Very good food and quantity for the price, they have specialty coffee with a nice variety - v60, filter and brew if i remember well and the taste was good - one could feel the notes quite well. Would’ve loved if the banana bread wasn’t too crumbly but the portion was quite big.

One of the best cafes in Madeira, it's as simple as that. The food is outstanding, the service excellent and it's stylish as hell. Finally it's also a bargain. The prices could be a lot higher for what comes out of the kitchen here. One of the menu options I recommend is the beetroot humus on artisan toast, which is served with a superb salad and topped with feta cheese and seeds. Flavours are superb. This cafe is a must visit if you're in Madeira.

Artsy place, yummy food, cozy atmosphere.. What else would you need? On the other side there is a store full of beautiful art pieces, postacards, paintings and many more. Perfect for a comfy brunch 🎨

As I am Vegan I heard good things about this place and usually I am not one to leave a bad review but I was quite disappointed by this place. We went to their other location and it was so amazing but this did not compare. We were sitting near the kitchen so we overheard they made a mistake in our order after we were already waiting for 15 - 20 mins and they didn't even inform us. Overall we waited around 25 minutes for an avo toast and a wrap and they were both pretty average, not much taste to them and not very big portion. The juice was really nice but I would recommend their other location over this one.

A promising spot with potential, but the experience didn’t fully deliver this time.

A great cafe in the heart of Funchal. It's a cozy, clean space where you can admire the art while feasting on a beautiful, delicious dish. The avocado toast and the hummus salad plate are two dishes we tried and recommend, as well as the macchiato. Plus, there's an art gallery/shop located in the back you can check out, which is very fun!

We absolutely love these queijadas. The first time we tried them was at the Christmas market in Funchal, and they’re honestly the best you’ll find anywhere on Madeira. They’re handmade, with fantastic quality and care. We’ve come back to Madeira and bought them straight from the factory this time, so we can take some home to England as souvenirs. Well done!

Really good coffee place. Highly recommend to get either breakfast, brunch of something sweet with coffee. Staff is very kind and show skill. The cakes are really good and tasty too, and for a great price. You can try the local Madeira cheesecake here! You can sit inside or outside. In the sun or shadow. After suffering 4 days of food trauma in hotel enotel, we finally found this little gem for breakfast, coffee and dessert. Great service, reasonably priced and delicious. Our vacation just got better because of them.

A delightful cafe and bakery walking distance from resorts district. Spacious seating inside and outside. Fantastic service. I didn’t try their cakes but they look mouth watering. This place is also open early on Sunday when most other cafes are either closed or open late. A warning though - I was there Sunday morning and this swarm of 15-20 runners came and the place got extremely busy all of a sudden. As is the custom in Portugal - you eat/drink first and pay later. An issue, however, became that now there was a line up to pay when you wanted to leave! And then a customer also came a bit upset that he was waiting for his coffee for 20 mins. And there is only main person who takes the orders and payments. So, if it’s busy, get the payment out of the way when you’re ordering so you can leave whenever you want without delay. Clean washrooms. Ever since I discovered this place, I came everyday during our stay in Funchal. Highly recommended!

Gluten free options for cakes available. I chose the mango cheesecake and it was delicious. I bought it to take away along with a gluten bread roll with several to choose from. They have an outdoor seating area opposite the shop with good views serving sandwiches, cakes and drinks.

Cakes are amazing!!! so fresh, atmosphere is authentic, they have nice kind of terrace with view I loved it, it’s a must visit in Funchal cons: too many people, so plan your time they have coffee take away, but it’s 7/10 If they had a bit better coffee I would look for an apartment nearby next time:)

We came to Avista for lunch and had a lovely experience. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, and the setting is truly stunning with a superb view that makes the meal even more special. Service was attentive and professional, though we did find the warmth and friendliness a little less than what we’ve enjoyed at some other restaurants in Madeira. Overall, a great spot for a quality lunch with an unbeatable view.

