a lunchtime cycle to stop here, was unfortunately not great. Flat white was more a white Americano and the sausage roll was dry with little flavour. Carrot cake (not pictured as I was given this at the counter and was hungry!) was nice, a redeeming snippet, but would rather have finished with it.
James P — Google review
Just been for breakfast. The food was good but you don't get much for the price. I had the small breakfast, I asked for poached egg it was hard so disappointed on that.also probably only had a small spoon of mushroom. My partner had a small breakfast and cup of tea, I had a flat white and the bill was over £21. Defo won't go here again

I have driven past this place many times and had always promised myself one of their full English breakfasts. It was around 930am on a Wednesday morning on a glorious sunny day when I went past the entrance and decided that today was the day I'd fulfil my self promise. Drove up the drive and turned into a reasonably sized grass covered car park. Parked up and made my way into the Farm shop and ordered a full English and a cuppa. Came to £10.90. Went outside as it was such a nice day and found an empty wooden table with bench seats available, sat down and enjoyed the sunshine and watched children playing on the fort and rocking platform whilst waiting for my breakfast. It wasn't long in coming. A nice full English two eggs, two rashes of bacon, a couple of hash browns, a couple of sausage patties, half a tomato, mushrooms and a couple of slices of toast and butter plus a cup of breakfast tea - should have taken a photo of it but was more focused on eating. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great. As I ate a succession of cars appeared and the car park and tables filled with families, Many with young children. Seems I had timed my visit to perfection. I shall certainly be returning.

Breakfast restaurant
Emlyn Restaurant, located at the Burford Bridge Hotel, was awarded 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Surrey Life Food and Drink Awards. The restaurant offers contemporary British cuisine with a variety of menu options including large, small, and sharing plates, as well as a grill and desserts. The setting at the foot of the North Downs countryside is magnificent. Lit by candlelight in the evenings, the restaurant exudes a stylish yet cozy atmosphere.
Nice staff members and great vibes. Loved the food here.

This was something. I was staying in the hotel and wanted to grab a quick bite for dinner. When I arrived, I was standing in the doorway for a solid 5 minutes waiting for someone to tell me which table is free. A guest finally took pity on me and informed me which tables where available. The waiters were kind- but ignored me for a solid 15 minutes. I ordered the gnocchi - which I assumed would be a safe choice - they arrived after a very short time... The taste was bitter and tangy. Half melted cheese was sprinkled across the gnocchi but did nothing to elevate the taste. While the gnocchi in the center where piping hot the gnocchi on the outside were cold. I am not sure what to make of it. Overall this was a strange experience and I would not recommend having dinner there. The manager offered to comp the meal which was a very nice offer.

The best thing about this restaurant is the service, hence the 1 star. It is just a shame it is let down by such awful food. The cod tacos were stale. The tacos were so hard and chewy, they were awful and the cod was a poor quality fish finger at best. The chicken Katsu said on the menu it was homemade, it definitely was not, it had no flavour at all, the sauce tasted very processed. My husband had the schnitzel, which was a cordon bleu chicken, not a schnitzel. It was supposed to come with a smoked tomato salad, which was not the case, it was just normal cold tomatoes. It has put us off having breakfast here, so we are going elsewhere.

Waited around 3 and a half hours for food that was Tesco bought (hot wings), steak had clear signs of being glued together. Service was unbelievably bad, after we complained they had a comedic level of sas. Overall considering the price, service and quality of the food, may be one of the worst places Iv ever been. Nice scenery though😐

Great experience of a posh afternoon tea. The full experience had too much sweet dishes and not enough sandwiches. Would have preferred it the other way round. We ran out of sandwiches and wanted more, whereas we could finish the macaroons, and other sweets. A little expensive but okay for a treat.

