Bakery
Takeout Restaurant
Restaurant
Bricolage Bread & Co. is a relaxed cafe and bakery located near Roppongi Hills in Tokyo, offering artisanal French bread, international snacks, and coffee. The establishment consists of a take-out bread and pastry section, a coffee counter run by Fuglen, and a cozy cafe with outdoor seating under shady sakura trees. The collaboration between a chef, baker, and coffee roaster ensures high-quality ingredients sourced directly from farmers in various regions of Japan.
An old time favorite in Roppongi. This bakery café is great for a quick carb pick-me-up or a leisurely lunch. Bricolage is quite popular so the bakery items are variable depending on demand - it's recommended to go before lunch for the best selection. This latest visit was for lunch – everything is extremely fresh and I would highly recommend the salad, fried chicken and shredded carrots. I’ve also had the Wagyu cheeseburger in the past and it was scrumptious. For my fellow travelers – if you are planning to dine-in, go to the counter to the left of the column to order food and drinks. they will hand you an electronic beeper and then you go into the next room to pick up your food when ready. You also wait for your coffee drinks in front of the coffee bar. The register to the right of the column is for to-go bakery items.

We queued for about 50 minutes, so naturally, I was expecting the food to be mind-blowingly good—something truly worth the wait. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. The overall experience felt a bit average, like something you could easily get at other Western-style cafés. Their signature dishes were decent, but nothing particularly amazing or memorable. The chicken karaage, however, was a standout—crispy, juicy, and flavorful—definitely something the Japanese do exceptionally well. The cacao drink was a bit too sour for my taste, and the dark rum coffee had only a very mild coffee flavor, which was underwhelming. The pudding is also average, and the brown sugar tastes a bit bitter... In summary, it’s a nice café, but only if there’s little to no queue. Otherwise, it feels like a bit of a letdown and not really worth such a long wait.
Ian L — Google review
This place is a bit confusing. It's hard to order pastries and then sit down and eat them. The ordering counter for meals (burgers, sandwiches) is at a different place than the ordering counter for pastries, but we wanted to eat pastries in the restaurant. It feels like decisions need to be made very quickly and there's little explanation of how that should happen properly. It's almost just 2 shops in the same building, where the pastry counter has no menu and you just have to take pictures of what's available if you need time to think. I think we waited about a half hour to order (which was reasonable). The pastries were pretty good/okay. I don't think there's enough butter in all of Japan to actually rival French pastries, so that should not be your bar if you're going here. We tried several different pastries and the best were the financiers and the sausage dog imo. That said, the cafe latte and the brown sugar dessert option were freaking phenomenal. I would definitely go back for those, but not really anything else. The burger was juicy, but mostly drowned in ketchup and too sweet.

May 2025: Visiting from the United States and stayed at the Grand Hyatt nearby. Workers are very friendly. Found this bakery that had amazing coffee and baked goods nearby. Coffee was fabulous with wonderful tasting notes 🎶. I normally add oat milk instead of cream. The restaurant had oat milk as an upgradeable option.👍 My favorite baked goods were the bread 🍞 and the raisin roll. Also tried the avocado 🥑 toast. Stayed at the hotel for six nights and this place was my go-to for coffee and breakfast. Probably stopped by for coffee, pastries and/or bread six different times. On the last day of my vacation, I tried a "pain perdu" which was so delicious. Reminds me of a french toast... And I looked up the name and it's literally french toast 😀. Aside from the delicious bread, this is my new favorite! Will definitely come back again when I am in Tokyo again!
Ken W — Google review
One of the most popular bakery shop in the area, lots of people were queuing pf a seat. For take out, no need to wait. I waited for 20mins for a seat, then ordered. This is my third time here, every menu was delicious, especially the bakery. Coffee is ok. Salad and bread are the best
Chan T — Google review
Came on a Saturday morning around 11:00 am. There was already a line and the staff said it would be around a 20 minute wait for a party of 2. It ended up taking closer to 30. You order from the register and there’s separate ones for the bakery side and food. We ordered the jerk chicken bagel and the eggs Benedict toast. The toast was delicious, and the bagel was also solid. A little pricey but it’s a nice ambiance and good location if you’re around Roppongi hills. Also got a sourdough to go, which was delicious.
Sydney F — Google review
The service attitude is bad: the ordering flow was so strange, you have to walk against the flow to check the pastry section after taking the number in another entry. After waiting a while to get a table, I have to walk back to make the order AND the clerk asked me serval times if I have a seat to dine in. I showed her my number ticket and told her I already have one table, then she seemed not believing me and asked me to point out where exactly my seat was. I was traveling solo, how can I put my purse in the outside table and walk back inside to make the order?! Of course I have to carry my purse around, and that does not mean that I don’t have a seat, especially I already told her many times that I already have one seat! Back to the croissant: just average. Crispy but not airy. The dark rum latte is good.

Cake shop
Shochikuen Cafe is a cozy spot that offers a variety of Taiwanese bubble teas, delectable cakes, and Western-style vegan snacks. The cafe's signature rainbow cake is a major attraction, but they also serve other tempting treats like tiramisu and strawberry shortcake. For those craving something savory, the menu features options such as new-kuman (steamed bun) and burgers with extras like chickpea tempeh or smoked soy meat.
Found this gem online and I was so excited to get to try so many baked goodies that are both GF and vegan!! This place exceeded my expectations - I tried the matcha latte, rainbow cake, matcha/adzuki muffin, chai muffin, packaged cookies, and monte blanc cake - they were all amazing!!! This is one of the places I miss most after leaving Japan, everything was delicious, reasonably priced, and so unique. I can't wait to come here again on my next trip. Thank you for making such amazing gluten free/vegan food!!
Grace R — Google review
Fun little vegan and gluten-free cafe. The staff working were friendly and kind. It is a small place and the serves are to the smaller side, too. Maybe more of a snack and treat spot I’d say. We came for lunch and had a pizza and burger plus cake and smoothies and drinks and weren’t full after. The rainbow cake looks beautiful, but wasn’t too flavorful. Tiramisu was more enjoyable. Great alternative cafe if on the search for gluten-free and vegan or dairyfree sweat and savory treats!
Lydia C — Google review
Flavours were nice but very simple and the burger was actually very small. I was still quite hungry after. It’s a cool concept but I think a little more variety would have been great, especially of the savoury options. Overall I enjoyed it
Saskia S — Google review
I really enjoy my time here! I’ve gone twice and love getting a snack and dessert here. Though the rainbow cake is the most popular items I think their other desserts such as the tiramisu or cupcakes are better! Most visit if you’re a vegan in Tokyo!
Kristia P — Google review
I stopped by Shochikuen Café for a quick vegan bite before heading to Sensō-ji Temple, and it definitely has some charms. The location is easy to find and convenient if you’re already exploring Asakusa. The shop itself is quite small, but the atmosphere is friendly, and the staff were genuinely cute and welcoming. A definite plus: they have a bathroom available, which is always appreciated when you’re sightseeing. Food-wise, my experience was mixed. I grabbed a vegan pizza slice, but it was very small, and unfortunately the crust was still a bit frozen. It was firm enough that it actually aggravated my TMJ a little, not what you want from a quick snack. I also tried the rainbow cake. It looked lovely and colorful, but the taste didn’t quite live up to the presentation; the cake itself was dry, and the cream, while fluffy, was mostly just sugar and air. I also found it a bit on the pricey side. Overall, Shochikuen Café is cute and convenient with kind staff, but the vegan options I tried felt more like style over substance. It works for a quick stop, but I’d love to see the food quality improved to match the charm of the place.

Bakery
Kandagawa Bakery is a hidden gem located in a quiet residential neighborhood near Waseda. Despite its unassuming appearance, this bakery attracts locals and visitors alike with its freshly baked goods, including sweet and savory breads featuring ingredients like raisins, matcha, red bean paste, and cheese. The bakery's seasonal sourdough loaves and rustic breads are particularly popular, known for their dark crust and earthy taste.
It seems to be a very popular bakery so I had to check it out. We got an anko salty bread and soy milk campagne bread. The first one was good but the soy milk bread took me by surprise. Such a nice chewy texture and an amazing taste. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED it! I was also surprised that it was relatively not that expensive.
Daria P — Google review
A very nice storefront on a quiet street was a perfect place for mid-afternoon snack. Friendly staff made great recommendations. Most importantly, the bread was fantastic!
Peter M — Google review
Okay, this place is the real deal. Went there about 3 pm on a Sunday in June. It is a window ordering place with maybe two small tables and chairs if you want to eat there. The prices are on the higher end. Around 350 yen for each baked good. I guess the price does not deter the loyal customers. While this may not rise to the level of ambrosia, it is definitely top-tier. It is near a university and may also attract college students. Anyhow, worth a visit as you can't go wrong.
David Y — Google review
Truly delicious bites! Discovered this place when walking along the Kanda River and searching for a snack. Bacon roll, bacon epi bread, and cream cheese raisin mini pain de campagne. All were excellent, I wished I'd bought more for tomorrow's breakfast. For good, fresh, handmade breads the price is really good as well, about 250 yen per piece. Good luck finding that around Shibuya or Shinjuku.

Restaurant
Asakusa Kagetsudō is a renowned bakery in Asakusa, Tokyo, known for its delectable creme-filled "melonpan" sweet buns and traditional Japanese confections. The establishment has been serving these delightful treats since 1945 and is famous for sparking the specialty "Asakusa melon bread." Additionally, visitors can savor ice cream and shaved ice with various toppings at this cozy venue.
If you love melon and bread, this is a bakery you definitely shouldn’t miss when visiting Asakusa. Start by trying their plain melon pan, then go for the one with ice cream. The outside is crispy, while the inside is soft and fluffy — it’s delicious on its own, but even better when you try it with ice cream inside. It’s one of those fun and tasty experiences you really have to try. The prices are affordable, and even though the line can be long, they serve customers quickly so the wait isn’t too bad.
Andro C — Google review
just walking NEAR this stall front is heaven for melon pan/pineapple bun lovers — the sweet, signature, sugary aroma of the bread entices everyone walking by. compared to pineapple buns, i found that the melon pan was much softer and floppier/limper(?) than a pineapple bun. as well as that, the top was crispier/crunchier than a typical pineapple bun’s, which is usually very crumbly. i loved how the matcha ice cream wasn’t too sweet at all, with its perfectly bitter notes of green tea complementing the sugary top of the melon pan. the soft serve was also extremely creamy, and the coolness of the ice cream contrasted well with the warm, fresh, fluffiness of the bun. although it didn’t completely blow me away, and i think i still prefer pineapple buns, this was extremely satisfying and filling. also don’t be intimidated by the line, it moves EXTREMELY quick, since a lot of people are just getting the melon pans and not the ice cream (although you might have to wait a bit if you want ice cream, since they do it one by one and it’s quite slow).
Katelynn C — Google review
Tried the matcha flavored melon bread. There was a short queue but it moved very fast so there was no wait. The bread was fresh warm out of the oven and super crispy. It was a nice contrast to the colder matcha ice cream. A bit pricey but the bread was quite big and I miss eating this.
YQ L — Google review
Fantastic bread shop. Melon bread was large and had plenty of different filling options to choose from. We chose the Matcha and Whipped cream filling options. Also grabbed some for the trip home and just to snack on random days of our trip. 300y for a plain bread, and something like 600-800y for other filling options. Popular place and wait times were short despite having a long wait line.
Hei S — Google review
We ordered one normal Melon bread and one with matcha ice cream. Both tasted really good, especially the one with ice cream, because the bread itself is quite dry inside, so the ice cream makes it taste more moist plus you will have some of the matcha flavour as well. Definitely one of the better ones I had in Japan if you also have a sweet tooth like me 😜🍦
D. C — Google review
This is a must try and highly recommended if you are going to do a food crawl along Asakusa area or just looking for a light snack. The bread has a crunchy outer layer with the right amount of sweetness. Then the inside is light and airy which is contrast to its exterior. You can have it as is or with soft serve icecream in its center. There will be another queue if you opt for the latter.
Miguel M — Google review
We tried the vanilla ice cream melon pan and it was way better than we were expecting! Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and not too sweet. Line was long but it moves super fast.
K B — Google review
Definitely worth it!!!!! It was delicious, and it’s very cheap (one single bread 300 yens). We tried single and with vanilla ice cream, different experience but both amazing!

