Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Nestled on the picturesque Takeshima Island, Yaotomi Shrine is a hidden gem that embodies tranquility and beauty. This sacred site, dedicated to the goddess of good fortune, safety, and marriage, invites visitors to cross a long footbridge from Gamagori—a journey believed to bring luck for couples. The island itself is small yet enchanting; you can easily explore its serene surroundings in about two hours.
Beautiful, unique local spot! Very small island... only need about 2 hours to arrive, walk there, relax, walk up to the shrine and them around the island and back to the mainland. Excellent and easy day trip from Nagoya. And lots of little local noodle places to choose from. Take your Google translate. Very little English spoken out here.
Kashmere F — Google review
Cross the bridge then you can visit this shrine on the small island. Going around the island is pleasant. Pine trees are splendid.

Beautiful shrine on an island accessible by a bridge. Although small, we spent 2 hours in the island, dipping our feet in the sea and enjoying the view
Lola H — Google review
It's a beautiful place to visit but there are a lot of stairs and a lot of climbing. So make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
Stay C — Google review
It is easy to reach this island by JR train at Gamagori station. There is a shrine famous for the eight-luck gods.

Love this place! Perfect to escape from the summer heat & spend time in the nature. Love the view from the island. The ocean is so clean.

Nestled in the picturesque city of Gamagori, Aichi Prefecture, Laguna Ten Bosch is a vibrant marine resort that promises an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages. Just a short drive from the Takeshima Aquarium, this recreational haven boasts an array of attractions including thrilling rides, a sprawling water park perfect for families, and serene hot springs to unwind after a day of fun. The venue also features shopping outlets and various events throughout the year.
It's one of the best winter illuminations I've ever seen.. ❤️ it's really beautiful. There is also a kid's park where the kids can enjoy the rides, a food stands & a souvenir shops & game center. The entrance is not so expensive.
Lesorie B — Google review
Small park, fun rides but recommended for children. There's an entire section just for small kids with small rides. The food from food trucks was good and the people are nice, and most ride explanations were thorough and enthusiastic. If you get the full day passport, you can also ride the ferris wheel in the shopping center area, and the view is very nice from the top of the ferris wheel. (Night time illuminations are very nice seen from above, probably a good place for couples)

After a long bicycle ride into a headwind, a quick google search showed this place existed and I knew I had to go. Who doesn't want a robot to check you in..... The staff at reception were amazing, the staff went out of their way to help ( everything is done online.. and I totally messed things up) The room was super clean and the ambience of the place made my inner child scream with delight.... The restraunt was awesome, breakfast was good too.. if your in the area, this place is good... If you have kids.... Go.
Scott M — Google review
Beautiful theme park! The place may be for kids but don't let that stop you because you can definitely enjoy it as an adult. There were lots of attractions and rides and the illumination at night was mesmerizing. Aqua Wind was the best. The ferry's wheel at sunset is a must do. Everything was just fun fun fun! But i tell you, never miss Le NoiReve!!! It was short but it was pure magic! I felt like I was on another realm. It was the highlight of my visit. I loved it! We got the adult pass, 4350yen.
Vence G — Google review
A nice and quiet ferris wheel ride. A verity of sea food restaurants, shopping mall, yatch ride, amusement park, photo illusion gallery, and much more. I won't recommend everyday shopping from here because the prices are very high but the gift shop is very good, i would definitely recommend shopping in the gift shop, has a large variety of scented candles, candle stands, mental pieces, decoration pieces, cookies, and much more. Many good restaurants on the sea side. I had the best sea food dish till now. Good for all ages. A great weekend getaway.
Asma I — Google review
Pretty small scale amusement park. ¥2,150 park entrance fee. The individual ride costs too much, so if you plan on riding anything you would want to just purchase the passport. Since the park is so small and the rides are very short, you don’t really need an entire day to go through the whole park. The after 4 pm discount ticket for ¥3,350 with unlimited rides is more than sufficient. The flower park and illumination shows at night are nice. If you only want to enjoy the night scenery the entrance fee ticket alone may be sufficient. Free shuttle from the Gamagoori station to the park is convenient for those who are not driving. This place is quite empty on weekdays and non public holidays. I went on a weekday with 0-min wait time for every single ride. Overall, good amusement park for the locals (family with kids or couples); if you are a foreign visitor with limited amount of time, definitely visit places like USJ or Tokyo Disneyland instead.
X-tina — Google review
This place is great. Very underrated. Amazing staff really went out of there way to help us (non-Japanese speakers) out. A very scenic area too. If you are traveling in Japan with a rental car, I would not hesitate to drop by Gamigori and this theme park for a day or 2. Great fun for kids of all ages.