My party of six had afternoon tea at the Burford Bridge Hotel this afternoon. We were quite full and couldn't eat the selection of cakes so we asked our server if we could have a 'doggy bag' to take them home. We were told it wasn't possible to take food out of the dining room. We asked why and were told it was company policy. Absolute nonsense, this is food we'd PAID for! Every five star hotel and Michelin star restaurant allows you to take home uneaten food. This ridiculous rule ruined the whole experience for us.

Excellent food and good service. Very nice location and clean, comfortable restaurant. Relatively expensive but not crazy prices. We had the fixed price Sunday lunch menu with a choice of 4-5 options for each course. Very nice waiting area near the bar where you can look at the menu while waiting for your table.

Just had a family lunch in the Emlyn Restaurant, the food was fantastic! The linguini absolutely superb and the fish and chips were also well received by my family. What made the lunch even better was the wonderful service we received from Farid and the team, they created a warm and joyful atmosphere, so good we immediately booked to return.

Bury Hill Fisheries is a favored fishing destination that offers easy accessibility for individuals with limited mobility. Its peaceful atmosphere and well-maintained surroundings make it an ideal spot to relax and fish. Notable catches, such as 12 and 15lb carp, have been reported. The fishery's wildlife also provides entertainment. While the old lake may be closing to day ticket users, there are other lakes worth visiting on the grounds.
This is my favourite place to go fishing. I always go to bond lake as it it easily accessible for me. I am disabled and have very limited mobility so it is great to be able to drive up to the swim, set up and then my wife park the car. It is very peaceful there and the area is well maintained. I have caught some really nice carp there, with a 12 and 15lb out on my last session. The wildlife are really entertaining as well ;-) I would definitely recommend this fishery.

This is a really nice place to relax and catch some nice fish. The only bad thing that has happened recently it’s that the old lake has been sold off and now is a private lake and there is no access for the public for fishing!

Such a magical space, went Bankrupt Holiday Monday and it was very busy, but that didn't detract from the wonderful sights. Very steep steps to the stepping stones, but there is a gentler route down. Go a bit off the main tracks to see the real beauty.

Box Hill – Stunning Countryside Walks Box Hill is a truly beautiful part of the Surrey Hills and perfect for a countryside walk. The views from the top are breathtaking, stretching right across the valley and beyond. There’s a great variety of trails to choose from — whether you’re after a gentle stroll or a longer, more challenging hike, there’s something for everyone. It’s dog-friendly, with lots of open space and woodland for them to enjoy, and there are spots where you can stop for a picnic while taking in the scenery. The paths are well-marked, and there’s a National Trust café and facilities at the top which is a nice bonus after a long walk. A peaceful escape into nature, and one of the best walking spots in Surrey. Highly recommended for families, dog walkers, and anyone who loves the outdoors.

Great trails and views. Good NT amenities. Very busy at weekends and Bank Hols. Download walks free from the website. Avoid summer Sundays as the bikers that meet in Burford ruin the beautiful countryside atmosphere by doing circuits of Zig-Zag Road on loud powerful motorcycles. Weekdays best. Wear sturdy shoes and it’s windy up top.

The stepping stones are a fun and picturesque feature, perfect for a leisurely walk. I brought along my dog, Shadow, and he absolutely loved exploring the trails. There is also a charming second-hand book store, where you can browse and pick up a few treasures. There are plenty of walking trails to explore, catering to all fitness levels, and the area is great for picnics and family outings.

It is an ideal spot for hiking enthusiasts seeking a break from work worries while enjoying nature's beauty with chirping birds and humbling sceneries.
Shadow and I had such a lovely day out at Leith Hill today! 🐾🌳 It’s one of those places that just has something special about it. Shadow was absolutely in his element—darting around, leaping onto logs, and having the time of his life. Watching him enjoy himself so much always makes my heart happy. ❤️ As for me, I got to sit back, relax, and take in the most gorgeous views. There’s nothing quite like a bit of fresh air and beautiful scenery to recharge the soul. Oh, and the food! I treated myself to a homemade sausage roll and a cup of coffee, and let me tell you, they were both absolutely delightful. The perfect little pick-me-up! If you’re ever looking for a place to escape to for some fresh air and fun—whether you’re solo or with your furry friends—I can’t recommend Leith Hill enough. Shadow and I are already looking forward to our next visit! 🐕☕️🍂

