The Millennium Cross is a prominent monument located at the highest point of Vodno Mountain near Skopje, Macedonia. Standing at 66 meters tall, it was built in 2002 to commemorate 2,000 years of Christianity. Visitors can access the cross via a cable car and enjoy picturesque views of the city below. The area also offers opportunities for outdoor activities such as trekking on mountain trails and exploring historical landmarks like the Skopje Aqueduct.
It was good! Cable car was great, the attendants unlike in some other cities, like in Funchal and Santiago, with cable cars do not rudely ask you to ride with strangers or fill it up that you do not enjoy the ride! (In one of the photos it was filled up because they choose to and it was on the way down)
Charlie C — Google review
Currently closed so only able to ascend to the foot of the cross and not go inside. Area around is in need of some TLC, as there are limited facilities, a good deal of rubbish scattered on the mountainside and just portaloos if you need the toilet. Having said that the view is amazing on all sides and the ride up in the cable car is quick and great value (100MKD per person) so if you have a spare hour or two it's worth a visit.
Idris E — Google review
Impressive structure. Great view. There is food and drnk at the top. The tram ride up is great (windows could have been cleaner).
Roundglendive — Google review
Cool place with nice views. It's missing some toilets and maybe some lovelier cafes/restaurants. Still, definitely worth visiting for the views but also to see the HUGE cross close-up.
Vlad C — Google review
The cablecar is not working, so I chose to walk to the Millennium Cross. I started from near the central bus terminal. Walked to near Hotel Panoramika Design & Spa & I saw other trekkers, so I just followed them. After reaching Mid Vodno, go up the steps next to Zelenika beer garden. A nice but difficult mountain trek. It took me totally 2 hours, & it’s rewarding. Cable car provides nice views but trekking is an experience & challenge.
Connie W — Google review
You will need to use Cable Car to reach the top easily. It costs only 100 MKD (nearly 2 euros) for two way. There are options to hike but might take a lot of time. Be aware of the timing of Cable Car. Runs only every 30 mins. The top requires around 15-20 mins to visit unless you wanna hang out and enjoy the view for longer time.
Amiel S — Google review
Sad some "idiots" build something right next to the cross (comm tower) which kinda destroys the vibe. To get the best view of Skopje, take a right down a path next to the cable car building, which gives a great view of Skopje . But also go behind the cross, where u can find some platforms overlooking a beautiful valley
ForSeTi — Google review
Nice to go up with the cable car and magnificent view! Unfortunately the lift in the cross is broken down, and the place is empty and rundown. You can get something to drink but no more than that.

The Old Bazaar in Skopje is a lively and colorful area, showcasing the Ottoman architectural style with its mosques, markets, shops, and cafes. Visitors can immerse themselves in the city's culture by exploring museums like The National Archeology & Ethnology Museum and The Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art. Walking along the Kaldrma roads, also known as Sampietrini to foreigners, offers a glimpse into traditional Skopje with antique shops and quaint cafes.
The Old Bazaar in Skopje is a must-see destination filled with history, vibrant culture, and lively atmosphere. Wandering through the cobbled streets and maze-like alleys, you’ll discover everything from traditional shops and galleries to cozy coffee houses and excellent restaurants. The architecture blends Ottoman and Byzantine styles, with highlights like the Mustafa Pasha Mosque and historic inns, fully immersing visitors in centuries of heritage. Shopping here is a real experience—local vendors offer handmade crafts, antiques, and souvenirs at very reasonable prices. As you explore, the scent of grilled kebabs, fresh bread, and Turkish coffee fills the air. The area is also known for its friendly service and rich blend of Macedonian and Albanian cultures. The bazaar is not just about commerce; it’s a center for cultural events, nightlife, and people-watching. Whether you visit early in the morning for a quiet stroll or at sunset to see the stone streets glowing under golden lights, you’ll be captivated by the energy and charm of this part of Skopje. It’s well worth dedicating 2-3hours to truly soak it all in.
Hynek — Google review
The Old Bazaar in Skopje Old Town is a place that could be a charming dive into the city’s Ottoman past, but it ends up being an overwhelming and uncomfortable experience. The architecture is undeniably interesting, with its narrow cobblestone streets, old stone buildings, and remnants of a bygone era that give it a certain historical allure. The preserved shops, caravanserais, and traditional facades offer a glimpse into Skopje’s past, and for history buffs, this could be a highlight. However, the atmosphere is marred by issues that make it hard to enjoy. The area is overcrowded with gypsies, some of whom engage in persistent begging that feels intrusive and, at times, intimidating. This detracts significantly from the experience, turning a leisurely walk into a stressful navigation through constant solicitations. Additionally, the strong presence of Muslim culture, including frequent calls to prayer echoing from what feels like countless mosques, can be jarring for visitors not accustomed to it. While this is part of the area’s cultural fabric, the sheer volume and intensity can feel overwhelming, especially when combined with the chaotic crowds. The bazaar’s authenticity is a double-edged sword—it’s vibrant and bustling, but the lack of order and the aggressive street interactions make it feel less like a cultural gem and more like a disorganized mess. The absence of visible efforts to manage the crowds or maintain a welcoming environment for tourists only adds to the frustration. For every moment of architectural charm, there’s an equal dose of discomfort that makes the visit feel like a chore. In short, the Old Bazaar has the potential to be a fascinating stop in Skopje, but the intrusive begging and relentless noise from nearby mosques make it far less appealing. It’s a shame, as the historical elements deserve better presentation.
Hristiyan V — Google review
The Old Bazaar in Skopje was an unforgettable experience that truly captured the charm and spirit of the city. Walking through its narrow cobbled streets, I felt surrounded by history, with Ottoman-era architecture, old inns, and beautiful mosques creating a unique and timeless atmosphere. The blend of cultures and traditions gave the place a vibrant and authentic character. I loved browsing the small shops filled with traditional crafts, jewelry, and souvenirs, and the aroma of local food and coffee made the visit even more delightful. The lively yet welcoming atmosphere made it easy to spend hours exploring. The Old Bazaar was a perfect mix of history, culture, and everyday life—a highlight of my trip to Skopje.
Mohsin R — Google review
historic marketplace that has been a hub of trade and culture since the Ottoman period. Lined with mosques, hammams, and artisan shops, it blends Eastern and Western influences, offering a vibrant glimpse into the city’s multicultural past and living traditions. Enjoy walking and around but be aware - on Sunday only few shops and restaurants are open, most of the shops are closed.
Matej S — Google review
Visiting this place is like taking a trip back in time. It is one of the largest and oldest bazaars in the Balkans, dating back to the 12th century. The narrow cobblestone streets are filled with Ottoman-era architecture. The atmosphere is vibrant, full of craft shops, jewelers, cafes and restaurants. I found it great for a stroll, buying simple souvenirs and soaking up a genuine atmosphere.
Luana B — Google review
A very interesting place, calm and vibrant in the same time. Worth to give it some time, both during daytime and in the evening, not only for shopping or having a beer or a coffee, but for a slow walk, to enjoy its history and spirit.
Pirvu I — Google review
Charming bazar with great food, but watch the weather Visited on 26 October 2025 and spent about 2 hours exploring and trying food. The Old Bazar is a cute, small, historic area full of character, with lots of different things to try — perfect for wandering, taking in the architecture, and sampling local treats. We especially enjoyed some lokma at Lokmades Skopje, which was absolutely delicious! It was a bit rainy during our visit, and some roads had standing water due to poor drainage, so I’d suggest visiting on sunny days for a more comfortable experience. Overall, a must-visit spot for those wanting a taste of traditional Skopje and local flavors. ✅ Recommended.
Enrei P — Google review
Lovely area with an oriental charm and cozy cobbled streets. The atmosphere is warm and picturesque, especially in the evening with all the lights. It does feel quite touristy, though, and not exactly a must-see. Still, worth a short visit if you’re nearby.

