Nestled in the serene Dashu district of Kaohsiung, the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum stands as a monumental testament to Mahayana Buddhism. This expansive complex is not only home to Taiwan's largest Buddhist monastery but also features a university and several temples. The museum itself, which opened its doors seven years ago, has quickly become a must-visit destination for travelers seeking spiritual enrichment and cultural insight.
Visited the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum in Kaohsiung’s Dashu District in August 2025. The museum is affiliated with one of Taiwan’s largest Buddhist organizations and is known for its large golden Big Buddha statue, which sits on the roof and is a major tourist attraction in Kaohsiung. We happened to visit on the day Typhoon Podul hit southern Taiwan, so we were only able to see the museum and not the nearby monastery. Inside, the museum houses several shrines, including those for Avalokitesvara, the Golden Buddha, and the Jade Buddha (Reclining Buddha). Photography is not allowed inside the shrine areas. Above the Jade Buddha shrine is where one of Buddha's tooth relic is kept. Other exhibits include displays on the life of the Buddha, Buddhist festivals, the history of Fo Guang Shan, and a 4D short film about the Buddha’s life. Outside, there are eight pagodas, each representing different Buddhist teachings. The large metal Big Buddha statue overlooks the entire complex from the top of the museum adds spiritual and architectural grandeur of the site.
Sujatha N — Google review
The Buddha is standing in the center of the building witb eight Chinese-styled pagodas on either side of the main avenue leading up to the Bodhi Square. The place is not surrounded by trees and the weather is warm when we visit so please bring sunglasses 👓, umbrella and cap. Along the side of the pagoda is sheltered and every pagoda holds a different theme. The staff were friendly and helpful. They will invite you to the pagoda and provide information of whats in the pagoda. There is a tooth relic true buddha so please check the timing when visiting. The old temple section is closed for renovation so we never went up. The whole area is wheelchair friendly.

Guang Shan is one of the most influential modern Buddhist organizations in Taiwan and globally. summary, Fo Guang Shan has grown from a local Taiwanese monastery into a global Buddhist movement with profound influence. Through modern management and diverse methods of teaching, it has successfully integrated Buddhism into contemporary society, making significant contributions to personal well-being, education, culture, and social welfare. It is a premier example of the successful application of Humanistic Buddhism.
Simon W — Google review
Absolutely worth a visit when you’re in the Kaohsiung area. No need to buy tickets for visiting the museum and the monastery. Very insightful museums about the history of Buddhism and Fo Guang Shan. Extremely friendly and helpful staff as well. The bus from Kaohsiung takes you right in front of the entrance.
Daniel K — Google review
A huge, sprawling complex with a lot to see. We spent about 4 hours walking around and the visit still felt rushed. Part A is the main newer part. Part B was closed for renovation. Part C is more academic, residential & administrative building. The Garden of Buddha was the best part in C.
Vincent O — Google review
Grand, impressive, peaceful, & free. Love learning all the Buddhist proverbs, history, & teachings here. 100% worth the visit: you can spend all day here!
Bridget S — Google review
Worth the visit despite super hot and humid weather. People here are very kind and souvenirs are reasonably priced. Vegetarian food options are available onsite. Will visit again.
Dana E — Google review
Absolute worth the trip to visit this amazing place of worship. Caught the E 02Hafo express from Zuoying station platform 3. A quick 30 min drive on the highway. Make sure to queue as bus can only take seated travellers. No standing permitted. Have lunch, have tea, sit in the gardens, shop in the stores, embrace the beautiful energy of this place. Spending an hour or a day, or even return. Absolutely worth it.

Lotus Pond is a captivating artificial lake nestled in Kaohsiung, renowned for its stunning lotus plants and the array of temples that grace its shores. This picturesque destination invites visitors to stroll along its pathways while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere created by the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, which are among the most iconic structures here. Established in 1951, Lotus Pond boasts over a dozen temples, some dating back more than two centuries, each offering unique architectural beauty and serene views of the water.
Fascinating temples on the water you can reach via bridges. Unique place, haven't seem similar before.
Melanie F — Google review
hmm, it's good, but i think it could be better. i went here on the afternoon, there are a lot of people who are fishing in the lake. i saw dead fish, someone singing loudly with microphone, dogs that are pooping, cute turtles, swans and ducks. people jogging, traveling, praying. for some reason, after all, it depicts ... life.
Bianca S — Google review
Lotus pond is probably one of the most iconic attractions of kaoshiung! Therefore, I decided to pay a visit during my trip in kaoshiung. The lotus pond is huge and is right beside other places worth visiting such as the pagodas and temples along the pond.
Johnny J — Google review
A massive lake (what can I say😆), surrounded with temples you can visit. Too lazy to walk? Youbike pools are available there.
Reyna W — Google review
This place is just breathtaking with its many beautiful temples, statues and pagodas, and it is all free. You can feed the fish and sea turtles, get luck by venturing through the dragon mouth and out through the tiger mouth. You can get amazing pictures. What's not to love?
Esben E — Google review
Main attraction in Kaohsiung. Big pond with many colourful temples and pagodas. Some stores and shops along the pond but not big variety. The main pagoda is currently in construction/renovation. No lotus during aug when we visited. Look quite dull. We tried milk tea nearby but was not good.
Trang N — Google review
Very beautiful sunset spot, cycling and walking trails. Have got lovely coffee shop too in that location. Truly worth visiting 😍

Love the walk around the pond. Which is about 3km. Plenty of space for training ( bicycle or running) a couple of Taiwanese and Western style restaurants. Confucius temple close at 5pm.

Kaohsiung, known as Taiwan's 'Harbour Capital,' has undergone a transformation from an industrial city to a modern metropolis. The Love River, also called Ai He, is one of the areas that has benefited from beautification projects. It's a popular spot for visitors and locals alike. The city is also recognized for its bike-friendly environment with designated paths through parks.
A nice bike path along the river connecting to the harbor, cruise terminal and the city.
World E — Google review
Love River is an iconic beautiful river of Kaoshiung. I visited during one of the evening and took a relaxing stroll along the river after the boat cruise. I love the fact that its not crowded, thou I feel there is nothing much of interest around the area in the evening.
Johnny J — Google review
Really love the river. Early in morning and late at night: always a nice walk!
Alain B — Google review
It is a river (historically a canal) that flows through the heart of Kaohsiung City, in southern Taiwan. It is considered the "mother river" of the city. The Love River is now a beautiful, clean waterfront and the top tourist attraction in Kaohsiung. · Its banks feature promenades, parks, cafes, and restaurants, perfect for walking, cycling, and relaxing.
Simon W — Google review
Recommend to take small boat instead so that the boat can get through low-ceiling bridge. There is tour guide to tell you about the sightseeing but in Chinese.

I didn’t find love but I might have a bacterial infection. I guess a win is a win. If you’re tired of Tinder, this river might be worth a shot. I had the same amount of success (none). Good luck, King!

