Modern European restaurant
Restaurant
Kampo by Chef Julio Pereira is a modern restaurant with outdoor seating and an open kitchen, offering sustainable and elevated dishes. Located in Funchal, Portugal, the restaurant provides a unique dining experience with a focus on seafood and meatier options. Chef Julio Pereira's creative menu includes fish charcuterie boards, braised tuna with razor clam rice, grouper carpaccio with nori, as well as other innovative dishes.
We booked the restaurant and very happy with the service. We had restricted vegetarian dietary and the restaurant made our dining experience very smooth and attention to detail. We had mushrooms, seaweed rice and grill vegetables for our vegetarian friends. We also had the Ox belly tacos, Tbone steaks and chips on the side. All of our dishes are delicious with Dark chocolate desserts. Thank you for your lovely service. We had an amazing time.

This upmarket restaurant offers both à la carte and a chef’s sharing menu. We opted for the latter. The tuna course was a bit on the strong, fishy side for our taste and, unfortunately, contained a small scale. The second dish was pleasant, though the many components made it hard to identify each element. The absolute highlight of the evening was the oxtail – beautifully cooked, with a rich, flavorful sauce, well-prepared vegetables, and smooth mashed potatoes. Truly excellent! Dessert combined white chocolate, passionfruit, brownie, and a black olive sauce. The olive pairing wasn’t to our taste, though that may be personal preference. If the dishes were refined a touch more and the presentation elevated, this place could really shine. Service was friendly and attentive, the pacing of the dinner was spot-on, and the atmosphere was lovely. 📍 Tip: Situated right in the center of Funchal. If you’d like to explore it for yourself, make a reservation in advance.

I’m absolutely thrilled! A must-visit place for dinner. The whole chain of these restaurants is great, but we chose this one for our last evening in Madeira — and it was the perfect decision. There were five of us, and my friend and I ordered the “To Share” menu for two — six dishes for €98. I can’t even describe how delicious and satisfying it was. Each dish was unique in presentation, balance, and taste. For that price, such a tasting menu for two is truly exceptional. Thank you for the perfect ending to our vacation!
Vladislava L — Google review
The T‑Bone steak here was solid and above average, juicy and cooked well, but don’t get your hopes up for that classic American steakhouse experience; it’s just not quite there in terms of quality and richness. The real MVP was the oxtail ravioli. The rich gravy that stole the show. Service was so-so—had to ask the waiter three times for the bill before someone actually showed up, which knocked a star off in my book. After this meal I started to realize most restaurants in Portugal are not going to live up to the Google rating, not to mention the price. You're better off grabbing something quick and continue site-seeing.
Blake J — Google review
My partner and I visited this restaurant three times within a single week — and for good reason. The overall experience was consistently excellent. I ordered the beef burger with foie gras, which was outstanding: perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and beautifully balanced. As a starter, we shared a tuna tartare that was truly exceptional — fresh, refined, and expertly seasoned. When we first arrived without a reservation, we were asked to wait at the bar. The host handled the situation with remarkable professionalism and kindness, and we were seated within about twenty minutes. The cocktails were also excellent, crafted with real attention to detail. Overall, an exceptional dining experience — both in terms of food and service. Highly recommended
Luca H — Google review
The place was just okay. It was quite noisy, and the steak was overcooked (asked for medium, but it came closer to well done), and the meat quality could be better. The ravioli was actually very good. Overall, it’s not a bad place — worth visiting once, but not something I’d rush back to.
David B — Google review
We were sat at the bar top where the chefs prepare the food which was amazing. It was great to see how much compassion the workers have into making and preparing the food. The food itself was pretty good. We got the dry aged ribeye to split. We asked for medium, but came out a bit more rare, it was very good either way. The steak came with fries, a tomato and onion salad, and pickles. The service was ok. The hostess did mention that I had a birthday, The waitress did not which is ok But still would’ve been nice since it was on the reservation. No birthday dessert or option was offered, but I do realize a lot of places don’t do it so that is not taking away from the rating. The hostess and bussers were fabulous and nice But the waitress had an attitude the entire time and was very confusing. She first Was upset that we weren’t ordering an appetizer and saying we would be hungry and was trying to push bread on us and then after when we wanted to ribeye, she was pushing for us to only get one due to the size and that we would be too full(Which was fine because it was big and we saved money but we easily could’ve finished two) And then once we picked one dinner, she then was upset we didn’t order an appetizer again. It might just be her personality, but a bit more hospitality goes a long way. We were uncomfortable after the initial interaction And had no interest in ordering a dessert after(which she also was upset over). Overall, great atmosphere and food, just not great server. Ps we got the mango mojito and cinnamon Caipirinha were both good and reasonably priced.
Jessica B — Google review
We had dinner at Kampo and chose the Chef’s Table experience — highly recommended, but be sure to book in advance, as it’s essential! The food was excellent — the ravioli was delicate and full of flavor, and the dessert (something called White) was a beautiful surprise, both visually and in taste. The wine selection was great, perfectly complementing the dishes. We also ordered cocktails, but unfortunately, they didn’t live up to the rest of the experience. One small service hiccup: we asked for the cocktails to come before the meal, but they arrived almost simultaneously with the food. That said, the service overall was very professional and attentive. The atmosphere is very modern and stylish, and the experience is full of unexpected flavor combinations that truly surprise and delight. Would I recommend Kampo? 100%. It’s a must-visit spot in Madeira if you’re into creative cuisine and a refined dining experience.

Restaurante Lá ao Fundo is a must-visit in Funchal's Old Town, offering a unique gastronomic experience with its fusion of Mediterranean, European, Portuguese, and modern cuisine. The restaurant boasts a welcoming and laid-back ambiance that makes diners feel at home.
This was the last restaurant we ate at in Maderia and to our aurprise it was By far the best restaurant we ate in Madeira. All the places we ate at were good, but this one was beyond expectations. The mix of Portugese, Indian, and African flavors made every entree we ordered exquisite. Our family was so satisified with the meal that we decided to skip our dinner so we could savor and enjoy this meal longer. We loved every place we ate in Maderia, but this place I will absolutely come back to. We enjoyed the sea bass stew with red rice, the sea bream, tuna tartar

Guys, it’s amazing! Best what we tested in Madeira in a week. Very tasty, very well served. Reasonable price, a bit higher than average. Try whatever they propose you! All the food was great!!!

Good food. Complimentary Thai fish soup is pretty good. Some interesting fusion dish. Huge portion for the mains. The special dessert is pretty nice, light and fresh. Service is great.

