The Basilica of San Gavino is a historic hilltop church located in Sardinia, Italy. Constructed between 1030 and 1080, it is the largest and oldest Romanesque church on the island. The basilica features unique architectural details that combine external grandeur with an inviting interior. Beneath the central nave lies an underground crypt containing the relics of Saints Gavino, Proto, and Gianuario.
I highly recommend a visit to the Basilica of San Gavino in Porto Torres. This Romanesque structure has been beautifully restored, including its impressive crypt. The architectural details and historical significance make it a must-see!!!
Jozef F — Google review
A very beautiful and preserved church from century XI. This is an important and unique Roman building that is worth a visit. One of a kind due to its rectangular structure (not in cross-shape as it usually is).
José C — Google review
This is a stunningly-beautiful Romanesque church. It's amazing that it was built in the 11th century, probably using elements of a previous Roman temple. The architecture is gorgeous.
David S — Google review
Really nice, old cathedral! It’s worth visiting but check if it’s open.
Tomasz P — Google review
An evocative setting, both the church and the courtyard have been tastefully restored. An oasis of tranquility, also the nearby park.

The story of this church is quite interesting. I enjoyed visiting it.

Hiking area
Asinara National Park, located on the mountainous and uninhabited island of Asinara off the northwestern coast of Sardinia, offers a variety of activities for nature enthusiasts. The park features numerous hiking trails that wind through dense Mediterranean vegetation and provide opportunities to spot rare wildlife such as kestrels, hares, and mouflons. Visitors can also explore pristine beaches where marine life thrives in the protected environment.
The island so beautiful and name asinara ( donkey ) so many donkey and horse's in this island 😂I had the pleasant experience of walking from the north pier 14km to the south of the island. Donkey so friendly come to me. I like 👍👍 so much the island. Beautiful and Preserved and natural animals abound.
Su L — Google review
If you like places where nature is more important than human and you can feel at every step this rare lack of fear in animals towards humans - you must visit this place.
Chela M — Google review
Beautiful island with Cristal clear water. Pure but limited accessible. Former prison and now a national park
Hojoon B — Google review
Avoid this place if you see any chance for rain. There are no places where you can sit down during the raining. Only a few restaurants on the island so you do not has a the possibility to choose. The place it self beautiful but for a full day program I recommend only on a hot summer day when you can enjoy the sun and the beaches!
József F — Google review
Beautiful park unique experience with all the donkeys walking around especially the albino ones. Please make sure you rent bikes either on the island or in Porto Torres. Since biking enables you to see all of the island. There are also a few beaches you can visit if the weather is nice. In the off season there is only 1 restaurant open please keep that in mind and bring your own lunch water etc.
Gerbrand B — Google review
The place is very rundown. It has great potential but for 30 euros (boat, back and forth) not worth it. It seems no one takes care of the place :(
Karen D — Google review
The place is simply the full experience. Historical sites, breathtaking views, beautiful beaches, wild animals and the remains of a prison system. It's a must see if you're in the area.
Alin T — Google review
Great experience! It really is a must see in Stintino! Be sure to go there in early/medium June, since the colors of the plants are great and the water is not too cold. Best cala to have a bath in is near cala reale. From fornelli It takes about 1 hour and half to reach it. Overall a really nice trip!

