The entire experience from start to finish absolutely UNDERWHELMING. I honestly can not recall experiencing buyers remorse of this magnitude.
At first glance, coming in, the place looks a little shabby.
The company has NOT decided to use the ample amount of land to actually benefit the animals. The animals are each in individual pins no bigger than the average bedroom.
There's no toys or anything in the pins to keep them stimulated. Not ANY of the cages allowed for people to come in an interact with the animals. High fences, that allowed limited interaction. Meaning the animals might come over to you if you show food, and be fed from behind the gate. These are not really animals for petting though. they didn't have much interest in anything but being fed. none seemed all that friendly or curious to interact.
either.
most of the pins have warnings up advising that the animals might bite or spit lol. I guess they've raised the fences to prevent too much interaction because of it.
if I wanted to stay back & look through a wall at animals I would have gone 2the Houston Zoo.
Large out of date wooden Playground available.
Unused pool. could have been used to give the llama some room.
"petting zoo" experience thumbs down.
Next, the little train.
The guy driving said absolutely nothing before, during or after the ride lol.
He didn't give any trivia, he didn't talk about the animals. There was nothing. A VERY short trip around all the land and the animals in their small pins, Maybe a 2 minute trip??
At Bayou Wildlife Zoo, the tractor ride was over half an hour, the driver very friendly, knowledgeable, we made several stops for him to tell us what animal was what AND, the animals were able to freely roam over a wide space of land. And they were Happy to come on over to us for petting and scratchies and to be fed lol. Full on, access to the animals, but the wide open space allowed for the ANIMALS to chose. Luckily, though there was clearly food on the ground and water available and many animals in their fields there, they still seemed very friendly and eager to be played with and fed. That was at Bayou wildlife Zoo.
I was CERTAIN that the train here would be a similar experience. But nope.
There was no stopping, no talking, animals could not approach the train, they were locked in pins, and there was no option to feed the animals from the train ride.
Really don't get the point.
Thumbs down for the train ride.
Next, the pony ride.
3 horses available, 1 was a miniature horse. my kid was a little squeamish so he naturally pointed to the miniature horse to ride.
we waited our turn with the other little kids and then finally when we got to the front of the line, the woman said he could not ride the miniature horse because he was too big.
I was shocked by that. my skinny mini kid is all of 40lbs.soaking wet & I'd just waited in line watching others , clearly heavier than him ride the same horse.
my kid just turned 6,what in the world is a little kid??
I'd asked what the weight limit was. ( as I'm sure if he doesn't pass it, none of the line before or after him did) .
she says she didn't have a weight limit, they just make sure to only let the babies ride the smaller horse.
final question was "so if a 2year old comes to ride and she's 50lbs and my 6 year old wants to ride and he's 40lbs 2yo can ride and my 6 can not?"
she said yes lol.
the whole thing was just ridiculous. to wait in line that whole time and see all these kids my kids size or larger get right on, and then only mine prevented, was very irritating. especially considering this seems to be the only time in this weird "petting zoo" where you're finally allowed to come in and around an animal.
so pony ride, thumbs down.
I'm just super disappointed that I'd spent the $40 or the time,on this place.
sometimes I'm too eager to try new places. I really wish I would have just returned again to Bayou Wildlife or the Houston Interactive Aquarium or chuck echeese.
