Fish and seafood restaurant
Located in the heart of Whitstable, Wheelers Oyster Bar is a historic gem that has been serving market-fresh seafood since 1856. The iconic pink-and-blue painted building is a must-visit spot for both visitors and locals. This bring-your-own-affair restaurant offers an array of fresh local seafood, including oysters, crab, mussels, whelks, and more.
Loved the food here! Quick service and very fresh. We had Guinness oysters and Yuzu oysters. There was a lot of ice on the Yuzu oysters so just be careful if you have sensitive teeth. The Guinness oysters were very light and delicious. To start they give a delicious home made bread and pesto. Thanks!

First place you need to visit if you are traveling to Whitstable. What an incredible place to have seafood, it was amazing. Delicious, tasty, we arrived just 4 min before they closed the kitchen and we managed to order 3 plates and 1 starter. The plating, the taste, the service everything worth it! Super recommend it. We will come back!
Laura M — Google review
The dining areas are compact and bijou so it does pay to book as they like to pace the kitchen. The food is unctuous and packed with flavour. Many of the dishes on offer have Far Eastern influences and flavours. This is unusually a BYO but there is a brilliant off licence opposite. The tiny but… for us was some of the fish was a tiny bit overcooked but it’s a delicious place for lunch and we will return.
Alison M — Google review
Definitely a busy place. When we got there, only a handle of seats was available and they were all taken. We ordered takeout. We just needed to tell what we wanted to the staff with our names. When the food is ready, your name would be shouted out. Price is ok compared to other oysters 🦪 shops around. We found the deep fried oysters were quite interesting. The raw ones were fresh, no incidents afterwards.
J. Q — Google review
We read about this place in the timeout magazine article about day trips from London. The town is absolutely charming, and this place was definitely worth a stop in. I would say that the staff could be a little bit kinder, they seemed a little bit stressed out and not really happy to deal with some basic questions. i’m sure it is difficult to operate this kind of an establishment in a tourist town, but you guys can do a little bit better. Our oysters were delicious and it seemed like everybody enjoyed what they had. You would think so since this is a fishing port and they’re getting everything fresh from the sea. I would say it seems a bit pricey for what it is. Pro tip, the place is BYOB and you can get a bottle of something nice very close by to bring in with you. The interior is very cute.
ESB N — Google review
Delicious Guinness fried oysters. Waited a while but shows the love and care they put in to make sure what you eat is top notch. No need to add anything, just pick them up and enjoy each bite of something you must experience when in Whitstable.
Eewei C — Google review
You will never regret getting a table at this charming small restaurant no matter the time of the day. Same some space for real tasty fresh seafood !! Oh also BYOB !!

Absolutely loved this place, service and food were 100% and will definitely be returning 😋 booking in advance is definitely advised.

Oyster bar restaurant
Seafood restaurant
The Whitstable Oyster Company is a charming seafood restaurant located in a whitewashed former oyster store, offering a classic rustic setting and stunning views of the oyster grounds. Situated right on the beachfront, this establishment serves mouthwatering seafood, including fresh oysters, fish, and lobster. With its large terrace, wood-paneled rooms, and trendy lounge bar, it provides an ideal spot for enjoying delectable dishes by the sea.
The food here is amazing! We visit Whitstable from time to time just to eat here in this restaurant. The fish and sea food is mega fresh and prepared in a delicious way. There is plenty of space in a few rooms and a garden in front of the sea but I would suggest to book a table especially over the weekend and Summer time. The stuff improved from our last visit. The service was quick and very friendly. The food was amazing as always. The choice of a sea food is pretty good here. They also serve very nice desserts and good coffee. The toilets are spacious and clean. Highly recommend.
Eva K — Google review
I'll admit I'm not a great seafood afficianado but I thoroughly enjoyed the food here. We decided to get a selection of starters that we could all share. My highlights were the dressed crab and pan fried scallops, a special mention to some of the best chips I've ever had. The oysters were lovely and fresh as you would expect. The restaurant has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The staff here are lovely, very attentive and friendly. Definitely not the cheapest but would come again for a special occasion
Steve S — Google review
A wonderful spot to enjoy excellent fish. The quality is superb, with extremely fresh fish caught daily. The beach is just outside the restaurant truly a beautiful place. The interior is classy, very clean, and welcoming. All the staff are absolutely very kind and helpful. A little gem facing the sea. Prices are fair, considering the extremely high quality of the freshly caught fish. Absolutely recommended. Booking is mandatory. There is an indoor restroom, also accessible for those who use a wheelchair.

Thought this may just be a tourist cliche but we were very pleasantly surprised. Looks almost like a Disney ye olde pirate set but very nicely done and the food was superb. Nice staff. Delicious fresh oysters and seafood did not disappoint. Lovely mussels (a la Biere was particularly good) and a genuinely surprising meaty lovely mackerel. Plus superb scallops with balsamic. Even though drinks aren’t cheap it felt like money very well spent.
David P — Google review
Absolutely love this place! Today we ordered the grilled scallops, Rockefeller grilled oysters, and a warm salmon salad to share — along with two beers. Everything was incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and feels like family. Highly recommend booking a table in advance!
Viktoriia K — Google review
Delicious and nice vibe. We order grilled oysters and scallops, both are tasty. Fish and chip is good too, the portion is quite big. A bit pricey for oysters I would say but it’s comfortable and chill to sit and dine with a sea view.
Ivy L — Google review
We came in to have a lunch on a busy Saturday and were kindly seated in the bar area since we didn't have a reservation in the restaurant which was full. The service was welcoming and we didn't have to wait long for the mains. We went for grilled mackerel and grilled plaice and both were good but the plaice really stood out and was absolutely deliciously cooked. I would really recommend it to anyone who loves fish. Overall the place is nice and you could also accompany your meal with local ales and stouts.
Vsevolod — Google review
Good food, nice ambience but let down by slow service. Starters (crab & scallops) were great, the grey mullet fish was a bit chewy and overcooked. I appreciated that the service moved us outside when space became available. But the servers were not attentive, our drinks did not come until we asked about them when we were eating the starters already. Great beers from their brewery next door.

Seafood restaurant
The Lobster Shack is a warm and inviting eatery that offers a variety of seafood dishes, from lobster to fried fish, all accompanied by a selection of beers. It's the perfect place for a sit-down meal or a more casual beachside experience. With its canteen-style setup, this bustling beach shack serves up delicious plates of lobster and fish and chips at quite a pace. Additionally, it features an oyster bar with various shellfish options and toppings.
some of the most delicious oysters i’ve ever had! juicy and large even tho not prime season. the fish is also so fresh, and there are gluten free options available too. the lobster and shrimp roll was also a showstopper, loaded and delectable! reasonable prices for the quality you’re getting. also amazing views and breeze to be right on the water. seating was fast and ordering was easy via qr but you could go up to ask any questions without worry and everyone was accommodating. great vibes!
Ali S — Google review
The food and atmosphere was excellent! Decided to splurge a little to try the grilled lobster half and it didn’t disappoint at all. It was so fresh and delicious! Paired well with the white wine. The oysters were very fresh and amazing with Tabasco sauce. Service was good but I’m only giving 4 stars because the staffs were not very proactive to welcome me upon arrival. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon slightly after 12:00pm when the restaurant had only 20% customers. Highly recommend to come before 12:30pm on a weekend because the restaurant was completely full by 1:00pm. Indoor and outdoor dining had good atmosphere. Worth a visit!
Joanne N — Google review
Bustling shack by the sea with tasty classics. The Lobster Shack turned out to be a wonderfully atmospheric place. I found it thanks to a GPT chat recommendation, and the fish and chips were truly delicious. We skipped the oysters—though they’re clearly a highlight for many visitors— as well as the huge seafood platter that’s very popular. From what I’d read, I expected a fine-dining spot, but in reality it feels more like a big, lively seaside fish-and-chips bar. And honestly, that suits the location perfectly. Right on the shore, with plenty of outdoor seating, it has a relaxed, authentic charm. We visited during the May Bank Holidays; it was windy, so we sat inside. It was crowded and a little noisy, but the food was worth it. The stainless-steel tables add to the down-to-earth vibe—almost as if they were once used for fish prep and simply left for diners. Parking is available nearby, though finding a space can be tricky. Overall: tasty, atmospheric, and definitely worth trying.

A simple birthday treat. Sat outside and enjoyed great quality oysters, lobster, shrimp & lobster baguette, good chips, zero beer for me and a glass of champagne for the birthday lady! Efficient and friendly service. Order from the table via QR codes. View...looking out across the estuary. Very cool and laid back.

My first time in Whitstable. My husband suggested we try the Lobster Shack. We tried to make a booking, but he was told it was fully booked. We would have gone somewhere else but we went in and asked for a table for tro and we're given a choice of tables. You book your order via a QR code on the table. It worked very well our drinks arrive quickly. Not long after the food we ordered. We both had lobster thermidor a full and half lobster 🦞 it comes with chips and a salad. The food is delicious 😋 and piping hot. If you sit inside you can see the staff cooking everything, it's amazing how quick they work with a full restaurant and customers sitting outside. I definitely recommend eating here. There is a good choice of food on the menu and the service is quick.

Easily the best fish and chips Ive had. Os delicious! Highly recommend. Staff was great as well! Arrived moments after they opened, and was quickly served.
Megan G — Google review
My boyfriend and I came here for the holidays. We ordered half a lobster and chips, butter shrimp with salad, and fried shrimp with chips. The restaurant atmosphere is very good. It is next to the sea, quiet and away from the hustle and bustle. There are seats inside and outside by the sea. The staff is friendly and attentive to service.
Ctn P — Google review
This place was an unexpected surprise to us. When I was looking for directions on the Google map, I saw the lobster 🦞 shack and we immediately decided to head there. We weren't disappointed at all. Lobster was ver tasty, nicely done served with plenty of chips and salad. I loved the oysters. I ordered some twice. They have happy oysters hours from 5pm to 6pm for half price. We had lunch then went fie a long walk along the beach then came back for the happy hour to eat more oysters. Whitstable is the place for oysters lovers. Love it.

