Ito in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Ito, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Ito, on the Izu Peninsula, is known for its coastal hot-spring resorts, where you can enjoy traditional onsen baths with sea or mountain views. The area offers easy access to scenic spots like Jogasaki Coast, with dramatic cliffs and walking trails, and Mount Omuro, a grass-covered extinct volcano with a panoramic summit. In town, you’ll find nostalgic Showa-era streets, local seafood, and ryokan stays that showcase classic Japanese hospitality. It’s a relaxed base for exploring both the rugged coastline and the wider Izu Peninsula.
With favorites like Izu Kogen Stained Glass Museum, Mount Omuro Climbing Chairlifts, and Izukogen Beer Umaimondokoro, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Matoi Unagi and Banban Shokudo so you can get the best taste of Ito while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Roadside Station Ito Marinetown is a convenient stopover with a variety of amenities. It offers gas stations, restaurants, and hot spring facilities overlooking a marina. Visitors can enjoy free outdoor foot onsens and tasty restaurant food at budget-friendly prices. The area also features a boat harbor, ample parking, and various shops offering seafood, sweets, and souvenirs. Additionally, there are entertainment options such as jugglers and underwater ferry rides with undersea windows.
A great place to stop by when you are in or near Ito in Izu peninsula. The place has a variety of restaurants, food shops, boat harbor and huge & free parking. Good to enjoy with family & friends. Very nice & beautiful structure with a mesmerizing line of palm trees on both sides.
TAHIR C — Google review
Ito Marine town is much smaller than expected. Nice stopover for lunch, local desserts, souvenirs or relax at the marine promenade. Very affordable Japanese lunch on 2F of Seaside Spa Marina Tenbo Restaurant with quiet, calming views.
Soo K — Google review
Good food service and a spacious onsen with multiple baths of differing temperatures, a sauna and a mineral bath. Combined with a reasonable price, I really don't have any complaints about this place. Everything is booked through digital ticketing machines that don't have an English language option. For the food it's not an issue since there are pictures, and for the bath there's usually somebody around to assist.
Michael ( — Google review
We just had a quick stop here on our way back with our tour. Wish we had more time, it's a beautiful place with great shops and snacks. Next time we will stay here longer.
Anton C — Google review
The overall experience is good but the waiting line, in summer, can improve.
Nekkeee — Google review
Plenty of sea food from fresh mix with special sauces, and dried sea food. Sweets, chips made from fish, seaweed base soup. You can easily spend your money's worth for some natural foods here. This place is accessible by car, bus, or JR train.
R. D — Google review
For a road station, it is pretty big and a plenty of parking lots. Great access from the main road. Nice view of the harbor. Photogenic spots and many souvenirs sold, public bathrooms just right by the parking lots.

Nice place but smaller than expected. Full of souvenir and food shops. Second floor your a deck to see the marine and some restaurants. Parking lot is huge and free.

Beaches
Itō Orange Beach is a serene coastal stretch located just a short 3-minute walk from Itō Station. During the summer, it offers an array of activities such as jet-skiing and sunbathing, attracting both thrill-seekers and locals seeking relaxation. As the crowds disperse in the off-peak seasons, the beach becomes a tranquil retreat with open sands for contemplative walks.
Nice and quiet place. Good to enjoy with kids with cheaper paid parking space.
Kolukuluri R — Google review
Orange Beach was a terrific sandy beach ⛱ I live the palm trees. 🌴🌴There weren't many people when I visited in early April even though it was a hot sunshiny🌞 day. Easy access from the Ito train station 🚉
Wendy T — Google review
Just before the beginning of the official summer season (mid July to End of August) there are no amenities, but there are also no crowds. The sand is almost black but very soft, almost like sands in Hawaii. Not gravely at all. The water is crystal clear as well and no waves as it is enclosed in a bay. It is also quite warm and not cold. Only 4 stars as you can find pieces of glass periodically that have not worn down and small pieces of pottery with sharp edges in the sand. Maybe with the clean up before the summer season this is taken care of. Also a McDonalds nearby (10 min walk in the direction of marine town) if that is of interest to you
Tony H — Google review
Ito Orange Beach is the best beach we visited in Izu! At high tide it is deep enough to dive under the water, but it’s very calm thanks to the breakwater. The sand is soft and black, though if your feet are sensitive to small pebbles you may want to bring water shoes. If you want to see fish, I recommend coming in the morning and at high tide if possible. I met many kinds of colourful and curious fish near the breakwater, including a small school of cute squid! I did not see any jellyfish. There are free showers that are well-designed, all functioning as a full shower or as a footwash, and draining sand through a grate onto the beach below. There are toilets and trash cans as well. There are restaurants on the beach with seating, though you can also buy food at the nearby Food Shop Aoki. For a fee, you can rent floaties, access the floating slides, or try a banana boat. There is not much shade, however.
Sarah H — Google review
Quiet beach. Even though it is nice, it was too lonely. There is no shade so umbrellas are a must. There are bathrooms and faucet to remove the sand.
Gloria ( — Google review
September the 2nd and all when away already, summer is way longer In japan. All the beach stands should stay for longer…. Anyway I got a great and quiet day in this beach. Not much to do than relax

Loads of rubbish (trash)! We visited in early October. I would not recommend visiting outside of the swimming season. Even the nearby river is polluted. It felt sad to visit.

Ito Explorer is doing very good job. They are volunteer group and keep the beach clean. They also planted flowers (Hibiscus) at the beach entrance! just WoW! Foreigners and Japanese can join the activities too, follow @ito_explorer on Instagram to know upcoming activities!

Local history museum
Tokaikan, originally a three-storey wooden hot spring ryokan built in 1928, now stands as a historical museum showcasing the traditional architecture of the early Showa period. The building was repurposed into a sightseeing and cultural establishment in 2001 after its closure in 1997. Visitors can admire the fine craftsmanship evident in the corridors, stairs, guest room entrances, and decorative windows.
Old building filled with history and interesting architecture. You can visit inside and it was like a maze! View from each room was beautiful. Very inexpensive admission. Had great time!
Tae S — Google review
Interesting museum! Lots of information about the building, surrounding cities and historical events. Some rooms are a bit repetitive, but overall very nice to walk through.
F. F — Google review
A rich cultural experience tour for only 200 yen. Need a bit of walk from Ito station but surrounding is serene and pleasant. It has several level and a huge area to explore and discover true Japanese heritage.
YL — Google review
Tokaikan is one of those rare places where time genuinely feels like it stopped around 1938. This gorgeous wooden ryokan-turned-museum in downtown Ito was once a high-class inn frequented by Japan’s literary elite (most famously Nobel laureate Yasunari Kawabata 川端康成), and today it’s open to the public for the ridiculously modest entry fee of just 300 yen. As soon as you slip off your shoes and step onto the polished corridors, the magic begins. Every footstep sings — that unmistakable, melodic creak of century-old wood underfoot. The air smells faintly of aged hinoki cypress and tatami, the kind of nostalgic scent you can’t fake. Sunlight filters through the original shoji screens and colored glass windows, bathing the rooms in soft amber light. The furniture, bathtubs, staircases, even the old rotary phones — everything is exactly as the guests left it decades ago. The absolute highlight for me was standing in front of Kawabata’s actual handwritten manuscripts displayed on the second floor. The delicate brush strokes, the casual notes in the margins… even if you can’t read a word of Japanese (like me), the sheer historical weight hits you. There’s also a beautifully preserved large communal bath with stained-glass windows and retro tiles, plus a small garden out back that feels like a scene straight out of a Studio Ghibli film. For less than the price of a coffee, you get to time-travel to the elegant, slightly melancholic world of early 20th-century Japan. If you’re anywhere near the Izu Peninsula, do not miss Tokaikan — it’s easily one of the most atmospheric and underrated cultural spots in the whole country. I could have stayed for hours listening to the building breathe. Highly, highly recommended!
Dennis ? — Google review
It's a beautiful place to go visit and see, but isn't a 'top of the list' location to visit. If you have other things to do, do them first. The history and building is beautiful, but if you're an English speaker, note there is nothing in English and it's a purely visual tour that will take you about 30 minutes to do. The display rooms get repetitive pretty quickly. There are 4 floors to navigate of steep stairs in slippers as a warning for those who may be unfit or not like heights. My advice would to just go at night time from the opposite side of the river and look at it from there. If you've ever been to a Ryokan before, this looks the same on the inside.
Maria B — Google review
A wonderful must see old ryokan museum. Such a treasure and something you can’t usually experience. The various rooms were so interesting to see and in a beautiful location by the river.
Eat L — Google review
The Tokaikan is a well-preserved former ryokan founded in the early Showa era. Famous master carpenters were commissioned to design each floor, their skills are visible in every single corner of the building—from the wooden crane carving at the entrance to the unique decorations in the guest rooms. The entrance fee is only 200 yen, and for a little extra you can access the onsen baths (on weekends and holidays only). Don't forget to reach the top floor to admire the panoramic view. In addition, there is an exhibition hall displaying the artwork of Kenji Shigeoka, whose sculptures can also be admired throughout the city. Fun fact: The Tokaikan is the set of the fourth volume of Thermae Romae. If you are a fan of the manga/anime, you should definitely visit it!
Maria — Google review
It's a quite iconic and historically meaningful ryokan indeed and for a mere 200yen admission I would solidly recommend it. You can imagine at the attic and in the guest room, how back when there were no apartment buildings around, this ryokan must be top of the line and very high-end. (careful in winter, cold feet get hurt easily if you trip on just about anywhere here)

Nature & Parks
Komuroyama Park is a nature park located on a 321m-high mountain, offering stunning views of both the mountains and the sea. The park is famous for its seasonal flowers, including 100,000 azaleas in spring, as well as hydrangeas, camellias, and cherry blossoms throughout the year. Visitors can access a lookout point either by lift or on foot to enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
Spent an hour here. Decided to walk up the volcano instead of taking the chairlift. Well worth it since the walk carried me into a dark cool forest out of the sun. Azaleas were finished but the hydrangeas were looking vivid. Clean bathrooms with an outdoor urinal feature for the guys - like pissing outdoors but without being a complete savage.