Nestled in the stunning northwestern region of Sardinia, Spiaggia La Pelosa is a true coastal paradise that beckons beach lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. This idyllic stretch of white sand boasts crystal-clear turquoise waters, making it perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and leisurely beach strolls. The serene atmosphere is complemented by the presence of a historic medieval watchtower that stands sentinel over the landscape.
The most beautiful beach I have ever seen. You will need to make a reservation and bring mats which are mandatory
Natalia U — Google review
Very pretty, but very expensive and full of people. First row 50 (2 chairs and 1 umbrella) other rows 45. It’s very very full and very very beautiful. Depends on the kind of trip you are doing. And if you enter the website at 8 it’s almost sure you can buy. Parking paid, saw many people getting tickets on the way out, so pay for the hours you are going to stay.
Camila P — Google review
Overall experience was a 3/5. What is good: - view and the sea was just so beautiful and a must see for sure What is bad: - parking is quite expensive (paid 15€ for 4h) - you need to put a mat below your beach towel - reserving is a bit stressful (tickets are very popular and so you should reserve by 8am (or 9am when the not fulfilled reservations get back online)) - place is super crowded; it is really hard to relax there - windy place; be prepared for flying sun umbrellas (so better get a anker for your umbrella)
Sebastian K — Google review
Sure the water is beautiful, but you have to share it with hundreds of other people. Way too crowded. I thought that needing to make a reservation and pay ahead of time that they limited the number of people but that's not the case. We stayed the whole day to get our money's worth, but the beach was too crowded. There are beaches that are just as beautiful, free, and not full of people. Highly overrated.
Cassia G — Google review
Beautiful beach with fine white sand and turquoise water. The views are amazing, and the sea is crystal clear — perfect for swimming and relaxing.
Anisoara R — Google review
This is one of the most popular beaches in Sardinia. The water is clean and transparent. We went off-season (mid-October) and were positively surprised that they don`t charge for parking now. Better arrive early in the morning because an hour later the parking was almost full. The weather in October turned out to be perfect for beach time - less crowds and more parking space. Another positive surprise is that they did not charge us for a beach towel mat - there was no one to look after this. Also being off-season we did not have to make a reservation and just popped-up. The beach is suitable for families with children - no waves, calm water. Totally recommend but come here in October.
Google review
Super crowded, and impossible to find parking after 10:30 am, even in late September, on a weekday. This is a "fake" beach where social validation, digital culture, and identity performance is the main attraction. By the way, you'll need to make reservations a month in advance. Parking is super expensive, if you can find any spaces. This is your typical Instagram scam. That being said, the water is clear and shallow, a perfect swimming pool. Come here early to enjoy it. Oh, no reservations required if you're not planning to lie on the sandy beach.
Diego G — Google review
One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. The water is so blue and tranquil. Plan ahead to either get a full day pass 7 days in advance which allows you to enter the beach at anytime on the day(s) you previously selected. Alternatively, you can obtain a QR code 48-hour in advance, however, you must enter during a specific time. You will also need to pay for parking which accepts credit cards. Plan in advance and you will absolutely enjoy your time here.

Ristorante Pizzeria Scogliolungo in Porto Torres offers a complete menu with 7 meal and drink options. For seasonal or weekly deals, contacting the restaurant directly is recommended. The waterfront location makes it perfect for a romantic evening, and it's also close to natural attractions like Scogliolungo and Spiaggia di Balai. Visitors have praised the amazing sunset views, delicious seafood risotto, rosemary potatoes, and house red wine.
Even though Tripadvisor' s comments were not really positive, we decided to go tgere and we had a wonderful experience. Staff really nice and welcoming. The food...OMG the best linguini with astice...i would tgerefore recommend to stop following others comments but to enjoy your own experience...it wss amazing and the location is really beautiful.

We arrived at the restaurant and from the first moment, even not speaking Italian, they were very efficient, I didn't know the city, I was passing through to a nearby region to finish our tour around the island, we decided to stay overnight in a hotel in the city, which by the way were very helpful also. We can only enumerate positive points, no detail that could be bad for the moment, great variety of dishes, I super suggest going through the city and visiting this restaurant, and toast to the super view of the beach that is worth anything.
Wesley O — Google review
It was probably my worst restaurant experience in Sardinia in the last 30 years. The service is more like a staff canteen than a restaurant in that price range. Food quality bordered on amateur, service was disjointed, and there was a total lack of customer engagement. Never mind the smell of the bin area next to the entrance, which probably was an early indicator of the whole experience.
Francesco F — Google review
I didn’t have the best experience from the start . We asked for a table next to the window as the location of the restaurant has a view over the sea but we’ve been told no because the tables are all booked. We left the restaurant at 9:30pm and the restaurant was almost empty. The tables were setup for 4 and we were just two however if the restaurant is completely empty then I think they could have made an exception and please a customer. There was no music for ambience . The service overall wasn’t great , The food was mediocre and overpriced. On a positive note - the food portions were big , and location amazing if you get to sit by the window of course Definitely not a turist friendly restaurant. Maybe the locals perceive it differently.
Alexandru Z — Google review
Never really knew Porto Torres as we usually come and go off the boat at the harbour. Great view of the outdoor area but with a roof so you’ll enjoy the breeze. Seafood is fresh and staff are very friendly! But at the end it took a bit long for the bill but the place is very good overall!
ISR M — Google review
If you make a small trip for half day in Porto Torres....it is very good place to eat, very friendly staff and nice view
ALEX B — Google review
An amazingly beautiful terrace. The fish is fresh and tasty. The cheese desserts are also quite nice. Staff is not so friendly but overall worths the visit. Prices are not high considering the location and the quality of the food. Although 'coperto' is 3 per person, the highest I've seen during my one week stay in Sardinia :)
Andrei — Google review
44€ for this - grilled mix for two people. Are you serious? One of worst dinners in Sardinia. Fresh salad seemed to be left somewhere for couple of days before serving. Deep fried vegetables (some bits of cauliflower and zucchini) helped to take away hunger, at least. Thanks god we bought some prosciutto, bread and cheese for breakfast in the supermarket before, will be happy to complete this dinner at the hotel, as all this obviously was not ok. One star for location, second for the glass of wine, at least those 100 grams of liquid could not be spoiled.

