Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, also known as the Lavra, is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed Orthodox Christian monastery complex in Kyiv. It features ornate religious buildings such as the Dormition Church, refectory, and bell tower. One of its main attractions is the network of underground catacombs where mummified remains of former monks are laid to rest.
As one of the seven wonders of Ukraine, this monastery is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Saint Sophia Cathedral. Situated in Kiev, it is a monastic complex famed for its buried monks, spiritual atmosphere, and unique underground caves. Make sure you go up the stairs to enjoy a nice view over the city and panoramic view on the church from the towers.

A lot can be said about this place, but it is better to come and see everything yourself. It is difficult for me to imagine where else in the world there are so many historical buildings, caves, museums, icons in one territory. And indeed the place that is full of history. Just go to the free part, if you like it, you can come on Sunday and get into the "museum" part for free too.
Kir V — Google review
Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, also known as the Kyiv Monastery of the Caves, is one of Ukraine's most revered religious and cultural landmarks. Perched on the picturesque hills overlooking the Dnipro River in the Pechersk district of Kyiv, this UNESCO World Heritage site is a stunning example of Eastern Orthodox monastic architecture and a place of profound spiritual significance. Founded in 1051 by St. Anthony of Kyiv, the Lavra began as a humble cave monastery and grew into a vast complex of churches, bell towers, and subterranean catacombs. The history of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is deeply intertwined with the spread of Christianity in the region, serving as a spiritual center for Eastern Orthodoxy and a cradle of monasticism in Kievan Rus. Over the centuries, it has been a focal point of religious life, attracting pilgrims from across the Orthodox world. The architectural beauty of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is breathtaking. The complex is dominated by the Great Lavra Belltower, which soars to a height of 96.5 meters, making it one of the tallest bell towers in the world. The golden domes of the Dormition Cathedral, which was rebuilt after being destroyed during World War II, gleam in the sunlight, creating a striking contrast against the blue skies of Kyiv. The interior of the churches is adorned with exquisite frescoes, mosaics, and icons, reflecting the rich artistic tradition of the Orthodox Church. Beneath the Lavra's surface lies a network of catacombs, where the mummified remains of saints, monks, and notable figures from Ukrainian history are interred. These underground passages are a place of pilgrimage, with visitors coming to venerate the relics and experience the serene, otherworldly atmosphere of the caves. Culturally, Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is a symbol of Ukraine's religious heritage and national identity. It has played a crucial role in the preservation and dissemination of Orthodox Christian traditions, theological scholarship, and religious art. The Lavra continues to be an active monastery, home to a community of monks who maintain the centuries-old spiritual practices that have been passed down through generations. In addition to its religious significance, Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is a cultural treasure, hosting museums that display priceless artifacts, manuscripts, and religious objects. The site is not only a place of worship but also a center of learning, art, and history, embodying the spiritual and cultural legacy of Ukraine.

This is an amazing site to discover in Kyiv. Visit the church, see the mirror egg outside. The outstanding architecture. You need to visit this as travellers. It's a must and less than $5 to visit. On my visit there was some coffee machine outside, was very tasteful.

I visited just before the start of war, so my review is based on my experience at that time. A beautiful and historic monument in Kyiv. Arguably the centre of the Slavic Orthodox religion. I wish to visit again when things are back to normal.
Eric W — Google review
Beautiful place!!! Lots to see so make sure you have plenty of time. The bell tower is a little bit of a workout but completely worth it. The architecture, artwork, grounds and history is quite amazing.
Jason G — Google review
It’s not really “free” to enter but 100 UAH to pay. But of course it’s worth paying the amount as you’ll get to see amazing monastery with so many beautiful ornaments around. Do not miss the viewpoint as you’ll be able to see nice view under the river and to the war museum down south.
Jung Y — Google review
Amazingly beautiful. Worth visiting when in Kyiv and if you have a good day to dedicate. Not only the church but Monastery is full of beautiful holy places and micro environments, quite relaxing for visitors.

