Restaurant
Birria de la 30 is a popular spot in Playa del Carmen known for its flavorful birria tacos and rich consomme. The small, unassuming restaurant offers a casual and authentic Mexican dining experience. Colorful menus drawn on wooden pallets greet you as you enter, followed by the enticing aroma of slow-cooked brisket. The juicy birria tacos are served with salsa, guacamole, onions, and cilantro, and are often enjoyed with a spoon.
I Love Birria Tacos and consume!! These guys know how to do it right. Their consume is rich, flavorful broth and really goes well with dipping quesa Birria Tacos. When you are in the PDC give them a try

1. The food is okay. I wonder why so many people it’s really that good but for me it’s just okay. 2.The salsa/ sauces are all exposed on the table. People are talking and sneezing so it’s so unhygienic that it doesn’t have any cover. 3. Servers don’t speak english. It’s hard to communicate and we need to use google app. 4. It’s too hot inside! It feels like you’re in the oven. The smoke from the grilling going in!
Home H — Google review
(JUNE 2025) Good tasting local Birria that we randomly found. Giving 4/5 stars because they didn't give us consome 🥹 Also, none of them we're able to communicate with us in English and our Spanish is very limited. CASH ONLY! I think they also accept USD cash. You'd have to ask. There's free street parking around the block. An OXXO right across, and a money exchange 2 blocks away if need be.
Kirk A — Google review
Small cozy restaurant, felt very intimate. It was super hot inside but the food was delicious! We got tacos con queso y 1/2 birria con carne. I have nothing else to say. It was definitely worth it.
Sheriff N — Google review
Found this place by accident years ago, and after all this time, they've remained as authentic as when I first tried their food. I visit for the dorado tacos and every time someone visits Playa, I absolutely bring them here. Truly authentic, very unique, and absolutely delicious
Laser S — Google review
Saw so many positive reviews and was harshly disappointed. The meat didn’t hold its shape anymore and tasted like canned tuna.
Andrea E — Google review
My favorite taco place in Playa del Carmen. I can’t honor it enough since they’re dishes are so simple, but complex at the same time. They fully serve only beef within their tacos, which I highly appreciate. Everything comes with a lot of different sauces and additions like pickled onions. Taste wise I can’t describe it and just encourage everyone to visit them yourself. Pricing is reasonable and even their homemade drinks are amazing.
Jannis T — Google review
So good. Very cheap delicious meal of various tacos. Lots of different sauces to dip in to add flavours. Highly recommend for some good authentic Mexican food!

Restaurant
El Fogon is a popular restaurant in Playa del Carmen, known for its delicious food and friendly staff. It's not a fine dining establishment, but it offers generous portions of tasty Mexican dishes. Visitors recommend trying the nachos, chicken fajita, and sirloin los alambres. The nachos come with a bean sauce that can make the chips soggy, so it's best to eat them quickly. The pineapple juice is refreshing and doesn't contain added sugars.
We probably ate here 4 times a week during our trip. El Fogon had the tastiest, simplest tacos I had in PDC. And although it gets busy, the staff is great, the service is quick, & the tacos are out of this world. A simple pollo taco and Modelo meal made all my days worth it! I’d 100% recommend.
Kenisha B — Google review
First stop in playa de Carmen was of course to eat tacos ! Our first experience with El Fogon was amazing , the tacos were awesome , the Chorizo tacos were the best chorizo taco’s we’ve tasted in Cancun, playa, or tulum ! You have to give those a try , service was fine and our server was awesome as well , plenty of street parking and fair/Average prices , would definitely be coming back !
Gabriel D — Google review
This location was on our way back from Chichen Itza. The food was good, we ordered nachos, chicken fajita, sirloin los alambres. Too much food, we packed 1/2 of the food and they included extra sides (cactus, cucumber, dips). Nachos are covered in a bean sauce which makes the chips soggy, so eat that quickly. Pineapple juice was refreshing (no added sugars). There was a server who kindly spoke and translated from the menu items to us in English. We left a 15% tip which they were very appreciative.
Sandy W — Google review
The place is very good, staff is friendly and attentive. Tacos al pastor are very tasty!

Located within walking distance from tourist-heavy areas, it provides a true taste of local taco culture with options like tripe, suadero, and chuleta. The no-frills setting and affordable prices make it an excellent choice for those seeking inexpensive yet flavorful Mexican cuisine.
Amazing place — tacos are 27 pesos each. We had 5 each and they were so good. Come here for no frills tacos.
Erich F — Google review
Delicious food and super fast service! Got a huge portion packed with meat for a really cheap price. Staff was friendly and quick, and the whole vibe felt super local—like the kind of place where people from around here actually eat. Just a great spot overall. Will definitely come back!
Manuel F — Google review
This is the best taqueria in all of PDC! If you are looking for authentic, Mexican tacos just like they are in CDMX, this is the place. The location itself could use an upgrade, but, don’t let the state of the space stop you from trying their delicious tacos. Under 25 pesos each; you can find your typical el pastor; campechano, bistec… but the best that you must try is their suaderò. It’s amazing! Smooth, flavourful and just delicious. Well done 👏
Jessica R — Google review
These were the least expensive tacos 23 MXN, and some of the best I’ve had! We had Pastor, my favorite, Asada, and Chorizo. The home made pico sauces were on point, Ice cold bebidas, great service, and local atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back.
Joshua P — Google review
Tacos were very good. The service was fast despite almost every table being in use. They had perfect condiments for the tacos such as multiple salsas, grilled onions, cilantro, salt. Without the condiments the meat can be somewhat bland. As soon as you add the condiments the taco goes from like a 5 out of 10 without condiments to like an 8 out of 10 with condiments.
Mark J — Google review
FAST service, good tacos I would rate it 8/10 and top 3 tacos in Playa. Affordable, oh yes, very cheap about 19 mxn pesos (about 1 USD). If you want authentic Mexican tacos and fast service, come here. I reco the suadero, chorizo, and pastor tacos!
Kevin J — Google review
Taquerias el Nero was on the top of my list for places to visit in the city. It was definitely worth the long walk over. We tried the tongue (lengua), cheek (cachete), pastor, chuleta (pork chop), tripe (tripa). All the tacos had their meats cooked very well and were very tender. The tongue, cheek, and tripe were our favorites. There were a good variety of salsas to choose from. This taco shop is one of the best we tried while in Playa del Carmen. I highly recommend making a stop here. To note, google maps says they open at 4pm but we had to wait until 4:45pm.

La Cochi Loka is a small, charming eatery located just steps away from the beach on Calle 10 Norte in Playa del Carmen. Specializing in cochinita pibil, a traditional Yucatan dish of slow-roasted pork with a blend of Yucatan spices, this place has become a favorite among locals and tourists alike. The menu features juicy and slightly sour pork served in tacos or tortas, accompanied by super spicy salsa for an extra kick.
Absolutely love this place, tacos are cheap and so frickin delicious, when we are back home in Canada we always bring up how damn tasty they make these delicious morsels of goodness 🌮🫶
RAYDEAN F — Google review
First day back in Mexico and we were craving tortas! We heard this place was good so we were excited to try it. We got there and weren’t greeted at all. We waited a bit at the counter and a local came up and they were served before us. I’m guessing they don’t like tourists. We debated on leaving after that but we were too hungry to look up another place to eat. Once he took our order he wasn’t kind at all. The food was decent. Good flavour but lacked something. I wouldn’t go back. They don’t like tourists and they make it know.
Nikki M — Google review
Location changed! It's just opposite of the old place. The food is amazing, came back to this place after 1.5 years, it's still as amazing as it was, price to quality is great. You can see a lot of locals eating here, which says a lot. Highly recommended!
Ewelina K — Google review
Wonderful! On our first day in Mexico we tried different tacos on the menu here. The service was fantastic, as everyone was sweet to us, quick + helpful when we needed some menu explanations! Will come back again 🙌🏻
Kim K — Google review
Excellent food, especially for the price! The cook is so sweet! Great first lunch in Playa Del Carmen!
Erin K — Google review
Quality of food and pricing is great. Each time I visited, there was a line to wait to order but ordering is quick so you will not have to wait long. There is limited seating outdoors (about 8 places) so expect to have to wait to be seated, or take your food elsewhere. We had a range of foods and each item was fantastic, especially for the price. We returned to eat here 3 times whilst we were in Playa del Carmen. I believe they are open 24 hours as well. I give this a 5 star because quality was great, delicious food, decent pricing, easy to locate, and we felt like returning (which we did).

Great rate of price and quality. Cochinita meat was ecxellent. I tasted better only at Merida. 5 stars

Don Sirloin, located on Avenida Constituyentes between Avenida 20 and 25, is renowned for serving the best tacos in Playa del Carmen. The restaurant's specialty lies in its sirloin tacos, which are highly recommended by visitors. Customers appreciate the fast service and reasonable prices at this establishment. Additionally, Don Sirloin offers a pleasant dining experience with friendly staff and a clean environment.
Most delicious local food in Playa del Carmen. We went the first time a bit uncertain, but with the first bite, we understood why there were so many people waiting to be seated. The service is fast, the staff is amazing and the food is... incredible. If you are around try it...
Sylvia P — Google review
we were looking to try tacos and local cuisine and many reviews said to try Don Sirloin so we decided to check it out. we ordered the nachos, guacamole and beef tacos. the tacos came with the meat grilled on one side and tortillas on the side. the tortillas were good, the meat plentiful, and the taste decent. the guacamole was good but the nachos were a bit of a let down. the previous day we had gone to a more local restaurant nearby and had a similar menu and their nachos were better overall nice ambiance and decent food with good serving size and good flavor
0504 T — Google review
Food was ok. They mixed up our order and gave us something we hadn’t ordered (sirloin instead of al pastor), which probably affected how much we enjoyed it. We did, however, get to try a taco al pastor, and it was delicious! I honestly think if we had received what we originally ordered, it would’ve been excellent. We also tried costras de pollo — not really our thing, but to be fair, it was our first time trying that dish. Overall: nice spot, moderate noise, and no wait time. The tacos al pastor are definitely the highlight.
Loreily A — Google review
It is a shame that being in Mexico we have only this kind of options. If you are looking for a good tacos unfortunately won't be here. The pastor and sirloin that they have on the "trompo" have an strong artificial flavor...meaning don't feel like fresh meat plus to much condiment. Is not bad but could be way better. The prices are ok! The ambient is nice. They are couple blocks away from 5th Ave and Av. Constituyentes.
Carlo M — Google review
This place has some of the best pastor tacos in town! We decided to give this place a shot after leaving El Fogon underwhelmed. Don Sirloin was so much better - more flavor and juicier!
Eddie H — Google review
The arrachera tacos were really good but the place is too hot so you can't enjoy your food.
Miguel K — Google review
I tried my first burrito here. It was very large and delicious. The waiters were friendly, the service was good. The only thing was the music was a little annoying. But overall, everything went well. Thank you.

Visitors can savor delicious tacos al pastor shaved right off the vertical meat spit, along with flank steak tacos and other Mexican favorites.
Just WOW. This, this right here, is why you come to Mexico! Absolutely outstanding food and service, and the atmosphere makes you feel like you're in Mexico! We ordered a whole slee of things to try and they were all great. The surprise star of the show for me was the pork chop on the House Special plate even though I am taco enthusiast. I can't believe I have never been here before but will definitely be back!!!

