Nestled in the heart of Bali, the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is a captivating Hindu temple complex surrounded by lush jungle. This enchanting destination is famous for its playful long-tailed macaques, who roam freely among ancient temples adorned with intricate carvings. Visitors can immerse themselves in both nature and spirituality as they explore this community-led sanctuary, which serves as a hub for scientific research and cultural preservation.
The Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud was one of the highlights of my trip to Bali. The moment you step inside, you feel like you’ve entered a magical jungle—huge banyan trees, moss-covered statues, and peaceful temple ruins all hidden within the forest. It’s not just a tourist attraction, it really feels like a sacred place. Of course, the monkeys are the stars here. They’re playful, cheeky, and endlessly entertaining to watch. I loved seeing them jump from tree to tree, care for their babies, and interact naturally with each other. It felt like being a guest in their world rather than just looking at animals behind cages. What impressed me most is how well the sanctuary is maintained. The paths are clean and easy to walk, the temples are stunning, and there are staff around to make sure both visitors and monkeys stay safe. I also appreciated the clear rules—they remind you to respect the animals and enjoy observing them without disturbing their natural behavior or even to feed them. I’d recommend going in the morning when it’s cooler and less crowded. Bring your camera (you’ll want a hundred photos!), but keep your belongings secure because the monkeys are curious and love to “borrow” things.
Souad Y — Google review
This was my 4th time visiting the monkey forest and I loved it. Despite what you hear about monkey aggression, you just have to follow the rules and signs. I did make eye contact with a monkey by accident and it grabbed me which I found quite funny to be honest. It didn’t hurt me, and it was my mistake lol. To add to that, I have never been attacked or seen anyone badly injured here. Honestly, it was heartwarming to see the local Balinese bonding and feeding the monkeys, you can tell they are trained and know what they are doing. I really enjoy the fact that these monkeys are able to free roam. It may be scary for humans, but it is great that they are not chained or caged. It is so nice to see the Balinese genuinely care for these gorgeous animals. At the end of the day, you are in the monkeys home. Treat them with respect and they shall leave you be. It’s a really beautiful and breezy area. The natural landscape of this place is breathtaking.
Erin M — Google review
A nice casual walk in the park. There are a lot of monkeys but they are not aggressive. There are conservation staff around to park to ensure that the interactions between the guests and monkeys are safe and ethical. The monkeys are not particularly afraid of humans and may climb onto a person, although no feeding is allowed. Most part of the park is shaded and in forest area. Bring bug spray. There’s a nice and easy walking trail through the forest and lots of relics to look at.
Lydia M — Google review
If you're a fan of monkeys and Balinese sculpture, you will love this lush green forest. It is a well-designed sanctuary with a good pathway system that makes for an easy walk. The monkeys are everywhere and very entertaining to see. It was a great spot to spend an hour or so.
Radley C — Google review
This place is absolutely beautiful, magical, and full of wanderlust energy! Monkeys are everywhere swinging from trees, lounging on railings, and living their best lives. The forest itself feels like stepping into another world, surrounded by lush greenery and ancient temples covered in moss. It’s incredible to watch these monkeys up close (just hold onto your belongings!). I had such a fun and unforgettable experience here. The monkeys truly seem to be living great lives in their sacred jungle home.
Rachel F — Google review
Our visit to the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud was one of the most unforgettable highlights of our trip to Bali as a couple. From the moment we entered the lush, green sanctuary, we were transported into a magical world where nature, culture, and wildlife coexist in the most serene and fascinating way. The towering ancient trees and moss-covered statues created an almost otherworldly atmosphere—perfect for strolling hand in hand and taking in the beauty and spirituality of the space. The Balinese architecture and sacred temples scattered throughout the forest added a deep cultural richness to the experience. The monkeys themselves were a joy to watch—cheeky, clever, and completely in their element. We followed the guidelines and kept a respectful distance, which allowed us to enjoy their antics without feeling uneasy. Watching them play, groom, and leap through the trees was pure entertainment, and seeing the babies clinging to their mothers was heart-melting. What made it extra special as a couple was how peaceful and bonding the experience felt. It wasn’t just a tourist attraction—it was a walk through living, breathing spirituality and nature. We took time to sit on a bench together, surrounded by ancient trees and the sound of the forest, just soaking it all in. Truly a memory we’ll always share. Highly recommend visiting early in the morning to avoid the crowds and enjoy the quiet majesty of the place. Whether you’re seeking connection, culture, or just a bit of cheeky monkey fun, this sanctuary is a must-visit. A perfect stop for couples exploring the heart of Ubud.
Scott S — Google review
Amazing! The monkeys were very chill during our visit. I had heard stories about them stealing belongings, but we didn’t see any of that. The place felt peaceful, entertaining, and truly magical.
Maritza B — Google review
I absolutely love the Sacred Monkey Forest. It is one of my favorite places to visit in Ubud. There are a few monkeys that can be a bit territorial, but the majority of them are extremely comfortable with all the people and just want to play or chill out. You can buy tickets in advance, but you don’t need to. There are plenty of kiosks or if you prefer to purchase them from a person, I’ve never seen much of a line.

Scenic Walking Areas
The Campuhan Ridge Walk is a delightful escape into nature, perfect for those looking to unwind from the hustle and bustle of city life. This scenic trail offers a gentle hike with breathtaking views of lush hills and valleys, making it an ideal spot for leisurely strolls or cycling. Starting at the historic confluence of the Wos River, this trek allows you to immerse yourself in Ubud's natural beauty while breathing in the fresh air.
We went on this walk at 6.30am to avoid the heat and crowds. It was overcast and cooler than normal. Depending on on fitness level this is a easy walk. However, be aware that there are steps and incline sections which could challenge some people. Great views and a village at the end where you could catch a taxi, if you didn’t want to turn around and walk back. We also stopp d at a lovely resort at the end of the walk for breakfast.

A serene, peaceful escape, with a river flowing on one side and lush forest on the other. It's an ideal spot for a tranquil sunrise walk. Has a temple at the start and end of trail. The path leads to an art village, where you can unwind at charming cafés afterward. A perfect blend of nature and culture, perfect for relaxation.
Anusha D — Google review
A lovely walk. Best done early or late in the day this is casual stroll from Ubud. The path is easy to follow but not really suitable for disabled access as there's stairs along the way. The surrounding vegetation is a little overgrown with weeds in sections but the walk is well worth allowing a couple of hours when in the area.
Ian W — Google review
Nice place to walk not far from the city. You have a good walking trail, but most of it expose to the sun. You can't go of the walking way to gind you a nice quit place in the wood. On start from south you can reach the river. On the north point you have some galeres and coffee shoe. If you need to get by walk to your entry point, start from south because there is a hilll to go, and it will be nicer to go down after you finish you walking.
Bar S — Google review
Beautiful walk. Lots of up and down and stairs. If someone has trouble walking won't be too good for them. It is very hot as well. This Campuhan Ridge Walk can be a leisurely hike and takes around 30 to 45 minutes each way. Ofcourse depending on your pace and how often you stop for photos. I didn't go too far as it was very hot and humid but the entire round trip can be completed in about 1.5 hours. I also recommend wearing comfortable sneakers or walking shoes because the path is uneven in some places. If you plan to explore the nearby villages or stop at one of the cafés along the way, you might want to allow a bit more time. I stopped at a beautiful temple to visit just before starting the trail, so I would probably dedicate half a day to this visit. Lush greenery everywhere. It's free to enter the place.
Globetrekker S — Google review
It's a round-trip hike. We only walked the one-way route, entering from the north and exiting. Most people enter through the entrance and then turn back facing north. If you come from the entrance, you'll have to climb uphill like a mountain hike, but if you start from the north, it's mostly downhill. The walk from the north only took about 30 minutes. It's quite short, but the atmosphere is great.
김지수 — Google review
Spewing I didn’t get up earlier to enjoy the sunrise colours. I began the walk around 6am… the path is clean with few people around so it’s quite peaceful. Views from the ridge are lovely and friendly faces along the path made it a warm morning. I stopped at Karsa Spa for my booked massages and was very impressed. Am going to try lunch next door now
Sarah R — Google review
The pavement/walkway was so clean and serene. Come early to avoid the heat. I didn't go all the way to the other side but you can enjoy the calm village view and had smoothie, fruits or coffee on your way.