A beautiful position, we enjoyed cocktails before our meal with wonderful views. The food was typical for a Michelin restaurant, tasty but small portions. The ambience was great. We had booked a table for 2 of us at 7pm, our first course came at 8pm and our main course at 9pm. The waiter apologised for the delay but told us there were more affluent customers to be served first. Certainly there were people who had come in after us and were on their dessert before we had our main course. They deducted the cost of 2 glasses of wine for the delay. I appreciate their honesty although I am not sure how they measured affluence. Don't think we will go back, a shame really as a lovely place

Excellent food and service. We went for the 6 course innovation experience menu and we were so full at the end of it. Our table was booked for 9:30pm but we weren’t seated til after 9:45 but the service was very good

Tealightful experience at Jasmine Tea House. It was a rainy day during our walk and this sanctuary provided brewtiful warmth and hospitality. The quick service meant there wasn’t oolong wait for our tea. The kind owner was infusiatic about tea and a qualitea dog greeted us on arrival.

What an amazing place to drop in along a Levada walk , fantastic views from the very well kept small garden only ruined by the dog and cat poo on the grass that nobody picked up .Vast choice of amazing teas well worth a visit ,will be back again I'm sure 👍

Jasmin Tea House is a really lovely place to have a cup of tea and eat delicious cake. The owner is a very polite and pleasant person, and the atmosphere in the tea house is welcoming and makes you want to sit and relax for hours. The variety of teas is great as well as the cake and icecream we got there. We loved the terrace with a wonderful sea view and many, many flowers and plants. If this tea house was in my hometown, I‘d visit everyday!

Wonderful experience. We sat on the balcony with a lovely view of Funchal. But it was the food that blew us away. From the flavorful bolo de caco to the juicy espatada to the scabbard fish curry to the fried shrimp, everything we ordered was excellent. We came during an early and quiet evening on last week's rainy Tuesday, so the restaurant wasn't really busy. At first, we were served by a lovely lady. We appreciated her recommendations and overall service. The other waiters did not speak that well English but still provided a decent service. We really enjoyed all the dishes, tried some new things like the locally grown very sour Tamarillo fruit. We enjoyed our visit and would recommend this restaurant. Thanks

Busy bustling conveniently located cafe serving an array of decadent pastries, cakes, and treats. We had a city walking tour booked at 10am and arrived early so needed a spot to wait and get a coffee. This place is very modern and very busy. There’s seating outside and some inside too. And there’s free Wi-Fi & clean toilets downstairs. Sitting outside is a perfect people watching spot. This was the perfect start to our day .

I had so many great coffees during my stay in Madeira, but this was the worse so far. First was just boiled milk with chocolate on the top. The second try was no better. Paid 3€. Very disappointing.

Didn’t like my experience. Staff was not friendly, Cake with strawberries was not tasty, cream was too fat, and the dough was tasteless. But cappuccino was very tasty and big. Also, prices are not high.

A good bakery, with nice atmosphere and a wide selection of cakes, breads and pastries at a fair price. The taste of the pastries was okay, but I had better ones in other places (I tried the Queijada and the Tarte de Lima, not all the rest) They lose 1 star mainly on communication, they do display all of their prices, available for all to check, but on a paper on the wall, not in front of each pastry and bread. So I checked the paper first, saw their prices were fair (many places not displaying place mean they are trying to rob their customers, but not this place fortunately!) and went to buy what I wanted. Other issue, they do not write what the name of their cakes and pastries, you need to ask or need to describe what you want... They speak good english but still would be much easier to just read the name of what you want, and everybody would have their task easier.

First of all very unwelcoming towards tourists. English communication is not possible, but even worse is that these people’s attitude and body language when you’re trying to communicate is like “not again a tourist, please don’t talk to me, and let this conversation be over very soon”. Second of all I forgot to take a ticket with a number, which you’ve got to take before you wait in line. The outcome was that when it was my turn, they asked me to take a ticket first and wait in line again. Unfortunately I can’t be positve of the food anymore because this was service-wise a very bad experience.

As I see it, not the best bakery in Madeira, it is just ok, not sure if I just had bad luck. Coffee was ok, queijadas didnt taste that great, it felt like it was laying there for days. I think Penha d'Aguia or Pão & Companhia are better options if you want to drink a coffe and have a nice traditional cake.

