Located in the charming seaside community of Ucluelet, the Ucluelet Aquarium is Canada's first collect-and-release aquarium. It showcases a variety of fish and invertebrates found in the Barkley and Clayoquot Sounds. The aquarium offers an up-close look at local marine wildlife and provides educational programs and events for visitors. The passionate staff creates an engaging, hands-on experience for both kids and adults, aiming to educate them about the West Coast's ocean ecosystem.
My family really enjoyed this little aquarium! Especially nice: everything is local, so you can combine it with your visit to a tidepool and know more about of what you are seeing. Personal favorites for me were the shimmering blue seaweed (Turkish Towel, I think?) which we also got to see over at Big Beach, the giant hermit crab getting cranky with the fish in front of it, and the flounder burying itself in the sand. Street parking was somewhat limited but we found a spot (and it was free). There's also a small playground across the street.

We love visiting the Ucluelet Aquarium every year to see their new developments. The staff, along with the guidance of the Indigenous community, create an intriguing environment for their temporary visitors of the surrounding waters, allowing visitors the opportunity to see them up close and personal. Terrific learning experience for all ages. The artisan section is also fantastic!
Jennifer O — Google review
This small but mighty aquarium was such a treat. It's not very big but they pack a lot into the small pace. Lots of tanks with various sea life. Multiple touch tanks for the kids to explore. And they had an octopus there! I love that none of the sea life stay there - they all get released back into ocean. I highly recommend a visit if you're in the area.
Liz C — Google review
It’s small but don’t let that fool you. I saw some of the best exhibits of sea life from the local area. They were such amazing little eco systems in each with so much to watch and learn about. The critters are only there part of the year and that put back into the waters they were found so the tanks will always be changing. The staff were great - friendly and knowledgeable and eager to share with people. I think it was an awesome visit. Definitely a must go
Ange D — Google review
For a small little place it has a lot to offer. The volunteers are amazing and super friendly. The touch tanks are great and they have things that we have never seen before. We drove over from Parksville and it was totally worth the drive.
Kelly H — Google review
My wife LOVES this place!!!!! The touch tanks are very cool. We like that they collect their display creatures at the start of the season and release them back into the same locations at the end of the season. You could spend the whole day just watching the octopus.
Bruce H — Google review
The aquarium was on the smaller side for the price, but I felt the cost was worthwhile as a way to support the local community while visiting. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, and the touch tanks were a fun, interactive feature. I especially appreciated learning that the marine life is caught and then released after a few months — it’s reassuring to know the animals aren’t kept there permanently.
Julia D — Google review
Small but Mighty — A Gem of Ucluelet The Ucluelet Aquarium might be small, but it’s truly mighty. Every exhibit features marine life collected locally — all within about 5 km of the aquarium — and everything is part of a catch-and-release program, which makes the experience even more meaningful. The staff are passionate, knowledgeable, and clearly love what they do. On a rainy November day, I was expecting a quiet visit, but instead found the aquarium bustling with visitors from across the country. It was a wonderful surprise and a reminder of how special this place is. I wish them nothing but continued success — the Ucluelet Aquarium is a must-see stop on the coast!

Hiking Trails
The Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet is a famous trail that winds along the rugged northwest coastline, offering stunning scenery and views of an early 1900s lighthouse. Carved into the rugged, ocean-lashed shoreline, this trail was carefully planned and offers hikers breathtaking ocean vistas, expansive sandy beaches, and wind-twisted trees. It's important to be cautious of the powerful ocean, especially during winter stormwatching season.
The ocean views and lush forests are breathtaking. The trail is easy to follow and offers a peaceful, beautiful hike for all skill levels. Definitely a must do!
Ella L — Google review
Easy, well marked and packed trail. Stunning ocean views around every corner. Lots of rest areas and spots for pictures.
MJLB — Google review
Awesome views of the rugged coastline with multitudinous lookouts and benches for enjoying them. Pristine, well maintained and top notch in every way!
George S — Google review
A fantastic trail, with numerous wonderful little places to stop and watch the water. It would rate a 5 if you're already nearby, but wasn't quite worth driving over from the east coast for.
Barry D — Google review
The Wild Pacific Trail currently traces about eight kilometers of the rugged shore along the western coast of Vancouver Island. Starting in Ucluelet, the trail follows the impressive, picturesque and sometimes dramatic shoreline and passes the Ancient Cedars just outside of Ucluelet. The shoreline itself is also abundant with birds and marine wildlife. Interpretive signs along the trail provide additional information on the ecosystems and the animals. Most parts of the Wild Pacific Trail are easily accessible, some parts are moderately steep. Parking lots with toilets are provided along the trail. We started at the Amphitrite Lighthouse and walked along the Lighthouse Loop. Maps with additional information are provided.
Florian M — Google review
Absolutely beautiful views! Lots of benches in picturesque spots. The trail is relatively easy. There are some short cuts (bypass with a picture of a stroller, though I wouldn’t say that the trail is stroller friendly). Bio toilets are on parking lots. Parking is free.
RJ — Google review
The Wild Pacific Trail is an absolute gem! The breathtaking ocean views, lush coastal rainforest, and the sound of waves crashing against the rocks make this trail a truly unforgettable experience. The well-maintained paths and clear signage make it accessible for all fitness levels. I especially loved the viewpoints along the way, which offer perfect spots to take in the stunning scenery or snap some photos. It's also a great place to spot wildlife—I saw eagles and even a few seals offshore! Whether you're looking for a peaceful stroll, an inspiring hike, or just a chance to connect with nature, the Wild Pacific Trail delivers. I highly recommend making this a priority if you're in the Ucluelet area!
Hashmeet S — Google review
Beautiful scenery. Breath-taking views. If you get a chance on a good clear day stay for the sunset. Great trail for kids with benches for little breaks. Lighthouse loop is about 3 km.

