Architectural Buildings
The Triumphal Arch, an iconic landmark in Chisinau, stands proudly at 13 meters tall and was constructed in 1840 to honor the Russian Empire's triumph over the Ottoman Empire during the Russo-Turkish War. This stunning white stone structure is not only a significant historical monument but also a popular photo spot for visitors exploring the city.
Great place to see. Built in 1840, this 13-meter white stone arch with a clock commemorates the Russo-Turkish War.
Monika K — Google review
Understated but classy arch with a nice clock near the Cathedral and a pretty park. Worth a visit but not a special trip to see it. Combine with the foreamentioned places and check out the railway carriages on the other side of the boulevard to learn about the departed peoples, a very sad story in itself.
Phil M — Google review
The Triumphal Arch in Chișinău is a cool landmark right in the city center. It’s got a classic look and stands out with its white stone and the clock on top. Nice spot to snap a few photos, and it’s close to other sights too. Worth a quick stop if you’re exploring the area.
Devrim B — Google review
It is the most visited place in the Chişinău, located in the center of the city. In every season you will see around different decorations related to holy and traditional holidays, markets, exhibitions and concerts sometimes. There is a pretty park around and many pigeons next to cathedral. The Arch is not as big as you expect to be like in the big cities, I consider very important to mention 😺
Natalia P — Google review
One of the most beautiful and valuable monuments in Chisinau. Best place to take photos and content!
Ivan M — Google review
A great monument and one you can easily get up close to and admire in all its detail. There isn’t any signage to explain the history, which is a shame, but there’s plenty of other sights nearby to make it worth wandering to. They attempt to light it nicely in the evenings but in an understated way which goes well with the rest of the city. It’s one of the key landmarks and a must see for anyone’s first visit to the city or wanting good photo opportunities.

National museum
The National History Museum of Moldova, located in the historical center of Chisinau, is a must-see attraction with over 165,000 items showcasing the country's rich heritage. Despite the need for renovations, the museum offers intriguing exhibits that provide insight into Moldova's history from ancient times to modern-day. Visitors can explore diverse exhibitions covering various periods such as the Middle Ages, World War II, and the Soviet era.
One of the best museums I've seen. Really engulfing, with many beautiful objects and great narrative about Moldova's history. I recommend visiting it to everyone.
Igor R — Google review
I did not like the museum. Maybe it is just a preference for what to see, but it was kinda not interesting, too soviet/communism related. The building is big, and halls too, but all feels rather empty. Art museum is much better
Filip N — Google review
Well laid out museum in a beautiful building. Very spacious going though the Moldovan history. Sometimes it lacks information but inspires you to use Google. We spent 1h15. The price for an adult is 50 MLD and 20 for students. There are lockers and toilets.
CJ — Google review
The Museum accommodated is very beautiful building. There isn't any person speaks English so I don't know but the administration should to improve the service. I came across groups of students from the city, apparently instead of a history lesson the children were taken to the history museum. It was very noisy, especially from those students who were bored. Another thing that struck me was that the 7th century is almost not discussed. Thy focus over to refuting Russian propaganda. Otherwise, if it is quiet, the place is worth it and it is quite cheap - only €2.5. I definitely recommend the place because many people didn't know that Moldova was separated from Romania. Many people don't know that Moldova was a principality and is not Russia.
Asen K — Google review
A good collection of exhibits about the history of Moldova. Educational. You can buy souvenirs at the cash desk. I recommend visiting.

Museum which summarizes history of Moldova. Comfortable space and interesting exhibitions.
Timothy C — Google review
Beautiful building that has been carefully restored, ans which in itself is worth visiting. Lots of artefacts and exhibitions about Moldovan history, though a little more English texts would have been nice.
Lars B — Google review
Excellent museum. Unique and varied attractions e.g. the rooms themselves are beautiful and worth the price of admission. There’s even an old fashioned diorama room that includes thunder and lighting — so cool! We visited many museums during our 3 week trip to 6 countries and this was my favorite. The staff were very helpful in pointing the optimal route through the museum. The exhibits are extremely well done and it helped us that much of the info was presented in English e.g. helpful explanations were available on take away sheets in each room that you can grab and read as you walk the room. The well presented collection of artifacts including ancient items was amazing in quality and quantity. Stunning stuff. Everyone involved should be so proud of this museum. Don’t miss the fun “wheat blowing in the wind” art as you walk one of the rooms, kids might love that (yes, me too). Don’t be put off if some of the hosts or cashier seem solemn initially, they are all real nice and maybe leery of approaching non-native speakers. Do see the well guarded treasures in the basement which could be overlooked as could the exhibit on darker times in Moldova. Easy to get here once in Chisinau and great value. Highly recommended!