The Ukrainian Motherland Monument, towering over the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War Two, offers visitors breathtaking panoramic views of Kyiv from its 102-meter-high pedestal. This colossal stainless steel statue, unveiled in 1981, symbolizes the resilience and spirit of the Ukrainian people. As one of the world's tallest statues, it stands as a tribute to Soviet soldiers and is surrounded by a park featuring military displays and a World War II Museum.
Really breathtaking place. The current exposition, near the monument, with weapons and arsenal and the recreation of how people have lived under the siege of Russians is really shocking and important for the world to see.
Guillem C — Google review
The Motherland Monument in Kiev is a monumental sculpture that is the central object of the memorial complex of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II. The unique statue, which rises on the Pecherskaya Hills on the right bank of the Dnieper River, is viewed from almost anywhere in the city. It became the calling card of modern Kiev and was among the ten highest monuments of the planet. The grand opening of the Motherland in the entire museum complex took place on May 9, 1981. General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party L. Brezhnev took direct part in the ceremony. The height of the Motherland monument is 62 meters. The height of the cone pedestal is 40 meters. The all-welded statue weighs almost 500 tons. The main frame is 20 meters deep. The size of the shield is 8 meters by 12 meters. The height of the sword is 16 meters. The structure has two elevators – an inclined angle of 75 degrees and a vertical elevator terminating at the head of the statue. They are used to lift visitors to observation decks, but above all for the maintenance of the Motherland.Another must visit if you are in Kyiv. The Motherland Monument towers over the city and really is a symbol of independence / resistance that many Ukrainians are proud of. The park around the monument of free of charge to walk around and is very well kept. There are also a number of tanks on display , and for a small fee you can pay to visit the WWII museum next to the park. I am told the museum is very interesting but was closed during our visit due to the air raid siren going off.Standing proudly over the Kiev skyline is the 340-foot tall, stainless steel Soviet Mother Motherland statue. Originally intended to be even taller, the sword of the statue was cut because it was higher than the cross of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra - renowned Orthodox Christian Monastery. She ranks 18th on the list of the world’s tallest statues and for example a bit of comparison, The Statue of Liberty ranks about 42nd.

Amazing museum. Loved everything, history, people! It wasn't busy due to the weather, but lady guide there was so nice and walked me through, telling stories of the people. Just loved it. One of the key experiences visiting Ukraine!

Very cool place. Very somber. The museum and monument are done perfectly, impeccable, lots of extremely interesting facts and items from WW2, all the way up to the conflict in Crimea. This is definitely a worthwhile stop. You must go to the top of the monument!

The most amazing place in Kiev. It's a must visit destination in a traveller's list if he's visiting Kiev. The place is very well built and it displays all the war materials used in World Wars, it's just amazing and can only be felt not described. It has many more nearby tourist places which can be visited by walk or by bus.
Vaibhav N — Google review
This museum could be called the house of Europe's "Statue of Liberty". A huge and beautiful statue locates the entry of the museum. At the entry you could think it's not as big as it really is. It covers all of Kiev struggle during WWII with a lot of objects from that era. When I was there the balcony was closed so I couldn't get to see the statue at the bottom, but it was definitely worth it, and the last room with the fotos and the objects of the fallen during the war makes a real impact in you. Despite this the museum shows is age and everything it's in ukranian. So it's not that prepared to welcome tourists, although it's a must in Kyiv.
André S — Google review
Huge (23rd tallest statue in the world) monument overlooking Kiev. Great views across the city from the area. It's part of the Museum of the Great Patriotic War. I didn't visit the museum itself, was short on time, but there are plenty of exhibits to see outside which you don't have to pay to see. Also some big statues at the base and a tank painted in the Ukrainian national colours.