Visitor Centers
Ubud Palace, located on the famous Monkey Forest Road, is a must-visit destination in Bali. The palace features traditional Balinese architecture and hosts enchanting dance performances in its courtyard. Surrounded by lush greenery, it offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Bali. With its vibrant atmosphere and captivating performances, Ubud Palace provides an immersive experience for visitors looking to soak up Balinese culture.
We paid about $6.00 to get in, and overall, this was a pretty cool first stop to experience some Balinese history and temple architecture. The palace grounds give you a quick glimpse into traditional Balinese culture, but it’s definitely more of a short visit — About 15 minutes is enough to see most of it. The location is convenient, right across from the Ubud Marketplace and Starbucks, so it’s easy to pair the two experiences together and get some shopping done. The palace itself has beautiful details and feels like a calm pocket of history in the middle of Ubud’s busy center. That said, there are a lot of people visiting, so if you want to take photos, be prepared to wait 15 minutes or more just for a clear shot. Outside, you’ll also find plenty of taxi drivers asking if you need a ride, which can be a little overwhelming. The biggest downside is that there aren’t any public restrooms on-site, since the palace is still someone’s private home — So plan ahead before visiting. For the price, it’s still worth checking out, especially if you’re already exploring central Ubud, but it’s definitely more of a quick stop than an in-depth experience. Pro Tips - Go early in the morning to avoid heavy crowds and get better photo opportunities. - Be prepared for lots of taxi drivers outside offering rides—politely decline if you’re not interested. - No public restrooms are available since it’s still a private residence, so plan bathroom breaks before or after. - Pair your visit with Ubud Market right across the street for a fuller experience.
Lily S — Google review
If you’re already in Ubud, the palace is worth a quick stop, but honestly, there isn’t much to see inside. From a religious and cultural aspect it holds value for the Balinese people, but for tourists it can feel underwhelming—just a few closed doors and crowded pathways in the middle of Ubud’s busy center. You can walk through the grounds in about 3–5 minutes, and the admission during the day is free, which is a plus. The gardens are well maintained, the carvings are beautiful, and the atmosphere carries historic charm. It’s also right in the city center, so convenient if you’re already out shopping or exploring nearby attractions. That said, the real highlight here is in the evening. The palace transforms into a venue for nightly traditional Balinese dance performances such as Legong and Barong. The show costs 100,000 IDR per person (cash only) and is absolutely worth it. The music of the gamelan orchestra, the elaborate costumes, and the graceful movements of the dancers create an enchanting cultural experience. Arrive early—people gather as early as 6:30 pm for good seats, with the performance starting at 7:30. Sitting closer to the front gives the best view, but if you prefer comfort, choose a chair instead of the carpet. Be careful of monkeys in the area—they can be aggressive and snatch belongings if you’re not cautious. Also note, the daytime visit alone isn’t particularly memorable, but the evening performance is where Ubud Palace truly shines. Overall, it’s a well-maintained landmark with historical and cultural importance, but the dance show is the part that makes it worth recommending.
Shivangi G — Google review
This was our first stop on our Bali trip. We visited the palace and purchased tickets for the Legong of Mahabharata Epic dance show. The palace itself isn’t very big—the part open to visitors is quite small—but it does offer some beautiful photo opportunities and gives you those old Balinese vibes. We came back later in the evening for the show. Outside, you’ll find old ladies selling beers, chips, rain covers, and more. Prices are quoted high, so a little negotiation helps. The show was fantastic. They provide a pamphlet explaining the different dance performances, which is worth reading to better understand what’s happening on stage. The dancers, musicians, and overall performance were excellent. While the show runs for about 1–1.5 hours and might feel a bit long for some, I personally found it really engaging. All in all, Ubud Palace is a must-stop when in Ubud!
Arushi C — Google review
We visited Ubud Palace, Bali in November 2024 and loved the experience. The traditional Balinese architectures are stunning, and there are great photo spots throughout. Outside, you’ll find small shops selling local crafts and souvenirs. We were lucky to catch a Balinese festival at that time - with music, offerings, and traditional dress, which made the visit even more special. A beautiful place to explore Balinese culture and heritage. Can add it to your itinerary if you are visiting Ubud.
Sreejith S — Google review
Very vibrant modern surroundings with ancient energy inside. Place is very small but is full with Dharmic signs and energy. Many statues were covered so it was bit disappointing , it would have been great if all statues were shown to visitors. But full marks to people of Bali for only preserving their Hindu heritage but also living it. Bali has so many things to cover, so it’s not possible in 5 days cover to even cover 25% of places.
Ashok S — Google review
Ubud Palace, also known as Puri Saren Agung, is one of the most beautiful and historically rich landmarks in the heart of Ubud. My visit here was truly enchanting — the palace beautifully showcases traditional Balinese architecture with its intricate carvings, golden details, and serene courtyards filled with tropical plants. It’s a perfect place to feel the essence of Balinese culture and royalty. The palace is not very large, but every corner tells a story of heritage and spirituality. The preserved buildings and stone sculptures reflect the traditional craftsmanship of Bali’s golden age. It’s located right in the center of Ubud, close to the art market, making it convenient to explore both in a single visit. I also enjoyed the evening traditional dance performance held in the palace courtyard — it was mesmerizing, with graceful dancers, colorful costumes, and live gamelan music creating an unforgettable experience. Entry to the palace during the day is free, and it’s well maintained with friendly staff who are happy to share information about its history. Visiting at sunset adds a magical glow to the atmosphere. Overall, Ubud Palace is a must-visit cultural gem in Bali — a place that connects you deeply to the island’s artistic soul and royal heritage.
Dikendra G — Google review
We couodnt make in time to see the palace as it closes by 5.30 or 6 but we bought tickets to watch the dance performance at the palace. The dance performance started at 7 and was great. I think they could make it shorter and less costlier than more people will visit and stay throughout the performance.
Prachi C — Google review
Nice place, but crowded. We went there for Legong dance show. It was the first time seeing such a balinese dance, was interesting but since we had to sit on the floor for a good spot it was a bit exhausting to watch it an hour long. We were there half an hour before the show. So if you want to have good seats you should probably be there way earlier

Flea & Street Markets
The Ubud Art Market is a bustling hub of Balinese craftsmanship, offering a diverse array of unique items such as handicrafts, batik, accessories, and clothing. Visitors can explore the market's offerings and haggle with vendors for one-of-a-kind souvenirs. It's recommended to compare prices across different stalls, negotiate with sellers, and inquire about the authenticity of goods.
I really enjoyed visiting Ubud Art Market. It's full of colours and I loved walking around and exploring the different stalls, each selling unique handmade decor, bags, coasters, jewellery and souvenirs. Most of the vendors are warm and welcoming. Bargaining made my shopping experience even more exciting! Carry cash!
Neetha A — Google review
Yes, it is geared for tourists and yes, you must haggle but some people like that. We arrived at 11:15 and it was starting to get busy. When we left and hour later it was hopping with people. We started in the building and then to the street market next door. Same stuff, smaller aisles. Ask how much, they name a price, you counter with half, and then the bargaining starts. It's fun and the shop keepers were not pushy at all. Hubby got a t-shirt for 130k and was happy. Warning! Lots of wooden penis on sale. Prep your kids! Across the street from the old Royal Palace.
Robin M — Google review
Most of the prices are 3x the selling price we see at stores in Sanur Harbor. Even if you haggle, you will just be able to haggle it to the original selling price. So don’t buy unless you don’t have time to look elsewhere or want a challenge to haggle until you deem the price is worth the item. We were able to buy some items that I didn’t see in other places like the patched up pants.
Corinne — Google review
A vibrant place full of handicrafts, souvenirs, and Balinese art. Prices can be quite expensive, so make sure you have good bargaining skills. Parking is a bit difficult, but aside from that, it’s a great spot to explore and experience the local atmosphere.
Romie M — Google review
A large market with many similar stalls—it can feel a bit repetitive, as most shops sell the same items. Prices are inflated for tourists, so bargaining is expected, and you can often bring the price down by half or more, which makes it hard to know the real value. While the setting is lively and picturesque, giving you a nice spot to wander if you’re already in the area, it feels more tourist-oriented than authentic. We noticed the same goods being sold in many other parts of Bali, so don’t expect unique local craftsmanship here. Do check out the second floor if you visit, but overall, I wouldn’t return as it lacked originality.
Shivangi G — Google review
Ubud Art Market is a vibrant and colorful place that truly reflects the artistic soul of Bali. Located right in the heart of Ubud, this market is packed with beautiful handmade items — from wooden carvings and rattan bags to batik clothes, paintings, and jewelry. Every corner is filled with creativity and craftsmanship, making it a must-visit for anyone who loves local art and culture. One of the best parts of shopping here is the bargaining experience. The initial price that vendors quote is usually much higher than the actual selling value, so don’t hesitate to negotiate — it’s part of the fun! In many cases, you can get items for half or even one-third of the first price if you bargain politely and with a smile. For example, if something starts at 300,000 IDR, you can often get it for around 100,000 IDR or even less. It’s a great feeling when you walk away with a good deal while supporting local artisans. Just take your time, explore the different stalls, and enjoy the friendly conversations with the sellers. Overall, Ubud Art Market is not just a shopping stop — it’s a cultural experience where your bargaining skills can truly shine!
Dikendra G — Google review
Pretty big market full of souvenirs and clothes. Everyone is happy to bargain, basically the price they tell you at first is always highly overpriced. If the say something cost 300k you can buy it at 150k easily or start bargaining and get it down to 50-100k rupees. Never ever accept initial pricing. We bought a bunch of souvenirs and clothes here. Pricing for the magnets is about +-20k, most of the clothes (tshirts, shorts, etc) you can get at 50-100k.
Ilya L — Google review
An extremely lively market with indoor, outdoor and most adjacent lanes packed with Balinese handicrafts. Hard Bargains are a must since the initial price quoted will always be 2-2.5x higher on most products. Some sellers are quite persistent and will go the whole nine yards to make the sale happen. Many others, won't even bother to negotiate and wave you away. A comparatively higher priced market than other neighborhoods within Bali. Coffee shops are dime a dozen along with money changers here.

Nestled just a few kilometers north of Ubud, the Neka Art Museum stands as a vibrant testament to both traditional and modern Balinese artistry. Established in 1975 by art collector Suteja Neka, this museum showcases an impressive array of works from renowned 20th-century painters and contemporary Indonesian artists. The architecture itself is a stunning representation of Balinese design, creating an inviting atmosphere for visitors.
I visited the Neka Art Museum this morning (Sunday) and really enjoyed it. I had the place to myself as I wandered around. There were wonderful examples of traditional Balinese art and carvings with some western artists in there too. The buildings and grounds were peaceful and immaculately clean and I'd recommend this place if you'd like somewhere away from the crowds and a little less touristy. There was also a cafe on site which I didn't try and the opportunity to try some Balinese arts and craft classes that looked interesting.
Angela P — Google review
Balinese art is not my cup of tea but there is a lot of classical and contemporary art here. The museum is large and you can easily spend an afternoon exploring if you enjoy art.
Johnny T — Google review
I fell in love with this place. There’s some exceptional Balinese and contemporary art. The place is magical with beautiful grounds, ponds, trees and seating areas. We visited early in the morning and was able to enjoy the place on our own. Definitely worth the price.
Fahad J — Google review
Wanted to visit this place since my research showed that there was a forge here to demonstrate forging a keris. Walking in here piqued my wife's and my interest from the start. The intricate wooden carvings and old school paintings. My wife and I didn't have much interest in the modern section so we skipped those parts. The highlight for this trip were the 2 halls full of keris's. As a maker myself, the attention to detail and references was out of this world. This itself made the trip worth it. You'll have to book the forging demonstration in advance for the blacksmiths to prepare. I was unfortunate enough to have missed that detail but at least I got to have a look at the forging area.
Nigel K — Google review
Loved the Neka Art Museum, there are a lot of pieces from European artists that have lived in Bali and that was a great surprise. It's well maintained and it was almost empty, so we had the place mostly for ourselves. It will take you around an hour and a half or two to explore the whole museum. It's completely worth the visit and it's really close to other nice things to do in Ubud.

If you are into art or art history, this is a must. Mix of historical and contemporary art including Balinese traditional swords. We were the only visitor at that time. Although the entrance fee is high, find this more worthwhile than the other museum near ubud palace. Worth visiting especially if you are interested in some contemporary balinese themed artworks. There were also a lot of works of other nationalities depicting Balinese culture.

Though not cheap to enter, we felt the price was worth it. Beautiful collection of artwork which was paired with thorough and interesting descriptions of each subject. Art styles were varied, but all very enjoyable. Not crowded at all. No A/C, but it wasn't hot thanks to a nice breeze. The ticket includes a small bottle of water and a couple sweet crisps. Bathroom was very clean. Plenty of secure parking on site.

It has a massive collection: paintings, keris, sculptures. The garden is lush. There's a significant collection of Affandi here. There is also Lempad, which I admire a lot. I really enjoyed my time here. The ticket price was 150,000 for adults (Indonesian citizen).

