Top 20 things to do and attractions in Fountain Hills

Apparently "botanical garden" is just a fancy way of saying that a piece of nature has been set aside for conservation with nice placards placed to describe the various plants that grow in the area, as well as to describe historical and other points of interest. Not that there's anything wrong with that! There is a nice trail system that allows you to walk through the area at your leisure and learn a bunch of stuff if you are so inclined. There is also a sensor at the entrance that counts how many people are visiting - it is clearly labelled that this is NOT a camera, as apparently some people are concerned. It is important to see how much interest places like this generate to justify whatever decisions need to be made.

It's small, in a 6-acre crevice between two neighborhoods. There are cacti that were attacked by pack rats. One cactus had a red hue on its spines and very wavy pattern I've not seen before. The garden is just over 1/2 mile round-trip, easy on the downslope and uphill. Do wear a good pair of closed toe shoes, it's a rocky path, and rattlesnakes have been reported in the area. There are only 4 parking spots, and this is free entry. Please, be responsible, don't eat here on the trail, but if necessary, take any of your trash out with you. It's easy walking for kids 5+, moderately difficult for those under that age.

Worth the trip. Really small parking lot, 5 spaces, not sure if you are allowed to park on the side of the road. Education signs on the plant life and history, nice. Benches for a rest. You are really close to people’s homes. Saw lizards, rabbits and birds. You need good shoes or hiking boots, lots of loose rocks.

It's a lovely little area with easy trail for children to enjoy. Great place to spend an hour with the kids or have a nice walk.

The other reviews are quite accurate. It undulate up down and around and feels like a bigger area that it actually is. Walked it after a night of rain - GORGEOUS. The water from the bottom of the old stone dam comes through pipe and runs along the rocks at the bottom of the canyon like a little creek bed. The signage about the plants is really great, not only naming the plant, but explaining a bit about their history & usage by the local natives. Other signs give education about geology on the trail. Yes, it's therefore a botanical garden, with maintained trails that meander in loops and give a great little snapshot of our beautiful Sonoran Desert. No, it's NOT an exercise trail unless you're really not normally an exerciser... Watch your footing, it's not merely a "path," it's a trail, albeit an easy one.

Not really a "botanical garden", but rather a neighborhood nature trail with placards placed at naturally occurring plants. Not a bad place to visit if you're already in the area, but not worth a 40-minute drive, in my opinion. Especially in the winter time. But at least it's free.

Don't get me wrong, the museum exhibits themselves are nice, and it's great that they have a working relationship with the local Yavapai community, but they really need to change their approach to how they operate. After viewing the introductory video, which again was not bad, I was not really able to enjoy the exhibits because there was a man talking to us the entire time, not even giving us a moment to actually look at anything without hearing his voice in the background. I'm not sure how anyone is supposed to learn anything here if we have to be forced to listen to a guy who really loves the sound of his own voice just talk incessantly instead of seeing the exhibits we came to see. There are reasons why other museums offer tours to people who want them; the rest of us prefer to go through the museum at our own pace and not be forced to listen to a lecture, and the fact that I didn't really have a say in that was absolutely absurd, because it ruined the experience for me and made driving all the way out there feel like a waste of time. If I wasn't using a Culture Pass from the library, which waived admission, it would have been a waste of a whole lot more.

Unfortunately, the museum was closed while I was in the area so I did not get to see the inside. However, it was the outside that drew me in the 1st place. The sculptures placed all around the grounds outside are amazing and worth a visit all by themselves. There's also a small community garden. It's free to walk around and check everything out. Plan to spend at least an hour, especially if you like to read about the artists.

This museum is way better than what I expected! Coming in, it looked small, but there as a lot to see; spent a little over an hour here.. The docent was kind to give a tour. We started with some exhibits on the outside, and then there's a 7 minute movie. From there, we winded our way through the different exhibits that represent the "river of time" and how Fountain Hills/ Arizona came to be what it is now. The exhibits were well placed and aesthetically pleasing. I enjoyed how they were interactive as well.

The Docent was very knowledgeable and affable. Learned a lot about the area and history. The museum is located in a community center with great sculpture art. The little gift shop had local jewelry at a third of jewelry shops. My wife who makes her own jewelry found a necklace she loved.

Call ahead we drove over 1 hour to find out that they were not open on Wednesday at 2pm Called today, Thursday, and they will be closing early Not going to make the drive again today

Really nice, very clean paved walking path around the lake. It is a reclaimed water lake so a little smelly at times. There is a really cool splash pad. A very nice playground. A musical instrument play area. Multiple covered areas to sit at. Such a nice little community surrounding it. Multiple bathrooms and drinking fountains. Parking was pretty easy.