The National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History is a well-known museum in Chisinau that showcases various exhibits on Moldovan culture, natural history, animals, old books and decorations. The museum has over 15 halls with an impressive collection on display. While there is no ethnographic project available on the premises, the museum boasts great architecture and a lovely garden.
Nice museum, is way bigger than it seems. There are many additional rooms underground. On many things you can find an englisch translation, we paid 25 lei per person if I remember correctly (students)
Zitronenbaum — Google review
No English, no narrative to what is presented, no clear ordering to rooms or exhibited items. 5000 year old fertility icons shown next to 400 year old coins, for some reason. I get it, it is an old museum (135 years old!), but it could and should be updated to modern standards. Certainly an e-guide would be helpful, and also offering better opportunities for photos (less glare-y glass!). The dinosaur/prehistoric animals sections are the best, and in general lots of cool things to see. It is still worth a visit for sure.
Alon D — Google review
It is an interesting museum, but Art one is my favorite. However, this one has some very interesting rooms and exhibits. The women working there were nice. Cheap postcards - package of 32 for 1€ or smrh.
Filip N — Google review
Very interesting place to visit with kids or as a couple. Adult ticket costs 10 lei, student ticket is 2 lei while the ticket for taking pictures is 15 lei. The museum is huge. I’ve never imagined that it’s so big, but it is. The animals are beautifully created and look incredibly real. The museum is big with lots of rooms depicting various historical eras and periods. It’s definitely worth visiting.

More beautiful pieces of Moldova botanical and animals. Also, there is an AMAZING old carcass of the elephant’s ancestor 🤩
Walid — Google review
Very interesting museum. Enjoyed it a lot. If you are in Chisinau, it is definitely worth a visit. It's a shame that their aren't signs in English. My girlfriend had to translate a lot. So if you have a Moldovan of your own, definitely ask them to come with. They might also be able to add interesting stories.
Roel W — Google review
Total disappointment .This museum was my favourite place to visit many years ago in the times of Soviet Union. Now after years of reconstruction the exposition is much poorer. On the ground floor there are some petrified remains of ancient animals, mollusks, stones. A lot of objects are not even from this area(Uzbekistan ,Crimea, Tajikistan) and half of them are replicas. On the first floor there are some exhibits of flora and fauna, national costume, etc. I was expecting to see exhibits about winemaking, different grape varieties, etc. Nothing of the kind.(And this is just one example).
Oleg O — Google review
A small but beautiful museum. I especially recommend you to see if you are interested with weird animals. We were one adult and one student and we payed about 15 lei. Employees are nice and kind. I personally really liked the filled animals and the 3D Moldova map. I really wonder that what is the meaning of the skull and bones under the crosses?

Built in 1836, it was the headquarters of the Moldovan Orthodox Church, but was bombed and badly damaged during the World War II. It was rebuilt in 1997 and restored in neo-classical style in Chisinau. The interior is decorated with beautiful frescoes.

Beautiful Cathedral in the centre of Chisinau. Like most Cathedrals/Monasteries, it can be let down by tourists who gormlessly wander in, chattering, take a photo, then leave. It would be nice if there was a quiet area for visitors to pray/reflect in silence.

Park
Valea Morilor Park is a serene and leafy park located in Chisinau, Moldova. It was established in the 1950s as a Soviet-style Central Park of Culture and Rest, featuring a manmade lake that offers an artificial beach for swimming. The park is popular among locals and tourists for its tranquil atmosphere, walking paths, theater, playground, and small amusement park.
Just beautiful. As a tourist I really enjoyed my visits to this park. It has a very social but warm feel to it and it’s an ideal place to walk around, run around (as I did), or just sit and enjoy the calmness of the place. It seems to be a favourite amongst the locals, and rightfully so. The park is very well preserved and is clean. There are coffee shops along the way and places where one can buy food too. It’s a bit of a walk from the main area of Chişinău, but the efficiency and reliability of the public transport in the city makes it worth while for a visit.
Louis — Google review
A peaceful green space in the heart of Chisinau, perfect for a leisurely walk or quiet reflection. Locals come here with their families, kids, and even fishing poles — adding to the relaxed, lived-in vibe. The lake is the centerpiece, with tree-lined paths circling it and plenty of benches to take it all in. The cascading staircase leading down to the lake adds a touch of drama and charm. Not overly touristy — just an authentic slice of local life in motion.
Sa S — Google review
Amazing place to visit, A quiet, green park by the lake, with walking paths, a theater, a playground and a small amusement park. Many tracks around, lovely views
Monika K — Google review
Valea Morilor is genuinely a fantastic park and a must-visit when in Chișinău. It’s so expansive and well-maintained that you could easily spend the entire day here exploring. The park's centerpiece is the large lake, surrounded by excellent, clean paths perfect for a long, peaceful walk, jogging, or cycling. The renovated Cascades Staircase is a stunning architectural feature and offers great views. It's a popular spot, but the sheer size ensures it never feels crowded. It offers a genuine, calm escape from urban noise. Overall: A beautiful green space, clean, and ideal for spending hours in nature. Highly recommended
Happy H — Google review

Chisinau Central Market, or Piata Centrala, is a vibrant hub nestled in the heart of Chisinau that offers an authentic taste of Moldovan culture. This historical market has been a staple since the early 20th century and features an extensive array of stalls brimming with fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, meats, and baked goods. As you wander through its bustling alleys, you'll discover local specialties like honey and dried fruits alongside imported tropical delights.

