Armazém do Sal is a charming restaurant located in the heart of Funchal, Portugal, housed within a former salt warehouse. The restaurant boasts an inviting ambiance with wooden beams and stone walls. It offers a small but dedicated vegan menu featuring three main dishes including soya moussaka with roasted aubergine, lentil salad with roasted vegetables, and barley salad with caramelized baby vegetables.
Had a lovely meal with the family while on vacation. There was live saxophone music with classics like Your Song and Yesterday. The food was terrific, and we chose the perfect wine pairing—surprisingly affordable too. The waiter was a little too attentive with refilling our water and wine glasses ;) just two sips and they were topped up again. But overall, it was all very nice, tastefully and friendly.

Fantastic. Visiting from London / South East UK, and pleased to say our palates were well looked after. Surprised to see someone describe it as horrendous, that feels harsh and unnecessary tbh ! We had one Fish Lover and one Meat Lover set, with a wine pairing for the meat. Sat outside. Lovely staff, and the live guitarist was perfect background to a thoughtful and genuinely tasty meal Had booked thru Google Maps, having experienced issues with Open Table. Only nudge is that the veg’s probably could be tidied up in prep, but the laminated menus, signage from the street and overall branding could do with a refresh to better reflect the quality of the experience !
T — Google review
The service was top notch. The cooking was perfect and I didn't see any faults with it. I just didn't love my meal. I think it's one of those times where you didn't order the best option off the menu for yourself lm
Duane B — Google review
Credit where credit is due: the service here is absolutely amazing. The staff are incredibly friendly, polite, and genuinely make you feel valued – 10/10 for the team. Unfortunately, the food was a real disappointment and, for us, the single underwhelming dining experience we’ve had in Madeira so far. The fact they were on Michelin Guide will certainly mislead you into thinking you’re going to have an amazing meal. • Couvert: The bread and focaccia were served cold, not even at room temperature, and the butter portion was so small it was barely enough for one person, let alone to share. • Appetizers: We ordered beef tartare and ceviche. Both dishes were bland and lacked basic seasoning. The tartare felt like had not even salt or pepper, making it feel like eating raw meat straight from the butcher. The ceviche was completely overpowered by purée and sorbet, masking the fish flavor and textures entirely. • Main dishes: We had the prawn risotto and the cheeks. Both were “okay,” but had we skipped the starters, we might have been less disappointed. The risotto had plenty of prawns and decent flavor, but the rice was far too wet. The cheeks were tender, but the sides were plain, and the mashed potatoes had a taste that simply wasn’t for us. In short, while the service is exceptional, the food quality does not match the prices charged and let my wife and I very disappointed. For half of the price you can easily enjoy far better meals, with amazing views, elsewhere in Madeira. Can’t recommend a visit here.
Fernando C — Google review
Everywhere around the islands, people are very kind. Here the staff's hospitality is above and beyond. It's a weird alley, but please enter and book a table here. You won't be disappointed.
Kalum O — Google review
We had a fab experience here. They catered for my wife’s allergy needs 100%. Lovely people looking after us, lovely surroundings, lovely live music in the background.
Mark M — Google review
This is a really lovely restaurant. It was quiet Sunday evening. Food was delicious, one meat fixed choice and one a la carte black scabbard fish. Excellent dessert mille feuille. Recommend and would definitely return
Alison — Google review
Service here was amazing and friendly, the atmosphere was great, but the food didn't really live up to expectations. The flavor combinations didn't work and the plating was confusing. We also found the dessert to be average. However, our experience was saved by the staff. Very generous wine pours and we very much enjoyed the ride back in their vintage car! Overall a good experience.

