Barfield Crescent Park is a sprawling 430-acre community park in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, sports fields, and even a golf course. The park features over 7 miles of paved and unpaved trails that take visitors through limestone sinks, cedar glades, wildflower-filled meadows, and along the picturesque Stones River.
This, to me, is a wonderful park, and I'm glad that we have it. Supposedly, the bike course is rather difficult, although I never saw anything that appears to be a bike path. The disc golf course is fun and challenging. There is a nice nature center and trail as well.

Honestly one of my favorite parks to go to. Tons of trails even a trail to a river. Tons of open space and wooded areas well kept. Its a popular spot especially on the trails.
Melissa L — Google review
Want to play a little game? Count how many wild life you find while on the trail. I found a turtle 🐢 There much to love about this park. It’s very well maintained. If you want exercise without distraction I’d suggest heading to the park by 6:30 as it can get quite packed. I nearly lost a limb from a biker going max speed. Only downside is that highway near it is loud. 9/10 turtles 🐢

Nice and quiet. Not a lot of traffic. Lots of parking.. walked a trail to the river.. will try again.
Bin K — Google review
It's a great pack. Very well taken care of and area is kept clean. The grass areas are very nice. There's a large pavilion. Our kids love to play at the play grounds that have 2 different areas and a walking hiking trail that is pretty nice. You can reserve different areas for party's as well.

The wilderness station provides nature programs, making it ideal for families and nature lovers. Clean restrooms and ample parking add to the convenience. It’s a peaceful place to enjoy nature or spend a day with family.

Barfield Crescent is the best park in Murfreesboro. The park itself is never too busy, and there is plenty of space for all kinds of groups. The disc golf course, specifically, is excellent. Always well maintained, the holes are very unique and fun to play. Would definitely recommend to any disc golfers passing through.

Sports complex
McKnight Park is a spacious community park spanning 81 acres. It offers various amenities such as a covered picnic area, multipurpose fields, and a playground. The grounds are equipped with padded surfaces to ensure the safety of children. An interesting feature of the park is a fake dog sitting on a bench, initially causing fear but eventually encouraging bravery. Referred to by some as 'Octopus Park,' it is immensely popular among kids who thoroughly enjoy their time there.
This playarea is pretty spacious and relatively new one. The slides are pretty interesting for kids of all ages. The number of slides are also more. The area has at least 10 benches for accompanying parents to rest and keep a watch out for their kids.

I love bringing my child here to play at the playground. It’s a perfect size — not too big, not too small — and there's plenty of parking. There’s also a large field that’s great for events or just relaxing. It’s a great spot for families in the area!

My kids had a great time at Smyrna TN new park. They even made it sturdy enough for adults to play on the new park equipment. Gone over there and have some fun playing. We really look forward to going back.

This is an awesome little park I found . It has some pretty cool play equipment and even has a water park near by in the same lot. I go to Murfreesboro every money for a check in with my dialysis clinic and kidney dr and this was a pleasant surprise. I will definately take my kiddos back for a visit.

We really enjoyed this park with our toddler grandson. It was perfect for a 3 year old. Plenty for him to do.
Ginny J — Google review
I can't believe this is a public park. We are retired California transplants to be close to the grandbabies and this park is amazing. It is so well laid out and endless stimulating play areas. From slides to musical instruments and kid sized ziplines. Things that spin and tons of things to climb. What a treasure and its FREE.

Gateway Island is one of my favorite spots for a light walk in the evening. It’s spacious, quiet, and always beautiful — especially when the seasons change. I love taking photos here throughout the year; every season brings a different kind of charm. A peaceful place to relax, move your body, and enjoy nature.

I didn't even know this existed until yesterday, but I would highly recommend! It's so beautiful and peaceful, and the duckies are fun to watch. There's a lot of seating, so I took advantage of the beautiful day to make a sandwich

Great park for a walk. Island has places to sit and just relax and take it all in. Nice art sculpture between the bridges as well.

