We popped in for a small dinner last night. The waiter was very friendly and welcoming. He was helpful and gave some recommendations. The noodle dish was okay but nothing special. The vegan sushi was well presented but as well, nothing you would write home about. Portions & prices okay.

We have had diner here 2 times and both times where perfect. Very good sushi and very nice service. I would recommend it to every body. We took a sushi boat the second time. This has several different kinds of sushi on it. If you like sushi this is the place to be.

The staff are super nice& the place is located on a cute little street. The sushi variations are cute and tasty. The perfect choice for some casual weekday extravaganza. They have vegan options and they are dog-friendly.

Fresh, delicious, creative sushi. Gracious hosts… the couple next to us had a miscommunication (that I felt was their fault). The chef had prepared this huge gorgeous sushi boat which they sent back because they don’t eat fish. My heart broke for the waste of food for a small restaurant. The waiter apologized and brought them a complimentary appetizer while they prepared a vegetarian boat. Please support this lovely restaurant. Some of the best sushi we have ever eaten, and on a cute cobbled street in the old town. Five stars!

The waiter was the best, perfect English and very patiently explained the rolls. Sushi presentation was also beautiful. I recommend sitting outside, it’s beautiful!

I can recommend Sakura Sushi in Funchal to anyone who likes sushi. The freestyle menu is perfect if you want to try many different sushi. The service was very courteous and friendly, we got before our order a greeting from the kitchen which was very tasty. The sushi were lovingly arranged in wooden boats and were very tasty! The Coral beer from the barrel rounded the whole thing as refreshment. 70€ for 3 Persons The food came after about 20 minutes. See you again !

We visited Sakura sushi twice while in Funchal. Both times we opted for a combo option, as the dinner deal was too good to pass on. The boat came with sushi, sashimi, and a deep fried roll. Each roll was unique, and some included fruit. If you’re picky about your sushi, definitely speak the the waiter. They are so knowledge about their (very large) menu and will recommend the right option for you. The sashimi was excellent, but we could have done without some of the fruit+fish combos.

Such a great spot! The sushi was fresh, the butter chicken was one of the best I’ve had, and the veggie samosa was delicious. Pramod made the whole experience even better with his humor and awesome service! Highly recommend!

Not recommended for fresh sushi. We ordered the sushi boat for two and asked to substitute a seafood roll with tuna/salmon. The waiter agreed, but then the manager came over claiming the waiter “only worked here 3 days” (clearly untrue) and we could only substitute with vegetarian, not fish, because it’s “too complicated.” Felt like cost-cutting. What arrived: unripe mango and avocado, mediocre sushi with previously frozen fish, and momos with ketchup instead of authentic sauce. Overpriced for the quality. Service was good, but the food and manager’s attitude were disappointing.

The food was really good — you could order sushi as well as dishes from Indian and Chinese cuisine. I especially liked the pani puri, which is an authentic Indian dish, and the curry was very tasty. The dumplings were fried, which I had never seen before — but it added an interesting twist. Really nice to try, they also have the original steamed dumplings. The staff were friendly and welcoming.

Excellent experience at the Sunrise Asian Fusion restaurant. The waiter was very nice and friendly. I had the Napal speciality (vegan version). It was very good, colourful and flavourful. I also shared with my husband some vegan tofu rolls, the best I ever tasted! I highly recommend 🫶🏽.

Great experience at this Sushi Restaurant. The prices are accessible and the waiters are very helpful in explaining with each item on the menu. We had a 20pcs platter for 2 people, it had all kinds of sushi, however no sashimi. The shrimp Gyosas are okayy but maybe try another filling.

The service is amazing. I have gluten intolerance and they made sure to offer all gluten free sushi and soya sauce. Our waiter was always on a stand by if we need him. The food was incredibly fresh and delicious.

We tried their osaka sushi freestyle and it was probably one of the best sushi we've ever had, if not the best. The waiters were extremely nice and brought us even two extra foods on the house. We'd definitely return there.

