We were short on time so we just explored the Japanese Garden- it was beautiful! Such a fun, calm space to spend time in and walk around - and it has a great view of the Austin skyline. This is amazing place to visit with friends and family because it has two different attractions here. One is actual park with peacocks and garden and other one is multiple trails. Directions are bit loose on Trails so take a picture trail maps. One with white door is the entrance of garden while next to borders or through garden is Trails. Trails are bit hard to follow as there aren't dedicated signs to follow at all times. For example, you can start at one trail however, in the middle the trail, it will split into two ways and you just have to try both and see which one is most utilized or right way to go..however, you will not get lost as people are walking by and trails are short. You will have good view of lake and amazing pictures to take and explore. Bring atleast 3 gallons of water. Rest rooms are actively maintained and water fountain is not available. Portable restrooms are available but as you can guess, they are not that good.

One side is a pay-to-enter swimming hole and there is another hidden free-to-enter entrance that serves as a much smaller swimming hole for the doggies. We had such a great time interacting with the locals and playing with the cute, energetic dogs we didn’t want to leave. Note that the doggie entrance is hidden amongst the trees and down a very steep hill (which is a bit tricky to get up and down). If you are a lover of animals the doggie side is a MUST. We didn’t pay to enter the other side but it is huge and looks soooo cool. If we had our swimming suits we def would’ve gone! What amazed me about the doggie side (and really Austin in general) is how welcome the locals made us. What was also cool is how everyone looked after everyone else’s dogs, taking turns throwing balls for them in the water. No food or drink is allowed as they cannot spray for bugs so as not to contaminate the water and grounds. There are two entrances (Southside and the main entrance through Zilker Park) and it does cost money in the summers but it is currently free until March (we're in November now). They also use to offer free swim from like 5-9am and 9-10pm but not sure if that's still a thing. Parking can be difficult but that's to show how popular it is being an oasis in the heart of Austin. You will see ALL different types of people in all different types of dress (including topless & thongs) but everyone is at the Springs to chill and have a good time (I've also heard the water is a great hangover cure). There are living animals in and around the "pool" such as turtles, ducks, cormorants, fish, salamanders, and at one point there was some sort of eel at the spillway end. There is also plenty of algae and plant growth but everything is harmless and visible in the clear refreshing water. The pool starts at zero depth and continues to on to maybe 6-7ft aside from the dicing area which I believe is 12-13+ feet (it's been awhile and I can't remember exactly anymore). You can see downtown Austin from the pool and sunsets are beautiful. It is wheelchair and stroller friendly, you just have to follow the ramp down to the deck. The bathrooms are large and clean (and cleaned regularly by the guards) with lots of changing areas and bathrooms. Barton Springs has a rich history that it strives to upkeep, especially by the S.O.S - Save Our Springs Alliance. The large, spacious and intricate work on each wall was such a blast to explore over the weekend. I greatly enjoyed every piece.. From the moment we arrived to the nicest and kindest valet you could ask for to the tea after dessert, no moment was less than spectacular. I ordered the truffle deviled eggs and they were amazing! The truffle is strong, but not overly so. If you don’t like truffle you may not be a huge fan because you definitely taste it. The cocktails were fantastic with a wide array of spirits to choose from as well and a whole iPad's worth of wine to browse through. Unfortunately our expectations were severely under met as our server gave us an unpleasant experience. It took over 20 minutes to get tap water and even longer to get our drinks. I could have happily excused this due to the fact that they were busy on a Saturday night. However, while I was still enjoying my glass of wine (I had about half left) and my fiancé and I still had half of our dessert on our table, our server placed the bill in front of us without us asking for the check. He didn’t ask any questions like if my fiancé (who finished his first and only glass of wine) wanted a second pour or if there was anything else he could do for us. By this point we weren’t even seated for 45 minutes, so we weren’t hogging a table that our server could turn (I’m very cognizant of this as I hate sitting at a table when I’m not eating/drinking). All to say, I’m really sad to have had such an unpleasant experience and to have been treated so dismissively. The parking before getting in was a bit hard to find as there’s many different breweries/restaurants in the area but there should be a space for you to find if you look. The interior is nicely decorated with an indoor bar and a view of their distillery behind glass. The outside is nice as well with a food truck, cornhole, and plenty of seating. They’re also dog friendly so keep that in mind if you read this and look to visit. The drink special for the night was $5 gold rushes so we had a few and settled in for the show. The drinks were pretty good, sweet and not too strong but gave a buzz. The comedy was pretty good with a variety of different styles. By the end of it we were definitely glad we came and checked out the venue. Seems like a great place to attend events or shows so hopefully we’ll get out there another time.