Pub

Restaurant
Old Neptune is a charming Victorian inn located right on the beach, featuring period decor and offering pub-grub along with live music. Known as "Neppy" to locals, it is one of the few pubs found on the beaches of Britain. The pub provides an ideal spot to enjoy the sights and sounds of the sea while sipping a beer on the beach.
It's very rare to find a pub in England built right on the coast, so I really was excited to stop in here. The food and the beer were phenomenal. I literally had the best beer I've ever had in my life here, and it was at no other pub in town or anywhere else I've ever been. Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter. Apparently the owner keeps it on tap here, and I think that is a great decision. All the staff were very friendly, they accommodated us when we arrived late by keeping the kitchen open for us. They do trivia night once a week here that seems like a good time. They have a patio out back that offers a great view of the setting Sun over the Thames Estuary. Parking would be an issue, there aren't many spots here. But I feel like a lot of people are within walking distance and the pub is right off of the waterfront trail. It was also a bit more expensive than other pubs, but I can understand that given it's fantastic location and good food.
Oliver W — Google review
This is a great pub right on the beach at Whitstable!! Always very busy because of where it is! We were lucky and got a seat inside, just before the lunchtime rush! We had the fish and chips as the fish is fresh from the harbour! There was a bit of a wait for lunch but it wasn't too long! There's real ale and plenty of other drinks to choose!! The food was hot and delicious as well!
Nicky W — Google review
This charming old pub right on the beach is a must if you are visiting this cute town of Whitstable. It was definitely hopping on the early August day that we stopped in and we were able to secure a beachside picnic table for our group of three adults and three children. We did see some reservation signs on certain tables so it seems you can plan for an outdoor table in advance. We had the fish and chips which was very tasty and a couple of pints of ale, which was also good, the ladies working behind the counter were very sweet and helpful.
ESB N — Google review
A lovely pub right on the beach. Reasonable prices for drinks. Very dog friendly. Mu husband, my doggy Koda and myself visited whilst out for the day in Whitstable. I only gave 4 stars as I didnt try the food this time but I will update my review if I do.
Cherished B — Google review
Picture perfect location jutting out along the beach, with a huge covered outdoor patio area. Perfect classic rural British pub feel inside with great service and amazing fresh fish & trips. Must go in Whitstable.
Kyle G — Google review
Nice view, great beers and ciders. Food was not what we expected : you pay more for the view than quality. But we can all agree it’s the perfect spot for sunsets !
Ema B — Google review
Great old timey quirky pub with plenty of tap choice, great selection of top shelf liquor and BBQ food outside on the terrace literally at the top of the beach. Sounds of people enjoying themselves all around the massive seating area, waves lapping the beach 40 ft away and very friendly accommodating staff serving drinks to tables with hot & cold food. Will be returning.

Real gem – right on the beach with stunning views. It has a lively, welcoming atmosphere and serves up great food that pairs perfectly with the seaside setting. A must-visit spot for anyone in town.

Samphire is a charming bistro in Whitstable, offering a rustic ambiance and an elegant black and gold Art Deco inspired exterior. The menu features local fish, meat, and seasonal greens, with a focus on fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Open all day, the bistro serves up breakfast favorites like kedgeree and eggs benedict prepared by chef Billy Stock.
One word, WOW! This place did not disappoint. We had the crab rarebit to start, and this was a 20/10. My sister had the prawns and she said they were super meaty and flavoursome. The focaccia was the best we’ve ever had! We then had roast dinners, chicken supreme and beef, with a side of pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese. The portion sizes were ample, and great value for money. The staff were warm and friendly and super attentive. Will definitely be returning!
Jemma J — Google review
I searched for a resturant in Whitstable for a Saturday evening dinner with my partner. After looking at various resturants I picked Samphire based on the great reviews and enticing food pics. On arrival we received a warm welcome and was shown to our seat. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed. We ordered some cocktails which were okay. We ordered starters which arrived separately and I had finished mine before my partner's came which the server apologised for. I chose the oysters which were really fresh and tasty. Unfortunately my partners grilled prawns really lacked in flavour. After 40 mins the mains arrived. For my main I ordered the fish pie which many reviewers absolutely raved about. It was okay at best. . . Really under seasoned and bland unfortunately. My partner ordered the steak which came with no accompaniments, so he chose the potatoe pave. The steak itself was tasty and the potatoes were okay but quite bland. The overall experience was lacking based on the reviews of others and in my opinion not worth the price. Not worth a second visit.
Romy B — Google review
A real treat. Hearty and flavourful meals. Delicious ham with creamed leeks, fish pie and Creole mussels. Brilliant vegetarian options which everybody enjoyed. Traditional desserts with excellent textures. Very long and interesting wine list. Friendly staff and jolly atmosphere. The only thing that spoiled it was that a children’s dish from the children’s menu was spicy, it didn’t state this, and she didn’t eat much.
Emma N — Google review
Enjoyed a beautiful lunch at Samphire to celebrate my birthday. Food is absolutely fabulous, there’s a wide drinks selection, wonderful friendly staff and service. Very very special restaurant and highly recommended.
Maya H — Google review
Samphire is a wonderful independent, family-run bistro in the heart of Whitstable, offering a true taste of Kent and the South East. Their commitment to fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from local farms, fishermen, and producers is evident in every dish. The ½ dozen oysters with juniper mignonette are a must-try—exceptionally fresh, plump, and bursting with flavor. For dessert, the Miso & sea salt brownie with miso & caramel ice cream is an absolute delight. The touch of sea salt elevates the flavors, creating a perfect balance of sweetness and umami. A fantastic spot to experience local cuisine with a warm and welcoming atmosphere!
Jack L — Google review
We went to Samphire for the lunch menu. I had the Oysters with Pickled Apple to start, and they were amazing, followed by Holy Trinity Mussels and Bread & Butter Pudding. My wife had the Terrine to start followed by Holy Trinity Mussels and Sticky toffee pudding. All the food was exceptional and the staff were really friendly.
Tony R — Google review
We had a great birthday lunch at Samphire! The food was delicious and we had a lovely window seat 🩷

Had a lovely experience here for my birthday. The food is delicious and they have an incredibly well priced set lunch menu. Staff were friendly and attentive. Really appreciated the extra effort made by the team such as 'happy birthday' written on the table and the candle in my dessert! Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.

The Forge is a no-frills oyster shack located by the beach in Whitstable. It offers a selection of local seafood, including juicy oysters that can be enjoyed while sitting on the wall overlooking the sea. The unassuming shack also serves local beer, coffee, scampi and chips, and sugary hot donuts. Visitors can watch the staff shuck oysters on-site before purchasing their own.
Great spot for some fresh oysters. The native oysters are meaty, but they also have rock oysters as an option. The chips are chunky and great. Good range of drinks on tap (& bottles). Fast service. Very popular with tourists and locals - location is key. There's outdoor seating available.

This is our go to fish and chips in Whitstable. We always return as it’s so fresh and you can sit and look out to sea while you eat. The portions are really big so we like to share a large cod and chips between two and grab a set of oysters to go with. The drinks are all local which is lovely, I would particularly recommend the oyster stouts. You can also get donuts fresh to order and proper ice cream. The staff are always very friendly and laid back even when you can see that they’re under pressure. It’s such a nice atmosphere to be able to see the oysters being shucked on the seafront or watch your donuts go through the machine. Will always recommend the Forge and will always return!

There is a happy hour between 5 pm to o 6 pm for oysters everyday. The oysters is fresh and delicious 😋 Their chicken dishes are great, too. I highly recommend this place when you visit Whitstable.

Lovely rustic experience right by the seashore and yacht club. Delicious breakfast barms and good coffee. Perfect spot for a midway stop on a walk along the beachfront. Very very handy for our stay at the Whitstable beach house. Shame missed the happy hour oysters - fantastic value
David P — Google review
Does exactly what it says - no frills oyster shack! Happy hour 5-6pm for £1.25 oysters or 6 for £6.25. We sadly missed it by 10 minutes but even full priced it isn’t too bad (£2.50 per oyster or 6 for £12.50). Would definitely recommend for the oysters and al fresco beachside drinks. As other reviewers have said - probably not the best spot in Whitstable for fish and chips.
CP — Google review
Great, fresh oysters, turnover so fast you know they've never been lying around for long. Big portion of cod and chips and locally brewed beer, including the famous oyster stout. Would go back, without a doubt.
Kev H — Google review
Nestled near the scenic shores of Tinkerton, Forge offers a delightful open-air dining experience that perfectly complements its standout fish and chips. The fresh sea breeze and relaxed beachside atmosphere set the stage for a meal that’s both comforting and memorable. The fish was beautifully cooked—golden and crispy on the outside, with tender, flaky white meat inside. The batter had just the right balance of seasoning and crunch, never overpowering the delicate flavor of the fish. Paired with perfectly cooked chips—crisp on the outside, fluffy within—it was a classic done exceptionally well. What elevates the experience is the setting. The open-air layout lets you soak in the coastal views and ambiance, making it ideal for a laid-back lunch or early evening meal. Friendly service rounds out the visit, making Forge a must-visit spot for anyone craving a quality seaside fish and chips.

Harbour Street Tapas is a small, simply decorated restaurant in Whitstable that offers an updated take on Spanish sharing plates with a focus on local seafood. The intimate yet airy space was opened by owner Lee Murray, who is well-known for selling the best Kentish produce at Murrays General Store in Canterbury. The menu features straight-up Spanish tapas like tortillas, ham croqueta balls, and grilled octopus with spicy Canarian mojo picon.
First time coming to the harbour street tapas and it won’t be the last! Started with some delicious tinto de verano which definitely went down a treat. And then the service was quick, attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, generous and beautiful. What more could you want?

Not been here for a long time and wish we had come back sooner. Very busy and fortunately dropped in ahead of time to reserve a table. Despite being busy the service was friendly and helpful, food almost came too quickly as would have happily lingered longer. Whitebean Hummus and the asparagus tortilla were delicious but hard to find fault with any of the dishes we tried.

OMG it's just so good...after 2 weeks in Andlusian Spain (predominantly eating our weight in octopus) we just needed a foodie fix, and boy did HST deliver; great service, amazing food & good choice of wine....& delighted to find Galician Octopus (pictured here with the accompanying potatoes) as their special....and yes it was...very special.

We had a wonderful time here as the food was amazing. Some highlights would be the fried baby squid and grilled tiger pawns. We also ordered pan con tomate, padron peppers and duroc pork ribs. The portions were relatively large and the service was excellent. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys Spanish food.

All the staff were so welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere was lovely. My partner has an egg allergy and the staff were so kind and helpful, they really took the time to go through the menu to show him what he could have and were extremely accommodating. A special thank you to waitress Leah who was especially considerate and knowledgable about allergies. Sometimes eating out can be a little tricky but she made the whole experience very easy and enjoyable for us :-)

Buoy and Oyster is a relaxed and chic seafood restaurant located in Margate, offering elevated seafood dishes alongside cocktails and wine. Since its opening in 2015, it has become a favorite dining spot with a modern dining area, trendy cocktail lounge, and an outdoor terrace overlooking the beach. The focus is on local seafood sourced from Kent-based fishermen, but there are also other options using locally-sourced ingredients.
The food is amazing. Love the fresh seafood. The service seemed off. Unsure of the vibe they project from a customer care perspective. The team seem such great work colleagues. Yet the atmosphere from the hosts at the front and throughout didn't feel hospitable, warm, or welcoming. Requested for a high chair. It was provit was so dirty. Some care for hygiene especially for families with babies would be lovely.

Service was amazing, very friendly. Food was unique, fresh, and beautifully presented. Massive thank you to Craig who is clearly an outstanding chef, and his crew for an outstanding meal overlooking the sea for sunset. Will definitely be back and will be recommending

We had an amazing lunch with a stunning sea view and the freshest seafood. Everything was delicious from start to finish — the oysters, the perfectly cooked fish, and even the chips! A special thank you to Beata, our waitress, who was incredibly kind, professional, and made us feel truly welcome. Her service was flawless and really elevated the whole experience. Highly recommended — we’ll definitely be back!

We had a fantastic meal at Buoy and Oyster. The terrace area offers a lovely view over the water — perfect for capturing beautiful sunset photos. The ambience was relaxed and welcoming, and every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious and incredibly fresh. Emily provided warm, attentive, and professional service, which truly added to the overall experience — the cherry on top! They also offer a great selection of non alcoholic cocktails. We’ll definitely be returning next time we’re in the area.