Breakfast restaurant
Art Food Corner Madeira is a charming café located in downtown Funchal, close to the ocean. The café offers a variety of delightful starters and snacks that showcase the flavors of Madeira cuisine, such as lapas grelhadas and bolo do caco. In addition to their delicious food, they are known for serving amazing coffee and smoothies. The café has a colorful decor with an eclectic, arty vibe and also features unique artwork by local artists.
I went in for a late brunch and couldn’t have made a better choice! I ordered an espresso tonic, a glass of kombucha, and the chicken sandwich—everything was fresh, flavorful, and really well-prepared. Despite the place being packed, my order came out in just a few minutes. Great vibe, fast service, and delicious food!
Kristián S — Google review
Very good food and quantity for the price, they have specialty coffee with a nice variety - v60, filter and brew if i remember well and the taste was good - one could feel the notes quite well. Would’ve loved if the banana bread wasn’t too crumbly but the portion was quite big.
Ioana D — Google review
One of the best cafes in Madeira, it's as simple as that. The food is outstanding, the service excellent and it's stylish as hell. Finally it's also a bargain. The prices could be a lot higher for what comes out of the kitchen here. One of the menu options I recommend is the beetroot humus on artisan toast, which is served with a superb salad and topped with feta cheese and seeds. Flavours are superb. This cafe is a must visit if you're in Madeira.
Dr S — Google review
Artsy place, yummy food, cozy atmosphere.. What else would you need? On the other side there is a store full of beautiful art pieces, postacards, paintings and many more. Perfect for a comfy brunch 🎨
Viktoria M — Google review
As I am Vegan I heard good things about this place and usually I am not one to leave a bad review but I was quite disappointed by this place. We went to their other location and it was so amazing but this did not compare. We were sitting near the kitchen so we overheard they made a mistake in our order after we were already waiting for 15 - 20 mins and they didn't even inform us. Overall we waited around 25 minutes for an avo toast and a wrap and they were both pretty average, not much taste to them and not very big portion. The juice was really nice but I would recommend their other location over this one.
Flora S — Google review
★★★☆☆ Nice atmosphere, but a few letdowns Art Food Corner has a lovely and well-designed space with a great vibe, definitely the highlight of the visit. Unfortunately, the coffee was average, around 3-star quality, and by 12 pm they still didn’t have any pastries available. It might have been a delivery issue, but it was a bit disappointing. A promising spot with potential, but the experience didn’t fully deliver this time.
Vahid S — Google review
Great breakfast place. Vegan and non vegan options. Nice coffee, good vibes all round. Easy to get to and wheelchair accessible as there’s outside seating.
B A — Google review
A great cafe in the heart of Funchal. It's a cozy, clean space where you can admire the art while feasting on a beautiful, delicious dish. The avocado toast and the hummus salad plate are two dishes we tried and recommend, as well as the macchiato. Plus, there's an art gallery/shop located in the back you can check out, which is very fun!

MadMarket Restaurante is a unique dining spot located on the first floor of a shopping center in Estrada Monumental. Despite its unassuming exterior, this cozy restaurant offers a blend of market and dining experiences. The interior features wooden shelves stocked with fresh produce and wine, creating a warm atmosphere. Known for serving some of the best tuna in Funchal, MadMarket also offers delectable roasted octopus and grilled squid dishes.
We had a perfect dinner in this Restaurant! Food was great, service was top notch! Anabela and the rest of the team made us feel extra special 🙏🙏 The selection of wine is very extensive, there is parking just around the corner, the restaurant is easy to reach. 5/5

