Nestled in the picturesque Blowing Rock, McCoy Minerals is a gem mining and jewelry venture founded by Randy Doc McCoy, a former Army emergency field surgeon turned geologist. With the stunning Appalachian Mountain Range as its backdrop, this location is often hailed as the gemstone capital of the United States. At McCoy Minerals, visitors can witness Randy skillfully cutting and setting gemstones in his workshop.
Love this place! They have some of the most beautiful and rare gems there are. They also have everything in-between! We chose the in-between for gem stones and they were gorgeous! My wife picked them out in Oct. '23 and just had them set in a 10k gold ring and it turned out amazing! They have incredible minerals and fossils also! They will be getting more business from us soon! Namely October '24. Bonus points for them being so awesome!

The most down to earth (pun intended) mineral specimen and gem shop I've ever been to. The passion they have for their work and collections is infectious. In addition to a huge selection of jewelry and loose gemstones, they also offer lapidary services for those that want a custom gem cut just for them. I have many pieces by them and have never been disappointed. At the very least stop by and check out the real T-Rex skull they have on display.
Lisa T — Google review
Amazing place! Saw their display at Doc's Rocks and just had to visit! Jewelry or crystals - you want it, they have it. I've never been to a shop where you choose your own gemstone and a setting, but my 8yo was able to choose her birthstone and get it set into a lovely silver necklace. Staff/owners were very friendly and personable, treating us like family. I wish we had $1000 to spend here!

McCoy Minerals in Blowing Rock, NC, is a treasure trove for anyone interested in minerals, gems, and unique gift items. One of the highlights of visiting is the opportunity to chat with Doc, whose expertise and friendliness have been a constant since I first encountered his stores in 2007. Over the years and across his three locations, Doc has consistently provided exceptional service and shared his deep knowledge of minerals and gems. The prices at McCoy Minerals are excellent, offering great value on a wide range of items. Whether you're looking for stunning mineral specimens, beautifully cut gemstones, or distinctive gift items, you’ll find something special here. The gemstone cutting services are top-notch, transforming raw stones into polished, beautiful pieces. McCoy Minerals is more than just a store; it’s a place where you can learn and appreciate the beauty of natural treasures. I highly recommend stopping by for the quality products and the enriching experience of speaking with Doc.

These guys are awesome. They spent a ton of time with me identifying a bunch of rough gem material I have had for years - all at no cost. Very knowledgeable and you can tell they love what they do. I highly recommend!
Tom W — Google review
After obtaining some rough montana sapphires, I noticed one of them had a UV reaction and thought it would make an amazing facet. Even with its size, McCoy Minerals was able to get an amazing 5mm cut out of it! The result was beyond expectation
Joseph D — Google review
Honest the best gem and fossil store I've ever been in. This shop has such a wide variety of gems, minerals, and fossils and all and extremely fairly priced. The fossils range from big to small, the crystals of all colors, shapes, and sizes. You could spend hours in this shop checking out everything they have. The owner was extremely welcoming and knowledgeable about the minerals in her store. She was so kind and friendly as we walked through the store. If you are looking for any kind of gems, minerals, or fossils you need to check this place out!
Kierstyn M — Google review
Found a ruby and garnet from Docs gem mine down the road. They suggested might be good to get facet cut and that they could be shipped home to me. McCoy Minerals made the process professional, friendly and easy. After they were cut I decided to get them set for necklaces. I explained what I was looking for and got multiple options. From mining to my mailbox in Fl took 2 weeks for affordable quality workmanship! Thank you so much! Absolutely beautiful 💜

Nestled along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Blowing Rock, Moses H. Cone Memorial Park is a preserved country estate that once belonged to Moses Cone, a prominent figure in the Gilded Age. The 3,500-acre estate features 25 miles of carriage trails that are popular among hikers and horseback riders. The centerpiece of the park is the grand mansion known as Moses Cone Manor, which now houses the Southern Highland Craft Guild.
My husband and I loved this place! The house is so beautiful to look at, inside there are some small shops with interesting items for sale. There are a lot of options for hiking with family and friends and all so beautiful. We went to the Cone graves as well as the lake. The views were absolutely amazing. The trails are well maintained and ready for anyone ambitious. We will come back soon!
Cinthya O — Google review
I would give 5 stars, but unfortunately with the government shutdown, there was no ranger to do the tour. The craft store was adorable but above my budget. The grounds looked beautiful and the horse drawn carriage ride fun. Maybe next time we can explore a bit more and do the tour. Staff was friendly. Parking is limited.
Mary C — Google review
Ok, so not only is it easily accessible, it's also gorgeous. Tons of walking/running and hiking trails coupled with beautiful mountain scenery. The manor itself is pretty, but it pales compared to the scenery. Pristine wilderness, cery pretty bass lake, quirky stairs to nowhere. It's definitely worth a stop if you're on the Parkway and is honestly a destination unto itself.
James M — Google review
Quickly stopped by on our blue ridge parkway road trip, was a nice view and to see the mansion too. Didn't want the trails nearby. Portaloos/portapotties were available on site if needed. Plenty of parking too.

Second visit here. . Little disappointed we couldnt tour the house, but maybe that is due to the government shut down.. the grounds were beautiful and it was a nice relaxing walk with our family of four..lots of beautiful spots for pictures as well..

What a beautiful view! Trails looks really nice although we didn't have time to check them out. Lots of horses about and a horse drawn carriage as well. Will return!

The Speckled Trout Restaurant and Bottle Shop offers a rustic, no-frills dining experience with a focus on Southern fare and Lowcountry seafood for both lunch and dinner. The restaurant combines Grandma's best recipes with modern chef sensibilities, featuring dishes like pickled watermelon salad, deviled eggs with house-smoked trout, chicken n dumplings, and hoecakes with molasses butter.
My husband and I visited Blowing Rock for a weekend getaway, we absolutely loved the Speckled Trout. The food was fantastic, our server was so kind and tentative even with how busy they were. We enjoyed it so much we went back a second time and sat at the bar for lunch! Highly recommend this restaurant you won’t be disappointed!
Rachel M — Google review
I ordered the trout and french fries. My wife had the trout and grits. All of the food was served only slightly warm. French fries would have been great, if they were hot. Overall, the food was good, just not hot as it should be from the kitchen. Bar drinks were OK. I thought they were small, expensive and nothing to write home about. Total bill with gratuity was $82 for two for lunch.
John B — Google review
We came for lunch on a Saturday. I would highly recommend a reservation if you’re going during peak season. They opened at 11 and immediately had a line out the door. We did make a reservation and were sat immediately. Our server was nice and food all came out relatively quick. The smoked trout dip was phenomenal. It’s super dense but didn’t feel heavy after eating it. The wagyu burger was delicious! I would’ve liked to have a little more of the goat cheese and aioli because those flavors were subtle. The burger itself was cooked well. The trout po boy was good but not as good as the burger. The bread to trout ratio was a bit off and I felt like it needed more inside. Loved the touch of celery in the slaw! But again wished for more sauce on this as you couldn’t really taste the remoulade that much. The fries were SO GOOD. None left on our plates. All in all a good lunch and would go back!
Ansley H — Google review
Guess what we ate at the speckled trout? It was really good. They have 4-5 preparations of the trout that you can choose from. We had several at our table and all were good. The collard greens were very good also. They have a nice selection of beer.
Douglas D — Google review
We ate here twice this past weekend. I had the cracker crusted trout both times; once with mac ‘n cheese and the second time with Hoppin’ John. The food was incredibly delicious! If I was local, I would eat here a minimum of once a week! Fun atmosphere and friendly staff.
Philena S — Google review
it’s been a long time since i had a meal wow me as much as this one did. my family and i ordered a variety of entrees, and every single one was delicious. the blackened trout was buttery with the perfect amount of spice, and the strip steak is to die for. the sides were also delicious, especially the smoked gouda grits and green beans. the flourless chocolate torte was the cherry on top. our server, kellan, was very friendly and attentive. if you’re visiting blowing rock, this place is an absolute MUST. i highly recommend making a reservation and being patient with parking.
Jacob K — Google review
Great service and fantastic food! The grits were from my hometown in SC and were amazing! Everything we had was delicious! I had the blackened trout, gouda grits and collards. I promise my intention was to take a pic before I ate, but seeing it made me completely forget!!😂

We sat at the bar and ordered dinner. What a great meal. The bar staff is amazing. Plenty of beers to pick from. Wine list is fantastic. Had the grilled pork shop porter house and she had the almond crusted trout

This is a relatively small museum, but oh so delightful. This museum supports the many talented local artists, which I think is fantastic. The people who work here are friendly, kind, pleasant, and very helpful. This is a must-see museum on Main Street in the town of Blowing Rock. While you are here check out the colorful and ultra beautiful gardens everywhere.