Fantastic place to eat if you have no teeth! The service is total overkill, too many waiters for a single table never saw the face twice. I ordered ham,egg and chips as per the menu when it arrived the man proceeded to dice up my meal into baby food right in front of me (it would have been quicker if he just used a blender!) When someone asked me how my food was and I complained he proceeded to tell me “that’s how its ment to be served, would you like a desert” Won’t be returning in a hurry

Higher-end restaurant with a corresponding higher price-tag. Nice setting in "downtown" area - the place to be for an evening out. Many high quality dishes. Still, some smaller hiccups: the didn't ask how to cook the tuna and the risotto was not creamy but a bit watery. Therefore, "only" 4 stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟
Al H — Google review
One of the best restaurants in Madeira. Jaime and his brother Mario run it smoothly and kindly, always trying to fit in last minute parties even though it's normally fully booked. Sitting outside is nice and calm, menu is very different with colorful and tasty creations with African and Indian influence, combined with traditional classics like steak on a hot rock. Tartars - steak or fresh tuna - are a must, as Jaime does them live for all to see.
DJ — Google review
Excellent food with a sort of fusion concept. We had a tuna tartare to start off which was served on poppadoms. Then we had a Mozambique style prawn curry which was delicious but I was slightly outraged there were only 3 prawns swimming in a pool of curry. The samosas for starters were also very tasty. Restaurant tries to be more upscale which was nice. However one of the waitresses was particularly rude along the night. Enjoyed and would return; a nice change to typical Madeiran food. Paid 40€ per person for starters, main and drinks which was very decent.

My husband and I ate here on our last night visiting Madeira in early July. Initially, we were charmed by the outdoor setting and lovely music. We were seated at a table that had an impossible glare of the sun, although we asked could the umbrella be tilted, we were told no and advised to leave if we were unhappy. We stuck it out as the food appeared nice. However, it soon became clear that the staff and main chef/manager were far more interested in looking after more exclusive customers. It at times appeared to be a very strange showcase of attention and confusing attitude towsrds customers. After a long wait at our seats to order and after several times trying to seek staff attention, a lovely young waiter served us. We observed the main chef/ manager shout directions/ instructions to him and other stuff at times, in front of costumers, some appeared embarrassed. Overall, tasty food but a strange atmosphere. Far nicer and more authentic restaurants elsewhere in Madeira.

Located in Funchal, Portugal, Akua is a renowned dining spot celebrated for its exceptional seafood. Chef Julio Pereira showcases his innovative take on Portuguese flavors with dishes like fried codfish tacos, white fish ceviche, and mussels in Jaipur sauce. The restaurant has garnered praise and was honored with a Tripadvisor Travellers Choice award. Additionally, it is featured on the menus of popular local establishments such as Gaviao Novo and La ao Fundo.
This is the second restaurant in Madeira that I highly recommend. I skipped their main and tried most of their appetizers/starters. They were so good that I kept ordering different ones and filled myself up with just those. All the starters has a balanced flavor profile except the dessert. The dessert had a lot going on. It was good but too complex and very rich. Overall this meal was a solid bang for the buck. The group seated next to me was revisiting the restaurant after trying it the day before- that is how much they loved it and I get it. I highly recommend.

Last minute reservation and sat at the Chef’s table and had a fun dinner. Amazing watching the chef work and orchestrate his masterpieces. Loved it all! Had shrimp curry in a decadent curry sauce, fresh bread to eat the sauce! Shared a 2 pp grouper over seafood rice. The grouper was plentiful and so yummy. Such a great vibe! A must try!

We didn't have a reservation but our tour guide recommended this place which was right behind our hotel. They were super busy but the hostess, Raquel, still accommodated us. We tried their 5 course menu for two. It was amazing!! The hostess made the experience so fantastic! One of the dishes had shellfish which I can't have and when she heard this she went to the chef and made a special one just for me. These people are really hardworking and will go above and beyond to make sure their customers have a great time and enjoy their food. I travel all around the world and I would say this place was one of the best restaurants I've been to! Def check them out if you're in the area!

Excellent dinner for solo traveler. Reservation made through google. Was seated at bar in front of head chef. Was able to view the kitchen action. Staff were attentive and friendly. They were able to accommodate the shareable starter plates for one. Food was excellent. I’d recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting Funchal.

We visited this restaurant to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and it was an absolutely perfect choice. From the bread at the beginning to the dessert at the end, every single dish was fresh and full of flavor. 🍽️ Sitting at the bar was a real treat — watching the open kitchen and the chefs at work made the evening even more special. A truly memorable dining experience!

Amazing experience!!! Loved all the dishes ❤️ It was really great that for starters I can take half of a dish, so I was able to try more of this great cuisine. Sitting on the chef’s table and seeing kitchen’s work - 🥰 To start I had tuna tartare, ceviche, prawns, for the main - tuna belly steak, everything cooked to perfection!
Viktorija Ž — Google review
The food and wine are excellent — we really liked the food a lot. The only thing I didn’t like is that the restaurant is run like a machine; it feels more about efficiency than about the food or the experience. Everything moves very quickly and it’s pretty hectic. For example, I hadn’t even sat down fully before they asked if I wanted some water. They also emphasized that we had only two hours to eat, even though we didn’t end up taking a full hour. That said, the staff became noticeably friendlier toward the end, which made the experience a bit more pleasant.

We had dinner here yesterday and chose the tasting menu, which was absolutely delicious and truly satisfying. The food was so good that we only managed to take two pictures we devoured everything else! The service was polite, attentive, and very well curated, while the atmosphere was charming and intimate. A lovely touch was that I had asked for a small surprise for my girlfriend’s birthday, and they kindly made it happen. Truly a top experience, one of the best restaurants we’ve tried abroad!

