Nestled in a serene setting with brick walls and barn wood, C & O is a celebrated restaurant in Charlottesville's Downtown Mall. With a history as long as its beautiful menu, it's known for anniversary and special occasion dinners.
Extraordinary dinner experience at C&O. The space itself is unique and inviting, a contemporary atmosphere in a historic building. Our server was knowledgeable, warm, and capable. The food was exceptional. We started with the bibb salad and scallops. The salad was fresh and flavorful and more than enough to share. The scallops were perfectly seared. I had the duck confit with ricotta gnocchi and it exceeded my expectations in every way. My friend enjoyed the lamb pastry. Neither of us left a crumb behind! We almost changed our dinner plans at the last minute, considering a more casual experience, but we both felt delighted that we stuck with our original instincts. I highly recommend C & O for a date night, or a night out with friends, family, or anyone who enjoys delicious food.

What a beautiful experience!! Top notch, warm, romantic atmosphere and staff that are always making sure you have what you need in a timely fashion. The food was served fresh, hot and of the highest quality. We were so impressed from the appetizer to the dessert, dry rose’ wine and homemade bread. Such a fine dining experience as we passed through Charlottesville over night. We had the wild stripped bass, scallops, bread, and the dessert!! Just heavenly. Kudos to a well managed and customer satisfaction priority restaurant with the warmest of feels. We will return!!

This is such a cool place to eat in downtown Charlottesville. The menu changes fairly regularly, but everything is always delicious. Their homemade bread is amazing, especially with the salted butter. I ordered the duck confit with gnocchi this time and loved it. I wish there had been more of the gnocchi, but still happy I ordered it. The building is beautiful and rustic, it’s a great place for a special occasion (although they don’t offer a free dessert or anything like that, we asked). Friendly staff and very close to the water street parking garage. Be sure to make a reservation.

Came here to celebrate my husband and I anniversary 🎊 I love the old house restaurant and vibe! The little fishes 🐟 from the aquarium at the bar were cute. But specially we loved the food. It was delicious 😋 I highly recommend Scallops to start your dinner.

Fluke Crudo, Beef Tartar, Veal Sweetbrreads, Caesar Salad, Duck Confit Gnocchi, Wild Berry Sundae Crumble. Food and service were both excellent. Presentation and flavors are lovely. The service was professional, attentive and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was cozy.

Beautiful place, very romantic ambiance, very luxurious food. We had the scallops, crab cake, Yukon gold ravioli, fettuccine with lobster, and the steak chinois. The sauces are absolutely amazing and make every bite a party in your mouth. The customer service was excellent. We also had the almond cake and blackberry sundae with caramelized pistachios...very elegant and a great way to finish off our meal. 😋
Trish E — Google review
What a cozy wonderful restaurant! We liked the atmosphere and the friendly staff, the food and wines are outstanding. We had scallops with capers and sweetbread with Pinot Noir from Willamette, a perfect match. Bavette Chinois steak excellent as well. Finally sticky Toffee with Madeira, to die for. 5 points!
Martin M — Google review
No vegetarian entrees were offered, so I was left having a bib salad and a pasta appetizer from these starters menu. In 2025, is it too much to ask for nice restaurants to actually have a good vegetarian entree on the menu? The The salad and pasta appetizer were nothing to write home about, but the sticky, toffee pudding dessert was delicious. Definitely not a first choice for vegetarians which is just fine but sometimes vegetarians have to accompany a larger party. So please do better with at least one real vegetarian option

Event venue
Tavola is a stylish bistro located in the Belmont neighborhood of Charlottesville, VA. The restaurant offers classic Italian dishes and a selection of wines by the glass, 1/2 carafe, or bottle. Known for its exceptional rustic locavore Italian cuisine, Tavola celebrates local cheesemakers, breadmakers, and agricultural vendors to highlight their unique talents and quality offerings.
Went out randomly on a Tuesday night, and my wife and i were able to get a table on RESY, an hour later at the chefs bar, we got there early, and they got us a seat in the cocktail lounge until our seats were ready! I originally wanted something else, but I gravitated to the meatballs. After the recommendation, and i couldn't believe how amazing they were! The tiramisu was out of this world amazing !!!! The staff the entire time was amazing! Overall, it was an amazing experience! I advise anyone looking for great staff, great food, and amazing atmosphere to give this place a try !!!
Matthew B — Google review
Tavola was everything we hoped for and then some. Tucked into the charming Belmont neighborhood. From the first bite, you can taste the difference: every dish is made in-house, from scratch, and it shows. The pasta was perfectly tender, the sauces rich and layered, and the flavors felt like they were crafted with real care. Hands down, one of our top dining experiences in Charlottesville. Can’t wait to go back.

My husband and I had a Saturday 5pm reservation to celebrate our anniversary. I had read some revies beforehand so knew to expect to wait in a line in the alleyway before 5pm. However I was definitely a little shocked at how narrow and gross the alleyway was - if you're going to have your guests wait there, at least spruce it up and cap some of the condensation drains coming down from the roof! Also, logistically it made no sense to have everyone line up before 5 - any normal restaurant would be glad to have a bit of a stagger between 5pm reservation seatings. I was watching our poor waitress run around like a chicken with her head cut off to get drinks and apps to her 4 tables, which would have easily been avoided if they just sat us a few minutes apart (upon arrival). You can also tell it's just to incur some sort of feeling of exclusivity and not for logistics sake. That being said, the food was DELICIOUS. Highly suggest the fried artichokes. The autumnal orichette was delicious but my husband thought the carbonara was a little salty - probably a personal taste. Food was fairly priced, drinks were on the pricier side but definitely worth it for a date night or special night out. The inside of the restaurant was intimate, tables are spaced far enough away from each other that you don't have to hear your neighbors conversation, and the atmosphere was quite nice for an early Saturday meal - I imagine it gets moodier as the night goes on as well. Our server was very sweet and accommodating (I'm pregnant so she brought us two complimentary flutes of "champagne" except mine had ginger ale - very nice!) and we were in and out in about and hour and 45 minutes.

Our first visit to this authentic neighborhood Italian restaurant. Enter via side gangway. We tried to get reservations the day prior for a last minute birthday trip to C-Ville, but was told we could arrive and might be able to get seating at the bar with 15-20 minutes. We arrived on a Saturday night a little before 6pm and did not have to wait for bar seating. There are a few very tiny round tables in bar area a couple of which had 3 patrons ( I would not be able to eat with 2 others at that table, maybe they were only having appetizers?). Our bar seats were fine (chairs had backs) and servers were very friendly and made helpful recommendations. I had the carbonara which was the best I have ever tasted (I make my own and this was even better!)...house made sausage as well as the pancetta, just the right amount of pepper and cheese. Companion had the papperdelle which (I sampled) was very good too. Server said these two items are the most popular. Nice selection of wines and craft cocktails. We also indulged and ordered the hazelnut tart (sweet without being overly sweet and perfect flaky crust) and the pecial apple cider bread pudding which was outstanding! Would definitely recommend this restaurant, I now understand the reason reservations are usually booked up!

Omg. This place exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere was great and our waitress was amazing. Definitely get the FRIED ARTICHOKES THEY ARE SOO GOOD. For entrees we got the FraDiavlo, bolognese, and shrimp linguine (something like that). They were both sooo do. For dessert we got the tiramisu and it was really good. U need to come here

A favorite restaurant in Charlottesville. I had the amazing clams with house made linguine and a delicious Hugo Spritz. Excellent food and service.
Jane M — Google review
It's my first time eating here, and the food is fantastic! I had the beet salad with deep-fried mozzarella ball, then a shrimp and pasta dish finished with the Chocolate Lava cake. The servers were very friendly, we had a group of 5, and everything came out quickly and hot! Great for date nights and business dinners. 5/29: Food is still excellent! Clean plate club!
William B — Google review
An Italian restaurant with an intimate atmosphere, this was the perfect place for date night. The capesante ai ferri, which included sea scallops on a bed of beet-leek risotto, was unlike anything I’ve ever eaten. The texture and flavor of the risotto perfectly matched the scallops, and made a dish that is usually a little too fishy for me just right. The wahoo was cooked perfectly and the sauce, potatoes, and asparagus were a great compliment.

Public Fish & Oyster is a rustic-chic seafood spot on the East Coast, offering a raw bar and craft cocktails. The menu features various ways to enjoy oysters, as well as dishes like Scallops & Lobster with Cherrywood Smoked Bacon and Oyster Mushrooms, Low Country-style Steampot, and a pan roast of shellfish in lobster veloute. The pet-friendly patio makes it perfect for enjoying blissful dining with your pooch.
⏰Be sure to get a reservation to be seated ⏰ Great experience here ! Very welcoming. Soon as we entered we were greeted by the owner. Our servers were great ! The oysters were fresh 🤤. Mussels were one of my favorites. Mash potatoes were a little bland , but when mixed with the crab cakes they were good!

Awesome experience! Were greeted and sat at the bar after only a few minutes on a busy Friday evening. Oyster varieties were amazing and fish specials were cooked perfectly. Our waiter Eric went above and beyond to make our experience enjoyable and unique and the bartender was on point with almost no wait for drinks. Eric even helped us with an itinerary for the rest of the weekend with recommendations. Was refreshing to stop at such a classy place. If you’re just visiting, recommend getting an uber and just walking around. Gets very busy downtown. If I’m ever in town again this will definitely be my first choice for dinner!

Had a wonderful dinner at Public Fish & Oyster. The food was amazing! We had the lobster bisque, clam chowder, oysters Rockefeller, fried oysters, crab cakes and the shrimp and grits. We also got the key lime pie for dessert and a chocolate….something. Everything was top tier. Wonderful evening and not over priced.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Instantly in My Top 10 Public Fish & Oyster in Charlottesville is the real deal. Happy hour hits hard with buttery lobster rolls, ultra-fresh oysters, perfectly seared tuna, and crispy calamari that’s next-level. Impeccable service, flawless food — one of the best dining experiences I’ve had anywhere. Yes, that good.

Open Table said there was no availability...but we ventured there anyway and took a chance. Thrilled we did! We were greeted warmly and provided a seat at the 1st come/1st served bar. The attention and service were 1st class, warm, genuine, friendly and welcoming. The seafood was fresh and served immediately..ie 'hot foods hot and cold foods cold'. Delicious clam chowder. Highly recommend! They were the best part of our stay in Charlottesville, VA!

Thanks John for the oysters and friendly vibe! It is a fun upscale place to eat oysters and have a drink. Bourbon selection is on point. Main area ia a bit small but nice outdoor seating too.

Visiting Charlottesville to celebrate the birth of our first grandchild, we returned to one of our favorite restaurants. We were treated to complimentary bubbly by our waiter Ian when he found out why we were there. Ian was a treasure, and was happy to offer suggestions of which raw oysters we might like, and was completely familiar with all items on the menu. He was a delight to talk with, and was nicely attentive. Both of us shared a dozen raw oysters, a side salad, a roasted squash, and both of us enjoyed an entree of fried oysters. I have celiac, and this spot is definitely one of the best restaurants in Charlottesville for dining gluten free. The Public is a treasure, and I highly recommend it!
Laura G — Google review
We arrived thinking we had a reservation for the night but it was for the next day. The hostess worked to fit us in and we were seated inside. Eric, our server was amazing - polite, professional, knowledgeable and fun. He expertly described the oysters available and the fish specials. We enjoyed some amazing cocktails made by John (great bartender!!). I am a gin lover so very much appreciated the variety of gin cocktails. The colossal shrimp cocktail did not disappoint and the halibut dish was perfect. The atmosphere was nice and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The pricing was surprisingly low (we live in Dallas so maybe it was normal).

Bizou is a charming restaurant located in Charlottesville, offering a mix of traditional and updated Southern dishes. The establishment, which has been around for 20 years, prides itself on sourcing local ingredients that change with the seasons. The menu features classic favorites like meatloaf and pot pie alongside elegant Sunday brunch options such as eggs Florentine, hanger steak, salmon, and pomegranate mimosas.
Had a great brunch at Bizou. We went during the children's spring break. As such, it wasn't as crowded as we feared as most of the college students were likely on break as well. We were seated without delay. The Double Down Burger and Spicy Chicken Burger were both tasty, juicy, and full of flavor. The rest of the table were satisfied with their dishes as well though i am not certain what they were called. Service was excellent! Our server was very friendly and attentive. The venue itself has a charming old historic feel that adds to the experience.

We had the Biriaa Biscuit and Fried Chicken Sandwich, both of which tasted amazing. The chicken thigh was cooked beautifully and the slaw was perfect. We had a side of fries that were cooked perfectly. Their cocktails are worth the price, amazingly made. The service was kind and quick. We ate within 30 minutes of sitting down.

Servers were all very polite and hospitable. The atmosphere was mellow with dim lighting. BUT THE FOOD THO. THE FOOD WAS STUPENDOUS. The short rib croquettes, the duck ravioli, the scallop seasonal special, the creme brulee! The short rib croquettes and their crunchy exterior when you bite into it, the creamy and soft short ribs interior dipped into the rich and creamy hint of mustard SAuce. Exquisite. The duck ravioli was full of flavor, perfectly cooked al dente ravioli, so good. Touched my tralala. The scallop had a very nice grilled flavor, there was so much different flavor in one dish. Like the autumn leaves. The pumpkin slices, to the carrots, to whatever was in there. I don't even know where they get their olive oil. That was such a smooth and fruity flavor. The creme brulee was a nice finisher. I would love to go back.