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
Nestled in Gamagori City, the Takeshima Aquarium is a charming destination that may be compact in size but boasts an impressive collection of marine life. Established in 1956, this aquarium showcases over 450 species, making it one of Japan's most diverse aquatic experiences. Visitors can marvel at fascinating creatures like tiger sharks and Japanese spider crabs while enjoying engaging sea lion performances.
When I visited Gamagori , I knew it’s a port city so the aquarium there will be awesome but it really exceeded my expectations !! There were many fishes that I saw for the first time❤️ it’s one of my happy days . I enjoyed watching jellyfish like SpongeBob 😆 and the seal show was amazing. I enjoyed every bit of it . Also I loved how the tanks were big and clean and the fishes were well fed and looked happy to me 🫰🏻
M S — Google review
I recently visited the aquarium after its renewal and would recommend prebooking tickets to avoid longer lines, although we only had to wait about 10-15 minutes. The experience lasted around 2 to 3 hours, and while we didn’t catch any of the shows offered, they may extend your visit if you choose to attend them. The aquarium features a wide variety of marine life, including crabs, fish, sharks, and other aquatic species, which adds to the overall experience. Overall, it was enjoyable, and the ticket prices are very reasonable considering what you get to see. Both kids and adults can have a great time here. The facility offers parking and is wheelchair accessible, with a relatively short walking area that is suitable for seniors and families with toddlers. The staff was exceptionally friendly and polite, enhancing our visit. This new experience is certainly an improvement compared to the previous setup before the renewal, and I highly recommend it. As a tip, I suggest arriving early and bringing your own food. You can enjoy a lovely picnic after exploring the aquarium. Additionally, there's a park behind it where you can relax, take a stroll across the bridge, and visit Take Island. This could make for a delightful day out!
Erica Y — Google review
Local aquarium, not big, can explore everything within an hour. Have lots of crabs and other shellfish exhibitions. The posters are all hand-written, so you can see how devoted the staff is! Some tanks are too small for the fish already, so I felt a bit sad. The baby capybaras were so cute!
Mx!! B — Google review
Very nice small aquarium! There were even frequent benches until about the halfway point. However, from that point until the exit, even outside the exit, there are no seats anywhere to accommodate those with bad feet, legs, or back. But overall, it was a very nice visit.
Ethel W — Google review
I get to touch sharks and isopods which was cool. Unfortuanely it is a very small aquarium that doesn't justify the 1200 yen admission for out of town visitors. Locals pay 500 yen which is a price that makes a lot more sense. I really don't like this practice of counter-tourism and it feels terrible to see the solo depressed sea lion trapped inside a tiny enclosure
Terry C — Google review
It's beautiful and fun to see the fish and other animals, but the capybara is injured and malnourished. Please help. It's too crowded and there are not many animals, I'm bored too ;( not bad 🥰
Empi — Google review
Staff nice saw green long lines after the show took about 2 hours just to to get to subway recommended a cab once you wait an hour to get to the road I saw many people leaving 30 minutes before show was finished. I can see why.
Maiky M — Google review
Fun and educational aquarium. Good cost performance considering that admission is only ¥500 / person. There are a few interactive areas where visitors can touch / feed some of the sea creatures. Displays available in Japanese only; but they are very fun and educational to read if you speak the language. Nice aquarium for young children. - Very small aquarium - Sea lion shows on weekdays - Expect to spend about an hour at the aquarium - 15-min walk away from the Gamagori Station - Not very crowded on weekdays