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming municipality of Câmara de Lobos, Restaurante O Polar is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Portuguese cuisine. This delightful eatery keeps things refreshingly simple with just two main offerings: perfectly grilled frango (chicken) and espetada (beef skewers). The generous portions are ideal for sharing, making it a great spot for friends or couples.
We ate at this restaurant three times during our stay in Madeira, and each time we left with a big smile. All the food was incredibly delicious — the skewer was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The homemade fries were absolutely legendary! The poncha was nice, but I thought the sangria was outstanding. The staff were very kind and helpful, which made the experience even better. If you don’t have a reservation, you’ll definitely have to wait, but trust me — it’s totally worth it!
Burcu H — Google review
Chicken over the Espetada beef skewers. It is packed at lunch with a small queue. This spot seems like an local institution. It’s known for its chicken and espetada as those are the only 2 mains on the menu so one can’t get overwhelmed. My hubby and I thought the chicken to be superior but the espetada presentation was cool with the long skewer irons hanging from the rack. However, the true star of the show and the ultimate surprise was the garlic bread. We’ve had this simple garlic bread elsewhere all over the island but I’m telling you this place has the best garlic bread so make sure you pair this with your protein you won’t be disappointed. 100% recommend this spot it’s delicious and authentic with iron skewers and open kitchen ovens. You see the traditional way of cooking espetada.
Jean D — Google review
Wow! If you’re into steak, this place is a must. Hugely popular with both tourists and locals – everyone comes here for the famous espetada (steak skewers). And yes… they’re absolutely worth it! Juicy, perfectly seasoned, and served with quick, friendly service in a simple, no-frills setting that lets the food shine. Parking can be tricky (only along the steep road), so here’s my tip: arrive about 15 minutes before opening. We did, parked right in front, and got the first table. By the time we left an hour later, the road was lined with cars and people were waiting for a spot. Pro tip: Meat lovers – come early and order the espetada! 🥩👌
Martijn — Google review
We were recommended this restaurant and i was skeptic at first… but oh boy i was wrong. Philip took good care of us, told us what to order (all the menu)… the corn… it was goood
Ahmed A — Google review
We came to Camara de Lobos specifically to try the Madeirense Espetada at O Polar. Take care that it is not in the centre and the walk there is 30 minutes and very uphill. The area surrounding the restaurant is not very friendly. They don’t take reservations you must leave your name and wait for a table. We went on a Friday and the wait was very fast. One Espetada is enough for 2 people, the meat was perfectly cooked (for those who like medium-rare), the fried corn and salad are also great additions! For dessert we had the Passion Fruit Mousse and it’s not great. The service was kind and attentive. If you’re looking for a local and regional place this is it!
Joana B — Google review
The best bolo do caco we had on the island! The staff was friendly and helpful, the food came to the table quickly (even though the restaurant was very busy), and everything was delicious!! Perfectly poured dark Coral beer.
Inês L — Google review
Tip. Go there when they first open and you’ll get a table. We got the Espetada, milho frito and fries between 2 of us was just right. Cash only. Good prices and very tasty! I recommend!
Lisa Y — Google review
Very good! Incredibly nice staff, good location, really good price and exceptional food. Very limited offer, but this is not a bad thing at all - they specialize in traditional Madeiran scewers. The only downside is that they dont accept foreigh cards, so bring cash. However, they are kind enough to let you know that when you sit down.

Fine dining restaurant
Nestled in the enchanting heart of Funchal's old town, William Restaurant is a true gem that embodies elegance and sophistication. Set within a beautifully restored 18th-century mansion, this Michelin-starred dining destination invites guests on an exquisite culinary adventure that celebrates the rich flavors of Madeira. With stunning views overlooking Porto de Funchal, diners can savor innovative dishes crafted from the finest local ingredients while enjoying a contemporary twist on traditional European cuisine.
The level of service was exceptional, marked by warmth and attentiveness. The cuisine was of the highest caliber, with an exquisite taste profile. The restaurant eschewed superfluous ornamentation, opting instead for a minimalist aesthetic. The wine pairing was both distinctive and delectable, enhancing the overall dining experience. Undoubtedly worthwhile!

Excellent food and excellent service. Exactly what you would expect from a restaurant in the michelin guide. Everything was cooked as it should be, and seasoning was spot on. Initial amuse bouches were great, the fish tartare bite was my favourite (I'm sure I would love a course built from this), and I found the apple based palet cleanser very refreshing. The trout was very nice, and while I appreciate trying to reduce waste, I think the pickle water could be used in a better way. The lobster was fantastic. The only fish course that slightly missed me was the scorpionfish, as I found the toasted yeast component a bit overpowering, but my partner enjoyed it. I think I would have been happier if the root vegetable puree was a bit sweeter. The main of pork shoulder was cooked perfectly and overall the dish was well balanced. I found the desert a fairly standard affair, but the caramel in the shape of madeira was a finish. We had an extra little cake brought to the table for an anniversary, which was a nice touch. The petite fours were also presented beautifully with the small tree and paired very well with some whisky to finish. The only thing I'd say is if you're not getting an additional drink at the end, hold back on your final pairing so you have something to go with it (coffee drinkers will be fine, but it was quite a late sit for caffeine). All the wine pairings worked well, and I enjoyed tasting slightly more unusual offerings like the sparkling cider. The restaurant itself has great views over the sea, and as night descended, we could see funchal lit up from the other side. We'll be back in Madeira, and I wouldn't hesitate to book again. These minor criticisms are a matter of taste, not a reflection on the skills of the chefs. Thank you for a lovely evening.

We had an overall good experience at William Restaurant. The service was top notch and what you would expect from a fine dining restaurant of this quality. The atmosphere was nice, with a beautiful view of the bank of the island. The restaurant was a little warm when we arrived, and it took until nearly the end of our meal for them to open up some extra windows for things to cool off. The sommelier was excellent. We are not typically wine drinkers, but he was able to find us wine that we both enjoyed that paired really well with our meal. The presentation of the food was very pretty and as you've seen in images on Google. I left three stars because the flavor left something to be desired. For the price, I had expected more. I found the lobster a bit fishy and chewy for my taste. I think the catch from their coast was parrotfish for our night (but I could be misremembering), but my first bite was a tad fishy (the rest of the dish was fine). Overall, a good experience. I probably would try somewhere else rather than go back.

I flew all the way from Canada to try William and Desarma and other restaurant. First of all i want to talk about service. I have to many micheline restaurant in the world. William is on my top about service from beginning when I enter hotel staffs were so welcome and polite they guided me to restaurant and the whole staffs of restaurant were so welcome and I feel like home right away. The view and the ambiance was A1👌. Lighting is perfect for dining but my eyes are weak I have a hard time to read the menu. So I turned flash light of my iPhone to read but I adjusted very discrete because I don’t want to bother other clients. 10 seconds later Gonçalo( waiter) came with a little flash light for me with his smile asking if I need it. All staffs were very professional but Goçalo is la cream de la cream👌 professional and always has his smile on. I love the sommeiller also he’s very professional I explained to him what I like and he got me exact wine I want. About food, I love everything of it especially their lobster dish cooked to a perfection 👌. Only 1 small problem that bothering me on my main course that the chef used the peeled skin of asparagus I believed he fried or dehydrate to garnish on my pork shoulder which was very fiber and chewy the pork and everything else was very good but that peeled skin of asparagus ruined it a bit. Cactus skin sorbet with a touch of seaweed was memorable. Chocolate mousse with lemon sorbet also nice mix. Thank you very much for memorable dinner to whole staffs and chefs👏. I’ll come back with more friends very soon.

