Park
Nature & Parks
Clemyjontri Park, located in McLean, is a unique 2-acre playground designed to cater to children of all abilities. The park features a ground-level carousel with 14 horses, a picnic pavilion, walking trails, spinning teacups, and a trackless miniature train ride. It offers an inclusive environment where kids can play side-by-side regardless of their developmental, mobility, or sensory disabilities.
Just discovered this park and am super disappointed in myself that we didn't come here earlier, it's awesome! It's big and there's lots to do for all ages. There's a track and a drag racing strip, slides, trains, planes, tire swings, a maze, and more. My kids loved it, we loved it, and it is a great playground. Lots of shade and benches too.
Benjamin B — Google review
It’s easy to get to from the Beltway, and the best and largest free park in the DMV. There’s also a carousel and train ride that needs tickets to ride. I was most impressed with the clean bathrooms by the entrance, and lots of free parking spaces, maybe because we were there early. You can absolutely wear you and your kids out in a half day.
Tony L — Google review
★★★★★ Clemyjontri Park is an absolute must-visit! From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by a vibrant, fully accessible playground that brilliantly balances safety, inclusivity, and pure fun. The wide, gentle ramps and transfer platforms ensure children of all abilities can explore independently, while the variety of swings (including adaptive bucket swings) means every child can feel the thrill of flying through the air. My kids were mesmerized by the colorful play structures—there’s something new to discover around every corner, from whimsical slides to sensory panels. The shaded picnic pavilions and plenty of benches make it easy for families to relax and refuel without losing sight of the fun. The signature four-person carousel is a highlight—watching the smiles as it spins is a joy in itself. The grounds are impeccably maintained and impeccably clean, and the staff we encountered were friendly and attentive. Whether you’re there for a quick afternoon break or planning an all-day adventure, Clemyjontri delivers. Five stars all the way! 😍🌟🌳

Clemyjontri Park is a great place for families, especially those with small kids. The playground is big, clean, and well maintained, with lots of outdoor play equipment that children really enjoy. The restrooms and the whole area were clean during our visit. Just a heads up—there aren’t any stores nearby, so make sure to bring your own water and snacks. Parking can be a bit tough when the park gets crowded, as there aren't many spots available.
Ali A — Google review
It's a wonderful playground for children. My child thoroughly enjoys playing on all the playground equipment and especially loves the carousel ride. The tickets are $5 per person.
Thanade S — Google review
Best Park in the entire United States. 5 kids and we travel a ton. We were passing through and found this gem. Bring a bike/scooter and helmet and let them loose. Clean, well designed and even the bathroom was well done. This is how our taxes should be spent. Kudos to the design team and thank you to the families who gifted this space.
R. P — Google review
Updated review: We keep coming back to this park. Has great options even for our toddler. It also has swings for differently abled kids. Super clean. Used the restroom and it was also very clean. Love this park. Great for our toddler. Too many options and super clean and well kept
Muz M — Google review
Park has a great design, you can tell considerations were made into keeping the area covered for maximum shade and designing a multiuse space. However, the park but aged significantly compared to many of the online photos. Many of the pieces were closed and wrapped up in yellow tape. We attended on day with multiple events and parking was limited. On a typical day it would have probably been sufficient. The carousel was a nice attraction but it was a very short ride considering there's a 30 minute wait in between each ride.