The Dome of Light is a must-see attraction in Kaohsiung, located at the Formosa Boulevard Station. This massive glass art installation, resembling a cathedral, is the world's largest of its kind with around 4,500 glass panels. Designed by Italian artist Narcissus Quagliata, the colorful masterpiece was created using glass panels shipped from Germany. Its vibrant and intricate design makes it one of the most recognizable symbols of Kaohsiung.
The Dome of Light at Formosa Boulevard Station is one of Kaohsiung’s most breathtaking landmarks. This massive stained-glass installation, designed by artist Narcissus Quagliata, transforms the metro station into a mesmerizing work of art. When illuminated, the vivid colors and intricate details create a stunning visual experience, especially during the light show. Beyond the artwork, the station often hosts a small flea market, adding to its charm. Here, you can browse local crafts, souvenirs, and snacks while enjoying the lively atmosphere. As one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world, it’s well worth a visit—even if you’re not taking the train.
Wisanu T — Google review
Within the Formosa station, they have the famous Dome of Lights. The color, art and structure of it looks so amazing. A lot of locals, tourists and school kids on field trip come to the station to see this artwork. Around this place, there are several restaurants like food court style. I found a wonderful gift shop nearby as well. We were at this site several times, before going to the Kaohsiung post office and near by street market.
Nehal A — Google review
Stopped by the Dome of Light at Formosa Boulevard MRT Station in Kaohsiung — absolutely stunning! The colors and design are mesmerizing, and it's even more special during the scheduled light show. If you're in Kaohsiung, definitely worth a quick stop to admire this beautiful art installation. Super pretty and easy to access right at the MRT station!
Izzatul A — Google review
This station is full of wonders. The Dome of Light is the main attraction. Tourists just come here to take pictures. It has lightening show 10:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00, 21:00. There are food, snacks, drinks and shopping. You will be able to get souvenirs in those small shops. The station is very clean. Easy to navigate. The PA is in Mandarin, English, Japanese (not sure about Korean).
Sharon H — Google review
The Dome of Light at Formosa Boulevard is one of Kaohsiung’s most popular landmarks and a must-see for anyone visiting the city. Located right inside the MRT station, it’s both a functional transit hub and a stunning piece of art. Many call it the world’s largest glass art installation, designed by Italian artist Narcissus Quagliata. The dome is made up of thousands of glass panels that represent the four elements—water, earth, light, and fire—symbolizing the cycle of human life. What makes it special is how it transforms an ordinary subway station into a space full of color and light. As soon as you step off the train, you’re greeted with a glowing ceiling that changes in tone and mood depending on the time of day. The colors are vivid and mesmerizing, making it one of the most photographed spots in Kaohsiung. If you’re coming from the airport, you can conveniently drop off at this station to see the Dome of Light—it’s on the transfer line, so it’s easy to find. Since Formosa Boulevard is one of the city’s busiest stations, there are usually a lot of commuters passing by. But if you’re patient and wait for the right timing, you can get a photo with almost no one in the frame. Whether you stay for a few minutes or longer, it’s worth seeing this place in person. The craftsmanship, the meaning behind the design, and the peaceful atmosphere beneath the lights make it one of Kaohsiung’s most memorable attractions.
Ayo C — Google review
Let's be clear, it's just a train station and a passing view. Don't come here thinking it's a museum or anything. That given, it's pretty cool display! If you're in the area, pop in for like 5 mins to enjoy and take pics.
Benjamin L — Google review
Underwhelming. Pictures make it look more vibrant than real life. The video show is pathetic. It may have been innovative 25 years ago, but they should terminate it and just leave the ceiling illuminated (as it is most of the time).
John G — Google review
A beautiful and elegant station with sporadic light shows great for the kids to enjoy. Came and missed the main light show at 11am and 3pm but the atmosphere made up for it. Has teamlab planet vibes

Nestled in the scenic Lianchihtan area of Kaohsiung, the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas stand as a vibrant testament to traditional Taiwanese architecture. These striking twin pagodas, adorned with colorful dragon and tiger statues, invite visitors to enter through the dragon's mouth and exit through the tiger's jaws—a symbolic journey believed to transform misfortune into good luck.
There were very few people when we went here. The pagodas look well maintained and looks really nice in photos. Worth the visit, since this is one of the few must-see spots in Kaohsiung. We did the recommendation of entering the dragon’s mouth and exiting the tiger’s. Will visit again in a few years.

The Dragon and Tiger Tower at Lotus Lake is one of attraction landmark in Kaohsiung, known for its vibrant design and cultural significance. While the entrance of Tiger and dragon was closed during my visit, the scenic surroundings make it a great spot for a walk or bike ride for families. Nearby, the Beiji Xuantian Shangdi Temple impresses with its intricate architecture and religious importance, while the Spring and Autumn Pavilions feature a stunning tower and a massive dragon sculpture but entrance closed during my visit. Admission is free! If you’re exploring Kaohsiung, it’s definitely a place to check out—just be sure to confirm its accessibility before your visit!
Yu — Google review
It’s a religious monument but also a major tourist attraction. The reflection on the water makes it look surreal. It would be more interesting if you know the meaning of each architectural feature.

The Tiger and Dragon Pagodas are an absolutely stunning and iconic spot in Kaohsiung! The colorful temples, detailed dragon and tiger statues, and peaceful Lotus Pond surroundings make it a must-visit place. Walking through the dragon’s mouth and exiting through the tiger symbolizes turning bad luck into good fortune — such a unique experience.
Jhay J — Google review
The Dragon and Tiger Pagodas (龍虎塔, Lóng Hǔ Tǎ) in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, are a famous and colorful tourist attraction. Unlike the ancient, stone-carved Dragon Tiger Tower in Jinan, the Kaohsiung Dragon and Tiger Pagodas are a modern, colorful, and interactive cultural experience. They are a highlight of Kaohsiung's tourism scene, famous for their unique design, the folk belief associated with entering them, and their picturesque setting on Lotus Pond. If you go there when you travel the area—it's a famous Instagram spot!"
Simon W — Google review
One of Kaohsiung’s most iconic sights, featured in almost every photo of the city. Built in the 1970s, it lacks the historic feel of much older temples or pagodas, but it still has its own character — a very 70s vibe — which I actually like. The open mouths of the dragon and tiger give it a slightly playful, almost theme-park feel, yet the location at Lotus Pond is beautiful. The area is worth exploring further, with many other temples, a walkway and bridge leading up to a small hill, and a nice viewpoint. Like most places, it’s at its most beautiful during blue hour, when the lights come on and the mix of warm and cool colors creates a stunning contrast.
Nik — Google review
Beautiful spot, best visited in the late afternoon for the view. I went with friends and enjoyed walking around the nearby attractions. There are also local food stalls around the pond — great for a quick snack.

Liouhe Night Market, also known as Liouhe Tourist Night Market, is a renowned open-air market in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Dating back to the 1940s, it boasts over 100 stalls predominantly offering delectable food options. The market is situated on Liuhe 2nd Road near Kaohsiung MRT Formosa Boulevard Station and comes alive after dark with its lively atmosphere.
We are fancy with large night market but rather prefer one with more local touch. We stayed near to this and love it much! We been visiting for 3 nights straight for different street foods, we got to learn that some stalls has been there for over 30 years or even longer history! Strongly recommend the foods we shared in pictures, and do visit a shop that sell the bags or accessories! The husband & wife shop owners are extremely friendly and their products are good quality with reasonable price! Many has been asking where I bought the nice bag 🤣😂 Love this market, grateful for all the lovely conversations we had and met with the locals here ❤️ 谢谢你们

We enjoyed dining here. It was a few minutes away from our hotel so we went here twice. Stayed at the tables near the grilled oysters and fried mushrooms but bought food from several stores. This review is mainly an appreciation post for the store that sells bags, we found them a few minutes before midnight so most stores were closed already. If you find yourself out of luggage space from having brought too many souvenirs/food, we found a store that sells big foldable bag for luggage check-in. Will post the photos for reference.

