Café Jindrak in Linz is a delightful haven where you can escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. The cozy atmosphere invites you to unwind with a steaming cup of coffee alongside their delectable homemade cakes. Notably, they serve an impressive breakfast menu that caters to all tastes. A highlight here is the renowned Linzer Torte, which even has a vegan option for those who prefer it!
Amazing place 😍 Huge choice of sweets, including pastery and cakes 🎂 I really enjoyed my time there!!!
Petrica G — Google review
Had the famous Linzer torte here & the best part is it has vegan version too!! It’s a bit dry so pairing it with coffee / hot chocolate was a good idea! The interior of the cafe is adorned with beautiful paintings. It has 3 sections -sweet, piquant & café . The sweet section had a beautiful display of many cakes, pasteries & cookies which unfortunately we could not taste as they all had eggs in them . If u r a foodie n like to try local cuisine u can give it a shot.

Tried the famous Linzer Torte here. It was delicious with a hint of tartness. The selection of desserts and chocolate truffles is impressive. A cosy location with friendly staff. A must visit when in Linz!
Clarisa M — Google review
The stuff is unfriendly. The do NOT except the european vacination card. Only the PCR test. Not even an antigen test. Even if you sit outside. I would never advise it to anyone, or come here again. Cafes in the Inner Stadt are accepting the card, and even crowded McDonalds.

This historic venue boasts decor that feels like stepping back in time and features a menu filled with seasonal dishes that highlight local flavors.
Amazing location. Perfect to see Linz from its most beautiful side. Take the train up the mountain and enjoy the terrace. Staff at the restaurant we're top. Chatty, professional and helpful. Food was very tasty. Remember to make a reservation!

The stunning views and classy dining room are phenomenal. The food is some of the best I’ve ever eaten. The fried Sturgeon and risotto, there are no words to describe how wonderful. My wife had the chicken that was equally fabulous. Staff gave excellent recommendations on wine pairings. The host was so kind And made us feel welcome. If we ever return to Linz this will be our first stop. Definitely worth the trip.

We wereTraveling with a party of 4 in the city of Linz Austria .From the town square we looked up the mountain and saw a beautiful restaurant. We took the number 50 tram up the mountain and found the Schlossal Brau restaurant We were cordially invited inside and seated in a table with a gorgeous view of the Alps. Sofia our server was so unexpectedly courteous who then explained the menu and offered some suggestions all of which were fabulous We left the restaurant extremely satisfied and would certainly return

Amazing, breathtaking view, professional and very kind staff, even the manager came to ask if everything is alright. Inside is classic austrian castle, it was an honour to be there and look around. Food is great sort and quality.
Beáta D — Google review
This was a very pleasant experience, I don’t give out 5 stars normally but the food service and atmosphere were will worth of a Michelin star in this case, we had a wonderful time the view is stunning, the Kalb Steak and the Stör fillet was done to perfection, I can’t think of any reason you shouldn’t try this place if you’re visiting Linz.

I was there yesterday, I ordered truffle noodles and it was horrible. They just mixed noodles with cream and some small pieces of truffle. It was the most horrible food I have ever tried. The quality was low, and the price was very high. Doesn’t deserve.