The park features pavilions, playgrounds, and restroom facilities, making it an ideal spot for families and friends to gather. Additionally, the park boasts picnic spots with beautiful views of the surrounding greenery and a fenced-in Bark Park where dogs can roam off-leash safely.
The Carson Trailhead is great. Adequate parking for where it is there are several along the greenway. Wonderful signing for the trail map and information about Wildlife you may see along the trail. I felt safe leaving my vehicle there lots of traffic on the road so be careful pulling out.
Bob B — Google review
Recommend using the Google app to arrive at the Trailhead. (Apple went to Costco). GREAT spot for all ages and members of the family. If walking your dog in the heat be advised some tar/paved areas do not have shade so walk 🐾 them in the grass or consider alternatives. Great for bird watching, connecting with self and nature.
J S — Google review
Love going here with my kids 🥰such a friendly environment. They have a dog park . It’s so nice to see other parents enjoying playtime with their kids . I also come here for peace of mind to just breathe and enjoy the atmosphere and view of nature . They have a big dog park to bring your pups . Dogs of all size

Park
Kids Castle at Old Fort Park is a family-friendly playground with thoughtful design, featuring fenced-off areas for kids' safety. The playground offers a variety of slides, climbing areas, and swings suitable for children of all ages. Despite some crowded days and occasional maintenance issues with broken slides, the park provides fun options for kids and convenient amenities such as nearby restrooms and picnic tables. However, it may not be very accessible for adults needing to closely supervise children or those with special needs.
This park has a lot of fun options for kids of different ages. We like the variety and that they have restrooms beside the park. There’s normally a Kona ice truck around too, if your kids like that. We don’t come here often because it’s always pretty crowded and parking is impossible. There are nice walking trails near the park (across from the tennis courts). There’s plenty of picnic tables too!
Brooke Y — Google review
This is a nice play ground for children they have several different things for kids to play on swings, slides, among other things. There's plenty of seating for children most is in the shade. The biggest downfall to the place is it gets extremely crowded at some times.
Cody — Google review
I appreciate the fact that this park has fun things for kids of all ages. It has interesting and unique climbing structures as well as a toddler area. I like that it has a swing for an adult or older child to ride along with a little one. Overall, this is a really nice playground.
Sarah — Google review
Huge playground. Fenced with one entrance. None of the wooden castle remains. It's been replaced with more modern playground set up, but it is beginning to breakdown. Still a ton of fun, but they need to be more proactive with repairs. Bathroom nearby, but I wouldn't send my kids alone. Greenway, picnic tables and pickleball courts all right there.
Kat — Google review
Granddaughter had fun playing. Talking with other parent it seems that the broken playground equipment has been there awhile. If it has I hope it either gets repaired, removed or replaced as it was my only concern I had.
Travis A — Google review
A great place for kids to be a kid. Alot of swings and things to play on. I even saw kids riding a remote car it was so nice alot of bicycles were out today. They also have clean bathrooms you can use.
Sharon C — Google review
It's a nice park with lots of free grass and a pavilion. It also has lots of walking paths, with a skating park close by.