Thank you to Bonnie for spending time with me and my family yesterday afternoon helping us fall in love with the incredible art of Elliott Daingerfield. Her passion for art and history was inspiring and we left completely taken by this visionary. The museum is beautiful and free for everyone. Gift yourself the chance to see the wonderful works they have available
Ly S — Google review
The museum was beautiful and informative. The staff, to include an amazingly nice young lady at the desk(didnt get her name) and Sam Reep, were extremely friendly and helpful. The young lady gave us directions to find the Junaluska mural that we were interested in, and Sam emailed me some amazing additional information. We mentioned eating and not only did Sam make some great recommendations, he made reservations to a place that the locals loved! We were so very excited to eat there, unfortunately, my friend became a little ill and we had to cancel the early afternoon reservations and they were booked for the rest of the evening! All of this gives us reason to return to the quaint town and see the new exhibits coming to the museum and experience the wonder all over again!

What a nice museum. Very informative video on the history of Blowing Rock, and how it came to be. Then a nice flow through the multiple galleries within the museum. My favorite exhibit was the watercolors. A wonderful collection of art and history all under one roof. The gentleman working the welcome desk was very informative and nice.

Say Cheese - A Gourmet Sandwich Cafe is a charming eatery located in the Southmarke Shopping Center, just past Mountain Time on Main. The cafe offers an array of delectable sandwiches featuring various proteins, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, and preserves. Grilled to perfection, their sandwiches are a delightful treat for the taste buds.
We had Sweet & Savory and American Grilled Cheese. Both with extra ham added. Both was perfect taste, especially their Sourd Dough bread. Owner and crew were so nice and helpful. Definately a stop by. Highly Recommended !! ( Each sandwich comes 2 piece but we were to hungry to wait to take photos how it comes)

Wow! This place beats the predictions! It's located in a cute quarter next to some boutique stores, and the grill cheese sandwiches and the tomato bisque were awesome. You need to try them if you're not up for a full heavy meal.
Petrisor B — Google review
This place definitely know how to make grilled cheese sandwiches. We had the Brie Apple grilled cheese. It was delicious and a good sized sandwich ( I definitely couldn’t taken 1/2 of it home ) they are in the back of that shopping area with all the white buildings towards the end of the main drag. I loved their patio tables with bright yellow umbrellas- you sit by all the beautiful flowers. Not fancy dining but very delicious & stress free.

Absolutely incredible! We tried the “Spicy Egg & Bacon I Am” and the “Brie Baby”, both were so good and awesome flavor combinations!!! Very friendly and great service, love the location as well. Would 100% recommend to everyone!
Kara F — Google review
I can see why this place was rated a 5 stars. The sweet and savory grilled cheese was delightful with the tomato soup. So simple yet so good and the staff was so friendly. It has been a minute since I’ve been at a place where the food is great, the service is great and the atmosphere is just the perfect perfect setup for a sunny fall day.
Piper R — Google review
We were walking around downtown Blowing Rock after some Spring hiking and stumbled upon Say Cheese. We were there during opening hours, but found no one to be around. We were disappointed and left to go eat somewhere else. Once we got back home to Charlotte, we realized they were seasonal and missed them by a week or two from their opening for the season. We knew we wanted to come back as their menu sounded so good, plus, I'm a huge grilled cheese fan! Well, we have come back after some hiking, not once, but twice! We were there in September enjoying our meal when we overheard someone asking when they would close for the season. They said at the end of October. So here we are, back again in October before they close one last time! Here is what we got most recently: *Spice is Nice - I'm a huge pimento cheese fan, but this has been my least favorite so far. It's good, but it doesn't wow me like the others do. *Pizza Pizzas - This is SO good! It is probably the cheesiest of the three that I love. I love how they slice this one into four breadstick like pieces to dip in a flavorful tomato sauce. That cheesy crusted bread with the gooey cheesy interior, is a cheese fan's dream! *Brie Baby - Everything about this one, from the brie, provolone, turkey, apples, and fig preserves works so well. This is probably the least gooey cheesiest of the three that I love, but this is one heck of a flavorful sandwich! *Sweet & Savory - It should be no surprise as a peach lover, that this is my favorite. I love the sweet and the spice all mixed in with gooey cheese and a little bit of bacon. Perfection! Please note, this is a small shop, and it gets busy in a mountain tourist town. They are making them fresh, and it takes some time. Be patient, it is well worth the wait! If I can give only one critique - place a sign outside the door with hours of when open for the season and when closed for the season. Service is bad in the area, and we had no clue originally when we were walking around. Otherwise, HIGHLY recommend. We will be back in 2026! :)

I got the ham and cheese (with smoked Gouda and Pepper Jack) and a cheerwine! It was so good and that cheese pull was great!! If you’re in blowing rock, stop here! You won’t regret it!

The Blowing Rock is a famous cliff in North Carolina known for its strong wind gusts that can blow light objects back to the thrower. The area also features the Hickory Ridge History Museum, located on the grounds of Horn in the West, which showcases some of the oldest building structures in the region and offers insight into frontier life during the mid-to-late 1700s.
It costs a few bucks, but definitely worth it just for the view! The shop workers are nice, there's beautiful little koi and turtle ponds to sit by, lots of beautiful flowers that attract butterflies, trails to walk if you want, an awesome view from the observatory, and a shop that has ice cream. It was worth the money. I spent a couple of hours there. As a bonus, I saw a very cute cat.
Brittney P — Google review
This place is beautiful. Yes you have to pay an entrance fee but it’s so worth it. The observation deck, the seating areas, little museum and the small hike down the steps. Although they are steep, not so bad going down but coming up a bit challenging.
Carlos U — Google review
Very pretty, and very easy to get to. The Blowing Rock is 10 feet away from the lobby. They have a lot of very pretty plants, all with nameplacks. They had cute turtles and moist. It's an easy going attraction the whole family can go to
Kelsie ( — Google review
Costs a few bucks to get in but with a few trails and overlooks, not to mention a little garden area featuring some turtles, it was a great way to spend a few hours. It wasn't very windy while we were there so didn't feel like risking being a litterbug by tossing my hat off to see it blown back. Great little spot for family pictures and to stretch your legs.
Robert M — Google review
This place is amazing! Named after a local legend that has to do with lost lovers and peculiar, unusual wind currents, there are several different wonderful views of the Caldwell County valleys below, both at the titular rock formation, and elsewhere along the property! Lots of different observation platforms and small gardens dot the property with short walking trails in between and there is also a museum dedicated to geology and minerals, a gift shop, and a small shack where you can get a whole meal! There's even a US Coast And Geodetic Survey marker somewhere in the area! Sadly, we never got around to the museum, but I would definitely want to come back here either way!