I had a really pleasant experience at this restaurant. The food is delicious, fresh, and well-prepared, with great attention to detail in every dish. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive – always ready to offer recommendations and make sure everything is just right. Definitely a place I’d love to come back to and one I highly recommend to anyone looking for tasty food and excellent service.
Robertina T — Google review
I saw the menu for this restaurant just outside our hotel our first day and thought it looked great. After one of our longer tour days, we decided it'd be a good choice since it was so close to where we're staying. It's located on Floor 1 (which is what we would typically consider the second floor) of a shopping center. We almost changed our minds because there is no outdoor seating, but I'm glad we stuck with the plan because everything was wonderful! Service was friendly and helpful, we enjoyed our drinks (a cider and kombucha), and the food was delicious too. We ordered breads and butters plus a meat and cheese plate to start, then the braised tuna plus octopus rice for our entrees. The tuna was definitely our fave--cooked perfectly with a flavorful crust. We also enjoyed the sides that accompanied our meal. We were too full to try dessert but there were some lovely looking cakes in the case! Would definitely recommend a stop here--don't let the location within the shopping center deter you. It was still comfortable and a nice cozy atmosphere.
Meredith B — Google review
Lovely dinner at this hidden gem. Don’t let it’s secret location put you off, you won’t just stumble across it as it’s on the first floor of a little shopping mall. The staff were super lovely and very attentive and we had a lovely chat. The food was reasonably priced for the quality and we enjoyed everything we ordered. We had the sausage charcuterie to start with the bread. Then a grilled tuna and a black scabbard fish. Enjoyed the entire experience and fully recommend a visit!
Sara M — Google review
Good food but could be better. For example we ordered medium rare tuna, yet as the pan was hot upon arrival, by the time we started to eating it, it was more like well done than medium rare. Service was almost excellent, they were attentive, friendly and polite. However we had a pushy waiters who tried too hard to upsell which wasn't great. Overall certainly worth a visit.
Ash R — Google review
Fantastic food! A little difficult to find inside the mall, but a fantastic place for food! Prices are super reasonable, especially for the area it is in. Food was delicious, everything on the menu sounded good and everything we saw looked delicious. Can’t say enough good, Anabel and the other staff were very friendly, accommodating and liked to have a laugh. Would definitely recommend for anyone!
Dawson L — Google review
So... I have had Madmarket on my radar since last year when I found it on by looking for restaurants on Google - but we didn't get there last year so it was top of our list this year and oh was it worth the wait!!! We were a walk in - not always the easiest - but we were lucky to get a table. Our main server was Anabela and from the off, she made us and our girls feel very, very welcome. She made a fuss of our youngest - who is a hard nut to crack. She explained the wines - the wines are all round the wall so you pick, pay a very reasonable price and corkage. When it came to food, we chose a meat and cheese platter to share, bread basket, eldest daughter had steak, youngest daughter had a meat and cheese board as her main, I had the beef pica-pau and hubby had the crusted seared tuna. Hubby chose a wine and eldest and I chose the homemade lemonade 😋 Daughter loved her steak, youngest devoured most of her board, the tuna steak was lovely and the pica-pau was divine. The sauce it comes in... oh my days! I could have licked the bowl! The pica-pau and steaks also came with a side salad - the best side salad I've ever had! It was simple, delicious, not over dressed. Even my eldest who has never eaten a salad devoured hers! Honestly, there wasn't a scrap of food left at all! It was the best meal we've had and have booked in for our last night before we go home. Service wise, nothing was too much trouble. Our youngest had really liked some small salami that we had on our board so I asked Anabela if there was any chance we could purchase her a separate small portion. She very kindly went and found which salami we were referring to and brought Sophia a small portion of her own. The gesture was very much appreciated. Anabela also came and explained there was a small delay with our mains as they had just received a delivery. This wasn't a problem and appreciated her letting us know. I can imagine if you weren't updated, it would be a little frustrating however for us, not a problem. Onto desserts, our eldest had something passionfruit... it was like a cheesecake but not... I'll find out and update. Husband had the lime and caramel cake. Both were delicious! The decor is quite industrial - we like this. Its an unusual, interesting space and larger than meets the eye. Round the corner is a space where they hold culinary classes and further back is a space surrounded by books with a couple of games tables. As a book lover, this caught my eye. I understand it is the intention to open up 'the library' at some point. This restaurant is one you need to seek out as it isn't particularly visible from the road which is a shame. It deserves to be packed out every night. I am glad I discovered it. It will be one we come back to every visit and recommended to all our friends and family that regularly come over. I can't rate it highly enough!
Victoria B — Google review
We had an absolutely lovely meal here. The menu was a great nod to Portuguese food with loads of great choice, the staff were really welcoming and attentive too. The location is slightly odd in a shopping centre but doesn’t detract from the atmosphere at all! Would really recommend eating here!