Nestled in the heart of Ubud, Pura Taman Kemuda Saraswati, also known as the Ubud Water Palace, is a breathtaking Hindu temple that pays homage to the goddess Saraswati. As you stroll along a picturesque pathway over serene lotus ponds, you'll be captivated by its intricate stone architecture and lush surroundings. This tranquil oasis offers an escape from the busy world outside, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in its beauty and spirituality.
Very nice. They have the traditional garb for you to wear, but it was damp from previous wearers not understanding the use of umbrellas… The temple itself is pretty and a nice 10 min stroll around. Some cool sculptures and it must be great to watch the traditional dancing they do here!! Can have a drink or food at lotus cafe with good view of temple and fountains as well.
Shane K — Google review
Beautiful temple costing 60k per person. You dress up in traditional clothes so everyone is wearing purple which just makes the place even more stunning. The water features are gorgeous too. The only downside is that it is quite small so you do have to wait a little while sometimes to have your photo taken.
Coralie P — Google review
It was ok, but be aware that visitors are not allowed inside the temple at all, so all you get to see for the entrance fee is the gardens and ponds at the front. They're pretty, for sure, but it's not quite what we were expecting. I understand it's culturally important and they don't want to be overrun with tourists, but it's disappointing to get there and find out you can't actually see the best bits. The front also houses a Starbucks (!!!) and big restaurant, so it's not exactly capturing the authentic temple feel.
Chris C — Google review
A very beautiful landmark in the heart of central Ubud. Very close to the Ubud Palace and is a must visit place. There is of course entrance fees to be paid. All visitors are provided traditional attire and it looks really nice. There are cultural performances every evening. A lot of restaurants and cafes are there within the compound and nearby.
Birat B — Google review
Disappointing After seeing this online, I was very keen to visit. However, after I was left disappointed. It appears they have made some renovations/changes this year and not for the most positive. The stepping stones have been added to the lily pad ponds but I’m not sure if that’s to the detriment of the lily pads…. Didn’t look as healthy as previous photos. The main area of the temple is no longer public accessible so you’re really just seeing the front garden. Which you could just look at from the road without paying the entrance fee. The traditional Balinese dress is required to be worn, but is just passed onto the next person and on a hot day is very sweaty and grubby. Also just comes in one size. So if you are a bit taller or wider it doesn’t fit correctly and just probs make a bit of a mockery of it all rather than being culturally sensitive
Jack S — Google review
If you buy tickets online they will be cheaper than at the entrance. Dress in traditional clothes. Honestly, I think you need to come here early in the morning, as we were there at 12 noon and there were a lot of people, it was hard to take photos. The temple itself, the architecture and the decor are very cool.

Fun little stop on our journey. We took some pictures in the thrones and enjoyed a Starbucks drink before we entered. Nice that they provided the traditional dress for us and a free juice on the way out.

Perched on a hill overlooking the Campuhan valley, The Blanco Renaissance Museum was once the residence and studio of the vibrant artist Antonio Blanco. Known for his fascination with the female form, Blanco's collection features fantasy portraits of women in watercolors, collages, and erotic sketches. While not extensive, the museum showcases family portraits in an adjoining studio. Visitors are greeted by lithographic artworks of nude Balinese women displayed in a spacious marble hall.
The parrots were so so so adorable! I’ve never been this close to little parrots before—they even bowed their heads asking for pets! Oh my god, awww! And the staff helped me take photos with them, letting the parrots perch on my shoulder and stuff—just too cute!! The entry ticket was around $10 AUD per person, which is totally worth it. It was very quiet inside with hardly any people, but the place had so much character. Even though there’s no air conditioning, walking around or sitting in the garden was actually quite pleasant. Highly recommend this place, though the parrots were more beautiful than the paintings—much more captivating. Lol
Alison G — Google review
This museum houses the paintings of Antonio Blanco a Spaniard who was born in the Philippines then moved to Bali and settled here. It’s a beautiful quiet place. The parrots were my favourite part I got to hold them and take photos they are lovely and have such a calming energy. There were very few people and my mom and I enjoyed strolling around together. We enjoyed the quiet garden with the fountain and fishes 🐟 also the beautiful friendly parrots 🦜 there’s a plant based restaurant next door as well with some nice gelato and great service and views! I would totally recommend this place and the gelato next door to cool down after a long day of walking

What an incredible museum. It was awesome to see the Dali of Bali/Antonio Blancos artwork in person. And to also see all the intricate beautiful frames along with his amazing paintings. They frames are an artwork in itself!! From the moment you walk in... you'll feel a unique energy... his paintings welcome you to his vivid imagination and talented vision. Spent a few hours admiring his marvellous works and his art studio where I met Bill the hornbilll!! It was so lovely to see his family home, creative space / studio. I especially loved the unique wall art pieces and his ode to Salvador Dali!! ✨️💕
Shy — Google review
Such a lovely museum! They offer many ways to explore Blanco’s life and that of his family — his studio, the beautiful garden with exotic birds, photographs, paintings, his authentic painting space, and films. To my surprise, his granddaughter suddenly appeared next to me and offered to share more about him and their family, even giving me a personal tour. It was such an authentic and personal experience. I would definitely recommend visiting!

Put this on your list of Top 100 things to do in Ubud. In other words there are 99 better things to do in Ubud than set foot in this badly-lit, dusty, self-Indulgent museum to a mediocre artist. The building and its grounds are impressive but that’s where it ends. Save your 100 IDR entrance fee and use it instead for a couple of patisserie at one of Ubuds best restaurants right next door at Plant Bistro. Here’s a picture of one of the displays at the museum to give you a taste of what you’re missing!
David C — Google review
An excellent museum and a striking example of what can be achieved in a small provincial town like Ubud, using the legacy of a local (and international) art legend — the painter Antonio Blanco. PS His paintings, rich in sensuality and detail, are sure to appeal even to the most refined artistic tastes. Note that photography inside the museum is not allowed.
Roman R — Google review
I came expecting a nice relaxing art viewing but I was disappointed. The place was beautiful but my god it's so HOT inside, I was sweating like crazy and it makes me not comfortable to be in the museum for too long. The birds were cute though, and the staff was nice and would offer to take your pics. But honestly for the ticket price of 55k it wasn't worth it overall

We had a lovey morning at the museum. Staff were very friendly and knowledgable and the grounds were as beautiful as the art inside. A morning well spent.

for those who loves art, paintings and want to know a little bit of art history in Bali/Ubud this is the place, more then 300 paints and sculptures. Besides that beautiful gardens and resto. Must go.

Worth a visit if you’re into art. 🎨 They’ve got some nice gardens and ponds outside, and four buildings showcasing works from old to modern. You can even buy paintings. Personally, I found it a bit boring — was expecting more than just art.
Adrian Z — Google review
The museum is a must go to see a piece of the history of Balinese art. It’s not well conserved, but has a great overview of how art has evolved over the centuries. In oct 2025, tickets were 95k IDR with a bottle of water :-). The museum is split into 4 galleries with the south one dedicated to very recent artwork - the least interesting one. The gardens of the museum are beautiful.
Pedro P — Google review
A well curated museum. Alot of Balinese history through art. If you want to take it all in across each building of which there are four, be prepared to spend 90 minutes minimum.
Jovana H — Google review
This is probably among the better art museums in Indonesia. More importantly, it provides a narrative about the development of painting in Bali. The grounds are very beautiful, and given that most tourists won’t bother with a serious museum about art in a place such as Bali, it’s incredibly peaceful.

The Agung Rai Museum of Art, established in 1996 by Balinese native Agung Rai, is dedicated to preserving and promoting Balinese art and culture. It goes beyond being just a museum, offering special exhibitions, theater performances, dance and music classes, a bookshop, library, cultural workshops and more. The museum's collection includes traditional and contemporary works by Balinese, Indonesian and other artists.
This is an AMAZING museum and honestly the only reason to go to Ubud. The couple’s collection is stunning. We were literally the only ones there in the morning, and it was worth the trek over. There are a few buildings and there was an older gentleman who obviously knew the history of the museum and told us about it. - Lovely 🙏. A ticket for a free coffee or cold drink is included in your ticket, and you’ll want to use it in the heat. Definitely go

This place is amazing! I highly recommend going, especially if you want to get away from the Ubud crowds. There was barely anyone there. Not only are the gallerys beatiful, the scenery is too.

This is a really cool space, nice to spend a few hours. Some lovely balenease art in beautiful buildings, set out in a shady gardens. It was interesting to learn about the life of Walter Spies who was a pivotal figure in art of Bali and making Bali known to European tourists. There is also a cafe, and they have evening dance shows and various workshops ( we have not tried them though)

Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking is a must-do experience in Bali, offering breathtaking views of the sunrise over the mountains and the stunning caldera. Located north of Ubud, Mount Batur is one of the most impressive volcanic peaks on the island. Many tour companies offer guided treks starting from Ubud for convenience. The trek to Mount Batur is popular for its combination of an upward hike and a mesmerizing sunrise, making it a sought-after destination in Bali.
Today I took an amazing sunrise hiking to Mt. Batur with Hot Spring bath combo. My driver was Mel and she was very nice to me and on the way explained a lot of things. We took of from Ubud around 2:15 a.m. Around 3:15 we came to the base camp and after short break for coffee our hike started. It was very nice experience to hike during the night. After two hours we achied the top, where we had a nice breakfast and waited for sunrise. The view is really amazing. You have to basically see it.After climbing down we went to hot spring bath and also this was a wonderful experience. Both the trip and the driver Mel strongly recommend.

I have no words for how special & incredible this experience was! HIGHLY recommend booking a tour with this group for those adventurous enough to brave the early morning but worthwhile hike up Mount Batur! We were picked up at 2 AM from our villa in Ubud by our amazing driver, Mangku Angga. We arrived at the base camp around 3:30 AM and were provided with some light refreshments before heading out for our trek around 4 AM with our incredible guide, Ketut. He was so tremendously over-prepared — he gave us ponchos as there was a light drizzle through our incline, brought extra umbrellas, headlamps, hiking poles, etc. He was so informative and helpful especially during the slippery portions of the hike, and communicated excellently in English. We summited by 5:30 AM and got to watch a beautiful sunrise and rainbow emerge at 6:15, with food and hot tea brought to us by our guide. We concluded the tour with the hot springs and coffee plantations - I would say these were nice but not must-do add-ons for the trek. Thank you once again to Ketut and Mangku Angga for such a memorable and incredible experience!

We hiked for about 2 hours with a short break in between. It wasn’t the easiest trek, but absolutely worth it—and there’s also the option to go by car if you prefer. Such a beeaaautiful experience! We went with @cooper_guide based on a friend’s recommendation, and he was incredible—super helpful and an amazing person! You can’t go by yourself on the mountain!

Great experience. Sentana was our driver. He was very careful on the road and drove us to all of our destinations quickly and safely. He also shared a lot of interesting facts about the culture and life in Bali. He was friendly and patient. Ayu was our guide. She was lovely and funny. She took us via an alternative route on the way back from the volcano to avoid the crowd, which was amazing! We walked through the forest, it was peaceful and safe. Totally recommend both of them. We had the best day! ❤️ PS. If you’re thinking if it’s worth visiting the Hot Springs, think no more. It’s amazing.

Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking – Unforgettable Experience with Amazing Guides! Trekking Mount Batur for sunrise was one of the most breathtaking experiences of my life! The hike was challenging but incredibly rewarding, with stunning views of the surrounding volcanoes and Lake Batur. Watching the sunrise from the summit was absolutely magical—the sky lit up in brilliant shades of orange and pink, making every step worth it. A special thanks to our incredible guides, Ery & Moyot, who made this adventure even more memorable. Their expertise, patience, and warm hospitality were outstanding. They ensured our safety, shared fascinating stories about the mountain, and even prepared a simple but delicious breakfast at the top. Their kindness and enthusiasm truly made the experience unforgettable. If you’re planning to hike Mount Batur, I highly recommend requesting Ery & Moyot as your guides—you’ll be in great hands! Thank you, Ery & Moyot, for your exceptional service and for making our sunrise trek so special!** 🌄🙏

Absolutely amazing experience! Sentana was my driver, he picked me up at 2am in Ubud. He’s very knowledgeable about Batur and looked after our group when we arrived. Our guide Wayan then led us up the mountain. He was very friendly and helpful, taking care of everyone and taking lots of photos for us. We enjoyed banana sandwiches and fruit with a hot drink for breakfast and watched an epic sunrise. I would 100% do this tour again and highly recommend it.

Great and highly recommendable experience for anybody that wants to escape the tourist flooded streets of Ubud or Seminyak. The views of the surroundings of Mt Batur and the Kintamani caldera area at dawn are absolutely fantastic. Our driver Mk Angga and our tour guide Bargo were very helpful and friendly. The hike up the slope in the dark (head torches were provided) took us about 75 minutes and although steep and slippery in parts, was easily doable with a standard level of fitness.

Hindu temple
Ubud Water Palace, also known as Pura Taman Saraswati, is a former palace in Ubud that features a lotus pond and water garden. The outer area of the temple is marked by these beautiful features, with plumeria trees adorning the edges of the pond and paras sculptures of Hindu mythological figures decorating the bridge-like access. The palace showcases typical Balinese temple architecture with red brick, white stone, and intricately carved wood.
This place was great fun. Very beautiful and you get to dress in local garments (mandatory for the purpose of respectfully cover up bare skin). This gave a very authentic vibe. Also, they play local music in concert at designated times which was a nice addon. I would consider this mandatory during your stay in Ubud!
Frederik A — Google review
the temple is a must see when you are in the center of Ubud. you get traditional clothing at the entrance so don’t bother bringing a own sarong or similar. the ticket costs 65k per person which is a fair price considering the temple is rather small. something to note is that the temple gives the vibe of a tourist attraction rather than a spiritual place.

An Accidental Discovery: The Ubud Water Temple Show ✨ 5/5 Stars: Unforgettable Night, Great Value! 🤩 We initially planned to visit the Ubud Palace (Puri Saren Agung) but were completely defeated by the massive traffic 🚗💨 and the impossible task of finding car parking nearby. By sheer mistake, we stumbled into the area around the Water Temple (Pura Taman Saraswati) and, thankfully, found a solution. 🙏 Pro Tip for Parking: If you are attending the evening show, I highly recommend parking at the museum just a short walk away. 🏛️ For only 10,000 IDR, they allowed us to park until 10 PM, which perfectly covered the duration of the show and dinner. This accidental detour turned into the highlight of our night! 🌟 The show: The entrance fee for the show itself, at 100,000 IRD, felt entirely justified and worth every single rupiah. The setting alone—the temple lit up at night with the lotus pond surrounding the stage—is breathtaking. 🌸 mesmerizing! The show was lovely, and the dancers were graceful and good. (Despite being at 7.15pm when the shows starts at7.30 we found seat in the third line, the earlier you get the better!) Of course, there is an old saying that applies to any cultural experience: “Perception is the reality.” 🤔 The quality of the evening largely depends on the viewer's preparation and personal outlook. My only significant critique—and one I saw echoed in many online reviews—is the lack of readily available, real-time translations or subtitles. 🗣️❌ In this age of accessible technology, providing a screen with English (or other major language) subtitles underneath the stage is a low-investment feature that would dramatically enhance the experience and attract more visitors. It’s so easy to do now! I, too, missed having that context. 😔 Despite the language barrier, I truly enjoyed the performance. I made sure to quickly Google the story beforehand—in my case, the traditional Balinese tale of Barong and Rangda, which represents the eternal duality between good and evil (Dharma and Adharma). 👹👼 I highly recommend doing this for any Balinese dance show to appreciate the narrative. A huge advantage the Water Temple has over the Ubud Palace show is the location's synergy with the adjacent restaurant. 🍸 Once theshow concludes, you still have the option to enjoy a cocktail or a late dinner at the adjoining restaurant, continuing to admire the lovely temple architecture, illuminated beautifully under the night sky. 🌃 It turned a cultural event into a Lovely evening experience. ✨
Andrea O — Google review
There was a line onto the sidewalk when I visited during the day. Took about 10 minutes to get to the counter. The ticket price includes the purple rental garments, which are mandatory and NOT washed between uses. Pretty gross on a hot, humid day. You can only access the little front area, not the temple area itself. So, everyone is crammed into a fairly small space because there is a pond on either side of the walkway. Too many self-obsessed tourists trying to make videos on the stepping stones, sitting on the throne seats or tapping the bamboo. Whatever whimsy the place might hold, is totally eradicated by the overcrowding tourist flocks. Would definitely be nicer to visit first thing in the morning without crowds and hopefully cleaner garments...

A pretty place to visit when you're visiting Ubud market. It's dedicated to Hindu Goddess Saraswati. Set among a lotus pond, it has an entrance fee of 60k IDR (as in October 2025) for the visit and you must wear their traditional costume to enter, which doesn't require an extra fee.

This is a lovely place to visit in Ubud. However it is a very small palace and can take 5-10 minutes to walk around, honestly it felt more like an Instagram spot than a cultural experience. Though it still was beautiful. Entry cost - 60,000 and the gown was free

Entrance fee : 60000 Salon costume in hot weather almost kills me. Everything is very designed for entertain people, made me feel like Disney land Indiana Jones area. It is calculated well, so after dried up in here we stopped by the cafe next to the cafe right next to the temple. There is nothing very holy atmosphere, just one artificial entertaining place, that's all. All places in here are good for taking pictures but somehow nothing touched me. The cafe next door is ripping off. We had drink and desert but desert picture was so much more than the real desert. And fried banana was cold and very bad taste.

Puri Saren Agung Ubud, also known as Puri Saren Ubud, is a complex designed in traditional Balinese style featuring intricate carvings, statues, and lush gardens. Originally a holiday residence for local aristocracy and artists in the 1800s, it played a significant role in the early days of tourism in Bali. The complex is home to the Barong Dance performance, which depicts the eternal battle between good and evil through elaborate costumes and expressive movements.
Pro tip come around 7 to take good spots when dancing starts. Or wait till mid way of performance as some of people start leaving. I liked the costumes, make up and choreography although it is somewhat repetitive and show is around 2 hours so kinda get bored closer to the end. Nevertheless highly recommend.

Hujan Locale is a modern Indonesian restaurant in Ubud, Bali, created by the renowned chef Will Meyrick. The restaurant offers a stylish and relaxed atmosphere where guests can enjoy a wide range of Southeast Asian street food-style dishes with an upscale twist. The menu features Meyrick's signature flavors, including curries, soups, and noodles. The double-storey restaurant boasts finely appointed interiors and airy dining spaces in the heart of Ubud.
Dining at Hujan Locale was a truly wonderful experience! I ordered their steamed fish wrapped in banana leaves and bamboo, served with yellow rice and vegetables — and it was absolutely divine! Every element on the plate was full of flavor, beautifully balanced, and clearly crafted with care. The presentation was as impressive as the taste — a real treat for both the eyes and the palate 😋 The service was top-notch from start to finish. The staff were very attentive and helpful — they assisted me with choosing a dish and checked in throughout the meal to make sure everything was perfect. Their kindness and professionalism really stood out. If you’re in Ubud and looking for a special dinner experience with excellent food and thoughtful service, I highly recommend Hujan Locale. I’ll definitely be coming back!

What a great restaurant tucked away from the craziness of the high street in Ubud! High quality food and drinks, served with great attentiveness and friendliness of the staff. We sat at the bar which was great and the bartenders really looked after us 🍸 Don’t skip the lobster dumplings. Probably one of the best I ever had, really appreciated the generous ratio of lobster 🦞 The beef rendang was 🤌🏼 and I really enjoyed my grilled baby chicken. An explosion of flavour in all dishes, without being too spicy.

We had an outstanding experience at Hujan Locale. The local cuisine was exquisite, with fresh ingredients and every dish bursting with flavour, elevated by a touch of sophistication. It’s certainly not the cheapest restaurant in Ubud, but absolutely worth it. The staff were wonderfully welcoming and warm. The setting is charming, a typical local-style restaurant, yet with exceptional attention to detail and a beautifully maintained atmosphere. We tried the crispy chicken and pork batagor dumpling, the slow-cooked beef rendang, and the Acehnese chicken korma, all of which were utterly delicious. We wouldn’t hesitate to return!

I really wanted to like Hujan Locale, but honestly, it just didn’t live up to the hype. Or the price tag. For 330k, I was expecting something exceptional, something that justifies the upscale branding. Instead, what I got felt no different from what you’d find in a good local warung—except here, you’re paying triple for the same experience. The beef rendang, which should’ve been the highlight, was average at best. Flavor was fine, but not memorable. I’ve had rendang from tiny family-run spots that easily outshine this one in both taste and soul. Even the presentation lacked finesse. The ambiance was pleasant enough, but the service crossed into overbearing. The staff seemed to lose their minds over the fact that I had a bottle of energy drink with me—even though I wasn’t drinking it. The way they reacted was unnecessary and frankly insulting. For a restaurant that tries to present itself as refined, that kind of attitude felt petty and off-putting. Overall, Hujan Locale feels like a place coasting on reputation and aesthetics rather than substance. The food is decent, but if you actually care about flavor and value, you’ll find better—and more authentic—meals in the warungs down the street.

Hujan Locale is amazing. The venue is gorgeous and stepping in feels like you’re stepping into another era. The staff are professional and nice - delivering service with a smile. The food is fantastic - each meal providing a different range of flavours and textures. Each dish tastier than the next. Overall we have a GREAT experience and will return. It was on the pricier end of the spectrum but worth every cent - a nice treat!

We were recommended this place and it certainly did not disappoint! We came without a booking but were able to sit downstairs in the bar area and order all the food. The cocktails were great and the food was amazing. Some really interesting and unique flavours all round with too many dishes to recommend! Wish we had come another night to try some more.

We really enjoyed our time at Hujan. We chose the menu proposed and were absolutely not disappointed! Food was very tasty, some of classic Indonesian food but twisted in a very original way. Would definitely recommend it !