Beautiful day. DJ playing people walking their dogs, the christmas store was okay. The store in Savannah, Ga. Is way better. To much walking to get to so decided to leave, needed a restroom also. But it was nice to visit for a one time deal.

This is one of my sons favorite places to visit when we drive up the mountains, his trip is not complete if we don’t stop here to see the views, pet the cats and get some ice cream/popcorn. Everyone that works there has been completely nice and has been helpful with advice on things to do in the surrounding area. I love bringing family here when they come visit from out of state!

Beautiful property & store! It’s like an old house converted that has many rooms & pretty merchandise. I took pics to show what they offer. They were getting near closing time when I wandered in to look around as we were on a wait list at a nearby restaurant last Sunday. No one said hello to me but they were probably wrapping up to close. I’ll try to visit again the next time we’re in Blowing Rock. I highly recommend it for the charm! Josephine Local Guide

Just purchased the cutest little glass mosaic bird feeder here. Clerk stated that they didn’t have a box for it, but it was wrapped in plastic bubble wrap. After handing it to me, the package slipped out of my hand. I hadn’t even left the counter. After the clerk unwrapped it I realized that it was only wrapped in Saran wrap. It wasn’t even wrapped in tissue or paper. The clerk told me that it was unfortunate for me and refused to give me another one. I asked if they could at least give me a discount on another one since I purchased it for a gift. I had her call manager to see if we could reach a resolution. The manager said since it had left the employees hand it wasn’t their fault. This used to be my go to gift shop. Never again. I can’t help but think if it had been wrapped properly, this wouldn’t have happened. The clerks at Home Goods take more care with my purchases. Very disappointed in the lack of customer service. Since this was made in China I think the least they could have done was give me a discount. *** Just went to Home Goods to purchase another gift for my friend. Thought I would post this to show you how glassware should be wrapped for customers.

We have a family vacation home in Sugar Mountain and every time we all get together the women our family shop in this beautiful store. It has special unique items that you will not find in regular stores. Decorating is my passion and I absolutely adore the store and will shop there forever. It is a huge treat to get together to such a unique and beautiful store. Also wanted to mention that I bought a fountain there in the spring when I got home, it did not work properly. I called them immediately and we did a return and they sent me out a new one and it works great. This is a must go, check it out ladies and gents super cool place.

Super cute shop with all kinds of little things you had no idea you needed. I went in to browse and left with a coffee cup but could’ve left with so much more. The two gentleman working were very friendly, which isn’t always the case in touristy places. Definitely check them out when you are exploring Blowing Rock.

We’ve been buying items here for years - they were in a smaller location but now this location is bigger & multi-level. Still a lot of fun items. It’s definitely one of my top 3 places to visit when we are in BR.

First time in Neaco. I wanted to say hello to the owners but they were with customers. I visited during WinterFest so the store was pretty packed. I did my best to show you what kinds of products they sell. There is a lot to choose from. Some great gift ideas here. Check out my pics and videos. Enjoy!

Stopped by here this past Friday with my husband. This was the best store we stopped at in blowing rock! If you go nowhere else to shop, make sure to check them out. They had some unique gifts that were amazing— a lot of dolly parton, golden girls and good vibes. Store owners were so friendly and helpful! 10/10

High Country Candles is a must-visit shop in the heart of Blowing Rock, known for its unique hand-sculptured wax creations and a wide range of beautifully scented candles. The shop has been recognized by Southern Living magazine as one not to miss when visiting Blowing Rock. Visitors can expect to find diverse and local artist boutiques in the downtown area, including High Country Candles, where they can witness the creation process firsthand.
The owner and the employees I’ve been served by are always respectful and have a smile. I’ve purchased here three times and I’ll be back again when my three middle size candles run out. The three I got this time are amazing, the names are earth/&woods, honeysuckle, and unwind.

When purchasing 2 refills, among other new candles, last year we were told they would call when the candles were ready and that they would always be here when we were ready to get them. Well they lied. Went to pick up the candles today, even though we never received a phone call, and the women (I assume an owner) was beyond difficult and refused to give us what we paid for. Laughed in our faces. Told us it was our fault they didn’t have our items. She even said, “We haven’t even called the people from this year at all.” What ever happened to customer first? I even provided proof of the purchase. We will never shop there again. Thanks for ruining my husbands favorite scented candle that used to bring our home so much joy.

One of my favorite spots in NC. Just the store alone is super cute with all the candles and little decorations, but they also offer candle making/carving! It’s such a cool experience, everything smells so good, and the staff is wonderful. You get to keep the candles you make too! It’s something that you don’t get to do everyday. Plus you get to learn a disappearing art while supporting a beautiful small business.

High Country Candles is a great shop in the heart of Blowing Rock. They make everything themselves so be prepared to be blown away with local talent. Their selection and quality is outstanding. The candles, display holders, pottery, etc. are fabulous and their staff is wonderful. You may even see them in action if you are lucky.

VERY DISAPPOINTED !!!!! Two years ago my family visited High Country Candles and we all loved the shop. My daughter purchased a candle specifically that could be exchanged for a discount on a new candle if returned. We were not able to return last year due to the hurricane. Which brings us to this year... for two years she saved the candle. She was looking forward to returning to your shop and sharing with you that she had remembered and hadn't shopped for other candles but came specifically to your shop only to be told that you had discontinued the exchange policy on that style candle. Not that we don't understand, we do. But at the very least, a thank you for returning to your shop would have been appreciated.

Love love love this place!!! The staff is always so friendly and it's really cool to watch them carve candles. Their fragrances are excellent, they have multiple for every season! They also have a refill program if you bring back your empty clean jars :) we've been coming here for years and just love it!

Saw this little guy at the store and had to take him home. Stopped by with my wife while visiting Blowing Rock and was graciously greeted by a lady? Maybe owner? Lots of neat little things to look at. Ended up getting a family of snowman candle as well but this ghost candle was the highlight of my trip.

High Country Candles has been our families must visit place for the past 7 years when we visit the high country. The staff are always super friendly and always welcome you like you are family! The candles are amazing and high quality, and their new pottery is absolutely beautiful! We visited the store this week, and after a recommendation from one of the staff members we purchased the Maple Butter jar candle, and can not wait to fill our home with it's amazing smell! Larry and Cyndi and the staff of High Country Candles are the best! When in the Blowing Rock area, stop by this gem of a place.....you will not be disappointed!

Christmas in Blowing Rock is a delightful celebration that truly embodies the holiday spirit. The town comes alive with festive events, including the enchanting Christmas in the Park and the Lighting of the Town, creating a magical atmosphere for families and visitors alike. Beyond Christmas, Blowing Rock hosts various seasonal festivities throughout the year, such as Winterfest in January and unique celebrations like Christmas in July. Shoppers will find an array of charming gifts at local boutiques, featuring personalized ornaments that capture memories from your visit.
I absolutely LOVE this store! They had a great variety of small gifts for Christmas or birthdays, beautiful bracelets and rings at the front of the store, leather purses and wallets, & cute flags! Must stop in while walking through town, you won’t be disappointed 😍