Housed in a beautiful 19th-century mansion, the museum boasts an impressive collection of Russian and European art, including paintings, sculptures, and decorative pieces. It also offers insights into the life and works of the famous poet through exhibits showcasing his books and lifestyle. House-Museum of Alexandr Pushkin (Romanian: Casa-muzeu „Aleksandr Pușkin”) is a museum and architectural monument in Moldova of national value. It is included in the Register of monuments of history and culture of the municipality of Chișinău. House-Museum The building is where the Russian poet Alexandr Pushkin lived for three months after arriving in the capital of tsarist Bessarabia on September 21, 1820. The house, which at the time belonged to the merchant Naumov, was granted museum status on 10 February 1948. In total, Pushkin spent three years (1820–23) on the territory of the governorate, having previously been exiled here by the tsarist administration.
Ana P — Google review
This visit offers a rare glimpse into how he — and others of that era — truly lived, from the intimate setting of the bedroom to a museum filled with authentic artifacts and traces of family genealogy. You’ll also discover some unexpected highlights, like the whimsical Baba Yaga house tucked away at the back of the garden. Whether or not you’re a museum enthusiast, this experience is perfect — compact, immersive, and surprisingly rich.
Michael L — Google review
I most definitely didn't get the helpful guides. The whole visit lasted a maximum of 15 minutes and that was because I was walking slowly. Not speaking either Russian or Romanian is a great impediment. I could have used translation software, but I couldn't be bothered. I saw nothing about Pushkin's works, which would have interested me. There were just a lot of pictures and some objects. I spent about 30 seconds in the house: the house had to be specially unlocked for me; the rooms were cordoned off and there was a slightly stern looking woman keeping watch over me and waiting for me to be finished. If you speak Romanian and or Russian, go. I was just too stupid to appreciate it, I guess.
Anthony S — Google review

The Alexandru Ciubotaru National Botanical Garden, located in Chisinau, Moldova, is a sprawling 76-hectare green space featuring around 10,000 plant species from across the globe. Visitors can explore themed sections such as the arboretum, fruit garden, rose garden, and Japanese garden. The garden also boasts an 8-shaped lake where visitors can enjoy picnics and fishing.
A beautiful springtime respite from the the urban clamor. It was nice to watch the Moldovian people enjoying themselves: individuals walking pensively, couples with some quiet alone time, parents interacting with their children in positive ways, and groups of young people hanging out in a wholesome environment. If you come here, don't neglect to read the history of the gardens near the entrance on the right-hand side of the path.

Lovely garden located to the south east of Chișinău, which can be reached with the trolleybus nr. 22 from the city centre. Nestled in the heart of Stefan cel Mare Central Park, the Stephen the Great Monument stands as a tribute to one of Romania's most revered historical figures, Stephen III of Moldavia. Erected in 1927, this striking bronze statue commemorates a medieval ruler who valiantly defended his territory against Ottoman forces during the 15th century.
The “Stephen the Great” monument is a symbol of the city and an integral part of its identity. This historical figure holds great importance for Chișinău. Countless meetings and romantic dates have likely taken place by this monument. It stands as the gateway to the park and a true emblem of the city.

Stefan III was the Grand Duke of Moldavia, a hero who fought against the Ottoman Empire and defended his country. He formed an alliance with Hunyadi János of Hungary and Vlad Zepesh, Prince of Dracula. The site of this statue of King Stefan III is Stefan Cserle Mare Park, which is a recreational area for local residents. # Chisinau # Chișinău # Moldova

Stephen The Third Of Moldavia (1457 to 1504 A.D) was the most famous King of his and my birth Country; but more importantly was one of the greatest defenders of Europe against Evil Barbaric Ottoman Turkish Islamic Invasions; may God rest his soul in Heaven in Jesus Christ’s Name- Amen!
Victor B — Google review
The monument of Stephen the Great is truly a sight to behold—grand and majestic, with intricate details that capture his legacy. However, during the night, the lack of proper lighting fails to do justice to its beauty and the soft intricacies of its craftsmanship. For such a significant figure in history, I would have expected a more fitting illumination. That’s why I must give this statue a solid 4/5.

Stephen the Great Central Park, also known as Pushkin Park or The Park of the Lovers, is a serene oasis in Chisinau, Moldova. Established in 1818 by the Russian Army Engineer Corps and later redesigned by architect Alexander Bernardazzi, this 17-acre park features landscaped gardens, monuments, and a large fountain. It is a popular meeting spot for couples and offers benches and shade to escape the summer heat.
The park is telling you the story.... Historic place, indeed and very popular too. Great spot for meeting and socialising with friends and family. Lovely atmosphere; welcoming bars and restaurants on your way, while walking along the alley surrounded by the memorial busts of the national heroes. Just have your cake and enjoy it. Beautiful park right in the centre of the city.