Cafe
Breakfast restaurant
Café Traxlmayr, located in central Linz, is a historic Austrian café with an Art Nouveau facade that exudes turn-of-the-century charm. Established in 1847, it has become an institution known for its warm atmosphere and homemade delicacies such as Kaiserschmarrn and excellent coffee. The café offers a wide selection of over 100 international daily newspapers and weekly magazines for patrons to enjoy while having breakfast or lunch.
The best traditional interior design, good outdoor seating. All traditional food and pastries you’d want. Friendly staff. High quality
Florian W — Google review
Disappointing Experience – Poor Service and Unwelcoming Attitude I had a very disappointing experience at this cafe. The staff were neither polite nor helpful. I requested a wooden armless chair to sit outside because it was too hot inside, and I can’t use chairs with arms. However, the waitress responded curtly, saying, “This chair is for inside, you have to sit inside,” in a very dismissive tone. After finally sitting down, we waited a long time without any staff acknowledging us. Three waiters walked by multiple times without even glancing in our direction. Eventually, one waiter did stop to take our order, but his attitude was rude and arrogant. When I expressed my frustration about the chair issue and the long wait, he simply walked away without responding — which was incredibly disrespectful. We left the restaurant immediately after that. I would not recommend this place, especially to tourists. It seemed like the staff only cared about their local regulars, as they were happily chatting and smiling with people they appeared to know, while ignoring new customers like us.
Essam T — Google review
This cafe is in Linz 5 star for applestrudel desert . They do serve cold and hot applestrudel .Hot is served with bit of vanilla sauce and a bit of berries as decorations. The garden is beautiful and overlooks at some beautiful buildings APPLESTRUDEL IS the only reason I go there . You must try the hot one Other than that I find the cafe pricy
DAnila D — Google review
Passing by Linz, Austria on vacation,we stopped at Cafe Traxlmayr for their historic Linzer Torte. We were ignored by 3 surly waitstaff until even they could not ignore us any longer. The Torte was pretty good, yet they only provided utensils for 2 instead of the four of us.. (Even though we asked twice, in 2 different languages). They would not bring us coffee for all of us. Finally, we left without finishing. Seriously, we felt like we had entered the Twilight Zone. In all fairness, some locals seemed happily engaged but this is not welcoming for tourists. Tourists, be warned. Keep on driving. Avoid this establishment at all cost. One star is too generous.
Steve H — Google review
Just loved this place. Traditional, Viennese -style café. In fact we liked it so much, we visited three times in one day: coffee, lunch and afternoon tea/coffee.
Chris R — Google review
Café Traxlmyr in Linz, Austria may have a long history and charming setting, but unfortunately, the experience was far from good. We ordered a cappuccino with oat milk, and the taste was unpleasant — almost burnt and far too hot to enjoy. The hot chocolate was equally disappointing, with barely any flavor, just a weak mix of milk and sugar, and a pale color that didn’t look appetizing. The only positive note was the bread with cold cuts, which was fresh and quite good. Still, the overall impression is that the café doesn’t put much care into the quality of their drinks or the customer experience. Considering its heritage, this was a big letdown.
Ana M — Google review
The initial plan was the Little Dancer, but we didn't manage to get a table. Next time, I'll know better and make a reservation. So, spontaneously to Traxlmayr and thank the nice weather, sitting on the terasse was available. Real nice breakfast options and good coffee. I really liked the hummus. Friendly service also, despite the fact that the place was almost full. I recommended it.

I tried Linzer torte for the first time here and it tasted really nice. The coffee is good. The location is very cool with vintage design. Highly recommend this cafe.

Salonschiff Fräulein Florentine is a unique culinary spot in Linz, not just for its food but for its exceptional location. Moored just a short distance from the ARS Electronica Center on the banks of the Danube, this historic ship offers a relaxed atmosphere and stylish setting. Guests can enjoy coffee and cake on the open upper deck, lounging in beach chairs or sitting at beer tables under umbrellas.
Very cozy and relaxed ambient. I had a tasty apple crumble with a nutty flavor (I don't know what it was) and good coffee for less than 7€.

Exceptional place! Great, cozy atmosphere, excellent selection of beers and an impressive view of downtown Linz across the Danube. We invaded the place with a group of 10 people late on a weekend night, and it was a perfect place to be.

Best place in Linz for a refreshing drink or delicious toasts, or both. Food is great and home made. Best view of the river on the upper deck. A little rusted old ship, but that's the charm about it. At times it's very busy and self service makes it a bit hectic, but the overall experience is just great. PS: You must try their cakes. 👍🏽

Schadzi Cafe, located in the Domgasse, is a hidden gem offering oriental vegetarian and vegan cuisine with Persian and international influences. The cafe serves a daily changing lunch menu made with fresh ingredients, mostly vegan or can be prepared vegan upon request. On Saturdays, guests can enjoy a leisurely brunch at the cozy cafe. Additionally, Schadzi Cafe provides vegan catering for special occasions. The interior is cozy with beautiful wooden furniture and outdoor seating available.
Just had a delicious brunch here, where they offer breakfast/brunch on Saturdays. The garden is amazing, hidden from all the traffic and heat! But inside also is lovely with a lot of character, very tastefully done! I'm told they do lunch on weekdays and I'd definitely want to go back for that too. Very friendly efficient service.