Absolutely beautiful! The fountain is breathtaking to watch, especially when it shoots high into the sky — it’s the perfect centerpiece of the town. The park itself is very clean, peaceful, and well-maintained, with plenty of walking paths, green spaces, and spots to relax by the lake. It’s a great place for families, couples, or even just to enjoy some quiet time outdoors. Whether you come for a picnic, a walk, or just to see the fountain, it never disappoints. Very nice and peaceful park with a nice walking trail and a Frisbee golf course. It's a well maintained park with nice bathrooms and plenty of benches. Come right before the top of an hour and watch the magnificent fountain for 15 minutes. I've visited twice now and I enjoy this park.

I was heading out of town but wanted to see th famous fountain. Found out it only goes off every hour on the hour for 15 mins. When I drove up it had already been going off for 8 mins. It is beautiful. Neat to see. They cut it off and water comes cascading down. I found that they normally only run 2 pumps so it shoots up about 300'. Only on special occasions do they use 3 pumps to get it 500 or so feet. Which I'm sure would be awesome. If you are in the area check it out. Parking was easy off a side street. Looked like the surrounding grounds were home to disk golf. And FYI the grass was sopping wet in certain areas so be mindful of that when waking to the waters edge.

The park was super relaxing and peaceful. It had a wide variety of birds, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I especially loved watching the Red-winged Blackbirds and the vibrant red patches on their wings. The park was clean, and thanks to the fountain, there was a refreshing breeze that felt amazing—especially in the Arizona heat.

Beautiful and excellently maintained park and lake and mile plus trail around it. Although I live 20 minutes away, I'll drive there often for a walk with wife and dog. People (and dogs) are always friendly and courteous. Get there on the hour in the evening so you can watch the fountain for 15 minutes.

Visited Fountain Hills, Arizona around noon in early October. The weather was pleasant, and the place was calm and scenic. Plenty of open spaces and activities for kids — a great spot for a relaxing family outing.

I had a great time watching “The Wizard Of Oz” The venue had the perfect atmosphere for the evening!! Snacks and juices for all the guests that lasted throughout the entirety of the show. The actors in the show were amazing!! I really enjoyed my time!!

The seats are old and small if you have bigger hips, but they aren't too uncomfortable to distract from the shows. And the plays are delightful. This is one of my favorite places to go to catch a show!

What a wonderful experience at the theater tonight for their presentation of the Lion King! My kids thoroughly enjoyed the amazing acting and singing put on by the cast. My 6 year old even was applauding and sat through the whole performance. If you haven't had the chance to attend and support local theater; I highly suggest that you do.

What a fantastic little 100 or so seat venue. They sold a few snacks and drinks and had two sets of restrooms. Definitely recommend.

There is so much talent at Fountain Hills Theater. The staff is amazing and the performances are incredible. If you are looking for an intimate stage setting and talented performers this is the place for you. We have our daughter in acting camps in the youth division and Ms. Paige is phenomenal. She is kind, thoughtful, and skilled and producing budding new actors. I love that she keeps the class sizes small for maximum one on one instruction. Way to go Fountain Hills Theater.

All from-scratch food. Friendly, clean, locals vibe. We make sure to come here every time we’re in town. Also, great place to watch sports. Highly recommended.

Tried this place this past Saturday evening. This restaurant was great. The hostess was so welcoming right away. It was little busy but our server was amazing I think her name was either Barbara or Deborah. I cant remember i feel awful because she was a great server the whole time we were there. The food was amazing, great portions, and little pricy for some but honestly it was worth it. We sat in the room to the right of bar. The detail of decorations from the roof to the floor was very cowboy/western and very nice. Lots of tv's which was great because It might be a short wait to get food but well worth it. Also there was a guy playing his guitar and singing near the front door had a great voice and sang alot of good songs. I highly recommend this restaurant everything we tried and what our server suggested was delicious. I Would definitely come back.

Great western vibe, good food and fun atmosphere! Stopped at Saddle Bronc Grill and loved the place it’s got that true cowboy saloon feel with rustic décor, old rodeo posters and clever Wild West details everywhere (even the restroom door handles are revolvers. I had the grilled salmon with broccoli and slaw perfectly cooked, clean, and flavorful. Paired it with a cold beer and it hit the spot after a long day. The staff was friendly, the music fit the vibe, and the overall atmosphere was just fun and relaxing. A great spot if you’re in Fountain Hills and want good food, local flavor, and a real Arizona experience.

Great first experience! The wings were really good and had their Sunday special which is a French Dip. It was really good and inspired with their mashed potatoes. Kara was so friendly and provided great service during our experience. Thanks for a great experience and I’m glad that we tried this place! Highly recommend!