We were there on 4th of May for a late lunch. The starters and desserts were so delicious. I loved the tart, must try! Cod&chips was ok, but nothing special. The classic Caesar salad with prawn was ok, should be more ingredients, the sauce was a bit salty. But overall, It was a nice place in Margate, service was quick even It was a busy bank holiday weekend. Only thing is It is just too expensive.

Had an amazing meal at the buoy and oyster this afternoon, we had the fried pickles and onion bhaji Scotch egg followed by the sea bass special and the fish and chips. Received great service from Beata! Would definitely come back here again, lovely atmosphere and such fresh tasty food!

Amazing dining 5 course tasting menu experience. From the snacks right through the courses of Breads, Oysters, Slip Sole, Roast Venison and Cheeseboard, and the wines were reasonably priced - everything was spot, including the service and atmosphere.

Excellent food - I had oysters with caviar, monkfish, rib eye of roast beef, chocolate mouse, bottle of Chapel Down Brut. Stayed in one of the cabins which was idyllic. They leave you lots of breakfast fixings too. Paradise.

This place is a little out of the way but it is more than worth a visit. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu but my favourite dishes were the hors d'oeuvres (they aren't listed on the menu but they are brilliant,)the turbot and the quince soufflé. If you're visiting Whitstable it is well worth the detour to try out.

Fantastic meal. I’ve been wanting to visit for many years and it did not disappoint. Everything was spot on - highlights were the breads, the oysters, the sea bass, the sauces (classical French) and the soufflé. The wine list was also very affordable.

Up frum Lundon for a Xmas lunch. What joy! From the warm welcome and in depth discussion of the menu to the presentation of a wonderful variety of. Meze the whole experience was sheer delight. The service was seamless, faultless, friendly and fun, the flavours and freshness of the food made our lunch the best restaurant meal of the year. And we are professional lunch eaters! Cannot praise Jojos too highly. Do not visit Whitstable without taking in a Jojo Meze. Epic establishment. Memorable occasion. Thank you, Jojo.

Great food. I understand some people like the patatas bravas served where the sauce and potatoes are separate, but we don't. They could have given us a choice. Not being in the area, I've not been here for years. Great Long Island Iced Tea Jojo's style. Definitely be back now I'm back in the area.

an amazing spot with lots of unique and delicious tapas! their seasonal menu is full of gems and the croquetas i had were absolutely delectable, full of flavour and the perfect balance of crispiness and softness. they were so unique to anything i’ve had and unforgettable! the hummus and tzatziki with bread was delicious and refreshing, the gluten free bread being made in house was such a nice treat! the desserts are also showstopping, we had the sticky toffee ice cream, lemon posset, and cinnamon/blood orange ice cream and everything was so fresh and bespoke. we had an amazing time here, sitting outside with the breeze, and al the staff were super lovely as well — in particular edie was a complete star, double checking what we ordered with the kitchen to insure there was no risk to allergies, recommending amazing food, and all around being kind and great. 100% recommendations and wish we could come back everyday!

Jojo’s 19:45 - July 12th - 150£ The food was good. Enjoyed it. 2 starters, salad, and one or two other things, no dessert and 4 drinks, came to about 150£. Was to be expected as this restaurant is set in a lovely location and stand alone. Service was good. One thing I did like is that I was called prior to booking to be told that my table of preference wouldn’t be available but that we’d be close to a window (which, it turned out, the entire place is pretty much windows) and that extra care prior to visiting was nice. In house service, was nice, a little rushed, but pleasant, polite and nice. Very simple and lovely dining experience. When in the area again, will definitely return! Keep up the good work guys.

I booked Jojos as the venue for my 60th Birthday party and I could not have been more delighted with the way the evening went. In fact, even before the night itself, Joe was helpful, approachable and professional when we discussed what I might want for my event. On the night, the setting was stunning with the sun setting over Tankerton Slopes. The space is warm, beautiful and tastefully decorated. I’d booked a swing band who set up in a dedicated space with plenty of room for dancing, and a Prosecco bar welcomed my guests. The food was, as ever, delicious and plentiful and the staff super friendly, helpful and obliging. I am so grateful for all their help in ensuring I was able to throw such a fun evening. Honestly, my guests are still talking about the fabulous food. Special mention must go to the selection of cheeses! Incredible.

Visiting a year later, Jojo’s continues to impress once again. The service is excellent, friendly and attentive staff without being too much. The view is incredible and the ambiance in the evening is stunning. The drinks are always good with a great choice of cocktails and the food is brilliant, feels like London quality but very reasonably priced. With this being our second trip whilst on holiday, we decided it’s probably one of our favourite restaurants in the UK when all elements are considered. If you’re visiting the area, this is a MUST visit.

The Pearsons Arms is a charming pub and restaurant located by the beach, offering a delightful dining experience with its modern British cuisine featuring locally sourced seafood, meat, and cheese. The establishment boasts an inviting decor with driftwood walls, comfortable seating options including leather armchairs and captain's chairs, as well as thoughtful details such as beautiful flower arrangements on the bar counter.
Best place for a Sunday Roast in Whitstable. Traditional, cosy seaside pub. Me and my bf have tried the chicken, beef and pork roast and all taste flavourful & delicious! Staff are extremely attentive and they do not put a large service charge on the bill (unless in a larger group) which is a bonus as you are free to tip as you please (which we do because they deserve it). Live music is always a nice touch and you have a lovely view of the seafront. Surprised by some of the bad reviews on here, they seem quite harsh in my opinion.

Booked table 10 upstairs - table with a view of the sea. There are a few stairs to get to the top if you have mobility issues. There is also seating in the main entrance which is the bar area and down a few steps is another seating area and the toilets (the only toilets) staff were really friendly and attentive without being overwhelming and the food was excellent. We had Orzotto - creamy and. Dry delightful with a side of mozzarella and tomatoes - which went very well. Coffee to finish and well worth the visit .

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Pearson's Arms in Whitstable, and honestly, it’s exactly what you want from a seaside pub. While the exterior might look unassuming, stepping inside is like getting a warm hug. It instantly feels welcoming, especially on a chilly day, thanks to that lovely open fire crackling away in the hearth. When I visited it was very busy, and there was nowhere to sit which was a pity. What I particularly appreciate is that The Pearson’s Arms operates as a genuine free house. This means they aren’t tied to one single brewery, and it shows in their selection. The range of real ales, local Kentish brews, and fine wines on offer is genuinely impressive and clearly curated with care. It's fantastic to have such freedom of choice when you're looking for the perfect accompaniment to the sea air. I went for lunch, opting for a seasonal seafood dish, which was clearly made with locally-sourced ingredients and expertly cooked. The upstairs dining area, with its fantastic views over the bay, gives it a gastro-pub feel, while the bar downstairs retains that proper, cozy English pub charm. Now, a crucial tip: if you plan on visiting for their renowned Sunday roast or just a weekend meal, booking a table is absolutely advisable. I saw just how busy it gets—the place was absolutely packed! Don't risk turning up without a reservation, or you'll likely face a long wait. It's a highly popular spot for a very good reason. I’m already planning my next trip back; it’s a perfect slice of Kentish coastal hospitality.

Once again delved into the Kent seaside after hearing rumblings around The Pearsons arms, after a brief scan of the menu online we had little choice but to immediately book. So a table for 4 it was. This pub and restaurant offers up some of the finest cocktails and food around, I’m sure it is adored by locals and what a Sunday it was. Without hesitation my partner and I opted for no starter however going off the lunch we had I wouldn’t hesitate to try any and all of them. Upon arrival I went straight into the drinks menu, we would usually opt for wine however I am a sucker for a Bloody Mary. And despite it taking what seemed a long time to prepare (not a criticism as it was absolutely perfect) I can say with some certainty it has raised the Bloody Mary bar exceptionally high. We were seated upstairs and the views are stunning looking out over the bay. My friends decided on lamb and beef, and raved about it. Everything cooked to utter perfection, we decided on the roast sharer, it is hard to put into words and pictures how wonderfully it is presented, with various cuts of delightfully succulent meats. I was torn between it all, the pork comes with a crackling that pretty much knocked my socks off, the chicken was so tender, the lamb and beef cooked to a perfect medium rare. A massive selection of veg, Yorkshire pudding, potatoes, gravy, the list goes on. I was sceptical around the price tag however you are getting every pennies worth of food and plenty left that they happily bagged up for us to take. I couldn’t recommend this place enough, and am eager to head along to some of there specials nights to see what else the wizards in the kitchen can prepare. After stuffing my face and enjoying a lovely bottle of Sauvignon we headed downstairs just in time to catch the amazing Thomas Abrahams. I have seen him on a few occasions but he literally had the entire pub bouncing with his solo guitar performances, rarely stopping for air. The atmosphere was incredible, everyone in such a positive mood and dancing I’m sure long after we left. I often find I’m looking for things that maybe could be different, but I wouldn’t change a single thing, it’s a solid 5*, if you get the chance to experience this Sunday greatness don’t turn it down. I look forward to returning in the near future. Hats off to the bar team, chefs, restaurant team and everyone involved in making it quite possibly the finest Sunday lunch cuisine we have experienced to date. You will not be disappointed.

Wow what a fantastic bar. Great warm welcome from the staff. We had the 5 small plates OMG they were so tasty, especially the chipolatas from Jim's family butchers down the road. Prawns were amazing as was the whipped feta just gorgeous. We were extra greedy and also had the Tel pork burger and crab monsieur and on a Monday they have draft beer for £5. Will definitely be back. They are also dog friendly 🐕

Absolutely fantastic pub! The atmosphere was brilliant from the moment we walked in — warm, lively, and welcoming. The fireplace adds a lovely touch, especially on a chilly evening, and the live music gave the place a great vibe without being too loud. It’s also dog-friendly, which makes it even better. The selection of beers and gins seemed endless — something for everyone, and all top quality. We were genuinely impressed and left very pleased. Definitely coming back!
Dzintars G — Google review
Have previously eaten here and was not at all impressed with the roast, we very nearly went elsewhere for food. We decided to give it another chance though and just had the most amazing Saturday afternoon in Pearson's. We lucked out and got the best seats in the house with comfy chairs and a roaring fire. The food was to die for. Best onion rings I've ever had, and my mussels were beautiful. Chicken burger was delicious (although a bit messy!) with a really good curry sauce. Had a rose aperol spritz which was divine. Lovely to see local produce on the menu, meat from the local butcher, bread from the bakery in town. Whitstable is famed for it's oysters however and the ones on the menu were from Maldon. Baffling. Menu was a little bit confusing as it didn't say that mussels as a main came with fries. Staff were lovely although a bit slow to serve, four of them stood behind the bar and it took a good minute for them to acknowledge me. I was the only person at the bar. Very minor points though, just a shame as otherwise perfect.

Fantastic spot. The best of the seaside. Space, beaches places to eat and chill. You need these standards as the seaside towns can become a little bit run down. You don't want to be ripped off, but you don't want it to be too cheap. That it allows standards to drop under an unacceptable level. The beach isn't the best because it's pebbles, but that's not going to stop me from maintaining a five rating.