St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery is a historic site in Kiev, Ukraine, featuring a cathedral, bell tower, refectory, and gates all built in the Ukrainian Baroque style. The monastery was founded in 1108 by Sviatopolk Iziaslavovych and is dedicated to Michael the Archangel. It is renowned for being the first cathedral in Kyiv with gilded domes made of solid gold leaf.
My favorite building in Ukraine 🙏 I love the architecture, I love the blue color, the interior is beautiful 😍 Absolutely stunning. 🙏 I came to Kyiv in 2019. I hope to visit again.
JOE T — Google review
Very interesting for a foreigner. The complex of St. Michael with the monastery is open to the public and you can attend the liturgy.
Janko B — Google review
If you're staying at the InterContinental, St. Michael's Monastery is literally opposite. But even if you're not staying there, it's worth travelling across the city to see this beautiful religious building with its sky-blue walls, intricate riches and golden domed roof. Inside evokes many emotions through the haze of incense especially if visiting during some prayers / singing / chanting.
D — Google review
It’s really worth visiting here when you’re in the city. On a sunny day the golden roof really is glistening in the sun and the blue walls stand out prominently against the greyness of the surrounding area. Outside the surrounding wall there’s a nice square where you can sit and watch the world go by, including on my visit a photo shoot for a wedding, with loads of impressive and other ornate buildings. There was a number of locals selling stuff outside the entrance in the wall but fortunately they weren’t bothersome at all so don’t let it put you off. Once within the walls there’s a real sense of calm. There’s plenty of benches to sit and a nice walk around the grounds. There’s some other old buildings next to the main cathedral and a small ‘orchard’ which is pleasant in the sun. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to venture inside the main cathedral but despite that it was well worth checking out and it’s no wonder that it’s one of the cities main sights.
Steve B — Google review
The blue walls and golden domes of the exterior are very picturesque. The interior is quite impressive as well, and it is interesting to compare the fresh paintings here with the much older paintings in the nearby St Sophia’s.
JENNIS M — Google review
Really lovely place to visit. It is free to walk around, however if you want a guided tour or to find out more info there are additional charges to pay for these things. There are plenty of spaces and benches to sit and relax and reflect in these beautiful surroundings. There is a note that states no photography, however everyone there were taking pictures and nobody was approached to stop.
Daryl J — Google review
Serene setting in the midst of the city.
Robert L — Google review
I am always amazed every time i visit here. The gold dome is amazing and very impressive, you will see the irony of grace and power. Inside the compound there's an olf church that was preserved too, like the old structure. Located in the nearby tourists spots, and churches as well. Souvenir shops around, but a bit expensive.

St. Andrew's Church, also known as the Cathedral of St. Andrew, is an opulent 18th-century baroque church located on a hill that offers stunning views of one of Kiev's oldest neighborhoods. The church overlooks the ancient Podil district and is a prominent landmark in the city with its vibrant architecture featuring a large dome and five smaller cupolas.
I visited just before the start of war, so my review is based on my experience at that time. One of the most beautiful churches in Europe, imo. Set in an amazing setting. Visit at night if you can as the lights make it even more spectacular.
Eric W — Google review
This church has recently been restored inside and is now open to the public. The church is as beautiful inside as it is outside. I recommend visiting it at least once.So many beautiful churches and cathedrals around Kiev, and this is definitely one of the most beautiful one. The colors stick out so much, and it also reminded me of some churches in Russia!A magnificent church on the top of a hill - breathtaking views and very-very old decorations inside! We bought our ticket thinking we could enter the church but it is currently shut. The views over the rest of Podil are excellent so it might be worth the ticket price if you like views and photography. The church is beautiful. We could not enter inside, once it was under maintenance. But its definitely worth going in there, you will have such a wonderful view from Kyiv. Its totally worth it.
M/s H — Google review
Of all the architectural marvels I've encountered in my travels, St. Andrew's Church in Kyiv holds a special place in my heart. The sheer beauty and significance of this structure is unrivaled. One day, when peace graces Ukraine again, I eagerly await my return to Kyiv, where I will stand in front of this magnificent building, celebrating with a heartfelt visit and a smile. Such places serve as reminders of the timeless beauty and resilience in our world. Similarly, with two decades of experience in personal training, I've come to appreciate the dedication it takes to craft something exceptional, whether it's a historic monument or one's own well-being. For those seeking to shape their own enduring legacies, be it physical or mental, guidance can make all the difference.this building guided me many times as it light up the kyiv nights sky and inspired me to think and plan many action steps in my life. I hope more of you will also benefit from the magical energy of St. Andrew's one day soon 🙏🏻🌆🏰🌟💪🏼
Daniel B — Google review
The Cathedral is truly beautiful, if you enjoyed the Vatican city then you will like this place. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is no photography inside, and there are lots of stern looking ladies sitting inside that will stare at you in you get your phone out. There are also a few beautiful artifacts, such as the image of Mary made from painted Easter Eggs. There is a scale model of ancient Kyiv with a free speaker in multiple European languages that last about seven minutes. There were tours available but only in Ukrainian/Russian on an adhoc basis. The Bell Tower provides views across the city. Watch out for the metal post about ten steps up. You quickly realise that you need to duck to avoid it. The steps are not crazy small, and they are broken up by the viewing platforms. The tower in Princes Street in Edinburgh is much tighter and busier than when I went in late December, but until you get to the first viewing platform the steps do get quiet small. A combined ticket was 200, roughly 6 euros in Dec 2018.
Stephanie S — Google review
The Baroque iconostasis incorporates wood from ships that once sailed the Dnipro. During restoration, workers found 19th-century love letters tucked behind loose bricks. The church's hilltop location means its bells can be heard across Podil when the wind blows right.
Arman K — Google review
Nice church but the area surrounding the church is amazing. There are several viewpoints over the city and Andreievskyii Spusk is just a beautiful artsy street, probably it is the Ukrainian Montmartre. Lost of artists and handcrafts for sale, a few art-galleries, cute cafes and nice restaurants
Ina T — Google review
One of the most beautiful churches in Kyiv. It is located in z very interesting and historical places, Andriivskii descent. The history of this place and this church is very interesting. Right close to the church you would be able to find an art market and through it you would be able to get right to the city center. Besides, lots of different events occur there, so you might be happy to get just in the middle of the Caucasian week or right on the Lazer show.
Jay N — Google review
Huge and beautiful building. Make sure you get a ticket from the little office before attempting to gain access. Unable to get inside, but I think it would be worth it just to walk around the outside. The views across Kyiv are stunning x