Nestled on a hillside, Gamagori Orange Park is a delightful destination for fruit lovers and families alike. This charming orchard features greenhouses where visitors can indulge in the joy of picking their own strawberries, melons, and oranges. The experience of selecting fresh produce right from the source adds an extra layer of enjoyment to your visit. After a day spent harvesting delicious fruits, you can unwind at one of the nearby hotels that cater to travelers seeking comfort and convenience.
Had the orange picking with seafood buffet. Worth the price for the unlimited scallops and oysters!! The building is quite dull, outdated, and depressing(looks more like a factory from the outside) but the overall experience was satisfactory. It was a fun activity. The picking spot changes and is not within the premises but there is a carpool that will send you off and pick you up.
Gazelle — Google review
If you like oranges, those Mandarin oranges, you will surely love this place. This place is our very first visited attraction after touching down in Nagoya. About slightly over an hour drive from the Chubu Airport, we came here for fruit picking that is oranges that are in season. Admission fee was 1000-1100yen and we could freely eat as many oranges in the park as we want and also fill up a plastic bag of oranges and take home. We had fruit picked before but first time with oranges. Love the fragrance of the fruits! But be careful when you walk through the farm, there were lots of rotten oranges on the ground with insects around. It will be good if they can provide a pair of scissors to cut the oranges instead of plucking them that may harm the trees and causing wastage due to the falling of the oranges! The farm was huge with hundreds of orange trees, mostly fruiting and we ate to our heart's content. It was awesome! And the oranges were very juicy and sweet, freshly plucked from the trees! Afterwhich, we dropped by at the retail store next door to enjoy our free ice cream. It was so creamy and flavourful! And visitors can also pickup a great number of orange related items like orange jam or candies, pastries and other types of food items. And you can also have a meal in the cafeteria on the upper floor where they serve good local dishes too. It was a fun and interesting activity!
Ed C — Google review
We came here to pick 'Mikan' they were so good and fresh and we had a very good time on the field. We didn't have a reservation but they let us in anyway. Also the souvenirs we got were great. We had ice cream in the end, the best one was the mixed flavor Mikan with vanilla! Make sure you speak some Japanese as they barely speak English :) we had no problem and the staff was nice.
Nina C — Google review
Unlimited Orange picking and eating. No toilets at farm. So , you can not eat much. Parking is free. Farm is bit far from ticket counter. Book in advance to avoid waiting. Cards are accepted. Cash free travel.
Upesh P — Google review
Excellent place to enjoy fruits through out the year. Originally known for oranges, they have strawberries, melon, grapes. They have a small restaurant where they serve a grand course lunch. They have quick gifts buy-outs which are quite unique.
Kidambi N — Google review
From February to beginning of May you can go to this Orange park and pay for a ticket to pluck and eat strawberries for 30mins. Eating ripe strawberries is an experience, it’s feels like the fruit just turn into liquid in your mouth. If you do not drive, it’s not easy to go to this place from Gamagori station. You need to pay about $1800 yen for a taxi to go from Gamagori station to the Orange park. It takes about 45mins to walk 3.2km from the Gamagori station to the Orange park. At other times, you can go to the Orange park to pluck oranges.
Kin ( — Google review
Best place to pick the oranges . We can eat all you want and carry one full little basket of oranges with you too.

The Seaside Literary Memorial Museum is a tribute to the Ryokan Tokiwakan, a cherished traditional Japanese inn situated on the Takeshima shoreline. This establishment showcases various wooden embellishments alongside exquisite china and pottery utilized in the former hotel. Additionally, there is a replica of an authentic tea room that provides enchanting views of the sea, where visitors can enjoy a refreshing cup of Matcha green tea or coffee.
A beautiful seaside Museum attached with the Traditional Japanese🇯🇵Garden, where you may directly look to Takeshima Island🌊⛩️ Surprisedly I found two ancient well-known Chinese Novels: Three Kingdoms; Liu Bang, who is the Founding Emperor of Han Dynasty, China🇨🇳