Nestled in the heart of the city, Little Dancer am Graben is a charming breakfast spot that perfectly embodies my love for cozy and stylish minimalist cafes. With its inviting nooks and a diverse menu, this Melbourne-style café offers an array of wholesome brunch options crafted with care. The friendly owners, Theresa and Arron—a delightful Austro-Irish couple—have poured their hearts into creating this space, making it feel like a home away from home.
One of the best brunch spots in Austria! We got to Little Dance just 5 minutes before the kitchen closed, and still, the staff welcomed us with big smiles and great energy. Even though we ordered a lot, they were super friendly, helpful, and quick — everything came out fast and fresh. And the food? Absolutely amazing! Every single dish was delicious, but the French toast was on another level — so fluffy, flavorful, and just perfect. Honestly, this place is one of the best breakfast spots not just in Linz, but in the whole of Austria. Huge thanks to the whole team for the lovely service. It’s rare to find a place that gets both the food and the vibe just right. Definitely coming back again!❤️
Omar A — Google review
the breakfast tasting board was so delicious! the staff was so friendly and welcoming :) can’t wait to visit again
Amra — Google review
Friendly service, good food with nice selection of vegan options and also a garden, what else we need for the best brunch in town? Hint: their tasting breakfast board is absolutely recommended, but skip the coffee if you are more in the filter or lighter roast <3
Krisztina Z — Google review
It can be hard finding good vegan food in Austria at the best of times but Little Dancer does an exceptional job of getting hold of a vegan breakfast an absolute pleasure. The menu is clearly labelled with VG for vegan items and items labelled VGA when a vegan option is available. They substituted the eggs in the shakshuka for tofu and it was a sublime dish - highly recommend if you're after something savoury. If I had a second stomach I'd have ordered it again. Instead I topped off my meal with a fruity muesli with chia seeds - again top notch stuff. The waitresses were lovely too and spoke really good English. Sometimes you can tell when an establishment has a happy culture because of the positive presence of its people - that seemed to be the vibe I picked up here. From the very tasty food to the joyful service, this is a place you'll want to come to early or even reserve in advance because it gets busy (with good reason!). Keep on dancing Little Dancer! Highly recommended!
No T — Google review
Great food and nice place. Top marks for having pictures of puppies on the wall. 1 star off for the dukkah eggs being too firm in the middle and the coffee was not great. Fresh beans from a specialty roaster would elevate this cafes game to 5 stars!
Filly B — Google review
I eat at the Little Dancer every single time I am in Linz as often as possible. Every dish is as exceptional to enjoy as it is looks; fresh, piping hot, crafted with intentionality, and consistently good in the months I've been going here. The team here reliably delivers attentive service (the best I've had in Europe); it's fulfilling to support a business where the owners are hands-on, their passion radiating whether in the kitchen or front of house, and where returning customers are greeted with a genuine smile.
Jordan R — Google review
They have probably the nicest staff you’ll ever meet in Linz. Food and coffee was absolutely out of this world. You must come here at least once when you’re in Linz or nearby. 12/10 for everything, I highly recommend it. ♥️
Revnic L — Google review
Wonderful small place, with fantastic food, great staff and an awesome atmosphere. We turned up without a reservation on a Sunday morning but despite being full the staff were quick to find us some space sitting at the serving counter so we weren't left disappointed. The food quality was stunning with the cook staff not only producing great food, but the ingredients tasted fresh and the presentation was beautiful. I would highly recommend a visit, but ring ahead to avoid disappointment.

Konditorei Jindrak, a cherished establishment since 1929, is the ultimate destination for dessert lovers in Linz. Renowned as the birthplace of the iconic Linzer Torte, this café not only serves up this beloved pastry but also boasts an impressive selection of 33 truffle varieties and delightful brunch options. The atmosphere is steeped in history, making it a perfect spot to indulge in sweet treats like their famous vanilla cream-filled doughnuts while enjoying a cozy ambiance.
This was the place to try Linzertorte so definitely a must try. Went on a Saturday afternoon where the weather was shit on 14 Sep with rain and winter weather 8 deg so it wasn't crowded. Had the linzertorte which was good and also a black coffee. Service was good.