We had a blast in this store. The lady was very helpful, kind, and she even gave us assistance when figuring out our decor. She even offered us TWO Christmas bags because we spend over $100, but we gratefully accepted just one. We loved the vast selection of Christmas gifts.
Heather W — Google review
Customer Service Needs Much Improvement. No Staff Welcome to Store Upon Entering. Staff Did Not Please Customer With Purchases, Nor Actually Seemed To Appreciate Business. Store offered free Christmas Snowman Bag with a $50 Purchase. Our purchase was 48.96 plus tax which was over the $50 amount. Store Associate would not give a free bag since purchase was $48.96 before tax and “dismissively” told us that we did not qualify for a free bag to be given as she did not care to please her customers. Wanted to charge us $5.00 for the Snowman Bag. Staff Was Also Not Very Customer Friendly. Do Not Recommend Shopping or Buying from this Business Establishment. 😡
Eric R — Google review
What an incredible shop. The lady who was running the store was so sweet and helpful. She even helped my brother in law pick out a flag. Who ever Eric is above…I didn’t know everyone gets a trophy…. You spend $50, you “earn” a free bag. Buy more that is the incentive not your “prize”. Such a great store, great collection, gifts for everyone! Make sure you stop in.
Melody S — Google review
Love the shop, bought a some cute things, BUT we parked in the back of the store where it said parking for the Christmas in Blowing Rock store and some lady(from the florist store) yelled at us and wouldn’t leave us alone because we parked there, she was harassing us, saying it was employee parking but the sign literally says parking for the store(if it’s for employees the sign needs to be changed), I told her I could show her my receipt from the store. Just like the other stores have signs for parking, like “parking for Footsloggers only”. That’s what we assumed the parking was for shoppers of the store. Don’t know if I’ll be back just because of the way that woman treated us. Disgusting….. Especially having children with us.
Kristin T — Google review
When making a purchase, be absolutely certain it is what you want. They will not take returns, even on credit card purchases. They only do an exchange, and not even that, for marked down items. Did not see that posted in store, nor warned. It is printed on receipt that exchanges may be made within 14 days, but does not state no refunds. If you’re at the point of having a receipt, it is then too late.
Dean L — Google review
My husband and I went into this shop for the first time today. We immediately found a hand blown Christmas tree figurine that looked perfect for my mother in law. The older women was a bit rude behind the counter when I told her that I wanted to purchase it. She said they already came packaged. (I had carried the display figurine over to purchase) There were several tree figurines on display and when I tried to tell her I wanted the one with purple bulbs she was quite rude. Saying that they all have multicolor bulbs. I was aware of this but simple was pointing out that the figurine that included the purple bulbs was the one I wanted. I would have left without purchasing the item if it handn't been such a perfect gift for my mother in law. If I had known there was another Christmas shop in town I would have gone there instead. I Do not recommend.

The Mountain Thread Company is a store specializing in fabric, quilts, baskets and supplies. They offer classes and workshops as well as special events.
Our family LOVES Mountain Thread Company! We went for the first time when it opened 8 years ago and visiting Katherine and seeing her beautiful shop has become our favorite part of our annual Christmas tree trip. Katherine is inspiring and encouraging and just incredibly kind and generous. She held my hand through the process of making my first quilt tops and it was one of the greatest and proudest experiences of my life to pick them up from being quilted and bound by her. She always remembers us which means the world to my children, especially when she does awesome things like show them how the long arm works and how she forms her baskets and even how she operates the cash register. I truly cannot say enough about how much we delight in visiting and how thankful I am that she told me that I could make a quilt all those years ago and sent me off with handwritten instructions and an invitation to call her for help anytime I needed it. Just the very best and most delightful experience!

Loved my visit! Had a lovely chat with owner, Katherine. She is so full of creative tips and loves working with rope. It shines through as you talk to her. Bought the book! Highly recommend the book!!! I will be back soon! Scared I may become a stalker🤣

This is a quaint little quilting store up in Blowing Rock. They don't have a huge selection of fabrics but what they do carry are very nice - lots of Art Gallery! They specialize in making these wonderful cotton rope bowls and they also sell the kits to make them with. I just did my first one and it was a blast. The photo is of the basket I made from the Mountain Thread kit, not something they made - their baskets are much more impressive and statuesque - mine - meh, a little lumpy!

It was the sweetest little “accident” to happen upon this quilt/fabric/basket shop during our weekend getaway in Blowing Rock. The shop itself inspires so much creativity and it was full of beauty and color and creation and charm. I could’ve spent all day there! I am new to quilting and Katherine taught me so much about fabric and selecting prints just in the relatively short time I was there. ❤️ Make sure you stop by if you are in town! I can’t wait to visit again!

I had the most wonderful experience at Monkees two weekends ago. I was looking for birthday gifts for my sisters and the sales staff was so friendly and helpful. I bought tow pocketbooks made by a woman who lives in Blowing Rock. They are beautiful!! I was so excited about my purchase that I called back today and ordered another one. The girl that answered the phone, again, was so friendly, so helpful and so accommodating because I needed the pocketbook shipped. She could not have been nicer!! And they gift wrap beautifully!!:):) I highly recommend visiting Monkees while in Blowing Rock. It will not disappoint!!!

Out of any Monkee’s location, the Blowing Rock store is by far the most welcoming. The staff here show such incredible customer service and are so beyond helpful in finding you outfits and styles that will exude your most confident self. I have bought jeans, shoes and earrings from this store over the years and I always leave feeling uplifted and confident because of the staff here. It is so worth a stop at this boutique if you are near the Blowing Rock or Boone area.

Excellent service! I was fortunate enough to walk into the store when you were having your sale. Bonus! The employees were attentive and helped me style for an upcoming event. They knew their merchandise, were professional and I felt completely comfortable in the store. I had fun shopping for the outfit I purchased at 50% off. Thank you Monkees!

Monkees BR is my favorite place to shop for unique, high quality pieces. Their sales team and owners are truly the NICEST and most helpful people to work with. I love to pop in the store when I'm up in the mountains, but since I am not local I love to shop their site and Instagram. They ship so quickly and I always love everything I get from there! 100% recommend for treating yourself, gifts for friends and family, or finding pieces for any occasion.

Exceptional customer service and great selection for all ages and budgets! I live 1000+ miles from Blowing Rock but when I'm in the area I always make a point to stop by this stylish, fun boutique. I love their selection of clothes, shoes, and accessories and I find it refreshing that they offer options for every budget and age. Today I reached out to Monkee's for help accessorizing an outfit for a graduation I plan to attend next week. They helped me select a perfect necklace and purse to match my dress. And the most amazing part? All of this happened over the phone and with pictures they sent me (and they sent lots of pictures because I'm picky, lol). They even plan to deliver the items to the hotel where I will be staying! I could not be more pleased with my Monkee's experience!

What a little gem nestled in Blowing Rock. The owners, Jess and Kenneth are wonderful and always there to help the customers. Nestled in the charming town of Blowing Rock, NC, Rustic is a delightful treasure trove that beautifully marries style and nature. This unique shop showcases stunning reclaimed wood furniture that seamlessly complements both urban lofts and cozy cabins alike. Beyond furniture, Rustic offers an array of handcrafted gifts and accessories made from natural materials, each reflecting the spirit of the high country. During my visit after a day spent hiking at Grandfather Mountain, I stumbled upon the perfect wedding gift for my nephew and niece.
OMG, where to start? What a quaint shop located in the heart of Blowing Rock, so many items to look at, the creative and unusual items were fantastic. Such a fun shop to stumble upon. The best part of this shop is the customer service. I had purchased a leather bracelet with copper colored metal accent with a magnetic clasp. Unfortunately a day and a half after wearing an enjoying it, a small portion of the leather band broke off. I called Rustic and they immediately jumped into action to remedy the issues, they offered me a refund or they could send me a similar bracelet in blue, which I said the blue one with the silver metal would be fine. The owner reached out to artesian and found out that he had another identical to the one I purchased. Well they emailed me and offered the replacement and said they would send it out to me the next day. You do not find customer service that cares as much as these ladies do. Please go and support there adorable shop! You will not be disappointed!
D B — Google review
Staff/Owner was on the phone (speaker no less) discussing politics and trash talking conservatives. Also discussing her uterus and such in addition to other things I will not mention in this review. When my wife got up to counter she told the other called “got to go I have to take care of something” referring to helping my wife. Super rude and I am shocked this place is still in business. Would give it no stars if possible.
Michael G — Google review
We planned our trip today to stop at this store. My son loved the music boxes and he wanted one when we came back in the area. On top of that we were going to buy a leather journal. The lady working was AWFUL. Complete attitude. The music boxes are not in order so we were looking at them trying to find the one he wanted and she got pissy because we were touching them. How can we tell what they are when they are all out of order without picking them up and reading them? Seriously - in a tourist town you need to know things are going to be looked at. We had also asked for her help with something and her attitude about that was crappy as well. I told her how we felt and we left not buying anything. So disappointing as well would have bought several items but now I won’t go back.

