Robberg Nature Reserve, situated in Plettenberg Bay, is a coastal and marine preserve offering a variety of attractions for nature enthusiasts. The reserve boasts panoramic views of the bay and Tsitsikamma Mountains, dramatic cliffs, caves, sandy beaches, and a lively colony of Cape fur seals. Visitors can also spot wildlife such as dolphins, whales, and the rare blue duiker antelope. Additionally, the reserve features Stone Age relics and offers opportunities for activities like hiking and trail running.
Absolutely incredible! One of the best hikes I’ve done in South Africa. The scenery is out of this world, dramatic cliffs, ocean views, seals on the rocks, and long stretches of untouched beach. You can choose shorter or longer trail loops depending on your time and energy. Totally worth it though! Pack water, sunscreen, and good shoes.
Kim K — Google review
Such beauty Incredible scenery to take in, and good birdlife. The hike is incredible, although slightly challenging in places, so make sure you're wearing decent shoes. The beach is awesome and the island is well worth a visit. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here, even if it was just for an afternoon
Jason B — Google review
Great place to hike. Definitely plan to do the big hike (min. 4 hrs.). Hike is not really complicated but you have to climb over rocks so I would rate it as mid to hard. You can see (and smell) the seals and also the great scenery. One of the best hikes we did in South Africa. We also saw a lot of dolphins and a whale (unfortunately far away but you can see them). The shark watcher also said he saw a big white shark a week before our visit.
Leon B — Google review
Another beautiful place which is a must visit. Got to see live and dead seals, comorants and a dead whale on the beach. Its a bit of hike and we need good shoes with proper grip to walk on slippery rocks.
Thomas J — Google review
GORGEOUS views. We did the mid-sized trail and it was intense already - some difficult pieces along the way, but nothing impossible. Keep following the signs and you should have no problem. If you can, go with impermeable shoes all closed because of the sand. The seals are easy to hear and spot, but binoculars make it easier. It’s amazing, you will love it.
Fábio A — Google review
An amazing hiking trail! I would say it’s more of an intermediate-level hike, with breathtaking views along the way. The untouched, virgin beaches felt like part of a dream. My boys especially loved spending time there—they even created a fun character called “PEPE”, complete with multiple defense systems to protect him from the wild, crashing waves. It was such a memorable and adventurous experience!
Sara A — Google review
Parking can be challenging on the weekends but this place is stunning. We went on a 2 km hike, just past the gap and then back, and saw a huge pod of dolphins swimming by. Seals had joined in on their hunt and we watched as they frolicked. Beautiful coast.
Erin G — Google review
Exceptionally beautiful place. We did the Gap Trail, and we loved every step of it. It's not always easy, but the views are fantastic. We saw the seals, many birds, sharks and several gorgeous beaches.

Old Nick Village in Plettenberg Bay is a charming shopping destination with a rich history dating back to the 19th century. The main building complex, which was once a general dealer, dates back to 1880. Visitors can explore beautiful gardens, galleries, and artisan shops while experiencing the laid-back vibes of the town. The village offers a variety of locally made crafts and souvenirs for travelers looking to take home unique mementos from their Garden Route trip.
Known as the Wednesday market. A lovely, safe market to visit, have a walk around, shop, have a quick bite and enjoy the outdoors. Chat to people from Plett and surrounding areas, converse with the stall holders, learn about the culture of the area and soak up the sunshine. There are a few seating areas / benches. Toilet facilities are available on site. Parking and entrance is free. Support local✨the market is only open on Wednesdays
Meheshree P — Google review
One of the nicest and most authentic markets I've been to. You can easily spend a few hours here on a market day. Outside of that it's still a great place to have a coffee of visit the Boplaas and other little shops.
Gerhard G — Google review
Stunning place along the garden route with lush gardens, the MUNGO mill and shop, a restaurant and food hub, and an amazing playground for children of all ages. Definitely worth a visit.
Joan A — Google review
Cute shops and a lot to do. The Old Mill factory (Mungo) welcomes visitors to have a look around and experience the inside of the Mill. There's a food hub, little shops around and a nursery for the green thumbs. Additionally, there's a Chocolatier shop that has a chocolate fountain. My husband and I had a chocolate shot (a chocolate shot cup with chocolate from the fountain). The lady said that the record for the most chocolate shots is 8 shots!! Tempted, but just 1 was enough for us. Lastly, there's a scratch patch! On Wednesdays, they have a market as well. Give it a go.
Leilah — Google review
Since my last visit a year ago, there really seems to have been a renewed investment in upgrading, tidying up, and modernizing this venue. The new painted buildings, newly sown lawns and new paved areas, nice kiddies play area, new Potter behind and above nursery and gardens in good health all lead to a less run down hippy hang out experience that other than the restaurant had us and our friends avoiding it in the past. The selection of stores and offerings are now really first class.
Richard M — Google review
Awesome place! My dog and I spent a few hours wondering around the gardens which have some beautiful and unique flowers. We enjoyed some amazing stores which are more for tourists and perhaps the more effluent locals, but unique crafts and gift options. The restaurant serves fresh squeezed juice and freshly baked breads. There is even tahini and Halva spread available. Excellent place to enjoy some time with family, kids, pets or as a solo experience.
Donovan G — Google review
Nice little stop over for cofee and lunch should you choose. Did not eat but the menu seemed nice. Lots of other little shops to visit. There is dogs allowed if you have a dog that you want to bring. The toilets is clean but small. Nice stop
Werner G — Google review
What a gem! Several independent designer shops and stalls all on one location. So much to see. Soap, art, pottery, weavery, designer goods as well as a restaurant that also offers genuine vegan options. Worth while to stop over and just walk through the shops. Also has a large outdoor play area for kiddies and lots of parking.