Liuhe Night Market (六合夜市) – Kaohsiung, Taiwan One of the best night markets to explore in Kaohsiung! The atmosphere is lively and full of local charm — colorful signs, friendly vendors, and an endless variety of street food to try. I tested several stalls and everything was freshly made and delicious. The grilled skewers and sausages were flavorful, while the fried snacks were crispy and satisfying. Prices are reasonable, and you can easily walk and eat your way through the market. It’s also very convenient to reach (right next to Formosa Boulevard MRT station), and the street is clean and organized compared to many other night markets. Perfect for both locals and travelers who want to taste authentic Taiwanese street food in a fun and safe environment. Highly recommended for a casual dinner or evening stroll — come hungry! 📍 Tip: Visit after 6 PM when most stalls are open, and bring some cash (many stalls don’t take cards).

Liuhe Night Market is just a five-minute walk from my hotel, so it was the first place I visited after checking in. I left my bags in the room and immediately headed out to grab something to eat. As soon as I arrived, the lively atmosphere greeted me—bright lights, food stalls lined up on both sides, and the smell of grilled seafood everywhere. The market was crowded with tourists and locals, all exploring the different food options. Most stalls sell seafood dishes, fried chicken, and milk tea, but there are also snacks, desserts, and souvenirs if you take time to look around. It’s a great place to experience local flavors and the energy of Kaohsiung at night. The best part is how close it is to my hotel, making it easy to visit again if I crave a late-night snack.

Its the only night market we went to while in Kaoshiung due to bad weather. We enjoyed the food here though only few stalls were open when we stroll as its still early but all the food we bought were superb!steamed white corn, sausage, fried squid is the best. A lot of fresh juice to chose from that really complements the food . Enjoyed eating everything while walking.

This is the night market at Kao Xiong. Near one MRT station. Quite hot even at night time. We came here on 25 September 2025, which is still a summer in Taiwan. Many different types of local food. They open from 5pm to 2am. The foods are almost the same for any other night market. They have another night market nearby too. Walking distance.

The Liuhe Night Market is one of the most famous and tourist-friendly night markets in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Liuhe Night Market is a bustling, straight pedestrian street packed with food stalls, game booths, and seating areas. It's a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Kaohsiung, offering a concentrated taste of Taiwanese street food culture in a clean and organized environment. Must-try different kind of foods, you won't disappoint.
Simon W — Google review
We went on a Monday night around 7pm. It’s just 1 long street so it’s easy to walk its entire length. You will find your typical Taiwan night market selling fruit drinks, cut up fruit, boneless chicken feet, Taiwanese sausages, pepper meat buns, pork jerky, Japanese street food, dumplings, green onion pancakes, and oyster omelettes to name a few. Besides a few grilled squid stands and fruit juice stands, I like that there wasn’t that many repeated food items offered. Tainan, the oldest city in Taiwan and its former capital, is steeped in history and cultural influences. The city's architecture reflects its rich past, from Dutch-built forts to European-style shop houses constructed during Japanese rule. Meiling Scenic Area in Tainan County offers stunning views of Jhuzihjian Mountain, Zengwen Reservoir, and the Chianan Plain. Once known for banana production, the area now features plum trees due to changing economic opportunities.

Night market
Ruifeng Night Market, also known as Rueifong Night Market, is a bustling outdoor market located in Kaohsiung. It is the largest and most crowded night market in the city, offering a wide variety of traditional Taiwanese street food such as Taiwanese takoyaki, fried oyster omelette, and stinky tofu. In addition to food vendors, there are also stalls selling clothes and accessories.
Closed on Monday and Wednesday. Go after 6/7pm is better. It's very hot. If you visit Kaohsiung, this night market is MUST GO on your list!! It has food drinks shopping and entertainment in one spot. Low price range for most of the vendors you visit. I'm sure you can haggle if you like. Pretty much cash only. Some vendors might take LINE PAY. They are all nice and willing to show you the merchandise or how to play games. There's a service center in the middle if you need help.

This is one of the famous night markets in Kaohsiung. To get there you got to get to Kaohsiung Arena Metro Station. It's less than 5 mins walk from the metro station. It was super crowded when I visited. Lot of food stalls. Reasonably priced. The Angel Fried Chicken is a must try for sure, do not add the spicy powder if you want just enjoy the chicken. Just ask the vendor to add some minimum salt and pepper. Mine was overloaded with Spicy Powder. Nevertheless it's one of the best juicy fried chicken I have had. Other than that I tried the papaya milk, spicy fish balls, the Chinese omelette crepe, and another fried thing with an egg, the Japanese shrimp balls. Etc. Lot of choices. If you are planning to visit in the evening or night I suggest you to skip lunch so that you can try the maximum stuff you can stuff. Overall a great place and a must visit in Kaohsiung.

About 5 minutes on foot from MRT station was probably the best night market in Kaohsiung. There were so many food options for us to try at reasonable prices. We specifically loved the fried stinky tofu with thousand-year egg. The grilled octopus, taro smoothie were also tasty. A great place to explore nightlife in Kaohsiung and Taiwanese dishes.

I honestly prefer this night market compared to the one near my hotel. It’s more spacious, cleaner, and has a wider variety of stalls — not just food but also clothes, souvenirs, and local crafts. The best part is it doesn’t have that strong food smell like the other one, so walking around feels much more pleasant.
Ayo C — Google review
So many food stalls to choose from! Enjoyed our time in this market. Had to go back to try other food and delicacies. Loved it! The night market you should include in your itinerary esp if you’re a foodie.

