This Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki place is well worth the wait! We went on a Saturday evening for dinner and queued for over 45 minutes. It is a very popular place for both locals and tourists. We tried two different types of okonomiyaki, one original with raw egg on top and one with prawns and cheese. Both were very delicious, our favourite okonomiyaki in town. You are provided with different okonomiyaki sauces, mayo and lemon type tabasco sauce too, so can customise your dish to your taste.The atmosphere is lively, and you can see your meal being made by the chefs. All of this for very reasonable prices too. I'd recommend and visit again if I have the chance.

Delicious okonomiyaki! We were able to see all process of making. The place seemed to be extremely popular both among tourist and local people. There are lots of different choices of okonomiyaki including vegetarian ones.

Worth the wait in line! The three of us ordered while in line so once we were seated, it wasn't long before our order began to be served to the hot griddle at our table. One Original, with Garlic and egg yolk (with soba noodles), one plain (with Udon noodles) and one Deluxe (with soba). All were sooo good! The Garlic was my favorite, (who makes garlic chips like this?!) but I wish I had ordered the Udon noodle with it. The Udon noodles adds more substance and bite. We tried all the sauces and used them liberally as we worked our way through the massive servings. Highly recommended!!

A great place to experience Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki with noodles—distinctly different from the Kansai version in a refreshing way. The shop is quite small, so there was a bit of a line and roughly a 20-minute wait, but it felt well worth it once we sat down. Plus, its location is convenient and close to several major Hiroshima attractions. I especially enjoyed both vegan and vegetarian options.

Queued for about an hour, but well worth the wait!! Such tasty okonomiyaki - lots of different flavours. We had 2 okonomiyaki and 2 large beers for about 5300 yen - £27. Very tasty and very full!

Nagataya was our first stop when we got to Hiroshima. For an early afternoon arrival, we waited for 45 minutes in the queue, and at least another 30 mins for our food. From the looks of the line when we left, we felt this was likely one of the “quieter” periods when we dined. The Okonimyaki Hiroshima style is a must try during your visit to Hiroshima, and the servings here are quite large (good for two). However, we don’t believe the long wait time is worth the hype.

When in Hiroshima, you have to try their okonomiyaki. We wait in line for more than an hour and honestly, I'm not sure if it was totally worth it. I did like the food, but the wait was really long while standing along the street. I do think that you have to try the dish, I'm just not sure if there is somewhere else where you can do it without the long wait. They do take your order outside so once you enter, they have something ready for you. All in all, I'm glad I tried it, won't make the line again.

Okonomimura is an incredible spot for anyone visiting Hiroshima. It’s a multi-floor building filled with small stalls, each serving their own version of Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, the famous layered pancake with noodles, cabbage, pork or seafood, and egg cooked right in front of you. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, and the chefs are friendly and happy to chat or explain what they’re cooking. You can sit around the hotplate, watch your meal being made, and enjoy the true local experience. Be prepared to wait in line during lunch and dinner times, it’s popular with both locals and tourists, but the line moves fairly quickly. Each stall runs separately, so payment methods can differ: most accept cash, and some also take cards. It’s easy to get to, just a short walk from Hatchobori Station. Whether it’s your first time trying okonomiyaki or you’re already a fan, Okonomimura is a fun and tasty experience you shouldn’t miss while in Hiroshima.

Okonomimura is a great spot for anyone wanting to try Hiroshima style okonomiyaki. It’s a 4 floor tall building filled with small stalls, all of them offering their own take on Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, with noodles, cabbage, pork or seafood, and egg, sometimes oysters cooked right in front of you, on the teppan/hot plate. You can see a brief explanation of the stalls in the building, what they offer and where their ingredients come from. As there are 4 floors and so many different stalls, we found this helpful. The atmosphere is bustling and we felt it was a welcoming and foreigner friendly place with English menus too. In most cases, you sit around the teppan, and you watch your meal being made by the chef, and enjoy the experience. Most stalls accept cash, and some also take cards. There might be a waiting time if you come during lunch or dinner time. It was a fun and tasty experience so we would definitely recommend a visit you while in Hiroshima.

Simply the best Okonomiyakis. It’s a food complex of multiple restaurants across 3 floors of nearly 20+ okonomiyakis. Full of locals, tourists and food influencers. We tried the cheese and squid okonomiyaki and it was a delight. Choose wherever you get a seat. You can’t be wrong! ;)

We were looking forward to trying okonomiyaki here, but our visit was a bit disappointing. We tried to share one between us but were told we each needed to order one, which is understandable, though it did make the meal feel a bit pricey. The food itself lacked flavour, and because our grill wasn’t on, it went cold quite quickly. For 2000 yen each, there wasn’t much filling compared to what we’ve had elsewhere. Okonomimura has a great atmosphere and lots of choice, but it can feel a little tourist-oriented. I’d recommend doing some research first to find which stalls have the best reputation, or explore some of the smaller places in the backstreets — they might offer a more authentic and better-value experience.

Loved okonomiyaki at stall on third floor. Take right off elevator for Syo Chan. English menu with many tourists like me so staff was very helpful. Liked the soba just a bit more than udon but both excellent. Great atmosphere made meal feel special. Must order one item each so no sharing.

Had a great diner experience here, but it is a bit confusing when you arrive. We were looking for just one restaurant, but the complex has many & am sure they are all good. However we went to the one with a local queue ( they know best), Okononmimura. Loved the build up to making the Okonomiyaki & ice cold beer! The flavours were excellent & a good portion size (very filling)

A great experience! We loved the food, full of flavour and made right in front of your eyes. The beers and highball were also great although quite strong. The staff were really friendly. We arrived at around 6pm and it was really busy, but we managed to get a space for all three of us right away.

I went for their gluten free okonomiyaki yesterday and it was DELICIOUS. They even had gluten free sauce and mayonnaise for me. My favorite part was the service: they fit us in before a reservation, made sure I knew which sauces I could have, and offered to take a photo of my boyfriend and I without asking. Cool vibe, excellent food, a must if you’re visiting Hiroshima.

Definitely eat here if you want outstanding local food in Hiroshima! This place is within walking distance of the Hilton Hiroshima and also has gluten free options which is quite rare for Japanese restaurants. Everything came out super fast and was quite tasty!

The food was amazing! And the whole atmosphere is a great experience! Highly recommending - it was one of our highlights in Japan :) They also have very easily marked vegetarian and gluten free options that can be individualized.

Outstanding okonomiyaki, so good I went back again. Tourists are made to feel welcome. With our smattering of Japanese combined with the staffs English, it was a great place to eat. Also has options for no meat.

Cozy, friendly, and delicious. The scribbles on the walls give it a casual, rock n’ roll atmosphere. Nice cold beer and food overflowing with umami. Get here when it opens because a waiting starts to form not long after opening.

4.5 Amazing and friendly staffs. Customers are super friendly too, remind me of Osaka's Itzakaya style. Ordered seafood with soba and oyster. The food was skillfully cooked and the draft beer was super amazing! A very satisfying meal. Next time will order udon instead.

Best best best place for okonomiyaki old school style. And they have gluten free option which they are careful of cross contamination and specific sauce that's gluten free. I just feel so much at home here watching the people cook okonomiyaki. I could watch them cook all day. The price is also affordable and they have done well balancing inflation and still making it affordable for locals. They have tables and also the bar for solos. It's such a chill place and coming in while it's cold outside, eating filling meal for 800 yen - tastes great and amazing. Can't ever go wrong here. They do get a lot of customers (locals, tourists and so on...) so just coming in before the rush hour is the best way to go (about 30 minutes - 1hr after they've opened). During rush hour for groups more than 3 might be bit rough so I recommend to expect some wait time. Can't wait to come back next time.

Visited Anagomeshi Ueno on a quiet Tuesday around 4 pm. It wasn't busy, so I was seated right away. I ordered the medium-sized set meal, which came with pickles and miso soup. The food came out quickly and was nicely presented. Overall, the taste was quite delicious, though I found the anago a bit dry, which kept me from giving it a full 5 stars. Still, it was a satisfying experience and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good anago meal.

A great place to try another Hiroshima favorite, conger eel. However, this place is very popular, so be prepared to wait at least 30min. If you want to avoid the line, you can always skip it if you get take-out. Crowd Size: Very High (35min wait) Payment Method: Credit Card

First time try conger eel. It really surprised me a lot. The charcoal flavor is perfect and the savory taste is awesome. Not very sweet. I am a savory lover and this dish is really really perfect salty with unknown sauce. And the fishy smell is zero!