Keurbooms Lagoon boasts a beautiful beach that varies in size depending on the tides and other factors such as rainfall and water flow from the mountains. The water color ranges from a deep senna shade caused by tannins to crystal clear, especially during summer when the river bottom is shallow and white. This creates an illusion of being on a pristine desert island.
Best camping site we have been to yet. Ablutions were squeaky clean. The staff were so so friendly and helpful. The views were incredible and we loved kayaking there. We kayaked up the lagoon with seals! Such an awesome experience.
Anastasia M — Google review
What a beautiful place to camp / Glamp, the grounds are well maintained, the ablution blocks are clean all the time, the view is stunning and what lovely staff, they are friendly, helpful and keep the place meat and clean 24/7. This is one of my favorite camping grounds on the garden route, not too expensive either. Thank you Keurbooms lagoon, we will definitely be back 🤩
Grace S — Google review
This place is an absolute dream. The most incredible sunrise views, so make sure you wake up for them! The lagoon is so peaceful to just stare at all day and the many different bird calls are delightful to wake up to. The bathrooms were always clean, the showers were hot and wonderful and the staff are super friendly. For all these reasons, I would highly recommend this amazing campsite!
Sam G — Google review
This is a really great campsite! The bathrooms in particular, are very neat, modern and serviced daily. There are over 200 level, grassy sites to choose from and the lagoon at sunrise is spectacular! There are lots to see and do in the area and will definitely recommend spending some time here....
Robin L — Google review
Beautiful open lagoon, crystal clear blue water. Temperature of the water was cold. But refreshing! Toilets clean, 5 star on the service of trash cans being emptied everyday.
Jared S — Google review
I have stayed here a few times now, and in my books probably one of the best camp sites in South Africa. Having the lagoon right in front of you like that is hard to beat!. Great for families who boat and like to fish, .. but even if you dont its just a stunning place. Best ablutions ever!!
Wayne D — Google review
We camped after the Christmas season and got a waterfront plot on the lagoon. It was beautiful to wake up to the sunrise. We snorkelled along the edge of the lagoon it was like an aquarium. You can cycle to the shops on a cycle path. The ablutions are clean and the staff are friendly. We felt very safe.

Situated near Robberg Beach, it provides stunning views of the beach and the surrounding area. Guests can enjoy leisure activities such as walks on the beach or relaxing days by the sea. The lodge also features an outdoor pool, sauna, and fitness center for recreational opportunities.
Plettenberg is a great place with a gigantic beach and a large rob colony. We staid in a lodge named Periwinkle Lodge, a great place! We were given a warm welcome. The room was nice. The tables for breakfast are situated on the balcony and you have a wonderful scenery with the ocean, the waves and often Dolphins. Breakfast is really incredible! There is a huge variety and all the items are decorated in an extremely appetizing way - wow, hard to beat! The two guys that lead the lodge are very very funny with a good humour and helpful. We would always stay their again. Warmest regards, Reinhard and Frank
Frank — Google review
We stayed here for 2 nights in December. It started off really well with a nice check in with coffee and cake. The views are to die for but lots of improvements elsewhere are needed. I was a bit disappointed by the room was it has ants in the room coming from both the balcony and bathroom. In addition the small pool has only 4 deck chairs and we couldn't really use the pool until late in the evening. Also no pool towels were avaliable ( the cleaners took it from our room). Nice location but service to be improved.
Ivan D — Google review
What a beautiful place. Small pool with a view of the sea. Rich breakfast buffet. Heidi and her team take care of the guests' wishes with great commitment. Heidi sent the charger, which we had forgotten, to Cape Town. Many thanks for the great excursion informations.

Super nice rooms (yey for floor heating) and the best breakfast ever. The pool is kinda shallow but still nice. I can only recommend getting the afternoon cake/snack, ours was awesome

Probably the accomodation ever. 5 stars are too less... Everything was amazing, the room, the cheminay, the bathroom, the balcony, the breakfast. The staff is also very nice and friendly and provided nice recommendations for the places nearby.

Robberg Peninsula is a rugged and narrow stretch of land that houses a nature reserve featuring a popular hiking trail. The peninsula also boasts a massive seal colony, offering visitors the chance to observe these playful animals up close through boat rides, snorkeling, or scuba diving. Additionally, the area features 15 kilometers of golden beaches from Keurboomstrand to Robberg Peninsula, interrupted only by a river mouth and Beacon Island.
Second time hiking this magical place... improvements have been made on the steeper bits with rails and ropes to assist the wobbly..
Laura B — Google review
All in one, best small nature reserve in SA. You get a bit of everything and if you lucky you might see great white sharks from above.
Chantel N — Google review
The 'trail' is ok if you only do the first bit, No1. DO NOT take any of the other two, unless you are very fit, a moderate experienced mountaineer, don't suffer from vertigo or as barking mad as the ones who designed and opened that trail. Although I am neither, except maybe a bit mad, I survived, whereby 'survived' is the operational word. Narrow paths, if at all, climbing over and between rocks. with the rock face on one, and a hundred metres down to the ocean on the other. absolutely ridiculous to even suggest it as a 'trail', which suggests no particular skills other than two good legs. Well, if you're game go and tell me I'm wrong.
George D — Google review
Absolutely loved Robberg Peninsula, it only cost 60 Rand which compared to Storms Bay at 400 Rand is a bargain and SO much better. You see geology in action and see the puddle stone. The walk can be difficult at times but so worth it, the sand dune and views are glorious – definitely worth the detour!
Aran G — Google review

Beautiful conservation area. The area is clean and have a selection of hiking routes. The longest one is 'The Point' a round trip hike that takes about 4 hours to complete. What an amazing dining experience. Away from the hustle and bustle of the main street during the busy holiday season this restaurant has stylish decor and provides a tranquil setting overlooking the ocean. The staff are very professional, friendly and accommodating to find options to suit your dietary requirements. The portion sizes are more than enough and tasty. Enjoy a cocktail to cool down in the summer heat and come and relax at Amelia's. Be sure to make a booking well in advance over the holiday season and give them a call to see if there is a gap even if the online booking shows it is full.