McLean Central Park is a recreational area that includes both wooded and lawn sections. It offers various amenities, such as a disc golf course and a gazebo for summer concerts. Situated off George Washington Parkway in McLean, Virginia, the park can be easily accessed with clearly marked exits. Hikers can enjoy year-round access to Turkey Run Park, which offers several trail options. The park features beautiful scenery along the trails, with occasional narrow and challenging sections.
In the middle of the town you can have a good 'forest' trail. Beautiful trees. Full of birds. You are invited to walk.
Maitreya M — Google review
Best park in the center of McLean. Kids enjoy the playground
Parikshit — Google review
In winter also it looks nice, so i am guessing it will be so much more prettier in summer. Nice trails to walk on. Serene and peaceful environment. Playground for little ones , tennis court, library near by and ample parking..
Anup K — Google review
Closed all spring summer and fall. This appears to be a lesson on how not to run a project March 15 update: They are now cutting down around a dozen mature trees. This is shameful
Mike S — Google review
It was my first time there & it was very peaceful & the drive there thru the neighborhood was beautiful - we BBQ & the picnic table & trash can area ,was very clean.Great place for family.
Karl S — Google review
A lovely place to walk the wooded trails, enjoy a playground or find a tennis court.
Carol K — Google review
Beautiful park, the trail is gorgeous but it gets really narrow and difficult at some points. Going towards great falls the whole way there is water view. Bathroom always clean. There is a nice and small gift shop. There is a boat ramp as well.

Great spot for a nice walk. Park at the library to enter the path. Mostly paved the whole way. Flat ground. Easy and good for kids.

Has basketball’s court, soccer field, baseball field, pickle ball court and more. Loved the community garden as well.

Great turf fields. Stands are behind the goal line on one side so non optimum for viewing. We set up chairs between fields. Some people were on a hill overlooking the field. Well maintained and good location. Only pita potties currently. (understand there are development plans for bathrooms)

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Scott’s Run Nature Preserve, nestled in McLean, Virginia, is a peaceful natural retreat spanning 336 acres along the scenic Potomac River. The preserve offers a network of trails that wind through lush forests and open meadows, providing an ideal setting for hiking and wildlife observation. A major attraction is the picturesque waterfall located at the end of one of the trails.
Really nice trail right off of a busy road. Very limited parking which is the only negative. All paths are clearly marked, the trails are very well maintained, and great views. No restroom nor porta potty. Very kid friendly and dog friendly. The full loop has some dangerous steep areas that may not be great for dogs or kids, but the majority of the trail is great for all. Worth checking out!
Tim B — Google review
I’ve been here a few times now and it’s such a nice place to go on a hike. It’s between an easy and moderate hike with the elevation reaching about 400 ft where I usually go. Parking can be tricky sometimes because there are limited spots. Fortunately, there’s a construction site across the road where I noticed people parking. Despite the parking situation, I would recommend hiking here.
Ashley C — Google review
This is a nice park that is great for those looking for a gentle hike near the city. I recommend starting at the west parking lot and taking the purple trail, turning north onto the yellow trail all the way to the river, then follow the blue trail back to the parking lot.
Jed L — Google review
Fantastic Trail! Well maintained, very family friendly. Some portions of the trail were quite steep, so a walking stick is recommended, but not required (as long as you don’t mind grabbing on to branches, rocks, etc). I went on a Sunday afternoon and didn’t seem too overcrowded at all. Groups of all ages seem to be enjoying the trail. There is a map of the area, and some rules you should review before deciding to begin your trail. Overall, it was a great experience.
Emmanuel S — Google review
Great little park with hiking trails for morning walks. The parking lot is not that large so you may have to wait for a spot. Well maintained trails that are mostly under a canopy of trees so you're not going to get sunburned. Trails maps are visbke.
Shawn ( — Google review
Beautiful trails. Had no idea this place even existed. Tons of trails to explore, picturesque, nice area to take kids and adults.
AA-Ron — Google review
Nice little hike in Langley… if you can find parking on weekends. If you park in the fire lane they WILL ticket you.
Graham G — Google review
Nice loop trail. I think it's just challenging enough for a beginner with some fairly steep parts and some trees and to scramble over. Nice views of the river and small waterfall. Was there on a weekday so not overcrowded and space in the parking lot

