Hurst Castle, located at the end of a shingle spit near Lymington in the New Forest, is a hidden gem with a rich history. Built as a defense fortress by Henry VIII, it features impressive 38-ton guns and offers visitors an opportunity to explore its military past. Accessible via a scenic walk from Milford-on-Sea or a passenger ferry from Keyhaven, the castle also houses a lighthouse exhibition and cafe.
Hurst Castle is a great place to visit. My husband and I took the kids and we all had such a lovely day. We parked up at keyhaven and took the ferry which was great fun. The castle has so much to see and stunning views of the needles/Isle of Wight and the fabulous lighthouse. Staff were friendly and sociable. We stopped for lunch in the castle and sat at one of the benches provided. After we saw everything at the castle, we took a walk to the lighthouse and put our feet in the lovely clear water which the kids loved. We have all said that it is one of the best places we've visited so far and already want to plan a future trip back here. We are members of the English heritage and we got in for free, we only paid for the ferry crossing which was pretty good price wise. All in all a great cheap family day out with lots to see and admire.
Hannah F — Google review
Really enjoyed it here, a mix of the old and the more modern, great history. We caught the little ferry boat over which was lovely, we were going to go back the same way but decided to walk back along the spit, was about 2 miles out in the open and shingle all the way, was very windy on the way back but a nice walk none the less. It's a bit of a gem and not over priced, definitely worth reading all the signs to learn about the history and the changes the castle went through.
John B — Google review
I enjoyed my visit immensely. A great place to bring children to run around, although I suggest you use the ferry with the little ones as its a 2 mile walk from the carpark. Completely dog friendly I brought mine. He enjoyed sniffing around the rooms but was impatient to move on. So I photographed the information panels for later. There's a very small cafe and the toilets are open to the elements.

Hurst Castle is an absolute gem. The walk from the car park to the castle is about 2 miles with lovely views of the Needles. You can get the ferry from Keyhaven to save on the walk. Once inside the castle, there’s so much to explore and the exhibitions are well presented and bring the stories of the castle to life. The views from the castle walls are breathtaking and you can see across to the Isle of Wight and watch the boats sail by. I’d highly recommend bringing a picnic and spending a few hours wandering, learning, and soaking up the atmosphere. A brilliant day out for families, history lovers, and anyone who enjoys a walk.
Simply W — Google review
We took the ferry across and then spent about 3 hours wandering round. Lots of different bits to see but the highlight are the views over to the Isle of White and the lighthouse. There is a little cafe out front and some rustic toilets inside. If you intend on being there over lunch I’d suggest bringing lunch with you.
Martin — Google review
Great morning out looking around this castle. Got the ferry there snd back which was great fun. Lovely views from the top of the castle overlooking isle of wight and beyond. Lot's of information given as you walk around.
Paul D — Google review
Great place to explore, by foot over shingle spit or by little boat. Lots of rooms to explore and learn history of the building, surrounding area and lighthouses in general. We had great time.
Irina M — Google review
This Castle has a lot to offer. Its history and role during various wars is well explained at various points inside the castle. There are many sections accessible only through narrow stairs. On an upper level there are lovely views across to Hust Beach and Keyhaven. In the other direction there is a clear view of the Isle of Wight.