It's not bad. It's not big but it is worthy to spend some time. Enjoy the lookout and scenery.

A nice spot to visit in Ito area. There is a cable car to get at the top of a hill with a great view and fancy coffee shop, and few gentle hiking trails with flower gardens. Good for a romantic date or a quiet day with kids.
Yoshi M — Google review
The main attraction of this park is the lift to the top of the hill which costs only 800 yen round trip. The view from the hill is indeed amazing. There’s a cafe at the top which serves popular yoghurt frape. If the weather allows, you might see the Fuji-san. You can reach the park by bus departing from the Ito train station which costs 480 yen one way.

Specialty Museums
Maboroshi Hakurankai is an open-air museum that offers a quirky and eclectic experience, showcasing exhibits that delve into Japan's history and subcultures. Visitors may encounter the director, Sara-chan, who warmly welcomes guests of all ages. The museum features outlandishly kitschy displays and a mix of weird, crazy, grotesque, historical, and esoteric elements. While some areas may feel creepy, others exude an oddly calm atmosphere.
This was the weirdest attraction I've ever visited with my wife. We spent over an hour and a half there and only saw two other groups. Some areas were creepy, while others felt oddly calm. At the end, there’s a section for a devil ritual, a secret room linked to a local strip club, and some history about communism in China and Japan. Parking is free, and it's easy to access by car, though there’s no shelter, so bring an umbrella! Tickets can be bought directly at the counter. Most of the museum, zoo, and shrine attractions close at 4 PM.
Alvin T — Google review
In Izu, I found a pair of very strange Museums. This was the second in a day trip and it lives up to expectations. The Museum is large and full of all manner of strange and uncanny exhibits. Mannequin mutilation, haunted exhibits, strange innuendo. Every stop left me perplexed and curious of what the next horror-esque exhibit will entail. As this is considered an open air exhibit, there was a lot of walking outside between the exhibits, with overgrown encroaching on each turn, adding more to the uncanny environment. Lots of fun!
Stash P — Google review
The greatest attraction I've ever been to. I spent over an hour here and didn't see anybody else. Some areas are explicit and scary, but the relaxed areas also create a sense of dread. Everything is uncanny, it's like visiting the house of a crazy person with too much money who only wants a bigger collection. There is meticulous sorting to the chaos. In one room, a shelf will contain 200 model airplanes, next to a row of furbys, next to a room full of babies. There's a section at the end with a ritual to the devil, and a secret stripper room in collaboration with a local strip club. Thank you so much.
JosephJ — Google review
Extremely mouldy, dank and rundown. I was really looking forward to the visit as it has been recommended on a local guide. The whole place just stunk of black mould I just wanted to get out of there instantly. May have been better back in the day when it was taken care of but they must have really let it go. It’s a shame because there are things that I would have liked to stop and look at, albeit quite creepy. Recommend bringing a mask.
Fiona F — Google review
This place is probably the most unique place I have ever been. So much weird stuff in here. But I feel like its an important place. They have a lot of things and the way they put it together is interesting. If your in the neighborhood you should make the stop.

Unagi restaurant
Matoi is a popular unagi restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. It can be challenging to secure a table without a reservation due to its popularity. The menu includes the delicious two pieces Kabayaki set, which comes with complimentary rice refills. Visitors have praised the taste of the dishes and highlighted the attentive owners and pleasant dining environment. Overall, Matoi is highly recommended for those looking to savor top-notch unagi dishes in a delightful setting.
Very nice staffs, the old man can speak a bit of English and tried to give us some introductions when he served the food, which was very nice. The food was appropriately portioned. The eel wasn't too sweet or too salty, so you can clearly taste the eel. It's either cash or Alipay here. We went on a weekday lunch so there was no queue and got a comfortable table. There are like a few parking spots next to the restaurant, like 3 spots maybe. I'm not sure if it belonged to the restaurant? But we parked there and quickly left in like 20 minutes.

All the staff are very friendly though we don’t speak Japanese. There’s an English menu. Hearing how some without reservation were turned away, we made a reservation via our hotel concierge since we can’t speak Japanese. Is a very small restaurant with less than 8 tables The eel tastes really tender and fresh. Very unlike the one we eat in Singapore.

(Translated by Google) Banban Shokudo is located at the back of the second floor of the Ocean Bazaar building at Ito Marine Town Roadside Station. Run by a local dried fish dealer, it is a famous Ito restaurant for its fish. There are 82 seats, including tatami and table seating. I recommend a window seat with a view of the sea. The turnover is fast, and there is also a store inside Lasca at Atami Station. My favorite is Banbanzen (dried horse mackerel and simmered golden-eyed snapper), but this time I ordered the Makanai Donburi. It is a very luxurious meal; start with about half of the sashimi, then stir in a raw egg, and finally add soy sauce, which gradually becomes more delicious, allowing you to enjoy a variety of flavors. You can also eat it on the terrace as a takeaway. I remembered Marine Town! ! ! ! Moreover, there are many restaurants, so I think I can go here for a while. This time I was wandering around trying to decide where to go and went to "Banban Shokudo"♪ The restaurant's recommendation is the ``Makanai-don,'' which is filled with seafood, the ``Banban Zen,'' which is a value-packed meal that includes sashimi, simmered red sea bream, and dried fish, and the ``Himono Set Meal,'' which is sure to be delicious because it's run by a dried fish store. But for some reason, on this day, I was in the mood for meat...I ate the ``Karaage Set Meal.'' You can change the miso soup to aosa miso soup for an extra 120 yen. I changed it because I love Aosa! Ramen restaurant
Fukufukutei is a no-frills ramen spot with a focus on delicious, affordable noodles. While the decor may not be remarkable, the friendly staff and delectable menu more than make up for it. The Japanese-only menu might pose a challenge for non-Japanese speakers, but patrons can rely on posted images to guide their orders. Despite the language barrier, visitors have found that simple English words like "pork" suffice when communicating with the staff.
My partner and I ordered a Shio and Shoyu ramen and neither of us had any complaints. Portions were generous, broth was flavourful, and we thought it was unique to have wontons served with our ramen. Bring cash!
Oscar L — Google review
I wish I didn’t skip breakfast, as we spend over an hour in line waiting to get in for a bowl of ramen. While the chef takes pride in how he delivers the food, he just takes so long. Taste was good, I wouldn’t say it was great, just good. I’m glad I tried this soba but the long wait doesn’t match the taste.

Really delicious and cheap. They don't speak English, but understand a few words (like pork) and that's how I ordered.
Amin J — Google review
The shio ramen is ok, nothing special. Excellent char-siu and pork belly. My egg was over-cooked. Too expensive at 1,250 yen (1,150 plus 100 for an egg) and the chef is rude - I was told off for looking at my phone, which is none of his business.

Bright, traditional venue with counter seating, serving sushi & sashimi set meals plus sake & beer.

Spent about $60 cad as dinner for two, although we didn't order drinks. The atmosphere was great, and although neither of us spoke Japanese it was fun listening to the store owner tell stories about his life. The food was very fresh, I especially loved the sea urchin, fatty tuna and swordfish.
K.Q. C — Google review
Amazing. Wanted to spoil ourselves and the quality and amount compared to what you would get in Tokyo is amazing. Just over $100 cad for two meals, three large beers, bottle of their in house sake, and multiple additional orders. English is not their strong house but service and taste is. I now have a place I want to revisit everytime i come to Japan. You can go cheaper but this is a traditional sushi bar where you order a set meal and can pick more after. Look for the octopus outside. I fixed the google maps as it's on the "main" road and not the smaller alley. The uni/urchin and fatty tuna was amazing.

Day 2

North side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the north side side of town. Start the day off with Izu Shaboten Zoo, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to The Cat Museum. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Park
Izu Shaboten Zoo is a unique combination of botanical garden and zoo, featuring 1,500 different types of cactus and succulent plants from around the world. Visitors can learn about cactus cultivation and even take part in a cactus caring course. The zoo area is home to approximately 140 species of animals, including spider monkeys, parrots, and capybaras that roam freely and can be fed and petted by visitors.
Great zoo size that we covered in about 4 hours with a 4 and 6 year old. Nice cactus greenhouses with an impressive collection of 100+ year old specimens. Animal enclosures didn't many intrusive barriers which allowed us to get nice and close. There were plenty of food stations to buy feed for practically all the animals too. This type of experience would be really expensive back in Australia. General admission was also reasonable too. Definitely recommended for a family outing if you're in the area 👌
Simon B — Google review
Mixed feelings. Let the bigger animals have a bigger home‼️The park itself was better than expected, whole park took 2-3 hours. The staff was friendly & the small animals look reasonably well kept. I would give it 5 stars for the smaller animals but for the larger animals it was depressing!!There was a bear/cat animal that was in one of the indoors enclosure and it was 5 steps for the entire home. Totally messed up. Some of the apes looked depressed. It rained but they provided umbrellas at the entrance & it was totally fine in the rain. I hope more people can speak out about the small enclosures.