Rocksalt Restaurant offers a chic and modern dining experience with floor-to-ceiling glass and a terrace overlooking the harbor. Chef James Pearce, previously from nearby Rocksalt, showcases the best of Kent's seafood on the menu. Diners can enjoy Blackwater Estuary oysters prepared in various ways, along with an array of snacks to complement their natural-leaning wine list. The mains feature delectable options such as monkfish with white miso or cod in vodka batter.
Right on the harbour in Folkestone, Rocksalt Restaurant has a stunning location. The blue of the sea in the website photo is no exaggeration - certainly not on the day we were there anyway. With the glass doors pulled wide open, we had a beautiful view of the harbour. Public parking was conveniently available over the road from the restaurant. We found the service to be friendly and efficient, perhaps a bit slow towards the end, but the restaurant had got busier by that time. It is a very popular place. The food and drink was very good. We all had different dishes and we all enjoyed the food a lot. The bill for five of us - and most of us had three courses - came in at about £50 a head including service.

Amazing food with a view. The fish and chips is amazing, huge portions, the tartar sauce and the mushy mint peas very delicious. The staff very friendly and the price is low for the quality you get. The view of the harbour is absolutely amazing even though it was low tide when we were there. Definitely will go again when in the area.

Lunch yesterday was (as usual) absolutely faultless! Food is a gastronomic delight - fish so fresh, it almost swims onto your plate and all served by friendly, polished and attentive staff. Warm and lively atmosphere and the setting is, even on a dull afternoon, breathtaking. Special mention to Lazlo, one of the restaurant managers, whose friendly and professional manner wouldn't be out of place in a London 5* restaurant. Thank you for making our day!
Kim H — Google review
My family used to live in Folkestone about 8 years ago, and my parents went to Rocksalt a couple of times back then and found the service slow and unhelpful, and the food of mediocre quality. Returning last week, we found that not much had changed. We were greeted by a young server who showed us to our table and took our drinks order - she was pleasant, but did not know much about the drinks options (we later saw others with cocktails, though this was not an option given to us; she also wasn't aware of the spirits options). I don't blame her as she was clearly young and inexperienced, but her lack of training and knowledge reflects very badly on the restaurant, especially as she was the first face we saw. We were also placed at a table right next to the door, where a chilly breeze was blowing in, and despite the restaurant being half empty our request to be moved was denied (several tables remained empty until we left a couple hours later). This was baffling and did not set a great tone for the night. The presentation of the food was very prettily done, and the fish was very fresh, but for the prices, the dishes themselves are very average - nice enough, but nothing special or exciting. We had come to Rocksalt for my sister's birthday, but other than a "happy birthday" at the door, no effort was made to make the night feel special - no rapport with the staff, no recommendations of dishes. When the meal finally ended, they brought out a plate with "happy birthday" written in chocolate sauce and a single, tiny scoop of raspberry sorbet. They hadn't even bothered to add her name (or even ask for it), nor inquire at any point what sort of flavours she might like (she doesn't like raspberry and would've honestly preferred a simpler flavour like vanilla or chocolate). A very poor performance, considering the supposed calibre of the restaurant. Overall, disappointing but not surprising. I'm honestly astounded at how many good reviews this place has, considering that amongst Folkestone natives and locals it is regularly avoided.

Unfortunately food was very bland and cold, very expensive, and we waited 1.5 hours for the food to be brought out. No one asked us how the food was, otherwise we would have told them, but started eating as we were so hungry. Beautiful view and good location though. Overall, massive disappointment - should have checked the review before hand, as recently they have received many reviews similar to mine. Advice, go somewhere else - you'll get much better food at a fraction of the price.

Location is beautiful - such amazing views across the Channel. The food was delicious - we had the scallops and prawns to start, the lemon sole and the skate and then the fondant for dessert - I’d highly recommend them all. The atmosphere is perfect which a luxurious yet relaxed dining experience. Personally, I loved how accommodating they were to our toddler. An amazing child’s menu but the staff were also just so helpful - Emma was absolutely wonderful. Thank you for such a lovely evening; we can’t wait to come back!

We had booked a big important birthday family celebration for 10. Having been to the restaurant before, we were looking forward to the a la carte dining in front of the panoramic windows with top notch food and service, as always, at a seafood restaurant. I called the restaurant to book, confirmed my credit card for the reservation. When we arrived, we were seated outside the main restaurant in ‘the garden’ which offered us drinks in paper cups and a limited bbq menu. A completely different vibe to what we expected and had hoped for. I spoke to the staff and explained this and asked for their help to elevate the experience. There was no space indoors in the main restaurant. We had agreed that they would swap out paper cups for proper glass and that we would be able to order from the a la carte desert menu at the end of the meal. Not perfect, but a possible solution. Here are some of the issues which occurred after this: - the cups (which were also flying everywhere in the wind) were not swapped out till I spoke to the staff again 40 mins later - the cutlery was placed on the table in a chewed up Tupperware box and stayed there through the meal - the food which we largely enjoyed, came out at completely different times which we weren’t warned about - the kids’ cheeseburger didn’t have any cheese - most people had finished their mains when the kids’ hot dog and sides finally arrived - from an order of three drinks (wine and two beers) only two arrived - the table next to us had ordered from the a la carte menu despite us being told that we could only have bbq mains - the waitress/manager came up to apologise and offer us drinks, but did it very loudly and to the whole table. I had tried to address all issues with the staff away from the table not to break up some sense of celebration and wished she had offered us the same courtesy I can see the staff were trying, but the bbq kitchen could clearly not come with a large table. The staff were pleasant but not completely experienced. We did get a bottle of wine and a couple of beers on the house as a gesture, but sadly it didn’t give us back any semblance of the experience we were expecting and had the pleasure of having in the past.

Lovely visit with a very friendly and helpful waitress from Moldova, we had bread and olives with oil and balsamic vinegar, I had a escallope of veal with Parma Ham, and mushrooms and sautéed potatoes, and my colleagues had pasta Posillipo, with clams, others had chicken scallops with cheese sauce, and another had lamb ragu! We forced ourselves to drink 3 bottles of Multopuchuano wine and 5 Gin & Tonics as well as some water! Total meal bill came to £247 including tips. Will go there again!

Avoid. Grim lunch and dreadful service. Ordered squid linguine with mussels and sea bass while friend ordered lamb. The linguine arrived and was gritty from the mussels and we were told the other main was on its way. Ate at a snails pace but it had still failed to arrive before I finished my food. Took another 15mins after that before it arrived. Was only just about edible with lots of gristle. One vague "sorry" when we complained. Not only did the bill stay the same - they even added service charge ( we didn't pay it clearly). We are reasonably local but can only presume they are here to fleece tourists and clearly don't care.

Stumbled across the restaurant when we were visiting Broadstairs. We selected dishes from the set menu. The starters were very hearty and delicious but the bruschetta was a bit burned. The main portion was smaller than expected and the chicken was dry but we had a nice time and the meal was overall tasty.

We dined here for dinner and were thoroughly impressed. I ordered the Spaghetti Sciue Sciue, which was exceptionally flavourful, it was evident that only the finest ingredients were used and the dish was cooked to perfection. Compliments to the chefs for their outstanding work, and to the entire team for their impeccable service.

Wonderful place. Service incredibly attentive and helpful without being intrusive. The food was fantastic, reminded us of holidays in Italy. Seafood pasta and seafood risotto both excellent and very generous on seafood and portion size. Very knowledgeable and careful around allergies (gluten and dairy in party). Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and return.

Delicious food and lovely staff. Dedicated vegan menu and very accommodating for people's needs. Huge portions and super tasty. Staff were very knowledgeable, friendly and made the atmosphere delightful. I would recommend booking as it can get very busy as it's a popular spot (rightfully so).

Birdies Restaurant is a charming family-run French bistro nestled in the heart of Whitstable. Since its establishment in 1993 by owners Philip and Sue Colthup, who are accomplished chefs with experience from New York and London, Birdies has been serving up authentic French cuisine using fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients. The restaurant's cozy ambiance features red-and-white check tablecloths and friendly service that adds to its timeless appeal.
Very well executed French cuisine with local produce in terms of flavours and quality. Particularly enjoyed the mussels (very fresh and no fishy taste at all) and beef wellington (cooked perfectly) would recommend to get those. Cosy vibe which I personally think is an ideal spot for a date or gathering with friends/family. Also enjoyed the nice warm service from the team x

High hopes dashed by a below-par beef Wellington and a disappearing skate wing We booked a little late and ended up at a roadside table outside, having missed out on the garden seating—not the best start. Things picked up briefly with the oysters and prawns, which were fresh and delicious. Then came the mains: beef Wellington and skate wing. I hadn’t had a Wellington in ages—it’s one of my absolute favourites—so expectations were high. Unfortunately, it arrived smothered in a thick, dark gravy that completely masked the meat. I couldn’t tell if it was pink inside, and the pastry was soggy. It looked more like someone had taken a paintbrush to it than plated it with any care. As for the skate wing, it had a deep red vein along the bone, which made us question whether it was fully cooked. It was taken back to the kitchen and simply never returned. About 15–20 minutes later, the waiter came back to say the chef had confirmed it was cooked—but the plate itself never reappeared. When we asked about it, the waiter looked a bit sheepish and asked if my friend would like something else. By that point, the rest of us had already finished eating, so she declined. The only apology? They didn’t charge for the skate wing. In hindsight, we probably should have gone to a more fish-focused restaurant and stuck with the obvious choice.

Really great seafood restaurant in Whitstable. We hadn’t booked so had to come back after 90 mins for a table but it was so very worth it. We opted for the 2-3 course menus which were so good in value. The food was all so delicious. Great starters, excellent fish and a tasty chocolate dessert. The staff were all super friendly and chatty, we really enjoyed our time here and can see why it gets so busy, even on a weekday afternoon!

I recently had lunch at Birdies Restaurant and was thoroughly impressed! The Wellington steak was cooked to perfection, incredibly tender witha truly great sauce. But the real highlight for me were the oysters they were incredibly fresh with that perfect hint of sea water, juicy, and wonderfully large. Honestly, they were the best I've tried in the UK. Highly recommend Birdies for an outstanding meal!

One of the best meals we've had in Whitstable. This little place is full of charm, the simplicity of a French bistro and uncomplicated dishes packed with flavour. This is not fancy food for fancy sake, this is beautifully crafted, wholesome dishes, with attention to taste. We ordered two starters (mussels & scallops), bread, olives and the beef wellington to share between two of us and it was plenty along with the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The wine was fantastic, and reasonably priced, but we did find the selection of spirits available to be somewhat basic and lacking the curated attention that could have complimented the overall experience better. Regardless, I will be back time and time again. Update: Dogs allowed 🐕

We ate at Birdies two days in a row as we have builders in and don't have a kitchen. Best decision ever. Birdies, not the builders.......! Saturday we had a mix of naked and Rockefeller oysters for starters, followed by the skate wing and monk fish for me. Sunday. Yet more Rockefeller oysters, but paired with the king prawns. For mains my wife had the haddock and I had beef wellington. Everything was PERFECT. Food, atmosphere, customer service. All brilliant. The beef wellington surpasses the one done by Roast at Borough Market, which was my previous favourite. Enough said. Even though we live in London and Birdies is a 90 minute drive, the trip is so worth it. See you there.