My first visit was in February 2020, pre-Covid. This time in November 2022 where Japan is still practising social distancing. There are acrylic partitions at the tables for the purpose. Anago in comparison to unagi is less fatty and perhaps our preference in leaning towards a unagi Don. We ordered a large bowl to share, the Anago is pretty charred and lean. I would have preferred more seasoning in the rice. This store is really famous and popular, there is a queue which you may not see outside the shop as once you register your name , you will wait next door . This is a must to try when in Anago town 🫰🏻

Best anago restaurant. Be sure to go to this restaurant if you visit Miyajima. It’s very famous, so you may queue for many minutes before enter (especially during weekend).

As with most Japanese restaurants of high standards there are multiple elements of the dish which I found to be well thought out and provided a special touch. In this case it was the don prepared with fish broth which gave it the yellow-ish colour. It has a tinge of charred flavour which makes this a pretty unique don in my experience. The availability of the sanshou (a green pepper powder) which provides for a numbing sensation though not exactly spicy gave an additional flavouring option to the baked eel. That said, 2,500 yen for the small portion could hardly be justified. The dish feels dry and pictures of the conga eel rice on the menu on Internet suggests that the eel itself should be prepared to have slightly wet texture. The quantity of eel meat was equally lacklustre as well. When we explored the area the other stores are selling the same dish for around 1750 yen. At the end of it, its size and texture leaves much more to be desired and increased my curiosity to how good can a conga eel rice be. A hundred years of history for Anagomeshi Ueno could be a good reason to visit the restaurant, but expect its long heritage to be part of the price as other restaurants would offer lower prices at similar or better flavours.

The oyster set is quite a good deal, but I recommend going for the 2,600 yen option. The only difference between that and the 3,100 yen set is the size of the grilled oysters, which isn’t very significant. The set lets you enjoy oysters prepared in different ways. The grilled oysters allow you to taste the freshest, pure oyster flavor, while the fried oysters paired with the restaurant’s tartar sauce are absolutely delicious. The oyster rice is flavorful, with the rice soaking up all the oyster broth. Even the miso soup contains oysters, showing real thoughtfulness. The restaurant has a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere, making it a very safe and worthwhile choice.

While exploring Hiroshima, I had the chance to try their famous oysters. Priced at ¥650 for two, the grilled oysters I ordered were a simple yet satisfying indulgence. Unfortunately, due to the summer season, raw oysters weren’t available. Instead, I was served freshly grilled oysters with a smoky aroma and a juicy, briny flavor that captured the essence of the sea. The texture was tender and plump and the natural richness of the oyster was beautifully preserved without being overpowered by seasoning.

This place has Michelin star for its famous oyster set dish. Wasn’t even aware when I came in here just wanted to sit down and have some oyster. But it was delicious! I got the 4 piece set and it was everything I wanted. I wanted to try the set but it looked like too much oyster for me. But when you’re here you should try the Hiroshima oyster.

When everything was closed and this was the only place open, I did not know that I walked into a Michelin starred joint known for their oysters. It was seriously divine and so were the drinks. My only regret is missing out on the premium Kakiya set and if I get a chance to come back, I’ll be back for sure! Just get the Kakiya set people, you cannot fault it and you get everything you can dream of and then some!

The oyster rice is out of this world, especially the rice itself. I’m Asian but I never eat rice - yet I couldn’t help myself and had to order another bowl ! Look how lustrous the rice is in the video ! Definitely the best dish I had out of the two week trip in Japan (and I had countless of other delicious things). The place is located on the main tourist street of the island, so I guess I shouldn’t complain that it seems a bit touristy. The oysters were amazing though. I totally recommend the barbacued ones. They come in pairs so it’s a good opportunity to try the famous Hiroshima oysters.

Very busy, but amazing service and seated promptly. We all chose the premium oyster set, and we all thought it was amazing. The oysters were cooked to perfection and every style was most scrumptious. Only really have oysters on menu, so must love them to go here. Big oysters and extremely tasty. Service was great despite the crazy crowds on Miyajima. Very highly recommended. Pic already has an oyster eaten, and doesn't include the 2 large grilled oysters we got beforehand.

This spot is incredible if you’re looking for a local Okonomiyaki spot! Sit at the bar to get the experience of the chefs grilling everyone’s dinner, while providing you the opportunity to eat directly off the grill. 10/10 spot in Hiroshima Station. It doesn’t get better than this!

Long waiting lines to seat, however the service was good and quick. They took our order while standing in line to save time and was quick to serve at the table. Known for Okonomiyaki (savoury pancake), they had good range and was decent to taste. It was a little too difficult to reach the restaurant using Google maps. Is inside and not facing the street. There wasn't any option for vegetarians. The seating was congested and crowded ambience.

Very highly rated and one of the best Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki, We have had on our trip! We went here for a late lunch around 3 pm, and their was still a small queue. The restaurant host was very helpful in taking our order before we were seated. We had an over the counter view and were treated to the chef preparing our dishes live in front of us. The food was excellent and quite economical. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is visiting Hirsohima and wants to treat themselves to a delicious serve of Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki!

Very busy okonomiyaki store at Hiroshima Station. We bee-lined it to the store as the centre opened and within minutes not only was the store full, but there was a line waiting to enter. Didn't have to wait long to find out why! Staff flew into action preparing okonomiyakis for the orders that came flying in. So many varieties to choose from, I elected for the special. Our cook effortlessly prepared our respective okonomiyakis in front of us, then pushed them to the edge of the griddle as is customary (you can instead elect for it to be pre-cut and served on a plate). Tasty, fresh and filling, the perfect precursor to a Shinkansen ride to your next destination. If you can go for the counter view to see the show! English menu is available.

Nice on tap beers and a homely atmosphere. The grilled oysters did not look like much, but they were delicious and I could have eaten another serve by myself. I preferred the plain okonomiyaki, but the signature okonomiyaki was good too (they are generous serves), it was nice having the green onion on top - it was very refreshing.

We came at abt 11am on a weekday and queued fro about 40mins. The okonomiyaki with oysters were great. Its a little bit hot if you sit on the counter in front of the frying table. Takeout options available but it would not br as nice when you eat it while its piping hot.

What a great Okonomiyaki place. Absolutely excellent 👌👍 choice for Okonomiyaki. It is located inside Hiroshima Station on the first floor a bit tucked away in the food court. There was a wait line before entering. Can be anything from 0 min to and 1 hour wait time 😞 While you wait the will probably give you a menu and ask for our order. I not only recommend the Okonomiyaki but also the 🦪 oysters they were great with the Okonomiyaki. Overall you get ver nice food for a very good price, the drinks were also good 👍

Parco Della Pace was a great surprise! I went out for dinner tonight hoping to find some delicious food and I wasn’t disappointed with this place! The length of wait almost made me change my mind because I was so hungry, but I am happy to say that this place was definitely worth the wait!😋🔥🔥🔥. We’re so lucky to have gotten the chance to eat here! We had to wait a while to be seated since we were a big group, but it was so worth it! The food was delicious, and the service was outstanding. Highly recommended!

The pizza was absolutely incredible – real Italian flavor just like in Italy. The dough, the sauce, the cheese – everything was perfectly balanced and full of authentic taste. Having lived in Italy for a while and traveled a lot, I can honestly say this pizza could easily compete with the best ones there. Truly outstanding and highly recommended!

Delicious authentic pizzas made by a lovely couple who were very welcoming and attentive. Loved how they took an interest in where all their diners are from and got us to sign their travel map book. Also handed out handy little cards with Japanese phrases to help when tourists are in restaurants. Delicious food, and very close to the Peace Park so definitely worth trying if you’re in Hiroshima.

Such a cute couple who runs this place. Such good service and they give you a little English to Japanese card to help you with terms. The Pizza is wood fired and crispy with fresh tasting ingredients. Was missing pizza from home and this hit the spot.

Absolutely lovely joint near our hotel ! There were four vegan pizzas and we shared two between the three of us and they were delicious ! They are cooked in a beautiful wood fire facing the river in a lovely vibe restaurant ! The couple were so so sweet and had a lovely chat! I would love to go there again some day! The lady can speak English efficiently to understand orders !