Delicious food. In the beginning we ordered water and they saw that we were foreigners so they tried to give us the expensive water. Other than that, the food was very good. I understand what the hype is about. We paid $408 for 10 tacos in total. I recommend the sirloin tacos.
Sheriff N — Google review
This place is Michelin rated in both 2024 and 2025. The absolute best Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten ate. Really nice staff, amazing food, generous portions, and really affordable. Highly recommend this place and it is on my "must return" list
Scott H — Google review
The Sirloin Taco and und Al Pastor Taco were amazing. Sirloin Beef is tender, finely cut and crispy, I had to reorder 3 times. My girlfriend called me a madman 😄 You get Pico de Gallo, spicy guac (muy rica), salsa and pickled chilies as a side. Highly recommend! Best sirloin and al pastor on our trip to Mexico so far! On the picture you can see „plain“ nachos, chorizo taco (red) and al pastor gringos „taco loco“ on the menu. Sadly no picture of sirloin taco. But be prepared that it can be a little foggy because of the grilling. We liked it because it built athmosphere!

No frills, delicious taco place. Very busy for good reason. Very reasonably priced and friendly staff. I would come back again.
Roxanne B — Google review
I came here based on a friend’s recommendation, and it definitely did not disappoint. The food was excellent and full of flavor. The waiter was attentive and provided great suggestions. The music was good, and the prices were very reasonable for Playa del Carmen. The portions were large and satisfying. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.
J F — Google review
El Fogón is hands down one of the best meals we had in Playa del Carmen. It’s just a short walk from the touristy Fifth Avenue, but it feels like a totally different vibe in the best way. Don’t let the location fool you, they treat you like a local the moment you walk in. They offer menus in both English and Spanish, and even when the place is packed (which it often is), the staff is super attentive and friendly. The service is quick, the energy is great, and the food? Absolutely delicious. Everything tasted authentic and full of flavor, this is the kind of place you go to when you want the real local experience. If you’re visiting Playa, do yourself a favor and walk a few blocks off Fifth Avenue. El Fogón is 100% worth it. I’d go back in a heartbeat.

Specializing in seafood tacos, the open-air eatery offers options like shrimp, marlin, crab, and fish tacos served on warm flour tortillas.
This was a recommendation by our host from Tulum. It was on the way back to the airport and did not disappoint. The marlin tacos were awesome as were the chips and fresh pico.
Mark F — Google review
This is one of those places you go to for a quick bite without over analyzing the food (kinda like fast food). The value was good for what you get, but I wasn’t particularly impressed with any single item on the menu. The crab meat unfortunately had bits of crab shell in it that almost chipped my teeth.
Abdullah — Google review
Went here 20yrs ago, so was hoping it was still good, unfortunately it was not what it was. They only take cash and exchange rate is lowered than other places. Waitress was ok but kind of nonchalant. The shrimp tacos tasted good but a bit greasy, seemed like grease was reused and I was right as it gave really bad food poisoning. Sad but can’t recommend.
Efrain G — Google review
Do yourself a favor and go to this delicious restaurant. You won't be disappointed. Fantastic food, great service, super friendly and best of all, great prices. All the tacos are yum yum. The fish and shrimp tacos are my favorite. All their ceviches is top notch as well as their seafood coctails. It may not look the best but the taste and salsas are delicious. Hit it up. Don't be scared.
West D — Google review
Very fast, super-casual seafood place right off the highway. Think Baja-style shrimp tacos, seafood coctels and ceviches -- and that's it. It's a plastic tables-and-chairs sort of place with a soundtrack of cars rushing by, but it's big and fast. I've never waited more than 2 minutes for a taco, and they're justifiably always busy. Definitely worth a stop if you need a quick meal while passing through Playa!
Joanna E — Google review
The server was so kind and helpful. Recommended something for my friend and she loved it. Chips were given right away and yummy. Lots of lime which I love. We got a little sample plate to taste and decide. I got 2 fish, 1 crab and 1 shrimp and they were delicious. Insanely affordable. Lots of sauces at the table. I’ll be back for sure.

An outdoor seafood taco place with a covered roof that caters to locals. Tacos, fish and shrimp lightly battered and fried. Very fair prices. Fast service. Easy and safe parking. Very good food and service. Great for a quick lunch in Playa.

The restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere away from the bustling 5th Avenue. Guests can savor delightful tostadas topped with various ingredients and choose from an array of taco options, including octopus and shrimp or steamed fish with cheese.
This is one of my favorite restaurants, only a few minutes walk from my condo in center of Playa del Carmen. I go here every time I’m in town. Good service and excellent food and drinks.

Overpriced for what they offer. The plates are small and expensive. A simple hamburger around USD16. Also, the drinks are a rip-off: a large 1-liter glass of margarita costs around USD20 but is mostly ice with some kind of sweet juice. The tequila is completely imperceptible. When I asked why it was so light, they told me it was to make the effect more noticeable. I don’t recommend it.

Place is really delicious. The vibe is easy going and casual, just what I was looking for. Had the grill shrimps and aguachile with black sauce. Washed it down with a soursop mojito. Both dishes were excellent. The location of this place is ideal as well. Close to the main hotels and Quinta Avenida. Would def come back. Spent $1300 mxd or roughly $64.

Fantastic food and service. The taste of the sea is right in your face. It’s a must try restaurant. You won’t be dissapointed

This place is located right on the strip and offers a great menu with lots of options. The steak here is skirt stake so don't be thinking your gonna get a nice thick cut. However the skirt steak was so flavorful and really hit the spot the tacos were good. The homemade chips and salsa was so fresh and delicious. Nice spot for a quick bit. Service was great and our food did not take long. Lots of action around to entertain you during the meal.

We just loved the food n the drinks in this restaurant. We were looking for a good n authentic Mexican seafood restaurant in the Playa del Carmen area. We chose this one seeing the reviews. We ordered spicy octopus (pollos), tasty crabs and rock n roll shrimp ( dynamite shrimps ). The quantity n the taste was really nice and the items were much cheaper compared to other similar restaurants in that area. I would definitely love to come back.

Highly accessible location. The service was kinda lazy and the food was good—the atmosphere was chill, nothing super memorable. I got the fish aguachile and got the basic sauce. Presentation was nice, good portion for the 1/2 portion. Clean flavors but nothing really stood out. I’d say it’s a little overpriced for what you get in the end.

The pulpo was just the best I’ve had—go & try it! (I had the pulpo asoleado). Also the shrimp aguachile tostadas were amazing!…as a family visit, we tried many other dishes—all of us were happy!!

Porfirio's Playa del Carmen is a stylish and lively restaurant located just a block away from the beach on the famous 5th avenue. The elegant open-sided salon with wicker chairs and hardwood tables sets the scene for an upmarket contemporary Mexican dining experience, complete with serenading mariachis. The extensive menu features both traditional and innovative Mexican cuisine, including favorites like tacos de canasta and molcajete mar y tierra.
Our family’s experience at Porfirio’s can only be described as epic. Not only did they accommodate 24 people, but the service, atmosphere, and quality of food was unmatched for such an event. The staff made the night truly special and catered to us perfectly. Please check them out; you’ll be happy you did!

Aside from the food, LOVE IT. It’s a really cool experience to be there. The staff are super nice. They move so fast! They’re also knowledgeable about the menu. Some old-school music videos from both Mexican and English music play on two screens in the background and set the vibe. There was a certain point that they had sparklers which was fun and they seem to make celebrations really special. So…4 out of the 5 people I was with had some stomach/lower body issues afterwards. We all ate here for dinner. I had steak and vegetables and was fine but others got some seafood and brisket. They had an interesting evening.
Lexy M — Google review
The staff were very attentive and friendly. But the food, unfortunately, was the worst meal I've had in Mexico. Steak appetizer was thinly sliced steak served raw with a hot rock. They did not mention I had to cook it myself. The meat was bland, flavorless and had not salt. The salad was covered in cheese and served with a chamois stick one usually finds in a margarita or michelada. The Old Fashioned was served with crushed ice, granulated sugar and a maraschino cherry, definitely not an authentic Old Fashioned for such an upscale restaurant. I do not recommend Porfirio. They could do better.

The service at Porfirio’s is exceptional! We felt spoiled by all the attention we received. The food is also delicious and the highlights for us were the El Sancho “Cowboy” Steak, the guacamole with cheese, the Porfirio fries. In the end our entire group loved everything we ordered. My daughter with celiac had an amazing meal as they understood which dishes could be made gluten free and were attentive to her needs. Special shout out for Esteban who was our server. He was Amazing!
Hani B — Google review
The food was just good the experience was good and the service very nice but they are a little bit pushing you to put a good review and even show QR code for you to put a review while still in the restaurant. I did not like that personally, and that is why I don't give them 5 stars.
Daniel T — Google review
We went here for our last night of our holiday ( it was an all inclusive) we didn’t book however we were fitted in immediately. We were seated & introduced to our server. This is now where I gave the atmosphere 4*’s: the music was so so loud that we couldn’t hear each other & we could NOT understand the waiters & our server! You literally could not hold a conversation! After managing to order we only waited a few mins and complimentary starter arrived again could not hear what the sauces were. Our food arrived after just a 10 min wait & I was given a bike with soft cheese in… I hadn’t order them… I was told to take a picture which I did & he took the bike away - they had ‘forgotten’ my order! These were complimentary! My husband ate his meal & I didn’t really want to eat the tacos as I wanted to be able to eat my meal. My husbands food was well presented & he said it was gorgeous, he ordered the salmon, grilled vegetables & cheesy spicy mash. When he had finished eating (nearly) mine arrived. Again it was well presented ( my tacos were pegged out on a washing line) & they were lovely however I had to ask for my refried beans, they had forgotten them aswell, this is why I have given the service 4* & not 5. We asked for the bill & it appears they told my husband that they had not charged for my meal - the staff knew the service I had received was not acceptable so at least I didn’t have to haggle with them about this & yeh accepted responsibility. It’s a shame about my experience as the food was really nice & the restaurant is worth a visit… just wish the music was a little quieter!

Everything about this place was great! We had a party of 10 and everyone enjoyed it! It feels like food with a show with all of the fun things they do to make your experience great! My buddy and I stop by here for some lunch while we were out and about on 5th avenue and without a doubt this was the best meal we had the entire time we were in Mexico. My buddy got the grilled octopus and I got the ribeye tacos. El Chuleton, located in a modest shopping plaza off 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen, is a must-visit for food enthusiasts seeking authentic and affordable Mexican cuisine. This hidden gem offers friendly service and freshly-made dishes, including mouthwatering tacos loaded with pastor, arrachera, chorizo, bacon chops, and more. The restaurant's creativity shines through its diverse menu featuring over ten soups and succulent grilled steaks.
The best tacos (and sauces) we’ve had in our 3 visits to Mexico!! We ended up going twice on our last day in Playa. Our servers Jenny y Jose (along w everyone else) were so friendly, helpful and hospitable…and this is coming from a couple that was in the service industry for decades. Very highly recommend!!

