The Slovak Museum of Nature Protection and Speleology in Liptovsky Mikulas is a complex museum with a vast and well-organized collection. It showcases various aspects of the Slovak environment, including the lives of woodcutters, shepherds, and Slovak speleologists and mountain rescuers. The museum building itself is beautiful, and the extensive collection is curated with great care. Visitors can explore exhibits on caves, wildlife/cosmos, mountains, and trees across three levels.
I liked this place. Recommend to visit with kids. Interactive museum with tower to see the city. Speleology is in focus, but it's really interesting

The museum is quite large. Downstairs is a section about caves. On the second floor there is a natural history section (note, there are stuffed animals) and one related to minerals. On the second floor is a section dedicated to human activities in the mountains. You can also go out to viewpoints. There is some interactive stuff, mostly animal sounds. My kids liked the viewpoint the best

Phenomenal museum!!!! We spent there some great time with amazing view at the end of our tour. If you are in this area- you should stop by.

The museum is quite interesting and has decent amount of exhibitions, however the price can be a bit high without a discount (€8). Overall it's a pleasant experience :)

The Natural History Museum in Liptovský Mikuláš is a wonderful place to visit, whether you’re interested in nature, history, or just looking for an engaging activity for the family. The museum itself is very well put together, with a variety of interesting exhibits – many of them focused on caves and the natural environment of the region. Some of the displays are interactive, which makes the experience fun and educational, especially for children. One highlight is the chance to “climb” into a model cave, which adds a unique, hands-on element that kids really enjoy. Another great feature is the museum’s tower. You can go up and enjoy a panoramic view of the city, which is definitely worth it. It gives you a nice perspective of Liptovský Mikuláš and the surrounding area. The museum is the kind of place where you can easily spend a couple of hours exploring. Everything feels thoughtfully presented, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall, it’s a really nice museum and well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Very good museum, and we loved that everything was explained in English too. Well laid out, all members of our group enjoyed the museum very much.
Clare G — Google review
One of the best museums I visited in Slovakia. The lower part is dedicated to speleology, middle part to mineralogy and upper part to nature protection. Great for the kids and families. The museum was reconstructed cca 10 years ago so everything looks new. We really recommend visiting it. The price for adults was 8 €/each and for kids 2€/each.

Amazing place! One of the biggest surprises we experienced in Slovakia. Went there with a bit mixed feeling, but left realy amazed. Great exhibition, interactive and interesting for everyone, regardless the age. Loved the bear's cave and other stuff:)

Nestled in the heart of Liptovsky Mikulas, the Koloman Sokol Gallery stands as one of Slovakia's oldest and most cherished art venues. Established in 2002 to commemorate the centenary of renowned Slovak artist Koloman Sokol, this gallery showcases an impressive collection exceeding 5,000 works. It is particularly noted for housing the largest compilation of Sokol’s masterpieces, a figure who garnered admiration from iconic artists like Pablo Picasso.

(Translated by Google) Interesting exhibition 😉 It is worth visiting this gallery. Thanks to the weather, I had the exhibition of the artist from Orava with effects, as she creates such darker works, and it thundered outside during the presentation 🤭 The exhibition of works by Hermann Kern and his old men was a bit more modest, but I really liked his works. 😉 I was very excited by the life story of Koloman Sokol. His life stories and journeys were reflected in his work. I definitely recommend visiting. 🙂👍

(Translated by Google) Liptovsky Mikulas is a small but surprisingly atmospheric town in Slovakia that hides real cultural treasures. One of these is Galéria Kolomana Sokola, dedicated to the life and work of this outstanding artist. Koloman Sokol (1902–2003) is one of the most significant Slovak artists of the 20th century. His work left a deep mark on the history of art. After studying at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts, he taught in Mexico and then lived and worked in the United States, but always remained true to his roots and his native Slovakia. His work was appreciated all over the world, including such masters as Pablo Picasso. The gallery's exhibition is based on 48 of the artist's best works dedicated to his native country. These paintings and graphics not only reflect his unique style, but also show important social issues of the time. They show hunger, poverty, desperate people, as well as the frequent motifs of horses, riders and dogs, symbolizing strength, freedom and devotion. The gallery is located in a historical building on the main square of the city, at the address: Námestie Osloboditeľov 28. The building, built in the 15th century, is the oldest secular building in the city. Previously, it was the residence of the feudal nobleman Pongratz and, together with the Church of St. Nicholas, formed a small fortress surrounded by the waters of the Váh River. The architecture of the building combines elements of Gothic and Renaissance, which fits perfectly into the atmosphere of the old city. There is silence and comfort inside the gallery, and the exhibition is organized in such a way that each work receives due attention. During our visit, there were no other visitors to the museum, and we received personal attention from an employee, a lady who enthusiastically spoke not only about Sokol’s work, but also about his life. If you find yourself in Liptovsky Mikulas, don't miss this gallery. It is open to visitors from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00. The cost of visiting the exhibition is symbolic and amounts to only three euros. For such a small amount you will get a unique experience that will stay with you for a long time.

