Robberg Nature Reserve, situated in Plettenberg Bay, is a coastal and marine preserve offering a variety of attractions for nature enthusiasts. The reserve boasts panoramic views of the bay and Tsitsikamma Mountains, dramatic cliffs, caves, sandy beaches, and a lively colony of Cape fur seals. Visitors can also spot wildlife such as dolphins, whales, and the rare blue duiker antelope. Additionally, the reserve features Stone Age relics and offers opportunities for activities like hiking and trail running.
Absolutely incredible! One of the best hikes I’ve done in South Africa. The scenery is out of this world, dramatic cliffs, ocean views, seals on the rocks, and long stretches of untouched beach. You can choose shorter or longer trail loops depending on your time and energy. Totally worth it though! Pack water, sunscreen, and good shoes.
Kim K — Google review
Such beauty Incredible scenery to take in, and good birdlife. The hike is incredible, although slightly challenging in places, so make sure you're wearing decent shoes. The beach is awesome and the island is well worth a visit. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here, even if it was just for an afternoon
Jason B — Google review
Great place to hike. Definitely plan to do the big hike (min. 4 hrs.). Hike is not really complicated but you have to climb over rocks so I would rate it as mid to hard. You can see (and smell) the seals and also the great scenery. One of the best hikes we did in South Africa. We also saw a lot of dolphins and a whale (unfortunately far away but you can see them). The shark watcher also said he saw a big white shark a week before our visit.
Leon B — Google review
Another beautiful place which is a must visit. Got to see live and dead seals, comorants and a dead whale on the beach. Its a bit of hike and we need good shoes with proper grip to walk on slippery rocks.
Thomas J — Google review
GORGEOUS views. We did the mid-sized trail and it was intense already - some difficult pieces along the way, but nothing impossible. Keep following the signs and you should have no problem. If you can, go with impermeable shoes all closed because of the sand. The seals are easy to hear and spot, but binoculars make it easier. It’s amazing, you will love it.
Fábio A — Google review
An amazing hiking trail! I would say it’s more of an intermediate-level hike, with breathtaking views along the way. The untouched, virgin beaches felt like part of a dream. My boys especially loved spending time there—they even created a fun character called “PEPE”, complete with multiple defense systems to protect him from the wild, crashing waves. It was such a memorable and adventurous experience!
Sara A — Google review
Parking can be challenging on the weekends but this place is stunning. We went on a 2 km hike, just past the gap and then back, and saw a huge pod of dolphins swimming by. Seals had joined in on their hunt and we watched as they frolicked. Beautiful coast.
Erin G — Google review
Exceptionally beautiful place. We did the Gap Trail, and we loved every step of it. It's not always easy, but the views are fantastic. We saw the seals, many birds, sharks and several gorgeous beaches.

Old Nick Village in Plettenberg Bay is a charming shopping destination with a rich history dating back to the 19th century. The main building complex, which was once a general dealer, dates back to 1880. Visitors can explore beautiful gardens, galleries, and artisan shops while experiencing the laid-back vibes of the town. The village offers a variety of locally made crafts and souvenirs for travelers looking to take home unique mementos from their Garden Route trip.
Known as the Wednesday market. A lovely, safe market to visit, have a walk around, shop, have a quick bite and enjoy the outdoors. Chat to people from Plett and surrounding areas, converse with the stall holders, learn about the culture of the area and soak up the sunshine. There are a few seating areas / benches. Toilet facilities are available on site. Parking and entrance is free. Support local✨the market is only open on Wednesdays
Meheshree P — Google review
One of the nicest and most authentic markets I've been to. You can easily spend a few hours here on a market day. Outside of that it's still a great place to have a coffee of visit the Boplaas and other little shops.
Gerhard G — Google review
Stunning place along the garden route with lush gardens, the MUNGO mill and shop, a restaurant and food hub, and an amazing playground for children of all ages. Definitely worth a visit.
Joan A — Google review
Cute shops and a lot to do. The Old Mill factory (Mungo) welcomes visitors to have a look around and experience the inside of the Mill. There's a food hub, little shops around and a nursery for the green thumbs. Additionally, there's a Chocolatier shop that has a chocolate fountain. My husband and I had a chocolate shot (a chocolate shot cup with chocolate from the fountain). The lady said that the record for the most chocolate shots is 8 shots!! Tempted, but just 1 was enough for us. Lastly, there's a scratch patch! On Wednesdays, they have a market as well. Give it a go.
Leilah — Google review
Since my last visit a year ago, there really seems to have been a renewed investment in upgrading, tidying up, and modernizing this venue. The new painted buildings, newly sown lawns and new paved areas, nice kiddies play area, new Potter behind and above nursery and gardens in good health all lead to a less run down hippy hang out experience that other than the restaurant had us and our friends avoiding it in the past. The selection of stores and offerings are now really first class.
Richard M — Google review
Awesome place! My dog and I spent a few hours wondering around the gardens which have some beautiful and unique flowers. We enjoyed some amazing stores which are more for tourists and perhaps the more effluent locals, but unique crafts and gift options. The restaurant serves fresh squeezed juice and freshly baked breads. There is even tahini and Halva spread available. Excellent place to enjoy some time with family, kids, pets or as a solo experience.
Donovan G — Google review
Nice little stop over for cofee and lunch should you choose. Did not eat but the menu seemed nice. Lots of other little shops to visit. There is dogs allowed if you have a dog that you want to bring. The toilets is clean but small. Nice stop
Werner G — Google review
What a gem! Several independent designer shops and stalls all on one location. So much to see. Soap, art, pottery, weavery, designer goods as well as a restaurant that also offers genuine vegan options. Worth while to stop over and just walk through the shops. Also has a large outdoor play area for kiddies and lots of parking.