I visited Izu Shaboten Zoo by bike on Friday, and it was lively with many tourists and local schoolchildren. In the nocturnal animals’ area, I saw bats for the first time in my life, which was a memorable experience. The zoo has a spacious layout where animals move around freely, and of course the capybaras were a highlight. The best part was the cactus-picking activity, where you choose your own cactus and pot to create a unique arrangement to take home. Although the entrance fee felt a bit high, the experience and atmosphere made it worth it.

If you’ve just ridden the Mt. Omuro cable car (the tram that takes you to the top of the grassy volcano), turn around and walk literally across the road — that’s where you’ll find Izu Shaboten Zoo. It’s the perfect laid-back half-day activity after the view from the summit. This isn’t one of those massive, exhausting zoos. It’s compact, shady, and genuinely cozy. On the weekday I visited, it felt almost private — hardly any crowds, just the sound of gravel underfoot and the occasional peacock screech. Of course, the undisputed stars are the capybaras. They have a huge outdoor area with a hot-spring bath (yes, the capybaras actually soak in an onsen in winter — adorable doesn’t even begin to cover it). Even in summer they’re ridiculously chill, lounging in the water or munching grass while visitors watch in quiet awe. Other highlights: • Free-roaming peacocks that follow you around like they own the place (one decided to walk with me for a solid ten minutes — best escort ever). • A fantastic walk-through bird zone where flamingos, sacred ibis, ducks, geese, and spoonbills wander right past your feet. No cages, just a big netted area — you really feel like you’ve stepped into their world. • Classic zoo lineup done well: cheeky otters, wallabies, antelopes, donkeys, turkeys, parrots, even a few lazy sloths hanging in the greenhouse section. My only tiny disappointment was that the shoebill wasn’t on display the day I went (apparently he sometimes takes “days off” inside). Next time! Everything feels lovingly maintained, the paths are easy, there are plenty of benches in the shade, and the whole vibe is relaxed and happy. Combine it with the cable car and the cactus greenhouse (the “shaboten” part of the name) next door, and you’ve got yourself a perfect easygoing afternoon on the Izu Plateau.
Dennis ? — Google review
Mixed feelings about this zoo. Coming from Canada where most Zoo's have way more space than this, some of the enclosures felt pretty sad. We were originally going to go to the top of Mount Omoro but it was closed due to weather so we went to the zoo instead. Half of the zoo enclosures were absolutely tiny, and others were fairly large. For example the one with the penguins looked very small and dirty, and same with most of the indoor ones. The gorilla exhibit was also very sad and small. You could see some of the animals pacing around very fast in the small enclosures which is a sign of stress. The owls were also chained to the ground which felt very sad to see, at first I thought they were statues. You could also feed most animals, sometimes through tubes and you could see the animals just essentially begging for the food, although they looked well fed for the most part. Some cleaning and larger enclosures would make this way nicer. However we did absolutely love the capybara parts and being able to feed them. They are so funny! The bird exhibit was also quite cool.
Mitchell A — Google review
Very special place, lots of animals to see. Cool interactive feeding opportunities. Capybara and Giraffe feeding was super cool. Be careful though Giraffe bit my hand - my mistake though haha
Shane M — Google review
Good experience there. We bought our tickets on klook before we go. They are famous because of the cactus and their capibara(u can take close up picture with them). Tried their cactus ice cream too. There's quite few of activities u can do too
Tien H — Google review
One of the best zoos! You can see the animals up close and it’s so rare to have the chance to feed so many animals. You can buy the food around the park that correspond to the different animals. The new giraffe enclosure is amazing, you can see the giraffes from their height! But the capybaras are always the highlight, no matter how many times we visit ! Try a capybara burger in the restaurant!

Nature & Parks
Mountains
Mt. Omuro, a 580-meter extinct volcano in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is known for its distinctive bowl-shaped silhouette and as a symbol of the city. The mountain hosts the traditional Yamayaki festival on the second Sunday of February to preserve its natural beauty and has become a popular springtime tradition attracting many tourists. Designated as a national natural monument, Mt.
It was beautiful even though we visited at the beginning of summer on a windy day. The chair lift costs 1,000 yen round trip, be sure to check the official website beforehand in case it’s not operating due to wind or other conditions. If you’re taking the bus, keep in mind that the last one doesn’t run late, so plan accordingly.
Ghifaroza — Google review
I came at 11 a.m. on August 15, 2025. I had to wait in line for about 1.5 hours for the chairlift, and it was incredibly hot with strong sun. Be sure to prepare for the long wait by bringing a hat, water, and a UV protection umbrella. Once you're up there, the weather is clear, and the mountain is beautiful. The walk around the mountains takes about 20 to 30 minutes
Ka C — Google review
This is a beautiful mountain(that is pretty small) where, on the top of the mountain, Mt.Fuji is clearly visible. There is a shooting range(bow and arrow) in the crater(with a lot of greenery) and a climbing chairlift from which you can reach the top of the mountain from the bottom. There is also an ice cream shop on the top of the mountain with a small seating area. I do not think it is possible to hike this mountain as it is very steep.

Today was mountain climbing day! And what better mountain to traverse than the mountain that was featured in the anime 'Your Name" Mount Omuro is a very large and fun Mountain filled with lots of great views and places to walk. A full 1 hour walk around and see as far as the sky will allow you. It was a very enjoyable hike which was started and capped with a fun ride on the Rope way. A very popular destination as when leaving, the line had tripled in size! I recommend going early just as the Mount opens to avoid the 1hr wait time some have observed before.

Mt. Omuro (大室山) is a spectacular, extinct volcano in Shizuoka with panoramic views, a crater you can walk around, and fun attractions like archery, gift shops, and tasty snacks. Chairlifts provide access to the summit—just check wind conditions before visiting! At only ¥1000 for the ride, this is one of the best-value scenic spots in Japan. (5/5) Full Review Mt. Omuro: A Volcanic Gem with Views, Value, and a Bit of Wildlife Drama Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) Few attractions strike the perfect balance between value, beauty, and unique experience quite like Mt. Omuro (大室山) in the Izu Peninsula. This extinct volcano, with its near-perfect symmetry and grass-covered slopes, isn’t just a geological wonder—it's a fully packaged experience, offering unbeatable vistas, delightful snacks, and a slice of adventure with just the right dash of whimsy. Let’s start with a practical note: weather matters. We had to visit twice—on our first attempt, strong winds meant the scenic chairlifts (gondola-style lifts) were grounded. Disappointing, sure, but entirely understandable given the exposed nature of the summit. So here’s my advice: check the wind forecast, and shoot for a clear-skied day to boost your chances of spotting the elusive Mount Fuji on the horizon. When we finally made it up on day two, the experience was well worth the wait. For only ¥1000 per person, the chairlift glides you gently to the top, revealing sweeping views of Ito City, the Pacific Ocean, and rolling hills in every direction. The crater itself is walkable—a 360-degree rim trail that's flat, easy, and endlessly photogenic. And inside the bowl-like crater? A surprising twist: an archery range. Yes, you can channel your inner samurai while literally standing in a volcano. At the base of Mt. Omuro, there’s even a zoo (Izu Shaboten Zoo) and additional attractions to round out your day trip. But the summit is where the real magic happens. I was pleasantly surprised by the gift shops and cafes, which didn’t fall into the usual overpriced tourist trap formula. In fact, Mt. Omuro was running a Yuru Camp collaboration while we were there—a brilliant marketing crossover that gets bonus points in my book. As for the food, it was shockingly good for a mountaintop rest stop. Highlights included: Hokkaido milk ice cream: ultra-creamy, with a beautifully crisp cone. Miso-dipped mochi dango: savory, warm, and satisfyingly chewy. Fluffy meat bun: solid comfort food. Yakisoba: a classic Japanese staple, well-executed. Churrito (mini churro): sweet, crunchy, and worth every yen—until a hawk tried to steal it. Yes, you read that right. A hawk or falcon, clearly a local of the area, launched a bold attempt to snatch my snack. I managed to defend my churrito (barely), but another guest nearby wasn’t as lucky. While the bird doesn’t seem to pose any direct threat to people, it’s laser-focused on open food. It's a minor inconvenience that honestly added a bit of National Geographic excitement to the day. Nature finds a way… to swipe your sweets. In conclusion, Mt. Omuro is a hidden treasure—a destination that blends nature, culture, and lighthearted fun into an affordable, worthwhile visit. Between the panoramic views, quirky attractions, and delicious eats, this is an experience I would happily recommend to tourists and locals alike. Just watch your snacks.

The view from the top is simply amazing. Went in February, still winter and it was absolutely freezing! But worth the views and the walk. You can see Mt Fuji from the top, but unfortunately she was hidden by thick clouds on the day that I went. The only way to get up there is by chair lift. There's a direct bus from Ito Station.

The Mount Omuro Climbing Chairlifts offer a scenic and convenient way to reach the 580-meter-high summit of an extinct volcano in just six minutes. Sakura no sato is a magnificent park situated at the base of Mt. Omuro, where numerous cherry trees bloom from September to May. This picturesque park offers an incredible sight with its stunning sakura trees against the backdrop of majestic Mt. Omuro. The park is well-known for its late-blooming cherry blossoms in April, which add to its charm and beauty.