We went to Birdies for Dinner. When entering we were warmly greeted and made to feel welcome by the friendly but efficient staff. The food was lovely, I had Lobster Bisque, Lobster Thermidor and Poached Pear with Oat Crumble and my wife had Mussels, Lobster Thermidor and Crème Brûlée. The food tasted fresh and was well presented. Overall a lovely dining experience.

The Tartar Frigate is a historic 17th-century inn in Broadstairs, offering stunning views of Viking Bay. The traditional-style restaurant on the first floor provides panoramic views and features live folk music in the pub. Head chef Tom Chalklin specializes in seafood dishes, such as Mediterranean seafood salad and roast monkfish wrapped in Parma ham. Additionally, there are options for carnivores like Barbary duck breast on a sweet potato rosti.
Excellent service, lovely staff that were very polite and great to chat to. The food was really good, especially the scallops which were on the chef's specials. The crab was really good and the fish was soft and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was incredible and I highly recommend this place for a cozy seaside meal.

We visited this lovely seaside restaurant located on the first floor, with stunning beach views right outside the window. I highly recommend going around sunset for the most perfect scenery. Even during the heatwave in the UK summer, the air conditioning was excellent, making it very comfortable to dine indoors. Prices are reasonable, portions are generous, and the food is absolutely delicious. We ordered the hot seafood platter, lobster pasta, and pork belly – all of them were amazing. Highly recommended!
Gun M — Google review
We received the most excellent service dining here! Everyone was so friendly and nice. The atmosphere was very cozy with a nice sea view. The seafood dishes were also really good, we got both the hot starters, mixed seafood share plate and linguini and it was plenty for 4 of us. Thank you for a wonderful meal

We just had a fantastic lunch with even better service. I called to check we could bring our dog and was so pleased to hear it is super dog friendly! Which was proven when Bernie received a treat immediately on arrival from Chantal. (He was also doted on throughout lunch) The food was generous, tasty and obviously really fresh. We had the fish pie and scampi, both absolutely delicious. I highly recommend, it is so close to the water. Thank you!

This was an amazing seafood restaurant we went to whilst on holiday last week In Broadstairs and we loved it from walking in. The service from the waitress and waiter was great. friendly and helpful advising on courses. The seafood we chose was amazing perfectly cooked and served , my husband had lemon sole and I had sea bream. Delicious flavours. The desserts were stunning too. The best crème brûlée ever tasted. Would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be returning.

Lovely place, well worth a second visit. The scallops in the starter were generously sized, and the fish portions were very generous as well. I think it was the biggest portion of ray wing I have ever seen. The catch-of-the-day version of ray wing was clearly trying to compensate for the smaller size, but it was still satisfyingly large. The addition of crayfish brought variety, and I really enjoyed the seaweed that was served. The hosting team is v good, clearly working hard to impress and a pleasure to watch.
Gennady B — Google review
Food and service in the restaurant with its nice views were excellent. We hadn't booked and were here for the Blues Festival, so we're lucky to get a table. You can eat cheaper in Broadstairs, but I'm not sure you'll eat better! We returned a day later to catch one of the bands at the festival and although the pub was packed, the service was friendly, fast, and efficient . There's a wide selection of regular drinks as you'd expect, but the Guinness gets a nod as it was spot on. The ale drinkers we were with were equally impressed with their brews. All in all, a great pub, great food, drinks and staff, but we'd recommend you book if eating in the restaurant, especially at busy times. Maybe see you there for the next Blues Bash!

Nestled at the far end of the harbor, Crab & Winkle is a hidden gem that offers an unforgettable dining experience. This charming eatery serves up fresh local seafood sourced directly from the nearby harbor market, allowing guests to savor exquisite fish and oysters while enjoying stunning views from its outdoor terrace. Operated by the renowned Whitstable Oyster Company, diners can indulge in their freshly harvested oysters and even sample their unique oyster stout.
Now this was a surprise. To get in you have to ring a door bell, sounds like a bit of a speakeasy, a staff member let's you in your taken upstairs, temperature checked, very reassuring and then the experience beginnings. The view over the harbour is fantastic back drop, the staff are very helpful, friendly, know what they are talking about and the food is amazing for people who really like sea food this is the tops, well worth a visit, we spoke to the owner who gave a very knowledgeable account of the area which added to us "out of towners" experience. Thank you we will be back certainly worth the journey. Ps octopus was brilliant
Lex K — Google review
I could've given star plus, plus for the rating! Never dined in a fish restaurant like this before! We tried our first natural oysters! For the main, had my best brown crab. Not that often we can get octopus claws in a fish restaurant unless you go to a Greek restaurant in England. Mussels were amazing too! In addition to this, every staff member was so friendly and helpful! We were glad we found it to celebrate our wedding anniversary!
Kumudu S — Google review
The restaurant is ideally located right by the harbour. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful. The food itself is delicious, especially the oysters. It isn't super cheap but well worth it. Overall Crab & Winkle was definitely the highlight of our day trip to Whitstable.

I was a little nervous when I arrived because of the reviews I read. To my surprise the service was very good. From the time they received us till the time we left. The food; prepared crab - definitely not fresh. Scallops blew my mind, lobster Thermidor was brilliant, the skate wing was fresh and beautiful. This was a good experience
Kenneth P — Google review
Great value for money, added to my list "to go back" . Seafood fresh and some audacious recipes, like black pudding and scallops. Our octopus was a bit overcooked, which compromise the 5star.
Alessandro S — Google review
We enjoyed a leisurely lunch at the Crab and Winkle on a blustery and bracing Sunday afternoon. We arrived without a reservation but they were able to accommodate my party of three. After signing in our contact details in line with current COVID guidelines. We were shown to our booth by the very friendly staff. The staff were well catered for in terms of Covid PPE and the face screens they used made for good communication and eye contact. The menu was good and we decided to enjoy a lovely Gavi Di Gavi while we perused the menu. We selected the Mussels as a starter along with the Seafood platter Selection. These where delivered promptly, fresh and very tasty. Special mention for the very good Olive bread too. For our mains we all had the Bouillabaisse which was very good, plentiful and arrived hot. My only complaint would be the langoustines which were very small and not pre dressed so we found quite fiddly to get at the meat. The finger bowls provided were therefore very handy. However the whole Bouillabaisse was very good and portions of the ingredients were large and plentiful. Once again the olive bread was excellent with the soup. We also enjoyed a portion of chips and a portion of the Samphire which were very good too. We then enjoyed the Cream Brulee along and the Chocolate Box and Ice cream as our choice of desserts. Both were very good and especially the Chocolate Box which was excellent. We finally finished our meal with Coffee, an Expresso and a nice Cognac. The whole meal was very good. The staff were young but very friendly and helpful. The bill was a pleasant surprise at how reasonable it was. The ambiance of the restaurant we found enjoyable with good spacing and Covid guidelines in place. We certainly will be looking to revisit the Crab and Winkle when next we are in Whistable.

We had lunch here today to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was great, very tasty and the service was excellent, Katy was very attentive and accommodating. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. We choose prawns in red Thai curry sauce and scallops without the hammock croquette as I don't eat meat. We then had confit shoulder of lamb and stonebass, and we managed to find room for a vanilla parfait and a chocolate delice. Only one coffee as they unfortunately don't do decaffeinated. The Kent white wine was delicious and the cider had a good balance to it. We look forward to eating here again.

I just got my order and the box was partly open and my chips were missing I had about 5 chips in rhe box. £15 for cod and 5 chips, not impressed at all! Wonderful seafood Resteraunt - elegant a la carte service - well cooked and presented food - only marked the atmosphere down as there was one particularly loud guest who seemed to have little consideration for others in the room which slightly spoiled a birthday meal, as the dining room was all open plan there was no hiding from anyone else’s noise - otherwise perfect evening

I’ve waited years to go here. Fish on the Green has always had a great reputation and I finally got round to trying it with family. This place does not disappoint. Delicious food (try the monkfish) and lovely staff. Can’t wait to return and try more from the menu!

We had a lovely meal and would recommend the restaurant. The only negative comment is it's very noisy. I appreciate that its a small space, but they would benefit from some from of screening/soft furnishings to absorb noise. It's not put us off from a return visit.

The lady who greeted us was excellent. She made us feel very welcome & explained how long we would need to wait for food. I explained that I am diabetic and that may prove an issue so she said that she would try to get the food out as soon as possible. The food did in fact arrive quicker than originally stated. It was all excellent too! We were very impressed as we had stopped going to this pub due to previous poor experiences. I have told many people since how amazing the pie was.... full to brimming with meat so next time I may ask for extra gravy to compensate for there not being enough room for much sauce! Not keen on mash so a great sub for lovely chips & the veg was amazing too. My husband was equally impressed with his mixed grill too. We don't go out as much as we used to and were encouraged by the 40% off mains voucher through our door.

We had such a lovely experience thanks to our waitress! She was friendly, attentive, and made us feel really welcome from the moment we sat down. Nothing was too much trouble — she checked in at just the right times without being intrusive. It’s rare to come across service that feels so genuine. She really added a personal touch to our evening. Thank you for making our meal so enjoyable! Unfortunately we forgot her name but she had blonde hair and we were sat at table 48.

The food was outstanding! It was myself, husband, 14yr old and 7yr old. Our two children term the main menu not the kids menu. We had 3 steaks, cooked perfectly, and the bacon chop, also cooked to perfection. The triple cooked chips were exceptional. Our waiter was attentive, and thank goodness you train your staff properly not to clear the table until everyone is finished. So many other pub/bistros we have been too just tell their staff to clear empty plates (or haven’t trained them at all!). Clean everywhere, nice toilets (this is also important in my opinion), friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. Our whole experience was amazing- it was for our 14yr olds birthday, and it didn’t disappoint. Thank you!

Peters Fish Factory in Margate is a popular spot for seafood lovers with 4.5-star ratings from consumers and nearly 500 reviews. The queue can be long, but reviewers say the generous portions and delicious fish make it worth it. Some people recommend bringing a newspaper to sit on as there are often seagulls around.
The queue length alone tells you that Peter's is great fish and chips! Had just chips today, lovely hot and fresh. Have previously had fish/sausage and also very nice. Good selection of cold drinks in the fridge inside. We sat on the outside seating, but served in boxes so easy enough to eat on the beach or elsewhere. Reasonable prices, particularly for location. 100% recommend and worth the wait

One of the best fish and chips places we have been to. The fish (Haddock) was fresh, battered was thin and crispy. Scampi was equally great. Very generous portions. Great price. They also do a Lite bite Cod and chips portion for £5.95! Really great value. Chips were crispy and not like some chippy who used the oil for too long or soggy chips. Mushy peas was really good too… creamy and not too salty. Service was good and polite. This is the chippy that partnered with Fortnam in the summer and known as Fortnam-on-sea. So there is certain standard. They also sell Fortnam labeled water. Then we sat by the sea on outdoor tables. Really great experience! Highly recommended. 👍

I take my fish and chips seriously and I will say this is the best quality and value fish and chips I’ve had in a long time - delicious and so reasonably priced! Just enough portion wise that we all finished it but weren’t uncomfortably full. There aren’t many places where you can still get a decent portion of fish and chips for only £6.95! The way it should be enjoyed :)

Has been one of the best fish and chip shops to which I've been. Fair prices and a fair portion. Their cod is usually cooked to perfection, but today mine was a bit soggy. Get there early on a nice day, because the queue will become long quite quickly. Today I queued for about 45 minutes for a Large Cod and Chips. Don't regret it, but wish my cod was crispier.