Good food and good service. We had a gringa de costilla and arrachera, Tacos de Bistec and pastor, and alambre de Chorizo artesanal. Also, we had agua natural of Jamaica, horchata, and lemonade. I realized later that I was charged for a Ciel water that I actually exchanged for an agua natural. It was probably a mistake. We spent around $1,030 pesos, $55 us dlls.
Maggie F — Google review
Honestly it’s alright. I don’t remember this meal that well being extraordinary but it wasn’t bad. So it musta been alright. The steak tacos with cheese is probably what you’ll want to order. I tried both with and without and you gotta get the cheese fried on there. But the pastor tacos was disappointing.
Weston H — Google review
Delicious tacos. Very reasonable prices for the area. Staff was friendly and attentive. Menu was in English and in Spanish. Nice tree-lined outdoor patio. Music at a reasonable volume. Very clean. Probably the highest value meal I’ve had in PDC. Highly recommend.
Byron B — Google review
We ordered tacos with flank steak and al pastor, they were so good! The giant lemonades were also a hit. Very flavoursome and very reasonably priced. Staff were attentive and welcoming. Highly recommend 😊
Ellis B — Google review
We ordered just the tacos because I read how good they were. I would agree! All of our tacos were great...pastor, chicken, beef rib, and two different shrimp ones. The half guacamole was enough for two people to share if you are getting tacos. Also, we got the 1L passion fruit water to share. The reason I gave this restaurant four stars and not five is because the service was disappointing. It took over 30min for us to get the bill (which we did ask for in Spanish). There were only four other tables when we were there. I ultimately had to go up to ask a different server because I found ours eating in the back. Maybe this was a "one time" type of service experience, but it definitely left us with a bad impression.
Adam P — Google review
The guacomole and pastor tacos were amazing! We had the fried fish and it was really huge but needed more flavor. The mezcalito (I had tamarindo) was my favorite part of our meal. Luis (our server) was very attentive and saw to eveything. Thank you Luis!

Axiote Cocina de México is a renowned upscale restaurant in Playa del Carmen, known for its gourmet Yucatecan Maya dishes and traditional Mexican favorites. The open-plan kitchen and airy palm-roofed al fresco dining area create a welcoming atmosphere for guests. The menu features locally sourced natural ingredients, offering innovative plates with atypical elements such as ant eggs, beef tongue, rabbit, and duck.
Axiote Cocina de México is a fantastic spot for anyone who appreciates high-quality Mexican cuisine! The restaurant offers a great selection of food and drinks, with dishes that are both beautifully presented and full of authentic flavors. We had a lovely dinner here, enjoying the cochinita and the tuna, both of which were cooked to perfection. The desserts were also a great way to round off the meal. The service was friendly and attentive, making for a very pleasant dining experience. While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food makes it absolutely worth it. If you’re in Playa del Carmen and looking for a great place to enjoy refined Mexican flavors, Axiote is definitely a top choice!

The portions were unexpectedly small, but they were very tasty. The lemonades were good; a tad tart but I like that. The guacamole was delicious, but we wished there was more. However, overall, the food here was very good. The service was a little slow, but nice. Thank you!

The food is beautifully prepared and delicious, but the prices are extremely high, especially for wine. A nice spot for dinner if you’re not too concerned about the cost
Roy L — Google review
There are times when you encounter something so amazing in the most unexpected of places that you start questioning reality. An elevated haute cuisine desert was the experience of the day. At Axiote, this chocolate desert was amazing. Imagine a deconstructed brownie of fresh coco beans mixed with raw peanuts, honey and Lyncott cream, which could have been its own thing, but them top it with a Hydrogenated honey and orange foam and you get a desert so surreal that you can't help but laugh and cry with ever bite, because you realize it is one of the most exquisite experiences you will have in your life while fully understanding Proust's yearning for Madeleine. That was us tonight and we couldn't help but ask for a second serving, which was as exquisite as the first. And that was after an appetizer (Ha'Sikil P'ak) and main course (Terrina de Cerdo) that both deserve their own stories. Michelin gave it a bib gourmand award but in my book this desert alone requires its own trip.
Tristan L — Google review
Mexican restaurant recommended by the Michelin guide. Fancy menu. Prices are above average. We didn’t like some flavors . Some dishes were so spicy that there was no flavor at all. The tacos were frankly bad. There was one waiter and one bartender for the whole place. They tried of course, but their efforts were not enough. The ordered dishes and drinks waited endlessly while sitting on very uncomfortable hard chairs. Spoiled evening .
Dmitry K — Google review
Omg Nomz!!!!!!!! My friend recommended this restaurant since I was looking for dishes with insects. It also popped up as one of the best restaurants in the area. So we had to try it out. We ordered the guacamole with grasshoppers, it was very taster with a bit of smokey and sour taste from the grasshoppers. A must try, had their shrimp Mole and their duck tacos which were delish, and of course dessert which was very interesting, it was a savory cheesecake with tomatoes, olives, figs, edam cheese on top. It he flavors were interestingly well made and the cheesecake was very light. The vibes of this place was just the right kind! Not too pretentious. Very relaxing. Oh their drinks were interesting too and if you like mezcal they have some mezcal cocktails. Loved eating here.

Las Hijas de la Tostada is a contemporary seafood bar with playful turquoise interiors that offers modern and fun seafood dishes like tuna tataki, shrimp tartar, and grilled octopus. The star of the show is the tostada, a toasted tortilla topped with various seafood options. The restaurant also provides air conditioning and quick service. Customers praise the fresh and excellent food as well as the 2x1 drink offer.
Everything was fresh and EXCELLENT. Just be aware that the sign outside lists the restaurant in its original Spanish name “Las Hijas De La Tostadas” so do not look for a sign that says “The Daughters Of The Tostada” Air conditioning was nice. Food came out super quick, I was actually in shock. Drinks were delicious and were 2x1. Everything was great! We came on a Wednesday night for dinner.
Christine D — Google review
I believe this is a wonderful place for drinks and food, but unfortunately, the way it is managed leaves much to be desired. We are frequent visitors because the food here is exceptional. However, today’s experience was disappointing due to one issue: the music. It appeared that the bartender was also acting as the DJ, and the only genre being played outside was cumbia. We kindly requested a change in the music, but the response we received was that the selection was “very versatile.” Despite this, the music remained entirely within the same genre, making it clear that our feedback was either misunderstood or dismissed. As loyal customers who enjoy this establishment, it is disheartening to feel that our input was not valued. I hope this feedback is taken constructively to enhance the experience for all patrons in the future.

Food was below average but eatable. Many better places to have mariscos and tostadas in PDC at a more fair price. But the service was terrible. Asked three times for a sparkling water and twice for a fork. Never got the fork. Nor a smile for that sake.

Situated on Calle 38 prettiest street to the beach in a tropical environment of palm trees and a stream what a lovely setting. Damien gave us time to get comfortably seated then asked if we wanted menus in Spanish or English . After just right amount of time he took our drink orders which were cold press coffee and a cold latte. He automatically brought cream and asked if we wanted sweetener rather than waiting for us to ask. This is when I knew I would do a review because his customer service was excellent, After placing our food orders he asked if we would like a plate of fresh fruit which told me he was trying to not only increase sales for the business owner but add something we would enjoy. I would have taken a photo of the fruit if we haven’t eaten it so fast. The chiliquilies with chicken had delicious green sauce and tender shredded moist chicken and the hot cakes were light as can be not heavy like many places. They gladly switched the honey to maple syrup when requested and the chocolate was a nice addition.

Despite its casual setting with plastic tables and chairs, the restaurant attracts locals and tourists alike with its tangy ceviche, shrimp cocktail, and whole fried mojarra fish. The menu focuses on fresh seafood, offering simple and straightforward dishes that highlight the freshness of the fish and local ingredients.
Delicious food, mainly fish and seafood. My wife had a mixed seafood soup with a lot of shrimps and pieces of octopus, while I took sea-bass filet garlic style, very tasty. We just loved the food and were happy to have chosen this restaurant which is always crowded - a good sign. Prices are a bit higher, the atmosphere is very nice, very local. Service is ok.

Were visiting on vacation. The restaurant was pretty close to town. Many of the inner town restaurants are either too expensive or very low quality food. This location was only a few blocks away from the main strip of attractions. It has a very local atmosphere. Quick to greet, quick to serve and very friendly staff. The prices are very affordable and well worth the money. Definitely will be coming back every vista.

I thought it was good. Mybpartner thought it was okay. We had the sea bass fillet and mixed seafood sopa, a beer and margarita. Fish was cooked well but the sides were so-so. The seafood soup was yummy, nice broth but rather small serving considering the price. Overall okay.

CASH ONLY *** Great food on the pricy side though but the fish was oh so fresh ! Side dish were really small but you can order extra for 70 pesos each item. Very tasty.

The quality of the food was great. Server tried to rip us off on the bill by increasing the price of certain items and charging us drinks twice. We were two people, one drink each, easy to calculate. No apology when called out. The quality of the food is well worth it for the price, but triple check your bill.
Lisa W — Google review
Found this place through youtubers "for the road" stating this place was USD 21 for 4 items. But perhaps that was covid time. We went there and saw the price was quite expensive so we asked if the spanish menu was the same price and it was. They really wanted us to try the fish. Took out 4 fishes and tagged the price on each. I chose one that was 440+ but when the bill came it was priced at 495. The total bill was 740 gor 2 non-alcoholic drinks, 1 guac and 1 fish portion. Food taste wise was ok. But we were disappointed because we were hoping for a local experience with local prices. We love hole in the wall experiences that are maybe family run or just people who are committed to authentic no fuss dining. And this fell short of our expectation. The little dishonesty regarding the fish price, and just the overall menu prices felt inauthentic and just like another tourist trap... hmm...
E S — Google review
I'm writing this so discerning readers can make up their own minds about eating here... I had a meal here within the week: Grilled snapper (small, left hungry), seafood soup, bottle of water. Cost without tip, 790 pesos, in what could best be described as a dive with no service. That night I had Italian at Trattoria Centro on 26th Street: Truffle risotto with salsiccia and mushrooms, negroni, glass of wine, 780 pesos. Lovely setting, fantastic and attentive servers. If you are a local, I'm sure you eat for 1/3 the price I paid at this place. Maybe less. For tourists? Might want to hang on to your money. Don't get me wrong, the food was not bad. However, eat at these two places I mention, compare for yourself, and decide how you want to spend your hard earned cash.

The bar offers classic tiki drinks like Mai Tai as well as signature cocktails such as the Freaky Tiki and the Shipwreck. Additionally, it hosts a lively Christmas party with unique holiday-themed cocktails and live music on Christmas Day.

We had early dinner here and there was just us having meals and 3 other guys having drinks. The dishes were really good and exceptionally presented with professional garnishings. We just didn't expect it, like poke not coming out how we know it usually from Hawaiian poke dishes. All good though, the guessing was a topic of conversation already. Our wait crew was also the bartender and was very friendly and tried to explain things as well as he can. Music was loud but not crazy loud like the one next door. It's hot out by the road, would be nice to have cooling fans with mist.

The food was good and the service was too. We came several months ago and it was spectacular we were in for lunch this time and dinner last. The first experience was spectacular (5 🌟) and that is why we came back. I'm not sure why it was not phenomenal this time, but give it a chance. July 2024.