It’s OK, not great. I’m glad I came, but I don’t think I’ll be back. I had some chicken and rice, soup dumplings, which were not very soupy and some sweet pastry thing I don’t know the name of. We were here on the Thursday night and not all of the vendors were open. I feel like most of the food was premade, although it was fresh but just kept warm until someone asked for it and then they served it to you.
Tony L — Google review
The largest night market in Kaohsiung, Ruifeng is a must visit, bar none. It is located on a parking lot, in a similar style as those located in Tainan. Though half the size of the night markets of Tainan, Ruifeng is simply, the largest one in Kaohsiung. There is a wide variety of foods, specifically the seafood selection is awesome, with prices much lower than Taipei. We found some of the flavors to be fresh and the shellfish unbeatable. The density is rather high, as this is the only, parking lot oriented, night market in the city. There is also a wide variety of carnival games, darts, ring toss, airsoft, mahjong and arcade, in addition to some kiddy rides. As I travel throughout Taiwan, I have found at least three unique items at Ruifeng, which I have never encountered before.
Zong H — Google review
If night markets are the beating heart of Taiwan, then Ruifeng Night Market in Kaohsiung is its adrenaline rush. A dazzling chaos of sizzling grills, flashing signs, and hungry chatter — this night market is a flavor-packed playground for the soul. The moment I stepped into the crowd, the scent of fried chicken and grilled sugar hit me like a warm, greasy hug — and I knew I was home. First stop: the legendary fried chicken cutlet. Still crackling from the fryer, it came nestled in a grease-kissed paper pouch, golden and absurdly crispy. One bite and I was hooked. The crust had that perfect shatter, and inside, the chicken was juicy, steaming, and full of peppery, umami goodness. It’s the kind of snack that makes your hands greasy and your soul happy. But it wasn’t just about the savory hits. The real surprise came in dessert form — a cup of rolled ice cream, bright and cheerful, topped with whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, and a perfectly toasted marshmallow. It was creamy, playful, and slightly nostalgic — a dessert that didn’t take itself too seriously but still delivered on flavor. Every spoonful was a contrast of textures: cool rolls, fluffy cream, chewy ‘mallow. Street food turned into edible joy. Ruifeng isn’t just about what you eat — it’s how it makes you feel. It’s the laughter of locals squeezing past each other, the anticipation as food sizzles before your eyes, and that late-night energy where anything feels possible.

Very impressive rooftop inside Formosa MRT station. Lots of people take photos or shoot the video here. The overall decoration really attracts everyone. A beautiful station to visit just for the exhibit. Tip: there’s an hourly LED light show on the hour daily. The day we visited I wish there was someone to play the piano nearby.

I was told to make a stop at Formosa Boulevard Station—and I’m so glad I did! The "Dome of Light" inside the station is absolutely breathtaking. It’s the world’s largest glass art installation and the colors are incredible in person—photos don’t do it justice. Even though it’s just a train station, it feels more like an art gallery. It's a great (and free!) place to stop, snap some photos, and take in a bit of local culture. If you're in Kaohsiung, make sure this is on your list—it’s super easy to visit since it’s right on the main MRT line.

This has to be one of the most beautiful subway stations I've ever been to in my life! The lights are mesmerizing and there's a light show every evening. We got there at 7.15pm just in time for all the lights to be turned off and the boulevard was transformed into an interactive light show. Also, lots of people just come here to snap a photo and leave but do take some time to walk under the dome ceiling to take in the artwork inspired by horoscopes.

This place is overrated. Actually this should be your stop when taking MRT as a working station. Nothing to see much. Just decoration. Perched 70 meters above Kaohsiung Port and Sizihwan, the British Consulate at Takow is a historic brick building that once served as the first foreign consulate on Taiwanese soil. Built in 1865 following the Treaty of Peking, it offers visitors a glimpse into its past through wax figures and historical information. The compound includes the residence, consulate, and a scenic staircase leading to a panoramic view of the harbor.
Came here on a weekday and there was very little crowd. Entry fees cost NT99 per adult. The building is located on the small hill, expect a short hike up. The sea view on the hill top is nice, managed to take some photos.

There are hardly any places in the city more beautiful to enjoy tea and small delicacies served on a tiered stand in the evening sun. The sunset is spectacular, and the building itself is steeped in history. Guests are welcomed with a small sip of iced tea, a charming gesture. The gift shop recalls the Cotswolds in England, though with motifs ranging from The Little Prince to Chinese-inspired designs. The terrace facing west features five arcades, each with a table for three guests. When our group of five arrived, we were warmly received. However, we were told that two tables could not be moved together for reasons of monument preservation—even though the furniture was neither historic nor original. The more plausible explanation was economic: if two tables are taken by a group of five, another party cannot be seated. This reasoning, though understandable, still left a sense of arbitrariness. Things took a slightly absurd turn with the drinks: one of our group asked for the very iced tea that had been served at the entrance. We were told that this particular iced tea was only for outside sale and not available at the table—but we could order a different iced tea. When milk was requested for Darjeeling, the answer was that milk could only be ordered with beverages that already included it, but not separately for tea. At payment, the issue continued. The vouchers tied to our admission tickets could not be used in full—only three of them were valid, due to house policy. The running gag of the evening became our remark that everything “not possible” was simply prohibited by monument protection. The contrast between the friendliness of the staff and the rigid bureaucratic mindset denying the most ordinary requests was, after a while, a source of laughter, though also an annoyance.

Visit here twice but this time is different as most of the areas are closed or converted to dining area. Exhibition area is reduced to about 100 sq m. Even so, admission charge is required. Recommended if nowhere else to go.

This place absolutely deserves to be part of any visit plan to Kaohsiung. It was not crowded at all even on a holiday Sunday. The view from the hilltop of the old embassy complex is fantastic. One can see 270 degrees spanning from the main business downtown on the east, Cijin and its lighthouse to the south, and the National Sun Yet Sen University and Shoushan to the west. The second floor cafe serves very reasonable English teas, afternoon tea set and other food. Make sure to get a table in the balcony.

Set on top of a hill that has a beautiful view across the sea and surrounding coastline. The consulate itself isn't too big but is interesting for anyone looking into Taiwan's history. There's a tea shop at the back of the building that you get a discount for when paying to enter the consulate.
Steven P — Google review
Visited this place mainly to check out the view from the top, which is nice. Didn't feel that there was much to see in terms of the exhibits. So it felt that the entrance fee was mainly for the view.

There is so much history of the British in Kaohsiung. The site is well maintained, and the entrance ticket is very affordable. The views for the harbor, the NSYSU, and the city are astonishing. Around 2 pounds. It's definitely worth visiting. There are souvenirs stores and tea shops and restaurants for refreshment.

Built on a hill, so trekking is necessary. Get your umbrella ready especially if you're going here on a sunny day. There's an entrance fee (NTD150, if I remember it correctly), which I thought was high. The building itself, however, was such a sight. There's also a section where you can take in the beautiful city view. There's a cafe also, ideal for refreshments.

This mall is huge with multiple floors and an outdoor section connected to it with even more shops. The top floor has an arcade and game area, and there’s also a movie theater with a classy Art Deco design. The rooftop features a dinosaur-themed amusement park with a giant Ferris wheel, and there’s a connected parking structure. You can easily spend the whole day here, but the signage could be better — it’s easy to get lost and hard to find the right exit.
Mochaguy 2 — Google review
This is my favorite mall in Kaohsiung. Other than luxurious and high end brands/products, they have so much more local and inexpensive stores as well. It has 8 floors, first 4 are for men and women apparel and accessories goods. Fifth floor is for babies and kids. There’s also arcade game and funzone on the same floor. Top three floors have cinema hall and restaurants. Food court is at level B1. Within the mall they have different events and promotions going on. We got the promo for NT $300 back for every NT $3000 spent ($10 USD cashback on every $100 spent). There were local vendor shops in common areas of the mall. The commute is easy to the mall. There’s light rail and MTR train stations directly connected to it. It easily takes 2-3 hours to go through the whole mall floor by floor just to look around and window shop.

The love river is a vibrant and fun place to visit during the Dragon boat races. Many stalls are set up selling handcrafted items, food and other things. Of course, the only problem is the Dragon boat races are held in June and it is very hot. Walking from the Love Boat area all the way to the Heart of Love River was such an experience. I walked at night and there wasnt much to see really. However as the lights of the surrounding streets reflect over the river, it is a very beauitful sight. If you are lucky, you will see fireworks. I would say it is a really nice place to go for a stroll or jog in the morning or at night, but preferably during the cooler seasons because it is summer right now, so it is super hot.