You can’t come to Linz and not try the oldest recorded tart recipe in the world! Home to the Original Linzer Torte, this is definitely worth trying. But be warned, it if a dry tart. Definitely order a beverage- they do a lovely Campari soda served in retro Campari glasses. They also do other cakes which are worth trying too - the peach cake (forget the name) was amazing. Service was good but this place was super busy on a Friday afternoon- lots of packed outdoor tables but inside in an adjoining room is loads more seating and mostly empty.

The original Linzer Torte (apparently!) in a relaxed / dated cafe setting with efficient staff who bordered on brusque! The torte is worth trying if you're visiting, although it's quite dry!

I was there around noon, and it was not crowded. I had a slice of traditional Linzer torte, which is an interesting cake worth trying once, but it's not really to my taste. A good espresso. Traditional old world cafe. Come here for Linz Cake and coffee. This cafe becomes very crowded as it is on the main square, but it is worth the noise. The service is prompt and very efficient.

Good to great quality food. The omelette is exceptional. The ice-cream based desserts were also good including Heiße Liebe and the Banana Split, both pictured here. The male staff were curt and at times rude especially when one as me outright for a 10% tip. I watched him with other customers and he appeared equally unpleasant. My advice to management is to either train your staff or get better male staff.
J — Google review
The toasted sandwiches were overpriced for the quality and presentation, moreover considering Linz is far from being a tourist hub. The waiter “Patrick” would benefit from being retrained in hospitality and friendliness, a quite an unprofessional and rude individual! Disappointed, as a visitor it only supports the reputation that Austrians are the rudest and most inhospitable people of the western world. 😔 Linz, very sad

Nestled in the heart of the city, Bäckerei Café Brandl is a delightful blend of modern charm and traditional baking. This cozy bakery offers an inviting atmosphere where you can savor a wide array of freshly baked goods, from flaky croissants to delectable nut pastries and apricot donuts. The friendly staff adds to the warm ambiance, making it an ideal spot for breakfast or brunch with friends and family.
Courteous service in English, pleasant smiling staff. The lunch sandwich was good. They have very nice breakfast combos, including yogurt and fruits. The Austrian pastries with poppy and nuts are well done. The French pastries look off, with croissants that seem a tad soggy. Stick with their specialty.

A cozy bakery with a variety of baked goods. You can enjoy a coffee in a relaxed atmosphere. The service is friendly! And possibly in English as well :)

Never taste a croissant and black coffee!!!! Very expensive for so horrible croissant!!! 2,10€!!!!!! Seriously?! It’s more than in Paris!!! Croissant with hut paste make from bread dough! Without milk you will feel all the acidity of the coffee!!! One star for bread - fine but nothing special for this price!!!
Julia O — Google review
Not the best coffee or cakes in this town. Cappuccino tasted as though it had UHT milk The tiramisu style puddings are stiff and stodgy, no delicacy here. Sorry guys

We visited early morning for breakfast. Great variety of baked goods. Amazing coffee. The staff was welcoming and accommodating.

Sunny quite place just out of the Main Street. Great place for breakfast a coffee or drink. Staff is very friendly to me. Coffee is great. Omelette with cheese vegetables and ham is a great start of the day.

Great spot for a quick bite and a drink. The menu is small but the desserts are amazing! Very nice that they serve during 2-5pm.

Eh.... the coffee is pre-ground and bland... Service is good, though.
Cristian H — Google review
We had breakfast outside. Seating is fine, enough shade provided by umbrellas. Looking out onto a big plaza in front of a church. We were unlucky since there was a huge amount of wasps and no countermeasures, but probably nothing that could easily be done anyways. But severely impacted the meal. No card payments, but a cash machine close by. Service was quite hit or miss. One of the service persons was obviously very new, nervous and forgot a lot. The other were friendly and more experienced.