Pub

The Queen's Head is a historic pub located in the charming village of Burley, dating back to 1685 and steeped in intriguing history. It was once at the heart of the New Forest smuggling trade, as evidenced by a recently discovered secret cellar containing various treasures. Today, it offers a traditional atmosphere with original features and a tempting menu of comfort food. The pub is known for its hearty portions at reasonable prices and caters to vegetarians and vegans as well.
Review I had a fantastic experience at the Queen’s Head! The Fish and Chips and the Steak Ale Pie were absolutely amazing—perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. The service was impeccable; the staff were attentive and friendly, making the visit even more enjoyable. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food and experience. The pub itself is beautiful and comfortable, with a cozy atmosphere that makes it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal. My only small critique would be the playlist—it didn’t quite match the otherwise wonderful ambiance. Overall, a highly recommended spot for great food and excellent service. I’ll definitely be back!
Gianpaulo B — Google review
This is a lovely English style Bar/Restaurant in Burley, they had a very good menu with lots to offer, the food was very tasty and our waitress Emma made us feel right at home. Emma also recommended a lovely place to stay for the night just 5 minutes drive from the burley call the White Buck. We booked in and it looks amazing. Thank you Emma.
Noel C — Google review
We popped in while driving through with our nervous dog. The garden is nice and big with plenty of seats, water for dogs etc. We had a few starters and sides for lunch and everything was tasty and very well presented. The inside of the pub is lovely with a mix of historic and modern touches!
Anna M — Google review
Lovely setting in the village of Burley, beautiful inside and out with restaurant, bar and garden settings for dining. Have 2 options for main as I have a citrus fruit intolerance and often this rules out fish options which it did in this case but I was prepared with a backup, tweaks were also made to the starter to accommodate me. Korean BBQ chicken strips - how did you make them so light and flavoursome? A gap was suggested between courses which I gratefully took before an epic main was delivered, lamb shank shepherds pie, I did not anticipate the entire shank to be sticking out of the pie, but there it was and it was amazing, the cheesy mash, the devine, rich gravy base with shredded shank and then the succulent bone of meat that melted, the extra gravy was not required and I am a massive gravy fan. Seriously this was beautiful. The service was excellent, very attentive, friendly staff showing excellent attention to all guests but a special shout out to Jamie, thank you for looking after me!
Claire R — Google review
Lovely food and service from Eleanor - we will be back! Well we went back for Sunday Roast and wow! Roast Rib of Beef was amazing! Jamie the landlord is a gem and one to keep hold of- Brewery take note!! So friendly, great atmosphere and nothing was too much trouble, it’s not just customer service, it’s customer care and that’s what makes a difference, by the way thanks for the Espresso Martini. Would I recommend this place…absolutely, whilst Jamie and his team are there! We’ve been coming to Burley for many years and have now found a real welcoming ‘local’ home from home.
Tash C — Google review
Lovely lunch at this pub! The staff are very kind and made us feel welcome. The menu had some great options and we enjoyed our cheese toastie and steak sandwich for lunch - they even asked how we wanted the steak cooked! We sat outside in the lovely garden, and really enjoyed the birds singing. Would strongly recommend and definitely return!
Georgina — Google review
The two young ladies behind the bar have to have the upmost praise for their warm, welcoming presence. Food was fabulous. Toilets spotless . Would 100% recommend stopping here.

We had a very nice experience here. The service was great and the food was wonderful. My kids enjoyed their meals and my husband and I had the steak and ale pie and Blackstone chicken. Both were very good. We would have liked to try a pudding, but we enjoyed our meal too much to save room!

The Old Station Tea Rooms, Holmsley, is a charming spot that offers a delightful experience for families and cyclists. Located along the Castlemans Corkscrew cycle route, this former railway station now serves as a pit stop for those exploring the area on two wheels. Families can enjoy a family-friendly menu while their energetic doggos can join in on the cycling adventure. The tearooms also feature an array of memorabilia and offer freshly cooked meals including vegetarian and vegan options.
Went for an early morning breakfast after a local walk. Pretty and quaint interior with lots of photos of the old station when it had trains. Breakfast was very good and freshly cooked and we didn't have to wait at all. Cake selection at the counter looked great especially the lemon meringue tart and the fruit tarts so will have to back soon to try those
Rog E — Google review
Like other reviewers we enjoyed our visit. Very popular in summer with New Forest visitors and dog friendly. Very nice people, they are attentive and welcoming. Varied menu to suit all tastes with good vegetarian and vegan options, and of course excellent bacon sandwiches! Came back for another lunch and had the Station Master Welsh Rarebit. A real treat, the menu said a slice of ham hidden underneath and I guess you would expect the thin supermarket stuff but what I got was a thick hand cut wedge of juicy baked ham , just outstandingly delicious!
Paul G — Google review
an old station of the former railway is now a wonderful tea room and pitstop in the New Forest. Excellent array of cakes and savoury .Staff friendly and welcoming with prompt service. Worth a visit if in the area. I would reserve for large tables so they know to expect.
Anne G — Google review
Me and my wife went there for breakfast on a Sunday morning before we went for a local walk in the forest. The full English breakfast was high quality and reasonably priced for the lovely produce. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the station setting was awesome. We will definitely come back when we return to the New Forest.