Langley Fork Park is a spacious park with a large football/soccer field and well-maintained softball/baseball and soccer fields. It offers a good walking trail, although some areas may need more upkeep. The park is not usually crowded, providing a peaceful atmosphere. However, its secluded location may attract high school kids. Despite this, the park hosts programs like Flag Star Football for children and is generally clean and well-kept.
Good short walking trail. Some of the park clearly needs a little more upkeep, but the softball/baseball and soccer fields are nice! Overall a nice park and should be even better if/when they re-do some portions of the trails and pavilion
Nick P — Google review
Mediocre park, decent parking in a bumpy lot with tons of giant potholes, no bathrooms, and lots of gnats.
Andy D — Google review
It's alright, but there are better fields in the area. Basketball courts have cracks in them and the fields could be better maintained. The grass can grow somewhat long which makes them hard to use. The pro is that the fields are usually empty.
Billy T — Google review
Hard to find the entrance and GPS sent me to wrong parking lot. The grass fields could use some help.
Bill M — Google review
Attend Flag Star Football here! Beat program around for kids!!! Great park that is well maintained
Jon M — Google review
Yesterday, 20 August, at about 1545 hours at the park I saw a juvenile Coyote on the large football/soccer field, located to your right as you enter the park. This Coyote was not afraid of me and allowed me to get within 40 yards of him. Be aware of this as small dogs are a meal for a Coyote. I was with my Yellow Lab, who weighs 75 pounds, but the Coyote was not afraid of us. I called Animal Control to advise of this animal so close to where lots of folks and dogs get exercise.
Michael W — Google review
Good wide open park. Never very crowded. A bit tough to find entrance and secluded so HS kids come here to do what HS kids do. It is slated for redevelopment in the next decade or so with the slow pace of gov meandering.

Turkey Run Park offers a variety of hiking trails that wind through diverse landscapes, including upland forests and riverbanks in the Potomac Gorge. The park features easy to medium difficulty trails, providing opportunities to spot small wildlife like toads while enjoying peaceful surroundings. Visitors can expect fun creek crossings and may even come across a charming waterfall along the way. However, some parts of the trail may be flooded after rainy days, requiring detours.
I can't believe I've never been to this park before. The loop was more challenging than expected with fallen trees and slippery rocks but the view of the small water falls is great. Also great views of the river. Plan to revisit during leaf peeping season
R N — Google review
What a great hike!! Challenging and you can go explore off path and make it a 10mile hike all the way around. Definitely worth going.
Liz D — Google review
This area is great for walking and biking. You can have short rests by the water, enjoying the beautiful scene with chirping birds.
Seniye G — Google review
Nice falls and a relatively easy hike. Stroller friendly for the most part except the two creek crossings
Alimurtaza K — Google review
Beautiful trails thru the woods and down to the Potomac River. At least one water crossing to get to the Potomac Heritage Trail, so be sure to wear good shoes! Super friendly and helpful staff at the Park Headquarters. Restrooms in a small separate building (didn't use, but do seem to be serviced regularly).
Andrea M — Google review
Great escape from the city, directly off of the GW Parkway. You are able to step up to the Potomac, but also into the trails off of it. Fairly easy, but there is a steep decline, with stairs, so for some it's a bit more challenging. For most, it's not bad at all.
Joseph R — Google review
It's medium high trail. A lot of rocks, mud, and streams that you need to climb over. Turkey Run trail that connects to the Potomac River got flooded and we weren't able to pass by. A lot of bugs since it's close to water and some dead animals on its path. But the stairs and chairs were very well maintained. Plenty of parkings.
Kelly L — Google review
It has great easy to medium trails. It also has lots of small wildlife like toads and can be quiet peaceful. After rainy days, be prepared for fallen trees, muddy trails, and an overflowing river. Not five stars due to dirty bathrooms and insufficient trail signage (some of the fallen trees had trail markers) Overall, would come and hike again before heading to Scott's Run.

