Le Quai des Mers is a restaurant located in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, France. It offers high-quality food and excellent service within the La Cite de la Mer museum. Visitors can enjoy a delightful dining experience while exploring the museum. The restaurant has received positive feedback for its exceptional offerings and is recommended for those looking to savor delicious meals during their visit to Cherbourg.
I went to visit the museum (which btw is amazing and that's from a non museum person and you can easily spend the entire day here) and this restaurant is within it albeit you don't need to pay the entrance fee to eat there. The food was really very good. Loved everything about it.
Alexander V — Google review
I had lunch in Le Quai des Mers restaurant while touring the museum La Cité de la Mer. I was seated almost immediately. I chose Salade Ceasar from the menu. It was presented well. I was surprised at a fillet of anchovy being on the salad, as I've never experienced that before. Apart from the anchovy, the salad tasted good.
Len P — Google review
This was an amazing surprise for our visit to La Cité de la Mer: hyper quality food, wonderful service all within the museum. Don’t hesitate! We will be back to eat here when next in Cherbourg. Merci Le Quai des Mers!
Claire M — Google review
Having spent several hours looking around the various exhibitions at the Cite de la Mer it was great to be able to have a meal on site. The restaurant is lovely and bright and has good choices on the menu - I chose the slow cooked lamb and potatoes which was delicious. The house red went very well with it and the service and speed of the food arriving was very good. Well worth trying as there should be something for everyone.

Fantastic and a perfect location if your an a ship.

Been here a few times, usually with small granchildren. I like the fact that it's a very nice restaurant for good food, particularly seafood, but welcomes children and provides their favourite 'fish and chips' drink and ice cream in a meal deal while the adults enjoy Moules Frites, Choucroute de la Mer and very good steaks. Good choice of wine and very nice Cafe Gourmand. The staff are excellent, bringing the kids meals quickly and very friendly. After a pleasant two hours in the adjacent Aquarium it's nice to relax over a good meal, treat for the grandchildren too be be welcomed and indulged by the staff.
Jackie C — Google review
Very dissapointed with this place, would give it no stars if i could. My partner ordered a lamb curry, he is allergic to tomatoes. You wouldnt expect tomatoes in a curry. There was no mention lf the ingredients in this. When it arrived full of tomatoes he had to send it back. Not wanting to risk it again he ordered a dessert. When it came to the bill they had the nerve to charge us for the curry. This is disgustin customer service especially when they are at fault in not listing their ingredients like english places do. Very over priced for food that is not good quality. Afterwards we noticed there is a cafe behind it . Wish we had seen it before!!!

Cheese Heaven is how I'd describe this place. Their dishes are amazing especially the soupy eggs in cheese and bacon and of course their range of fondue options. The service is awesome with lovely waitresses including one who is a spitting image of Arya Stark from Game of Thrones 😂 Defo going back!

Tasty, huge portions, can’t wait to be back.
Marcin D — Google review
Liked the overall ambience of the restaurant. The food was fine. We choose a menu with cheese fondue and flavour wise was good, but the bread was not fresh... Now some will say that stale bread is right to be used in cheese fondue, but I beg to differ... The taste of the bread (that was good bread) is not the same, which made the email fall short of the expectation. Also there were some flows and mosquitoes flying around (and the weather was not too hot) and that made me wonder about the restaurant cleanliness...
Pedro F — Google review
Pretty decent food with food French service. Exactly what I wanted. I would recommend if you're a fan of cheese and want a slightly different evening than expected. The bar next door (La Bayou) was fantastic. Highly recommend the bar.

The restaurant has garnered positive reviews from travelers and is considered one of the best dining options in the area. Excellent crepes, wonderful prices. We were meeting with family members and one has siliac(allergic to gluten)-after much review we picked here for their traditional buckwheat galettes, and she had a wonderful time and did not get sick! The food was very fresh and well made, and you can tell the place is very loved by locals. They sang happy birthday to someone while we were there also:) They do speak some English but not a too much, so please try to know some phrases- however they are fine with you just pointing to the menu and there are some descriptions in English. I would 100% come here again to enjoy their food made with skill and passion.