Central Beach is a popular spot among locals and families in Plettenberg Bay. It's known for its good restaurants and bars, making it a great place to grab lunch. The beach is part of a collection of sandy white beaches in the area, including Lookout Beach, Keurboomstrand, and Robberg Beach. Central Beach is particularly busy during the summer season when it attracts holidaymakers.
A most beautiful beach even on a chilly winters day - clean - ample parking - nice facilities - lovely cafes and restaurants- lifesaving and NSRI at hand - beautiful views across the bay and a lovely community of locals ! Highly recommended no matter the weather 🌦️⛈️
Licia S — Google review
Nice venue. Very popular during holiday seasons. Plett is always a great place to spend time. Been visiting for 40+ years and it never disappoints.
Derek R — Google review
Plett Beach is pure bliss! 🌊 It was so relaxing to just sit back and soak in the atmosphere. Even though it wasn’t peak season, the beach still had a wonderful energy with a fair number of people enjoying the sun and sea. What stood out was how safe and well-managed it felt—lifeguards were on duty, which gave us peace of mind. We were lucky enough to watch seals frolicking in the waves, and the seagulls made for the perfect photo moments (we even fed them and got the most beautiful shots 📸). This beach has everything—natural beauty, a lively yet laid-back vibe, and those little unexpected moments that make it unforgettable. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and can’t wait to come back.
Manisha R — Google review
I loved how clean it is. There are garbage bins everywhere. The place feels safe. It is also good for swimming. The paintings from the vendors are spectacular.
Puleng T — Google review
Plettenberg Bay, fondly called Plett, is South Africas seaside sweetheart with beaches so golden they make your SPF cry. First spotted by Portuguese explorers in 1487 and now overrun by sunburnt Europeans pretending to be surfers, it is the Garden Route’s glossy postcard child. Here you can swim with dolphins if they’re in the mood, watch whales breach while you chew overpriced calamari, or just stare at the Indian Ocean and wonder how long before global warming makes this your front yard. The bay is ringed by Robberg Nature Reserve, a scenic hike that tricks you into thinking you’re athletic while Cape fur seals laugh at your cardio. In short, Plettenberg Bay is where the jet set meets the sea gulls, bucket lists get a tick, and sand finds its way into body parts science still hasn’t named.
The G — Google review
Central Beach is a wide open clean beach in Plettenberg Bay. It’s across from Beacon Island and there’s a river that feeds into it, but it looks like an ideal surfer and sunbathing spot (in summer). There are lifeguards on duty and there’s also a full service NSRI station located right on the beach for high speed response times and that makes you feel much safer. Parking is ample and free.
Duncan A — Google review
Always a great beach to visit. The bathrooms were clean, the restaurant was fair and the ice-cream shop was fantastic. There are a number of activities available from boat rides to snorkeling. The water was freezing though. 🥶
Edward C — Google review
Great beach to relax and swim . It's calm and clean not too busy . Just good vibes and a nice day out . Facilities are close by like ablutions and a few shops and restaurants . Ocean boat rides depart directly from the beach and launched via tractor , this was really cool to watch .as it operates like a mini sea airport with boats being pushed out to sea and retrieved back from sea by the green tractor .

We had SUCH a good surf class with Dolphin Adventures, great surf coaches, very patient as we had some younger kids. All in five stars and highly recommended!!!

We contacted Giovanni and was told we can arrive on the morning and do payment before we go out. We arrived on time and was told the group is now too big, there is a safety risk, and there were persons meant to go at 7h00 that is now joining the 9h00 group, they already paid, so we need to come back at 12h00 or 15h00 to try again (IF the wind does not pick up). So......we did not pay and book online, at the advice of Giovanni, and got the unexpected bad service. My two daughters, my wife and I were extremely disappointed. Why exclude us from the group when an earlier group booking changes their mind.....? I hope you handle this type of situation better in future.
Andrew E — Google review
We booked online months in advance and paid. When we arrived, no one was there. I rang and he was already out at sea with 2 other guests. He said he had no record of our booking! We were then rushed into getting ready and out in the kayaks. It was OK. We saw 1 seal and a jumping fish. He said he sees 'animals' on only 50% of his trips. So calling it a Dolphin Adventure does not seem correct. We would not do it again.
John W — Google review
Fantastic trip out, saw various wildlife and Tristan our guide did a great job sharing his extensive knowledge of the area. Highly recommended.
Greg G — Google review
Great staff from which to rent ocean equipment. The prices are also very reasonable and their equipment is high quality and in good condition. They even gave us tips on using the surf boards and knee boards.
Robert N — Google review
Cheapest rentals of surfboards and wetsuit. Giovanni the owner is very helpful and willing to go the extra mile to assist. Super chilled atmosphere and a great bar.
Paulin K — Google review
Just spent a week on the garden route and I think this was the best activity we did. Geo (our guide) was a fountain of knowledge and comedy. We aren't proficient paddlers but we felt very safe out on the ocean with him. He was honest and transparent about the experience and our chances of seeing dolphins. He went above and beyond to give us the best experience possible. We did not only see dolphins but paddled with them along the coast for about a km. We were amongst them as they cruised and we felt like part of the pod as they jumped out the water meters from our boat. Was extraordinary and fun and we learnt a lot. Will definitely go out with Geo again if I ever get the chance!

