We ended up ordering from the restaurant week menu that included a main dish and a dessert for $25 (plus tax and tip). Two in our party ordered the steak and eggs, which added $15 per order, which was fine overall however the steak was not cooked as requested. Due to the nearly non-existent service, it was not worth waiting to ask to have the steak cooked more. We were there for brunch, arrived at 1:30 pm with less than a handful of other tables present. Our waiter was more concentrated on cleaning up after the guests left, which meant our water glasses sat empty for up to 15-20 minutes at times. The waiter also forgot to bring the order as requested for the huevos rancheros - asked for the chorizo, which is part of the meal, on the side, meal arrived without it and when I asked for it to be brought to the table an additional $3 charge appeared on the bill. While we are glad that we were not rushed out of the restaurant, being neglected and having to wait for extended periods is also to be avoided. Then they stored all the food in containers, organized my pantry when they put my things away, whew!!! I’ve had small catered events (Thanksgiving) but nothing as full service as this. Our waiter was fast with bringing our chips and salsas out (delicious by the way!!), and we placed an order for brisket nachos - we had no idea they were half off on Mondays, so they came out to about $12.50. I chose the burrito to be topped with queso (included) and I wished I ordered it on the side because it was a little overpowering and drenched the burrito. Its a bit of a dive.. but I like a bit of adventure and I was told they had really good Margherita's.. so I went in.. The atmosphere was a bit lacking but the staff was friendly. Ordered some queso with brisket next. They screwed it up and just brought queso, but fixed it quickly. Definitely much better than the salsa. Also has the bacon wrapped shrimp. It was a bit sweet to taste which I wasn't expecting but okay. I can't say it was a home run though. Probably wouldn't get it again. The fajitas though were great and the beans.. loved the beans and I'm not a big fan of beans normally. So.. for this place to get 4 stars from me. 1) couple screw ups on service. Solve that. 2) invest in a sign and update the place a bit. You have a decent product but I'm sure that people pull up and drive away. 3) change the salsa and green thing. Just didn't do it for me. 4) come up with some combinations of margaritas that are popular. I had to think about it and would be nice to have something to just pick from that had flavors mixed. The management staff reached out to me after seeing my review and kindly offered to invite me back as their guest. That was a wonderful gesture and I do appreciate their responsiveness. Sometimes I get asked the question "Did you say anything to the staff when they came around to see if everything was okay? And if so, why didn't you give them an opportunity to fix it?" And I kinda have two answers to that. First, sometimes when one is with a group of people, with lively conversation, one doesn't want to put a damper on the socializing. The parking lot is a bit small and during peak times you may be out of luck. There is an outdoor patio for people to enjoy weather permitted. I ordered the brisket grilled cheese sandwich and I liked it. They give you plenty of meat and the seasoning was right. The brisket Mac and cheese however was under seasoned and not nearly cheesy enough. That was a miss. The loaded baked potato however was good. I especially liked that they have grass fed and range free meat. I wouldn’t mind going back again.

The fajitas are still your best bet for quality. Everything else in my past few visits has become subpar. Honestly they are starting to play it safe with the seasoning on most dishes. The fajitas are still pretty good. Nice char on everything but honestly starting to lack quality on some of the sides. And they're refined. Beans have become watery. The Chara beans have started to lack season even though I requested guacamole and no avocados anywhere near my plate, they still came with avocado on my dish along with the pinko de gallo and cheese. I asked for sour cream instead. Nowhere in sight even after I had to send the sides back with no guacamole because of my allergy. It's not a taste thing because I would not have sent it back. The sour cream was missing upon return once again. So I proceeded with my meal because I'm not going to send something back twice no matter the mistake. For Taco Tuesday a bit loud even to be what was expected. I don't have a problem when going in into a space and expecting the volume. It's the rowdy guest and physical movement of guest and knocking over of items from guest tables But it was a bit much and enough to mention. I know better than to sit near the bar, but I'm guessing this whole place is the bar now. I always make a stop here for every once in awhile. I try to make and move across the menu inside of a few visits per year. And this year 2025 all I have to say is the fajitas while pretty good There are other places you can go. Xochi was our favorite meal during our trip to Houston. We ordered the pescado (daily catch) and tostadas de camarón (sautéed shrimp on crispy tortillas) which were extremely fresh and flavorful. The protein was cooked perfectly and the vegetables and herbs paired nicely with both dishes. For drinks, we ordered the Nervous Traveller (a fantastic skinny marg) and the world’s best margarita (similar to a Cadillac marg but with aged liquor). Both drinks were excellent, and if we visit Houston again I’m certain we will at least stop by to order these same cocktails. The outdoor seating was very clean and the staff were knowledgeable and timed our dishes perfectly. We don’t normally order dessert, but we splurged since the meal was going so well. We ordered the Helado de Elote (ice cream dish made with corn custard) and it was divine. The cob molds and marigolds made for an impressive presentation, but most importantly we cleaned the plate at a competitive pace 😂 Also, my wife is gluten free and it was very refreshing to have the full menu at her disposal.

My husband literally had to ask 3 times just for his drink to be refilled and we were basically already finished with our meal. We were a party of 4 that went in at around 5pm on a Saturday. These days, you seat yourself & order through an app. If you are not an iPhone user, you have to download the app which I found very annoying. Two of our party ordered carne asada tacos, one ordered a ground beef burrito, & I ordered the chicken enchiladas. The carne asada tacos were ok but had way too many raw onions. The burrito was entirely eaten so must have been good. My chicken enchiladas were absolutely delicious. The thick green tangy sauce was lick the plate good & the Spanish rice was excellent too. The refried beans had good texture but were a little bland. I ordered the pumpkin infused margarita with a sugar rim. It was perfect. Not too sweet and absolutely delicious! The music was very loud & clubby for 5pm. We have not been to El Big Bad in awhile. The food & margaritas are still excellent but we were not a fan of the changes to the service. We will go again eventually, but would go much more often if the service environment was better.
