Talk about the ultimate field trip! My fifth graders had an amazing, informative and super-engaging experience. Our bus was met by the staff at the Welcome Center. After bathroom and water breaks, they did a circle-up to go over expectations. We separated into small groups and cycled through four stations over the course of the morning, hiking from one station to another. After lunch at the pavilion, we hiked as a group to the Forest Free Play area, which is an awesome pine grove that is set up for tree climbing, fort building and general exploring. The kids had an absolute BLAST! It was so fun! Shoutout to Teachers Sam, Sky, Jason, Declan, Amelia and all of the hardworking folks who are so dedicated to preserving a true Philadelphia Treasure! For pedestrians into the river with green space a public pool and usable facilities you will find this online. I am not sure of the exact thing but I have seen plans that are soon to be constructed. There is plenty of parking at the art museum that is free in lower parking lots behind the art museum. You’ll find great facilities down there which also lead in the opposite direction to the iconic boathouse Row. There are rentals for bicycles and other things as well as retail shops, some light fair eateries, and restroom facilities. You’re also find along this trail the river that runs adjacent to it has rentals for kayaks and other things and there are areas to hold private events at in across the street from the facilities there’s the historical lemon Hill and of course the rocky steps at the art museum.

It is rather large, and there's plenty of variety to see rather than just wooded trails. There is a skinny land bridge that runs along the Delaware River and eventually leads to a wooden bridge that connects you to the rest of the southwestern portion of the park. It ends up being a pretty long walk, but totally worth the time. It is also a bird watcher's paradise. Two types of birds in particular that we saw where the scarlet tanager and an oriole. We thought we could go around the cove and get back to the nature center from there but couldn’t find a path after about 1/3 miles away from the Pennsauken Creek lookout. As soon as I parked, I was attracted by the lively beautiful painting of the hawk on the park building! The campsite is generally rocky, so bring your airmatress with you. There are trees that you can have your hammock on so you could bring that as well. There were no bugs, but there were ticks.