(Translated by Google) A facility where you can send a letter 10 years in the future. Be careful, as the reception desk will close if you don't arrive an hour before closing time!! (Translated by Google) It was as if time had stood still. An incredibly quiet space, far removed from the noise of modern times. When I heard that great literary figures had frequented this place, I didn't really understand, but when I actually visited, I understood. This place is not a place to "forget" the passage of time, but a place to "face" it. It's a quiet, intense, and gentle place. If you go, do it alone.
Rionex — Google review
(Translated by Google) There were quite a few tourists there, so I felt a bit embarrassed to take photos everywhere. However, I recommend visiting here before heading to Takeshima Island, as reading the historical references here will give you a better understanding of the historical context. When you arrive at Takeshima Island, you'll be intrigued by the magnificent buildings on the opposite mountaintop, but there's no information on the island itself.

Theme park
Lagunasia is a popular amusement park located in a coastal town in Aichi prefecture, Japan. It is part of the larger Laguna Gamagori resort complex situated in the Bay of Mikawa. The park offers various rides, attractions, swimming pools, and well-known roller coasters. Visitors can also explore other components of the complex such as Laguna Hotel, Laguna Spa, Festival Market for shopping, and Laguna Marina for marine sports.
We had a great visit here. I highly recommend this theme park. Between the "lagoon" and the rides you could spend a full day or two. The Gamagori area is nice too. A really scenic seaside location. The service went above and beyond. Thank you to Murano-san for taking at least 30 minutes to help us English-speaking tourists through a Japanese-heavy event. My daughter loved the Demon slayer special summer event, and it was really the reason we drove down to Gamagori. But, having been there, I would not hesitate to go again, special event or not. If you rent a car, or just want to escape the usual Tokyo/Kyoto tourist spots check this place out. And not for nothing, as a value proposition, this place blows US theme parks out of the water. Admission is less than half the price, almost no waiting in lines (on a weekend in late July) and kids would not be bored. We had a splendid time.
Alex S — Google review
You paid again, and even as an adult, who is visiting the children site, then you pay for each ride, then you pay for the events, then you pay for some particularly horrible food. It is so overpriced. I do not understand the fascination. My grandchildren had a wonderful time. I on other hand spent way more than I should have for never having stepped in a ride. I skipped one of the events because they actually charged for adults to go in and watch their children play. It seemed excessive. ¥990 for a balloon.
Veronica C — Google review
Lovely experience. Spectacular water and fireworks. The lights are amazing as well. This was Christmas Day 2021.
Tiffani B — Google review

The Takeshima Fantasy Museum is a one-of-a-kind gallery showcasing stunning art pieces crafted from seashells. Visitors can also enjoy a serene carp pond and explore the souvenir shop. The museum offers an immersive experience with a short adventure story associated with the exhibition, featuring unique animated characters in a fantasyland setting. Guests are invited to take on a challenge to find hidden pictures throughout the exhibit for a small gift at the end.
We visited in weekdays so there is fewer people so we enjoyed with plenty of time. It’s wonderful and beautiful. You can’t stop to capture the picture in every corner. Entry fees is ¥1000 for adult and 500 to elementary students and 300 for kindergarten students and free for under 3 years. Small place but very beautiful.
Traveler — Google review
A strong 4 star review. Plenty of car park space and fresh food available across the road, delicious! The attraction is centred around creations with shells. There is a short adventure story associated with the exhibition including video footage of animated characters unique to the fantasyland. At the entrance a leaflet is provided with a challenge...find the hidden pictures and get a small gift at the end! A collection of various pieces provide different ways of interacting with the exhibition. A room near the end provides further educational experiences. The shop also has some nice souvenirs / gifts. The initial fee may seem a little high to some people but ultimately I say it's worth the experience. Support small local businesses! Perhaps not 5 star for me as I don't exactly love it but I do very much like it. It's child friendly and provides a great place whether it's rainy or dry.
James C — Google review
A sort of museum - attraction thing where everything is made of shells, and they really commit to the bit. When I heard about it I thought it’d be a kind of funny kitsch low budget place but clearly a lot of planning and care went into putting the place together, the models and decorations are genuinely impressive. Staff were all very nice too. There’s a bingo game you can play where you have to find various numbered cards hidden throughout the museum and you get a little trinket at the end. Great for a family day out.
Duckbutcher — Google review
1000 yen for adult. A lot of parking. They use 5000k shells for the museum. They have a story to attract people. I think this museum is unique but because of location it is not popular. I put 4 stars to become more popular.
K H — Google review
A museum of exhibits made with shells. Very colorful and the details of the exhibits were impressive. Looks like it is popular among young couples but Adults can enjoy it too. The description of various shells is only in Japanese. The entrance ticket is a bit expensive but probably justifiable in order to sustain this place.
Vinayak B — Google review
I found this place had a lot of potential with very creative ideas and rare shells on display. I know it may sound contradictory, but I'm not a big fan of selling shells in the souvenir shop. That's where my environmental awareness and my artistic sense are actually fighting against each other. I felt ok seeing something artistic made from nature, but I don't think removing shells from the beach and selling them for souvenir purposes at an individual level should be encouraged.
Human B — Google review
Fantastic experience Incredible displays Worth visiting for any age
Jay D — Google review
I've never seen so many shells used as art before. Truly impressive. The collecting stamps was a little easy but I assume it's not meant for adults. Nevertheless I received my reward. I enjoyed the presentation with the story.