We had an amazing time. Guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. Will definitely recommend them!

Peninsula
Robberg Peninsula is a rugged and narrow stretch of land that houses a nature reserve featuring a popular hiking trail. The peninsula also boasts a massive seal colony, offering visitors the chance to observe these playful animals up close through boat rides, snorkeling, or scuba diving. Additionally, the area features 15 kilometers of golden beaches from Keurboomstrand to Robberg Peninsula, interrupted only by a river mouth and Beacon Island.
Second time hiking this magical place... improvements have been made on the steeper bits with rails and ropes to assist the wobbly..
Laura B — Google review
All in one, best small nature reserve in SA. You get a bit of everything and if you lucky you might see great white sharks from above.
Chantel N — Google review
The 'trail' is ok if you only do the first bit, No1. DO NOT take any of the other two, unless you are very fit, a moderate experienced mountaineer, don't suffer from vertigo or as barking mad as the ones who designed and opened that trail. Although I am neither, except maybe a bit mad, I survived, whereby 'survived' is the operational word. Narrow paths, if at all, climbing over and between rocks. with the rock face on one, and a hundred metres down to the ocean on the other. absolutely ridiculous to even suggest it as a 'trail', which suggests no particular skills other than two good legs. Well, if you're game go and tell me I'm wrong.
George D — Google review
Absolutely loved Robberg Peninsula, it only cost 60 Rand which compared to Storms Bay at 400 Rand is a bargain and SO much better. You see geology in action and see the puddle stone. The walk can be difficult at times but so worth it, the sand dune and views are glorious – definitely worth the detour!
Aran G — Google review
One of the best hiking spots I've been to, the scenery is picturess and the hiking trails are easy, kids will enjoy this one 👌
Waseela J — Google review
Beautiful conservation area. The area is clean and have a selection of hiking routes. The longest one is 'The Point' a round trip hike that takes about 4 hours to complete. Fantastic views accross the bay can be seen on all routes and Cape fur seals can be seen far below in the water. Well worth a visit.

The Robberg Beach Lodge - Lion Roars Hotels & Lodges is a modern beachside resort in Plettenberg Bay, offering comfortable rooms and suites. The lodge provides stunning ocean views from its rooftop deck and features inviting pools for relaxation. Situated in a bohemian seaside town overlooking the bay and mountains, the lodge is close to hipster coffee shops, seafood restaurants, boutiques, and various attractions such as nature reserves, golf courses, animal sanctuaries, and beautiful beaches.
We had three nights in a Double luxury room, just perfect for everything, a short drive into Plettenberg for some shopping or a meal out. The Beach was straight out of the front door across the road. The food and wine was amazing, I had the Steak one night which was perfectly cooked to my liking. The Breakfast had plenty of choice and excellent quality. WiFi worked where ever you were in the hotel. Definitely recommend The Beach lodge as a place to stay if you’re traveling the garden route.
Paul B — Google review
The view is beautiful, which is the only good thing about this hotel, so I’m giving it two stars. The hotel itself is old and worn down, nothing like the pictures. It’s overpriced, noisy, and humid. The staff seemed uninterested and unfriendly. It’s definitely not worth the price. We didn’t feel comfortable at all and were relieved when we could finally leave.
Kavi S — Google review
Stayed for 3 nights on our honeymoon trip and absolutely loved it. The staff were so lovely, friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel very welcomed. The room was beautiful, such breathtaking views of the sea and had everything we needed. The breakfasts were delicious, cold and hot food included, and the one dinner we had in the restaurant was great. No complaints and would highly recommend.
Bryony T — Google review
A truly wonderful hotel with beautifully designed and comfortable rooms that make you feel at home right away. The location is perfect – peaceful, yet close to everything you might want to explore. The cuisine is exceptional, with a great selection of delicious and well-prepared dishes. What really makes the difference, though, is the staff: everyone is incredibly friendly, helpful, and always ready to go the extra mile to ensure a pleasant stay. We felt truly welcomed and well taken care of throughout our visit. Highly recommended!

Very basic rooms with the sea view on the ground floor the windows were very flimsy and felt insecure. The staff, other than one-off the waiters, were not very friendly or attentive and there wasn't anything around the hotel to walk to.

Keurbooms Lagoon boasts a beautiful beach that varies in size depending on the tides and other factors such as rainfall and water flow from the mountains. The water color ranges from a deep senna shade caused by tannins to crystal clear, especially during summer when the river bottom is shallow and white. This creates an illusion of being on a pristine desert island.
Best camping site we have been to yet. Ablutions were squeaky clean. The staff were so so friendly and helpful. The views were incredible and we loved kayaking there. We kayaked up the lagoon with seals! Such an awesome experience.

What a beautiful place to camp / Glamp, the grounds are well maintained, the ablution blocks are clean all the time, the view is stunning and what lovely staff, they are friendly, helpful and keep the place meat and clean 24/7. This is one of my favorite camping grounds on the garden route, not too expensive either. Thank you Keurbooms lagoon, we will definitely be back 🤩

This place is an absolute dream. The most incredible sunrise views, so make sure you wake up for them! The lagoon is so peaceful to just stare at all day and the many different bird calls are delightful to wake up to. The bathrooms were always clean, the showers were hot and wonderful and the staff are super friendly. For all these reasons, I would highly recommend this amazing campsite!