This is an 85 level sky tower with a viewing deck on the 74th Floor. It is also a hotel and has a few shops, a bar and a restaurant. We stayed here and the room had an amazing view of the harbour (or city if you choose that option). Our room was on level 55. The room was spacious with a big marble bathroom all the necessary amenities. We made use of the gym and pool as well. You need a cap to use the pool Staff weren’t overly friendly, at check in they were efficient and ‘routine’. The staff helping to get cabs were the best. We appreciate our late check out of 1pm. The area is a short walk to the light rail which gets you to pier 2 easily. Walking distance to a station as well.

Impressive views over the city. For an observation deck, it would have been nice to have outside space. Windows bit dirty for taking proper photos. We'll worth the visit though when visiting the town as it gives you a good overview of the city.
Pavel O — Google review
The building was designed by C.Y Lee which has an unusual 'prong' design with two separate 39-floor sections, which merge into a single central tower rising to a spire. This unique design leaves a substantial space below the central part of the tower which was inspired by the first character of the city's name (高). Most observation windows in the building offers views over the Kaohsiung City, the Love River and the Kaohsiung Harbour.
James C — Google review
250nt/person to go up with the fast elevator that goes as fast as 600m per minute and the view at night is really nice though the windows are very dirty and the usual hazy skyline of Kaohsiung makes the visibility somewhat limited. they have a nice cafe serving food, hot and cold beverages including local Kaohsiung beer. on a Sunday evening there was hardly ten people.
Selçuk E — Google review
One of the best places you could imagine to watch the sunset, the building architecture is simply beautiful and the view amazing, going upstairs from the first floor took very little time because of the high speed elevator,(you should take a video once you get inside the elevator and before start going upstairs) , the best time to go is around 5pm so you can see the city during daytime and minutes later the night view, there are some volunteers whom are willing to explain to you about the city and the history of the places, they had an excellent english speaking person too, he was very kind and dedicated to what he do, the tickets are not as expensive as going to the Taipei 101, is around NTD 250 per person, but you also get a discount of of you bring your student ID card.
Gead B — Google review
160NT per person, and less if you show a student discount. Excellent 360 degree views of Kaoshiung. The observation deck wraps around the entire floor of the Tuntex Sky Tower. Ride the super fast elevator up to the 75th floor, then walk down to the 74th floor where the viewing room is. Elevator speeds reach 10 Meters / second. You can feel your ears pop as the mood lights change with the ride up. Downside - Some of the windows are covered in a clear film with little drawings on them to represent the city below. Tip for the tower - Either replace the film or peel it off completley. It is starting to bubble and wrinkle and causes the view below to appear murky and foggy. Can’t take photos out side those windows because the bubbles and wrinkles get in the way. Telescopes are available to use around all corners of the tower. Fun to put in a couple coins and play i-spy games. No open air access. Totally enclosed. There is a restaurant at the top that serves coffee and Haagen Dazs ice cream. Also a souvenir shop with tons of trinkets. A small arcade section including foosball. And galleries that include large-scale photos of the view below, butterfly exhibition and a Hello Kitty section.

No queue on weekday, we reached at about 11am and there were hardly anybody around. The crowd only came after 1pm or so, and I believe that depends on if there are school excursions. The performances are worth a watch and very engaging, the performers made it a point to invite audience to participate. There are rides suitable for all ages from young kids to bigger kids/adults. Do come prepared with raincoat if you want to ride the wet ride or u can purchase on the spot. Indoor virtual ball throwing games are quite fun and addictive, which serves us well as wet weather activity.

You need to be age appropriate to even consider going to this theme park. Tacky decor at best, poor imitation of Greece in every way. Rides are good for teenagers and below. Very limited food places within the park, best to walk out to the outlet mall. Took us a grand total of 30 mins to finish walking the park. It's totally not worth it if you are beyond 20 years old.

Great amusement to spend the day. Not too big, and most people usually go to the food court in the mall to eat, so thankfully re-entry is allowed via stamp. Saturday I think the park closes a little later then the weekdays, so there was also another show that was played outside. I can imagine during peak times this place will be packed, so enjoy it before it gets to that point. Best place would be more for couples or families.

The main show at 1:40pm at the large theater was awesome. The other shows are ok and are still worth watching. There are 2 crazy rides that are quite scary and only recommended for the strong-hearted. The other rides are ok and a bit slow. There are 2 water rides that will get you entirely wet, so be sure to bring a pair of slippers, and your own rain coat (or change of clothes). The indoor center had many paid activities which feels a bit of a rip-off and are not recommended at all. For the food, recommended to bring your own food both to save time and money. Overall still an awesome experience and well worth the ticket price IMHO.

Central Park in Kaohsiung is a vibrant urban oasis that serves as a popular gathering spot for both locals and visitors. This expansive green space features serene walking paths, a picturesque lake, and charming fountains, making it an ideal place to unwind amidst nature. While the park itself doesn’t host night markets, its proximity to bustling streets filled with food stalls and local crafts offers an authentic taste of Taiwanese culture just a short stroll away.
We visited this park seven years ago, and it's amazing to see how much it has changed since then. The efforts made by the government to develop and improve this park are commendable. The facilities are well maintained, and the environment feels more welcoming and vibrant. It's a perfect spot for families, friends, or anyone looking to relax and enjoy.

Good ambience... Its a great place to relax and take fresh air within the City. Its location was very nice for having a metro station.

Kaohsiung Central Park is more than just a park; it's a symbol of Kaohsiung's transformation into a modern, livable city that values green spaces. It successfully blends nature, art, and urban life, making it a must-visit destination for anyone in Kaohsiung. For Tourists: It's a perfect place to take a break from sightseeing, enjoy some green space, and get those iconic photos with the Rainbow Church and the city skyline. Its proximity to other major attractions makes it an easy stop.

Was told by the local this is probably the most beautiful MRT station in Taiwan. A small pet store is located inside the park. Numbers of artist performing in the park. Best place for family time with children.

Nothing much there but huge spaces, playground, water fountain. Nice to walk about during cooler weather. Peaceful.

Central Park is more than just a park — it is a landmark that reflects the city’s history. Even today, it showcases the resilience and spirit of the locals. From the artistic MRT entrance to the winding paths throughout, every visit is a true delight. Whenever I can, I come here to observe everyday life, and walking through the park feels like experiencing the passage of life itself.

Nice little park to sit and people watch. Shady bench seating. Public restrooms. Even found locals playing tennis on a clay court. First time seeing a clay court in person.

This is a nice park to walk through when you want to enjoy a bit of nature but not go on a hike. It was a rainy day though so that wasn’t as nice. The park is nice and spacious. I liked the lake and the bridge. I met a friendly pigeon that day and that was pleasant. It is a well presented park and the mrt station is basically at the end of the park depending on which direction you go in from. There is a cafe there as well which is cool.