Katahara Onsen - Ajisai no Sato is a lakeside resort situated in Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture. It's renowned for its hot springs and the beautiful summer hydrangea garden, which features approximately 50,000 flowers that bloom every May. The Hydrangea Festival takes place from June 1st to June 30th each year and draws around 100,000 visitors.
何年ぶり or it's been 30yrs since i last saw a firefly. im glad that my son was able to experience seeing these incredible insects light up the forest for the first time. fireflies are extremely sensitive to light pollution and artificial light at night so please stop flashing light when you go for watching them. many people have fond memories of chasing lightning bugs when they were a kid and i wish these insects thrive so that the future generations can still enjoy this magical experience.
Megumi S — Google review
A small hill full of hydrangeas in full bloom—absolutely gorgeous! Seeing these flowers in different varieties is so refreshing. Their perfect details make them look like they were intricately drawn or crafted. The place was a bit crowded, though that might be because I went on a Sunday. Access was quite challenging since Google Maps didn’t suggest a bus to the nearest stop, so I had to walk all the way up. Plus, it was super hot and humid. But luckily, on my way down, I found a bus going straight to Gamagori Station. Google Maps doesn’t seem to have that updated, probably because the bus only runs during hydrangea season. So next time, if you plan to visit, try checking for a seasonal bus from Gamagori Station—don’t make the same mistake I did! 😉

Not much to see here although it's a really nice place. The first and second levels have no entry fee, but the third level's fee is about ¥500. The exhibition now is about dinosaur fossils which I'm apathetic about.

(Translated by Google) I was surprised to see that there were so many touch panels and microscopes that made it fun to sit and learn, rather than just walking around and looking at the exhibits. This is a facility where you can spend some time enjoying with your elementary school children and grandchildren. It's close to APiTA, so I think it might be a good idea to stop by while shopping. However, it is difficult to distinguish between paid and free I always thought it was a paid facility, but it seems that only some exhibition corners are chargeable. (Translated by Google) I visited for the first time to give a lecture. The first thing that caught my eye was the unique, futuristic design of the building. It's exciting to look at it from the outside, but it's even more captivating once inside, with a large spiral staircase towering over a high-ceilinged, open space. At the top of the staircase, you're treated to a close-up view of the face of a plesiosaur, a sight that stopped me in my tracks. The "Mosasaurus Exhibition" was being held at the time of my visit, and the full skeleton and explanatory exhibits were fascinating—a must-see for dinosaur and prehistoric creature lovers. In addition, the paid exhibition space on the third floor featured numerous meteorites and fossils. I believe it's rare to find a facility where you can see so many real fossils up close at once. There are also plenty of workshops and interactive exhibits for children, and every effort was made to keep visitors entertained while learning. This is a truly wonderful facility, recommended not only for those interested in science and natural history, but also for architecture enthusiasts.

