We stopped by and ordered one of the cinnamon buns, a pear pop tart and another apricot pastry I’m forgetting the name of but was similar to a fruit danish. The cinnamon bun delivered from the hype and was extremely good. We waited until we got home and put it in the air fry for a couple minutes to help warm it up. The bun was gooey and the icing was super delicious. Alongside this, we also warmed up the pop tart which also had great icing on top of a flaky pastry. I’ll definitely be back for the cinnamon bun!

This also resulted in it being really dry and hard, making it difficult to actually eat. When I was in the queue I did think they looked quite burnt but I took a chance on it. The location is lovely and the coffee from the place next door was excellent, if they’d just turn down the oven or decrease the bake time this would have been a 10/10. Sadly, the croissant wasn’t great. However, the cake and coffee were excellent for the price. The croissant itself rose unevenly, creating huge pockets of air above densely packed dough. It was more hazelnut than chocolate, not too sweet, and had fun textures with the crispy feuilletine base and chocolate toppings. The coffee was a darker roast than I’m used to. The food was just okay. The oysters were sandy, the escargot was made with a weird creamy sauce with pork and croutons in it. Not your typical French escargot. I guess some might like it, but I did not care for it. The beef tartar was so bad we returned it. The quiche was good but I was super hot which makes me think it was reheated. This level of heat can only be obtained with microwave handling. But it tasted good after it had a chance to cool down a little. The drinks were really nice but quite expensive. I got the Philly with the rapini pesto, shaved sharp provolone, Porchetta, and cracklins, and a mocha latte. The latte was very good. Lots of good mocha flavor in there and quality coffee. Didn't eat the sandwich for about an hour and a half when I finally got home so it could have been even better...which is impressive since it was so good even after sitting waiting for me to dig in. TONS of flavor. Really good porchetta, great pesto, nice sharp provolone, and the homemade cracklins put it over the top! The homemade Ciabatta held up well and was hearty enough to be a conduit for the Porchetta without getting soggy or falling apart, but remained soft and chewy. Good choice of roll for this sandwich. Our starter was butternut squash soup with a toasted meringue- this may have been the best soup I’ve ever had!! I literally was thinking of it the entire next day. It was the perfect amount- after all I still had 3 more courses. The gnocchi was in a lobster sauce- you read the part where I said I don’t like seafood. I told Nalini if it wouldn’t be too much to ask to just not put the sauce on it, I would appreciate it. She told the chef who asked if I’d like a truffle butter sauce instead. During our service Nalini was always close by, but never hovering which was nice. Our next course was a short rib shepherd’s pie that melted in your mouth and definitely left me wanting more! This was a 4 course tasting menu. I went into thinking I’ll probably have to stop somewhere on the way home because I’ll still be hungry. That was not the case. We weren’t asked how we wanted it cooked, and it arrived nearly raw (blue, not even medium rare). The server didn’t check in until later, and when we explained the issue, the steak was taken back. A few minutes later, the same steak returned, reheated in the same jus. Unfortunately, it was still very rare, overly gamey from the reheating, and extremely chewy — inedible, really. We couldn’t finish the steak and informed the server again, but despite the clear issue, we were still charged the full $70 for the dish and seemed like she didn’t even cared about this issue.(The photo attached shows the steak after it was “recooked.”) On the positive side, the chicken was enjoyable, and both the escargot dish and the dessert were highlights of the evening. A simply decorated restaurant, with chic French cafe flair. We chose dining here based off their menu online (which needs update as they had items that were apparently from summer menu). We are well into fall. Our table ordered the 3 course meal including amuse bouche, appetizer, entree and dessert which was reasonably priced. Honestly would have paid a bit more for slightly larger serving sizes for the three course menu. I didn’t leave hungry, but not quite full either. I was disappointed by the cheese plate that I had ordered for my appetizer, so much I forgot to take a picture because it was unappealing. There were two slices of Gruyère, some blueberries and raspberries, a small container of honey and a portion of a baguette. Although it’s a small plate, I felt like some more creativity could have been put into it. The pictured stuffing and escargot bone marrow appetizer was cold, which we didn’t quite expect and think would fit the fall menu better if hot. We had other appetizers like moules frite and coquettes (scallop) which were tasty, but again quite small servings. The bœuf bourguignon was tasty, but definitely not the traditional rich sauce I was expecting. The pappardelle pasta was cooked perfectly but the three strands of it under my beef left me wanting more. We had Crème brûle and chocolate mousse for dessert, the crème brûle was more loose than I’m used to. The chocolate mousse was rich and tasty. I do wonder if the meals would have been larger or different if we had not ordered the three course menu. The service was fine, but definitely feel as there was only one waitress for the entire restaurant for the first at least hour to two hours we were there that it did suffer some. No water refills until asked. Potential to upsell items towards dessert like coffee but never asked if we’d be interested so I feel that the restaurant it’s certainly missing out on sales. I’m not sure, especially as it was a bit of a drive that we’d return, but worth a try for some.

Most recently while dogsitting in Manayunk, I bought three different Too Good To Go bags and was blown away by the variety of sweets inside. I also purchased my Dad’s birthday cake too. Initially meeting Meg and having our first consultation with her was such a special experience. I was drawn to Nutmeg based on their designs but the experience, product and service is all 10/10. The cake is amazing, we fell in love with their baking with the super fun tasting. You want your cake to be beautiful, sometimes that sacrifices the taste but not these, perfect flavor and moisture. Their process is streamlined which is very much appreciated.