Eternity Memorial Complex is a significant and solemn site dedicated to soldiers who perished in World War II. The complex features a huge war memorial park with a massive monument and an eternal flame. Visitors can witness the changing of the guard ceremony, which is particularly moving during national holidays. Families often visit the park, enjoying its peaceful atmosphere and green spaces for children and dogs to play.
In contrast to the adjacent city cemetery, this place is a very open space, featuring mostly very large memorials. The main memorial is a group of stylised concrete rifles converging above the Eternal Flame. The plaza is flanked on one side by a group of imposing red bas reliefs. There are some stray dogs who live here, but they seem harmless.
Richard B — Google review
A striking and solemn tribute to Moldova’s fallen soldiers, especially those from World War II. We took a taxi from our hotel and asked the driver to wait, expecting a brief visit — but the monument draws you in. The central structure, shaped like a five-pointed star with an eternal flame, is surrounded by dramatic sculptural elements and commemorative walls that add context to the wartime sacrifices. While there were no ceremonial guards during our visit, the site is clean, quiet, and respectfully maintained. It’s more than a photo stop — it’s a place to pause, reflect, and absorb a somber part of the city’s history.
Sa S — Google review
A beautiful place built in the 20th century and it has a great history. If you want to understand the statues and symbols there, I think it is advisable to talk to a local guide from Chisinau in advance to help you understand the place and delve into its history.
Nizar — Google review
The Eternity Memorial Complex is seriously one of the most powerful places in Chișinău. It's huge, but the design is what gets you. The central monument—five massive, stylized rifles converging into a pyramid—is a chillingly awesome sight that represents the five tough years of World War II. It's hard not to stop and stare. Standing near the Eternal Flame, you can genuinely feel the weight of history and the huge sacrifices made here. The whole area is super well-maintained—it's quiet, respectful, and a great place for reflection. If you can catch the changing of the guard ceremony, definitely do it; it's genuinely moving. This isn't just a quick photo stop; it's a must-see for understanding the city's spirit. Go in, walk around, and take a moment. You won't forget it.

The National Museum of Fine Arts of Moldova, established in 1939, showcases a diverse collection of local and international paintings, sculptures, and other artworks. Originally founded as the first Picture Gallery of Chisinau by sculptor Alexandru Plamadeala, it has evolved into a significant cultural institution. Housed in a historic mid-19th century building designed by renowned architect Alexander Bernardazzi, the museum is not only known for its impressive art collection but also for its architectural significance.
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. I had a wonderful 4-hours here, taking pictures and wondering about without being followed. I am absolutely surprised how extensive and beautiful the collection is. Definitely a great first stop while visiting Chisinau!
Thomas T — Google review
This is a small but very cozy and easy to navigate museum. The collection is not big, but it is better this way because you can see the whole collection in less than two hours. There is a whole floor, dedicated to paint work by Moldavian and Romanian painters. There is also a lot of oil paint works produced by European painters. The funny thing is that majority of those paintings have no author. Here I’m talking about middle ages paintings. The selection of sculptures is extremely low. I get it that it’s a small country with low population, but this election is still too minimal and few.
Nurseit N — Google review
Museum with excellent interior design, quite nice works of art and great price. It’s easy to see all of the collection, however it was hard to navigate around the building to see everything in the proper order. Would also love to buy some souvenirs like fridge magnets, postcards, guides and other books but there is no shop in the museum unfortunately. I didn’t know that there would be an Ivan Ajvazovsky painting tho!

Very nice selection especially of sculptures, though limited info about the pieces and artists. Still highly recommended for a glimpse of local art and culture.

This is a true treasure, offering visitors a rich journey through the history of art, from ancient to modern times. With its impressive collection of both local and international masterpieces, the museum beautifully showcases Moldova's cultural heritage while offering a deep connection to European art traditions. The atmosphere is both calm and inspiring, allowing art lovers to immerse themselves in a world of creativity and history, leaving them with a renewed appreciation for the power of artistic expression.

Nice selection of artwork from 1800s all the way to the modern era (there was an exhibition of Moldovian artists from 2022) Entrance was 10 Lei, and about an hour is enough time to see the collection if you don't linger around each peace too long. Very beautiful architecture of the building itself!

Jomaa A — Google review
Deeply disappointing. Chisinau Zoo feels like a relic of a bygone era—a post-Soviet prison camp for animals, not a sanctuary. The cages are stark, the eyes behind the bars lifeless. The only creature that stirred a sense of joy was a free crow, splashing in a puddle before soaring into the sky, untethered. It was a quiet reminder: freedom cannot be traded for daily meals. No enclosure, however clean or well-fed, can replace the dignity of the wild.