Bakery
Pelican is a modest, long-standing bakery that has been operating since 1942, known for its simple yet delicious offerings of white bread and rolls. Despite its limited menu, the bakery sells an impressive number of loaves and rolls due to their exceptional quality. The white bread is particularly renowned for its slightly crusty exterior and soft interior, making it a versatile choice for various pairings such as homemade chicken curry.
Last year, I also visited a Pelican cafe and had toasted toast. This year, I went to buy bread. I wanted to buy the smallest piece (500 yen) since it was a solo trip, but the only piece of bread I could buy was 1.5 pounds (750 yen). I had no choice but to buy the 1.5 pounds, but it's a shame I can't get the bigger one anymore. As soon as I got back to Korea, After that, I baked bread without adding anything, and made toast by soaking up eggs. All are wonderful. I only have three pieces left in the fridge, which is heartbreaking.
JU N — Google review
the shokupan with ham katsu was surprisingly good and so was toast with butter. as they make each serving by table, you'll have to wait awhile even after ordering.
Ian P — Google review
Nice beard. Need to make a reservation for more options. Simple but good bread.
C C — Google review
There are 3 types of loaf pans: 3斤, 2斤, and mountain shaped. 3斤 is the softest, 2斤 is more chewy, and mountain shaped has the crispy shell. Pelican also has those little ones in bag, which all share same texture. In terms of taste, there’s no different. So, here’s my way to toast the 3斤 loaf bread. Instead of slicing it nicely with bread knife, tear it with hand in large pieces. Then toast it for 2 minutes. Edges will be slightly cured, depend on sizes. Because of the high density, after toasting, the mix texture of chewy and crispy is just beautiful.

Bagel shop
Bakery
Maruichi Bagel is a bagel specialty shop in Tokyo, inspired by the famous New York bakery 'Ess-a-Bagel.' The female owner fell in love with New York-style bagels and opened this simple setting shop. The bagels are made by letting the dough proof, boiling it, and then finishing it in the oven to achieve a crispy exterior and soft, chewy interior.
Bagels are freshly baked and there are constant customers coming in and going out. One bagel is fairly huge and chewy. Cream cheese filling is generous. There are plenty of options to consider including whole wheat and rice bagels. Limited seating and accept card. Quite a walk from Shimbashi Station.
Lily R — Google review
I stumbled upon this bagel shop after strolling around the area. Staff was very welcoming. At noon there were few customers, no line. I ordered freshly baked cinnamon and raisin bagel with raisin walnut soy cream cheese and jamon Serrano ham. They accept cash and cards. I waited for my order around 5 minutes. The place is quite small, only 5 seats available indoor. And few more seats outdoor. The bagel was huge and I almost couldn’t finish them. Everything perfectly goes together. The bagel was crisp and chewy (but not for long if you don’t finish them quick enough. I would recommend to stop by this place.

Welcoming staff and delicious bagels! Thankful it opens early compared to most food spots. I had the garlic bagel with salmon and enjoyed every bite.
Sidra C — Google review
ı am in search for a NY style 🥯 and found this shop that offers their own unique twist — literally. They’re hand-twisted into beautiful shapes, giving them a distinctive look and texture. One of the highlights for me was the germinated brown rice bagel. It’s not something you come across often, and it was surprisingly tasty — definitely more flavorful than the whole wheat option. I also tried a small plain bagel to get a sense of the base flavor, and it held up really well. I also picked up a sesame bagel— I enjoyed it with watermelon and cheese, one of my favorite summer combos, especially with sesame bagels. Their sesame bagel was gooood 🤩. The sandwiches you see in the photos are actually my own variaton, but the bagels themselves are from here — and they turned out great. If you’re open to trying a creative, local twist on the traditional bagel, this place is worth checking out!
Elif B — Google review
Such a cute bagel place hidden away! The bagels were super soft and flavoursome, and the workers were super warm and friendly. I got the everything bagel with saba salad, and a blueberry bagel with cream cheese. Both 10/10. I love that the everything bagel has chunks of rock salt baked into it 🥯

Love their bagels 🥯 BiG and warm 🤤 Came here at 11:30 and 3 out 4 bagels were still warm 😙 Surprised how BIG they are Only wish they had strawberry cream cheese !! Came here before around 1-2pm and they sold out so be careful

I’ve been a huge fan of MARUICHI BAGEL ever since they opened in Yoyogi Uehara. Their bagels always remind me of authentic NYC style bagels and the way they make their sandwiches. I’m always impressed by the quality! The staff are friendly and polite, though it might take a little time to choose your bagel they have so many great options. Highly recommended!

Bakery
Beaver Bread is a cozy bakery located in Higashi Nihonbashi, offering a variety of homemade pastries and artisanal bread. Despite its small size, the bakery boasts an abundant selection of Japanese-inspired treats such as melonpan, naporipan, ciabatta, caneles, and chunky sausage subs. The consistent queue outside the bakery attests to the high quality of its offerings. Visitors are recommended to arrive early to have their pick from the diverse selection.
Very great bakery, highly recommended trying their freshly baked walnut bread rolls. They have attention to detail and really make all their baked goods with lots of love and care. You can pick up your rolls and sweets with some tongs and put them on your tablet. Afterwards you go to the checkout with the selection. Went to this bakery twice when I was in Tokyo. Was amazing!

Overall, it's just satisfactory, but it's not worth the long wait in my opinion, especially if you're not nearby. Traveling specifically for this shop might not be that worth it. The quality of the bread can be inconsistent, depending on which type you choose. I visited twice and bought 6 pieces in total. 1 of them (ie the jalapeno one) is very good , another 3 are just okay. 3 of them are quite disappointing in my opinion including the cake, the mentaiko (めんたいこ) one and the pistachio one.

Incredible bakery. The smell brings you right in! Everything tasted fresh and handmade with care. The croissants and red bean bread were especially good — flaky, buttery, and worth the line. One of those small places that just nails quality.

Bread and bakeries lovers, here is your spot that will bring you assured quality with taste. Their bakery products are well prepared and nicely presented. The bakery is relatively limited in space but great in capabilities. For note and to assure suitable shopping experience, at the time I visited the number of concurrent shoppers was limited to a maximum of Four (4) persons at a time. Thanks to the great welcoming and the evident team work.

I am from France and after 2 months of Japan, i was craving for Bread 🥖 🤣 so i checked on google map and found Beaver Bread. I did a homemade custom sandwich 🤣 was super good! I love it, almost cried.. Anyway, good bread! Thank you!

Loved it here! It’s take out only. I wish we could warm up the sandwiches. My fav was this butter, anko sandwitch☺️everything else was good, not top tier tho.
Lyra A — Google review
Loved the spicy nut scone. The heat left a great taste. A bit on the drier side, best warmed up to moisten it I think. The sourdough and white bread were good, white bread especially - dense and with a firm bite, great for sandwiches. Deifnitely want to toast both. Cornbread is savory, would be perfect with more butter or some sweet spread. Cornbread and the not overly sweet scone seem worth going out of the way for. Also a bunch of other good looking things here even at 4pm. Also really nice looking pricy jams, I'll have to try in the future!

March, 2023 If you're in the mood for delicious bread, Beaver Bread in Higashi Nihonbashi is a great option. The bakery is small, cozy, and has a friendly atmosphere that will make you feel right at home. The bakery offers an impressive variety of bread, ranging from classic red bean buns to unique and inventive large campagnes. There's also a rotating menu of seasonal bread that adds something new for returning customers. March, 2023 The quality of the bread is exceptional, with each loaf and bun baked to perfection using high-quality ingredients and traditional techniques. You can taste the dedication and care put into each product, which has made Beaver Bread a beloved neighborhood bakery.

Bakery
Frau Krumm is a charming bakery in Japan founded by former tennis player Kimiko Date-Krumm. Inspired by her love for German bread during her European tours, she decided to bring the flavors of Germany to Japan. The bakery offers a variety of delicious German baked goods with a blend of culinary influences from France and Japan. While the main focus is on hearty rye bread, they also serve sandwiches, pastries, and drinks.
A small and lovely bakery. German bread is the mainstay but sandwiches, pastries and drinks are also delicious. We can eat only 5 seats in the shop. The impression of the clerk was good, and the explanation of the item was easy to understand. It is very recommended.

What a delicious pastry! Finally, "coffee to go" was not filled with boiling water and could be drunk during a walk. Buns and rolls are very tasty, really good recipe. The cafe is small and cosy, and the baker bakes here with a soul. Thank you!

Best German Bread „Mischbrot“ we found so far in Tokyo. The „Walnuss-Honig-Brötchen“ are amazing, too. The price for Brötchen, Cake etc is actually not that bad but the price for bread is hefty (however - if you have cravings probably worth it). We‘ll be back :)

Small but a good place for bread and coffee. Their pretzel was great.
Maria N — Google review
Small and decent German bakery by Japanese famous professional tennis player Kimiko Date. You can enjoy authentic pretzels and other German bread. I also love their fresh salad.

Decent German bread selection. Not comparable with the real deal however. Pretzels are small and not very fresh. Taste wise ok.

Biossa is a trendy bakery in Japan, known for being the first GFCO-certified bakery in the country. Their gluten-free baguettes are remarkably similar to traditional ones. The bakery strictly adheres to gluten-free practices and offers a variety of treats including colorful bagels and deli-style sandwiches. Additionally, they offer an extensive menu featuring loaves of bread, bagels, mini pizzas, and desserts available for take-away or delivery through Uber Eats.
It is so difficult to find gluten free options in Japan. This store has so many great options of sweet and savory. Berry and chocolate muffins, berry bread, regular bread, garlic bread. So many options!! The little cream breads with a honey glaze are ESPECIALLY delicious once they’re toasted. I will be coming here a lot.

I’m a gluten free traveler so I was very excited to see there was a gluten free bakery in Tokyo. I made a 40 min journey to it and it was so worth it. All the bread was delicious and I even got a free bun hot from the oven!! The sweet bread with the powder sugar in top was my favorite followed by the chocolate chip muffin.
Zeta H — Google review
Biossa in Tokyo is a true gem. Their pastries are absolutely excellent! As someone who is wheat-intolerant, I had never had the chance to enjoy bread this soft and delicious before. The pain perdu is my absolute favorite—rich, perfectly sweet, and comforting. The cinnamon brioche-like pastry is also incredibly tasty, and even their pizzas are full of flavor and perfectly baked. On top of that, the staff is very kind and welcoming. The prices are also very reasonable, which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. I’ll definitely be coming back often whenever I return to Tokyo! Thank you for your work!

If you have coeliac disease it is not always easy to find something to eat. I was very happy to find this delicious bakery. Everything was very tasty and cheap! Absolute recommendation!!🥳

Best GF bakery (there’s only two other places I can think of in Tokyo and one in Paris that are on my top list)… I tried nearly everything, all of the savory items (except for the corn tuna) and the French toast (insanely good), and every single one was perfect. I cannot believe they achieved such goodness with rice flour!
TGIF — Google review
I’m from LA and not had gluten free bread this soft and delicious. The selection of bread was fantastic too. Thank you!

Saved our trip! My son is gluten free, and Japan (largely) is not. It was very hard to find food for him, and other gluten free shops either weren’t really gluten free, or just tasted bad, had very small menus, or were closed when they said they were open. But Biossa had exactly what we needed. Good, fresh, delicious gluten free bread, muffins, baguettes, and croissants! That way we could pack and carry the breads around Tokyo, so my son could eat almost anywhere (by swapping out the provided breads with these gluten free ones). Game-changing. Thanks Biossa!

Vegetarian cafe and deli
Gluten Free T’s Kitchen is a haven for those seeking gluten-free and allergen-friendly dining options. The entire menu is completely gluten-free, with additional offerings that cater to nut, dairy, egg, and soy allergies as well as vegan preferences. Inspired by a childhood surrounded by exceptional cooking and a desire to provide more gluten-free choices after experiencing limited options in Japan compared to the U.S.
As a coeliac travelling Japan, this restaurant was a true gem! We had the most delicious gluten free meal and I was so happy to be able to try traditional Japanese food but GF! It was a great atmosphere, well priced and my family loved it too despite not being gluten free. Thank you T’s Kitchen, I hope to come back soon ❤️ Also best pop in to make a reservation before hand. We went in 2 hours prior to when we wanted to eat and they accommodated us fantastically.