An excellent bakery in the center of Funchal where my wife and I had breakfast almost every day while staying in an apartment nearby. We would usually start with a natural orange juice, followed by a sandwich, coffee and finally one of the pastries. Everything delicious, and the pastries really top quality. Very affordable prices, a lot of clients all the time, notably locals - always an indication of a good quality.

I’ve had Portuguese egg tarts in many places around the world and three times elsewhere in Madeira, but this is THE BEST egg tart I’ve ever tried! If you’re here for the first time - try their traditional and passion fruit egg tart. They will blow your mind. I did not take a photo of the passion fruit tart, as we almost immediately finished it..

BRILLIANT WEE EATERY! This place is exactly what's good about Madeira. A smart eatery offering great sandwiches, superb cakes and good coffee. And the service is as good as you can get. It is also a great place to people-watch from! I had a sweet croissant covered with icing and almonds, a large latte and an icy-cold can of coke. The bill was 6.80 euros. Absolutely tremendous experience. Highly recommended when in Funchal.

First visit to this café on what Tima calls Restaurant St. We've had a few meals on this street. Popped in for post shopping drinks. Food in excellent value and menu of the day about 6.50€. Madge on a large Coral and Tima on a mixed fruit cidre. Lots of outdoor seating under a sun shade. Getting a nice breeze. Good, friendly service. Drink and watch the world go by.

Been coming to Funchal for many years but this is actually the first time at Padaria Da Familia. The service was super friendly, they made our sandwich to order - Bolo de Caco with ham and cheese which was great! ... It was a great stop for coffee, breakfast and pastries. Highly recommend.

We came here especially for Pao de Deus, as it is not common across the island. It’s not the best, neither the coffee. In addition, the place is located in a very noisy area, right next to the bus station.

Recently renovated place with excellent products! Diverse confectionery and very beautiful. We love having breakfast or a snack there. The toast is wonderful, the sweet bread is delicious, and the freshly squeezed orange juice is super fresh. Prices are cheap compared to other places on the island, and the quality is superior. We paid only 2.5€ for a natural orange juice.

Amazing Experience at Confeitaria Na Avenida! I had a wonderful time at Confeitaria Na Avenida. This cozy cafe is conveniently located beside the Pestana Casino Hotel, making it a perfect stop for a quick treat or a relaxed coffee break. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the selection of pastries and beverages is outstanding. Everything was fresh and delicious. I highly recommend it to anyone staying nearby or passing through. A true gem!

We went there for a quick lunch before our flight. The food was great with beautiful presentation. You must try tuna on the rock. Lots of tables and seating area. Good for date nights or just chilling with friends.

We stayed for dinner because menu looked attractive and we were living just above. They way how everything looked we expected higher than average quality of food and service. Didn't happened. We ordered file of Black Scabbard fish and pasta with shrimps. Fish was testy, but portion was extremely! small. Pasta wasn't the best one. On a positive side - Sangria was good and Tapas quite testy. So, the total experience was average and I would not recommend this restaurant for dinner. There are dozens other choices around.

Drinks and dinner here with friends last night. Liked the atmosphere in the cool alleyway ( checked on the rooftop bar but no view, too hot etc - not great ). Drinks and tapas ok. Main courses a bit unimaginative. Between it being a hotel bar/restaurant and being closer to the tourist areas, thought it was more expensive than normal for Funchal

We came here pretty much every day during the week we stayed in Funchal. Mainly because it was super convenient (Airbnb was 30 seconds away from here) and Google maps ratings were good. I can now confidently say that this place is just great. Very nice selection of pastries (we didn't have a single one that wasn't very good). Solid omelettes and toasts. Good coffee and excellent fresh orange juice. On top of that, very good service and good atmosphere inside. Didn't take too many pictures but definitely recommend this place. Just authentic and good (and not too basic or uncreative). Stop by if you get a chance.

Recommended by a friend to try out the pastel de nata. It was warm and crispy on the inside, creamy for the custard. It was perfectly cooked but too sweet for me. Tried other bakery items. The iced chocolate was bottled, not freshly made. The ice cream balls were tasty though. Friendly staff and welcoming service.