The bad reviews are by people with no common sense and should honestly be ignored entirely. There was no bad smells, couldn't smell any cat urine stink at all. The cats were all very well taken care of, and they weren't drugged, they are merely cats who sleep 14 hours a day like all cats, except these ones have spent years getting used to people so they can ignore you better than most. The staff were kind and ever helped us call a cab when it was over. There was AC. It is exactly what it says on the tin and it's a 5 out of 5 if you know that. It's a history of big cats on the bottom floor told with taxidermy, including recreations of extinct ones. Top floor is a history of cats in media to as much as they could cover in their space, along with some real cats you can pet and relax with. There's no English writing on the exhibits so if you can't read Japanese half of the history will be lost on you. This is a place in Japan so that is not a negative. Most of all I had fun, but if you can't see yourself having fun with what I said above, then you won't. Simple as that.
Chris D — Google review
Nice visit for about an hour. Only takes cash for entrance fee. 1st floor focuses on cats around the world with many taxidermy animals, skeletons and fossils. Very interesting. 2nd floor displays cat themed toys from around the world. There are also about 20 cats to look at and some you could pet. My teenage daughter loved it and didn’t want to leave.

Do not ever support this place. They keep cats in cages for the entirety of their lives. How cruel is that??? Why would anyone want this? As a cat rescuer who fosters and volunteers with cats, these cats look miserable. This is absolutely barbaric. Teach your children kindness and do not come here.

Restaurant
Located in Izu Kogen, Miracolo is an Italian restaurant that prides itself on using locally sourced ingredients to create a delightful dining experience. The restaurant offers a charming patio seating area where guests can enjoy the breeze while indulging in a variety of dishes ranging from pasta and baguettes to seafood and homemade gelato. Visitors have praised the clean interior and commendable COVID-19 safety measures, as well as the warm welcome extended by the owner chef.
(Translated by Google) I used it with a friend this spring and really liked it, so this time I brought my husband, parents, and son. I ordered the Miracolo dinner recommended from the website. My husband and I are in our 50s, so we have enough. The appetizer plates are delicious and include a wide variety of colorful vegetables and carpaccio. The main dishes, both meat and fish, are really delicious. We also serve bread, desserts, and after-meal drinks. Isn't this price reasonable if it's a clean restaurant with a nice atmosphere and the owner/chef's courteous customer service? Since I built my second house in Izu Kogen 25 years ago, I had given up on opening a restaurant as Izu Kogen had become obsolete and there were fewer and fewer restaurants. I'm really happy to know about its existence. I wish I had known earlier that it was celebrating its 10th anniversary! Everyone who comes to Izu Kogen should definitely visit this shop! I was very disappointed that the owner of the store I used to go to was getting older and it seemed that it was becoming difficult to maintain hygiene inside the store. I hope that the clean atmosphere will continue in the future. The dishes seem to change depending on the season, so that's something to look forward to when you come to Izu Kogen. It was very delicious both last time and this time, and I will be visiting again.

We went on an unusual snowy night (!) in March. We made reservations and had a special dietary request and the chef called to check on things and make sure the meal was special. The food was great and the pesto alla Genovese was made with local turnip greens and turnips, cooked al dente and just lovely all around. I recommend reservations on weekend nights, the pork main, and the house red. All wonderful.

We went on a Saturday, and they only had a “set menu.” Not only was the food incredible, the husband and wife who ran the place were incredibly kind and accommodating. They created a unique off the menu set just for my girlfriend, who had dietary restrictions. Husband also spoke very good English, which was a surprise in such a small town! They also take credit card which was also very convenient! Great spot for a date night.

Even when we made reservations in advance via email, the response was very quick, and the chef himself came to greet us during the meal, which left a very good impression. The dishes themselves were all elaborately prepared and very delicious. In particular, the lamb main dish was perfect in terms of seasoning, doneness, and volume. (Translated by Google) We visited yesterday for our anniversary trip. 😌 We had the 4,950 yen course and drink! (Appetizer + Pasta + Main + Dessert course; some menu items cost extra). We had a 6:30 PM reservation, and there was only one other group there. 😌 In conclusion, we were very satisfied and would definitely return! 🫶🏻💖 First of all, the chef himself came to greet us, which I thought was very kind. ✨ The food was absolutely delicious. The peach-based non-alcoholic cocktail "Sakura NA" was absolutely delicious! The appetizer plate had about 10 different dishes! (All of them were delicious.) The most impressive dish was the chilled pumpkin soup, which was fluffy and melted in your mouth! It was a new discovery for me. 🎃 For pasta, I ordered "Carbonara"! It was penne-style instead of noodles! The bacon and sauce were a perfect match, and I regret not ordering double the portion. 😂 For the main course, I had "Chicken Thigh with Balsamic Sauce"! The meat was crispy and delicious, and the portion was generous, so I was very satisfied! ✨💞Salad and condiments were also served on the same plate! Since it was our anniversary trip, we had a plate of dessert. 😌 (We also had tea). The chef and his wife even applauded us in celebration, which made us very happy! ✨😊 The chef was so kind, asking us if we were traveling and wishing us a wonderful trip as we left. 🙌🏻✨ My boyfriend proposed to me on this trip, making it an especially memorable one. I'm so happy to have found such a heartwarming restaurant at such a special time. 🍽️💖 I'll definitely be back! 😌! I wanted to eat food made with ingredients from Izu, so I was right to choose this place! There were several types of pasta and main dishes, and they all looked delicious, so I had a hard time choosing. I chose pasta🌽 because it was a taste I didn't see much elsewhere, but the corn and prosciutto went well together and was delicious. I was satisfied with both the amount and the taste✨ When other guests are there, there are some gaps between meals, but personally I was glad that I could eat slowly. We spontaneously came for dinner and had an absolutely amazing pizza, freshly made by the very attentative and friendly owner. The dough felt very close to a traditional Italian pizza and the ingredients were fresh and tasty. He was so kind that he even helped us to order a taxi after we had finished our dinner. Thanks for this evening!

I was honestly surprised by how good the pizza was here. I didn’t expect much at first, having pizza in Japan, and in such a small town, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But I was really happy with my choice. I ordered the Rucola e Capricciosa, and it was absolutely delicious. The ham was perfectly selected, and the cheese had a very rich flavor and gave the pizza a wonderful depth. You could really taste that it was made with care and good-quality ingredients. The ginger drink I had with it was quite strong, but I loved it. Overall I left very satisfied. A lovely, well-made pizza that exceeded my expectations, especially in such a small town.

Best Italian food we’ve had in Japan! Cozy little restaurant with friendly service and bright atmosphere. We had the swordfish tomato sauce linguine, green peas and sausage pasta, and margarita pizza. Each dish came with a green salad and a flan type custard. Each meal was ¥1200. Arrived around 12:30 and waited about 20 minutes for a seat. Only 18 seats total inside the restaurant. Would definitely go there again.

Japanese restaurant
Sushi restaurant
Honke Maguroya Izukogen head office is a serene Japanese seafood eatery that offers a warm and hospitable dining experience. The restaurant's specialty, Kinmedai (golden eye snapper), is highly recommended and praised for its freshness and delicious flavor. Visitors can enjoy a variety of dishes including raw and baked fish, rice bowls, sushi, and sets such as the sashimi on rice and the kinmedai set.
You have to try the local fish here. There is free parking outside. The restaurant is authentic Japanese style. We didn’t come with reservations.

This is the most distinctive sashimi I've had in Japan. Highly recommended! I'll definitely come back next time! Also, if you travel with a dog, this restaurant is very friendly. They provide a special room for people traveling with dogs. It's a pity I didn't bring a dog along. Otherwise, I could have enjoyed a meal with pets.
June P — Google review
I visited this sushi restaurant and ordered the 富士山サーモンにぎり (Fuji-san Salmon Nigiri, 2 pieces) and the 鮪屋定食 (Maguro Set Meal). It was an excellent experience overall. I tried several kinds and cuts of tuna, each with different textures and fat content, and every piece was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The variety on the menu was impressive, almost overwhelming in a good way and it made choosing quite difficult. As a tuna lover, the Maguro set was the perfect choice. I’ve rarely had tuna this good; every bite was a pleasure. The highlight for me, though, was the salmon. It had a wonderful texture and a rich, deep flavor. Together with the rice, it created a perfectly balanced bite, absolutely worth trying. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was beautiful, a traditional Japanese setting with tatami mats and low tables, creating a calm and authentic dining experience. Overall, a delicious and satisfying meal with great fish, warm service, and a lovely traditional ambiance.
Paul O — Google review
This place isn't that great. The food was mediocre as it was slightly too salty. Although the sashimi was not bad, it was not worth the price in my opinion. I think that its standards have diminished due to this place being a tourist spot over the year. Actual Score Overall: 2.6/5 Thoughts: It's not a bad place if you wish for an easy lunch near the area, but I would recommend you try another restaurant due to its price point being too expensive for its quality.

Absolutely amazing experience at Honke Maguroya (本家鮪屋) in Izu! I had the fresh strawberry juice, kinmedai set meal (stewed alfonsino), 7-kind sashimi platter, grilled tuna rib, and grilled tuna cheek. Everything was delicious — especially the tuna rib, rich and flavorful. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed our food very much. However the service really doesn’t feel like it was in Japan. A large tour group was having a meal, and their children were even jumping around on the tatami mats — it was awful.