In our 2 stay last year and this year, this was the best restaurant we've found in Ubud and Bali in general. Welcoming staff. 🙏 Can be a bit pricey but not overpriced like other places where the food isn't good by the way. Here you'll have great food (at least if you try our recommandations).. 👍 Special mention for the beef rendang, the scallop (starter) and the dessert mango 🥭- coco 🥥 in granite style. Disappointed by the tuna (starter) though, which was lacking a bit of taste and some 'peps' . wish the tuna had come with a sauce similar to the one that came with the scallop... Also, people complaining in the comments are just people without any taste who enjoy Coca, Fries 🍟, and Burgers 🍔/ pizza 🍕 🤦

Nestled in the heart of Ubud, Pura Dalem Ubud is a captivating temple that offers visitors a glimpse into Bali's rich cultural heritage. While it may not be as renowned as some other attractions, its unique charm and significance make it worth exploring. The temple is known for its stunning architecture and vibrant Kecak dance performances, which showcase traditional Balinese storytelling through mesmerizing choreography. Although the entrance fee is modest, the experience you gain here is invaluable.
This was the first temple we saw after arriving in Ubut on the way from the hotel to the city center. Unfortunately, it was closed at that time. We came back here and it was worth it. There was almost no one else except us. Cool atmosphere. Interesting sculptures and architecture. It is worth taking a closer look at them. You will find here both angry lions and smiling figures.

Pura Dalem Ubud is a pretty interesting temple in Ubud, conveniently located on the main street with plenty of attractions and restaurants nearby, so you can grab a meal after visiting. The temple itself isn’t huge, but the architecture is really intricate, especially the statues and carvings, which are very Balinese and great for photos. The highlight is the evening Barong Dance performance. The storyline is a bit fantastical (with monkeys, monsters, and witches all making an appearance), which kids might find fascinating, and adults can soak in the cultural vibe. That said, if you’re not into religious or cultural stuff, it might feel a bit repetitive. Quick tip: You’ll need to wear a sarong to enter the temple, which you can rent at the entrance, and dress modestly. The best time to visit is in the evening—you can see the temple in daylight and catch the performance at night. Overall, Pura Dalem Ubud is a good spot for a quick visit, especially if you’re interested in Balinese culture. If you’re short on time, you could skip it, but if you want to dive deeper into local traditions, it’s worth checking out!

Pura Dalem Ubud is a unique temple in Bali known as a "death temple" because it celebrates the balance between good and evil. The Balinese believe that recognizing evil is essential to appreciating the good. You'll find statues of demons, including the fearsome demon queen Rangda, who loves to snack on babies (yikes!). Located in central Ubud, this temple offers a different perspective on spirituality and is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. Plus, they sometimes host traditional dance performances at night, so keep an eye out for those spooky spectacles!

Good temple to visit. Well worth the 50,000 ticket price. Have a coconut water across the road before/after to hydrate for just 25,000. Enjoyed it.

Rating the night show only here. A fire dance show is happening in this temple every Monday and Friday at 7:30pm. The ticket costs 100.000. Some people in the streets will ask you if you want to buy it from them instead of at the temple. Since it's the same price and they get a commission from it, that's how I bought my ticket.
Antoine L — Google review
We attended the fire dance it was for 100k IDR. It was worth it and we enjoyed the show. The seats are a bit not comfortable but it’s only one hour show so it’s fine. Make sure to arrive at least half an hour earlier for better seats

The temple is small and beautiful. We went one day during a theater performance, and I loved it. If you want to experience a bit of their culture and see their dances and traditions, you must stop by.

Monkey Forest in Ubud is a must-visit attraction with its enchanting forest, ancient temples, and majestic banyan trees that create an Indiana Jones-like ambiance. While some caution against the monkeys' thievery and aggression, many visitors have found the experience to be peaceful, with monkeys nonchalantly passing by. The entrance is impressive, and the staff are helpful in navigating the forest. It's a rare opportunity to witness wild animals freely roaming in their natural habitat.
The Monkey Forest in Ubud is exactly what the name promises, lots of monkeys in a temple and forest setting. It is basically a big park where you wander among old stone carvings, tall trees, and troops of macaques that clearly think they own the place. It is a nice spot for a walk, with shady paths and a bit of atmosphere from the temples scattered around. The monkeys themselves are the main attraction, playful, curious, sometimes cheeky enough to test your patience if you are carrying food or shiny things. Overall it is a pleasant experience, part nature, part cultural site, part wildlife encounter. If you do not mind a few monkeys getting a little too close for comfort, it is worth a visit.
Wade W — Google review
Wow! What an absolutely amazing day trip. The Monkey Forest is beautiful and I have never had a chance to see this many monkeys together in my entire life. If you follow the rules and don’t try to feed them or touch them, then they should not bother you. But again you need to remember that these are wild or semi wild monkeys, and they are not meant to be fed or meant to be touched they were meant to be looked at. The greenery in the forest is beautiful. The statues are amazing and it’s definitely worth the trip.
Jane F — Google review
We had a great time at Monkey Forest today. We went there around 3pm on Thursday and it was not that crowded. I read in some comments that the monkeys were aggressive and stealing things but to my surprise I found the monkeys very docile here. The park was clean and there was food everywhere for the monkeys. Maybe the park management has improved things, maybe the monkeys have been well-fed and as a result they've become less aggressive, but the key thing is respect I believe. If you don’t disturb them and don't cross lines, all is well. They are just taking care of each other and most of them don't even care about people wandering around. If they stand somewhere, just keep your distance, take photo from afar, and keep on walking without provoking them. This is that simple. That's always good to be mindful and careful but we haven't seen anything to stress about. Just enjoy your time with them.
Didem A — Google review
Visiting the Ubud Monkey Forest is an absolute must when in Bali. The setting is stunning, full of lush greenery, ancient temples, and peaceful forest paths that create a magical atmosphere. The monkeys roam freely, and it’s fascinating to watch them up close, especially the playful babies swinging from the trees. The site is well maintained, and the staff make sure both visitors and animals are safe and comfortable. That said, it’s important to follow the rules and avoid bringing food or shiny, loose items — the monkeys are very curious and might try to grab them. Still, the experience is totally worth it: a perfect mix of nature, culture, and fun. A must-visit spot in Ubud for animal lovers and anyone wanting to feel the true Balinese spirit.
SMVN — Google review
Enjoyable day out in Ubud at the monkey forest. The kids were apprehensive at first but as we journeyed through the sanctuary they realised the monkeys were not feral or rabid but rather calm and more uninterested in you than you think. If you respect the rules and remain calm if a monkey jumps on you, then you should have no worries exploring this unique forrest and enjoying the unusual environment where humans and monkey co exist.

Kecak Ramayana & Fire Dance by Sambahan is a traditional one-hour dance performance that narrates a story from the Indian epic "Ramayana." The performance tells the popular episode of Prince Rama, his wife Sita, and his brother Laksmana. To fully understand the narrative, it's recommended to reserve a seat in advance and obtain a program manual for translation. The show concludes with a mesmerizing five-minute fire-stepping ceremony reminiscent of Taiwan's peace prayers.
Amazing locally performed traditional kecak Dance about the Ramayana. The leaflet you get on entry will allow you to gain an understanding of the performance. So please read it or you will not enjoy it fully. This show is performed at 7.00pm on Thursday and Sunday. Fully recommend this to immerse yourself into the baliense traditional and gain a deeper insight into the values and understanding of Hindu Baliense people. Recommend booking your tickets online so you don't need to wait and get there 30 minutes before to ensure you get a great seat! The costumes, dance and facial expressions are amazing!
Jayna V — Google review
The little leaflet that you get with your ticket is actually quite informative because it allows you to follow the storyline. I thought the fire dance at the end was a little gimmicky but still interesting to watch. The unfortunate thing is it's not as scenic as seeing it at uluwatu temple as you can hear the sound of cars going by. However, if you're staying in the area, it's probably easier to get there and back. We ended up walking from our hotel. The show lasts about an hour
Mimi W — Google review
Very colourful and entertaining show, the costumes and performers are great to watch. The story is explained in the pamphlet, however it was just fun to watch along and see what character would pop out next 😅 The show started at 7.30pm (Thurs) and went for an hour. Tickets can be paid for at entry by card, but the machine was broken when we went so we had to quickly find a nearby ATM. There is a small stand in the venue selling drinks and snacks.
Marcus — Google review
Really enjoyed this experience. Very cultural. This was at the Ubud Palace. You can see their traditional dance every Thursday and Sunday. I paid equivalent of £4.50 which I thought was very reasonable. Must do if visiting Ubud.

A Balinese cultural extravaganza! Exceeded expectations. Colourful, immersive and impressive. The male choir’s voices resonate and the costume’s impressed.

Good show and culture experience. Tickets are genuinely sold around the Ubud palace. Includes a short taxi lift to the destination. Will need a private taxi back. The audience was full.

Got a ticket from a lady on the street, don't worry the resellers are legit :) Arrived 30 min early so we got pretty good seats (higher up facing the stairs). The performance is pretty neat, but it does help to read the summary that's on the ticket. Just remember that at the end, the monkey king triumphs ;) (not a spoiler!). It looks like men characters are played by women actors, for us it was little harder to follow at the beginning. The fire dance portion is about 5 minutes right at the end, so don't leave early if you want to see it! Overall for us it was something rather unique to see in Bali, and we'd recommend finding time to witness such a show (they happen almost every night, but it could be at other temples).

Nestled just 30 minutes north of Ubud, Ceking Rice Terrace is a breathtaking destination that showcases the stunning beauty of terraced rice paddies surrounded by lush greenery. This picturesque landscape is not only a feast for the eyes but also an excellent example of traditional Balinese farming practices, particularly the subak irrigation system, which has been in use since the eighth century.
The Tegallalang Rice Terrace was one of the most beautiful, green, and picturesque places we have visited while being in Bali. The wait to enter was very short and the entrance fee was also inexpensive. At the time of this post the cost was 50,000 Rupiah per person which allows you to take pictures in some of the installations and walk the space. If you would like to take pictures on some of the other swings and things you can pay to do so and rent a beautiful gown to take pictures in at the same time. In addition to this you can do zip lining and a bike ride across a tight rope. We arrived later in the day so we just entered and took it all in, had a quick bite, a couple beers, and took some nice pictures. I would definitely recommend checking it out. It’s even just a nice scenic walk to take and you can stop have a bite and walk some more then take more pictures and take advantage of the different activities.
Olevia M — Google review
The best time to visit is just before sunset, when the atmosphere is calm, traffic is lighter, and the area is pleasantly cool. The entrance fee is very affordable and already includes parking. Along the trail, several small local vendors offer refreshments — a simple yet meaningful way to support the community during your visit. What makes this destination truly special is its commitment to preserving the natural landscape while empowering the local residents. A serene and sustainable experience that reflects the authentic beauty of Bali.
Balidronelady — Google review
I visited the Tegallalang Rice Terrace in Bali and it’s every bit as beautiful as the photos suggest. The landscapes are stunning — layered rice fields stretching into the distance with lush greenery and palms swaying overhead. It’s a place where you can truly take in Bali’s natural beauty. This spot is great if you enjoy light hiking. There are paths and trails that let you wander through different levels of the terraces, giving you both peaceful walking moments and opportunities to admire the scenery from different perspectives. Just be prepared for a little climbing — some portions can be steep or uneven, but the views make it worth it. It’s also a fantastic photo location. Whether you’re capturing wide scenic shots or taking iconic Bali-style pictures among the terraces, it’s easy to find beautiful backdrops everywhere you turn. Overall, Tegallalang Rice Terrace is a must-visit for anyone who loves nature, views, and a little adventure. Scenic, peaceful, and perfect for photos and exploration — definitely worth the stop.
Latisha D — Google review
These terraces are located closest to Ubud and are by far the most popular with tourists. Admission is free, but you can pay a voluntary fee. They are beautifully maintained, with many spots and viewpoints for beautiful photos. It's worth sitting down at a nearby restaurant (there are many to choose from) for a drink or a meal and admiring the rice terraces from a different perspective. A phenomenal place. I won't say more. It's a must-see.