Lighthouses
Amphitrite Point Lighthouse, located at the end of a scenic walking trail, offers stunning ocean views. Despite its simple appearance, it has a rich history as the keepers had to trek daily to light and maintain the lamp. The lighthouse is part of the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet, which provides an 8 km coastal hike with beautiful scenery. Visitors can also enjoy panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and witness breathtaking sunsets from this vantage point.
Honestly, it’s an amazing place for a walk, but when I was there, the path to the sea near the lighthouse was closed — it was marked “Staff Only.” Still, there are lots of trails to explore and informational signs along the way. I would probably recommend coming here at sunrise, just for about half an hour. Overall, it’s a beautiful place, but you should know that there’s a full trail system, and Google Maps might take you to the start of the trail. To get to the lighthouse from there, you’ll have to walk 7 km, so be careful. It’s better to drive directly to the lighthouse — there’s a small parking lot. Of course, if you enjoy hiking, you can walk there from any point along the trail, but it will take a lot of time.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Amphitrite Lighthouse is an incredible spot, especially for storm watching! 🌊🌬️ The views of the wild Pacific are absolutely breathtaking, and you can really feel the power of the ocean from here. The waves crashing against the rugged rocks create an unforgettable experience. The trail leading to the lighthouse is well maintained, easy to walk, and surrounded by beautiful coastal scenery. Even on a stormy day, it felt safe and accessible. The lighthouse itself is small but iconic, and the setting makes it feel very special. If you’re in Ucluelet, this is a must-visit whether you want a peaceful walk on a calm day or to witness the dramatic stormy seas. Highly recommend bringing a good rain jacket and camera.
Christo C — Google review
The path is well maintained and lined with plenty of benches to soak in the beautiful views. Some sections were a bit busy with other visitors mostly near scenic lookouts, but all in all quiet. I took a trailhead down to the beach and there were lots of little marine creatures in the tide pools. It was a great mix of forest, and shoreline. The best part was watching an eagle soar overhead.
Wendy D — Google review
Beautiful and iconic lighthouse with stunning coastal views. The walk to the lighthouse is short and scenic, making it easy for everyone to enjoy. Great spot for photos, watching waves crash against the rocks, and just taking in the ocean breeze. A must-visit if you’re exploring the Ucluelet area.
Val T — Google review
This historic lighthouse is located alongside a hiking trail with a picturesque ocean view. As part of the Wild Pacific Trail, you can follow the Lighthouse Loop, a 2.5km long circular trail around the peninsula on Barkley Sound in the Pacific Ocean. You can't get very close to the lighthouse, but the hiking trail along the coastline is beautifully laid out and rugged. The moss-covered trees and the view of the Pacific are impressive.
Florian M — Google review
the views! So ruggedly beautiful. The Whistle buoy makes it's ominous sounds with the waves. The lighthouse is pretty cool, amazing walking trails. Some may not be suitable for unsteady people. We'll maintained, bathrooms available, easy parking & quick walk to lighthouse.

Really nice spot to visit! The rocks are incredibly rugged and the hike has many beautiful vistas. Great way to spend a couple hours in Ukee!

Arrived early before “official open” but they were there ready, parked first and walked around this incredible place before the crowds turned up. My first visit was 1973 with my parents. This was my 4th time. As always a beautiful spot