Skopje Fortress, a 6th-century hilltop stone fortress, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and river. This historic citadel has witnessed centuries of history and was built during the rule of Justinian of the Byzantine Empire. It has been occupied by various empires including the Bulgarian, Serbian, and Ottomans. The fortress features walking trails around its vast courtyard and ancient walls, providing visitors with stunning vantage points to admire the city below.
An experience to walk through centuries of history, unfortunately the fortress looks abandoned to make its historical importance more interesting. You can walk around inside and take great photos of the city. Free admission.
IAN M — Google review
This could be so much more of a tourist attraction for Skopje, but has been left to fall into disrepair and has no facilities anymore. Having said that the views are still worth the climb up! Even before you enter there is a great view of the stadium from the car park. Inside just head for the wall on the right and follow to the highest point overlooking the city and river. Here you can see all the sights from an elevated perspective and hopefully benefit from a cooling breeze too!
Idris E — Google review
One of the landmarks of the city, not greatly maintained. Offers old walls and amazing views but real pitty there is not even a small exhibition or tables that would tell you a bit more about its history and importance. Nice for a Saturday sunny walk but guess not more. Free entrance.
Matej S — Google review
This fortress, also called Kale, sits atop a hill and offers the best panoramic views of the city and the river. Entry is free, which is great. The walls are of Byzantine origin (6th century) and were expanded by the Ottomans. You can walk along large parts of the walls, which makes for incredible photos. The terrain inside is a bit uneven, so it's good to wear comfortable shoes. It's well worth it for the view and the history.
Luana B — Google review
It is located in a very beautiful spot that makes it visible from the whole city. You can walk on the walls of the fortress. However, inside the fortress you encounter an image of abandonment, the area is quite unkempt, with large grass everywhere and wild trees that have grown in every corner. Several of the wooden structures that exist for pedestrians are rotten, there are some modern buildings inside the fortress that we were informed that they were used as exhibition spaces but are now abandoned and in poor condition. The view of the city is wonderful, panoramic and unobstructed. I recommend a visit to the spot just for the walk on the walls and the wonderful view.
Κωνσταντίνος Π — Google review
well let me just start with the fortress: nice ancient walls are great for an afternoon stroll…the upkeep is quite poor but hey, I still liked my visit. beautiful views of the city and its architecture and attractions. on the other hand, we have the so called security team who let you in at the entrance… p e r v central station. run!

The Mother Theresa Memorial House in Skopje is a modern museum and memorial dedicated to the life and legacy of the renowned Catholic nun, Anjeze Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, also known as Mother Teresa. The building's architecture combines contemporary design with traditional elements and features an eclectic design along with a striking modern chapel.
This place is not something great or splendid like other tourist attraction. But that is the life of mother Theresa. It is small and free. It will remind her life. That’s why this place is so meaningful and symbolic.
Mothusi — Google review
The Mother Teresa Memorial House in Skopje was a deeply moving and inspiring place to visit. From the moment I arrived, I was touched by the peaceful atmosphere and the way the building beautifully honored her life and legacy. The architecture itself was striking, blending modern design with a sense of reverence that made the visit feel very special. Inside, I loved exploring the exhibits that showcased her journey, from her early life in Skopje to her incredible humanitarian work around the world. The personal items, photographs, and stories gave me a profound appreciation of her compassion and dedication. Visiting the Mother Teresa House was not only memorable but also uplifting—a true highlight of my time in Skopje.

A beautiful and inspiring place to visit in Skopje! The Mother Teresa Memorial House is free to enter and filled with information, photos, and exhibits about her life and work. It’s very well organized and peaceful, making it easy to learn about her incredible story. Highly recommended for anyone interested in history, culture, or just looking for a meaningful stop while exploring the city.

The house of Mother Teresa is a must visit place when you come to Skopje! It’s small and free entrance. There’s a souvenir shop at the first floor and exhibition hall at the second floor. At the third floor, a serene church is there! The entire visiting time is around 10-20 min!

Nice presentation of her life story both in Macedonia, Ireland and finally India. Her being awarded the Noble Peace Prize. Of her canonisation to her passing. On the way to the small chapel there are photos showing the many famous people she had met from the Reagans to Queen Elizabeth II.

The Archaeological Museum of the Republic of Macedonia is a grand institution showcasing over 7000 archaeological artifacts from ancient Macedonian times. Housed in a newly constructed building with impressive architecture, it features relics uncovered through excavations across Macedonia. Visitors can marvel at Byzantine treasures, 3D reconstructions of early Macedonian faces, and replicas of an early Christian basilica. The museum offers a fascinating journey through history, including Phoenician royal necropolis exhibits.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Archaeological Museum of the Republic of North Macedonia in Skopje. The museum's extensive collection of over 7,000 artifacts, ranging from the Paleolithic era to the Ottoman period, offered a captivating journey through the region's rich history. We were particularly impressed by the Lapidarium, featuring stone monuments with inscriptions in Greek and Latin, and the well-curated exhibits in the Prehistoric Archaeology and Antiquity departments. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, with the last tickets sold no later than 5:00 PM. Admission for foreign visitors is 150 Macedonian denars per person (approximately €2.50) . The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, enhancing our overall experience. We highly recommend this museum to anyone interested in exploring the historical and cultural heritage of North Macedonia.
Kirk B — Google review
I was rather surprised that such a big building in a prominent location was so restricted inside. Maybe all the other rooms are for staff and conservation? There were staircases to the second floor (in UK speak) that were roped off, maybe there would have been more up there? I read everything in a museum and it took me 50 minutes. Presentation is in bullet points: object, location, era. If somebody entered not knowing the basics of classical to Byzantine to Ottoman, they would still not know, except rough guesses of the centuries. Very little narration, particularly about everyday life and society. A hard to find basement includes waxworks of historical figures, with labels at their feet or even behind them. This floor was uncanny and I had to check I hadn't just walked into storage. Three stars for the actual quality of the artefacts.