The coffee was average. I didn't like the atmosphere in this old cafe, particularly for its low ceiling and the load noise! And I was unhappy about the fact that they didn’t have any vegan milk options 👎

Tea house
Breakfast restaurant
Located in the heart of Linz, Teesalon Madame Wu offers an extensive variety of high-quality, speciality teas alongside traditional Chinese dumplings. This unique place is great for experiencing a traditional Chinese ceremony, which is usually seen in weddings. The tea house is excellent and will be purchasing from their website again!
Delicious breakfast - take your time, order the "Reise zu Zweit" breakfast for two people and enjoy the morning with your loved one. Incredible selection of tea. You should also try out their Matcha and Chai! And if you are overwhelmed with the huge tea variety, just tell the service personal your favourite flavors and they will bring the perfect tea for you!
Benjamin S — Google review
As a local, it’s my favorite place in the Altstadt - coffee, matcha, amazing desserts and breakfast options. Sitting outside on a warm summer morning, watching people and drinking your favorite drink - Madame Wu is the best for that! As well as for all tea lovers. They have amazing collection of all varieties of tea, customer friendly menu that actually helps you to choose. And cozy interior inside with ancient Asian elements. Must visit 👏

Very nice place. There are a few tables outside. The service is friendly and attentive. There are sets for breakfast. On weekends it is better to book a table in advance. Of the minuses: a long waiting time for the order (the waitress warned about this and it is written about it in the menu).
Maria G — Google review
A pleasant and warm atmosphere ideal for those who enjoy a warm but unique cup of cha. The staff was friendly and willing to give recommendations. The beverages of our choice (a fig roiiboss and white/green blend) not only quenched our thirst but helped our busy souls to rest a little!

My favorite place to visit when in Linz. Great coffee and tea, tasty food. I've visited for breakfast as well for the English tea time and enjoyed both a lot. A reservation is recommended as the place is rather small. The tea shop is a dream come true. This year, I also had a chance to try the summer drinks. Both ice tea and ice coffee are perfect for a hot day.

This is honestly the best ice cream I know, including many of the top handcrafted ice cream shops throughout Vienna and Graz and whole of Austria, Thailand and Spain. You can honestly feel and taste the passion and consideration that goes into each new creation and existing flavours- it is fine dining in ice cream, honestly. You don't receive a scoop of ice cream, you'll get a rounded and fine-tuned flavour explosion experience, from the ingredients to the toppings. None of us can understand how the Eisdieler did not win Upper Austria's best ice cream award because it truly is! Highly highly recommended! Even their ice cream cones (the waffles) are homemade and taste and smell incredibly good, now they'll start a coffee shop nearby and we can't wait to try it out! 🍧🍦🍨☕❤️💕

Avoid: arrogant waiter. Nice ambiance for a dessert in Hauptplatz. However, there was a mistake in the bill as we were charged 6€ for tap water (!), and when asked, the old waiter corrected it but was unfriendly, impolite and arrogant. Avoid.

There are about 10 Cafes at the Main Square. Bruckner is the only that’s serving local beer from Upper Austria. All the others carry stuff from Heineken (or their austrian branch called Brau AG). With an impressive array of breakfast options ranging from hearty house specials to lighter fare like Birchermüsli and Berry-Porridge, there's something to satisfy every palate.
I've been here two times and I guess will come more often. A unique Café in this area with friendly personel, fast service, delicious and creative dishes as well as fresh cakes. As soon as we took the seat, they served us bottle of free tap water, which is very welcoming in my opinion.

I liked it, but there are better places. The inside is nicely decorated, and it looks nicer than the outside, where there are a few crowded tables on the sidewalk. The location is not exactly spectacular, either. It's just not my type of neighborhood. It took a while until our food arrived. Too long of a while for breakfast if you ask me. I was not impressed by the selection. Also, there is no fresh juice option. It's okay. Nothing went tremendously wrong, but I don't see myself visiting soon.