The Thornton Creek Enhancement Society operates a non-profit salmon hatchery that releases 100,000 salmon into local waterways each spring. Visitors can learn about the life cycle of salmon and observe wildlife, including black bears. The interpretive and viewing center provides information on salmon enhancement projects and hatchery operations. Volunteers are knowledgeable and may show visitors live salmon in tanks for spawning. The society relies on donations to continue their conservation efforts, making it a great place to support while enjoying the natural beauty and wildlife.
Great place to visit to learn about the life cycle of salmon as well as hopefully spotting a bear or two. The guy working there was super friendly, really knowledgeable and took the time out to come and speak with us and explain the workings. He was also always on the lookout for a bear for us and just before we left we lucked out and one appeared out of the bush. Don’t forget to leave a tip if visiting! Due to the change in climate it’s been a difficult few years for anybody in the fisheries industry.
Ady J — Google review
This is a non-profit salmon hatchery, which happens to also be a great location for observing wildlife, including black bears. The volunteers may be able to show you some of the salmon they are holding the tanks for spawning; when we were there, they were tossing live salmon back into the estuary, to the delight of kids watching. There is a very small visitor center with a handful of displays. We visited in late October 2023 and were blessed to see a mother and cub black bear foraging on salmon carcasses. In addition, we saw a sea lion that swam up the estuary before being chased away by the bear! I chatted for a while with the manager, Dave, who was very knowledgeable and friendly. He told us that in 10 years, he had never before seen a sea lion in the estuary, so perhaps don’t get your hopes up on that!
Erik L — Google review
This was our favorite out of five hatcheries we visited on Vancouver Island in late September. We did not see a bear (I think we were a little early in the season). But the scenery here is lovely and the hatchery staff very welcoming and happy to answer questions.
Julie M — Google review
Worth the visit and the chance to see bears! We weren’t so lucky in the bear department, but the fish were pretty neat to see and the staff were very informative and kind with any questions we had. It’s a pretty spectacular thing they are doing. Really appreciate the experience and knowledge gained.
Ashley “ — Google review
Very lovely place. You will learn a lot about the fishes and their abilities like changing their color for matching the surroundings. The people are doing an important job and you will learn why. We can highly recommend to spent some time here :)
Marcel B — Google review
Bumpy dirt road to get there but well worth it for a chance to see bears in natural habitat. You have to stay within the fenced area for saftety. Plan for multiple visits for sighting. It's very serene and beautiful to nature watch, even if you don't catch the bears at the right time. Limited parking.
V L — Google review
Fantastic spot to see bears very close if you are lucky enough to be around when they wander in from the forest to feed from the Salmon from waterfall pools next to the hatchery. Super friendly staff chat to help achieve this and pass time pleasantly..waiting for a bear or two.
Graham G — Google review
what an amazing place! after 2 months traveling everywhere without seeing even one bear, we saw there one big black bear eating fish, and a mother and a cub on the tree. just amazing. they don't charge for the entry, it is by donation which is highly recommended to donate so they could keep with their great work.

Brewery
Ucluelet Brewing Company is a must-visit for craft beer enthusiasts in the area. Located on the waterfront, it offers stunning views and a warm atmosphere. The brewery takes pride in being part of Vancouver Island's craft beer community and is led by Head Brewer Allan, an active figure in the Pacific Northwest craft beer culture. Visitors appreciate the helpful staff who cater to diverse tastes, making it baby-friendly as well.
The Stout That Punched Me in the Soul Walked into Ucluelet Brewing Company thinking I’d have a casual beer. Walked out questioning my life choices in the best possible way. That stout? Absolute sorcery. Smooth, dark, rich, and by far the strongest I’ve ever had. Not strong like “oh I feel this,” but strong like “am I about to write poetry on a driftwood log?” I took one sip and immediately felt like I could wrestle a bear. Or at least a raccoon with attitude. You don’t drink this stout. You experience it. Somewhere between the second and third sip I reached enlightenment. By the fourth, I considered calling my ex just to apologize for not being more emotionally available. It hit so hard I’m pretty sure Chuck Norris himself nodded in respect. This isn’t just a beer. It’s a black belt in a glass. On top of the beer-induced spiritual awakening, the vibe here is incredible. Warm wood beams, killer ambiance, and friendly staff who somehow knew I needed water without asking. Ten out of ten. Would absolutely get drop-kicked by that stout again. Cheers.
Jacques B — Google review
The grilled cheese sandwich was pretty good, but I was disappointed in the ketchup. And the salad was tiny for $14. I just expected more. The seafood dip was a strange concoction. I wasn’t a fan of the smoked salmon inside the dip. I enjoyed my beer while looking out for bears.
Ryan L — Google review
A great local brewery in Ucluelet, BC, conveniently located on Main Street with scenic views. The beer is flavorful and worth a try. Don’t miss this spot if you’re visiting and want to enjoy a drink with a view of Ucluelet.
Esther C — Google review
The atmosphere here was excellent. I can’t comment on the food because I didn’t have any, but the beer flights were very fun! A somewhat limited menu, but really good and local beer. Awesome view when sitting outside!
Kate S — Google review
The atmosphere was good. The service good. The food was tasty, but there was a limited selection available as they’d sold out of 6 dishes on their menu, and it’s a limited menu to start with. It forced us to order something I probably would have never ordered and thankfully the items ordered were very flavourful. Beer was good. I’ll go back.
Lupi S — Google review
Great spot to have drinks with a view! They were out of several menu items when we went which was unfortunate but we still enjoyed what we ordered. The hummus was delicious but it would be even better with some fresh veggies.
Sydney C — Google review
This very welcoming and friendly craft beer brewery resides in the former St. Aiden’s Church ..the Ucluelet harbor can be viewed from the brewery patio…our beer and snacks were very delicious ….the pub is situated in the heart of this very engaging community of Ucluelet..

Ordered take-out and got a very lackluster $18 spinach and quinoa salad. About 1/3 the size we were expecting. Have eaten inside before with no issues, so maybe it was just a one-off?