Nestled along the stunning coastline of Stintino, Il Gabbiano is a delightful seaside restaurant that offers an inviting atmosphere with its airy design and covered beachfront terrace. Guests can indulge in a delectable array of seafood dishes, pasta, and pizza while enjoying breathtaking views just steps from the sea. The location is perfect for families, as children can play on the beach while adults savor expertly prepared traditional cuisine in this picturesque setting.
Today is our last day here. I feel so lucky to find this gem in stintino… this is the BEST restaurant we’ve had in the past few days. The fish as a starter is super fresh, the seafood pasta is cooked perfectly ❤️👍, the pizza is also not bad. With a perfect view, nice table setup, professional service, Is a 5/5 star restaurant for sure. And yes the price is slightly higher than other restaurants here, but, come on, you’re paying for a better food, service, and the amazing view;) I doubt why such an amazing restaurant only have 3.9stars on Google? Is nowadays people doesn’t know how to judge what good food and service is?
Zhou H — Google review
Honestly feel fairly let down with the food, had a squid grill which was overcooked and chewy my partner had ‘the lobster’ as named in the menu which actually turned out to be a small half a lobster. These two dishes were the most highly priced on the menu and were possibly the worst. Service and location were great however.
Tom B — Google review
We made reservations few days earlier, the restaurant was clean and beautiful, but almost empty. The food was mediocre, no issues with service as we were one of just 3 occupied tables, 10€ cocktails, nothing memorable . Portion sizes were huge.
Jamal K — Google review
The tuna was completely raw. We told the manager but nothing happened. In the end, an additional 6 euros was billed for napkins and a couple of loaves of bread (2 pax)??? despite the fact that we did not order it. Very inconvenient and arrogant service. Never goes back.
Sirle K — Google review
My mom and I had a great day! We reserved by paying through paypal the day before we arrived. We enjoyed the comfortable chairs but did feel it was a bit overpriced. However, we are thankful we got to visit!
Haleigh S — Google review
Quiet beach spot with 10-12 places for campers, staid the night and swam in beautiful clear warm sea.. lots of old plastic on beach sadly..

Okay I’m happy to share more information. Everyone around us were served before us, even though they came up to 20 minutes later than we did. It seems that you guys spend more attention to the ones who were Italian or spend a lot of money. We waited more than one hour for three pizzas. In the end I had two bottles of wine at my bill which wasn’t a big deal at all, but kinda symbolic for that lunch we had at your place. The one star is for the usher man in the front. He is professional.

Castrum Romano Park is a captivating destination that transports visitors back to the Roman era, nestled in the historic town of Porto Torres. This park showcases remarkable ancient ruins, including stunning mosaics and a well-preserved Roman bridge, highlighting its rich history as a vital trading hub. The park is not just about history; it offers an engaging experience for all ages. Kids can enjoy dressing up as Roman legionnaires and interacting with friendly animals on-site.
Amazing place. I have a few friends who are into LARP and Living History and as soon as the owner started telling us about this project I instantly recognized the same kind of contagious passion. I hope the Castrum can keep growing and helping people get in touch with their inner Roman many years to come! This part of the review was written by my 10-year-old: We liked it very much because there are animals and you can dress up like a roman legionnaire. We also found a pizza-eating cat (we're not sure if he/she was supposed to eat it, but it was cool). :)
Marie P — Google review
We had an hour to fill on our way to the airport and wanted to do something fun with the kids. This was the PERFECT stop! The animals were charming and the Roman Castrum was well done and very informative. Our guide was amazing! Very engaging and well-versed in the subject matter. The entire park is beautiful and it’s very relaxing just to be there. Both kids and parents would have stayed all day if we had had more time!
Kelly F — Google review
This was the best day! This park is a little out of the easy but 100% worth it! We spent hours here. There were beautiful animals, Roman forts, recreations of how they lived and so much more! We will definitely come back! The family that owns the park could not be kinder! ❤️
Renae H — Google review
Can't rate this experience highly enough. Went twice, first time out of curiosity. The attention to detail of the fort and models of Roman life is exceptional. The second time we went back to see the mock battle between the Romans and the Barbarians. It was very entertaining and made all the more enjoyable by the enthusiasm of the warriors and in particular the owner Max. The food at the battle was very reasonable and delicious. DON'T MISS THIS EXPERIENCE it's well worth the visit for adults and children. Worth the trip from Doolin in Ireland.