Portuguese restaurant
Gavino - Restaurante Bar is a restaurant located in a quaint little square in the old town of Funchal, Portugal. It offers varied cuisine with vegan options available. While some visitors were not impressed with the vegan options, others enjoyed the excellent food, such as roasted lamb leg and pork dishes. The service received mixed reviews, with some finding it good and friendly while others felt rushed.
We had a great vegan dinner experience here. For starters we shared the Bolo do Caco and the mushrooms (we have chosen with leek and dried tomatoes, absolutely delicious). Our mains - seitan steak with mushroom sauce and Couscous and the beetroot with coconut) was pretty tasty. The brownie for dessert was to die for, the coffee ice cream was a perfect match. Service is superb, helpful and friendly. Prices and portions absolutely fair. Definitely recommended, we’ll be back soon!
Sven O — Google review
Great vegan options! Ask when you sit down. Food: beautifully presented and delicious. Service: the waiters were good humored and attentive. There was also free music in the square from University students and another restaurant. For me the square was the perfect place to sit and listen to the music and enjoy the atmosphere. (And pet random neighborhood dogs!) But inside the restaurant was also very stylish and some spaces had a view of the square.
Sarah — Google review
Wonderful experience. They have a great variety on the menu, including delicious vegan options. I had the vegan ravioli, it was soo creamy, which comes with a very generous side salad. My husband had the stuffed courgette (not vegan) with fries, and we both really enjoyed. The sweetdreamer mocktail was also delicious, and massive! Slightly more expensive than usual but worth it. Nice atmosphere and service was excellent. We wanted dessert but too full, so hopefully we will go back before our holiday ends. Thank you!!
Isabelle M — Google review
They did a really great vegan ravioli stuffed with vegan cheese! My only complaint is it wish there was more of it. My partner (non vegan) got the seafood risotto and wasn’t super keen. The atmosphere sitting outside was lovely and the staff were great.
Paige C — Google review
Very nice place with high quality food, just from their own organic garden. A lot of work done on the food so highly recommend this place. Lots of vegetarian / vegan options but the place also has fresh fish and meat. The only downside was that they didn't have Cappuccino with vegan milk, 🤓 especially oat milk, despite their vegan food ads. I'd suggest adding it to the menu, and if you need a recommendation, Oatly is the best choice! I'll definitely return. :)
Bliss V — Google review
Amazing food with many vegetarian and vegan options. Quality and taste are outstanding! The service is great, everyone is in a good mood and very friendly. Wonderful place to eat!
Peter — Google review
The bread to start was delicious and the peppermint panacotta was interesting. A beautiful dessert of chocolate mousse covered in candy floss was delicious. The score of 3 is reflective of the main course of pig cheek and cost of EUR25 which we both had.  It looks pretty but the cheek was quite dry and the accompanying chestnut puree too sweet.  The red onion was practically raw which left it too overpowering. As an overall dish it didn't eat well. Sorry. Service was excellent and the staff friendly. With a bottle of wine priced at a reasonable EUR 16.90 this was our most expensive meal in Funchal just over EUR85 for 2 people (1 shared starter of bread, 2 mains, 1 bottle wine,  2 dessert)
Melissa R — Google review
Great for dinner! This restaurant makes their food a piece of art! Ordered: - Duck Magret with veggies and sweet potato mash - Cod with sauce, veggies and a side salad. - Poncha (Passionfruit) - Dessert: Chocolate mouse Recs- I would order everything we got over again! Everything was cooked well with lots of flavor/spice and the poncha was fresh and strong.

The Japanese restaurant Sushimari is a great place to get sushi. The portions are big and the taste is fresh. The service is friendly and the prices are reasonable.
Lovely and quick service. We had the vegetarian menu for ~€17 which included a drink and spring roll. Lots of fresh fruit in our sushi.
Fiona H — Google review
Average food, nothing really exciting about this place. You can find better sushi for a more affordable price in Madeira. This was just okay. Nothing really impressive. Service was average as well, other than the employee getting out of her way chasing me to the exit because I was taking the left over from the 1L bottle of water that I bought.

Really fresh sushi and sashimi and staff are happy to give suggestions as to best dish. Wish I'd had time to try the more traditional sushi although who knew salmon and mango would be a good combining 🤷☺️
Clare — Google review
I found this place through an online recommendation for vegan tourism in Madeira. We had a fantastic lunch at the restaurant with a large plate of completely vegan freestyle sushi (32 pieces for 2 people). The combination of fruits and vegetables was amazing and it was beautifully decorated with edible flowers. The vegan freestyle sushi is not directly mentioned in the menu, only vegetarian, but it was absolutely no problem to ask the waiter for the vegan version. Our group also had the Yakisoba which was equally great! Highly recommend this place!

the vegetarian menu for 16€ was amazing. it included fresh lemonade (not sweet, perfectly refreshing!), vegetarian spring rolls and a lot of great sushi (you can expect great combinations, I had avocado & asparagus, something with mango and everything tasted super fresh and awesome) and coffee. I also tried the profiteroles and can very much recommend them :)) overall, great experience with extremely friendly service!