Kinmedai (golden eye snapper) was the specialty in Ito, so that was all we had and it didn’t disappoint. Sushi was so fresh we had a second serving. Its red skin didn’t alter the taste nor the texture. Its flesh was umami with a hint of natural smokiness. Even when simmered, its flesh retained these characteristics. The broth was light and rounded up this dish very nicely. Freshly grated wasabi (DIY) added the finishing touch. Warm and hospitable service by a Nepalese gentleman (who spoke English).

late Dec-2022 Thanks for many prior reviews. Big help. Parking is free for Illumination hours. Parking lot looks big too. You’re supposed to retrieve paper ticket at ticket counter by showing the e-mail sent to you when you buy ticket online. Rebate is available online. Many fun attractions, separate charge - cycling, cart, balloon, flying chair and children's playground (FOC) and many others. Restaurants choices and food stalls are available too. Chairs, swings and benches are available here and there. Lavatories are located near restaurants area and entrance. The park is compact but the walk is very entertaining. Very much recommended. Even children will have lots of fun from day time. Entrance and exit is through the same wicket. Even visiting solo is fun.
CutePic G — Google review
We came because it’s part of a package with our hotel reservation, but to our surprise, almost every attraction costs extra on top of the admission fee. There is a small free area but not much. Admission is about $60 for 4 people so you basically get into the park and walk around and that’s about it. Parking is $10. Each attraction costs anywhere between 400 yen to 1400 yen per person. I just think this is silly, then why even charge admission? At these for Fuji-Q the admission is free and you pay for each attraction or get a day pass. Totally not worth it.

We have been there on a Golden week this year with our kids and found it very attractive and amazing. The part has lots of both paid and free of charge attractions for everyone even for adults. The food area also has enough shops where you can eat taste food and of course desserts. Very recommended for families with kids and couples as well. Not so far from Tokyo, about 2 hours drive by car.

Great for ages 3-7. Most of the more interesting rides you will need to pay for ( didn't realize this ) they offer a discounted prepaid card that helps a little with the cost. Most rides were a little short and underwhelming. Some of the rides/games weren't in the best working order (VR and Lazer Bots). I was a little disappointed the go carts where only 1 lap.

Specialty Museums
"The Weird Museum for Boys and Girls" is an unconventional museum featuring a diverse collection of historic fashions, vintage toys, horror memorabilia, and other oddities. The museum houses items from the 80s and 90s, including old magazines, war toys, anime memorabilia, video games, dresses, Halloween items, and legendary characters. Additionally, it offers a glimpse into Japan's history during the time of Shogun Tokugawa and William Adams.
Found out that Izu was home to some rather interesting Museums. One of which is this strange place. Filled with lots of trinkets, mannequins, ghosts, and toys; the Museum is like a fever dream for those who love horror and uncanny. It was a fun walk through looking at all that could be found.
Stash P — Google review
It's an amazing collection of weird things boys and girls would find interesting. The name is not a lie. Staff was also very friendly, as they called us a cab when we were done. The only real downside I can think of is the air conditioning isn't great, but it's there. I'm not gonna knock off a star for that though. It's super interesting to just spend an hour wondering around. I dont regret it at all. Make sure you go into the haunted house! It's a good kind of cheese.
Chris D — Google review
It felt less like a museum and more like a rich man's private collection. Still, many of the items on display were very interesting. My main issue was it was a little frightening and may not be suited for young children. There were parts of the attraction I was scared to go to alone, so visit with someone else if you are easily frightened like me. It was also incredibly dusty.
Hunter S — Google review
It really is difficult to detail the contents of a museum as it’ so hug packed with random stuff to a recycle shop or collectors bedroom! There is very little in the way of categorisation and many of the items have seemingly just been scattered throughout the building which really could do with a clean! This place used to be called the Penguin Museum which may explain the giant exhibit of the animal out the front. The collection relates to Japanese and Western pop culture including retro vinyl records, a Godzilla collection, Marilyn Monroe dolls, old-style arcade games, clothing, mannequins, masks, flags, posters, playing cards, costumes, wigs, S&M collectables, toys through the ages, figurines galore and all manner of other bizarre oddities and artefacts.

Sights & Landmarks
The Kadowaki Suspension Bridge is a humble pedestrian pathway that spans 48 meters between two cliffs. It was originally built in the 1980s and replaced in 1997 due to deterioration. The bridge connects a picnic area on one side with a lighthouse on the other, overlooking a narrow inlet along the Jogasaki Coast. Despite being part of the Izu Peninsula UNESCO Global Geopark, nearby rock formations catch more attention than the sturdy and stable suspension bridge itself.
We have been here many times. This place is perfect to just sit down and relax. There is a lighthouse and a suspension bridge here too. There is a rocky cliff of sedimented lava rocks where you can sit down and enjoy the view of the Pacific Ocean.

Safe and easy to get to. Better to enjoy the coastal walk rather than driving straight there, if you have time. This is a popular attraction so you may need to wait at times as people take photos. The water here is very clear.

The coastline, formed by volcanic activity, spans about 5.6 miles and features a picturesque hiking trail with seasonal flowers and breathtaking ocean views. Visitors can traverse the Kadowaki Suspension Bridge, which stretches 157 feet above the water and provides an exhilarating experience for thrill-seekers.
Jogasaki Coast is a rock climber’s paradise, with its rugged cliffs and stunning ocean views making it a perfect spot to spend some time. However, it was quite crowded with tourists during our visit. We parked at the New York Lamp museum area and had a nice walk towards the suspension bridge. (You can park nearer to the bridge if you do not walk to walk, but the car park gets crowded)

From the bridge to Ed of cliff, it is a sight to see. Be very careful especially for elder and children. One mistake can be life so go as much as you can without pushing the boundaries of your limit. It is an amazing view and a sight you do not want to miss.

This place was gorgeous. From the train station it was about 30-35 minute walk to the start point of the hike. The hike wasn’t too bad, it was short and easy. Probably like 20-25 minutes to the bridge. Depending on how fast you walk. But overall it was beautiful and would definitely go back.
Ensku — Google review
Fabulous scenery and a wonderful place to spend an hour or three. Parking is fixed at 500 yen and goes to preserve the site. Be careful around the rocks, at the lighthouse there are unprotected areas, keep an eye on your kids. Well worth the visit! Winds here can be brutal...

Great walk, about 1 h from the the NY lamp museum. Beautil trail and the cliffs are amazing. Easy with 2 young kids (6 and 8)

A lot of tourists on a Sunday - it would be magical if you came on an early time where no one is around. Still cool to see & they sell shaved ice and ice cream here.

Jogasaki Coast is a beautiful and peaceful place to visit! The trail from the New York Lamp Museum to the suspension bridge is especially scenic and enjoyable. 🌊 The views of the coastline and ocean are stunning — I’d definitely recommend going on a sunny day to see the bright blue sea at its best. Perfect spot for a relaxing walk and great photos! 📸

Farmers Markets
JA Fujiizu Ideyukkoichiba is a farmers' market that offers competitive prices for fresh vegetables compared to supermarkets, although the range of options can be limited depending on the time of day, especially in the afternoon. It serves as an excellent place to purchase locally sourced farm produce and offers homemade preserves, tea produced from local plants, peanuts, and various fruits. While there are some good produce available, the selection may not be extensive.
The vegetables here were reasonably priced and wow the yakisoba!!! Best I’ve ever had for ¥300. He makes every single one fresh. Stop by if you drive by!!
ItsHelenKayy — Google review
Reasonable pricing for more fresh vegetables against supermarket, however very limited selections depending on timing…especially in the afternoon.

Boranaya is a unique eatery located in a refurbished fisherman's cabin from the 17th century, situated along the captivating Jogasaki Coast in Shizuoka Prefectures Ito City. This hidden gem offers an array of delectable dishes made with freshly-caught seafood sourced from the nearby ocean. Particularly renowned are their succulent kinmedai (red bream) nitsuke and shabu-shabu preparations.
lifechanging. the food was so good i felt tears in my eyes. if you’re going to splurge one one meal in it, do it here. eating this made me so happy. i am immensely glad to be here. even the miso soup was a good experience. i don’t know how they make miso soup so good, but it’s so good. PLEASE come here say real the food DAMN good trust. it’s so good just come. my sis hates everything we eat but THIS meal was different. EVEN the wasabi was damn good i don’t know how they did it. they vibes also AMAZING and the staff VERY NICE. i was exhausted tired breathless sleepy before this meal but now i have BOUNDLESS ENERGY. the fish so FRESH everything damn NICE i am licking the plates

This building was fisherman's shack in old days and they made into a restaurant and offers local fresh fish. The service was outstanding and food was excellent

Food is fresh & delicious, slightly salty for the steam fish. We presented our parking ticket & restaurant deduct the fee from the bill. It's an alternative parking to Jogasaki parking lot.
KG P — Google review
Authentic restaurant with perfect food!!! As a chef can tell you, perfect place. Order a sea bass set “konmedai” , you will remember it for the rest of your life.
Alex ( — Google review
This restaurant is placed beautifully next to the coast. With plenty of menu options, the fish was fresh and delicious. It does get busy around normal lunch hours, but there is a lot of seating.
Alex D — Google review
Nice location, interior and good service. Portion size was good and wasabi was delicious. Fresh sashimi too, nice place to get lunch after visiting the Jogasaki Coast. You have to pay ¥500 parking but if you give the receipt to the restaurant they will return the ¥500
Wannachai B — Google review
After a short hike along the Jogasaki cliffs, it feels good to sit down on the tatami at this very old restaurant to eat some good fish from Shimoda. Prices are a bit high (1700 to 2300¥ for a fish teishoku).
Olivier J — Google review
Great option for a late seafood lunch after Jogasaki hiking! Lunch sets are around 1950jpy, so it's a bit pricey but thought the braised sea bream (first set on the menu) was quite tasty and portions were generous. 25min walk from Jogasaki-kaigen station but they have call-taxi numbers at the desk so you can call one (attaching photo of numbers, you can call any of first 3). They could pick me up in 10min.