Perfect Galette (savory buckwheat crepe) and sweet Crepe ... crisp on the outside, but still fluffy enough texture to allow the crepe to soak in the tasty juice from the topping.

Restaurant
Le Pily is a sleek venue offering tasting menus of seasonal French classics with a global twist, along with wine pairings. Located in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, the restaurant provides an upscale dining experience. While some dishes may not have the wow factor, others such as the incredible turbot dish and the best chicken ever tasted are sure to impress. The pricing is comparable to similar establishments in the region.
Dined in last year in early November. Came back again the next day when chef offered to serve us a different menu. Was my first Michelin star resturant and it was worth the visit. Great wine and cocktail combinations. Highly recommend, you wont regret.
Rahim A — Google review
Wonderful experience! The food was extremely good and on my point for my preferences. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Mihai C — Google review
Le Pily, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Cherbourg, is an culinary gem that excels not only in taste but also in presentation. The creative food displays are impressive, brining the dining experience to another level. Each dish served is a masterpiece, beautifully crafted to delight both the eyes and the palate. The attention to detail in both taste and presentation truly showcases the chef's culinary talent. I highly recommend this restaurant when you come to Cherbourg.
Linh P — Google review
Truly excellent meal that continuously surprised and delighted us over the 2 1/2 hours we were there. With whimsical cheffy names to the various courses like a “l’abrogade” and “duchesse a Paris” you weren’t exactly sure what you were going to wind up with, but it didn’t matter because almost everything was delicious and clearly inspired. Two minor quibbles: the first sushi pieces were just ok — nothing beyond what you’d expect at a good sushi bar — and I shouldn’t have to ask for water repeatedly…it should just be delivered seamlessly.
Michelle L — Google review
I thought that I left a review for Le Pily a while back when I took my wife there for our anniversary. It was one of our favorite dinners in France and we highly recommend. Each course was perfectly presented and the textures and combinations was everything you would hope for from a restaurant of this caliber. I don't remember the prices but I do remember think it was extremely high value for what paid. Amazing wine pairing. They easily took into account the few allergies and food preferences we had.
Tony F — Google review
Honestly, that's not a real michelin Star restaurant. The serving of food is like in michelin star restaurant, nice view, luxury interior. But the food wasn't really good, in 6 course menu probably only 2 plates was nice. The wine list is good.
Professor Q — Google review
Thank you for an amazing experience! The food was delicious, and wine was perfectly paired. It was so good, we brought our friends back the following evening!
Christina J — Google review

French restaurant
Le Sequin is a modern and elegant restaurant located at the Cherbourg Casino, offering a subdued atmosphere perfect for an evening of fine dining. The menu features classic yet refined French dishes such as morel risotto, duck fillet, and foie gras with shallot chutney. While the setting may not be suitable for children, there is a special menu available for them.
Good value. It's better to come before 8:00 PM as it's the same entrance as the Casino, then you can access to the restaurant on your left . The waiters are cool and professional. If you have a table by the window, you could glance at the bassin du commerce. No specific parking lot. Clean bathrooms... My little critic is the salmon. It is from Norway whereas there is one from Cherbourg, which is better but more expensive, not on the menu. Actually, it's recommended to check the menu online before you go. No surprise, the pictures (on the tablet menu) are really what you have in your plates. There are 3 ranges of menu. The menu is kept/proposed a moment before it changes. Enjoy!

Located in the heart of Cherbourg's quays, Restaurant La Marina Cherbourg offers a modern and welcoming atmosphere with a unique view of Le Point du Jour restaurant. Established in 2020, this dining spot is known for its excellent service and reasonably priced fresh seafood. It's a great choice for those looking to enjoy delicious meals while taking in the beautiful surroundings.
I had dinner at Restaurant La Marina in Cherbourg. I was seated, so I was facing the harbour, but the view was spoilt by the construction fencing outside and also by the internal reflections of the restaurant behind me. I chose Aumõniere Normande Andouille, camembert, pommes, champignons or Norman beggar's purse, andouille, camembert, apples, mushrooms for my starter. It was delicious 😋 For my Plat or main, I selected Trayers de porc fume cuisson basse temperature Lentilles vertes du Puy or Smoked Pork ribs low temperature cooking green lentils from le Puy. The ribs were cooked to perfection and falling off the bone and melting in my mouth. The green lentils with bacon was very filling. I could not eat dessert as I was too sated. 😋