Nice, entry it's 400 dinar. Pretty much expensive for this small museum. Eventing it's clean and nice and well readable. Also Accessible The price in the website absolutely not updated. It seems to have been recently renovated.

I think they can maintain here much better than now. Curating is not good. Hard to understand what is the theme of each section. And many sections in the museum are closed without any mention.
Mothusi — Google review
From the outside it's bombastic, but once inside houses a lovely set up little museum. The presentation of the displays is really appealing. Also, massive plus: there are some plaques with braille and pictures of the most important pieces with raised edges, so visually impared people can also experience them. I'm guessing the braille is in Macedonian, but still! More accessability than most places!

I want give 5 stars if I think about collections does this museum present ....is absolutely brilliant 💎 and staff in ticket office is friendly and helpful with any problem / But why you have two different prices for tickets to entrance ( 200 mkd for Macedonians and 400mkd for tourists ) .... how is possible take benefits from EU for rebuilds historical sites in Macedonia ( this money is from taxes people who living in EU ) ....but after from this people want more money for ticket / I see this practice in countries out of Europe

Mustafa Paša Mosque, situated on a hillside overlooking Skopje's Old Bazaar, is a well-preserved 15th-century mosque with stunning Islamic patterns and decorations reminiscent of those found in Turkey. The mosque features a peaceful rose garden and offers breathtaking views of the old town. Visitors can explore the interior when there are no religious activities, leaving their shoes at the entrance as per tradition.
Visiting the Mustafa Pasha Mosque in Skopje was a peaceful and inspiring experience. The moment I entered the courtyard, I was struck by the beauty of its Ottoman architecture and the calm atmosphere that surrounded the mosque. Its elegant dome, slender minaret, and intricate details made it one of the most stunning landmarks I saw in the city. Inside, the mosque was serene and beautifully decorated, with intricate patterns and a sense of history that added to its charm. The well-kept gardens around it offered a quiet place to pause and reflect, away from the busy city. The Mustafa Pasha Mosque was both spiritually uplifting and historically fascinating—a true gem of Skopje.
Mohsin R — Google review
Had a chance doing our prayer in this beautiful old mosque. The ablution is outside. The mosque is not that big. It's built in 1492 during ottoman empire. The mosque is largely intact from its original state and no additions have been made. It has 2 floors with narrow stairs where the second floor is for women prayer hall. However, if no crowd, the women can pray at 1st floor at the women prayer hall area.

Nestled in the heart of Macedonia, the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle for Independence stands as a grand testament to the nation's quest for sovereignty. Officially inaugurated on September 8, 2011, this expansive museum spans over 6,400 square meters and is dedicated to chronicling the rich history of Macedonia's fight against Ottoman rule and its eventual independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.
Absolutely amazing museum! It’s huge, with three well-organized floors that follow a clear chronological timeline. The wax figures and artwork are incredibly detailed, and most of the info is translated into English, which was very helpful. The stained glass room at the end is stunning—definitely the highlight. Tickets were affordable and also do student discount

This is a great place to understand part of the history of the great Macedonia. The ticket is around 5 or 8 euros. There's access to bathrooms. It's amazing to see the realistic of the wax figures, the flags, the attires, etc. There are original parts of the wars as well (war cars, cameras, helmets, paper letters, Utensils, maps and so on). It's definitely a place to visit.

At the entrance, they mentioned a student discount in the summer of 2025, the student ticket was around 120 denars. If you’re in the area and looking for a place to explore, I highly recommend it.

I don’t often write reviews, but I have to make sense of one of the strangest museum experiences I’ve ever had. Starting with some history, this museum was built as part of the controversial 2014 project, which many Macedonians described to me as a nationalist project by a conservative government seeking to put their parties mark on the city after their rejection from NATO due to the naming dispute with Greece. Many reviews describe this place as a Madame Tussaud’s of Macedonian revolutionaries, that is true and lends the place an eerie feeling, as many of the figures are only denoted with very brief plaques that seem to assume the visitor already has a decent knowledge of Macedonian history. The only actual antiques to be found are an extensive and very interesting collection of various guns, weapons, and artillery, along with many historical documents that are often not translated into English. Otherwise, the huge halls covered with massive mythologizing paintings feel reminiscent of a certain Soviet bravado, made more curious by the fact that nearly every painting I could find with a date was created in 2012. Generally the dates of the paintings are not clearly displayed, which feels like a very purposeful emission. I don’t know how to quantify this experience in a number of stars but overall I would say it is a place worth visiting not necessarily for the history but for watching an exercise in a nation-building “antiquisation”. If you’re only here for a couple days, you can skip it.

This is not a museum, but a truly unique experience. The organizer of this place really deserves a huge thank you because they have conveyed the history of Macedonia in a very striking and memorable way. It is one of the must-see places when visiting Skopje.

Really informative museum about the struggles of the Macedonian people in their fight to establish their country and protect their culture and language. I recommend everyone visiting Macedonia visit this museum to understand this important history. The museum is well set up and easy to follow around. Do give yourself at the least 2 hours.