The Chocolate House is a neo-renaissance mansion in the wealthy district of Lypky. It was restored in 2009 and now houses an art gallery within Kyiv National Museum of Russian Art. The mansion has a brown block-like appearance, which is similar to the look of a candy bar.
Very beautiful house and museum! For those who don’t know, it’s called the Chocolate House because of its color outside, reminds a chocolate bar, not because there is chocolate. 😉 However inside you will find a true piece of wonderful art. Especially the walls and ceilings. Unbelievable beauty. I would love to live in such place, being there you plunge into its history, big balls, dancing… must-see on your own eyes and must-visit. The price for ticket is good, not expensive. There are 2 floors. P.s. bathroom is a bit old, but it has all the facilities like paper and soap.
Tatiana M — Google review
Might be nice object to visit, but area is protected by military personnel. They said you can access the museum only with pre-arranged tour, otherwise it's not allowed, either not working. War ongoing.
Lukas S — Google review
Nice little museum. There is still some renovation work being done but the cost of admission is not very expensive. Would recommend if you have 20 minutes to spare.
Stanley P — Google review
I would say, this place is not worth your time or money. Nothing really interesting, 5 or 6 almost empty rooms. Lack of information in English or even in Russian. Workers were very grumpy and it looked almost like they were very unhappy to see some visitors. Toilets... Old, smelly and not very clean.
Lina G — Google review
Chocolate House has nothing to do with chocolate. It is a centre of art and culture. The name, however, came from the apparent chocolate colour of the exterior wall. It is a two storied building. The upper floor has several rooms, each decorated in a particular manner - Russian, Byzantine, Moorish etc. It was constructed before Bolshevik revolution. It was never probably renovated afterwards.
Muhammad R — Google review
🇺🇦You will not find a chocolate factory in this house, but you will find splendid history in every single room of this piece of art in Mauritanien, Byzantine, Russian & Modern style. 🇺🇦The house got its current name from the color of the interior walls, while the original one had the name of its owner. 🇺🇦Originally a private house, built in 1901, now it is one of the most unusual museums to visit in Kiev with occasional public events & temporary exhibitions. 🇺🇦There are also public guides tours here, but for any kind of event, including the guides tour you need to phone the reception & book the ticket in advance.