Best sushi place ever! They serve beer in 1-liter mugs and have a great all-you-can-eat offer. It includes starters like soup and spring rolls, followed by huge sushi platters that you can keep refilling. The sushi is very fresh with lots of variations. Very friendly staff, absolutely recommended!

Ended here by accident and enjoyed a delicious set of sushi! Krishna was very careful and considerate of the gluten intolerant people at my table and recommended a fantastic set tailored for us!

Loved our sushi and the service at this restaurant. We opted for all-you-can-eat option and had a good variety of sushi, including the ones with tuna and mango. We generally liked all of them but reordered the ones that we loved more. The service was relatively quick and attentive considering that the restaurant was quite busy when we visited.

Average food, nothing really exciting about this place. You can find better sushi for a more affordable price in Madeira. This was just okay. Nothing really impressive. Service was average as well, other than the employee getting out of her way chasing me to the exit because I was taking the left over from the 1L bottle of water that I bought.

Really fresh sushi and sashimi and staff are happy to give suggestions as to best dish. Wish I'd had time to try the more traditional sushi although who knew salmon and mango would be a good combining 🤷☺️

I found this place through an online recommendation for vegan tourism in Madeira. We had a fantastic lunch at the restaurant with a large plate of completely vegan freestyle sushi (32 pieces for 2 people). The combination of fruits and vegetables was amazing and it was beautifully decorated with edible flowers. The vegan freestyle sushi is not directly mentioned in the menu, only vegetarian, but it was absolutely no problem to ask the waiter for the vegan version. Our group also had the Yakisoba which was equally great! Highly recommend this place!

Very accommodating staff, I had a party of 30 people and the service was incredible. Everyone really enjoyed their food. I had the free style sushi, which was very fresh and had a variety of interesting pieces I never tried before.

the vegetarian menu for 16€ was amazing. it included fresh lemonade (not sweet, perfectly refreshing!), vegetarian spring rolls and a lot of great sushi (you can expect great combinations, I had avocado & asparagus, something with mango and everything tasted super fresh and awesome) and coffee. I also tried the profiteroles and can very much recommend them :)) overall, great experience with extremely friendly service!

I’ve been here several times and it is super worth it. The menus are worth it for the lunch time, for dinner I’d recommend the freestyle sushi, very tasty! Highly recommend you try out the starters.

We had a wonderful experience at Terra! From beginning to end it was just perfect! At reservation I requested our table to be decorated for our anniversary and indeed they prepared a perfect candle light table for us, thank you soo much again 🙂 The food from starter to main course and dessert were just delicious and full of aroma and flavors! We can only recommend to enjoy an evening. The service was excellent and all the staff were so nice and highly professional! Prices are decent for the quality of food and service. PS: They have lots of vegan options to choose from and the taste is amazing. They also ask for allergies which is very nice. Thank you again for a great evening ❤️

This hidden little spot is on the corner, through glass doors, up a hall, through another door and up a set of stairs. When you reach the restaurant, it is very earthy and inviting. The staff are extremely friendly and nice. We ordered two desserts as I have a dairy allergy and they have vegan friendly choices. The menu was a little pricey so we decided to do take away, so we could enjoy a picnic together outside. The vegan panna cota was coconut based but instead of using a cream, they used the flesh. This made the dessert gritty, undesireable as a texture to eat and as it didn’t have any real flavour (other than the coconut) I was disappointed. I think eating a coconut would have been the same but more satisfying. The berry compote that was on th side was delicious, with some pistachios for decoration. The chocolate mousse tasted artificial, like a cheap grocery store mousse. It was not smooth and creamy, was sugary and heavier than expected. The added topping of caramel popcorn unfortunately did not add to the dessert, just made the texture a little more bearable. I would not recommend the vegan desserts from this restaurant. I have been waiting 6 months to try this place and it is something I could have lived without. For the positives, the environment was relaxing in the restaurant, the servers were kind and very friendly, and it was accessible for people who cannot use the stairs.