The Stone Bridge, a historic 15th-century arched bridge, is an iconic symbol of the capital city. Spanning the Vardar River, it connects the old town and new town and is adorned with traditional craft vendors. At night, colorful lights illuminate the bridge, creating a romantic ambiance. From the bridge, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the river and surrounding mountains. Nearby attractions include the Holocaust Memorial Centre and Museum of Macedonian Struggle for Independence.
The Macedonian Government has done a lot to revitalize the down town into a real show place for the nation. The history that you are presented with thru the statues and the monument is tremendous. One such is the Stone Bridge. We are glad we walked the city and it was easy with finding a flat in the city center. We enjoyed absorbing the culture and the history of this landmark city and culture! The Stone Bridge in Skopje, North Macedonia, is one of the city's most iconic landmarks, spanning the Vardar River and connecting the old bazaar with the modern city center. Built during the 15th century under the rule of Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II the Conqueror, the bridge is believed to rest on Roman foundations, symbolizing the continuity of Skopje’s urban history. Constructed primarily from solid stone blocks, the bridge features 12 semicircular arches and has served as a key crossing point and a stage for significant historical events, including public executions during the Ottoman era. Despite damage from earthquakes and wars, the Stone Bridge has endured and remains a powerful emblem of Skopje’s cultural heritage and resilience.
Kirk B — Google review
The stone bridge on the river Vardar connects Macedonia Square on the right bank and the Old Skopje Bazaar on the left bank of the river. There are two different opinions about its existence. According to the first, it was built in the 6th century, shortly after the catastrophic earthquake in 518, during the reign of Emperor Justinian I. Others believe that the bridge was built in the second half of the fifteenth century, between 1451 and 1469, the time when the Ottoman empire was ruled by the Sultan Mehmed II the Conqueror. The bridge is built of travertine stone blocks bound with iron hooks and fastened with cast lead and crushed stone and mortar. In its original appearance it contained 13 semicircular arches, it had a length of 213.85 m (329 steps) and a width of 6.33 m. Today, the bridge is accessible only for pedestrians, but historically it was also used for traffic. It was named "Stone Bridge" because it was built using crushed stone. In addition, the bridge is historically also known as the Dushan Bridge, in honor of the Serbian king Dusan. Stone Bridge is considered a symbol of the city of Skopje. Stone Bridge is presented as an integral element on the coat of arms of the city. Alhamdulillah for the opportunity to have arrived here.
Rahmah R — Google review
The Stone Bridge in Skopje, often hailed as the city’s iconic landmark, is a disappointing and frustrating experience that fails to live up to its historical significance. Spanning the Vardar River and connecting Macedonia Square to the Old Bazaar, this 15th-century Ottoman structure is undeniably striking with its 13 arches and solid stonework. However, any appreciation for its architecture is quickly overshadowed by the appalling conditions surrounding it. The bridge is plagued by an overwhelming number of insects, to the point where crossing feels like a battle. Visitors practically need to cover their faces entirely to avoid being swarmed, making what should be a leisurely stroll a deeply uncomfortable ordeal. The sheer volume of bugs is not only irritating but also raises questions about the lack of basic maintenance or pest control in such a central location. Worse still is the aggressive begging that dominates the experience. Groups of individuals, often described as gypsies, don’t just ask for money—they practically extort it, creating an intimidating atmosphere that makes crossing the bridge feel unsafe and stressful. Their persistence is relentless, and it’s shocking that such behavior is allowed to persist in Skopje’s most prominent public space. The apparent absence of police or municipal intervention is nothing short of absurd, reflecting a broader neglect of public order in the city. It’s as if the authorities have completely abandoned any effort to maintain a welcoming environment for visitors and locals alike. While the bridge’s historical and architectural value could make it a highlight of Skopje, the reality is a chaotic mess. The combination of swarming insects and aggressive begging, coupled with the authorities’ inaction, turns this landmark into a frustrating symbol of the city’s dysfunction. Visiting the Stone Bridge feels like navigating a gauntlet rather than enjoying a historic site.

This bridge is the city's most iconic symbol, connecting Macedonia Square to the Old Bazaar over the river. Its original construction dates back to the 15th century, during the time of Sultan Mehmed II. With its 13 stone arches, it has withstood wars and natural disasters. It is a pedestrian-only thoroughfare and offers fantastic views of the new buildings and other bridges along the river. It's impossible to visit the city and not cross it several times.

I asked for the club Sandwich. As on the publicity it looks amazing. But in real life. See the photos yourself and judge. Waited almost 45 min to get the food, which arrived cold. Manager too afraid to face us. First he offered a ball of ice cream we said no. Then he said he would remove the dish completely. 10mins past and he said its not possible to remove anything. So he charged us full price on everything. We were told that the publicity sign photos outside are just for advertising purposes. This is false advertising and a tourist trap. I am Diabetic and need to eat food on time.

Nestled within the historic walls of a former railway station, the Museum of the City of Skopje is a captivating destination that chronicles the vibrant history and resilience of this remarkable city. This cultural gem not only showcases exhibitions detailing Skopje's evolution from its earliest settlements around 3000 BC to modern times but also serves as a poignant reminder of its tumultuous past, particularly the devastating earthquake in 1963.
This is a cool little museum about the City of Skopje. While at first it appears that it may concentrate largely on the devastating earthquake of 1963, it does delve into the periods BC and AD, before brief texts about the history of Skopje during the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes/Yugoslavia, as well as The Balkan Wars, WWI and II, as well the period of Socialism under Tito. All texts are in Macedonian as well as English, as well as some in Albanian and French. The exhibits are spread across two floors, with the Ancient period on -1, and the modern era on Floor 0. Entrance is completely free. There is a ~14 video (in Macedonian) that shows historical videos from around the time of the earthquake and is worth a watch. The museum will likely take around 2 hours max if reading and viewing all texts and exhibits, and even less if you are just taking a look. The staff are friendly and are there to answer any questions you may have.

Interesting place for a wander. Went to learn about the earthquake, but much more there. A few amazing Neolithic pieces, some traditional costumes frescos copies. A little of everything.

Really liked this museum. Small exhibitions but good for getting in touch with the city. Not overcrowded. Free entrance. Located in the old railway building that was half destroyed by the 1963 earthquake.
Matej S — Google review
The museum definitely feels lackluster, but the admission is free and there's English explanation for most exhibits, which makes up for it. The building itself is a former railway station that was partly destroyed during Skopje's 1963 earthquake. I loved that they left the partly destroyed part as it is, showing the destruction of the earthquake as it is. Which matches with the main theme of the museum, showcasing the history of Skopje before and after the earthquake. The museum also has another section showing some archeological items, but doesn't provide much explanations. Most of the building is still under renovation so only a small part of it is accessible.

There is 9.12 Saturday. Museum should be open but it isn't. None information on site about that. There is only a notice that museum is close at 3 pm, which is also against mormal time schedule and information here.

A free museum dedicated to Skopje’s history. Despite being free, it is far more interesting than the paid museums in the city, with the exception of the one dedicated to Macedonian Independence. A must visit if you are in the city, as the building itself which was damaged during the earthquake and the surrounding area too deserves a visit!

The Bridge of Art, located near the Stone Bridge in Skopje, is a new pedestrian bridge that celebrates Macedonian artists and musicians. This iconic landmark seamlessly connects the old and new parts of the city and offers a picturesque walk with great photo opportunities. Adorned with 29 larger-than-life bronze sculptures, it pays homage to prominent figures from Macedonian history, including renowned artists like Lazar Lichenoski and Alexander Shopov.

Crossing this pedestrian bridge is like walking through an open-air art gallery. It is entirely dedicated to honoring the national culture, lined with dozens of bronze statues depicting the country's important artists, musicians, writers, and painters. Besides the statues, the bridge itself has a beautiful design, with classic, ornate lampposts that make for a very pleasant stroll, especially at dusk as the lights turn on over the river.

Impressive bridge over the river Vardar. The Bridge of Art is fairly new, and one of the best to cross the river Vardar from east to west. You will enjoy the bridge if you like art and sculpture as there are a number of bronze statues which were sculpted to commemorate noted artists and musicians from Macedonian history such as Lazar Lichenoski and Alexander Shopov. Of the many bridges in the area the Bridge of Art is worth the walk across and see the great artists. Highly recommend.