Very special place in Linz, especially for breakfast. I was coming to have this gourmet food experience, and I got it. But my husband not really. And there is one suggestion. You really have very nice dishes, and a great offer. But first of all, there is no English menu, and the waktors speaking English but couldn't care very much what we want, rather just please order what we have. We even open your official website , there was an English menu but it was not actual, and you were not up to that. It is really cool to have a pictures in your menu, because it really looks and tastes fantastic, and the client wants to be sure what we order, not only from theist of ingredients you have in menu. As a tip for other tourist, at least you can find a pictures of food at Instagram of other people and point out. That's how I did. The eggs Benedict with avocado are just a tasty bomb!

Excellent coffee and really good Tartlets. The outside area of the café was (understandably) packed when we arrived but it was a nice spring day, so we opted to plop on the stairs instead of sitting inside even though its super cozy there. I ordered a cold brew made with beans that were more on the acidic side, and the coffee had a fruity acidity but with quite a balanced acidity and a light mouthfeel. This place is a keeper at first sight. It's beautifully decorated and arranged, very pleasant for a coffee. However, it doesn't have many options for food, no savory stuff, and the staff was pressuring too much after I finished my meal. I went there because it was recommended to sit and work a bit, but certainly the place is not open to that. In that case, the big table doesn't make that much sense if everything you can do is drink a coffee. The cheesecake was good and the coffee was normal, not exceptional.
Valeria D — Google review
Beautiful cafe, lovely to sit both inside and outside. Amazing friendly staff, great fresh cakes and the best coffee in Linz! Would highly recommend.
Lachlan S — Google review
Linz coffee is quite terrible with just a few exceptions - this is one of them. They have 3rd wave coffee - flat white - cup sizes are typical Italian. They know how to steam the milk properly - micro foam. The roast is lighter and a bit more fruity than Italian roast. If you love typical Italian this is the closest you’ll get in Linz, if you love the lighter, fruity roasts this will probably satisfy you. The atmosphere here is great, service is friendly and nice. It’s a great place to get work done - WiFi is good, and it’s a very cozy place with both lounge style set ups for casual conversations and table, and hightop bar style for productivity. Some sweet treats available if that’s your thing.

If you are like me and searching for a mexican restaurant in the Area around Linz... There isn't really one. This nice cafe probably has the best tacos though if you're into that. The ice cream at Eis-Greissler is of excellent quality and offers a range of unique flavors. While some may find it pricey compared to other options, the friendly staff and great service enhance the overall experience. The sweet potato and paprika flavor might not be for everyone, but those willing to try something different will likely enjoy it. Despite occasional queues, the wait is worthwhile according to many customers. The goat cheese flavor stands out as particularly delicious among the various offerings.
I had a wonderful experience at this ice-cream shop! I tried the poppyseed and potato-caramel flavors—both were absolutely delicious and unlike anything I’ve tasted before. My friend went for dark chocolate and butter-biscuit, which were equally rich and satisfying. The staff were friendly and spoke English, which made the conversation easy and pleasant. Portion sizes were generous, and the prices felt very fair for the quality. If you're looking for something a bit different and full of flavor, I definitely recommend stopping by!

This place used to be much more expensive than regular ice cream shops, but with inflation, the prices are now almost the same. The quality, however, is significantly better. It's one of the only ice cream shops in Austria that I enjoy visiting. They offer unique and original flavors that I love. They have lots of vegan options too. It would be great if they had an online menu to show the available flavors at each location. Note: one time, I went there at 8:00 PM, but they had already closed at 6:00 PM, even though Google Maps indicated they should have been open. I’d appreciate a more reliable way for to update customers about opening hours.

(Translated by Google) Good selection of ice cream - but lack of cleanliness/hygiene We had an ice cream sundae there today. Priced around 10 to 12 euros per cup. It tasted quite good and looked appealing too. Extra requests were taken into account. The front interior looked nice too. However, as it later turned out, the cleanliness and hygiene left something to be desired. In the back area there were dead flies (probably for a long time) on the inside window sills. It stuck to the floor. But the highlight was when a guest ordered a waffle. This was first picked up by the waitress and then heated in the microwave. Then take it out of the microwave and put your bare hand on the waffle to check the temperature. A second waitress came along and also put her hand on the waffle (probably to check whether the waffle was good). No gloves or tongs were used, nor were hands washed beforehand. A no-go! If we had known that beforehand, we wouldn't have gone there. Ein No-Go! Hätten wircdas vorher gewusst, wären wir dort nicht hingegangen.