This is a really great campsite! The bathrooms in particular, are very neat, modern and serviced daily. There are over 200 level, grassy sites to choose from and the lagoon at sunrise is spectacular! There are lots to see and do in the area and will definitely recommend spending some time here....

Beautiful open lagoon, crystal clear blue water. Temperature of the water was cold. But refreshing! Toilets clean, 5 star on the service of trash cans being emptied everyday.

I have stayed here a few times now, and in my books probably one of the best camp sites in South Africa. Having the lagoon right in front of you like that is hard to beat!. Great for families who boat and like to fish, .. but even if you dont its just a stunning place. Best ablutions ever!!

We camped after the Christmas season and got a waterfront plot on the lagoon. It was beautiful to wake up to the sunrise. We snorkelled along the edge of the lagoon it was like an aquarium. You can cycle to the shops on a cycle path. The ablutions are clean and the staff are friendly. We felt very safe.

We had the appartment here. It was nice everything you need even a washing machine and dryer. The terrace was pretty big also the rooms are. 2 nice bathrooms. This was the perfect apparment to stay. View on the sea (located on the beach). All restaurants nearby. You can't have a better location. The breakfast did take very long to bake an egg, but it was good.
K'Yanni E — Google review
I happened upon this place, almost "by mistake". On a "going nowhere slowly" road trip, I arrived in Plett early evening and drove around looking for somewhere to stay for a night or two. Called the number on their board outside the hotel and voila! The best find EVER! It's across the road from the best swimming beach in Plett and surrounded by great restaurants; it's also a 3 minute drive to another plethora of restaurants on the main road. The staff are unbelievably kind, efficient, friendly and attentive! The rooms are spacious, bright and just so practical. Amazing, large, high-pressure shower. They have a generator for when loadshedding kicks in. The hotel has the feel of a boutique establishment without being pretentious, with fewer than 15 rooms. Their rates are unbeatable value for money and include a made-to-order hot breakfast as well as a buffet continental offering. And they have a wonderful coffee machine in the lobby, that is complimentary around the clock. Safe and plentiful parking. I highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to return.
Marcia M — Google review
This is a really well located accommodation facility. The staff are super friendly, the rooms are very modern, comfortable and spotless. Excellent breakfast served every morning too. I would highly recommend staying here if in Plett. Definitely one of the best places we stayed in during our three week trip to South Africa.

The place is beautiful and perfectly located. Extremely friendly staff(thanks Wendy!) The place has a modern finish and a homey atmosphere. Safe of street parking. Communal kitchen and honesty bar with alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. 100m to the beach with clear waters. Perfect wifi

We stayed in room no. 4 and it was really relaxing. Quiet, comfy bed with ample space, shower was amazing with high pressure and an aircon for the hot nights. Le Fournil is a French bakery and cafe that is a favourite for brunch and lunch in the summer. They serve up fresh, artisanal breads and pastries, as well as breakfasts and sandwiches, all made from scratch. favourites include their Truth Coffee, salted caramel cheesecake and chocolate croissants. The bakery has a lovely courtyard off Main Street that is perfect for hanging out in the shade on a hot day.
Fantastic ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️time here at Le Fournil de Plett bakery and café in Plattenberg Bay. The service was incredible, the food was exceptional and the drinks are cold and fast. The decor inside is inviting and homely and has that special French flair. Our waitress, Belle, was a star and really took care of us. She was efficient and friendly. I can highly recommend this is your favourite breakfast spot in Plett and it’s got stunning views out on the balcony. Inside by the fireplace on a cold day is the place where you want to be. the menu is comprehensive and they have a lot of pastries, baked goods and delicious breakfasts to choose from, along with a lot of options for lunch.

Good restaurant, we liked it but we were shocked by the prices. We ordered an omelet with tomatoes, cheese and mushrooms, but they charged us 30 for tomatoes, 20 for mushrooms, 30 for cheese and 25 for eggs. It's not reasonable. Everything has a different price and they're all on one plate. I don't know if these are their prices or if they deceived us.

Wow. Time and time again the world proves to me that there is no better almond croissant than that of Le Fournil. I’m not sure how they do it, but however they do I hope they never stop. Outside area under the willow tree is superb and coffee is delicious!!
Emma P — Google review
Le Fournil Bakery is located in the boutique Lookout Centre and the restaurant is on the top floor (okay there are only two floors, but it still gives a great view over the town). Service was sharp and efficient. Thanks so much to the server staff (whose name currently escapes me) but they made the experience special. The food was well-prepared and tasty. What more do you need? There is additional seating in the courtyard as well as the balcony and you can see that some regulars have their favourite spots. Pricing is very attractive and it would be a good idea to see this concept expended to other places – especially small towns. The wheelchair seems a bit steep.
Duncan A — Google review
The food was nice but the service was absolutely SHOCKING. We waited 40 minutes just to get our water and when we asked our waiter about it we were met with such aggression. The food order was then incorrect, and the “fresh” apple juice that was bought to our table had clearly been sitting out for a very long time because the juice was warm and completely brown. The manager was less than helpful and was stalking around the restaurant barking orders at all the staff in front of everyone. Awful awful experience; such a pity because the restaurant used to be so amazing.