The food is excellent. I regularly get the broasted chicken, all dark meat, with a side of broccoli that is to die for. The staff is par excellence, and just so I go there often. Try it you'll like it!

Service relatively quick and waitress was really friendly. Great atmosphere, lots of western related pics, old rifles and pistols on the walls. Only thing my chili was not very hot (temperature), and one sent his chili burger back to warm it up.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal! The nachos, baby back ribs, and roasted chicken were all delicious. The homemade blue cheese and ranch dressing were also exceptional. Our server, Angela, was fantastic. She was knowledgeable about the menu and attentive to our needs.

We ordered for delivery. It came to us as scheduled. It was our first time ordering. I had spaghetti with meat sauce. I loved it! My husband had the wedge salad with the garlic bread. He ate the whole thing.

I am so happy I found this place. Definitely a must try place in fountain hills for those who are coming out of state or even from the city. I got the seafood risotto and my bf got the chicken parmigiana. Both were delicious but I will have to say the seafood risotto was amazing. They weren’t stingy with the seafood and the taste was spot on.

I hope we had just a bad night and this isn’t the new normal. My wife and I usually love to get the lasagna here and it has always been fantastic. This time it was waaay off. It was drenched in super oily sauce, the meat was clumpy (it’s usually very fine), it was covered in a layer of melted cheese and was just too much. It honestly was just…ok. But seemed like the kind of lasagna you would get frozen from the store. The staff were nice, the restaurant itself seemed the same. But the food was just kinda…off Definitely would not return if this is just how they are now. But hoping it will be 5 stars next time we give it a try again.

Absolutely wonderful service and great food. I have food intolence to onions, garlic, and mushrooms. They were able to customize a shrimp Alfredo dish that was amazing. It was a perfect lunch drinking wine.

Could've been a 5, but our food order was all wrong. We sat on the patio, and it was 80° out, but the manager didn't know how to turn off the heaters, which made it miserable. This is all due to poor management.+

My wife and I have been here a couple of times the food was delicious as always but the service this time was not up to par. We had to keep reminding the waitress to bring us oil & balsamic vinigar for our bread, parmasean for our food and they were completely out of gnocchi & ravioli which were 2 of the dishes we wanted to try. When we wanted to get the check it took her litterally 20 min from the time I asked till when she brought it. This service problem was most likely caused by poor resource management, they did not plan for such a busy weekend and did not have enough food or staff on hand. However thereis no excuse when you are 1 of only 2 restaurants overlooking the fountain hills lake & fountain and it's a beautiful 74° outside w/o a cloud in the ski you know people come from all over to relax at the lake. FYI Google isn't just for mapping it also can show you the weather 10 days to 1 Mo. out for planning so this does not happen. Poor planning by the management Since this is the 1st time this has happened there of course my wife and I will go back but we just hope this does not happen again.

A local favorite. I’m a big fan of the coconut rum truffle and the lemon tarts. A great stop for gifts, holidays, or just to satisfy your sweet tooth.

The staff are really friendly and clearly enjoy what they do- it’s contagious. I had the chocolate bourbon pecan pie which was very good. The owner brought out a couple of brownie bite samples at no charge which was very kind (and they tasted amazing). We were passing through town for lunch and to look at the fountain- I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Ordered a chocolate mouse cake for a combination Easter/anniversary get together. Staff was friendly and accommodating and, most importantly, the cake was fabulous. No confusing this with a mass produced cake in terms of flavor or appearance. A very special treat. Plus we were able to purchase a most excellent gelato cone when we stopped by to pick it up.

**Back to this amazing shop for our favorite Lemon Tart and another box of chocolates, a dark chocolate macaroon, mousse cake and peanut butter chocolate bar. What can I say.. we're addicted! Drove out to Fountain Hills to try the handmade chocolates and they did not disappoint. Excellent quality, fabulous flavors, decadent treats! We ate several before taking the picture and each one has been amazing. We also grabbed one of the lemon tarts and it was phenomenal. The tart shell was light, flaky and melts in your mouth. The lemon was smooth with a beautiful tart flavor. A must have treat we will definitely go back for along with the luscious chocolates. Worth the drive :)

Received these as a Valentines gift and they were AMAZING! They practically melt in your mouth. There’s a great variety of flavors including a lot of boozy flavors. They were so good that I had to stop in to grab a box for a friends birthday ❤️ Did I mention the ice cream and cake/pie options?!?!

I've stopped by when guests visit so Chocofin was on my mind when I needed to order a cake for a special occasion. The cake was delicious and the people were so helpful when placing the order and when picking up.