Cute shop with very interesting and unique merchandise. However, the lady who was working this morning was not very friendly and was constantly in our way. She treated us like we were potential shoplifters. We didn’t feel welcome. I wouldn’t go back if she was working there. We visited the store on 6/26/24 around 11:00 or so, maybe 11:30?

I must commend them on their outstanding customer service and due diligence to keep their customers and staff safe during these unprecedented times. A lot of thought went into the processes put in place to shop with confidence while in this quaint unique store. They require everyone to wear mask (THANK YOU!) have an easy to follow path to ensure social distancing, wipes at the register and touch less check out. unique gifts and the best Toffee I've ever had, ate it all during our walk. Thank you for a relaxing, comfortable and safe shopping experience-we'll be back soon!

Found the perfect wedding gift for my nephew and neice here after an incredible day hiking at Grandfather mountain. The owner overheard me being worried about my phone not charging and trying to find my lost purse which I had left in another store. She offered to charge my phone and help me contact the other store to retrieve my lost purse which I did find- which was untouched. We had a heart warming conversation during all of this, while my present was gift wrapped. My faith in warm , friendly and kind humans was restored. Love

Hanna's Oriental Rugs & Gifts is a cherished establishment in Blowing Rock, boasting a rich history since 1919 as the town's oldest oriental rug shop. Beyond rugs, visitors can explore fine European imports alongside unique antiques like occasional furniture and exquisite porcelain pieces. The charming atmosphere is complemented by friendly staff who are well-versed in the origins of their products.
This is one of the most unique stores I have ever encountered. It has been in business for more than 100 years. Hanna’s proprietor Thamena is a gem! I found an item on this store's website that I wanted to buy. I added the item to my cart and proceeded to checkout. After putting in all of my information for checkout, their e-commerce system reads, "This store can't accept payments right now." I tried emailing the company on June 12th with no response as of June 23rd. I have tried calling the company during business hours, with no answer (and their voicemail is not set up). I used the email and phone number listed on their website. I'm guessing my question to see if I could purchase the item over the phone, or by using another platform, has been answered. I'm sure it's a great store, but it's not set up for any sales outside of local, and I have not been able to get in touch with anyone at the store.

We have now purchased several rugs from Hanna’s Oriental Rugs & Gifts. Extremely pleased with our purchases and the top notch customer service we received from everyone in the store . Recently purchased a new house and I am sure we will back to Hanna’s for more rugs!😁

I don't think I have ever done this, but today is the day. The young woman working in this store was one of the most rude people I have ever met. My daughter and her boyfriend went in to look at 75% off rugs and the woman said to them, "I think you are in the wrong store". Really? Bc they might hurt something calmly walking through rugs piled everywhere? So I decided to ask the young lady about it. I walked in the store, alone, and she approached me. I said two teenagers with me were just in here and told they were in the wrong store. She apparently didn't want to discuss it bc she said the same thing to me. So I politely said, "your customer service is terrible and I plan to let people know". So now you know.

Gaines Kiker Silversmith is a treasure trove for those who appreciate the art of fine jewelry. Specializing in custom pieces crafted from silver, gold, platinum, and an array of precious stones, Gaines transforms raw materials into stunningly elegant designs that are both contemporary and timeless. Visitors can witness this creative process firsthand at his open studio/gallery located downtown, where he works diligently to create wearable masterpieces.
I’ve shopped at Gaines Kiker Silversmith for close to 10 years now. I have a slight earring addiction, and will have to admit that I have about 15 pairs of Gaines’ beautiful artistry. His imagination knows no boundaries and it shows in both his jewelry and his custom furniture. I have two of his end tables that will be passed down as family heirlooms. I also have 3 amazing bracelets that are one of a kind. To say I’m obsessed with his work is an understatement. If you haven’t shopped there, I suggest you do so ASAP! If you don’t see what you’re looking for, talk to Susan or Gaines and they can bring your imagination into fruition.

We came to Gaines with a ring that held a lot of sentimental value, but needed a fresh start — and what he created completely blew us away. Gaines took the time to listen to the story behind the piece and truly understood how important it was to preserve its meaning while giving it new life. The redesign process was thoughtful, collaborative, and full of care. He walked us through every step, offered beautiful ideas, and treated the project with the kind of attention and passion you'd expect from someone remaking a lifelong treasure. The final result is absolutely stunning — elegant, modern, and still deeply connected to the original. Wearing this ring now brings my wife so much joy, and I’m beyond grateful for Gaines' talent and heart. I can’t recommend him enough!

This wonderful couple lives out their passion of jewelry and furniture making, and it shows in the quality of their work. My husband bought a special gem stone, and we walked into to Gaines' store and within minutes we had a sketch of a completely custom-made, hand built ring. This is a one of a kind place for someone wanting a one of a kind piece that can be adored for generations. They are very warm and welcoming as soon as you walk in, and they take something like a intimidating skill and allow you trust them wholeheartedly. After a couple months, we picked up our ring today and it is so much better than expected. I was floored. Who knew we are so fortunate in this area to have such a down to earth, skilled artisan who creates works of art so naturally. Don't go anywhere else for jewelry! Highly, highly recommend you at least go meet them. We already have future projects lined up. Thank you Gaines for making our special ring a reality. And for sharing your hot peppers!

Blowing Rock Market is a versatile spot offering a variety of goods and services. It's known for its delicious sandwiches, homemade bread, and wine selection. The market also serves as a deli with refrigerated cake slices available. In addition to food items, visitors can find locally made products such as lavender soap and vegan peanut butter brownie bites at the nearby farmers market.
The lady’s working were amazing and helpful. I wish I had a place like this where I live in Florida because I would be here weekly. They have stuff I never knew I needed 😂great selection of IPAs, tons of different jars of pickled canned goods, rare chips and homemade salsas. Definitely worth a stop if you’re anywhere in the area

Every time I go hiking nearby, I enjoy stopping by for a snack and get something to go. When it is cool outside, it is nice to sit outside on the patio and enjoy your food For a small store, they do have a lot of varieties. they have tons of alcohol choices, bake meals, snacks and their sandwiches. Sandwiches are not bad, pretty basic, but enough to fill your hunger.
FriedChicken — Google review
We enjoyed stopping here for lunch. The sandwiches were great and the vibe was too. We got our sandwiches to go and had a picnic nearby but I would have enjoyed sitting on the patio just as much. It was large and spacious. There was live music and best of all- the patio is pet friendly. Take note- Inside the store in the back left corner are coolers which have take and bake meals for families- and they looked great! I wish I had seen better advertising for them as I definitely would have tried those. (The coolers are marked Ladyfingers)

What happened to this place? It used to be a great little market and had great sandwiches. We would always look forward to coming here during our yearly visit to Blowing Rock. The owner clearly doesn't care. The employees are awful. The selections are just really bad now. So disappointing.
Larry S — Google review
We drove up to see our son at Appalachian State University so we did some exploring. This was our first time visiting downtown Blowing Rock. There was a Halloween event, kids all dressed in costumes. It was adorable! We walked in to the market to get some water & I was impressed with the store. I love the fact that you can get yourself something to eat and drink & enjoy the outside seating in the middle of everything this town has to offer. This is the most ideal location & I took pics to show what they offer in their market. Enjoy!