We just had dinner over there it is a good place but.....there is always a but, they charge us two Stolichnaya that we did not ordered, our fault that we did not reviewed the bill, fortunately I tooked a photo of it and just checked a few minutes ago. We will not come back......it is a shame

delicious caldo de camaron and excellently prepared mahi mahi tostada. the octopus was tender and flavorful. better than the food, however, was the exceptional service. america was attentive and efficient, and christian was on of the nicest bussers i’ve encountered anywhere in the world. i ate way too much and have no regrets

I wish I would have taken more pictures. This place made the best hamburgers I’ve ever had in my entire life! I went there multiple times cause I couldn’t get enough. Also the octopus and the sea food is really amazing. My child loved the fish sticks. This location has a pool and a little play area for children. The vibe is very cool. Really a wonderful place and I will make sure to go back.

I can’t say enough about how incredible the food was! After five days in Playa, this restaurant easily had the best food I’d tasted. The ceviche was a perfect 10/10, the octopus was cooked to perfection, and the tacos were simply unforgettable. Highly recommend!✨

I stumbled over this place on my way to Centro Maya. The food is absolutely fantastic and the staff is extreme friendly. I’ll be in the area for a month and will definitely be back. Unfortunately, it seems like they are only open Saturday and Sunday otherwise I would go even more often. 🌮 😋👍

For the gringos. Order in the kitchen and get a number for your table. If you ordered a drink you will get a card that the water will use to know you have a drink and they will get it for you. The chilliqules were very good and enough for two the tostadas were really good also.

They offer a wide variety of pork styles for tacos. Each one is unique and delicious! I recommended mixing it up. Make sure you also take advantage of the popsicles and ice cream bars. My favorite was peanut encased in chocolate. They offer over 13 different kinds. The owner of this restaurant is very friendly and does a excellent job of explaining the variety that they offer. Newcomers! Please remember to pick up after yourselves!! It might feel weird but you have to take your dirty dishes to the cashier when you finish your meal, separate organic and inorganic waste and then settle your bill. Help keep PDC green and keep the prices low at this awesome restaurant. Don't know what to order? Try the "pollo empanizado" (pronounced "po-yo aim-pa-knee-saw-doe) and the "rajas" (pronounced "rah-hah's") the second one is a little spicy but not too bad. Enjoy!

Food and service was amazing for a brunch on a sunday morning. Place can get pretty busy but we were seated within 30minutes. This place has great fresh juice. I love the mango + Orange juice. I’ve had it twice now. On another occasion I ordered food but the food is probably more like a 4/5 stars, as it’s not as seasoned as I’d like. I LOVE the juice though and would definitely recommend. I know I’ll be back!

This is the best spot for smoothies in Playa! I found myself coming here almost every day for one. You can choose to sit and enjoy your drink or grab it to go. My waiter Jose was very kind and did an excellent job. The food was great and served without a long wait time. I had a ceviche mixto and a natural coconut which was cut after so I could eat the pulp. Loved it was cold and refreshing. Between the ceviche mixto and the Pacifico I definitely preferred the mixto that I ordered. Wouldn’t recommend the ceviche Pacifico. Tried it and wasn’t a big fan. But the normal ceviche mixto 5/5 stars taste was fresh and the portion was ok. The hostess at the entrance were kind as well. Arris and Lesly thanks Thanks Jose. Would definitely recommend

We were advised to come here from the lady from CHOCO-story. And she was right in a great place to get fresh seafood dishes. We ordered tacos with octopus, fish, and shrimp plus a Campechana. Been here multiple times over the years and was excited to visit again on my return to PDC. The food is really good and the restaurant is always busy. It's always a good sign to us when we see a restaurant filled with locals and this one was. We came very specifically to have Sinaloan style grilled fish and that's what we ordered. The fish didn't disappoint, it was exactly what we had hoped for. Which was a perfectly spiced and grilled grouper. It was served with grilled vegetables and rice. Everything had a delicious wood fire flavor, that we really enjoyed. This restaurant is a few blocks west of 5th Ave, well worth the walk to avoid the inflated tourist prices and enjoy quality local seafood.

The seafood here is unbelievably fresh, and every dish we tried was bursting with flavor. I started with their signature fish ceviche, which was a perfect balance of zesty lime, crisp cucumber, cilantro, and just the right touch of spice-no tomatoes, which I appreciated for an authentic experience.

My first day in Playa 3 years ago this was the first place I ate and loved it! Fast forward 3 years and my last day in Playa I ate here at the bar and loved it. The food here is authentic, very traditional Mexican food raised a couple of notches. Amazing experience and delicious food! Staff was so kind and they have an entire vegan menu which has been hard for my girlfriend to find here (bonus: queer friendly!). Our waiter spoke very good English and had the best recommendations. We came back with friends a few days later for lunch and our taxi’s card reader wasn’t working. Excellent restaurant off 5th Avenue. Chill vibe, with Cenotes and stream in the garden...with a few fish and a racoon! The beef tenderloin was excellent, as was the accompanying chip & dips. The good was great, just as other reviews described. I had the fish dinner entree and it was smothered with caramelized onions and peppers, tomato and avocado. I highly recommend. Manny people rave about their tuna steak, but my wife and I didn't like that as much as the pescado estilo tikin xic (fish dish). The atmosphere was rustic and open, as of in the jungle. The live music from across the street was great but loud and drowned out what little music this restaurant had.

Asadero el Pollo, located on the corner of 2nd and 15th just north of the local bus depot, is a humble restaurant that specializes in serving succulent roasted chicken cooked over charcoal. Despite its unassuming appearance with chainlink fencing walls, this eatery offers a delightful open-air dining experience. The menu features their signature BBQ chicken with special spices, accompanied by sides such as tortillas, salsa, rice, pickled onions, roast potatoes and re-fried beans.
The grilled chicken is well-flavored. The pickled onion complemented the dish. Affordable price and great service. For 170 Mexican pesos we enjoyed one whole chicken with sides of rice, salsa and tortilla. We will definitely come back!
Auryll D — Google review
Out on one of our adventures shopping and mingling. My wife got a whiff of something being open roasted and insisted we follow her nose about the neighborhood to find what she smelled. Sure enough, off the strip was this open roasted chicken joint that satisfied our hunger for delicious fresh made food. I’d go back anytime again as the chicken was juicy, hot and fresh along with pickled onions, rice, salsa and fresh tortillas. Thumbs up!
TheBigBandWolf — Google review
I’m like Toucan Sam — I follow my nose, and that’s exactly what led me here. You can literally catch the mouthwatering aroma of this place from blocks away, depending on where you’re standing. It’s one of those spots that calls you in before you even see the sign. This is local food at its finest — no frills, just simple, honest cooking that focuses on doing one thing really well: broiled chicken. The menu is limited, but that’s part of the charm. They stick to what they know and execute it perfectly. The chicken was juicy, tender, and full of flavor, cooked to that perfect point where the skin has a nice crisp but the meat stays moist. The sides are pretty straightforward, but a few stood out. While I wasn’t particularly impressed with the rice, the onions were a pleasant surprise — sweet, flavorful, and a great complement to the chicken. The potatoes with cheese sauce were another highlight — rich, creamy, and perfectly seasoned. And then there’s the house sauce — a serious warning here: it’s super spicy and not for the faint of heart. But if you enjoy a good kick, it’s an excellent addition that takes the flavors up a notch. Pro tips before you go: • Best time to visit is between 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM for quicker seating and a more relaxed experience. • Parking is available behind the building, which makes things easier. • They close early — 6 PM sharp, so make sure to plan your visit accordingly. • Cash only — no cards accepted, so bring some cash and small bills. The vibe here is very casual, more of a “come in, eat, and enjoy” kind of spot — no fancy atmosphere, just great food that locals have loved for years. If you’re looking for an authentic local experience with delicious broiled chicken and no unnecessary bells and whistles, this place is definitely worth a stop.
Christian R — Google review
Great experience and fantastic chicken. The place is a no frills joint that does chicken and they do it well at an amazing price. We had the 1/2 chicken dinner and it was more than enough for the 2 of us and for 90 pesos one of the best deals in Playa. The service wasn't the friendliest around.

Yummy. Great healthy meal for a most reasonable price! Staff was extra patient with our Spanish!! 😎 It was pouring rain and they had no issue with us waiting it out🥰

Great place if you're after economic friendly option that's not too far from the main street. The chicken, rice, sauce and onion is a perfect combo. All for 120 MXN. You get served very quickly and the portions are really big. Half chicken is enough for 1 person. Price: Whole chicken 150 MXN. Half chicken 120 MXN.

Cocina de Autor, located at the Grand Velas in Riviera Maya, is an offshoot of the renowned Biko restaurant in Mexico City. Founded by chefs Bruno Oteiza and Mikel Alonso, it has garnered attention for its innovative approach to Mexican cuisine. The restaurant offers a high-end dining experience with exceptional food and impeccable service. The menu features creative dishes based on olives and Spanish olive oil, showcasing a blend of traditional and new flavors.
I came here with my boyfriend for a special dinner while traveling. This restaurant had just received a Michelin award so we were super excited to give it a try. To get ahead of a big question, yes you can dine here even if you're not staying at the hotel but it's very annoying to make a reservation and requires a lot of weird hoop jumping. It's also pretty much impossible to find costs online. I didn't see an itemized receipt but basically it's about $300 USD/$5KMXN a person, without drinks. We opted for a very very very nice bottle of wine which was another $300 USD. If you can, come and do the wine pairing. We couldn't because of dietary limits which is why we opted for the bottle. The food was really lovely. I've included pictures of some of the standout courses. They also did a wonderful job working around our allergies including my gluten free needs. The service was incredible. The sommelier in particular was a real pleasure, and our servers were great as well. A wonderful staff across the board. After dinner we had a cocktail at the connected cocktail bar and enjoyed the view from the veranda. Highly recommend if you're looking for a special celebration dinner in Playa del Carmen.
Liz M — Google review
The Michelin star restaurant at the Grand Velas Resort on Riviera Maya is beautiful and grand. The vaulted ceilings give the appropriate cathedral like setting for the dishes served in a hushed dining room by servers working in concert to transport place and reveal the dishes with dramatic flair. The explanations of the ingredients and composition and process to consume and enjoy the dishes seemed fun and engaging as they should. The multiple courses and wine/cocktail pairings were great and the same drinks can also be enjoyed at the adjacent skybar which I wish more restaurants would do. I would wholeheartedly recommend this for a couple or family if everyone can appreciate fine dining.

We had a birthday and an anniversary to celebrate during our trip to Yucatán, so I booked one the few Michelin-starred restaurants on the Mayan riviera. Let's be clear, it's located in a resort, it is marketed for US tourists, and it's expensive (same prices as Paris 1*). But the experience is worth it: a myriad of dishes that mix Mexican and European influences, paired with Mexican wines that we would never find by ourselves. Highlights: the hamachi fish and the huitlacoche mushroom dish. The service is extremely professional and friendly, on par with what you expect at this 1* level. Funny that we were seated on the same bench and not face to face: first time I see this, and although surprising at first, it allows both of us to watch the room and the service experience.
Olivier J — Google review
This place was extraordinary! It's very difficult to keep my date entertained for 2 hours, and the view and cuisine here helped me to do so. I was questioning whether there would be sufficient Mexican flavors, and there were. The prices were on the low end for the quality, and the experience was unforgettable: we were there for the sunset.