Love their chocolates! However, staff was rude. Went in to purchase chocolates for Valentine’s Day. Originally stated that I wanted a box of 24. So chose the chocolates. Got to check out and noticed the heart box. So I asked about it and she stated that I had chosen the 24 box. I told her they should place the heart boxes above the counter so people would have that option. She stated that she had just gotten into work. So I chose the heart box which was 28. She placed the chocolates in the box. Then I requested a receipt. She printed it out but made a notation for no tip. Maybe some customer service sensitivity training might be in order.

This collective artist gallery is absolutely incredible! From the gorgeous oil paintings right when you walk in, to the hand crafted beaded jewelry... They have it all. If your looking for a unique gift or something to decorate you home, I highly recommend checking out this gallery.

This small gallery has some very talented artists. I take all of my out of town guests there. Also, I can't even count the number of pieces of art that I have purchased. I really love this place.

WOW. Incredibly awful course, can’t tell the difference between fairways and roughs, they have 10 foot greens in which the ball bounces when you putt and they’re all VERY inconsistent and quite literally impossible to putt on. Half of the grass is dead and there’s much more problems. If you’re thinking of going here you’d be much better off flushing 60$ down the toilet so you just waste money instead of time too. I couldn’t be less picky when it comes to golf courses but I am SHOCKED that this place is in business. Could not have been a worse course all together even if they tried.

Challenging layout with great views. Tons of changes in elevation. Comparative to other courses in the area, Desert Canyon seems to stay in better shape throughout the year. Only criticism would be that the GPS mapping on the carts can be frustrating. It’s a must-play and a great value.

I absolutely love this golf course. The staff here is incredible and the layout is unforgettable. Don't hit driver on No. 1. Some amazing views and the back 9 has some tough holes. Not the longest layout in Fountain Hills, but a course that I would love to play over and over again. Good stuff here at Desert Canyon. FORE!

Beautiful setting. Good food and an incredible view of the city. Their fish fry on Friday nights is the best I've ever had. Good wait staff and friendly. It's been remodeled and it's really a very nice place. The patio is awesome!!❤️❤️

I was shocked how nice this course was. Condition was perfect. Made a last minute tee time for 2:36 and 18 holes later it was 4:40. That’s probably not the normal pace but I loved it and the course layout.

Been going here for years. Such a beautiful peaceful park. I loved it when i was a kid, and now my kids love this park. Lots of memories and great times. Good park for all ages

Six pickleball courts, half reserved fir league, the other half open. Corn hole and ping ping, bring your own bags and paddles (under cover so. An play in sun). Walking path and new, clean bathrooms, big baseball diamond.

Wind Cave trail is a pretty interesting hike. Only about 3 miles round trip, its a very rocky terrain. Bring decent footwear, and a couple bottles of water. Easily done in 3 hours or less.

Great place for kids baseball tournament. Fountain Hills is a wonderful town a little pricey but very nice.

Lots of activities are in this park with playgrounds for the kiddos, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, baseball fields, and more.

Golden Eagle Park is a nice park near where I live. We have come here a lot. They have bathrooms and a concession stand. Tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball fields, and a football field (for the high school only). They recently had heavy rain and had to remodel the fields. Now there is better irrigation and it doesn't flood as bad when it rains. They also banned dogs being in the ball fields since some of the dog owners weren't picking up their dog's poo. Very pretty trees when the flowers are in bloom. There is a walking trail that starts here and loops around the town.

Love to go there and watch my grand son play flag football!!

If you live in or around Fountain Hills this is a must visit on Wednesdays. Many great food vendors but be sure to check out Desirable Deserts for the best bakery anywhere.

My first time to Fountain Hills and I am so glad on went on a Wednesday to take in the Farmer’s Market. So many vendors and food trucks. I was worried about parking but Fountain Hills has ample parking. It was worth the drive from Gilbert.

Best farmers market in Arizona!

As housing development expands in Fountain Hills, new hiking opportunities are emerging in previously untouched canyons. This particular area is stunning, especially the Ridgeline Trail, one of the easier and more popular routes. The view from the top is breathtaking. There are plenty of well-marked trails to explore, all with clear signage. The landscape is filled with majestic saguaros and vibrant desert flora. Parking is free and generally available throughout the day.

Very well kept Trailhead. Clean bathrooms and filtered water station. Nice parking lot. Very doable hike and well maintained. Highly recommend a sunrise hike!