This certainly is a city which loves statues and this bridge definitely highlights that! It’s seriously impressive though and really beautiful, being in my mind the best point to cross the river at. Surrounded by other grand buildings its worth taking a walk to and admire and a true landmark in the city.

The Art Bridge is not as famous as its nearest neighbor, but it tries just as hard to impress. Several statues adorn the footpath, but their focus is not on old history. Less people come to visit this bridge, but it's worth the extra steps that you will take to get here.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Skopje, established in 1964, stands as a symbol of solidarity among artists and art institutions worldwide. Following the 1963 earthquake, a valuable collection featuring works by renowned artists like Picasso and Christo was assembled to aid in the city's reconstruction. The museum's permanent exhibition titled 'Solidarity, an incomplete project?' reflects this history.
Great gallery with an extensive collection of works from the former non-aligned movement countries. When I visited in December 2024 the gallery had heaps of works on both levels. Also affords great views of Skopje. If you're into modern art make sure you visit while in Skopje.

The only problem is, I took the help of Google Maps, I walked through somewhere nowhere, I found nothing, turned back and went around someplace, somehow I find the building. There is no sign of the museum. Inside of it is great, it has such a wonderful view. There are different exhibitions going on at the same time. It was nice.
Feyza K — Google review
Checked online that museum was open. Then it wasn't, but the lady let us in because she acknowledged the website said it was. The ground floor was dedicated to architectural drawings, and the upper floor was being prepared for another exhibition, so the highlight of our visit was a chewed pencil on a white plinth. Go to the national gallery instead, much more to see and in a great building (although sadly smelled strongly of cigarettes throughout).

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje is situated on a hill near the city’s medieval fortress, offering panoramic views of Skopje from all directions—including the east, west, and the south-facing Vodno Mountain. This modernist landmark was built following the 1963 earthquake as part of the city’s architectural revival and stands today as a symbol of Skopje’s modern identity. Designed by prominent architects, the museum features a clean, elegant design, abundant natural light from both its sides and rooftop, and a thoughtful integration with the surrounding landscape. The museum regularly hosts a range of cultural events, from contemporary art exhibitions to musical and community gatherings. Most recently, it was the venue for the charter celebration of the newest Rotary Club in the city—Rotary Club Skopje Kamen Most.

Interesting architecture with a very quiet atmosphere. Great place to visit with interesting artworks exhibitions and film. Costs about 2 euros to see. The atmosphere is great and you might find yourself sitting down lost in thought. I think it was gifted by the Polish government from what I read. But overall 10/10 and a great place to be when visiting Skopje.

Very strange experience. Google Maps showed it as an abandoned walkway, but when we got there, I had to buy a ticket even though there was basically nothing to see. We even had to ask to be let outside to view the only exhibition/installation they had. Overall, very random — and even the bathrooms didn’t have toilet paper.

The Museum of Macedonia, located in the Old Bazaar, is a national institution showcasing the archaeological, ethnological, and historical heritage of Macedonia. Housed in a newly built complex, it offers diverse exhibitions from anthropology, archaeology, ethnology, history of arts, and conservation departments. With approximately 66,000 items on display spanning from the Neolithic Age to the Byzantine and Turkish Periods, visitors can explore the rich and diverse history of Macedonia.
Best museum in the city! If you don’t know much about the history just like me, this museum is the best! Not so long that won’t bore you but you’ll be learning the history at the same time. There three parts: history, archaeology and traditional. And staff was so friendly and helpful. If you are a student, don’t forget to mention you can get a discount.

The museum is from a different era and the building has been indifferently maintained over the years - it’s a glorious throwback to Yugoslav days. The Ethnographic section is the best with a good array of bridal garments. A good proportion of the exhibits have English explanations. Staff were great. Don’t put it top of your list in Skopje, but if you’ve a spare hour, this is worth experiencing.

The museum is situated in an interesting building, which seems to be left a bit abandoned. The exhibition is split into 2 parts... both of which are in different halls within the same complex. The first part is a nice displayed related to the history of Macedonia; but too much reading looses interest.... The second half of the exhibition is a large collection of cultural related artefacts. Unfortunately this is displayed in a very old fashioned style with small captions. The place has potential but needs investment. Overall it was interesting to understand Macedonian culture & history. I would recommend to visit this place while wondering around the old bazaar.

The Skopje Aqueduct is a remarkable ancient structure located in the village of Vizbegovo, just 2 kilometers northwest of Skopje. It is one of the largest and best-preserved aqueducts in Macedonia, with scenic arches that are believed to date back to Roman times. The exact age of the aqueduct remains uncertain, as it could have been constructed during the Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, or Ottoman Empire.
Really awesome experience for the more adventurous traveler. Not a typical tourist attraction. There was no one in sight. The aqueducts stand alone in a field and cross a river. Most tourists would probably find the site boring, but it's a unique local experience. Getting there requires either walking, driving, or taking a taxi. Most travelers would find the walk uncomfortable, both in distance and from a security perspective, as you are eventually isolated. I would not recommend doing it alone for most people. You pass through a very small neighborhood and reach the site. Unfortunately, there is litter everywhere. However, litter is a bit of a cultural trend here, so it's not particularly surprising. The site is unmanaged and unkept. This is not a tourist attraction, but it is an historic relic and an experience of its own. If this is your sort of thing, as it is mine, you'll love it!
Tom G — Google review
Interesting aquaduct of which you unfortunately won’t hear from almost anyone. The place is falling apart and is surrounded by trash and waste. You can drive up to it with a car, saddest part is that they don’t value this unique construction and don’t really know if it was built during Roman, Byzantine or Ottoman era. Worth the visit to this hidden gem, hopefully the city will wake up and try to preserve and protect it so it’s not covered by graffiti and human waste
Viktor S — Google review
It is an amazing piece of Roman architecture that still stands the test of time and nature. It is located in the middle of a landfill, and the flies can get annoying. If you are coming from the city center, you have to take two buses and then walk in the middle of the landfill to get there. If you like ancient and Roman ruins, it is definitely worth seeing.
Jason P — Google review
It’s a quite deserted & neglected, but a great piece of architecture. The Aqueduct is sturdy & strong & quite long, it’s said to be from the Roman era, parts of it is under maintenance. To get there by public bus, take #9 or #19 from the centre, get off near to the Point Retail park shopping centre, then walk 25 minutes, partly on dirt road.
Connie W — Google review
I was surprised by how majestic and stable it was. The whole building seems more like in bizantine style, which make it even more unique. Besides fantastic views the area around it is a literal garbage dump for locals. It stinks out there.
Kamil — Google review
This would be a great place to visit but it is horribly neglected. There are heaps of garbage. There are some shacks built leaning into the aqueduct. Not only does it not look nice, it doesn't feel safe either. The road there is also in a very poor state. It's unpaved and very narrow. Such a shame.
Jordan P — Google review
Very old, lots of history, stunning views, dirt road, secluded, and relaxing. There isn’t much to see, but what’s left of the 1000 year old aqueduct is stunning. Knowing the age and history of the aqueduct, it’s truly remarkable the structure is still standing. Getting there is a little bit of an adventure. It’s possible to walk, but it’s a very long walk. From city center, 60 - 90 mins. Cost for a taxi is 500 - 800 Den “$10 - $15 US”. I would definitely suggest a visit to the Skopje Aqueduct.
Phillip W — Google review
Very fascinating! Part of it has been reconstructed, but most is untouched. It's nice to see how it used to be and what is left. It's a short drive from the center and even our taxi driver had never visited it but if you like this sort of things, I completely recommend.