Fantastic place to make history come to life. Very passionate owner and staff that helps you with information and guides you around. Good spots for a picnic and they sell coffee, cold drinks and ice cream.
John S — Google review
If you visit ,get the main guy there to give you a tour of the Roman Fort he has made himself. He is very informative and a really cool guy. With a wee animal farm and a lovely grassy area it is perfect for kids to while away 2 or 3 hours. Take a packed lunch as there is picnic areas and BBQ facilities.
A T — Google review
Extraordinary experience! We found this place randomly on Google Maps, and it turned out to be one of our favourite visits in Sardinia. It's a recreation of a Roman camp, including a farm with lots of animals. The hosts are great, gave us explanations of the life of a Roman soldier, and we had a pleasant conversation with them. Highly recommend. Regards from Spain and Croatia.
Natalia L — Google review
We took the short drive to a reconstructed Roman marching fort now used as a museum and living history exhibit. There was also a small animal zoo too. The camp was quite small but had all the elements laid out to show what life would have been like for the soldiers with plenty of information boards in English too. We had a quick run through by Mattheo and then wandered on our own. The models in the museum were great and had real attention to detail and showed how the Romans built bridges and roads using the technology of the day. We had a demonstration of firing a ballista too and then had a chat about the summer camps they run to educate kids about their history. The animal park had a good selection of animals but we didn't have any food for them so, other than the dog, they weren't that interested in us! Goats are fascinating creatures too.

Located near Porto Torres, the Necropolis of Su Crucifissu Mannu is a fascinating archaeological site with a rich history. The area features Roman-era structures, including an impressive seven-arched bridge that was in use until the mid-20th century. Additionally, visitors can explore the Tanca Borgona necropolis, which contains 32 mausoleums with frescoes and mosaics, as well as 50 tombs and catacombs dating back to early Christian times.
Interesting archealogical site believed to be a necropolis. Unground structures and tunnels carved out of the rock. Worth a visit, open area, no ticket required.

Interesting site. A piece of history available to everyone who’s willing to make the trip here. A quick note that entrance to this site is only via SS131 from Sassari.
Lorraine T — Google review
Just amazing! A total bugger to get to by public transport, but possible by bus and some sketchy walking on a busy road, no path! Bring a torch and knee pads if you really want to get into the tombs. They say the ruts are Roman but they are cut into by some of the tombs, so I'd say the ruts are older. Whatever, there are heaps of paths so take your time, enjoy, don't get lost or stuck or break your arm, and say hello to the Hermanns tortoises lurking.
Brad D — Google review
Enter via the dirt road from the Sassari-Porto Torres motorway (the other direction is closed). Pretty well kept site despite no fees or services. Remains of roman time roadways and ancient burial sites. Def. Worth the trip.

Absolutely beautiful place, best to be visited in the evening or morning - there might be a chance you would be completely alone. No tickets, no opening hours, but probably the most interesting necropolis we have visited so far.

Pretty cool place but I would consider this an "on the way trip." It is on a dirt road, and parking was not difficult. We stopped at agritourismo restaurant near by and this place popped right up. It's is a small hiking event. I'd be cautious with small children as they can fall right through the holes in the ground. But their are about a dozen catacombs to look at. Overall it was pretty interesting and a decent place to take photos, and look at the mountains.

The Hotel Balai Sardegna is a charming establishment offering well-lit, uncomplicated accommodations that may boast glimpses of the ocean. Situated in a serene setting, this recently constructed lodging enjoys an advantageous placement near the sea. The hospitable staff members are both amiable and supportive, ensuring guests feel welcome throughout their stay. The rooms themselves are immaculate and sanitary, while breakfast options cater to diverse preferences. This remarkable hotel comes highly recommended for its favorable location and exceptional qualities.
Beautiful new hotel with great location near the sea, very kind and helpful personel, rooms are very clean, varied breakfast. 100% recommend! Greetings from Poland!