Nestled within the picturesque Neiweipi Cultural Park, the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (KMFA) stands as a beacon of contemporary art and culture. This vibrant museum showcases an impressive array of sculptures, paintings, and calligraphy while also featuring beautifully landscaped gardens and a dedicated sculpture park. Mayor Chen Chi-mai emphasizes Kaohsiung's ambition to evolve into a cultural hub that seamlessly blends local creativity with international influences.
Don't go on a Monday! It's closed! Luckily got this tip from a local friend and so I went on Sunday and really enjoyed my visit. The museum itself is beautifully built and had a variety of exhibits when I visited. It wasn't overly crowded and the staff were all friendly and eager to help. There was always an English speaker nearby whenever needed. Plus, there was a cool little market with small businesses and artists outside the museum at the time of my visit.

The entire campus is quite peaceful and somewhat well kept. We were there on a weekday, so the crowd wasn't too bad. There was a group of school kids seemingly on their field trip that was making the museum 'lively'. There are three stories to view different types of art. Some are quite nice and some are well...unique. It's a nice place to bring the kids for a half day trip inside the art museum.
Jade C — Google review
exceptional museum! there were 3 exhibitions and all of them were super interesting. the pieces showcased there were all high quality, with no weaker works. I loved how each art piece was displayed in an unique way, emphasizing each artwork's colors. the curators really showed an amazing display of their skill with so many creative solutions. i'd spent 3 hours there and each minute was wonderful.

One of the best arts museum I visited in many countries. Nice place to walk around with many pieces of fine arts. Entrance fee is not expensive (180TWD per pax). I think the entry fee might vary regarding reach of exhibition period (I don’t think it will be much varied, but yeah, please check again before you visit) The museum composed of 4 floors for the gallery with plus 1 basement gallery. The atmosphere is very nice - bright, chill and clean. Recommend for everyone who love or not love in arts. You will have a very best moment and experiences here.

Great museum. 90 ntd for adults. Spacious, well maintained. Some temporary exhibition down the basement and on the third floor. Most of the artworks are modern ones. Some rooms are for local artists, which is super nice to see some aboriginal art. Also lots of green spaces around the museum. Can take the light rail to get here. Also a flea market nearby. Can spend half of your day in those neighborhood for sure

The architecture of the museum is simple, elegant, and spacious, creating a calm atmosphere that enhances the art-viewing experience. The museum has exhibitions spread across 4.5 floors, each featuring different types of artwork, with a strong focus on modern and contemporary art. The curation and presentation are thoughtful and well-executed, definitely worth taking your time to explore. The staff inside are friendly and helpful.

Heritage building
The Kaohsiung Museum of History is housed in a striking Imperial Crown–style building, known as Gaobo Hall. This historical monument was originally the site of the Kaohsiung City Government and has been preserved to showcase the city's rich heritage. The architecture reflects a blend of Japanese and Western styles, featuring traditional Japanese elements alongside modern design. The museum's interior exhibits a diverse collection of historical artifacts from the local area, offering visitors an immersive journey through Kaohsiung's past.
A fantastic experience and a great way to escape the summer heat and learn about the intriguing and dark history of Kaohsiung. The English audio guide is relatively inexpensive and allows you to immerse fully into the history of Kaohsiung and how integral it was in the Japanese war efforts in WW2. Highly recommend for both young and old!
Jonathan C — Google review
Pro: I love the architecture of the Japanese era building. I enjoyed the brief history animation of the city in the first room. English speakers may want to purchase the audio service or read the brochure outside of the cinema room. The landscape models of the harbor at different periods was educational. I wish they had said more about the martial law, 228 terror, the democratization but much of those displays were not in English. Recommended for the traveller seeking insight into Kaohsiung.
Matthias — Google review
It is important for us to learn from history, good or bad. Very proud of the Taiwanese government for doing this and allowing everyone to learn about 228, this specific piece of history, Democracy is good. The building itself is gold as well, Japanese Imperial style.

Free with a cheap audio guide. Lovely museum, not too big. The audio guide is a help, but sometimes too detailed and not very "fun". The quality of information is amazing, though.
Julien B — Google review
Not alot of readable info in English. Stop by only if you're in the area for the historic significance of the building and its artifacts. Or for some AC and to use the clean restrooms. Admission is free. Very clean and no crowds. Otherwise, skip it. You'll find way more info about Taiwan's rich history online.

We had a free day and decided to visit this place, and I’m glad we did. We had a wonderful time; there were lots to learn about Kaohsiung and how it came about. There were dynamic displays as well as innovative art sections. In addition, entrance is free! On the ground floor, there’s a souvenir shop.

Very nice museum that showcases the history of Kaoshiung or Takao as it was originally known as. The museum is set in this building which itself has quite a bit of history. Not going to provide any spoilers hence whoever that is in Kaoshiung, highly recommend this museum. Surprising that it is free admission hence worthy to travelling here. One will expect to spend at least 2 hours here going thru some artifacts as well as some interactive exhibits.

Located at the entrance of Kaohsiung Port, Hongmaogang Cultural Park is a waterfront complex that offers a glimpse into the area's rich history and culture. Originally a fishing village, it has been transformed into a cultural park with various attractions such as the Tower Restaurant housed in an old signal tower, the Settlement Exhibition Hall showcasing the port's history, an outdoor display area featuring vintage architecture, and a skywalk made from a former coal conveyor belt.
The weather in Kaohsiung that day was scorching hot. We can take a boat operated by Kaohsiung government to Hongmaogang Cultural Park or drive ourselves. There are a few place to escape from the fierce sunlight,it’s recommended to bring an umbrella to shade ourselves. Luckily, there is an air conditioned exhibition center presenting the story of this park, giving us a place to take a short break.

A nice place to go in the afternoon to enjoy a nice walk. There is beautiful harbour view and sunset. The park itself is not very big. Full of old stuffs that you can understand how people lived here decades ago. The only downside is that restaurant and shop staffs are unfriendly and without passion.

This place is ok, but the best part is the yacht ride. We got the yacht from Pier 2 on a Monday, it leaves at 3:40pm on weekdays at the moment (their website said 3pm but they said sometimes it changes so might want to call first). Got a round ticket as the shuttle bus to Xiaogang station doesn't run anymore on weekdays. Worth every cent (nt300 return). We got to see the entire length of the Port and got heaps of great photos. My parents loved it.

The traffic is not convenient on weekdays. Only by ferry or self driving. However the ferry have a guide to introduce the port of Kaohsiung history and development from 19 century, Japanese colonies to after world war II until now. However the ferry fee cost me around 560 NTW it is little bit expensive. I suggest go to there on weekend or public holidays because the traffic will more convenient and they have a package for the ferry and other sightseeing point

The library space is unique in so many ways - the rooftop garden offers incredible views of the city skyline. There are multiple books to read, work on your project, or just nap. There are exhibitions, activities, and all kinds of other things going on almost daily. It is an incredible space

I visited this library several times to gain inspiration since I am a librarian myself. It's an interesting building with a really nice rooftop. I am especially amazed by the beautiful exhibitions inside the library, they are done with so much care and seem very high quality. I can't tell much about the content since I don't understand chinese but it's a great place just to hangout. Some people seem to complain about the noise but when I was there it was really quiet. The modern library is supposed to be more of a community space than a quiet reading room anyways so I wouldn't mind it to be more lively either.