Nestled on a serene hill overlooking the Dnieper River, St. Michael's Vydubytsky Men's Monastery is a captivating gem in Kyiv that embodies the essence of Orthodoxy. Founded by Prince Vsevolod, son of Yaroslav the Wise, this monastery offers visitors a tranquil escape from the bustling city life.
Favorite place in Kiev. Less tourists, beautiful rose gardens and greate feelings all around this one. A definite must see. Note it takes about 15 minutes walk from the botanical garden entrance. You'll receive a map after purchasing a ticket with directions. Enjoy!
Fynn J — Google review
This riverside complex's 11th-century refectory has walls three meters thick - cool in summer, warm in winter. The tilted bell tower (a victim of landslides) still rings with a distinctive off-key tone. Monks maintain beehives whose honey tastes of linden blossoms from the grounds.

If you're looking for a quirky and vintage cafe with friendly staff, then Vagabond Cafe and Vintage Corner is the place to be. It's decorated in a retro style, with wooden bars and pictures of old polaroids on the ceiling. There's also plenty of greenery, making it feel like you're inside rather than outside.
An amazing place! Probably my favorite coffee place in Kiev right now! It has such a bohemian style and just an atmosphere of acceptance! The location is prime for looking at a church and watching bystanders! The staff was plenty friendly and it looked like they were cleaning up from the night before. Just a little sad, I didn't come the night before!

Very nice spot at a beautiful neighborhood close to old town. The staff was really friendly, and the cider that we got was delicious! I highly recommend it, it's the coziest and coolest place you can find.
Yannis A — Google review
Very cozy little place with a surprising variety of drinks, coffee and seasonal foods. For example they have tasty soup in pastry cup. English-speaking staff, nice outdoor space, spiced wine and shubby-chic interior. Highly recommend.

nice place, cool vibe, kind personal and tasty coffee

Great place! Wonderful people, service, music and food! Amazing atmosphere! I love this place! My favourite cafe in Kiev! Its a small cafe in vinage style, but very comfortable and cute.

Very good vegetarian food !! It's a bit small but that's the Charme of it, people are friendly and it's in a cool location
Vanessa — Google review
My most cherished and favorite cafe with healthy food and tasty drinks and the best "smetannik" cake ever for many years in a row now. Beautiful creative people, friendly personnel and funky atmosphere makes this place perfect for relaxation and contemplation 😉

I'm glad I stumbled upon this café on my way to the metro. With its vintage design, delicious rolls (I tried the vegan: pita bread stuffed with hummus, nuts, marinated eggplant & bell pepper, green salad) and tasty coffee. Yes those guys know how to make great coffee.

River port
Port operating company
Kyiv River Port is a vibrant hub for electronic music, featuring techno, house, and ethno genres. The port offers boat tours along the Dnipro river with options for longer cruises to Odessa. Visitors can enjoy upscale food stands and seating along the promenade in the summer. The port also hosts large cruise ships and has a bustling square with a fountain and waterfront bars.
The photo was taken from the shore of the Trukhanov Peninsula. It was sunset and the river station looks very beautiful! One of the old buildings, as I understood, it was still working like real station 20 years ago. Now this building works as an American university 🇺🇦🤝🇺🇸
Kir V — Google review
Nice place for walk, street food and drinks on the Dnipro embankment. Closes late at night. During summer music and djs playing and they serve shisha there, suitable for hang out with friends. Food quality is good as for the street food, shisha is worse.
Alexander — Google review
The 1950s passenger terminal's mosaic murals depict idealized Soviet maritime scenes. Hydrofoils depart with a distinctive three-tone horn sequence. Fishermen along the embankment know where the catfish congregate near underwater structures.
Arman K — Google review
It’s a nice place to get a river cruise. The price in Summer 2020 is 150 uan per adult and free for children younger 6 yo Tickets are available on official site rpea.com.ua There is WC an mini cafe on board. The time of cruise is 1 hour and start is available every 30-60 mins from 11 am. Highly recommend for guest of Kyiv ;)
Olha M — Google review
We happened to find this boat house on our way back to Maidan Square after seeing the St. Andrew's Church. There were old Soviet Realism style paintings left on the wall. There was a counter for the boat tour. Along the river there were many upscale food stand selling drinks and barbecue. The cushion for the seating were laid along the promenade. Very nice for the summer time!
Sachiyo B — Google review
River Port is a very busy place in summer! Be sure to get a 1 hour ride on a ship, longer ones are available as well. There are some river cruises from Kyiv to Odessa, so you can see large cruise ships there, too. The square in front of the river port is also busy and has a nice fountain. And there are some bars right by the water.
Anya N — Google review
An awesome place to spend your time with nice views of Dnipro river, both walking or biking. At Summer (starting late April) you can also get on board from here to see the city from the river. For example, they have 3,5 hour trip to the Kiev sea or 1 hour overview trip.
Nikita S — Google review
Nice place with the view of bridge. A panaromic view of Kiev tour. In week days panoromic Kiev tour a 1 hour tour and 100 uah per person.