A Cville treasure! Great menu with local ingredients executed perfectly. Sit outside if the weather permits or grab a cozy booth inside. We had the roasted beet salad with seared salmon for lunch.

Food is fantastic. Wine list is complete. Only comment is to take a day with the staff on the wines & proper serving temps. Beautiful bottle of 2022 Chablis came out slightly under room temp. Had to ice it down to bring it to its glory. Was genuinely great otherwise. Just take the time to educate the super star staff on the wine.
Max T — Google review
Splendid French style dishes. • autumn squash tart absolutely exquisite. Fall in a bite, roasted cinnamony squash, buttery crisp and rich tart, pumpkin seed texture pop, & matchless goat cheese yogurt sauce with hint of sweetness and basil garnish. • tuna tartare with minty green sauce and sweet sour soy glaze, fresh tuna, & crispy wonton fried strips for dipping and crunch texture. • confit duck ravioli with generous richly flavorful sauce, garlic pesto, basil, goat cheese yogurt drizzle. Succulent duck in al dente ravioli pasta. Restaurant floorplan a bit narrow feeling, service can be a bit rushed and desultory by some of the staff but attentive and great by others. Superb food.
S. C — Google review
Food quality was variable. Burrata salad was pretty good, vegan tamale not so good, garlic bread not so good, crab cakes were ok, and short ribs were good. Server was a bit awkward but ultimately provided decent service. Sit outside--kitchen fumes a bit strong inside.

Vegetarian options and all the servers work together as a team. Even the bartender came to ask exactly how the cocktails are desired. I would like more than one napkin but hey the food was amazing. Very quaint place.

Southern restaurant (US)
The Whiskey Jar is a beloved spot in Charlottesville, known for its comforting Southern cuisine and laid-back atmosphere. The menu offers hearty dishes like crispy fried catfish and tender BBQ brisket, complemented by an extensive selection of local beers, whiskeys, and house-made cocktails. This casual eatery is part of Ten Course Hospitality and is a go-to for those seeking classic Southern fare such as buttermilk biscuits, poboys, and fried chicken.
The restaurant is so cute and the food is amazing! I absolutely love the cornbread and have to get it every time. I’m also a huge fan of the blackened catfish. This past time I got the oyster poboy with the broccoli salad and both of those were so good.
Zoe G — Google review
The bourbon selection is pretty fantastic at the whiskey jar and the staff were great. We stopped in on the way through town and had a few local brews and had some dinner. On a recommendation from the server, I got the BLT and it was unquestionably the best one I’ve ever had. The kids had grilled cheese and they were also raving about it. We had to wait about 25 minutes to get a seat outside, but that’s probably because we showed up around 6pm on a Friday night. I’ll definitely stop here the next time I’m in Charlottesville.
Adam H — Google review
I went with a friend for lunch. The decor was authentic and made the place charming. I took the rack ribs with french fries and salad. The meat was really tender with a barbecue sauce. Absolutely loved it.
Kevin G — Google review
I can highly recommend the Whiskey Jar Julep is made of very fresh ingredients at the bar. The meat is not a poor quality cut but actual good quality and the sides are all good. Staff remembers faces despite the busy atmosphere. Drinks and food can be found cheaper but not for the exceptional quality of the well made food and drink.
Jason C — Google review
Good experience with attentive staff and decent food - nothing to write home about. The Wilson sandwich was tasty and the house salad was good (w/ shrimp). The drink were a bit strong for my taste.
Charles S — Google review
We went here for the live music. Special shout out to Matthew O'Donnell for the invigorating energy and amazing music. Spent hours in the place just for the music. Its mind blowing how many instruments he played! Its ljke a magician who gets out a different instrument every two minutes. Unexpectedly, the food was also quite nice. The vegetarian burger might feel slightly dry, but less so than most other american burgers. The hummus and veggies were great and healthy. Although, I wonder from the huge size of the veggies whether they are gmo. The hummus tho has a brilliant taste! Moreover, one of the most lively place in the downtown. Love it!
Tanvi G — Google review
I was looking for an authentic southern restaurant to take my friend to. This place did not disappoint. very solid a pulled pork. Barbecue nachos was loaded and tasty. The brussels sprout was so good. Everything was seasoned well and not overwhelming. We also try their signature cocktail with whiskey and really like it a cute little place in downtown to recommend.
Caimiao L — Google review
I reviewed this place 7 months ago and it hasn't changed after giving it another try recently. This is the second visit in 7 days, and neither of them was mind-blowing. I had not planned on reviewing this spot since it is a local favorite. After the experience tonight I wanted to put my two cents in. To begin, the drinks are great, as is the environment. There was a local group playing some music tonight, which I have heard before, and they are entertaining. No issues there. It was nice to see the folks dancing and having a good time. The drink selection is great too. I am writing this based on several visits and not a single visit. The not-so-great. These last two times I have received glassware that was chipped and broken. Not a huge deal to some and I've been in food service before. I know first hand how this can become a big deal to some folks. I was honestly perturbed by the fact that it happened twice in a row. Sounds dumb, but I was not inspecting my glassware thoroughly when it was brought in; I did not notice that it was broken until I was already drinking from the glass. The first time I brought it up, the young man was very apologetic. This second time, the waiter (a different person) was sort of nonchalant and uncaring. The food is mediocre and salty. I had a burger the first time that was made incorrectly. I notified the young man, who was apologetic but never came back with the condiments I requested. He didn't come back for a good 40 minutes, to be honest and I had decided to just eat my burger and go home by that time. This time I had the fried chicken. I won't make that mistake again hahaha. There was a breast and two other pieces which were unrecognizable because they were burnt and dried up. The breast was moist inside but the breading, potatoes, and gravy were all extremely salty. I enjoyed my drink so I will just stay away from the food next time. Overall, my impression is that the location and live music is what makes the place great. definitely not the food nor the service. I want to say it was a one-off, but through the 3 or 4 past experiences, the service was never more than "ok".

Known for its small plates meant for sharing, Mas Tapas serves up an exciting array of flavors, including renowned dishes like bacon-wrapped dates and creative combinations such as oil-poached shrimp and chorizo deviled eggs.
Fantastic food. Must tries include the artichoke hearts, carne asada, bacon wrapped dates, papas bravas, and the shrimp. Great flavor, great vibes. Was not a huge fan of the brussel sprouts. Would definitely go again to try other (and some of the same) dishes

By far one of the top 3 restaurants in CVille. Sitting at the bar in front of the kitchen is definitely the best seat in the house. However when we went the guy working at the end of the kitchen was chewing on his fingers, on his phone and in and out of gloves all night long as well as his fingers in his hair and face. We are restaurant people. The fact it was not called out was upsetting. We didn't let it bother us, as we even tipped the kitchen because it was so enjoyable to watch them pump that food out and maintain such poise and discipline.

Food received a three because I felt everything was under seasoned and could have used more of everything. Concept it great and a good place to socialize with friends and family. Service seemed like they didn't want to be there. We almost ordered the entire menu and was told it would be coursed out but it all came around the same time and ran out of room on the table. Empty plates were not bussed to make room. Atmosphere is amazing. I really like the feel of the place and like I said before it is the perfect place to drink, eat and socialize with friends.

I secured reservations well in advance for my bday dinner. I'm so glad I did! It was amazing! Everything we ate was absolutely perfect! We ordered 9 plates for 2 people and took home 4 to-go boxes! We definitely over ordered, but we wanted to try so many things! Tapas sizes are perfect for 2. I even scored a free dessert for my birthday! This place is in my top 3 best restaurants in Charlottesville. Can't wait to go back! The staff was friendly and efficient. Parking can be difficult to find, as it's all street parking.

We were disappointed with the overall experience. While the food was good our service was not. Since we're a party of 4 from out of town, we wanted to try several dishes on the menu. We were advised to put everything in at once and they would course it out for us...WRONG! I should have listened to to my instincts, because our 12 dishes came out in rapid succession, as most tapas does. We simply couldn't eat fast enough and our table quickly ran out of room. The server was generally inattentive and just shy of rude. Perhaps our experience would have been different with server.

The hostess and staff at Mas went above and beyond to give us a wonderful dining experience. There was a mix up with our reservation but they adjusted quickly to make things right. We had a person who was gluten feee and another person who was a vegetation. They brought specialized menus to accommodate our dietary needs. The food was absolutely delicious, and service was perfect. Every single dish we ordered was a culinary treat. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Charlottesville.

2024: The food gets better and better. From our most recent visit, the favorites were the pan tomato (a new menu item and amazing), bocadillo, coliflor and carne asade. (And always papas bravas~ rivaling the best we had in Spain!) 2023: There’s a reason they are always so busy! It’s so different now that they take reservations. We didn’t have one so were stuck at the bar this time. It’s a bit too hectic to be enjoyable for conversation. But no complaints about the food, though! The patatas bravas are always a favorite with us. Rioja is great. I didn’t like the sangria as much. Bread and olive oil ~ nothing compares to that Spanish olive oil. I didn’t enjoy the flavor of the albondigas (meatballs); in fact, from the menu description, I didn’t expect them to be meatballs. The halloumi cheese was different but delicious! The sauce was unexpectedly slightly sweet. The shrimp was delicious, and the sauce made it perfect. All in all, another incredible meal at Mas!
Margaret E — Google review
Always quality, but definitely has gone a bit downhill in terms of portions, pricing, and service. I love the roasted tomatoes. However, they short-change customers on a racion portion (it’s not double the taps size, yet twice the price). One major gripe I have is that you cannot place a to-go order. Also, one of the wait staff told me they’re not allowed to box up food. They basically force you to dine-in.

French restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Charlottesville's Downtown Mall, Petit Pois Restaurant offers a charming and cozy bistro-style atmosphere. The menu showcases an array of French-inspired dishes, with highlights such as the delectable duck confit and creamy seafood risotto. Wine enthusiasts will appreciate the thoughtfully curated wine list featuring selections from France and beyond, perfectly complementing the rich flavors of the cuisine.
First time trying Petit Pois and we had a great meal! Each course was delicious and the service was very friendly and fun. Only qualm was the pacing, we specifically asked them to space out our courses but instead everything came within 30 minutes — our mains delivered about 10 minutes after we got 2 appetizers. We also felt like we had to wait to ask for another drink as multiple servers were addressing our table.

Petit Pois is a cozy, intimate spot that nails the balance between comfort food and elevated bistro fare. The atmosphere feels warm and relaxed, perfect for a date night or a chill evening with close friends. I was impressed by their thoughtful beer selection, which pairs nicely with the dishes—something you don’t always see done this well. The pork chop was a standout, especially thanks to the rich, savory gravy that brought it all together. But the real star? The PEI mussels in white sauce. Absolutely unreal. We went through four rounds of bread just to soak up every drop—yes, it’s that good. Service was quick, smooth, and friendly. The staff made us feel welcome without hovering, and they were super easy to work with. All in all, Petit Pois is a gem. Definitely worth a visit (or several).

Excellent French restaurant. The prices were very agreeable. The food tastes great. The lobster bisque 🦞 was light and tasty, though I would have preferred pieces of lobster over shrimp or no shrimp at all. The Trout Almondine was excellent. I enjoyed it very much and would get it again. My son had the salmon and was hoping for more flavor. The salad was very good

Absolutely loved our experience at Petit Pois. The staff are wonderful and the atmosphere is charming. The menu is amazing and we had trouble deciding what to try. We had the lobster and shrimp bisque, french onion soup, and mussels to start. All were outstanding, especially with the bread to soak up all the goodness. We then had hangar steak, salmon and shrimp risotto. Everything was delicious! The lentils are such a great compliment to the salmon, I'll be trying that at home. Recommended wines were terrific. I can't wait to go back!

Amazing food! French onion soup, ratatouille, trout, gnocchi (my favorite) - every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious! The outside seating area is beautiful and cozy. Even though you're sitting near the walking street, the seating area is separated by tall and thick greenery so even when people walk by it still feels private. On Saturday afternoon when we were dining there were a few musicians that set up to play beautiful live music that added extra charm! The waitress and the servers were timely, professional, and pleasant. I've had a great time here!

This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants on the whole downtown mall. It’s both elegant and casual. The prices are agreeable and the food is excellent — better than most places on the mall that charge much more. Their patio surrounded by greenery is just lovely to chill on. And I haven’t had one bad experience with the staff. They’ve all been friendly, welcoming and charming. The salmon dish is my absolute favorite — when the salmon is not overcooked it’s actually one of my favorite dishes, ever. The mussels are also fantastic. The Chardonnay pairs well with both. The menu at large is intriguing and diverse yet simple. Keep going guys, and I’ve got your back!

Visited the city with some friends and got dinner here. The staff were very engaging and fun and we enjoyed chatting with them about the menu. The food was great. I enjoyed the soup and pork. The pork was good but I liked everyone else's food a little more. Had a really nice time and would definitely go back.