Paradox - fun centum in Liptovsky Mikulas is a lively entertainment center that offers an exciting and challenging experience. Visitors can immerse themselves in the thrilling submarine escape room, filled with unique and technologically advanced puzzles that create an authentic submarine atmosphere for 60 minutes of adventure. The polite staff ensures a welcoming environment, while the upcoming third room promises even more excitement.
We had great fun in the submarine escape room. It is not easy which was great for us. There were many riddles we havn't seen in any other escape room before which made it interesting. Clearly big emphasis on technological puzzles. You really feel in a submarine during the 60 min. Highly recommended.

This was a very good experience. And not at all as easy as it seems from one of the reviews we have read. It really made you you think hard. And cooperate. We loved the experience. But when we would go next time we would choose easier level to begin with. I highly recomend. We went with our 11 year old and he loved it as well. Please do not forget to bring cash.

Demänovská Cave of Liberty, located in the Liptov region of Slovakia, is a captivating destination for travelers. This extensive cave system stretches over 13,000 meters, with 1,600 meters accessible to visitors. The guided tour offers an opportunity to marvel at underground lakes and vibrant rock formations while learning about the cave's history and geological significance. It's advisable to check the website for tour times as entry is only permitted with a guide.
Cave of Liberty An excellent attraction and a remarkable value for money. The tour lasts approximately one hour and includes a well-organized route with numerous ascents and descents. Visitors should be prepared for a significant number of stairs both on the way down and back up. Photography inside the cave is permitted only with a special ticket (10 EUR), which is clearly marked with a green sticker and strictly enforced. It is also advisable to wear warm clothing, as the temperature inside the cave is noticeably cold.
Ilya L — Google review
Not really expensive for entree, but taking video and pictures is additional €10,-. It’s a queue of 1,5 hour outside in the sun, cash register closed for 45 minutes during cave operations? The tour is in Slovakian and no English, so for us it was just a bit of looking around, but it was absolutely beautiful. It’s just a bit of a mess in this business here, just like the parking of €10,-. Admission fee is €14,- per person.
Timo — Google review
This cave is incredibly amazing. Stunning view inside. Highly recommended to must see if you are in the area. Paid extra euro to be able to take photos. Our tour guide was so nice to translate the language to English. It was an amazing experience.
Demz R — Google review
Pretty cave but entry isn’t the cheapest, and neither is the parking. Will also say that you are not allowed to take photos without a photo pass, which costs extra
Lucia S — Google review
Would recommend 10/10! While the price of the parking ticket (€15) or admission fee (€14/€24) can scare you at first, you will soon realise that it's completely justified. We took the long tour (100 min) and I would suggest taking it as otherwise you will miss the most breathtaking and stunning experience - the Great Dome. It truly is once in a lifetime feeling seeing it for the first time. The whole tour you get to try to figure out what do the different, really varied formations resemble. As an example, in the photo attached a little mole is being strangled by a cobra 🐍 The guide speaks in Slovak but as our group was mainly Polish, there was also Polish audio played. I am not sure if there is English audio as well, but you can read most of the details in their official free English guide. If you are in the neighbourhood give it a go, you won't regret it!
Jędrzej C — Google review
The caves are impressive, but be prepared to listen to Slovak language for an hour even if in the group are only foreigners.
Tomas V — Google review
Great experience and breathtaking. Prepare yourself for long distance walk. The tour guide speaks only Slovakian which makes the tour very very boaring without understanding a single world. Even instructions inside were explained only in thier language. Specially for such a large group around 100 person in the tour. The path from Parking to the entrance were not clear and confusing. It worth the experience eventhough.
ALI A — Google review
The cave system is worth seeing. The way it is adjusted for mass tourism is painful to see. Tons of concrete are everywhere. The pariking (not governed by a cave institution) is criminally expensive. 15 EUR