Beautiful place for a hike, there is a cafe in the tower for a small bite or coffee. It can get really busy on weekends, but plenty of space to spread out and lots of walking paths. A nice cafe in the base of the tower, which creates a bit of a buzz around it. The Deepdene Trail, located just outside Dorking, offers a unique and historically rich walking experience. The network of paths takes you through dense rhododendron-covered hillsides, leading to a circular bench with stunning views at the hilltop. As you descend via a flight of steps, you'll encounter ornamental plants, the "Embattled Tower," and Coady the lion in the gardens. Information boards along the trail provide insights into its history.
Looking for hiking trails on Google the first result was the Deepdene trail in Dorking. We went there for the first time and struggled a little bit to find parking and also how to access the trail but we managed to do it in the end. The trail start is somehow hidden by the trees and when the road curves. Because we went there we just did a part of the trail and the gardens. It is a lovely afternoon walk or you can choose to go there with a lovely picnic and spent the day exploring the trails.
Andreea B — Google review
Lovely walking trail with excellent views. Not too busy and great for a shorter walk. Information boards dotted around explaining the history of the gardens with guided tours also available.

End August. Google maps took me into a large private car park servicing flats. So I went back up the hill and parked by the entrance of the footpath blocked for cars. Information boards. A pleasant stroll uphill past mature rhododendrons overlooking the old formal gardens leading from the private car park. Up 125 steps to the view. On the way back picked lots of very good blackberries Only three other peopleon a Friday afternoon.
Richard L — Google review
Unusual trail with an interesting history, just outside Dorking. A network of paths lead up hillsides densely covered with rhododendrons. At the top of the hill there are good views and a circular bench, surrounded in October by a sea of fallen acorns - need to be careful walking over them! A flight of steps leads down to the gardens, home to some ornamental plants, the "Embattled Tower" and Coady the lion. The trail is well signed, with various information boards explaining its history. Once the site of an impressive manor house (demolished in the late 1960s), the gardens were atmospheric in the late afternoon shade, with a strong sense of past glory. Pictures on the boards showed the house in its heyday, would have been quite a sight to see. There are a couple of parking spaces at the entrance gate, if these are full it's about 20 minutes walk from the nearest parking in town. The trail can extend into longer walks around Dorking if you have more time to spend.
Andrew T — Google review
A beautiful hidden gem of Dorking, lovely views from the top of the hill and enough rhododendrons to last you a lifetime in the gardens. The only downside is that there's not much in the way of parking nearby. But as a result the area is quieter than you might expect for somewhere so lovely. There is a Deepdene app that you can download with details of the trails and historical tidbits about each location. Also, at the entrance on the A24 there are free leaflets with maps for you to take to enhance your enjoyment.

A beautiful setting for a Christmas craft fair. The church is open most days and is a quiet space to have a quiet few moments away from the hurly burly of life. Or possibly ask, in prayer, for help and strength to cope with a problem, or simply offer thanks if things are going well. It is a beautiful space.

Worth a look! Friendly volunteers who gave me the history of the building. Some great funeral monuments and other architectural features.
Emily — Google review
The present church, completed in 1763, stands on the site of an earlier Saxon church. It was extended further in 1888 and, from 1927-61, was the pro-Cathedral of the diocese, until Guildford's cathedral on Stag Hill was consecrated in 1961. The fuller history of Holy Trinity can be found on a wall plaque at the bottom of the stairs to the entrance. It is the larger of Guildford's three parish churches, St Mary's, in Quarry Street shared the same ministry team. Holy Trinity is a fine building as befits its status as the Civic Church. It has a long musical tradition with excellent choirs and organ. The only problem for me is its location, at the top of the hill known as the High Street!