Pizza restaurant
Italian restaurant
Neapolitan restaurant
Lampo Neapolitan Pizzeria is a popular spot in Charlottesville, known for its high-quality, updated Neapolitan-style pizza and snacks. The rustic-chic decor adds to the charm of this cozy restaurant. With a wood-burning oven that produces authentic Italian flavors, the pizzas are a must-try. Despite its small size, the restaurant offers outdoor seating during warmer months and is rumored to be expanding due to its popularity.
The pizza and service were both excellent. The space is a bit small, so it may not be the best choice if you prefer a more open or spread-out setting.
Virginia D — Google review
I want to love this place like everyone else, but I just didn’t. I thought the pizza tasted really good, but it took a long time for it to come out and the crust was a little too burnt. The toppings slid off one of our pizzas really easily as well, which was too bad. We came early on a weekday when it was snowing so we were seated right away, but I don’t think the experience would be worth waiting for a table.
Emme T — Google review
Lampo continues to knock it out of the park with bold flavors and perfectly balanced dishes that make you rethink what casual Italian should taste like. The Caesar salad with white anchovy was a standout right from the start—unexpectedly bright and punchy without any overpowering fishiness. The anchovy added a salty, umami depth that worked in perfect harmony with the tangy Caesar dressing. The porchetta sandwich? Unreal. Rich, herbaceous, and deeply satisfying, especially when you drizzle on their house hot sauce. It’s the kind of sandwich you crave again the moment you finish it. Their Margherita pizza came out hot, fresh, and steamy—the dough chewy and blistered in all the right places, the tomato and cheese combo comforting and classic. Simple, but absolutely worth every bite. But the sleeper hit of the night was the Pauline Gee pizza. This one had attitude. The spicy salami and sweet honey made for an addictive sweet-spicy combo, and the oiliness gave it that indulgent edge without going overboard. Spunky, rich, and wildly satisfying. Lampo isn’t just a pizza spot—it’s a whole flavor experience.
Ahri A — Google review
I want to start off positively by saying the food and drink were very good and exactly what I wanted and expected. My friend and I shared a delicious tomato sandwich on house-made bread. It was really delicious and had the right amount of sauce on it. We each got a tomato vodka martini which was very soft in flavor, but pleasant to drink. Now onto the negative aspect of the review. I think the service staff could use some additional training on table-side behaviors. Our waitress didn't talk to us about the menu at all (it was pretty tiny for the Tomato Tomato festival next door), which I thought added a coldness to our experience despite her mild mannered demeanor. It was busy, but having a 15 to 30 second chat with a table shouldn't be too much to ask. When we got our sandwich it only came with one plate despite me telling the server we were sharing the one sandwich... Okay, that could be chalked up to someone other than the server bringing us the food. But the runner didn't notice either that there was one plate for two people? One of the guys in the kitchen walked a side plate over and handed it to my friend who was eating over a napkin (which I had to ask for) at this point. I feel conflicted. The service absolutely needs work, but everyone was very nice who I spoke to. Their biggest issue is not paying attention to what's going on around them, or predicting what the guest will need - two things that were emphasized to me when I was a server at multiple establishments.
Kaitlin J — Google review
We were lucky to make it to the first cohort to enter the restaurant when it was opened at 5 pm. We arrived 10 min before 5 and the line was in already. The farro salad was creative and delicious. The pizza crust was soft and thin. Both the margarita and fungi pizza were amazing and just right. I heard that they have a take out joint, I might try if I need to.

Attended a graduation party in the back room - the food, drinks and service were fabulous. Would go back especially because of the service.

Great place to eat and enjoy drinks. We finally made it here to enjoy the hype, a recommendation that was well worth it. Everything that we ate was tasty and fresh, perfectly done. Staff was courteous and on point, delivering nothing but stellar service. Warning, there can be a wait since this place is known for its quality (but it's well worth it). On the day that we visited we probably waited 15-20 minutes to get a table, which didn't seem long to me. Once seated the food and drinks rolled out not soon after ordering. Restaurant is pretty clean, cozy and compact on the inside with additional seating on the outside. Definitely worth multiple visits and check out their wood fired oven!! Thanks for a great experience Lampo!!
Kevin W — Google review
I wanted to like this place better. The pizza itself - the Margherita was good - but the service! They clearly forgot about us, serving at least two other tables that were seated after us. Only when we asked if they could cancel the order they remembered us. Turns out, they did it to another table and when that gentlemen asked to see the manager outside, he was told it was only 30 minutes wait. Dude, we have watches, too. If you make a mistake, own it. Stuff happens. Won’t be back. Also insulted by the mandatory 18% gratuity they put on our table for 2. They e clearly bought into their own hype.

MarieBette Café and Bakery is a charming European-style eatery known for its exceptional pastries like brioche feuilletee and the original Prezzant, a pretzel-croissant hybrid. The café offers outdoor seating and serves breakfast, lunch fare, cakes, and on-the-go coffee. It's a popular spot for brunch with a light sit-down menu featuring baked eggs and sourdough breakfast sandwiches.
Everything from here is fantastic. I've visited many times. This time I tasted both my go-to everything bagel seasoned pastry pretzel and a seasonal king cake. The king cake had an almond that was so light and balanced and wasn't overly sweet. It was perfect. Highly recommend!

Perfect and delicious place for light breakfast & coffee- well, lattes. You can order a more robust & hearty breakfast, but we chose a variety of pastries - chocolate croissant, 2 other smaller ones (don’t recall names) and an apple tart. I wished that I would have taken photos of the beautiful decorated/stenciled in flour or powdered sugar breads & desserts- works of art! We got there just before the line had to moved outside, but it moved pretty quickly. We got our order to go, but we decided to sit down at a table that was available to enjoy it.

here are a few areas for outdoor seating and a small area inside for seating, as such, they were full and there was an hour wait for seating. We had time so we waited and it went much faster than expected. You order at the counter and get a number for your table. It is self-seating and no reservations. There's a separate nearby station which has silverware, condiments, and self-serve water. We ordered a London Fog, Latte, Almond Croissant, Parfait, Sharondale, and "Madame" (with an egg) Croquet Monsieur.

When I come to Charlottesville I always need to stop by MarieBette. Love this little café with its wonderful array of desserts. I must admit their cannelés are my weakness. Their quiches are delicious. I always leave with baguette, croissants, and a few other viennoiseries. Being French I can’t resist:) The atmosphere is great and the people working there are always helpful and kind. A must visit.

Perfect little specialty shop for coffee and baked treats. The caneles (pictured) are specifically what we stopped in to get while visiting Charlottesville. Also enjoyed a couple of iced coffees which complimented the pastries very nicely. The parking lot and pedestrian traffic stay pretty busy so be careful when pulling in or out of the lot.

Had high hopes for this place since it is supposed to be a high end coffee roaster. Only one person working, and he was in no hurry. Someone asked if he was all by himself, he replied that someone was in back but he as “fine. We purchased two drinks and two pounds of coffee. Asked for extra hot…and waited and waited. An attractive young woman came in and got her coffee immediately. Finally the saw us sitting there and said “what did you have” and pointed to a coffee on the counter that had been sitting there for 5 min (and never been told) and the second was almost ready. Flavor was good but both were lukewarm, as was our experience for $60

We were passing through Charlottesville before our tour of Monticello and were looking for a coffee shop with a historic slice of life and charming vibe. We stopped at the right place. Our barista was a coffee connoisseur who educated us on flavor profiles. We're not that picky, so we both had the caramel latte and got some banana bread. The only thing I would say is that it's a little pricey, around $30 for the two of us. However, it was good coffee and a great atmosphere in a great location. We loved the warm, cozy decor and the paintings of different places. It looks like a popular place because there were consistent customers, but it never felt crowded because of the openness of the room and people getting things to go. I recommend dining in because of the chill vibe. If we're ever passing through, we'll probably come back.

A few friends and I stopped by here to get some work done before an evening concert. This was a great place to post up, they have fast wifi, lots of seating, and easily accessible outlets. My girlfriend and I recently stayed near this coffee shop during our trip to Virginia. I would’ve given this coffee shop 10 stars, if I could! The coffee was consistently great everyday. A rarity, in my humble opinion. The service was even better! As someone who truly loves quality coffee and attention to detail, I cannot recommend this Mudhouse Specialty Coffee Roasters enough!

I’m in love and I may literally never leave, sitting cross cross on a wooden window seat with pillows. Sigh! The barista was kind and knowledgeable, handling a long line alone with ease and grace and not turning away our pour over request. My vanilla oatmilk latte was absolutely delicious. Top 2 in the state I’ve had so far… lip smacking delicious. The pour over was great as well! The vibe is chill…not pretentious at all. Clientele on a Friday morning was a nice mix of all very sweet people…holding doors for one another, kiddos, people working, etc. My only regret is that I don’t live closer to come more often!!

Crush Pad Wines is a unique and upscale concept that combines a city wine shop with a cozy neighborhood wine bar. The ambiance is luxurious yet unpretentious, offering a welcoming environment for wine enthusiasts. The knowledgeable staff is eager to assist patrons in selecting the perfect bottle or suggesting food pairings from the small plates menu. Visitors can enjoy by-the-glass or bottle offerings and even order pizza, pasta, salad, and dessert from Luce to be delivered to their table.
We stumbled upon Crush Pad Wines and instantly loved it. The atmosphere was cozy, and the service was exceptional, with staff who were incredibly knowledgeable about their wines. The rosemary bread was unforgettable—the best bread I’ve ever had in my life. We enjoyed our visit so much that we returned a second time before leaving. It’s a perfect spot for wine lovers looking for a laid-back yet high-quality experience. Highly recommend!

We had the sparkling wine of the night which i believe was a Rose, a white cranberry cosmo, a delicious pizza (cant remember the name) and the bolo pasta. we loved everything! except the white cosmos, we told the waitress and she brought us some juice and then it was delicious lol.

Pound for pound, Crushpad can go up against the best wine bars in the world. The service, selection, location, pricing, decor, and atmosphere are all on point. Keep up the good work Crushpad! Because of the reps I've put in at Crushpad, I've been able to comfortably navigate wine bars from Florence to Paris. Wine can be intimidating, but Crushpad is there to hold your hand and give you the experience needed to navigate fine wine with comfort and confidence so you don't look or feel like a tourist when you're abroad - granted, I will always look like a tourist, but that is besides the point... This place is 5-stars before you consider their special dinners, distributor tastings, or incredible regional wine tasting events. As a local, I do find myself going here more for the special events, but I think that is because I'd be here every night if I didn't set up some sort of personal boundaries. Notice - Yes there is a $15 corkage fee per bottle. This may feel like nickel-and-diming, but it is a heck of a lot better than the alternative to charge you the typical 300% markup. Go explore some amazing wines that are specifically curated by a knowledgable staff. If you think it is a 'bad deal' look up the prices per bottle at any other restaurant and I'm confident you'd realize that you're actually sitting in a very special place that is actually trying to take care of you, not swindle you. Their bathroom has dope wallpaper. I'm not sure if its a thing about bathrooms at wine bars flexing on each other by how cool and over there top bathrooms are decorated, but its a vibe and I'm here for it.

Restaurant
The Ivy Inn Restaurant offers a refined dining experience in an early 19th-century house with a charming Old Virginia ambiance. This family-owned establishment has been serving locavore American cuisine for over 20 years, featuring a menu inspired by locally available ingredients. Situated just west of downtown Charlottesville and near the University of Virginia, it's an ideal spot for a romantic dinner or a relaxing meal after exploring the city.
Dined here for my birthday and left super happy! The food and service, both excellent. The setup is very cozy and even though there were a lot of people, it felt private due to the multi floor setting. Our server, Robert was awesome and he made some great suggestions. They started with some fresh warm bread, butter and a couple of mini pimento crostinis. Then we got a couple of cocktails and the mains. Their sticky toffee dessert was SO good. All in all, highly recommend!

The Ivy Inn nails that perfect balance of charm and fine dining. It’s the kind of spot you take your bougie Northern Virginia relatives to when you want to impress—and it absolutely delivers. Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but the food justifies every dollar. The corn ravioli might be the best ravioli I’ve ever had—rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The meats were cooked to perfection, and the trout? Hands down the best representation of fish I’ve ever tasted. Served in a cozy, historic inn with great ambiance, Ivy Inn manages to feel both upscale and inviting. A Charlottesville gem.