Here you can try oysters cooked in many different ways. I've never had oysters that tasted so clean and fresh. The texture was juicy and tender, not chewy or sandy/gritty at all. My favourites were the grilled, tempura and smoked oysters, especially the slight spice in the smoked oysters. The fried and raw oysters were also really good. Only the boiled oysters with rice were not so good.

Oysters in ways you haven’t imagined. Grilled, tempura style, raw all local and delicious. This place was recommended as the best in Hiroshima/ the island and it certainly met the test. Combine with local Miyajima Pale Ale which was great makes for a fantastic meal after hiking Mount Maysen. The oysters are about twice the size of French/English varieties

I was fully satisfied with my meal at this restaurant. When I visited Miyajima, it was so crowded with tourists. So it was quite difficult to find out the right place to have lunch. By chance, I encountered this restaurant. Without a hesitant move, I came into this restaurant. It was more spacious than my thought. All dishes were delicious and well-balanced. it was not salty or sweety. Especially, I really enjoyed the taste of grilled oyster. It was highly recommended to the people who have a plan to visit here. So please have a look here and get some oysters if you want. That must be the right decision. I bet! Good place to try Hiroshima Oysters, the raw oysters were really good, preferred over the grilled oysters. Grilled oysters were ok and sticky. The Oyster udon were nice with boiled oysters. Service is good and English speaking staff. They have iPad you can use to order. The grilled oysters you’ll have to ask staff to order.

The oysters are scrummy, cheap compared to Australia. Many varied types of food. Shrines galore. Ignore the amount of people and stay for two full days.

One of many restaurants on the shopping street; we picked one that didn't have a wait and were happy to find a multilingual tablet for ordering. I was already planning to spend a bit since eel is a local specialty and eel is expensive everywhere, but even dishes like karaage and katsu curry are subject to tourist zone markup, though not by a lot. The food tasted great and the portions were good, so I can't complain too much.

Simply amazing! The raw one is creamy and pleasing, best one I've had in Hiroshima! Should order as many as possible. I love how the dish decorate and the sauces. The grilled oyster is huge and satisfying! This shop does things righy and care food and customers. Refined and great price. Will visit again.

Food was great, particularly recommend the vegetable curry and the paneer naan bread. The naan bread was soft and delicious, definitely worth coming back for.

Nice delicious Indian meal close to Schinkansen station in Hiroshima. Wait time was there but handled well. Food was good and authentic.

Coming to this restaurant was my attempt at trying a new cuisine and I had a fantastic experience. I visited this restaurant 3 times back in the beginning of April. The food here is authentic and well seasoned. The staff provides excellent customer service and the prices are reasonable. I was able to try new foods here and I liked just about everything. If I am ever in Hiroshima again, I will happily revisit. Thank you for giving me a lovely experience at your restaurant and giving me a positive introduction to Indian food!

Close to our hotel, and needed an Indian fix. And did it hit the spot. Great service (English) Great food. Had salad, tikka pork, seafood masala, chicken coconut cashew and rice. All of it was amazing.

Restaurant is conveniently located nearby the Hiroshima museum. You need to put yourself on the waiting list, it was not a long wait for us, around 15 minutes. Staff was polite. Food was fine, but nothing special. You have nice water views from the restaurant. Prices were average for this area.

Touristy little cafes for the tourists from out of Asia 🌏 a small piece of home with sausage paninis and brick oven pizzas...but why eat this when you have so much great food in Hiroshima unless you are peckish while waiting for the ferry?

We had a quick lunch from this joint just before hopping on to the miyajima ferry. The staff was very attentive and helpful. Our order was serverd at super fast speed as we had only 40 mins for ferry departure. Setting of the restaurant is beautiful. We got a seat overlooking the waters. Pizza was not bad. The crust wad not as bubbly and cruncy as i had expected. But still taste was good. Late Coffee was super good too.

Thought this might be a touristy place but the food was excellent and the views over the river are fantastic. We have several kinds of pasta, a caprese salad, 2 mini pizzas, grilled large local oysters, local lemon smashes (drinks) and Aperol spritzes. There should be more sardines in the pasta - the was only a tiny amount. Our waitress didn’t see very interested but the other waiters and waitresses seemed very professional and welcoming. Definitely a good place - and a welcome oasis after the unsettling exhibits.

Located near the museum and in front of the start point for the ferry to Myajima, this Italian restaurant proposed some good pasta, pizza and others dishes. The pasta was well cooked, very tasty, I recommend the oyster one which is a speciality of Hiroshima. The staff was really friendly, speak english if needed, the menu is translated too. The atmosphere is good, there's also the possibility to eat outside. Take out is possible too.

Had a great meal here. You sign up to add your name to the list. We didn't have to wait long. We had pasta dishes that were delicious. There's a button to press on your table when you are ready to order. Would definitely come back here. Helpful friendly staff and the menu is in English too!

A perfect Italian Japanese fusion restaurant in Hiroshima. It blends the famous Hiroshima oysters into unique Italian dishes and presents them beautifully. The taste profile is complex and so delicious. We came for a full oyster course and we were not disappointed. Everything was perfect and the ambience left a deep memory of Hiroshima.

Not worth waiting for. We came at 5:15pm and had to wait around an hour to get in, and the food was average. We tried another Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki that’s more local to have a comparison point, and enjoyed that place much better for half the price. The noodles at Mitchan was not crispy enough for our liking. We were a party of 2 and had to share a table with other people which was kind of awkward. The pluses were that they did include a healthy amount of seafood, big portions, and the flour used was mochi-like which was interesting. Grilled oyster was good, only available in the Japanese menu but you can still order it.

I am not an expert in KONOMIYAKI, they tasted excellent to me. The vegetable dishes were also good. Relaxed to have a meal here.

Authentic Hiroshima Okonomiyaki with great taste. There were already big queues when we arrived just before opening at 5:25pm. However everyone was soon seated with a minimum of fuss. I ordered the special and was very pleased with the combination of nikku, ika and ebi. The soba noodles were delicious and I also loved the home made okonomiyaki sauce.

Hiroshima is well known for its Okonomiyaki and for good reason!! We loved it!! Tried to go for lunch but had to wait an hour for a table so we decided to go for dinner instead. Took a number and only waited about 10 minutes. We knew what we wanted so we ordered as soon as we sat down and food came in about 10 minutes. It was tasty and hit all the right spots!!

This restaurant is a hiroshimayaki specialty shop and there are tons here in the city of Hiroshima obviously. Chose this one because it has many reviews on google and it opens late unlike others. Arrived around 7 and there’s lineup. You can tell the shop is very used to serving tourists and has English menu readily available and put down order while you wait in the line, which is good. Their Okonomiyaki has udon and normal noodle options. They also has oyster version which is what this city is famous for. Ordered a shrimp pancake and an oyster version. Both tastes very good. Just down to earth kind of food. The sauce might be very sweet to some, just so you know. Strongly recommend if you have difficulty choosing one hiroshimayaki place.

Mitchan Sohonten Hatchobori is an okonomiyaki restaurant founded by Ise Mitsuo. Mitsuo was the founding father of the original okonomiyaki, the soul food of Hiroshima. Mitsuo established both the original look of today’s okonomiyaki as well as the styles of how it should be eaten. Methods include eating it with a spatula, and the option of pouring sauce on top of the okonomiyaki. The now-famous restaurant has a chain of stores all over the country. The Hatchobori main store is one of the most popular among the many Mitchan stores. In addition to okonomiyaki, it offers a wide variety of dishes that go well with beer and shochu.

Are you a cool kid or do you wanna be one? It doesn't matter this place is awesome and you'll be a cool kid if you come here. Cajun wings, Egg burger, double cheeseburger, everything is fantastic! Just drink all the beer and have a great tim. The environment is awesome, it smells great. You'll smell the smoker from blocks away. Follow your nose! Seriously, best burger in Japan! A real burger. Not a meatloaf patty.