Nestled in the stunning Matka Canyon, Vrelo Cave stands out as a remarkable natural wonder and is the only cave open to visitors among many explored and unexplored ones in the area. Recognized as one of the top 77 natural sites globally by the New7Wonders of Nature project, this cave boasts an impressive underwater depth that has been recorded at around 280 meters, making it potentially one of Europe’s deepest underwater caves.
A small but spectacular cave system that is accessible only by taking the boat trip along the canyon. Well worth the 500MKD (£7) for the trip, but note that it is a steep climb from the dock to the cave entrance and then back down inside to water level. The path is however solid with good handrails and the cave well lit. Infact it's the atmospheric lighting that really brings out the magic of the cave with the reflection in the water and shadows from the rock formation making it perhaps more interesting than it would otherwise be. The boat waits for about 20 minutes, which is plenty of time to see the cave and takes about 20 minutes each way, so allow an hour in total for the trip.
Idris E — Google review
Overrated. Especially considering the price (500 Denar), the cave is not really that special. The boat tour to the cave was more exciting than the cave :/ The pictures at the boat tours are photoshopped to look better and like you are driving through the cave. You do not. You stop and walk through the cave (2 minutes) and you have seen everything.
Pascal H — Google review
Oh wow! Visiting Cave Vrelo near Skopje was an absolutely fascinating experience and one of the most unique parts of my trip. The boat ride across Matka Canyon to reach the cave was breathtaking, with stunning views of the cliffs and crystal-clear waters setting the scene for adventure. Inside the cave, I was amazed by the dramatic stalactites and stalagmites, as well as the mysterious underground lake. The atmosphere felt otherworldly, and learning that it is believed to be one of the deepest underwater caves in the world made it even more exciting. Cave Vrelo was both beautiful and awe-inspiring—a true natural wonder and a highlight of my visit to Macedonia.
Mohsin R — Google review
The cave is nice. the lights effects ads to the beauty of the shapes. its small and the visit short than back to the boat. Riding with the boat to the cave the visit in it and back takes one hour and cost 500 macedonian money.
Idan G — Google review
You can only enter this cave by taking boat ride from the canyon. Very nice cave. Its a little cold when you get in so bring a light jacket. You will need to climb some steps so wear comfortable shoes and clothing. The cave is a bit wet and dark so be really careful and exercise caution when walking.
K J — Google review
Boat trip to the cave is nice, but the cave is a prime example of how not to care about nature wonders. You can go inside for about 20-30m, some of the stalagmites are already destroyed by ppl and since the lights are shining in the cave nonstop (normally the lights in caves are on only for short periods of time) life is already blooming in the cave, some walls are green and little signs of life are showing around because of inadequate human intervention.
Ladislav Z — Google review
Even though you can't walk a lot through the cave as it is mostly underwater, definitely it is worth to visit Vrelo cave which is considered to be one of the deepest underwater caves in Europe and the world. It has not been fully explored, but its estimated depth is 240 meters. Round trip with a boat from the restaurant in Canyon Matka to the cave is 500 MKD.
Flet — Google review
Definitely worth the visit. The accessable part isn't that big as most of the cave is under the water, but it's beautiful. You can take a boat trip here from the restaurant for a 500mkd. The trip takes about a hour in total with both ways and a visit of the cave.

Nestled beneath the watchful gaze of the fortress's tallest turret, Skopje's Old Bazaar is a captivating maze of cobblestone streets lined with an array of shops, market stalls, and charming cafes. As one of the oldest marketplaces in the Balkans, it holds a rich history and was once the second-largest bazaar in the Ottoman Empire after Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar. This vibrant area offers visitors a unique glimpse into Skopje's cultural heritage and bustling trade life.
Many cities in this area have an ole bazaar, but this one is larger than most with many shops and cafes. It made for a beautiful walk in Skopje!

The Macedonian Holocaust Museum, established in 2011, is a contemporary building dedicated to honoring the Jewish Macedonian people. It stands alongside other notable attractions such as the Archaeological Museum of Macedonia and the Museum of Macedonian Struggle. Visitors can also explore Lake Ohrid, a UNESCO Heritage Site known for its stunning natural beauty and affordable dining options.
I absolutely did not expect that visiting this museum would be such an exciting adventure. The love of detail, the history and the cloistered atmosphere. I recommend a visit.

I read and watched every display. Very moving and well done. If you aren’t going to take the time to appreciate the heritage and struggle of the Jewish people in Macedonia, don’t waste your money. However; if you have an afternoon to spend and the curiosity, you will be rewarded.

I was surprised to find out that Skopje has a Holocaust memorial center. It is a well organized museum but was expecting more information about the Holocaust in North Macedonia and other former Yugoslav territories after Germany occupied Yugoslavia in 1941 and less general information about Holocaust and Jewish community.

Certainly one of the best holocaust museum I have been to. Comprehensive history and immersive experience. Great to reflect on this sad part of history in Skopje
Michael C — Google review
There were 3, 300 Jewish Northern Macedonians before the second world war. Afterward there were 300, most being sent to Treblinka and murdered. This Holocaust museum provides videos and documentary about the experience. There are also recollections of individual partisans who fought during World War II and recreations of cattle cars in which people were shipped to concentration camps. This museum also provides a history of Jewish peoples in Northern Macedonia through Time. Highly recommended! No photos.