National Trust - Denbies Hillside offers an easy and picturesque walk along the chalky hillside, providing memorable views of the Mole Gap and Dorking. National Trust Denbies Hill in Surrey has some stunning views and some lovely walks along way marked paths through woodland and open countryside. There is a fairly large car park which is chargeable unless your a National Trust member. There are no facilities on site although there was a little wagon there selling various drinks, it was closing as I arrived at around 3pm. There is a grassed area near the car park where you could picnic although there are no tables. The path through the woods is quite wide, sadly too bumpy for wheelchairs even motorised ones, it's peaceful as it's away from any major roadways. There are paths going down the hill to the valleys below,on this occasion I chose to stay on the woodland path. From the top of the hill you can see the town of Dorking and the spire of St.Martins church and in front of you the tower at the top of Leith Hill ( see photos ) Dogs are welcome and it's very safe for them, there is a railway line at the bottom of the hill, I believe there are unmanned crossings over the line so care needs to be taken there, approaching trains were sounding their horns, there only appeared to be a couple of trains per hour. The Surrey hills have some lovely places to walk and offer some stunning views over many miles of countryside. Other places include Leith Hill,Box Hill and Reigate Hill. All of those sites have parking.

What a beautiful place for a walk. The car park wasn’t very busy, so nice and easy to park. The ticket machine wasn’t working but you can use an app to pay if required. I did the Denbies hillside nature walk, the views were absolutely stunning. It takes you to the bottom and then clearly, you know you’re going to have to make it back up the hill. The NT online guide I used reckoned it’s take 2 hours but it was quite a lot quicker than that. Perhaps it allows for some longer stops which are totally called for, given the views to take in. Thoroughly recommend - I’ll be coming back here again soon.

St Martin's Church in Dorking is a magnificent place of worship that exudes awe-inspiring beauty and rich historical significance. Its stunning stained glass windows and the unique opus septile, which combines mosaic work with stained glass design, are mesmerizing. This gothic-style church, although listed as Grade II*, resembles a cathedral with its grandeur. While it underwent renovations in the 19th century, its origins trace back to ancient times predating the middle ages.
Beautiful church in Dorking just off the High Street. Quite big for the size of the town. Lovely windows and a beautiful old font. Well worth a visit.

You’d think the strong ties with Vaughn Williams would be the most interesting thing about this church, but in the 1950’s under the looming threat of nuclear extermination that came living in the shadow of the Cold War the people of Dorking converted the crypts under this church into a fallout shelter capable of protecting about 30 people from the initial radio active fallout that would sweep down from London, this of course required a door into the crypts/shelter should the church be locked and they built the rather pedestrian looking entrance as can be seen in the photo at the front of the church for quick access! Interesting Yes!

Wonderful looking church in the centre of the village, next to the market square, near the football club

This Church delivers the Wow factor its just wonderful steeped in History and you can spend hours just looking at the stained glass windows never mind viewing the opus septile (work made in pieces) which combines the techniques of mosaic work with the design features of stained glass Well worth a visit if you're in Dorking and you definitely will not forget it There's a Christain Centre opposite where you can get a coffee and they also do lunches.

This gothic style church is listed only Grade II* but it does look like a Grade I* cathedral material. It's current structure is from 19th century renovations but originally it goes way back in time beyond middle ages. The spire is one of the tallest in the country and acts as a proper landmark when viewed from Surrey Hills.

I want to visit that St Martin's Church of England in Dorking Surrey. When I travel there on Monday 15th September 2025 for one week Holiday. I want to come on a Sunday morning at 11am. In Jesus name I pray Amen Alleluia. Love in Christ from Jesus and Sylvia Nazareth.

The Capel Military Show provided a unique and enjoyable Sunday afternoon, filled with fascinating vehicles and knowledgeable exhibitors. The Scouts' excellent carpark management deserves applause for their dedication. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the Red Arrows display. Anticipation for next year's show is already building. This captivating experience offered a valuable history lesson without succumbing to excessive health and safety regulations that often plague similar events.
We come to Capel every year as a group and have watched the event grow and grow. The team always put on a great show with a decent variety of displays, whatever the weather. Highly recommended for military enthusiasts and families alike.