Motorscooter street parking seems very limited. It is indeed a beautiful building from the outside, but I'd rather not park far away and hike to the front door. There were adequate vacant handicapped automobile spaces near the front entry. Website does not say anything about public parking facilities.

Takao Railway Museum is a well-preserved site that features a freight office and waiting room dating back to 1908, along with outdoor displays of goods-train engines. The museum was formerly the Dagou Parking Lot, a train station during the Meiji era in Japan. It showcases the old station's appearance and houses the first railway information room, exhibiting railway bulletins from 1951 to present, as well as various railway books and materials.
The Takao Railway Museum in Kaohsiung is a charming destination for train lovers and history buffs. Housed in a former railway station, this small but well-preserved museum offers a glimpse into Taiwan’s rail history with vintage locomotives, old station equipment, and interactive exhibits. One of the highlights is the outdoor display of retired trains, where visitors can get up close to classic railway cars. The museum’s setting, with its nostalgic architecture and relaxed atmosphere, makes it a great spot for photography. While it’s not a large museum, it’s a perfect quick stop for those interested in trains or Taiwan’s transportation history.

Historic museum of Kaohsiung’s former busy port train station. There are three exhibit rooms, which have a multitude of artifacts on display, along with exterior decommissioned trains and a former trail rail yard . The interior is really interesting and includes items from former ticket date stamps to a blackboard with writing from over a hundred years old to items from the former Japanese garrison here. There are two friendly guides who help explain the history of the area. Public attractions / no tickets required.

A really nifty train museum. If you are a train fanatic, it is worth the trip. Keep in mind that they do not have a lot of English translation if you don't read Chinese.
Mark S — Google review
Really exciting place to visit. A lot of fun for kids and adults. Maket just perfect, you easily can spend an hour watching trains moving around. They offer VR video about the history, very interesting. Small train trip is a fun, especially to see big boys and girls on this tiny model. Great installations outside. Take combo ticket, much cheaper. The only regretful point is lacking of information in English, but most important parts are duplicated, so it's ok
Andrey M — Google review
If you are already in the neighborhood of this railway museum, then it's worthy of making a stop to stroll through this tiny older building. It has preserved the original room arrangement well, the wooden counter, the bookcases, the VIP seating area the maps & photos on the walls and bulletin boards as they were like some 90 years ago. Can you imaging many merchants and people from all walks of life hustling and bustling through this tiny railroad station? To further relive that old scenes, there are a few old engines stationed on few abandoned railroad tracks with a backdrop of a modern transit railway running through every once in a while. You couldn't hear the sharp and loud whistle from those antique locomotives anymore, in stead you are hearing a mild ding-dong bell sound from the transit train when they're coming and leaving the track side platform. I noticed visitors that came here didn't show much interest in inside the station, they hurried out through the door to the old train station platform. Using those old engines as the background in their selfies was their main attraction. Perhaps I was there alone, so I spent time browsing inside to see what this train museum has on display. There was a 20 minutes constant running video on the history of this station and its neighborhood that I found it very informative. Surprisingly enough that I found that the staff on duty have no idea as to how and why the port of Kaohsiung was given the name Takao (打狗港) many decades ago. Perhaps, next time when you stop by this railroad museum, which is just outside one of the subway exits at Sizihwan Station (a very strange English spelling), I suggest you to spend half an hour or so checking out their displays and watch that video before you go out to the back taking selfies.

Nestled in the vibrant city of Kaohsiung, the National Science and Technology Museum is a treasure trove for science enthusiasts and curious minds alike. This expansive museum boasts an impressive array of exhibits that span six floors, showcasing everything from Taiwan's industrial history to cutting-edge technology. Families will find plenty to engage young explorers with interactive displays designed to spark curiosity.
I’ve been here three times. It’s a great museum for all ages. There’s a lot of information about Taiwan’s history in technological innovation and scientific discoveries with the Industrial History of Taiwan being one of the most comprehensive exhibits. There’s also information about fashion, health, Typhoon Morakot, cooking, and many other topics. A couple of the exhibits are more information than artifact heavy such as the space one, but there are a lot of interactive activities which will keep kids occupied for hours. Several of those activities are interesting for adults, too! It’s been a couple years since I was last here, so while some exhibits have not changed, others have, and I look forward to seeing what’s new in the future.

It's a nice place to bring your kids. If you are a tourist and an adult then you can skip this place. Exhibition entry fees is 100ntd and for the 3d movie 150ntd. But yes it does tell you a lot about Taiwans industrial revolution and other achievements.

Recently visited the Teamlab interactive exhibition. Went on a weekday and was surprised to only see a handful of people there. Have been to the same exhibition by Teamlab in Tokyo. Whilst I was not expecting it to be the same level as Japan was disappointed that it was only two areas with a similar theme in both. Still an enjoyable family day out.

Nastassja K — Google review
This museum is very poorly arranged and looks very outdated. I was completely lost upon entering the museum. The first floor was a dead-end so I went to the 6th floor. A movie was showing there and it began by counting down, not from 2025, but from 2014, so you can imagine that the museum haven't updated that exhibition in 11 years. All the exhibitions were very very verbose and information dense, which is totally unhelpful for foreigners or kids. Several exhibits were completely in Chinese. Some of the translation are completely wrong. For example, "mankind" or "humans" is directly translated as men. There were large areas with clutters and several exhibits were completely closed (despite you paying). This place is technically a daycare center. If you are an adult, especially foreigner, avoid avoid avoid!
Tim N — Google review
Would not recommend for tourists, very empty with many exhibitions closed. Everything was very old and many interactive activities broken, it seems as it’s simply past its prime. Many areas are so dimly lit it feels like you shouldn’t be there. Not sure how this place is still open, weird vibes all around.

The National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts-Weiwuying, also known as Weiwuying, was originally a military training base but has been transformed into an impressive arts center. Spanning 14,000 square meters, it features four indoor performance halls and an outdoor amphitheater. The building's architecture is a sight to behold and even if you're not there for a specific exhibition or opera, it's worth visiting just to admire the structure.
Loved the story behind the architecture of this building. It's a massive structure and also very beautiful if you appreciate the idea and efforts undertaken to design and construct this magnificent building. The entry is free. I really love exploring the various music and concert halls inside. It's got a nice open park as well. Worth giving this place a visit if you are a tourist.
S S — Google review
Love this place. It’s modern, spacious, and really easy to walk around. The facilities are clean and well maintained. I went to see Les Miserables at the opera hall and truly enjoyed the experience. The sound system was great, the seats were comfortable, and the overall atmosphere felt professional yet welcoming. The building itself is beautiful and feels very open, almost like part of a park. It’s also super easy to get to since the MRT station is right next to it with no long walk at all. A perfect spot for performances, relaxing, or just spending a quiet afternoon exploring.

I had a extraordinary experience watching Shen Yun performing art here, gonna come back next year 👌😍 The location is good, right after getting out the MRT exit 6

What a nice place for concert hall and the price is not expensive comparing to your experience you will get from this place. It is such a nice architecture that you can hang around with many corner for photo taking apart from music experience.