Demänovská Ice Cave is a multi-level natural wonder carved by a river, featuring breathtaking ice formations such as columns, stalactites, and stalagmites. The cave offers guided tours through its icy chambers, providing visitors with an experience akin to walking into a freezer. While the inside temperature hovers around 0 degrees Celsius, the steep hike to the entrance warms up adventurers. It's advisable to dress warmly and watch out for slippery surfaces.
Amazing cave! The location is better indicated than other caves from the area, the guides are extremely considerated and well informed, the view point at the entrance is the best sight, sadly do not expect to see ice anymore but the cave is very spacious and has a strong identity. There are signs on the way toward the cave about biodiversity and history, also there is a sound and light mini show inside that is a great addition to the visit -Visit can be followed in various languages including english -cheap price -great location -family activity -good ambiance, and kind staff -the way up the cave is rough but don't worry, not long -the visit is 45min long but everything is explained very well Special thanks to Matus and Filip for their benevolence and help <3 Note about the surroundings : -"Demänovská jaskyna slobody" refers to the cave of liberty and "Demänovská l'adova jaskyna" refers to the ice cave (they are approximatively 2km away and reachable by foot) -do not try to walk from Liptovsky Mikulas, there are no sidewalk and the traffic is dense -Google don't mention it but there are bus (see picture) -what else to see around Liptovsky Mikulas : Liptovska Mara

It was beautiful place. 8€ /1 hour for parking is a joke. Unfortunately, there was no ice inside. The informational content is available in several languages. Crew was nice. 👌

Demänovská Ice Cave was an unforgettable experience! We were amazed by the shimmering ice formations and the cool, mysterious atmosphere. It felt like entering a fairytale world hidden deep underground. The mix of rock and ice is simply stunning - massive icicles, frozen waterfalls, and unique shapes sculpted by nature. The temperature drop was refreshing on a hot summer day, and the guided tour was both interesting and informative (even if not in English, visuals speak for themselves!). It’s a short hike to reach the cave, but totally worth it. Bring a jacket and good shoes - and be ready to be amazed. A perfect stop for families, adventurers, or anyone who loves nature’s hidden beauty. Highly recommend it!

Nice cave. But there is no ice. According to the guide there hasn’t been for several years due to climate change. Other reviews that are saying that there is ice in the cave from the past 3 or more yrs are according to the park service incorrect. There are only tours in Polish and Slovakian. If you don’t understand these languages, you still have to follow a group due to safety and rules. However, one of the guides was incredibly kind and translated all the information for us. This is not a given, but do ask. It made the experience much better.
Kina P — Google review
I recently visited this cave, and overall it was a nice experience. The cave itself is impressive, made of beautiful silicate formations, and the guided tour was excellent. Our guide spoke English very well and explained everything clearly, making the visit informative and enjoyable. There was even a light show, which added a unique touch to the tour. However, we were a bit disappointed because we expected to see ice inside the cave, which was the main reason we chose this one over other caves. Unfortunately, due to climate change, there is no ice anymore. While the cave is still worth visiting, travelers should be aware that it no longer has the icy features it is known for.
Petra M — Google review
The cave itself was a pleasant experience with impressive natural features, and the staff was friendly and accommodating, organizing tours into English and Slovak-speaking groups for better communication. However, the visit fell short of expectations in a few key areas. A major disappointment was the lack of ice in the cave, which was only mentioned upon entry. This could have been communicated clearly on the website or at booking to set proper expectations. The organization felt lacking in this regard. Additionally, the parking fee of 15 EUR was surprisingly high and seemed excessive for the area. Visitors should also be prepared for a physically demanding climb to the cave entrance, which may not suit everyone and wasn’t adequately highlighted beforehand. Overall, while the cave and staff were enjoyable, better transparency about the ice, parking costs, and physical requirements would greatly improve the experience. I’d recommend visiting if you’re physically able and aware of these caveats, but the management could make improvements for a smoother visit.
Andrejs G — Google review
The cave itself is impressive, although there’s no ice during the summer months anymore due to global warming. What I found disappointing, however, is that the tour is conducted only in Slovak. Considering it’s a tourist attraction, I think this is quite a drawback. It would have been much more engaging if I could actually understand what the guide was explaining. The leaflet provided with the tickets does include an English summary, but it’s very brief and only covers part of the information.
Natalia P — Google review
The cave is stunning. Obviously there is not as much ice as before but that makes it a very good reminder of the climate change that we cannot ignore anymore. Also I noticed a lot of reviews that are taking away a few stars because of the expensive parking. FIY the parking lot has nothing to do with the cave. The cave has no power over the prices of parking, do not punish them for someone else's greediness.