A buddy and I were doing a few stops on the Texas Whiskey Trail, and this was our first stop. Our tour guide Charlie was absolutely the best of all the guides we saw over those few days. This was our fourth time visiting, and our first since Hestia received its Michelin star. All members of the front of house staff that attended to our table were inviting, entertaining, and enthusiastic. We felt like a part of the family, particularly as they were helping us celebrate our anniversary! Every dish of their tasting menu offered a really intriguing and delicious take on open hearth preparation. We particularly loved the beef and guanciale dish with the green Thai sauce as well as their staple take on seared scallop. I also left the meal thinking about how simple but beautiful their preparation of kanpachi with pickled roselles was. Lastly, I have to mention that at the end of the meal. It wasn’t until my husband and I looked at our watches that we realized that 2 1/2 hours had gone by. The meal was so expertly timed between the care of the front of house staff, the chef, and kitchen that it never felt like we were waiting for anything. Everything flowed like clockwork. When you're coming here, you're booking for the 45-minute omakase experience. Mind you it is definitely an experience and that does come with a price tag. The place is very cozy and you are sitting at a bar like structure with a sushi chef at the center and a drinks/sake guide. We immediately went in and started to get our nigiri pieces of fish. Each time the chef put a new nigiri on our plate, he explained every single detail that went into making that particular piece of the nigiri. I would definitely say that the additions to the fish really was thought out on all of the flavors to compliment that particular fish. This is definitely an experience because instead of just getting a piece of fish you're getting something very creative. In fact, I would say perhaps something you might not be able to get at other sushi places. We started out and the sushi was pretty good, but as we continued through the courses each piece got better and better. The A5 wagyu Sushi piece was mind-blowing and also the uni was so buttery and did not taste bitter which I give all of the compliments to the sushi chef. As the sauce and pairing of what was in the sushi must have really brought out the flavor. My favorite pieces were the A5 Wagyu, the Ebi, toro, and Uni. I got the sake flight and it was a very good pairing with all of the different sushi pieces. I do wish that I had maybe three to four more pieces of sushi, but maybe that is just wishful thinking because everything was so good. If you haven't been to Omakase in Austin, I would definitely give this a try. I did happen to go the place next door that served hand rolls and got a spicy tuna and salmon. It was incredibly packed. There was a wait for Mario Kart and the shooting games. We were there for 3 hours and never got to play basketball or the motorcycle games. The Gallery turned out to be the upstairs portion of the Club, which we nearly missed bc we didn't know - the website was unclear. The main venue downstairs was booked for a corporate function with a country band. The Gallery was an intimate space with somewhat limited seating. We arrived 30 min early but because of our confusion about the layout, every table & sofa was already occupied by the time we made it upstairs. We (party of 5) managed to find single seats in various places (including a window ledge). Clearly one needs to arrive early. It was SRO by the time the performance began. Paid $15 cover pp, then another $5 for the second act. The acoustics were quite good - not too loud as to deafen, but enough to hear every note. McMurtry (folk singer) was really great - this was a performance by himself - he will appear in the main venue the following week with a band. I enjoyed his clear diction, and from there, appreciated the lyrics and the music itself. The lyrics mostly conveyed disaffection, cynicism, lost love or loneliness. Enter The Dirty Birdie. Appropriately named, this place is a great spot to knock back some drinks while playing a few holes of putt putt. While on the course you can order from the caddy who walks around. Prices were reasonable given the activity and drinks, nothing too criminal, even for The Domain. The course itself is very fun and unique with hole designs I haven’t seen anywhere else. Once you play through the course you have the option of sitting down at the restaurant portion and hanging out which is what we chose to do for a few more drinks. The restaurant portion is sleek and good looking, good enough to visit on its own. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout and the dynamic of the place is very fun and casual. Parking is good since it’s The Domain so it remains accessible (please remember to drive safely). A downright fun place to go to with friends, a date, or by yourself (we don’t judge). With the setting being so intimate, it’ll never be too loud either, so this is a perfect date night spot or place to end the evening. There’s lots to do while you wait like practice your chipping, putting, corn hole, or grabbing food at the food truck! You can’t beat the price and it’s nice that you can rent the 2 clubs you need and balls are cheap. I took a star off because of the inefficiencies which caused us to actually walk off halfway through. Groups range from 2 to 6 people. At every hole, we were waiting for 3 groups to finish so around ~20 minutes. Nothing kills your vibe more than finishing a hole and then standing around. When it’s your turn, there’s the added pressure of multiple groups behind you waiting for you to finish. This is something I would try again on a weekday. You will never catch me here on a weekend again lol I also HAVE to mention the fries at the fry truck. They were insane - must try.

We came here for a date night and took their glassblowing fundamentals class, and it was such a unique and fun experience.