It's a hostel rather than a hotel. And the breakfast was not a buffet but instead, it was a closed small menu in a bar 100m away "due to covid", we didn't know about that in advance. Everything was clean though.

(Translated by Google) I spent my holidays in this facility, and I had a very good time. Hotel has free parking. The common room where there is a fridge, freezer, microwave, plates and cutlery, I would say this is a very comfortable thing. The room is equipped with a minibar and air conditioning, there is enough space to put your stuff (I had brought a car full of stuff 😅). The very kind and helpful staff, especially the girl at the reception Alice, had suggested many things to me, which were of great help to me. Breakfast was taken at the bar about 200 meters from the hotel, and I would say not bad, so you could enjoy the sea view with a cup of coffee 😜 And the most important thing: the hotel is located a few steps from the most beautiful beach in Porto Torres 😊 (Original) Ho fatto le mie vacanze in questa struttura, e mi sono trovata molto bene.

There is a common area where you can hang out your swimsuit and a terrace where you can have breakfast outdoors with your own food. Very friendly and helpful staff! The fridge and freezer in the living room are shared with the other rooms, a nice idea would be to give a bag with the room number to be able to manage the fridge better! (Translated by Google) It is a hotel with a good location, near the sea and with views of it. It has free parking but it is not a great hotel for the price we paid for two nights/2 people (approximately €159) The room is very small and the pillows are very thin for our taste. It had a closet and a table/desk and the bathroom shower was very small. It was forbidden to eat in the room and to compensate they had plenty of space near the reception to eat (indoor and outdoor) and they also had a large refrigerator so anyone could put their things in (we didn't put anything in). They had a coffee maker, sauces, etc. The girl at the reception was very friendly, she showed us and explained everything and recommended nearby places to eat. The room in general, for our taste, was not very nice, but we were able to spend our first 2 nights well in Porto Torres. (Translated by Google) I stayed at this hotel for three nights, and I absolutely disagree with many of the negative reviews. I found the room to be clean and welcoming, with excellent air conditioning, a shower and bathroom that were both spacious and spacious, a minibar in the room (which is always a real plus), ample private parking available on the premises, and, most importantly, a beach just steps away, a truly strategic location. The only negative, in my opinion, was the complete lack of availability for a slightly later check-out (11am instead of 10am) for personal reasons. I formally requested this at the beginning of my stay by email, then verbally, but received a firm no. Staff were already knocking on the door at 10:10am, even though check-in was scheduled for 3pm, and there wasn't a soul waiting at reception. I would recommend reviewing just this part, which can really make a difference, especially if the guest emphasizes how important it is. Other than that, nothing to complain about!

Antiquarium Turritano ed Area Archeologica is a captivating site that houses a gallery showcasing artifacts from numerous excavations. The area also features the Roman bridge, an impressive engineering feat that spans the Mannu river mouth and has stood the test of time. Additionally, visitors can explore Tanca Borgona, an ancient necropolis with mausoleums, frescoes, mosaics, and tombs dating back to early Christianity.
What an amazing place to visit. The museum and its artefacts are so interesting and the information gives a real insight into Roman life. The guided view of the sight was an experience I would not have missed! The must go to place in Porto Torres. The ladies on the reception were so lovely and caring making sure we didn't miss anything. I would have liked to take them home ! Thank you for an amazing experience.

We wanted to visit the archaeological site. All the signs and google business info says the admission is between 9am to 4pm and the last admission is at 3pm. We were told at the entrance that we aren’t allowed to visit the site and the only possible admission would be at 3pm. Really strange, because all the signs (different ones, not only one) clearly states something different. Too bad, we would have really loved to visit the archeological site…

You need to join the tour to see the outside area. There seems to be just one afternoon tour - at 3pm. Returned at 2.40pm and paid 8 euros for my ticket. At 2.45pm it started to rain. Two of the three staff came to the door, opened it and gesticulated at the weather and declared the tour would be cancelled due to rain. It stopped after 5-7 minutes so I assumed the tour would still go ahead. Unfortunately it seemed IT WAS TOO DANGEROUS to even set foot outside. This seemed a bit of overreaction given that some areas were paved. I did notice the only time the three staff (responsible for all 5 visitors) showed any animation was when cancelling the tour and they otherwise looked pretty miserable. I was refunded 3 euros so spent 5 euros for10 minutes looking at some rather dull cabinets of archeological findings hence the two stars. The outdoor area looked interesting but check the clouds before handing over any money!