Stanišovská Cave is a small and cozy cave near Liptovsky Jan, easily accessible with available parking. Despite its size, the experience of exploring this cave is remarkable. The guided tour by a knowledgeable speleologist offers interesting insights for both kids and adults, making it an educational adventure. It's recommended to visit in the summer when the interior temperature is around 6 degrees Celsius. The terrain inside is not demanding, suitable for families with children and even elderly visitors.
This cave is very cool. Temperature wise, yes, but also, aesthetically. We've done a few caves in the area and this tour is among the best. The tour guide really knows what she's doing, and isn't just reciting memorized lines in that weird cadence literally every other cave guide has. She gets the kids involved and seems to actually enjoy her project. You take your own lights (provided headlamps) as the cave is wonderfully not lit up like a supermarket like others are, giving you the feel of really exploring a secret place. You can really feel the history of this cave, both geological and humanical. And it's off the beaten path, so you aren't in an overstuffed crowd. Well worth the trip and the price.

It’s a lovely cave near Liptovsky Jan. easy to get to, parking available. Perfect for small kids & families. We went in August, it wasn’t cold, just jumper was enough, trainers are fine. It does get colder in winter of Corse. Tickets are €6 adults €3 child. There’s toilet available. You need to be able to walk but my 3 year old was ok with the experience. The tour was such a great experience! Our guide spoke flawless English & the whole experience was very educational. When you are inside the cave, you come to understand the complex beauty of nature.

Nice place for the whole families including small children. You don't need to be an expert for caves to enjoy this one. The tour is not hard and I saw some very small children that were there with their parents and managed. The cave has some history and it was interesting to observe and learn with some headlamps that were lent to us by the tour guide at the beginning of the tour. The tour guide that a group where I was had was nice and kept our attention for the whole time. Offering a shot to someone from the tour group by tour guide was funny and at the same time a nice ending of the tour.

Vrbické pleso is a serene glacial lake nestled amidst a picturesque mountain setting and surrounded by lush pine forests. It is the largest natural mountain lake in the Low Tatras, boasting level-five nature protection. Visitors can embark on a short yellow-marked trail from Biela Put to reach this hidden gem, where they can unwind on benches and take in the tranquil ambiance. The area also features a children's fun zone with trampolines and a tubing track for added entertainment.
Nice small lake. Really nice place to relax . Many places to sit and chill.
Alex K — Google review
A beautiful lake and a must visit for those traveling in the area. Almost all travel websites say to park in the parking lot of Hotel Grand Jasná. Please note, parking in the hotel's parking lot is only possible for those staying at the hotel, otherwise you have to look for other solutions for parking. The beginning of the route is just across the road in front of the hotel, a path into the forest. A second option is to park near the Wellness Jasná hotel and walk a few minutes to the lake. It is recommended to take a hike around the lake. We were in October and it was very beautiful, colorful trees, it was falling everywhere.

Park MINI SLOVENSKO is an exhibition area featuring 18 meticulously detailed models of Slovak cultural monuments, with plans for further expansion. The miniatures, in a scale of 1:25, include castles and cathedrals and were first created in 2005. The park offers an engaging experience for both children and adults, with captivating train displays that attract kids' attention while adults can appreciate the precision of the models.
A beautiful park containing beautiful miniatures from across all of Slovakia. Some are iconic (Bojnice castle, or the Levoča town hall), some less renown, but of their own importance (most being either national landmarks [used on post stamps in the past] or even UNESCO heritage sites) plus the church located right in the city that you can visit and compare with. The park is supplemented with a cute railway system serviced by multiple trains along with actual renditions of some real-world railway stations. Unlike other types of miniature parks I've visited, all the miniatures, as well as the railroad, are in the same 1:25 ratio and built with meticulous detail (you can see the author must be an actual architect) while most of the miniatures are also accompanied with bonsais to make them look even more life-like (though of course the trees around the actual landmarks [if any] look different, the scenery here is beautiful in its own right). It's definitely worth a visit, plan in between 30-60 min. It's fairly popular, but not too crowded and rarely requires a wait at the entrance - also, cards are accepted here so no need for cash (but if you want some refreshments or shop for souvenirs on the marketplace across the road, you'd need to have some as the nearby venues don't accept cards).
Antonin J — Google review
Absolutely amazing place with rail tracks and electric mini trains that just go round and round. As a train fan i was really impressed.
Alexey A — Google review
Not much to see here really, only 20 models. You can see the entire park in about 20 minutes and then you have nothing to do there. It was kind of disappointing for me, I expected more from this, since I heard how amazing this park is. It’s definitely not worth the entrance fee which is 5 euros for adult and 3 euros for student. I’m not saying the models don’t look good, they surely do, I just think the ticket to this place is overpriced.