We celebrated our 10th Anniversary with a date at this restaurant. Had a great experience. Great culinary delights served with a smile and insights into the local tradition and culture. My wife had the Vegan menu and I had the smaller William menu with the wine pairing. Given how small each course looks, we were both left wondering how we were so stuffed at the end of the meal. Would definitely recommend!

Dining at William Restaurant Madeira was an unforgettable experience — truly worthy of its Michelin star. From start to finish, everything was phenomenal. Our server, Cindy, was exceptional — attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate, which elevated the entire evening. The service matched the stunning setting perfectly. We enjoyed the Chef’s tasting menus (Discovery and William), and every course was a masterpiece — beautifully presented, balanced, and full of flavor. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves, but words can’t fully capture the artistry and care behind each dish. If you’re in Madeira, William is a must for a world-class culinary experience.

The menu is a testament to the chef’s visionary commitment to local ingredients. Every dish tells a story of the region, with flavors that feel both grounded and innovative. Each plate arrives as a piece of art, meticulously crafted, showcasing the beauty of seasonal, locally sourced produce. The chef’s dedication to honoring local flavors is evident in every bite, elevating even the simplest ingredients to something truly extraordinary. A special mention goes to the sommelier, whose expertise added a magical touch to the evening. With a deep knowledge of local wines and an approachable, friendly manner, they crafted pairings that were perfect complements to each course. The explanations were both insightful and engaging, allowing us to appreciate the subtle notes in each glass. very recommend

Amazing food and wine combinations! The chef proposed unusual combinations that are completely spot on for a delicious and unforgettable dinner! The service staff made the dinner even more enjoyable, creating a familiar but elegant atmosphere. I'm looking forward to being back!

Armazém do Sal is a charming restaurant located in the heart of Funchal, Portugal, housed within a former salt warehouse. The restaurant boasts an inviting ambiance with wooden beams and stone walls. It offers a small but dedicated vegan menu featuring three main dishes including soya moussaka with roasted aubergine, lentil salad with roasted vegetables, and barley salad with caramelized baby vegetables.
Had a lovely meal with the family while on vacation. There was live saxophone music with classics like Your Song and Yesterday. The food was terrific, and we chose the perfect wine pairing—surprisingly affordable too. The waiter was a little too attentive with refilling our water and wine glasses ;) just two sips and they were topped up again. But overall, it was all very nice, tastefully and friendly.

Fantastic. Visiting from London / South East UK, and pleased to say our palates were well looked after. Surprised to see someone describe it as horrendous, that feels harsh and unnecessary tbh ! We had one Fish Lover and one Meat Lover set, with a wine pairing for the meat. Sat outside. Lovely staff, and the live guitarist was perfect background to a thoughtful and genuinely tasty meal Had booked thru Google Maps, having experienced issues with Open Table. Only nudge is that the veg’s probably could be tidied up in prep, but the laminated menus, signage from the street and overall branding could do with a refresh to better reflect the quality of the experience !

The service was top notch. The cooking was perfect and I didn't see any faults with it. I just didn't love my meal. I think it's one of those times where you didn't order the best option off the menu for yourself lm

Credit where credit is due: the service here is absolutely amazing. The staff are incredibly friendly, polite, and genuinely make you feel valued – 10/10 for the team. Unfortunately, the food was a real disappointment and, for us, the single underwhelming dining experience we’ve had in Madeira so far. The fact they were on Michelin Guide will certainly mislead you into thinking you’re going to have an amazing meal. • Couvert: The bread and focaccia were served cold, not even at room temperature, and the butter portion was so small it was barely enough for one person, let alone to share. • Appetizers: We ordered beef tartare and ceviche. Both dishes were bland and lacked basic seasoning. The tartare felt like had not even salt or pepper, making it feel like eating raw meat straight from the butcher. The ceviche was completely overpowered by purée and sorbet, masking the fish flavor and textures entirely. • Main dishes: We had the prawn risotto and the cheeks. Both were “okay,” but had we skipped the starters, we might have been less disappointed. The risotto had plenty of prawns and decent flavor, but the rice was far too wet. The cheeks were tender, but the sides were plain, and the mashed potatoes had a taste that simply wasn’t for us. In short, while the service is exceptional, the food quality does not match the prices charged and let my wife and I very disappointed. For half of the price you can easily enjoy far better meals, with amazing views, elsewhere in Madeira. Can’t recommend a visit here.

Everywhere around the islands, people are very kind. Here the staff's hospitality is above and beyond. It's a weird alley, but please enter and book a table here. You won't be disappointed.

We had a fab experience here. They catered for my wife’s allergy needs 100%. Lovely people looking after us, lovely surroundings, lovely live music in the background.

This is a really lovely restaurant. It was quiet Sunday evening. Food was delicious, one meat fixed choice and one a la carte black scabbard fish. Excellent dessert mille feuille. Recommend and would definitely return
Alison — Google review
Service here was amazing and friendly, the atmosphere was great, but the food didn't really live up to expectations. The flavor combinations didn't work and the plating was confusing. We also found the dessert to be average. However, our experience was saved by the staff. Very generous wine pours and we very much enjoyed the ride back in their vintage car! Overall a good experience.