The Ucluelet Lighthouse Loop is a must-visit in the town of Ucluelet, offering an easy 1.5-mile trail along the stunning coastline and through evergreen forests. The loop leads to the Amphitrite Point lighthouse, providing breathtaking views of sunrises and sunsets, as well as opportunities for whale watching during springtime.
A stunning and peaceful coastal trail! The Ucluelet Lighthouse Loop is an absolute must-do. The trails are beautifully maintained and easy to follow, with plenty of parking available nearby. It’s dog-friendly, which made our walk even more enjoyable. There are benches along the way to sit and take in the breathtaking ocean views, and just the right amount of shade when you need a break from the sun. The mix of forest and coastline makes for an unforgettable experience. A perfect way to enjoy the natural beauty of the area!
Breanna H — Google review
A truly spectacular trail, unmissable if you are going to Ucluelet. The trail is maintained to the highest standards, and there are views all the way round. The lighthouse has some info boards nearby, and you may be lucky and see some deer or eagles. It's just about the perfect walk for appreciating the beauty of this coastline. Enjoy!
Michael W — Google review
A must do if you visiting the Ucluelet area! The loop is about 45 minutes and fairly easy. You get to see the sturdy lighthouse, the thunder-crashing waves, beautiful ocean views, and amazing forest vista's with bent trees bowing down to the ferocious winds that frequent this area. You will want to stop for every Vista to take a breath and decompress to forget the city ad enjoy the wild. Kids will love this walk, and adults will cherish the peace. The new interpretive centre near the lighthouse is worth a stop to engage with the experts there, and don't forget to put some coin into the donation box on the loop trail.

A must-visit in Ucluelet! We walked the Wild Pacific Trail to see the iconic Amphitrite Point Lighthouse, and it was absolutely breathtaking. The trail is well-maintained, peaceful, and filled with stunning ocean views at every turn. You can really feel the raw beauty of the West Coast—the sound of the waves crashing, the smell of the sea breeze, and the serenity of nature all around. The lighthouse itself is such a beautiful reward at the end of the walk, standing strong against the rugged coastline. Perfect spot for photos, reflection, and just appreciating the moment. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Ucluelet—easy walk, unforgettable scenery! 🌊🌲✨
Sheika F — Google review
Spectacular trail with absolutely stunning views! The walk was easy and suitable for most people, and we found ourselves stopping at numerous viewpoints to admire the scenery. The weather was perfect, which made the experience even better. Definitely a trail worth doing if you’re in the area!
Maxim S — Google review
Must do hike when staying in Ucluelet! The Whale Parking Lot is within the loop of about 2,5km (and free, but not big). It's not too hard, little elevation. If you have a hard time walking uphill, start by going to the lighthouse and end at the bog. This way you'll be walking the steepest parts going downhill. You can choose to extend your route, by going to Terrace Beach for example (although I didn't find the beach very exciting). The rocks at the coast can be climbed at most places. This is fun! Take some time to let out you're inner child/rock climber. However, remember to be cautious of the waves.
Elske H — Google review
A beautiful trail which can be a bit more challenging if you take the side trips to the beach. Stunning ocean views, an excellent loop describing the bog and plenty of places to rest while admiring the ocean.

Located in the heart of Ucluelet, Jamie's Whaling Station offers ethical and eco-friendly wildlife tours. Despite not spotting any whales, visitors have seen bears, sea lions, sea otters, and harbour porpoises. The crew is known for their extensive local wildlife knowledge and dedication to conservation education. Guests have had amazing experiences on bear watching tours with friendly check-ins and helpful staff.
This is a well organized tour company. We did the whale and the bear watching trips. And though we saw no whales on the first trip (we saw two spouts in the distance, but did enjoy watching the sea otter) we did see 12 bears the next day on the bear watching tour. Our guide Fred from Germany was as excited as we were haha! Great fun! We broke his record and even saw a bear climb a tree!!
Charlie P — Google review
The start of an amazing day! Get up early to go Bear Watching in Ucluelet, you won’t regret it. It’s an early get away to catch bears foraging on the shoreline. Safety is paramount as you don the all weather flotation suits that make you look like an enormous traffic cone, but it keeps out the north coast Pacific chill perfectly. Captain Jo did a great job looking after us, going from one island to another, speeding along in the zodiac was a thrill, topped off by finding so many beautiful animals in their habitat. Being clearly relaxed or disinterested in our presence enabled us to find and spend a lot of time with these glorious creatures - 3 hungry Black Bears, 3 Harbour Seals, a playful Sea Otter, numerous bald Eagles, a Deer and a hummingbird. Would love a return visit when we’re next back.
Luis F — Google review
So amazing’ we lucked out with the best weather in weeks. We saw sea lions, otters, humpbacks and the spouts ! And a mamma bear and cub as we came back into the bay at the end of the tour. I guide was knowledgeable and skilled (I forget her name but she’s been sailing for Jamie’s for 5 years and does about 3 tours a day)
Amber-Lynn F — Google review
We booked a bear watching tour on the cruiser out of Ucluelet on Thanksgiving Monday and got lucky with some incredible weather. It was a well oiled machine and we were off on the boat in no time. We saw two different sets of mama bears with their cubs in tow as well as sea lions, seals and jellyfish. I liked the cruiser so we could get a break from the wind if needed and I imagine it would be wonderful on a rainy day. Our guide was nice but I wish he would have spoken more about the area we were in as well as the animals we were seeing, I felt like we had to ask questions constantly rather then hear him monologue about it. All in all, it was a great day on the water.
T T — Google review
We had a brilliant time on a covered boat tour from Ucluelet! Our skipper was skilled and knowledgeable, and we were able to spot 2 bears, seals, sealionss, many bald eagles and a sea otter on our trip! This was a great way to spot wildlife and the covered boat was suitable for all age, especially those with children. The back deck was open to all but the inside seats would be a welcome relief for those who prefer not to brave the elements for the entire trip.
Hltate1 — Google review
We went on the whale watching trip with captain Scott. Very quickly we ran into a couple of hump backs and spent a good time observing them. Then we went on to see sea lions, seals, otters and eagles. The captain was very experienced and knowledgeable and made our trip a great success.