The Peter Cushing is a spacious pub located in a converted art deco cinema. Offering traditional British cuisine and an extensive selection of real ales, it provides a unique dining experience. This beautifully restored cinema now serves as a Wetherspoons pub, with its own app for convenient ordering. The venue is family-friendly with a children's menu and also welcomes dogs.
Beautiful building with great food. Wetherspoons has done a fantastic job in taking on and making use of these beautiful buildings and serving a wide array of delicious and very very reasonable priced foods. Great service as always and the staff are so fast and efficient no matter which Wetherspoons we have visited over the country 💕
Ayfisher — Google review
Pros: The food was very affordable and was good. The beer prices were insanely low, I literally couldn't believe it. I've attached a photo showing that you can get a pint of Abbot Ale for £1.99. That is much cheaper than I paid for the same pint of beer when I visited England in 2008. Wetherspoons gets a bad rap locally as being kind of the McDonald's of pubs. But this particular location had a lot of character, being converted from an old theater. I had an English breakfast here, and I had an Indian curry dinner here on another visit. All the food I had was not just acceptable for the price, but exceeded all my expectations. Con : this venue does not provide the same pub feel as any of the other pubs in town. At all the other pubs in Whitstable, I was able to easily strike up friendly conversation with the staff and with the local customers. I also understand that the other pubs in town are good places to seek work or to seek workers to get a job done. There seems to be no such sense of community at this particular venue. Everyone was drinking alone with the dead eyes of a shark, and refusing any attempt to engage in banter or conversation. It seems like a lot of people come here to be alone and to eat and drink at the cheapest price possible. I would describe the vibe as being similar to that of a school cafeteria. Overall, despite the good food and the incredible prices, I would recommend patronizing the true local pubs of this town.

I decided to try the Peter Cushing for a Friday evening and have fish and chips with peas. Food was good, service was good and staff were very polite and there were plenty of tables available. Loved the art decor vibe and the fantastic bar and all the old cinema machinery in the entrance foyer and the beautiful coloured glass windows. The front of the building has been beautifully restored and maintained and is a great entrance to this venue. Front seating and a larger back area seating area is available to sit outside. Toilets are up stairs near the main entrance when you come in. Pay Parking is available at the rear to the building in Shaftesbury rd Whitstable. Pay with Ringo available.

Really disappointed with my visit. My chips were cold, my sons Korean burger was abysmal and my sons pizza was served not cut up and no pizza cutter provided only a serrated steak knife which was a nightmare to use on the plate the pizza was served on. Portions were odd.
Carla H — Google review
Staying locally we decided to try The Peter Cushing. Good service, varied menu and all at a great price. I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Being an old cinema it is huge inside, plenty of tables spaced far enough apart so you have some privacy.
Sue R — Google review
My girlfriend placed an order at the bar due to our outside table (1 out of 3 in total tables outside) not having a number, while the bartender tried to convince her that all the tables outside had numbers and we “may not get out food” - despite asking for help to find out what the table number was. After a 25 minutes wait, the server arrived with our food telling us he “had looked for us everywhere” - inside, and the food had been sent to the back, before coming out again. Our food was delivered half cold, but we ate it anyway as we had been waiting 25 minutes and were too hungry to send it back, only to have to wait again not knowing if or when it would be served.

Whitstable Castle and Gardens is a charming destination tucked away amidst lush greenery with stunning views of the sea. The historic castle, although not an actual fortress, boasts impressive architecture and offers panoramic coastal vistas from its rooftop terrace. The well-maintained gardens provide a serene setting for leisurely strolls or relaxation, with benches to enjoy the sunshine and a welcoming tea room serving refreshments.
We expected a castle and gardens to spend hours in. Arrived, needing tea and breakfast, the cafe was clean and friendly. We chose to sit outside, just ahead of the breakfast rush. Things got busy, but still enjoyable as the tables are not too close to each other. Top tip. Ask for your bacon well done. Food was good. Coffee was ok. When's we decided it was time to explore.... We were leaving half an hour later. The tour guide was having the morning off, so we couldn't see the house. The gardens are very small, but still quite beautiful.

The Whitstable castle looks stunning from outside but unfortunately it was closed for visitors due to an event. The garden is beautiful with play area for kids.

The Castle has a rich history dating back to the 17th century. The castle with its garden is an exquisite place to visit and walk around in the open public park. There is a cafe in the castle with sitting areas both inside and outside. We have tea while having seats outside and enjoying the wonderful views that the place has to offer. This is definitely a wild experience which is a must try while visiting Whitstable. There is a rose garden behind the castle which is well maintained and full of blooms.

This is a place to pass through and maybe stop for a cup of tea. Its not really a castle more of an interesting folly. Nice gardens with some unusual plants.
Andy H — Google review
Sadly when we visited there was a wedding so we couldn't look around the castle inside. It was a lot smaller than I expected and the parking signs were confusing all saying permit holders but all you do is put your registration in at reception. Pleasant grounds but we didn't stay long.
Shelagh P — Google review
Attractive castle set amongst landscaped gardens. The building doesn't have the long history of many defensive castles, but makes up for this with a striking appearance. Colourful, well maintained flowerbeds and tropical plants give the gardens an inviting feel, and there's seating around the front of the castle to sit and enjoy refreshments. The rose garden is a particular highlight in early summer. There's a small amount of on-site parking available for disabled visitors, and otherwise plenty of space along the road overlooking Tankerton slopes. Information boards around the castle grounds and in the gatehouse explain more about the site's history.

Having enjoyed wonderful service from Maddie for years with my husband and late dad I am sorry to say we shall never be back. As someone who is retired and lives in between my overseas homes and uk I have stayed and dined in top class restaurants and hotels and know what a coffee smells, looks like etc. we previously loved the service from Maddie. Amazing lady who goes above and beyond. We waited 30 mins for two decaf coffees and a piece of cake. I had to chase for them. There was an aftertaste of detergent and therefore I asked for new coffees. I was told by a rather obnoxious young lady? that it was because it was decaf ! I explained we’d been here for years and never had a decaf coffee like today. After a chat the more mature man offered two non decaf. These were brought to us by the obnoxious lady who told us how important she was as a previous coffee barista and spend 5 mins telling us how wrong we were and it was not the coffees fault !! The replacement cups again tasted exactly the same so we left them almost full. Hence after 10 years we say goodbye. Slow service and young staff who have no etiquette and think they are right about it all ! So long and good luck !!

Franks Restaurant and Mussel Bar is located in a charming 16th-century building with an inviting atmosphere, complete with an open fire and exposed beams. The restaurant specializes in offering over 20 different types of mussels, available on Monday and Thursday nights with creative flavor combinations such as Pirri Pirri tomato, blue cheese, or goat cheese and honey. In addition to their extensive mussel selection, the restaurant also offers a diverse range of starters, main courses, and desserts.
Wonderful evening, friendly and efficient staff, fabulous food, lovely atmosphere. We shared a starter and cheese board as the mains are plentiful. Beef bourguignon delicious and bacon and brie mussels platter was amazing
Sandra — Google review
We came here because of its reputation with mussels. We weren’t disappointed overall. The mussels are so plump, juicy and plentiful. We had 4 different sauces, but the photos ended up all looking the same! What I liked was the sauce was full of herbs and finely chopped vegetables, really generous. The sauces were pretty good, but there are too many to choose from. The scallop starter was really tasty and soft, with a beautiful tasting sauce. The fried whitebait was also good. The squid was a little on the overcooked side, but entirely satisfactory. The desserts, apart from the creme brûlée (which was as you would want it, crispy top and really smooth vanilla custard) were underwhelming. The pancakes were cold (not sure why) and the raspberry tart tasted overly sweet and just not very nice, with less than mediocre pastry. You can’t go wrong with the seafood.

This restaurant has been on my radar for absolutely years and I finally got there! And, wow, did it exceed my expectations. Yes, it's a little pricey but the location, the building, the service and the food more than make up for it however, I would say, this is a place that's definitely reserved for a special occasion. I went for the classic mussels with white wine and cream but the choice of mussels dishes is quite large, about 15 to 20 I think. There's other more traditional foods like steak if you're not into mussels, again a nice varied menu. I had tap water so I can't comment on the alcohol but there was a good selection to choose from. Another table requested to try two wines as they couldn't decide which one to have and the server brought a sample of both so the decision could be made. I've not seen many places do that nowadays. All in all, a great restaurant, great food, no complaints here, just compliments all round.

We don’t eat Mussels (although the Mussel menu had an amazing selection!), but visited and there were plenty of other options on the menu. Beef Bourguignon was delicious, it was rich, with a reasonable portion and tender meat. Great selection of drinks, wine was lovely and service was friendly and attentive. Nice atmosphere and will definitely return… although we really miss the Sunday roasts from years ago, they were always our favourite place for a Sunday!!

Married to a Mussel lover this fantastic restaurant offered not only 22 different types of mussel dishes but also a great starter and main course range and a dessert menu we were too full to test. We attended in a Wednesday lunch and hadn't booked but were treated pleasantly upon arrival. The building is beautifully kept and provides a great atmosphere for a meal and chat. We took a table next to the window so we could also people watch. The portions were very generous but quality also exceptional. I would definitely return many times and would highly recommend.

After waiting some time without any attention from the wait-staff, I ordered crispy-fried duck as a starter. This was much too thickly cut and smothered with a very sweet sauce. It smelt and tasted nothing like duck. I then ordered a bowl of mussels. These were well cooked, but their sauce had little flavour and the overall smell was unappetizing. The wine we ordered had a cork instead of a screw-top, which the waitress didn't seem to have encountered before! Much of the evening was spent trying to attract attention, either to place our order or get a bill.

What a great place. We visited for the first time and enjoyed the Whitebait and the Courgette Fritters to start with. The Sea Bass was great and the Cajun mussels were amazing. We finished with Creme Brulé which was lovely. Would definitely recommend and will come back again soon.

Mucini is a charming family-owned Italian restaurant that offers a wide range of authentic Italian dishes made with locally-sourced ingredients. The menu features an array of options including gluten-free pasta, seafood, chicken, beef, and vegetable dishes. Guests can also enjoy a selection of wines, spirits, and beers to complement their meals. Visitors have praised the attentive staff and the welcoming atmosphere. The chef-owner's personal attention to food preparation has been highlighted as well.
We ended up here while visiting Whitstable for the weekend and had a lovely meal! The lamb was so good, meatballs tasty and the best cheesy garlic bread ever. The staff were all so lovely. Oh and the apple tiramisu was so good - especially as I've never had tiramisu since it always has coffee in it. Really recommend coming here for the lovely old school feel. Thank you for a great welcome in Whitstable 😍

The best place you can eat in the area. Very friendly staff, awesome owner, best food. I'm not in the area often, but since I've discovered the place a year ago, every time I was around I did my best to come around. Defo recommend for the ones trying to find a different culinary experience in the area!

Lovely family-run Italian restaurant with a kids' menu. The pasta was really lovely: I had a seafood linguine and the wife had a clam linguine. The chocolate fondant was excellent too!