Park
Nestled in Arlington, Lubber Run Park is a delightful destination for families seeking outdoor fun and adventure. Spanning 0.83 miles, the park features both paved and natural trails that meander alongside a picturesque stream, making it perfect for leisurely strolls or more challenging hikes. The scenic wooded surroundings provide an ideal backdrop for exploration. Families will find plenty of amenities to enhance their visit, including picnic shelters equipped with charcoal grills, public restrooms, and drinking fountains.
We found this place looking for local kid friendly trails as we have a three, almost four year old. We came out to lubber run trail and entered at the parking lot above the ampitheater. It's a beautiful paved/graveled trail that winds over and around a wide flowing creek. It's beautiful, small child friendly and just big enough to be a good hike where you feel like you spent a good time hiking without wanting it to be over the last little while. The playground is accessible by a series of stairs and boasts a sandpit, slides, a rock climbing wall, playhouses, climbing areas and a basketball and tennis courts. It has a community center with an indoor track and various other amenities. A great place for a day trip although not much shade in the playground areas so it gets very hot and icky in the summer. During the spring and fall it's ideal. It is kind of disability friendly as it does have a wheelchair accessible ramp outside the community center to the playground but to get from the community center to the trail you have to take a few stairs or go out into the neighborhood road and then to an access trail to get back onto the main trail. Very pretty though and a good "not too long, not too short" kind of family trail. There are full restrooms right off the left side of the path as you come in from the ampitheater parking lot and while I have not personally been inside the community center areas, I would assume they have restrooms as well.
Emily S — Google review
My son and I absolutely love this park! It’s got a nice trail with a little creek, and it has an amazing playground! The slide ride was even fun for myself, and few other dads also seemed to enjoy it! 😂 Also, my son loved spending his time in the sandbox with his trucks and shovels. We went both this past Saturday and Sunday, and my son wanted to go again as soon as he got back from the daycare today! 😆
Jennifer B — Google review
Great new recreation center being put in here. Should be finished soon, hopefully people will be able to congregate again soon. Beautiful timber construction with great views. I like the grass park above the parking garage that is totally hidden from the neighborhood.
Dan F — Google review
Wild Virginia in heart of busy area. Great playground and nature trail for kids.Free street parking. Nice bathrooms in adjacent community center.
Charles M — Google review
The highlight of this park is hands down the two big yellow slides! All the kids love them - even my little one year old loves them and my 3 year old can’t get enough. The climbing wall to the side is fun as well, but there are also steps if you or your kid(s) would rather. If you have younger kids that like to have you help come expecting a workout :) There’s also a really nice sand pit - we always bring our own sand toys to maximize the fun. As with many parks, I feel there could be more swings, especially here where it can get really busy on a weekend. Lots of fun play features here - a seesaw, small slide and playground for the littles, a sitting spin toy, and some wooden climbing structures for older kids. If there’s anything lacking, I’d actually saw they could use a bit more for older kids, but I have young kids so it’s great for us! It’s a must visit to try out the slides! Nearby are some nice wooded trails to enjoy. Plenty of street parking available.
Shannon I — Google review
Clean fun park for kids. 2 fun slides, sand area, walking trail, modern play structures, and clean indoor rec area for bathrooms, indoor track etc.
April — Google review
Great park! Lots of unique spots for kids and adults. Our favorite was the yellow slides, but also seesaw, sand area, rope climbing things, and our activities. Also basketball courts, grass fields, ample benches. Street and garage parking. Also, across from an elementary school with even more play ground equipment. Short walk to the trail.

Fort Marcy, a Civil War-era fortification located in a park of the same name, offers a blend of history and natural beauty. Situated 275 feet above the Potomac River, it features well-preserved earthworks that showcase military strategies from the Civil War. The park is home to interpretive signs providing insights into the fort's historical significance. Originally built to protect Chain Bridge as part of Washington's defenses during the Civil War, Fort Marcy now safeguards wildlife in its surroundings.
Very Idyllic, Nice Cool Expedition. Fabulous On Site Trails. Extremely Relaxing. Weather Awesome, So Many Underrated Recreational DC Esplanades. Really Enjoyed Day!
Steven H — Google review
Probably a decent place for picnics but there's only 3 tables dotted throughout the small park. There's a bit of history here but no actual fort. Beyond the picnic area and historical info, there's not much to this park.
Sarah O — Google review
Fort Marcy is one of multiple locations for Defenses of Washington. It has the potential to be a very good park, but it needs alot of work. The picnic tables are in very poor condition Signs in bad condition. Trails have branches across them. The highlight to the walk was two deers.
Sharon M — Google review
Awesome park. I do Ham Radio Parks on the Air from here quite often. Great spot, great trail(s) and neat bit of history at this park.
Lambert M — Google review
Decent park and trails but the downside is the trails mostly border the road so all you hear is traffic. There's a few sections that are really nice with a waterway passing though, but that's about the highlight. There's also a small historical section as well near the parking area.
Mike — Google review
I've never been to Fort Marcy but I'll go ahead and review it since Google's asking me to. Fort Marcy is the best place ever. Marcy stands by the front gate giving out candy. One thing I do know about fort Marcy is the crony of Bill Clinton supposedly committed suicide there even though everyone knows he was murdered and his body was left at the fort.
George R — Google review
Nice little outdoor escape from the city, though you can hear cars on either Chain Bridge or the GW Parkway from any given spot. The sign indicates a circular trail around the old fort, but we never could find a trail that didn’t dead end. There are no trail markings to speak, so it’s a bit of a guessing game. It’s a good place on a hot sunny day because it’s all wooded and shade is abundant. Our little boy enjoy the cannons and had fun on the unpaved trails.