Parco Archeologico di Turris Libisonis is a must-see destination in Sardinia, as it's the only Roman colony on the island. The site offers a fascinating glimpse into the Roman history of Sardinia, with beautiful mosaics and a collection of items discovered at the Colonia Iulia Turris Libisonis.
Very cool museum about a Roman bath house. Very informative with audio tour. However what makes this museum stand apart is that you only can visit the excavation site with a guide. Fantastic! 45 minutes tour with explanation. After the tour we even got 4 booklets about Sardinië and her history..... For free... They refused our donation as we bought the tickets they said... Never had such a lovely museum and excavation visit. Highly recommended!

Both the museum and the actual ruins were very interesting. There's a lot there- well worth the visit. 7€ for both. The ladies at the desk were so friendly and kind as I tried to communicate with my very little Italian, mixed with Spanish and aided by Google Translate. 😂

I refuse to give an archaeological site one star because the worl they do is priceless, but we drive 40 minutes just to see this and they wouldn't let us visit the outdoors area but it was raining very slightly. No judgement, but so nonsensical
Marc Q — Google review
Turris Libisonis was the only Roman colony on the island, meaning that all inhabitants were Roman citizens which was extremely important in the early Imperial period. We parked at the port and crossed the road to the museum. Access to the archeological site itself is only on an escorted tour for safety reasons so we had an hour in the museum before the next tour. That was longer than I'd liked but the staff were lovely and the museum had some interesting exhibits. Roman glass is always impressive and the thinness of the examples here was quite amazing. The excavated ruins were ok and there were some very good mosaics which gave an idea of the interior decor enjoyed by the wealthy merchant families at the height of the Empire. The site is quite large and a lot has been swallowed up by the modern town and the railway line was also cut through it. There is an intact Roman bridge just round the corner too which looks like it is being restored. I think there were more staff on this little site than in all the English Heritage sites I have visited this year!

My objectibe was to guve only 5 stars at any review, but here unfortunately it was impossible. The site seems to be huge and interesting (we do not really know) and the lady at the entrance was ok, but the management and the program sucks. You are not aloud to visit the site alone and there are only three tours a day, at 10.00, 12.00 and 15.00. We arrived at 12.05 and we were not allowed to join the group. They speak only italian anyway. It is also a small museum at the entrance of the archeological park which we were allowed to visit. Still, some of us were so disapointed that decided not to enter. I visited it and I feel like I lost my time. It is only one mosaic with a funeral inscription, not realy impresive. I should suggest the management to chamnge the rules and let people visit the site alone, maybe a smaller enclosure if not the entire site. The price for the museum was 4 Euro, for the site 4 Euro, and for both 7 Euro.

(Translated by Google) A small but picturesque church nestled in the pleasant panorama offered by the seafront promenade. Its dating is uncertain; after an initial hypothesis that it was built much more recently, it is believed to have been built towards the end of the seventeenth century. It is dedicated to the saints Gavino, Proto, and Gianuario, who are particularly venerated in Sardinia. Their story was passed down only orally for centuries; there are also differing versions, so its reliability is questionable, but it is approximately as follows. In 303 AD, the Roman Emperor Diocletian issued orders to combat the spreading Christian religion. Barbaro, the governor of the two islands, enforced this order in Corsica and Sardinia. In Porto Torres, he had the priest Proto and the deacon Gianuario arrested for refusing to renounce their religion. For this, they were sentenced to death, but the soldier Gavino, their jailer, let them escape. The enraged governor ordered his beheading on October 25, 303 AD. First, a woman gave him a veil to blindfold him. When she returned home, her husband returned the bloodstained veil to her. He had met Gavino, who had asked him to return it and thank her, but this was not possible because he was already dead. Gavino also appeared to the two fugitives, demanding that they surrender to the authorities. They complied with his request and were also beheaded on October 27, 303 AD, on the site where the small church of "Balai Lontano" now stands. In the Middle Ages, Gavino appeared to a leper, asking him to find their bodies and provide them with a better burial. The leper went to the Roman underground necropolis where this church, called "Balai Vicino," now stands. He found the bodies, and he was cured of leprosy. The Basilica of San Gavino was built in the city center, and they were buried there. On May 3rd, wooden statues of the three martyrs are transferred in procession from the basilica to this church, which is opened for pilgrimage. On Pentecost, the reverse procession takes place.