A lovely evening meal at Amelia’s. The hotel is gorgeously decorated and the bar looked lovely too. The staff were all smiley and chatty, and it was nice to see a restaurant busy and lots of people enjoying themselves. Really tasty and well presented meals. A lovely salad and poke to start, and great tuna for me and veg curry for hubbie as a main. And a full vegan menu if needed. Two very minor let downs only. The poppadum served with the curry was not crispy, and the sorbets we had after were a bit watery. But very minor comments on what was an excellent meal. We haven’t been drinking and so took a bottle of non alcoholic wine with us and paid corkage of R95 which was a bargain. Super service and great food.

Sanctuary Beach in Plettenberg Bay is a serene and tranquil sandy haven, surrounded by shrub-covered dunes. This idyllic beach offers a peaceful escape from the bustling tourist areas, making it perfect for long relaxing days. It is also an excellent spot for solitary walks to clear the mind and rejuvenate. The name truly reflects its essence, providing a safe and serene environment to unwind and find inner peace.
Sanctuary Beach in Plettenberg Bay is truly one of the most peaceful and beautiful places I’ve ever visited. From the moment I stepped onto the soft, golden sand, I felt instantly relaxed. The beach is wide and open, giving you plenty of space to enjoy without feeling crowded. I loved the natural surroundings – the dunes, the sea breeze, and the sound of the waves all come together to create a calming atmosphere. What stood out to me the most was how clean and well-kept the beach was. It felt safe, serene, and perfect for long, quiet walks. I especially appreciated that it’s dog-friendly, so if you’re traveling with a pet, it’s ideal. The water was clear and inviting, and although I didn’t swim much, just walking along the shore with the waves at my feet was amazing. There’s something special about the slower pace at Sanctuary Beach. It’s not overly commercial or packed with tourists, which makes it feel more personal and peaceful. It’s the kind of place where you can just sit, breathe, and take in the beauty around you. I left feeling refreshed and already wanting to return. Sanctuary Beach is a hidden gem, and I absolutely loved my time there.

Nice beach. I'd just have to say, make sure to get you bearings where you come down from the car parking. Once you're on the beach it's difficult to tell one set of steps from another and where they lead to.

A beach off season has an exceptional appeal ! A warm sunny mid winter July day and we walked for miles - we loved the dog stick sign and that the locals were warm and kind - it surprised us to see just how many beach walkers there were at this time - perhaps Plett is more of an all year round destination after all ! Do go any season of the year - you won’t regret it 🇿🇦

There are shower facilities and team of trained lifeguards on the lookout. Not sure about the Shark kit station, but there were few jellyfish in the water. Might have difficulty finding a spot to park.

This stretch of coastline is fantastic! It's beautiful, the waters are a deep blue although quite cold, and the sand is soft and golden. The surrounding views are among the best you will find in Plett. They magnificent! The beach is expansive perfect for long walks, sunbathing and walking the dogs. It's popular with surfers too because of the swells.

Lovely little beach. Soft sand. Lots of broken shells though. Out of season it is VERY quiet. Don’t sit on the benches, they smell of urine.

Clean beach with washroom facilities to change. Saw many families having great time but it was not crowded. Surfing also happens on it

Central Beach is a popular spot among locals and families in Plettenberg Bay. It's known for its good restaurants and bars, making it a great place to grab lunch. The beach is part of a collection of sandy white beaches in the area, including Lookout Beach, Keurboomstrand, and Robberg Beach. Central Beach is particularly busy during the summer season when it attracts holidaymakers.
A most beautiful beach even on a chilly winters day - clean - ample parking - nice facilities - lovely cafes and restaurants- lifesaving and NSRI at hand - beautiful views across the bay and a lovely community of locals ! Highly recommended no matter the weather 🌦️⛈️

Nice venue. Very popular during holiday seasons. Plett is always a great place to spend time. Been visiting for 40+ years and it never disappoints.

Plett Beach is pure bliss! 🌊 It was so relaxing to just sit back and soak in the atmosphere. Even though it wasn’t peak season, the beach still had a wonderful energy with a fair number of people enjoying the sun and sea. What stood out was how safe and well-managed it felt—lifeguards were on duty, which gave us peace of mind. We were lucky enough to watch seals frolicking in the waves, and the seagulls made for the perfect photo moments (we even fed them and got the most beautiful shots 📸). This beach has everything—natural beauty, a lively yet laid-back vibe, and those little unexpected moments that make it unforgettable. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and can’t wait to come back.

I loved how clean it is. There are garbage bins everywhere. The place feels safe. It is also good for swimming. The paintings from the vendors are spectacular.

Plettenberg Bay, fondly called Plett, is South Africas seaside sweetheart with beaches so golden they make your SPF cry. First spotted by Portuguese explorers in 1487 and now overrun by sunburnt Europeans pretending to be surfers, it is the Garden Route’s glossy postcard child. Here you can swim with dolphins if they’re in the mood, watch whales breach while you chew overpriced calamari, or just stare at the Indian Ocean and wonder how long before global warming makes this your front yard. The bay is ringed by Robberg Nature Reserve, a scenic hike that tricks you into thinking you’re athletic while Cape fur seals laugh at your cardio. In short, Plettenberg Bay is where the jet set meets the sea gulls, bucket lists get a tick, and sand finds its way into body parts science still hasn’t named.