I've been coming to homesley tea rooms for many years now it's a absolute gem the food, staff, are outstanding there's a vast menu the cream teas are out of this world I don't think you could get better keep up the outstanding service you provided can't wait until my next visit.
Barry W — Google review
Fantastic place for lunch. We've eaten here several times over the years as a family. Good quality food, at a reasonable price, served with a smile. The cakes and pastries are worth a visit alone, particularly the rather excellent Lemon Meringue pie. Decent coffee! Dog friendly as long as you're sitting outdoors, not quite sure if they're allowed inside. Ample parking, although sometimes it's very busy so can be hard to find a spot, ditto for getting a table, but you can make a reservation on their website.
Carl B — Google review
Very good sandwiches and cake. Lovely staff. Railway memorabilia galore.

As always a pleasure to visit. I visit mostly with my mother who has dementia and however busy it gets there's always a warm welcome. Food consistent high quality, atmosphere and background music perfect for the feel of an old station. Love it.

Lovely country pub. Had the most amazing fish and chips with my friend. The cod was massive and so tasty. We didn't think we would eat it all but managed it pretty well!
Sindy D — Google review
A truly dog friendly pub. Most pubs say they are dog friendly, but this one lives it! Treats, water, toys, dog menu - perfect for us. Great beer garden, good food and lovely location. Glad we stopped by on our holiday to New Forest.
Hannah H — Google review
Lovely thatched pub just outside Ringwood and on the edge of the New Forest. Independently owned and they have put their all into wanting to make it a 🙌 🫶👍 unfortunately the young team members serving us, gave no enthusiasm in wanting to make us feel welcome or make our visit enjoyable. We ordered the elm tree burger and smoked haddock linguine which took 45 minutes to arrive, which we then had to wolf it down as we were running very late. No apology or reason was given as to why it took so long. The meals themselves were delicious hence the 5⭐️, and we will visit again and look forward to a more welcoming and enjoyable 5⭐️ experience, as we know the food certainly will be

The Elm Tree - Hightown, Ringwood. Hampshire. SUNDAY 31st August 2025 Stopped in for Sunday Roast following recommendation from my daughter who.lives in Ringwood. Lovely Turkey Roast ! Food excellent, service very good (thanks for looking after us Tracy). Atmoshere very nice and clearly a popular eatery as it was busy......service was still excellent. We attended a steam event at the Elm Tree (as a family). What a beautiful pub and surroundings!! The food, setting, staff and atmosphere was outstanding. I did not realise there are many regular events held here so I will be following the social media pages & will certainly be becoming regulars as well as stopping by for a Sunday Roast! Compliments to the chef as the food really was top notch! Thank you to the hard working team and manager! Absolutely SUPERB! Taya & family

We hired The Barn, the event space, for a private function for 80+ guests and everyone loved the event. Most of our guests were locals who knew of the Pub but were so complimentary about the food and service. The team are so helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. Great bar staff and we appreciated the recent updates to the Barn the loos and the furniture. I know they do weddings and other events and their packages are good value. We would thoroughly recommend this venue and pub.

Needed to organise an evening meeting of volunteers and the New forest was central to their home locations. So chose The ElmTree as the venue. After a two hour drive from Surrey we were given a warm welcome on arrival. A large table had been prepared in a quiet alcove and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Superb food, water jugs regularly refilled, good beers. Looking forward to our next annual meeting.. Thank you

When greeted outside the front door by a sign that says you must wear a shirt you quickly realise you cannot judge from appearances alone. Friday afternoon at 5pm and the bar was heaving with Dads who had completed the school run and were now feeding their charges. Interesting building, possibly old in places, interesting beers and a helpful team.....but we stayed for just the one pint in the garden ......

We had such a wonderful stay at The Burley Inn. From the moment we arrived, everyone was so welcoming and lovely. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere throughout our visit was calm, peaceful, and full of charm. We also loved exploring the local shops and the surrounding countryside - the energy of Burley is truly special. Some outdoor space by the front facing the road, restaurant has nice windows so it's not too dark. Service was lovely but the food was okay. Roast comes with boiled (not roasted) vegetables. There is a limited selection of drafts but the ales they did have were very nice.

Warm, genuine and friendly team running The Burley Inn. Very welcoming and accommodating! The pub is traditional and we stayed in a room above the entrance which made us feel like we were in a little lighthouse with the views. Excellent location for the village, food was fab and the price very reasonable. So glad we stayed here!