We’ve enjoyed lunch at The Blowing Rock Market several times over the years, but unfortunately, today was a disappointment. We waited nearly 50 minutes for seven deli sandwiches, and three of the seven were incorrect. Based on this experience, I wouldn’t recommend this spot to others. Very slow service and incorrect orders.
Lauren U — Google review
Cool little market and deli right on Main Street in Blowing Rock. They have a deli for sandwiches and generally a couple soups. They stock a ton of craft beer and have 5-6 beers on tap. They also carry a decent selection of wine. There some general groceries - milk, eggs, etc along with various locally made breads and sweets. They also have a Lady Fingers freezer with ‘take and bake’ items which is great. They have gone back and forth on gas and on this last visit they had one pump but no gas on either side. They have limited seating inside and out. BLK spot!👍🏻👍🏻
Ian W — Google review
I visited here and spent a lot of time looking through their jams and honey and was blown away by the food. The bacon eggs and cheese was cheaper than McDonald’s and was REAL! Freshly made biscuits that were the best I’ve ever had. The market is absolutely great.

You cannot miss the store. If you visit blowing rock. There is something for everyone. There is food items. There’s linens, books, candles, soaps, all of the finest quality. Wonderful little French shop in Blowing Rock. As soon as you walk in the door you are greeted by a wonderful French playlist and a super friendly owner! With both antiquities and goods from France, you will also find literature and art. We were able to snag some great additions to a charcuterie board with some lavender honey and Fig preserves. If you get the chance, have a talk with the owner leave with a warm heart as well!

Talk about an authentic French shop! My daughter became ecstatic when she saw the French glad hanging outside the shop. We purchased the most amazing cook book that both parent and child can complete together and the most amazing French flash cards for my daughter. The owner was very kind and helpful! We cannot wait to visit again!

A place to buy very nice gifts from France. Danielle is a gem!
Jon S — Google review
I have been to this lovely little shop several times over the years, and I am always impressed. This is like having a bit of France in my own backyard. During my lifetime, I have made 17 trips to la belle France, and this shop brings back many good memories, especially of the South of France. Each time I enter the shop, there is a fragrance that reminds me of the many shops I visited in France. Danielle, the proprietress, has a fantastic selection of santons(little saints), fabrics, soaps, sachets, ceramic and porcelain items, etc. Danielle is also very friendly and helpful, and I enjoy trying my French with her. If one is interested in purchasing unusual items not normally found in his/her typical American shop, he/she should definitely visit this shop. One will not be disappointed.

This is a cool little local shop w/ unique art and random things. Prices are very reasonable too especially given the location. I bought a big piece of wooden art here that was too heavy for me to carry by myself. The lady working there called her team over from the other location to come help load it. 2 guys showed up in 5 min and helped load it in my truck, strapped it down for me, and even padded it down with cardboard to make sure it was safe for travel. Great service that they didn't have to do! Great buying experience. Will come back for sure.

Aaron G — Google review
It's a cute shop with a great tea selection, but it's a horrible shopping experience. I was there for less than 10 minutes and had 4 staff members come explain things to me which was incredibly off-putting when I just wanted to browse and smell some tea in peace. I don't hold it against the staff personally, they were friendly and I'm assuming did it because they're required to, but it made me leave far sooner than I really wanted to.
Elizabeth L — Google review
What a great place! We were greeted upon arrival, and the employee showed us their most popular spice blends (which my partner bought some of the Tuscany blend). There were so many wonderful aromas. I’m an avid tea drinker, and the selection was bountiful; I ended up getting a trio of different wellness blends, as well as a fancy infuser bottle that I cannot wait to try out. I thought it was neat that they also had recipe cards along with some of the spices. Everyone was friendly. I will definitely come back when in the area next. Keep up the great work, ladies!

It's a nice store, but not as great as I had hoped. Some items were very unique, while others were a little more run of the mill. I felt like I was being watched and followed from the moment I walked into the store, which I didn't appreciate at all. Maybe they have a lot of shoplifters come through? This was a unique little toy store that had so many games, toys and such to choose from. There were a few items that I found on Amazon for a couple of dollars cheaper but not enough to keep me from purchasing from this store. It was better than shopping at Amazon because you could actually see what you were getting. The sales person was awesome! I found an educational game for my grandson but wasn't going to buy it because I wasn't able to see if it was going to be the right type of game for his age group due to the fact that this particular game still had the wrapper on it. when I asked the sales person if she knew what it was like she said "Well let's just open it and see" and when I decided it was what I wanted I was going to take the one she unwrapped she said. "Take the unwrapped one. We'll just use this as a sample". I've never had anyone so helpful in a toy store. I will definitely go back and would suggest this store to anyone.

Bolick and Traditions Pottery invites you to immerse yourself in a rich heritage of craftsmanship that dates back to the early 1800s. Nestled on Main Street, this family-owned establishment showcases an impressive array of pottery, blending functionality with artistry. Michael and Janet Calhoun proudly share their family's legacy, tracing back five generations of skilled potters from the Seagrove area who originally created essential items like pickling crocks and canning jars.

I purchased a butter bell recently, and was excited to use it. While cleaning it with a sponge, the top broke off. No extraneous force was applied, which makes me think that the clay had not dried or been fired properly before glazing. I’m disappointed with the result of my purchase, but understand mistakes happen, especially with locally crafted pottery. I hope to hear from the owner about a remediation.

We bought a piece in which you cook bacon. We've seen these numerous times over the years but couldn't believe they really work. The pieces in Bolick's are some of the prettiest ones we've seen. The Manager assured us they work perfectly and she loves hers. She said most people buy their first one with skepticism and then everybody on the Christmas list gets one. Today was like Christmas morning as we layed the bacon strips over the top rim of the bacon cooker, put it in the microwave, and watched it cook for 6 minutes. All the grease is in the bottom of the cooker, no splattering, and 8 pieces of perfectly cooked bacon. Now.....about that Christmas list! Can't wait to visit again! Also...the Shea Butter we got smells divine and is very moisturizing but quickly penetrates so it doesn't leave a greasy feel.

I love everything that you make out of clay. The clay snowmen will be Christmas presents for my friends this year. My daughter bought some cute ear rings there yesterday.

Grounded Works is a leather goods store committed to providing high-quality products at an affordable price. Owning one of the original Pathfinder Wallets has made me more comfortable when carrying around large amounts of cash and gives plenty of space for essentials. I would highly recommend these products to anyone looking for quality, affordable items.
I loved the experience here. It is owned and run by an Appalachian State graduate and some of his employees are taking induatrial design there. I hated replacing my 46 year old wallet given to me by my sister, but it has been time for replacement. I wanted something that would fit in my pocket and was a bit unique. I received excellent help selecting the right wallet. The selection was immense; getting the description of how each of the creative wallets worked helped me make my decision (for classically minded people, those are available). My new wallet will even stick onto my refrigerator when i get home so i won't lose it. I will be very surprised if this wallet can't be passed on to my son and then a grandson if i get one.

Grounded Works is just amazing. I was born with an upper limb deficiency and my arms only go down to my elbows. I wanted something leather to cover my elbows to protect them. I worked with Hunter and he took measurements and got it done. The final product felt great, and it was a perfect fit after some minor tweaks. Hunter even made the clasp easy enough for me to put them on and off without a single struggle. When I went there at the end to get my cuffs, Hunter wasn’t there and one of his coworkers helped me finalize the fit. Everyone there is so kind and helpful. They love new projects, I highly recommend them!