We took tours from Tofino (whales, cruiser) and Ucluelet (bears, zodiac) and they were both superb. The staff are excellent throughout and you are assured a safe and enjoyable time, with plenty of narration as you go. You can't go wrong with Jamie's!

In Ucluelet, there are several dining options to explore, including Jiggers, The Blue Room, A West Coast Bistro, and Currents Restaurant. Jiggers is known for its signature fish and chips but also offers a diverse menu featuring burgers, chicken strips, and poutine. If you're craving seafood, the area has plenty of options including an oyster truck and local restaurants serving up fresh catches.
Wait was a little long to get fish and chips because of the line, but the taste was absolutely worth it. Fresh fish, amazing texture and taste from the batter, and flawless fries. Poutine was also exceptional.
Enrique — Google review
I recently tried the fish and chips here after hearing some good things. The portion size was generous, and everything was served hot and fresh. However, I found the fish to be a bit too crispy for my liking—almost over-crispy, which took away from the flavor and tenderness of the fish itself. The chips were decent, but overall, the dish didn’t quite live up to the expectations. Not bad, but not particularly memorable either.
Olga P — Google review
So good! Relaxed atmosphere, good music and even better food. Fish and chips was some of the best we had, not a heavy batter but so crispy and the fish was ling cod todays catch! The prawns are equally as fantastic!

Really fresh fish and chips! The fish is caught daily, and you can taste the difference. If you’re not a big eater, start with just one piece—the portions are generous, and the fish is huge. They don’t hold back on the fries either! Downside of this was it is bit too much greasy. The coleslaw was a must to wash down those grease.
Leah — Google review
Relaxed vibe just steps from the main road. Cod fillet fish and chips were tender and flaky, cooked exactly as ordered. They cook it fresh so it takes a few minutes to get it ready. Great spot in the heart of town with indoor and outdoor seating.
Sam R — Google review
Food truck serving fresh fish and chips. The batter was nice and light. The fries tasted like home made fries. Once salted the fries were great. The portion size was very generous. Being from Quebec, I was not impressed with the poutine, wrong cheese, wrong gravy, not approved. The plain fries are great just by themselves. Come early and be prepared to wait.
Alex D — Google review
Superb fish and chips!! Not overly battered and the homemade sauce was exceptional! Great sized portion left me full for the day!
Krista V — Google review
The fish comes out of a food truck (although there is indoor seating available) and is fresh, crispy and tasty... Plus, lots of locals seem to come here - so thats another good sign!

Love the vibes here, upbeat, casual, coastal cafe. They offer a lot of different coffee, tea options. It was pretty packed when I dropped in, seems liked by tourists and locals alike, my coffee and sandwich was very tasty.

We went there for breakfast a few times while in Ucluelet. Great coffee and nice food options - highly recommended... PS: They have a vegan bagel with tempeh bacon on the menu. Haven't seen that in North America yet...

The regular drip coffee + English muffin is an absolute must! Got a great vibe inside and the food and service is great. Came here twice for the exact same thing and it was just as good the second time! Bonus for a bathroom that actually looks pretty nice as well!

Good coffee and a cozy atmosphere. The Morning Glory muffin is really tasty — definitely worth trying if you stop by.

Had an incredible panini sandwich here. Definitely worth stopping for lunch. The bread was excellent. Ham top notch. Coffee was also great. Stop here for a bite to eat. Loved it.

Chill atmosphere. Bit of a wait due to being so busy. Had gluten friendly options that shared the same oven as all other food. Great coffee.

Paper cups in the café? The cappuccino was way too hot and the milk foam too stiff — others do this better ;) The photos on Google promise more.

The place was packed and for good reason! Dont worry about that line up because their staff move through those line ups with ease. We stopped here quite a few times on our stay. Great walking distance from the Wildwood Inn. Breakfast sandwiches and coffees were really great and hit the spot. Staff were great too.