We stayed in an apartment just upstairs from this bakery for 1 week and went for breakfast and coffee every single day. This place is A-MA-ZING! All the baked goods are delicious and the vibe to eat there is great. Even their salads and cooked omelettes are great also. You can sit right next to where the bakers are making their next batch of croissants or bread-rolls. Would recommend. As I really want this place to succeed, a couple points of improvement. The waitresses try their hardest to get your order to you as quick as possible, however their processes can be inefficient. Sometimes they insist on taking your order at the counter, and then only paying after you have eaten. That means customers line up at the counter twice and can make for a long line at times. They will generally take 1 order at the counter at a time, fulfil that order and deliver to the table before taking the next order. Perhaps if there are a few customers waiting to order they could take all the orders first, have everyone sit, and then fulfil all the orders together. That being said, we were on holidays and were more than happy to wait. We loved this place so much!

Petit Four no 4 Estrada Monumental (opposite Reids Palace) I had the BEST SHORTBREAD I have ever eaten here. Labeled as Broas de Areia in very well packaged boxes by the ice cream counter.Absolutely fresh and pops of divine flavour that melt in your mouth.I ate the whole lot. Thanks guys. I Will be back.

Excellent spot in the center of Funchal to stop for a drink and a bite to eat. The prices are very affordable, and the atmosphere is great. The service is excellent, and the restroom facilities are super clean. As a tourist, it's a perfect place to try typical local sweets and drinks, like Poncha and the refreshing maracuja's ice tea.

Location is great, the outside terrace charming, but service is really slow and the food a complete disaster. Precut bread, cheese and ham drenched in mayo and semi-cold. My six year old son cooks better. Just don’t eat here. Grab a coffee (decent) enjoy the outside.

Really great assortment of delicious cakes and other pastries. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend it and will be there in a regular basis.

After mistakenly giving me a Frozen coffee Frappé, when I asked for a Frozen Vanilla Frappé with caramel topping, they decided to tell me that was the right order. The receipt didn’t even point out the topping. This is the ‘Frozen Vanilla Frappé with caramel topping’, and the other picture is the menu. Other than that, the prices are reasonable and the place looks rather nice.

Great place for a quick bite and a coffee. There is a good choice of sandwiches and toasts. We went there multiple times during our stay. There is also a nice terrace to enjoy your meal and the staff is lovely.

A wonderful experience all around! We had coffee and a small snack – everything was excellent. The coffee was rich and flavorful, and the food was delicious and nicely prepared. The service was especially great: friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. Prices were more than fair considering the high quality. Highly recommended.

Absolutely delicious food, beautiful location, friendly service, clean, and pleasant atmosphere. It’s a bit pricier than nearby restaurants, but the charm of this place and its rich, tasty menu more than make up for it. Highly recommend!

Very good and tasty food but only 2 personel to attend about 25 tables and counter. Had to wait over 30 min for our order (3 coffee and 2 sandwiches plus 1 pastel). We would still recommend due to quality of food served.

Didn’t have cups for coffee take away (latte), no fresh Portuguese moist croissants in offer. You can find much better bakery at Funchal

Our go to bakery whilst being in Madeira. Been here most days for lunch. The brownies are incredible 😍 amazing value for money.

What a place I rarely write reviews but when I do it's because places deserve extra special mention It's clear the pandemic has made business tough for the country but gems like this deserve to see custom. Once found we ended up going back each day as the pastries and coffee were so incredible, and such amazing value (1 euro coffee, a lot of cakes for around 1 euro) Sandwiches, bolo d arroz, apple tarts etc were just phenomenal - ended up taking a lot back home with us 😁😁

The pastries are nice and the coffee is good, but the service needs improvement. When requesting a steak sandwich they will not make it with gluten free bread (even though they stock this bread), not a big deal but slightly strange, the steak sandwich is slightly too salty with too much gristle in the meat. When I asked for a take away cup for my coffee as I had to leave unexpectedly, they charged €0.14 for it. Considering we were a group who eaten, it surprises me to nit pick for a cup, hence this review. The customer service was the worst aspect, not very welcoming, tense, and unaccomodating. Overall the food was good (not amazing) but the service let it down.