Whilst on a break I was taken to this location for a meal as a treat as I about to become a Chelsea Pensioner. Parking great. Welcoming..great...service good Food..terrible. the vegetables looked nice but were done in the new style..uncooked. I commented and the staff took it away for fresh veg. 30min later my partner had finished theirs. I went asked how long mine would be? The reply was 'in a minute' it came and the veg was still hard We left having paid the full price with no offer of an option etc.Terrible. Fri 20june 1458 3 meals one edible. POOR

Lovely pub in a small village with ponies waiting outside. Good outdoor seating area, with plenty of seat available when we got there at lunch time. We ordered 3 ploughman’s and a jacket Potato. Food overall nice, simple pub grub. We would return if we was in the area.

Nice pub / hotel set in the heart of the village. Great food and parking. Cannot comment on the hotel rooms as only enjoy a delious meal here, one on Sunday offered a roast, and a weekday for an evening meal. Both visits good food well cooked very friendly and accommodating.

Bartender was great when we popped in for a pint, friendly atmosphere. Did a 4 mile walk and was looking forward to a nice roast. Same Bartender, straight to a nice table. However once we sat down, we were ignored for 10 minutes, even after we tried to catch the staffs eye. Then a group of 4 came in, sat down and was served immediately. Not happy and promptly got up and left. Very disappointing as we thought that would round the day up. Went do pub over the road (Queens head) and was served immediately.

Amazing place for a morning stroll or even a day at beach ⛱️ very well organised as many paths for walk, parts of beach that allow dogs, a place for a coffee or a breakfast, ice cream and toilets but what impressed me the most was the cleanliness! A lot of rubbish bins but also, nice people caring for this beautiful place. Every time I come here, it makes my day!

Beautiful beach, largely sand, nice & clean. Great views. Gentle sloping sea (albeit pretty rough when we were there). Quiet with a few surfers, families, couples & the odd dog. Dog friendly. Car park right at the top of the cliff with a fairly easy short walk / slope / steps options to the beach below. Restaurant & toilets available. Really enjoyed

We have just enjoyed a family break at the Lakeside campsite. Perfect for children with a little park close to the tents. We had a fantastic time kayaking and there are many other activities we'd like to try another time. Grounds are beautiful. Facilities for campers could be improved. Showers a dribble with no temperature control or shelf to put glasses etc. Washing up basins are knee height and back breaking. Rubbish and recycling bins are too small for the volume of campers. However, facilities were regularly cleaned. There is a strict 'quiet time' between 10pm and 7am which we liked (although being directly under a flight path broke the peace). Sadly a large group were up one night screaming and shouting until the early morning despite staff telling them to keep it down. There's always one! Staff couldn't have been more apologetic and the next day told the group they'd be asked to leave if it happened again. Would like to visit again to try more activities.

We had a great time doing the raft building activity for a hen do. Our instructor Rachel was amazing, her instructions were clear so we made strong rafts but she also set up great games for us. The site had great facilities for changing and we would love to come back to stay on the campsite.

Cafe was barely open. Staff shortage apparently. Phone connected to WiFi very rarely and no normal phone signal. I didn’t mind but my dad didn’t like that showers were mixed sex.

Great location, kids had an amazing time would definitely visit again. Only downside was unisex toilets and showers not very clean, we had our own in the caravan so wasn’t so much of a problem but would not have enjoyed my stay if I had to use the public showers and toilets.
S X — Google review
We took a caravan and camped in the lakeside field. Access to the field is down a long narrow, winding unmade road with large bumps and tight corners through trees, not for the faint hearted or larger vans. While our pitch near the lake was level enough, the pitches nearest the house are on a slope. In this field there is no grey water disposal site. Most campers had tents. The site was full and the unisex toilet and shower blocks became dirty quite quickly. One toilet/shower block was not really sufficient or needed cleaning more frequently. Litter was also a bit of a problem on the site. The site has a wide range of outdoor activities you can purchase - these look great. A small playground for kids was well used and there are woods to explore. Location is great for the New Forest and for the sea side (8 miles). The site is directly under the landing patch for Bournemouth airport.

Mudeford Sandbank is a stunning sandy peninsula located in the east of Dorset, near Christchurch and the New Forest in Hampshire. This natural barrier between Christchurch Harbour and the open ocean is a designated Site of Nature Conservation Interest, home to rare reptiles, birds, and insects. Accessible by foot, bike, land train or ferry from Hengistbury Head car park, it offers opportunities for picnicking, swimming, water sports and beach hut rentals.
Stunning place, the inner river is perfect for kayaking and the other side of the spit is great for beach fun, a small ferry can take you over to the other side of the quay and a land train will take you up a private road to the car park at Hengistbury Head. this place is perfect for kids to ride bikes as the only vehicle is the land train.