The park needs some work. There is need for a chainsaw and lawn mowers.

Battery Kemble Park, located in Washington, DC, is a historic site that served as a fortress for Union troops during the Civil War. The park features remnants of a Civil War battery with visible trenches and 100-pound Parrott rifles. Nestled in the Palisades area west of Glover Park, it offers running trails, majestic pine trees, and a grassy meadow. It's popular for sledding during snowy days and is known for its well-preserved topography.
It's a great park for hiking in the forest. Easy to moderate trails. Lots of dogs off leash and lots of poop bags scattered along the trails. Users should be more environmentally conscious.
Rubens — Google review
Love taking my dog here! Good mix of trails, but be warned most dogs are off-leash.
Juliet L — Google review
No fees to enter. Ever. However, I wish the National Park Service would mow this park on a regular basis.
Daniel J — Google review
It’s a very nice park with some lovely trails along a small stream. Unfortunately it is often overtaken by irresponsible dog owners that let their dogs off leash. A dog on a leash here is rare, and it does often feel unsafe to take small children here. Many dogs do not listen to their owners when called, so this is an accident waiting to happen.
Alex N — Google review

Most dogs that live nearby love this place, as does ours. It’s a great park, not technically a dog park but the park rangers are pretty lenient about not having dogs leashed if no one is being bothered. One of Northwest’s better secret getaways with a nice loop for quick walk.

Chestnut Hills Park, located in the Shirlington neighborhood of Arlington, offers a unique park experience with themed play structures resembling forts and a covered picnic area with mosaic columns. Adjacent to a dog park and community garden supporting local families, the park also features an education-themed playground for toddlers and preschoolers.
Excellent shaded playground and tot lot with a small water feature that makes it one of the best spots to play outdoors in the summer. There are two well thought out play areas for different age groups with plenty of space around them for a good game of tag. Lots of tables and benches, but they are a bit old and tend to be dirty. So we always take some napkins or wipes, if we plan to eat while there. But my daughter's favorite thing to do here is to play in the small water fountain that flows into a "river" and then a sand pit/"beach" area. Take your miniature toys, beach toys, water shoes, and towel for a tiny adventure in the sand! Its shaded and the perfect outdoor activity on a hot day.

So far, the only nice park in this city where neighbors gather and kids have a blast with this sandpit area and this cute faucet that helps kids build their castles generously without being overwhelmed by these many kids around it :D I love the idea that it's the main hub for all residents here to gather and have their kids play together even if they don't know each other or even try to get to know each other. Kids' world is just miraculous in its simplicity and easy go attitude. Enjoy it and have the courage to go talk to your neighbor, maybe you'll be surprised that you have a neighbor just a couple blocks from you and can be your bestie in a snap ;) (life is so generous once you unfold your arms to its beauty 💖)

I really like this park, has two separate options for kids of different age, also has a lot of shade and the kids can play with water, they love it. There are bathrooms too. Gets busy before noon but there’s always space for you. Parking around the park gets busy too.
Leslie L — Google review
One of the best parks, if only the bathroom wasn’t so far away. But at least there is one available! My kids love it when they turn the water on over by the sand
Lydia L — Google review
Cute park. Love the gated idea especially since the road that it is on is kind of a busy street. I like that it has a bathroom but wish that it was closer to the park and not shared with the school behind it. Overall, fun for all ages because they have a smaller playground and a bigger playground. They even have a sand pit with running water.