Brasserie Marcel's is a delightful gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. Nestled conveniently near the ferry terminal, it offers ample parking, making it an ideal stop for travelers and locals alike. The brasserie boasts a vibrant atmosphere complemented by friendly staff who are dedicated to providing excellent service. With a menu that caters to all ages, including simple yet delicious options for kids, Brasserie Marcel's ensures everyone leaves satisfied.
Genuinely am torn as to whether to write this review, the answer is in reality is a review must be done, mainly to say deepest thank you to all at Brasserie Marcel's for yet another amazing or in French délicieux meal. Let me explain why I was torn, if we highlight the truly excellent Brasserie Marcel's then it becomes a firm favourite (if not already) with all those ferry passengers returning home and locals alike, and a last meal on French soil. The answer is of course that the restaurant has a genuine love of food, using fresh local produce, and perfected the art of looking after their clients, great 'vibe' that for us now is nearly the first place to book on our visit to France through Cherbourg. Generally speaking ferry ports are a drive though on arrival, and a last shop on way back. Brasserie Marcel's is on the outskirts of Cherbourg, plenty of parking spaces, not far from a few hypermarkets, and would you believe shares the parking lot with WBS for all your Wines, Beers and Spirits! We had a week exploring Normandy in late Sept, my wife and I finally had delicious 6 snails for entree, and for the mains I fully committed to a entrecote (which now sits in my top 3 best ever), my wife had the prawns with the most amazing bisque, my in laws had also entrecote and sea bass, all washed down with a great Sancerre. Knowing this was our 'dinner' before getting on the boat, we went for desserts, mine was the raspberry trifle which was great, however my wife went for the apple pie (which doesn't sound anywhere near as good as 'tarte aux pommes') which was insanely good.... Thank you to the team at Brasserie Marcel's, usually the end of a trip is tinged with sadness upon leaving France, in a weird way I and my family look forward to the end of our trip, food and wine was well priced when compared to some of the touristy parts we visited like St Malo, and Honfleur. I don't need to convince anyone about going here, it is consistently brilliant, throughout the year, ie open all year except Sunday's. If team at Marcel's read this we did have one question, what is the connection or is there a connection with Marcel Marceau (he was born in Strasbourg) and Cherbourg/Brasserie Marcel's? There is a statue of MM in Cherbourg.

Maybe it was my mistake to order a burger in a French restaurant ,but hamburger was awful. It was overcooked outside and dry inside. ( Pictures attached) Even though I was very hungry, I couldn't finish it and was afraid to order anything else.BTW ,I showed it to the waiter, but didn't receive any response. I liked the decor and the atmosphere, but I usually don't go to a restaurant for the decor. And one more point : I ordered a glass of wine, and the waiter brought it to me from the bar without showing me which bottle it was poured from.

Good Restaurant with a broad variety of food choices. The service was friendly and fast. The food was bit bland. I wish the ceviche had more acidity and spicyness.

Stopped at this place on our way for a night ferry. Fantastic find and will become a part of the tradition when we sail from Cherbourg for the following main reasons: - lots of parking out the front of the restaurant. Really important for us to allow us to park our camper safely. - friendly staff and very tasty food with a simple but tasty menu for the kids. - next door to a wine store for the last minute top ups.

Excellent food, great atmosphere, and awesome service! I 100% recommend!!!
Flo F — Google review
Just terrible. Rude service. Mussels were undercooked, some were rotten. Complained to the waiter, answer was "we all make mistakes". No apologies, when we left we got an arrogant lecture on cooking mussels. There are probably reasons why Le Liberty had ample space on the terrace while other restaurants were full.

Despite a cold wet Monday evening when most Restos in France are closed our experience was a very good one. The Chef is without a genius. Top of the accolade for me was the starter of Poached Oysters in Velvet crab sauce with cream and wine. Utterly superb! For us the meal with a bottle of Muscadet came to just over 70 Euros. Where in the UK could you find such value? If you are ever in Cherbourg definitely worth a visit.