Conveyor belt sushi restaurant
Uoiso is a popular spot for takeout during the pandemic, offering high-quality sushi with Izu-level freshness. The wait of around 20 minutes is well worth it, as the sushi comes with the names of the fish written in Japanese on the takeout dish and even includes powdered matcha. The restaurant prides itself on using local produce for their fish and sashimi, and their pricing is competitive with fast service.
A very laymen local cultural Italian restaurants. Foods are tasty, size is great. The people is nice, the place is warm and quiet. Limited parking lots outside. Will visit again for sure. Missed the shopkeepers...
Wild B — Google review
An old gentleman was working at the counter to serve us sushi rolls. He was incredibly quick with our orders: they came back almost instantly :). Sure at the time there was almost nobody but us in the restaurant. The sushi rolls were fine, but we didn't like the swordfish ones that much. We had a party of 4 and we spent ¥11,100. Cash only.
Yisheng Z — Google review
The sushi chef looks so cool and nice! They provided an English menu for us!! The fish was so fresh and yummy! Highly recommend this place! We finished 20 plates and the price is reasonable!

Good quality as a lot of the fish/sashimi are local produce. The arajiru was surprisingly delicious for the price. The pricing is also competitive and the service is fast. I would definitely visit again if another opportunity comes by.
Phoenix H — Google review
We really enjoyed our diner! Staff were friendly, trying some few French words as welcoming, translating some Japanese fish names to English when they read on our face we tried to understand what we’ve just eaten. Vibes were nice, sushis amazing (many different kind of fishes…) Thank you for this moment 🐟
Hélène R — Google review
Did takeout during the pandemic and the quality of the sushi was really good, Izu-quality freshness. Took 20 mins or so but worth the wait! They wrote the name of the fish (in Japanese) on the takeout dish so we would know what was what. Even came with powdered matcha!
Kayo T — Google review
Good sushi but I felt it was a little expensive. The parking area is small so avoid busy hours.

Some of the best sushi I've had in Japan. Conveyor belt style with plates 3-500 yen for two pieces. All of the fish I had was fantastic - normally there are a few hits and a few misses, but everything was great! Don't speak much English but they have an English menu and are friendly. Highly recommend

(Translated by Google) Never again! Go to Purucino instead! Even if the pasta tastes good, I’ll never go back. We all had the worst experience ever because of that one lady with mad attitude who just doesn’t wanna make you happy. I understand why it has a 3.6 rating with so many reviews. I will never go again. It's the height of bad feeling. This is the first time I've written such a bad review, but it's a restaurant that is run by a woman who is really arrogant and scary, and it doesn't turn around at all. It's full of rules on posters, and the restaurant is not relaxing at all, and with this attitude, it's easy to see why only tourists come to this restaurant. I've never heard good rumors from locals. I told the children not to talk loudly, but there was also a poster saying to talk quietly, and I was banging my spoon and fork all the time, so I couldn't enjoy it at all. I definitely don't recommend it. I myself come from a customer service background, so it's annoying to see people like this who don't have the capacity working in the customer service industry. Good meat and fabulous service. The appearance and interiors are stylish, like a Japanese old house, and the vibe is amazing. It’s good for a reunion for family members or your anniversary. Compared to similar restaurants in Tokyo, the price is relatively reasonable. The restaurant must be popular among citizens because they said it has been 40 years since it was established
Yuko — Google review
I recently moved to the area. I’ve had several hamburger steaks or Hamburg as it’s called here as I’ve learned my way around. This place was heads and shoulders above the others. It’s clean, elegant and has a nice view of a Japanese garden styled courtyard from the counter. The service is great. There were a few people when I came on a weekday and two were just leaving as I sat down so I was the only one at the counter. It’s Teppanyaki style which means the chef cooks your food right in front of you on the grill. He was cheerful and friendly. It was a set meal with rice, miso Soup, a salad and choice of drink. I had iced coffee. I have a pretty low budget, so I only spent about ¥2000 for everything including tax. If you’re new to Japan, and on a low budget a place like this is great to enjoy the Japanese hospitality which is world famous and get a good meal for a reasonable price. I’m from the USA and you would never get anything freshly cooked this kind of personal service there for Anywhere near this price. The menu for lunch ranges from ¥1600 to about 10 ¥20,000 which is a little less than $200. I’m pretty sure the dinner menu is higher as to be expected. But that’s high quality steak with all the extras. I went to Cowboys nearby in Kawana, and the price was about the same but the atmosphere was worn out 40 years old without an update and the food wasn’t as good. This place would be a nice romantic dinner spot too. I highly recommend it.

The Teddy Bear Museum is a must-visit spot if you're a fan of teddy bears and stuffed animals. The museum has a wide variety of bears, including some from as early as 1904, and exhibits on how these toys are made. It's usually not too crowded, making it an ideal place to spend some time alone or with friends.
Cutest museum ever! The place was super cute and cozy, the teddy bears were surprisingly very interesting and the Totoro exposition was perfect, they had a workshop where you can make your own teddy bear but you have to check the times before! I missed the workshop by 5 min 😭, but either way the expo was super fun to look at!
Daniela C — Google review
The museum is so cute, it has a good mix of actual history on teddy bears and then unique/cute ones. Some amazing displays as well and a build a bear style workshop. There is also a really good selection of Ghibli items and scenes. Plenty of photo opportunities and they have a great bakery with some really cool cookies and sweets. Unfortunately I didn’t get to their tea room in enough time to try anything but the menu looks good.
Baslaura — Google review
If you love teddy bears or plushies in general this is a great museum! There are many vintage and rare bears and the displays on the first floor are very detailed, interesting and cute! The top floor has a Totoro exhibition when I visited and there is also a workshop where you can make your own teddy bear. The highlight for me was seeing the vintage bears and also the garden cafe was very cute. You can have tea with a teddy and there’s also a small couch for a plushie you brought or bought to sit with you while you enjoy the cafe too!
Lana J — Google review
This was a delight, plenty of Toto for Ghibli fans, cute cafe where a teddy is sat waiting for you, pudding was delicious, brownie tiny but quite dark chocolate. Lots of photo oops too. If you want to build a Totoro check timings for the workshops, think there was 3 a day. There's two gifts shops, the first upstairs then down to the next one. Really good quality gifts, reasonably priced. Very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours on Izu, especially on a rainy day. Three teenagers all enjoyed it.
Bruni L — Google review
a must go if you are into cute toys. it is cute that many people love teddy bears enough to make a museum for it. you get to see teddy bear exhibitions + a whole section for totoro. entry is 200yen cheaper if you present your mount omuro chairlift ticket to the cashier. there’s also a teddy bear making workshop but unfortunately i didn’t participate. there’s also a souvenir shop with various cartoon characters and a baked goods shop. i spent around 30-45 minutes here in total. a small museum but still very interesting and cute!
Goo — Google review
Fantastic little Muesum full of plushies much older than this little guy. Many of the Teddies have names and history which is quite fun to read. And the floor above is a fun little Ghibli plushie exhibit, great for fun photos. Lots of fun
Stash P — Google review
We loved the gardens and the shop! You need to make a reservation to build your own Totoro, but that was a big highlight for our daughters. Well worth the price for a custom stuffed toy.
Amy T — Google review
The Izu Teddy Bear Museum is easily accessible, with no waiting time since you can buy tickets on-site for just 1,400 yen per adult. It’s an affordable and fun stop if you're in the area, featuring a variety of bears in sizes ranging from mini to large. There’s also a small bear shop and a cafeteria, though we only visited the museum and picked up some cards and a mini plush toy as souvenirs. Parking is free and access is simple. You can pay with MasterCard or Visa, but having cash on hand can be helpful. Google Translate is useful for purchasing tickets, and Google Maps can guide you to nearby attractions. Definitely worth a visit!

The New York Lamp Museum & Flower Garden is a unique destination offering a blend of art and nature. Situated near the Jogasaki Coast, it features an impressive collection of Tiffany lamps and stained glass art from the American art nouveau period. Visitors can also enjoy stunning ocean views and explore a seasonal flower garden with sunflowers dominating the landscape in summer. The museum provides a serene sanctuary for admiring splendid art while the cafe offers an opportunity to relax amidst this floral paradise.
Summer - sunflowers dominate the landscape (in May, chrysanthemums) overlooking the calm Pacific and the rugged Shizuoka coast. Kids and adults alike will definitley enjoy the floral feast of this exquisite garden. The stained glass lamps and windows' museum is a gorgeous sanctuary of splendid art. A bit pricey: the entrance and the food at the shop, but you wouldn't mind it because it's a flower heaven.
Tiziano — Google review
Eclectic combination flower garden and Tiffany lamp exhibit. Which is really quite good. Because Tiffany lamps have floral themes it works with the garden. Even in December some flowers were out and we would go back in spring. Very dog friendly. Some steep trails. Shop and cafe as well.
Douglas A — Google review
A very interesting combination of lamps and flower gardens but it makes sense when you learn about the history behind this place. It's not very big but there's a number of spectacular photo spots and the facilities are well-maintained. I strongly suggest going in June when the hydrangeas bloom, the hydrangea garden makes up almost half the area and is closed when out of season. There's also a cafe and gift store. This place is right at the entrance to the two hiking trails that go up the Jogasaki Coast and eventually get to the lighthouse and suspension bridge, so you can't miss it.