Central Beach is a wide open clean beach in Plettenberg Bay. It’s across from Beacon Island and there’s a river that feeds into it, but it looks like an ideal surfer and sunbathing spot (in summer). There are lifeguards on duty and there’s also a full service NSRI station located right on the beach for high speed response times and that makes you feel much safer. Parking is ample and free.
Duncan A — Google review
Always a great beach to visit. The bathrooms were clean, the restaurant was fair and the ice-cream shop was fantastic. There are a number of activities available from boat rides to snorkeling. The water was freezing though. 🥶
Edward C — Google review
Great beach to relax and swim . It's calm and clean not too busy . Just good vibes and a nice day out . Facilities are close by like ablutions and a few shops and restaurants . Ocean boat rides depart directly from the beach and launched via tractor , this was really cool to watch .as it operates like a mini sea airport with boats being pushed out to sea and retrieved back from sea by the green tractor .

The Robberg Beach Lodge - Lion Roars Hotels & Lodges is a modern beachside resort in Plettenberg Bay, offering comfortable rooms and suites. The lodge provides stunning ocean views from its rooftop deck and features inviting pools for relaxation. Situated in a bohemian seaside town overlooking the bay and mountains, the lodge is close to hipster coffee shops, seafood restaurants, boutiques, and various attractions such as nature reserves, golf courses, animal sanctuaries, and beautiful beaches.
We had three nights in a Double luxury room, just perfect for everything, a short drive into Plettenberg for some shopping or a meal out. The Beach was straight out of the front door across the road. The food and wine was amazing, I had the Steak one night which was perfectly cooked to my liking. The Breakfast had plenty of choice and excellent quality. WiFi worked where ever you were in the hotel. Definitely recommend The Beach lodge as a place to stay if you’re traveling the garden route.

The view is beautiful, which is the only good thing about this hotel, so I’m giving it two stars. The hotel itself is old and worn down, nothing like the pictures. It’s overpriced, noisy, and humid. The staff seemed uninterested and unfriendly. It’s definitely not worth the price. We didn’t feel comfortable at all and were relieved when we could finally leave.

Stayed for 3 nights on our honeymoon trip and absolutely loved it. The staff were so lovely, friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel very welcomed. The room was beautiful, such breathtaking views of the sea and had everything we needed. The breakfasts were delicious, cold and hot food included, and the one dinner we had in the restaurant was great. No complaints and would highly recommend.

A truly wonderful hotel with beautifully designed and comfortable rooms that make you feel at home right away. The location is perfect – peaceful, yet close to everything you might want to explore. The cuisine is exceptional, with a great selection of delicious and well-prepared dishes. What really makes the difference, though, is the staff: everyone is incredibly friendly, helpful, and always ready to go the extra mile to ensure a pleasant stay. We felt truly welcomed and well taken care of throughout our visit. Highly recommended!

Very basic rooms with the sea view on the ground floor the windows were very flimsy and felt insecure. The staff, other than one-off the waiters, were not very friendly or attentive and there wasn't anything around the hotel to walk to.

Beautiful great value for money unit, home away from home, comfortable friendly accommodation option short or longer stays. Very neat, well serviced, easy and professional check in provided by host. Set in lovely serene surrounds. Central to all amenities. Recommended!

We stayed at 11 River Club for 3 nights during June. We had a fairly comfortable stay. We found the place very clean which was a bonus. Unfortunately, there are serious matters needing attention from the owners. 1. The oven is rusty and does not cook the food properly. Rust is extremely toxic when heated and toxic to ones health. This oven needs to be replaced. 2. The fridge make a very loud noise 24 hours a day. We found it difficult to sleep with all the noise it continuously makes. 3. The couch in the lounge, you are unable to sit on it without falling into a hole. The bathroom towels, only one towel per person. During winter and rainy seasons, there should be at least 2 towels per person. With no tumble dryer to assist in drying the towels, we were constantly drying ourselves with wet towels.
Suzarne J — Google review
Nice gated estate near to the beach. The only missing things would be a little store inside the area (or a notice that the butcher and bakery are right over the street) and maybe one more gate with direction to the ocean. The personal is friendly and welcoming and all houses look good serviced (from the outside)

We had the appartment here. It was nice everything you need even a washing machine and dryer. The terrace was pretty big also the rooms are. 2 nice bathrooms. This was the perfect apparment to stay. View on the sea (located on the beach). All restaurants nearby. You can't have a better location. The breakfast did take very long to bake an egg, but it was good.

I happened upon this place, almost "by mistake". On a "going nowhere slowly" road trip, I arrived in Plett early evening and drove around looking for somewhere to stay for a night or two. Called the number on their board outside the hotel and voila! The best find EVER! It's across the road from the best swimming beach in Plett and surrounded by great restaurants; it's also a 3 minute drive to another plethora of restaurants on the main road. The staff are unbelievably kind, efficient, friendly and attentive! The rooms are spacious, bright and just so practical. Amazing, large, high-pressure shower. They have a generator for when loadshedding kicks in. The hotel has the feel of a boutique establishment without being pretentious, with fewer than 15 rooms. Their rates are unbeatable value for money and include a made-to-order hot breakfast as well as a buffet continental offering. And they have a wonderful coffee machine in the lobby, that is complimentary around the clock. Safe and plentiful parking. I highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to return.

This is a really well located accommodation facility. The staff are super friendly, the rooms are very modern, comfortable and spotless. Excellent breakfast served every morning too. I would highly recommend staying here if in Plett. Definitely one of the best places we stayed in during our three week trip to South Africa.

We stayed in room no. 4 and it was really relaxing. Quiet, comfy bed with ample space, shower was amazing with high pressure and an aircon for the hot nights. The hostel provides amenities such as hot showers, satellite TV lounge, free Wi-Fi, and beautiful views from the dining area and balcony. Situated near Main Street, guests have easy access to shops, restaurants, and pubs.
This place doesn't necessarily deserve 5 star (maintenance needed) but Debbie, the manager, does. She was the most heartwarming and welcoming host. She is very knowledgeable on the area and she has the comfort of guests at heart. Thank you for everything ❤️ The location of the backpacker is amazing, the room is spacious and the kitchen is well equipped. Everything was super clean all the time ! However, as said, maintenance is needed in the room.