St Michael's & All Angels Church is a captivating mid-Victorian church situated on an ancient manmade mound above the High Street. The church doubles as an art gallery, adorned with exquisite wood and stone carvings, stepped brickwork, and stained glass windows by renowned artists like Edward Burne-Jones and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Additionally, it features a remarkable fresco by Lord Frederick Leighton FRA.
Whilst on a weekend break in the New Forest we visited this lovely church. Impressed by the stained glass windows and the beautiful interior. Interesting that there were no pews just modern seats. The grave of the girl who supposedly Alice in Wonderland is based on is at the rear if the church.

I stopped here on a trip north from the south coast and found the church open. It is a treasure of a building with beautiful stained glass windows. I was also intrigued to see the pattern on the outside of the spire.

Interesting church if you are in the area. Notable for the "Alice" (in Wondrland) grave in the churchyard behind the church itself.

Wow! Angels by name and angels by nature - they are everywhere in this lovely old church, in the woodwork, the masonry, the stained glass, on doors, and life size ones on the ceiling. It is a glorious church, with a quite astonishing interior. It has the grave of Mrs Reginald Hargreaves in its graveyard. Mrs Hargreaves was Alice Liddell, the girl who was Lewis Carroll's inspiration for Alice In Wonderland. There are plentiful information boards with lots of fascinating details about all of this and the history and background. The church has some vividly coloured frescoes by Leighton which are quite lovely. Burne-Jones, Rossetti and William Morris also have left their marks here. This is a Grade 1 listed building. Brilliant and quite simply glorious. Highly recommended.

I visited This lovely church on the 7th of November with my mum. Two ladies were serving tea and cakes on a volunteer basis. Mum was cold so we went inside, they were really welcoming and the atmosphere was really special. We came away with a lovely memory. They serve a hot drinks the first Tuesday of the month. Thank you ladies you made us feel really welcome. Look round the church and see the Alison wonderland connection and please make a donation to the church. Thanks again

Lovely Gothic style church sat on a hill in Lyndhurst over looking the village. Small churchyard but with a famous grave of Mrs. Reginald Hargreaves, the “Alice ” in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Inside a Fresco of 19th Century stands out in the East end with lighting beaming onto the Angels in the roof.

Beautiful and imposing mid Victorian church built from coloured bricks and tiles. It is filled with high quality stained glass and paintings, and wooden and stone carvings. The fresco behind the altar is the parable of the Wise and Foolish virgins. The stained glass is by the pre-Raphaelites. Very well worth a visit.

We were there on August 12. We liked the beach. There are small sandy places on almost every beach, your feet don't hurt as much there as on a shallow stone. The sea was cool, but you get used to it quickly. The children couldn't be pulled out of the water. There is a public toilet, shower, parking, cafe to eat and buy ice cream. Very good!

Additionally, there is a Chinese takeaway located at Lymington Road in New Milton near Kings House that offers generous portions of tasty food with prompt delivery service. Customers have praised the quality and quantity of the food, with some recommending specific dishes like curry and pancake rolls.
Wow wow wow, 1st time we have ordered from here, for an online delivery and was thoroughly impressed. Delivery was quick, food portions were impressive and the taste and quality is the best I’ve had for a long time (chicken curry and red Thai curry). The price was very reasonable as well! We will definitely be returning customers.

Ordered food, was told it would arrive at 9:05pm. Rung as it got to 9:30pm and was told that it was cooking and would be another 10-15 minutes… thought we would try a new Chinese as we normally go to Chinatown in Highcliffe, but fancied a change. Should’ve stuck to Chinatown, at least they stick to their ETA’s.

We are new to the area and are trying out different restaurants and takeaways. Last Friday we ordered from the King’s House Chinese takeaway, Lymington Road, New Milton on the corner by the traffic lights. The food was delivered on time (actual 5 minutes before). Nestled atop a hill, the Church of St Nicholas is a historical gem in Brockenhurst, known as "Broceste" in the Domesday Book. This charming church is celebrated as the oldest in the New Forest and holds a unique place in history as it’s the only one from this region mentioned in that ancient record. While Victorian enhancements have added to its character, visitors can still admire remnants of Saxon craftsmanship within its old Nave's herring-bone masonry.