Excellent experience here from beginning to end. We are here visiting my niece who is graduating this spring and what a wonderful meal to celebrate her accomplishment. We sampled many things on the menu and everything was excellent. Creamy Five Onion Soup (with Country Ham & Membrillo Grilled Cheese) - excellent start with a rich, complex savory soup. I didn't even miss the mini grilled ham and cheese accompaniment they forgot :( But my wife enjoyed mine and hers with her serving of soup later in the meal. Sweet Potato Empanadas (Black Beans, Chipotle Salsa, Avocado, Lime Cream) - I am not sure if this was the exact empanadas we had but they were excellent, especially the accompanying sauce. The Ivy Mixed Greens (Beets, Cukes, Radishes, Vella Dry Jack Cheese, Creamy Basil Vinaigrette) - solid salad, great creamy dressing. Stuffed Date Salad (Romaine, Kale, Radicchio, Goat Cheese, White Balsamic, Pistachios) - a little drier as a salad, couple have used some more balsamic but the goat cheese and dates were excellent. Grilled Certified Angus Beef Tenderloin (Potato-Short Rib Pierogi, Creamed Greens, Cabernet Sauce) - excellent cut of steak, very tender and flavorful and loved the creamed greens and the pierogi was a nice touch. Creamy Mac'n Three Cheese (Cheddar, Vlahotiri, Parmigiano) - my daughter and all of us loved their Mac n Cheese, hard to overstate how tasty this simple dish was. Service was friendly, engaged, and helpful. Atmosphere in this cozy, rustic but still refined setting was great.

Absolutely fantastic food, great wine selection including lots of local offerings, and none of the pretense that you’d typically expect of a restaurant of this caliber. We got the tuna crudo to start - beautiful balance of umami, salt, sweetness, and spice. For entrees, she got the chicken breast cordon bleu - loved the salt bomb from the country ham balanced against the creamy potatoes. I couldn’t decide on a pasta, so I got Italian surf and turf - half-orders of the gnocchi bolognese and the shrimp and crab pasta. Both were fantastic, showing off the protein without letting it dominate the dish. We closed with the sticky toffee pudding. If you could coalesce bourbon into a perfect dessert, this would be it. Combine all that with stellar service, and I’m perfectly willing to overlook the close proximity and audible conversations of other patrons. Overall, I highly recommend Ivy Inn for a great meal on any notable occasion.

Absolute gem. I’m embarrassed to say I’ve lived in Charlottesville yet never been here. This is the first time and an exciting to chapter of date nights have begun! Top notch from start to end. A wonderful culinary experience and a phenomenal menu to boot! I could keep writing words that could describe the time my wife and I had but my thumbs would be blistered. Do yourself a favor and experience a truly mouth watering experience and go to The Ivy Inn.

I hesitate to call an evening perfect, but the Ivy Inn in Charlottesville Virginia delivered that and much more. This wonderful restaurant was beautiful outside and the interior was incredible. When making the reservations a few days earlier, we were asked if this was a special occasion and I told them that we were celebrating our 4th anniversary. We had done a lot of research and heard that the Ivy Inn would exceed our expectations. When we arrived, we were shown to our table and presented with customized menus celebrating our anniversary. The staff also provided champagne for us just to get the evening going. I had the crab and shrimp tagliolini which was served with tomato basil butter, lemon parmesan, and garlic bread crumbs. This entree was superb! My husband had the Maryland jumbo lump crab cake with a hash brown potato, vegetable slaw, and a homemade remoulade sauce. With apologies to our family in Maryland, this was the best crab cake he ever had. For dessert, I had a creme brulee that was sheer perfection and my husband had an amazing key lime pie. What made this evening magical was the impeccable service that we received and the professionalism displayed by the Ivy Inn staff. Also, we looked at each other and said that for each of us this was the first time we had ever seen an establishment execute a dinner with this level of flavor without some detail that could have been better. Folks, this food and service is as good as it gets. We plan to come back again on this day next year. If you ever travel to Charlottesville and want an exquisite eating experience, we highly recommend this place. 😎❤️

We recently visited The Ivy Inn in Charlottesville, and it was absolutely unforgettable. From the moment we walked in, the warm atmosphere and attentive service made us feel welcomed and special. Kyle, our server, was fantastic and made the evening even more enjoyable. The food was outstanding and truly memorable. We started with the Spinach Bibb and Blue Salad with White Balsamic dressing, which was fresh, vibrant, and perfectly balanced. The Crispy Pork Belly was incredible, and we highly recommend that appetizer. For our mains, my husband had the Grilled Certified Angus Beef Tenderloin, cooked to perfection, and I had the Pan Roasted Chicken Breast "Cordon Bleu," which was bursting with flavor. The twice-baked sweet potato was rich, creamy, and absolutely WOW. The Creamy Greens with Smoked Bacon were full of flavor (yummy), and the Crispy Grit Cake was absolutely delicious. Every dish reflected artistry and passion in the kitchen. The Ivy Inn is a true gem, and we cannot wait to come back for another special meal. FIVE stars all the way.

We dined here for our anniversary. The restaurant went out their way to make it special with small thoughtful extras. My steak was perfectly cooked and delicious. Dessert was a treat! Cocktails were very tasty. A nice evening.

Gastropub
Restaurant
The Local is a popular downtown Charlottesville restaurant known for its New American cuisine and extensive wine selection. The farm-to-table gastropub offers a diverse menu featuring fresh ingredients sourced from local farms. Dishes include Caromont Goat Cheese Salad, Fried Cauliflower and Brussels Sprouts, Crispy Shrimp, Berkshire pork chop, locally-reared meatloaf, crispy trout, local braised short ribs, and gnocchi bolognese.
Nice staff and very accomodating (we were late for our reservation). Our waitress was very knowledge about the menu and made great recommendations. The crab soup (cream of crab) was amazing. Almost had like a buttery taste to it. Perfect flavor and for $8 for a bowl, can’t beat it! I enjoyed the steak fries but wish it was cut some more. It was flavorful and cooked perfectly. I didn’t try the salmon but my friend cleared their plate so I think it was a hit! Delicious drinks too and the ambiance chill, small, and very much like a local spot.

We went to try something new for restaurant week, and had some great food, but overall it was very inconsistent so I'll rate each dish. Drinks, my wife had a beer so no rating there, I had a cherry blossom. Forgot to take a picture, but it was very tasty (Catoctin Creek Gin, Saint Germain, Lemon Juice, local honey and Bordeaux cherry juice). Garnish was a bit boring (one cherry in the bottom) and double straining would have gone a long way as mine had a lot of little ice bits leftover from shaking 4/5 For appetizers we had the Bison Empanada and Fried Cauliflower & Brussels Sprouts. Bison Empanada was very good. The dough was crispy and the cilantro crema was delicious. The filling could have had a bit more flavor so the empanada could stand on it's own, but overall very good 4/5 Fried Cauliflower & Brussels Sprouts was the miss for this course. Presentation was nice, but the brussels sprouts were quite undercooked, so very hard and the sauce was completely inappropriate for an otherwise elevated plate of veggies. They called it a "sriracha aioli", but it was burger/fry sauce. Tasty on it's own, but did not fit this dish at all. 2/5 For entrees we had the Bison Short Ribs and Buttermilk-Brined Fried Chicken. Bison short ribs were quite delicious. The short rib was fork tender, the sauce was good, and the mashed potatoes were a nice side. The carrots were barely cooked though and far too hard. 4.5/5 Buttermilk-Brined Fried Chicken was not as good. Presentation looked good enough, but hiding bone in chicken between the slaw and mashed potatoes surely didn't make it easier to eat... The chicken itself, cooked to perfection. The skin was crispy, meat was juicy, perfect. The breading definitely could have been seasoned more though as there wasn't much going on flavor wise. This didn't bode well for the rest of the dish as the "southern slaw" was barely dressed at all and the "hot sauce gastrique" was a small swipe of buffalo/franks/whatever you want to call it. The potatoes were good (seemingly the same as the short rib ones), but surely didn't provide the flavor the dish needed. Like the brussels sprouts & cauliflower, the sauce just seemed so out of place and this dish really needed something to give it some flavor. A better dressed slaw and a proper sauce would elevate this dish so much, but as we had it 2.5/5 For dessert we had both options the Flourless Chocolate Cake and the Basque Cheesecake Flourless Chocolate Cake, no notes. It was smooth, creamy, and delicious. 5/5 Basque Cheesecake was bad, actually may have been the first cheesecake I've ever not finished. It seemed like it was overcooked as it was quite grainy and you could see the top was quite dark under the berries. It was also served to us crazy cold, like slightly above freezing. Flavor wasn't bad, but execution was off. 1.5/5 So yeah, depending on the adventure you chose, you either got really good food or would have been quite disappointed, a true roller coaster of courses was experienced.

Great little place in C-Ville. The food is terrific, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. We had the cheese board and cauliflower/Brussel sprout appetizer. The appetizer was really good, strongly recommend. The mushroom pasta and the fried chicken breast were well cooked. A ton of mushrooms in the pasta. Very good wine list thats not overpriced or overwhelming. Very worth the visit.

Went here from a recommendation. Had the steak and meatloaf. Personally not my favorite steak, was underwhelming and bits of grisle. The meatloaf was great. Drinks on the pricey side at 16 bucks and weren't anything special. Sat outside with our dog. Believe a staff member came out to smoke right in front of the restaurant and us eating, was a bit off setting having to smell that.

We picked The Local based on the menu options. We were traveling and didn't want anything fast, so we looked up food near me. The Local popped up, was rated high and we always enjoy seeing fresh food options and unique entrees, so decided to give them a try. When we arrived, the ambience appeared to be casual and comfortable. Our focus is always the food, service, and ambiance. All areas met my expectations. I was excited about the crab soup, but unfortunately sold out. My other appetizer options were crispy shrimp and fried cauliflower & Brussel sprouts. The flavor of the aioli and seaweed salad on the crispy shrimp was top notch flavorful as well as Sriracha aioli on cauliflower dish. I would have been happy with both as my main dish. Our entree was Crispy Fried Trout, a unique twist on fish. I've never had fish with okra. It made the dish a bit heavy, but I enjoyed it. The fish was perfectly cooked and fresh, it was the rice and sauce that made it heavy. Not sure if I would order again as I prefer my fish with light flavors. Overall, we enjoyed dining here and our server was pleasant, attentive and personable. Give it a try, I'm sure you will enjoy your experience.

I have been here once for a wedding rehearsal dinner and once for dinner with a friend. The staff both times have been kind and taken great care of us, even being a large party. The brussel sprouts are top notch, could have used a bit more sauce but cooked perfectly and pair well with the cauliflower. The chicken and mac n cheese was wonderful, perfectly crispy and not too heave. Thank you for the lovely experiences.

Warm, brick-walled spot with that perfect mix of comfort and class. The fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese were killer, and the bourbon-glazed pork chop was cooked to perfection. Service was easygoing, the crowd laid-back, and everything felt genuine — just real Virginia hospitality done right.

Went for Restaurant Week. The dish that got me to go was the truffle gnocchi and unfortunately it was my least fave dish of the night. The mushrooms were delicious. The gnocchi were soft and creamy but the whole dish was too soft. No extra texture and the portion was massive. The salad was a little dry. The tiramisu was my favorite thing of the night. Partner got a soup he loved, a meatloaf he thought was okay and loved the pimento mac and cheese, and loved his peanut butter brownie. I may have just ordered the wrong thing but I personally wouldn't order the gnocchi again.

Nestled in the Main Street Market, Orzo Kitchen & Wine Bar offers a cozy industrial-chic setting to savor Mediterranean cuisine. Drawing inspiration from Italy, Greece, Spain, and the South of France, their menu features delectable orzo alongside branzino, risotto, and international delights like coca de trampo. The restaurant's ambiance reflects the owners' Mediterranean travels with soulful cooking and warm hospitality.
Orzo is a lovely restaurant with a thoughtful, seasonal approach to dining and genuinely kind service. The moment we sat down, we were welcomed with a dish of house-made olives—briny, bold, and a great way to start the meal. They rotate their menu seasonally, and the current summer offerings were fresh and ingredient-forward, leaning Mediterranean but not strictly Italian. One standout was the salmon crudo—thinly sliced raw salmon paired with capers, evoking the richness of salmon lox but with the clean presentation of sashimi. It was a surprising and elegant bite that felt both decadent and refreshing. Although not on the summer menu, I ordered the beef tenderloin, and it was cooked perfectly to my liking. The rich, savory gravy elevated the dish and made it a satisfying contrast to the lighter starters. Orzo strikes a great balance between casual elegance and inventive cuisine. I loved the vibe, and I’d absolutely come back.

We enjoyed a business dinner for 9 people and had an fantastic experience. The atmosphere is great, the service is 1st class, and the food was excellant. They also had a great bar, albeit with limited seating, but looked like a great spot to hang and enjoy a nice meal. The Martini's are also very good. I look forward to eating here again. Appropriate for business, casual, and date nights.