Historical landmark
Castle Hill, located in the historic center of Kyiv, Podil, is a charming and historic site named after a 14th-century castle that once stood there. The hill offers a picturesque view of Vozdvyzhenska Street and surrounding hills. It's a favorite spot for romantics due to its beautiful views and serene atmosphere. The path to the top takes you through a large forest area in the middle of the city, providing an escape into nature within an urban setting.
Also known as witches hill, a little hidden, but quick escape from the main street
Mark T — Google review
The most interesting thing is that, having lived in Kiev for many years, I visited this mountain only this summer. There are many interesting things in these parts! One has only to walk a little. Of course the views are here. Wonderful, wonderful. It is insanely beautiful to look at our city Kiev from above.
Dmytro G — Google review
that is an interesting little-known historic place, with old cemetery on the hill and beautiful view to Podil from the top
Nellie V — Google review
Go there now, its a great and mysterious place, wild old paths, an old graveyard and beautiful views. It’s quiet still, you can drink a beer with friends, have fun, and look at the stars. Since 2019 it’s officially ‘parc’, so soon they will renovate it. That will delete all mystery and it will attract loads of tourist. Go there now, before that all happens.
Jonah V — Google review
Visited it on Halloween night :) great atmospheric place and nice views
Mariam K — Google review
It’s a ton of steps. But the view is amazing!
Andy M — Google review

The Alley of Artists is a picturesque location in the heart of the city, offering stunning views of historical Podil and the Dnipro River. After undergoing reconstruction, it has become a favorite spot for leisurely strolls and admiring various paintings created in different styles. The alley connects to the People's Friendship Arch and provides easy access to D12 as well as St. Andrew's Church via a newly built staircase.
It is a great path for walking and enjoying nature. This path is full of artistic paintings.👌🏼🎨🖼✨

Emrullah — Google review
A beautiful place, ideal for relaxing walks. One of the best parts of the city.
Nikolas B — Google review
You see a lot of very different things. Good for a walk.
Dietmar S — Google review
Nice alley to walk any season. There are few spots with panoramic view. And lot of benches to sit.
Moussse — Google review
One of my favorite places after it underwent reconstruction. Lots of people promenade here, now it is connected to the People's Friendship Arch. And as it is Artists' Alley, you can buy lots of various paintings here, created in different styles and with different techniques. You can go to D12 from here too, and they sell coffee and beverages right on the street even when the market is closed. Not a long time ago they built a staircase from here to St. Andrew's Church so you can go there easier.
Maryna — Google review

Babyn Yar is a site steeped in profound historical significance, marking the tragic events of September 29, 1941, when Nazi forces executed approximately 34,000 Jewish individuals in Kyiv. Today, it stands as a somber reminder of this dark chapter in history. Despite its heavy past, Babyn Yar has transformed into a serene locale where visitors can stroll, cycle, or jog amidst nature.

To get to this place you need to travel along Stephan Bandera Street. Just think about that.
Alex B — Google review
Well worth visiting, but the location shown on Google Maps is highly misleading. Get off the metro at Dorohozhychi metro station, and you are already right there in the middle of the site, with memorials on both sides of the station. (Yes, the Communists dug a huge hole right in this site to put a metro station in it -- don't blame the current government for that).
Loren G — Google review
Very sad place … we never Forget .
D G — Google review
More like an open air memorial park, many structures dotted around commemorating what happened here but little detail and what's there can be confusing if trying to work out what happened where. It doesn't look like the wikipedia photos of the massacre area as the forest has regrown. Maybe that's for the best. Approx an hour's walk from Golden Gate, then more to explore site, read the info panels about people connected with the site. Bus, metro available, too.