(Translated by Google) After waiting about 15 minutes for service outside the restaurant on the country road, I went inside and politely asked if we needed to order or if someone was coming. The answer: "Just a minute!" After another five minutes, we sat down directly across from the ice cream parlor. People looked at us, but no one came. When we still hadn't been served after another five minutes, even though it wasn't that busy, we were yelled at when I said that it was simply unacceptable to make customers wait so long. We went to Jindrak, where it was quite busy. Fast, friendly service, and the ice cream was also really good.

In Linz, a delightful new gem for ice cream enthusiasts has emerged: Surace Senza. This charming ice cream parlor invites visitors to relax and indulge in a wide array of delicious flavors and refreshing beverages. Whether you crave classic options like vanilla and chocolate or more unique creations, there's something to satisfy every palate. While it may not boast extravagant varieties such as apple strudel or black poppy, the high-quality standard flavors are both tasty and budget-friendly.
Currently the best ice cream in town. No shiny varieties like Apple Strudel or Black Poppy, but high-quality standard varieties that taste well and are inexpensive. This is my place to go for ice cream in Linz.

If you ask to be informed somewhere beforehand that cash payment is not possible, you will be informed. It is normal to pay in cash and not their responsibility. As a customer, you are “obligated to deliver”. As a customer you want to get something from them. Interesting logic. If you want good coffee and courteous service, I recommend Café Meier or the tannery next door. (Original) Schade. The barista team, led by the passionate Mario Benetseder, crafts each cup with dedication and expertise—especially their impressive V60 pour-over technique. While I haven't sampled the kitchen offerings yet, I've heard great things about them!
Specialty coffee spot Linz. We’ve visited the place several times, terrace on the side of the Botanical garden particularly nice - shady, cool and very peaceful. I would make a guess that gentlemen which was doing the v60 both times for me is somehow affiliated with the owner(or owner himself) which gives him a big credit, because he is very passionate about what he is doing and how he does it. Konditorei Preining is a delightful spot where you can indulge in exquisite pastries right at the café or take home some of their famous Linzer Torte. Many visitors rave about their experience ordering wedding cakes, highlighting the smooth process from consultation to delivery. The cakes are not only beautifully crafted but also deliciously satisfying. While enjoying your treats on-site is a pleasure, having the option to sample flavors before placing an order would be a fantastic addition for future customers!

(Translated by Google) We ordered a two-tiered cake (24 slices) from Konditorei Preining for the christening. For €180, we received a relatively tasteless cake made of sponge cake and buttercream. The smaller top cake was supposed to contain fresh raspberries in addition to the Raffaello cream. Unfortunately, the latter was completely missing. The icing was also cracked in some places and poorly applied. All in all, a huge disappointment and not a masterpiece of pastry art. Other Linz pastry shops, such as Konditorei Jindrak, do much better for almost the same price, and above all, with more flavor and higher-quality ingredients.

Price: it will not be charged as advertised. A cake at 4.40 was written off (it's already expensive enough and even more so because it didn't taste good (old cake)) The price when paying was then 5 euros per piece. An impudence! This should have been pointed out. We find 2 cakes and an extended one at 2.30pm quite intense. (Original) Schon länger nicht mehr dort gewesen, aber auch nie wieder. Nestled in the heart of Linz, k.u.k. Hofbäckerei Café is a delightful journey into Austria's rich culinary history, dating back to 1371. As one of the oldest bakeries in the country, it proudly upholds family traditions through its fifth-generation master baker who continues to craft time-honored recipes.
A very pleasant cafe. It's like going back to the last century (chairs, tables, photos on the walls). The staff is friendly, speaks excellent English and is ready to help with the choice. There are different variations of breakfasts. The pastries look fresh! You can pay with both a card and cash.

Very authentic: no cookie-cutter cafe with a scandinavian interior serving flat-whites. The pastry selection was brilliant, a must visit for people who want to get a bite of linzer torte and austrian pastry in general. On the other hand, I believe the interior should get renovated sooner rather than later, its all a little gloomy and dated.