This was my second time dining at this resturant and I was blown away each time. The service is incredible the staff is extremly attentive and knowledgable. They were able to accomodate my gluten sensitivity with every course making modifications and subsitution, but it didn't look any different then the normal dishes. The creativity in the dishes is next level and the chefs pay such close attention to detail. It is a gorgeous resturant and definietly deserves their Michilen Star.
Zoe L — Google review
One of the fantastic and unique culinary experiences you can have. We got a 12 dishes tasting menu. Each was perfectly decorated by the chef and paired with a drink. Staff explained the name of the dishes and some main ingredient with great passion. Some foods would explode in the mouth, and you could taste the complexity of the dish. If you have any restriction or even you don’t like any ingredients, they could make another dish just for you. If you like any dishes don’t hesitate to ask for more, they will say yes :)

Taqueria Gomez is a popular spot in Playa del Carmen known for its unique and diverse selection of tacos. While they offer traditional flavors like sirloin and al pastor, they are also famous for their more adventurous options such as tripe and other organ meats. The prices are incredibly affordable, with each taco costing just 15 pesos. The late-night hours and free street parking make it convenient for those craving tacos at night.
Really good tacos with nice staff, quick service and good price!

The people posting bad reviews are just wrong. This place was recommended to me by a local while I was living in Playa, and in my opinion, it's one of the best taquerias in a tourist town not known for authentic Mexican food. The meat is fresh and I've never gotten "stomach problems" from my takeout, which is an important consideration for a gringo in Mexico. I still visit whenever I'm in Playa for vacation. No English here, so speak Spanish or download Google Translate. Cash only.

BARBACOA EL BORREGO LOCO is a local gem known for its slow-cooked, fall-apart meat prepared in the barbacoa style. The menu is limited but features standout items like lamb tacos and excellent soup. This hole-in-the-wall spot attracts crowds, especially on weekends when people flock here for the renowned lamb tacos.
One of the best sheep tacos and quesobirria I ever tried. The service is excellent, the location is good and the prices are fair. The meat was delicious, tender and very tasty. Well recommended

Had to get out of the over priced under spiced disaster that is la Quinta area, so came into town and found this taco magic. Wow, what a flavor. They do lamb tacos barbacoa or Mixteco(red sauce) both were fantastic but the barbacoa was the absolutely higher level taco. I Come to Mexico often and even at home eat tacos a couple times a week but these are some of the best tacos I have ever had. Don't let the modest hole in the wall exterior fool you, this is the place to Come have lunch. Super nice people and just fantastic, simple food. I am not kidding, it doesn't look like much but if you like solid meat tacos this is a must visit if you are in playa area.

Best barbacoa we have had in Playa! Making all tortillas great in front of you. Two people can get fruit waters and 4 tacos each for $10 then go shopping at Home Depot down the street 😀
Roberta S — Google review
Not only a great barbacoa joint out the beaten path but the owner roasts the food in a underground oven. We were lucky enough to have tried the tacos de barriga rellena....... so they take all the organ meat and place it in the stomach of the lamb and slow stew it underground for hours with amazing spices and dried chiles until fork tender. The result is an incredible flavored dish that goes well with tacos. Do not come here for a fancy restaurant (it is not, very simple), come here for the real Mexican flavor

I give this restaurant 5 stars for their food. I was hesitant to try it at first but I was finally pleasantly surprised. They have the best tacos in Playa hands down! Tacos al pastor and gringa al pastor were amazing. They also have a little salad bar included with various salsas, rice, beans, nopales (cactus), pico de gallo...which were very good. I tried the Jamica fresh water (hibiscus) and it was really good. They open at 5pm and close by 7am. Waiters didn't speak any English. It is my favourite taco restaurant in playa and I will definitely go back. I recommend this restaurant

The best pastor tacos I have found in the PDC! I keep trying other places, but I always end up wishing I had gone to El Sabor instead.

You can miss this driving or walking by because of the long table of self serve toppings for your tacos. What stands out are two toppings you don't see normally. An red rice that I think is cooked with achiote for the color and a chunky bean salsa that has an amazing flavor and no spice. The arranchero tacos we order were deliciously seared and tender. A must try while in playa del Carmen.

A friend brought me to Parrilleros to try Monterrey style tacos. I tried 2 different beef and one pork. I chose corn tortillas and you can have them natural or grilled. I’ve tried many different tacos in Mexico and Parrilleros are in the top 3. This is not a touristy place, the clientele is mostly upscale and local.

The meat at this place is incredible! The tortillas are basic, but the tacos are still amazing due to the meat. It is my favorite taco place in all of Playa. The tacos are small; I can eat five. 😂 The service staff is also super great. They have AC as well, which is a plus!

Visiting from Texas and if you know anything about Texas we don’t play about our bbq! This literally reminded me of a Sunday eating menudo barbacoa at my favorite restaurant home…if not better! La Vagabunda is one of my go-to spots for authentic Mexican and international cuisine, with a vibrant atmosphere and live music that make every visit enjoyable. The patio is great for relaxing, and one thing I really appreciate is that they don’t hassle you to come in like many other restaurants in the area. The service is friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and it’s nice to enjoy your meal without constant interruptions from street vendors. I've had plenty of Venezuelan food over the years and this place is right there with the best of them. Every item is made fresh to order and tastes wonderful. We were only in Playa for a week but I just had to stop by this restaurant a second time before we left. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu but the pabellón was my favorite. This probably one of the top 10 best things I've ever tasted. It's simple and fresh. It tastes delicious. The sauces are excellent and add great flavor. The juice is also delicious; freshly juice passion fruit. Next time I come to Quintana Roo, I will go out of my way to visit Playa del Carmen again just to eat here. The staff is also very friendly each time Ive been. If it's your first visit, they offer a sample of several of their beverages all which are great, but the passion fruit was my favorite. The restaurants is small, most of the tables are for 2 people with a few that will hold 4. I did see one night where two tables were pushed together for a larger group. I'd recommend a reservation for larger groups. I've come here during off and peak hours. Both have been pretty busy but I haven't had to wait for a table. However while I was eating dinner one night several people people had to wait.

After dining, the venue transforms into an exciting party spot with excellent service and great music. The atmosphere on 5th Avenue adds to the overall enjoyment of the experience.
We were in Playa Del Carmen and walked by Señor Frog's a few times. Several members of our party wanted to go, so we picked a night and got a table and had a great time! The food was much better than I would think from a chain, and everything that we had was delicious. The drinks were fun and tasty, and the atmosphere was definitely fun. The staff there work hard to make everything enjoyable for everyone. There are random folks that come around with different gimmicks (balloon animals, shots, etc), and there are impromptu competitive games as well as singing and dancing. Everyone in our party enjoyed themselves - to the point where we went back at least one more time during the week that we were on vacation.

I visited Señor Frogs in Playa del Carmen twice and had a blast both times! The staff were super friendly and full of energy, with fun events that made the atmosphere amazing. I didn’t expect much from the food, but the Blackened Fish Tacos were seriously delicious. The Jalapeño Poppers were also really tasty. Even when I just stopped by for a drink the second time, the vibe was just as fun — and the staff were just as kind. My husband accidentally spilled his drink, but they cleaned it up with a smile, joked to make us feel better, and even replaced it for free. So grateful for their kindness! I walked out of here with the worst feeling. Scammed. $75 for two drinks and two “shots” which are just mango juice, that the waiters added onto my tab without my consent. The two mango juice “shots” were $20!! And of course they make you pay it separately and right away, so you can’t complain. Awful food. This place exists exclusively to funnel money from Americans into their pockets, it’s a trap for tourists. This was truly the worst travel experience I have ever had, do not go here.

Aldea Corazón is a charming restaurant located in a bustling tourist area, offering a romantic garden setting with natural elements such as rocks and a cenote. The patio is surrounded by towering ceiba trees, creating the ambiance of being in the jungle. The menu features traditional Mayan dishes like fresh ceviche, mezcal and passion fruit cocktails, Sikil Pak tostadas, and other authentic Mexican cuisine.
Very cool ,romantic restaurant, inclosed by trees and flowing water. Built around a cenote. They have a little pathway where you can be surrounded by trees and explore the rocky cave like area of the flowing water. Great ambiance. Service was great. The food was average.

Interior overshadows the food 20.628420, -87.070834 Aldea Cenite Maya, formerly Aldea Corazón, offers a romantic garden with large trees, rocks and a natural pool for Mexican food with cocktails & beers. It is designed like a cenote, a natural pit or sinkhole, created when a collapse of limestone bedrock exposes groundwater. The music level was too high for a restaurant. In January 2025, we ordered risotto verde (M$400) with green rice, vegetables and Mennonite cheese (M$280) and added prawns (M$120). The food tasted good, but not particularly memorable. Service was slow. Aldea Cenote Maya offers an interesting interior, not in line with the food.

This is such a cool spot! You'd never know from the road, but you walk in and it's a lush, tropical cenote setting to have a meal or drinks. Very relaxing and picturesque! So much greenery. Menu is great, prices are reasonable for being dead center is a major tourist area. Hidden gem!

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Playa del Carmen. The restaurant is so beautiful and the food and drinks were delicious. The service was excellent.

This place is absolutely lovely. It’s amazing to be surrounded by such a unique blend of jungle vibes and a cenote. The nighttime performance is truly captivating and adds to the overall experience. After a long day at the beach, it’s the perfect spot to unwind, relax, and enjoy some fantastic drinks. The ambiance is ideal for having a meal, engaging in good conversation, and just soaking in the atmosphere. I highly recommend visiting, especially in the evening when the magic of the place really shines through.

Great discovery while walking the pedestrian zone. They have a great terrace with a cenote in the backyard. The food was great, service impeccable and quick. Highly recommend.

The place is iconic even just on the lookout, at times you even forget you are in a restaurant, that's just the truth! The arrangements on the place are beautiful for a photo session as long as you desire it! It even has a small cenotenwithin their facilities!!! 🩵 The food was amazingly delicious, if anything it might've been a bit greasy but very well prepared and served, again tasting wise it was delicious. The crew was amazing, they would demonstrate appreciation towards anyone celebrating their birthday with Happy birthday song and a small desert, much appreciated in my opinion!!! All those compliments said, the place is very expensive specially if you consider the amount of food being served

We enjoyed our dinner here. We ate at 11 PM, and we’re thankful this place was still open for being as lovely as it is. The scenery inside the “cenote” section is very enchanting. We shared two appetizers amongst ourselves, and we were surprised at the generosity of the portion sizes; I can only assume the main entrées were equally delicious and generous. The food was quite tasty, and the price was reasonable, considering the quality and location.