Basmati Indian restaurant in Funchal offers delicious and authentic Indian food, with a variety of dishes to choose from. The restaurant is new, but the quality of the food makes it worth exploring. The friendly and attentive staff make dining here an enjoyable experience.
Arrived for a late dinner on a weekday evening, the waiter was very polite and took our orders quickly. We shared two meat dishes which I have attached photos of, with two bowls of rice and some naan. The food was brought out quickly and was simply wonderful. The lamb was exquisite. The staff also came around asking if we were satisfied, which is always nice. Please do visit this one for dinner!

Had dinner here today. Friendly staff, tasty food. Usually stick with butter chicken at other restaurants, but this time I decided to get something else. Great decision! Mango lassi is just how we expected it to be. Something to keep in mind while ordering: rice/naan is not included with the curry. That is perfectly fine, of course, but not something I am used to! Great!

Outdoor seating in one of the most beautiful locations in Funchal. The momo was incredible, as were the Tahli, Lamb Curry, and Chicken Tikka. The staff were nice and attentive without being overbearing like many of the other nearby restaurants. If you like Indian or Nepalese food this place is a must.

The restaurant's attention to ingredient selection and preparation has been highlighted as exceptional, making it a must-visit for anyone looking for a unique culinary experience.
Fantastic place for high-class food (vegan-friendly, too) that doesn’t cost the earth. From the moment we stepped in we were treated so well by the wait staff. They asked about allergies, dietary requirements, etc. and made sure to cater to everything. All our meals were incredible. Personal favourite was the mushrooms adobo starter - it had my jaw on the floor with every bite. Flawless meal. Atmosphere is bloody brilliant too.

We had a wonderful experience at Terra! From beginning to end it was just perfect! At reservation I requested our table to be decorated for our anniversary and indeed they prepared a perfect candle light table for us, thank you soo much again 🙂 The food from starter to main course and dessert were just delicious and full of aroma and flavors! We can only recommend to enjoy an evening. The service was excellent and all the staff were so nice and highly professional! Prices are decent for the quality of food and service. PS: They have lots of vegan options to choose from and the taste is amazing. They also ask for allergies which is very nice. Thank you again for a great evening ❤️

This hidden little spot is on the corner, through glass doors, up a hall, through another door and up a set of stairs. When you reach the restaurant, it is very earthy and inviting. The staff are extremely friendly and nice. We ordered two desserts as I have a dairy allergy and they have vegan friendly choices. The menu was a little pricey so we decided to do take away, so we could enjoy a picnic together outside. The vegan panna cota was coconut based but instead of using a cream, they used the flesh. This made the dessert gritty, undesireable as a texture to eat and as it didn’t have any real flavour (other than the coconut) I was disappointed. I think eating a coconut would have been the same but more satisfying. The berry compote that was on th side was delicious, with some pistachios for decoration. The chocolate mousse tasted artificial, like a cheap grocery store mousse. It was not smooth and creamy, was sugary and heavier than expected. The added topping of caramel popcorn unfortunately did not add to the dessert, just made the texture a little more bearable. I would not recommend the vegan desserts from this restaurant. I have been waiting 6 months to try this place and it is something I could have lived without. For the positives, the environment was relaxing in the restaurant, the servers were kind and very friendly, and it was accessible for people who cannot use the stairs.

AMAZING! The best service and food in Madeira. The bread is so fresh and good. The service is something I never imagined. Thank you for this incredible evening. Even though I was a bit sick the waiter was very understanding. Can’t wait to visit again!

The restaurant is hidden from the street, so it is very pleasant to dine here. Reservation is a must. The staff is very kind and the food is just breathtaking. I also recommend you accept their sourdough bread with flavoured butter.