Architecture and the whole atmosphere of this area is magnificent. However, went to opera house for a show today. Seatings are numbered in a unusual way, which is fine but staff might need to take some extra steps to guide the audiences to their seats. Half of the staff are super chill and didnt do the guidance work but just give you really simple instructions. Turned out so many people just kept walking in circles and couldnt find their seats, so chaotic.

Clothing wholesale market place
Shopping mall
Hou Yi Shopping District, located just a short walk from Kaohsiung Station, is a charming area filled with an array of stores offering everything from bags and clothes to shoes. While not all shops cater to individual customers, the district is still worth exploring for its unique atmosphere. One of the main draws of this shopping area is its Instagram-worthy appeal, with colorful umbrellas and lanterns hanging overhead. The district primarily runs along Anning Road, with additional lanes branching off in different directions.
The umbrellas are back! I went the week of Chinese New Year and managed to take a couple of good shots. It was too early in the day so not much else was going on.
Sevgi — Google review
A gathering of wholesalers, you can view but they don't always give you a try on. Most of the shops have unfriendly staff. Maybe they don't entertain walk-in customers. There's no public toilet nearby and the shop won't share their restroom. They don't even tell you where is the nearest one.
K. T — Google review
Umbrellas have been changed from solid colours to striped ones. Apparently they’re not retail shops but more wholesale stores. Tried to buy a piece of clothing but they rejected me because I wasn’t from a business. Still nice to admire the umbrellas on a sunny day
Terynn L — Google review
Umbrellas seem to be gone again! Not worth going to this street, unless there’s something you want to see in particular - the shops are mostly not the usual retail shops, so not suited for normal individual customers. There are better streets for clothing.
Weiq — Google review
This district only starts business at 11am. Shops do not allow trying of clothing even putting them without changing to try the cutting. Most of the sales personnel were unfriendly and some were rude. The nearest restroom is at the Mrt station under construction. Not worth checking out the street at all.

It’s very fun and exciting at weekend. Kaohsiung has warmer weather than Taipei and Taichung

Recommended visiting here in the evening.

The steep walk up is worth it as visitors are rewarded with stunning views of the city, sea, and mountains. This picturesque spot is renowned for its romantic ambiance, making it perfect for couples seeking a memorable place to capture special moments.
Decided to walk from City Suite ChenAi to the Shoushan LOVE lookout which is about 2kms. Start the journey up about 700m left, very pleasant casual stroll up. Breathtaking amazing views all corner and surprise guest appearances by some monkeys also. Up here literally can see the whole Kaohsiung city and there port area as well as cijin and Shoushan till the ChonShan University. Everyone should come up at least once, and if u are adventurous and enough time, there r lots of trail to explore the mountain further.

The overlook is fine, but the park area around it wasn’t kept well the day I visited, and the military road block around the corner was a little crusty for a tourist area.

The hall is large and the sound system is good. No wonder so many artists and concert organizers choose to host events here. Sitting in the front rows, the view is clear, and you're not far from the stage. The air conditioning was comfortable. Around the venue, there was a small market set up, and people were sitting by the river enjoying the view. The atmosphere was very nice.

Such a cool spot in Kaohsiung! 🎶 The place looks amazing — super modern with wave-shaped buildings and great lighting at night. I came here just to walk around and ended up staying longer because the vibe was so nice. You can chill by the water, take photos, or catch a concert if there’s one going on. The sound inside the main hall is awesome, and the whole area feels clean, open, and creative. It’s easy to get here by light rail too. Even if you’re not into concerts, it’s still worth visiting just for the view and atmosphere. Totally recommend checking it out! 🌊✨

Moon World Park is a unique destination in Tainan, featuring a peculiar Badlands landscape formed by years of erosion. While some areas may be closed for maintenance, visitors can still enjoy a relaxing walk with friends or kids and marvel at the Jurassic Park-like scenery.
Great place to visit with great views! Entrance is free, and there is a really nice lake in the park, good for photo taking. Really love the reflection of the waters and the high overview of the area as you follow the trail. Highly recommended if you are around the area!

The Tianliao Moon World Landscaping Park is a famous and real scenic spot in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It's known for its unique and dramatic "badlands" topography, which resembles the barren surface of the moon, hence the name "Moon World." The Tianliao Moon World Landscaping Park is a unique and must-see natural wonder in Kaohsiung. It offers a chance to witness a "lunar-like" landscape without any need for science fiction—it's a powerful display of natural geological forces. If you are interested in unique geology, a visit to Tianliao Moon World will be a memorable experience.

When visiting the park during the day, it is advisable to carry water bottles and umbrellas. The park's size is relatively modest, yet the surrounding mountains exhibit remarkable beauty. You'll find a public restroom and a 7-11 store right in the visitor center building for your convenience. And don't worry about parking – there's plenty of space available. Plus, there are loads of restaurants nearby to satisfy your hunger.

Kenting National Park is absolutely stunning, with unique geological formations that make it a truly special place. I was even lucky enough to spot a crab-eating mongoose during my visit! It is an Outlet shopping mall combined with leisure fun park. There are many rides from the bumper cars to racing circuit, from Circle wheel to Air Racers. It is. It crowded so there is almost no waiting needed But for some of the games, there is minimum height requirement of 110cm. The fun park is not huge but good enough for children to spend half a day. The mall has many brands like the usual Nike, adidas and the rest. On level 3, there is a big food court and many other restaurants option but you may have to queue during lunch hours. On the same level, there is amusement area that you can have all the games machines for children to play. All you need is to change tokens from the counters, coupon that you get could be exchanged for small gifts such as key chains, pencils etc. There are also children’s stroller for public and a Service Center in the mall to assist with your needs.

Very nice place for kids to play, it's all about driving and is good for 1 and up. The mall is OK, mostly American stores, so if you are from America, might not be worth it for the shopping. The kids toy store has mostly imported toys, extremely expensive according to American standards. But the whole place is extremely clean and the food is good. The sports area looks really good too. Overall, A good place to visit for half a day it is right next to the Kaohsiung MRT station. Everything is pretty expensive though.

Night market
Sprawling street market with food stands selling steamed dumplings, fried chicken & rice dishes.
Here's within stone throwing distance from Fongyi academy, so you can go both at once. Here's cheaper than Liuhe.
Hana M — Google review
Very few shops, not much choice. Worth the time if you are in the area. Fantastic bakery with sublime chocolate cookies.

Tiny and not very long. Not a lot of choices but cheap. Had 2 bowls of soup for 100 TWD ($3.40 USD) No tourists. No English. ChatGPT told me there were 500 food vendors… it was more like 30. Next to the orange MRT line at Fongshan.

Small street night market, have many local street food, hotpot is quite delicious. I like a bekary with traditional cake of Taiwan.

Old school night market. If you know, you know. If you want to know, get off the scooter, take a stroll, and try a few things. Remember to be patient, be courteous. If you are reading this review, you are most likely a foreigner and many of the cultures and traditions you may not understand. Just remember to be courteous and patient and people will return in kind.
Nexus Y — Google review
This is easily the best in fried food vendors. Huge turnover means everything is super fresh. Never greasy. A great value.
Brian A — Google review
Meh. It's okay. Small. Lots of scooters driving by. Not a pleasant walk because always dodging scooters.