The Cathedral of Divine Providence in Chisinau is a well-maintained Roman Catholic church that may be a bit tricky to locate, but the search is definitely worth it. The interior is bright and adorned with lovely paintings, making it a peaceful spot for visitors. It holds daily morning and evening masses, as well as multiple services on Sundays. Additionally, English mass takes place on Saturdays at 5pm.
This neoclassical church was built in 1836 by the architect Abram Melnikov with a grant from Nicholas I of Russia; with the establishment of the Soviet regime in 1944, all parish activities ceased and the church was closed in 1963, forcing the faithful to attend a small chapel in the cemetery. The building was returned to the diocese in 1989. The church has been the seat of the Apostolic See of Moldova since 1993 and of the newly established Bishopric of Chisinau since 2001. Restoration work began in the spring of 2002 and was completed in 2004.

The sculptor Iurie Canasin immortalized the memory of two renowned individuals. Together, they expressed notions of liberty and the Romanian language, singing songs that embodied national rebirth, attachment to one's homeland, and most importantly, exhibiting a sense of dignity and uprightness. These figures have come to symbolize Moldova's struggle for independence. This monument is highly recommended as it commemorates two influential artists who were born in Moldova during the post-soviet era.
The recollection of the two famous personalities was eternalized by the sculptor Iurie Canaşin. Together, they sang the freedom and the Romanian language, songs of our national renaissance, love of home and hearth, but above all, they have brought us the dignity and verticality. They are considered to be a symbol of the struggle for independence of Moldova.

The airport also features comfortable waiting areas with charging sockets available. Additionally, the Golden Jet Lounge provides a premium experience for eligible visitors.
Quite a small airport for an international airport with only 9 gates however there are about 20 flights a day running 24hrs 7 days a week. The airport is clean, tidy and easy to navigate. Staff are friendly, calm and professional. The airport does a calm feel about it and although small it does have a duty free shop and a restaurant upstairs with prices very good for an airport. Plenty of seating and charge points upstairs. Taxis to the centre in the early hours of the morning are approx 350 lei and during the day about 250 lei to the city centre
Andy B — Google review
The airport is modern with efficient service. Very clean. During the holiday season it gets quite busy, but I didn’t feel any discomfort because of it. What struck me as very unusual was the sight of numerous luxury Ukrainian cars in the parking lot, which is rather odd for a country at war.
Mike D — Google review
Very nice modern airport. Great "cafe" upstairs offering good quality food and drinks at reasonable prices. The duty free is rubbish, whilst a large range of alcohol, the prices are about 20 percent dearer than UK high street prices. Makes no sense to me. However apart from that the airport is definitely one of the better ones.

The airport must be expanded as sometimes there could be queues especially on a busy period of the year. Other than that the Airport is quite small but cute. Didn't have any major issues there.
Cristian G — Google review
What an unpleasant experience all around. For such a tiny airport, you’d think they have it together! They don’t. Because it’s “National Language Day” (a public holiday in Moldova apparently), the police have closed the entry road to the airport!!! So my driver (who’s unusually kind and sweet for the average Moldovan) regretfully dropped me off outside and I had to drag my suitcase up a broken, steep ramp and walk about 500 metres to the airport entrance. The staff at the airport everywhere are so unfriendly and grouchy. No matter what you ask them and how, they make you feel unwelcome. Even at the Duty Free where they need your business, they seem to feel tortured by it! Avoid this country unless you absolutely have to.
Moody ( — Google review
Very small airport , there is like 20 flights a day. The airport bus nr 30 takes you to town and is 6 lei. 2 times per hour. The taxfree and wine selection cannot be used if you have a transfer since they don’t have the agreement with sealed bags. There are two exchange places, some cafees with simple food.

The Chișinău State Circus, originally built in 1981 and restored in 2014, is a stunning example of social realist architecture. "The Chisinau Circus was built in 1981 by Ala Kirichenko and Simion Shoyhet. The Chisinau State Circus was officially opened in 1981 and was, at the time, a top circus entertainment venue with state-of-the-art equipment and spaces for rehearsals, animals, and veterinarians. It had a capacity of 1,900 seats and the ring was over 40 feet across, making it the largest auditorium in Moldova. The Organ Hall in Chisinau is a stunning concert venue housed in an elegant classical-style building dating back to the early 20th century. The interior is adorned with enchanting chandeliers, and its unique blue and creamy white color scheme adds to its charm. While some visitors find the seating arrangements slightly uncomfortable, the magnificent sound of the enormous organ makes it a worthwhile experience. Despite some comments about ventilation and temperature, it remains a wonderful place for concerts and small celebrations.
Certainly one of the most beautiful buildings in the capital. Built at the end of the 19th century in classical style with Romanesque elements. Until 1974 it housed the State Bank. The beautiful dome and the sculptural groups give it a monumental appearance. The splendid Organ Hall was created by skilled craftsmen from Russia, Ukraine and Bohemia (for the crystal chandeliers). The organ was built by the ancient Rieger-Kloss company from Krnov (Czech Republic)