I bought the pathfinder wallet, It's an absolute beauty and minimalist. I met Hunter at his store and he was nice to talk to and he was showing me all his other wallets but for some reason I gravitated towards the pathfinder wallet. I have been using it since I bought it. Thank you for your hospitality and service. The wallet is sturdy and it's made out of great quality leather. There about ten cards plus money and the wallet is comfortable to carry.
Brody C — Google review
We had the best experience at this store and with Hunter!! I will return. Highly recommend. He has high quality handmade goods that are unique and personable. Go spend some time with Hunter at Grounded works you will not be disappointed and it’s worth a stop in.
Angie B — Google review
Earlier this year, my wife and I heard about a new store location in Blowing Rock for Grounded Works. Really glad we did. The owner and “leathersmith” Hunter is a super nice guy. His interest in what we were looking for as well as explaining the details of his product was great. Being in my 60’s I have always had the same type of wallet. Well thought I would give the “Neo Wallet” a try. Combination money clip and wallet all in a very small profile. I was able to pick out the leather color as well as the stitching…both having a vast array of colors to choose. I have had the wallet for about 10 months, and it has broken in very nicely and I absolutely love it….would highly recommend!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Hunter and checking out his shop in Blowing Rock, NC! I bought the Neo wallet, a koozie, a lanyard for my keys, and a Bible marker. I loved seeing all of the intricate designs Hunter has created. Keep creating awesome things, Hunter! And glorifying the Lord while doing it! Excited to follow this business even though I don’t live locally!

I have been shopping for a small wallet to replace my Wilson leather wallet/clip for years. Recently, when in Blowing Rock, I came across Hunter's shop and BANG, found it. Custom color I wanted too! It was PERFECT. Holds my ID, cards and cash. We try to support local businesses as much as possible. Oh, received it (special order) within about 10 days of placing the order online. Hunter even gave me a Vet/First Responder 10% discount! I'll be hitting him up for future items!

MacHouse Designs Consignment is a hidden gem that offers a mix of new and gently used home decor items. The store is filled with an array of beautiful furniture, art pieces, and accessories to suit any style. Customers praise the unique and well-priced pieces available at MacHouse, often returning to find new treasures for their homes. The staff are described as friendly and helpful, offering design advice and creating a welcoming atmosphere for shoppers.
I HIGHLY recommend this business. Maria has an amazing eye and her shop is filled with treasures galore. Every time I go in, there is something “new” and beautiful. Maria ended up decorating my house, and the results are stunning. I trusted her vision so much that I gave her “free reign.” My jaw dropped at the big reveal. I cannot recommend this business and Maria highly enough. I have bought and sold pieces with her for a few years now and it is always an amazing experience!

Fun store. Glad we found it. Inventory changes frequently so if you see something you like buy it because it may not be there tomorrow. Staff was helpful but also let us check out the store without hounding us like some other places.
RobertsMom N — Google review
We dropped off very quality items (about $5000 new). They claimed to have sold them or donated. Received a $40 check. When we went out there, a lot of our items were still for sale. They threatened to call the police when we inquired. Never got the second check we were assured we'd get. I'd go 0 stars if that was an option. Entitled is the best adjective I can use. Cluttered, and owners were rude, incompetent, deceitful. Audit them and see what happens.

Nothing is as amazing and well priced as the unique pieces at MacHouse. We moved into our forever home in Blowing Rock one year ago and I cannot tell you how many pieces we have purchased at MacHouse. In fact my husband built me an additional room onto our home just to fill it with incredible pieces. The ladies are wonderful and go out of their way for me every time whether it’s helping me choose items, photographing items, giving me design advice or just simply being good friends.

A great novelty foods store. They have lots of unique candy options. Got chocolate covered gummy bears for my son. You can get ice cream which was good. They have sodas in glass bottles which are better in my opinion than canned drinks. Lots of locally made coated peanuts and chocolates. If you want hot sauce this is the place for you! Beautiful store with unique items, howeve, my experience was unpleasant. I had placed a bracelet in the wrong spot after looking at it and I was chased down the sidewalk because the lady could not find it right away, with the implication that I had stolen it. We wend back in to talk to the employee about the way the situation had been handled and one offered a sincere apology; however, the one who chased me down the sidewalk acted very defensive. I understand that shoplifting happens all too often, but the way the situation was handled is inexcusable. It's a lovely store, but one I will not go to again.

One of the dog toys on display was $45 (and that was the one they recommended we buy after we were asked about what we were looking for). We got a single stuffed Monkey with one squeaker for $26 before tax. That's a huge mark up compared to prices online and at other pet stores.
Tristan I — Google review
Disappointed. :( I was so excited to stop by with my new rescue...I knew the shop had been in town for a couple years.....The lady in there was really nice - and gave Vega a treat - but there was almost no inventory. And the things they did have were insanely priced. The giant treat display/island that takes up a quarter+ of the store - most bins were empty. and they only had 1 of most things they had - and after a little research, it seems they don't have wholesale accounts because everything I looked at was about 210% of MSRP. (this would also explain only having 1 of every toy since wholesalers generally dont let you order singles of ANYTHING) We spent $85 just because we wanted the things - and it was more about the experience with the new rescue than the prices..... However we would have bought a lot more had the prices been fair. For example - a basic water bowl we walked out with for $35 is $17 anywhere online, plus they had their "Large" bowl tagged as an XL..... and the 8-10" owl toy I wanted to get her was $52 dollars! I found it on petsmart, the manufacturers website, chewy, and everywhere else for $24. Maybe they do a lot of business in fancy dogfood....but I didnt see any, or other customers. Kinda seemed like a tax write-off for their other location(s) that I learned about after studying my receipt - that did not say "Stella Blues". Just my personal opinions and review. I know Blowing Rock well.

Dan contacted the manufacturer and arranged a drop ship of the item directly to my home. I received it in a very timely manner. Great variety for sports team goods in this local store, but what I appreciate most about them is their customer service. In my check-out process a book we purchased was misplaced and something I didn't discover until we were several hours away. In the most positive example of customer service, the owner followed up with me as he promised and upon confirming we did indeed pay for the book offered to mail a copy to our home. As the daughter of a small business owner, I have such a deep appreciation for the values they represent and am so emotionally invested in their success. Wishing special luck to this husband/wife duo in their success.

John who runs the men's section is wonderful, always willing to give advice and not pushy. This store is definitely worth a visit if you're in Blowing Rock!
During our most recent visit to BR we discovered there is an upstairs men’s section of J.W.Tweeds and were pleasantly greeted and assisted by their staff. They helped us find our sizes, even opened the wrapped shirts for us at the counter, put them on hangers, and brought them to us to try on. Wonderfully attentive store. A nice selection of beautiful high-quality clothing and we left with several fun shirts. We will be returning during our next trip!

Very nice, but won't alter anything but their own clothing. This doesn't help when you need to wear a specific suit for a wedding where everyone wears that same suit.

I was in the store two weeks ago. I loved their selection of men's clothes. Carol did a terrific job helping me coordinate a sport coat with different shirts. They are so much better than big box stores that don't understand their products, have the same appreciation for quality or listen to customers. I showed the coat to my father-in-law. Nestled in a charming village in Blowing Rock, The Village Shoppes On Main Street is a delightful collection of stores including Cafe Violette, Celestes, Almost Rodeo Drive, and Unwound. What makes this shopping area special is the beautifully decorated stores that are worth exploring. A hidden gem here is the public restroom located at the back of the building. It's recommended to have your wallet and camera ready when visiting this unique shopping destination.
The stores are so unique within this little village in Blowing Rock. I was thrilled to be able to take my brothers to visit these shoppes in the Autumn because all the store owners really go out of their way to decorate beautifully! If you're in this area it's definitely worth your while to visit & be sure to have both your wallet & your camera within easy reach.