Beef & Wines is a steakhouse situated close to the Pestana Carlton and Royal Savoy hotels in Funchal. It offers a wide selection of quality meats, with popular dishes such as Picanha, steaks, beef skewers, and burgers. In addition to beef options, the restaurant also provides chicken, pork, and fish dishes along with soups and salads. The ambiance is described as fantastic and the prices are reasonable.
Dining at Beef & Wine in Madeira was an unforgettable culinary experience that beautifully showcased the richness of Madeiran tradition with a refined, homemade touch. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, elegant, and welcoming—setting the perfect stage for what turned out to be one of the best meals we had on the island. What truly makes this place stand out is their commitment to authentic, homemade dishes using fresh, local ingredients. Every plate that arrived at our table was not only delicious but also thoughtfully prepared and presented. One of the absolute highlights was the beef tartare, which was prepared live at the table by a skilled and friendly chef. Watching the process, seeing the attention to detail, and being part of the preparation added a personal, interactive touch to the meal. The tartare was seasoned perfectly, full of flavor, and incredibly fresh—an absolute must-try. We also had the fish with potatoes, a traditional dish that was simply out of this world. The fish was tender and flaky, with a delicate taste of the sea, while the potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside—truly the definition of comfort food elevated to a fine dining level. The service at Beef & Wine was nothing short of impeccable. The staff was professional yet friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and always ready to recommend the perfect wine or dish pairing. They made us feel special and taken care of throughout the entire evening. The wine selection was excellent as well, with a strong focus on local Madeiran wines that complemented the food beautifully. It’s clear that great care goes into every aspect of the experience, from the kitchen to the table. In a place known for its natural beauty and hospitality, Beef & Wine still manages to exceed expectations. Whether you’re a food lover looking to explore traditional Madeiran cuisine or simply want a memorable dining experience in Funchal, this restaurant is a must-visit. We left not only full and satisfied but also impressed by the passion and authenticity behind every dish. We’ll definitely return on our next visit to Madeira. Highly recommended!

We had heard a lot of great things about this restaurant, it was also a bonus for me since items were marked gluten free which made it an easy choice. We each did our own appetizers, mains and desserts. Everything was yummy, but I can’t say it was spectacular. The ribs were very thin with not much meat and our affocados were just ice and coffee, not at all as describe on the menu with olive oil and sea salt. The service was friendly but still somewhat of a language barrier even though I was speaking Portuguese where possible. A fun spot for a group.

We pre booked here from the Uk as we know it is difficult to ‘walk in’ here and get a table. We were greeted very warmly as we were repeat diners. Shown to a lovely round table that I really like as you have much more space. We ordered drinks and the lady sommelier went out of her way to offer us 2 different taster wines so we could choose our favourite. We ordered picana, t bone and wagu steaks. You get one complimentary side each and all others are 4€. It is best to all order different and then share. The roasted pineapple was a great ‘finisher’ to the meal. Well done to everyone involved, chef, servers and sommelier!

We came here for dinner on a Monday evening 7pm reservation but the restaurant was very quiet. Service and atmosphere were 10/10. Food was good for some dishes and not so good for others. The steak was very good, and the waitress gave us an excellent wine recommendation. The desert and starters were just OK. Overall I would recommend for an evening out. We paid 170 euros for two people including a bottle of wine

What a fantastic 3 course meal we had here a couple of weeks ago when visiting Madeira. We chose it after spotting ‘the cow’ in the window whilst out for a walk. Didn’t take photos of the food but did if the decor and sign in the toilet Will 100% return if back in Madeira

Friends back home recommended this place to us, so we had to give it a try – especially their famous sliced picanha. You get a large skewer of New Zealand beef with a side of your choice, and wow, it was absolutely delicious. The fries were unfortunately a bit soft, which was a slight letdown, but the flavor overall was spot on. We sat outside since we hadn’t booked a table, and the passing cars could be a bit distracting. I’d definitely recommend booking ahead so you can sit inside and enjoy the full experience.
Sandy L — Google review
Great choice for the carnivore. Delicious beetroot, orange and mozzarella salad to start followed by beef on a skewer carved in front of you. You can eat as much of it as you can stomach, ( see picture) followed by a slice of roasted pineapple to cleanse your palate. Fantastic wine selection. The Pinot Noir is lovely.

La Vaca Negra is a newly opened restaurant in Funchal, located on Outdated Avenue Assist, 12. It prides itself on using high-quality regional products and incorporating Argentinean culinary expertise. The restaurant offers a traditional Argentinian steakhouse experience, specializing in cooking meats over an open flame. Guests can choose from a variety of cuts, sides, salads, and appetizers. The ambiance is described as warm and inviting, setting the stage for an exceptional dining experience.
A perfect dining experience... period! An absolute must while in Funchal. The service is impeccable, the environment warm and inviting. The energy was high, the patrons were excited and the anticipation was evident everywhere we turned. Tables filled up quickly so a reservation is a must. The unique preparation of the meat is what creates the incredible flavor on your plate. A bottle of red followed by an exquisite desert and espresso, and our evening here was perfection! The flavors were perfect and the experience unforgettable! I can't recommend La Vaca Negra enough!

Located in a residential neighbourhood this unassuming steakhouse is a hidden gem! From the service to food, excellent. Cooked Argentinian way but with portuguese beef. This place is a cow lovers paradise. The chouriço appetizer and steak were amazing. Great wines to pair with them too!

Absolutely fabulous. The menu is short, but that’s because everything they offer is done to perfection. Make going here a priority if you like steak. Get a reservation or try to for a walk-in outside of peak dinner hours.

The place itself was nice and the staff, very happy and welcoming. For me the steak wasn't cooked to how I like it. And I found it very salty which is ashame. I do love my steak 😋 but for me it wasn't a wow for me. Sorry, I wanted to something different.

Our first time at La Vaca Negra and we loved it. The steaks are amazing and cooked over a wood fire grill. Service was outstanding! Highly recommend.
Thomas H — Google review
I had read a lot of positive reviews about La Vaca Negra before our trip to Madeira. It sounded excellent and I brought my family based on those reviews. Unfortunately we were disappointed in both the cooking of our steaks and the performance of some of the staff. 4 of the 5 steaks we ordered were poorly cooked. Two mediums were well done, one medium rare was medium well and another medium rare was blue (cold to the touch). There was one medium well that came out as expected. To be fair, we only initially asked for the medium rare steaks to be corrected which they did eventually get to us after two tries. They were excellent when cooked to order. Two of our party were not happy with their steaks but only one eventually complained and the restaurant did provide a replacement of the portion sent back. One of our waiters apologized for the errors and seemed frustrated with the doneness on the steaks. He said "Sorry, it happens" when taking them back. My main problem was that the timing of our meal was thrown completely off with all the re-cooks. We finished our meal 20 or more minutes apart. When we expressed our displeasure to the waiter who brought us our bill, he accused us of being too picky. I know this makes me sound like a jerk, but I understand steak temps from blue, rare, mid-rare, medium, medium-well and well. I expect they do too. I'm usually very forgiving, but these were not close. Please don't try to gaslight me into thinking I'm being unreasonable about wanting my steak cooked to order. You asked me. Again, to be fair, they did attempt to correct the errors, but we take no pleasure in disrupting our meal with requests for corrections. They eventually took one of the five steaks off of our bill. The empanadas were excellent and the staff was generally very friendly, but overall a bad experience due to a lack of execution and rude treatment from one staff member.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Funchal's Old Town, Restaurante Taberna Ruel is a charming eatery that stands out with its eye-catching yellow facade on Rua de Santa Maria. This beloved spot offers a delightful blend of Madeiran cuisine and traditional European dishes, all complemented by an impressive selection of Portuguese wines. Guests can choose to dine al fresco on the lively pedestrian street, enjoy a cozy meal under the historic stone arches indoors, or savor grilled steaks in the serene rear courtyard.
We had lunch yesterday and the food and service was amazing. We had the. Branco Sangria and it divine. We sat outside Rua Se Santa Maria and it was lively. I gave them 4* for service since they had added an extra glass of wine which we never ordered but when I pointed it out they removed it. We would definitely go there again.