Super tasty freshly baked bread! I was a little worried that I would have to cue, when I didn't know the name of the bread I wanted in Portugese. However the lady come up to the counter and I could just point out the items I wanted. Buy the way super affordebly, 64 cents for two pieces of bread. Really fresh. 🤩🥖

Friendly helpful staff. Just popped in out of the rain for a cappuccino and a cake. Very nice coffee and tasty cake. Back again for an afternoon coffee and a different cake. Busy outside but managed to get a table as someone was just paying their bill. Very nice coffee and again different friendly staff.

High prices and medium quality. Pastel de nata quote blend, cakes and capuccino too sweet. Higher prices with lower quality than average than other pastry.

Great shop opens bright and early at 7am so we stopped by before we headed out for our hike. You get all kinds of baked goods, Sandwiches & pastries along with deserts. It’s a nice neighborhood sit down spot or you can grab and go.

Very nice pastry/bread shop! We went there for lunch which was very good and quite cheap! The staff was friendly and spoke English well. The pastries itself also looked delicious, couldn't stop myself from ordering one or two for later.

We can't imagine our morning without a cup of coffee. Luckily we stayed not far from this pastry shop. And we could enjoy the fresh cakes and strong coffee our mornings. There were an experienced and attentive staff. Perfect place to visit with your family or friends.

We did not stayed at the hotel. We only used the bakery and coffee. We ate multiple times here, sandwiches are good, pastry is very good, coffee is not for our taste, but is expected because is not an speciality coffee. Waiter was really nice and with a good english.

Excellent cup of coffee for a traditional price (below 2 euro). Amazing pastry to choose from and on top of it all, a comfortable terras with a few seats with sea view. Service was given with a smile and a joke. We had a refill after our first coffee;)

It's a great place to grab a sweet snack. Pastry is good and I highly recommend the "filled plamiers" Space is well decorated and clean. It gets three stars because the staff is not the best, looks like they really are making an effort and are not friendly.

I'm very sorry to give a low score, as we had really high expectations. We visited one day to buy some bread and pastries, which were absolutely amazing. Another day we came for breakfast, which didn't go great at all. Espresso is good, but cappuccino is very disappointing. Loads of milk that doesn't even remotely have any coffee taste. The ham and cheese toast was the worst. It had zero butter, which made it terribly dry. We had to cut off the crust. We also ordered waffles with strawberry jam, whipped cream and ich cream and got a waffle without the jam, which was pretty dry.  When i asked about it, the simply told me they didn't have any jam or fruit. After we insisted, I got some Nutella instead .

Good bakery, however croissants looks a bit dry (not like traditional very moist yellow croissants). I got paõ de Deus and it was delicious and huge :)

This is an absolute must visit!!! The pastries are to die for, the coffee was excellent too, the location, personnel, the building was just lovely. And to top that off, the price was great too! We had two dopios and a few desserts for under 10€ for two people. Highly recommend

Great spot for coffee and pasta del nata. Amble down Santa Maria then arrive upon this small cafe with a few tables outside. Watch the world go by

Coffee in the UK is mostly disappointing. Rubbish chain places which are expensive and serve huge measures, or milky, syrupy stuff for people that don't like coffee. Southern Europe does coffee properly. Espresso, or short coffees, black or white. That's it. No flat whites, lattes, or frappacinos. This place is great, and all the bread and pastries look amazing.

Small local pastry shop with a big set of pastries and home made breads. It is placed quite centrally. The shop is quite small but it offers lovely local flavours. I suggest to come here since you can find friendly people working in this place. We had 2 pasteis de nata and 2 cappuccino for 3,30 euro. I liked it so much and come back for sure!

Super tasty, not a fancy bakery or anything. But! Good coffee, a nice waiter and a great idea if pickniking by the ocean is something you enjoy doing. We recommend the Madeira style cheesecake as well as the rice cake that looks like a brioche :D

Freshly baked deliciousness and great coffee. Came here several mornings for breakfast. Many locals come in the morning for a Bica (espresso) and a chat - you'll get a lovely cultural experience. We used to go at 7am before our day out on hikes. This is when the bakery is freshly stocked but apparently it's open 24/7. You can choose from a selection of sweet pastries, rolls, bread, pasteis de nata (amazing!) And they will also make a fresh sandwich for you. A must go - super friendly staff too. Very reasonably priced too!