Beautiful decor inside, very nice atmosphere. Food was delicious and well presented, surprised me as I was not sure what to expect, as was not so sure off this place. Coffee was nice and strong and Bell and Matthew the waiters were very friendly and extremely helpful! They bread 🍞 is lovery we took some home too and for my father in-law. Overall I would definitely come back and recommend it!

Sanctuary Beach in Plettenberg Bay is a serene and tranquil sandy haven, surrounded by shrub-covered dunes. This idyllic beach offers a peaceful escape from the bustling tourist areas, making it perfect for long relaxing days. It is also an excellent spot for solitary walks to clear the mind and rejuvenate. The name truly reflects its essence, providing a safe and serene environment to unwind and find inner peace.
Sanctuary Beach in Plettenberg Bay is truly one of the most peaceful and beautiful places I’ve ever visited. From the moment I stepped onto the soft, golden sand, I felt instantly relaxed. The beach is wide and open, giving you plenty of space to enjoy without feeling crowded. I loved the natural surroundings – the dunes, the sea breeze, and the sound of the waves all come together to create a calming atmosphere. What stood out to me the most was how clean and well-kept the beach was. It felt safe, serene, and perfect for long, quiet walks. I especially appreciated that it’s dog-friendly, so if you’re traveling with a pet, it’s ideal. The water was clear and inviting, and although I didn’t swim much, just walking along the shore with the waves at my feet was amazing. There’s something special about the slower pace at Sanctuary Beach. It’s not overly commercial or packed with tourists, which makes it feel more personal and peaceful. It’s the kind of place where you can just sit, breathe, and take in the beauty around you. I left feeling refreshed and already wanting to return. Sanctuary Beach is a hidden gem, and I absolutely loved my time there.

Best dog friendly beach in the area. 🐶 Stunning evenings can be spent while savouring the best beach experience. Relatively clean ablutions and fresh water showers to rinse off after a swim.

Nice beach. I'd just have to say, make sure to get you bearings where you come down from the car parking. Once you're on the beach it's difficult to tell one set of steps from another and where they lead to.

A beach off season has an exceptional appeal ! A warm sunny mid winter July day and we walked for miles - we loved the dog stick sign and that the locals were warm and kind - it surprised us to see just how many beach walkers there were at this time - perhaps Plett is more of an all year round destination after all ! Do go any season of the year - you won’t regret it 🇿🇦

This South African smokehouse cuisine spot offers a unique culinary journey from breakfast to dinner. The restaurant features a charming terrace overlooking the Klein Piesang river bank, providing a tranquil setting for enjoying freshly baked pastries and cakes from their bakery.
We had a lovely time at Barringtons We enjoyed the beer tasting excellent quality craft beer available We also had the gin on tap - no complaints The grounds are lovely and serene and adds to the relaxed atmosphere of the establishment We enjoyed our lunch. We ordered the lamb shank which seemed small but sufficient and tasty. The rump steak was flavorful and excellently prepared to request. The calamari was great and a good portion. Overall 5/5 on food, service, quality food and value for money. We would return

We stumbled upon the brewery by chance today. We were very impressed by the property. We ordered something to eat there. It was delicious. The burger was very tasty, the meat was very tender. The beer was really delicious. As a German, I can highly recommend the Hefeweizen. The waiter, Avu, was very friendly and gave us good advice. The restrooms were very clean. There was plenty of soap and paper towels.

We spent three nights in Plettenberg Bay as tourists and ended up eating at Barringtons twice — simply because it was that good! On our first evening, we had the beef and chicken burgers, both absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. We were so impressed that we came back two nights later for the Korma beef curry and the salmon, which were both full of flavor and beautifully presented. For dessert, we tried the Crème Brûlée and Tiramisu — both were outstanding and the perfect finish to an amazing meal. The ambience at Barringtons is warm, stylish, and inviting, and the service was excellent on both nights — attentive, friendly, and professional. We highly recommend Barringtons to anyone visiting Plettenberg Bay. A true gem with wonderful food, great atmosphere, and top-notch service!

We had such a wonderful lunch at Barringtons. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary & the waitress brought us two glasses of delicious champagne with berries in. She also brought our kids a marsh mellow each & were so kind to them. Our meal was delicious and the veggie gardens were also so well kept and was nice to walk through. Next time we visit Plett, we will definitely be back again.

We (my wife and I) have thoroughly enjoyed breakfasts, lunches and bar drinks here at Barrington’s Restaurant, Bar and Terraces. When they say you can enjoy long lazy breakfasts and lunches out on one of the many sunny terraces, this is absolutely spot on (although yesterday it rained so we had breakfast inside and still enjoyed a lazy breakfast and the vibe!). The food, service and the experience is not to be missed. With so many tables there’s no hurry, indeed it was very busy but we were not rushed at all. We came here last year for the first time. It’s very impressive. Walking through the kitchen gardens is lovely, so well set out and manicured. The restaurant and terraces are very clean and well thought out. The food is excellent . The bar and the beer they brew is also fabulous. I think this is an experience not to be missed, after a few visits I can confidently say we have not been disappointed, indeed we really look forward to coming here. I hope you enjoy it too!

With its golden sands, it's perfect for various activities like swimming, ball games, or simply relaxing. Lifeguards are present for safety, and visitors can also spot whales in the distance.
This beach is a gem! The golden sand is soft and inviting, and the water is shallow and perfect for wading. Plus, the waves are consistent and fun for body surfing. There are shower facilities and team of trained lifeguards on the lookout. Not sure about the Shark kit station, but there were few jellyfish in the water. Might have difficulty finding a spot to park.