Beaulieu Abbey, founded in 1204 by Cistercian monks on land given to them by King John, is a conserved ruin that offers visitors the chance to step back in time and explore the remains of the cloister and herb garden. The abbey continued its existence until 1538 when it was destroyed during Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries. Today, visitors can still see two remaining buildings, one housing an exhibition that recreates daily life in the monastery.
Visited 17/8 for Simply Aston. By chance I stumbled on a brilliant display of Falconry in the Cloisters. The Head Falconer was a revelation and the audience was captivated. The Birds flew amongst us and it was thrilling not only these Birds of Prey but also to feel the history of the activity 800 years ago. Thank you. I sat in the Drawing Room of the Palace House and a pianist played some Schubert. The gardens then beckoned before I visited the Russian Exhibition in the Clock House. What a lovely day
Patrick H — Google review
The abbey is part of the Beaulieu ticket. Very interesting abbey ruins and exhibition that shared more about its history as the largest English Cistercian abbey (until the dissolution of the monasteries), what life was like for the people there, and notable objects. We spent about 20-30 minutes reading through the information and enjoying the peaceful area.
Becky T — Google review
Once a thriving Cistercian monastery is now left dormant and available to look around. Majority is just ruins, but some of the buildings - notably those surrounding the cloister still remain. Lots of herbs are seen growing in the Abbey cloisters.
Ian F — Google review
Spectacular and amazing Abbey Ruins within the Beaulieu estate. There is an informative video about the origins of the Abbey from King John and the Cistercian order who came from France, which is thoroughly informative and interesting and this history is laid out with the information panels. Within the main building there is a reconstruction model of what the Abbey may have looked like giving some idea of the scale of this wonderful place and there are informative displays about how the Monks lived with their diet and daily routine and how they would go to the infirmary if they were very ill. The information display also goes into how the Abbey was built and constructed giving you a clear and full idea of the work involved to build it. You can also wander around the amazing and spectacular ruins and marvel at the beautiful architecture and also see the grave of the last Lord Montagu before the current one. Overall a brilliant and nice place to visit and makes for a very interesting day out. Definitely worth a visit in the New Forest.

Spent a glorious day here in the September sunshine. Started on the monorail. Thought we were going to be there all day as we couldn't get the door open and the guard forgot us. Still laughing. Went to the Motor Museum next. Fascinating. Took a ride on the old style bus and walked back up through the Riverside walk and the gardens, looking at the sculpture exhibition. Then had some of the best ever fish and chips, followed by chocolate sundae, in The Brabazon Restaurant and Coffee Shop. Finally, went back down to the old ruins and cloisters to see the historic exhibition there,

No public access to this place of worship you have to pay to get access to the plot of land it's situated on. Abbey house and grounds is one tourist package deal sadly 👍 wasted hour of my day to find out it's not accessible to even take a photo 👍 capitalism at its finest and they wonder why Christianity is dying in the UK 👍
First N — Google review
Most of the Abbey is a ruin now, but you can still see the footprint and layout of this ecclesiastical place. Several buildings survive including the Church and Domus. The Abbey museum takes you through the history of this place and what it was like for the Benedictine monks and lay brothers who lived there. They maintained good infirmary facilities to look after their own. Don't miss the upstairs exhibition of Lady Montagu's Wall Hangings which tell the story of Beaulieu Abbey from it's foundation in 1204 to it's dissolution in 1538.
Miles M — Google review
Absolutely stunning setting for this little 13th century gem. In the grounds of the Beaulieu Motor Museum lies the serene Beaulieu Abbey and Beaulieu parish church (which used to be the Cistercian monks refectory) The gardens surrounding it are well stocked and very calming after the hubbub in the excellent museum. We spent a long time here in this quiet spot just absorbing the atmosphere and enjoying the plants and the history. Some of the buildings there, the Abbey Domus upper floor for example, are not accessible to anyone in a wheelchair but that didn't put a dampener on my lovely time there. I would love to return.

St. Nicholas' Church is a historic church located in the town of Brockenhurst in Hampshire, England. The church is noted for its ornate architecture and Saxon herringbone wall work, dating back to the 11th century. The building has been modified and enlarged over the centuries, but much of its original features remain. Today, the church is a tranquil place where visitors can enjoy beautiful gardens and views of the New Forest countryside.
My visit to St. Nicholas Church in Brockenhurst allowed me to appreciate the beauty and simplicity of this small church. Despite its modest size, it exudes an atmosphere of serenity and spirituality. The adjoining cemetery and the memorial dedicated to New Zealand soldiers who fell during the First World War add a poignant touch to this peaceful place.