Taco restaurant
El Fogón is a lively 2-story restaurant known for its slow-roasted pork tacos, pozole, and other meat-based dishes. With two convenient locations, it's a popular choice for both locals and tourists. The tantalizing aroma of sizzling meats on rotating spits greets early diners, featuring pineapple pork (tacos al pastor) and spicy beef options.
Food here was a joke & our server who i never got the name of was also brilliant. We was recommend here by locals & there were also only locals in here. The food was so tasty even though it didn't look great it tasted fantastic. The price paid was great too & we ended up paying less than £20 per person. Considering I had two drinks as seen by the size I think that's good going. I would be careful ordering a taco dish though as that's the price paid for one, so make sure you order a few! The potatoes dish is a jacket potato loaded. So don't expect loaded fries. Definitely recommend eating local cuisine here. & continues to hit my opinion, if it looks bad from the outside, it never is, it's probably better than the shiny looking place.

After having this place recommended by two separate taxi drivers we decided to give it a try. A true locals place with legitimate great atmosphere we could not have been more pleased. We were delighted to see that it is a Michelin rated restaurant in 2024 but two months ago they received a new recommendation for 2025. The prices are super reasonable and the quality is excellent in both service and food..... Gents: Warning. The toilet (water closet) does not have a seat. Ladies: while we were there, being a naturally curious person I took time to check the ladies room and you are awarded a seat! I was with my wife and son's girlfriend who actually asked me to check the conditions. Both restrooms were actually very clean so no real worries. Oh, and gents. We have a urinal...adding ammunition to the "seat up or seatl down dilemma. We will be returning. No doubt about it. You owe it to yourself to give it a try. Also NOTE. There is more than one location in town.

My wife and I originally came to this location when we were visiting Mexico on our Honeymoon back in 2009. Let me tell you, the food is still as delicious as it was then, and the atmosphere was great! Service is great, and the prices are well below what you would think you might pay for the quality of the food. My wife and I ordered an appetizer, two meals, and two beers for under $30! Highly recommend El Fogon and this location!

We were hungry and tired from a day exploring and were surprised to see this place hopping at 10 on a Monday night. It's really a fun place with live music, but it was a bit loud and hot. No AC and not enough fans. The food was okay. Not as great as we expected given the crowds and cost. The service was slow. I'd go back if I was just with friends and looking for a lively place to dine.

Standouts - -Frijoles charrors con queso/-Beans with cheese. -Chorizo tacos con queso. -Tacos de sirloin Servers are quick, helpful and friendly. Caught a taxi out front. Would have loved to go back one more time before we left. We will be back! Gracias El Fogon!

The restaurant has limited seating inside but also offers outdoor seating on the curb. Customers appreciate the great value for money, friendly staff and quick service.
Best falafels and hummus I found in playa del Carmen. The falafel are crispy but bot drinched in oil and the hummus is very smooth and topped with tahini,

This place has delicious food, friendly and fast service, and a quaint view of the street perfect for scarfing down a delicious falafel sandwich. Their portions are so generous, even a half falafel pita (4 pieces of falafel) is filling and enough to keep you satiated and satisfied without feeling sleepy after. The food is flavorful, and their sauces, the perfect pairing.

This literally is a hole in the wall but it’s really good! Food is prepared per order, everything made from fresh ingredients. Unbelievable value, last time we were here two years ago and prices haven’t changed! Really laid back type of place with reggae music playing overhead and a breeze from a fan going through your hair… I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a wholesome vegetarian meal for a great price
Samira N — Google review
Amazing place for eating falafel as they make them freshly on the spot. Yes, the waiting times are longer, but for the fact of preparing everything freshly, it’s totally worth it. The falafel itself is crispy on the outside and tasty on the inside. In combination with their dishes, it’s a really perfect fit and definitely recommended to anyone who loves falafel. Since they have a very limited menu, it’s not possible to make a wrong choice. Definitely recommended if you’re around the area.

I had the falafel full plate and it was delicious, filling and reasonably priced. The stuff we're very friendly and fast with making the food. The falafels were crispy and freshly made, much nicer than some other places that microwave their falafels. I will definitely be going back.

El Hongo is a vibrant and eclectic restaurant located in Playa del Carmen, offering a diverse menu that includes breakfast, enchiladas, mole, and global cuisine. Situated on Calle 19 Sur between 80th and 85th Avenue, this hidden gem provides not only great food but also vegetarian options. It serves as a community center, art gallery, and sanctuary for the local children by offering free meals, language classes, and a safe space for them to gather.
The entrance to El Hongo is a little different when you walk up to the restaurant. There is no visible sign out front, but the sound of great music playing within lets you know you've arrived. The vibe is very chilled as well as the clientele, mostly local and Spanish. The menu is well laid out and everything we ate and drank was fresh and delicious. The unpretentious aura isn't for everyone, but it instantly became one of our favorites! Although it's a bit far for us to get to, we are excited to return. If you enjoy mole, this one is worth having!
JK B — Google review
A lot of people will talk about the food, and they should… the mole will change your life and the ‘green drink’ will soothe your soul. The recipes have been handed down from the grandmother, and her love of food and travel comes across the generations with each bite. But I want to add what a wonderful cause El Hongo is in helping neighborhood children have creative and expressive outlets, giving young minds a chance to run free rather than be enslaved to terrible circumstances. Ask your server what it was like during COVID, for example. All throughout the restaurant and the neighborhood are signs of these wonderfully creative young minds, all made possible from the restaurant. Of my entire trip, El Hongo hit my heart the hardest. Thank you.

La Bamba Jarocha is a local Veracruz-style restaurant located in the Playas Zazil-Ha neighborhood of Playa del Carmen. It's known for its generous seafood options, including seafood molcajete, coconut shrimp, oysters, and ceviche mixto tostada. The restaurant is popular among locals and offers an authentic Mexican dining experience. Despite not being in a touristy area, it's considered a favorite spot for seafood in Playa del Carmen.
Mexican style mariscos, some of the best in Playa. I was there on 3 occasions and each time the food was great, I tried ceviche, coctel de camaron and alambre. The place is very popular amongst locals and gets quite full around lunchtime. The staff is very friendly.

This restaurant serves dishes from Veracruz. I had the Seafood Molcajete and it did not disappoint! Exceptional flavour and an abundance of seafood, I’m really glad we stumbled on this spot. The servers were also friendly and eager to practice their English on us. Also pictured is my partner’s Coconut Shrimp.
Afton C — Google review
My experience at the establishment was regrettable and disappointing. Despite high recommendations, I encountered several issues, including being charged a tourist price and receiving subpar service. The lack of transparent pricing for menu items resulted in an unexpected and disproportionate bill of nearly $500 MXN, roughly $30 USD, for a single fried fish dish without additional sides. Comparable meals at Mexican restaurants in the United States cost significantly less. Moreover, the quality of the food did not align with the steep pricing. The fried fish lacked flavor and value, unlike similar dishes available elsewhere. Additionally, the highly touted specialties, such as the stone bowl seafood and soup, failed to impress. Excessive use of cheese detracted from the intended flavors, resulting in an unsatisfactory dining experience. Regrettably, my visit culminated in an unpleasant aftermath, as I experienced gastrointestinal discomfort for two consecutive days post-meal. Considering these factors, I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment to others.
HT L — Google review
Best seafood in Playa? Very well could be. That is definitely the best ceviche in all of Mexico if not North America! I had a shrimp and octopus mix. It's so fresh tastes right off the boat. The Guacamole was extremely delicious and the shrimp gooey cheese soup is packed with flavor. The servers are very attentive and friendly. EASILY Five Stars.

Was looking for a more local seafood restaurant away from the tourist trap restaurants. Our server was a little pushy and not the friendliest considering we speak Spanish I don’t think it was a “tourist” thing. The seafood was better than 5th avenue restaurants. Overall pricing was similar to everything else. Take it as you see fit. Shrimp cocktail was good, the aguachiles were delicious which I recommend. Didn’t like the garlic shrimp which was in a sweetish sauce and overall bland and boring. Shrimp tacos were also very bland, skip on those two dishes. Cards are accepted.
TexasRobman — Google review
Off the touristy path, this Mexican gem is as authentic as it gets. Was a 10 min/ $150 cab ride from our playa del Carmen hotel. Our waiter Rene was pleasant and helpful and though he spoke little English, he ensured we were well informed on all the menu choices. The ambiance, decor and music is local to the culture and no frills. The food was delicious. We ordered the grilled lobster which came with a side of rice, salad and mash potatoes. The seafood soup which came out steaming hot, and included mussels, shrimp, squid, crab etc. We also ordered a side of guacamole and sweet plantains. Everything was well flavored and seemed to be made with a lot of heart. The food however is on the pricier side. We paid $1299 altogether. We appreciated the authenticity and would suggest you give it a try!

If you find yourself in Playa del Carmen and are on the hunt for a culinary gem, look no further than Los Hijos Del Mar. This vibrant eatery specializes in an array of seafood delights, including tacos, ceviche, and their standout dish—tostadas. Each item on the menu is thoughtfully detailed with ingredients, making it easy to choose your favorites. The tostadas here are particularly noteworthy; they’re freshly fried and come with flour options that perfectly soak up all the delicious sauces.
Loved it ! Food was fresh , Beer was cold , Ambiance is on point. Had a fantastic time. The Shrimp tacos are the stars as the shrimp is fried to perfection. The fish tacos are good, but the shrimp are great. The Empazanidos are great for your taste buds too. Go Enjoy

In search of good local seafood restaurants, found this place with good review, so decided to order one taco and one tostada to try (shrimp and octopus fillings), but the seafood in both were overcooked, and overly seasoned! But, the service was great, the staffs were friendly. Good place to have a couple of beers and enjoy the vibes!!

In from Houston for vacation and was recommended Hijos Del Mar by a local. This is a seafood based tostaderia in the heart of Playa Del Carmen. When we walked in the place was jumping. The ambiance was chill, great and energetic wait staff. This was some of the freshest seafood I’ve ever had. The octopus was like butter in my mouth. The tacos were made fresh to order and the mezcal shots were smooth as silk. If you’re in PDC be it in town or at a nearby resort, head on over to Hijos Del Mar before your head home.

Muy buen lugar! Great place! We ended up eating all of the food so fast that I only have one picture 🤣🤣 We were lucky because it's just a couple blocks further so there's not as much traffic and they have tables available. Prices are reasonable, and the octopus was very tender. And the people were very friendly courteous and patient with us.

It was excellent the first time. I got the fried fish tacos which were amazing! The second time I brought a friend and ordered the same and it was disappointing to say the least. They just weren’t as tasty. It seems like the fish used was different. They barely put any sauce on the tacos. The service was great and the prices mediocre.
Wotiluv — Google review
Hijos del Mar is easily the best place in Playa to get seafood tostadas; the food is upscale in flavor and presentation but the prices are super reasonable. Some people might try to tell you that this place is comparable to a similarly named restaurant that has locations on 5th, but this simply isn't true: Hijos del Mar is run by the original guys and is the most delicious. Anyone else is just a pretender to their throne. Their Hawaiiana tuna tostada is my go-to dish, but the Camarón Roca and the Carnitas de Atún are also solid options if you want something a little heavier. Their fish & shrimp tacos are also quite good, though these are let down ever so slightly by the tortillas. I recently tried some dishes off of their Specialties menu and was blown away by how good they were; our table had a hard time deciding which was better: the fried shrimp stuffed with crab & cream cheese, or the shrimp in a creamy cheese sauce with bacon and corn. If you are really hungry, these are very hearty options that will not disappoint! I've been eating here ever since they opened and the quality of the food has stayed consistent and the prices have remained really affordable as well. The staff here are always very friendly and welcoming and service is fantastic. If you're craving Mexican seafood with a twist, look no further than Hijos del Mar! (Note: I think they only have menus in Spanish, which might be an issue for some diners, but most of the waiters do seem to be able to speak English so don't let that deter you.)