Everything about this restaurant was perfect. The food was sublime! I wanted to try everything from the menu. Octopus was super tender, literally melting in your mouth. The staff was absolutely amazing, doing everything so you have a perfect evening, paying a lot of attention for details. Finally, the garden looks even better than on the picture. All in all, this was our best evening on Maideira.
Kristina L — Google review
I discovered the restaurant through social media, as we always need to plan for vegan options in our travel group. It’s certainly not the kind of place where you get huge portions for a cheap price. Yes, the food was a bit more expensive, but absolutely justified by the quality and the service. It was incredibly delicious. The staff were very attentive and friendly, and the wait times for the food were very short. The quality speaks for itself here. Highly recommended for celebrating a wonderful evening — and in our case, our upcoming farewell — on Madeira!

Our stand out meal from this stay. Discreet and attentive service, great flavours and an ideal venue for ‘mixed’ couples where one prefers veggie and the other is an established carnivore. Relaxed dining in a covered courtyard.

The lunch menu changes daily, offering a variety of options at great value. With outdoor seating facing the main square, it's an ideal spot to enjoy coffee, cocktails, or a satisfying meal.
Had a couple of drinks here. Staff were quick to serve, friendly and the seating was well laid out so you were not crowded. Place clean and airy and we paid a very reasonable price for our drinks

Very good food, that you don't find anywhere else for this price. Love all the service people! And the place is wonderful to take a timeout in Funchal. Thank you❤️❤️❤️ Had the best soup in my life there.

Relaxed atmosphere and courteous service. Food is decent so does price. Had ordered beetroot risotto, garlic butter bread and chick wrap with sweet potato crisp. Along with freshly squeezed orange juice and mixed fruit juice. Orange juice was good and that too without ice. So brownie points for that.

Amazing place. Delicious food. We took daily lunch menu and seriously this was one of the best roasted beef we had in a long time. Great value for money.

This place has a kind of hipster cool vibe. Bright and casual, yet elegant setting. Service is very friendly. I found it perfect for a lunch stop especially if you take the meal of the day. 8€ for the dish, 9.50€ meal+drink. I had Peruvian beef. Portion good sized and flavourful. Beef itself could be softer though.

Visited this place in three different occasions. I have really enjoyed it for a cold beer and some snacks in the late afternoon. When I went there for lunch, I’ve ordered the sandwich with beef which was amazing, however I found the chips not very crisp and my friend did not really enjoy the vegetarian burger. Finally, this place had a pretty amazing band playing one night and lots of young people were attending and enjoying the good vibes

Vegetarian restaurant
Fala Fala Vege Food is a charming eatery located in the heart of Funchal, offering both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu, influenced by the owners' travels, is predominantly vegan and features lunch and dinner options. Signature dishes include falafel tortillas and a vegan burger with fries. The falafel wraps are particularly recommended for their generous fillings of falafel, hummus, veggies, and sauces served with sweet potato fries.
Fala Fala is a very nice and amazing small restaurant, which is quite hidden, but worth to search for it. We (both vegan) enjoyed oriental Tortilla with fries (home made), Hummus with Tortilla and the Falafel with cream. Finally we had a gluten free sweet triangle as desert. Very good taste and super friendly staff. Prices are fair and we will come back for sure when we will be in Funchal next time.

Everything vegan! We love that!!! - The staff was very friendly! - There was a comfy vibe! - The food was there in no time, and delicious! Very fresh! Never had such a fresh orange juice! 🍊 The burger and falafel tortilla was made with love, and we tasted that! 🩷 The Brownie was amazing and still a bit warm! Loved it!

One of my favorite places in Funchal. It's not easy to get veggie or vegan local food on the island. Fala Fala has amazing flavor combining fruit dressing and giving it a local twist. Prices are reasonably. Went here twice while visiting. Waiters are very friendly! And you can also relax in the courtyard...

Fala Fala is a hidden gem tucked away in a quiet little passage and this spot serves up mouthwatering vegan dishes that change daily. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, all smiles and kindness. It’s no surprise this place is so popular—items sell out quickly, so go early! An absolute must-visit while in Funchal!! 🇵🇹🏝️

Fully vegan and vegetarian restaurant which was perfect for us vegetarians struggling to find place with many options to eat. The food was amazing and we had chance to try vegetarian option of traditional Maodeiran dish - Picado! The restaurant is small and cosy and have very homely atmosphere. The waitress was very friendly and helpful.