Wow! If you’re looking for American-style BBQ restaurant with at great atmosphere while visiting Hiroshima, look no further. We were blown away as they nailed the ribs, shredded beef sandwich onion rings, and garlic fries. On top of it all, the live band played fabulous Western blues/rock covers. Loved it! So I found a Gaijin bar located on the street between my job and my apartment so I decided to drop by. I had originally wanted to stay and eat but stead I grabbed a Chicago pie to go. But that aside, let me start off by describing this place as a dive bar full of westerners. It’s nice to see a place where I can find I need to be around other English speakers. Looks like they have a location in Iwakuni and on the Iwakuni base as well. The decor was typical of an old school American roadhouse complete with a portable, sports TVs and a stage on the corner for live music. I have to gather most folks here are tourist, but there probably a few of us living here as well. The pie ran me ¥2100 with an additional extra ¥150 to go charge. I suppose it’s not a true Chicago deep dish as it cooked on only 20 minutes, but I was fine with that. I was a bit disappointed because I ordered a smoked chicken and I got the smoked sausage, but I didn’t know that till I got home. As it general rule of thumb, I don’t particularly care for sausage. Looking at the receipt it was entered as sausage and I just didn’t catch it because my Japanese isn’t that good. That little hiccup aside, I’m still planning on coming back and trying some more food especially the burgers and some beers. Plus the owner is like really super chill so, I’ll be back. Plus, I really wanna try a good burger and hear some live music and such and the owner knows the cat café owner that i know.

Went on a Thursday night, so no wait for the pool table — which was awesome. The buffalo wings, onion rings, and fries were all really good. Highly recommend!

I removed my previous review and rewrite it more calmly. I used to visit this place regularly and I liked the food and the vibe. However, about one month ago, around 8pm at an open mic, I had an uncomfortable service experience. I sat alone at a 4-top near the stage because the counter was full. A male staff asked me “you are a performer, right?” and moved me to a 3-top where two people were already sitting and one seat was occupied with a bag. There were still other seats available in the back, so I asked if I could sit elsewhere. He said tables near the stage were only for 3+ people. Later he insisted that we “talk outside” and became emotional. He also grabbed my shoulder, and I told him to stop. Eventually he asked “if it gets crowded, could you share a table?”—which is something I always do anyway. In my view, the staff’s communication and customer management need improvement. If they simply explained the seating policy calmly, there would be no problem. After I shared my personal feelings in a previous review, the owner told me not to come any more. Today the owner told me “I need more time”. It has already been one month. To be fair, I think they comped one beer that night. I truly hope the service becomes more consistent and professional, because the drinks and the atmosphere are actually good.

One of few places that were open later during the offseason in miyajima. We were able to enjoy several great oyster dishes paying homage to the local seafood. Drinks were on point and the attentive service made this dining experience very enjoyable.

After a very unsatisfactory meal at Kakiya, I had to cross over to opposite side to Mametanuki for some revenge eating. Luckily, the anago, kaki set did not disappoint me. Anago is highly recommended. I like the soup packed with clams too. Good option also to escape the crowd a bit.

Even though this is on many tourist lists and is popular, I would avoid, even and especially during dinner when there are few choices. The service was horrible and the staff was not competent and borderline rude. The wait was absurdly long which came as a surprise once we sat realized the food is pre-cooked? My dish was cold and lacked flavor, not worth the price at all.

I searched for lunch on Google maps and found one restaurant I was interested in, but it closed that day. I searched for a new restaurant, which is this restaurant. I waited in the queue for 25 minutes, but it was okay for me because I walked along the street and bought some snacks during waiting. The oyster rice set was really good. The oyster was juicy, fresh, and sweet, topped on rice with some sauce which made this dish perfect. The fried oyster set was also delicious. I recommend this restaurant if you want to eat oyster rice with a good atmosphere.

This place was very delicious. We waited about 40 mins but their waiting system is very orderly. You register on a tablet and get a number. The tablet shows the last number that was called (in case you don't know japanese). The fried oysters were delicious and hot (don't eat too hastily). And the anago meshi was really good. Very flavorful and tender meat. I also really enjoyed the pickles they had on the side.

Had two evening meals here. It was very good. Ramen, gyozo, roast beef on rice ribs,and yakatori chicken. Beers sake tasters and plum wine tasters. And everything was delicious. So nice we returned for 2nd night.

We had a lunch here, which was a set consisting of anago on rice, fried oysters and Hiroshima beef accompanied by pickles and miso soup. It was a good meal, all dishes were good, worth the price paid. All set meals are served with ice green tea. They also have an option of a bento box takeaway.

This was an exciting traditional Japanese “Sanzoku” (The Mountain Pirates) style spot. The decoration was very fancy, with many Samurai statues. Expectations could be too hight, the food was just okay. Not fresh. Their food was just okay, but you can enjoy their style. The BBQ-style grilled beef was delicious, and the Japanese prime wagyu beef was soft and flavorful.👌

The name of this place means the ‘Mountain Bandits’. Friendly to vegetarian. The yaki tofu is delicious. There are 2-3 differences restaurants in the area. And plenty of outdoor dining are.

This atmosphere at this unique restaurant is definitely a 10/10! The music, the seating, the vibe, the food… it’s awesome 👏🏼 To my surprise, there were many different types of seating at the place so we decided to sit outside by the waterfall. Since the sun was going down, the lanterns were lit and it made it that much more beautiful. Food is a little expensive but we tried their famous wings and I also went in May so I was able to see the koinobori decorations too. If you get an opportunity, don’t sit in it and just go!!

Food and service maybe 3.5 stars. Ambiance, 6 stars!!! The chicken on a stick was very soft. It's best eaten with rice. The humongous rice ball has 3 fillings: simmered konbu kelp, pickled plum, and salmon. It can easily feed two or 3 people. I'd say it's 3 bowls of rice, easily. The takamori beef was unique, apparently the cows are fed sake lees. I would recommend that you don't undercook it as it's a bit too chewy so, cook it well. I didn't like the dipping sauce. A little sweet sauce not unlike noodle dipping sauce. I'd have just preferred some salt to enjoy the natural sweetness of the meat. The place is like a mini village, equipped with a shrine where you can get a lucky fortune paper and even play ring toss, next to it. Theme park slash BBQ venue slash outdoor Izakaya. It is a bit touristy but most people come for the ambiance. The price isn't high for a tourist spot. It's neither cheap nor expensive. There are plenty of local souvenirs sold around the entrance area. The line is very long. There's more than one line, for different parts if the place so it's possible to wait for less time. Most people just line up at the main line, for maybe an hour or so? The place is known to foreign locals as "Chicken Shack."

Visit the place to try the famous grilled chicken. The food is ok, chicken source is a bit sweet. Atmosphere is nice. The queue is long and we need to wait for 1 hour at weekend.

Seriously just as good as I remembered from back in 2007. This place is a must! The food is amazing the experience is like no other we have experienced. The place offers great places to relax and capture memories and reflect on things. Make sure you bring cash, there is ice cream machine out side if you need a sweet after. There is parking across the street and there is a few shrines here too. The Americans named it Chicken shack because of how good the chicken is.

Actual start hours: 10:30 am ~ And 4:30 pm ~ Modern with tablets and fast seating system. Delicious.

Excellent soba that’s fresh and delicious. Ordered the one that came in five small portions, each served different condiments and ingredients. Highly recommended!

The best soba noodles I have had in the past decade or so. This is "Wariko Soba" (a set of three plates), consisting of boiled "sansai" (edible wild plants collected in mountains", "tororo" (grated yum) and tempura bits. You can order more plates later if you still feel hungry.

Date visited: 2022/04/29 Izumo is known for Izumo soba so I wanted to eat some before leaving the city. There are A LOT of soba shops in Izumo, so I just chose one -- I didn't have any recommendations to go off of. I chose this place based on the ratings/reviews. It was very crowded when I went, around 1pm on a holiday (bank holiday -- no work/school). I waited quite a long time to be seated, but the sign-in system was efficient. They use a tablet sign-in system instead of a paper system. Just name, how many people, table or counter, that kind of thing. There is an upstairs seating area and downstairs. I was seated downstairs at the counter. I had the buckwheat noodle set meal. Came with tempura. I'm not very experienced when it comes to soba, so I don't think it was anything particularly special. But I believe that's because I don't know soba well. The tempura was delicious though!! Highly recommend. If there's a set for tempura, I'd go for that for sure.

If I could give them 100 stars I would!!! This place is out of this world. Everything from the moment you walk in the door is authentic, a truly quaint experience. As people who have eaten all over the world at Michelin restaurants, Guttsuri-An is definitely up there with the best of the business. Their food is phenomenal, the produce is as fresh as fresh could be and their staff are all beautiful. We let the staff choose what we ate, and we were not disappointed! We will be sure to visit Hiroshima again just to come back ! Thank you team!