Basically the BnB is clean (rubbish was not empty though) and does not smell bad. Nevertheless, we encountered a few problems. Let's start with our room. There were four of us in the Groote River Room. This looks blown down. You can tell the age of a lot of the furniture, it creaks and you can see the press marks. The mattresses are basically okay but still hard. Now to the big drawback of the room, on Booking.com it said kitchen included, but I still think that a kitchen should have a sink. But we didn't have one. The water pressure in the bathroom was good, but the shower head had calcified. During the night, the power also went off once and after it came on, the socket strips with our mobile phone chargers were without power but the TV with power and being woken up in the middle of the night by a loud TV is not pleasant. In addition, the water tap of the washbasin was falling off and turning it on with one hand was not an option. Finally, I would like to mention the high-speed internet, which was a great 2m/bits (slow) maximum in the room, but I also saw 0.06 m/bits with an internet speed test.

We had a truly memorable stay at Ocean Watch Guest House. The location is ideal - just a short walk to the nearest beach and within easy reach of excellent restaurants, shops, and attractions - yet the atmosphere remains peaceful and serene. The views across the bay are breathtaking, and the guest house itself is elegant and beautifully decorated with thoughtful attention to detail. Every corner of the property was spotlessly clean and inviting. Vanessa, the manager, along with her wonderful team, made us feel so welcome. Their friendliness and helpfulness were much appreciated. Mornings began with delicious breakfasts that were the perfect way to start each day. We can’t recommend Ocean Watch highly enough. It’s a gem in Plettenberg Bay and we look forward to returning!

Great location close to the city center, nice service, and great view from the upper terrace. Breakfast is fair and consists of a small buffet and freshly served eggs (bread, yoghurt etc.) Our room was rather small and dark, but the price-performance ratio was good.

Clean and very comfortable place. Vanessa and team were so friendly and hospitable. The fact that they remember small details like what your plans were for that day, or how you like your eggs in the morning was so meaningful. Nice shared space, pool, deck, and incredible views. We were in the “Captains” room which had a very large bathroom and generously sized bedroom. Safe and secure parking, great breakfast, walking distance to restaurants and beach.

We had a good stay in the Ocean Watch Guest House. The view on Plett is amazing, location is very good (walking distance from the main street), staff friendly and the rooms are clean. We were just unfortunate that we booked the Rose Room and this room is just too small and doesn’t have any A/C. So make sure you book the right room (with a view) if you want to stay here!

Nicely decorated hotel, beautiful views and a nice host. Downsides are the price (we paid 2.5k rand a night for the shell room) for a very small room, breakfast is decent and when we left for the day I left the towels on the floor. Parking very cramped and very few visitors parking. We have a double cab and have dented our vehicle many times going in and out of the cramped parking as the undercover parking has wooden poles all over the place and you may not swop with another resident. We had a very comfortable stay at Bayside Lodge in the self catering cottage. The cottage is well equiped and cosey, clean and fresh. It has a heater, under carpet heating and electical blankets to protect you from the cold winter. It even has a ceiling heater in the bathroom! The kitchen/living room is very well layed out and comfortable. There is an outside patio with a braai for the cottage use. It is situated a short walk to the beach and close enough to shops. We had a super time with the hosts Bernie and Adrienne who were very friendly and helpfull with all our requirements and knowledge of the area. A super visit and highly recommended.

What a great stay!!! Clean space and comfortable bed that had an electric blanket for the chilly nights. The weather was perfect during the day for a braai in the lovely common area. The garden was lush and beautiful. Too bad I did not get a chance to swim this time, but the pool was clean and they had enough loungers to host a party by the pool. Robyn and Mike are fantastic hosts and I look forward to seeing them on my next stay.

We had the most wonderful time at this beautiful location. The delightful hosts really care about their guests, and made our stay memorable. Clean, bright accommodation. Great kitchen. A lovely, accessible braai area with wood and firelighters supplied. A lovely small pool and a beautifully maintained garden. Pet-friendly and securely enclosed. Central enough to make the Plett hub a quick drive, but far enough away from the busy-ness to be quiet and peaceful. Our hosts gave us great ideas for restaurants and fishing tips. They are such good people who really spoil their guests! We loved every minute of being there! Thank you so much Peter and René! 💙

I stayed here with my family and we were happy with our stay. A few things that made me happy: Booking and confirmation: seamless Rates: Affordable Accessibility: Easy Cleanliness and hygiene: super The Hosts: Friendly and wonderful people. They personally prepared and served our breakfast each day and also spent some time chatting with us Breakfast: Good, nicely prepared and served at a time of our convenience. The compound: neat and well maintained I liked the library too but I didn’t ask if you can borrow a book since I had mine, but the hosts are good people and I’m sure they wouldn’t mind lending out a book for the duration of your stay. I definitely recommend this place!

I only spent 1 night, but had an amazing experience! The place is a little oasis in Plett, and the hosts are the best, so warm & welcoming. I didn't have a car and Peter went out of his way so that I could make the most of my short stay, giving me rides to Robberg Island and around town. Room was spotless, very comfy & good wifi. I will come back & stay longer next time!

We had an amazing time at this guest house. The rooms are beautiful and the view is simply stunning. Staff is so friendly and a great breakfast overlooking the ocean is the perfect start into the day. There are numerous restaurants and a supermarket in walking distance. It is also safe to walk back at night which is not always the case and we really appreciated that.

Called to find out about availability and owner was quite rude and just dismissed me when I simply asked if there’s availability. No stories. A plain, “unfortunately we are fully booked” would’ve been kind and straightforward to a prospective client of yours. Basic customer service.
Zahra H — Google review
The loveliest stay of our trip to South Africa was right here. A nice safe locale. The host was a kind elderly couple. They gave us a fabulous room which was just mind blowing. It had its own big balcony from which we could see the Plettenberg bay. They also have a well equipped kitchen where you're seated during the breakfast to give a fabulous view of the Plett. The only regret was not staying there longer.