Poor service, absolutely shocking. Food was very slow in coming, over an hour in getting our mains, but to be fair was delicious and fresh on arrival. It seemed that preferential customers were served first. There was the chef cooking and serving, only one waitress. The owner, he was the chef, was engaging and made us feel welcome. Having to pay cash in this modern world us not welcoming though. Not to t return this restaurant in a hurry. .

A proper Italian restaurant. A great find. Lunch today, 3 of us. Impeccable service, every detail in the dishes absolutely perfect. Lots of choice in the menu (no pizza, I'm very glad to say), so plenty to go back for. Not cheap but expertly crafted and delivered food. Decor a bit dated and cash only, which is unexpected in this day and age.

The risotto was undercooked and the older lady who serves here is the most unfriendliest person. The atmosphere felt inadequate, and its cash only or bank transfer!!!!

What a gorgeous experience. We were greeted at the door but a happy lovely attentive young man who took us to our seats. We are a pain and wanted to change some bits on the dishes, which was no problem to them at all. The bruschetta was out of this world and my king prawn linguine was cooked perfection with loads of flavour. I loved being able to see the chef who is also the owner cook the meals and he came and personally wanted to see how our food was. Highly recommend. Can’t wait to try the tapas menu!

Located in Margate, Angela's is a charming and unassuming bistro that prides itself on offering locally sourced and sustainable seafood, as well as vegetarian options. The restaurant is committed to serving ethically sourced MSC certified seafood and seasonal vegetable-based dishes while striving for sustainability in both its ingredients and everyday practices. Visitors can expect a cozy atmosphere with an emphasis on reducing waste that would otherwise end up in landfills.
Amazing fish restaurant in Margate with a menu based on the freshly caught fish. The fish was prepared deliciously and had a fabulous soft bite. The staff was extremely friendly as one of our party had difficulty coping with the music in the restaurant they kindly turned it down. Definitely recommend going here!

I had lunch at this restaurant recently and had a great experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made for a nice start. Everything I tried was delicious, but the highlight for me was the halibut and glazed carrots - perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I also enjoyed a very good orange wine by the glass, which paired beautifully with the dish. A great find that I’d definitely recommend.

One of the best Seafood restaurants in the UK! If you are in Margate and you love fish this place is a MUST! Lovely little restaurant with amazing service and some of the best food I've had! The fish is so fresh and cooked to perfection! Everything here is delicious, from the drinks to the bread, you won't regret it! Highly recommended!

We went for a family dinner after spending a day in Margate. Firstly booking is essential. The establishment is small and they rarely have room for walk-ins. You also can't be too early if you have a reservation. Menu to the point but you need to be a seafood lover otherwise it's not the restaurant for you. Service was great. Ready to answer questions and generally helpful. There's no kids menu but they offer white fish, potatoes and greens...at least on the day we visited. Menu is seasonal and daily. Starters are better £10-12, mains from £20 and desserts from £10. We went all out so our bill was rather hefty. So be prepared. They did add service charge and a donation to their charity of choice which I would say added £30 between these two items. The dishes themselves were absolutely delicious. From starters to desserts there's nothing we could fault with anything. We are a family that drinks mainly water so most of the cost was food. I would highly recommend for at least one visit or for a special occasion or if you just have more money to splurge than we do. You certainly won't be disappointed. My children said we could make it an annual event 😂. So go and enjoy yourself even if your pockets will be a little lighter!
Melinda ( — Google review
This is the second time we have visited Angela's and it has been a delight both times. High quality fresh fish cooked in simple yet interesting and satisfying ways. None of their sauces contain flour, therefore all of their main dishes were gluten free, or could be made gluten free. Unfortunately, they don't offer gluten free bread, but this doesn't have a huge impact on the menu choices available to people who are gluten free, as bread isn't a very common feature anyway. You need to book before you visit, as both times we have come the restaurant has been full. In addition to all this, they also have a great alcohol free house made wine.
Zoe C — Google review
Overall, the food was okay the starters were better than the main courses. The mains were far too greasy and hard to finish. When I got home and looked back at the receipt, I was surprised to find that we’d been charged for two prawn dishes even though we only ordered one. It really left a bad impression ,such a shame.
W W — Google review
Really enjoyed our visit to Angela’s! Standout dishes were the scallops, crab on toast and the chocolate cake. Would highly recommend for a nice evening meal
Ross L — Google review
For starters we had the scallops and the smoked prawns. Both were pleasant. The prawns really did have a strong smoke to them and were both of our preference of the two. For mains we had the monkfish and skate with "chorizo". Both were on the bone. The cooking of the fish was well executed. Other options included hake, bass and a vegetarian plate. There was no turbot or lemon sole today. We ordered some greens to accompany the mains. We had eaten plenty enough and opted for no dessert, but the flourless chocolate cake was a tempting option. We heard another table say how pleased they were they tried the lemon posset. Our total was £92.40 for 2 people and included a donation of £1pp to a local charity they support. Service charge was 10% and automatically added. We were able to pay by Amex. It's a small independent business, but popular. It was quite busy even on a Tuesday lunchtime in early June. We came around 1.15pm and they said they could accommodate us around 1.30pm, so they took our number and a name and rang us when a table was ready. There's the main room as you come in and more seating behind. The toilet is just outside at the back. It's clean, has hand wash and hand lotion and is not cramped. Nestled at the end of Hythe's promenade, The Lazy Shack is a delightful family-run café that promises a warm welcome and an array of mouthwatering dishes. From the daily squid special to classic battered fish and chips, there's something for everyone. Don't miss their standout scallop and bacon baguette or the innovative vegan fish and chips made with banana blossom in homemade batter.
Great location. Great service. Great breakfast. We stopped here for breakfast on our first day on holiday and what can I say it was really nice. The location of the Lazy Shack and especially its outdoor seating area are right on the beach with an unspoiled view across the sea. Dog and family friendly. We ordered our meals at the tables when the friendly waitress came over and got everything perfect for us. Reasonable prices for delicious food. We liked everything about the Lazy Shack and definitely recommend it. They don’t have a car park but you can park on the street at the sea front.

A hidden gem on the beachfront. This cozy, calm, and comfortable restaurant offers the perfect indoor dining experience with nice lighting, decor and seating. It features really nice, inviting, clean, well cared for tables that are beautifully designed and fit the mood. My favourite part was the old themed memes on the walls which allowed for fantastic conversation starters. We found the menu to be of perfect size with plenty of choices for seafood lovers, or not (lots of other choices) and was surprised to hear they have their own butchers/ fishmongers/ shop on the other side of the restaurant, so knew the food was fresh and well cooked. The service was fantastic, very polite staff and each and every one of them was busy with something- clearly working very hard and care lots for this establishment. Really fair and reasonable pricess too. I would say the portions were of a good size, but wished the lobster was bigger, otherwise think this restaurant is a good find. They also had loads of outside seating on the beachfront. Parking on the road just down from the restaurant, clean toilets, good disabled entrance, family friendly or great for any occasion with others.

During the course of the 25 minute wait for our order to be taken, we noticed the notice. Payment was taken along with our order so we couldn't escape during the subsequent 40 yes 40 minute wait for our food to arrive. Crab was delicious. Lobster was tiny, only just making the 87mm landing limit (for ref, a credit card is 85mm). Generous to a fault with salad and chips, but these should not be the main event.

Myself and my family stayed at Penny Lodge for my wedding eve celebrations. It was a lovely unique vinted house with traditional furniture, with 3 large bedrooms and sofa bed in the lounge you couldn't ask fir anything more. Staff had left the place spotless with cold cans of water in the fridge, coffee, tea and sugar were supplied and for that extra touch individual packets were there for our arrival. Billingsgate Market is a must-visit destination for seafood lovers and culinary adventurers alike. As the largest fish market in the UK, it opens its doors from 4 am to 8 am, Tuesday through Saturday, inviting both trade customers and enthusiastic foodies to experience its vibrant atmosphere. With over 150 species of fresh seafood available, visitors can immerse themselves in the lively banter of traders while exploring an impressive array of exotic fish from around the world.
This market reminds me of Tsukiji in Japan, in the best way. Everyone is friendly and an expert in their particular type of seafood, and the variety is great! We were spoiled for choice and went around the market many times before making a decision. They also have a small cafe at the corner if you choose to have breakfast after a long morning of seafood shopping! Also - don’t forget to bring your own bag!

The best place to buy fish at a good price compared to supermarkets. Every time we go there, after buying everything we need, we go to the cafeteria and enjoy a good breakfast. Everything is delicious and the value for money is very good. Even if you don't want to buy fishing, it's worth going for delicious breakfast.

Great place to buy fresh fish, crab, squid, prawns and octopus. Best price in London. Regardless of its opening times this place gets extremely busy the earlier the better, parking can be found but not easy after 5 am almost all parking slots are taken. I didn’t see they do fish cleaning service which would be nice to have on site.
Flavian D — Google review
Exceptionally fresh fish! Lovely vibe of hustle and bustle, can get really good deals, they have fish and seafood I’ve never seen in any other markets around London which is amazing. Traders are very helpful and cheerful. I was devastated to hear it is closing down in 2028, as it holds a huge historic value to the UK. It’s a real shame and loss to the culture.

Billingsgate Fish Market is a fantastic place for fresh seafood, offering a wide variety of fish and shellfish at great prices. The quality is excellent, and you can find almost anything you’re looking for. However, for the best selection, you really need to arrive early—around 5 AM is ideal—since the freshest and most popular items go fast. The market is bustling in the early hours, and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful if you need advice. Parking can be a bit tricky if you arrive later in the morning, and it gets crowded by mid-morning. Overall, a great experience for seafood lovers, but be prepared for an early start!

From the sea to the plate via billingsgate !! That’s how fresh the fish is … ideal if you can pool in and buy with friends. The early morning trip is worth every penny ! And don’t forget to get some prawns when you are there ! PS : Keep an eye out for the offers and always haggle !

An historic piece of London, well worth a visit. Bulk buy fish at great prices and huge choice. Go very early, even on a Saturday as a number of traders are packing up by 7am. Take in the atmosphere, and visit the legendary cafe (inside, in the corner) for a fish/seafood breakfast or full English

This market is just amazing. Such a huge variety of quality seafood, the atmosphere itself and the hardworking fishermen/fishmongers - not to mention the great prices (as long as you have room in your freezer). Guests can also indulge in a selection of fine wines to complement their meal. The attentive and knowledgeable staff make excellent recommendations for both food and drinks.
We booked a table here as we were passing Margate, and so glad we did. There was a really nice, relaxed vibe during our lunch and the team were very friendly. The food was delicious and fresh, although we were not blown away by pork and fennel sausage special. The squid sandwich was definitely our favourite! The wine list was extensive and really enjoyed the wines of tap. Would definitely recommend

It’s a great concept and a brilliant service! The staff are more than capable of recommending a wine to your liking. Fresh seafood is great! I’d only say don’t bother checking the menu ahead of the visit cause they change it quite regularly but one thing you can be sure of is that the food is great! Book ahead cause it’s tough to get a seat without a reservation. Enjoy! 😊

The food was really delicious. The guy at the bar who served us was attentive and friendly. The place itself was cozy and interesting. The anchovies were unforgettable. It would be nice to have a bit more attention when sending off guests, at least to say goodbye. The girl standing by the door failed to do that.