It's a nice place, our kids liked the trains best. The models are impressive and the place seems to be still growing, which is awesome. Quick visit, an hour max.

Visitors can admire the unique historical architecture and may hear or read historical descriptions in various languages. The church is open daily, and there is an option for voluntary entry fee contribution.
Lovely huge lutheran church, definitely recommend visiting it. Made from wood only. Unique historical architecture. Possibility to hear and read historical description in English and other languages also. Open daily, winter entry time is from 10:30-14:30. Voluntary entry fee contribution.

Unfortunatly it closed in that minutes when we arrive. So be carefull, because it's open from 10.00 to 14.30, but the last admission is 14.15. The church is very grandious from outside, and looks in very well conditions.

Awesome wooden church. Pity that it is open only in the morning. There is about 1m high wooden fence all around the site, so you can see it even if closed, but you cannot look through the windows inside. Housed in what was once a County House and now serves as the seat of the local District Office, this museum offers an intriguing exposition. Visitors can explore fighting knights in period armor and a replica of a torture chamber with various instruments in the basement.
The exposition of the museum is very interesting, in the back of the museum you can experience fighting knights in period armor in the basement is the replica of the torture chamber with different torture instruments. Upstairs there are 500 years books of priceless value. The guide also knows a lot of interesting facts and stories. You can see the bobbin lace gallery, the blueprint exhibition, as well as objects depicting the life of foresters and hunters, as well as the Likavské-Hrádek estate. The upper attic spaces are dedicated to the exhibition of shepherd culture and sheep farming. The gallery of the folk carver Jozef Smutniak has also found its place here. It is a valuable and informative museum that deserves more visitors and attention. Perhaps even more than the manor house in Liptovský Hrádek. We chisse the 3hours ticket. The building is not finished but you can have fun time with family. The playground area was good. The climbig section my kids didn’t try. Bouncing castle we played a little bit. The bumper cars are ok. 3 and 5 year old boys had a smaller bumper cars. We bought souvenir t-shirts. For the last day of our holiday was good to go there. If they finosh it will be very interesting.

I was deciding where to go and read reviews. Some were not positive, however, we went. I understand why people complain about entry fee, but it was well worth it! The work and details they put into that park is amazing. My kids (4 & 9) had so much fun. Definitelly we will visit again next year. Well done Fantasia🥰
Sandra A — Google review
Visited for the first time while on holiday in Slovakia during a rainy day... I took my 9 and 7 year old and they enjoyed the place very much. Plenty to do and kept them busy the entire 3 hours (ticket duration) However, as many mentioned before, it can get very expensive... 2 kids + 1 adult entry for 3 hours we paid €56. Bought few extra tokens, coffee and a couple of drinks, spent €80... If you plan to buy food also, it will climb much higher. Not sure why the adults ticket are so expensive since the adults have to be there to supervise the kids and not to play? Would not go again purely based on the entry fee unfortunately.
Milan B — Google review
1. Entry for 17€ for a kid and 7€ for an adult seems to be a high prize especially that there is absolutely nothing to do for an adult person. But that’s something you get to know after you pay. 2. The place is terribly empty. All you pay for is two playgrounds, one of them is an inflatable castle (pretty typical) and the other one is a (must admit: beautiful) covered playground with varied types of attractions. But: 3. There is multiple spots which are not secured. Part of the playground can be only accessed after climbing metal stairs which damage socks (wearing socks is obligatory). Several places that are under construction/dirty are easily accessible so if you have the „explorer” type of kids - you’d better follow it everywhere. Not recommended.
Kubson S — Google review
Nice place to visit, especially when it is raining and to keep kids entertained. The only drawback would be air ventilation. The air was "heavy", can't imagine what it must be like when it is sunny outside. I would advise the owner to look at it. Cheers.
Vladimir B — Google review
The price is ridiculously high for such low content and quality inside... Some machines are not working, most attractions are disappointing, some machines are not working, only the actual playground makes sense to spend some time for the kids... 68€ for 2 adults and 2 kids for 3 hours, plus a 2€ wooden ball for 2 poor small activities inside, this is theft.. Why should even adult pay to be with their kids inside while the activities are for the kids?? Food quality inside is bad (industrial prepacked or frozen)... We will not go back there, never!