My first restaurant post-move-in to Charlottesville, and it was FANTASTIC! I cannot recommend Orzo enough, and I’m already starting to feel the charm of Virginia. The food was delicious, and so was the atmosphere. Shoutout as well to our server, Stephen, who made the night quite enjoyable. A friendly face is always comforting when moving to a new city, so having a kind server who took the time to chat with us was great. Once we were seated, we started with the 2020 Artimino Poggilarca Super Tuscan. The price was reasonable relative to the quality of the wine. Orzo is an Italian restaurant, so why not go with a Super Tuscan, am I right? Next time I might splurge on the Super-Duper Tuscan—haha! Moving on to the food, we started with the halloumi and some bread. The halloumi was delicious, and we all particularly loved the sauce that accompanied it. Stephen mentioned they made it with ouzo, which I usually do not care for, but cooking it together with the other flavors in the sauce changed my mind! The bread, I believe, is freshly baked, and they serve it with great olive oil. Having family in Italy and close friends from Greece means I’ve enjoyed great olive oil—and this was really good olive oil. For our mains, two of us had the Risotto D’Estate, one had the braised lamb, and another had the grilled fish. I do want to preface that the fish and the lamb were from their rotating “Passport Menu,” which Stephen said changes every 4–6 weeks. Regardless, the quality of the dishes tells me that whatever they have on this changing part of the menu will be good no matter what. The fish was a light, delicate cod with the right amount of smokiness and earthiness. The vegetables that came with the dish were well seasoned and not too mushy either. The braised lamb was very tender, and the quality of the meat was clearly good. The accompanying sauce had great flavors. For the two of us who had the risotto, we were also very happy! This is the dish I had, and it was a lovely blend of flavors. The pistachios in it balanced out the salty/sour-ish (not the best word, but you’ll know what I mean) flavor from the cheese in the dish. It was outstanding. Finally, we capped off the meal with a tiramisu, the chocolate pot de crème, and some limoncello. The limoncello, I should add, is made in-house—and OH, that was a treat! I didn’t try the tiramisu, but was told the creaminess was perfect. Some tiramisus can be too watery and the ladyfingers dry, but that was not the case here. Similarly, my pot de crème was to die for! I am a chocoholic and have been baking/making sweet treats for nearly a decade now, so I know a good dessert when I try one. The only thing they could add to their menu is espresso! They have regular coffee, but an espresso is really what I enjoy after dinner. Overall, we had a fabulous meal, and I cannot recommend Orzo enough. For my first culinary endeavor in my new home of Charlottesville, I could not be happier. Please check out Orzo—and say hello to my new friend Stephen.

We were in town for a triathlon and need to carb up. We received more than we bargained for. Service was top notch. Steven made sure we were happy and take. Care of. The Moroccan menu is spectacular- don’t miss it. We lived in Italy and had homemade Limoncello, but there’s is even better. The Salmon was prepared perfectly and the pasta was al dente! Do not miss out on a great meal!

It's my first time in Charlottesville. We were looking for a good meal not far from our hotel. We just happened to walk by Orzo and the menu looked great. I had a paper plane cocktail to start. It was very good. The Fish Special was excellent! It was rockfish. Flavor was great and plenty of sauce unlike many other places. The flavors complimented each other perfectly. The hummus was also very good. Always love a good baguette! This place did not disappoint!

Today I had the chance to try this restaurant during Restaurant Week, and I was truly impressed by the delicious flavors and the warm, friendly service. Tip Top Restaurant, located on Pantops Mountain in Charlottesville, Virginia, offers a relaxed atmosphere with retro decor and a diverse menu featuring classic diner dishes. The restaurant is known for serving breakfast all day and incorporating Greek-inspired flavors into their offerings. Under new ownership, Tip Top continues to attract a bustling crowd with its satisfying meals. The establishment's history as a former Howard Johnson's restaurant adds to its nostalgic charm.
Came here for breakfast with my wife and enjoyed our experience here. The menu has a lot of good options and the portion sizes were very big, I could barely finish my meal. I particularly liked the corned beef hash, which you don’t often see on menus so I had to get it. The eggs were eggs (hard to mess up) and the home fries were good too. It has an old timer diner feel that I enjoyed as well. Would recommend coming here if you’re in the area, especially for breakfast

Fun restaurant to visit. Nice, bright and well maintained. You can order breakfast all day so naturally we ordered pancakes, eggs and bacon. Service is friendly and fairly quick. Also had a chef salad which was very fresh and amply sized. Bacon was a little skimpy but tasty. Also had a toasted Genoa salami sub, while decent, wasn’t thoroughly toasted. Depute the minor nitpicks this is a great restaurant and will return. It is a little difficult to find if you’ve never been here before. If you are heading West, it is immediately after the Carmax. Parking up front seems to be taken most of the time but there is plenty more parking in the back. This is a popular local restaurant so you may need to be patient if visiting during peak times.

I should have gotten breakfast. The onion rings were room temperature onion slices wrapped in undercooked batter and grease ooze. The hamburger was warm and tasty and my wife's pasta was hot and delicious. Service was about what I expect from a 'one hit wonder' place...couldn't have cared less if anything was off or if we were alive or not. I understand this place wins all sorts of awards...wish those workers had been on duty when we were there...maybe I wouldn't be regretting not having had breakfast at 630pm.

My husband and I sat down for dinner on Friday, March 20th, 2025. We were seated immediately. I did not get our waitress name as she didn’t give it. Our waitress smelled strongly of cigarette smoke like it just hit us in the face. We gave her our beverage and food order at the same time and we still waited several minutes for our drinks. other people who came in after us had their drinks before we did. And let me point out yall were not that busy at all at the current time. My husband ordered a chicken parm sub with fries and I ordered a sausage parm sub with fries . We got our subs but we didn’t get the fries we wanted. We were served chips instead which is not what we wanted . One half of my sub literally has one piece of small sausage on it and the rest was bread and sauce. Also it was extremely unpleasant when I took a bite into my sub and it had a whole bay leaf in it. You all normally do not disappoint but yall definitely did that night. #1. Not a pleasant smell cigarette smoke. #2. Waiting for our drinks #3. Messed up food order #4 there was a whole bay leaf in a sub which is not edible or pleasant to bite into.

Popular local family restaurant. Very busy, but they are cranking food out like clockwork! Basic diner-style food. Not a huge menu selection, but they do good with what they offer. Friendly staff. Lot of parking in the back, but don't be dismayed if you have to wait a little bit...you'll get in pretty quick. It's noisy, but you can tell everyone is happily chatting.

American restaurant
The Virginian, established in 1923, is a cherished local establishment in Charlottesville. It offers classic American cuisine within a charming rustic setting. This spot is popular among UVA alums and those seeking an authentic wahoo bar experience. Located on University Avenue, it's part of the city's rich dining history. The menu may not be gourmet, but it's all about embracing tradition and savoring their renowned 'Stumble Down Mac N' Cheese.'
We visited on a Monday night around 6:30pm. We were sat almost immediately and given prompt drink service. Our food arrived pretty swiftly after as well. The food was great, and the portions were generous. My only demerit for the service was that after we paid our check, our waitress never returned with the box I had requested. We waited for several minutes, and eventually I grabbed my own box.

Still very reminiscent of a bar and restaurant founded in the early 1900’s. The atmosphere was very good. Has an upper and lower level. The food is amazing! Great choices. Our food came out hot, fast, and correct. Service at first was very good. It tapered off after our food was served. There are a few TV’s, but not considered a sports bar. Price was reasonable at about $30 a person. We did not partake in any drink specials. Dinner menu starts at 5PM.

Went for the institution it is. It's a tiny narrow restaurant. Service is good and food is nice too. We got a hummus platter and some drinks.

I came here on a whim for Sunday brunch today. It's an historic setting near campus, I suppose - maybe for someone who attended school here. ChatGPT highly recommended it, but the food was tragically underwhelming for the price. The coffee was the plain old weak restaurant variety and my table smelled of sour cleaning cloths. The service was OK, but not at all worth the hype, or the price. There are so many other better options nearby.
Jeff B — Google review
We waited 20 minutes before a waiter came over, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. We didn’t receive menus until they finally arrived, and the waiter never introduced themselves. The food took so long that one of us actually had to leave before it arrived. When they asked for a to-go box, they were bizarrely just handed a bag -- no box, which I’ve never seen before, in my life. The food itself was acceptable, but honestly, I’ve had much better here. Things only got worse when the check came. We were charged automatic gratuity for a party of five, and the excuse given was, “we always charge auto gratuity if we have to split checks.” On top of that, while some of us were getting cash out, the waiter left with our cards, and we had to chase them down. To finish it off, they didn’t even give us pens to sign the checks. Overall, a frustrating experience from start to finish. I’m definitely not coming back.

The Alley Light is a bistro-style restaurant in Charlottesville, Virginia that specializes in French small plates, boards and shareable dishes. The restaurant has a handsome bar for cocktails and wine, and also offers three- or four-course dinners.
We were in town for just a night and this place was recommended to us and we had a little trouble finding it but a quick phone call to the restaurant got us there. It was actually part of the fun. The food and service and cocktails here were absolutely wonderful. We were super hungry and ordered a bunch of small plates and the best for us were the scallops, the tenderloin, the goat cheese/endive salad and the chocolate giant macaron dessert. They make their own Limoncello in house which was delicious, and my Barbie cocktail was perfectly crafted.

Main dishes of beef tartar and chorizo broth mussels were excellent, but the sides were great as well. Brocollini was very flavorful and the carrots, yes the carrots were the star of the show. This is without a doubt the best restaurant in western Virginia! Almost a hidden gem, off an alley on downtown Charlotte’s 2nd Street and up a lovely staircase … the restaurant seems to take patrons back in time with a lovely dark wood interior and bar. Our meal was incredible, from delightful drinks (all bar mixers are housemade) to a seafood charcuterie board to delicious desserts. Highly recommend letting wait staff recommend menu items … Anna was instrumental in helping us choose our menu from a variety of large and small plates. Highly recommend!

Food was delicious, only reason 4/5 is due to the odd pacing of the meal and food coming out super quickly. We order 4-5 apps/shared and the filet main which we were told takes up to 40 min. However the filet ended up coming to the table before half of the starters had been sent out so it was just an odd pacing for the meal. Dessert was delicious, lovely wine list. Would visit again but we will just ask for a slower pacing next time we dine.

Bang! is a charming restaurant in Charlottesville, VA that offers a cozy atmosphere with stylish decor and a backlit bar. The menu features Asian-inspired tapas and inventive martinis, catering to various dietary preferences including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. The concept of sharing plates encourages interaction, making it an ideal spot for a date night.
Went for restaurant week in a group of 4 so we had 12 dishes. It was so much food. Favs were tuna crispy rice, chili garlic chicken noodles, tempura sweet potatoes, Korean beef spring rolls and duck ravioli. Update: Was there last weekend for a date night and it was amazing! I usually sit outside but we sat inside this time and the vibe was good. We ordered way too much food for two people 5 plates and 2 buns, we were stuffed and had a little food to take home. The service was good, sometimes it can be hard to get more drinks or water but we didn’t have that problem this time. Our favs this time were the tofu bun, firecracker shrimp and tuna crispy rice.

The service was great for sure. The food was complicated. The cauliflower was too greasy and oily… kinda ironic as a vegetarian tapas. The firecracker shrimp was pretty good, so was the Thai chicken spring rolls. We also tried the Duck noodles. It’s kinda interesting to use oyster sauce and duck at the same dish, but not bad, I really liked the noodle texture.

We had a fantastic Sunday dinner at Bang! The food and drinks were excellent. We ordered from the vegetarian menu and tried the Mushroom and Sesame Tofu Buns (mushroom was the standout), General Tso Cauliflower, Goat Cheese Dumplings, and Tempura Sweet Potatoes with Feta—all were delicious. Mango Mule and Bourbon Ginger Honey cocktails were strong and tasty. For dessert, the key lime cheesecake had a nice subtle lime flavor and it was pretty good Our server, Cameron, was helpful and provided great service. We sat outdoors and place had nice decor. Highly recommend!

All the food was amazing!! The cocktails were unbelievably good and really strong! They do not skimp!!! We tried the Not your Mother’s Mule and Bourbon Ginger Honey. Both were top! Key Lime Cheesecake was delicious too for dessert. Would highly recommend..

I love bang. I tell everyone it's one of my favorite restaurants. I'm leaving a bad review, because I'm here and the dining room is full and one girl is working the floor by herself. I also own a restaurant and I understand that payroll is difficult but it's pretty frustrating to not be able to get waited on (I had to go and find her after being ignored for about 15 minutes), not be able to get a check (come find her when I'd ask for the check 10 minutes ago) when I ask for a check. I'm here for the Film fest, and they can know months in advance when the film fest is going to be and have appropriate staff. I understand that they can pay them $2.19 or whatever and have them work the floor and put all the money into the kitchen staff, but it's pretty frustrating from a customer's perspective. I am leaving a bad review even though I love the restaurant because I want the owners to see this. I want to come to bang! every time I come to Charlottesville because it's cool. I like the vibe. But eventually . . . I won't come.

Basil Mediterranean Bistro is a cozy restaurant located at 109 14TH St NW, Charlottesville, VA. The bistro offers a wide range of Mediterranean cuisine and an impressive selection of global beers in a snug space with a patio. Their wine list features the best offerings from Greece and the Levant to complement their inspired dishes. Customers have praised the delicious hummus, spanakopita, bruschetta, and Turkish coffee.
Wonderful dinner at Basil Mediterranean Bistro. Greek style salad, Lamb Khabob Entree and Gelato to finish. Service was amazing. Just a nice little spot tucked away on the south side of Charlottesville.