We enjoyed a very comfortable overnight stay at this lovely property along the garden route. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean with a nice outdoor patio overlooking the hillside. From check in to check out, the staff was very friendly and helpful and made sure we were comfortable. We had a very nice breakfast as we chatted with the owner. Would highly recommend a stay here.

We were treated like royalty. The staff is friendly, professional and very welcoming. Our room had a gorgeous view, was spacious, sparkling clean and the decor was warm and inviting. The room had everything and more that we needed - mini fridge, coffee station, comfortable bed, and litlle extras like a hairdryer and more. Breakfast was excellent. The location of the Guesthouse is perfect - quiet, but close enough to walk to the shops. We would like to thank Danie and his team for making our stay comfortable and very special. We will definitely visit again soon.🤍

Don't be fooled by the size of this hotel, it is indeed small but their service is excellent! Rooms are well equipped with a mini fridge, two water bottles (first day), hairdryer, coffee press machine and a kettle. Instructions are very well given upon arrival and you can also make use of their communal kitchen and laundry machine (please not you have to pay extra to use the drying machine), but they also have space for you to hang your clothes, so not a biggie. Breakfast was amaaazing, really tasty and the kitchen/breakfast room offers a beautiful view of the city. Rooms were not big at all, but extremely comfy and quiet, the view from the room is also amazing. Staff were incredible from checkin to check out! This hotel exceeded my expectations and is better than many 5 star hotels.

Spent three days simply relaxing and enjoying the views, peace and tranquility of this self catering establishment. Very close to all amenities and within a very safe 24 hr manned entry / exit control within the golf estate. The small management team made sure we were comfortable and very friendly towards us. Definitely on our “to return list”

Superlative and ultimate calm resting place for those whio need a base in Pleetenberg region, just off N2 en route to Tstiskama. Excellent clean facilities- swimming pool, kitchen, lounge, bbq and of course rooms. The view over the bay is beautiful and has its own private walkway to the lagoon. Its located within a secure enclosed golf course. However the icing on the cake is the owner Kasia, who shows unbelievable kindness, care and attention, as she ensures you arrive safely and then will advise you on all things local depending on your needs and requests. She subsequently regularly checks in with you to make sure your trip is hassle free. So strongly recommend you stay here you wint be disappointed.

Great serene surroundings, quiet and private. Clean rooms and facilities. Lovely rustic decor and furniture. Enjoyed seeing an old wood stove and heater again. Green vegetation all around, pleasant touch with nature. Recommendations: Hot water system needs to be upgraded. We slept with open doors, locks were dysfunctional. No one to orientate and settle us in or to answer questions. No information available regarding menus, price list and the like. Add small touches, e.g. disposable toothbrushes, razors and the like, for the forgetful guest.

We had the best time here. It's perfect for a big group. It caters for diverse interests, very close to the river, town, hikes etc. Big garden with great bird life. Lovely outside entertainment area. Very friendly and efficient staff. We loved it and we will be back.

What a let down. Supposedly wheelchair friendly but sadly their photos are deceiving. Prime spot, on a golfing estate (although one isn't looking onto the course), but it's dreadfully outdated. TV didn't work, so were the curtains & the owner uses foul language. The only thing that was going for it was the roll-in shower. It suited more for backpackers, we won't be going back.

Rainer and his wife are excellent hosts. The B&B is very clean, nice and the pool / bar area is perfect for relaxing and getting in contact with other guests or Rainer. In fact Rainer is the best story teller of the world, simply because he has almost seen the whole world during his travels. We even stayed with him at the pool bar until 3 am talking although the plan was only to grab a welcome drink. Thanks so much for the wonderful time we had with you - we simply can highly recommend this place in all manners!

I can only recommend the Lala Panzi B&B, not because of having been there (unfortunately), but because of excellent, timely and sustainable support received in an unfortunatel situation my wife and myself came in recently as a result of floodings in the area end of September 2023. As we could not reach the booked Lala Panzi B&B, they recommended us a reachable B&B, and were very supportive with the regulation of our existing booking. Looking forward to a stay there once the situation allows.