(Translated by Google) Hello! This time, I will introduce Lovers Hill 😊 (Information current as of July 2025) [Overview] Lovers Hill is an observation deck located just a short distance from the giant statue of Kobo Daishi at Kongoji Temple on Mount Mitani Kobo. The Gamagori City Tourism Association also introduces it as a "sacred place for lovers," and the sunset and night view over Mikawa Bay are particularly popular . ①[Location and Access] The address is 1-14 Minamiyama, Mitani-cho, Gamagori-shi, just a short distance from Kongoji Temple. By car, it is about 20 minutes from the Tomei Otowa Gamagori IC, and there is a free parking lot for 20 cars near the observation deck . By public transportation, it is about a 7-minute taxi ride or a 25-30-minute walk from JR Mikawa Mitani Station. The roads are relatively well maintained and easy to access. ②[Facilities and Services] The observation deck has a fence where you can hang a "love lock" and a small "love bell" that you can ring with your wishes. Padlocks and heart-shaped plates can be purchased at the Mitani Onsen Tourist Association or nearby accommodations. The area is lit up from sunset to 9 p.m., and illuminations are added during the Christmas season. ③【Sights and Attractions】 • Sunset time: The contrast between the golden Mikawa Bay and the blue moment is outstanding. • Night view spot: With a panoramic view of Gamagori city center and Mikawa Bay, it's the perfect atmosphere for a date. • Love item experience: Whether you ring the bell or lock the vows on the fence, it's the perfect memory for couples. • Reviews: Many highly rated, including "A sacred place for lovers," "The combination of the sunset and the bell is the best," and "It looks great in photos." ⸻ In summary, Lover's Hill is a viewing spot filled with healing and romance that you can stop by after a drive or a hot spring. It's a great night trip for a date to see the night view or Christmas. Sharing the moment of your vows by ringing the bells in a quiet and calm atmosphere will be an unforgettable experience. The Gamagori Citizens Gymnasium Center has undergone a significant transformation, completing renovations in August 2021 that have revitalized the space. With two tennis courts converted into a spacious parking lot, visitors can enjoy ample room upon arrival. The gym now boasts modern features such as LED lighting and updated basketball goals, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere for sports enthusiasts. Air conditioning ensures comfort during workouts or events, making it an ideal venue even in the summer heat.
Although some areas are still old, the parking lot has been expanded and the gym has been reborn as a bright and comfortable gym with air conditioning. It's also easier to use the toilet. Sunday: 8:30 am to 9:30 pm Monday: 8:30 am to 9:30 pm Tuesday: 8:30 am to 9:30 pm Wednesday: 8:30 am to 9:30 pm Thursday: 8:30 am to 9:30 pm Friday: 8:30 am to 9:30 pm Saturday: 8:30 am to 9:30 pm

(Translated by Google) I used it for kendo tournaments this summer and fall. I had heard that the venue would be hot before the coronavirus outbreak, but it was air-conditioned and was very cool and comfortable in the summer. The toilets have also been renovated. The parking lot has a spacious space for one car, and the asphalt is still clean.

(Translated by Google) Regarding the women's training room, there are only two machines for aerobic exercise and walking training, and they are very popular, so you have to wait in line to use them. There is only one machine for other aerobic exercises, so they are hard to use. I wish they would increase the number of machines. There are a few types of strength training machines for women, but they are available. They cost 200 yen, so it can't be helped, but compared to other cities, the equipment seems quite old-fashioned.

(Translated by Google) Renovation work will be completed in August 2021, We converted two tennis courts into a parking lot, making it quite spacious. The floor is no longer made of wood, so you can't hear the sound of someone playing basketball next to you. The lighting is also LED, making it feel brighter. The basketball goal has also been updated and air conditioning equipment has been installed. The toilets are also clean. Elevator is also available. About 20 minutes walk from the station The exterior is old, but the architecture is interesting. A martial arts hall and a sumo hall are located on the same site, and the parking lot is shared. There is a high stage with two basketball courts, and gallery seats on the second floor. I can't go all the way around.

(Translated by Google) There's no air conditioner, so it's hot in the summer. In addition to the parking lot at the venue, there are temporary parking lots scattered throughout the event, so those going to the tournament should check the map on the Gamagori City website in advance.