The restaurant is hidden from the street, so it is very pleasant to dine here. Reservation is a must. The staff is very kind and the food is just breathtaking. I also recommend you accept their sourdough bread with flavoured butter.

Everything about this restaurant was perfect. The food was sublime! I wanted to try everything from the menu. Octopus was super tender, literally melting in your mouth. The staff was absolutely amazing, doing everything so you have a perfect evening, paying a lot of attention for details. Finally, the garden looks even better than on the picture. All in all, this was our best evening on Maideira.

I discovered the restaurant through social media, as we always need to plan for vegan options in our travel group. It’s certainly not the kind of place where you get huge portions for a cheap price. Yes, the food was a bit more expensive, but absolutely justified by the quality and the service. It was incredibly delicious. The staff were very attentive and friendly, and the wait times for the food were very short. The quality speaks for itself here. Highly recommended for celebrating a wonderful evening — and in our case, our upcoming farewell — on Madeira!

Our stand out meal from this stay. Discreet and attentive service, great flavours and an ideal venue for ‘mixed’ couples where one prefers veggie and the other is an established carnivore. Relaxed dining in a covered courtyard.

We are sat here at the chefs table having only booked at 5pm for a 7.30pm table and we were instantly blown away by the attentiveness of the staff from the moment we walked in. Every item on the menu was explained to us in great detail. We were even presented with fresh bread straight from the oven! Amazing! And homemade butter too! Just wow! There isn't a microwave in sight, everything freshly cooked from scratch. The food was delicious! If we get a chance before we return home, we will be back. The best meal we have had so far in Madeira.

We came here as a last-minute whim because the view looked like it would be amazing and we were blown away by the service, decor, attention to detail, creativity, and taste of the dishes! I got the vegan bomb (Beyond Meat croquette on a beetroot hummus), vegan mac & cheese with a pumpkin base, & sparkling white wine. Even though I didn’t see a vegan option on the dessert menu, I asked if there was one and they had a mango sorbet with warm banana in a coconut curry sauce that was phenomenal! I would definitely recommend this place in a heartbeat but get reservations if you can in advance. We were lucky we got a table because we showed up early, but it seemed like most tables were reserved already.

Excellent experience! Recommend you visit! On the third floor of the Three house hotelcomplex, there is the similarly named restaurant. Being on the 3rd floor, it offers a terrace with a view to the sea, but also seating inside. We were seated outside on the terrace (do reserve, otherwise you might not be lucky to find a table), and were welcomed by the excellent staff of Three house. English speaking, kind and helpful, they really lift the experience and help you enjoy the evening. Then there is the food. Added some photos but the lighting was off so the photos do not do the dishes justice. Flavours were excellent. Dishes are well prepared and really hit the right tones. Portion size is good, you will not leave hungry. Prices reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. Plenty choice for wine, per bottle or by the glass. Fully recommend Three house! Great food, excellent staff and great venue, all help to make your evening a memorable one.

We had great experience sitting on the chef's table! We had a chance to see the kitchen in action, and to hear the story behind the dishes and the ingredients from the chef itself. The service was excellent, and food was amazing, specially the mushroom bun which had unique asain flavors.

We enjoyed a lunch chef table experience including scabbard fish dishes, espetadas, and a chocolate mousse dessert, with excellent wine pairings for each, all while chatting with both the head chef and the sous chef as they worked. Each dish was excellent on its own, and the combination made a very big lunch! We would highly recommend for the food alone, but if a chefs table is possible, try for it!

I really enjoyed the food! The kitchen did a great job! The place is very well designed – it's truly a pleasure to be here! The dishes, glasses, napkins, and interior are very aesthetically pleasing! The entire team did a fantastic job. Aside from the waiters, the two girls who served us were unfriendly and simply rolled their eyes at our requests. I'm giving them five stars today. I hope the waiters realize they're part of the team and should live up to their responsibilities!