Lovely park with a lot of play things for little ones.. many types of slides, ramps, tunnels

The sand pit has a turtle that kids can crawl under and play pretend. It’s separated into ages and the equipment keeps kids entertained for hours. My kid especially loved the curved steps (pictured) and the random toy cars left for everyone to play with.

Cherry Hill Park is a pet-friendly campground that offers endless opportunities for outdoor exploration, including access to the Appalachian Trail and thousands of miles of hiking trails. It's a great place for families with kids, as there are plenty of activities to keep them entertained. The park features well-maintained grounds and facilities, and visitors can rent pavilions for gatherings. Additionally, there's a shaded picnic area with various amenities such as playgrounds, volleyball, basketball, and tennis courts.
Great little shaded park that’s perfect for a picnic! Tables, playground, volleyball, basketball and tennis. Great big and super tall Poplar trees and Black Walnut. Enter by car by way of Little Falls Street and go behind the City Hall and the Parks and Recreation Dept. buildings. When you exit you will be on Park Avenue. This was a little confusing at first.

Great park. Big, open space to run around. Quality climbing equipment with areas for kids of all ages. 4 swings - 2 normal, 1 toddler, 1 three-point. Lots of slides, some monkey bars, spinning and rocking devices, and rope ladders. Everything is in good condition. Wood chip mulch ground cover.
David C — Google review
Cherry Hill is an AMAZING campground. I went with my mama for our Thanksgiving holiday and we had a great time. Whether you love primitive camping in your campervan or in cabin/hut this place is beautiful. The grounds are extremely well kept (to include the trash receptacles and bath houses) and the staff and the people who live on the grounds are so kind and welcoming. Additionally, I found out that there are buses that will take you into DC for transportation or tours, along with mail forwarding, food from the cafe, gas, and firewood being available for delivery to your campsite. I love Cherry Hill, so does my mama, and we’re definitely coming back. You should go too! 🍒💗

This park is an absolute gem — the beautiful woods create a peaceful, scenic atmosphere that's perfect for all kinds of visits. The walking trails are surrounded by nature and ideal for a relaxing stroll or a little adventure with the kids. It’s also a fantastic place for families to gather and celebrate special occasions. We’ve attended a few birthday parties here, and it couldn’t be a better setting — open spaces, picnic areas, and a safe, welcoming environment for children to play and enjoy. Whether you're looking to enjoy nature or host a family event, this park has it all!
Candice L — Google review
We really enjoy taking our kids here -- anything to let the toddler burn off as much energy as possible. There is so much to do there that the kids don't really get bored, which is a great cure for Cabin Fever on a nice Spring day. There are places you can rent as well -- the small pavilion rents for $15 an hour (if you're a FC resident, $25/hr if not), and the large barn-style one rents for $125/hr. The big one requires getting a permit through ABC though 🙄 There's a large field that is great for soccer or football, and a sand pit with a net for volleyball or badminton. It's free to get in, and a great way to spend an afternoon.
GPS R — Google review
We went for the first time and it was lovely. Big open spaces to run, sand in the volleyball pit to dig, awesome climbing structures, cool wooden carvings. My only concern is I like parks that are a little more clearly fenced off so it’s easier to keep track of toddlers. There was a port-a-potty.

Oak Grove Park is a new park in Arlington that features a playground, open field, and picnic pavilion. It is perfect for families to enjoy together.
Not far from Quincy Park is another public park easier to miss since it's nestled within a neighborhood. Park on the street and follow the signs for this medium-sized park. There's a track around the playground and green space that kids ride scooters and bikes on. The playground itself is built more for older kids with ropes to climb to access the slide. There's enough shade and places to sit. Sadly, there aren't restrooms.