I love the host/server Miwako, she was so nice and I believed that she’s a chef’s wife. The food there is phenomenal. I was so glad that we could be there and it’s the best seafood experience in Japan so far (we were here so many places). Highly recommended to all the seafood lovers.

If I would have to chose the best restaurant in Japan - Guttsuri-ann would be the place. And I have been living in Japan for 13 years… Absolute amazing food - freshly caught fish, cozy at home ambience topped by the great service. Worth a visit and worth to stop in Hiroshima just for this place. 200% I’ll visit again, that is sure.

I would take all my friends here. The owner is lovely, and we had a great server. The crowd is rowdy and loud in a fun way. The seafood was amazingly fresh, and every bite was a delight. We even learnt a bit about grilling fish! Highly recommended.

This place is the epitome of a great restaurant. The food is incredible, the service is friendly and honest, and the atmosphere is welcoming almost like you are at home. The restaurant is definitely not in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Hiroshima, but that is what honestly makes this place perfect. It is an adventure, but with an incredible meal at the end. I cannot say enough good things about this place, but I know I will definitely be back. Incredible experience.

Love their grilled fishes.. we had the seabass and barimandi... Their Kani fried rice was nicely stir-fried. Sashimi was super fresh, I love their tempura shrimp as well. They served very fresh seafood and throughout the night, we only see locals there.

I had a fantastic experience at Okonomiyaki Mitchan Sohonten Ekie Hiroshima Shinkansenguchi! The okonomiyaki was incredibly flavorful, with a perfect balance of crispy and soft textures. The savory sauce, combined with fresh ingredients, made every bite delicious. The restaurant’s location inside the Hiroshima Station ekie area was super convenient, especially for travelers. The staff were friendly and efficient, ensuring that even during a busy time, service was smooth. The atmosphere was cozy and authentically Japanese, giving a great local dining experience. Definitely a must-visit spot for okonomiyaki lovers!

The process is not straightforward. It would be easier for tourists if the ticket machine had English, but it's ok. One of the workers rescued me at the ticket machine and provided an English menu for me. She was so nice! The instructions are like this: First, locate the ticket machine next to the dining area and insert enough cash. Select the meal you would like and retrieve the ticket. Second, present your ticket to one of the servers and pick a seat (you have to wait if there is a line). Third, wait for your meal to arrive then enjoy! I had the #1. It was okonomiyaki. The portion was big! I want to come back to try another meal.

Tried the okonomiyaki because that is what Hiroshima is known for, however I would recommend the yakisoba with egg. I did not like the soba in the okonomiyaki as it is clumps together into bland chunks of cooked noodles. Yakisoba is much tastier.

Great shop for okonomiyaki. There is a ticket booth machine where you choose and pay for what you want, and then give it to wait staff who will cook it in the front. It’s conveniently located right at the main Hiroshima station, and the turn around time is reasonable. Portion size is really great.

My favourite meal I had in japan. Loved it, far more than osaka Okonomiyaki I had. Owners were kind hearted to us foreign tourists that spoke barely and japanese, had failed to get a ticket from the vending machine before lining up, and were with large suitcases. The taste was fresh and good flavours.

Portion was huge and noodles were serve pipping hot, great for a cold day. It's a noodle version of okonomiyaki compared to osaka style, I think it's more like teppanyaki noodle with cabbage below and egg on top than the typical osaka okonomiyaki. Nonetheless, it is tasty and definitely worth eating. Like the lemon chili they provided, adds flavour to the dish.

Expected better quality sushi given the rating. Reason for the lower rating was because of the service we received. When taking our order, the waiter wrote down the wrong item #, we were charged for it even though it was his error. With Japan’s excellence in service, we expected better.

Tourist trap. Regretted eating here. We visited this place for dinner and there were only tourists there. The atmosphere felt uncomfortable and everything felt over-priced. The quality of sashimi was mediocre, would be better off spending your money somewhere else.

Our first night in Hiroshima and this spot was around the corner from our hotel. We weren't quite sure what to expect but had an amazing meal and were looked after by the staff even tho no english. If you order the okonomiyaki it is quite large, so consider sharing. The yakitori (I think) are worth trying too - for western tastes the menu seems strange, but they all looked good and the beef (cow), sausage, seafood and chicken cartilage options all worth trying. With a few drinks and plenty of food, we were all done for less than 9000 yen. Recommended - but seems busy with a queue after 630-7pm.

It's just ok, super touristy. Not worth the queue for me. I had a very good one in ODA city 大田, and this isn't as good while being more expensive. The Thai staff were awesome though!

Hiroshima style okonomiyaki, with the ingredients between two layers of pancakes and there was yakisoba noodles included in it. It feels too chewy with the yakisoba but was cooked with crispy pork.

Simply amazing! Was only in Hiroshima for one night and I read about this restaurant in the book Rice, Noodle, Fish. So glad it lived up to my expectations! If your coming here you have to have the Hiroshima style it is there specialty.

English menu available so do not worry and patiently wait in the line. Live cooking is incredible experience so much fun, worth waiting so long. The place is known for Okonomiyaki but making one of them takes some time so while waiting we ordered grilled sea food which was absolutely amazing, tender and crispy 10/10. Okonomiyaki big portion I recommend take one and share. We paid by cash.

Great sushi restaurant. They serve Okayama barazushi (岡山ばら寿司), one of the local specialties. It’s served with sansai (mountain vegetables), chirimen (dried small sardines), renkon (lotus root), prawn, conger eel and much more. I tried one of those for ¥1,980 and it was delicious. It comes with a miso soup and a complimentary drink (usually hot tea). Great place to try this local dish (and others). Menu includes English translations. Friendly staff. You can pay with card.

We really enjoyed the Barazushi here. You really got a sense that it was made for celebrations. We also had a sushi set that was very fresh and absolutely delicious!

100%! So glad we came here. We saw the reservations were full and tried our luck with walk in at 6pm. The kind staff let us in and was so friendly. The staff spoke perfect English to us and gave us English menu. Service is impeccable. As for the food. WOW. Best wagyu we had this trip to Japan. Skilfully prepared by the chef. We also ordered other dishes like takoyaki, butter garlic octopus, garlic rice and black sesame ice cream. All so delicious. Wonderful meal and staff. Thank you so much!

Incredibly good !! My wife and me were having dinner tonight and place was simply amazing. - All the stuff was very nice and respectful with us, and waitress had great English level so it was very easy to communicate. - Place was extremely clean and ordered. Every single detail was perfectly crafted. - Food quality was impressive. Fresh ingredients, perfectly cocked and presented with care. - Mood was peaceful and vibe was relaxed. Jazz music, low light and neat interior. 10/10.

They definitely deserve higher than 5 stars for the service! The hospitality was really friendly and sincere. Everyone had a genuine smile when talking to us. We even received a thank you card with origami when we left!! We ordered the dinner sets. There were so many courses. The food was more than expected. They serve Chiyagyu as one of the main courses. Perhaps it’s because I don’t know much about wagyu, but I think it was not really impressive. The most surprising dish of the set was the dessert, which was a baked cheese cake with grapes and blueberry sauce. Not too sweet and with a pleasant milky flavour. I really love it!

This has been my favourite meal of our trip so far. While I was eating, I was thinking of the next time we’ll come back during our 3 day stay. The mazemen ramen was incredible. The chilled tofu was fantastic. And the fried oysters were so delicious, I ordered another serving! The staff were incredible - kind, welcoming, and like other reviews say, always smiling! You can tell that they care for their guests, even in the helpful signs around the restaurants. When we left, we were given a bookmark and it was so special! We will definitely be back!

A small restaurant with a couple of tables which makes it a little bit cramped but the tables are pretty big. The service was courteous, friendly and patient. The food was served under 10 minutes which was quite impressive for a full house. The restaurant also has a full menu in English which makes it a lot easier for people who can't read or speak Japanese. Even though their specialty is mazemen, they have a great selection of rice dishes and deep fried dishes as well which was great to try. Their mazemen was incredible. I really enjoyed the flavours and the elasticity of their noodles and they offer a lot of selections to accomadate the preferences of the customers. I also really enjoyed their various sauces that is served with their deep fried food. Everything is clearly labeled and every sauce had distinguished flavours that were quite delicious.