POLICE # POLICE # POLICE !!! Never back to this restaurant. She has tried to take extra money by tricky way. When we have tried to understand why and to explain our side, she locked the restaurant door and called the police We are tourists and no one believes to us that it happened in France. Now I read here another similar comment (see Stef Herv review) and I realized that it is the norm of this Madam and this restaurant. This is not the way to solve problems especially for tourists that don't know the language. Shame!!!

L'Equipage brewery provides excellent customer service, with accommodating waiters despite a busy schedule. The food is not only nice but also delicious and superb, at a more affordable price compared to other establishments in the center. The spacious atmosphere makes it suitable for both families and romantic dates. This recommended restaurant in Cherbourg offers beautiful ocean views, thanks to its location near the marina. The freshly baked bread and extensive wine selection are impressive while the chicken, potatoes, and apple tart offer delightful flavors.
Always very welcoming, always busy but somehow they always manage to find us a table! Been coming for years! Always a reliably good meal, not fine dining, just good tasty food! Half decent wine, not overpriced. Atmosphere always buzzy and if you like boats there are views across the huge Chantereyne marina.

We just had the most amazing meal here tonight , I had pork , my wife had scallops and wow both so tasty, presented and served perfectly in a lovely warm and cosy setting . The service was just excellent , cost was very reasonable for what we had and the taste second to none. Well spaced restaurant , clean and the toilets were same with plenty of accessories. The guys serving were so helpful and couldn’t do enough for us as well as keeping a full restaurant of customers satisfied , we didn’t book , just arrived and were lucky to get a table , not sure if they take bookings but I’d advise to do so if you can to avoid disappointment. Rebalancing the rating: Not very accommodating staff: arrived already on off peak season and staff asked us to wait outside when wind was really strong (next day after the storm). Ok fine... Then asked to sit at a table with a better view but they said the table was reserved... Ok fine... Ordered the "planche" or fixed menu which comes with appetizer/entree/dessert/beverage that arrives all at the same time. Not usual in France... Entree was just ok, sauce was too watery. Got lucky for the dessert as they ran out of the crème brûlée around 12:45pm... Conclusion: ok food/not accommodating staff and would not return to eat if nearby.

The food was good, especially the entré. The entrecote was ordered medium minus but was more like medium plus. The biggest complaint is the service! I understand no english service or menus, this is not a complaint about that. The complaint is: I received the entree before any drinks were served! I ordered a whisky aperitif, sparkling water, and a bottle of red wine for drinks. After waiting about 10 minutes, the cook comes up and slams the entree on the table. I had to wait another 5 minutes to get any attention from the waiter, to ask where are my drinks? Another 5 minutes later I finally got my drinks, at which time my entree was already on the cold side. The young lady waitress was more preoccupied with the till than actual service. At the end, service became good with the appearance of an older lady waitress, who was very professional.

Close to the hotel I was staying at. A hell of a lot better choice than McDonald's. Has English menu, good food (not the ribs) and cozy environment. I like to go before the dinner rush. I hate kids.....and other people. Update, the food is good. I stand by that, but any meat dish you order will be undercooked from what you request, if they even ask. There are fruit flies or gnats constantly flying around and definitely don't go there if you are in a rush. Once they ask you if you would like dessert, they will completely forget about you. Even if you are the only one there, of which I was on several occasions.

Staying overnight at the nearby Kyriad Hotel in Equerdreville ready for the ferry home the next day, I had asked the hotel receptionist where I could find somewhere to eat. He suggested the Creperie de la mer- about 5mins walk from the hotel, and with few if any other places to eat in the vicinity, that's where I ended up. It is nearly always a good sign when an eaterie is frequented by locals, and fortunately I had arrived at a good time, as tables were filling rapidly. My order was taken within a few minutes by one of the two friendly servers, and even though the place was buzzing by now, my order was at my table in what seemed like just a few minutes. Of course, it doesn't take long to make a gallette, but even so, I was impressed by the overall ambience, good service and good food. I did make a point of thanking the owner, who also seemed to be the chef. A great find if ever you find yourself in or around Cherbourg.