We were in Margate for the weekend and had lunch here with our young daughter, it was fantastic. The food was excellent, every dish well balanced and full of flavour (the sardines on toast were a standout). Drinks were just as good, with a great wine list and inventive cocktails. The staff were friendly, relaxed, and knowledgeable, and the whole place has a lovely atmosphere. Prices are more in line with London, but as Londoners we felt it was worth it for the quality. We’d already loved their sister restaurant, Brawn, and this lived up to it. Highly recommended! We’ll be back!
Anna P — Google review
We had high hopes for this restaurant, and while the food truly delivered - fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented - our experience unfortunately started off on the wrong foot. We arrived at 11:55 AM, just five minutes before opening, due to our hotel check-out time and with our luggage in tow. It was lightly drizzling, and we simply asked if we could sit and wait inside. Instead, we were met with a rather curt response from the hostess, who told us to come back at 12 noon. When I asked politely if we could just sit and wait (not be served), we were told no, because she needed time to clean tables and put music on. It felt unnecessarily rigid - even a small gesture like letting us wait quietly outside under the parasols with a couple of stools would have gone a long way. To make matters a bit more awkward, our Google reservation didn’t go through (I hadn't received a confirmation email), but she did allow us to sit once noon struck. Still, we didn’t feel particularly welcomed. I was there with my mother, who had traveled all the way from Amman, and it felt uncomfortable - almost as if we were an inconvenience rather than potential guests. What stood out even more was that the same hostess was noticeably warm and accommodating to other guests who arrived later, moving tables and assisting them with ease and a smile. It's a shame because the kitchen deserves all the praise - the dishes were fantastic and clearly made with care. But hospitality is more than just the food. Sadly, the lack of warmth at the door overshadowed the meal for us, and despite how delicious everything was, I don't think we'll be returning. The other hostess that took our order was lovely though. We apologise for arriving 5 minutes before opening, that’s a warning for any future visitors - only arrive at noon+

Very friendly staff, great vibes and we were lucky getting outdoor seats on a sunny day. The food was great especially the sausage and fried courgette. The place is perfect for light lunch/drink. Decent toilet for customers considering the location. Not a lot of seats & can get busy in the weekend so book in advance if you can!

We were blown away by sargasso. We hadn’t booked and the team (although it was almost full) made it work. We sat at the counter and the team were so engaging and really knew their stuff. We went because of one particular dish, which then wasn’t on the menu but our disappointment was gone as soon as we had our first dish. I know we will talk about it for a long time. The soft serve machine is fun and delicious, the seafood is predictably fantastic, our cocktails and wine were wonderful. We were just so impressed with the intelligent and thoughtful cooking. A Margate MUST visit.
Charlotte A — Google review
Just exquisite....one of the best meals we've had in a long time both for the food, and the setting/ atmosphere. Perfectly cooked and beautifully balanced, the wine selection is also first class.

If you're in Whitstable, don't miss the West Whelks / Whitstable Harbour Oyster Store, a delightful spot for seafood lovers. This charming establishment offers an authentic experience with its fresh oysters and delectable whitebait, making it a must-visit for anyone craving local flavors. The atmosphere is inviting and perfect for enjoying a meal while soaking in the coastal vibe.
Tried my very first oyster here and it was such a fun experience! The Whitstable Harbour Oyster Shack is right by the harbour near the yacht club, and it’s the perfect little spot to soak up the atmosphere. The staff were friendly and happy to explain how to enjoy oysters, and you can really taste how fresh they are — straight from the sea. I’ll definitely remember this as the place where my oyster adventure began!
Summer B — Google review
Whitebait 10/10 Squid ring 9/10 (I think this was mixed with flour but I loved it like this) Crab claw 5/10 (this was also mixed with flour) Battered and breaded prawn 7/10 Lobster tail 1/10 (this is cold and mixed with flour, was not tasty!) Overall would definitely come back for the hot plate mix and the white bait. The white bait was deeeelicious!
C M — Google review
Cheapest and freshest oysters in Whitstable. We had half a dozen, crab claws and bay shrimp. Great value, fast service, and fresh. It's a counter and take-away so traditional no frills and I think that's the best way to eat oysters in the area!
George H — Google review
“Lobster tails” are a straight up scam — they are fish cakes moulded into a lobster tail shape with food dye. So sad. It’s not disclosed that it’s not real lobster. Literal scam.
Huey — Google review
Great value for money – £10 for six oysters, £18 for twelve, and £6 for whelks. The oysters were very fresh, the service was fast, and overall it was definitely worth it!
Steph C — Google review
I went there for oysters, I got my oysters. Not a fancy place though, it is not where you go for champagne and oysters, this is where you go to taste the sea.
Ted — Google review
Can't really beat the oysters here for freshness or costs. 6 for £10 is a steal!
Simon — Google review
Such unfortunate that it has gone down hill. Last October visit was great, friendly staffs and great service, all condiments and cutlery were available. This visit, nothing. Just a wedge of lemon. Not even a fork or pick to get that oysters in mouth without using hands. Young girls were alright but the manager seemed coffee time being disturbed. Shall not return.

Good menu, nice food. Unfortunately a lot of items on the menu were unavailable due to supply chain issues so I couldn't have what I wanted. Service was great. Our waitress was lovely, friendly and helpful.

We had a, great meal last night with 2 friends at the royal. The food was delicious, the curry I had was very tasty, highly recommend. The fish and chips were very good quality and 2, had steak & ale pie. All of an excellent quality. Staff are very happy & attentive, especially Tom, who is an amazing Manager. Worth joining the Birthday Club as you get free meal, and several emails with vouchers/offers. Lovely atmosphere in such a lovely setting right by the sea. Can't fault this royal

All the food we had was very good. Went there for a group of 6 and everyone’s meal looked delicious. I got the Fish and Chips which I think was the winner (I would say that though) and the chicken wings to start. But the pie looked good, pasta was awesome, tacos looked delicious - so many good options

The Royal is an absolute treasure, perfectly situated adjacent to the beautiful Tankerton Slopes, offering one of the most iconic and breathtaking views of Whitstable and Tankerton coastline. If you’re looking for a tranquil spot to unwind with a chilled beer or a refreshing drink, The Royal is the place to be. It’s the perfect spot to experience the most astonishing sunset with sundowners in hand — a truly unforgettable and magical experience, made even better by the sound of the sea and the peaceful surroundings. The food is delicious, with a great selection of dishes that pair wonderfully with their excellent choice of beers and spirits. The service is outstanding — always warm and welcoming. A special thank you to Tom, and Carly, who consistently go above and beyond to make every visit memorable. The Sea Farmer’s Dive Taproom is a charming and unpretentious bar located by the sea, offering a cozy indoor space with a fireplace and walls adorned with dive and seafaring-related items. It's an ideal spot to enjoy local and craft drinks while taking in the beachfront ambiance. Despite its lack of restroom facilities, visitors appreciate the quirky interior design featuring boat seat tables.
The sea farmers dive is an absolute treasure! Staff are very friendly and the ambiance is brilliant. A treasure in the heart of the sea front with a wide variety of local lagers and ales and of course oysters! A great place to add to your ‘go to’ list when visiting the area. The lager glasses were so nice we bought a few from their merchandise range! Will be back soon!

If you love a craft beer on the beach, you've come to the right place! Serving other drinks too, wine & soft drinks! Cosy family friendly interior with a nice atmosphere, tables, a fire, friendly knowledgeable staff and plenty of space outside to enjoy your drinks n snacks outside, take it in, relax and get some amazing views! Always a great selection of craft beers on tap as well a fridge stocked with locally brewed Whitstable beers and other craft beer - highly recommended for a visit, you'll be back in no time for more 😉🍻🤩😎

Deceptively large craft beer bar right on the sea front. Visited last night and enjoyed a Vault City sour whilst watching the sun set over the sea - heaven! Busy bar but with a welcoming and comfy feel. Great range of beers for all tastes. We will 100% be returning, I can imagine this is a brilliant place to go on a summer evening.

Pretty perfect for a pub in my eyes. A beautiful location, with a fantastic range of beers. From mismatched furniture to a roaring fire, it is filled with charm and character.
Stephen L — Google review
Hidden gem of Whitstable just in front of the beach. Found this place while walking at beach. Superb seaside atmosphere inside. I like the touch of boat seating and fire place to warm up after all day of walking on the sea front which makes the atmosphere more cosy. There’s a great selection of craft beers from famous breweries all over the UK and cider is not bad either. Knowledgeable staff n service was really cool too. Recommend if u around
Win T — Google review
Beautiful little pub. Wide range of beers. Very helpful staff. A pub id be visiting everytime I'm in Whitstable

Little craft beer place, close to the seafront. Good selection of beers (many local ones), a fridge with cans and bottles with the option to take away at discounted prices. Snacks and, most importantly, they serve the famous local oysters.

If you find yourself in Whitstable and have a penchant for craft beer, make sure to visit The Handsome Sam. This charming pub stands out with its impressive selection of both bottled and draft beers, alongside an array of ciders that cater to every taste. Known for its warm atmosphere and friendly service, The Handsome Sam is a beloved spot among locals and visitors alike. On a sunny weekend day when the beach can feel overcrowded, this welcoming ale house offers a refreshing escape.
I love the Handsome Sam. It's a no nonsense ale house with great charm, friendly service and great cask ales. I tried the beer flight of three halves, then settled on a pint of 4.2% Bexley Own Beer. Please take your time to wander over as its a lovely detour from the town centre 🙂

What a great little place this is. Just a few barrels of local brew’s at excellent prices. We really enjoyed our pint and the guy serving us was very helpful and friendly, even offering table service to everyone. Quirky interior and certainly would recommend it for a pint or two. Cheers

Perfect small brewery with really helpful staff and customers. I have a mobility scooter, and everyone helped! Knowledgeable barman and very kind.
Sharman D — Google review
A wonderfully local, micro-pub. Perfect for a few drinks at the end of a long day, or to meet with friends or colleagues without the hustle and bustle of the main seafront spots. The staff were amazing and it's such a cosy old building. I love little places like this! ❤️
Adam D — Google review
stumbled upon The Handsome Sam by searching Google, when in Whitstable, the weekend day very warm, places by the beach over crowded, which not suiting me. I got a warm welcome by the landlady, had a couple of pints called Hoppy Ale. I'm glad places like this exist, I'm always glad to give them my custom, they don't do food, just drinks. If you ever in Whitstable, drop in, it's

Shoppers rave about the exceptional customer service, with staff going above and beyond to assist with sizing and color choices. Many have shared their positive experiences, highlighting quick online orders delivered promptly along with personal touches like handwritten notes.
If I could live here I would! Pile me up a bundle of faux fur jackets, slip me on some bamboo socks and top me up with a cuppa in a Rice cup of many colours!! This place is absolute heaven for colour magpies and if I could bottle the experience and wear it as a fragrance it would be sweet cherry and rose with neroli and sandalwood on the side as a cute candle and diffuser set 🤣🫶🏻 I bought a few bits to take home and I wish I’d bought the Roka bag I’d spotted too now… what a tonic Whitstable’s The Whiting Post is for the weary xxx

No hot water the whole weekend. We contacted the two numbers given on several occasions and texted but no response. We thought they probably knew that the hot water wasn’t working. Cold showers not fun 😔