Very unique and very beautiful place. It's open Garden, you can go with your Family and friends. Ocean view from the top is clear and mind relaxing. For visitors camera stands are available so everyone can take perfect photos. Also there are different areas of the park with different look, I liked the sky of umbrellas, actually everything is perfect. Lamps are so antique and unique all the details are clear and specific it is work of dedication and perfection. For pet they have so many cute options for photoshoot must explore that. Restaurant inside have some decent options however I personally felt it was costly. 1km walk to Jogasaki coast was beautiful experience. We took the Jungle path so it was easy and suggested for elderly and parents. Enjoy your time. I visited this place in Golden week. 30April2022.

The sculptures are very impressive, the staff takes time to explain a few important points about the art. I really enjoyed this museum, there are very few tourists going, but I felt it was worth the time.

(Translated by Google) This is a museum that displays sculptures collected by the owners, Yoshimitsu and Shigeko Yamamoto, over the course of their many years of exchange with China. The exhibits include masterpieces that are considered cultural assets, and collections of this magnitude are rare even in China and Taiwan. In particular, works made from ivory are prohibited from international trade under the Washington Convention, so it is unlikely that works as large as the ones on display here will ever be created again. It is a little disappointing that the works are displayed without any context and do not deepen your understanding of Chinese decorative sculpture, but it is still enjoyable just to appreciate the superb craftsmanship.

(Translated by Google) There is a discount coupon on the website, but it seems that the discount amount differs between showing the smartphone screen and printing it out. I recommend printing it out. The exhibits are gorgeous, impressive, and detailed! Since I went to the National Palace Museum in Taiwan, I have always been interested in Jewel Pier, so this was my long-awaited visit. I entered the museum 30 minutes before closing, but the staff member said, "It's okay to extend," so I was able to view it for about an hour. The exhibits were more substantial than I expected, so I felt very sorry to have to extend my time, and I don't think it's a service I can always expect, but I was very grateful for the offer. It seems that you can read the explanation of the works with a QR code, so I would like to stay longer next time. I was amazed by the superb craftsmanship of the sculptures, and since the works have a story, I personally felt that if I wanted to view them in detail, I wouldn't get bored even if I watched them for 2-3 hours.

Photography was permitted inside the museum, so I took photos in several places. All of the intricate ivory carvings, with details that will take your breath away, are worth seeing. As it was a weekday and there were not many visitors, I was able to take my time looking around. This is a recommended spot for anyone interested in sculptures and other art. (Translated by Google) It's a wonderful collection. There are many ivory pieces that are in the National Palace Museum in Taiwan. It's a miracle that this can be seen in Japan. I want more people to know about it and see it. It was empty on the day we went, so we had the place to ourselves, but it's a great place that you can take a tour of on a tour bus. They also sell souvenirs on the way back. Lake Ippeki

3.7

Scenic spot
Nestled in the heart of Izu, Lake Ippeki is a serene and picturesque destination that beckons nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The lake is surrounded by a scenic forest path perfect for leisurely strolls or delightful picnics with family and friends. Beyond its tranquil waters, visitors can explore an array of fascinating museums nearby, including the Izu Lake Ippeki Museum showcasing exquisite art pieces, as well as unique collections like antique perfume bottles and Victorian jewelry.
Outstanding walk in late autumn. Overcast day is best to enjoy the colours. Rin Rin highly recommends
Christopher A — Google review
Lake Ippeki (一碧湖) is a calm and scenic spot best suited for locals or slow-paced travelers with time to spare. While peaceful and photogenic in its own right, it lacks standout features to justify a detour for most tourists. (2/5) Full Review Lake Ippeki: A Quiet Pause, But Not a Destination Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) Not every attraction in Japan needs to dazzle or overwhelm. Some, like Lake Ippeki (一碧湖), offer a softer appeal—a whisper rather than a shout. Tucked away in the Izu Peninsula, this lake exudes a quiet serenity that locals no doubt treasure. For travelers who enjoy wandering through lesser-known corners of Japan, this location might serve as a pleasant interlude. But for most tourists, especially those navigating a tight itinerary, this may not be a worthwhile stop. There are a few charming touches: the ability to take a small boat onto the lake to reach a tiny island, for instance, does offer a touch of novelty. The forest trail that rings the lake provides a shaded, tranquil setting for a contemplative walk or picnic. In the right season—perhaps a crisp autumn afternoon or early spring morning—it could very well feel like a peaceful escape from the crowds. But the key word here is could. For the average tourist, especially those looking to maximize their time and experience, Lake Ippeki simply doesn’t stand out. The views, while pretty, lack the grandeur of more dramatic lake destinations like Kawaguchiko or Ashi. The facilities are minimal, the signage isn’t particularly tourist-friendly, and unless you’re armed with a car and a leisurely attitude, getting here can feel more like a detour than a discovery. That said, I don’t mean to diminish its worth entirely. For residents of the Izu area or frequent travelers to Japan looking for something quiet, off the beaten path, this could be a delightful spot to recharge. Sometimes, a place doesn’t need to be thrilling—it just needs to be still. Lake Ippeki offers stillness in spades. But for those weighing opportunity costs—the time, transport, effort—it’s difficult to recommend this site above other regional highlights. It’s a place that asks for time, and gives you calm in return. If that’s your travel style, you might find value here. Otherwise, I’d suggest allocating your hours elsewhere. Verdict: Lake Ippeki is a local gem, not a tourist must-see. Peaceful and lightly photogenic, it works well for those with time to spare—but may leave others wondering what else they could’ve done instead.

Beautiful lake surrounded by forests. Pleasnatly quiet and great for a stroll. There's a small parking spot nearby, however you can also drop off at a nearby local bus stop. You can also rent a small paddle boat.

A small crater lake, 6km south of Ito city. The circumference is only 4 km, but this is the largest lake in Izu Peninsula where there are very few lakes and ponds. There are twelve islands, and the beautiful scene reflecting the Amagi Mountains on the lake is known as the ”the eye of Izu”. There are 250 cherry trees planted along the lake, with campsites. The lake is stocked with carp, black bass and bluegill, and is popular for fishers as well as people riding boats.

There are a few cafes along the lake. It’s beautiful but there is nothing much to do.

Terrace Cafe Ippekiko is a rare find that opens at 7am, making it one of the few places where you can enjoy breakfast early in the morning without having to travel all the way to Shimoda. It's a beautiful spot to savor a morning coffee, and while I didn't sample their food, I found their coffee and service to be excellent.
Amazing food. You can rent a paddle boat down at the lake, but they're definitely made for people who aren't 180+ cm.

Izukogen Beer Umaimondokoro offers a selection of five Izu-Kogen craft beers, including kolsh, alt, stout, Premium and liquor with local citrus. Additionally, they have a seasonal Weizen that is highly praised for its rich aroma. The Russian-style light stout and the Weizen are particularly recommended. The menu features mainly ocean-sourced dishes but also includes fried chicken and potato options at reasonable prices.

(Translated by Google) I was looking for a place to eat simmered golden-eyed snapper and finally found this place. I went around 1pm on a weekday during the Obon holidays, but as expected, they couldn't get me in right away, so I wrote my name down and was able to get in about 20 minutes later. My husband and I ordered a set meal of simmered yellowtail collar and sashimi, a set meal of simmered golden-eyed snapper and sashimi, and a single serving of rockfish tempura. Everything was delicious, but the simmered dish was especially amazing! Refills of rice are free, so we ate more and more. The chawanmushi that came with it was also delicious, with a strong dashi broth. If I'm in Ito, I'd definitely like to go again! Thank you for the meal! (Translated by Google) Chinese people don't lie to other Chinese people, please everyone, you absolutely must try this place!!! First, the price is very reasonable. For only 2500 yen, you get sashimi and soy sauce-braised golden snapper, and the taste is excellent. Second, the service is exceptionally good. This is the only time in Japan I've been invited to sit at a large table even when I went in alone. Third, because I don't know Japanese, I ordered the wrong drink. I saw the words "plum wine" and thought it was plum wine, but it was beer. I felt it was my fault, so the auntie wanted to remove the beer, but I refused. Halfway through the meal, she brought me another glass of plum wine, wanting to replace it. I thought two glasses would be nice, so I declined and had the beer removed. The plum wine was indeed delicious, but surprisingly, in the end, they only charged me the 2500 yen set meal and the 500 yen beer; the 900 yen plum wine was free! Next time I'm in Izu, I will definitely eat here again!!! Please support this restaurant!

Seafood restaurant
Izu Kogen Beer Main Branch is a popular spot for craft beer enthusiasts, offering four different types of craft beers and two liquors. The restaurant has a "fishermen's foods" concept and has been around for 20 years. While the location is a bit distant from train terminals, it offers nearby lodgings for those who may need them after enjoying the beer selection. Visitors have praised the delicious food options, particularly the seafood dishes, and have found the variety to be impressive.
Fantastic value for money! I ordered the fisherman’s bowl during my visit and it was an absolute delight for the price. The seafood was a true feast for the senses, with a delightful variety of fresh and flavorful options. From the delicate and silky sashimi to the chewy and succulent squid, each bite tasted refreshing. The generous portion was a bonus, and I was thrilled to discover that beneath the “cone” of seafood was in fact more seafood, not rice! If I must nitpick, perhaps two onsen eggs were too much. The rice bowl eventually turned into a slimy seafood congee… But it was still delicious! I also tried the fried horse mackerel. It was perfect. The fish was perfectly fried, with a crispy skin that gave way to fluffy and tender meat. It was cooked to perfection, not oily at all, but packed with flavor and punch! The miso soup was a delightful contrast to the fisherman’s bowl. It provided a refreshing break from the rich and indulgent seafood. I highly recommend Izu Kogen Beer for the delicious seafood and great value for money. I’m definitely looking forward to my next visit!