Fantastic place in a quiet and cozy corner of the centre. I had a soup, a main dish and a dessert and everything was fabulous. Take also a look at the menu of the day, I had a vegan version of bacalhau made out of tofu and it was outstanding.

Maybe you didn't come to madeira to enjoy really good levante food but you should! This is a lovely place with a very nice outdoor courtyard. We loved the atmosphere, staff and food. The hummus is very good and has the "correct" pickles, that are firm, not too salty, not too acidic. The madeirense Wrap with Mango and passion fruit sauce was superb. If you want vegan Pastel de nata, you have to come early. At 14:30 they were already out, unfortunately.

This Japanese restaurant is widely praised for its delicious sushi and sashimi. The standard A La Carte menu offers an affordable alternative to more expensive restaurants in the area. The host was very friendly and helpful, making sure that everyone had a great experience.
Delicious sushi 🍣 love it. Nice stuff, good atmosphere and great food. We come and outside wasn’t free outside table, after asking guy immediately take one table outside and sits us in. We got starter on the house and we ordered freestyle classic sushi with 28 pieces. Also the japan beer was also good. The fishiest was delicious and tender, various types on one boat. Really god. And we also got the fried ice cream at the end 🤩 very good. Thanks.

We popped in for a small dinner last night. The waiter was very friendly and welcoming. He was helpful and gave some recommendations. The noodle dish was okay but nothing special. The vegan sushi was well presented but as well, nothing you would write home about. Portions & prices okay.

We have had diner here 2 times and both times where perfect. Very good sushi and very nice service. I would recommend it to every body. We took a sushi boat the second time. This has several different kinds of sushi on it. If you like sushi this is the place to be.

Fresh, delicious, creative sushi. Gracious hosts… the couple next to us had a miscommunication (that I felt was their fault). The chef had prepared this huge gorgeous sushi boat which they sent back because they don’t eat fish. My heart broke for the waste of food for a small restaurant. The waiter apologized and brought them a complimentary appetizer while they prepared a vegetarian boat. Please support this lovely restaurant. Some of the best sushi we have ever eaten, and on a cute cobbled street in the old town. Five stars!

The waiter was the best, perfect English and very patiently explained the rolls. Sushi presentation was also beautiful. I recommend sitting outside, it’s beautiful!

I can recommend Sakura Sushi in Funchal to anyone who likes sushi. The freestyle menu is perfect if you want to try many different sushi. The service was very courteous and friendly, we got before our order a greeting from the kitchen which was very tasty. The sushi were lovingly arranged in wooden boats and were very tasty! The Coral beer from the barrel rounded the whole thing as refreshment. 70€ for 3 Persons The food came after about 20 minutes. See you again !
Jonas R — Google review
We visited Sakura sushi twice while in Funchal. Both times we opted for a combo option, as the dinner deal was too good to pass on. The boat came with sushi, sashimi, and a deep fried roll. Each roll was unique, and some included fruit. If you’re picky about your sushi, definitely speak the the waiter. They are so knowledge about their (very large) menu and will recommend the right option for you. The sashimi was excellent, but we could have done without some of the fruit+fish combos.

Really tasty vegetarian ramen. The appetizer was also delicious, one of the best tofu I had in a while. The waitress was very kind, despite some language barrier. Decoration is subtle but nice and the price is good. Definitely recommend!

Very fast service and well prepared noodles. Vegetarian options is available which is great! The brought itself wasn't too flavoured but there's always things you can add like salt, pepper and a delicious chilli sauce. The place is very clean and peaceful which is a plus. Will definitely go back.

Nice looking place. We ordered two vegetarian meals. The waitress brought us dumplings for appetizers. They contained meat… When the waitress brought us our meals, we asked if they contain meat too. She said no. But they did. In addition, food was tasteless and the portion’s size was very small. Worst ramen experience we have ever had. Vegetarian meal should not contain meat.