This was our first time eating at Basil although actually we had carry out because of the Coronavirus. We ordered several dishes and ate them family style. We loved the hummus, spanakopita, and bruschetta!!! All 3 of those were delicious and we would definitely order those again. We thought the falafel and stuffed grape leaves were just fair and probably wouldn’t order again. Everything but the bruschetta came with hummus and pita triangles as well as lots of olives and small pickles. Lots of vegetarian options and we will order again sometime!!

Our lunch experience was fantastic! Excellent food, menu options and portions for an amazing price (things that are a little hard to find in one place here these days)! Our service was also excellent... Personable and attentive. They are still settling into their new digs, but don't let the deter you!

My boyfriend and I came here for a date and had a great experience! We sat outside which was lovely and our waiter as well as our food, was AWESOME! It couldn't have been a better experience for being our first eat out experience after being quarantined for so long. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great tasting food.

Rapture Restaurant is a trendy downtown eatery in Charlottesville, VA that offers high-concept Southern cuisine with a modern twist. Chef Chris Humphrey infuses local ingredients with his extensive French culinary experience to create playful renditions of familiar southern classics. The restaurant's moody ambiance and attached nightclub add to its allure, while the outdoor patio provides a vibrant setting on the Downtown Mall. LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Food tastes great, atmosphere is chill, music is good, and the pool tables are awesome. Staff is always nice too :)

$16 wings. Again, $16 for 8 wings. Were they good, yes. Are they bigger than your average wing ding, yes. But $16 good, the jury is still out on that one.

Made a reservation for a special occasion because I have always had good experiences with the service and food at Rapture. The waiter was very unfriendly and clearly annoyed by his role. We asked nothing of him and he was just not at all kind. He even gave us a timeline for when he expected us to be ready to order our food. The omelette was the size of a kid’s sized omelette and was served with a decent sized bowl of grits. The flavor was okay but definitely not worth the money. We were honestly shocked at the difference since our last brunch at Rapture.

Got a salad with a grilled chicken addon for $8. Came with maybe 4 strips of chicken breast. Don't be stingy guys. It's just not worth it. There's nothing worse than feeling like we didn't get our money's worth.

My boyfriend and I were visiting from out of state and were very happy with Rapture! The service from the hostess stand was outstanding. Cecelia, the owner and hostess, is very helpful and personable. She’s the reason we decided on eating at Rapture. She asked us what we were looking for and even recommended other reputable restaurants in the downtown mall district. But since she was honest and respectful, we decided to stick with Rapture. It helps that the burgers smelled amazing! It was windy for us. But on a non-windy night, it would be nice to eat on the patio and people watch while eating. Our server was good and his service was quick. The food was amazing. I highly recommend the fried green tomatoes and the papà legba burger. The steamed greens were surprisingly very tasty! If you want to play pool in the back of the restaurant, it’s $15 per hour. If you’re out of state and want to play just one game, Cecelia might allow you to play for free.
Lexie J — Google review
First off, our server, Amanda, was exceptionally amazing! There was outdoor and indoor seating, and we had an awesome time outside. The cocktails had names that were particularly eye catching and politically relevant. Needless to say the Mueller report cocktail had ingredients that had been redacted which made it an intriguing choice. I thought it was vodka based, but our server could neither confirm nor deny. Haha. You can check it out, and let the world know what you think. The stormy daniels cocktail and fried tomatoes appetizer were both great too. I tasted the pork chops with greens and black eyed peas and thought it was absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend a visit.
Michael B — Google review
We decided to try Rapture on a visit to the area. The food and drinks were so disappointing. The gumbo was sooo watery, and the nachos were so drenched they were soggy. The drinks were also horrible (way too strong and mixed oddly); the waiter said there was a new bartender, so maybe someone else will have a better experience. The waiter was responsive and to his credit, once I asked for a new drink, we didn’t share any complaints about the food or my husband’s drink. I know they can’t fix what they don’t know but I didn’t want to be a complainer who appeared to want to get a discount so we kept the rest of the feedback to ourselves. We tipped a full 20+% because the server was good and we always tip decently. The atmosphere was decent but the food and drink was disappointing.

American restaurant
Bar
Tavern & Grocery offers a relaxed and rustic setting where you can enjoy contemporary and local American cuisine, along with drinks and brunch. Housed in one of the oldest commercial structures in Charlottesville, dating back to 1820, this establishment has a rich history as it originally served as a grocery store and residence for the Inge family. The restaurant's name pays homage to its original function as a Tavern and Grocery.
We love this place. Ashley and her team do a wonderful job. We went for brunch, and the menu had been updated. Husband had the always delicious and perfect eggs benedict. I tried the new (to me) mushroom, brie and arugula omelet. The omelet was divine, the accompanying arugula salad was a perfect complement of acidity and salty to the richness of the omelet, and the frites were perfectly (double) cooked. I'd be remiss not to mention the homemade catchup that has a slight zing to it. and of course the mimosas! Always one of our favorite spots in Charlottesville.

Came to Charlottesville for a Valentine’s getaway. A few weeks before we looked at a bunch of local restaurants for a special dinner on the day. Tavern & Grocery did not indicate they were doing a Valentine’s prefix menu but had one up from last year so we guessed. The week of we received an email stating it was a prefix but the menu was not included nor was it on the website. Got to the restaurant and we’re seated promptly, incredible service, great cocktail menu. Prefix menu was presented and was more expensive than last year, which was fine but should have been shared ahead of time. Menu had a pork belly salad that was just ok, and a soup that was excellent. Mains included a showstopper bison steak but also a duck confit that was very light on duck and just didn’t stand up for the price. Mousse and torte desserts were both excellent. Overall loved the atmosphere and service but was disappointed by the prefix especially at a $75 per person price point. Would come again but not for a special occasion.

We got food from Tavern & Grocery but was seated in the Lost Saint area. The decor was super cute and vintage. Cocktails was decent. We went during restaurant week so they got fixed menu. Gotta say that the brussel sprouts were absolutely amazing. The rest was okay, at most. The salmon covered with black and white sesame seeds was just a bit extra. The sesame seeds were too strong and indecent of the salmon taste. The olive cake with berries was a bit dry. Service was also slow
Caimiao L — Google review
What a cute restaurant. It has very rustic feel but very cute as well. Food comes in a smaller portion but just the right amount. The taste was decent. We got the eggs Benedict which was decent. We also got the eggs Chesapeake which was tasty. The egg sandwich was tasty and slightly on small side. Food here does not overwhelmingly fill you up but it's just satisfyingly right portion.

Truly a treat. One of the best meals we had while visiting Charlottesville for several days. Service seemed a bit off that night ( as if something was wrong throughout the restaurant); you could sense it). But the staff was still focused on providing as good service as feasible.

We had a great experience here. Brought a large group of about 25 of us to dine. With that many people you hope for consistency in the meals and they delivered. Food was great. Staff were great and the owner was very friendly. If you get a chance to get downstairs the cocktails are exceptional 🤫

Chaps Ice Cream, situated in the heart of downtown Charlottesville, is a beloved institution known for its high-quality, homemade ice cream and nostalgic soda fountain classics. Established in 1985, this retro-style parlor offers a wide array of flavors made with super-fresh ingredients and often collaborates with local fruit producers to create unique and vibrant tastes. The charming 1950s-era diner setting adds to the experience, making it a popular spot for breakfast, lunch, and coffee as well.
I stopped in for a sweet treat to cool down and I am glad I did. Amazing choice of flavors... Amazing service. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere gives off a retro dinner feeling. The ice cream is fresh and delicious! I had the Black Raspberry, and it was like heaven! I will def be back!
Christopher C — Google review
I found the ice cream quite enjoyable, if not for the large pieces of ice in it. The cherry vanilla and black raspberry flavours were particularly delicious and creamy. During our visit, it was not busy. The staff seemed to be idle behind the counter and could have been more proactive. The establishment was dirty; the table and seating were full of used napkins and waffle cone debris, and there were no napkins at the tables, which was a bit disappointing.
Nancy — Google review
Retro feel ice cream parlor in a fun, downtown area. Our shake and malt were great.
Lauren T — Google review
It’s a very authentic ice cream place. You could tell that they’re going under renovations while trying to keep the style in the 40s/50s. There were a variety of original and unique flavors. The salted caramel is very good! Brownie points for them having a Coca Cola freezer/fridge pop machine for anyone with nostalgia.
Lexie J — Google review
Chaotic, no sense of which end the line starts so everyone is just jumbled up. I was told by one employee to go to 1 end, then after I move there he then calls other customers back to that side in front of me. Every person coming in was confused about where to go to order. Just put a sign up. And they were out of oreo ice cream so after all that I didn't get anything. I tried my daughter's chocolate shake. It was good but not very thick, too liquidy.
Alan T — Google review
This 5 star review is for the cookie dough. It is amazing. This is homemade ice cream at Chaps. The oreo ice cream was nothing to write home about. They have plenty of other flavors. I wanted to get the birthday cake or the mint chocolate chip but they were out of both of those. I will have to go back and try them out!!! They have several ice cream flavors to try. The ice cream takes a day to set and get ready so that is why she said they didn't have the birthday cake ice cream available. She was friendly. I am not sure if she is the owner or not. She was an older woman. The place inside isn't the nicest. It is pretty old and run down and typical looking for a place that is old. I am not sure how old it is or how long it has been around. It is highly rated on TripAdvisor, etc. so it is definitely a must if you love homemade ice cream. I don't think you will go wrong here. They offer donuts, cookies, some other desserts and breakfast and lunch as well but we have not tried any of those out. Prices are good for homemade ice cream too. I can't wait to go back.
Andrea ( — Google review
Such a gem of an ice cream shop. If you’ve never been here I implore you to check it out. The ice cream is simply delightful. I had the vanilla fudge and while I usually don’t like hard ice cream, it was still somewhat soft. It was kept as the perfect temperature for serving. The service is incredible here. The atmosphere transports you back to a simpler time. Highly recommend you give this place a try!

February 26, 2024 - Enjoy fresh made ice cream with the “ Fonz on TV’s Happy Days” ! Over 20 ice cream flavors it’s a difficult decision. Fun to look around this nostalgic ice cream shop, owner Tony Labua founded in 1985. One source mentions an Uncle who owned Chaps in 1963 in a different location. Currently UVA Professor Tami Kim owns Chaps ( since purchase in 2022). My wife and I couldn’t resist this delicious ice cream after dinner. She usually orders some kind of chocolate creation. I opted for a strawberry milkshake with chocolate syrup ! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼, with chunks of strawberry 🍓! Hey, I recall Bob Rose teaching us landscapes on tv in the 60’s & 70’s, over in the corner! You’ll notice a mock up Juke Box from the 50’s, behind the counter . . . Playing Beatles, Motown, and Ray Charles hits ! I highly recommend a walk, after that delicious ice cream from Chaps! 😃👍🏼

Located in the heart of Belmont neighborhood, Southern Crescent Galley and Bar offers a fun New Orleans-inspired menu with shared plates perfect for groups. The restaurant features a great outdoor porch seating area, making it an ideal spot for celebrations. With a blend of traditional fare from Louisiana, the Caribbean, and other parts of the American South, this family-owned establishment provides a lovely dining experience. Known for its excellent bar program featuring tropical tiki cocktails, the restaurant exudes a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.
Went for a drink on a Saturday night before dinner. We both had hurricanes, they were very good and we got happy hour pricing! We sat inside at the bar because it was chilly and the vibe is top notch.

Southern Crescent nails it with great Louisiana-style food served in a laid-back, loungey atmosphere. The mixed drinks and beer menu are on point — plenty of solid choices whether you're craving something strong or just want to sip and chill. Big bonus: it's dog-friendly! Our server was incredibly kind and even made sure my friend’s pup was taken care of. That’s the kind of Southern hospitality you love to see. Just a heads-up — there’s a lot of fried goodness on the menu. Gallbladders, proceed with caution. But honestly? Totally worth it. I’d come back in a heartbeat.
Ahri A — Google review
Overall, the experience has good and bad. They have really good cocktail. I got the lost lake. It is a mixture of pineapple, passionfruit, and lime. Low-key best ever. The service was also nice. The food was OK mediocre and pricey. The gumbo mug was $10 even though it was tiny. My friend got there po boy sandwich, they only got two hush puppies as the side???
Caimiao L — Google review
It's Friday night should have known better than to come here. The place was not packed. All the other restaurants adjacent to this one were packed with customers. Aesthetically, at first the vibe is old creole French Louisiana, buts is a run down old house. We sat outside, the metal furniture is rusted; doesn't work when you wearing light colored pants. We didn't see any rats, like other customers mentioned. The service was lacking big time. No enthusiasm to ask if you want a refill. Staff member was drinking as we could smell alcohol on them and could see them drinking behind the bar. We were not given napkins, had to ask. No plates to eat appetizers on. No utensils. Had to wave them down to get the entree order and then the check. There was only 3 couples there so not crowded. Water in carafe was luke warm. The table was sticky, so sticky my phone stuck to it... Yuck! The menu is lacking items from the online menu. We ordered the gator bites, not good. It was pureed ingredients. Don't know if there was actual meat in them. Ordered the oyster and shrimp po boy. It came with 2 tiny hush puppies. See photo. Oysters tasted like gritty mud. The batter could not mask it. French bread was soft which was the only plus, but the entire sandwich fell apart. As many reviews say the taste is bland and that is very true. No spice, no taste. Definitely not Creole inspired cuisine.
H B — Google review
Southern Crescent is such a hidden gem in Charlottesville. The patio is the perfect place to sit and unwind, and the food and drinks were delicious. The oysters were especially good! It’s an easy, laid-back spot for a great date night.