I was here in December 2023 on a visit to Hiroshima and popped in for dinner one night based on the reviews. The noodles and food were phenomenal. Cheap combo meals with sides, drinks, and noodles with extra pork. Above all though, the staff were super friendly and very welcoming; interested to start a conversation and learn more about us. Even taking a picture with the cooks and servers. English menu available. Will be back the next time I’m in Hiroshima. Do not miss this place.

Must try! Great Cold Noodles and Chicken Nanban. The shop different from usual shop. Noodles texture is chewy but not hard. I believe that the owner and Chef must be travel frequent or having a great cooking and gastronomy knowledges.

Wow! We went last night, and it was perfect. There were four of us, so we waited a little outside, where they offered us some tea and we could look at the menu (in English). The staff was super friendly, and we felt very welcome. We had the mezemen, and it was delicious. I want to thank all the staff for their excellent service (ありがとうございます)!

Koba was a unique find. We arrived just after opening and were lucky to get seats. It's a small place, so several people had to be turned away. We had to share a table with other people, but it was great to talk with everyone. The music was great as were the drinks and food (try the mochi bacon!). The owner was lovely. Even though we weren't sitting at the bar, he came over to chat and greet everyone in their own language. He has learned all the slang from other visitors.

Tiny eatery with great atmosphere and a good range of very tasty food. Definitely recommended. If it looks closed or abandoned, don't give up ... it's 3 flights of stairs up to the door.

The interior is super cool and unique. The food was very nice, just for these reasons I liked it. The owner Bom made my experience special I felt more welcomed than I have in any establishment in my life. the lady working was also fantastic. I think this is the best bar I've ever been too. Amazing atmosphere with even better food. If you’re looking for a grungy and fun izakaya vibe then this is the place. And a big shoutout to the fried chicken cartilage (nankotsu) the best I’ve ever tried in Japan and anywhere else. The right crispness and goes so well with the mayo sauce they serve.

Everyone is Japan has been kind but this was the first place I felt welcomed and accepted. Walked around around 2100, hungry looking for a spot. Saw the sign on the street and found the bar (you’ve got to go up to the top floor). The owner and staff were hilarious and great company. Food was good and fresh. Prices are good. If you want to go somewhere to relax and unwind, Japanese or not, this is the place to go. Ended up staying till closing. 100% would recommend and go back to. Even made some friends to meet in Osaka later.

A fabulous Izakaya! The owner rocks, the staff is friendly, the booze is plentiful and the food is incredible. If you go here, you're in for a fabulous evening.

We only had drinks, so we dont know if the food was any good. The owner was an old school rocker and extremely kind. He is always ready to talk with you, and even gave us some free snacks to nibble on as the night drew to a close. It was relatively quiet (except for the music of course) and it felt safe and comfortable. They had a couple of local beers, which was nice. The patrons were also very kind.

Walked in and was seated straight away. But disappointed that the tempura was already sold out at 12.30pm, but still plenty of options, both hot and cold. I went with the cold Yondai soba with 4 bowls - plain, yam, egg and Japanese horseradish. Service was fast and attentive. My Japanese is terrible so nodded along like I knew what I was being told, but worked it all out by simply watching other diners. The soba itself was nice enough, a good texture, but after having Sanuki Udon in Takamatsu, it was bland in comparison. The store has been open since the late 1700s so you can't really argue 😃

I visited here when I was sightseeing Izumo shrine. It's great to feel japanese old traditional style restaurant. I ordered Three-tiered soba noodles in a bowl which is appropriate to one people. Soba was very tasty and good scent. There were a lot of people to wait entering to the restaurant because of popularity.

Worth the wait! Visited on a weekday and added our name to the list. It took about 30 minutes to get seated. The duck soba was very good. Yes, it’s famous and popular and a tourist magnet but the quality lived up to the ratings.

I followed the steps of Goro Inogashira and had my first Izumo soba experience in this old noodle house. The way to eat stacks of soba is more interesting than the taste of food. To me, having 5 stacks was a bit overdone. I felt very full and had no room for zenzai after the meal.

Arrived at the restaurant 20 min before the opening time but there were over 10 groups waiting to be called. At the opening, maybe the first 15 to 20 groups are called in but the rest have to wait at least 30 min. Soba was very very good. You can choose the number of layers of Sobas from 3 to 5 (the amount of Sobas) with different toppings. One if the best in Izumo.

The soba here was so delicious and the service was wonderful! My friends and I all agree that it’s the best soba we have ever had. We were also so blown away when we found out that Arakiya has been in business for 230years! Within walking distance from Izumo Taisha so it’s a great spot to enjoy lunch when visiting Izumo Taisha. Prices were very reasonable.

Arrived 10 minutes before 12pm, there was already people queueing in front of me. There is a paper inside the shop near the entrance to write your name and number of people for them to calls you when your turn is up. Waited 15 minutes until my turn. The price is slightly higher than other soba shops, but I like the texture of its soba. There was huge crowd outside the shop when I finished my meal. Better reach there early to avoid the crowd.

My first okonomiyaki in Hiroshima is traumatic! I can’t even finish it. I can usually finish Japanese foods. It doesn’t taste good! It’s burned and it tasted like soap. And the uneven temperature, I don’t like it. The sauce is also terrible. I had high expectations! 😞

The best okonomiyaki you can have! We loved it here. Their teppanyaki okonomiyaki is fun to watch. The guys are so good at making them like watching the masters at work. This is a must try in Hiroshima station if you happen to be here. So delicious and not to heavy and not greas either... oh and the edamame was omg... you must try it here. This is local food to Hiroshima so its the best place for Okonomiyaki. We will definitely come back.

Really good Okonomiyaki that are not as falvorful as others, yet they look amazing as the are shaped and wrapped in egg. The atmosphere at this location is busy, but you sit at the teppan plate where the Okonomiyaki are fried. What is unpleasant is that while you wait for a seat your order is taken and literally a minute after you get your seat the food is served. Efficient but not very relaxing if dinner to you is more than just food intake.

Ordered the rosy with sauce over rice. Standard condiments given like miso soup and pickles. The green peas were interesting but it wouldn’t be my exact choice to pair this tonkatsu with rice and peas. The sauce was good and paired well with the Japanese rice. The chef had prepared the tonkatsu where it was not the usual bread crumbs crispy exterior, but it had a nice layer which went well with the sauce. It was the first time I had tasted such tonkatsu prepared in such a way so it was fresh and interesting. The service was fast as the cold water was already served before I sat down. Ambience was cosy and comfortable. Price wise was still reasonable (1100 yen).

i came here on 1 april 2025. after renting my kimono, i walked to this place because it seemed relatively nearby, and ate here! demi-glace tonkatsu is amazing, a delicacy of okayama i’ve never tasted before. it was a beautiful combination i would never expect to experience elsewhere, a sweetness of the demi glace sauce spread over the crunch of the tonkatsu. the staff were also friendly and got to me quickly despite the crowd. you have to buy your food ticket and wait outside if there’s a queue, and you’ll get seated relatively quickly because the line moves quick. would highly recommend if you want to eat something the locals eat! delicious🤩

When in Okayama, one should try the demi-glace cutlet. It was a bit too rich for my preference, but always love to try the local deliciousness. The restaurant itself has a very traditional Japanese atmosphere and if the demi-glace isn't your style, the egg style is also an excellent choice, or you can try both at the same time! Demi Katsudon is Okayama’s soul food so we had to try it. This restaurant was recommended by the hotel staff. It’s a simple dish - just a rice bowl with a thin tonkatsu on the top and demi glace sauce, very tasty and the sauce just right. They have other dishes too, but the katsudon is what they are famous for. The roast-katsu (fatty) is ¥900 and the filet-katsu (lean) ¥1000. The restaurant doesn’t have too many tables so if it gets full, you may have to sit at the same table with other people.

The demi-glace katsudon is quite mediocre, pork cutlet is poor quality - thin and not juicy. The sauce is salty and lacks flavour and sweetness as well. The egg katsudon is better, but nothing special compared to chain restaurants. Overall not worth waiting for. If there’s a queue, don’t bother.

Had been on the train all morning, stopped here for a late lunch based on the reviews, and was craving some authentic Katsudon. Ordered #18, the “Egg and onion pork tenderloin Katsudon set”. Incredible! Everything was excellent, and reasonably priced as well. Friendly staff, English menu available, and excellent food. Would definitely come again.

This place is popular with the locals for a reason. Expect long waits on weekends but heading in a bit early on a weekday will get you a seat asap.