The small but beautifully simple white and blue building is the Organ Hall. It regularly hosts concerts by national and international players, and the interior is particularly beautiful. Tickets for events at the Moldovan Theatre and Concert Hall can be booked on the website. # Chisinau # Chișinău # Moldova

I have seen a few performances in the past month, flute, violins and wind pipes and wow the artists were absolute top! The hall will probably need some repairs but overall it’s a pretty building and what maters most are the performers! The seats along the sides sometimes may have a blocked view due to the columns and don’t have backs on the chairs but overall you can enjoy the music well from all the angles of the room

Local history museum
The Chisinau City History Museum, located in a historic building, offers an insightful journey through the city's development from its inception to the present day. The museum features captivating collections showcasing various periods such as the Russian Empire occupation, the Great Unification of Romanians, and Soviet occupation. Visitors can also enjoy panoramic views of the city from the top floor viewing deck. The beautifully restored old water tower provides a unique setting for exploring local history and offers great vistas of the city.
Not your average museum, as it is located in what appears to be an old water tower. However, despite its small size and small rooms, I feel like it’s worth a visit while you’re in Chişinău. Almost all of the text was in Romanian, and of course some of the exhibits themselves were in Russian given their Soviet heritage. I spent around 30 minutes just looking at what was on display rather than reading everything and so if you want a quick stop, it is worth it for that alone. The staff are friendly, were welcoming, and despite the language barrier gave me directions on where to go first. There were lots of spiral stairs to climb, or a lift can be used as an alternative. Entry price was 30MDL (~ £1.28), and I paid with cash. Not sure if card is accepted but most places in Chişinău do accept card anyway. Oh, and there is a nice view at the top of the water tower overlooking parts of the city, as well as Valea Morilor Park.

Rather small compared to all other museums in Chișinău. + Has an observation deck + Located in a very interesting, historical building - The exhibits are not signed properly. No English translation. - You can hire a guide in advance for 50 lei, but it’s only available in Russian and Romanian. - The stairs are very steep. There’s a small elevator, but it doesn’t take you all the way to the deck

The building is an imposing sight from the outside with a grand boulevard in front of it.

The place isn’t really suitable for studying. The workers are speaking with each other or on the phone all the time in all halls. The place is cold in fall. Just a waste of huge building. The Ciuflea Monastery, constructed in 1858, is a stunning structure with a blue exterior and gold domes. This church and monastery is located at the city center and offers free entrance to visitors. The building houses the tombs of its founding brothers, surrounded by well-maintained gardens and benches along its entrance lane. Visitors are required to adhere to a dress code that includes covering knees, arms, and head for women.
Mănăstirea Ciuflea is a Moldovan Orthodox monastery with a history that dates back to the 19th century, when it was built by two brothers. The brothers are buried at the entrance to the church on the right. The church's beautiful blue colour with the golden top makes it a striking feature in the city of Chisinau. But not only that, the earnest prayers inside were more heartfelt than I have felt in a long time.

The Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior, located near the main square and Parliament Building, is a stunning architectural gem from the late 19th century. Originally part of a boys gymnasium, it was repurposed as a planetarium during the Soviet era due to its unique round shape. Since 1992, it has been restored to its original function as a church and is open to the public.
The golden top and roof are seemingly loud, which is supposed to represent one of the faith and conscience in Chisinau. It was built between 1898 and 1902, and the dome was once used as a planetarium during the Cold War when Gagarin successfully went into space. After several renovations, it is in its current form.

The full name of this cathedral is quite a mouthful, however, it seems apt having had the pleasure of visiting it. On a stunning day without a cloud in the sky the cathedral roof glinted spectacularly on our approach - it was a real eye-catcher but this was only the warm-up. Inside the Fresco's are absolutely stunning. The depictions are graphic, memorable and remarkable and worthy of praise. The young female staff speak fluent English, maybe they're university students on a work experience programme or something, but they didn't really understand the three minibus stations in Chisinau when I told them where I was going. For some reason, I couldn't shake the feeling of being an amateur... Sure enough, the bus stop for Orhei was not 'Gara de Nord', as I was told here, but 'Central Bus Station'. I guess they weren't in a position to know all the information, and I don't blame them for their lack of experience. If that was the case, I would have liked to have seen more experienced staff not hiding at the back of the room, but standing with them to assist. I would have liked to have had more accurate traffic information, as inaccurate traffic information can cause major accidents in the timetable. :(( On the other hand, she helped me find a hairdresser under certain conditions for my frivolous request and negotiated the price with me on the phone. Not just a church. It's better to put the fee at the entrance and stop doing other business to keep the historical value.