Antique store
Blowing Rock Estate Jewelry is a family-owned store that has been specializing in platinum, 14 and 18 kt fine and estate jewelry since 1988. They offer a large selection of diamonds, precious colored gems, and antique heirloom jewelry. Visitors have shared their experiences at the store, with some expressing disappointment over the lack of immediate attention from staff while others have found the service to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
Browsing in Blowing Rock in July, my dear friend took me to Blowing Rock Estate Jewelry to show me a ring she had been admiring. I fell in love with an exquisite diamond and sapphire ring and purchase it on the spot - it was exactly what I had been looking for. It really spoke to me! I took the piece to my hometown jeweler just to verify that all the stones were in fact real (they are!) and everything about the piece matched the appraisal that Susie gave me with my purchase. Five weeks after my purchase one of the beautiful sapphires fell out of the ring and was lost. I called Susie, and she gave me instructions on exactly what to do to return the ring to her. She and her father sent the ring out to a specialty jeweler who repaired it and it was received back at Blowing Rock Estate jewelry today. I am so happy to be able to wear this gorgeous ring! Many thanks to Susie and her family; I could not have asked for a better service.

We came up to visit our son at Appalachian State and we decided to walk the trail nearby downtown Blowing Rock. The mud was so bad on the trail so I turned around & found my way back into town and did some exploring. When I walked into the store, the employee was busy with a customer. I took some pics for my Google review and some time passed and the lady never greeted me or said, “I’ll be with you in a moment.” It was quite disappointing. I did, however, say something to her when I was heading out. She did explain that she was trying to wrap up with the previous customer because she was in a hurry or something like that. I did really enjoy the few minutes of browsing the vintage and antique Jewelry. I’ve been a collector for years, and they have quite a bit to choose from. Some pieces look really spectacular and it’s worth a visit if you are in the market. I may come back when I am interested in adding another piece to my jewelry collection.

I first saw a Columbian Emerald ring I liked & Susie quoted $4K. I thought it over & called her back in January to see if still available & it was and she again quoted $4K. I don't make spur of the moment decisions on an item with this price tag without se thought. She saw I was very in in the ring & sent to an appraiser. Then price doubled! I feel she should have stuck to her word on price. It obviously did not sell thru Christmas & she stated normally did not stay open the mth of January --only by appointment. I will never do business there again & would advise shoppers to be very careful buying anything with her there. I was ready to go Sat, Feb 11th and.biy ring. She informed me did not want to discuss any further & look in previous text for price to buy ring now. This will be reported to Better Business Bureau as I told her.
Shelia V — Google review
BUYER BEWARE!! Jim, Marlene and Susie don’t tell the truth. I bought a ring from Marlene several years ago. A diamond fell out. I went to 3 jewelers that told me to take it back where I bought it. Susie told me that they didn’t repair jewelry to take it to Village Jewelers. Another diamond fell out, a couple months ago, after several attempts to find them open, I went in . Jim and Marlene were there. He told me that he would take my ring to their repair man in Charlotte that weekend. I told them I was going on vacation and they said that they would meet me . I asked them the charge and he looked at Marlene and she said , Oh no charge, we will take care of it. He texted me a month later and said for me to come pick up my ring that he would not repair or reset my diamond. He had never taken it to Charlotte as he said he would. I WOULD never do business with these people. I took it back to Village Jewelers, and they are sending it to be repaired. Charlie and Joy Travis are honest people .

We visited a few days ago and enjoyed looking through the assortment of rings. Susie was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, even helping me to determine my ring size! Though we didn’t leave with anything this time around, I know we will be back!

The store also features outdoor bronze statues and other home furnishings at reasonable prices. Customers appreciate the personalized service provided by Carlos, the longtime owner, who helps them find the perfect rug to fit their space and lifestyle.
We are so grateful for The Rug Company in Blowing Rock NC! Brian was extremely helpful! We needed to find a rug that would transition between three rooms! The Rug Company has a wide selection and we were able to find a rug that we absolutely love! Thank you! Highly recommend The Rug Company!
Lisa S — Google review
Cannot say enough good things about Carlos and his business. From the time we walked in we were welcomed and helped in our search for a rug that met our needs. Carlos and his assistant dedicated their time to showing us numerous rugs while educating is on the differences in the rugs. By the time we left, with a rug, we felt like old friends. Highly recommend anyone doing business here.
Jeff S — Google review
My family and I discovered this gem of a shop while vacationing this Summer in Blowing Rock. The rug selection is vast and everyone who works here is extremely knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly. We purchased two large kilim rugs and one smaller one. The guys shipped all three along with rug pads to our home. Each was packed with care and arrived safe and sound. We are enjoying them now in our home!
Cole B — Google review
What an amazing store! Very safe, great selection and they help you find the shapes and patterns you need to fit your space and budget. It took us a while to find the right rug for our living room, but we are beyond thrilled with the result! A great shopping experience, and an education besides.
Nancy M — Google review
The rugs were in tall piles on the floor. Since rugs are heavy, you can only see the top rug and the corner of the rugs *at the top* of the pile - it’s too hard to turn the upper rugs up to view the lower rugs due to the weight! They offer to help you view the rugs, but this is impractical, in reality, because how can you know if you want to see a rug if you can’t even see a corner of it? — you would need them to take every single rug from the pile so you can view each one. A more practical manner of displaying the rugs would definitely increase this business’s amount of sales! (Hanging them, like they do at Lowe’s, or having a catalog to look through in order to narrow down which ones you’d like them to pull out for you to view - organizing them by primary color would also help the customer know which piles to get help with.
Susan D — Google review
Carlos has sold us beautiful carpets over the years. We especially love the "Pak Kazak's" he has found for us. Very good customer service plus the high quality has made us repeat customers.d

For the designer lovers, this place is beyond your wildest dreams. As a young woman, my mother, God rest her soul, spoiled me with Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and in my 40’s I also acquired some Hermes pieces. I popped into Finley House, skeptical about the bag authenticity. I was impressed by the information presented to me about the designers & how they acquire them from around the globe. It was around closing time last Saturday when I walked in & they still took the time to answer my questions and allowed me to do my Google contribution. If I ever need anything, I know who to turn to for the exquisite. PS Love, love, love, their jewelry, too! Stop by & enjoy 😍 Josephine Local Guide

I have been shopping at the Fig Leaf for the past three or four years. ( Age is playing games with me these days). Why, Fig Leaf? Simple, quality and uniqueness. I save my pennies and then try to get at least one outfit or substantial piece each visit. We are averaging three to four visits a years so as you can tell my pieces are starting to add up. Seriously, give them a try. If nothing else they will make you feel so good while you are visiting with them.

CLOSED I drove over to Blowing Rock to shop for a Birthday card. I saw that Pandora's Mailbox carried unique brands such as Mik Wright. To my surprise that it was closed at 1:30 on a Tuesday. What I saw was a painted sign above the door that said call to make an appointment! I never expected that a greeting card shop be that exclusive. My bad that I thought a retail establishment would be open during normal business hours. Perhaps they should include shop hours/ call for an appointment online to save wasted trips.

Almost Rodeo Drive, LTD is a upscale women's clothing and jewelry store that is open year-round. It specializes in creating styles that are recognizable and unique, making it a great choice for gifts for any occasion.
Spent an afternoon in Blowing Rock, NC shopping and walking around. The moment we entered Almost Rodeo Drive we were greeted in a friendly, no-pressure way by several of the very helpful sales reps. My friend and I found multiple shirts, sweaters, jackets and more to try on, culminating in each of us making a purchase. The brands they carry include Clara Sun Woo and my favorite Canadian designer Joseph Ribkoff. Many of the brands are made in the USA, which is a huge plus for me. Their stock is fantastic, and service even better. I bought an adorable top, and before leaving the store found another top I wanted to buy, however they were out of stock in my size. I left my contact info and Cara McCall contacted me that they could ship the top to me. Deal! It arrived a few days after our shopping day, so I am impressed and would recommend this shop when visiting Blowing Rock.