Nice exhibition of the history of the Hebrew people. The section dedicated to the Holocaust is touching and documents the horror and the misary suffered by Jewish during the period

The National Gallery of the Republic of North Macedonia Daut Pasha Hammam is a unique cultural institution located in Skopje. Housed within a historic 15th-century Turkish bathhouse, the gallery offers an unexpected setting for its diverse collection of modern and traditional art. The building itself, with its original features like domed roofs and intricate architecture, adds to the atmospheric experience.
Definitely a must see while in Skopje. The entrance fee was nominal like $2, and the art was very nice. A plus is the beauty of the building as this was previously a Turkish bath house. The inside reflects the beauty of this history.
01geek — Google review
Don't be expecting the Nat Gal, London experience. Still, this is a nice and small museum dedicated to Macedonian artists. The building that houses this collection is superb!
Thomas T — Google review
I recently visited the museum, but unfortunately, my experience was unpleasant due to the behavior of one of the staff members at the entrance. When I arrived, he told me that visiting hours were almost over and refused to let me in. What disturbed me most was that he kept touching me while speaking, even though I clearly asked him not to. His tone was rude and aggressive, which made me feel disrespected and unsafe. I truly hope the museum management takes this matter seriously to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all visitors.
Bero — Google review
Again, with tempered expectations, you should get your 100 MKD worth of interesting art pieces in a rather well organized and interestingly renovated old Ottoman building. Neither the place nor the art pieces are mind blowing, but it is very well air conditioned and cheap to enter. Reason on its own to visit it!
Mustafa K — Google review
I know art is subjective but I guess I didn’t enjoy the current installation at the gallery. The gallery is small, hot, smells funky and I think is being renovated. Took me only 5-10 minutes to walk through and read all the info. Maybe I’m here at the wrong time but I don’t understand the hype. Couldn’t really appreciate how it’s a renovated hammam either, it just looks like they’ve put white plaster over everything. I think I felt really intrigued of part of the installations with the crocodiles but felt the meaning didn’t really click with me once I read the information. The artist has skill for sure but just felt the gallery atmosphere and flow of the rooms was a let down.
Jody W — Google review
Although it doesn't seem too large from the outside, this museum is filled with a diverse collection of modern art pieces ranging from the 18th to 20th centuries. For 100 MKD, you can spend about an hour enjoying the paintings, murals, and sculptures created by many Macedonian artists.. The inside is well cared for and clean as well.
Jamie — Google review
The building of the Daut Pasha Hamam, which is part of the National Gallery of Macedonia, is the most interesting part of the visit. It's well worth discovering. There are parts that compare how the ceiling used to be to what it has become. The architect in charge of renovating this building did a great job. If only the exhibits were half as interesting as the renovation. I hope that the exhibited collection will improve with time.

Macedonian Orthodox Church St. Demetrius, located at Karpos's Rebellion Square, is a cathedral-style church dedicated to St. Demetrius, the Orthodox Saint and Military Martyr. The present church was built on the foundation of a 16th-century church and underwent renovations in the late 19th century. Throughout the 18th century, it served as the official seat of the Skopje Eparchy (Diocese).
A small, intimate church—one of the oldest in Skopje. You can pray inside, surrounded by the scent of burning candles. Hopefully, you won’t be warned with a “no talk, no photo” sign by a local who sees you as just a curious tourist with a backpack.

The Macedonian Opera and Ballet is a stunning architectural marvel that draws inspiration from Finnish organic design, seamlessly blending with the natural landscape of mountains and topography. Spanning an impressive 172,200 square feet, this venue features two theaters, including a larger one designed for optimal viewing experiences with its unique sky-blue seating arrangement. The exterior showcases dramatic geometric planes that slope towards the Vardar River, creating a striking visual impact as visitors approach via descending stairs that reflect intricate fractal patterns.
We attended a performance at this wonderfully comfortable opera house on the recommendation of our free walking tour guide. (Alexandra). We loved the modern feel of the interior, we also loved the layout of the seating, doesn't matter where you sit, you seem to get a good view, the seats were so comfortable. the whole lovely vibe of the place, just added to the experience of the excellent performance of cavilieri rusticana.

It was a great privilege to attend yesterday's stunningly beautiful Italian-Macedonian co-production of "Rigoletto"! Brilliant set design and direction, the magnificent Leon Kim, a perfect rendition of the classics, note for note, moment for moment. A true feast for the senses! (P.S.: And the concert hall is new modern and comfortable!)

I have always had amazing experiences and great entertainment at the Macedonian Opera and Ballet. While it is not the biggest theater or the fanciest, it resembles a cinema hall on the inside, but it's comfortable.

The Macedonian Opera and Ballet brings the most popular ballets and operas during the year. Buying tickets online is possible if you want to secure your tickets on time. The programme is inspiring and varied, presenting famous classics like "Swan Lake", "Nutcracker", "Aida", "Carmen", etc., and includes new and contemporary works through the year. The Gala Ballet and May Opera Nights are splendid.

Quite an interesting shape of the structure inside with a lot of corners, creating a sharp feeling. The seats on the gallery are tilting - which I found great and contemporary. The whole building needs love, from the outside to inside, quite dirty outside and a humidity problem at places inside. My partner said Norma was fantastic, I couldn't watch the whole thing and went outside 📛🤩😂
Manos F — Google review
After looking forward to the performance of Nabucco this evening, we ended up leaving after the first Act. This was nothing whatsoever to do with the performance. It was all down to a very poorly run opera venue where many members of the audience were allowed to get out their mobile phones during the performance, showing absolutely no manners or consideration. I have been to many Operas across Europe and there is always an expected etiquette that is followed of no mobile phones during a performance. Not here. Usually there is an announcement to turn mobile phones off but there wasn't one made at this venue. We complained to the management and asked for our money back but they declined. They said they usually make a mobile phone announcement but that members of the audience ignore it. I have never seen that before at an opera and it's the responsibility of the opera venue to make sure the audience have a good experience without inconsiderate people ruining it for others as was the case here.

The Murat Paša mosque in Turkey is highly recommended for its welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. It is a peaceful place located in the Old Bazaar, offering a serene and cool environment. The mosque's non-Muslim friendly approach is evident as visitors are warmly welcomed inside, where friendly people greet them with smiles. They are also encouraged to stay and assist during the evening prayer. Additionally, the presence of a fountain in front adds to the beauty of this remarkable mosque.
Comfortable place to do praying in the heart of the old town of Skopje.

The Murat-Pasha Mosque is located in the very center of the Old Bazaar in Skopje. According to the inscription on the marble plaque above the entrance door in the Murat-Pasha mosque, it is explained in Arabic that it was built around 1802 and 1803, after its original structure was burnt in a fire in 1689. There is a drinkable water fountain in front of the mosque, that adds to the beauty of this remarkable mosque. We didn’t enter the mosque since it was not prayer time yet, but we were fascinated by its simple yet beautiful exterior. Also being located right in the centre of the Old Bazaar of Skopje, it serves as a continuous prayer house for the locals and tourists. Good experience to be here.

The Square Macedonia is a public square in the city of Skopje, capital of Macedonia. It is one of the most popular meeting points for its citizens and has been designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The square's design features a series of waterfalls that flow into a large basin, creating an idyllic setting for gatherings and events.
Macedonia Square is the main square of the capital city of Macedonia, Skopje. It is located at the heart of the city and it is the biggest one in the country. What makes this place so special and different from all other is its beautiful architecture and design. There are many statues and monuments situated all over the square so you can get more familiar with the rich history of Macedonia. The most noticeable item here is the outstanding fountain above which the statue of the ancient warrior king Alexander the Great is placed. The popular Macedonia Square is an ideal place for spending excellent time with family or friends as there are many cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy the splendid taste of traditional Macedonian food. Also, the square is situated near many stores so you can have unforgettable shopping experience as well. It was slightly raining when we arrived here, however we still had a great time, taking photos and enjoying the fresh air. Grateful to have arrived here.