Absolutely LOVED the food- especially the fried chicken! I went with two non-celiac individuals and they couldn’t tell the difference between the gluten free foods and the gluten foods they’ve been eating throughout Japan! I am a newly diagnosed celiac and still learning how to manage but I had absolutely NO reactions and loved my experience- also there were other celiac individuals there who were so nice to talk to. Highly recommend!
Tabitha F — Google review
First, you should know this place is quaint. There are 11-13 bar seats and 4 tables; 2 that seat 4, and 2 that seat 2. I say this first because it can get loud, depending on your table mates. We sat next to a table of 2 very loud talkers and it negatively affected our overall experience. This has nothing to do with the food or service, which were both amazing. If you don't enjoy small or loud spaces, consider ordering your meal to go. A cold, gluten-free beer after walking around the city in the August heat was so refreshing. The service was fantastic. Our waitress was very attentive and accommodating. The food was amazing. I haven't had tempura vegetables or dumplings since I went gluten free 7 years ago and it was seriously worth the wait. The fried chicken was to die for. I also ordered a bowl of chicken ramen. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but still yummy. This is a must-stop for anyone who is gluten free!

So thankful to have this place. As someone with celiac disease I was terrified about eating in Japan. We have eaten here for every meal and our kids who don’t have to eat gluten free have loved it as well. Great chicken, spring rolls, dumplings, and more! Thanks for paving the way to have more safe places to eat in Asia. Much appreciated!

A true gem for gluten free food in Japan! This was my favourite gluten free restaurant of our whole trip. I got to try food I had been wanting to try but hadn’t been able to. I was in heaven! As a coeliac this place made me happy. And the food is great! And there’s a wide variety. Could not recommend more. It’s better to book in advance if you can! Enjoy

This restaurant is an oasis for gluten-free and allergen-friendly needs. We were able to eat here safely without worry of wheat or peanut cross-contamination, so we are highly pleased. We went to this restaurant two years ago and there is another location in Ueno now as well which has breakfast and lunch options as well. Thank you!

Bakery
Cafe
Centre The Bakery, located in the bustling Ginza area near Tokyo Station, is a popular spot known for its coveted shokupan loaves. Managed by VIRON, this bakery specializes in sandwich bread and offers three types of breads for purchase. The Kakushoku-pan made with Hokkaido flour is particularly beloved for its soft and chewy texture. Visitors can also indulge in the springy Puru Man and crispy Igirisu Pan loaves.
There are two line ups, one is for take out and the other is for dine in. Make sure you line up at the right spot because I didn’t 😣. I ordered the 3 toast with jam and butter. It cost a whopping 2000¥. How good can toast be? I was so skeptical at first but let me tell you, it was amazing. They only had two types of bread first thing in the morning, NA and JP which is North American and Japan respectively. You get to pick a toaster to toast your bread and the server told me to toast the NA bread and eat the JP bread as is. I always like my bread toasted but I have to say the JP bread untoasted was my favourite! I would pay another 2000¥ to eat it again! It was so soft, fluffy and the edges were crispy. They gave me 3 types of high quality butter and 4 different types of jam, white chocolate and honey. I ate everything with a big smile. Only problem was that I ordered 2 toast jam/butter set and I wanted to try the cheese toast too but my server said it was too much food. So I changed my order to 3 toast jam/butter set. I think he underestimated how much I could eat. It does give me a reason to go back though. Give this place a try it’s definitely delicious.

I’ve been here a few times since 2020 and it never misses! It went viral on tiktok one or two years ago? So sometimes there’s a queue 🥹 the toaster idea is so fun! And my family and I always takes a loaf of bread home on the last day of our trip! The cheese toast and French toast is always sold out when we come 🥹 so you should go earlier!! My personal favourite is the fruit sandwich!! The shrimp inside the shrimp sandwich is always fresh and bouncy! The milk there is great too!
Moisty — Google review
Tried this place out on a weekend at noon and had no wait. There is some charm in picking out the toaster for the table. The toast set was good with the different butters and jams they provide. We ordered their seasonal fruit sando which happened to be shine muscat grapes which was quite tasty. The price is a bit high for what you get but it's definitely an experience worth trying once.
Jon H — Google review
What a lovely breakfast spot! You can choose from different types of toast and even get your own toaster at the table to make it just the way you like. The bread was super fresh I had the Japanese bread, which didn’t need toasting, and it was amazing. We also tried the cheese toast, which was delicious. The different butters and jams were so good too. We loved it !
E K — Google review
As someone who lived in Japan for nine years, I found the dine-in experience here to be below average. I speak fluent Japanese, and from the moment we walked in, I sensed that the staff lacked genuine warmth and professionalism. The fit-out was also very basic — it felt cheap and didn’t live up to the brand’s image. The shokupan and jam set were certainly enjoyable, but again, the overall setup felt underwhelming. The table was also too small to comfortably accommodate everything. The French toast was far too sweet — I couldn’t even manage a second bite. Overall, I would highly recommend purchasing the shokupan for takeaway (this can be done next door), rather than dining in.
Melissa — Google review
Centre The Bakery in Ginza only sells shokupan (Japanese milk bread), and it’s kind of a big deal. They’re known for letting you toast the bread yourself at the table using your choice of toaster. I skipped the DIY and decided to buy a loaf to bring back home instead—toast at home, same vibes! But I also couldn’t resist ordering the French toast… which showed up massive and had me questioning my life choices 😅 Still, it was insanely good—soft, buttery bread that melts in your mouth, paired with cold ice cream. I didn’t finish it, but no regrets.
Bow T — Google review
Their cafe was decent but the French toast is another level !!! It is probably one of the best French toast that I’ve ever had😭😭😭 We went there on a weekday in the late afternoon and there’re no line. Would def recommend this place after a long day of shopping around GINZA:)
Jacob — Google review
It’s 10/10 best break fast I went to in Tokyo it’s a must I do love the details in this restaurant concept it’s clean and the staff are very friendly and polite the menu is simple 👌🏻 🥰 I would recommend this place 100% if you visit Tokyo with the toasts you never say no hope the food quality stay the same well done CENTER bakery Must try food : 1 - egg and chease toast 2 - French toast 3 - sugar and butter 4 - egg toast 5 - shrimp toast

Brasserie Viron Marunouchi is a charming French bistro that boasts a traditional ambiance and an adjacent bakery. The restaurant is celebrated for its exquisite French delicacies like foie gras and escargot, while the bakery offers an array of freshly baked bread, sandwiches, and pastries. With locations in Shibuya and Marunouchi, this boulangerie takes pride in importing flour from France to create its renowned signature baguette.
Had a delicious weekday lunch at Cafe Viron in Maranouchi. Ordered the lunch special fish and meat, it came with refillable baguette. It was around 5000 yen for two people weekday lunch but you can get a cheaper a la carte. The food came very quickly which was great because we had to wait a while in line. Just be aware, you need to write your name on the list, the line is not the order of people, so we had to wait a little longer than people who arrived after us. The dishes were filling and had great flavor dispersed through the mashed potato that the protein lay upon, and the creamy sauce that surrounded it. Will come back.
Sydney F — Google review
Very good food with appropriate portions. I read a review there is a long wait for food to come, but I think ours came in around 5 minutes or even less. Staff did well too, no issues.
Sean ( — Google review
We waited for 1 hour to be seated on a weekday afternoon. Not quite sure what the hype is about. Service is probably the worst we’ve had in Japan so far. One of the waiters gave us the look when we were taking our time to order. Very limited options for vegetarians, and a minimum order of two appetizers is required if you’re a vegetarian. So we had to get an extra baguette for the table which we weren’t able to finish. For the dessert we got a Mont Blanc and a strawberry dessert. Find them mediocre and overpriced.
Iris C — Google review
The croissant was good but Iwas a bit disappointed with their nicoise sandwich. It was basically a potato sandwich (I don’t even remember they put potatos in pan pagnat). No tuna or olive oil whatsoever. Maybe I got unlucky, but I thought it was a safe option given it’s a French bakery and the abundance of tuna here in Japan.
Abdulla J — Google review
I came here for a friend’s birthday dinner. I reserved dinner for us and I asked if they could make desert for her but it was on that day so I couldn’t. Food was really good. They gave us explanations of menu, like where it came from and good with wine etc... when we ordered deserts (mine was parfait and hers was gâteau chocolat ), who expected?? They brought her decorated cake for her birthday!!! We’re surprised and she looked happy. The service was great, I would love to come here again!! Next time I’ll come here with my mom :)

Went there for dinner about one month ago. Located in one of the top commercial buildings at Marunouchi, it is very close to Tokyo Station. It is very convenient for a tourist, especially if you stay in this area. Layout is like a typical French bistro with its own bakery. Staff can communicate in English. Service was good. Quality of food was nice and price was reasonable. On the date of my visit, a Wednesday evening, it was full. It was well patronised by locals. I think the apple pie was an excellent choice to end the dinner. Will consider a revisit if I am in the area.

Bakery
Japanese confectionery shop
Ginza Kimuraya, the oldest bakery in Japan, has a rich history dating back to 1869 when it was founded by a samurai named Kimuraya. The bakery is renowned for inventing sakadane yeast and creating the popular anpan, a delectable combination of red bean paste and soft bread dough. Since its establishment in 1874, Kimuraya's anpan has become deeply ingrained in Japanese culture and remains immensely popular with branches nationwide.
Had lunch at their restaurant on the third floor. Food quite good - had the beef stew and roast chicken. But the highlight was definitely the free flow bread that was part of the lunch deal that they come over to offer every so often --from spinach bread to cheese bread -- all so delicious and complemented with whipped butter We also bought some baked goods from the ground floor bakery. Queue is quite intense -- famous for their red bean buns-- a little sweet for my taste but definitely really popular. They also sell many types of unique jams like hojicha jam and earl grey jam etc
Mei Y — Google review
Breads are excellent, tried both the famous red bean bun and the sesame variety. This was on a summer morning where there was a downpour outside. I wanted to grab a quick breakfast but surprisingly, was told not to eat in store after buying my breads. I was truly puzzled as the entire store was empty and I was only a handful of customers at the store. I understand if this policy should be enforced especially when the store is packed. But this policy of disallowing customers to have their buns hot when fresh, out of store is truly disappointing and one of the very rare occurrence of poor customer service that I’ve encountered in Tokyo.
Chris C — Google review
Ginza Kimuraya, founded in 1869, is Japan’s oldest bakery and the birthplace of the famous anpan sweet bun. Located in central Ginza, it still uses its traditional sake yeast recipe that gives the bread a soft, fragrant flavor. The multi-floor shop includes a bakery, café, Western grill, and French bistro. Their sakura anpan—topped with a salted cherry blossom—is a must-try. It’s a perfect stop to taste over 150 years of Tokyo baking history.

A Sweet Start to a Rainy Tokyo Morning Our second day in Tokyo started with drizzle and light rain, so we decided to visit Ginza Kimuraya—one of the dessert shops my wife had saved on our Google Maps list. She loves sweets, and this place has been on her must-try list for a long time. We arrived about 30 minutes before opening, and to our surprise, people were already lined up outside. That’s when we knew we made the right choice. We walked around the area for a few minutes, and when we came back, the line had grown even longer. Luckily, we still made it into the first batch when the doors opened. The desserts here are absolutely worth the wait. The ice cream is amazing—rich flavor, perfect texture, and beautifully presented. We also noticed many local customers shopping here, which is always a good sign when traveling. If you’re visiting Tokyo—especially around Ginza or even staying in the Shinjuku area—and you enjoy sweet treats or unique Japanese desserts, Ginza Kimuraya is definitely a place you should pin on your Google Maps. A wonderful way to brighten up a rainy morning.

Very crowded. Probably should’ve ordered upstairs to get seating. Forgot we couldn’t eat on the streets in Japan! Took some anpan bread to go to eat breakfast at a nearby park. There were so many options. Ordered the Sakura, cream cheese, custard, soft and hard red bean. Cream cheese and red bean were my favorite.
Hailey A — Google review
Trendy cafe where OLs and retired ladies like to eat. All the food was tasty, although a bit pricey for what you get. That being said, it’s more about the atmosphere and vibe for chatting with your friends or loved ones while eating in a European fashion.