Absolutely stunning place! 🌾 The Tegallalang Rice Terraces are one of the most beautiful spots in Bali. You can walk along the narrow paths through the rice fields and enjoy the amazing view of the terraced hills. It’s peaceful, refreshing, and a great way to connect with nature. Perfect for travelers, families with kids, or even teens who want to learn about local farming and Balinese culture. Don’t forget to stop by one of the small cafés around for a coconut or coffee while enjoying the scenery. Highly recommend visiting early morning or before sunset for the best experience! 🌅✨

A must-visit experience when in Bali! The journey can be as short or as long as you like, with plenty of drink stalls along the way to keep you refreshed. There’s a small entry fee, and it’s a good idea to bring insect repellent. For those seeking a bit more adventure, you can enjoy the swing or zip line for an additional fee. Go early to avoid the heat. Overall, a fantastic place to visit and well worth the trip!

Wholly crapster what an eye opener. This was a magical environment and I mean magical. You'd never for a million years think that a rice terrace could be magical but this site is. My wifies had a custom dress made for the swing adventure which was truly beautiful. We were lucky enough to have a guide who walked us through the terrace and explained the details of the terrace and it's workings. Our guide showed us all levels and took us to an absolutely beautiful restaurant for lunch. Was a magnificent adventure and a morning I shall never forget. A must see, must swing, must do.

This ancient temple has an amazing architect. They built this massive place right on the edge of the creek (maybe river in the past) with heavy rocks/cement which managed to survive the weathering of time. I love how they have embraced nature and surrounding areas into this place. The lush green foliage surrounding the temple was quite breathtaking. The trees provided alot of shades if you arrive in the afternoon. Good place to relax and meditate.

Very nice museum with a lot of beautiful artwork, but probably because there are not many visitors it is very unkept, stuffy inside. The shields of old artwork is not readable as it’s old and the entrance level has just many artwork without any shields. i would still give the museum a 4 for the beautiful artwork if not for this one employee ( i think the one mentioned in other comments) who just followed me and waited until i leave - even tapped his fingers impatiently as i observed artworks. unacceptable… such a pity as i read in the guestbooks how much people loved this place since the 90s.

Very quiet and serene location off the beaten track. 100,000 rupiah per person. We came on a wednesday morning and were the only visitors. Quite a lot to see of varying genres and quality. The museum attendant was following us around which could be off putting for some. However, we enjoyed the experience of seeing some Balinese art and enjoyed the setting in which we saw it. We spent around an hour here. Nice cultural experience while in Ubud.

I’ll give it three stars because it’s an absolutely beautiful museum, a true hidden gem. Mesmerising views and garden. I was the only visitor there, which was a little sad, but I understand why. I was pestered by a worker and followed around for nearly an hour. I don’t know if he expected a tip, but I didn’t feel safe at all as a woman. I kindly asked him five times to let me explore the place on my own, really wanting some peace and quiet, but he wouldn’t stop following me, which gave me a lot of anxiety and I couldn’t view the artworks in peace, he was always about, burping occasionally and acting as a tour guide I never asked for. There was also an entire section filled with modern artworks for sale, and he led me through it, although I wasn’t interested in it. Tickets cost 50k.

Sacred & Religious Sites
Pura Samuan Tiga, also known as the 'Temple of the Meeting of the Three,' is located in Bedulu village near Ubud and is a significant religious landmark. This majestic temple features intricate sandstone carvings, grand gateways, and seven courtyards, representing the harmony between three Hindu sects. Surrounded by lush trees and rivers, it offers a tranquil atmosphere. Despite its grandeur, it remains relatively undiscovered by tourists.
I just picked up this place randomly in google map and decided to visit it on my last day in Bali. And when i was here, I talked to myself how lucky i was. Finally, i saw it. This gem was hidden away from hustle and bustle life. It is completely different with temples that i visitted in Bali for the past 5 days. I heard that this temple is one of the most important Hinduism temple for Balinese. When you come, the old man sitting at the donation box will give you a sarong to wear. There is no fee, but it would be nice if you can do donation to support local people maintain this temple. Luckily, goverment has still not run their business here. I loved to be here. This place give me a very clean and strong positive enery and a connection to the nature. I heard many couples with infertility come here to pray for a child, this is a sacred place.

Very nice temple, but the staff is not very friendly.... Could do a lot better. However, it is less busy than other temples if you want a purification!!

Fantastic to visit during big ceremonies. Thoroughly recommend this temple as a worthy visit for those staying in the Ubud / Gianyar area

Pura Samuan Tiga is a hidden gem nestled in the village of Bedulu, near Ubud. Despite its grandeur, this temple remains undiscovered by most tourists. You can freely enter, but be sure to wear a sarong—a traditional garment required for temple visits. We had the entire place to ourselves, allowing us to explore at our own pace. It’s undoubtedly one of the best temples we’ve visited. We even had the privilege of meeting a local priest who shared fascinating stories about this sacred site.

Gorgeous, large Hindu temple that is off the usual tourist track. Donations are welcome, without the usual fixed fee. Sarong is available at the entrance, and ladies please tie your hair.

Pura Samuan Tiga is where Balinese and others get their prayers for various life situations. Please treat this as an Important Temple for Bali Hindus and respect their sanctity. Please wear appropriate Balinese Traditional Clothes and enter, not as a tourist, but as someone praying for harmony. This is not for your Instagram or TikTok, but a sacred place.

Not only is it stunning, but it's on huge grounds and completely off the beaten path apparently. We were the only people there! All of the areas were accessible, nothing was closed off. We got the chance to really see all the beautiful details up close, it made for a contemplative session walking through the amazing mixture of natural scenery taking over the human made stone carvings.

This place is wonderful, peaceful and stunning. One of our favorite temples in Ubud, but please, be careful with the dog, it can be quite aggressive and follow you around anywhere you go. Do not panic, remain calm and he will leave (or be called by someone in the temple). There is no entry fee, but you will be asked to provide a donation at the end of your visit.

Nestled within the Agung Rai Museum of Art, Arma Museum & Resort is a luxurious accommodation located just a short drive from Ubud Monkey Forest. The resort offers stylish rooms, suites, and villas with picturesque views of the pool, rice fields, or river. Guests can enjoy two restaurants on-site as well as a spa for relaxation. The museum at Arma embodies the concept of harmony between humanity and nature by showcasing traditional art, culture, and architecture.
This is a landmark museum with beautiful gardens. Perfect to visit on a hot day in Bali. The big Stone buildings are cool and filled with amazing art from classic to contemporary. The gardens are also nice for strolling about and full of beautiful trees and flowers and statues and Koi ponds and fountains. Museum has a nice little café and a working artists in residence program. And strangely, a really great Thai restaurant in the parking lot. There is an adjacent hotel by the same name with extraordinary gardens as well and another restaurant. The revenue from the hotel supports Balinese culture. ARMA also has very authentic dance performances in a marvelous outdoor auditorium stage. You could easily spend an entire day touring the place and taking a break from all the traffic and mass tourism that Ubud has become.

Our expectations of Arma Resort were blown away during our entire stay. We stayed in the private pool villa next to the rice fields, which felt so romantic and one with nature. The infinite pool, pool island, and incredible bedroom with multiple living and relaxing rooms felt truly beautiful. Wandering around the resort was magical. There were unique orchards everywhere amongst various beautiful plants, and the included breakfast was delicious. Better still, the service from everyone there was truly warming and welcoming, and we wish we stayed longer! Thank you for an incredible holiday! Highly recommend!

Bali perfection. Extensive grounds with beautiful gardens, pools and statuary. Every view worth a photograph. We had a suite villa with a private pool - luxurious, superbly comfortable and perfect for relaxation after 3 weeks touring Java. Staff were all friendly, expert, attentive and helpful. The two dance performances in the Museum open stage were outstanding. A truly memorable place

Visited Arma for an evening show - the Ramayana Ballet. We didnt stay at this resort but it was beautiful! All staff friendly, gorgeous setting and amazing location in center of Ubud (but still separate enough it was quiet and relaxing) the dance was amazing, not too busy unlike some of the other shows in the area 😀

It doesn’t get any better than this! Perfectly serene and quiet oasis in busy Ubud! We stayed for 7 days and the staff was always polite and accommodating. Any request was responded to immediately and followed up soon after to be sure we were well cared for! Especially enjoyed wonderful massages from Jeru at Spa! She was amazing for relaxation and tension relief… very strong but not painful! Thank you Jeru!

Location is good as there are supermarket and other things close by. Rooms are spacious but varies from type to type, some rooms we were given did not have lift and it was in second floor!! But the view was good. We took 3 rooms and other two were different (I'm not sure if the type of room we got) and spacious and had different feel.

Very chic gallery of mostly younger up and coming Indonesian artists. I believe it is run as a collective by the artists exhibited. I mainly went there because they have some sculptures by Taman Pande Ketut, a painter and a sculptor. He does amazing sculptures with a miriad of small people. Each small figure is a detailed portrait. Amazing.