Macedonia Square is the main square of Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia. It is located in the central part of the city, and crosses the Vardar River. The square has several structures, the most prominent is the statue of Alexander the Great. Many structures in the square are relatively new, but the stone bridge connecting the new and old city is from 15th century. There is a nice walking path along the river and many souvenir stores in the Old part of the city. We visited in the morning, so the square was almost empty. Unfortunately the area is not maintained well, some part is quite dirty but it's worth visiting.

I had a wonderful stay at the Marriott Hotel Skopje. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, making the experience even more enjoyable. A special mention goes to Sloboden, a waiter at the restaurant during breakfast—his kindness, attentiveness, and warm attitude truly stood out and made mornings a pleasure. Highly recommend this hotel for both comfort and outstanding service!

The hotel is in a very central location in Skopje, which is a big plus. However, we experienced several issues that do not meet the standards of a chain hotel: the parking entrance card system was out of order, there was no welcome drink or amenity, and the room was generally dusty — the windows were dirty, towels were grayish instead of bright white, and some essentials were missing. While the reception team was polite and helpful, the same cannot be said for part of the breakfast staff. The hotel has strong potential but needs major improvements in cleanliness and service quality.

Orthodox church
Church of the Holy Savior, located in the Madzari neighborhood of Skopje, is a must-see highlight. The church features an incredible iconostas created by two Macedonian brothers and another artist from a neighboring village in the 1820s. This breathtaking masterpiece, measuring 10 meters by 7 meters and taking five years to carve, is truly awe-inspiring.
Wonderfully Church in Madzari neighborhood, i do definitely recommend it for visit.

Public university
Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (UKIM) is located in a city with a rich history, although much of it was lost due to a devastating earthquake in 1963. The university's architecture is an excellent example of brutalist design, with four large buildings surrounding a spacious public square. The interior spaces are captivating, illuminated by natural light from the roof.
Oldest and highest ranking and valued university in Macedonia. The working academics in the university are all top tier. The age of the building can be seen though. There have been a lot of donations and renovations but there is still so much work to do. It’s only been a few years since they removed the communist graffiti from the walls. The roof used to leak a lot when it rained. Hope it’s been fixed and renovated. It needs an uplift, an upgrade. Especially with the IT hardware. I could go on and on but I’ll end it here with this. It is an experience that everyone should try and I promise you’ll have endless stories and memories left with you. For many it’s is defining moment in life.

Sometimes I revisit my old materials and essays, and from today’s perspective, I realize that my professors never actually checked or corrected my work. This means I essentially learned everything on my own. It just goes to show—you can educate yourself without needing to enroll in all that institutional nonsense.
Elena S — Google review
This is the quirkiest university campus I visited, also the hardest one to photograph as well. Despite not providing all that much shadow in summer heat, trees all around the campus make sure you can never get any decent photos, and if they do, then it is some post or a random car that gets in the way. Alas that seems to be the case all around Skopje. In any case, enthusiasts of Brutalism would do well to visit it.
Mustafa K — Google review
Excellent example of surviving brutalist architecture. Spent a long time wandering around the various areas of the exterior of the University. The 'American Corner', which consisted of a small library of up-to-date books donated by the U.S, was particularly interesting. The library also had very friendly staff who kindly printed off a bus ticket for me.

Oldest and highest ranking state university in the country.
Dragan G — Google review
I read here most rank the university as the oldest and highest ranked in the state. It is true that it is the oldest and highest ranked, but I would not say that this is a quality parameter, even if it is spoken at a local level. The reason is not in the lack of quality personnel, but in the frivolity of the state in terms of supporting education in general, both in financial and in its interference in university politics, which is detrimental to every education.
Boris N — Google review
The most interesting brutal architectural complex in the city and the region. Four big buildings are gathered around huge public square. Interior space is fascinating and lighted from the roof. Very good example for well organized architectural and urban space. Architect of the building is Slovenian architect Marko Music.

Student dormitory
Student Dormitory Goce Delchev was established as part of the reconstruction efforts following an earthquake in Skopje. The dormitory complex, which can accommodate thousands of university students, was a significant addition to the city's housing options. In the late 1960s, architects from across Yugoslavia participated in a competition to design this expansive accommodation. Many were deeply moved by the cause and returned from studying abroad to contribute to the project.
Great place for students

I came across these buildings accidentally, while dining in the neighborhood. And I was literally stunned to see such unusual brutalist objects in the middle of nowhere. These buildings are out of this world. These dorms for Ciril and Methodius University students were built in 1969-1977 and renovated in 2015-2020. If you like this kind of architecture, you should definitely visit the university.

Old Railway Station „Skopje“ is a historical site that offers a glimpse into the city's past. The station, once a point of pride for Skopje, was heavily damaged in a devastating earthquake in 1963. Today, it stands as a monument to this event, with the clock frozen at the exact time the earthquake struck.
During our city tour, we got to see many interesting sights and here there stories, The story regarding this station is quite sad,in that the clock stopped at the exact time the earthquake hit in the 60's
V H — Google review
After reading mixed reviews we decided to give it a chance, and so glad we did. The exhibit is not overwhelming; we were able to see the entire collection in a couple hours. It is a bit heavy on the reading of history and a couple items are not labeled, but there is a variety with something for everyone. The construction reported in earlier reviews is complete now and the lower level rooms are open. Ask a museum staff member to see the upper rooms containing paintings, posters, and photos, the old underground platform access tunnel, and the outside spaces. Our guide, Mihail, was outstanding. No fee to enter.

Bojan M — Google review
Suli An represents a monument of culture and it is situated in the Skopje Bazaar, nearby Cifte Amam and the most easiest way to find it is if you take the entrance to the bazaar from the side of Bit Pazar (the green market). It was built by Isa Beg during the first half of the XV century and it is an object representative of the civilian Ottoman architecture. In the testament of Isa Beg, Suli An is mentioned as “The Old An”. The name “Suli”, meaning water, was given to this building rather late, and it derives from the river Serava which used to flow nearby this object. The river does not exist today, however the an retained the name. Suli An, just like Kurshumli An and Kapan An, is a karvansaraj which, alongside the small shops built around it, forms a special complex inside the Old bazaar, open on all four sides. Nowadays, the Painting Academy is inside Suli An, a place where you will be able to see artistic works such as paintings, sculptures and other works of art of professionals or young enthusiasts at any time of the day.