Best noodles I've had in Portugal so far. All the flavors in the Vegetable Yakissoba were awesome, and I was stuffed after eating the whole thing! Staff were wonderful as well, and the place is not crowded at all when I was there from noon to 1pm.
Jonathan W — Google review
It looks nice at first glance, but the ramen is just not good. Broth is watery and without the richness of a proper dashi, the marinated eggs are barely marinated (no discoloration, very little taste of soy), and the noodles feel dry and store-bought. If you like actual ramen, skip this place. If you're looking for just something different than what other places in the area offer, and aren't fussed about the authenticity of food, then it may be worth a try.
Lucien P — Google review
The vegetarian Ramen was really poor with few vegetables and 2 fried gyozas. The seafood version was good. The broth is good and there all all the ingredients to be a nice place (location, space, courtesy..). The problem was the lack ingredients....

Avista Asia, like the Mediteran, is an excellent restaurant. Everything fits together very well here. Service, quality of the wines and food as well as the ambience. We always enjoy coming back to both restaurants. A nice touch is the printed menu that you get to take home with you at the end. In any case, Avista is a recommendation

Really very nice Asian fusion place, in the upper floor of an old villa. Impressive food, excellent service. My only fault is that they do not serve sake by the tokkuri, and the tempura would be better with a variety of vegetables not just aubergine.

We attempted to simply walk in and we were informed that a reservation was required. The manager was really kind and flexible, telling us he could get us a seat in an hour and that in a mean time we go to the bar for drink. After an hour, we met Vanessa who showed us to our spot, which was right on the balcony with a breathtaking view. It is impossible to adequately express the quality of the cuisine, atmosphere, and service. Without question worth visiting, and we plan to come back soon.

Despite its stylish decor, the café offers more than just looks with a range of delicious options. The menu includes non-halal and vegetarian choices like the visually appealing Mya Toast and refreshing Cherry Love tea.
Vibrant café with incredibly fresh food! 🍛 The food here is a standout – you can taste the "made in the moment" freshness and the quality of the thoughtfully sourced, possibly organic, ingredients. While the coffee was just average, the delicious and vibrant food is the real draw. 🤵‍♀️ The service was friendly and efficient, even though it was busy. There was a slight wait due to the fresh preparation and full house, but the staff were clearly working hard. 💸 Prices are reasonable for the city, especially considering the fresh, quality ingredients used. 🐾 While not officially pet-friendly, they kindly accommodated my dog indoors when outdoor seating was unavailable, which was a lovely gesture.

The onion was cut so thick it overpowered the rest of the flavours, and plus it's raw and not fried making it much worse. The two small slices of tomato were just thrown on one side of the burger on top of eachother, the pickles even smaller, and only 2 were put on and on top of eachother also. Worst burger I have had in my life. Chips were fine. That's why you get the 1 extra star at least. First time eating at McDonalds in years, and it was also my last.

Delivery was also easy to arrange, so if you're looking for a night out without having to go out all the time, this could be an option.
I've been eating at this restaurant for about an year now. Only once I had a problem with my delivery and they've done such a great job listening to me as a customer and compensating for the experience that I am happy to come here and leave a review. I'd like to thank especially Mariana, for her great customer service: she was very clear, honest, approachable, and kind from the first contact I had with her. The food at this restaurant is tasty, fresh, and you can see it is done with care. And Mariana's professional approach has most definitely guaranteed my return as a client.

Situated in a narrow street near the cathedral, this franchise offers a two-story establishment with a health store upstairs and a cozy café downstairs. The eatery, resembling more of a snack bar, provides affordable vegetarian and vegan options.
Health food shop and cafe. Very nice freshly made food and drinks.

This place has no gluten-free meals in the cafeteria I'm vegan + Medical Medium + gluten-free and mostly fat-free. My way of eating can be hard to maintain while traveling. While researching for restaurants in Funchal that meet my diet I found this one, and I had great expectations for a hit meal here. So I was quite disappointed when I went there today and asked the staff in the cafeteria if any of the dishes were gluten-free and vegan. Unfortunately, not a single one met these requirements. The one star is for the staff knowing the soy sauce contains gluten.

Cute little shop with a café/ small restaurant- we had the vegan wrap with chicken, a cake and coffee with soy milk - it has a lot of cheap vegan options and everything was delicious!!

There's lunch downstairs. Reasonable priced and healthy. I had vegan lasagne.

They stop taking customers an hour before the actual closing time. Girl looks at you from the inside of the store and tell you to go away. Horrible service