Not all Japanese people can speak English. This is Japan and you should learn Japanese. My wife and I communicated with them using a translator. They make an effort to talk to us. We should praise them for their efforts. You should not make critical comments like the one below. This is Japan. You should learn Japanese. The service is not bad. This is not a hotel. This is just a store in the town. One girl spoke to us. I was grateful to see her trying her best even though she only had a little English. Also, I don't think it's right to make noise during meals. You three were able to do it, right? I hope you don't ruin our impression.

The **Kawana Stained Glass Museum** in Ito, Shizuoka, is a charming seaside spot that showcases breathtaking collections of antique stained glass, many of which were brought from European churches and chapels dating back to the 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors are welcomed into a serene atmosphere where sunlight streaming through the vivid glass panels creates a magical play of colors across the museum halls. Besides the exhibits, the museum also offers scenic ocean views, making it a peaceful blend of art, history, and nature. It’s a hidden gem for those who love culture, photography, and quiet moments away from the city.

Kawana Dolphin Beach is a serene and picturesque destination located just 3.5 km from the K'S House Ito Onsen - Historical Ryokan Ito. This beach offers clear waters and a rocky area that is perfect for snorkeling, allowing visitors to marvel at the diverse marine life. While it may be a bit challenging to reach due to steep hills, it's well worth the effort once you arrive.

It's a pebble beach instead of sand so the water is very clear but it makes walking very painful. Also it's just full of old men fishing which makes wanting to swim awkward because you don't want to ruin their fishing and you don't want to step on an old hook. Plus the surrounding area is dead almost like a ghost town with no restaurants or shops and the places it does have are seemingly always closed. Been here 2 days and only found one "grocery store" that was open near the beach that only sold like 6 cup Ramen varieties and som pocky.
Alvis L — Google review
One of the clearest and most accessible beach in Atami and Ito area. An arduous journey from Kawana station due to the steep hills and slope, nevertheless it's a wonderful spot. Pebbly rather than sandy but the good side is it's not messy when you set up a camp, doesn't obscure the view under water etc. Fishing, BBQ and pets are allowed; not really strict. Cons: not much shops/eateries around so it's best to pack your own food; virtually no shower stations! Just a few spouting faucets--a freaking hassle!
Tiziano — Google review
It’s small beach but good spot for fishing. Mountain background, beautiful nature. Fabulous!

I was disappointed to be honest. For fishing maybe For just chilling… there are better options. You have to go by car, otherwise you will need a taxi. Apps like Didi, Go taxi, etc. don’t work in the area, so you will need to call for taxis.

Otonashi Shrine, located in Ito city, is a local shrine known for its impressive giant camphor trees. The shrine hosts the Siri-tsumi Matsuri festival, dedicated to the Japanese Shinto god. This festival is a lively and exciting event that showcases traditional dedication rituals and celebrates both victory and defeat. Visitors can observe people making offerings at the shrine and take a moment to rest on nearby benches or use the nearby lavatory facilities.
In Ito city we have the festival called Siri-tsumi Matsuri; it's for a knd of the dedication for the japanese God(Sintoism) This festival is so excited coz of that style for the victory and loose. Look and have a fun!!

Had the pleasure to see people making an offering to the shrine in detail the first time here. There's a nearby lavatory and some benches to grab a quick rest and read.

It's a little worrying, but cars can enter. The founding is unknown, but since there is talk of Yoritomo, it must have been an old shrine that existed before the Kamakura period. The old shrine has old trees, and this one also has a fine tabu tree. The grounds are well-cleaned. [Deity] Toyotamahime [History] The founding is unknown. Toyotamahime is worshiped as the deity, and it attracts believers for the benefits of fertility and safe childbirth, and has a unique (although fairly widespread) custom of offering a ladle with a hole in it, called a "bottomless ladle," as a metaphor for safe childbirth. It is also known as the place where Minamoto no Yoritomo and Princess Yae met; it is said that Yoritomo would wait until sunset at Higurashi Hachiman Shrine (Sakuragicho, Ito City) on the opposite bank before meeting at Otonashi Shrine, and they (and their son, Chizurumaru) are enshrined at Tamakusu Shrine within the shrine grounds. The annual festival on November 10th is known as the strange Shiritsu Festival, which has been held since around 1640, in which "in the pitch black shrine building, people signal by pinching their neighbor's buttocks as they pass around sacred sake," and on the day a buttocks sumo tournament is also held in honor of buttocks. This shrine is located along the Matsukawa River that flows through the city. It is the romantic spot where Minamoto no Yoritomo and Princess Yae spoke of their love, and enshrines Toyotamahime, the goddess of safe childbirth and matchmaking. Many hollow-bottomed ladles have been donated to the shrine as prayers for safe childbirth and thanks for giving birth. Within the shrine grounds, there is the 1,000-year-old Tabu Tree, a natural monument, as well as a historical picture scroll painted by local high school students. As I visited early in the morning amid a continuous light rain, the grounds were quiet and I was unable to receive a goshuin stamp. Ikeda 20 Seiki Museum is a charming art museum located in a tranquil setting, showcasing an impressive collection primarily focused on 20th-century artworks. Visitors can admire works by renowned artists such as French classics, Picasso, Dali, and Miro. It offers a unique experience as it's often less crowded compared to museums in Tokyo, making it an ideal destination for art enthusiasts seeking a peaceful and enriching cultural excursion.
Surprisingly rich collection housed in striking modern architecture. Easy to access and well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

One of many small but surprisingly rich art museums dotting Japan. A legacy of wealthy industrialists from the 70s and 80s. The top floor is European 20th century masters and the bottom floor is Japanese artists from the same period, so you can see a lot of similarities in styles. It took us a bit less than an hour to cover it all. There's a small shop as well with good books. ¥1000 to enter.

(Translated by Google) Used for touring. I was aiming for conger eel kamameshi, but it wasn't available until 12:30...I was a little disappointed. Was there no stock? Wouldn't it be nice if there was an out-of-stock indication on the menu? In the end, I decided on the scalloped rice set meal. The taste is delicious, but just average. The sashimi is also decent. Tokoroten is harvested near Amakusa, so I think it's a local product. It has almost no odor and is easy to eat. Please note that the kamameshi is cooked to order, so it takes about 30 minutes. Miso soup was delicious. The portions are large, so if you eat it all, you'll feel satisfied. Tatami seats offer a good view, while table seats do not offer a good view, so we recommend using the tatami rooms if possible. I expected it to be crowded, but there are more seats than I expected, so there's a good chance that you'll be fine even if it's a surprise visit. By the way, smoking is prohibited inside the store, and there is an ashtray outside, so if you smoke, please do so there.

Ramen restaurant
Yoshidaya is a popular spot known for its delicious and affordable ramen. Visitors rave about the great value and tasty dishes, making it a must-visit for those looking to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine without breaking the bank.
I've been coming here for about 30+ years when I'm in Japan. I heard stories where the owner will yell at you if you don't finish your meal but that's not true. The son runs the shop now and the food is still amazing. Parking is good and there has been a line the past few times I've been. Cash only vending machine that takes new bills. I'm biased but this is the best ramen I've had in Japan. Normal toppings is 1 thick chashu, cabbage, spinach, and nori. My picture below is the regular size chashu.

Simple ramen shop. You buy food tickets at a machine next to the entrance, and the staff will bring the food to you. Portions are big and flavours are heavy. A bowl with ramen with sliced roasted pork costs about 1,000 yen, and you can add additional egg, seaweed and pork for 100 to 400 yen. Good affordable option for a quick hearty meal

(Translated by Google) I always pass by this ramen shop, and I was curious about it because it's always crowded, so I went there on Sunday! First of all, the queuing method is unique, so first-timers should be careful. First, ① buy a meal ticket. ② hand it over to the staff. ③ At that time, tell them your car's license plate number and other details. ④ Then wait. In other words, once you buy a meal ticket, you can't cancel and leave? It seems that's the rule. Also, once your turn comes and you enter the shop, the ramen comes out immediately, so you don't have time to go to the bathroom, so be careful. And the ramen itself is the best in the area. I waited an hour, but it was worth it. There's spicy miso and garlic in front of you, but I think it's best to eat it as is. I feel like adding too much spicy miso and garlic ruins the delicious flavor of the ramen.

I regularly visit the Nagano Prefecture restaurant, especially the Shiojiri restaurant, even though it's nearly 40 kilometers from my home. I assumed this was the origin of the flavor, so I made a solo trip all the way from Nagano Prefecture to visit. It operates in the same style. And the flavor is exactly the same. The only difference is that they offer miso and salt flavors. Also, it comes with cabbage by default, but in larger portions than the Nagano restaurant. I've never tried Souhonzan, but for me, it's an iekei ramen I want to try before I die. Above all, experiencing the same flavor was a great reward. On the flip side, you don't have to travel all the way from Nagano Prefecture to enjoy it. If I have the chance, I'll definitely revisit. I've tried many iekei ramen restaurants in Nagano Prefecture and neighboring prefectures. This one and its affiliated restaurants in Nagano Prefecture are by far the best for me.