Bali Swing, located in Ubud on the Indonesian island of Bali, is a popular adventure outfit that offers various tours, rafting trips, and rope swings with stunning jungle views. Ubud itself is known for its picturesque setting among rice paddies and steep ravines and has become a hub for arts and culture tourism. The Bali Swing experience is highly recommended for visitors looking to capture breathtaking photos while soaring above the jungle, valley, rice terraces, and rivers.
We visited the Bali Swing with some friends during our holiday, and it was such a fun experience! The hill leading up was a little steep, but once you’re there the swings are absolutely fantastic and well worth it. Some of the girls hired dresses for photos, which added an extra touch and made the experience even more memorable. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the whole setup felt safe and well organised. We had a great time and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something unique and exciting to do while in Bali.
Thomas B — Google review
Great Views and Photos, But Staff Attitude Needs Work Visited Real Bali Swing in Ubud and overall, it’s a good place if you’re looking for some iconic photo moments with a lush, scenic backdrop of greenery and water. The location itself is beautiful and natural, with about 8–10 different swings designed for that perfect Instagram shot. However, it’s on the expensive side — 650K IDR per person for access to all swings and lunch, plus 200K per person if you want professional photography, and another 250K for dress rental (plus 50K for a floral crown). Also, do note they prefer cash over card, which can be a hassle if you’re not carrying enough. Some swings were genuinely fun and made for amazing photos, while others felt more like filler rides just there to increase the count. The major downside was the staff, especially the male crew members managing the swings. The reception ladies were friendly and helpful, but the swing assistants were rude, impatient, and lacking basic manners. Despite paying for photography, we had to call them multiple times just to get their attention for photos, and they acted like they were doing us a favor. Another thing I found unfair is that even if you want to use just one or two swings, you still have to pay the full 650K — no option for individual access. Toilets are also very limited and not well-maintained, which was disappointing for a place charging premium prices. Overall, worth a visit for the natural setting and memorable pictures, but the experience could be so much better if the staff were more courteous and the pricing model was a bit more flexible.
Rajendra G — Google review
Obviously very touristy but such a gorgeous place showcasing the beauty of Bali. Had so much fun taking photos even with just the general entry, which also came with the lunch buffet. It was just a nice bonus but you could even just sit there with some tea and soak in the views. I recommend going super early before it gets packed and if you're lucky you might get one of the local photographers to help you but make sure you tip them!!!
Souper S — Google review
It looks dreamy and adventurous in photos, but in reality, it’s more of a well-managed photo spot than an actual thrill ride. The queues can be long, and everything feels a bit commercialized, from the setup to the pricing. That said, once you’re up there swinging against the backdrop of Bali’s lush greenery, you can’t deny the view is breathtaking. The staff are friendly, they guide you well for safety and also help you get those perfect Insta-worthy shots. It might not live up to the overhype, but it’s definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience — one of those iconic memories and photo proofs that mark your visit to Bali 🇮🇩🌴📸✨

Aloha Ubud Swing is a must-visit destination in Bali for photography enthusiasts. It features beautifully adorned swings surrounded by lush plants and flowers, set against the picturesque backdrop of Tegallalang rice fields and Coffee Luwak Plantation. This unique experience offers plenty of opportunities to capture stunning pictures for your social media feeds and travel albums.
I had a truly wonderful experience yesterday at Aloha Swing! From the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us warmly and clearly explained all the available packages. The 5-swing package costs 400K IDR, dress rental is 250K, and the photographer service is 200K. At first, I didn’t think I’d need the photographer, since my husband was taking pictures with a professional camera – and honestly, the photos turned out great! But in the end, I still decided to get the official photos as well, and I’m so glad I did – they were absolutely stunning. The option to add the photo package later is such a smart idea! Even if you don’t book the photo package in advance, the photographer still takes photos of you and gives you posing tips to make sure you look your best – so you’re guaranteed to have amazing shots no matter what. They offer dresses with long sleeves and sleeveless ones in beautiful colors. They adjust the dress for you so that, even if it’s a bit big, it fits and looks perfect in the photos. We arrived around 9:30 AM and there was no crowd at all. We waited no more than 10 minutes. Everyone working there was incredibly kind, cheerful, and professional. I highly recommend visiting Aloha Swing – it’s an experience you won’t forget!

We had to stand in the line for so long to take the swing. Not worth it to be very honest. We went to U fun field and it was much better and no wait either. The staff was courteous but everything was mid. The view was nit that great either. The dresses available for rent were mid too. The dresses were all the same and not very clean. The changing areas weren’t that private either. They don’t let you try the dresses before you pay for them the rent for dresses was way too much too.
Myeda 9 — Google review
Flying high above the jungle, rice fields, and valleys on the famous Bali Swing was an unforgettable thrill They offer swing packages at different heights, private transfers, or even additional activities to make the day richer. You’ll also find dress rentals and professional photographers ready to capture that perfect “flying” shot — a memory you’ll treasure forever
Wayne S — Google review
I booked 400k package, for dress 250k and photography 200k. Photographers did a decent work. They instructed how to pose . Lovely. I loved the pictures. Queue management was good too. An Indian couple tried to jump off the queue in front of me, they were so rude. I was waiting in front of them in the queue, still they were so loud and always disrespectful.
Shamee K — Google review
Well I guess you know what to expect when going to a super touristy place, but all these little extra side charges are just unnecessary. 400k IDR for the entry fee if you use the swing. But if you think you can join to do the pictures for free you are wrong, extra 50k IDR for joining as photographer or use their service for another 200k IDR. Dressing up? Another 200k IDR. Thinking you can walk around in the garden after paying 400k IDR? You are wrong, each part costs extra. Also, you get rushed through it, don't do this, don't do that. If you want that picture be ready to spend and don't go if above mentioned bothers you! Btw, there is 1000 such slides in Bali!
Ueli H — Google review
The place was really crowded. We got some nice photos, but it wasn’t actually fun. It felt like it’s just made for taking pictures, not for enjoying the experience. Prices are shown in the photos. Also, they’re the ones who do the photography and charge you for it — they inform you about this beforehand. But honestly, without their photos, you don’t really get much benefit. You have to let them take your pictures and pay for it.
Ibrahim H — Google review
I recently visited Aloha Swing, and honestly, it felt very overhyped by influencers and definitely not worth it. The experience was disappointing and nowhere close to what you see online. One major issue is that they scam you by placing a large screen right in front of you after the shoot, displaying all your pictures and tempting you to buy them. I ended up getting only 10 pictures — and trust me, don’t even ask about the price, it still hurts! They offer dresses for rent, but here’s the catch — only their photographer knows the exact locations and angles to get good shots. You are not allowed to click your own photos or even have someone else take pictures for you, which makes you completely dependent on them and their expensive packages. Overall, it felt like a tourist trap designed to make you spend more rather than enjoy the experience. Would definitely not recommend unless you're prepared for a hefty bill and a lot of frustration. Here is the proof of scam....oops...I mean price tags....make your own decision..... Upon receiving the feedback from management thought of sharing the photos of me being at their location.....I hope management remembers their employee....ppl can chose wisely...I don't need explanation from management.
Swati S — Google review
Aloha Ubud Swing is definitely one of those overhyped Bali attractions. The place is super commercialized everything from the photography, dresses, and even each swing is priced separately. It feels more like an Instagram influencer’s playground than a cultural or nature-based experience. That said, the actual swinging experience was fun and thrilling, and the views are beautiful. It’s a bit costly overall, but if you're just looking for a unique and fun moment, it’s worth trying once. Tip: Just go for the basic experience and avoid spending too much on all the extras unless you're going there specifically for content creation.

Indonesian restaurant
Bebek Bengil, also known as the Dirty Duck Diner, is a renowned restaurant in Ubud, Bali. Nestled amidst picturesque rice paddies, this establishment has become an iconic culinary destination since its inception in 1990. The menu features a variety of Balinese specialties with a focus on duck dishes. One of their signature offerings is the crispy duck rubbed with a traditional blend of Balinese herbs and spices, which originated at Bebek Bengil in the 1990s.
Delicious duck, they have it down to the wire! Really great vibes overall - walk in the rice fields, music, charming elevated floor seatings (in addition to normal tables). And great chilli! A real institution clearly.
Emad N — Google review
We came here today for dinner at 5pm because of their famous duck dish Timbungan. The menu did show it as a today special. However, when I ordered it, a staff said they did not have it without explaining why. They should remove this item from the menu if they did not have it. Being disappointed, I had to ordered the crispy duck one since the staff told me it was a must try dish. Here is our rating for the food. 1/ Crispy duck: 4/5 The duck was well marinated, neither too salty nor too bland. However the frying process made some parts of the meat burnt and really crunchy dry. The other meat part was ok, moist but not much meat to enjoyed since the duck was rather skinny. The red sauce was ok, not too spicy for me. The green bean and bean sprout salad was also ok. The steam rice was dry. Personally, I think this dish was just so so. Plus, the presentation was not really appealing to me. 2/ The Nasi Goreng vegetarian was good. My friend enjoyed it. He said the fried rice had a nice flavor. 3/ The Nasi Goreng with duck meat was also ok. They mixed small shreded duck meat with the fried rice. My friend who is a Balinese said this dish to him was a 4/5. At the end of the meal, I ordered their also "must try" Black Russian pie. Once again, they did not have it. I think I have picked a wrong day to come here. The restaurant has a gorgeous rice field view. The garden was also beautiful with statues lotus ponds and lush green plants around. It was a very well kept venue. I would give 5/5 for the atmosphere. In addition, staff here were also very polite and attentive. I would give them also a 5/5. Overall, it was just a so so dinner. If you really want to try their Bebek Bungil Timbungan, call them (WhatsApp) first before coming. Otherwise, you will be disappointed like me.

According to my 12 year old son “it was worth the 20 minute walk.” Lovely ambiance and great food. Good value for money. We’ll be coming back next time we’re in Ubud.

Bebek Bengil is one of my favorite spots in Ubud! Every visit is a treat, especially for the incredible smoked duck – tender, rich, and packed with flavor. It’s perfectly cooked and beautifully presented every time. I also really love the sambal matah – it’s not overly spicy, but wonderfully fragrant and flavorful, the perfect complement to the duck. The setting is peaceful and uniquely Balinese, surrounded by lush greenery and rice fields. It’s the kind of place where you can truly relax and enjoy a slow, satisfying meal. The staff are always kind and attentive, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. If you’re looking to try an iconic Balinese dish in a beautiful setting, this is definitely the place to go. Highly recommended!

Everyone that want to taste local deck should try either the crispy deck or the sweet sauce one. Both are really good! And the ambience and view, unbeatable!
Liyana A — Google review
First meal back in Bali after two years, and unfortunately, it was a letdown. Despite the many glowing reviews, the experience didn’t live up to the hype. Their signature crispy duck—supposed to be a highlight—arrived cold and dry, lacking the tenderness and flavor I was expecting. The chicken satay was equally underwhelming, tasting no better than something you’d find at a generic buffet. Overall, the place felt like a tourist trap banking on its reputation rather than delivering genuine quality. Disappointing start to the trip, and we likely won’t be returning.

Visited this place on a raining day to remember the taste of Bali’s bebek . Service by the staff here was prompt and professional. The ladies worn beautiful purple uniform . The food was on the expensive side but I enjoyed my quiet time having lunch in their large garden . One area on improvement is that the staff could lift up the chairs instead of dragging them when cleaning the floor once the guests have left . My peaceful afternoon was interrupted by sounds of screeching wooden chairs dragged by staff .

Immerse yourself in the flavors of Bali with the Paon Bali Cooking Class, located in the quaint village of Laplapan, just north of Ubud. This authentic experience begins with a guided tour of the local market to select fresh ingredients before heading to a kitchen garden for an interactive cooking class. The knowledgeable instructors provide thorough explanations of each step and ingredient, ensuring that participants can easily follow along.
Amazing experience! Mrs. Puspa was a fantastic, funny, and knowledgeable teacher. We loved the market visit, hands-on cooking, and delicious food. Super clean kitchen, allergy-aware, and great value. Highly recommend!