Truly special experience! Our guide and captain were extremely knowledgeable, eager to share their passion for these playful creatures, and created a fun and carefree atmosphere (beware of the splash and the ABS😂). The seals really are puppies in the sea. We went in May when the newest batch of younglings were beginning to swim and they were all over us. Sadly only spent 2 weeks in South Africa, and this experience was the highlight. A must do 😊

An amazing and unforgettable experience that I had with ocean blue adventures. Got to see the dolphins, whale and seals with them for the first time in my life. We went on the medium-length guided hike and can highly recommend it. We learned a lot about the local animals and plants. The guide clearly explained how the mountain was formed. If an animal wasn’t visible, it was shown to us in a book so we could still learn what it looks like. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. We would gladly do it again – it was an amazing experience, and we even saw seals!
Corinna P — Google review
We went on the whale & dolphin tour, and agreed after that we felt this excursion was over priced. We dressed, got the safety briefing and headed to the beach to board the boat. Entering and exiting the water from shore was very neat. During the excursion we immediately saw dolphins swimming around us and followed them for some time. The weather however turned and started to rain, we proceeded to head out to the open water in search of whales (finally - what we had hoped for on our whale watching tour). Unfortunately, the wind picked up, the waves were bigger and the rain was coming down (we were having a blast). We spotted 1 whale waited in the area for it to come back it didn’t so we quickly headed back to the shore which we felt occurred due to the larger waves. We then went to the seal colony which was very neat, however, we felt the whale watching portion of the tour was rushed, and assume this was due to weather. Overall, we felt this was a lack lusted excursion and should have been much cheaper than what it was. We felt $154.00 CAD for 2 people was far too much, and we could have justified spending $40.00 CAD each. Overall, would do it again for half of the price.
Lisa S — Google review
The worst expierence in our whole 3 week South Africa trip. Enough big money for really nothing. 3 dolphins and seals. 40 min waiting for boat in sea. And than 45 min boat trip. Nothing interesting. No whhales. After 3 days we went to Hermanaus and just walking by main cliffs, there was 3 different whales in 1 hour, a lot of photos and emotions for free.. just chilling and watching. So in Plettenburg this option was far from here.. just go to Hermanaus if you really want to see whales.
Evija R — Google review
This was the most amazing experience! As a family we will never forget it. Our tour guide went above and beyond to make sure we see as much as possible. We ended up spotting 5 whales, Hammer head sharks and playful seals. Thank you!

Horrible owner made our whole experience terrible. Very hostile and spoke about us behind our backs calling us Riff raff and going on about how we’re not up to his standards, on arrival he suggested to his staff that they should not sell to us if we wanted more balls. The staff was pleasant though. Would NOT recommend, rather head over to Goose Valley. This is one small business you need to stay away from!

Birds of Eden is a free-flight sanctuary that spans over 5 acres and boasts more than 200 bird species. The area is covered by a massive mesh dome, allowing visitors to enjoy self-guided walks while being surrounded by birds in their natural habitat. The wooden walkway takes guests from the root level of tall trees all the way up to the treetops and ceiling of the dome, providing an amazing experience.
Expect a Jurassic Park experience, but without the dinosaurs. It’s quite impressive with the numerous bird species that have the freedom to fly within such a large enclosure—one of the biggest in the world. I recommend purchasing the species identification guide for an additional R20. The walkways are sturdy and safe, with benches available for resting if needed. Unfortunately, the pathways are not wheelchair-friendly unless you're prepared for a rugged journey. Take your time, and don’t rush; let others pass who may be in a hurry. To make the most of your visit, allow yourself between one and two hours for a self-guided tour. The amphitheater was closed during our visit, probably due to maintenance upgrades. There is a restaurant near the exit, so you’ll need to complete the route to be able to enjoy it. If you’re a serious birdwatcher, I recommend avoiding visits during peak holiday seasons and weekends, as it can get quite crowded—but the birds won’t mind! Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. I suggest that management consider offering overnight accommodations in a jungle-style setting; it would be unforgettable to wake up with all those birds greeting the dawn. Don’t forget to spot the flying fox—you might just get lucky!

Birds of Eden is a breathtaking free-flight aviary, home to a stunning variety of birdlife thriving in a beautifully designed, well-maintained environment. The conservation work here is truly inspiring, and the passionate, professional staff enhance the experience. Tickets were easy to purchase on arrival, and we loved exploring at our own pace—no guides required. The 1km scenic boardwalk, with a mix of stairs and accessible paths, winds through lush habitats, peaceful sitting areas, and diverse bird species. The serene lake at the end, teeming with waterbirds, was a delightful surprise. Every turn revealed new bird species flying freely, making for an unforgettable experience. We even spotted a few duikers! The on-site café and shop were great stops for refreshments, with generous meal portions. Well worth the admission price, this sanctuary is a must-visit for bird lovers and nature enthusiasts. Take your time, soak in the beauty, and enjoy an unforgettable wildlife experience. Highly recommended

Loved Birds of Eden! We were taken around by 20 year veteran guide Eric. The aviary is enormous and the birds truly live in paradise. They can freely fly, have plenty of space and water, seed and fruit buffets setup for them in many places. Our tour lasted just over an hour. The landscaping is stunning, so much greenery, a waterfall, suspension bridge. We saw many species of bird including natives to South Africa - my favourite being the Turaco. My all time favourites the Macaw were also there in blue and yellow and scarlet varieties were also here. Flamingoes, scarlet ibis, geese, egrets, lovebirds - all here. You can buy a bird identification book at the gift shop for only R20. The birds you see on your visit will vary because the aviary is so huge. Reminded me a lot of KL Bird Park in Malaysia - all Birds of Eden is a lot more expensive. I wish we could have had lunch at the cafe overlooking the lake but our visit was very early in the morning. Bonus - resident cat that lives in the female bathrooms.