I really liked this place, they were playing old school rock hits and I had the most chill yet attentive server. I got the fish soup and the octopus tavern style and both dishes were splendid. The octopus was grilled nicely and perfectly salted, and paired well with the sautéed onions and peppers. It came with a minuscule amount of sweet potato mash- it could do with more. I really enjoyed myself at this restaurant and it’s a wonderful find in the old town.

Came here on a Sunday for lunch. Start are wonderful and very friendly and efficient. However the food was disappointing. The garlic bread starter was a very disappointing start to the meal. The beef skewer and fries were good, however the fish and prawns were well overcooked and the portion size was disappointing for the price. The tequila sunrise was great however the mojito was abysmal.

Unfortunately it was not the best experience eating at this restaurant. In the picture it was supposed to be a red snapper but I paid 47 euros for a bland tasting fish instead. The lasagna was not cooked enough and it wasn't tasty at all. I will say though, It was pretty late (around 10:30 pm). However, the service was good, the boys were nice and attentive.

Nice spot for local food and other things. We booked online for a big group which was helpful. ChatGPT said it was great for tapas and sharing but actually it’s just regular sized portions served in even bigger plates haha. I tried the fish with banana which surprisingly works as a combo. Staff were friendly but running around as they were very busy. Located towards the end of the Funchal town.

Honestly not my favorite and would not recommend. Came for dinner with my family, all 4 of us. None of us had a meal we loved, it was okay... But with some many restaurants around I would say to go somewhere people love the food. We're not picky, just comparing to other Madeira or Portugal food. Wine was fine, felt rushed out at 10-10:30. Overall, wouldn't recommend to anyone I know

Modern European restaurant
Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Funchal, Restaurante Hemingway offers a charming escape that pays homage to the literary genius of Ernest Hemingway. As night descends, the restaurant transforms into an enchanting space adorned with rich green interiors and vintage furnishings, creating a cozy atmosphere enhanced by soft lighting and occasional live saxophone music. The menu is a delightful nod to literature, featuring dishes named after famous authors.
A true fine dining experience with no detail overlooked. Hemingway’s offers a full menu experience where you enjoy wine pairings, several courses, and coffee to close — all under a fixed price that’s excellent value for the quality delivered. From the amuse-bouche to dessert, every plate felt refined yet generous. The wine pairing was curated with thought and introduced with genuine knowledge by the staff. Service was warm but professional, and the setting — tucked between the Savoy Palace and Royal Savoy — feels elegant but not overly formal. It’s the kind of place where you lose track of time over great food and conversation. Easily one of the best full-service meals we had in Madeira.

We pre booked this restaurant as it gets very busy in August. We visited last year, 2024 and were impressed so decided to return this year. Our table was situated at the rear of the restaurant in the ‘open ceiling’ area, so don’t worry that it will be hot and dark inside, it opens up as you go through and is very light and airy. Very attractive tables and tableware, with a lot of attention to detail. We opted for the all-inclusive menu at 67 euros a head, this includes, bread with oils and butter, starter, main course and dessert. Service impeccable with all staff members knowledgeable regarding menu and drinks which were also included in the price, multiple’top ups’ during dinner and Madeira wine at end of meal! This restaurant is a little bit stuck in the past, but if you like traditional’English’ food served and presented with care and attention this place is the one for you.

This is one of our favourite spots in Madeira and our holiday focuses around visiting this amazing restaurant. This meant we even made three trips within our one week holiday! The Staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and it is the same staff every night so they are all devoted to ensuring you have a great experience. I have a nut allergy and sometimes struggle to find places abroad where I feel comfortable, however the staff are great and fill you with confidence that your allergy is taken seriously. We always go for the “special concept” which is a three course meal with wine pairing. It is great value for money as they are very generous with the wine. The atmosphere is made better with live music of either; trumpet, singer or saxophone and we got the pleasure of hearing all three this trip. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back!!

We honestly thought this place might be a bit of a tourist trap given its location close to several 5-star hotels. It was on the pricier side, but the food turned out to be absolutely delicious – we had octopus and a selection of fish, all perfectly cooked with tasty sides. One thing that surprised us was having to pay for bread, especially when the restaurant otherwise felt classy and exclusive – and the bread itself was nothing special, more like a cheap roll from a bag. That said, the service and atmosphere were very good overall, and we left happily surprised.

A wonderful treat for myself in Madeira. They had a special off of three courses with wine pairings. I was quite surprised that I could order anything on the menu for each course. Indulged in stuffed mushrooms, beef wellington and a cheese board for dessert. I was treated as a welcome guest.

We ate in the restaurant last Thursday, it was by far the best meal we had over the holiday. Their concept menu included a glass of sparkling wine, any choice of starter, main and desert with matching wines which were generously topped up. Each dish was excellent.

Our new favourite restaurant in Funchal! Beautiful venue with great staff and a wonderful ambience. The food is some of the finest available on the island and prices are very reasonable - especially the fixed price menu which allows you to choose any 3 courses from the menu and includes wine with each course (which they top up on a regular basis!). We’ve booked for our last night and can’t wait to visit again. VERY highly recommended :-)

Casa do Bolo do Caco is a popular spot in Funchal, offering traditional Madeiran bread called Bolo do Caco served with garlic butter. The menu includes accompaniments like Milho Frito and local seafood, as well as the famous Poncha da Madeira. The top floor features a children's playground while TVs are scattered around the dining room for entertainment.
Goodness, walked past this place by coincidence and based on the locals ordering food you knew it worth the wait! Yes, the wait, as it is that good. I had the chorizo and cheese sandwich and a friend had the pork sandwich - the bread which is freshly baked is insanely good. Deffo worth a visit. Also, say hi to Tatiana and Vania, they are the friendliest ladies ;)

Not sure what all the fuss is about. Maybe their steak is really good but they ran out of steak so we ordered burger which was below average. Definitely one I wouldn't eat if I wasn't starving coming back from a long hike. We thought we deserve a nice sandwich and this definitely WAS NOT!!!! Although I was starving, I couldn't eat the last bit of the veeery fatty meat! It was cheap though!