Great park! There's a big open field for soccer or running around. Two to three at areas for kids of different ages to climb and slide, and a nice picnic pavilion. Ample street parking.
Joe P — Google review
Park has a single soccer field that kids soccer leagues to share to do their practices. There's a small gravel trail around the field that is 1/5 mile in distance. As of October 2017, there is construction going on to add 2 small playgrounds on the N Quincy Street side of the soccer field. There are no lights in the park, so when it gets dark, you can't see very well. Parking is the main issue with this park - On the 17th Street entrance of the park, there's a small gravel driveway(maybe 4 cars could park in the space) that I can't tell if it belongs to the home next to the park entrance or is for park visitors. Parking on N Quincy St looks unsafe and probably not allowed. Best bet for parking is probably 15th Street side of the park. There's space for people to park on both sides of the street. Traffic is a bit heavy at times though. There are newly constructed steps on that side of the park.

The rain garden provides educational information about runoff in an easy-to-understand manner.
Not gonna lie, this is a nice little park. The playground looks fun and the general vibe seems peaceful. Interesting story: the first time I came here was to see a community screening of Jurassic Park that was projected on that barn looking building, and considering that the forest looks way deeper at night, it was definitely a fun yet deeply unsettling experience watching Jurassic Park in what feels like the middle of the Woods

This little neighborhood playground is such a special spot — it’s our grandson’s absolute favorite place to go! It may be small, but it’s full of charm and perfectly designed for kids to enjoy. The equipment is well-kept, safe, and just the right size for younger children, which gives us peace of mind while they play. There’s a nice mix of swings, slides, and climbing areas, plus enough open space for running around or playing games. It’s usually quiet and never overcrowded, which makes it even more enjoyable. It’s become a regular stop during our visits and holds a special place in our hearts. Truly a hidden gem in the neighborhood!

The park follows the serene Pimmit Run stream for eight miles until it joins the Potomac River. This 0.7-mile trail between Great Falls Street and Olney Park is well-maintained and less crowded than other nearby parks, making it ideal for beginners, families, and dog walkers.
Went as part of a school field trip, great place! Kids loved it and even though it was hot there was so much to do no one seemed to mind.

Pimmit Hill's best kept secret! Great 0.7 mile trail along the Pimmit Run between Great Falls Street and Olney Park. Generally well maintained and downed trees are cut. I've never seen this trail crowded, unlike Scott's Run or Great Falls park. Great for beginning hikers, kids, families, dogs. Decent for runners, but watch out for those many roots that are exposed. I avoid using the trail for a day or two after a solid rain due to the many muddy areas that develop. You will have to cross the Pimmit Run itself in some areas depending on where you enter, so a hiking staff may not be a bad idea if you have balance problems. Limited parking at the Great Falls and Olney park entrances.

The park offers scenic walking trails with multiple overlooks to observe the impressive white water falls. Visitors can also explore the area's colonial history at the historic Visitors Center, which is part of the remains of the Patowmack Canal System from the late 1700s.
Great Falls Park is an absolutely stunning natural gem that’s perfect for a day trip with family or friends. The sight and sound of the roaring falls are both powerful and peaceful—nature at its best. The park is very well maintained with clearly marked trails for all skill levels. Whether you’re looking for a casual stroll or a more challenging hike, there’s something for everyone. The overlooks near the Visitor Center provide amazing photo opportunities and safe, accessible views of the falls. For more adventurous visitors, the Billy Goat Trail on the Maryland side offers a fun and rugged experience with closer views of the river and rocks. There are plenty of picnic spots, clean restrooms, and informative signs about the area’s history and geology. It’s a great place to unplug, enjoy nature, and learn a bit along the way. Parking can fill up quickly on weekends, so arriving early is a good idea. Overall, Great Falls Park is a peaceful, scenic, and energizing escape from the city. Highly recommended for hikers, photographers, and anyone who enjoys the great outdoors!