The overall experience was great.. Happy to have supported this institute. My only dissapoint was that they were not stocked with their booklets that describe the bird species they had.

This is our second visit to Birds of Eden. Of all the sanctuaries near Plett, this one is very special to me. Something about the large dome enclosure, the variety of birds and the lush greenery made for a calming nature experience. We will be back again.

Birds of Eden was an unforgettable highlight of our trip! The aviary is enormous, with well-maintained and comfortable walkways that wind beautifully through the trees. Along the way, we were treated to some stunning views and an incredible variety of fascinating birds. This isn't a place to rush through—it's best enjoyed at a leisurely pace, allowing time to wander slowly, observe, and appreciate the birds in their naturalistic habitat. Highly recommended!
Melissa G — Google review
Such a beautiful place! I saw bird species I’ve never seen before in my life—flamingos were definitely my favorite :) 🦩🌸 It’s right next to Monkeyland, which was also super fun. When getting tickets, you can actually buy a combo for Birds of Eden, Monkeyland, and Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary—worth keeping in mind, it’s a better deal. But honestly, we didn’t really enjoy Jukani that much… not much to see there.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Elephant Sanctuary in Plettenberg Bay. It was an unforgettable experience for me and my family, walking hand in hand with the elephants and getting so close to these gentle giants. The staff were very friendly and explained everything in a simple and interesting way, which made the visit even more enjoyable. Feeding and interacting with the elephants was truly special, and my kids absolutely loved it. A memorable family experience that we highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

One of a kind experience. A must visit place. Staff is very nice, professional and knowledgeable about their animals. Lloyd, our guide, was an amazing person. He knew his trade. Other caretakers were equally amazing and knowledgeable.

A fantastic park for up-close encounters with elephants. The guides are friendly and incredibly knowledgeable — by the end of your visit, you’ll know each elephant by name: Thandi, Nandi, Thato, and Keisha. To make your visit even more special and connect with the elephants, be sure to buy a basket of vegetables at the counter — they’ll love being fed by you!

Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary is a sanctuary for large cats such as leopards, jaguars and Bengal tigers. The sanctuary operates on a no-touch, no-breed policy. Visitors are advised to bring water with them as it can get hot. Some of the animals were hiding in their shelters or in the shade during the visit but became active during feeding time at 3pm. The tour lasted about an hour and visitors can purchase gifts and enjoy coffee, food and snacks at the restaurant.
We had a wonderful visit to Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary truly an amazing location with a wide variety of animals. We were lucky enough to see almost all of them, except for the elusive black leopard. A big thank you to Bazel, our animal tour guide, for making the experience so informative and memorable! #Jukani #South_Africa

We had Thando guide us through the sanctuary, giving us insight into each animal we saw. A fun 1 hour walk while you see a variety of different animals, some rare and some more common to SA. Would definitely recommend it for the whole family

Our tour guide Elvis is so knowledgeable and professional! He made the experience so good! Money well spent and animals are being looked after well, good clean enclosures. Well done for the work you do.
Marco R — Google review
Thank you Jukani for a wonderful visit! My girl had a South African book with her and looked up each animal as we saw it and read all the interesting facts about that animal. My boy could answer our guides questions about the differences in all the cats. The Hyena was hectic for me, much bigger than I thought and so menacing. We loved every second of this outing! Will definitely visit again when the kids are a few years older.

Arne R — Google review
I'm not gonna lie, you have to be lucky. Sometimes, the animals will show, sometimes not. Overall, there are enough animals to be sure to see at least half of them As for us, we were pretty lucky. One tiger got up and walked back and forth near the fence for a solid 5 minutes, the lions were sleeping but not far. Only the cheetahs were pretty shy and we could only observe them from a distance. Remember though that this is a refuge for abused animals, THIS IS NOT A ZOO. The owners have no obligation to bait the animals so that you can see them. The guide will do his best to show them to you but without disturbing the animals' daily routine
Nicolas G — Google review
The enclosure for the animals seem big enough and diverse environment. All are “rescued” from closed zoos or breeding farms. But still it is rather commercial: guiding many many people through the park, shouting and rattling so that every cat is coming to the visitors. Cats also seem a bit chubby.

Had a bit of fun seeing some wolves and huskies. Pity we could not do the tour where they take you into the cages due to kids under 12 not allowed but still a good experience if you are an animal lovers like us because they have other animals around that can pet and feed. We do not always like to see them in captivity but we understand the importance of these sanctuaries which take in rescues who will probably not fair well should they be released back into the wild. If your a family with kids under 12 then atleast you can buy feed before entering so that the young ones can interact with the rabbits, monkeys, sheep, emu, geese, goats, etc. The rabbit enclosure allows u to touch and feed them which is probably a favourite for most kids. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Facilities and toilets are well maintained and the experience was quite good overall without any issues.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A truly special and educational experience! Visiting the Garden Route Wolf Sanctuary was one of the highlights of our trip. The sanctuary is beautifully maintained, and the staff are clearly passionate about the animals and their wellbeing. It’s not just wolves—they have huskies, jackals, wild dogs, and even some farm animals, all in spacious and clean enclosures. The guided tour was both informative and engaging. We learned a lot about the wolves’ behaviour, their rescue stories, and the importance of conservation. You can really feel how much love and care goes into every part of this sanctuary. What stood out most was the peaceful atmosphere—perfect for animal lovers and families alike. The walkways are easy to follow, and there’s even a lovely little café and gift shop on site. Also, the opportunity to see wolves up close in a safe and ethical environment is something you don’t come across often. Highly recommended for anyone travelling along the Garden Route—it’s an unforgettable experience and a great way to support animal rescue efforts!