Hotel Xcaret México is an all-inclusive property with bright rooms and suites, offering 10 restaurants, 8 bars, and a spa. On the adults-only side of the lagoon, guests can enjoy a thrilling culinary adventure with various dining options including Yucatecan-Lebanese cuisine at Kibi-Kibi and upscale dining at Encanta.
This was the most amazingly beautiful resort we have ever been to! Cannot be compared to any other all inclusive. No detail is missed in design and decor and landscaping. Every pool is special and different. The lagoon flows through the resort, lots of beach areas, caves and unique swimming. Visually stunning. Great service and lots of top notch dining options. I would recommend to anyone and can't wait to return.

Pure. Paradise. ✨ From the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping straight into a postcard. The resort is absolutely stunning — every detail is gorgeous, every view looks like it belongs on a travel magazine cover, and the service is flawless. The spa? Heaven. The food? Out-of-this-world good. Every meal was an experience — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Whether we were relaxing in the pool, exploring the grounds, or floating into a bliss coma at the spa, it was unforgettable. This is one of those rare places that truly exceeds the hype. 10/10 would happily move in. 🏝️🌿

Beautiful resort — absolutely massive (you can easily get lost exploring)! The food overall was about 3/5, but room service was excellent (5/5) and housekeeping came daily, which we really appreciated. Communication with staff could be a bit tricky at times since we don’t speak Spanish. Several of the directional signs around the resort weren’t very clear, which made it hard to find certain places — locating Bio was especially tricky, and we had to ask multiple staff members for directions. After it rained, a large puddle of water would collect outside our room and wasn’t cleaned up for quite a while — I almost slipped there a few times, so that’s something to watch out for. The shuttle buses between the hotel and parks were super convenient — they run every 20 minutes and make getting around effortless. Our favorite restaurants were Teatro, Costeru, Bio, Xin Gao, and Tama-mon — all had great food and service. We also tried Mercado, Trajnera, La Xentral, and La Cantina. We didn’t enjoy the buffets as much (like Mercado) because most dishes weren’t clearly labeled as vegetarian, which made it harder to choose. Also, while the staff asked about our dietary restrictions at every restaurant, the buffet staff didn’t offer much guidance on which dishes to avoid. They simply noted our restrictions but didn’t assist further, which made dining a bit confusing. Tip: Email the resort before your trip to request a wishlist. It’s really helpful for reserving certain parks and restaurants in advance, as some of them require bookings.
R K — Google review
This was such an amazing experience! I have celiac disease and the staff is very knowledgeable and at every restaurant the first thing they ask is about allergies at the table. The waiters brought me special food when I asked for it and at every buffet if the person I spoke to wasn’t sure if it was gluten free they would bring the chef out from the kitchen. Great place for celiacs, great service and food and such an amazing place for families. We will be back!

It was a dream to visit this beautiful place( heaven on earth) But unfortunately didn’t go the way that I expected. I’m honestly shocked at how bad my experience was at this hotel, especially for the outrageous price they charge. I came expecting top-quality service and a relaxing stay, but instead I dealt with rude and unhelpful staff ( Manager) who clearly couldn’t care less about their guests. I asked for help, I was met with attitude or ignored completely. The whole experience was stressful and disappointing. For what they charge, this hotel should be offering exceptional service — not making guests feel like a burden. I’ve stayed at far cheaper places with much better hospitality. Save your money and book somewhere that actually values its guests. Overall, this hotel does not live up to its “luxury” reputation. food didn’t even taste good.

If everyone has a better option, choose another hotel! Hotel Xcaret México is expensive, not to mention the check-in process was extremely unpleasant. A short line took over half an hour to get through. So many front desk counters were open, yet the line barely moved. When it was finally my turn, I realized why! During check-in, the front desk staff told me that the room with two beds I had booked was no longer available and suggested I pay an extra $1,100 per night to upgrade to a room with a private pool. The problem is, the Swim Up Garden Suite I originally chose was already an upgrade costing over $900, and it was something the kids would love. The front desk insisted there were no available rooms. After about half an hour of back-and-forth, my husband looked up reviews online and then gave the staff a $20 tip. Miraculously, the room I had originally booked suddenly became available. If a $20 tip could solve the problem, why not just say so instead of wasting our precious time? Then came the luggage issue. Our family of four had only two suitcases, but the staff wouldn’t allow us to bring them to our hotel room ourselves. What followed was another two-hour wait in the room. Since the kids' swimwear was in the luggage, they couldn’t even go play in the water. We had to call repeatedly before our two suitcases finally showed up. Really disappointed.

So we planned this cancun vacation for months, we went with our three kids and stayed at Xcaret Mexico which is supposed to be kid friendly. To start we got there the first day friday and they just gave us a paper with our room number no one came to greet us and show us the way mind you this is supposed to be a 5 star hotel and the price is not cheap at least to have a guide around the hotel or to show you so we got lost for about 30 minutes in the crazy heat ,there are no signs or directions to the rooms. We went 2 days without water in our room to drink even though we called room service 2 times each day and the heat and humidity is really really bad over there . Then my husband’s phone got stolen on the Ride Xenses we have a tracker on his phone and it was half way to the other side of the city in less than an hour which is really weird. The room service never got our orders right always missing all the drinks or half our order of food. The hotel is supposed to be highly rated and kid friendly but theres caves around by the restaurants that have deep water and its not fenced off so you really need to watch your kids very well they cant just run around because theres deep water areas all around not fenced off. The hotel side that we stayed at is still being worked on so there was so many places that a bad accident can happen . They make you buy water shoes but when my husband was on the water slides with our son they told him to take them off and then he slipped coming down the stairs of the ride because the stairs are really slippery and they told him to remove the shoes that they are the ones that require them. Personally you can get better quality food, customer service and a better experience for your family elsewhere without paying so much money.. Theres a lot of people just trying to sell you on things there it’s supposed to be all inclusive but no food or drinks are included at the parks so you need to put some money somewhere if you get out the pools or beach and get thirsty or hungry especially going with kids. The hotel is not all inclusive out of your actual hotel all the parks are not included.

If you're exploring Playa del Carmen and craving a delightful mix of tacos, Señor Taco is the place to be. This charming little eatery stands out for its diverse menu that features both meat and seafood tacos, along with breakfast options. The experience here is all about customization; you can order your tacos individually and choose between flour or corn tortillas, each paired with a trio of salsas to elevate the flavors.
Cute cute little place near Portal Maya. Very humble restaurant with good prices and quality food and service. The tacos were delicious and the place was clean and the staff was friendly. Would come here again.

$25 CAD (MXN $365) for two massive burritos and bottled waters. Vegetarian options were really good and flavourful with the Habanero Salsa. The Pastor was quite flavourful as well. Restaurant was quaint and seemed quite authentic. Service was prompt and kind.

By far the best tacos in Playa Del Carmen! Everything is on point! Sweet and welcoming staff, excellent food and prices in the low end compared to most of the other touristic places around the city. The (non-alcoholic) Sangria tastes great.

Wonderful service, great tacos. Their shrimp tacos were our favorite in PDC, large shrimp, so yummy. Atmosphere was typical quick-stop taco place, but felt like there was a lot of care. Went back, got their shrimp fajitas, did not disappoint. 😍

These tacos are really good. Been here for quite some days in PDC and I like these the best and they have corn tortillas as an option and the fish tacos are really great (which means gluten free) Coming back. 5 + stars. I paid only 80 pesos. 😳

This small venue was very close to our accommodations so we visited for a quick lunch. The place just opened and the waitress was helpful in aiding us with our purchase. The tacos were reasonably priced and really good. My son didn’t enjoy his hamburger or fries. He probably should have stuck with tacos. You can’t go wrong with tacos at a place called taco. While I would definitely visit again, I would not go out of my way to visit. It was across the street from the Fives Downtown where we were staying. I hope you find this review helpful. If so, please give me a thumbs up.

One of the best and well priced taco places I've had during my one month of travels in Mexico. Their salsa de Morita (red sauce) is absolutely mind blowing, little spicy, smokey, and delicious. Give this place a try!

Quite simply the most genuine and authentic Mexican homemade food we had in our trip. Every dish we tried was packed with flavor—including the dessert. So good!

Chela de Playa is a unique taqueria in Playa del Carmen known for its innovative Mexican cuisine and its own craft beers on tap. The brewery produces Kolsch, IPA, and Porter beers that pair perfectly with their tacos. This chill lounge offers unique outdoor seating and has become a favorite spot to grab a beer. With an extensive selection of local brews on tap, it's a hidden gem for beer aficionados.
We love this place! Delicious craft beer and amazing food options. Perhaps the best torta I've ever had in my life! If you're a craft beer fan, add this to your list when visiting Playa del Carmen 🍻😋

Wow. My new favorite taco place. The atmosphere is absolutely enchanting. They have tables right next to a small cenote - water feature covered in hanging lights. The food / beer was amazing, and CHEAP. And if it’s busy, the taco place next door “Sanchez”is also great. I tell people: Sanchez is a louder, more modern glam taco place. But Chela is more chill and beer centric - not to mention more romantic.

The most hopping and tasty place on Calle 38. Samantha our waitress introduced our taste buds to some amazing marlin tacos and Camaro da rocas. We came for the beer and they delivered!!! Such tasty creations and great music !! Don’t pass this place while in PDC!

When you want a craft beer in PDC, come to this place! Lots of great brews to choose from of various styles. The staff there are all solid and knowledgeable about their craft. We had loads of fun having conversations about beer while enjoying the amazing atmosphere of their outdoor patio that kind of sits over a man made water hole. Most of the folks we chatted with at this spot were from different parts of the US

Grand Velas Riviera Maya is a luxurious, all-inclusive resort located just a short drive north of Playa del Carmen. The property boasts five pools and a beautiful beach area with plenty of seating options. Guests can indulge in the all-inclusive package at eight different restaurants, offering diverse culinary experiences including beachfront dining with stunning views, upscale Mexican cuisine, and international flavors. The resort offers three distinct experiences tailored for romantic getaways, family vacations, or relaxing retreats.
Our recent stay at Grand Velas was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we arrived, we were treated to world-class hospitality and attention to detail that elevated our entire experience. The food was absolutely amazing – every meal was a culinary masterpiece, whether we were dining at one of the gourmet restaurants or enjoying room service. The variety and quality exceeded our expectations, and the presentation was always flawless. What truly took our breath away were the views. Whether it was the oceanfront vistas from our suite or the stunning sunsets over the infinity pool, every moment felt like a postcard come to life. The grounds are impeccably maintained, adding to the serene and luxurious atmosphere. A huge part of what made our stay exceptional was the outstanding hospitality. Every member of the staff went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable and cared for. We especially want to recognize Stephen, our personal concierge, who went above and beyond to make our vacation unforgettable. From restaurant reservations to personalized touches in our room, Stephen anticipated our needs before we even voiced them. His warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail truly made us feel like VIPs. If you're looking for a luxury escape that combines incredible service, delicious cuisine, and breathtaking surroundings, Grand Velas is the place to be. We can’t wait to return!