Located at ginza its a 3 storey building which is easily accessible. They serve really healthy food, be sure to make a reservation so you don't have to wait as their seats are quickly filled after opening ! We ordered their bento sets, though food is abit bland but still good. The restaurant is pretty tight, but they provide a lift inside so you dont have to walk all the way to the 3rd floor.

Loved the food, all the options available. Atmosphere was great. Had like a platter and pancakes, everything was so yumi. You have to go!
María M — Google review
Food was tasty (pancakes are more like scones right enough) however I had received and eaten mine before my girlfriend even got hers. We were also first in the restaurant and last to get our food compared to other tables. Main course was forgotten about and took 1 hour 15 minutes to be served it. We were catching a train so had to skip our trip to the shop before it in order to catch it. We didn't even get a discount for them forgetting about the meal, fully charged for everything. Way overpriced for the portion sizes, over 12,000 yen for 3 meals and 3 drinks There are much better vegan places to eat in Tokyo - unless this place works on customer service, reduces the prices and has a chef that remembers to make your food!
J N — Google review
This was the biggest joke. The food was pretty expensive and incredibly bland. I asked myself what I did in life to deserve such a bad experience. First course- dry salad Second course- small bowl of soup. Literally did a double take when I saw the portion Third course- a burrito wrapped in PLASTIC. LIKELY PULLED OUT OF THE FRIDGE RIGHT BEFORE SERVING. There was also a little cake thing with store bought ketchup on top, and store bought tortilla chips on the side with 0 sauce. Dessert was three tiny coin-sized cookies. Literally. I’m still hungry. Portions were small. There were also these super oily chicken nugget things with the dinner plate. I’m from NYC so maybe I have higher food standards, but I have had meals where there is not just flavor, but genuine love and care put into the food. Better restaurants with vegan options in Tokyo- - Asakusa Taiyaki - Fruit Sando spot near Senso-ji temple - Pink Cow

Patisserie
Hidemi Sugino is a renowned patisserie located in Tokyo, known for its delicate and artistic French-style tarts and cakes. Despite its small and isolated location in the alley of Ginza, it has gained popularity as one of the finest patisseries in the city. The elegant shop opens at 11 AM, but customers often start queuing up at least 30 minutes before opening to secure their treats, as the cakes tend to sell out quickly.
So I came here during the weekdays (yes it's a very crowded cake shop, don't go in weekend) & rainy day. This is the perfect combination, so no queue outside the store but still many people inside. I ordered take away cakes, since I don't want to be overcharged for the drink. Overall the cakes were very good, it has very strong flavor, consist of various layer with different taste, & the presentation is quite exquisite. Highly recommended cake, but kinda tricky :)
Ronald M — Google review
First and foremost the cake is really over packed, but very safe. What I had wasn't great, the bottom caramel layer was tasty, but the top coffee layer overpowered everything. It tastes like they used too much instant coffee and it was bitter, exactly like a too strong instant black coffee. From the fancy atmosphere of the place and the aforementioned packaging I expected better.
Aleks S — Google review
Excellent artisan cakes, get in line at least 30 minutes before the opening. Most of the signature cakes aren’t allowed for takeaway. They also sell the cookbooks here
Noel C — Google review
Located in the Ginza area. I would suggest to buy to take away as you have to order a drink for each person dining in and also the seats are limited plus the serving time is kinda long. The cakes are about 780 yen each and taste really really good.
Xianren G — Google review
The notorious Hidemi Sugino. Their cakes were hands down the best desserts I've ever had. Everything about the little mousse cakes was perfect, from the smooth texture to the balanced flavors. Their style is very subtle and delicate, so it's not for everyone, especially those who prefer sweet, in-your-face desserts. I went on a weekday afternoon and waited about 20 minutes for a seat. FYI they do require each person to order a drink (I recommend tea rather than coffee here) and their cakes are a bit smaller. With everything said, I found the quality of their desserts to be well worth the wait and the price.
Vicky S — Google review
Overrated. Cake is quite nice, but definitely not the best. Each cake costs around 700 yen. There are cakes that you can only eat inside. We tried Ambroisie and Diplomate. The Ambroisie is the most popular cake and you can only eat it inside the store. Rumor has it that they only make 10 per day. The taste different between the cakes and the drinks are heaven and earth. The drinks are so average and expensive. 740 yen per small cup. If you eat inside, you need to order drink per person. Feels like a rip off. Go on weekdays, less queue. We went on Thursday, there were only three ppl in front of us and we could eat the Ambroisie. No photo inside the store too.

AMAZING! Definitely the best chocolate mousse cake I ever had! It was worth the long wait. This chocolate mousse is for dine-in only. There are other cakes that you can order home. Everything is beautiful and really delicious.
Pronvara R — Google review
Not too far from main street of Ginza area. The place is crowded with a queue that can go up to 1hour. The interior design is beautiful with a great color which fit perfectly the cakes. The price are mostly 780yen each. Not the best cake I ever ate in my life but we can say they have executed it well.

Bread, Espresso & is a popular spot in Tokyo's vibrant Omotesando district, known for its bread-based dishes and espresso drinks. With 16 branches across Tokyo and even a couple in Kyoto, this place has made a name for itself. While it's not just about the coffee here, the bread is definitely something special. From simple toasted shokupan to French toast and egg sandwiches, they've got it all.
Really enjoyed the French toast and honey! Great atmosphere and very nice staff. The bonus is that it’s open early which was great, as we struggled finding restaurants that open before 10am. I would 110% come back! The coffee was delicious as well 🙂

Very disappointed with this cafe. Went for lunch today after reading good review about their artisan bakeries. However the waiter served our scone (the last one left) to another customer by mistake (and it’s really weird to see a customer eating something that she didn’t order). We ordered nicoise sandwich which was very dry and the bread didn’t taste artisan at all. Ice coffee was ok. When paying the bill, the cashier tried to charge for the scone despite the fact that the waiter had wrote a note that the order was cancelled. After going to many cafes in Tokyo, I observed that neighborhood cafe seems to have bother better service and food. I think this cafe is more for tourists.
Nurfitrahm — Google review
Without a doubt- the quality of the bread and pastries is very high! Most of the breads we tried were excellent; especially the sesame cheese boule and the black chilli dog which was very surprising. The service is a bit lackluster and took forever. It took almost 10 minutes for them to just heat up the breads we picked up- I don’t know why it should take so much time. Also servers looked confused and overwhelmed. But the quality is great and the vibe of the neighborhood is so fun. Price is not cheap but you might say that the quality is worth it. I think it’s a great place to pick up and eat somewhere else.
Matan K — Google review
So pleasantly surprised! The breakfast set was delicious, very good bread and REAL French butter, and nice salad too. Great coffee. Friendly staff, open early. Glad I finally tried it.
Vivian M — Google review
Very fast, excellent service. Clean shop with an open exterior, blending the indoor dining with fresh air in a comfortable transition. There were heated lamps to keep the outside diners comfortable. The baked goods and pastries are delightful and priced very fairly. The iced americano I had was decent, but the food is what stands out as special with the coffee as a caffeinated addition.
Ping R — Google review
The food was good, and coffee as well. However, the service is very inefficient. We arrived and wrote our names in the board, to be seated either inside or outside. There were empty tables outside and everyone else wanted to be seated inside. But since no one from the café actually checked outside for almost 30 minutes, we were waiting anyway.

Bad experience years ago so tried it again - few things to note‼️ Weekdays: Morning menu 8-11am Lunch 11-3pm Dessert time: 1pm Cafe time: 3pm Confused? I sure was first time The pan French toast I wanted was only after 3pm 🕒 I’m sure the schedule is different on weekends too Cafe time is when they got the pan French toast Anyway I tried the French toast in pan with vanilla gelato 1100 - French toast pan + 150 for vanilla ice topping I got water given as I sat down but they got pricy drinks Water pitcher nearby NO set available for this French toast during cafe time 600 yen for regular ice coffee Note: others have a one drink required but didn’t see that written anywhere for the Omotesando branch the French toast is super hot 🥵 super fluffy It’s already pretty sweet enough not to see the honey or icecream Overall heavenly experience, once you know when to come 😅 Would recommend without icecream but careful of long lines too (especially on weekends ) QR code system to order Free WiFi available

Super cool and casual! The french toast was soft and flavorful. It needed no syrup but they provide honey just in case. The interior is a retro style so it’s pretty fun.

Cafe
Cafe de l'Ambre, located in Tokyo's Ginza neighborhood, is a renowned kissaten that has been serving exceptional coffee since 1948. This vintage establishment exudes an old-world charm with its dark wood-paneled interior and vintage china and champagne glasses. The menu features a wide selection of single-origin beans for drip coffees as well as other brewing styles, cold coffees, cocktails, and unique concoctions.
A very traditional coffee shop, yet full of warmth and human touch. Truly worthy of being called the “God of Coffee” — people keep coming in and out nonstop. The coffee has a truly unique and delicious flavor, unlike anything I’ve ever had elsewhere. The staff are warm and hospitable, and the service is excellent. I make sure to visit every time I come to Tokyo. Highly recommended!
JungJung C — Google review
I have to admit, even though I ordered the regular coffee, it is the best coffee I had. My wife ordered the queen amber and it was also very good. I am not sure if I'll ever drink such good coffe anywhere else. If I return to Japan, I will definitely come here again.
Nicolas C — Google review
I find the 10yr Ethiopian coffee tastes nice (but expensive - maybe due to Ginza location). Personally I do not prefer the second drink (with cream on top). It’s a bit too sweet. One thing I do not like - I ordered whole bean coffee 100g and the staff first measure it over 100g so he used hand to take out some beans. Should be small spoon instead for good hygiene.
Boonyawai A — Google review
Cafe de l'Ambre is a timeless coffee shop that feels like stepping back in time. The atmosphere is calm, cozy, and filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. It is fascinating to watch the baristas work with such care and precision, treating coffee like an art form. The menu focuses on classic styles, and every cup tastes deep and perfectly balanced. It is the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and appreciate the moment. A true gem for coffee lovers.

Café de l’Ambre is a one-of-a-kind coffee shop in Ginza. Everything looks like it comes from 50 years ago. The coffee is outstanding, and of course, we'll be back every time we're in Tokyo. Fans of places like that!

I had a really unpleasant experience with the staff, particularly the older lady, who was extremely aggressive. It was easily my worst experience in Japan so far. The coffee was alright but nothing special, and the matcha was awful for me. They wouldn’t make it without sugar and even laughed when I asked, which I found very rude. The apple pie was just so-so. I won’t be going back.

I was recommended to come here and try the Queen Amber. It runs a little sweet, but it’s smooth and I enjoyed the flavors. I would get it again. Double, do not mix.

KOMEDA is a trendy vegan restaurant located in the vibrant area of Higashi Ginza. It's part of the well-known Komeda chain of coffee shops and offers a completely plant-based menu, including vegan pancakes, burgers, and pasta dishes. The eco-chic venue provides a spacious and airy ambiance for a comfortable dining experience suitable for all ages.
Great food and good prices! As a vegan family of 5 this was a great restaurant that had a variety of different options and plenty of seating. It was so good we ended up coming coming once for lunch and once for breakfast. We tried a lot of very delicious things on the menu like the tofu fritters, pancakes, egg chicken tartar burger, soy meat cutlet sandwich, and more. There wasn't a single thing that we had that was anything but great! I would 100% recommend the egg chicken tartar burger. Ordering is fast and easy on the tablet too. This would be a regular place we visited if we lived closer!

Absolutely loved this little vegan restaurant! Highlight of the trip. Each drink comes with a slice of thick toast with a spread - the soy cream cheese was great. My husband and I both ordered a drink, had a toast each and shared a burger between us. That was more than enough but we couldnt resist a sneaky, sweety treaty. Awesome ambience too - really cute cafe

This is the most amazing place on earth. The staff are really friendly, the service is amazing getting water and a ‘warm welcome’ towel as soon as you’re seated. You order on iPads and the food arrives swiftly, we never waited long. If you order a drink in the morning you get free toast, amazing. For breakfast we had pancakes, absolute perfection. I don’t understand other reviews that complain, the food was so good and made so well. I went every morning and evening for a week and have no complaints about the food, service, tables or staff. I also had the curry mayo burger, so delicious and huge with chips included in the price. Also a favourite was the miso pork cutlet sandwich, divine and so flavoursome the miso sauce was similar to a bbq sauce. Fully vegan as well, such a relief to have this place right by our hotel I think if I visit Japan again I would stay nearby just for komeda.