The best pork sandwich we’ve ever had! Came back here twice while we stayed in Funchal. We also tried the prego (steak sandwich) but it was rather bland. The pork sandwich, however, is definitely worth the queue.

Let’s face it - it’s absurdly overpriced and definitely not the best bolo do caco you will eat on Madeira. But it is in the very center of the old town and is freshly baked. So overall experience is not so bad and I don’t regret buying it. There are only few tables so it might take a while to get seated if you want to eat there.

The best Bolo do caco in Madeira! They are making the bread fresh right there infront of you! I suggest getting there early as they sell out due to being so popular and delicious. We came here two days in a row to eat! My partner had the steak special and I had the pork special - it was amazing!! Highly recommend. Lovely sraff, good price and comfortable seating!

We ordered 2 normal Prego steak sandwiches and it was delicious. My steak was very tender and easy to eat, however my husband's steak was harder to bite. The bread was delicious and had just the right amount of garlic butter. The sandwiches were served with crisps. We ate at the tables outside, and it's not the restaurant's fault but there were a lot of pigeons trying to get any fallen crumbs. The staff were good in clearing the tables promptly to avoid this as much as possible. 2 sandwiches, a coke and small coffee cost €15.50. Overseas payment cards accepted

Overall a very pleasant hotel. Location great and parking inexpensive. A warm welcome and room upgrade at check-in (nice!) and Fernando at the door brightened up my son's day every time we passed by. Room cleaning excellent and housekeeping staff went over and above with nice little touches. As far as I could tell all rooms have a great view and a little balcony (this was ours on second floor - see pic). Excellent pools although changing rooms not very accessible/well-signposted (e.g none in the indoor pool area other than a toilet, but we did find some on our last day at the furthest away outdoor pool). Only negative for me was the food quality was just okay and and I found the waiting staff in the piano bar not to be very attentive, and outside at the pool bar they were a bit surly. Everyone else was great! We were the youngest guests by some margin, most others seemed to be the coach trip crowd, if that's something you care about (we didn't).

Terrible experience with their customer service after our honeymoon trip was cancelled due to flight cancellations. No sympathy, completely non-refundable and were unwilling to offer rescheduling to a future date.

Guests can enjoy amenities such as a terrace solarium, indoor pool, Turkish steam bath, hot tub, Scottish shower, sauna facilities, and traditional Hammam.
Couldn't really fault this hotel. Accommodation, facilities, staff, food, location all very good. My only slight gripe was the constant playing of ABBA songs in the foyer but I imagine lots of other guests liked it. Had a fantastic view from our room, lovely to wake up to every morning along with a glass of fizz with breakfast (which had a great selection). Would definitely stay here again.

This review is long overdue! We chose Pestana Carlton Madeira last minute after experiencing poor service at another nearby 5-star hotel — and we’re so glad we did. From the moment we checked in until the day we left, everything was absolutely perfect. We booked a suite with an ocean view, and it was simply fabulous — spacious, comfortable, and the view was just incredible. The service throughout our stay was outstanding; every member of staff we met was friendly, helpful, and professional. Breakfast each morning was great, with plenty of variety and fresh options. We ended up spending most of our time at the hotel, relaxing and sunbathing by the pools overlooking the ocean. There are few pools, all have good size and are beautifully maintained. The food at the poolside bar was also delicious — perfect for a lazy afternoon in the sun. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Pestana Carlton Madeira truly lived up to its 5-star rating, and we will definitely be back!

We had a truly wonderful family holiday here in October half term! Celebrating our wedding anniversary the staff went above and beyond to make our trip truly memorable! The room was spacious and adequate for all four of us. The facilities were incredible - all pools were wonderful and the facilities were all fantastic. There is so much choice for catering in the many bars and restaurants and the main meals were delicious with lots of variety. There was also lots to do for the children and they even arranged trick or treating over Halloween! We fully recommend this hotel for a family holiday! Thank you Pestana Carlton and especially Racquel on the front desk!

Very nice hotel, we booked a sea room view and it was well worth the extra money. Rooms are clean and the beds are ever comfortable although I do find the air con a little noisy. . So far all of the staff have been very friendly and helpful. The range of food at breakfast is extensive and will fit most diets and appetites. Hotel facilities are great, with plenty of pools, sun lounges and plenty of bars and restaurants for if you do not want to venture out. I do recommend and would consider returning

I would say to anyone considering this hotel- be warned not all 5 stars are equal. We have stayed in 5 stars in madeira and felt distinctly like it was 5 star. There are some aspects to be improved to meet that experience. For a first time visitor, this may not be a downfall at all. This technical rating here was based on what facilities they "have",by which I mean, when we got there the gym was closed with no warning. One of the indoor pools, also closed. Lots of signs up about why various things weren't available, and I think the indoor atmosohere was missing a little something (my opinion only). The prices of the bar drinks were a bit much (for me) but the view with which we could enjoy them outside kn the balcony and round sofas was marvellous. I cannot fault the views and cleanliness. I particularly liked the layout of the hotel, the comfort and extravegance of having many distinct options for relaxing, sunbathing, washing, and swimming was lovely; I enjoyed being able to use a sunbed right by the ocean waves whenever I fancied the trip doen, but equally having a pool 10 seconds from my bed on other days. I have to say I found the beds really not comfortable and I do know some of the rooms had less than ideal views if not facing the ocean. Others may enjoy a very firm bed. ** I will say thank you to the staff as I can see they have diligently replied and are always looking for feedback. I have amended some of my original wording to help convey the positive experience we had alongsidr my personal critique**

About The Pub restaurant: very welcoming place with a stunning view of the ocean — perfect for enjoying a calm, relaxing meal. The tables are thoughtfully arranged to provide privacy. The service is efficient and friendly, with a well-prepared team ready to assist. A special mention goes to Mr. Viveiros, whose kindness and professionalism make the experience even more enjoyable. The dishes are well presented, served at just the right temperature, hot and full of flavor. It’s a place that invites you to return — whether for a romantic dinner or a relaxed meal with friends — always accompanied by a magnificent view of the sea.