We didn’t have a reservation but were able to get a nice table & were given the option to move to the terrace after our cocktails. The service was wonderful & the food was amazing. We had the scabbard fish with banana guacamole, the beef tartare & the short ribs. The cocktails, wine & food were all amazing. The terrace was lovely. We felt very taken care of & highly recommend.

We got seated right away, got a little fried onion chip welcome from the kitchen and then ordered some of their chef plates. (Friend and normal) all were delicious. The food came out so quickly and the prices were definitely fair. The service was attentive and friendly and we were definitely happy we chose to try their sushi. Would definitely come back and maybe try their bowls or ramen next.

Clearly marked vegan items, yay! :-) The vegan ramen was nice. The broth was especially flavourful. I wasn't a big fan of the noodles themselves – they reminded me of store-bought ramen, but otherwise very happy with this dish. Asahi beer is always a win in my books, and didn't cost much (3 euros or so). I recommend this place to vegans, as the menu had interesting things to offer (like a set of sushi and a vegan sando).

One of the best rolls I’ve ever eaten! I ordered rolls, a shrimp bao bun, and a pork bao bun. Everything was so delicious. The staff were very friendly and served us quickly. I highly recommend this place!

The service was excellent, with friendly, attentive, and professional staff throughout the meal. However, the sushi left something to be desired. The chef’s recommendation consisted entirely of salmon, which made the experience feel a bit one-dimensional. While the quality of the salmon was okay, it would have been much more enjoyable with a greater variety of fish. A more diverse selection would really elevate the overall dining experience.

There was variety of noodles options to choose from. I really liked the taste of the food , it was quite flavorful and the price was very reasonable. The restaurant is not that fancy, its normal but you will find the best noodles here. Give a try if you like noodles.

Really solid food with good flavor that reminds me of back home. The noodles were fresh and had a satay flavoring that I miss. The sushi was alright but the ingredients lacked a umami flavor you get from dedicated sushi restaurants.

They made me vegan fried rice. It was good but I wish it had tofu or something. I recommend it for a cheap nutritious and fast meal that you can take to the beach and enjoy! I wish they add more vegan options in the future :)

Great place for a change of cuisine in Funchal . Basic surroundings but these are the best ones usually for authentic food. The crispy prawns/shrimps are the best we've e had. ***3 months later *** We returned here as we had good food and service as per last review but the results were mixed this time : First visit good as usual second visit not very good . So probably won't return again.

Wonderful! Very tasteful, good presentation, nice service. Go there if you don’t want to have rather rich Portuguese food every evening. Spoil your tummy with some wholesome noodles and vegetables with a good amount of fluid.

Very fast service and well prepared noodles. Vegetarian options is available which is great! The brought itself wasn't too flavoured but there's always things you can add like salt, pepper and a delicious chilli sauce. The place is very clean and peaceful which is a plus. Will definitely go back.

Nice looking place. We ordered two vegetarian meals. The waitress brought us dumplings for appetizers. They contained meat… When the waitress brought us our meals, we asked if they contain meat too. She said no. But they did. In addition, food was tasteless and the portion’s size was very small. Worst ramen experience we have ever had. Vegetarian meal should not contain meat.

Best noodles I've had in Portugal so far. All the flavors in the Vegetable Yakissoba were awesome, and I was stuffed after eating the whole thing! Staff were wonderful as well, and the place is not crowded at all when I was there from noon to 1pm.

It looks nice at first glance, but the ramen is just not good. Broth is watery and without the richness of a proper dashi, the marinated eggs are barely marinated (no discoloration, very little taste of soy), and the noodles feel dry and store-bought. If you like actual ramen, skip this place. If you're looking for just something different than what other places in the area offer, and aren't fussed about the authenticity of food, then it may be worth a try.

The vegetarian Ramen was really poor with few vegetables and 2 fried gyozas. The seafood version was good. The broth is good and there all all the ingredients to be a nice place (location, space, courtesy..). The problem was the lack ingredients....