Visited every day for brunch during our stay and had a great experience each time. The food was consistently good and the ordering process was very easy, even for first-time visitors. As Muslim travelers, we found this a safe and reliable option. The location was also very convenient—just a short and easy trip from our hotel in Kyobashi. Highly recommended for a relaxed and satisfying breakfast in Tokyo.

This restaurant is a plant-based eatery operated by Komeda Coffee. They’ve recreated Komeda’s signature dessert, Shiro Noir, without using any animal-derived ingredients—everything here is entirely plant-based. Just like at Komeda Coffee, the staff are kind and welcoming. There are seats for solo diners as well as box-style booths, and the interior is bright and cheerful. My personal recommendation is the grilled soy meat burger(炙りsoyミートバーガー). The spicy sauce adds a delicious kick!
優宇奈 — Google review
I didn't know before visiting but you need to reserve a time slot which can be done via the tablet inside the entrance. You receive a QR code for notifications to be sent to your phone, although the staff came to the queue anyway to call our numbers. It would have been useful having clear instructions in English as most of the instructions were in Japanese. When my slot was ready I was called forth and seated. From the menu I chose katsu soy ham sandwich, grains salad with sesame dressing and tofu fritters with french fries, tomato ketchup and tartar sauce. The food was all fine but  standard cafe fare, although I'd skipped the famous desserts as I'd already eaten enough food to fill me up.
Neil W — Google review
The food here is amazing and the staff is so nice! If you’re not from Japan, a pro tip is that you have to call the server when you want the next course served. There is a button on the table to call them. Our server was so nice! Highly recommend the coffee jelly dessert.

Rooms were not only tiny and super noisy... but the soundproofing was very very bad, you can hear people from the adjacent rooms talking and also people walking out in the corridors. Staff are very nice, welcoming and helpful if you have any questions. Location is great, just minutes walk to Inaricho station and lots of restaurants and convenience stores close by. If you like Hot Springs, there is a public bath between the station and the hotel
A C — Google review
I recently stayed at this hotel from August 28 to August 31, and overall, my experience was quite positive. Location: The hotel is situated about 1 km from both Keisei Ueno and JR Ueno stations, making it relatively convenient for travelers. While taxis can be expensive, walking is an option, though I wouldn’t recommend it in the current weather conditions. Fortunately, there is a nearby train station within walking distance, which adds to the convenience. Staff: One of the standout features of my stay was the exceptional service from the staff. Every interaction I had was pleasant and professional, and they were always willing to assist with any queries I had. Value for Money: Considering the amenities and service, I found the hotel to offer good value for money. It's an affordable option for those looking to explore the Ueno area without breaking the bank. Room Quality: However, I did notice some areas that need improvement. Specifically, the carpet in the room felt worn and contributed to a dusty atmosphere, which detracted from the overall comfort. A refurbishment in this regard would enhance the guest experience significantly. In conclusion, while the hotel has some room for improvement, particularly with the room cleanliness and maintenance, the excellent staff and reasonable pricing make it a worthwhile choice for travelers.
A. A — Google review
This is a very good hotel if you want to be around the Ueno station, with quick and affordable access to the Keisei Skyliner (from and to Narita Airport). It's a 15 min walk to the station. We enjoyed the neighborhood and very easy access to the Ameyoko and Asakusa districtsas well as the Ginza subway line to explore the East side of Tokyo (we stayed at a different hotel in Shinjuku for the first part of our trip). I would say, if you seek a new or luxurious hotel, this is not the place. Apart from the building and room features feeling old (the 24inch TV in the room was a nice touch), the only and main issue we had was the smell. Even though we were staying in a non-smoking room, the whole floor and the room had that cigarette smell mixed with incense. Luckily, there's an air purifier in the room and combined with the AC, we were able to calm the smell a little... I would recommend the hotel if you're looking for cheap accomodation in a calm neighboorhood and that you don't plan on spending time in the room apart from sleeping and cleaning up. There is a laundry room too.
Xavier B — Google review
Nice and helpful English speaking staff. Helped us dispatch our luggage to our next stay without any hassle. Rooms are big for Tokyo standards and comfy. Only downside is the ventilation noise in the room that can't be turned off.
Tiago T — Google review
I generally dont mind old hotels as long as they are clean. This place was far from clean. The longer i was looking the more issues i was finding. The carpet in the bedroom was dusty causing issues to family members alergic to dust. The bathroom had mold in a number of places - the door sealant, behind the mirror, even the shower head. Probably ventilation was not working as intended as wallpaper in the bedroom was peeling off. Attaching photos. We had to move out earlier than planned as the stay was stressful because of the above issues, obviously without a refund. So the hotel owners have so insensitive tp improve the place The location is convenient.
Maria B — Google review
Very close to Ueno Station. Staff is very helpful and most of them understand enough English to answer questions and to offer help. The room had enough space to store 2 carry on suitcases and a large suitcase without problem, very clean. They do not offer cleaning services during the stay, FYI.

Pelican Café is a cozy spot known for its delicious sweet and savory sandwiches, as well as charcoal-grilled toast served during breakfast and lunch. The café is linked to the famous Pelican Bakery in Asakusa, renowned for its freshly baked shokupan and dinner rolls. Established in 1942, the bakery has been a local favorite for about 80 years. In 2017, Pelican Café was opened just a few hundred meters away from the bakery.
This is by far one of the best places I will never forget. The sandwiches are out of this world and even though it's been almost a year I've been I crave it every day. It is an absolute gem and they are soooo friendly.

Went here dør breakfast, and they have a quite simple breakfast menu, not a whole lot to choose from - but that's okay. I had the char-grilled toast, which came with butter on top and orange jam on the side. It was actually really good, even though it just looked like an extra thick piece of toast. My friend had the fried ham and egg on toast, and it had a good mustard on it. They only serve regular coffee, but it is made pour over style, which I prefer when I can't have espresso drinks. The staff was kind and the food came quickly. A really nice place all in all!
Cecilie C — Google review
I came here on a Monday morning. There was already a queue at 8:55 am, so I had to wait for the second round. After about 25 minutes, I could finally go inside. People kept lining up non-stop, i guess it’s a very popular breakfast spot. I ordered the ham cutlet sandwich and hot coffee. The toast was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the coffee was tasty.
Liu T — Google review
Nice, tidy toast place worth a casual visit, but not worth long waiting or long trip for sure. ❤️The butter is really nice ❤️English menu and English speaker staff I’ve heard about this place from SNS. There was barely a queue when I visited at 9am The set of toast + coffee costs 750 yen, which it’s fair. The toast looks cute, but tastes normal than expected: it’s a bit hard, and there is no dedicatedly crispy surface, but just a normal… toasted surface The ham sandwich tastes good because of the ham cutlet and the thin and balanced mayonnaise cabbage cuts. However, the bread is still normally toasted, and it’s a bit thick for you to eat elegantly It’s not bad, but a bit expensive in my point of view. Or at least, I wish the toast could be better made with a more unique taste

OG Breakfast Toast, eggs, and pork katsu is what this place is about and they do it right. They’ve been doing this for many many years. The thick sliced homemade bread is toasted on a charcoal grill and the pork katsu (not sure if it’s technically Katsu) goes perfectly together. The coffee is brewed in a unique Hong King type of way and is very different but good. It’s not a place for atmosphere but if you like original / authenticity, you should check it out. Not sure if it’s worth traveling a long distance for it but if your into thick toast, I highly recommend

Arrived without a reservation and got a waiting number, No. 65. Since the previous customers with numbers didn't show up, we only had to wait for about 20-30 minutes before being seated. Stylish café in the middle of Asakusa spot. Great coffee and delicious dishes, especially the waffles and the bread dishes. I went there at least three times, always great. The only downsize is that is very popular, also with tourists, and it may be challenging to find a seat.

Unfortunately quite disappointed with our visit today. Latte was basically just milk (I only got single shot of coffee but that is usually more than sufficient). Also ordered cinnamon bun which had clearly been made many hours previous as it was stale, it did not merit having its full price tag of ¥650…. Also ordered coffee soft serve ice cream which did not really taste of anything. Staff and atmosphere had no faults in our experience. What a shame over all though.

Great coffee in Asakusa right by Sensoji. There will most likely be a line unless you get there a little before opening time, but worth a little wait nonetheless. Can recommend the daily brew or the Americano. Both are excellent! Worth a stop.

Stopped in here for a coffee and a snack after visiting Senso ji temple. Purchased a coffee and was told that because I took it to go. I could not drink it there. Unfortunately I also had to purchase one item per person to be able to stop and down. The employee was very nice about it but still inconvenient. However, the coffee itself was actually delicious and the ambience was very nice.

Overrated spot with an extremely long line at opening. There’s very limited seating and the wait is not worth it. The food looks nice but is underwhelming in taste, and the coffee is just average. The music was so loud, i could not hear my own thoughts. And like i said we went for an early morning coffee, talk about killing the mood of a nice cup of coffee and a quick bite to eat. Not a place I would return to.

We were not impressed. There was a queue at the entrance so we thought it would be good. We waited for 20 minutes for our waffles, by which time we had finished our coffee. They forgot the sausages on mine and the amount of chocolate on my friends waffle was abysmal. The actual waffles are quite stodgy

(Translated by Google) I'd heard it was delicious, but since I always buy cakes from my favorite store, I rarely had a chance to try it. My child wanted to try their cakes, so we visited for the first time. In conclusion, they were just as delicious as they sounded. We bought five different cakes this time, and the prices were more reasonable than I expected. Pixie 660 yen Mont Blanc 600 yen Orca 650 yen Trifle 550 yen Rare Cheesecake 365 yen Not only are they beautiful to look at, but they're all elegantly sweet without any cheesy sweetness. They're delicious, and every bite makes me happy.

Otaco is a charming gluten-free bakery nestled in the Asakusa neighborhood, known for its delicate rice flour chiffon cakes. The bakery offers an array of individually wrapped cake slices in flavors like green tea, Earl Grey, coffee, cocoa, pumpkin, and chocolate chip. With daily flavor rotations, there's always something new to try. Despite its small size and limited seating, Otaco's light and fluffy cakes have garnered praise from visitors. Some favorites include the lemon and green tea flavors.
The cake is delicious, super light with almost no sugar. Everything is gluten free!! The lady was very kind and friendly. Sadly there is not place to eat there, neither have a coffee or tea with the cake... however, it totally worth it, is delicious.

We tried 4 different types: caffe, cherry blossom, cocoa and matcha as takeaway for breakfast All 100% gluten free chiffon cakes, super soft, the lady super sweet and nice, cost not very high but available payment only cash. Thank you for preparing these goodies for us coeliacs! We are very happy to be able to taste it! 😄

Top notch gluten free cake place. The cake is melting in your mouth. The price was alright and the lady at the counter was beyond kind. We paid by card and were even able to purchase a close-to-expiration date pumpkin cake which was reduced with ¥100.

Gluten free chiffon cakes! This is a place I was planning to check out for a while, and then suddenly a dear friend of mine gifted me these two (pumpkin and coffee favours) and it really made my day. I guess even a little present can turn a stressful week into good memories. The chiffon cakes are extremely soft and they almost melt in your mouth, but the taste is pretty delicate!

As someone with celiac’s, it’s amazing when you can find a place that has such delicious treats that are gluten free! We stopped here after visiting Senso-ji temple. The shop is small and very cute. The staff was super friendly. And the cake was so soft and perfectly subtly sweet. We added the whipped cream which made this a heavenly food experience that I’ll be thinking about for a long time. Thank you!