Consider spending quality time with your family at Richard Siegel Park in Murfreesboro. This impressive 130-acre athletic complex is renowned for hosting prestigious events throughout the country. It features excellent soccer fields, including turf pitches that offer convenience and ease of play. Although the park is currently undergoing construction, some areas and fencing may obstruct spectators' views. However, overall cleanliness is maintained, making it an ideal place to enjoy a game of soccer.
Great Bermuda Fields, adding at least 4 Artificial Turf Fields, ample parking, well planned facilities & layout. An amazing resource for the State!
Ryan V — Google review
This is a very beautiful Park in area for everybody to come and enjoy the day. My biggest and only complaint is that there is no place for a bus to come in with a group to participate for say a soccer tournament. I brought a group in two or three or four times and had to leave and find a place to park. They're still ample ways to improve on that but it still needs to be done. At least have a place for bus to park
Allan B — Google review
Many may not know of the nice walking trail behind the back soccer fields...wonderfully peaceful and I've never seen anyone else on the trail. It's always well mowed and trimmed!
Avery W — Google review
Beautiful soccer field complex just on June 20th my son playing soccer on the turf It is 89° outside and I'm sure the turf is higher temperature I have concern about the high temperature I would like the corporation to test the temperature of the turf if it is good for players ( plastic heat faster from regular grass)
Luay A — Google review
Great park but prepare yourself for the smell comig from the landfill! It's worse somedays than others. This park is fantastic. Everything is operated nicely. Workers are friendly. The park is clean and well kept. One of the best fields in Murfreesboro!
Britney S — Google review
One of the best soccer parks in middle Tennessee. Twenty-one soccer fields, including a stadium field and one indoors. All fields are lighted, so you can play morning, noon, or night. It features a mixture of grass and turf fields, so rain won’t stop your soccer matches.
Lee H — Google review
Of course there are the soccer fields, bit we came for the playground in the back. Very nice play area surrounded by multiple small pavillions. 2 sand volleyball courts that we used as a sand box. Also a small walking trail. Bathrooms.
Kat — Google review
Eh. Park is clean, but there's no swings. My almost two year old grabbed my hand and walked us back to the car because it was boring. That's a first for her.

The park offers various amenities, including fun equipment for kids and adults, making it an ideal spot for families. Visitors can enjoy swimming with the assurance of cleanliness, friendly staff, and attentive lifeguards.
Went there to learn how to play pickle ball and it was FUN. The volunteers there were awesome and it was nice to learn with other newbies. Will be sure to come back.

Play racquetball and pickleball at this location. Staff is always friendly. There are usually plenty of people to play pickleball with Monday,Wednesday, and Friday mornings indoor. Outdoor there are 6 courts that are open play, gets busy in summer everyday. I play outdoor in summer 7am to noon.
Mark F — Google review
I use the indoor track, weights and library there. 2 free hours on computer. There is also a walking track outside and you can rent the pavillion for birthday parties, reunions, church celebrations or non profit events. Cost is reasonable. If you have Medicare get your free membership. You have access to all exercise classes, the weight room, water aerobics, racketball, and the swimming pool. Water aerobics every day Monday through Friday 8 am to 9am or 9am to 10am.

We had a very fun time during open swim. I want for my toddler to have lots of exposure to water so he can, over time develop swim skills. He's too young for lessons yet but we will be back to play now we know how cool it is!

Melanie W — Google review
12/30/2022: I drove 45 minutes from Thompson’s Station to take my 2 and 4 year old to the “pool playground”. The hours for open swim as bizarre as is and they are only open (during the day) on Friday mornings for open swim. I called in advance to confirm open swim was still scheduled. We arrived at 10:30, open swim started at 10 am. I changed the kids into swim suits in the car and walked in only to be told that the pool was at capacity and we wouldn’t be admitted. I had to drag my screaming 2 & 4 year old from the building because I had of course promised them pool time. They saw the pool and the other kids playing and didn’t understand why they couldn’t participate. Frustrating as a mom who spent the entire morning packing and planning for a few hours at the pool with two littles. I fully understand that there are operational standards, but in a day and age where it takes seconds to update operational information that should have been done. Disappointing.
Ashley E — Google review
Very inexpensive place to join for working out! The weight room is clean and not super crowded. This location offers a wide variety of group fitness classes that I enjoy. There is an indoor track, an indoor pool, racquet ball courts, basketball courts, a rec room, and more! They do not offer child care. Tip: Join mid December to beginning of January for a better deal!