The beach offers a tranquil atmosphere with beautiful sunset views and plenty of natural seating from logs. Visitors can also explore the area's natural features, including a stream visible at low tide.
Such a beautiful bay with a nice little beach to relax. We went there a few times with our boys who love to look for crab. It's really their happy place. There was a eagle flying around and it was very peaceful.

It's a cute little beach , I could see it be very busy. Loose dogs when I visited, but owners were very respectful of our on leash ones.

Never thought I'd get a warm ocean swim in, in Ucluelet. But it happened and it was sublime.
Cathy K — Google review
Beautiful little rocky beach. It was super quiet and had some nice sea glass. It was a nice place to watch the sunset and had lots of logs to sit on and enjoy the sun on. I imagine it is a great place to swim as it is relatively sheltered from the wind and the water is stunning. At the farthest end of the beach there is a little stream as well that is visible at low tide.

Hiking area
The Ancient Cedars Loop Trail is a convenient and easy 15-minute hike located just 3 minutes from central Ucluelet. It offers a peaceful escape from the bustling downtown area, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the tranquility of the old-growth forest. The trail connects with the Wild Pacific Trail and Rocky Bluffs, providing scenic coastal views and numerous lookout points. Visitors can admire the massive ancient cedars and spruce trees that evoke a sense of awe and humility.
We went on several hikes, all breathtakingly beautiful, but when I walked into this place I could smell the aroma of cedar and it drew me in. I'm utterly inspired and humbly grateful to have walked among some of the ancient trees endemic to The Wild Pacific Rim in Ucluelet, British Columbia.
Jennifer B — Google review
A great, entertaining experience, walking through the rainforest and taking in views of the coast from viewing platforms. Also suitable for children. There are info points and information boards highlighting the age and importance of the ecosystem. My family was impressed. The first part of the trail is easy to walk, but is not barrier-free.
Carsten — Google review
The loop itself is only about a 1km long with little elevation. The parking lot is next to the highway (parking is free, but it might be quite busy). From here there are two ways to enter the loop. If beginnen at the "Ancient Cedars Loop Trail" sign, you'll encounter the biggest trees at the beginnen of the walk. There are also some information signs in this first half of the walk. Halfway along the loop there's a possibility to enter another hiking path. This path allows you to walk along the coast. It's a fun little hike to add to your itinerary. It's amazing how old and big this trees can get.
Elske H — Google review
This is a well laid out and pretty easy walk among some beautiful scenery. When you get to the point where this trail intersects the coastal trail take a few minutes to walk to the spectacular ocean views. Parking is on the side of the highway so it can be congested at busy times.
Garth W — Google review
Just outside Ucluelet is the tall ancient cedar trees. This is a 15 minute loop and you can also go see the rocky bluffs if you want. The cedars were amazing. So tall! You could see how some of the cedars were culturally modified by the indigenous groups so that part of the tree could be used as planks without destroying the tree. The hike was a bit strenuous for me but I'm glad I did it. Good views of the cedars and the ocean from the bluffs.
Rizwan K — Google review
"Very quick trail, The biggest trees are at the start. I suggest going backwards. Start at the sign pointing to the main entrance just about 80 meters up the road, go over to the two Rocky bluff viewpoints then out the rest of the loop ending with the big trees. Lots of beautiful things and views."
Father H — Google review
Its an easy 1 km loop also offering you to go for a longer loop which has view points at places offering the an unique view of the beach. Have kids no problem, have elders no problem. I encountered every group of individuals in this trail which means its an easy and doable loop. There is just one honeybuck(portable restroom) at the start of loop . Overall its very interesting loop and guaranteed a pleasant experience.

Big Beach Picnic Park is a picturesque spot located at the intersection of Marine Drive and Matterson Drive. The 1-kilometer trail offers stunning views of the coastline and an ancient shipwreck to explore. While not ideal for swimming due to rocky shores, the rugged beauty, craggy rocks, and driftwood make it perfect for strolling or sunbathing. Kids can enjoy puzzles and a scavenger hunt that educates them about local wildlife.
Big Beach is small, but lovely. The trails are nice and the views along it are fantastic of the ocean, old growth, and greenery.
Sheila F — Google review
Beautiful beach that's great if you like clambering over rocks at low tide. The entrance to the beach has some fun puzzles and a scavenger hunt for kids that simultaneously educate them on local wildlife. Before the rocks there is a good amount of sandy/rocky beach with logs to sit on, and some large expanses of grass as well. There is even a shipwreck you can view!
Bronwyn K — Google review
Somewhat of a hidden gem, in comparison to the tourist-heavy Tofino beaches. Some sandy areas flanked by stunning, rocky shores. Great walking trail that goes through here along the beach. Only a few minutes walk from Ucluelet centre.
Graham C — Google review
You can't go to Ucluelet and not visit Big Beach. A stunning piece of oceanside with natural beauty. I could sit and watch the waves crash the black rock for hours. Protip: go during storm season to see what mother earth is really capable of. You'll appreciate all we have on this planet.
Marc B — Google review
The name does not lie; this place really is a big beach! Big beach is not quite like Long Beach or sorts closer to Tofino. Rather there are many more rocks and boulders, more logs, and more tall grass all around. There are also designated picnic spots! Fun fact: per the information signs at the beach, there is a fairly-hard-to-find ship wreck lying in the beach. Big beach provides a very Pacific Northwest feel in the sense that the ocean is in front of you, you're on a rocky beach filled with logs, and tall evergreen trees are behind you. Very limited parking.
Jason Y — Google review
Little Beach... Big Beach. Little rocks, large rocks, lots of rocks. Waves, trees and more waves then big mf trees. A couple hundred lookouts. Artist loops, old growth trails... I walked 14+km along the Wild Pacific Trail and back, it's all a blur now. My feet hate me but my heart thanks me. Here's a few pictures, I've earned a drink... or two. Peace.