BELTZ Basque Burnt Cheesecake is a must-try in Tokyo, offering a taste of the Basque region in Spain. The cheesecake features a deeply caramelized surface and a creamy interior, striking a perfect balance between decadence and nuanced fragrance. Conveniently located near Ebisu Station, this treat can also be found at various pop-ups across Tokyo and Yokohama. Customers praise its creamy texture, moderate sweetness, and authentic cheese flavor.
Definitely the best cheesecake I’ve had in Japan. The package arrived in perfect condition. And upon leaving it in the fridge, it came back to perfect eating condition. Creamy and cheesy! I can finish half of the big size in one sitting!
Pauline M — Google review
The emperor has no clothes here. The cheesecake is so horrible and boring, can't even finish 1/3rd of the small size. The top "burnt" part completely lacking any caramelized flavor that is supposed to be present in this type of cake. Then the white part doesn't even taste like cheese. It is just a paste of who knows what and that can be worrisome. In general Japanese people do not bake cakes at home. That's why they can be easily duped into believing that a cake is good just by having a creamy texture. They don't know from childhood on how the cakes are supposed to taste. But for westerners who grow up with the entire family baking all kind of cheesecakes, with real cheese inside, it is obvious that this product here is a failed simulation and price-wise a total ripoff. The serving staff is okay but you should definitely spare a visit here, spend this money to eat something healthy and not a bland fatty paste. Was considering buying a large one to give as a gift but very glad that we tried the small one and stopped at that.
ADEYTO A — Google review
Absolutely delicious! One small one can probably be shared between 2 people if you already have had dinner. Bought this from their time at the pop-up store in the train station. Packaging is solid and tasteful, cheesecake was fluffy, creamy but not too overpowering, exactly what you'd expect from a good basque cheesecake. Thank you for all the effort you put into this! Feel lucky to have eaten it
Bryce C — Google review
A lovely little bakery that sells only Basque cheese cake which comes in 2 sizes, namely small for one 1 - 2 people and big for 3 - 4 people. I got the small one for 750 yen. It came with an iced package. The staff was very polite and kind. The café has a restroom customer can use. Unfortunately, they are currently not open for seating, even though they have tables available. This was a pity as I really wanted to take a seat to enjoy the cake after walking up the hill from Ebisu station specifically to visit this café. Anyway, I appreciate the staff's considerate gesture and love the easy-to-eat cheesecake they have. It's less sweet than typical ones and light enough for one to eat a piece alone in one go. It's not the cheesiest basque cheese cake you will find though.
Ornwara T — Google review
They only have 1 item in the menu: basque burnt cheesecake. They offer a single piece or in pound. I got two small ones to eat at home. (750 yen each) When you entered the shop, you will get tea as a complimentary drink. The smell was nice and you should taste the ginger in the tea. Very refreshing after you walk the in cold for a while. Once I got home, I noticed they provided the ice pack for you. The cheesecake is very smooth, soft and tender. It melted in your mouth. The taste is not that strong compared to the one i like but the texture is definitely one of the best I’ve tried.
Bam P — Google review
Bought the one portion cheesecake to take out as turned up too late to eat in. Great service with complimentary tea taster as I ordered. Portion size perfect for one but definitely left me wanting more! Deliciously creamy but was expecting a little more of the crispy sourness of the top, but you probably get that more with the larger cheesecake. Would definitely recommend, wasn’t the absolute be-all and end-all of cheesecakes but was delicious!
Cassie G — Google review
Best one ever! Not too sweet, texture is perfect. It’s just sad the sitting area is just for the look and you can’t sit in to eat it
ELO G — Google review
This place has been on my list for a while now, and it was finally able stop by. Basque cheesecake has had its moment in Tokyo recently, and as I scoured the city for the best, this place popped up. You have two sizes to choose from: a small, individual option and the whole cake option. I went with the small one, which was 750 yen. I enjoyed the cake quite a bit, I just wanted it to be a little creamier. You can eat in or take out. The staff was great.

Nakamise-dori Street is a vibrant shopping destination that serves as the gateway to Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo. This historic street has been bustling since the 17th century and features an array of stalls offering everything from traditional sweets and kimonos to quirky Kawaii toys and religious souvenirs. Visitors can expect a lively atmosphere, especially during weekends and holidays when crowds flock to explore its offerings.
Nakamise Shopping Street is such a cool place to explore! It’s packed with tons of little shops offering all kinds of there is souvenir from traditional gifts to fun snacks. It’s a great spot to pick up something memorable from Tokyo. We tried a strawberry mochi for the first time so soft and delicious! We also had a strawberry on a sugar stick, which was super sweet and tasty. Both were a hit! Definitely a fun and lively spot to walk through, especially if you’re visiting Senso-ji Temple nearby. Highly recommend stopping by for the food and the atmosphere!
Elba P — Google review
Nakamise Shopping Street is a busy, colorful mix of traditional charm and commercial energy. Walking through, it’s easy to get swept up in the crowds, especially during a heatwave like the one I experienced—it can get quite uncomfortable. As a group, we bought some souvenirs, but quickly realized that better or cheaper options were just a few meters away, so a bit of patience pays off. The street is lively and vibrant, with plenty to see, but the highlight is at the end: a beautiful shrine that reminds you to be respectful and mindful of local customs. Overall, it’s worth visiting for the atmosphere and sights, but go prepared for crowds, heat, and careful shopping. Tip: Bring water, go early to avoid the peak sun, and take time to enjoy the shrine at the end.

Nakamise Shopping Street is a vibrant and historic market located near Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo. Stretching approximately 250 meters, it features over 50 shops offering a variety of traditional snacks, souvenirs, and crafts. Visitors can savor famous treats like ningyo-yaki (sweet cakes) and senbei (rice crackers). The lively atmosphere, with vendors often showcasing their crafts, adds to the experience. Nakamise is an excellent spot to immerse yourself in Japanese culture while picking up unique gifts. Overall, it’s a must-visit destination for both tourists and locals alike.
Eldor S — Google review
Nakamise Shopping Street is super lively and colorful, with a fun mix of traditional shops and touristy stalls. It gets really crowded though, and on a hot day, it was pretty uncomfortable at times. The best part is at the end: a beautiful shrine that feels peaceful compared to the busy street. Definitely worth a visit for the atmosphere, but be prepared for the heat, the crowds, and lots of shopping temptation. Tip: Bring water, go earlier in the day if you can, and don’t rush through the shrine—it’s the highlight.
Ryan L — Google review
Very touristy place but still well worth the visit. Plenty of folks in rental kimonos and folks pulling rickshaws give this place a fun almost theme park like environment. The shops have ok prices and plenty of variety for everyone in the family.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Tokyo, Hotel Mystays Ueno East offers a cozy and functional retreat for travelers. This casual hotel features comfortable rooms equipped with essential amenities, ensuring a pleasant stay after exploring the city's many attractions. Guests can enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi and a delightful buffet restaurant on-site. The hotel is conveniently located just 2.8 km from the iconic Tokyo Skytree and is within walking distance to Inachiro Metro Subway Station, making it easy to navigate the city.
Conveniently located in Ueno for Yamanote line and close to Kappabashi St for shopping, this budget hotel is a little gem. We had all the amenities needed, the room was clean and bed was comfortable. Staff were friendly, professional and most spoke English.
PC M — Google review
My experience at this hotel was unfortunately marred by consistently rude and unprofessional customer service. In particular, two young female staff members at the front desk stood out for their poor behaviour — one with short hair, and another with her hair tied up. Upon arrival, I received no greeting or warm welcome, which is highly unusual in Japan where hospitality is typically outstanding. One of the staff members continued chatting with her colleague while I stood at the counter ready to check in, completely ignoring me. When she finally acknowledged me, the interaction was rushed and cold. She placed my passport back on the counter without handing it to me — a small gesture, but one that felt extremely dismissive and disrespectful. Neither staff member took the time to explain the hotel facilities, nor did they offer even the most basic courtesy during my stay. Each time I walked in or out of the lobby, I was met with silence and indifference. Again, this stood out to me because every other hotel I’ve stayed at in Japan provided warm and attentive service — this was the only exception. I expect at least a basic level of professionalism and respect when staying at a hotel, and sadly, that was not delivered here. I would not return, and I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to others based on the lack of basic hospitality and the frankly rude behaviour of the staff. Location was in a quiet area, and far away from train stations.. About a 10-15 min walk. Rooms were okay, standard 3 star.
Linda T — Google review
The best part about this hotel is the location. It's around 15 minutes' walk to Keisei Ueno Station, 10 minutes' walk to JR Ueno Station, and less than 5 minutes' walk to Inaricho Station (Ginza Line). This gives great flexibility to explore Tokyo. As it's located between Ueno and Asakusa, the surrounding neighborhood is also packed with convenience stores, restaurants, and cafes that I think would cater to a lot of people. The room itself was understandably small, so if you bring a big luggage (or 2 medium-sized ones), you might feel cramped. If you're overweight (like me), the toilet position might be tricky, but it's still manageable. Everything else was alright; wi-fi connection was good, bed and pillow were comfortable, staffs were accommodating, etc. All in all, given the cost, I consider this as a good option to shortlist in Tokyo.
Yvan S — Google review
Very basic, fairly clean and functional room without attention to details. Small changes could have improved the the experience. There was no thoughtful use of the cramped space, such as consideration of where to open a carry on sized suitcase. The bed, pillows & sheets were comfortable. Overall an acceptable place to spend the night, but I would not go out of my way to return.
Sylvia G — Google review
The location is top tier, very safe but the rooms are smelly and extremely small, not at all what it looks like online. Bathroom is what actually smells and the hotel staff can be quite rude, in particular if you are African-American.
Fashionista O — Google review
Rooms are small, but this is the same with all Tokyo Hotels. It is near a train station but father away from Ueno Main Station. Maybe around 10mins walk. Staff are nice and always greets us when we arrive and leave the hotel
Aaron G — Google review
location wise it is about 3 - 5 minutes from inaricho station but 10-15 from Ueno which can be a tiring distance. The hotel surroundings are very quiet and there isn’t much to do that. There is a nice sento near which I would recommend for all to visit. My biggest complaint would be the steps to get into the hotel while lugging my luggage, and once past their main door I realised there are more steps to reach the front desk. Room size was big as we got the bigger room and amenities (at the lobby) were available to take back to room as well. They have two lifts so there was never any waiting. Good sound proof as I could never hear any noise outside. There were two pillows provided , an ergo one and a normal kind which were nice to try. The room also had the most wonderful kettle which was nice to use. However room was by central heating and we didn’t know how to open the windows so sometimes the room can get quite unbearably hot during winter.
Fuiringu O — Google review
Solid basic hotel in great location, small room. Same block as a local bath house, coffee roaster around the corner. Right near subway stop. Centrally located, can walk to both Asakusa or Ueno park. Short walk from Keisei express from Narita. Use Google maps to get from the station. 3rd stay. Will come again

While the shop primarily focuses on pre-ordered cakes, there are a few seats available outside for customers. Additionally, individual slices of cakes are available for takeaway each day.
Beautiful little vegan dessert bar. Everything is presented so perfectly you almost wouldn’t want to eat it. It was a really hot day and they kindly gave me two ice blocks to keep the cake I bought from overheating after I left. The cake itself was delicious, a nice mix between a strawberry sponge and a fruit sandwich. There’s a good selection to choose from as well.

This small, cute vegan patisserie was on my Japan vegan bucket list for a while, and I’m glad I was finally able to check it out, well I got there 5 minutes before they closed, but I was still able to buy two delicious choco cakes options. They were delicious, not too sweet and not dry, which is quite normal for vegan cakes. The shop is a bit pricey, but worthy.

Stopped by this place in accident as we were at Hyozaemon shopping for chopsticks. Saw this as we were exiting so had to stop by. We were not disappointed. The food is well manicured and the counter person took great care to make sure it traveled well, packing it with ice and all. Everything is vegan and can be by the slice or whole pie. Slices are about 800 yen each. For vegan food, that is competitive. Very tasty and no hint of coconut so am not sure what they use for the oil base. It is well worth a visit.

The food is ok. But there aren’t many options , they don’t have any vegetable milks Or brown bread for the toasties. The service is excellent but, I think it’s expensive for the quality of food offered. I would only come here in a rush when you are starving (as it happened to us). I’d rather go to a local Japanese coffee shop and it would probably be cheaper and tastier. Come before 10 am as the panda latte and some toasties would probably be sold out.

They have a helpful ranked list of their top-selling items (1-4). I opted for the #4, a dark cherry danish, and a cheddar cheese bread. The danish was balanced, not overly sweet. However, the bread was quite hard to chew. They have a dine-in area to enjoy your purchases. A very good point is, they provide allergen information for each item, with even more detailed nutritional information available on their website. Unfortunately, they do not accept QR payments at this time, only cash and card.