Southern Cross Beach House is a charming beachfront B&B that perfectly blends colonial elegance with modern comfort. Nestled in a serene location, it offers guests stunning views of the ocean and the Tsitsikamma mountains, making it an ideal retreat for those seeking tranquility. The well-appointed rooms are not only immaculate but also thoughtfully designed to enhance your stay. Guests rave about the delightful breakfast prepared by Wendy, particularly her homemade crepes, which add a personal touch to the experience.
Had a wonderful stay at Southern Cross Beach House. Wendy the host was full of knowledge and recommendations for the area. The house itself has lovely views looking out over the ocean and across to the Tsitsikamma mountains. The rooms were extremely clean and very well presented and designed. Wendy’s breakfast was also wonderful, with a special mention going to her homemade crepes. I originally was unsure if I wanted to stay outside of the main hub of plettenberg but am so glad we did. The location of southern cross beach house was just a short drive from town (making it very quiet and peaceful) and also closer to the Robberg Nature Reserve which hosts one of the best hikes in the world. Very happy with our stay and would highly recommend to others.
Millie E — Google review
This is going to be my first very long review because there’s so much to say. We arrived at the beach house and we were surprised to find the helper Joe waiting for us instead of the manager. According to the website, the inspiration for the beach house is Mauritius, but clearly the warmth of Mauritian people was not present. We got quite a small room for 5 nights. There was no air conditioning, no fridge and a broken safe. Anyhow we were excited about the architecture of the house, the aesthetics and the location. At night after taking a well deserved shower, my daughter found a black scorpion in the bathroom. I went outside to look for help and there was no one except for 4 guests. Someone upstairs must have heard me because the next moment, the helper Joe miraculously appeared with a dustpan and a brush to get rid of the scorpion. We decided to use a towel to block the big gap under the door because we didn’t want any more unpleasant surprises. The next day, we met the manager Wendy who told us breakfast is served at 8.30 am. That’s quite late especially if you want to go out for activities before it gets too hot. I told Wendy about the scorpion and instead of reassuring me she told me that there could even be big spiders and snakes! Excuse me, but what kind of manager/ host does that? We stayed 5 nights; the breakfast was repetitive and rationed. One muffin and 1 croissant per person. Same thing every day. Another big problem that I had was the lack of service. As from midday, the place is empty. If you need help or anything else there’s no one around. God forbid if you have an emergency then good luck! At one point we were the only guests, which is no wonder considering the price and the service. We didn’t have a car, so dinner was a bit problematic and we didn’t get any help from the host. Wendy told me she was going to give me the number to call a taxi but never did, so fortunately I managed to find a taxi in this unknown area. Since there was no fridge in the room, we had to walk back and forth every day to the kitchen and this is a 4*? We paid 17,500 rands and to my surprise there was a room with a kitchen that was completely empty. If she wanted she could have upgraded us. I find it very strange that rather than making their guests feel more comfortable, they left us in a small room with a very old toilet. Two times I have called Wendy because I needed help and both times she didn’t pick up the phone. When i asked her she said she sleeps at 6.00 pm ! If my flight wasn’t booked I would have checked out earlier; wouldn’t have mattered if I lost money. The place is very pretty but the service is not good. The only friendly faces were Eunice, Joe, William and Akim. The two dogs Marley and Summer are so lovable, they made up for the bad service we got. This place is so overrated and overpriced and also made me think of apartheid times ! You can have a beautiful gorgeous guest house but if you don’t treat your guests equally the beauty is taken away. On the eve of our departure, I was sitting on a couch outside an empty room because I didn’t want to be in the sun. Wendy went inside the room and closed the door behind her. I found it strange thinking, what was she doing inside? Little did I know, she went out using the other door that she left wide open. She must have thought that I will go inside the room so better close the door! This actually made me laugh at how petty a person can be! I have been in South Africa for 23 years and this has been my worst experience so far. Are South African tourists treated this way when they go to 4* hotels in Mauritius? A warning for photographers, you might have the security check up on you if you wake up early to capture a sunrise. The summary of Southern Cross Beach House is, beautiful on the outside but empty inside. Additionally, Wendy is a very condescending person, never made us feel at ease and always made passive aggressive remarks. And the owner? The less said, the better.
Reena M — Google review
Words cannot describe how wonderful our stay was at the Southern Cross Beach House: our warm and generous host Wendy gave us a very much appreciated upgrade upon arrival, room 6 is stunning, spacious and very private. The bed is very comfortable and the room is very clean. The house is ideally located with an easy boardwalk to the long sandy beach and view of the Robberg nature reserve and Tsisikama mountains. The excellent breakfast served on the terrace with the view of the mountains coocked by Wendy and her team was delicious. If you are lucky, one or both of the two resident dogs will grace you with their presence. We had a very special stay (thank you, Wendy, for great and funny conversations), and we certainly will be back.
Lilo Z — Google review
Wow what an amazing place! Wendy and the wonderful staff made such an amazing breakfast with croissants, muffins. Eggs and bacie 🥓, cereal yoghurt, tomatoes 🍅 mushrooms 🍄 bread, fruit, coffee, oj, hot chocolate for breakfast. Swam in the pool. Walked to the beach on a lovely walk way. Bedroom is stunning. Everything is so clean and white. Love the palest pink walls. Awesome view! Saw the biggest dolphins 🐬 swim by. Just breath taking! Definitely going back! ThankYou

Would 100% recommend. The house is beautifully decorated, very tidy and clean. The terrace has a fantastic view and it’s just a short walk to the beach. Great location! Wendy, the manager, is very accommodating and makes a delicious breakfast. Also loved the addition of the honesty bar and the two very friendly dogs on the property. We’ll be sure to visit again.

Our last but one stay on our South African road trip. And yes, what a great place Southern Cross Beach House is. When we arrived the host was there waiting and welcomed us and made us feel right at home from the start. We had room 3 which is just great. Breakfast is served outside on the sun deck and there is a good choice and a fresh cooked breakfast if one wants it. The guest house is only a 10 Mon drive into town where there are plenty of good restaurants to select. The host gave us a really good selection of recommendations that would suite anyone's palate. In all a great quality and quiet guest house. Well recommended
Keith A — Google review
The guesthouse is beautifully decorated. From the garden, there is a beautiful view of the sea and beach. You can exit from the property straight onto a boardwalk that leads you down to the beach, so it is perfect for a walk or day on the beach. The breakfast had loads of options and you could sit outside, watching the sea, when the weather was good! The host helped us with restaurant and activity recommendations. While the location was brilliant for the beach, it is further from town and so you need to drive/taxi to nearby restaurants. So long as you know this, then it is a good place to stay!

Our room was very small, but clean and nicely decorated. Unfortunately being on the groundfloor it was quite exposed. The breakfast was good and the views on the ocean stunning. The house offers direct access to the beautiful beach. From there its a 45 minutes walk to the centre.

If you are looking for cleanliness, ample cupboard space, quiet and peaceful surroundings with beautiful views any time of day, Thanda Vista is an absolute home away from home! Perfectly located - walking distance from the lagoon and sea as well as shops and restaurants. Healthy and delicious breakfasts ensure a tummy-full of energy for the day! Genuine attentive hosts, Ben and Yolanda will make sure you enjoy a stay always to be remembered. They take care of the little things so often missed, fresh white linen, solar for backup energy, seating in the shower, blockout roller blinds if you prefer a completely dark bedroom for the night ... 5 star indeed!