Sushi: good. Value: great! You can get an omakase nigiri set for 2700 yen / 13 pieces, and with good quality fish. Nigiri served on a banana leaf is different. Some of the best sushi we've had in Japan, really friendly staff, great service and good location for exploring Hiroshima. Would highly recommend for lunch or dinner - we went at 17:00 (when it opens) for an early dinner and by 17:30 it was full (mostly locals).

You’re basically eating nothing but noodles and hardly any vegetables or meat. if you’re in a time crunch don’t come. Waiting for a main meal dish is going to be over 30 minutes. Looks idyllic from the outside, however...almost empty and on a Thursday night. 500 yen cover pp. Asked for garlic bread and got chunks of unbaked bread with a tiny dish of olive oil, which was woefully insufficient for 3 diners. Risotto was a small portion and didn't justify the price tag. Tiramsu was the worst ever had and it wasn't authentic as no sponge and a biscuit base! Bizarre! The most expensive meal we have had, 14400 yen, having travelled fm Tokyo, Koyoto, Kobe, Osaka, Koyasan, Miyajima. Only chose this as right outside Peace museum and fancied a change from Japanese food. Wasn't overly impressed tbh!

Lovely Italian place with very good food. Only down side was that the staff was uninterested towards the guests. We had Carpaccio and advocado with salmon as starter, waygu cheek and duck as main, panacotta and tiramisu as desert with coffee. It was a great meal.

Yummy!!! Immediately impressed! We arrived to this beautiful restaurant about 21 minutes before its afternoon closing; they still let us sit & dine 🍽. The pasta here is very good! I haven't been to Japan for a few years, and the standards have remained high. This restaurant is no exception. The servers here were phenomenal. The food and dessert, perfect. Wow, a 5 ++!! This little hidden gem across from Hiroshima Peace Park has the atmosphere, great personal service, and fantastic Italian dishes. We were there for lunch and sitting by the open window enjoying some beer and prosecco was so relaxing. The seafood was fresh and was so good with the pasta. I believe there maybe some handicap issues as bathroom is upstairs. Again, service was so personal and attentive. Prices for this area a place were reasonable too. If here, turn around and look between the trees to see this beautiful little restaurant. A must visit here in Hiroshima!!

4 stars for the location, ambiance and service at dinner. Appetizers were passable but I would expect a little more of a taste sensation for the prices (just under ¥1000 per appetizer). Wine selection was good and enjoyed a couple of different white wines. Finished with kind of Japanese style peperoncino pasta (not pictured) which was rather disappointing - may be the mullet row and the shrimps used just weren't for me and the sliced Japanese sansho pepper had a spicy kick that was quite overwhelming. I probably should stuck something more classic. Have enjoyed lunch here before

The restaurant was pretty big and cosy. I really like the wooden interior decor that adds to the cosy feeling. The food was heartwarming. Their oyster miso udon had amazing flavours and the oysters were fresh and meaty. Even though it was quite enjoyable, I feel like it was a bit too heavy for me and I was getting pretty tired of the flavours halfway through. The prices are pretty reasonable but a bit expensive compared to other restaurants in the surrounding area. The service was great. All the waitresses were friendly and accommodating. The food was served in under 10 minutes and they kept passing by to refill our tea. An English menu can also be found on their online ordering page which can be reached through the ordering QR code.

Recommended by my Japanese teacher from Hiroshima, and now I see why! A favorite spot for Hiroshima families, with almost no tourists. Authentic atmosphere and great food — a real hidden gem.

This was one of the better meals I've had on this trip. This is a traditional Japanese restaurant. Sis got the sushi set which she says was the best she has had. I got the miso oyster udon which was a seasonal dish. Oysters were fresh and the miso broth was very tasty. The server was very nice and explained to us the dish (although in Japanese which I don't understand). Nevertheless we felt welcomed and thought that it was a good quality meal and was well worth the visit. Wouldn't mind going back again next time I am in Hiroshima. Note that you have to take off your shoes before heading to the second floor.

One of the few non-smoking places with high quality sushi and flavored rice pot (kamameshi). Family friendly staff and efficient serving of food. Visited several times for lunch, dinner, and group banquet. Favorite dish is Grand Tuna Sushi Plate. Used to have stone-grilled Hiroshima steak but sad to see it gone from the menu. It took me a while to catch that the Kanji on the menu phonetically sounded as meh-nyu, which seems to use Kanji to mimic the English word, menu, without using western alphabet.

The tofu was amazing and the only gripe was with the chicken skewer which was a bit dry but everything else was nothing short of amazing ! Highly recommended. We came at 6pm on Friday and tot it was closed but if you open the sliding door there it was ! And there was no queue ! Yay

Affordable and delicious yakitori joint that's pretty popular during dinner time. If you are unsure of what to order I recommend getting the course which comes with a variety of skewers and sides. The amount of food depends on the course you choose.

How nice to be part of the local scene! We had a perfect evening watching the chef grilling the skewers, enjoying all sorts of Yakitori while having a few beers too. Absolutely a must stop when staying over in Kurashiki!

Amazing ambience and atmosphere! What a fantastic way to gry out sake for the first time. We ate a lot and our favourite was the rib skewer. The seating upstairs are traditional sitting-on-your-knees with a pillow which gave me a impression of genuinetly .

We had two types of cold dipping-sauce noodles - spicy soy and sesame (preferred the spicy soy). Both the sauces and the toppings are very customisable. I'd recommend adding extra toppings as the base (couple of pork slices and some veg) isn't quite enough.

We had really tastey Hiroshima Tsukemen here. The spicy dipping sauces were soo good. We had the level 15 and 10. Perfect lunch meal. We will definitely come here again.

Quite delicious spicy tsukemen. We ordered spiciness of level 15 but it wasn't really spicy. The fried chicken were good too. When we first came on weekend lunch time and it was very busy. We returned on Monday dinner time and there were only us and another 2 people.

It was alright, the much hyped tsumekemen is tasty, however the char siu's is quite underwhelming, it has the texture equivalent of a toilet paper. To me, the star of the show is the chicken karage (fried chicken), fried to perfection, well seasoned and not too oily.

First time trying Hiroshima Tsukemen, and Bakudanya definitely delivered. You can choose from four different portions, small to mega for noodles. For the dipping sauce, select the spiciness level from 1-15. I wasn't brave enough and went with 5. It was DELICIOUS!

This is a rare upscale non-smoking okonomiyaki fine restaurant. Family-friendly staff and setup. There are multiple table seats and several counter seats to watch the chefs cooking. Great for individuals and groups. The okonomiyaki is of great and consistent quality, and tastes good by itself without much need of the sauce. They offer an option to serve okonomiyaki on an iron-embedded wood plate to keep it warm. The restaurant offers more than okonomiyaki, including dishes of fish, beef, pork, veggies, etc. with great quality and presentation on a dark flat rock sheet or a white ceramic plate. Such options are good for foreign visitors who are new to Japan and have not got used to the dining style of okonomiyaki.

Course menu was okay, the signature dish in the course was really bad and cheaply made. The all you can drink was a joke, it was like drinking water.

As there was no vegetarian options (because of the dashi), I took vegetable tempuras, the staff was very nice and helpful. (Ps: the vegetable tempuras are fried in the same oil as the shrimp tempuras)

Very very good udon, smooth texture and cooked to perfect doneness. The basic udon noodle soup is flavourful but not overly powering, well balanced. The other had a deep spiced flavour but not spicy, just right.

I wasn't even planning to visit a restaurant, but because it was looking like rain and there was a queue, I decided to go for it - and what a great decision that was! The whole experience was amazing. The service is friendly, the guestroom is pretty and the food delicious. I tried the house specialty of three different flavors. Very subtle flavors, but highly enjoyable. The consistency of the noodles, the difference texture the toppings create, it's an experience. Loved it!

Found this place by accident wandering the streets for some dinner. Pay at the ticket machines to the left as you walk in then sit down to enjoy your choice. I had ramen which was very good. My friend also got gyoza which he said was the best he had ever eaten.

Rather pleasant Izakaya specialising in local Hiroshima specialties, particularly oysters. The uni and spinach hotplate was new to me and very tasty. The grilled oysters and panfried oysters in butter sauce with a dash of local lemon are a must.