Very nice beach. My family and I go there several times a year to enjoy the sunsets, waves and marine life. Fresh ocean air. And morning runs are perfect for this place. Thanks to the amazing Canadian nature.

I would 100% recommend Hello Nature for your kayak adventures! Kevin worked with me and my schedule to give me and my brother an amazing experience! Our guide Nolan was so excellent we are still talking about him! I went with no expectations as I have never done a trip like before and I was blown away! The food was fantastic, we saw eagles, sea lions, seals, a bear! If you are on the fence…say YES!!

We did a day kayaking tour to George Fraser Island with Hello Nature. Our guides Mick and Vince were wonderful - super knowledgeable about the area and they made sure the routes were best suited for our abilities. Equipment, lunch, gear - everything was top quality and extremely well planned out. We saw seals, bald eagles, jelly fish and deer along our tour. We had a fantastic time! Highly recommend Hello Nature to anyone planning to explore coastal BC.

Don't pass this opportunity up! The highly skilled and knowledgeable guides at Hello Nature can deliver excitement no matter your skill level or the tour you choose. My partner and I did a morning harbour tour with Tal, and we both agree that it was an absolute highlight of the trip. Thank you, Hello Nature!

Another MUST in Ucluelet. We spent a wonderful afternoon kayaking around the harbour, enjoying the incredible views with our great guides. Reina and Kat did a great job training us up, before leading us safely up, around and across the harbour and back. They explained the history the area, its importance to the First Nations, whilst we were enveloped by the majesty of the surroundings - I didn’t want it to end.

My husband and I did a three day Broken Group camping tour and could not be happier with the experience! The scenery was spectacular, the food far exceeded our expectations (gnocchi with pesto, fresh baked cookies, and the best egg sandwich I’ve ever had!), the gear provided made camping super comfortable, and our guide Mick went above and beyond to make sure we had an incredible time. We had one rainy day, but even paddling in the rain was a delight - and it made us appreciate the sunny days even more. I highly recommend this trip and Hello Nature - you’ll create memories that will last a lifetime.
Angie A — Google review
We had a great trip with Hello Nature. We did the lodge based trip, because we wanted the comforts of a warm shower and bed. The trip was great -- saw lots of wildlife, saw much of the Broken Islands group -- and enjoyed the company. Our guide did a good job of adapting to what the group wanted -- when she realized (and confirmed) that we all wanted to paddle quite a bit (6-8 hours out) then she quickly adapted the plan and dropped us further out. We had long paddles each day and saw a lot. Kevin was great in coordinating things, and even agreed to store our bikes while we were on the trip. Great company and will be back.
Greg H — Google review
We did the 5-day Broken Group kayak expedition with Hello Nature and it was fantastic! The guides were highly competent, very professional and focused on delivering a top-notch guest experience. They communicated well, provided kayaking options and managed the group very effectively. They were also keen to offer helpful paddling tips. The food was outstanding for a camping trip and overall it was a well organized and executed adventure! I highly recommend multi-day paddling trips with Hello Nature.

I have just finished a full day Broken Island kayaking trip and it has been a fabulous experience and worth every cent. I only called up and booked yesterday and they got me in today with 7 other friendly paddlers. They gave me a solo kayak as I wanted, rather than sharing. Everything was well run with a light touch , we were treated like sensible adults and our various skill levels respected and supported. Great scenery, lovely lunch, freshly brewed coffee. I commend Nolan and Mick for their knowledge, professionalism and friendliness. Thanks to all involved.

Thank you for amazing trip Paddle West! 🛶 Especially to our guide Katie - she was professional, fun, and full of great stories and information about Ucluelet, First Nations history, and local wildlife. She took us to a beautiful little beach where we had lunch. The weather was perfect, and the color of the water was absolutely stunning. The highlight was seeing little harbor seals popping up to say hi and we even spotted a bear and lots of eagles! What an amazing morning on the water. I’ll definitely recommend taking a tour with this company and Katie. I’ll be back for sure 😊

Such a great experience! Emily was an awesome guide – super friendly and knowledgeable. The harbour was beautiful to paddle around, and we were lucky enough to see a group of sea lions (very vocal!) and a baby bear on the shoreline, which was incredible. Felt really safe the whole time but also relaxed and fun. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Ucluelet!