Came in late during Friday lunch after our long morning hike of 5 hours and drove 45mins to get there. The waiter and the owner was very kind to accommodate us despite us having no reservations. We were extremely appreciate of their goodwill. We ordered the chicken miso ramen, gyozas, and an IPA beer. The gyozas were definitely made by themselves, was succulent with cabbages and meat that went well with the vinegar mix. The chicken miso ramen was yummy, delicious full of umami and flavor, the noodles chewy just the way I like it, the chicken so tender (must have been sous vide). Everything was handmade themselves, the female chef family was a 3rd gen noodle maker in Japan since 1955 and she started this restaurant in Madeira over two years ago. This is truly an excellent ramen restaurant in Madeira that I would recommend (this comes from someone who has probably eaten at over 30-50 different ramen restaurants in my life), and this ranks highly amongst them. Definitely very authentic.

I never expected to have some of the best ramen of my life in Madeira — 11/10 delicious! The lemonade and gyoza were also amazing. Definitely recommend visiting, but make sure to book in advance. ☺️

Found a hidden gem in Madeira. One of my favorite aspects of traveling is discovering authentic ramen shops across different countries outside of Japan. The Kirita ramen shop owners are noodle distributors in Hokkaido so you can trust that it’ll be good! We visited several times to try the different broths: niboshi shoyu, niboshi miso and miso. Their mini curry rice is also really good - small size for sharing as an appetizer. The gyozas are larger than average and pan-fried perfectly. The ramens are customizable with add ons for an extra charge. I recommend the ajitama egg! My favorite is the miso. If you’re a ramen lover, Kirita is a must-try Madeira.

100% best ramen and udon noodles. We’ve been on holiday in Funchal for a week and desperately needed rice and noodles. We were not disappointed. Chewy noodles and tasty well season broth. Don’t believe the images of people downing all the soup. What you slurp up or use the spoon for is all you need. Wish we found this on our first day, not last. 100% authentic, and 100% recommended. You do have to book ahead though and preorder.

The most amazing Japanese noodles. When I come to Madeira I always come back to this restaurant. The service is amazing, they are so friendly, and helpful. The noodles are all handmade. And amazing quality product. 100% recommend!!

One of the better buffet sushi places in Funchal, at the moment. It may look fairly generic and nondescript, but you get generous servings and the sushi is tasty and fresh. Note: The restaurant is the one choosing which pieces of sushi you get, you just need to let them know you've come for the buffet. It might be a turn-off for some, but others might find it a quirky part of the experience.

Very good sushi. All you can eat is 18,99e, everyone gets two plates and if that's not enough (for most people it will be) then they will bring you more. 10/10 would recommend.

We had dinner here this week and we were pleasantly surprised at the price and quality of the all you can eat sushi. The different plates of sushi had a wide range of rolls, including sashimi. The restaurant’s outdoor seating was great as well for creating a cozy atmosphere. The service and staff were wonderful, it’s a family run business and the young server who’s the owners son, was especially courteous and kind. I only wish we had another night to have dinner here.

Fantastic ramen in a fun, anime-themed spot in Funchal! 🍜🎨 🍛 The ramen here is a real treat with a great variety to choose from, and the awesome bonus of being able to customize your spice level! Beyond the ramen, they have a wide selection of other delicious asian dishes, from rice bowls to noodles and tempting desserts – perfect for a fun dinner with friends. 🤵‍♀️ While the service could be a tad more organized when they're busy, the food arrives at your table surprisingly quickly, even when the place is packed! 💸 The prices feel spot-on for the generous portions they serve. 🐾 Sadly, it's not a pet-friendly spot indoors, but they do have a few tables outside.

We discovered Shifu Ramen completely by accident, and what a great surprise it was! The ramen was absolutely delicious — rich broth, perfect noodles, and authentic flavors that felt straight from Japan. We also tried dessert, which was just as good and a lovely way to finish the meal. The whole experience felt genuine and cozy, and we’ll definitely be coming back!