Our experience was absolutely lovely. From the minute we checked in, we were treated so kindly and with so much attention. All of our cocktails were superior, dining was excellent, our concierge Francisco was amazing. We went to the spa and got deep tissue massages and facials & did the 80 minute water ceremony (included) I highly recommend. The cleanliness and little details throughout were so lovely.

My partner and I love staying here after we do business in Mexico City, a city that is just so cosmopolitan and cutting edge. If I die and go to heaven, I hope they serve Mexican food because I don't know, like this resort, you just can't not enjoy it with all smiles. The staff work well together, on top of all the details, I guess I'd say, they anticipate the needs of their guests before you even may ask.

We got back from 6 days at Grand Velas and it was exactly what the family needed. The hotel was clean and the amount of upkeep of the ground and all other areas was impressive. We were assigned a personal concierge, Dulce, and she was amazing. She managed to locate us every day at the resort and chat with us about how things were going. She was quick to answer any questions and give recommendations. Our kids loved the kids club (almost a little too much). It was hard to get them to spend time with us as all they wanted to do was to go to the kids club. Food was great and the service throughout the resort was incredible. The numerous touch points with guests, offering to take your plates to the table at Azul, the service at the pool, the service at the front desk and all the different areas was just top notch. It didn't miss. My wife did the massage at the spa and loved it as well. We had a very relaxing vacation with our kids and got some much needed time off!

This was a true 5 Star resort with all the fixings. The staff was eager to get drinks, food or anything to make you happy and your stay very pleasant. Everyone greets you on property. There are 3 resorts on the property, which are all accessible via free shuttle. Each one with a unique pool and restaurants. Our concierge was Francisco and he found us daily, at least once a day to make sure our needs were met. He was very attentive and helped with changing reservations at the eateries. It was our anniversary week and the resort made it very special. Can’t say enough good things.

This place is not your typical inclusive. The rooms, the grounds, pool area, the food and the service is like no other property we have stayed at. Gorgeous decor and food at all of the restaurants. The presentation on each plate was beautiful. We were very impressed by Service everywhere. At the pool- We had a fresh bucket of water, frozen drinks and food at all times. The waiters by the pool were exceptional. A big shout out to the pool waiters - Angel, Reuben and Humberto were incredible. Check out the Zen pool If you were looking for something that just feels so lush, beautiful and very relaxing. Gabriel at the Zen pool was fantastic as well Our favourite restaurants for dinner was Piaf and Frida Every person this resort went above and beyond to be kind and helpful This is our third trip to this resort and we cannot wait to return again

The service literally could not be better. They try so hard to accommodate every need and desire. They go above and beyond and are so kind in doing so. Our concierge, Francisco, was amazing. Every single person was friendly and stopped today hello. Great for families. Great pool and poolside service. Great cocktails especially for an all-inclusive. Large rooms very clean. Would highly recommend.

We have been vacationing at Grand Velas Riviera Maya with our family since 2019 and love returning to familiar faces! The resort truly feels like a second home when everyone remembers the kids, their hobbies, our names, favorite foods and drinks, etc. My boys look forward to visiting Nicholas in the Teens Club and loved the new renovation with the addition of the ping pong and pool tables. We were happy to see Nancy again in Azul and her attention to detail is amazing. She really goes the extra mile for us on every trip! Carolina and Sofia surprised us with birthday balloons for my father and a bubble bath decorated for my son's favorite character, Mario! They looked for ways to make each day special for us. The property is beautiful, the food gourmet, but it is the impeccable customer service that keeps us coming back every year! Looking forward to our next visit and excited to see the second floor addition to the Teens Club then!

Nativo is a popular restaurant and juice bar with three different locations in Playa. Known for its thatched palapa roof and colorful sign, it offers a variety of breakfast options including omelettes, chilaquiles verdes, fruit smoothies, fresh fruit plates, and homemade classics. The restaurant is famous for its refreshing fruit juices and jumbo smoothies at affordable prices. One of their popular juice blends is the Alma Grande made from chaya, pineapple, and orange.
The place is great! I've visited with Mexican friends as a very large group (10 people) and with non-Mexican friends and in all cases the service was great. Juices are awesome, I tried so many and enjoyed each one. Food is tasty and the selection is good. Prices are nice. Atmosphere is fun - they have tables inside and few meters to the left - outside garden ( with fans to keep you cool). They also have "to go" option, they split the bill and accept cards and cash. I totally recommend this place.

Excellent value. Authentic Mexican food. The amount of food you get is more than expected. Be careful when ordering. A soup and a sandwich is a massive amount to eat. The smoothies are excellent! Mostly locals in this restaurant and very little English spoken (English menu is available). They have a seafood restaurant next door but we didn't try it.

Excellent price and quality. There are two restaurants, nearly next door to each other that belong to the same owner. We went to the fish restaurant. The best shrimp tacos in Playa del Carmen! My tip are the tacos gubornator: shrimp tacos without the breading. The octopus was also super fresh and very well prepared. Gary was especially friendly, speaks fluent English and was extremely helpful. Thank you, Gary.

My husband and I were visiting. I ordered the tropical salad and my husband ordered the Panini sandwich which were supposed to come with 2 toppings in it. The salad was definitely tropical It just had too many fruits that came sliced and all chopped and they had to chop it myself. I got my salad first, and only 10 minutes. My husband received his sandwich without the toppings.. So we had to send it back. The manager was not pleased by that and gave us faces. Overall the experience was not good

The food is insanely good. Only dairy kosher restaurant as far as I know in the area. From everything I had ordered the shakshuka was out of this world. Highly recommend. Coffee was great but they didn’t have cups for the coffee each time I visited and I wouldn’t use their bathroom. Definitely recommend for breakfast and lunch.

Carnitas Teresita has carved out a special place in the hearts of food lovers, becoming a beloved fixture for those seeking authentic Mexican flavors. This charming eatery serves up an enticing array of dishes, including kastakan, buchy, chicharron, masiza, and blood sausage. Each weekend ritual involves indulging in their mouthwatering offerings paired with fresh diced onions, cilantro, and salsa aguacate. The experience is undeniably rich and satisfying—perhaps even a little indulgent!
Guys, hardly a menu, you order pork tacos by the half kilo. They were soo good. Come here for authentic experience. They give you side sauces and condiments. Half kilo was $12USD and made like 25 tacos. Delicious and crispy pork.
Nicholas B — Google review
We were staying in a condo and we bought a kilo (little over 2 pounds) of carnitas to take back and make a heap of tacos. It was delicious and they included a bag of chopped onions/cilantro and several sauces. We walked north up the street (turn right when leaving restaurant) to the end of the block to buy tortillas from a shop that makes them fresh daily. Our tacos were as good as those we bought in a restaurant.

Incredible pork (carnitas) tacos in all its varieties - maciza, surtida, cabeza, morcilla, castacan, etc. Locals visit this unassuming joint for lunch and buy meat by the kilo. The place is modest and sits about 25 people. Get the maciza for the most classic carnitas taco you can think of and castacan for a bit of crunch. 18 pesos ($1) per taco, and about 4 do the trick for a lunch that won't leave you hungry.
Diego Z — Google review
They are open on Tuesdays. 3 carnita tacos $60mxn … delicious however Carnitas Merchant 3 mins away was crispier here my portion was fattier

Second time we've eaten here this year cing back to Playa. I have been talking about the castacan since I had it in September. Am a little bit obsessed with it. Don't understand why others don't make this completely indulgent concoction. This time it was a little oilier than the first time but omg just delicious! My only advice is get the 1/4 kilo. It's plenty for 2. The picture shown is a half kilo and we couldn't finish though we were both starving! #shruglife

Picture this: fresh shrimp tacos drizzled with creamy sauce or garlic, and even a unique battered dogfish taco that’s been highly praised by locals.
Garlic shrimp tacos were delicious, made fresh in front of me, and a great deal at 150 pesos. This also included a small side of guacamole, beans, chips, and very spicy habanero salsa. Fantastic breakfast.

Lobster is must must try here..
Chasing__nirvana____ — Google review
Terrible Experience – Avoid This Place! The food was awful. The fried shrimp had five times more tempura than actual shrimp, making it nearly inedible. Another dish was drenched in vinegar, completely overpowering any other flavors. On top of that, they tried to scam us. They forced us to pay in cash, which was only mentioned in a small line on the menu—nowhere obvious or upfront. When we asked to pay in dollars, they gave us a ridiculously low exchange rate, claiming it was the same as the nearby exchange office. When I checked, the real rate was 20% higher. To make matters worse, the owner (or perhaps a waiter) was incredibly rude, rushing us to order and making us feel unwelcome. Would never come back. Stay away!

Nestled in a corner near the HSBC bank and Super Aki grocery store in Centro, Hermanos Taco Cart may appear unassuming at first glance, but it’s a hidden gem for taco lovers in Playa del Carmen. This food cart consistently draws long lines of hungry patrons eager to savor its delicious offerings. While there are only a few plastic chairs available during the day, visiting on a weekend night transforms the experience into an inviting outdoor market vibe.
Lovely taco stand with good quality food, plenty of seating and friendly staff. I tried the tripa which was flavourful and the pastor which were delicious as well. They had a great assortment of toppings to choose from and loaded up the tacos 👌 Great value for $25 pesos per taco. I’ll be back!

Delicious! I tried this place after trying their competition right beside them and they’re both really good! Here I got the pastor taco and I liked how they had the pineapple as a topping! They also have juices horchata and they only have one size option which is a liter but it’s so good and you can take it to go
Liezl S — Google review
Right in front of the MEGA grocery store, several food stands pop up. Some are there during the day, some show up in the evening, and all of the ones that we tried were fantastic. Everything from the best empanadas that I've had, to fantastic birria tacos, and so much more that we did and didn't get to try. There are some plastic chairs but otherwise, it's either stand or sit on the curb and eat. Each cart also has a selection of salsas, onions, radishes, etc. to add to your order. Each also has a cooler of drinks (water, horchata, soda). We went here a few times during our recent trip despite staying about 35 minutes away in Akumal. Twice we were the only foreigner's and once we were one set of two pairs. Not once did we feel out of place or at any kind of risk. Everyone was polite and kind and our Spanish is limited to only a handful of words (something we're working on for next time!). The people that took our payments would type out the amount owed on a calculator (take pesos!) for us, which was much appreciated and helped a ton with communication. An example of pricing: I ordered 6 birria tacos, a soda, and a horchata, and I paid 120 pesos, which is approximately USD 5.84!
Rachel S — Google review
Best tacos in Playa del Carmen! 15 pesos each one (75cents) and the tortillas are incredible. I always order the traditional al pastor, (see picture) and then you can select from the cart which additions will you like to add (guacamole salsa, pico de Gallo, pineapple, beans, rice, cucumber…) Totally recommended 🌮 ❤️

Pretty good tacos, asked for 'asada' and got chicken. Got a torta with the pork on a rotating spit, pretty good as well. Very affordable, took a minute to get without a line. $240 for 3 tacos, torta, and two drinks. Took back to our hotel dressed with delicious salsa.