Led by the brilliant Sophie, me, my wife Claire and another British couple set forth on a 4 hour ocean going kayaking tour from Ucluelet. Our initial nerves were out to bed very quickly and what followed was an absolute joy. Scenery to die for, sea lions, seals, eagles, jumping fish and dinner plate sized star fish abound. It was a super 4 hours, hugely enjoyable and very accessible for people our age (58) with little kayaking experience. Superb.
Chris E — Google review
I really enjoyed my kayak trip with Paddle West Kayaking and Luca was a great guide! The waves were too high in the open ocean so he took us on an extended tour of the inlet. He shared interesting information about the area and also pointed out a lot of wildlife. We were lucky enough to see three bears, a sea lion, a couple Harbour seals, and a bald eagle! Would 100% book again the next time I'm in Ucluelet!

I have paddled with you guys so often you really rock. It was very windy on Sunday and Lucas was very good to check in with all of the paddlers on their comfort level. He had to change course because of the wind at one point leading us to a beautiful beach for a rest. I never for a second felt unsafe under his guiding.

Terrace Beach is a peaceful and secluded beach backed by an evergreen forest, featuring tide pools and wildlife views. The Nest at The Cabins at Terrace Beach offers a larger modern cabin suitable for families, with ocean and forest views. This pretty sandy beach was historically used by the First Nations as a canoe beach, and an interpretive trail connects it to the Wild Pacific Trail, providing information on its history and local plants.
Terrace Beach is my favourite beach in Ucluelet. It has lots to look at, and is a perfect size in my opinion. There is sand but also pebbles to look through as well. There is a line of rocks going down the middle where you can look in tide pools to find anemones, sea stars, crabs, sea snails, and even little fish. The water is stunning and it's sheltered from the wind.
Bronwyn K — Google review
Beautiful and peaceful beach with soft sand and amazing ocean views. It’s not too crowded, which makes it perfect for relaxing, walking, or just enjoying the scenery. Great spot for sunsets and taking photos, and the surrounding area is quiet and scenic. Perfect for a low-key beach day in Ucluelet.

We made a spontaneous stop at Terrace Beach and it ended up being one of the highlights of our day in Ucluelet. The place is peaceful, clean, and beautifully tucked between the forest and the ocean. The water was too inviting to resist — good thing I had my swimwear with me! Had a refreshing dip before exploring the rest of Ucluelet, and it truly set the tone for a perfect West Coast adventure. If you’re visiting Ucluelet, this beach is a must-see. Calm, scenic, and perfect for a quick swim or a quiet moment with nature.

I think that the gulf islands attract artists, for whatever reason. Ucluelet is certainly the kind of town that would be in a good position to show some of these talents off. A beautifully set up shop. It packs a tonne of items without feeling too cluttery. The staff member was so nice to talk to and had time (January visit) to point out of few items of interest knowing I was just browsing, even though I said I was just browsing (not looking to buy anything). I'm happy a lot of retail shops are moving towards a less pushy/sales pitch style, but at times you can feel ignored too. This was the perfect balance.

Great gallery, great service. I visited this gallery during a recent trip. They had a great selection of art for reasonable prices. After I went home I couldn't stop thinking about one of the paintings so I called to buy it and have it shipped to me. The staff was very helpful. They shipped the painting the next day and it arrived quickly even with an international ship. They had packaged it very well so it arrived in perfect condition.

We just dropped in for some window shopping and to pick up some gift items and souvenirs to take back home, but the paintings and art work were so good that we simply could not tear our eyes away from them. Most of the paintings and carvings were done by local artisans and the First Nation craftsmen. But being from overseas the paintings and sculptures were too big for us to take in an airplane. We settled for the smaller stuff like key-chains, bookmarks and trinkets.

Park
Nature & Parks
Kennedy Lake Provincial Park offers a picturesque setting for outdoor activities such as swimming, kayaking and windsurfing. The park also boasts picnic areas with beautiful scenery. Access to the beach can be tricky due to rocky terrain but the beach itself is stunning with shallow waters perfect for families. Visitors can enjoy warm water and search for sand dollars in this peaceful location that is not crowded.
We went to the boat launch area of the park for a rest stop, the day was sunny and the lake and surrounding landscape looked picturesque and scenic. The tiny beach and picnic areas were very clean I think it would make a great spot for having a small picnic.

This was like a little piece of heaven on earth! What a beautiful spot and so quiet that I got to sit and enjoy myself for quite a while with not another person around-so peaceful and tranquil. Love!

Amazing peaceful place. There's not much crowd. Warm water.

A good lake close to the beaches. The clouds coming from the Pacific Ocean normally don’t get there and it’s sunnier and warmer than the beaches. The water is up to waist height for about 100 meters from the shore then it starts to get deeper, making it very safe for kids. The water is super clear and you can see the bottom even in deeper parts of the lake.

Good place to stop along Highway 4 for a picnic and swim in the lake