Beach Acque Dolci is a small yet popular strip of coastline in Porto Torres, easily accessible from the city. The name "Acque Dolci" refers to natural springs in the seabed, and the beach features crystal-clear waters with small stretches of sand alternating with stones and rocks. Visitors can enjoy live music at a bar on the beach in the evenings, along with amenities such as showers and chemical toilets.
Not the best beach ever but so close to our fairy. So we spent the day here until it was time to bord. There was a little booth that sold drinks and ice cream which was great for the children. The staff there was really nice too. We had fun snorkeling 🤿 since we saw a lot of fish 🐟. The kids climbed on the rocks and it was not too crowded. The sand is ok but we’ve seen better. (Translated by Google) The photos circulating on Google are those of the necropolis of Su Crucifissu Mannu, also in Porto Torres, but they have nothing to do with the tombs in via Libio (in the photo!) which are in the city centre, inside a building, since they were found while the foundations of condominium garages were being laid! The best part is that the garages were built anyway!! After all, the entire Porto Torres stands on a pre-existing Roman city, which in turn stood on settlements that go back in time to the pre-Nuragic age. I recommend visiting them because they give an idea of what really exists underground in this ugly industrial city! Let's say right away that the 3.50 ticket, in my opinion, is a little high, because the portion of the cemetery that can be seen is very small: currently the skeletal remains of a child and some decorations are visible which, however, are disappearing! The bizarre thing is that these catacombs are located inside a room: a sort of pub restaurant, with the lady at the counter who gives the guided tours! Strange example of collaboration between public and private, which nevertheless has the merit of making a site of historical-artistic interest usable, otherwise destined to disappear under flows of concrete, as happened to 99% of this cemetery area!

(Translated by Google) The place is beautiful but abandoned to neglect and rude people. Rubbish everywhere, under the only table available near the entrance a sea of paper, cans and waste of all kinds despite there being containers (unlike other parts of the town where they are scarce). Things are no better in the flowerbeds and other parts of the park. Some games have loose bolts, the butts are countless. Really a big shame. Unfortunately, the rubbish problem throughout Porto Torres is very evident and I can't believe that nothing is being done to solve it. The Chiesa di Santu Bainzu Ischabizzaddu, also known as Balai Lontano Church, offers a unique perspective at the culmination of a picturesque bike path in Italy. Despite its somewhat neglected state, similar to the rest of the city, this church captivates with its splendid surroundings. However, it is worth noting that the given name for this church is incorrect; it should be called Chiesa di Balai Lontano instead.
Simple church situated next to the street which leads from Porto Torres to Platamona, Sorso, Castelsardo... it is a very popular peak as the walking path was built around it and many people use it for walks or runs. It offers an unique view at the Asinara bay and the Platamona beaches. The church is closed to public though

(Translated by Google) This Church is called Santu Bainzu Ischabizzaddu in the Sassari language which means Beheaded San Gavino. It was built on a limestone ridge where history has it that the three martyrs were beheaded; San Gavino, Proto and Gianuario in October 303 AD. C. The story speaks of San Gavino, the Turritan martyr together with the other two saints who were always accompanied by Proto the bishop and Gianuario. There is a narrative dating back to the 12th century written in Cagliari by a Victorine Monk entitled "legend of San Saturnino" in which the stories of the three Sardinian martyrs are found. In short, in those distant times the three martyrs outraged the Gods only because they were Christians and recognized no other god than Christ our Lord. For this reason they were led to the place where their fate was to be fulfilled and were beheaded at the sacred commands of the emperors who wanted their death.

A cycle and pedestrian path connects this little church to its 'city sister', namely Balai Vicino (or San Gavino al Mare), located a couple of km away. Both are very simple, small and very white, and stand out against the white cliffs and the blue of the sea. Since they are almost always closed, it is worth stopping for just a few minutes to admire the context! Torre di Abbacurrente is a captivating Aragonese tower that dates back to the 16th century, beautifully restored in 2009. Nestled along the stunning coastline between Porto Torres and Platamona, this approximately 12-meter tall structure served as a signal tower, manned by soldiers in its heyday.