The best restaurant for breakfast and lunch, with on site bakery and a delicious coffee. Very efficient service, absolutely wonderful staff makes a visit here an amazing experience. I whole heartedly recommend the Emperors’s breakfast (Kaiserfrustuck) with a glass of bubbly. There is a seating area outside, but the inside decor in the era of emperor Franz Josef I persuaded us to enjoy the interior seating. Some staff speaks english, credit cards accepted, clean bathrooms on the premises.

Very good pastry, coffee, beside the history lesson hanged on the walls... 😀
Florin I — Google review
The service was terrible. Even if the food was good, they did not make us feel welcome. At all. They acted like we were an inconvenience. They list their closing time at 18.30 but when me and my elderly parents arrived at 17.40 the waitress doesn't even greet us but just says "We're closing in 20" like she wanted to discourage us from sitting down. But then other clients arrived at 17.55 and another couple even at 18.05 and they all got to seat and eat, so the place wasn't really closing at 18, she just wanted us to leave? But it doesn't stop there. We stepped inside to take a look at the desserts in the window. We ask the waitress if she can explain what they have left and she replies "what you see there". If I knew what kind of desserts they were I wouldn't be asking. Finally, I asked for a drink that requires whipped cream and she says "we ran out", so I said I was fine to have the same drink without the whipped cream, she asked me to repeat like that wasn't an option. In the end it turned out they did have some whipped cream left, once again it looked like she initially wanted to discourage me from ordering it because it was a slightly complicated drink to make. Or at least that was my impression after the very poor overall treatment. I wonder if they weren't that famous if they could afford to treat their clients like this? I would honestly recommend trying Jindrak instead of this one.

I'm unabashedly an American, so when I was able to sit down at a cafe that's existed longer than my country has existed, it's a wild experience. Beautiful interior, and located far enough off the main strip so as to not be overly noisy should you sit outside.

Surace is a delightful destination for ice cream lovers, where the quality of their desserts truly shines. The gelato and ice cream served here are nothing short of exceptional, making it easy to overlook the price tag once you take that first delicious bite. The staff is friendly and efficient, ensuring a pleasant experience even during busy times. While seating could be more accessible and some amenities like bathroom lighting might need attention, these minor issues don't overshadow the overall enjoyment.

This is an exceptional establishment that offers a fantastic service. I recently went there to get a cup of ice To Go and was impressed by the owner's hospitality. Despite there being no available benches nearby, the owner kindly invited me to use their tables and even assisted with carrying my things. This kind gesture prompted me to take a break and order some drinks, which were served promptly by the attentive staff.
This is what I call an excellent service! We went just for a cup of ice To Go. When the owner saw that there were no benches free nearby he has invited us on the tables. And also helped us with the stuff we were carying. With such an invitation we have decided to take a break and ordered some drinks. Everyone was very helpful. The ice cream is wonderful. Apparently there is a new owner (not Surace) and you can tell that he is doing his best to satisfy the clients. Can't wait to come again and also visit his pizza restaurant "Fratelli La Torre OG".
Y N — Google review
As soon as you finish (in 15-20 mins.) the ice cream/caffee/drink, the waiter cleans the table and keeps asking for eating and drinking anything else. This is being repeated every few minutes. It seems to be very hard to enjoy it if you plan to stay more than 30 mins. The ice cream itself is ok, but the service sucks.
Sabri N — Google review
Sadly they are selling something else then what are they advertising and then when you ask for an explanation as you pay almost 11 euro for a ice cream they are saying that they are never making like what they advertising and most sadly according to them their boss knows all this and this is how they are supposed to sell their ice cream . If you are ready to pay 11 euro for an a icecream then never expect to get what you ordered as you can see in the photos .

Disgusting service and rather average desserts. The waiter was extremely unfriendly and acted arrogant. First, he brought us not what we ordered. When we brought this to his attention, he, in turn, condescendingly chuckled and left, no apologies followed. The dessert that they served us was noomal, but the terrible attitude of the staff spoiled not only our mood, but even the taste of the dish.