Beautiful, but not a museum, not many houses. The church is actively used.
Stefan C — Google review
This wooden church, dating back to 1642, is a real gem, being the oldest of its kind in the country and the sole preserver of medieval Moldovan architecture. After nearly a century of neglect, the church was carefully taken apart, restored, and transported beam by beam to Chisinau. Interestingly, 85% of the beams and 70% of the iconostasis are original. Nowadays, the church is bustling with activity, hosting baptisms and weddings. If you're lucky, you might witness one! There's also a small gift shop tucked away underneath. Just keep in mind, while it's a stunning church, it's not a museum or a village. You'll find a smaller church and a few other structures nearby, but unfortunately you won't be able to explore inside.

Authentic historical open air museum, reminds me of Pyrohove near Kyiv or Bunratti in Co. Limerick, Ireland. Yet, way smaller. One main church, plus a few more wooden buildings, also with some religious sense. I've spent quite nice time overall, mostly sitting on a swing bench and enjoying the last warm hours of the 2023 Fall.
Yuri D — Google review
While this is a beautiful church- it is NOT a museum! And it is NOT a village. The only place you can enter into is under the church where they have a gift shop and some orthodox icons and such. The church is run as business with back to back baptisms and weddings. There was no historical information or even a chance to see the inside of any of the buildings. There was another chapel behind the main one and a few other structures- but you could not go into any. Of course there is no entrance fee- because it is NOT A MUSEUM.

This place is a hidden gem from Chisinau. Better to visit when it’s a good weather. The near park is good for sunset shots and moon rise. This place have different name, some people call this place “Vosmiorka”. Near the lake there is church made from wood, one of the oldest in the town. This is also a good place for fishing
Ion M — Google review
The main attraction of the Village Museum is the 17th century wooden church that was moved here from village Hârjauca. On weekends the church has a tight schedule of weddings. Moldovans love to show off during weddings and at this time I saw a few ceremonies with pigeons and lengthy photo sessions. In the end one photographer had to cut the shooting session because the batteries of his cameras were exhausted.

The State University of Moldova, established in 1946, stands as a cornerstone of higher education and a remarkable historical landmark in the heart of the country. With its striking neoclassical architecture featuring grand domes and columns, it captivates all who visit. Initially welcoming just 320 students across five faculties—ranging from Physics to History—the university has grown significantly over the years.
This is the best university in Moldova. I completed my Bachelor's degree in Public Law and my Master's degree in International Law here. The professors have impressive academic credencials and extensive practical experience, all of them are practicing professionals — successful lawyers, judges, members of the Arbitration Chamber, and even judges from the European Court of Human Rights. This institution is the leading one in the field of law in Moldova. If you want to gain solid legal knowledge — this is the place for you

A most wonderful small synagogue, and not to be missed if you are Jewish and nearby. I just happened to be in the neighborhood on a Friday and saw some activity inside this small synagogue. After a few words with the Rabbi, who convinced me to return for a Shabbat dinner, I went home, changed and returned. It was probably the most unexpected highlight of a trip to Moldova. The congregation was from all over the world, very welcoming and there was a dinner shortly thereafter. To this day, I maintain contact with several of the people whom I had met there.

The Gates of Chișinău City is a striking collection of imposing buildings, including the Soviet-built parliament building shaped like an open book, the grand Presidential Palace, and the 18-storey Ministry of Agriculture. While some older structures have suffered from neglect and vandalism, the beautifully preserved City Hall stands out with its Italian Gothic architecture. The entrance to Chișinău presents an awe-inspiring sight, making visitors feel small in comparison to these massive edifices.

It’s an old Soviet apartment building - if you enjoy the architecture, sure! This is not some tourist spot, I went there to meet friends that live in the building and have dinner. Outside of building needs maintenance, just like all the old Soviet buildings, hallways and stairways/elevators in disrepair, yet the apartments can be quite modern and stylish, depending on the occupants. This ‘shopping mall****’ has already been mentioned by many people, so I wanted to go and see it. I love the funky sense of fun of the Moldovan company that invented the name and probably overcame a lot of opposition and actually got it built. The modern and upscale ambiance creates a shopper's paradise with its stunning architecture featuring large atriums that allow natural light to fill the space. Despite some feedback about high prices in certain stores and occasional encounters with less-than-friendly shop owners, Atrium provides a well-organized layout for easy navigation between fashion boutiques, electronics stores, and more.
Atrium in Chișinău – A Familiar Favorite As someone from Moldova, Atrium has been a go-to spot for me over the years. It is a simple yet charming shopping center that has just the right balance of everything you need — from men’s suits to women’s dresses, accessories, and casual essentials. There are also places to grab a bite, making it a nice stop not just for shopping but for meeting up with friends or having a quiet moment alone. It is not a massive mall, but it has always felt convenient and welcoming. If I am not mistaken, the top floors are used for office spaces now, but I remember back in the day there used to be parties or events held there, which added to its lively vibe. I am not sure if that still happens, but those memories add to its charm for me. Overall, Atrium continues to be one of those steady, reliable places in Chișinău that many locals, like myself, have come to appreciate.