Southern Crescent is a fun and underrated spot in Belmont! They have a great happy hour and so many fun spots to sit and enjoy your drinks and food (cozy inside, patio, backyard with fire pits). We love the HH oysters as well! Friendly and attentive service makes this a must-stop spot in Cville.
Caylea — Google review
Sadly my first time here I won’t be back. Food was not good. I met my friends here and the waitress was attentive in the beginning but it went down hill from there. When it got busier she checked on us but we had to wait longer times than normal for the everything. I ordered the raw oysters and although they were fresh, there was a lot of dirt and shells in them. I was disappointed because it was the first time my friend tried one. She couldn’t even get enjoy it because of the sand. Our order came out all at different times even though we ordered our entrees at the same time. I waited a long time for my second drink and ended up cancelling it when the waitress told me after 10 minutes it was next in line. My friend ordered the Alligator bites which I’ve had in New Orleans and it there was no alligator meat. It was mostly dough. I own a business and when I mentioned to the waitress that there was hardly any meat she didn’t even acknowledge what I said. This was after we paid the bill and to just let her know that we didn’t like it and why. She didn’t seem to care. Maybe this was an off night, but I don’t think I will be back.
KayelynloveNFL — Google review
Wonderful setting and atmosphere! Very good drinks. Food needed more BAM as ours was bland. Catfish poboy was ok, good batter on fresh catfish. Remoulade was bland. Came with a few homemade chips. Hush puppies were good. Jambalaya was ok, lacking depth of flavor and spice. Odd service and ordering setup, you have to go to the counter and place your order and they hold your credit card. This leaves new customers waiting in line with those trying to pay to leave. Plus if you want another drink or more food, get in line.

Such a great find on our visit to Charlottesville, great beer, a great space, and great bartenders! The beer was innovative and flavorful, in the right way. Great night out with my girlfriend. We started with great cocktails. Then we got the mussels and French onion soup. Followed by steak frites and scallops. Then finished with cream brulee and baked Alaska. I highly recommend all of it with special mention going to the baked Alaska. It truly was a special dish among other special offerings. Our server Dillon was great and very knowledgeable about all of the ingredients. It was a wonderful date night.

EDIT as of February 2025: After thoughtful and kind outreach from Jonathan and the team at Café Frank, I returned during Winter Restaurant Week to give it another try! Service by Dillon was great, he is friendly, candid, and helpful. Even on a busy evening, he made sure to check in with myself and the tables around me several times. My favorite course this time was probably the dessert, a take on creme brûlée with a lemon and cinnamon sugar twist. Other dishes included the orzo and kale soup, and the salmon main. I enjoyed both. Thanks for a great meal, great service, and an opportunity to give this restaurant a second chance. ____ Disappointed -- we wanted to try Cafe Frank for a long time and finally did during summer restaurant week. Service was great, but the food was not. My partner started with the chicken mousse, which did not look appetizing and was served with only two crostini. The beet gazpacho was not tasteful either, and the small piece of fish for the main was very dry and overcooked. The osso bucco was too salty and the risotto underneath was flavorless. And the panna cotta for dessert did not taste like panna cotta (it was not good). Too bad, because we really wanted to enjoy this spot
Caylea — Google review
We are from out of town and is our second time at Frank’s. First time it was very late, the place was almost full, no reservation AND they made their best to accommodate us despite the circumstances. We had been traveling for hours and we were very tired. We couldn’t have been luckier to come across this beautiful and calm atmosphere. Food is incredibly delicious, staff are so friendly and knowledgeable of their dishes and the place is just perfect. We wish we lived closer so we could visit more time. Cheers!

Not good. The seafood was not fresh and the duck confit I had was not flavorful at all. It was so disappointing because the restaurant looked beautiful. With the price tag of the food on the menu, I expected much more but I don’t think I would ever come back.

Out of town, had anniversary dinner here during restaurant week. Everything from food to service to cocktails was a huge hit. Our waiter (thank you Dillon!!!!) was a pro - super attentive. Came over with a napkin before I noticed once fell from my lap. They made my wife an improvised cocktail based on her tastes. Duck confit was out of this world. Sad we are leaving town today. Cheers, Cafe Frank!
Thomas B — Google review
We have been here on several occasions and I feel confident in writing a review. The fusion of French and Italian cuisine is fantastic! First of all: this is the best duck I’ve ever had - period. I have had it in Paris, at other restaurants in places like NYC/ Chicago/ Atlanta, and at home - nothing even comes close. I would come here just for the duck confit. My partner has had the halibut and the pork and highly recommends both. But among other things, the atmosphere and the service are wonderful. Dillon is always welcoming and has recommendations for a variety of tastes. I have a food allergy and they are more than accommodating (call ahead if you have an allergy and they will be transparent about their food processes and what they can do for you). The most recent visit he knew what drink I like and with a specific customization - and asked if that was what I wanted as we sat down. He also remembered I have a food allergy and had already notified the kitchen when our reservation was on their evening list. The bartender for each time was very friendly and suggested things we might like. You’ll never be rushed and you’ll have a fantastic meal in a great environment. We have made a reservation for the next month every time we are about to leave - and we have been thrilled every time! Plan to spend a while enjoying the food and drinks - it’s worth the investment of both time and money! Entrees will be about $30-$40/ person; drinks are $10-$15 each; appetizers and desserts are about $15-$20 (and shareable). (If you get a cocktail AND a drink with the meal AND a dessert with another beverage, expect just over $100/ person plus tip; if you get water and just an entree, you’ll be looking at under $50/ person including tip.)

Mockingbird is a charming restaurant with beautiful art and architecture. The staff is attentive and accommodating, especially when it comes to handling allergies in large groups. The food is described as comforting yet elevated, with highlights such as crispy fried green tomatoes with delicious pimento cheese and delectable biscuits. Guests have enjoyed dishes like juicy pork tenderloin, sweet potato gratin, and braised cabbage. The menu offers an updated take on southern comfort food with a refined twist.
Mockingbird is just so incredibly consistent in their execution of affordable but amazing dining. The owner is very personable and regularly comes out to greet guests. However, I'm leaving the review as a result of dining for the restaurant's New Year's Eve four course meal. For the price and experience, I'm not sure I've ever had anything better! As close to perfection as a dining experience can get and I'm very pleased this spot is so close by as I will continue my regular visits.

Very cool spot in terms of rustic decor and atmosphere, but the food was not as epic as our experiences elsewhere this visit, but still a good experience overall. FRIED GREEN TOMATO (whipped pimento cheese, baby arugula, sweet onion jam, balsamic redux, basil oil) - with all the flavors in one bite, it's fairly tasty but the fried tomato itself is nothing too remarkable. Would have been helped with more pimento cheese. OPEN FACED CRAWFISH PO' BOY (grilled garlic baguette, classic remoulade, baby arugula) - was surprisingly dry and mostly crisp than craw but still decent with some extra remoulade. CRISPY BRUSSELS SPROUTS (honey-chipotle vinaigrette) - solid brussels sprouts, a bit more on the sweet side but very enjoyable. SOUTHERN SHRIMP AND GRITS (NOLA style BBQ shrimp & andouille sausage in a dark roux served over Wade’s Mill cheddar grits) - not the best shrimp and grits I've had but fairly good. The shrimp in particular were perfectly grilled and seasoned, but the sausage was unremarkable and the roux itself lacked heft and flavor. Grits themselves were fine as grits go. CAJUN SPICED VEGAN MEATBALLS (caramelized onion gravy, wild rice pilaf, sautéed green beans) - as far as vegan meatballs go, my wife and niece said they were good. My one cocktail Across the Pacific felt imbalanced, a bit too sweet. I make this exact cocktail at home so I may be a bit partial to my drier variation though. But didn't finish their version. CHOCOLATE-BOURBON PECAN PIE (vanilla bean whipped cream, caramel sauce) - the absolute highlight of the meal for all us. The best pecan pie I've ever had. Service was good overall, staff is friendly and polite. Love the decor, just like a giant house that's got a cozy interior split into two large dining rooms and then a massive outdoor patio.

This place could get a 5 if the food came out faster and the service was more attentive. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the appetizers were very good. I’d pass on the biscuits next time as they weren’t anything special.

What a gem this place is! My husband and I had such a lovely evening here, and our server Tonya R. was so sweet and made the best suggestions. The salmon, pot roast, and pork belly appetizer was all delicious. Mockingbird is a new favorite for sure ♥️
Rachael H — Google review
Had a girls dinner with a friend and the experience was wonderful start to finish! Our waitress was magnificent and topped only by the quality of food. We opted to get a bunch of shareables rather than a main and feel we made the right choice because their list of appetizers is tasty. The pork belly and the crispy brussel sprouts would be CANT miss items for me that I would go back to this restaurant specifically for. The biscuit basket was also amazing. Banana pudding was not my favorite in the world but obviously homemade. Smoked wings we a nice protein addition. Really in summary I was very impressed and will be back again.

Friendly service, beautiful setting, amazing gluten free options! We had a great meal. I would just warn other guests to arrive extra early to find parking. We paid $18 to park within walking distance for 1.5 hrs. If we'd gotten there earlier, we could have probably driven around longer to find a more affordable spot.
Paisley H — Google review
Absolutely loved the decor of the restaurant. Service was impeccable, attentive and friendly. Portion sizes were huge. The food was good and each entree wowed us in certain aspects. The pot roast was topped with blue cheese crumbles and the pork chop had a delicious peach compote accompanied with collards with ham hocks. The banana pudding was to-die-for and was topped with pieces of crunchy dried banana pieces and had lots of vanilla wafers. A return visit would be great to try other dishes.

We went to Mockingbird for their Wednesday Date Night which I hope they continue doing because it's such a good deal and makes Wednesdays a special treat your self night. Our food was so delicious for our first time there. We got the baked feta, which was a little too sweet for a starter but I still liked it. We got the fried pork chop and the grilled bison hanger steak. The portions were plentiful and the steak was perfectly cooked medium rare. The garlic mashed potatoes were the best I've ever had. Dessert was a bourbon chocolate pecan pie which I thought was a little too sweet but the whipped cream helped out. I'd love to try their baked mac and cheese and shrimp and grits next time!

Distillery
Food & Drink
Vitae Spirits Distillery, located in Charlottesville, Virginia, is a family-owned craft distillery that prides itself on producing small batch spirits with a strong emphasis on quality and artisanal values. The distillery is committed to innovation and creating unique flavors while also aiming to establish their products as future classics. They prioritize authenticity and transparency, encouraging customers to visit behind the scenes to understand their integral role in the distillery's mission.
We had a fantastic evening with Vitae Spirits owner, Ian Glomski. He is SUCH a nice guy, not to mention brilliant and interesting! Ian gave us a short primer on distilling then taught us a Mixology 101 class that was a blast. The Vitae Spirits rums and gins were all delicious. Perhaps the favorite was the Pain Suppression (like a Pain Killer TM); absolutely delicious! We then each had a turn behind the bar making a kind of drink in 3 different ways (super dry, middle, very sweet). It was fascinating to see how the balance of the drink and the quality of the spirit impacted the drinks. The distillery and store are clean and classy; what a great place to hangout with friends and learn a new skill. THANK YOU, IAN! We'll be back soon. Cheers!

Despite their seemingly active website, they are no longer a distillery. On location is completely empty but upon calling the phone number, the message says they are on Main Street and lists their business hours. We arrived to find it is now a sushi place and still has the same owners who have apparently rebranded but haven't changed any info? Extremely frustrating as we drove over an hour to get there.
Barbara E — Google review
This place specializes in distilling rum and they do it extremely well. Hopefully the owner will read this and correct me but I believe they even have 3 different types of gin based on a rum distillate. This is a small Distillery with all of their products being very well done and could be considered a sipping type Rum that really doesn't need a mixer. I really liked the maple barrel aged rum and I purchased bottles of the Anisette, Orange and Maple Cream liquors,

Amazing Charlottesville distillery of great Gin & Rum!! I thought I didn't even like Gin until we stopped into Vitae and on a whim!! The owners and staff are very knowledgeable about their field and we learned a lot about their business and other interesting topics while enjoying some tastings/libations. Definitely put this place on your map to visit. Cozy and clean interior with a cool comfortable vibe. Thanks Ian, TJ and the Vitae crew for an awesome experience. We will continue to visit and forward business your way :)

May 22 was our first visit to this craft distillery and it did not disappoint! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff that spent time explaining the spirits. Creative, unique, AND beautiful cocktails! All in an enjoyable atmosphere. Excited to return again soon!
Jessica S — Google review
Fantastic, creative cocktails using in-house distilled spirits perfect for a quick 1-2 cocktails before dinner. Cocktails and “Poptails” (popsicle versions of their delicious cocktails) are also sold to-go (in addition to indoor seating). Unfortunately due to COVID-19 precautions, Vitae is serving their tastings out of plastic cups. For cocktails, we highly recommend the (1) Pain Suppressor, (2) Cheer You Up, and (3) By The Fire.