Park
Barfield Crescent Mountain Bike Trails, located in the southernmost part of the park, offer over seven miles of diverse trails suitable for cyclists of all skill levels. The hand-built trails are known for their tough and rocky terrain, providing a unique and progressive riding experience. While not offering fast flow trails, the area is praised for its challenging and demanding features that allow riders to improve their technical skills and balance.
Rocky tech without elevation. It’s not a fast trail, but it’s a great workout and will make you a better rider! I wouldn’t say anything there is for beginners though, I’d consider it blue+. Go for it and walk if you aren’t comfortable! Would be a good idea to have the basics of a front wheel lift down before you go. Watch the signs for which direction to go, it changes based on the day.
Leanne P — Google review
Barfield park, contrary to other info out there, is a very challenging and great place to ride and develop or advance your skill level...now, if you dont want to be challenged its not for you...but if you enjoy true skill building challenging riding, its absolutely for you...it has several different level trails for everyone to enjoy...dont listen to the negative go out and make your own decision on Murfreesboros toughest trails! See you out there fellow riders!!
Steve S — Google review
This place is rad. So many rocks, chunk and fun technical features. Don’t expect flow, but you’ll get a workout and leave with a smile on your face. Want to get better at tech and balance on your bike? Hit Barfield!
Jason C — Google review
1st attempt was right after rain, it was very slick and front end wanted to wash out at any moment. I will be trying again tomorrow with hopefully more traction, either way it was very fun/exciting.
Alex C — Google review
Barfield gets a bad rep because people aren't sure what to expect when they go. It's tough, rocky, and will show you every gap in your riding skills, but if you push through and learn there features, there is very little that will stop you in your tracks. It's one of the most progressive trails around Middle Tennessee and it was all hand built. Every broken up rock was broken by a trail builder. A tremendous amount of work went into this trail and the riding it offers is truly unique. One tip, when you plan to ride it, think of it as more of a skills day than a quick flowy ride. There is some flow, but you have to make it yourself. Barfield will teach you how to tackle rocks, and once you work your way up to Advanced 1 & 2, you will hit some of the best features the trail has to offer. Beginner 1 & 2 are only beginner in comparison to the rest of the trails, but take your time and focus on technique and you'll be clearing most of it in no time.
Michael S — Google review
These trails are not for the faint of heart. They are total tech trails. There are some beginner trails so if you’re not use to riding tech this will be a good Guate if you want to continue with the intermediate and advanced trails. Overall though these types of trails will help you gain bike balance skills as well as give you a full body workout. There is no flow, table tops or berms, you go to Barfield to learn and workout! Be forewarned!
Bobby M — Google review
Fun, challenging trails for experienced riders. Contrary to initial press releases, green “beginner” trails are not at all appropriate for new mountain bikers. Many large rock crossings are more technical than anything at Montgomery Bell State Park. Recommend at least 20 hours of trail riding and some in person or online instruction first if you are new to the sport (in addition to helmet, gloves, and suspension fork).
LJ S — Google review
Best place to improve your technical riding skills in Middle Tennessee. Go here, ride beginner 1 until comfortable. Then venture out. Not going to sugarcoat it, this trail is tough. But nothing worth having is easy. Also, make sure to go get your post ride treat down the road at Spoke Easy Bike Shop!

What makes this site unique is its year-round wetness in certain areas, which is uncommon for a cedar glade. The area is home to several globally rare or threatened plant species, making it an intriguing destination for nature enthusiasts and hikers alike.

Wilderness Station, nestled within Barfield Crescent Park, is a delightful destination that seamlessly blends nature and adventure. The park features well-maintained hiking trails that meander through stunning limestone rock formations, offering visitors a glimpse into the area's ancient geological history. As you explore these paths, you'll encounter fascinating natural features reminiscent of an ancient sea floor rather than caves. This serene spot is also perfect for family gatherings; it boasts clean facilities ideal for hosting events like birthday parties.
Wonderful place to host your child’s birthday party at! It is a very clean facility. We invited roughly 20 people to my daughter’s 10th bday in December and still had plenty of room for activities. We also got to see and learn about Bearded Dragons. All of the kids had a blast and the staff is very friendly. They also have a cute shop in the same building with really neat items.