Worth the price A little out of the way- but in her home which is lovely. Puspa runs the class, however she only does about 20-30 minutes of explaining and then leaves for her 2nd to teach you. This is fine but not what I paid for. I also opted for a morning class as I wanted to do the market but they moved me to the afternoon - a long with a few others. This seemed like they had 2 little groups am/pm so decided to combine us to make a group of 10 in the afternoon. Not the experience I wanted. In terms of the cooking, you do a little bit and combine with the other guests. Not what I was expecting. At the end it's a buffet, so don't expect loads of food. I imagine it used to be Puspa all the time and it was more individual but it seems like they're running a cost effective model rather than for the customer experience

I really enjoyed this experience. It was held in a beautiful Balinese home with very warm and kind people. The owner explained everything to us in a clear and friendly way, and the whole session felt very genuine and well-prepared. Everything was great. The only reason I didn’t give five stars is because I still want to try a few other cooking classes in Bali, so I cannot compare yet or say for sure if this one is the absolute best. But overall, it was a lovely and memorable experience.
Leila A — Google review
Really great experience and a nice hostess. We got to make several dishes and do most of the cooking ourselves. They had everything prepared and ready so you did not have to wash vegetables or other activity not relevant to learning to make the dish. Also came with free water and a small cookbook to make the dishes at home. Small note i would have loved to buy a full hardcover cookbook if it were available but unfortunately it is not. The kitchen was really clean and they were really attentive to alergies. Even though this would normally not be something I would enjoy doing the timing was great and we got plenty of time to enjoy our food after. Would 100% recommend going here. Especially since the price is really good considering it combines an activity with dinner.

On a nonstop rainy day in Bali, we were desperate to find some indoor activities and this cooking class turned out to be a wonderful surprise! We had no expectations going in, but the experience was fun, well-organized, and just the right length. We learned to cook some of the main Indonesian dishes, and the results were absolutely delicious. A great way to spend the day, rain or shine!

This cooking course was fantastic from start to finish. The tour of the market gave you a lot of different impressions and you were guided through the local fruits and vegetables, as well as the different spices for the traditional Balinese dishes. When we arrived at the location of the cooking class, we had a welcome drink with wonderful friendly people who let us into their home. The cooking class was a lot of fun, everyone was allowed to cook and everything was explained in detail. The food was absolutely amazing! We received a recipe book at the end. I really recommend this cooking course to everyone.

We definitely wanted to go here and we had already arranged with our Czech-speaking guide. The place is another tourist attraction, luckily we were there early and it wasn't that crowded. A nice place where you can meet wild macaques, but you have to follow certain rules to make the visit safe for both parties. We enjoyed it here and they continued with our next program...🍌🐒

Pura Dalem Agung is the large Hindu temple situated in the middle of the Monkey Forest Sanctuary. It is believed that the temple was originally built around 1350. It has played an important part of the spiritual lives of Balinese people around Ubud for many centuries and is today part of the home of over 1200 long-tailed masques that call the Monkey Forest Sanctuary home. While exploring the sanctuary grounds, you will walk past Pura Dalem Agung Temple. While it is closed for public visitation (open for prayer only), you can view through the closed gates and see the typical Balinese Hindu temple architecture within. The exterior of the temple is nice as well. It is fronted by lion and other statues. Make sure to see the interesting facade panel carvings, some depicting scenes of monkeys battling a dragon.

You can't go inside but the main tower of the temple is much nicer and in a better setting than most of such places in Bali
Mojmír R — Google review
Beautiful temple in the middle of the monkey forest. You can take it with you when you visit it and is therefore virtually "free"
Hagen R — Google review
Lovely walk with plenty of shade and many monkeys roaming around. You can stroll and appreciate the environment and architecture.
Andres P — Google review
The energy around this temple is soo huge, surrounded by the forest of Monkey Forest made it so magical.. I visited after Nyepi to pray with another Balinese.. You need to wear Sarung or Kebaya and bring your own offerings.. I like it so much
Jennifer S — Google review
Relaxing temple monkeys very touristy.
Richard R — Google review
Nice temple inside monkey forest. Not open for tourists to go inside. Local people who want to go to pray can go inside. But you can see from outside.

Villa
Nestled in the heart of Ubud, Betutu Bali Villas offer a central location just an 18-minute walk from Ubud Palace and the bustling main street. The property features an outdoor pool, evening entertainment, paid airport shuttle, and room service. For those looking to indulge in local cuisine, guests can savor the traditional Balinese dish called Betutu at nearby restaurants. The spacious rooms are complemented by inviting hospitality from the family living on the property.
Paradise!.. the staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms were beautiful clean and a good size. Gardens were very well maintained and the pool was bliss. Breakfast consisted of a set menu.. Eggs, toast, jaffles, seasonal fruit and a banana crepe. The Villas are down a laneway which are only for bikes but its a bout a 1min walk to main street. I would advise not leave things on the balcony unattended as during my stay there were a few monkeys and they are very curious!

An excellent place to stay. Our room was clean, comfortable and roomy. The facilities are also excellent and set in nice a garden. The staff are helpful, friendly and make your stay a pleasant one. We also took a private day tour with them, as well as a transfer to our next accomodation and had a wonderful time on each. Thanks Betutu Bali Villas for making our stay in Ubud a memorable one.
Adam C — Google review
The pool is great and the villas are on a quiet side street. However I would avoid this place until construction is completed. Noise is constant from 8am and they have been known to go until 6pm with an angle grinder. When booking they should be upfront about this and offer a discount. As others have said the rooms are sporadically cleaned and the toilet lids have to be closed to prevent smells. Breakfast is limited and doesn't change so if you have dietary challenges then you are left with maybe one choice or zero!
Joe D — Google review
Very nice and quiet villa, very complete facilities and breakfast is also complete and delicious. Highly recommended for travellers who want to stay in the Ubud area. The location is also in Ubud central.
Ratih I — Google review
The location of the villas is away from the busy street, however, they are having construction done so it's noisy from 8am until 5pm every day, even Sunday. If you want to relax by the pool, you'll need good headphones! Breakfast is simple but ok, nice tropical fruit, eggs, banana pancakes. There's only white bread and regular milk available. Rooms are decorated well and a good size, all with balconies. The shower had hot water. Bathrooms are tired and the toilets smell bad. Air con worked well.
Clare C — Google review
We chose this option on our arrival to Bali as it was very close to Monkey Forest which we visited the next morning. We could leave our luggage before checking in and after checking out. Most of the staff were friendly. The area and hotel were quiet. The room was a good size with plenty of space and a small fridge. The AC was on when we arrived so the room was at a good temperature. The breakfast is very basic, just a few choices and not balinese breakfast choice. The juice isn't fresh. They don't have the option to serve it in the room and the canteen has 4 tables. On our last day, we didn't manage to get a table to have breakfast although it was very early in the morning. The room was pretty clean and spacious, according to the description on the website, but it needed maintenance (the paint coming off, water leaking from the bathroom fan, tap of the sink loose...) and bedsheets had some stains. Be aware that cars cannot come until the entrance but from main street, it's 1 min walking distance.

Very nice place to stay in Ubud. They are under construction with a new building. So, next year I believe the place will have much more to offer. The kids had an amazing time at the swimmingpool

Neka Art Gallery is a hidden gem in the heart of Ubud, Bali. It offers a smaller yet diverse selection of valuable paintings compared to its larger counterpart, Neka Art Museum, and entry is free. Run by the same family as Neka Museum, it provides a peaceful atmosphere with ample seating and an impressive collection of artwork. Visitors can freely wander through the gallery and admire masterpieces from legendary painters while immersing themselves in Balinese art and culture.
Free artwork gallery which is pretty cool! Met a cool musician outside as well while overseeing the koi Fish, great place to converse with other travellers.

I would recommend everybody to do a cooking class in Bali. I joined the Saturday class for plant-based cooking. It was so much fun to do, informative, delicious food and the chefs created a great vibe!

I enjoyed every single minute of this cooking class. Very well organized, I learned about ingredients and cooking techniques made with local love and care. The team is very professional and kind. Thank you so much. 🙏

Short Review: We were very excited to do a cooking class, but ultimately their Thursday class with the market tour was extremely slow (actual cooking done in about an hour), staff barely spoke English, and the dishes we made were just ok. Also it felt expensive for what it was and we are surprised so many people left good reviews. Overview of class: We did the Thursday Market Tour + Cooking class. - meet at Casa luna restaurant 8am - walk to a pretty unappealing nearby market where during the walk they tell you markets are all closing! At the markets we crowded around a few stalls as vendors were trying to pack up to listen to an associate tell awkward jokes and explain ingredients pretty superficially (ingredients have all already been purchased for you) - walk back to casa lunas cooking school and take a 45 min to 1 hour break (felt like a huge waste of time) - around 10, the head chef starts explaining the ingredients to you again although at least this is in the kitchen with the ingredients Infront of you. Her English was also somewhat limited and she tended to ramble or tell stories about random things perhaps to fill the time(?) - About 10.15/10.30 cooking and prep finally starts! you cut up some ingredients (onion, garlic, peppers), grind them manually with a mortar and pestle, then watch the lead cook make them for you with an occasional volunteer doing some light stirring - around 11.45 lunch was served and you are free to eat then leave

I was a bit skeptical after seeing on arrival that the cooking school was owned and run by an Australian with no historical ties to Bali. I was gladly proven wrong in that notion. We did the market visit and class and enjoyed it thoroughly. Best meal we had in Ubud (including Aperitif and Syrco BASE). But it’s not a cooking class. It’s more of a demonstration. The market visit was conducted by a sweet, positive, hilarious local man who patiently and proudly took us through all things Bali in terms of ingredients and market (with time to shop). The class was run by an ubud native who has been with the school for 21 years and did a great job with her team. We all chopped, a couple of people stirred a bit, and one or two made quenelles to be fried. So don’t come if you are expecting technique or details on how to cook. You do get a good demonstration of specific dishes and flavour combinations. The end result was outstanding so it’s a good meal regardless and the hotel / space in which you work is truly lovely.

We were a group of 13 people in Friday class. There was no market visit but the class started with an introduction of local ingredients which are crucial for balinese cuisine. Our instructor Yuk De made an extra stand up show before cooking which gave us pleasent moment. Yuk De and her team was very friendly and helpful. Anyone can participate with a little cooking skills. We had a delicious lunch with the group and at least now we know how to prepare Nasi & Mi Goreng or how they are prepared. Thanks a lot.

Monday Focus on Fish Cooking Class. What I liked about the class was its central location in Ubud amidst a beautifully landscaped guesthouse compound. It’s pleasant to learn how to cook in such a charming environment. We had a small group (which was rare in recent history for them) and started out with hisbiscus tea and coffee. We had a very happy and enthusiastic instructor who was also keen to share stories about Balinese customs and herself. After they explained and demoed the ingredients we could all try our hand at chopping etc. My preferred dish turned out to be the Kangkong.

My boyfriend and I had a great time at the cooking class. The kitchen was set in a beautiful calming atmosphere, the food was all fresh and very delicious. So generous with food and drinks. But the highlight was the staff - Oleg, Made and Jero - they were so sweet and funny, and told us lots of useful information about the ingredients and cooking techniques used. The booklet you get to take home with information/recipes from the class is a very nice touch. Would definitely recommend Casa Luna, they're the BEST cooking school in Bali!