Lovely little church dating back before the 12th century. The main church you see today has major additions in the 13th & 18th (the red brick) centuries. The major draw is the grave site of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle but inside the church has little gems too including a three-decked pulpit and two-tiered galleries. Also spot where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's daughter, Jean Conan Doyle's ashes are buried in the same graveyard. Another memorial I saw was of two young children who had been murdered. Easy parking and a great church to visit.
Peter B — Google review
My wife and myself were looking for Conan Doyle’s burial place a few years back. A very small woman suddenly appeared from nowhere and showed us the grave. She explained that he was interred from Crowborough to minstead on a stormy day and that night a thunderstorm had passed over and a bolt of lightning struck the yew tree beside the grave and split it in half. We looked at the tree for a few seconds and then turned to ask the woman who she was but she had disappeared. We looked around the church yard and checked inside the church but to no avail. Recently we revisited the graveyard and found no trace of any yew tree. We also asked around the village and in the village pub the trusty servant if anyone knew the small woman. Nobody had ever seen or heard of her. Next to his grave is a plaque marking the resting place of the lovely Emma chambers from the vicar of dibley fame.

Visitors are often captivated by its stunning architecture and breathtaking stained glass windows, which add to the church's charm.

The church and grounds are beautiful, however when I went to visit in March, no one spoke and a group of women just stood drying cups and saucers in a corner. I wasn't welcomed at all. The Church of St Thomas the Apostle in Lymington has a rich history dating back to the mid-thirteenth century, with some parts of the current building originating from the early thirteenth century. The church, a Grade II Listed building, suffered damage during the English Civil War and has since undergone architectural additions including a tower and cupola. With over 800 years of existence, this historic church offers a welcoming atmosphere and active community involvement.
A beautiful church. A welcoming congregation as I was a 'visitor' and I was lucky enough to be there for the 775th anniversary. Also attended by the Bishop of Southampton. I loved the beautiful etched glass doors. ⛵️🚤⚓️☀️☀️

The church was closed when I was there, but it looked cute fro the outside
Oliver L — Google review
A very serene place of worship and historical building that is very well looked after indeed. The church was open to all during the day and very welcoming. It would’ve been nice to have someone to answer some questions.

Christmas trees for sale. Each tree had a different theme. Really enjoyed it.

A lovely ancient church which can only be seen from the exterior at the moment (COVID-19). Tranquil graveyard for reflection, at the back.

Beautiful church. Have put on many orchestral concerts there, with up to 50/60 players and singers. It is a bit of an awkward space due to the various alterations to the building over the centuries, and a sometimes too dry an Acoustic. However the local community are very supportive and appreciative of having live music in their midst.
Didsbury — Google review
Went to watch the Queen's funeral streamed to big screens. Welcoming from the friends running the event felt calm and respectful. All went smoothly with clear pictures and sound plus comfortable seating. They were prepared for a concert with stage in place in the evening showing the church were an active community resource. If we lived locally it would surely be our regular place of worship. Thanks to the team for doing it so well.

All Saints Church is a vibrant community hub that beautifully blends tradition with modernity. Known for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, this local church features a traditional four-part choir accompanied by an impressive organ, creating a rich musical experience during services. The congregation prides itself on being approachable, ensuring newcomers feel right at home with warm greetings and delightful refreshments like coffee and biscuits after the service.
We attended ‘Messy Church’ here today with my 4 year old. She absolutely loved it, completely free and we had 2 hours of Arts and crafts, baking singing with dance moves and even a hot dog to finish. We were made to feel so welcome from the moment we walked through the door. Everyone was friendly and chatty to both me and my daughter. Will definitely come again.
Madz T — Google review
A wonderful Easter Sunday service with messy church children bringing in their completed art work for us all to enjoy and reflect upon. A joyous occasion for all.
Kim C — Google review
Friendly, approachable and made very welcome by all. Traditional four-part choir with a beast of a church organ and a modern take on the recognisable Anglican tradition. Afterwards there's socialising where all newcomers are made to feel welcome with coffee, biscuits (and sometimes) cake. Lots for the younger members to separately participate in. We attend regularly now.

Milford-On-Sea Baptist Church is a charming place that offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere for its visitors.
