The staff are very friendly, although at the end a little pushy to get us out. I got the Arrabbiata which was described as home made pasta with a spicy tomato sauce and jalapeños. I was left disappointed with what was presented to me. The pasta didn’t appear to be homemade and looks like it came from a box and the texture was the same of my boxed pasta al dente. The flavor was ok. I don’t think it was spicy at all, and adding large chunks of jalapeño did not really help the case either. Others at my table got the spicy vodka sauce which, while wasn’t spicy, had some good flavor. The same with the pesto, a more earthy dish which was ok. The atmosphere was nice for where this location is. If you sit on the top floor, you are perfectly set. The basement however smells funky when there aren’t that many people around. The highlights of the meal were definitely the Erbazzone and the Semolina Cakes, which were both small plates. The Agnolotti (ravioli) itself had a delicious corn cream filling that was on par with the appetizers, but the mushrooms in the dish contrasted rather than enhanced the corn flavor in our opinion. The hazlenut torta was also excellent, it came with a banana gelato that really made the dish, and graham cracker crumbs, everything played really well together. We’ve heard about Giulia for months now, reputed as one of, if not the best Italian restaurant in Massachusetts, which meant we had extremely high expectations going in. Brookline has a lot of ethnic bakeries and Athan’s is among the local’s favorites. During my recent visit, I was immediately greeted by the attentive staff, who guided me through their variety of Baklava. From start to finish, it was great working with the team, Chris & Amanda! We emailed countless questions leading up to the day and they were always great in getting things answered and problem solving as needed. They have worked on many weddings and it shows why people continue to choose them. We had a wedding of about 60 guests and the space had more than enough room. We were able to utilize the patio space as well to get air when needed and so it was great to be able to spread out so comfortably. They could easily handle a larger wedding though as we originally were looking at higher numbers when we started. While your wedding day is overwhelming and you don't often get time to eat, the team made sure to bring us food on their upstairs balcony where we could hide out after our ceremony to eat and get a little quiet time away from guests. They also made sure to package anything we didn't eat (and the many leftover desserts that I overordered on from an outside source) for us to pick up the next day. We were so grateful for this and the food was still great as leftovers--truly! Their service is truly unmatched and they also are great in handling food restrictions/allergies--guests specifically noted this! They brought out smaller portions for those guests when needed so they still had enough options. We are still getting compliments on the food and drinks as well as atmosphere. We can't wait to celebrate many anniversaries eating dinner here too as the food is what absolutely sold us. We especially enjoyed getting to make our own cocktails which guests also raved about.