Wonderful hotel, staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms spacious and clean. Breakfast is amazing. Plenty of sun loungers. Location very close to Funchal town. Pool area very clean lift to lower pool. There is a free car park but not easy to get a space. The pay car park is €1ph. Access to swim in the sea from the pool

Five star? My room was terrible, had no privacy with full view from the street and car park straight into the room, dirty, noisy and struggled to sleep, no drinking water in room, outdated and dying (literally) for a renovation. THERE IS NO GYM or FITNESS ROOM - it is a total lie. Literally 6 pairs of weights and a chair from the dining hall (see photos). There are a few cardio machines. That’s it. I felt very mislead, I booked because they said they health centre - false information. Hotel is old and run down. I would not recommend.

Very cozy nice place. Perfect menu - We had burrito bowl with brisket the meat was amazing full of taste. And American burger absolutely amazing , the piri-piri souce was hot like hell ( we like it much) Recommend !!!!

We both had the pulled pork with two sides and neither of us could finish our meal. It was huge! And we can both eat. But we were defeated. It was really nice food. The “beans” I had as one of my sides was really tasty and went perfectly with plain rice and the pork. The only criticism is that I couldn’t get a dark beer. I asked for two different ones and neither was available. Great food though and so much of it. Very good value. Update. We returned here again after a couple of days. A dark beer was back on, and neither of us could finish our meal again! Massive portions.

I really wanted this place to be good after reading the reviews, but golly, it just wasn’t. Full disclosure, I’m an American and I regularly barbecue hamburgers, steak, etc. on a grill. You want your burger to have a hint of smoky taste, be juicy on the inside and be slightly pink. Grill marks are a bonus. I ordered the Naked Burger, and while it looks good for posting on Instagram, it failed in all other categories. It was VERY dry. But not to worry, there was tons of sauce on it to hide this. It was tough to chew. It looked like it had been broiled maybe in an oven. The taste was also very bland. If you’re an American and are looking for a good burger, avoid this place and get out the grill when you get home. The service bordered on hostile when we asked for a couple more packets of ketchup for our fries. We said please and thank you in Portuguese and still couldn’t get a smile from the moment we sat from the moment we left. We understand service in Portugal is different. However, the service in restaurants in Lisbon and Porto were far more courteous and welcoming.

We Had the pulled pork fried onion rings French fries chicken wrap and a gluten free burger loved the pulled pork waitress was lovely and understandable about my daughter being a coeliac she said burger was lovely but wasn't keen on the bread was a couple of gluten free options we would go back
Miggy S — Google review
We had the smoked whole chicken. It was good flavourwise but otherwise just an ordinary roasted chicken that was too dry. Actually really dry. The salad was fresh and the barbecuesauce good. Service however a little inexperienced maybe. Cannot recommend the chicken.
Amila H — Google review
It was a nice looking place and atmosphere but the food was horrible, the meat was old, like it was made 2 days earlier. The Angus brisket was dry, they didn’t have half a chicken so we ordered pulled chicken instead and pulled brisket, it tastes horrible, not fresh, old, dry. This place is not worth it. And to top it all off we got stomach problems after eating here.
Dalal — Google review
Bit disappointed with this place, the two ladies serving were OK but looked completely bored! The burger i had looked great but wasn't all that great in taste. Also the music was Portuguese but this is supposed to be an American restaurant so I would have thought some American music would have been more appropriate. Also no toilet paper in the toilet.

A quality burger, probably the best you'll find in Funchal. Price is about right for the city centre, with 4 adults, each with premium burgers (The Snug burger), Chips and beer... Oh and one milkshake (awesome shake). Staff were patient as we were the last in / out and we were not rushed. Massive burgers, great surroundings - Worth a visit!

Restaurant
Restaurante Jangada RA II is a popular spot in Funchal, known for its unique dining experience. The owner takes pride in serving fresh steak and pork on sizzling hot stone plates right at your table. Visitors rave about the sensational taste of the meat and the interactive cooking process. The friendly and accommodating staff, including the charming owner and Miguel, ensure a warm welcome and excellent service. Despite some mixed reviews, many guests have enjoyed multiple meals at this restaurant during their holiday.
Outstanding hospitality. The owner is kind and very funny. The kids loved him. The food was excellent and the special feature of the place is that you can cook your own meat on a hot stone on the table.

My husband and I came here for dinner and we are so pleased we did. Lovely friendly staff and the service was amazing. The food was first class - we had the steak on the stone and it was mouth watering. Would highly recommend this place xx

My husband and I quickly agreed this was the best steak either of us had ever had. Not much else to say other then great food, wine and friendly service. Perfect dinner and although we never do this on holiday, we will return tomorrow before leaving Madeira

Literally stumbled across by accident and it was an amazing find. Really good quality ingredients that made an epic meal. Just check the vids, you gotta have the steak on stone it’s another level. Even the fresh warm bread served with garlic butter was an unexpected delight. Ohhhh yeah, we got a fantastic wine recommendation too, service was impeccable. Bravo all-round 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

This restaurant has been always a secret recommendation when I was working on cruise ships. Always when we arrived we would go there. The owner is a real wholehearted person and the food is just delicious. I have to recommend the Steak on hot stone. The meat is perfect, imported from the Azores. I very rarely had such a good piece of meat. A must go! Ah, and as a desert ask for the Mango Pudding. His wife is preparing those ;)

We have eaten here three times during our holiday and thoroughly enjoyed every meal. The owner who serves and Miguel are very friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Having read the review by the solo female, who gave a very negative review, we were there that night and she clearly put on a very good performance. Rue, the owner was clearly concerned as to the reaction she gave and didn’t appear to react in the way she described! She spent time relating her story to the restaurant next door! We would highly recommend the restaurant and the food

Simply superb! We went twice whilst on Funchal on holiday as it was so good the first time. As others have said, the steak (or pork) on hot stone is sensational. It's brought out and cooks right in front of you, is superbly tender and absolutely delicious. What makes it next level is the service, you feel welcome from the moment you step in (or walk past!) and the maitre'd is charming, attentive and really funny. Absolutely top marks, and a must visit if you're in Funchal.

Delicious cook on the stone beef for 2. Came with a shared portion of fries. The beef was delicious and a good sized fillet but would have benefited from a side salad and a portion of fries each. The food we did eat was 10 out of 10 😋. Sat outside because the weather was lovely, great service just spoiled slightly by the passing cars.