What a brilliant time we had. Went on Saturday only. Well organised, so much to see. Plenty of food options. You can tell just how much effort these guys put into the show. First time but will go again!

If you like military history, action displays trade stands and fantastic food... Then this annual event is a most.. From living history to air displays to big armour it's a must.

It's not a bad little show. Seems to be less WWll tanks running. Each year that l go of recent times. No German tanks ( replicas of course). & No half tracks. It's probably me missing, to big 'War & Pease' show. This year was a bit mad, the way they directed the cars into the park area. Very time consuming, than other years. One big plus though. Met the man himself 'Combat Dealers' Bruce Crompton. Absolutely lovely man. We had a good chat, for 10 mins. Got a pic of us. Which l'll treasure. Thought he might be, a bit cagey. But no, he was very approachable. Made my day.

Spent one full day and two half days over Friday to Sunday and didn't really run out off things to see or do. A good selection of vehicles and exhibits, with plenty actually in action in the arena. Great to see a Sherman truddling around as well as the Leopard.

A great military show that is held every year at Capel. Runs Friday to Sunday with camping available.Great fun for all the family 👍🏻

What an awesome experience. Went with my daughter and 8yr old grandson. So much to see and do.

Fantastic show but badly lacking any show signage within the show. To find the chinook is mystery but at least that meant hardly any queue to see inside

My gym membership has increased nearly double since the overtaking of ‘Better’. The facilities however have gotten progressively worse with multiple machines being out of service for several weeks still yet to be fixed. Overly priced for the value.
Jack W — Google review
Its a good gym but has become very expensive with the price hikes. £15 for a day pass for a leisure centre is extortionate, especially as many machines were out of order or needed basic maintenance.
Robert P — Google review
Editing to say there’s more machines broken, even water fountain!! How can a gym function without a water fountain? Nice staff and gym’s always clean! But membership is highly overpriced for what it offers! Small gym, lack of equipments and maintenance is non-existent. Stair stepper’s been broken for at least 4 months! It’s a joke
Lívia V — Google review
Unjustified price hike for a deteriorating health centre. I used to be a member using the sauna in the evenings (with pool membership at £27 per month). Since Better too over, the changing rooms and shower areas became less clean and to access the session I had to wait in the queue behind non-member and share my full name in front of strangers, even if I booked the session via the new app beforehand. I remained a member, as the benefits of the sauna were worth the price and hassle, but since my membership expired, I was quoted £42 for renewal, which not only is a 55% price hike with no additional benefit, but is actually higher than the monthly swim membership advertised at £41 per month for new members!!!! It’s not so much about that pound difference, but a matter of principle. Good luck keeping members with such practices.
Stella N — Google review
Very nice leisure center! The reason i gave 3 stars is about the carpark and prices(very expensive for what they offer) I have to pay the park to go to the gym,and if i go 5 days a week, that's the cost for another month of membership. They should have an agreement with the carpark administation for leisure center members.

Virtually pointless swimming pool. My 7 year old son can easily manage a length on his own but according to the rules he’s not allowed out of a 5m x 10m area of the shallow end. This rule is strictly enforced irrespective of the child in questions ability to swim or my supervison. During a family swim session, most of the pool is virtually empty and obviously this area of the shallow end is crammed with parents all bumping into each other because anyone with a kid less than 8 who goes a metre past the red line gets waved back by the life guard. Obviously it’s possible to organise a pool, better than this even within the limitations of insurance. Somehow other places manage. Arthur Ransome must be spinning in his grave what happened to; “Better drowned than duffers. If not duffers, won't drown”.
Dominic H — Google review
One star is actually to much. It’s a badly run gym with lack of management. Just cancelled my membership. Would not advise anyone to join there.