The best Japanese restaurant — not just on Madeira! We live close and coming here regularly at least once a week since it opened. Their crispy chicken, miso soup, and delicious rice are our go-to lunch choice. The staff is incredibly kind and the atmosphere is lovely. Highly, highly recommended!

Anime-themed decor gives the place a fun vibe, and you can sit outside too. Service was fast and attentive (it wasn’t too busy when we went), and the staff were really kind. Food was tasty, the gyozas were my favorite. The chicken dish I had could’ve used a bit more meat, but my friends really enjoyed their ramen. Drinks menu wasn’t fully updated with what they had in stock, but that’s a minor thing. Prices feel fair for the quality and portion sizes. Overall, a nice spot for ramen or Japanese-style dishes, with friendly service and a cool atmosphere.

We had the Spicy Beef Ramen at Shifu Madeira and it was absolutely fantastic! The broth was rich and flavorful with just the right amount of spice to warm you up without overpowering the taste. The beef was tender and perfectly cooked, while the noodles had that perfect bite that makes ramen so comforting. The presentation was beautiful and you could tell a lot of care went into each detail. The atmosphere of the restaurant is cozy and inviting, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. It really felt like a place where both the food and the service come from the heart. If you’re in Madeira and craving authentic, flavorful ramen, Shifu is definitely the spot to go. I am very picky regarding ramen and I have to say you nailed the job. Very good ramen, super tasty broth, noodles had the correct "chewyness" and the garnish was also nice. The ambience is great, awesome themed restaurant!

We just landed and found this sushi place by the apartment we rent for this weeks. Mariana and Steven (the staff) were super nice, friendly, and helpful with the menu and also gave us bunch for recommendations for our trip here! The sushi was really good! Very recommended!

They were cold pre-cooked sushi. Isn't the worst, but they didn't tell us beforehand that sushi weren't fresh. We went at 16 o'clock. The headchef wasn't there and two other Nepali guys didn't seem to know most of the stuffs. For example, the bank card machine wasn't working. So, had to send then money to revolut after they called the headchef.

I must say, I'm very surprised. I was craving for some sushi and it was delicious, but what i loved the most was the service. Mariana met my expectations and beyond, service was super fast, she was really friendly, one of the best.

We traveled in the world, surprisingly discovered the most affordable and amazing good Sushi is in Madeira. For the same quality and quantity would cost a fortune in the US. Most of costumers are local and they intend to keep the secret spot to themselves, even the location is right next to the park and downtown of Funchal. What can I say? More for my family 😆 My kids LOVE food at Sakai and I do need take some pics before we started for next visit.

We had the vegan sushi, vegan poke bowl and gyoza and they were some of the best we've had (and we get them a lot at home!). It was so good we had to come back again. We took the food to go to have on our balcony as the atmosphere in the shopping centre doesn't do this gorgeous food justice. The chef was so attentive and explained what each piece of sushi was - lovely to see him to take such pride in his work. Would definitely recommend if you're nearby

Fantastic quality and moderate prices. This place is a nice surprise for me. The cost of the plate from photo is 11 euros. Fish is fresh and tender. Staff is friendly. Definitely recommended 👍

Wow! I did not expect this quality for a sushi place in a shopping mall. The fish was fresh, rice was perfect and the overall taste was amazing. We had 2 poke bowls, a surprise 12 piece sushi box and 5 pieces veggie gyoza for 2 persons, which was more than enough. It’s a shame that our vacation is ending, otherwise we would have definitely come back!

I had the vegan 16pcs selection and it was made to order, took 10 minutes and was super fresh and very tasty. The service was really friendly too and I would certainly recommend it.

The sushi was really enjoyable, the rice was cooked really well and the fish was fresh. We had the vegetable noodles, spicy roll and California roll. We also tried their salmon sashimi with Parmesan out of sheer curiosity and it turned out to be an amazing combo! Super tasty, highly recommend to anyone looking to grab a quick and tasty bite!