Such a beautiful park! I didn't know it was managed by the National Park Service. There is a $20.00 fee per vehicle to get in. It was well worth it! There is a visitor center, and a concession stand underneath it that sells ice cream and other treats. Lots of trails for walking. There is even areas for rock climbing, if you have the gear.

Beautiful park with stunning views of the falls! It’s a perfect spot for a short hike, photography, or just relaxing by the river. The trails are well-marked and easy to follow, and there are multiple overlooks to see the rushing water up close. Parking can get crowded on weekends, so it’s best to go early. Definitely worth the small entrance fee for such a peaceful and scenic escape so close to the city.
Akhil M — Google review
My 1St Time here. Upon arriving there is a parking fee per car. $20.00. Lots of parking and easy access to the visitor center the bathrooms and the various trails. However, I heard there are other areas where there is free parking. There are various trails you can take. The most scenic ones are by the Potomac River. There are 3x observation points. They are all great for views of the rapids. I would say the most challenging trail is the “River Trail” it has lots of treacherous rocky areas to overcome n climb. Follow the “blue “ painted markers on the trees to stay on track . This trail is obviously next to the river. If you want to get really close to the river there are various areas where u can climb down. They all require some effort of delegating the rocky areas. Go slow . I use a hiking poles as leverage. It helps. The easiest trail to walk or run on is the “Old Carriage Road”. The trail is quite long. I only accomplished 6.28M overall. About 3 hours. Which includes the stopping time for picture taking and resting to eat some fruit. The small restaurant offers burgers, pizza, hot dogs, ice cream and the largest warm salted pretzel I ever ate. Sorry I didn’t take the pic. It was good though. Enjoy the trail and the sites.

Visited Great Falls National Park after several days of heavy rain and flooding — the river was powerful and dramatic! 🌊 Some trees were down, and parts of the River Trail were blocked, so hike with caution. Still a beautiful day out, with lots of families enjoying the park, barbecuing, and making use of the grills and picnic benches. Great energy all around — just wear sturdy shoes and stay safe on the trails! 🥾🌲🔥

Paid $20 too get in i believe but was quite worth the money once you see the veiws!

Great Falls Park is a beautiful spot to enjoy nature and outdoor activities. The park features three scenic viewing platforms that offer stunning views of the Potomac River’s rushing cascades. Whether you're up for a hike or a walk, the trails have options for all skill levels. Admission is $20 per vehicle or $10 per person, but if you plan to visit often, the annual pass for $35 is a great deal. There's also the America the Beautiful Pass for $80, which grants access to multiple national parks and federal recreation sites. Overall, it’s a great place to spend a day outdoors, whether you're looking for adventure or just a peaceful escape.

I’ve filmed so many school projects and music videos in this field. I wish they wouldn’t have turned it into a nature preserve/stopped cutting ALL of the grass. It used to be such a nice, open field! Be careful in the tall grass area because I’m sure it’s full of ticks, etc. Also be careful at night - I’ve seen many foxes walking through there!

This afternoon, when my daughter and I entered this area, wanting to have a walk on the trail, I saw a sign said "Firearms prohibitted" near the parking space, it felt a little weird to me, but I didn't give any further thought. We walked into the Preserve along the trail paved by the falling leaves. I could hear no sound but the noise of us stepping on the leaves. I was hoping to see a bird, a hare, a squirrel or a deer, but I saw none of them except many towering and falling dead tree trunks in this early winter time. After about a ten-minute walk, I felt a little bored, hoping to see the exit soon. Just at that time, I looked up to the front, and saw something turned away from about ten meters away----a back of an animal of the size of a fatter deer but with a big fluffy tail in the color of a squirrel! All of a sudden, I realized that the figure I glimpsed just now was a WOLF! I turned around quickly, calling my daughter to run together with me. As fast as we could, we found the nearest outlet to the street. Luckily, it seemed nothing had happened when we got out of the jungle. The residents nearby were strolling, running and walking their dogs just as usual. Out of my expectation, I encountered another side of the nature! I couldn't calm down until we got back into my car and melted into the traffic flow! Be watchful of the wolf!