Re: Learn Craft Distillery experience Totally awesome! Ian is both incredibly knowledgeable and easy to talk to. We knew very little about the distilling process going into this, let alone the history or science behind craft spirits. We both found the brief lecture at the beginning fascinating and really enjoyed the step-by-step tour of Vitae Spirits Distillery. The tastings were delicious :) 10/10 would highly recommend!
Alexandra M — Google review
What a gem of a distillery, not only in Charlottesville, but in Virginia! The spirits are absolutely delicious and certainly unique. I'm usually not a huge gin fan, but absolutely loved this one! TJ and Ian were awesome and did a fantastic job providing us with an excellent experience. We told friends about it; they went the next day and also had a spectacular experience. Can't wait to go back next time we're in Cville!

Luce is a great Italian restaurant in the heart of downtown. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is romantic. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and they make sure that you have a great time during your visit.
We learned of this place from some online guides and decided to give it a try. We had two different pastas: the pistou and the fettucini. Both were fantastic. The portions are generous and certainly filling. Everything tasted extremely fresh (because it is) as they are cooked and made when ordered! Side note: I asked about the pesto ingredients as often pesto is made with cashews which I am allergic to. The gentleman who took our order kindly informed us that there are neither cashews or pine nuts in their pesto! Our pastas were neatly packaged in a brown paper bag with napkins and forks, and brought out to us in a very timely manner! We are excited to go back and try more of their pastas and give their pizzas a go.

Definitely a gem on Norfolk's restaurant row. Overall I thought our dining experience was great. Seated next to the open kitchen I was able to watch the chef work in harmony with his staff. This is something I really appreciated. For appetizers we started with the Bruschetta and Toasted Bread caprese salad. Overall good dishes our only complaint would be the tomatoes on the Bruschetta were a little seedy and out of season using a small tomato like the salad would be suggested. Also both would have been fantastic with a balsamic glaze drizzle. Our main dishes were the Fish 🐠 of the day which was a halibut with a chutney sauce. My wife thought the chutney was a little over bearing for the dish but that was her personal opinion. My dish was a pasta dish with a Spinach pasta, fish, which was the halibut with a tomato and arugula salad. Personally I thought my fish was a bit overcooked and salty and I thought it had too many tomatoes in the dish. Overall I thought all meals were plated beautifully! Service was fantastic, atmosphere was simple but very pleasing. We will definitely be back again to try some of their other homemade pasta dishes. Highly recommend if you are looking for a nice intimate italian restaurant. Reservations highly suggested!

Take out only. Soooo gooooood!! I ordered as a walk up at the window and assumed I’d be waiting 10 min minimum, but….theze noodles guys….Fresh noodles only take a few minutes to boil, so thrown in a pan with some sauce and the pasta is ready in about 5 min! Got the bolo (bolognese) and cheesecake of the moment (almond this time). Both were fabulous, I am very impressed and hope to get to eat there again!
Anna L — Google review
Look for the yellow door and you’ve made it to the walk-up counter of Luce. On my last visit, they were painfully busy and behind, but - the pasta was fantastic as always. Don’t sleep on the salads. Desserts are ok.

The pizza was so good. I was literally thinking about this pizza two days later. I wish I lived closer so I could stop by every day! The staff was very nice!

Pasta was very good for being a takeout spot. I’m a sucker for some good homemade pasta! I would just warn you that it’s the kind of place that may close early sometimes. Definitely the smallest restaurant/hole in the wall I’ve ever experienced. Kinda cool concept though. Took me a few trips there to be able to catch them when they were open. I was not successful in being able to complete order online and they have no phone number. Otherwise it’s great food for the price and friendly service. Don’t skip their cheesecake. It’s really good too with a thick crust.

This place is magical! We got the Cacio e Pepe pasta and Margherita Pizza. 4 stars because I think the food was a little too rich for me- could use a little less butter and salt. The crust of the pizza was perfect and the pasta was al dente. Yum yum!

First time trying the place out. Got a pizza and some pasta and the flavors were amazing, but the pasta and pizza were not exactly hot and the pizza was a little messy and floppy. Could have just been a one off, will have to try again.

The Nook is a long-standing eatery located in downtown Charlottesville, offering both indoor and outdoor seating options. Known for its all-day diner classics and American comfort food, this bustling spot has been a favorite among locals for over three generations. The menu is filled with familiar breakfast dishes and other American favorites, served with a smile by the friendly staff. Whether you're craving pancakes for the kids or a hearty breakfast for yourself, The Nook provides a casual dining experience at reasonable prices.
I had the Kimchi burger and I hope they make that a permanent addition to the menu! The kimchi had just right amount of spice, the bacon was perfect in flavor and texture! The cheddar cheese was also very flavorful! The sauce was also very delicious! The fries were also very good. I am excited to return to pick up our daughter or drop her back off to school so I can get another burger!

Great spot for a meal & to visit. They serve all day breakfast choices- friends enjoyed veggie omelet with potatoes, onions & peppers… while the other had the classic with fresh blueberries added on top of pancakes. I enjoyed a special - fish tacos with mango salsa- delicious! Generous portions & nice staff.

Came here with my wife for lunch and sat outside in the patio area. I got the meatloaf sandwich and it was solid, I wouldn’t say it was mindblowing but it was good. My wife got the chorizo breakfast bowl and it was massive and she was happy with it. There was also a random man playing the saxophone outside not connected to the restaurant that was kind of nice. The inside area also looked cool though we did not eat there.

••FULL MENU AVAILABLE ALL DAY•• Extensive menu of food options that are inclusive of dietary restrictions. I appreciate the rainbow flag at the bar as well as the "ANYBODY" sign on the bathroom door. The place might benefit from having a changing table in the bathroom (maybe to the left of the paper towels) because currently there is no fold-down table option for changing diapers. Pricing is a tad bit high if you are hoping for a more affordable place to go, but the portions are decent and the experience of going downtown and having a more relaxed morning--especially if you get the luxury of eating outside, make it worth the money. Check the back of the menu for kids menu and weekly specials!

I recently dined at The Nook, located in the historic downtown mall of Charlottesville, and it was a delightful experience. The outdoor seating area was clean and inviting, with a thoughtful water bowl for dogs, making it a perfect spot for pet owners. The standout dish was the Berries & Cream Stuffed French Toast—classic artisan bread filled with sweet mascarpone cream cheese and macerated strawberries, all topped with a blueberry-strawberry medley. It was, without a doubt, the best French toast I’ve ever had: perfectly cooked and deliciously sweet. The service was exceptional, with our waitress being incredibly friendly and attentive. If you’re looking for a charming brunch spot with fantastic food and a welcoming atmosphere, The Nook is a must-visit.

Have been here before and had a great breakfast. Today however the food was bad. Pancakes didn't taste good, biscuits and gravy were disconnected in the flavors and very butter forward. The charizo bowl was lack luster too. Our waitress was super sweet and nice but the lady at the door who we asked for the check from didn't even apologize when we said the food wasn't good and to please have the check. Except for our waitress the staff looked beat down and not happy to be there. Kind of like the food lol. I hope they turn it around, this used to be pretty tasty for breakfast
Christopher S — Google review
We picked here without knowing much about it. There was a small wait to be seated. The food was excellent. The menu is fun. Not wild but different and the items that may seem simple are prepared excellently, making for an excellent experience. The space is beautiful. We thought the prices were reasonable. We absolutely look forward to eating here again.
Wesley O — Google review
Such a great spot for some classic (and not so classic) breakfast food. Who can say no to a breakfast burrito that also has tater tots in it?? It’s one of those spots that you want to save space for dessert based on the nice handwritten specials out front and home made pie. Do yourself a favor and come hungry!

Commonwealth Restaurant & Skybar is a chic dining destination located on the vibrant Downtown Mall, offering an unforgettable culinary experience. With its stunning rooftop patio, guests can enjoy breathtaking views while savoring a menu that highlights modern American cuisine infused with Latin influences and fresh local ingredients. Whether you're in the mood for brunch, dinner, or just some craft cocktails, this stylish venue has something for everyone.
Excellent live music, food, and a decent selection on tap. Enjoyed the rockfish, raw oysters, and calamari, though it's the first time I've ordered oysters somewhere that didn't note where they're from. We heard the Barefoot Bourbon Boys play with a rotation from other local bands, danced a bit, good crowd.

The entire staff was friendly and sociable and the food was delectable. The red wine salmon was a pleasant surprise, even though it was a smaller plate (yet still filling). I was especially glad that they could seamlessly accommodate a shellfish allergy (despite the menu having lots of seafood). The atmosphere was quiet and calm; it was not too cold inside unlike most restaurants. Even though it was a bit pricey, it definitely turned out to be the right choice.
Gav G — Google review
Food was great. Went for brunch with family. Service however was more than lacking. After being seated our waiter treated us as if we were making his life difficult (we ordered 4 meals 2 of which were the same with no changes requested). He neglected to tell us about specials and after serving the food never came back. He did however check in on everyone around us. It would have been nice to have a coffee or drink refill or basically any service. I would finish and this is more of how I was raised but I still do expect the women to be served first. Especially when a women and a man order the same meal it should just make sense to serve the women. Maybe I’m old fashioned and it is t a thing anymore. Anyway, again the food was great. If you can accept subpar service and treated like a pariah then I highly recommend.

I really expected this place to be awesome after walking by it for a couple years. The upper deck area looks like a lot of fun from the mall. And while it is a cool spot, the rest of my experience was not good. Our waitress was really having a rough night. Lost our order. Disappeared when we were trying to get our bill so that we could catch our movie. We had to ask another waiter to help us out. Food took a long time to come out. The chili burger is downright awful. The crab cake slides were just meh.

I visit the upstairs bar all the time. The music is always on point, the service to business volume ratio is excellent. The bartenders are always on hand with a good beer or cocktail recommendation. And the crowd is usually high energy without being rowdy. Yeah, I said rowdy, get off my lawn.
Randall B — Google review
We sat on the outdoor upper bar and the atmosphere was excellent with smooth jazz playing in the background and some good tasting cocktails. The only downside was the food left something to be desired. The grilled cheese was burnt and the salsa tasted like beans and not tomatoes. Our server also seemed disinterested in his job and uninterested in helping us. But definitely come for the ambiance and libations.
Andrew E — Google review
The service, atmosphere, and food here is amazing. My wife and I had never been to Commonwealth so we wanted to give it a shot. We're so glad we did. We both got the filet that was on the menu and it was out of this world. I appreciated that the waitress started out with asking if medium rare was OK. For me that is the perfect temperature to cook a steak, but often restaurants have a hard time hitting the mark. Not Commonwealth, it was cooked to perfection and the flavor was incredible. I would like to go back and try some other entree's, as I'm sure the quality will be there too. Thank you for an overall great experience.
Dave S — Google review
Skybar was awesome. Even though it was slightly chilly when we went, the heaters in the roof did a good job of keeping a comfortable temperature. The bartender was nice, and got our drinks quickly, though my friend's beer was very flat (he did give a $2 discount for that, which was nice). It's probably even nicer in the summer, though it was already crowded now, so it's likely packed from April onwards.

Loved this tucked away speak easy! The cocktails were fresh and made to order and so delicious. The vibe was just cool and fun with great music playlist and gorgeous chandelier and cute lights and quirky knick knacks around the room. Definitely recommend for a drink!

We stopped by for a cocktail after dinner. Enjoyed both cocktail off the menu and a bartenders choice! Lots of pride & creativity in the cocktails served and it was nice we could order off the menu for upstairs when we were hungry.

Hidden beneath Tavern & Grocery, Lost Saint is one of Charlottesville’s best-kept secrets. The speakeasy vibe is intimate and stylish — low lighting, vintage touches, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The cocktails are exceptional — creative, balanced, and beautifully presented. The bartenders are true professionals who can craft something unique based on your tastes. Service is always friendly and attentive without being pretentious. Lindsey and Connor were absolutely amazing! Whether you’re on a date or out with friends, this is the perfect spot for a top-tier drink and great conversation. Easily one of the best cocktail bars in town.

Is it too soon to say this is my spirit home? Probably but between the drinks and apps. This has been my favorite spot in Charlottesville. I got the Burn the Strega (get it, it’s amazing) and the Dirty old Man (?) both were the best and I kinda want to make them at home. And the bison tartare is to die for. Love love love.

The servers are awesome. The food is great. The bartenders were pretentious, rude to other staff and customers. Very uncomfortable sitting at the bar so we moved to a bar table away from them. Really wanted to love this place but bad ju ju from behind that bar. If you sit at the bar they just look right through you. Grab a table instead and order something to eat for a way better experience. Management needs to adress the bar issue... I get being stressed out and overwhelmed as a server or bartender... maybe servers could pour the wine or grab bottles to relieve some of the stress that is APPARENT in the service from the bar. Might give it another try, but won't be sitting at the bar. The servers were very warm and attentive. They get 5 stars.... such potential. Quite disappointed.