The Prominade trail is a little steep at first, but quickly levels off and has incredible views. The trail is an old road, about 10 feet wide, which continues for about a mile. Red Mountain, Weavers Needle, Four Peaks and the fountain are all visible most of the way. Other moderate to difficult trails branch off, some lead into the Scottsdale Sonoran Preserve, while others lead into the McDowell County Park. A mega-loop is possible, crossing over Bell Pass and returning over Sunrise Peak.

We love to hike here in the evenings for stargazing. The canyon provides a barrier from city lights which enhances the experience. The restrooms are always clean and maintained. Along the trails there are benches always positioned in the right spot for a break with a view. This is one of my favorite casual relaxing trails in the valley.

Great parking lot with bathroom and water fountain. Parking can be crowded depending on the time of year and or time of day. Quite a few different trail options from out-and-backs to big loops.

Awesome park with great facilities and trails. $7 for a day pass to get in. I did see a few rattlesnakes so watch out for those! Saw lots of walkers, runners, and bikers on the trails.

This is a hidden gem for those who want to feel seclusion but still close enough to civilization. McDowell Mountain Regional Park offers beautiful views from just about every site. The sites are spacious and there’s plenty of room between your neighbors. The restrooms and showers are clean and well maintained. It’s definitely off the beaten path but well worth the visit.

Our favorite mountain bike trails! Especially on cloudy/rainy/ muddy days!

The Two Crazy Vegans have stayed at the EJ Rowland Campground here so many times we have stats on campspots. There is trails galore and the bathrooms are always clean. Views can be breathtaking and its close to us so we come when we can.

The Campground was very clean. Everyone who worked at the party were nice. The sites are level and the views are beautiful. The trails are fun for hiking and biking.

Nice park with plenty of trails to explore and some campgrounds and picnic areas. If you have a state park ticket you can get in for free.

Love this spot! Very quiet and peaceful. Showers were hot and clean. Sunset views with low light pollution to the South.

Great Services, Friendly, Informative and Professional

Grandkids love coming here. Lots of open space. Pro tip: Park on north side of the bridge and walk over to the ball field and age appropriate, shaded playgrounds. More walking and running = tired 2 year old and 4 year old. Plenty of clean restrooms on both sides of the bridge. Great water filters for refills! Some shady picnic areas. Please, dogs must be on leash, under your control.

Such a fun playground for climbing and swinging! Plus the double zip line was great!

The new updates are fantastic, particularly the new shade covering on the playground equipment. It is a game-changer during the summer. Great family park!

Nice neighborhood park with lot's of activities. Well maintained, courts for various sports, picnic tables, etc. Restrooms and dog friendly.

We take our kids to Four Peaks Parks for a walk, or plying there inthe playground and it also has basketball courts, tennis courts, pickelle ball court and also two different playground one with the ziplines for little kids. Huge ball fields by the baseball court makes this great park fun place for running with kids or play fetch with my little puppy

Four Peaks Park is a well thought out area to meet the needs of young and old. From the multi-age playgrounds, zip line, tennis, basketball, and pickle ball courts as well as soccer and ball fields there is something for everyone! A walking path as well as ramada for a picnic provides the perfect spot to enjoy your day!

What a nice 5 out 5 star park! There is plenty of parking lot- one is by the soccer field and the other is closer to the playground. The one by the soccer field has restrooms and water fountains; just note- restrooms are currently being fixed but you can walk about 4 minutes to the port-a-potty by the tennis court. The park has various ramadas throughout. From the soccer field parking lot, you can either turn left and walk on the sidewalk loop around the soccer field or you can continue straight across a pretty arched bridge. As you cross the bridge, you first pass by an open baseball field area that is very well maintained and clean. Then, in front of that is the playground which is just a bundle of fun with ziplines, a mini Ninja Warrior course and more! From there you have the tennis court area. Around you you are surround by peace and nature, and the in the horizons you can see the beautiful mountains.

Great paved pump track here. Skate park is really nice as well. A bit of a drive from Cave Creek, but worth it to practice some MTB skills. Got here early and owned the place. Mid week for the win. Glad this community supports kids and adults getting outside. Nice dog park here as well, very busy during my morning ride.

Soccer is at these fields every year we always enjoy this time of year!

This is a very nice open park. Great for soccer. It has a skate park, dog park and playground. The bathrooms are very well maintained. There is plenty of parking. Very nice view of the mountains.

Nice park with a well maintained playground, bathrooms, dog park, and skate park. Nice large open field for football or soccer. Parking is available on multiple sides of the park which is convenient.

3.5 acre off leash park, best in the Phoenix area. The pups and I look forward to our daily visit.

There are quite a few of us who love the park and do our best to make sure it is the cleanest and friendliest park around

Be careful. I herd a little old lady made tea out of the sprinkler water and got sick. But she's ok now.