Very clean basic accommodation, very secure and spacious rooms were good, no frills, hot shower. Kitchen well equipped. With good appliances. We found the apartment very cold and allowance for heaters. We were there in the middle of July, imagine great apartment in Summer months. Secure locked parking downstairs. It was a good experience but it really was to cold.

The place is beautiful but would recommend you book it in summer seeing we booked in on the 23rd May. It was warm outside as we managed to visit the beach but our unit 2 was extremely cold with no sunlight coming in at all, no heater, warm blankets only fleece provided. Customer service not so good as we struggled to get hold of them. No Loadshedding scheduled was shared despite us requesting it. Other than that the place is peaceful and beautiful.

Guests can enjoy delightful breakfasts served on the terrace while keeping an eye out for whales during their migration season.
Being a guest in this accommodation is really a pleasure. Both, Linda and Ole, welcome us and invited us to become a part of their live during our stay. Of course, we got an excellent bedroom, with direct access to the terrasse, from where we could enjoy the view across Plett and the beach, but that’s only half of the story. Even more, worth to mention is the fact, we had the pleasure to receive an excellent service, fresh and individual prepared breakfast as well as great recommendations on the things to do in and around Plett. Whether having the need to place a reservation or to book a safe transport service, no worries, all being organized by Linda and Ole. We have had a great time at the Aquavit Guest House – thanks for that. You are curious to know why the guest house is called Aquavit? Just book and find out 😊 I can only recommend it

We really enjoyed our visit to the Elephant Sanctuary in Plettenberg Bay. It was an unforgettable experience for me and my family, walking hand in hand with the elephants and getting so close to these gentle giants. The staff were very friendly and explained everything in a simple and interesting way, which made the visit even more enjoyable. Feeding and interacting with the elephants was truly special, and my kids absolutely loved it. A memorable family experience that we highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

A fantastic park for up-close encounters with elephants. The guides are friendly and incredibly knowledgeable — by the end of your visit, you’ll know each elephant by name: Thandi, Nandi, Thato, and Keisha. To make your visit even more special and connect with the elephants, be sure to buy a basket of vegetables at the counter — they’ll love being fed by you!

Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary is a sanctuary for large cats such as leopards, jaguars and Bengal tigers. The sanctuary operates on a no-touch, no-breed policy. Visitors are advised to bring water with them as it can get hot. Some of the animals were hiding in their shelters or in the shade during the visit but became active during feeding time at 3pm. The tour lasted about an hour and visitors can purchase gifts and enjoy coffee, food and snacks at the restaurant.
We had a wonderful visit to Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary truly an amazing location with a wide variety of animals. We were lucky enough to see almost all of them, except for the elusive black leopard. A big thank you to Bazel, our animal tour guide, for making the experience so informative and memorable! #Jukani #South_Africa

Thank you Jukani for a wonderful visit! My girl had a South African book with her and looked up each animal as we saw it and read all the interesting facts about that animal. I'm not gonna lie, you have to be lucky. Sometimes, the animals will show, sometimes not. Overall, there are enough animals to be sure to see at least half of them As for us, we were pretty lucky. One tiger got up and walked back and forth near the fence for a solid 5 minutes, the lions were sleeping but not far. Only the cheetahs were pretty shy and we could only observe them from a distance. Remember though that this is a refuge for abused animals, THIS IS NOT A ZOO. The owners have no obligation to bait the animals so that you can see them. The guide will do his best to show them to you but without disturbing the animals' daily routine

The enclosure for the animals seem big enough and diverse environment. All are “rescued” from closed zoos or breeding farms. But still it is rather commercial: guiding many many people through the park, shouting and rattling so that every cat is coming to the visitors. Cats also seem a bit chubby.

Hiking Trails
The Harkerville Kranshoek Viewpoint is a stunning location for hiking, offering a shorter route by going south on the west side and then taking the northward shortcut on the east. Although this shortcut can be challenging due to its steepness, overall it's not too difficult. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time to try the exciting zipline, but it's definitely something to consider next time. The Garden Route is relatively easy to reach and surprisingly beautiful.
There's a SAN Parks fee to pay to get in, but if you have a Wildcard, you can go in without paying. Views are amazing, short hiking paths. Toilet facilities at certain places.
Hilton J — Google review
Unparalleled sea, rock and coastline views combined with a short forest area and zipline adrenalin junkies. The 9.2km coastal trail walk should not be tackled by those not familiar with clammering over rocks. Spoilt by faded signage along the coast and plastic waste washed up.
Geoff P — Google review
The views are absolutely gorgeous, but it doesn't make this dangerous walk worth it. The trail is badly marked and uneven terrain makes it rather unsafe. This is not a hike, for almost half of the distance it's a challenging scramble along the side of a mountain.
Ainsley W — Google review
A spectacular viewpoint, though we didn't walk far due to high winds making it almost impossible to stand up. You need a vehicle with good clearance to get down the track and have to pay entrance fees at the national park gate a few kms back. Note that it's one-way from the picnic site: take the left fork there and you loop back by the edge of the valley.

Majestic views of the rugged coastline. If you just come for the view and picnic it’s worth it. If you have time for one of the many hikes or walks around the area even better. 🌅

What a beautiful view! I look forward to my hiking friends visiting so we can do this hike. There’s no signal out there so I won’t attempt this on my own. But at least I got to enjoy the view with some hike coffee.

The Kranshoek Viewpoint is one of the most breathtaking spots along South Africa’s famous Garden Route, offering dramatic coastal and forest views. Located in the Harkerville Forest between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, the viewpoint is part of the Kranshoek Hiking Trails, which range from easy walks to strenuous hikes. The 9-kilometer Kranshoek Coastal Trail is especially popular for its stunning cliffside paths, leading hikers through dense indigenous forests, down to rocky shorelines, and up steep inclines to panoramic vistas. For those seeking a shorter route, a 3.4-kilometer circular hike is available, still providing incredible views with a less intense trek.