Hidden gem right in Murfreesboro! Just off a main thoroughfare yet very peaceful. Be sure and follow “Outdoor Murfreesboro” to stay abreast of activities and hikes. Or just go and follow the trail and soak in the beauty and peace.

Barfield Crescent Park's hiking trails offer a captivating journey through time and nature, showcasing magnificent limestone rock formations that are nothing short of awe-inspiring. As you wander along these trails, you'll be struck by the illusion of caves etching their way into the forest floor. But they aren’t caves—just the floor of an ancient sea floor. Also skmeoto note: The hiking trails themselves are well-maintained! Whether you're an avid hiker, a geology enthusiast, or simply someone seeking a serene escape into the beauty of nature, Barfield Crescent Park's trails with their ancient rock formations promise an unforgettable experience. Take a step back in time and embark on a hike that offers not just physical exercise but also a deeper connection with the geological history of our planet. It's a place where the past whispers its secrets, and the present stands still in wonder.

Wonderful place to take a nice stroll. Or go to the Center and see some birds or even a few snakes. Great for kids.

Awesome little trail that led me to a dried up river to walk through!

Had a lot of fun doing the World Turtle Day. My daughter loves turtles and she enjoyed doing all the stations.

I didn't realize how much there was to offer at Barfield Crescent until my sister and I went to the Hummingbird Festival. We learned so much from Jane, our nature walk guide. Although we saw no Hummingbirds it was an amazing event. We will go back to Barfield Crescent Park for other events and outings.

Murfreesboro Bark Park is a large and frequently visited park with an abundance of dogs. The park is especially busy from 4-6 pm, although weekends are consistently bustling all day long. It is advisable to bring your own water as the water pump may not always be functioning properly. Dogs are always eager to go there and there is also a spacious trail behind the park.
Honestly the best Park out there. Most everyone who attend are regulars and everyone is really respectful and mindful of their dogs. It has a small Agility area as well as a walking trail that goes down to a creek. It has a split park for Big and Small dogs but its a mix in both usually.

Very nice big park! We didn’t have time to explore beyond the gates but it seemed like there was even more to see as several dogs came in wet. The dog water fountains weren’t working when we were there but they had a remedy set up so I didn’t have to worry about lack of water. Great experience.

Love this park. Friendly people and dogs. Creek near by only thing is wish it was bigger and had a walking trail inside the dog park!! That would be cool
Tricia D — Google review
My dog loves this place! They just need to fix the broken water spouts so the dogs have water! All the pet owners bring water and are kind enough to share with others if they don't know the water faucets don't work. Lots of doggy friends come here! Great place for them to run around!

The park is really big and almost always has dogs in it, which is nice as we come for our pups to play with others. 4-6 pm seems to be the busiest, even though weekends are busy entire day. Water pump is not always working so I'd advise to bring some water with you. Overall, my dogs are always excited to go there. There is also a wide trail behind, which is great too.

Meh, it’s a dog park but don’t think it’s the place for us. Stepped in poop multiple times. My pup was filthy leaving and had poop all over his feet. We both required a wash after. It wasn’t very busy but definitely dominant dogs and I’m not interested in a dog bite so will find other places to socialize my pup. No working water. Will check out the trail next time and just leash walk.
Carmen B — Google review
Love this place because of the river in the back! My husband and I love taking our pup here to play, and if you’re trying to socialize your dog, there’s almost always other dogs there no matter what time we visit. The river is easy to walk through with Chacos/Tevas/water shoes, and has some deeper areas for your dog to swim. So bring some water toys if they’re good at fetch (there is a current). But watch out— there’s snakes. Especially watch out in the tall grass in the middle of the bank.
Sydney F — Google review
The water is currently shut off. So you ne3d to bring your own water. There is a large & a small dog area. Plenty of shade & seating. Beautiful park. No restrooms. A nice asphalt walking path. River access also available. PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE AND PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOGS.