So so so much to choose from and everything looks fresh. As you enter, just grab tongs and a tray and place on it what you want. Staff are helpful and have some basic English. Mister Donut - Asakusa Shop is a must-visit spot in Japan, offering a delightful selection of donuts. The donuts are not overly sweet and are well-balanced, making them delicious and satisfying. The self-serve system adds to the appeal of this location. Visitors can enjoy traditional donuts, cream-filled pastries, and unique chewy options. The shop provides an excellent variety of flavors, including seasonal specialties like the sweet potato pon-de-ring.
Their donuts is a must try when you visit Japan and it was no joke. The wide variety of donuts at the display counter already caught my eye when I entered the establishment. I just wanted to have it all. I bought the mochi donut with uji matcha flavor and I instantly fell for it. The donut was very soft and rich in the matcha filling. I craved more of it after i finished it. So I went to get myself the original old fashion donut and it was very delicious as well. If I had the chance I would buy all the donuts to give them all a try as they all look so delicious!

We came for the special pokemon donut release on Nov. 6, 2024. I arrived at 8 30 when they opened thinking they'd be available right away but was told very apologetically that they wouldn't be ready until 10am. No problem at all! So we returned just before 10 and got in line, then enjoyed our donuts. The line was a bit slow as some customers were unsure of the extra items they wanted, but the staff was kind and helpful. The donuts themselves are delicious and there were plenty of each option! The packaging was cute also!

Great and cheap donut and other salty pastries. A lot of seats available there with a short line of less than five minutes - not trivial in Tokyo

Their donuts were not bad, a sugar rush for me, but I think you need to go in the morning for their pokemon ones. Still, managed to get one in a Pikachu wrapper (and I love the design of the Pikachu). Nothing too special about the donuts though.

It was great to see a Mister Donut cafe in Tokyo, as I do not recall seeing one in Singapore. Also, there are savoury options here! And the price is cheaper. I would recommend the mochi donut and the sausage puff.

Andesu Matoba is a charming bakery with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Despite the language barrier, the employees made an effort to communicate in English and ensure a pleasant experience for customers. The bakery offers a wide variety of delicious breads, including yomogi mochi bun with red bean paste, matcha bun with white bean paste, and tuna & egg sando. Customers appreciated the generous fillings inside the buns and found the bread to be soft and fluffy.
the mentaiko bun is really nice! bread has a nice chew, filled with creamy savoury cheese inside, topped with an amount of mentaiko that is just right 👍

Tried the cheese bread, sweet potato, chocolate bun, and the number 1 selling bean paste bun. All tasty and the service was really attentive and quick. Plain white bread was fluffy and dense.

Passed by this bakery and decided to go in to grab some breads. One of the best decisions I made!! The ladies inside the shop were so friendly and full of energy. Felt so welcomed! We know limited Japanese and they spoke a bit of English to help us during check out (asked if we need bag). They had a great variety of breads. I picked the yomogi mochi bun (I liked the mochi so much!!! It had red bean paste inside), matcha bun (probably matcha powder mixed with white bean paste) and tuna & egg sando (I enjoyed it with drip coffee). All were delicious! They put good amount of stuffing inside the buns. They accepted Suica, which was very convenient for me!!

They are specialized in red beans paste, Anko. So this is the bakery of Anko-expert. That’s why the shop name is “An”-desu. The pastries are really good. Full of red beans, Little bit salty and not too sweet flavor, and friendly staff. 170yen/ 1 red beans paste pastry The problem was that they accept only cash, but they said they will accept cards from February. Good news.

Unbelievably good! The specialty of this bakery is bean paste bread, or offshoots of the very popular Japanese sweet, an-pan. They have an extensive array of fillings and flavors and you should try them all, including the seasonal flavors. Bean paste fillings might seem very intimidating a flavor at first but it is delicious. The employees are also very welcoming and love to try their English.

Fantastic bakery in Ueno station. First trip there was so good, we did it two more times for breakfast/snacks. Good selection of breads, fresh is you go in the morning as you would expect. We only did take out, so cant comment on actual atmosphere. Clean place as you come to expect in Japan with superb service at the cashier - we bought a bucket load of stuff which was expertly and efficiently packed for us. My favourite was a cheese and cranberry roll (looks like a whole meal roll) - great balance in flavour.

The large lady that serviced us behind the counter was very rude and shouldn’t be in a customer service role. The bread was so cold and didn’t taste nice. She didn’t offer to heat them up. Been all over Japan and had a great time but this was the worst customer service by far.

This is a bakery or boulangerie with yummy looking breads and pastries and a seating area at the end. Being famished from my trip, having a pleasant place to sit down was a big draw. I got the bacon twist (epi) and my teeth almost came off. It was actually hard, not crunchy hard but tough as old leather hard and dry. However, their Nut Florentine is terrific (crisp, buttery and just the right sweetness😋)and I returned to buy again 3 days after but it seems one needs to buy a JR ticket to get into the JR part of Ueno station🤔.

Wow this bakery is amazing. We walked by here to the metro several times but never had time to drop in. Then, on day 10 of our stay we stopped by. Every item was so flavorful. My daughter had a cute panda Oreo bun. There is seating on the 2nd floor which you can’t see from the outside.

At this time, there are no items out of stock, but it seems to have been featured in the media recently, and Pop was on display. It's not the fluffy type that's been trending lately, but a firm bread. Since the size is small, 2 pieces was not enough for lunch. The price range is from 200 yen to 400 yen, so it's not cost-effective, but the taste is delicious. Personally, I recommend the pistachio and ham cutlet. I'm sorry for my own opinion, but honestly the cutlet ingredients were not delicious even after rebake, and it's a shame because it's the most expensive of the day. The fried shrimp had a basic taste and I ate it after rebake for about 30 seconds, but I think opinions are divided as to whether it's better with the tails still attached. I would like to avoid it because I have a high chance of getting it caught in my teeth. You can't get fried bread, as you can see in the photo, the soybean flour is ruined and it doesn't look good, and if you buy it in a bag, the soybean flour gets on the inside of the bag and it looks ruined, and the taste is basic. The mandarin oranges are brioche and may be good for people who like their hard, firm bread (seasonal only). The mandarin oranges themselves are delicious. Saturday only? The egg itself had a lot of ingredients and tasted delicious. Overall, the koppepan is small, so it might be better to buy 2 or 3 of them, but I feel like they should consider the option of sandwiching them between them. However, I think having a microwave oven and being able to rebake is a good thing. This shop sells delicious melon pan filled with ice cream. Perfect for an afternoon sweet snack! The melon pan is sweet, very soft inside and crusty outside. It's served slightly warm and that makes a great contrast with the ice cream inside. We chose matcha ice cream and could definitely taste the matcha. There are a couple of outdoor seats that allow you to enjoy the snack while taking a rest. The shop is in a lovely street full of shops.

My coworker said that if we go to Asakusa, we definitely need to try the melon pan. At first glace, it looks very good and the smell was so amazing. We got to try their Matcha and Vanilla. Too bad that we weren't able to try the cookies and cream since we were already full. They have available two seat infront and aside that there's nothing else. You will need to stand up while eating. The melon pan was crunchy and soft inside. The matcha ice cream taste really good and it was not overly sweet. Same with the vanilla one. It is a good dessert for 700 yen. Definitely try it.

What an amazing hidden gem, and for ¥300 - ¥700 a melon pan, was easily a memorable discovery. Normally for a melon pan, I would order it plain on its own but this time I decided to try a sweet version and ordered the Cookies and Cream melon pan and it was mouthwatering, with the outside being nice and crunchy as I expect and soft on the inside with the ice cream in the centre. When I came, it was not busy at around 12:40PM but once I started eating my melon pan, the bakery got busy and had a small queue as quite a number of people got intrigued by the dish, even someone asked me which melon pan I should order. Certainly will be back when I'm in Tokyo and sending some love from Melbourne, Australia!!

As a lover of stuffed bread with cream I decided to try this place as soon as I spotted it. It has some variety of flavors to offer and I got myself a Vanilla Icecream and ChocoBanana with Whoicream which is not chilled. I had the chance to try Tokyo Melonpan after many years. I can say the food will not disappoint. The giant melonpan on the building looks a bit broken which takes away from the appearance of the store. While the person operating this location provided us with great service and a smile, we went at 1030 and the store hadn't opened yet. In fact it didn't open until after 11am.
Jon H — Google review
I'm not sure if I went on an off-day or something but it was really quiet and there were maybe only 4 or 5 buns per flavor (plain, chocolate and cinnamon). The bun itself was soft and fluffy and the cookie part was the crunchy, sugary type of topping. The cinnamon flavor was only in the cookie part but chocolate was in both. Size was about right and the slashes were a good depth. I'm super biased though because my first meronpan was completely melon-flavored and the cookie part was thinner so it didn't flake off everywhere when I bit into it. That is to say, I've had better. A shame since this is highly rated amongst foreigners! But if you're looking for plain white sweet bread, then this one is for you.

I came across this spot while walking around Nakamise-dori st, and I’m so glad I decided to try their melon pan! I got the strawberry one, and it was SO delicious. The strawberries were so fresh and sweet, and the crust was crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, and the cream had just the right amount of sweetness. Disappointed with the quality of the strawberry cream melonpan. Noticed upon purchase they had many buns pre-packaged a ready to sell and the melonpan tasted like they had been prepared the day before - stale and dry. Other vendors sell melonpan hot from the oven. Also, they use shelf stable cream instead of fresh cream. The quality was on par with a convenience store pastry but not priced as such.

As a red bean lover, my husband loved their red bean bread very much. It was the best! As for me, whose stomach can't tolerate red bean, I loved its oozing cream and fluffy bread. The branding on the middle of the bread also gave it that crisp, burnt texture. Their shop is so small that only one person can fit inside. Good thing there's a bench outside. Even though it doesn't seem like it because of the small size, it's a noteworthy bakery that is well worth the trip.

MAR 2024 I have only tried their signature sweet red bean bread which was really good. The bread has a nice aroma from the grilled stamp which was noticeable as soon as you open the wrap. Bread was soft with plenty of filling; half fresh cream and half red bean paste. The fresh cream lightens the richness and balances the sweetness of the red bean paste.

"Succession" is a bakery located on Kitte Dori near a post office, offering a variety of pastries, bread, cookies, and cakes. The ciabatta is particularly recommended for its freshness and flavor. The bakery also has a cafe where customers can enjoy their purchases. Despite being off the beaten track, "Succession" is known for its high-quality sweets and friendly service. It's worth trying their flan and cafe au lait as well.
Dropped by after lunch when it looked like they had already sold out on a lot of their pastries. Purchased a ciabatta which was delicious - fresh and flavourful even without butter or as a sandwich. The cakes & cookies looked delicious - both pre-packed cookies and fresh cake made that day. Friendly service and careful to ensure that no more than 3 customers are in the store at any one time.

Stopped by this delicious pastry shop in Yanaka. I had their oatmeal cookie —it was simple and satisfying. A pleasant little break spot if you’re walking around the neighborhood.

It might not be easy to find. It’s on Kitte Dori near a post office. They carry some bread, cookies, and baked cakes made by themselves. Their pain de lodeve and chabatta are great. They make a sandwich with chabatta as well. I haven’t tried all, but the cakes are also very good. There’s a cafe as well. You can take home something you buy and eat there.