I had my solo farewell dinner here before leaving Japan, and I was really satisfied with the experience. Watching the chef cook the meals provided a great distraction while dining alone. The hot stone spinach sea urchin dish, a Hiroshima specialty, was a standout—absolutely delicious. The oysters were cooked to perfection, and I thoroughly enjoyed the cold tofu as well. The teriyaki eel was another highlight—the texture was perfect, and the portion was just right. The Miso clam soup was hot and refreshing, making it a great appetizer to warm up before the main course. I found the pricing to be reasonable for all the dishes I tried, which made the meal even more enjoyable. Despite the busy crowd, the service was fast and efficient. The menu offered so many interesting dishes that I wish I could have tried them all. I was particularly impressed with how hygienic and clean the chefs kept their workspace, which made dining there even more comfortable. Japanese cuisine and service never fail to impress, and this meal was no exception. Thank you to the chefs for a wonderful dining experience!

This was our first meal in Hiroshima. There was no line as we came right when they opened. I came to Hiroshima to eat oysters so of course we ordered every kind. I loved all of them but the fried ones were particularly good. The oysters were plump, huge, and really fresh. It seemed strange to have uni over spinach on a hot plate but it was so good we ordered another plate. I have never had oysters this good before and will be thinking about these for a long time.

A great lunch. Have never tried Hiroshima oysters and these were plump and juicy. There's not a whole lot of selection on the menu (might be a limited English version) but they do it well. We had a fried oyster set and a conger eel set and both were delicious. We also got some grilled oysters and the waitress was so considerate - as one of the oysters were small, they grilled another for us, complimentary. Highly recommend if you're keen to try some local oysters.

Everything we ordered was delicious. The grilled oysters are truly a must try, they are big, juicy and still have the sea taste despite the grilling. They were probably the best grilled oysters I ever had. Everything else was delicious from the the salmon kimchi to the fried chicken (which was juicy and not greasy) to the spinach with sea urchin melting in your mouth!

We have little knowledge about chiya beef but it turns out to be a superb experience. Found this shop when googling for Chiya beef while in Okayam. Absolute waste of money. The Chiya beef was not even up to supermarket quality. And the grilling spot was definitely not japanese standard clean. The price to quality is just not there. Not to mention we didn't felt welcomed as foreigner.

He kindly let us in while he kept setting up the place. We ordered a bottle of wine, kimchi and various yakiniku cuts. A pricey dinner worth every yen. Honestly the best yakiniku I’ve ever had. I particularly enjoyed the chiya beef. It was so good it brought us to tears. With a little more care in the cleaning of tables and seating areas this place would be just absolute perfection.

Highly recommended! Excellent restaurant serving Hiroshima Okonomiaki. It was almost full when we arrived for lunch, but we managed to get the last table. The other tables and the chairs at the teppanyaki we full of locals - no other tourists in sight. There was rarely an empty chair for long. As soon as a person finished their meal there was another hungry person ready to take their place. We ordered the Fumichan Special Okonomiaki with Soba noodles and the squid tentacles. The okonomiaki was delicious. The noodles were crispy and there was just the right amount of sauce. There’s extra in a bottle for the addicts. The squid tentacles were outstanding - crispy, and smokey with flavour from the teppanyaki. Top tip: If you sit at the counter you can eat directly off the teppanyaki. Although I think this is reserved for locals.

They are cooked right in front of you and your seat is at the edge of the hot grill, so the food stays steamy and continues to cook as you eat it. Super friendly staff and good beer on draft.

Staff were very helpful, even though this feels like a local spot rather than a tourist place. I explained I’d eat anything and asked for their recommendation, and it was the basic soba okonomiyaki at ¥800. I didn’t get extras because I wanted a baseline experience, but the Fumichan Special looked great. Anyway my dish was cooked and served on the stove in front of me, and was delicious. If you’re at the counter you’ll be expected to cut the dish with one small spatula, but it works, just stick with it. Perfect with draft beer. That basic soba okono was a filling meal, but I’ll try some toppings next time.

He trained under an okonomiyaki master and absorbed every nuance of flavor while infusing dishes with his own Latin warmth/spice. The place has a soul which you’ll feel the moment you sit down. Lopez and his wife work the grill as a team, engaging customers in Japanese, English, and Spanish - effortlessly bridging cultures. The food is extraordinary, made to order in front of your seat, and a culinary masterclass. This humble restaurant tucked in Yokogawacho is now a local institution. The lines are long for good reason - it’s real, comforting, and run by a chef whose humility and dedication remind me of home (literally my eyes are swollen with tears as I think of my father in law). Thank you, Chef Lopez, for over-serving kindness and under-selling your brilliance. Hope to be back soon.

Amazing and delicious okonomiyaki, friendly and welcoming staff, Lopez Okonomiyaki is an easy recommendation if you are in the area. It is cash only too at the time of visit. After researching a bit I decided that I wanted the try the food here as the representative for Hiroshima style okonomiyaki. I've never had Hiroshima style before, only the more widespread Kansai version. They do have an English Menu available. Ended up ordering Soba Niku Tama Okonomiyaki with negi and chef's recommendation of jalapeño topping. Hands down best okonomiyaki I've ever had and I now prefer the Hiroshima style over the Kansai version. Instead of being a pancake/omelette hybrid, the Hiroshima style is thinner and more crepe like. It allows for the toppings and other ingredients to stand out more. And the jalapeños are a nice touch/twist. Chef said they originated the use of jalapeños as a topping, but mentions that everyone does it now. But I'm glad I got to try the originators. This is the most balanced okonomiyaki I've ever had too. It's not drowned and swimming in mayo and sauce. The sauce is also provided on the side so you can determine just how much you need. Just a little bit on top was enough to get that classic okonomiyaki taste. Chef really brought out the smoky flavors and aroma, watching your food being prepared by a master while drinking a beer is such a great experience. It did take a bit longer than standard okonomiyaki, but good food takes time to make. One thing to note, if you are introverted (like me), prepare yourself to engage in small talk. This place will be a nightmare because the staff is so friendly. Chef especially, engages with everyone and makes sure they are taken care of, along with stories and questions. 😂 I can't recommend a stop by Lopez Okonomiyaki enough. The lived/worn in atmosphere and aesthetic, to the warm staff, and the great food, it was one of the most memorable stops I've had in Japan....ever.

We were very impressed and happy about our experience. The food was phenomenal but the service was even better. We were overall happy about this choice. As travellers from Canada, we’re always adventurous wanted to try something adventurous. This is exactly what we wanted. When telling the owner that this has been our favourite food experience in Japan so far, he was very humble and said there was lots of restaurants in Japan so we’ll have to try them all. One of the dinners highlights during our stay in Hiroshima. Great food, friendly service. We had the udon okonomiyaki and it had a nice chew to it and was so delicious. Owner speaks English, Japanese, and Spanish. Muchisimas gracias!

A very well known soba restaurant at the edges of Matsue Castle. The staff is super friendly and the soba noodles are beloved by locals. I had the duck soba which was subtly tasty. A good atmosphere too.

Nice soba restaurant with a great garden view. Be here a nit early ao that you can sit near the window and enjoy the garden view while eating their soba. Their signature menu is Duck Soup Soba and Warigo Soba(?), three stacks of soba with many different kinds of topping. Theyve got an English Menu but it is bit pricey for soba ... and their customer service... well, it is not bad, but they are always in hurry. I ordered soba and wanted a beer but she just walked away (pretty much ran away). So three star for them despite good taste and nice view...

A old established restaurant that serves handmade soba noodles. Set in a old traditional house with a garden in the middle, just a stone's throw from the matsue castle. Was quite crowded, had to wait a while. Limited menu, mostly soba noodles only.

Excellent soba. The staff are very nice and tell you how to enjoy the meal in traditional way. There are limited car park and parking place is very small.

I found out about this place from a client who hails from Matsue. Soba is the name of the game here. The garden, historic building all add to the experience. The walls are filled with Japanese celebrities who ate here. Great lunch after visiting Matsue Castle! ( I got 3 bowls of soba set. Yo can also get 5..7.. can't leave hungry)

If you like soba, this is the place. This restaurant is famous in Matsue city, near with Matsue Castle. In lunch time, maybe it is difficult for you to find parking lot.

Great place for the local soba which comes in 3 stackable containers. You season the top one, pour the salty dashi over it, eat it and decant the leftover broth onto the next container and repeat. You also will want to try the Fumaiko dessert. Ridiculously good. It gets busy even mid week and they only accept cash.