Although there are lots of stores, including a minority with western countries' preferences of style, almost all of the stores in this mall closes at around 3:30pm to 4:00pm in the afternoon, even if the mall officially closes at 9pm. It's been like this for the past few months. Every time I visit this mall, 95% percent of the stores have already pulled down their metal curtains by half past three in the afternoon. They could have more customers and more potential in success if they open during the hours when people get out of work, but instead, they wait around when their potential customers are still at work and close their small businesses before most of their potential customers get out of work in the afternoon. It's a pity because this mall has better-looking clothes than the other mall across the street. Who told these private business owners that it's best to operate from morning to mid-afternoons? Most of them replicate the same schedule with their opening hours.

(Translated by Google) One of the oldest churches in Chisinau, built in 1804. Over its two-century history, its aspect has undergone some changes - for example, in 1872, the well-known architect Alexander Bernardazzi added an elegant portico. A little later, another floor is added to the main tower - it is its architecture, with notes of the Gothic style, that is visible from behind the nearby houses. However, some experts argue that the church has more ancient roots, and archaeological excavations carried out nearby have found various artifacts of past centuries - maybe in the future we will find new data on the relative history of this temple. In any case, today the Armenian Church is an important attraction, not least due to its beautiful architecture - it is probably one of the most 'monumental' buildings in the city. However, it is not so easy to find a church among the high-rise buildings of a modern city - you cannot do without maps. Among the surrounding high-rise buildings, the church, with its landscaped and landscaped courtyard, is something of an oasis. From a distance it seems small, but inside this sensation disappears - its size is impressive. In the courtyard there are old gravestones and memorial monuments of two tragedies of the Armenian people - 1915 and 1988. It feels like both the church and the area around it are being watched and looked after. Inside the temple, everything is modest, but beautiful, without signs of unnecessary luxury. It's worth noting that I was lucky enough to meet a polite church custodian who gave me a short tour. In general, if you are interested in Kmshinov’s antiquity, I advise you to visit the Armenian Church.

(Translated by Google) The oldest building in Chisinau, built in 1755. Mazarakievskaya Church is clearly visible from the street. Albisoara (where it is a kind of architectural dominant), however, getting to it from the Lower Center is quite difficult, because it is surrounded by multi-storey buildings, courtyards and parking lots. But luckily the locals showed me the way. The area inside is well-groomed and clean, including old tombstones. The church is in good condition. From a distance the building seems small, but up close this feeling disappears - on the contrary, it seemed to me that it seemed to tower over me. I couldn't get inside - I probably came too late. The church has belonged to the Old Believers since about the sixties, after their original temple was demolished. In the end, it is worth noting that the Mazaraki Church creates an interesting contrast with the surrounding Soviet-era concrete buildings - high-rise apartment buildings and the Moldovagaz building. I advise everyone who is interested in the history of the city to visit it - however, probably everyone could see it while driving through Albisoara.

The National Art Museum of Moldova, located in the heart of Chisinau, is a treasure trove of artistic heritage. It features an extensive collection of paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and other works by both local and international artists spanning classical to contemporary art. The museum is housed in two stunning 19th-century buildings showcasing Venetian Baroque and classicism architectural styles. Renovated and with beautifully decorated interiors, it offers a captivating and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
Pictures are beautiful same as the architecture of the museum is... This museum is renovated and looks fresh.

This place is closed if you’re looking for the art museum. I think it’s under construction or renovation. The other art museum is open. Address is 31 August 1989 St 115, Chişinău I walked here for nothing in close to 40C heat. Do not come here unless you want to see the outside. Inside the building is stripped. I peeked through the windows. Maybe it will reopen in a year or two.

The museum is very nice and beautiful. It is in the middle of the town. However, there was a rude lady in the entrance. She couldn’t speak English (despite the fact that we’re in a museum-a tourist choice) but the worst part was that she was very aggressive with us because we could not understand about the ticket prices.

The art museum in Chişinău is located on: 31 August 1989 St 115 (close to Pushkin st.) !!! It is not located where most Google maps searches show, NOT on Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Bvd.

This museum is closed, its windows are broken and we can see through them that the inside is completely abandonned. I don't know why some people keep saying on the Google page that it is "open" or "temporarly closed" but it is not true!

The National Museum of Arts of the Republic of Moldova is situated in 31 August 1989 street. It is located in two beautiful edifices erected at the end of the 19th century. One building represents a sample of Venetian Baroque with numerous ornaments on the main facade. The second edifice, built in 1897, reveals imprints of classicism. However the exterior of the building is in contrast with luxuriously decorated interiors. A gallery was built in the mid-70's, which joined the two edifices to form an integral ensemble dedicated to the permanent exposition of the museum. The photographs are part of Muziotopia project (2009) that I have did in close collaboration with KSA:K (Contemporary Art Centre Chisinau) and Stefan Russo- curator. The theme of the Muziotopia project was the visual representation of national identity through heritage museums.