(Translated by Google) I went there because it was talked about on the internet! The store has a nice and stylish look. Very nice. When we entered, there were many baked goods in addition to the cakes and breads in the showcase! No, I thought there was! lol It was 2:30 pm when I visited, and there were almost no products left in the showcase! disappointing. In the end, the famous Anko cream cup? I bought a Victoria cake with sour raspberry jam. As for the taste... well, maybe my expectations were too high, or it was just "normal". I think I'd like to try the lamb raisin sandwich next time. But can it beat the similar product Marusei Butter Sandwich? (Translated by Google) [May 2025, Takeout] On this day, I went on a foodie spree with some fellow foodies. Our first stop was "Teuchi Soba Nezu Takajo," where we enjoyed the delicious "Kamo Seiro" (duck soba noodles). Afterward, we stopped by here. My goal was the "Rum Raisin Sandwich." The counter inside the stylish shop was lined with a variety of baked goods, including financiers, lemon pound cake, sables, and cakes. My companion also picked out some of those, but I opted for the classic Rum Raisin Sandwich (400 yen) to go. The description read, "The butter cream made with rum-soaked Muscat raisins is delicious! This is our most popular item." Since I had plans to head to Okachimachi afterward, I decided to take a stroll. It's not very polite, but I ate this "Rum Raisin Sandwich" as I walked. The sense of guilt was also a good thing. (lol) When I started eating, I was surprised to find that it was larger than I expected and very satisfying. The crisp, thick cookies were filled with a perfectly balanced layer of rich buttercream and elegant rum-soaked raisins. As I continued to eat, the sweetness spread throughout my mouth, and my sense of satisfaction increased. However, I would have preferred a cup of coffee with this. Perhaps it would have been better to just take it home and enjoy it! In any case, it was a delicious "rum raisin sandwich." Thank you for the meal. T's Bakery is a charming little bakery tucked away in a quiet corner of Tokyo. They are known for their specialty, anpan, which is a red bean paste filled bread that tends to sell out quickly, so it's best to visit in the morning. The bakery offers a variety of delicious baked goods including fig croissants, pumpkin buns, and tea melon pan. The atmosphere is peaceful with lovely design and soothing music.
Cute cafe tucked down a side street in Tokyo. Great place to escape the hustle and bustle. Really nice design, peaceful music and extremely delicious baked goods. We had a Fig croissant/roll, a pumpkin bun, and their tea melon pan. Would recommend all. Nothing was overly sweet which I appreciated. Good coffee too!

Bought sliced white bread, pain au chocolat and raisin walnut bread to go. Very reasonable price. All were delicious; I consider the best white bread found in Tokyo regardless of price. Top with French Echire butter from Seijoishi Market. Pain au Chocolat was dense, slightly chewy and buttery.

The bread and pastries here are amazing. The bread has that authentic crunch you get with a french baguette. We brought a few things from here and each one had a distinct taste. My favourites were the cheese bread, bacon baguette, soy cream pastry and the fig/walnut bread. But it was hard to pick as there was such a good selection!! The lady who served us and who makes all the items herself along with her husband was very friendly. I will definitely come back when I revisit Japan :) Wonderful find!!

The French toast was also not too sticky and sweet, making the best use of the special bread. The 100 Years Curry Bread, available only at the Ueno store, is also a bread that gives you a Kanaya Bakery feel, as you can tell it has curry roux and other ingredients in it. The cheese onion gratin has delicious ingredients, but it's a bit disappointing that there aren't that many. Of course, the overall price is high, so it's delicious, but it's up to you to decide whether it's worth it. The curry is scented with cardamom, It's probably a chutney, sweet and sour, fruity yet spicy. However, the cheese is strange. It looks a bit strange to me as it resembles that stuffed in sweets crackers. I want it to be processed cheese. ⚫Mugwort Anpan To be more precise, it's seasonal anpan. The tsubu-an (sweet bean paste) inside has a low water content and smells like red beans, making it a little sweet but delicious. ⚫Brandy Raisins soaked in brandy wrapped in danish. The closure of the well-loved Scandinavian bread specialists, Vaner, in Tokyo last October left a void that has now been filled by a new bakery called Think. Located in Yanakas Ueno Sakuragi Atari, a collection of vintage Showa era houses transformed into trendy establishments, Think is a delightful French boulangerie and patisserie. It offers an assortment of delectable pastries and bread crafted using fermented butter and levain (natural homemade yeast).
We takeaway some pastry, went to the nearby park for pastry. Cheesecake is creamy, moist and milky. Not cheesy, but nice. Rum Raisin Butter Bun, the bread is fluffy, with rum raisin flavored butter cream. Nice texture and fluffy, love it. Melon Bun, texture feels like polo bun, with a layer of melon sugar crust. Very crispy, nice. Chocolate Bun with lemon praline, pretty good. The bun has some chocolate flavored, slightly sweet, with some butter as well. Pistachio Scone is soft, slightly fluffy. Nice. Danish Tart, fluffy and crunchy, the custard is average. They have a lot of pastry besides bread, so more variety and more sweets. If you love Japanese pastry, recommend.

Oh my god! Very delicious. Its a tiny spot with several offerings. Loved it! Butter salted bread, milk baguettes were the best!

A great bakery that is a must if you’re in Tokyo. The selection is fantastic and I truly wanted to try everything. I ended up going with the melon pan, brioche, and gorgonzola walnut pastry, and all were delicious. Especially the gorgonzola. It’s a cool space that feels like you’re walking into an old Japanese house. The staff were super friendly and service fast. It was a Scandinavian bakery beforehand, so it seems like this place has maintained a customer base from that, so be prepared to wait. Pro tip: you can call and place an order before you go and pick it up at a scheduled time.

Good pastries but not good enough to justify the queue. Only four people are allowed in the store at the time and it feels as if people queue so long that they then feel entitled to take forever to make their choices - combined with the staff needlessly & wastefully individually plastic wrapping each pastry/bread means the line moves very very slowly. More environmentally (+cost) conscious packaging and a reminder for customers to be more decisive would both be easy improvements to increase throughput AND customer experience (a win win for everyone). There are so many good bakeries in Yanaka, don’t waste your time in this queue and find somewhere else.

Their pasties are some of the best we had- the flavors and layers of the pastries were perfect. We care a lot of finding good bakeries everywhere we go and this stood out to us as some of the best. But the line was very long and I almost gave up…

We discovered this place purely by accident. Tuck away on this little side street is one of the best bakeries I've ever been. Amazing range of beautifully baked goods. It's very popular so come early and join the queue, well worth the wait.

The bread selection boasting both excellent quality and variety. Not only that, but the prices are very reasonable, making it a truly pleasant experience for customers. The service provided by the staff was friendly and welcoming. Whether it's the delicious bread, the wallet-friendly prices, or the amiable service, this place is definitely worth a visit.

Takayama Bakery is a charming little spot with a friendly staff that goes out of their way to explain the offerings in English. The fried squid sandwich with lettuce and wasabi mayonnaise is crispy and delightful, while the red bean-filled donut is also very good. The bakery offers a variety of sweet and savory snacks that change daily, all made fresh and reasonably priced. Visitors rave about the delicious pastries with amazing combinations of flavors and textures.
Was in Tokyo for a week. This little bakery was near our AirBnB. Once we found it, I brought breakfast back from here 4 days straight. We liked everything we tried. They make a beignet with red beans. For those that like red bean, this was a perfect fusion of French and Asian foods. Family fought over the last ones every morning. We liked all of the fruit pastries and milk bread sandwiches we tried. This is not a destination bakery, but if you're walking through the neighborhood and its early (it's a small place that will sell out of items, no seating) and want to grab some quick pastries, I highly recommend this bakery. I will go back if I ever stay in the area again.

I wanted to try a more small business bakery, and I stumbled upon this bakery. As an early riser, this was open by the time I was out. The bakery was still setting up when I got in and I didn't see the red bean items that others have talked about. However, I got a delicious apple pastry and their cream and raisin pastries were still delicious. It has a nice mom and pop feel and the pastries were delicious though I wouldn't go out of my way just to get food here. If you're in the area, I would recommend trying. There are 2 paid car parking spots right next to the store and if you have a bike, you can park in front of the store.

The best local bakery in the area! My favorite is their fried curry pie. It’s nicely crunchy outside and so soft inside. Twisted sweet donut is also great.

Very nice little bakery. The woman at the counter was very kind. She came over to tell me in English what everything was. I had a fried squid sandwich with lettuce and wasabi mayonnaise and it was crispy and delightful. I also got a red bean-filled donut which was also very good. 🙂 ありがとうございます!

Tokyo Curry Pan offers a unique take on the classic Japanese curry bread. Unlike the traditional deep-fried version, this perfectly round bun is covered in fine panko breadcrumbs and baked to perfection. The filling consists of Japanese curry and stretchy cheese, creating a moreish combination. Despite being a small counter shop with only one item on the menu, this curry bread has gained popularity for its high-quality ingredients and mild yet flavorful curry. Customers also appreciate the friendly owner and charming manga-style packaging.
The cheese curry pan was one of the highlights of my visit to Asakusa. The meal was tender, full of flavor, and surprisingly filling. This place will definitely be on my list next time I return to Japan.

The Premium Tonkatsu Curry Pan (¥800) is limited to thirty pieces per day and was already sold out when I arrived at 15:30 on a weekday, but I wanted the Truffle Scent Stretchy Cheese Curry Pan (¥500) anyway. It came out piping hot within minutes and was delicious. The truffle smell hit me immediately, and the cheese was indeed stretchy. There are two benches out front for you to enjoy. Cash only; exact change preferable.

I saw this place on IG and decided to try it out myself. The bun was so soft, it's ridiculous. The curry and cheese together is a beautiful combination. And, the amount of cheese... if you ever were tempted to tell a waiter to never stop adding more cheese on your pasta, this place puts enough cheese inside the bun for you!
Angel C — Google review
Delicious soft bread with gooey cheese in the middle. The owner is so sweet and they have limited stock as it sells out so fast!

When we got there, there were a few people. There was no queue order so you had to rely on the staff shouting your order for you to know when yours was done. Naturally, we relied on the staff to indicate to us when ours would be done as she only shouted the order in Japanese - and how would I know who has ordered what in front of me? At some point, my mum saw that there was a bun left on the counter but the staff didnt call to us we thought it belonged to someone else. So we continued waiting until there was no one else. And still we continued waiting since the staff did not call out to us - and we just thought perhaps the premium bun took longer to make. Finally I couldn’t take it anymore and went up to her to check. And she said that the bun on the counter belonged to us?! I was incredulous! Even if she had called out to us earlier and we missed it, couldn’t she have called us one more time when we were the only ones outside the store? By the time we ate the bun, it was already cold - who knows how long it had been left there? Not worth the 880yen I spent.

Day and Annny, a bakery in downtown near home which is elegant and delicious, but it is a little small and expensive. It is produced by Chez Matsuo founder Kozo Matsuo. The day of my birthday I wanted to eat cake at this store, so I was happy to meet again unexpectedly here! I would like to ask for a birthday cake from them.

(Translated by Google) I used to buy cut cakes from this shop and loved it (I really like the fresh cream!) I forgot to buy my husband's birthday cake a few months ago, and when I called him in the morning, he said he could pick it up the same evening. I asked for a whole cake. When I went to pick it up, I noticed that it was probably a male pastry chef. They came out from the back and served us very politely, so I was able to have a very pleasant birthday! I would like to ask you again when I have a chance. Of course the cake was delicious too. (Translated by Google) I decided to make a reservation for a Christmas cake at a shop that I had been interested in for some time, so I came to try the individual cakes first. If the normal rating is 3 stars, I think it would be around 2 stars. I bought strawberry shortcake, tiramisu, canelé, and milk sandwich bread. Everything except the shortcake was very delicious. The shortcake sponge was hard and dry, maybe it was made 2 days ago? That's what I thought. When the male chef was looking at the showcase and wondering, he didn't ask if it was his first time visiting the restaurant or that this place was popular...I felt lonely. The prices were about the same as those found in department stores, so I think I had too high expectations. I think the bread and cookies are delicious.

(Translated by Google) My husband bought this cake for me as a souvenir. I've known about this shop for a while, but since the name of the shop is in English, I wonder if it's an American cake? I didn't even think about going there at all. My husband chose fromage and cassis. The price for both is just under 600 yen including tax. I received blackcurrant. The cake is small, but the taste is very delicious. The pastry chef probably trained in France. I also took a bite of my husband's fromage, and it had a rich cheese flavor and was not too sweet, giving it the feel of a classic French pastry. The cassis was a little sweet. Overall, the quality is high, and it's too authentic for a cake sold in a residential area in Taito Ward like this (in a good way).I think the price is reasonable, but many people may find it expensive in Taito Ward. yeah. On the other hand, since it's in this location in Taito Ward, I think it can be done for about this price. I also think it's a bit of a waste that the store name is in English. If they sell French sweets, I think people who understand that it's French should give it a try. According to my husband, the person who appeared to be the owner was very polite in apologizing for the lack of variety of cakes because he went there late, and the customer service was impeccable. Next time, I will visit when they have all the different types of cakes.