Please note, interaction is not guaranteed. These are not pets so don’t be discouraged if they don’t want to interact. I enjoyed the experience for what it is, these animals are stunning and the money you spend is for a good cause. I would recommend going.

Absolutely stunning facility and the passione and information from the tour guide was just amazing. Loved the experience of meeting all the wolf-dogs and wolves. The 3 adorable huskies oldies were just the cherry on the top of the experience. Very beautiful and misunderstood animals. The farm animals were just the coolest. Thank for a lovely tour and adventure. 5 stars all the way.
Meg M — Google review
I visited the Garden Route Wolf Sanctuary with high hopes, especially after paying the R200 entrance fee per person. Unfortunately, I was left disappointed and would not recommend this experience. From the moment we entered, nearly all the wolves were sleeping or completely inactive. I understand that animals have their own rhythms, but as a visitor, it’s quite frustrating to find almost every animal asleep, especially when there is no guidance or signage to manage expectations. What made the experience worse was the attitude of one of the staff members. A female staff member approached us in a very harsh and disrespectful manner early during our visit. I had snapped my fingers trying to get the attention of the wolves—something I didn’t know was not allowed. Instead of politely explaining, she abruptly told me, “Respect! Respect!” in a raised, confrontational tone. I tried to explain that I didn’t know it was against the rules, but she cut me off and falsely accused me of kicking the fence and running around—which I absolutely did not do. I was shocked and frustrated by how she exaggerated what happened. From that point on, she continued to watch us, making us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Ironically, the small petting farm section turned out to be far more enjoyable than the main wolf area. The farm animals were active, friendly, and fun to interact with—unlike the sleeping wolves and the cold human interaction. In summary: • Ticket price: R200 per person • Animals: Mostly inactive wolves with minimal interaction • Staff: One rude and unprofessional staff member created a very negative atmosphere • Best part: The farm animal section — much more enjoyable than expected Unless staff attitudes and visitor communication improve, I wouldn’t recommend this place. You might regret the visit, just as I did.

We recently visited the Garden Route Wolf Sanctuary in Knysna, and it exceeded our expectations in every way! The sanctuary is immaculately clean and well-maintained, reflecting the exceptional care given to its incredible animals. The wolves, in particular, are a sight to behold - healthy, happy, and thriving. After observing these magnificent creatures, you can interact with adorable bunnies and other animals, making for a delightful experience. The sanctuary also features a charming shop where you can indulge in a refreshing ice cream while taking in the surroundings. We highly recommend adding the Garden Route Wolf Sanctuary to your itinerary when visiting the area. It's an unforgettable experience that supports a wonderful cause!

Was very nice 👌 I love wolves and just wanted to support a good cause for the upkeep of their wellbeing. The cages were clean and had adequate space. All cages had a water spot for them to swim in as they feel the summer with their coats. Well done on your great passion. I enjoyed it. Support them for the good of the wolves and dogs

Lovely oasis situated between Knysna and Plettenberg bay. Would recommend as a 1/2 day visit as its great fun for children and adults alike. It has some great water slides which create a great adrenaline rush as you take on the slides. Love it. Has snack selling kiosks as well as offer umbrellas for hire. Nice cold pool and toilet facilities too. Phone beforehand as load shedding does impact functioning of slides. Once loadshedding done, sliding action continues. It could be useful to plan currently around loadshedding times.
Shiraj C — Google review
Great experience with my family! Umbrella and locker rentals are available as well as food and ice cream for sale. Usually isn't very busy but on the day we went it was quite busy but we still had a good time. First aid staff were very friendly and easily accessible.
PepperM1nt — Google review
Adventure land is definitely an adventure! My family and I absolutely loved it! I love how kids and adults can all enjoy this waterpark. My parents also went on the slides and loved it! I would definitely recommend going here. I would also recommend taking the following with: • A towel (someone there forgot their towels, and there isn’t somewhere to buy one) • Picnic food (there is options to buy there, but we loved having a picnic) • An umbrella (lovely with the picnic. There is also an option to rent an umbrella) • Sunscreen! Definitely a must, since you spend almost all day in the sun. Another thing to note, is that they told us that the slides do not operate during loadshedding. I would also recommend going at 10 in the morning (when they open), so you can enjoy the whole day in the park and get value for your money! The only bad thing I can say, is that some of the people who work at the slides, don’t really care about the rules that much, and do not enforce the rules. The one girl that worked there kept swearing at her friends who were at the park, which I thought was very unprofessional and there were kids around. But all in all a lovely experience, and great value for money!
Marizanne W — Google review
We had the time of our lives here. So much open space, so much fun, so many slides to accomodate the more calmer souls and also the adrenalin junkies. Such a safe environment and an absolute bliss. A braai and some watermelon was the cherry on the top.