The brewery Café de l'étoile Cherbourg is an ideal spot for people watching and those who are always on the go, with a pleasant ambiance. It offers scrumptious coffee and cake, as well as an exceptional selection of tea. Additionally, it serves fresh and delectable local fish and seafood. This charming French pastry shop leaves visitors astounded by its impressive offerings.
Terrific location in Cherbourg. Good menu, food service begins later, so relax and have coffee first. Excellent tartines and croque monsieur. Good service.

A well-located cafe at one end of the main Rue de Château in the centre of Cherbourg. With it's enclosed terrace it is perfect for a spot of people watching despite rain or sun. Order a cafe allonge and switch on your vacation mode and enjoy the tranquil life of the Cherbourgois. The terrace allows smoking so if that bothers you, get a table by the window inside. Pets are allowed.

Amazing little french pastry shop. Just stopped by from a cruise and wow this place was quite impressive. Compare to the pastry shops we have out in canada. Just so rich and buttery and the variety of pastries was just wow. Wish i can have these everyday.

Very nice staff. Very bad food. Steak and frites sent back to kitchen TWO times and still not edible. Croque madam soggy and old. Again .... nice people and nice service. Horrible food. They didn’t even offer a discount on the bill and we ate 15% of our meal leaving all the food behind.

Nice place to sit and nothing else. service is terribly slow and the waiters cannot focus on more than 1 table. I waited almost 15 min to place my order and 3 times I tried to place it with one of the waiters inside since nobody bothered to come to our table and still they asked me to wait in my table. after finally ordering I had to wait another 30 minutes to finally decide to cancel the food because all other tables that came and ordered after us already had their food. i tried explaining the situation to a waitress who could only say "yes yes sandwich yes" since she clearly doesn't speak english. she should say from the beginning "I don't speak english" instead of trying to pretend she does wasting customers time. Will not even bother to come back again and it's a shame since there is only few places in this town to have a somewhat decent meal.

We had an absolutely delightful evening dining in Sébastien’s restaurant; lucky to be in Cherbourg on a Thursday, the only evening he serves dinner. We shared both entrees: delicious, creative, full of flavour that kept your mouth wondering about the source of each flavour. The pollack was cooked perfectly with the most delicious sauce and al dente vegetables. We shared an exquisite creative dessert and all enjoyed with a scrumptious Chablis. Sébastien generously shared some time with us discussing food, cooking, and life in general - completely charming! We highly recommend this gem in the heart of the old town - be sure to find your way there for lunch, you won’t regret it.

Lucky as we walked by and looked at the menu the young chef was just arriving. He was friendly and we asked him to reserve a table for us that evening, what a fantastic find. Small limited menu but everything was absolutely superb. Beautifully and brilliantly executed dishes. Wines were good too. The young chef is indeed extremely talented. The lady waitress was attentive and pleasant. All in all a perfect evening ..thank you .

We loved our lunch in this lovely waterfront seafood restaurant the team was so friendly and helped us with our very limited French. We had the lunch menu of the day. It was incredible. We started with the sea snails and the fish loaf. Stunningly presented and so delicious. The main course was fish in a “Normandía” sauce with roasted potatoes and a salad. The cooking techniques were perfect. The flavors were balanced. It was delicious? Desserts were out of this world! The strawberry panna cotta topped with a fluff of meringue and a bowl of the darkest chocolate ice cream. The desserts we’ll dream about for weeks. This was one of our favorite meals ever.

I could call this a hidden gem in the city centre of Cherbourg. Really nice food with good taste. We had a traditional osso buco, which was tender and delicious. And a tasteful pasta dish. The cappuccino as dessert is awesome with a lot of whipped cream. The owners are friendly and have quite some speed in handling the orders from visitors. So far we’ve visited several restaurants in Normandy. This is one of the better restaurants with a good price/quality ratio.

A pleasant surprise. Needed a meal before catching a ferry, so drove to the centre(ish) of town to see what was available at half past two in the afternoon. Spotted this place with a decent varied menu. We both wanted the same lamb dish, one with chips and one with pasta. Surprisingly they'd run out of pasta. So we both ended up with large plates of food. We both thought it vary tasty, and with one small and one large beer we're too ful for puddings!
